Fuck Ric Grayson arc but I think during/post recovery he and Bea would have a very specific routine for his bad days that’d keep him tethered to where, when, and who he is atm.

For example, If Dick wakes up and he feels woozy or foggy, Bea picks out a different kinda coffee (one they didn’t drink while he was Ric), talks Abt the weather and current events, puts on movies or shows that came out post Ric, etc.

I can't tell you how excited I am about this - I have a WIP waiting to be edited about an underground debating club around the time of the 1975 "Gagging Acts" which was inspired by the likes of the London Corresponding Society. I had a whole argument with myself about the extent to which I could mention the United Irishmen, because it required a massive amount of Context that went beyond the scope of the novel, and in the end had to settle for only a couple of passing references.

It was one of those "please can someone else write that book for me" moments, so to be enjoying Master and Commander anyway then to hit this as a bonus?? It's basically Christmas

I think what annoys me over Mae Borowski being hated by her issues is the theory of conformity. Mae is a mess and does bad things but ahe mostly does then because she doesn't know better it reads waaay more like a neurodivergent person trying to figure out interpersonal relationships than as someone who just don't care and to hear people summ it up to her being an inconsidered and selfish asshole even tho she is show to care and try her best sucks.

Not only that but it also has the bias of how she has no value cause she is unprodutive. They talk about how she could just find a job even tho she admits herself she would probably not be mentally equiped to hold it and in a lot of moments everyone talks about how the job market is fucked. They say she should never had quitted college without knowing the full story. They blame her for not being equiped to say the full story.

And they even ignore state facts like her very clear political ideologies to portray her as a dumb asshole. She has flaws but she is called out and she is trying. People can't be good and happy over capitalism. It screws their mental health up and in a small city where you have to pay a lot for therapy from an unqualofield general particioner is worse! Mae is fucked up because Possum Springs is fucked up it's the whole freaking point.

And it sounds so damm against everything the game says to just say she should get a job and stop talking to people or to imply everyone secretly hates her. Like god dammit. She has to be better but please just stop.

thinking about how immigrants have to find families. there’s no alternative when your relatives are in another country. aunties that cook delicious meals and treat you as their own. uncles who acknowledge your presence in their house as if you’ve always lived there. friends that feel like siblings and dogs that recognize your scent. holding hands in an uncaring land, building hearth from strangers’ warmth. by extension, the faces of family at home (what is home?) grow blurrier each day, and you can barely speak their language.

Seriously, don't think about avatrice in Tomb Raider. It wouldn't really work, because so much of TR is about isolation from the rest of the world, a loner fending for herself, far away from the safety of modern society.

How would you even do that with two characters without relegating one to the background? Like, what, are they both going to be out there in the wilderness with opposing agendas or something? Clashing styles of operating AND ideologies?

I wouldn't think about it too much if I were you.

T'Pel gets a pet while Tuvok's in the delta quadrant to help deal with his loss and after he gets back there's a mutual big show of not liking one another but after like a month she's his little buddy.

strike plot in ysb really highlights the beginning of alvaro's crazy. like, yes some things are diego's fault bc he's constantly trying to sabotage him but also the way alvaro goes about handling these situations is his own doing.

the strike was avoidable, he just needed to put his employees first over his obsession with conquering the latam market. he loses sight and control of the situation as soon he loses bea's unwavering support. and everything that happens after is in angry retaliation towards her or about her.

alvaro sees her joining the strike as a personal attack against him when in reality bea is, with great difficulty, doing what she believes is the right thing to do. before this, she'd been on alvaro's side and helped him negotiate deals and supported him in his goals. his dream of expansion was also hers. but tamarindo demanding they fire 40 ppl pushes bea to see what alvaro won't admit---that this deal is not really in their best interest.

as soon bea thinks and acts on things opposite of his wants and needs, he becomes angry. even when she tries to find solutions or evidence of diego tampering against them, it's not enough to get back into his good graces. he can't forgive her for what he sees as a 'betrayal' and 'abandonment'. despite the professional setting, with bea he takes everything personally.

on one side, tamarindo deal and the strike shows the flaws of business expansions and how these corporations see people as numbers to be cut in order to see how well the other party takes orders. on the other, it shows how much alvaro depends on bea and his refusal to admit that. for bea, it's the beginning of her long-term arc on becoming a strong willed person willing to stand up for herself and those around her.
