not me making a video of this full scene--post-Zorya make-up sex
the gifs are good but like I wanted a 1080p version for myself and thought I'd share.
anyway the song is Test of Loyalty from CP2077:PL and while I know the context of the song is... way different from this I'm obsessed with it and liked the backdrop it provided since y'know... we have Shepard's voice coming out of Zaeed and Jack's voice coming out of Regis.
tbh now I wish I kept the red lighting for the gifs, I made it a lot lighter and a bit orange so they wouldn't be washed out...
#zaeed massani#regis shepard#LISTEN-- I SPENT HOURS SETTING UP THIS SCENE#i'm going to milk--er bad choice of words but listen--let me have this lmao#cleric's modding stuff#when I watched the fling with jack I didn't realize it was like this#so let me tell you when I went feral knowing I could make this for them#also for new people who followed because of this gif: hi i'm cleric i'm obsessed with regis shepard and his two boyfriends zaeed and kaidan

Janet didn't put out the hit on Jack after Tim was born
Her ex girlfriend did
And then the ex girlfriend took the contract herself
Ex girlfriend is not pleased when she isn't the only one who rushes to...comfort the "grieving" widow, three of them come together in an alliance to chase off the others, there is a schedule they mostly adhere to depending on their own desires and responsibilities
And as Tim grows, all of his mother's various suitors are trying to both get his good opinion and train him to be a deadly warrior to beat away/freak out any further competition and report on what happened while they were away
Shiva steals Cass away from David Cain specifically for her courtship with Janet, presenting herself as fellow single mother with Tim's previously undiscovered soul sibling Cass, bonus Cass acts as a bodyguard/trainer/companion for Tim while she guards Janet on her expeditions
Selina uses the power of kittens and stealth lessons to bond with Tim and to help him with his stalking/information gathering hobby, she introduces Tim to the delicate art of blackmail and thievery.
Talia draws on her father's records to find previously undiscovered or overlooked tombs and ruins to entice Janet with archaeological when digs and has ninja train/babysit Tim and Cass while she takes Janet out
And Bruce gets the very wrong impression as to why these women are going in and out of Gotham with such relative frequency
Hell yeah!
That ex-gf is lucky as hell that Janet only gets slightly mad about Jack dying (because of course Janet finds out). Though, this does come with the pointed words that this is one of the reasons they aren't currently dating.
Tim is sad his father died, but he's also confused about waking up the next morning to at least twenty of his mother's flings in Drake Manor. The process of watching seventeen of them being chased off one by one is entertaining.
Once Janet decides to start dating again, they for sure realize that Tim is the only way for them to go steady with Janet (because Janet Drake loves her son and will burn the world down for him). They come to adore Tim for the way his eyes get the same calculative glint as Janet, his innate ability to manipulate a room, and the smirk without smirking he does. He is, without a doubt, Janet's son.
Many of them, utter fools, initially underestimate Tim. He may be of Janet's blood, but he's also five (or six or eight or whatever young age they meet him at). This is how Tim manages to weasel whatever he desires (usually dangerous lessons like knife throwing) from his mom's suitor.
Janet is so proud of him.
Janet has a way with dangerous ladies, but this isn't only for villains. Vigilantes, anti-heroes, and even some heroes end up in her orbit. She doesn't ask them for exclusivity, and they don't ask that from her (so a lot of them have other relationships, including with each other).
Idk if Wonder Woman would keep her on again off again relationship with Janet (and periodic visits to Gotham) a secret, so I'm not sure if I ship it for this AU :/
Zatana, however, (when she is Bruce's age), could teach Tim some magic.
So, yeah. Bruce gets concerned when a bunch of extremely skilled women from all "sides" of Justice keep visiting Gotham.
[I'm also hella vibing with what each of the women in your descriptions did for bribes/courting gifts]

slow mornings | quinn hughes
a little dad!quinn blurb for your sunday evening <3
The house was quiet. Too quiet for a Saturday morning.
Usually, Saturday mornings started early with Sophie climbing into Quinn and I's bed. This morning, though, I was the only one laying under the duvet. As I racked my brain, trying to remember if there was a reason I had been abandoned in the bed, I remembered that I'd never seen Quinn last night. He was supposed to get home after midnight, flying home from a five-day road trip.
The panic began to set in when I realized that I had no messages from Quinn, his phone wasn't on his bedside table, and -- most importantly -- he wasn't lying in bed next to me. Flinging the covers off, I made my way down the hall to Sophie's room, where I discovered that she too was missing. Deciding to venture downstairs, I could hear the faint sounds of music coming from the living room.
As I entered, my heart swelled at the sight in front of me. Laying on the couch, both asleep, was Sophie and Quinn. Sophie was cuddled into her dad's side and didn't appear to be waking up anytime soon.
I quickly snapped a picture of the two of them before leaning down and placing a kiss to the top of Quinn's head. His eyes fluttered open and a lazy grin came over his features.
"Hey," he mumbled. "Can I have a real kiss?"
I smiled at his request.
"You want me to give you a kiss after you abandoned me in our bed?"
He just continued smiling at me, knowing that I'd give in eventually. And I did, leaning back down to give Quinn a 'real kiss' before walking around the couch and sitting on the unoccupied side of Quinn's body. I leaned onto his side as his arm came to wrap around my waist. I was looking at the movie currently playing on the tv; Winnie the Pooh was currently one of Soph's favorites. She especially loved Eeyore.
"Eeyore's actually such an underrated character," Quinn said, as if he could read my mind.
"You and Soph are too much alike," I replied, earning a nudge from my husband.
"Who's your favorite then?"
I didn't reply, which was an answer enough for Quinn.
"There's nothing wrong with liking Eeyore, you know. His grumpiness is funny. And realistic."
"Fair point."
We both laid in comfortable silence for a while, watching the children’s movie, when I figured I’d bring up the potentially touchy subject of Quinn’s road trip, during which they’d lost two games and won one.
"How was the trip?"
The involuntary sigh that escaped his lips was all I really needed to know. Quinn had already confided in me about how frustrating it was for his team to be having such an awful season, especially compared to Jack's, but to also have to see so many of his teammates and people he considered to be good friends get traded away. He didn't talk about it in front of his parents or his brothers, specifically Jack, because he didn't want to make everyone listen to his pity party when he knew they really just wanted to be basking in the glory of Jack's first really good season in the NHL.
"It sucked," Quinn admitted, his arm gripping my waist a little tighter. “But it’s over now, so it’s whatever.”
I looked up to him, communicating with just my look that it, in fact, wasn’t whatever.
“Fine, fine. It just wasn’t fun overall. I didn’t play very well, and I missed you guys.”
Quinn had a pout on his face when I looked up at him. I couldn’t help myself but to lean up and kiss his jaw.
“We missed you too,” I informed him. “Soph watched every single minute of every game.”
As if she could hear us mention her name in her sleep, Sophie stirred. Wiggling around and rubbing her eyes. Upon her opening her eyes fully, she looked at Quinn, then at me, and did a double take back to Quinn, letting out a little gasp.
“Daddy!” she squealed and wrapped her arms around Quinn’s neck. Quinn chuckled but pulled her closer to his chest.
“Hey sweetheart. Have a good nap?”
The massive smile on Sophie’s face and the hands that were still clutching onto Quinn’s shirt were enough indication that she was more preoccupied with her father than to answer his question.
“Daddy, are you home now?”
The grin that graced Quinn’s features wavered slightly. While Soph was asking if Quinn was home, she was really asking if he was going to stay home.
“No baby, not yet. I’m home this week, and then I’m going to see Uncle Trevor.”
She tried to mask her disappointment. After a moment, though, her features changed to one of curiosity and excitement.
“Oh. But can you ask him to bring me some candy? He always brings me candy when you see him,” she informed us.
I raised an eyebrow and side-eyed Quinn, who looked guilty.
“Uncle Trevor always brings you candy?”
“Yes!” she exclaimed. “Daddy brings it, but Uncle Trevor gives it to him to give to me.”
“Ah, I see.”
I decided to leave the subject of Trevor and Quinn conspiring to sneak our kid candy another time. Right now, though, I was going to spend the morning watching Disney movies.

Congratulations for your 500 followers! I hope I'm not late, if you don't mind I would like prompt number 2 for the first year.
Since there're only 3 characters to choose from. I'll specifically choose them, it's Deuce, Jack and Sebek.
Hope is okay.
2. "Someone" decides to ask you for your opinion about "their friend" and you decide to have a bit of fun and tease them.
My dear you are a very lucky listener, between you and another friend I have all the usual first years for this, so I am going to go ahead and swap out Deuce for Epel on this post. The others can be found here. Though if we are being honest, I probably would have gone ahead and done all five of them anyway, there's just something about them that makes you not want to separate them you know?
notes: they/them used for Yuu, Jack doesn't handle embarrassment well, Epel is a brat, and Sebek is canonically easily flustered. The other event requests can be found on my masterlist here.
Jack
He has yet to think of a good way to talk about this. Jack has always been in tune with your movements, since long before he realized what it meant; no matter the size of the crowd he could drown it all out and find your heart beat. The sound draws him towards it out of habit, though he remembers himself enough to shy just short of invading your space and making introductions. Your heart is at rest, enjoying the sights and sounds of the ball, only spiking briefly when you notice him. Is it wrong, he wonders, to wish for it to have remained elevated? Moon knows his can never keep it steady around you.
"Hi!" You sound so happy. It's enough to make him scowl, jealousy clawing it's ugly way towards his throat keeping his mouth tightly closed. "Are you enjoying the festivities?"
Jack nods, doing his best to keep his tail from flinging the cape Crewel had so carefully pinned to his shoulders across the room. Jealousy cannot dull his happiness to see you, and your kindness is seldom denied to strangers.
"That's good to hear." You say without a hint of irony, and then you turn to leave, pausing when he moves along to follow. "Are you ok?"
"I'm trying to find a friend." Jack wants to hit himself as soon as he says it. Sure, Ace had suggested it as a joke but he had insisted it was a bad idea. A terrible idea. An idea that disrespected both yours and his common sense, and yet here he was asking you anyway. "Have you seen Jack?"
Now Jack had always had your interest, but now he had your attention. "Who?" If he didn't want to die before he definitely did now. His broad shoulders sag, only slightly they're much too muscular to do much more. "Oh you mean the Savanaclaw freshmen! Right? What do you need him for?"
"I'm just... looking for him." Jack sucks at lying, he's too uptight and too strict to his own code excel at it.
The tie he feels to you screams at him every time he does, lying does not protect the pack, it hurts them. And who is more vital to the pack than-
"Just to look at?" You have your arms clasped behind your back and are smiling? "I'll admit he is very pretty but I don't think you need to be looking at him."
"I shouldn't look at him?" How cute, the poor baby is confused. You move to stand right up against his chest, watching happily as he doesn't so much as flinch a single inch.
"No no, you should keep your eyes on me. Because," you press your finger against Jack's lips as if to shush him "I'm his one and only, the only way you are allowed to admire my Jack is if you see him reflected in my eyes." One second passes. And then two more, three draw themselves out as you see Jack's teeth grind faster than the gears in his head.
You have been toying with him, he realizes as the last of his embarrassment is swallowed up in the fire that lights up in his eyes.
"Oi, don't you remember what I said las time?" Your eyes widen as Jack breaths in the scent of your excited shock. "I told you-" his arms wrap around your waist to lift you up in the air, he tells himself it's just to make leaving easier, "if you keep yanking my tail, there's going to be consequences." As if he didn't know that's exactly what you wanted.
Epel
"Well, you seem awfully lonely, are you sure you're alright?" Epel doesn't think he has ever put this much effort into Vil's ettiquite speech, but he needs to tonight. He knows he's short, he knows he has this damnable cute appearance, and he knows Rook is hovering somewhere just off screen waiting to swoop if he sees something mildly amusing.
But he just has to know, he's tried asking Deuce how you talk about him when he's not there but he had just spluttered and refused to say anything meaningful. Ace had been worse "Oh? Wouldn't you like to know apple boy-" well yeah no shit that's why he'd been asking. Jack and Sebek were denser than brick and weren't able to tell him much beyond that you thought "highly of his achievements." Great. No really that was just great. But maybe not as great as Sebek further adding that Yuu "thought he was just as capable as anyone else." That had crushed him for the better part of a week until Vil had accused him of pouting which wasn't cool guy behavior at a-
"You noticed." Yuu smiles, and his thoughts are once again derailed. It's not like their usual smiles, this one is sad. "Formal events like these are just a bit too much, I'm not used to them."
"I think they're sort of fun." It's the truth, Epel likes a good party. Really this isn't so different from home, the clothes are just less practical and more expensive. "But my buddy," that was too informal but you aren't giggling, so that has to mean he's in the clear "Epel, he used to have a real hard time with these things." You sit up just a bit straighter at the mention of his name.
"Oh, you're Epel's friend?" Silly Yuu, you thought you were talking to the man himself and excited he had been the first of your friends to come and check on you. There were some things you wanted to talk to him about, Vil was absolutely no help when you had asked if Epel talked about you when you weren't around. The hell sort of answer was "Obviously?" Not a workable one that's for sure!
"Yeah, I was wondering if you've maybe seen him around? I promised to help him with something tonight, but he's been hiding from me." As if the person speaking to you could be anyone but Epel, no one else at this school expresses his disappointment quite so beautifully as this.
"He's hiding from me too, sorry." You allow your genuine disappointment to shine through, trying to read how Epel reacts. He... doesn't exactly, instead allowing an awkward silence to fall over you that just cannot be allowed to stand. "It's really cute of him honestly."
"What?!" At least that's what you think Epel says, it's hard to hear over the angry gargle starting to brew.
"Seriously cute." You make sure to give an exaggerated dreamy sigh so he knows that he is being teased before you continue. "Really, he says all sorts of sorts of sweet things about me when I'm not around and then expects me to not know! It's adorable." Epel still doesn't budge, so you unwisely decide to press forward. "And those puffy cheeks he gets when embarrassed-" you've got a real good view of them right now "it's so sweet I could just eat him right up!" Speaking of up-
"Shut the fuck up." If there is one thing Epel is constantly reminding people of, it's that he's strong. But the force with which he guides, because a real man would never push, your back to the wall, caging you between two strong arms isn't surprising to you in the slightest. The glimmer in your eyes screams that he's been made a fool of, and that just won't do. "Well darling you think you're reaaaal funny don't cha? Well howabout youse sit your pretty little ass against that wall and let me show you something hilarious." He makes sure to kiss you slowly to make sure you are good and shut up before he continues. "Taste real nice, don't it?" And it must have worked because you nothing in favor of throwing your arms around his shoulders to pull him closer.
Sebek
Sebek is not a very self aware person. You have had several conversations with Lilia about this, his tone filled with fond amusement and yours with infatuated attraction. No one outside of maybe Rook or Cater would accept being called cute, but there was no real other word for it. Sebek was cute. Too cute, horrifically painfully adorable in a way that just made you want to eat your fist to keep from screaming and kiss all over his cheeks. And this little stunt he was trying to pull really wasn't helping.
"I am conducting a survey on Lord Malleus's retainers." Bless his heart, Sebek is trying to use his inside voice. "How exactly would you rate their performance?"
"Could you be a bit more specific?" You do not have to try very hard to sound interested, you are extremely interested in just how far this lie goes.
"Of course." Sebek sounds almost proud, he must have anticipated this line of questioning. "Have you had any problems with any of Lord Malleus's retainers?"
"Yes I have." You nod seriously and Sebek fumbles.
"O-oh. Um could I ask why?" He doesn't think to ask who, which does tug at your heart strings a bit. Poor boy might accuse Silver of being a slacker, but when someone implies there is a problem he almost always assumes it's with him. Well that just won't do.
"Certainly. Sebek Zigvolt was supposed to meet with me tonight but he seems to have forgotten that." You nod seriously enough to make Sebek choke.
"Yes." You sigh making sure to toy with your mask, flirting with giving Sebek the view of your face he wants so badly and breaking the rules of etiquette he feels honor bound to follow. "He promised me," he most certainly had not, that he would dance with me all night. I was really looking forward to it."
"WHAT? NO, I WAS- ahem." What Sebek had actually said was: "if Lord Malleus allows me I will show you how to dance so you don't embarrass the young master, human, but dont expect me to prioritize you over protecting him!" But that didn't matter to you. And clearly not to him if he was allowing Malleus to stay under Silver's inferior protection on the complete opposite side of the ballroom. He coughs into his glove as the other students around you barely budge; it's Sebek, of course he's yelling, but said boy still seems to think he's well disguised seeing as he returns to trying to lower his voice without a hint of irony. "Please continue, you said, Mr. Zigvolt was supposed to... meet with you?" You nod, refusing to give him the satisfaction of hearing any more from you just yet as you imagine the three act play currently showing underneath his mask. "Well. Since he is not here-" You barely stifle a laugh "would you care to allow me to escort you instead?"
"No."
"NO?!" That yell does get everyone's attention, some out of fear others out of pity assuming Sebek just got rejected hard. The boy himself certainly seems to think so.
"Well of course not," you make sure to lower your mask just so he knows, and cannot deny, the meaning of what you say next "I said I wanted to dance with Sebek, not someone he's pretending to be."
"Hmph." Sebek once told you fae don't blush, but that was either wishful thinking or a bold face lie with how red his entire body seems to have decided to turn. "It seems you don't quite understand the purpose of a masqurade, human. Very well, as my lord's retainer, I shall educate you." He gently, with a smile just as kind no matter how much he fights it to settle into professional indifference, pushes your mask into place and guides you towards the dance floor.

Glass Houses: Jack Thurlow x Y/N Series CH 06 -> CH 07
"Can I trust you to not kill my mom's dog?" "Yes?" "I hate how that sounded coming out of your mouth."
Tagging: @roryculkinluvr @thatsthewrongwallcraig @icarus-star @cc-luvr @madamemaximoff06 @shady-the-simp @quicksilversg1rl @s-0lar
Jack spent another day trying to balance between cleaning out another room, taking writing breaks and chain smoking cigarettes. He managed to skip napping throughout the day so sleeping wouldn't be such a chore once the sun went down but now that he was finally showered, reheated pizza in his belly, he was ready to curl up with his laptop and work on some more of his book. He sat down on his bed, laptop in his lap ready to write when he was startled by pounding on the door downstairs.
"Jack! Jack are you home?!" Jack could tell it was Y/N and tossed his laptop onto the bed, running down the stairs and flinging the door open. Y/n looked panicked, like she had been crying and was clutching Ace.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Jack looked her over to see if she was hurt anywhere but she looked to be in a long shirt like pajamas and flip flops.
"C-can you please watch Ace? Mom took a fall and I have to get her to the hosptial." Jack opened the door wider seeing how upset she was. Usually he wouldn't bother entertaining anyone else's distress at such a late hour unless they were Shanda but he remembered what Dr. Carty had suggested and wouldn't mind adding Y/n to the short list of people he called friend.
"Yeah of course. Is she okay? Do you need anything?" Jack could tell that Ace was concerned by his furrowed brows and his helpless look as he stared between him and Y/n. Rusty had a way of knowing whenever Jack was upset too. Dogs had a way of sensing those sort of things.
"She's sitting up but she's not really communicating so the ambulance is on the way. I just didn't want him to be left alone in case they decide to keep her for observation. I would have called but I realized we haven't actually exchanged numbers yet." Y/n took a deep breath and Jack could hear sirens in the distance.
"I don't have any problem taking him. Just let me know when to bring him back." She handed Ace over to Jack who put him on the floor and let him roam around. He immediately walked to the bottom of the stairs like he was ready to be carried upstairs to Jack's room.
"Can I trust you to not kill my mom's dog?" Jack looked confused by the sudden question.
"Yes?" He answered watching Y/n let out a stressed laugh.
"I hate how that sounded coming out of your mouth." Jack remembered he had told Y/N he had killed his dog last time they spoke and she assumed he was joking. I guess his lack of dog made her question the joke.
"I'm not sure what I can say to make you trust me. I mean I'm still a complete stranger to you but I do like having Ace around if that helps you feel better about leaving him. I can promise you that my friend Shanda removed all the sharp objects in the house before she flew back home and I'm too heavily medicated to get enough energy to do any harm with my hands." Jack shrugged holding his hands up. He didn't want to come across threatening in any way and risk losing the opportunity to hang out with Ace. He also kind of wanted Y/N to trust him.
"Well just know that if the moment hits and you feel like murdering him, I have specific knowledge on how to paralyze someone without it leaving any sort of trace. I will also torture you...slowly." Y/n pointed and Jack cracked a smile.
"You never know, I could be into that sort of thing." Jack teased. Y/n surprisingly returned the smile.
"Thank you for this. Seriously, you're a lifesaver right now. Here is my cell number. I'm not sure what time they might release her but I will try not to text too late." Y/n handed Jack a slip of paper with her phone number on it and he pocketed it.
"I don't sleep much so don't worry about texting late. I'll always answer." Jack tried to reassure her. The ambulance was coming around the bend and parked in front of her house.
"It's going to be okay. I got him. You just take care of your mom." Jack offered and Y/N gave him another long look before throwing her arms around his neck giving him a tight hug.
"Thank you Jack." Jack didn't have time to hug her back but he did realize that no one other than Shanda had hugged him in a long time. She released him and ran towards the house waving her arms. Jack watched as they loaded her mom up in the ambulance and take off down the road.
Jack shut the door and locked it up before grabbing Ace up from the front of the steps and carrying him up to his room. Ace took his spot on his bed and curled up. Jack sat back down on the bed, making sure to add the number to his cellphone in case she tried to call later, he didn't want to miss it.
As soon as he closed the contact, he was alerted to a new profile on social media that "You might know..." Out of curiosity, Jack opened his Instagram account to see who it might be and Y/N popped up. He opened her profile and immediately started cyber stalking her profile. It always baffled him when people had open profiles. There are far too many scammers and weirdos in the world to put your entirely life on the internet and not have it privatized. Not that anything on the internet is secure but Jack didn't spend too much time thinking about it as he ran across some boudoir photos that made his chest grow hot. The caption read: "Felt sexy, might make you horny later."
Jack glanced over towards Ace who was staring at him through the hair covering his eyes. He would have to continue his cyber stalking at a later date without the eyes of judgement boring holes into him.

Can I ask for a scenario where Darling is an accomplice of Atlas (who's yandere for her) who teams up with Jack as to keep an eye on him? Darling is very annoyed that she has to work for Atlas while he keeps getting jealous of how nice she treats Jack. (Maybe use prompts 15 and 17 from the list made by inuzkua?)
Yeah, I can see what I can do!
Prompts Found Here
Yandere! Atlas Prompts 15 + 17
“You’ll come around sooner than you’ll think”
“The silent treatment, huh?”
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Manipulation, Threats, Forced relationship, Mentioned intimacy.
There was no winning in Rapture. You either bowed to one tyrant, or another trying to overthrow the current one. You had to do anything you could to survive.
In your case, it was serving as a spy for Atlas. Yes, Atlas, the resistance leader everyone was raving about in Rapture. You didn't much care for him... but the pay and protection from splicers was good.
Atlas even seemed to trust you enough to explain what his plan was.
Jack, this young man you were supposed to watch over, was Atlas's most important weapon to take Andrew Ryan down. For this cause you comply with your employer's orders. Atlas was the one you had connections with... not Ryan.
Atlas promised you that he would look out for you during your journey. You needed to be close with Jack, defend him, up until he can kill Ryan...
After that it doesn't matter what happens to him.
You were indifferent to Jack at the start. You had played the act of an ally. Someone who had his back and would fight for him.
It's funny how putting your life on the line for someone makes you enjoy their company. You had felt more connected with Jack on your journey than with anyone. Even if he was supposed to be a puppet for Atlas.
Speaking of which, Atlas didn't like how close Jack had become with you. When you first caught wind of it, he caught you off guard. Why does he care how close you are?
You and Atlas would meet up periodically to report the progress of his plan. It was whenever you had to split from Jack with a crafted lie. The man trusted you... you were thankful for it.
This was when Atlas revealed how he felt about you and his puppet.
"I'm holding up my end of the deal. I'm watching over him. Why does it matter if I grew to care for him a little?"
"If you're to be loyal to my cause, I can't have you betraying me, dear."
"Betrayal? Why do you question my loyalty?"
"Anything could happen down here. Getting close to some poor fool who could be disposed of so easily is a poor choice."
The reasons he gave you never made any sense. You could not figure out why Atlas didn't like uou being so close to Jack. Was he really scared you'd become a threat... or was it something else?
He had ended that meeting with one simple phrase before sending you off to meet Jack again.
"You're getting to be too nice with Jack, honey... we may have to find you a new job if you get too close."
Honey... dear... all terms of endearment. You never thought about it until way later but it was just disturbing to realize what he meant by being too nice with Jack. Atlas was jealous that his spy was with some other guy.
He was fine when you tolerated Jack. The moment you started showing more care towards Jack rather than him? That's when Atlas wished to pull the plug on your job.
You had learned of his alternative plans when he met with you again.
"I no longer need you to watch Jack. We got it covered from here."
"...What?"
"Your job is no longer needed. I congratulate you on your work. Kick back and relax, darling."
He grins at your shock and anger, cutting off your attempts to negotiate.
"What else am I supposed to do? I can't just abandon him-"
"You could stick around with me. I was thinking of having some company anyway. You managed to catch my eye with that demeanor of yours...."
It then clicks within you what he meant. He had revoked your job... to make you his newest fling. A new face to his cult following.... You grimace.
"You took me from Jack... to keep me to yourself."
"What a strong way of saying it... but yes. You nailed it right on the head, darling."
"What makes you think I'd agree?"
Atlas leans forward in his chair, steel blue eyes glinting in twisted adoration.
“You’ll come around sooner than you’ll think.”
Atlas was known for his charming looks and charisma. That's why he was a leader. Many wanted to dedicate themselves to him, some even wish to sleep with him.
You refused to be treated like that.
With a huff you shake your head and turn away. How were you supposed to process this? Your boss was paying you to do spy work...
You weren't a prostitute.
“The silent treatment, huh?”
Atlas responds to your silence, standing up.
"Maybe it was a mistake to send you on spy work. You fall in love with your targets...."
"I'm not in love with him!"
"Well that's a relief, doll. I was worried for a moment."
"... that doesn't mean I'll sleep with you, either."
There's tension between you. Atlas looks at you blankly, crossing his arms. You refuse to look him in the eyes and feel your stomach coil from stress. How long has he felt like this?
"It's your choice in the end if you want to be beside me or not, darling. Just know..."
He steps in front of you, forcing you to look at him despite how you try to back away.
"If you leave then you'll have a target on your back. No more protection, those splicers are ravenous and feral."
His words and gaze haunt you. He then pulls away, stepping away from you.
"I just thought you'd like to know the weight of your situation..."
He gives you a smile of faux care.
"Don't want you making the wrong choice after all."
There was only one choice that guaranteed your survival, it pained you to know you'd have to pick it.
Yet in Rapture, you had to do anything you could to survive.

Long under the cut
It was awful, Talisman thought.
Him and the dozen or so other heroes had been losing ground for hours, the creatively named "Necrolord" (gee, I wonder what his power is) just kept raising the dead and flinging their corpses at them. A few C class heroes had been killed already, and more than a few "retired" had shown up when if became obvious that you were losing, and badly, the fresh infusion had slowed, but not stopped the horde. Saberina had even shown up... She had *just* given birth to her first kid just a few weeks ago.
Jack had said her husband nearly went feral when she left, and it had taken a significant amount of effort to get him and their daughter aboard the Oracle for safety with everyone else's spouses. You could fight better when you weren't worried about your husband or wife...
Talisman flinched as another hero was grabbed and pulled under, his cries as the horde tore him apart reduced the already waning hope of the heroes...
They weren't going to win, talisman thought. This bastard had figured out exactly when the living infinite was going to be off defending Earth in the tournament, and had planned probably for years for this moment... No way the first S class villain sense flamberge would just suddenly arise and massacre a whole city so conveniently when there was no one left who could actually stop him...
Talisman gripped his hand cannon tighter, his ability to manipulate probability meant he never missed, not unless the target could actively defend themselves like flamberge, or were just immune to the effects of his bullets like Luke.
He knew he had riddled the villain with several magazines, but the bullets seemed to have no effect on him. And each member of the horde took several headshots to kill. Just when he thought it could not possibly get any worse, the overpowered twobit discount human necronomicon pulled back and started laughing, "Why, look at what we have here if it isn't the original, Flamberge! Come to join the consortium's final defeat?" Talisman turned in horror to watch the brightly colored Landskenecht themed super villain in all his over-the-top glory, his eponymous, nearly 6 ft long flametongued great sword slung jauntily across one shoulder as he swaggered up from behind us. He didn't say a word until he was standing between all of us and necrolord... Then his mouth opened and the horrible brazen bell of his voice rung out-
****
Those those bastards! I told Luke he should let me come clean to the rest, Now all of those idiots, mine beautiful bride, the love of my life, the mother of my daughter included. I had handed Emily off to Luke's wife Tiffany, the instant I realized where I was, and I almost grabbed that rat bastard jack as he teleported down to the battlefield with MY WIFE.
THAT WAS FINE! ABSOLUTELY FINE! I'LL JUST GET THERE MYSELF.
I absolutely tore through Oracle station, I had given Luke both my sword and my old costume. They had to be around here somewhere. Probably his room. It took me a couple of minutes to find, You would think the most powerful, nay immortal superhero of all time would live in some glorious manor aboard his private space station, but no. Luke had to be this little thing called humble and contrite. So he lived in a simple, little apartment that was actually smaller than the one my wife and I had. If I hadn't known him for so many years, I would have assumed it was some kind of affectational false modesty. Unfortunately, he was just legitimately a really good guy...
I did feel kind of guilty breaking in, but not extremely. Mother of my children endangered, You know.
Actually, that's not the best way to think about it... Yeah, Minerva was definitely in mortal danger, but this lunatic had killed tens of thousand in minutes and was rolling directly towards a major metropolitan area with millions...
As much as I loved my wife, I don't think she would forgive me if I sacrificed them for her, and I don't think I could forgive myself either...
I shook myself from my reverie and looked around.
Spartan, adorned with only pictures of his wife and children, comfortable but not fancy furniture with indistinct food stains. That said they probably were second hand? This man is flying around defending Earth from horrors beyond imagination, with a multi-trillion dollar space station, sitting on a goodwill couch from 1991, playing video games on an a GameCube.
But I don't have infinite time to think about how utterly ridiculous. Friend is, the benefits of my powers are many faceted, and it has applications very far from heeheehoohoo sword go shing!
I altered the walls, roof, and floors refractive index to make them invisible briefly, and he has a secret lair. That's more on brand from *the* Overpowered superhero. I grabbed the hidden lever and it swung open, walls covered in monitors, all tuned to various news outlets, other cameras that appear to be from consortium drones or spy satellites recorded as well.
You could tell how bad it was by the fact that the news helicopters were so far away. You could really only see the approximate colors of the superheroes outfits, my own wife in her blazing white and blue glinted at the very front, hewing like a mad woman...
For the briefest moment, my heart was in my throat with mixed terror and pride.
But then the devious side of me started picking up clues. Whoever this Mook was, he might be an S class in power but his tactics sucked. He was trying some kind of lion versus antelope tactic where he tried tried to target the weakest heroes first, which if you don't have the power to take on, the more powerful ones head on is a good call. But this guy could have easily rolled over Talisman by sheer for some bodys. Luck only goes so far, and the minute the good luck charm dies, everyone else would fold like a camp chair. What an idiot! I relaxed a little, but not too much. I still needed my gear...
Of course, Luke was far too humble for a trophy room. So I found my old costume and my sword in a rubbermaid under bed storage container, the label was handwritten.
I had almost forgotten exactly how garish and brightly colored my red, gold, and blue outfit was. I wish I had spent the money to get something different just in case something like this happened. But I need to stress exactly how rare S class metahumans are, two in a generation is virtually unheard of, three has never happened in recorded history- and I wanted to use money that I had actually earned to buy my new gear, I wasn't going to dip into my villain slush fund. I was using that for better things at the moment.
I was leaving in full regalia whenever Tiffany showed up holding my little Emily, eyes wide in shock and terror.
"Keep my baby girl safe" I said as I slipped around her.
See, getting onto Oracle station was really hard. Technically I could have just zipped through the wall, but that would leave a flamberge shaped hole in it, and while Oracle station had an impressive self-reparability, I didn't want to do that much damage. I also didn't want to terrify anyone else.
So I used the same trick on myself that I had used on the walls, changing the refractive index of my skin, blood, muscle, and organs to match that of air.
I slid through the corridors looking for one of the airlocks, again. It didn't exactly take me long. Oracle station is very well designed, and has many ways to escape during an emergency.
In this case I just needed to take a walk.
See, currently the only person in the entire universe actually knows the full extent of my power is Luke. I kept pretty strictly to physical feats, or things that could be passed off as physical feats as flamberge, but but aside from invisibility, seeing through walls, and melting locks? Technically I could also fly. And considering that I can alter the material property of air and myself, I can fly at supersonic speeds completely silent. Or in this case, reenter the the atmosphere without a fireball. Holding my breath was interesting. Even with my ability to flawlessly seal my lips and breathe carbon dioxide... Your body still thinks it's wrong to not breathe for so long- I wonder how Luke does it?
I traded momentum for mass and plummeted towards the northwest United States at the speed of a meteor, using my power to slide silently and invisibly towards the location of the battle, the spare few minutes of my drop were nerve wracking. I had no information on what was happening, or if anyone had been injured or killed...
Finally, I landed softly behind the heroes lines. I took the quarter second needed to flex the air between me and the news choppers, and slid back into the visible spectrum.
The reaction wasn't instant, I lagged behind. So the horde of zombies was centrally controlled. Good to know. The brain was even kind enough to show himself. "Why, look at what we have here if it isn't the original, Flamberge! Come to join the consortium's final defeat?" It took a lot of skill to make the air muffle his voice. Most people thought I was dead, I liked it that way.
I strode past the line of horrified heroes and threw out my chest, altering my vocal cords, diaphragm and the air I was exhaling to get my old trademark voice, "My, aren't you a confident one." My voice sang out, like thousands of brass bells. "And why Should I join forces with you?"
He answered with a stereotypical cackle- like- he actually said "Muahahaha!" Really. You can't make this up.
He went on some big monologue about the corruption of the Consortium, how they were the real evil, Ect. Ect. I didn't listen.
I pulled a bottle out, took a drink, passed it to my wife casually, checked a watch I wasn't wearing, tested the edge of my sword with my thumb, and poured some fake gravel out of my boot while he prattled on and on and on. True believer villains were so predictable and dumb. And dangerous.
After he finally finished I glanced up and tilted my head at him. "I'm sorry, you kind of lost me after you actually said 'muahahahaha'. Could you repeat that?" For a second I thought he might actually do it. Like a full five seconds, silver sky above. He was full of himself. Instead he pointed at me and did the one thing that was worse. He said "Join me and together we can rule this planet as" -he paused, I assume to think of something to take the place of 'father and son' I waved my hand at him, getting him to pause "Child," I said, dropping my brazen tone for a disappointed father's "if I wanted to rule this planet I would. I don't, even if I did, my wife would kill me." He's spluttered for a second. "Did you retire for a woman?" His voice cracked. "Don't be ridiculous." I said "i met her a few years after I retired. I retired because the only way to stay active would have meant becoming something I really didn't want to be. See, I mostly did the whole super villain thing because I was a stupid, edgy teenager with superpowers." I shrugged.
"So if you're not here to help me, then what? Do you just want to watch me crush them?"
"Oh, I'm here to help. Just not you." And I moved.
*****
Talisman heard him say it, but it took longer to process than it really should have, by the time he fully comprehended what it just happened- Flamberge had already closed with the necromancer and hit him with a mighty blow, sending him tumbling, nearby a dozen zombies exploded.
"Fall back" he said, his voice hoarse and thin. "I don't think there's much we can do here anymore."
Jack took a few minutes to move everyone up to the Oracle.
Someone got a monitor setup broadcasting from one of the spy satellites while caduceus looked us all over. Flamberge wasn't really visible, in his place. Was a humanoid glare, wrapped entirely in bright white light battling the necromancer while they both flew through the air. Talisman looked over at the others, they were all white as sheets. Everyone knew that flamberge wasn't supposed to be able to fly. So, either all of their intelligence was wrong, or that wasn't flamberge at all...
******
This guy was actually pushing me, like, I was actually needing to try. Not hard, it's just I have never really had to try.
The first thing he did after I hit him was float up into the air and start cackling about how I couldn't fly.
I have to admit, the look on his face as I ran up an invisible staircase to Hit him was 100% worth it.
As the rest of the heroes finished their retreat, I noticed that one of the helicopters was starting to get a little bit bold. It was going to see through the blurring lens I had in a couple of seconds... I needed something different- I thought wasn't too hard. Emissivity and reflectivity are both material properties, a quick alteration of my skin and clothes had me reflecting enough light to dazzle the cameras.
It's also caused Captain cliche to recoil in pain...
You know, a necromancer attacking in Washington State under heavy cloud cover...
Probably should have expected light to hurt them. He's so cliche. He's actually injured by radiant damage. Wow.
I redoubled my attack, now staggered and burned by the light, it was almost farcically easy. I had him on the ropes, each blow dropping hundreds of his thralls as I burned through his reserves. But then he got desperate.
******
The bolt of black lightning caught whoever the hell that was in the chest and drove them to the ground hard enough to make a crater.
Talisman looked at the barely recovered heroes- "we might need to go ba-" he tried to say, before one of the surviving D classes pointed and shouted "look!"
******
ow Ow OW! My limbs felt like electric fire and my heart beat like a drum. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't made myself like adamantine that would have fried me. I drug myself out of the hole I had dug with my face and glared at the bastard.
The light I was reflecting - a dim amount from an overcast sky - made him smoulder. What was I doing messing around hitting him with a *sword.*
I held my blade up and focused....
******
Talisman watched the clouds disappear as the individual raised their sword and everything but a single line on the screen go pitch black. only for the auto gate to slowly filter down the image, a single beam of pure silver light blazed down, hundreds, then thousands of burning zombies and a single, black form slowly burning away again and again- then nothing.
Just a large, glowing crater where the Villain had been. "Who the hell is this guy"
******
I staggered out of the crater, not because I was weak or hurt, but because lava is shockingly both sticky and slippery. I got half way up before thinking "oh, I can just fly..."
Habits are hard to break.
The helicopters were now coming in much closer, but that wasn't an issue, I was still glowing.
I turned and looked at the approaching choppers, waved, and left at in a single, instant acceleration to hypersonic speeds.
I went home first, a shower and a change of clothes, then I jumped up to the Oracle.
It had been about ten, maybe fifteen minutes since I wrapped up. They were still all in the med bay, a loud argument about who exactly had just helped them was basically all the talking happening, and almost everyone was in on it, those that weren't were staring dumbfounded at the news replays of the end of the fight, pundits already spewing conjecture about who the hell I was.
Except my wife, she was sitting on a bed, Emily in her lap, the small silver flask she had given me for our anniversary in her hands.
I walked over to her and hugged her, she was stiff at first, then she returned the hug, I felt her hand slide the flask back into my pocket as she nuzzled into me. "We can talk about it later" I whispered to her.
I felt her nod against me.
In your time as a hero you fought many enemies and made many friends. As you are fighting your strongest opponent yet you are on the brink of defeat, when unexpected backup arrives. You thought your friends came to your aid, but are surprised to find your past enemies fighting by your side.

I had a dream that I found out an old fling was pregnant. It was on our way to a movie theater. A theater where you HAD to adopt a pup or kitten to go in. It was this IMMENSE premiere. There were cameras and recordings something happened on screen that I made a remark and people laughed but one of my friends were like "don't do this shit here. There are cameras"
My seat is shifted idk how. Probably because it's a dream lol. And it clicks that I'm not holding my puppy I go searching and found that he's right by my feet like a good boy. The floor is surprisingly not dirty and I pick him up. He's a little Jack Russell potato. A few weeks old. I continue to watch the movie. That fling is sitting two rows ahead, next to her man and she walks away for a time. Comes back opens her long coat to reveal lingerie underneath. Emerald lace top and bottom. Her man is baffled. The damn theater is baffled. I go 😳 and look away. See her do a little wiggle from the corner of my eye.
Resume watching movie. My puppy starts barking. I start trying to soothe him and hear a woman behind me say how they can be such handfuls. A little convo. Small talk before she says "oh. Here's mine" and it was another little Jack Russell. Sweet they had a good time.
Movie ended and we were leaving when I stepped out. Found myself in a classroom where one of my brothers' friends asked me the name of the puppy and I realized I didn't know. I hadn't chosen one. So they got to work on 2 small digital whiteboards writing names down. I can't for the life of me remember a single one but I didn't like ANY of them. Thought about it for a little and came to Green. It's different. It feels masculine. And Green is my favorite. Very childlike logic. I know. But I don't care. Names Green.
#dream log.#this feels like the first dream I've had in over a year.#I feel like i can pick the parts of the day and week where they all come from.#wtf brain

can you do one where y/n is jack's assistant and they sneak around and stuff please
i loved this and ofc it had to get a little angsty at the end!!! thanks for ur request!
***
You'd been watching Jack do a rehearsal for the past hour. You stayed on the front row the whole time, watching as danced and smiled- he was truly himself on stage and it was a wonderful thing to see. The two of you had been sneaking around with each other for close to six months and it was becoming easier to tell that things were heating up.
"I know, but you don't have to show it. It'll be bad for your image."
"Can we take a break?" he asked upon finishing half of his set list and you nodded from the chairs. Everyone else who was really in charge also gave the go-ahead, but he was really only seeking your approval.
He nodded and started walking, causing you to stand up and follow him to the stage exit. "Watch the cords, baby."
He smirked at you and you looked around afraid that someone had heard you. Although the situation was a bit cliche, there was arguably nothing wrong with your and Jack's relationship. All it took was one night together on the town for Jack to realize he had to have you one way or the other.
You were always in his inner circle, and after you dabbled in business, he asked you to be his assistant and help manage him. Of course you agreed, it was great experience and a great opportunity to travel and learn about yourself. Not to mention, you got paid to wrangle around a giant child and make sure he didn't do anything too stupid and tarnish his reputation. You slept with him for free.
"You called me baby while we weren't alone." he teased, hopping off the stage and towering over you.
"And I'll never do it again." you glared at him and you could see in his eyes that he wanted to kiss you. You put a hand on his chest and he licked his lips. "We can't. There's so many techs who could take a picture."
"I know." he said, but grabbed your hand anyway. "Come to the dressing room."
"We'll have time in the hotel for anything you want to do after the show tonight." you whispered.
Jack was always the anytime, anyplace one. You were a little more discreet, and not because you knew how damaging a public relationship could be for his media presence right now. Even without being his assistant, you wouldn't have wanted to break your little bubble, as tiresome as it was, it felt like keeping yourself safe. If he broke your heart, you wouldn't have to face the music of social media or your friends or his circle.
"I need to kiss you now." you huffed and let him lead you back up the stage
"Hey, where are you two going? We're going to go grab lunch then come back." Neelam yelled, sliding her purse on and Jack looked down at you.
"I need Y/N's help real quick. I'll catch up."
"We can wait." she offered, and you sighed.
"Maybe we should just-" Jack interrupted you with another excuse across the venue.
"I'll get us a car and we'll meet you." he said, turning around and nearly running to the back with you in tow.
When he finally got you into his small dressing room, he was relieved to sit down and pull you onto his lap. You smiled when he puckered his lips dramatically and let his head fall back when you gave him a soft kiss.
"People are going to find out if you don't stop acting like you can't live without me." you reminded him as you played with his sweaty curls and he gripped your ass.
"I can't."
"Of course, we are. Now's just not the time." his hands left your ass and he rested them on the back of the couch.
"So what? I'm supposed to spend my life keeping up a fuckboy reputation?" he held your hips and you shrugged. "I won't. We've been sneaking around for six months, Y/N. We're serious about each other, right?"
You hated having this conversation with Jack. After you two realized what you had was a little more than late night flings, he was ready to tell everyone who would listen. Granted he wanted to keep it private, but anytime someone caught you two looking a little too friendly with one another, he seemed ready to burst with your secret.
"Is it about me? You don't want to go public with me?"
"It's about thinking logically, J. Everyone knows I'm your assistant and if we start not caring about who's watching, then what will that say about me or you or us?"
"I don't care, Y/N. I want you and only fucking you."
"You're on top of your game, Jack. You're about to release a number one hit. They're talking about pairing you up with models for PR, you're getting industry party invites. I'm not all you want, I'm all you know."
"So, what am I to you, then?" he asked, his blue eyes that were once bright as the sky dimmed and his hands that were eager to feel you up gripped the fluff of the couch.
"Forget I bought it up, Jack." you said, climbing off his lap and grabbing your purse.
"Nah, you had all of that analysis before, say something. Say I was just enough to get you off."
"Don't even try and imply that I was using you. I just know who you were before us."
"But nothing, nobody, could ever change me, right? I thought I was showing you the real me, Y/N, but you had the media in your ear the whole fucking time. That's fine, though."
Even through his rough delivery, you knew he was hurt. As you stood there, you thought about the past few months. Discussing all of Jack's next moves and watching what the world had to say about him and everyone's perception of him began to taint your own thoughts and feelings.
A critical lapse in judgement may have caused the break in your heart you were expecting Jack to deliver.
"Jack, baby, I'm not-"
He stood up and ignored you entirely. "Urban already sent a car back."
"Jack," you sighed, wiping your eyes as tears began to slide down your cheeks. "I'm sorry. You're the best I've ever known, I promise you."
He nodded and plucked a tissue from the box to hand it to you. He turned around and left you in the dressing room alone. For the first time in a long time, Jack left you without some form of physical affection. Not a kiss, not a squeeze, not even a wink or a text a moment later.
Just a cold reminder of what you had and what you could've had gone.

When you Wish Upon a Star
Pairing: Karlnapity x Reader
Request: Can you maybe write some poly karlnapity x reader fluff with a bit of angst?
Word count: 1.7k
Warning: memory loss, angst, cursing, loss/relationship strain, depression (?)
A/n: haha memory issues go brrrrrr. Sorry if it's bad, i wanted angst but didn't know how-
Your world was slowly becoming a monochrome film. So meaningless and alien to what your life once was. All color and life had left and all that remained was an empty shell of what once was. Your boys were no longer sticking together, acting like the loving couple that they are. Or were. You couldn’t tell what the status of y’all relationship was. It felt like everything was falling apart. Nobody was communicating with each other and they weren’t coming home sometimes, going missing for days on end with no contact.
Now sometimes business could be rough and long, so that wasn’t an abnormal thing. No, the issue was how increasingly common this “uncommon” occurrence was. Anxiety boiled in your chest with every night that passed without your lovers. Cuddling with just one wasn’t the same as with them all. You just wished everything would return to its original state; all four of your being a giddy and affectionate couple. Back to that honeymoon stage.
Everything was becoming so different, much less vibrant. Like a depression had fallen onto y’alls happily-ever-after. You only had Sapnap for comfort, and vice versa. There was no Quackity to rely on or Karl to giggle all the worries all away. And it was painfully obvious how it was affecting everybody, yet nobody did anything to fix it.
Quackity never came to y’all for comfort. He was always at his damn casino or scheming a way to end Techno’s anarchy. Slowly he just stopped talking to y’all like he loved you. Now you and Sapnap were like a war council, but even then he wouldn’t listen to y’all advice. He’d just rant to y’all about how much he despised Techno and wanted to kill him, destroy the damn god complex the man had.
But Quackity was blind to himself; he was on a high horse and saw himself as a worthy opponent, somebody who could subdue such a savage beast. Every time Quackity came home bloody and on the brink of death, it killed you on the inside. Why wasn’t he coming to y’all about the issues? Why did he think he was so alone in his endeavor?
And you didn’t even want to mention Karl’s condition. He was acting so odd now. More forgetful and aloof. It was like he was a complete stranger now. Your interactions were slowly becoming shorter and shorter, less meaningful and shallow. From meaningful, deep and loving talk during cuddle sessions to a curt, cold and disconnected. Sapnap even tried to get information out of him, but he stayed closed and guarded like a clam. Then he’d also come home with some injuries, but there was never an explanation for why he got hurt. Quackity at least admitted to what happened, so you knew what possible dangers he was facing. But Karl? He was an absolute mystery now.
Karl wasn’t the type of person to be so mysterious. Well, cold and mysterious that is. Definitely a mystery though, but so charismatic that you could easily push that fact aside. He used to be so cute and “unsuspecting”. Now that’s the same case, but subtract the “cute and unsuspecting” part. His newfound apathy worried you to no end. It was like he was completely detached from reality.
It was such a silly thing, but you wished for the stars, asking them to help you. Please, you needed your boys back. You didn’t know how much longer you could keep living through this cycle.
Quackity’s hyper-independence and Karl’s now apathetic attitude was disheartening. And the effect it had on Sapnap was heartbreaking. He kept blaming himself for the relationship for falling apart. You reassured him that it wasn’t his fault, but you were hypocritical. Telling someone that it wasn’t their fault that a relationship was failing yet blaming oneself for the same thing? Honestly it wasn’t just one singular person’s fault; everyone was to blame. Nobody was communicating, which harmed the relationship you once thrived in.
So you begged the stars for guidance, for a chance at mending your dying relationship. There wasn’t a way you could live without your lovers.
You should’ve been more careful for what you wished for.
________________________________________________
Sapnap commed you one day, which wasn’t abnormal by any means. You two talked throughout the day multiple times. That was the only consistent thing that was still steady. A constant in your ever changing lives. But when you got on call with him, he sounded different, desperate and panicked. Your anxiety started to peak when he spoke, but the subject of the call made time stop. No way- there was no way.
You fucking chunked whatever the hell you were holding or doing out of your hands. It was way less important now. Honestly you can’t even remember what you were doing. All you knew was that you had to get to them and swiftly. No time could be wasted. Sapnap needed you right now. Your boys needed you. Everything was on the line. Well, for you it felt like that. Your boys were your everything; if one more “unfortunate” accident occurred to them, you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself. You were absolutely failing at protecting them. They protected and loved you for so long, and you wanted to protect them now.
Sapnap had begged, nearly demanding you come to Karl’s library that instant. Karl had apparently appeared there, and he wasn’t looking so good. He said he also contacted Quackity so he should be there too, but who knows if he’ll actually be there.
When the library came into sight, your anxiety both increased yet decreased, allowing joy to grow alongside it. The combination was odd, one that sounds like it shouldn’t be put together. Yet that’s exactly what you felt; bitterness and cold with some warmth hidden beneath the surface like a sun chasing the night way at dawn. You bolted into the building, frantically sweeping the immediate area for Sapnap and Karl. No sign of them. Your panic grew exponentially. Where were they? You yelled out, hoping to hear any sign of them.
Some commotion was made from your left. Walking closer to it, you caught sight of Sapnap’s shoes. He peaked around the corner to check the new visitor, and almost ran to you. The moment he stood, he hesitated. He took a step forward and stopped, looking between you and where you presumed Karl was. Ultimately he just took a few more steps toward you before turning back to Karl. When you arrived at Sapnap’s side, you dropped to your knees alongside him. There one of your worst fears faced you.
Karl lay on the ground, unconscious and bloody. He was so pale, it scared you. How long was he like this? What happened to him? Would he make it? You didn’t want to know the answer to it. Specifically, you didn’t want to know in case he wasn’t going to make it. Seeing him like this, it’d hurt too much to know the reality. You just wanted your old picture-perfect life back. Yes, it wasn’t absolutely perfect, but it was perfect for you and your boys.
So much time must’ve passed with you and Sapnap just watching Karl, tending to the wounds he had. It was fortunate that only his head showed clear signs of damage. Yet that was also a very unfortunate thing. There could be so much potential damage done and you’d never know if he was or wasn’t okay unless something happened to him.
You were so focused on Karl that you hadn’t realized that Quackity had joined y’all until he gently laid his hand on your shoulder, which shocked you out of your trance. Quackity’s eyes and face were red and puffy, tears trailed down his face and he was out of breath and panting. But he was here. You jumped up to hug him, pulling him down to the ground with you, Sapnap and Karl. Sapnap joined in the hug without a word. A sniffle left Sapnap, but you never mentioned it. This was a very stressful situation.
After a short period of pseudo peace, the exhaustion finally started to take ahold of y’all with the adrenaline slowly leaving your systems. Talking it out for a bit, after seeing how visibly tired everyone was, it was decided that y’all would watch over him in shifts. There was a small squabble for who’d be first; each of you wanted to be first to sate your guilt. It wasn’t long until a victor was declared; Quackity would take the first shift. Then Sapnap and finally you. The plan fucking pissed you off so much and there wasn’t a reason for it to. It just did, and you couldn’t pinpoint what it was. But you didn’t question it. If conflict could be avoided, then it’d be best to go along with the plan.
One moment you were blinking, trying to fight off sleep and the next Quackity was shaking you awake. You were so groggy and barely heard what he said. It must’ve been so obvious to Quackity that you just weren’t hearing jack shit, but he kept repeating- something. You actually had no clue if he was repeating something or just babbling. All you heard was noise and his mouth was moving. What could be so important that he was just fucking shaking you like a damn earthquake- oH SHIT!
Without a second thought, you jump to your feet and flop just a bit closer to Karl. You got up too quickly but you made it to your goal, kinda, so score! Scrambling to your feet, more accurately your knees, you view the situation.
All you could see was Karl sitting up and talking to Sapnap. That’s all that mattered though- he was alright. Karl was alive and thriving- okay that was debatable- but still! Your Karl was okay!
You’re on your feet in a flash once again, flinging yourself into Karl’s arms. The relief that washed over you was immense. Cleansing you of all your anxieties.
Yet he didn’t hug you back. Matter of fact, he did nothing at all. He froze up. Though it went unnoticed by you. Salty tears dripped down your face and splattered onto his jacket. Quackity joined in on your group hug, cry and babbling his apologies along the way.
Suddenly you and Quakity are shoved away, landing into Sapnap’s waiting arms. Saying you were shocked would be an understatement. Confused also couldn’t, yet they were the first words your frazzled mind could conjure.
“Who are you all?”

i see the jac-kath-rizz reblog circle has taken this post. so
would love some DITF headcanons! but also for a left field thought. what would u do with a western au. go cowboys go -💥 @jack-kellys
ok i got another ask for DITF so !! western au:
are u fucking kidding me. cattle drives.
davey somehow being roped into the cowboy lifestyle from his middle class upbringing; he's damn good on a horse, and herding cattle can't be too hard, right?
he's first approached in Fort Worth by a man who's taking his family up north, and davey is offered a pretty penny to help keep the cattle in check, so he takes the job.
one of the other men on the team is Francisco "Jack" Kelly, a cattle driver from Mexico, who davey is immediately enamored with. Jack is a soft soul and comes alive in a saddle, and they're the two youngest on the trip at 22, so they spend a lot of time together.
also at this time, there still aren't many railroads that will transport your cattle, so they help this man knowing that theres a chance they wont make it home.
and it's not easy. they lose about half of the (thankfully large) herd by the time they're in Abilene, even the rest of the trip is rough in other ways too.
i imagine davey and jack grow really close. when they set up camp, davey and jack are typically the ones who volunteer to guard the cattle first while the other men sleep, and they talk for hours on end about everything under the sun. davey talks about his faith and growing up in a Jewish family in a larger city a lot, and tells jack he started this lifestyle because he wanted something more tactile, more grounding. jack tells davey about growing up in Mexico, and how his family came to Texas because of conflicts back home, but he's always lived on a ranch and loves being wild and free.
they grow a lot closer than they should. sneaking kisses in the moonlight, intimate nights in tents when everyone else was asleep or watching the herd, sly touches and eyes for only each other.
there would be a lot of life or death moments on the trail- river crossings, territorial fights, bandits, illness, stampedes- but they would ultimately make it our alive, albeit with a diminished herd. once they recieve their pay, they start the trek back to Fort Worth.
whether they make it is a mystery, but legend has it, two bachelors roll into Santa Fe one day, and they never leave. daveys family never sees him again, but they receive letters often to let them know he's alive and well.
this turned out to be more of an au explanation rather than headcanons bc i forgot what i was doing so here are some random headcanons:
davey was actually really good in school! he was supposed to become a doctor or a lawyer, but he couldn't stand the thought of settling, not when he realized his lust for adventure (likely after a fling with a boy from school. this, combined with the general fear of his homosexuality being found out, leads hil to leave!)
jack is a wonderful storyteller, and enjoys illustrating them as well. davey finds a leatherbound sketchpad at a trading post one day, and trades his grandfather's pocket watch for it, gifting it to jack late one July night around the time of jacks birthday!
even though autism didn't """""exist""""" back then (aka they didn't have words for it), davey is definitely autistic. some days are harder than others because he gets really oversentitive, so little things start to bother him, like the feeling of the reins in his hands or the way the wind whips his hair around even though he's wearing a hat.
jack and davey first confess to each other by drinking a little too much whiskey while watching the cattle overnight
they settle down because jack gets hurt; his shoulder is injured badly in an incident with his horse, so he and davey find their way to Santa Fe and settle.
#if you see any of '1883' in this no you do not#jkjk that show is so fucking good . i love it a lot#i love !! this au !!#jack kelly#davey jacobs#newsies#david jacobs#livesies#newsies musical#broadway newsies#western au#ask a jac !

The Storm
Summary: You work with Jack Crawford and Alana is your cousin, both of you live together for a long time. She gets caught up with a flat tire far away and asks you to let Will in, for he's expecting her. A storm is coming, and she keeps taking longer and longer to show up. Will the universe conspire in your favor?
Pairing: Will Graham x reader
Warnings: swearing, insinuation of smut, fluff.
Word count: 4.328
A/n: I'm starting to consider changing this tumblr for a Hannibal one, mostly Will Graham, so some requests from other fandoms would be nice haha hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing ♥️

There wasn't a thing such as a boring day at the BAU.
At least not when you're part of Jack Crawford's crew. There was always an interesting case to focus on, a disfigured body to study the reason of death, it was always a thrilling hunt for evidence. The best experience I've ever had so far in my career, and I could only thank my cousin Alana for putting me on the Guru's radar. I was a great crime scene investigator, albeit a little younger than people gave me credit for. I taught people not to underestimate me over the years, though. I got here by my own effort, being a tenacious, hard-working woman who wouldn't get a no for an answer.
I got along well with my crewmates, Beverly Katz, Brian Zeller and Jimmy Price, though our relationship hardly extended for life outside work. Except for Beverly, we went out for a couple of beers sometimes, she was fun, witty and I really liked our conversations. Jack was the big boss, and that was it. I had a lot of respect for him, and I knew he didn't regret bringing me to his team, I could see it in his eyes in the first case I've got. I was very cunning when I shared my insights about the cases, sometimes I saw things no one else could, no one but…
Of course, I was far, far away from being a Will Graham. But ever since I was younger, I've had this sort of intuition that helped me to solve problems, I would solve riddles easily and when people asked me how I got to the answer, I wouldn't know the steps, I just knew deep in my bones I was right. That happened a lot when I was growing up and was even stronger now that I knew how to use it. It was some artifice of my inconscient, something I could always count on. It included everything in my life, math, logical thinking, riddles. My brain picked things I couldn't perceive clearly, bringing them to the clear waters of my conscience.
Will Graham was a curious man. He intrigued me from the very first moment I saw him at the house of one of the last victims of The Minnesota Shrike, Garret Jacob Hobbs, now dead. He was practically hiding in a corner, his eyes closed behind the lens of his glasses, dark wavy hair, jawline for days. He seemed highly focused until Beverly started to talk to him, pulling him out of his daze. He could barely look at her, or at me, and although he looked socially awkward and troubled, he still managed to look like a daydream. I studied every inch of his face, lowering my gaze when he seemed to get uncomfortable, after smiling lightly. I was a bit shy myself. I lived with Alana and, when I got home that night, I absentmindedly asked her about that curious handsome man who seemed to be out of place, yet so connected to that scene. She started to talk about him, but stopped once she noticed my interest. Then, she told me he was a very unstable person, that she wouldn't even be alone in the room with him because of her professional curiosity. As time passed and he solved more and more cases, I could see how people looked at him like an attraction of the zoo. However, not me, and later, not Beverly. Brian didn't seem to like him very much, I could see. Envy, perhaps? Nevertheless, the more I saw Will, the more intrigued I got. He avoided eye contact like the plague, but as I was always friendly and tried my best to treat him like a normal person, not focusing only on work, dead bodies and serial killers, I saw more of those beautiful blue eyes. He knew I was Alana's cousin, and I sooner realized he had a fling for her.
And boy, did that break my silly little heart. I wasn't surprised, though. Who could blame him? Alana was amazing. I never felt resentful for that, but as time passed, I started to detach from the idea of Will being somewhat more than a simple acquaintance. That afternoon, I was going home from work when I got a call from Alana.
"Speak fast, I'm driving." I said, keeping one hand on the wheel and the other holding my phone.
"You're going home? Great. I invited Will so we could talk about a profile I'm building, but I got caught up here. I already spoke to him, he's almost there, can you let him in? He said he'll wait, and I'll be home in about fifty minutes, no more than that, hopefully." She said in a hurry, and I felt my cheeks burn a little. Will and me? Home alone?
"I…" I hesitated, chewing my bottom lip nervously. "You won't be long, right? Heard on the radio there’s a storm for later."
"I won't, promise. Just let him in, he's already aware I'll take a little longer to be there. See you soon. Thanks, Y/n!" She hung up, not leaving me any time to answer. I put the phone down, still chewing on my bottom lip. I could feel excitement rising on my stomach, making me feel slightly nauseated, and noticed my hands starting to sweat.
Please. That was ridiculous. What was I, a teenager? I was a grown-up, well-succeeded woman, for God's sake. I rubbed my hands on my jeans, driving a little faster than I usually did almost unconsciously. I got home after twenty minutes, parking outside the pretty house. Will was already there, leaning against his car, so lost in his thoughts he barely noticed I'd arrived. I looked at my reflection at the mirror hurriedly, fixing my hair, pinching my cheeks to look less pale, brushing my eyebrows with my fingers to make them look neat. I wasn't even wearing any lipstick today. It had been a long day at work.
I opened the car door, exiting the vehicle, the noise from shutting the door finally bringing him out of his daze, and he finally seemed to notice me. He smiled lightly, lowering his eyes. He had his glasses on, but as soon as he saw me, he took them off, hanging them on his shirt.
"Hey, Will. I hope I haven't kept you waiting too long. There was a little bit of traffic." I justified, walking to the porch and waiting for him to follow me.
"Y/n. Not at all, I just got here. Alana explained what happened, thanks for coming to let me in. Hope I didn't ruin any appointment you may have had." He waited until I unlocked the door, and we finally were engulfed with the warm air of the heater.
"Nope, I was coming home, no appointments lost. Please, come in. I'm not sure you've ever been here before, but make yourself home." I hung my trench coat, sighing with the pleasure of being home. I loved the atmosphere of that place. "Can I get you anything? Water, soda, beer…"
"Thank you. I'm fine. And no, I haven't been here before." I held back the temptation of saying "good", biting my bottom lip as I watched him sit on the couch. I just stood there for a while, not sure of what to do next.
He frowned a little, probably thinking why I was acting so weird, and that made me nervous, because it was just an easy step to realize my silly crush on him. Did he know? What if Alana said something? Said something? For fuck's sake, he was Will Graham, he could probably see that written across my stupid face! Shit, he knows. I'm making a fool of myself. Why do I even…
"Is everything okay?" His voice startled me a little, pulling me out of my neurotic breakdown, and I wondered how my facial expressions looked. Was I blinking only one eye like the stereotyped madness of cartoons? I certainly didn't look normal. I cleared my throat, laughing lightly.
"Yeah. Yeah, I guess I'm not really used to having people over anymore. I've been working a lot lately. People are dying like flies." I sat on the armchair in front of him, sighing.
"What we do can be overwhelming sometimes. What we see every day. It just… stains you." He said, with a dark look on his serious eyes.
I nodded. I felt that way sometimes, but I was used to it. I stopped feeling that sense of inadequacy on my chest years ago.
"I guess you just begin to cope with it, though. Our brain adapts to that harsh reality. But it's always nice to vent somehow. What do you do in your free time?" I asked, wondering if I was getting too personal. Did I sound like I was probing to ask him out? I felt my face getting warm. Damn it.
Either he didn't realize, or he was just too chivalrous to point, but he didn't mention anything.
"I fish." He said, simply. I nodded with a light smile.
"And you play with your doggies." I pointed, smiling wider. I loved dogs. He'd mentioned them before, so I just brought the subject up, trying to shift the attention from me to them. Will smiled back, his eyes with a subtle glow. He really loved them, and that was so sweet. "Fishing sounds nice. Unfortunately, I could never. I'm too restless. I'd probably startle all the fish and wouldn't catch anything."
He laughed, and that was the first time I ever heard that sound coming out of him. I felt like I was someone deaf that was able to hear the sound of Mozart's symphonies for the first time, and I just knew. There was never detachment from the idea of Will being more than an acquaintance. It was tackled down inside my brain somewhere, for the brain tends to adapt to harsh realities, but it was still there, just waiting for some incentive.
"It's just a matter of training, getting used to it. I could teach you someday… if you want." He blinked a few times, as if he was surprised with his own boldness, smiling lightly. "And you? What do you do to vent?" He asked, seeming genuinely interested.
"Well, I read a lot. Maybe I could read by the riverside while I watch you fish." I said, shrugging with a subtle smile.
"It's a date, then?" Will inquired, making me mortified. Caught me by total surprise, and when I was about to say something, my phone rang.
"Excuse me." I answered the phone. It was Alana. "Hey. We're already here waiting for you."
Not that I wanted her to arrive any time sooner, but she didn't have to know that.
"You won't believe me; I've got a flat tire. There's a guy helping me out, I was lucky, I'm in the middle of nowhere. But I'll get there in about fifty more minutes, more or less. Can you put Will on the phone? I'll explain everything to him."
"Do you need one of us to pick you up? I'm sure he wouldn't mind, I wouldn't…"
"No, he's almost done. Thank you. Let me talk to Will, I'll be there soon. The storm is about to catch me, I wanna hurry."
I sighed, grimacing at him.
"She wants to talk to you." I passed him the phone, studying his expressions while he talked to her. As I looked at the window, I could see the dark clouds gathering up, making the end of the afternoon murky. The storm was about to hit hard. I could see a few thin drops of rain starting to wet the glass.
"I can stay a little longer, no problem. I'm being well attended." He traded looks with me, biting his lip slightly. "Okay. I'll see you soon, Alana."
He gave me the phone, but Alana was already gone. I put it on the coffee table, getting up.
"I think I'll pour myself some wine. Do you want some?" I asked politely. "It's one of the fanciest ones; Hannibal gave us a bottle when we dined at his house a few days ago."
"Yes. Thank you." He waited for me to come back with the beverages, and I did my best not to spill anything, sitting on the couch beside him while I gave him the glass. "So you're acquainted with Dr. Lecter?"
"Oh yeah, he's an old friend of Alana's, sometimes he invites us to dinner. He cooks the best meals I've ever had in my entire life, so I don't exactly decline the invitations. And he's one of the most brilliant people I've ever met, so it's always interesting." I took a sip of the crimson liquid, moaning low in pleasure. Good wine. I preferred a good cup of hot oolong, but it was impossible not to appreciate the quality of that drink.
A few glasses after and a lot of talks about dogs, fishing and other hobbies, he finally felt safe to bring back the topic. The rain had started really pouring, the now thicker drops hitting the windows loudly. Alana hadn't called again. It was nighttime now, the sky seeming to be darker than usual. I was low-key worried about her, but the conversation was too great to interrupt. She was a good driver. She would be just fine.
"I've been seeing Hannibal Lecter in his office. Not exactly his patient, though. A courtesy of Jack Crawford to keep an eye on the coping of my brain functions." He sounded a bit bitter, drinking a few sips of his wine.
I could see he didn't like therapy. Must be hard with someone with a mind like his.
"You know, sometimes, Alana psychoanalyses me. Like, she doesn't even notice. It's cute, but sometimes it creeps me out."
"She has a professional curiosity about me, but she's too polite and considerate to let it slip out. We've never even been alone in the same room together."
I held back a bitter comment, not wanting to talk shit about my cousin, but he saw it right through me.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to put you in a complicated position."
"I know. You're sweet." The word slipped through my tongue before I could contain it. Will blinked a few times, seeming surprised, and I felt my cheeks burn, starting to stutter. "I meant… I'm sorry, did I make you uncomfortable?"
"No, no. It's just… no one's ever called me that before." It was my time to get surprised. He didn't seem to be complimented much, and that just made me flabbergasted. I couldn't be the only one who saw how fantastic Will was.
"... Ah. Well, some people are just shy. I'm shy as hell, don't even know how I had the nerve to say that, it's probably the wine starting to kick in. Hope I really didn't make you uncomfortable, though. Don't need to be polite, it's okay to tell me."
"Actually, I'm curious to know what else you think of me. I sense it's not the only word you have to define me." He sounded bolder, and his eyes were on mine, giving me shivers down my spine.
"Well… I think you're too exceptional to be defined with a few words. You're… Kind, brilliant… I see how seeing what you see, doing what you do, how it wrecks you sometimes, and you just keep doing it because you're saving lives. That's so selfless, Will. That's…" I was going to say more, but at that very moment, a loud thunder just made the house practically tremble, and I let out a real inelegant weep, coming closer to Will and holding his arm firmly, my fingers grabbing on the fabric of his shirt. He could've thought it was an artifice to get closer to him, but he could see how frightened I was, trembling like a cornered wild little beast. I hated thunders, fireworks, anything loud. Feeling ridiculous, I released his shirt, apologizing with embarrassment.
"It's okay. It's just noise. I'm here." He put some of my hair that had fallen to my face behind my ear with such a tenderness that I felt my stomach twitch, realizing suddenly how close we were. He was looking at me as if it was the first time he was actually seeing me.
The phone rang again. Alana! I grabbed it from the coffee table, turning to face Will. He wasn't avoiding eye contact anymore, his pupils were dilated. My breathing was accelerated, and I knew it had little to do with the thunder.
"Lana, is everything okay?" I asked with genuine concern. "Are you close?"
"Ah, Y/n. I'm so sorry. I don't think I'll make it in time, I'm driving slow, the roads are slippery because of the storm and it's pretty foggy. I'll stop at a motel and spend the night, or at least wait for the storm to pass. I'm so furious with myself!"
"It's okay cuz, do what's safer for you. I'm sure Will will understand. I'll pass him the phone." I gave him the phone and he talked to Alana for a few minutes, but I wasn't listening. She'd ruined the moment unintentionally, and now he was probably going home. When would I have an opportunity like that again?
"Okay. Don't worry. I'll see you tomorrow. Bye, Alana. Take care." He gave me the phone and I put it on the coffee table again. Before any of us could say anything, another thunder cracked the sky, and this time, Will held me so I wouldn't be afraid. The lights went out, and he held me against his chest protectively, making me smell his aftershave and some perfume. He smelled so good. For a moment, I just stood there in his arms, feeling his warmth, his breath, the steady beats of his heart.
I moved away just a little to see his face, very close to mine, but it was so dark I could only see shadows. A lightning lit up the room and, just for a little moment, I could see his gorgeous eyes staring at me. After a soft touch of his thumb on my lips, he finally kissed me, so gentle, like I could break as fine china with any rougher move. I touched his neck with both my hands, playing with his hair, feeling how soft they were. He pulled me closer, his hands on my waist, and the kiss started to get deeper, voracious, as if we were hungry for each other. Maybe the wine was helping to raise the lust; all I know is that I've wanted that to happen for a long time. Will's kiss was everything I imagined it would be, but entirely different at the same time. All I could say was that he was great at it. His hands traveled through my body, and I grabbed his hair, pulling it slightly. That made a low growl echo through his chest, and I started to feel my body fervent as a bonfire.
I couldn't say much because I was breathless and I didn't want to stop what we were doing, so a single word left my lips as I kept my forehead on his.
"Stay."
Will bit his lip, kissing me again, and that was all the answer I needed.
xx
Morning. Thin sunrays illuminated my bedroom floor through the curtains, waking me up. The storm was gone. I haven't had a nice night of sleep like that in ages. I looked at the other side of my bed and there was Will, sleeping heavily. It wasn't a dream, after all. Last night really happened. I smiled, staring at the roof with disbelief in my eyes.
I stared at him for a few seconds, unsure of what to do. Should I just let him sleep? He looked so heavenly, his hair was messy, his breathing steady, he seemed so less troubled than he usually was. I touched his hair lightly, caressing it with tenderness, and he started to move. I could see his neck, and a few hickies we marked on his albescent skin. That made me blush a little bit, and I laughed silently.
He opened his eyes while I still touched his hair, but I didn't stop, and he didn't seem to want me to. We stared at each other in silence for a few moments, and he smiled, a different smile than the usual ones he gave me.
"Hi." He said, pulling me closer by my waist, stroking the skin under the sheets. I pecked him on the lips, then kissing his forehead, his cheek, his jawline.
"Hey there. Good morning. I'm starving, are you having breakfast with me?"
"Actually, I gotta go home. Feed the dogs." He said, stroking my nude shoulder with his finger.
"Of course. Your dogs. I won't keep you then, poor babies must be so hungry." I kissed his cheek and was about to get up when he pulled me again, gently kissing my lips. I smiled, probably looking like an idiot. A joyful idiot. "I'll let you get dressed. I'll be in the kitchen."
I dressed up in my long and black robe, smiling at him before I left the room, going to the kitchen, where I started to make some french toasts. After a few minutes, I heard the front door open, and an exhausted Alana came in, her hair frizzy and her coat looking still a bit wet.
"Oh, Lana! Go change, you'll get a cold!" I stopped what I was doing, going to her and helping to take off her coat.
"That storm was a nightmare. I swear I won't ignore the warnings ever again. I'm so sorry, I had no idea it would get this bad, yesterday was one of those days where everything just goes wrong. Hope Will arrived well at home, did he seem disappointed or annoyed before he left? I was so inconvenient…"
I didn't even have time to answer, because Will opened my bedroom door, coming out while buttoning his shirt, suddenly realizing Alana was there.
"Oh." Alana said, looking so flabbergasted I almost laughed at her. Will rose his eyebrows at the sight of her, seeming a bit unsure of what to do or say. I wasn't planning for her to find out like this, it was a bit early, I wasn't expecting her to arrive so soon. "Hi, Will."
"Alana. Hi." He avoided looking at her, staring at me, and his eyes immediately softened. I smiled, he smiled back, and that was it, Alana was forgotten.
"Off you go to feed your children." I joked, biting my bottom lip. "I guess I'll see you later, then."
"Definitely." He simply said, kissing my forehead while caressing my hair, certainly a little embarrassed to kiss me in front of Alana. "See you later, Y/n. Bye, Alana."
"Bye, Will." I waved with a soft smile, and he grabbed his jacket, leaving the house.
My smile grew larger and I left my head fall back, squeaking low in commemoration. What a night! What a morning! I never thought I would thank a storm so much, let alone a bloody thunder.
Before Alana could say anything, I realized Will had left his glasses at the coffee table, and I picked it up in a hurry, bursting through the front door and calling him before he left, waving in front of the car.
"You forgot your glasses!" I said, and he opened the car windows, raising his hand to pick them.
I leaned against the car window, putting the glasses on him, and kissing his lips fiercely. He moaned in surprise, holding my face to deepen the kiss. After a moment, I pulled away, appreciating the view of his lips so reddish.
"Go back inside, it's cold." He said with a cheeky smile, and before I could say he actually made me hotter, he took off with the car.
I went back inside, where Alana was waiting for me with her arms crossed.
"What the hell did you do to Will Graham?" She asked, sounding severe, but a smile was trying to escape her lips "I mean, besides trying to suck his soul with your mouth a few moments ago."
"Oh, shut up!" I laughed, blushing violently. "You made that happen, you know? Thank you. Was that a set up or did the universe actually conspire in my favor?"
"I wish I'd planned this. That would mean I would've had a plan b and I wouldn't have stayed at that disgusting mote… Y/n, you're full of hickies, I can't believe you!"
"You're starting to sound like my mom, Lana. I'm gonna wear a turtleneck, don't worry, I don't want Beverly all over me like a bloodhound and Brian and Jimmy's witty comments today. In fact, keep it to yourself, okay? Will's discreet. I won't even tell Beverly, if she finds out, the whole bureau will know, hell, maybe even Freddie Lounds."
"I told you to let it go, Y/n. Will's very unstable right now. I… I only want what's best for you." She said with concern in her bright blue eyes. I sighed, walking to her and kissing her cheek with affection.
"You're a good cousin. But I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself, okay? Unless this isn't only about me, unless it concerns something else." I raised an eyebrow while staring at her, more confident that I've ever been. "Is there something you wanna tell me?"
She hesitated, clenching her jaw, but never spoke.
I smiled, tapping her cheek very lightly in approval.
"I gotta get ready to work. Wanna grab lunch with me later?" I asked in a casual tone, a cynical smile on my face. She shrugged. "See you later then, cuz."

If there is only one thing to know, it is this: The woman who exited Witness Protection in 2006 was not the woman who had once been the sharpest Special Victims Unit ADA in New York.
The death of Valez and the extradition of Connors that had permitted her freedom from anonymity also left Alexandra with a life bitten ragged around the edges. Her relationship with her father was never the same; as grateful as he was that his daughter was alive and well, the knowledge that Darcie had gone to her grave thinking Alex was dead was a deep scar to bear.
Everywhere she looked, there was a life she had begun building and then abandoned like a child grown bored of a toy. In Wisconsin, there had been Greg, in her second placement, another man left behind like Alex was some mythical creature they outgrew as they slumbered.
Only men, however - never another woman. It was an edict that had written itself beneath Alex's skin, without deliberation or protest.
She returned to Manhattan without much thought as to whether it was the best idea. It was where she had started her career, so logically it was where she had a professional reputation; not many strings had to be pulled to get herself up and running again. Bureau Chief Cabot had a fine ring to it, even if she did have to supervise a group of newbies chomping at the proverbial bit.
But make no mistake - it was as far from SVU as Alex could get. The soft, hopeful blonde that had dreamed of a life with Olivia Benson, who had grown up privileged and hungry for everything she could get from the world was no more. The Alexandra who resettled in Manhattan was buttoned-up, distrustful, and in it for the win rather than the moral high ground.
The new Alexandra was a woman who used sex to satisfy her need for contact and not much more; who chose her relationships for ease of placement, not depth. When she got lonely she had flings, and when one of those flings turned into an engagement, Alex shrugged and kept up appearances.
She had been Bureau Chief a little over a year when the phone calls started coming. The number she didn't recognize, but the voice on the message had turned her insides into a hot, riotous mix of desire and anxiety.
"Uh hi . . . Alex. It's Li - Olivia. I'd heard you've been back, so I wanted to call and see if you . . . how things are going. Call me back . . . if you want, y'know. You can use this number. Bye."
Olivia's voice on that first message was hesitant, nervous, fumbling. Alex heard all of the unspoken questions holding space between the carefully chosen words: How long have you been avoiding me? Are you okay? Have you forgotten me? Alex let the message sit for a week before deleting it in a moment of weakness, locked in her office drinking bourbon and letting her fingers dance over the phone receiver in entertainment of the idea of calling Liv back.
The second message appeared about two weeks after that.
"Alex," it began, and the put-on confidence made the blonde wonder if Olivia was drinking that time, herself. "Please just give me a call and let me know you're okay. I'm not looking to impose myself on your life."
As cold as it seemed . . . as it probably was, Alexandra still didn't pick up the phone. The illusionary distance that was still between herself and Liv was the only barrier that held firm her new persona. The Alex who didn't want to feel, didn't want to get too close to anything - not people, jobs or cases.
Next it was Elliot who called. Alex had wondered if they were still sleeping together as she listened to Elliot's low voice skirt the boundary of anger and pleading. Had Olivia asked him to call, or had he called on his own after a couple months of watching Liv gaze hungrily at the phone?
Either way, Alex still wasn't swayed. Her career as Bureau Chief ADA plodded forward, and the only time she spoke with Olivia was in her dreams. Another year passed that way, with the calls coming less and less often. Alexandra ended her engagement along the way - an act of mercy, she told herself.
Then another year, until at last she had been out of Witness Protection for three. She couldn't have known that the next time the phone would ring, it would be Jack McCoy. He, too, was asking her to walk directly back into Olivia Benson's orbit - just not for the same reasons.
.
.
On the morning that Alex had left her for a second time, Olivia rose and for just the briefest moment thought that maybe things would be easier. She was quick to realize that, like a slip in quitting any addiction that consumes you, giving her up a second time would be even harder.
Liv put her heart into the work, and bit by bit, the year started to pass.
Then, on a cool evening in October, Olivia opened up her apartment door to find Elliot on the other side, eyes red-rimmed and temples pounding. Just hours before, he had attacked a man for abusing their son. She had no idea where El had disappeared to after that.
Liv hadn't yet had the need to seek out the weight and intensity of Elliot's body since her night with Alex. It had been at least seven months since they had slept together - but she secretly doubted it would ever make a difference. They fit together like two halves of a whole when it came to seeking out this sort of comfort. Soon, they were once again sleeping together as a means to dull the sharp edges of their pain.
The first year that Alexandra was back in Manhattan was such a whirlwind for Olivia that she couldn't have contacted her even if she had been aware of the ADA's presence. Right on the heels of discovering Finn's son had a half-brother that was a murderer, there was the Gitano case - the aftershocks of which were felt long into 2007.
"What about me?" she had murmured to Elliot, but it wasn't their falling into bed together she thought of - it was bigger than that.
She had already lost the love of her life twice over. Elliot was the only solid, steady thing left - the person she could trust, talk to or fuck easily, in equal measure. He kept Olivia anchored in a life where everything else seemed unmoored. If the threat was for that, too, to be taken away then Olivia would do it herself, and first: self-punishment as self-control.
In Oregon, sneaking around in the Hartnells' house, Liv wondered if Alex'd had as much trouble staying within the lines of her new life, back in Wisconsin. Perhaps Olivia was destined only for a singular life, no matter where else events lead her, because that singular life was right where she landed back in the city in 2007.
Right before she took off to Philadelphia, seeking out the brother that was no more than a DNA fingerprint, Liv had finally picked up the phone to call Alex - hoping, in part, that Alex would try to talk her out of it.
The phone never rang.
Philadelphia was a disaster.
Olivia's brother, a fugitive and maybe a rapist, was gone. She was drinking more frequently again, and rage-fucking her partner at every turn. Elliot's concern got him calling after the aloof blonde next, but she remained unmoved.
Summer began to bleed into Fall. Finn's nephew got away with murder, Liv's brother was innocent after all, and, after taking more than two years to sign his divorce papers, Elliot found himself back home with Kathy.
Not prime parent material.
The phrase went around and around in her head after the meeting with the adoption agency. After Olivia first absorbed the news that Kathy was pregnant, she had moved quickly from surprise, to confusion, to jealousy.
Two and a half years, she had fucked Elliot relentlessly, letting him fill her with abandon, no fear of consequence. Not once had they used so much as a condom, and yet Liv hadn't even had a period late enough to raise questions. One night, and Kathy had caught pregnant like it was a common cold.
Elliot Stabler Junior's birth was as inopportune as his conception. His mother lay in the hazy veil between living and dying, while Olivia clutched his tiny body between her own and a foil blanket. When the dust settled, Liv took stock of things - Alex's not calling, Elliot's readymade family, Simon's drama - and decided that it was time for her to build her own family.
But the dream had been short lived. As the agency had put it, she was not prime parent material.
"Any way you want to do it, I'll support you," Elliot had told her, but what could she say?
How could she tell him that she wished his accidental pregnancy had been hers? She would not invite him back into her bed while he was at home. So she forced herself to smother everything that Eli's birth had stirred in her, and turned back to the work to escape the pressing weight of her loneliness.
Perhaps, she told herself afterward, it had been for the best, as she spent the better part of 2008 struggling with PTSD that nobody knew existed. All through Summer and Fall, Olivia had soaked her sheets again and again with the nightmares that replayed Lowell Harris's face. She suffered the flashbacks, the dissociation, alone into November, when still just her therapy group knew.
That was, until she nearly blew Dominic Pruitt's head off. It was the alarming culmination of nine months that had seemed more full than usual of baby and pregnancy cases.
"I want you to take some personal time off," Cragen told her, and Liv listened - not because of the threat of noting her jacket, but because he was the closest she'd ever known to a father.
The elderly gentleman who met Olivia on the sidewalk in front of his tidy bungalow gave her exactly the look she expected. Grinning, she lowered her sunglasses at him.
"Thank you for meeting with me! She's gorgeous!"
'She' was a pristine black Mustang that sat at the curb looking like a misplaced relic out of a greaser's fantasy.
The owner shook hands with her politely, still eyeing her as though he was being played a fool. "That she is! Took better care of her than my wife these last 20 years." He sniffed and chortled, trailing off as he remembered Liv was also a woman.
But Olivia wasn't listening - already pacing the perimeter of the stationary car, eyes twinkling and her heart pounding, in a good way for once. Careful not to touch anything, she came as close as she dared, eyeing the windshield, the tires, lights, interior. Clean, shiny, perfectly intact - the Mustang was a dream; Liv nearly salivated at the perfection of it.
"You wanna take a look at th'engine?" the man broke into her appraisal.
"Can I?" Liv breathed, excited, and it seemed to settle the old man some.
He popped the hood and allowed her to gaze her fill. Like the rest of the vehicle, the engine was practically spit-shined to gleaming.
"Incredible," Liv praised.
"Mm. Lois says I gotta let'ter go, and accept the fact that I look like a perfect fool driving it nowadays."
"I'm sure that's not true."
"Nawp," he shook his head, rhyming the word with 'top,' "nawp, she's right - I just don't like admittin' it. So, if you like her, she's yours."
Olivia was struck with a sudden pang of guilt. "Are you sure you don't want to leave it to a grandchild instead?"
The man raised a furry eyebrow at the brunette's sudden reluctance. "Got no grandchildren to speak of, so . . . likely not," he shrugged at last.
Liv nodded, understanding better than he might've realized. She didn't have the wife she had thought she would, or a child she had imagined would complete the picture. What she did have was enough cash in her savings to purchase a house in the suburbs outright, and a craving to get away.
"Then I'd love to take care of her," she told him with a smile.
"C'mon inside then, and I'll sign the pinks. Don't mind Lois," he added, "she'll no doubt want to make you eat somethin' . . . " He kept chatting as he headed up the walk, and Olivia could feel her pulse fluttering in anticipatory delight as she followed.
Fifteen minutes later, when Liv touched the convertible for the first time, it felt like grabbing a live wire. She dropped into the driver's seat with the pink slip in one hand, the feel of the leather almost indecently slick.
The man stood grinning at her from the curb, then tossed her the keys in a high arc that Liv caught easily. "Where're you gonna take her?" he asked, and she knew he meant more than just where she lived.
The engine purred to life like a cat rising from a satisfying nap, and Liv slid her sunglasses back into place. "Somewhere nice and warm," she smiled. "What's her name?"
The man blushed like she had just unexpectedly flirted with him. "Oh. Well, uh - " he rubbed the back of his neck shyly, "you should call her whatever you want."
"Forty-four years is a long time to have a name. She deserves to keep it," Liv insisted.
He straightened and pushed back his shoulders. "I used to call her Miz Dolly," he confessed. "After Missus Parton."
Olivia patted the dash. "She'll be in good hands," she told him. "Come on, Dolly." She pulled away from the curb and was on her way, giving the old man one last honk as she headed out of the neighborhood.
All that was on her mind then was open road and places far from Manhattan Winter. She couldn't have known, then, that in just three months Alex would be making another appearance in her life.

This might as well be the fathers talking about Jack fighting god and fighting their feelings. Can't fight both!
#tears tag #fluff tag #hurtcomfort tag
15.11. Coda
When Castiel found out that while hunting for Jack, the Winchesters clashed heads with the Goddess of Luck herself, he was furious.
To know about the dead or alive gamble where they naturally lost made all the butterflies in his stomach burn, if that was the correct expression.
But to realize he could have gotten Jack and lost the Winchesters at the same time? It soured his mood the entire day.
He didn't stop giving Sam and Dean glaring looks that made Sam duck his head while Dean, well, stays Dean.
"You could have lost your lives." he says with gritted teeth and reproachful tone as Dean sits with him in the library because the angel wouldn't stop glaring the whole day and needed to be appeased for Sam's peace of mind.
Dean only smacks his lips on his glass.
Castiel couldn't help glowering at the nonchalance.
"Look, Cas. It doesn't matter, okay? Me and Sam are fine."
"And if you weren't?" Cas says heatedly, "what would have happened if she took your lives, Dean?"
"Then at least you got Jack-"
"Don't give me that." Cas says sternly, deep voice almost growling it made Dean look up. He finds the angel glaring sharply, in commmander mode, "Just don't."
They both glower at each other, Castiel with that lump in his throat while Dean shakes his head and leans on his knees.
"It was a gamble." the hunter says quietly.
"I wouldn't have agreed with you risking your lives on a pool game."
Dean shrugs.
"Yeah, Cas, you would have stabbed her."
"No doubt about that. What was I supposed to expect from you and Sam, going head on against lady luck?"
"You weren't there. There were these people... We couldn't just leave them." he lowers his head. Castiel watches him for a moment before sighing heavily.
"I'm just glad nothing bad happened, Dean."
"You know what she called us? Fortuna? She called us heroes."
A somber mood falls at the pair once the younger members of the group had slipped to their rooms, leaving the best friends by the table, soaking in the comfort of each other's presence. Unti the angel breaks it quietly.
Castiel stares with a small smile forming on his lips towards his friend.
"You are."
Dean scoffs. "Heroes who let kids fight adult battles, Cas? Tell me what you really think."
Castiel is silent for a moment, eyes on the glass of wine he is holding.
"I'm proud of Jack."
Dean rolls his eyes at the angel who gives him a soft look, "I'm proud of you too, Dean. But this is a powerplay of the gods and other beings... My kind. Not yours and Sam's. Maybe it's time for the two of you playing in the front lines and let us do the fighting. You and Sam have done enough battles more than necessary. I think it's up to me and Jack-"
"So it's me and Jack now?" Dean doesn't look at him for a moment. When he did, it's sharp and critical green eyes gazing over the blues. "You gonna bench us because we're humans?"
Castiel leans forward, blue eyes intent on Dean. "Because I care. I will be more at ease if you and Sam are safe."
"You really think that?"
He and Dean shared a long look, and then after a period where Dean just makes a face the same one he used when he asked Castiel if he's letting Jack, Dean falls silent.
And a silent Winchester is never a good thing. Castiel watches as Dean stands up and bids him goodnight.
Sighing, Castiel went to check on Jack, to stay with him as much as he can. He tells himself Dean needed time.
But in the middle of the night, while he and Jack sit talking in the library, the Nephilim suddenly stills, head inclining to the side like he's listening.
"Jack?" Castiel asks, worried.
"Dean." says the Nephilim, brows furrowed. Castiel's pupils dilate. He hangs for Jack's every word. "He's praying."
Castiel mirrors Jack's expression. He doesn't hear anything from Dean so-
"To Who?"
Jack frowns deeper.
"Michael? But I thought he's-"
Castiel bolts up from his chair and races towards the hunter's room, Jack staring after him.
"Dean!"
He doesn't bother knocking. He pulls the door open, takes one look over Dean sitting at the edge of his bed with hands clasped together. Dean startles.
"Cas... "
"What are you doing?" Castiel demands, looming upon Dean.
The hunter opens his mouth when Michael suddenly speaks in his mind, jolting him a little as he stares into space. Before anything could be said, Castiel yanks Dean's collar and roughly pulls him up, cutting the connection.
"The hell, Cas!"
"You're not going to let Michael in again! I won't let you!"
"Oh, so you let Jack do whatever he wants but bench me? Am I the kid here?"
"No! That's not-"
"Dammit, Cas! If a kid can sacrifice himself, so can I, now leave me alone! Michael's agreed he needs to deal with Chuck this time! No turning back! I'm fighting!"
"No, Dean!"
Dean's eyes darken, his voice lowers.
"Cas, don't fucking make me banish you from my room! I'm doing this. I let you and Jack do everything you want now let me do this!"
"No!"
"I don't need your permission!"
"No!"
"What no!?"
"No, Dean! You have to stay!" Cas flings his arms around the hunter, his whole body slamming on Dean's as he pulls him tightly in his arms.
Dean grits his teeth when he feels the pressure, wraps his arms around his angel too. It takes a moment and he realizes the angel is shaking so bad, it drains the hunter's will to argue. He settles his anger aside and drops his face on Cas' shoulder.
"Dammit, Cas... You can't ask me to stay behind. You know I don't do that. I don't stay safe." he whispers, doesn't stop himself from planting his lips on the side of the angel's cheeks whose face is buried on his neck.
Castiel breaths heavily on his collar.
"I need you here, Dean. We... I need someone to go back to, we all do. We need something to look forward to when we think of winning. Winning is not an empty bunker... Winning is not your empty room... Winning is not our empty seats...winning is staying together... I... I need to make sure we win. It means all of you are here..."
Dean pressed his lips close and looks up his open door where Jack and Sam are standing. He flickers his eyes on his brother who sadly looks back at him. To Jack whose worrying his little forehead over them.
Losing his family overnight? Dean can understand.
Dean tightens his grip on Cas who hasn't spoken since. For even Cas to be so... frightened. It's so rare, yet so true and pure. The hunter sighs on the angel's neck again.
"Why d'you think I wanted to help, Cas? It's coz I wanna protect that dream too... I wanna protect you, Sam and Jack. It's not a suicide mission. I'm gonna fight to get back all of you and not lose anyone. Not this time. So you gotta let me. We gotta trust each other."
He sees Sam nod from the corner of his eyes. Sees Sam take Jack and they close the door, leaving Dean with his angel.
After what felt like eternity, Dean pulls from Cas a little and looks down his wet face. It should be illegal to still look so hot even when crying. Cas is just that beautiful.
"Didn't think you were so worried for me." he smiles, wiping away the streak of tears on Cas' cheeks. Looking at his angel fondly.
"You have no idea what you are to me. " Cas murmured, sinking on Dean's arms again. "Don't call Michael. Please, Dean..."
Dean doesn't answer. Cas tightens the embrace and grumbles on Dean's collar bone.
"Clingy bastard." Dean chuckles and slowly steps backwards to his bed. "You gonna cling on me like this forever?"
Cas says something on the line of "bold of you", "assume I'd even let go" with mouth hot on Dean's neck.
"Oh? So you gonna stay with me forever, Cas? You gonna be here after everything? With me? " Dean hits the edge of the bed, but doesn't drop. He has to stop. His question comes out nonchalant, but it rang of his worry
Castiel pulls up and finally stares him in the eyes, erasing any wall that's been between them for long, leaving only trust and openess. Those blue eyes rob Dean off his breath, like always.
"Say it then." Castiel says, voice gravelly, so endearing and appealing. Dean can't imagine falling for anyone else. Not in this life, not in any other next life. Cas will always be his it. He will never ask anyone this. He's never let anyone either, but for Cas-
"Stay."
Cas tackles him down the bed, their bodies tangling, no air or space with their lips locking, their souls tuning.
Stay. That's it. That's their win.

Recap/review 15.03: “The Rupture”
THEN: Ghost/spirits/whatever, blah blah blah. The only thing of note here is that they choose to remind us that Sam is fated to kill Rowena. But I'm sure that doesn't mean anything. There are tons of reasons to include this. Tons.
NOW: We're still in Whatever-this-place-is-called, Kansas. Ghosts/spirits/whatever are still flinging themselves against the barrier. Sam's still in charge of the hunter troops. Expanded Team Free Will is back in the graveyard and they've got a plan that Rowena insists will work. It's a powerful spell that will "patch those holes up" in time for tea. (Rowena is back in a dramatic gown today, but I don't like the casual jacket she's wearing with it.) All she needs is a ghost-free space, which happens to be the mausoleum the gang found in 15.01. No one's thrilled about that. We also see the opening to Hell itself, which is a giant hole in the ground. It doesn't seem to give anyone PTSD, though.
The gang salts the perimeter of the mausoleum while Rowena mixes up her spell, and right away something evil starts banging on the doors. She recites something not-English, her eyes glow purple, and we see the battered barrier glowing purple as well. But then she looks disturbed and the purple glow fades and she gets more and more upset and then collapses. "We're all going to die!" she says.
Title card!
Rowena asks for a drink and then has to clarify that she means "a real drink," and we have a cute wordless conversation where Sam requests Dean's flask, Dean says what, MY flask, Sam says yes, asshole, and Dean says sigh, okay. It's precious.
It is, unfortunately, impossible to screencap, but I'm sure someone will GIF it. In the meanwhile, let's enjoy concerned Winchesters.
Rowena says the spell can't work because the spirits are too wild, too desperate, too angry, and too numerous. No magic on earth can stop "those walls" from falling. Within hours. (Did we really explain the walls? I guess it's the walls between earth and Hell? And why plural?) Dean decides they're going to keep fighting as long as they can. He tells Rowena to make more of those soul collectors, but she says it's pointless. Probably because Sam's wearing the orange jacket, so she doesn't see any reason to prolong the agony. She says she may have been able to shore up the wall if she'd gotten there sooner, but now the wall is too damaged for her to save.
Belphagar leaves, ignoring Dean's "where the Hell are you going!" and Cas goes after him. Dean continues yelling that they're not going to give up, that's not who they are, and Sam silences him with a single hand motion because he knows how I feel about him being Chiefly. Sam crouches next to Rowena and puts a concerned hand on her shoulder and asks if she needs anything because he knows I also love him being soft and concerned.
Who DOESN'T know?
Hey, if you don't want to read some serious Sam fangirling, you're in the wrong place. You should realize this by now.
Belphagar and Cas are out in the cemetery, where no one is bothering them even though something was knocking pretty vigorously on the mausoleum door. Belphagar wanted to look at the giant hole into Hell. "Where it all began."
Meanwhile, Dean's loading up. He's not just going to wait for the world to end, he's going out fighting.
He's angry and backlit, and I love both of those things.
Sam sits next to him and they have a lovely dark conversation where Sam says he's out of ideas but acts like he thinks there still must be something they can do, and Dean says Chuck's "sloppy-ass ghostpocalypse" isn't going to be the last word and acts like he thinks there's nothing they can do but die fighting. And Rowena just sits sad and quiet and alone, paging through the Book of the Damned. I do like that she kept it and uses it in front of the Winchesters. But she says she hasn't found anything useful.
Back outside, Belphagor says the opening in the ground isn't a door or a gate, it's a tear. And he has a plan. "Lilith's Crook" is a horn that Lilith used to control her demons - it can corral all demons and bring them back home. (BTW, nobody reacts to the name Lilith either. It's like seasons three through five never happened.) It's in Lilith's chamber, which is unsealed now that every door in Hell is open. If Belphagor uses it in Hell, all the demons and spirits will be sucked into Hell, and then Rowena can close the door once they're not pushing against it.
Rowena confirms that she has "a spell of my own devising" that she could use to close the door. Well, she said earlier that there were any number of spells she could have tried earlier, so surely this is one of those spells. It's a healing spell - if the opening is a wound, not a door, this will allow it to heal and close up. Sounds reasonable.
It will require perfect timing, and she'll need some strangely easy-to-obtain ingredients (which seems to be a theme this season, doesn't it). And an assistant. "Dibs on Samuel. You're as close to a seasoned witch as we've got in this lot." (!!!)
She also needs someone to hang out at the edge of the hole and toss the figurative "bomb." And it will be dangerous, so Dean naturally decides that's his job. Belphagor drafts Cas to go with him, since he'll need help getting past all the pissed-off demons and ghosts who will be down there. "Yeah, Cas will go," Dean says coldly. "You've been to Hell before." Well, I mean, everyone in this room has been to Hell before (assuming we count Rowena's visit to Limbo as Hell), so. Cas glares at Dean, clearly thinking yes, I harrowed Hell to raise you, and I regret it every day.
Cold and yet HOT.
Hospital. Ketch wakes up just in time to get killed by the demon Ardat, who astutely notes that he's protecting his friends and won't give them up. There's your redemption arc, Arthur Ketch. I hope you enjoyed it. Moving on. (Also, doesn't Ardat look like a cross between Joanna Gaines and Meghan Markle?)
Cemetery. Belphagor asks Cas how he's going to get out of Hell before Rowena seals it up, and makes sure Cas realizes that his buddies don't care that he might not make it out. Cas pushes Belphagor into the hole and jumps in after him.
Mausoleum. A hunter shows up with supplies and Sam gives her directions on what to do "if this goes sideways," even though those directions should probably be "kiss your ass goodbye." Dean gets a text from "Ketch" and responds by laying out their plan and providing their location. Uh oh.
Hell. It's actually mostly empty. Belphagor claims he made Cas come because he just wanted company, and he wants to become best buds with Cas, having wormed his way into the Winchester's hearts. "Sam and Dean are just using you," Cas says. "Don't mistake that for caring about you, because I can assure you, they don't." OH, CAS, YOU WOULD KNOW, WOULDN'T YOU. Cas reminds Belphagor that he's an abomination, and then opens the door to Lilith's chamber, which is being looted by another demon. Belphagor's friendly with the guy, but Cas kills him. Awkward.
The crook is in a box marked up with Enochian symbols, which apparently couldn't be read by any residents of Hell other than Lilith. (Well, we can assume the residents of the cage could read it, but.) Good thing Cas is here! So convenient. The markings are actually a song of praise to Lucifer. Cas reads it, but nothing happens, and Belphagor says "They're verses, Cas. I think they need to be sung." We don't have to listen to Cas sing the whole thing, but we do get Belphagor mocking his angelic voice.
The demon then tells Cas to make his escape, which kind of surprises me - I was sure this set-up wasn't meant to end with Cas surviving. Cas tentatively holds the horn out to Belphagor, but then is flung across the room by none other than Ardat. She expositions for us that Lilith's Crook would have allowed Belphagor to rule Hell. She begins to smack Belphagor down, but Cas attacks, and holds her off long enough for Belphagor to stab her with his angel blade.
Cas asks him if it's true he wants to rule Hell, and he's all, no, I want to rule EVERYTHING. He'll suck the power of all of the souls into him, and he'll become a God. "I don't think so," says Cas, and runs toward him. But Belphagor blows the horn, and the ghosts/spirits/whatevers start flowing back into Hell, and into Belphagor.
Cemetery. Dean approaches the hole and wonders where Ketch is.
Mausoleum. Sam is anxious, and wants to be outside, fighting. Rowena makes him read the book as she prepares the spell. (What is he reading? He's not reading aloud. What's the point? Is he memorizing it?) When they hear Belphagor blow the horn, Rowena announces "it's time." She and Sam hold hands (d'aw) and recite the spell. I guess he was memorizing it after all. The spell bowl begins to glow purple, as does the "bomb" I didn't even realize Dean was holding. Dean tosses it into the hole without even wondering if Cas will make it out. So I guess he's still mad at Cas, if you were wondering.
Hell. Cas finally makes his way to Belphagor and tackles him, stopping the horn. As Cas punches the demon, his sunglasses fall off, and he looks up at Cas with his burned-out eyes and pleads for him to stop. "It's me, Jack." Gotta say, Alex does a good job here of playing someone trying to sound like Jack and not quite succeeding. I was afraid Cas would fall for it, but he doesn't. In fact, this inspires him to do the glowy hand thing and burn Belphagor - and Jack's corpse - to a crisp. Too bad you didn't wait until he sucked up all the souls, Cas.
Topside. Sam calls Dean and learns that something doesn't feel right, and the crack is closing up. Meanwhile, Rowena picks up a knife and plunges it into her own shoulder. As Sam watches in horror, she reaches in and pulls out "my last resurrection sachet - won't need that where I'm going." She tells him the Lilith's Crook plan may have been his only shot, but she still has an option. Because magic can contain anything. Even Hell, as long as she's willing to pay the price.
Horrified/confused Sam. Mmmmm.
She tells him "death is an infinite vessel" but he doesn't get it yet. All she needs for this spell are two ingredients. Sam's all, you have them here? Why didn't you tell us? "Because, dear, the first ingredient is my own still-coursing blood, and the last is my final breath." She'll absorb all the spirits and then throw herself Hell (!!!) and then, when her body eventually rots and the spirits are released, they'll be back in Hell. (So I guess she has to toss the wound-healing spell in there too, somehow, but that's just details.) Sam tries to stop her with the Single Upraised Finger of Reason, but not only does she ignore that finger, she tells Sam he has to be the one to kill her. Y'all, I always love the Single Upraised Finger of Reason.
I would obey this finger.
Topside. Cas made it out of the Hell. Wow, I was worried there for a minute.
Mausoleum. Rowena insists Sam has to be the one to kill her, because the spell requires her "real, permanent demise," and Sam's the only one who can do that. It's in the books. "You know what?" says Sam "Screw the books." YES SAM.
Topside. Cas tells Dean he killed Belphagor and the crook was destroyed.
Mausoleum. Sam tries to take the knife from Rowena, but she holds it against her body. "I don't care about anything enough to take my own life. Not you, your brother, not even the world. But I believe in prophecy, I believe in magic, and everything we need to end this is right in our hands." I don't know, Rowena. Those books you're so insistent on believing? They've been known to change. Sam rests the knife against her but he's still fighting it, even though she's shouting "kill me, Samuel!"
Then she clamps a hand on his shoulder and says "I know we've gotten quite fond of each other, haven't we? But will you let the world die? Let your brother die? Just so I can live?" Oh, well, that was the right thing to say, wasn't it? (Also, can we just appreciate Rowena admitting she's quite fond of Sam?)
Topside: Dean yells at Cas. "This was our only shot! What the hell were you thinking?" I like that Dean doesn't even consider that Cas may have had a very good reason for killing a demon.
Mausoleum. Sam says a shaky little "no" and I think he's saying no, I'm not going to kill you but I am so wrong, because he goes in for what looks like a hug but he's actually plunging the knife into her abdomen. He holds her close as he stabs her and then pulls back to look in horror at what he's done. Rowena PUTS HER HAND ON HIS FACE AND SAYS "THAT'S MY BOY" AND SHE'S NOT DEAD YET BUT I AM. Then she pushes the blade in further, because apparently Sam didn't do it hard enough, which brings up an interesting question - what if Sam's stab wasn't fatal? Does any of this still count?
SAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!!!!
Topside. As Rowena walks to the Hell hole, all of the spirits are seen flowing into her wound. I want Sam to hug her again, without a knife (OMG IMAGINE IF SAM HAD TO ACTUALLY PUSH HER INTO THE HOLE) but instead they hang back. She turns and says "goodbye boys," just like her son did, stands at the edge, and then dramatically falls into the hole just before it closes. Sad MacLeod music! (which I rather like)
Goodbye, boys.
Aftermath! Sam's sitting sadly on his bed. Dean comes in wearing a single layer, and it's a henley, and Sam's entire shirt is unbuttoned, so thank you baby Jesus for this bit of comfort we surely need after all that hurt. He asks how Sam is holding up, and Sam doesn't answer that question. He just wipes his eyes and makes a how do you think noise and asks if there's any word from Stevie, who I guess is one of the other hunters. Yeah, and the word is that the town is good, but Ketch is dead. "Bad. Probably demon."
We did it though, man. It's over. God threw one last apocalypse at us, and we beat it.
...
Yep.
What you did. Rowena. You didn't have a choice.
...
I know.
Oh, Sam! His soft sad little "yep," his reaction to Ketch, the way his little face scrunches up when Dean says Rowena's name... And Dean's trying to hard to be supportive.
Oh boys.
Aftermath part 2. Dean's drinking whiskey when Cas comes in and asks how Sam is. Dean's very short with him, and asks why he didn't just follow the plan. Because sure, Belphagor was going to suck up all the power of every soul in Hell and become the worst Big Bad ever, but Dean thinks they just would have figured that out afterward. And Dean has a point, but I don't know if it's the one he thinks he has. Cas didn't know Rowena had a self-sacrificial Plan B in mind. The only information he had was that if Belphegor didn't trap all the spirits in Hell, they'd end up destroying the world. And he killed Belphegor anyway. So yeah, Dean's mad because Rowena is dead, but the issue IMHO isn't that Cas's actions forced Rowena to take extreme measures, it's that they would have destroyed the world had she not been able to do that.
The plan changed, Dean. Something went wrong. You know this. Something always goes wrong.
Yeah, why does that something always seem to be you?
You used to trust me, give me the benefit of the doubt. Now you can barely look at me. My powers are failing and I've tried to talk to you over and over and you just don't want to hear it. You don't care. I'm dead to you. You still blame me for Mary. I don't think there's anything left to say.
Where you going?
Jack's dead. Chuck's gone. You and Sam have each other. I think it's time for me to move on.
Sad Winchester music!
Oh. Wow. That was really cold, Dean. Now you're not trying to be supportive at all.
But we get your angry face, which I adore.
So! There's a lot packed into this episode, isn't there? So many deaths. I was surprised that both Belphegor and Ardat bit it, since I presumed one or both of them would be Big Bads this year. Are we down to just Chuck, then? There's also whatever Billie is cooking up with dead Jack; I guess that could be badness. Ketch is gone, which I'm honestly fine with. The only bad thing about Cas walking out is that it means we're going to have a separate Cas plot again, which I'm not thrilled about. And Rowena. I mean, I love her and will miss her, but I should be gutted, and I'm not. Is it because I know we're saying goodbye to all of them soon anyway? Is it because I've decided this is going to happen? Maybe.
But that's so many deaths for one episode. Is this the endgame? Just killing every supporting character we can think of?
And let me just point out that if any of this plot feels familiar - Rowena recognizes Sam as a witch and has him do a spell, secretly comes up with a world-saving spell that requires her death, and forces Sam to fulfill his prophecy by stabbing her, no matter how hard he protests - if any of this feels the slightest bit familiar, could it be because I ALREADY WROTE IT? Maybe.
(Waves to Robert Berens, who surely reads my LJ.)
Anyway. Please help me stay unspoiled, thanks!
