RWBY fans seriously need to unpack their internalised biphobia and why they are so insistent on erasing Yang and Weiss’ CANON attraction to men.
“Yang was just joking!” “She only did it because of comphet!”
Cool. Homophobia doesn’t exist in Remnant though, as confirmed by Kdin Jenzen. Yang has no need to hide her attraction to women, especially in front of her own sister. What makes this claim of comphet even stranger, is that the following scene is literally Blake and Yang’s first meeting - a scene that a lot of Lesbian Yang truthers consider to be rather flirtatious and the beginning of a blooming relationship. What reason would Yang have to hide her attraction to women in one scene but then SO openly flirt with and compliment a woman in the next? It makes no sense.  Weiss on the other hand, is a whole other can of worms. Weiss has exclusively shown attraction to men. She actively chased after Neptune during Volume 2. It was made pretty damn clear that she liked him. And now most recently, Weiss has shown attraction to a rugged and more ‘mature’ Jaune. Regardless of your feelings of the scene itself, it is yet again another example of Weiss liking men. Weiss likes men. End of story. Which! Isn’t! A! Bad! Thing! Shocker but bisexual people exist. You can still have Whiterose or Bumbleby or any other WLW relationship without erasing the girls’ attraction to men. An attraction to men doesn’t take away ANYTHING from Yang’s status as a queer woman. And the same would go for Weiss, were she ever confirmed to like women as well.  Y’all would be absolutely spewing if the scenarios were switched wherein Yang makes an offhand comment about an attractive group of women ‘as a joke’, only to end up with a man and be championed as a straight woman by fans. If that scenario I put in your head just now made you furious. Then good. That was the point.  But where is that same righteous fury when a queer woman’s attraction of men is far too often erased in favour of making her a lesbian.  Explain very carefully WHY you think that is okay.

Alright, so I just made a Wenclair post but imma make another one right now because oh my LORD I just saw the fandom breaking reviews, so sit down and grab a snack because it’s rambling time.
I see that many of you are discouraged from the prospect of Wenclair not being canon, this is understandable as I myself am really invested in these two. Hopefully this goes without saying, but NO ONE should hate on the show, the actors, etc etc. I refuse to let such toxicity run through this fandom. Like, this is just reviews for the first season. Please, I really, really don’t want a repeat of the Voltron fandom and cries of queerbaiting (and I wasn’t even remotely near being part of the Voltron fandom! It just got THAT bad that even I knew of its notorious reputation). Again, the show isn’t even out yet. Who’s to say Hunter going fighting for Wenclair’ didn’t mean the course of their relationship in future seasons? We only have information on a first season that isn’t even out yet, so please, calm down on any hate and queerbaiting accusations.
That being said- y’all telling me you’re not buckled down for a slow burn? Wednesday is a character who needs a LOT of time and effort to build trust with on a romantic relationship level, so getting Wenclair all in one season would have been cool or whatever, but it also would’ve been pretty OOC since season one has confirmed only 8 episodes. On the flipside, the payoff of Wenclair’s growing friendship, that blooming trust, the eventual deep bond between them that not even Wednesday herself can deny? Is that not peak sapphic experience? Frenemies to begrudging allies to ‘I find your existence… not the worst’ ‘ppfft, thanks, Addams’ to friends to friends who would murder fer each other to ‘you are the sun that burns and enchants me, I hope this drought lasts a lifetime’. LIKE C’MON??? THE FLAVOR?? Don’t give up on Wenclair just yet y’all. (That being said, the line about droughts should be in a fanfic so imma mark that down fer later.)
And like, I think this next point is the most important thing to note. We all acknowledged our love for Wenclair as a delusion, ever since the beginning we knew we were pulling crumbs and making silly little headcanons. Yes, I would love if Wenclair became canon. Would I stop shipping it if it never does, though? Let’s see, I am a veteran Whiterose shipper of several years. Those two barely had a conversation in the entirety of Volume 8 and I am STILL willing to die on this hill fer them. I am a Lightcannon enjoyer despite the next to NOTHING crumbs in the entirety of their respective existences. Oh, you would not believe how many rarepairs I hold dear in the Pokémon world. The list goes on and on and on. Canon is cool and all but I hoard my random ships like a dragon of ye olde. Just look at what we, the OG Wenclair Warriors, made with just a few trailers and interviews and random instagram comments. The lovely art, the heart wrenching fanfics, the god tier headcanons. I dunno bout yall, but I’m not ready to give that all up just because canon said ‘mmmm no’. If no one got me, ao3 got me.
Trust me, I am well-aware the importance of good representation and I’m not saying you can’t be disappointed over this. What I am saying, however, is that you shouldn’t always let canon 100% dictate how you’re going to consume and enjoy a piece of media. So what if Wenclair isn’t canon? Their dynamic is AMAZING and nothing can take that away from me. There’s still potential and writing room for future seasons, and to that I say buckle down homies, we in it fer a long time and a good time.

Wondertober 2024 - day 29: king if the party
Ocs: to many than I want to name
So close but I almost made it
Heartslabyul
Mauz took his cup and took a sip, it was the last unbrithday party of the year, and next year he'll be a second year, and it would also be the last year the current housewarden would in charge so, she was going to announce who will be taking over for the role.
Setting the cup down he glanced around it needed to be a bit sweeter so either he was going to need a cake to make up for it or he needed to get something to sweeten it. As he moved to grab a hold of some honey cookie the sound of the housewarden drawing everyone attention made him pause and turn to the far end of the table where the throne like chair was at, taking the cookie he sat it on his plate but didn't eat as he listened.
"Greating everyone, as we all know this is the last unbrithday party of the year, but it is also a celebration for today is not just a unbrithday party, for it is also the day that I, Cora Whiterose will choose my successor!" She paused for a moment as she waited for the whispers to die down before continuing.
"Now I have thought long and hard and talked with my vice warden as well as several other thrid years about this very important discussion and have all agreed for the perfect choice out of the several candidates who looked promising." The upperclassmen stood up and removed her crown. Which caused many people to whisper among themselves.
And even mauz wonder who could be the person since he could guess who was on that list but even he truly didn't know who could be picked. What was even more surprising was when the housewarden seemed to be walking down the table seeming to know where she was going.
"I hope that you understand while it saddens me to leave this role, but next year I will be much to busy with my internship to be able to run this poroud dorm that has been under the rule of in my opinion the best of the sevens queen of hearts." Her tone was a bit smug
And while knew such a statement could have caused issues outside of the dorm, he knew a lot of people had a pertcaler liking to one of the seven and always thought them better than the others, personally he always wonder how it would be if all of them were actually been in a room, would they be able to get along and help spread the good they held or would it be like how their own school tends to act.
Mauz watched as the housewarden continued to give her speech before she started to get closer to where he sat and his mind quickly tried recall who was on this side of the table who could be on the list of next in line.
But when housewarden cora disappeared behind him and he had to turn in his seat to full see he noted she had stop moving and he realized who it was.
"Housewarden may I get up? After all I feel it would be more polite to kneel before you." It is over the top yes, but given their housewarden it would be up her ally. And he was confirmed correct when she laughed and step a bit away.
"But of courses, you are making it very clear i have chosen the correct person for this task indeed."
Glad he was correct he moved out of his chair and kneeled at the current housewarden's feet and he waited.
"Now all who are here, again I Cora Whiterose, have dub Mauz Bell the next Heartslabyul housewarden! And for the next three months he shall slowly take over my role and by the start of the next school year will be your housewarden!!!"
Mauz tried to keep the frown off his face since it meant he couldn't go home to see his grandparents or hand out with his non magical friends, but this was a rather important role, just wish he had been notified before hand. But than again a month before school ends for the year is enough to at least get his ducks in a role.
When he felt the crown placed on his head, mauz looked up to his housewarden. "I thank you so much for the opportunity and I hope to prove everyone most important you correct with your faith in me."
Mauz knew complamenting the housewarden would be good as she petted him like a small child. "Thats good to hear, now raise yoi hear high for you are the king of this part and the next ruler of Heartslabyul!"
Nodding he did as told and stood up. "Again I thank you, and I bring glory to our dorm and the queen of hearts name."
Savanaclaw
Rama felt the adrenaline still running though his veins, and maybe a mix of the foreign magic seeming to calm down under his skin. Not that anyone around him knew that.
What he didn't realize was the pure anger those in his dorm would have at him beating the now previous housewarden, honestly he was starting to worry that this had been a mistake and not even the headmage was able to calm the rest of his dorm down.
And when Rama tried to get them in order they threw insults at him and refused to believe he was in charge. Honestly he wasn't sure how he would be able to handle this. At least intill a loud roar that knocked down everyone near by and made everyone including himself have to shield his ears to try and muffle the sound.
And once it died down he hadnt expected or maybe he should have as imani walked out from wherever she had been hiding at, and reached the now previous housewarden her hand carefully grabing hold of the stuff he had been clenching so hard too.
"We both know you lost, clinging to something you no longer own, will just bring shame to yourself, and as a citizen of sunset savnna, you should understand that your actions will bring about shame and disappointment to all who see your actions."
"Princess, i-" the previous housewarden was cut off by imani using her heard to gently ruffle his hair.
"Not here, I know you keep asking for me to take the role since I got here but due me the favor and follow the rules you've lost ans thus you must hand over the reins to the one who beat you, but worry not you're not the only one who made a bet and lost, so maybe I'll ask for advice when I need it." Imani smiled kindly at the male who blinked and came to realize what was said before nodding and let go of the staff for imani to take.
Once she held the staff she turn to the crowed of her fellow students who hadn't rose their voice over whispers and murmurs. And with a deep breath she projected her voice loud enough for all to hear (helps that her signature spell let's her do so)
"We are savanaclaw! The dorm that is under the king of beast name! Do you think your actions would be looked apon fondly? Rama howl first year has defeat our housewarden in a housewarden duel! Meaning that Rama howl is the new savanaclaw leader! And we would be fools to spit in the face of said rules and insult the king of beast! After all you think the other dorms will not find out about this?"
The crowds seemed to hesitate and after a bit imani continued. "You think the other dorms will let what we did slid? No! We will hear it from everyone and than they would speak about it online and so forth! If we wish to keep order of the dorm and not insult the king of beast with our own foolish pride than we should follow the tirdetions and let things go as they should." Imani held up the staff. "Rama howl is our housewarden! Let us celebrate not a lost but the passing of the torch! So long live the king! Long live the king! Long live the king"
The crowed had begun repeating after imani part way though the second repeat but once she stop they continued to do so as she stop getting the crowed on her side before turning back to walk over to Rama and holding out the staf in her hands. Once Rama took the from her he watched as imani went back to the crowed and introduced herself as his vice warden and that the two of them will make sure that the years under their charge will be ones to remember.
Octavinelle
Mona hummed as she cut into her meal, the party was rather simple. Everyone had been gathered thr house warden gave a speech and than everyone was told she would be the housewarden as a first year and what not.
And to act as an inmation of sorts she turn to her true form grabing hold of diffrent glasses and telling everyone she hopes they all can enjoy the time under her care, and to act as a more scar tactic ulrik slam hard into the glass behind them at full speed causing the glass to crack and rather badly showing everyone his full size in his true form the twins also appeared from the sides standing at full height as a human the chuckled and when it looked like someone was going to go against her the people saw just how bad her boys can get.
Chuckling Mona return to her human form and with a final slam water begin rushing in screams filled the room as everyone begin to panic but with a wave of her hand the water stop pouring in (she wouldn't admit but it was straining on her and the twins and ulrik were also helping but being sudele about it so it would appear she was doing it alone. Ulrik how had came in as a mer let everyone see him turn into his human form before walking over to Mona.
Mona smiled and with a wave of her hand the glass was fixed and the only evidence that something happened was the standing water in the room. "So I do hope you all understand, that I'm a kind soul, but it would be best not to cross me, for even the benevolent nature of the sea witch must have had her limits, so I would rather you all not test mine."
Looking around the room knowing they would behave at least for a bit she had hoped she than with out worry sat down in a chair that hadn't been there before and Clemens bought forth food for her to eat and dani got her a glass of something bubblely (a glass of white sparkling grape juice) which leads her to now a simple party where she was eatting her food and thus the new housewarden, and if she had to say anything she did put on a good show.
Scarabia
Chaim was napping in the pool after swimming for some time, or rather he was napping in the float that for him was on the small side, though he also knew for those who didn't have the wealth he had it would be extremely large. Given that his floaty was big enough for him to sleep in and fix another dozen or so people in it not that he had enough people to fill it... ok he did but their will be complications trying to mend his two worlds and honestly he didn't trust a good lot of them so yeah complications.
Though as he was lightly snoozing he heard his phone go off and moved to stand up and grab his phone from one of the pockets and answer noting it was his mother.
"Mom? Is everything ok?" He felt him self worry as he heard sounds in the background.
"/everything is fine, though I am going to need you to cancel any plans you have tonight as well as tomorrow. And do get out of the pool and get dress because we have much work to do." His mother's voice was rushed as he could tell something was happening.
"Alright, ill be there as soon as I can." Hanging up chaim went to the entrance to his floaty and dived into the pool so he could make his way back to the edge of the pool as he could before jumping out and grabing a towel he dry himself off and rather than run though the house made his way up the walls and into his room where Irfan who had been sleeping seem to wake up.
Runing to the bathroom he took a quick shower dried and dressed before racing to his mother's room only to be forced to stop by a large crowed of people running about, glancing around he was about to jump on the railing only to be stop by a hand on his shoulder. Confused he turn around and noticed a familiar face. "Rotem?"
"I figured you would come this way, but your mother told me to tell you to head tomthe dinner hall since master kailim is throwing a party." Rotem sighed deeply
Which let chaim know a few things since parties weren't new and normally his mother allowed him to ditch them unless they were important and given he was needed in the dinner hall meant he was the main star and honestly he didn't like that, none the less he nodded and went to said room.
The party seemed to already be starting as people were coming in and everything was also still being set up signs that this was unpormted and his father was laughing and seeming to be celebrating while his mother was showing her in public face. And he quickly made his way over to her ingoring his father's antics to sit by his mother who once closer she let the mask slip to lightly show she was here for him before it returned.
So chaim found himself sitting for a few moments before his mother clear her throat. "My dear husband." Those words like always seems to be like some trigger word that always made his father freeze and turn to his mother giving her his full attention.
"You have yet to address the guest of honor, nor inform him of why this party is being held, since you have asked me not to say anything I have not, but in which case you should inform him of the news you wish to tell him." His mother tone was one of business and he knew it had to be serious.
Honestly he didn't want to admit it but he was hopeful his dad would want to spend time with him, though he doubt that would be what the case it is.
His dad seemed to nod at his mothers words and pulled something from his pocket. "Guess what! You got an invite!" His father held out the letter and chiam frowned as he moved to take siad later and looked it over trying to figure out what could be inside it with out opening it though from his side eye he noticed his mother holding put a letter opener and he took a moment to take the opener and cute the letter open.
Returning the opener to his mother, chiam than pulled the paper out and read it. He blinked and than open another paper out. And read that, he glanced over to his father who seemed to be waiting for him to responded.
Glancing to his mother who reached over to gently pat his shoulder, and his stomch knoted and looking to where he knew his retainer was the elder teen reached into his own coat pocket and gave him a letter that hadn't finished been written and again the knot grew worse. And he nodded and handed back the letter.
his thorat felt tight, and looked at his mother again. Thinking back on the fact that people were running around in his mother's area meant she was making plans and that meant things were happening. And yet He wanted to run and yet he knew given the setting he couldn't so he have a weak nod. "I... I will accept the invite."
His father seemed happy and begin running about celebrating that he would not only be going to night raven collage but be housewarden. Everyone else seem to be happy and running about and he could feel his mother's hand on his arm and he turn before getting a soft hug from her. And chaim found himself hugging her back wanting to cry, not in joy but in sorrow because he did not want to leave his home, because it felt like he was being thrown away, as foolish and dumb as that might be and what would happen to his mother here all alone? The thought made him want to cry.
"Chaim, my sweet child, all will be alright, go make friends and live a bit more like a child and not as a person with responsibility, I will be alirght though don't be to lose you are still going to a somewhat in charge, but a lot less than you normal deal with." The worse were soft and no one would have heard it but him but the words confused him a bit but his thoughts were intrupted by his father coming near and he realized that his father smelt a bit of booze and wrap an arm around him stated he will be like the sulten and chaim felt himself drag around again wishing this party would end, because this is a king title he didn't want.
Pomefiore
Henry was hearing noises he could tell he was at some sort of dinner party he can't quiet remember anything he jadnt been allowed to get his phone for sometime and the voices were speaking and the fog was loud but he kept walking.
Someone was speaking to him and he nodded and followed them before talking with them, he can't remember he never does though. He blinked and again what was going on changed. The voices continued to whisper about joining them and he ingored them and he walked and found himself looking at boxes walking over he sense something abouts the boxes. And open one.
Though opening it the hazy cleared a tad bit. This was his stuff his, and it was not so much his stuff had magic to clear the haze but when ever he was reminded of his beloved it seemed that the fog that try to drag him into its depths seemed to leave him if only for short moment.
He could hear the person asking if all his stuff was there and Henry turn to the person and while he didn't know who they were he inform them he would need to look though everything and thanked him. The other said that they would have a party for him later tonight to celebrate him becoming their new housewarden. The guy seemed to want to say something for a bit before holding pit a paper and asking for his signature.
Sighing Henry nodded and moved to sign the paper and than waited for him to leave and took a moment to close the door and turn to take a picture of the room he would need to make a somewhat better copy but first and most important he was going to speak to his beloved while unpacking his stuff. Seems he became a king with out his queen
Ignihyde
Meri was happy eatting her food her hair was currently in an updo her mother has decided to put it in and her dad's hair was currently in some braid she had done on him, since they had a chain of doing hair ealier. Thanks to puppy dog eyes from both her and her mother.
And honestly everything for meri was perfect, though as she ate she heard a phone go off and from he ring tone she knew it was her father's and looked to her mother who pulled the phone out (she took ahold of all phones during dinner time) and checked it before answering it.
Meri watched as her mom listened and hummed before nodding though she decided to speak. "Is it the same as the others? ....... fine, Bring it here, and do remember to knock, I will be upset if I wake up in the morning and it hasn't arrived or its on the floor" and with that she hung up.
"Pavlina? Can I ha-" her father shut his mouth when her mom looked at him and looked at his food.
Meri giggled knowing her dad just got scolded. "So whats being bought here?"
Her looked over to her and sighed deeply. "Its a leter from night raven collage."
Both firey blue hair members of the family blinked. Her father was the first to speak. "Its not some extroverted thing like a reunion?"
"No, your reunion letters look diffrent so what it is most likely an invitation letter given that night raven become co-ed quite a bit ago, their is only one reason for an it to be here." Meri blinked as her mother looked at her.
A moment of confusion before it clicked. "Nope! I'm not going! I want to stay in my room and what of my babies here?"
"Yeah! Meri shouldn't leave! Those people would try and hurt her, she's safer here." Her father was quick to respond after her though he frowned. "Wait when did night raven become co-ed?"
"Well since I'm the one who reads your physical mail, I've been getting newsletters letters about the school, and also since I know you didn't want to go to school reunions I've been telling them no, but my guess is they want meri to go this year since she will be of age to join."
"But its not like I'm going." Meri didn't want to go.
"Oh no, you're going. After all you need to make more friends, like real friends in the physical plain and not online."
"But mo~m i don't wanna~" meri groaned really not liking the idea of going to deal with people."
"No buts! Trust me its good to see other people i mean you might have fun, plus that school has been known to be high in blot so you could do some studying on it."
Idia slammed the table. "And that's the perfect reason, for not to go! Its to dangerous! She could get hurt!"
Pavlina sighed. "Dear, clam down. We will keep an eye on her as best as we can but let me ask you do you think with out the experience you gain at night raven you would have gone to the conversation where we meet?"
Meri waited for her dad to say something but he sighed and mumbled as he poked at his food.
"Correct, I just want to make sure meri gets to meet people around her own age even for a little bit so she can grow as a person, or do you want her to marry someone your age and or older?"
Both meri and idia made a face at such an outrageous claim.
"See a gross thought, so our daughter will go to night raven and interact with people her own age for a short while and maybe she find something to do besides hang out here and race the charet around the bubble."
The table went quiet for a while before meri decided to ask something. "Hey dad?"
Idia looked up from his food. "Yeah?"
"How much do you think it will cost to be made a housewarden?"
Idia open his mouth to respond only to be quickly cut off by Pavlina. "You are not paying for that!"
"But isn't that the only way to have my own room?"
Pavlina groaned and so begin the argument of why meri can't do that but much to Pavlina best effort her husband and daughter will in fact spend money to make her housewarden.
Diasomnia
Brigitte felt a bit awkward as her friends popped some hand poppers and their was a cake given to her by the first year she helped.
"Congratulations on joining the housewarden warden club!" Now the three founders of the blastcycle are all housewardens!" Meri patted her on her shoulder. It had only been a month into their second year and she some how ended up doing a housewarden battle when the previous housewarden had gone after a girl from another dorm and she stepped in and welp now she was in charge of her dorm.
While still awkward, she couldn't help but feel a bit happy to at least be on the same standing as her friends and hey maybe now that she was a housewarden,.maybe her and rotem can talk more since he was a vise warden. Or so she hoped no mater what she can only be hopeful.

April 6: Mr. Robot 4x04
Watched another ep of Mr. Robot today! It was the only thing I accomplished outside of the work day (not bitter about that AT ALL lol) but I did it.
This episode was SO atmospheric. Like, not that the other episodes aren’t, but that was my primary impression of it as a whole. Elliot, Mr. Robot, and Tyrell wandering around in the woods through the snow, and on the side of the highway, in the moonlight, with howling animals in the distance... Very desolate and beautiful. I was into it.
I’m not a Tyrell fan but having him as an Elliot minion is probably his best use imo. And I actually appreciated his incredibly Dramatic nature today. Like to the point that I kind of wanted him and Elliot to be friends? Even though prior to this I never thought their relationship was objectively anything special outside of Tyrell’s head. Like he obviously has a crush on Elliot (or possibly Mr. Robot) but that never seemed requited on any level--not just in the sense that Elliot is straight, in the sense that he didn’t seem to enjoy Tyrell’s company at all and didn’t really seem to... get Tyrell. (Or maybe I’m projecting lol.) Anyway, I’m vaguely aware that there was a subset of fans who thought their relationship, however defined, was Very Important and I occasionally wondered if Tyrell and Elliot scenes were specifically catering to them, at least a little bit. I felt similarly about some of the dialogue in this ep, but also vindicated by it, because it basically confirmed my reading. But it also made me sad about it! Like it’s true Tyrell really does honestly like Elliot. Maybe they could have worked something out, friendship wise.
That said... not exactly sad to see Tyrell go. He’d basically reached the end of his story line, he got a great final episode and some significant scenes with Elliot, kinda concluding their own personal story, and he got to walk off into the snowy, wintry, full-moon mist like the Drama Ho he is. Plus whatever that last scene with him ‘walking toward the light’ was. Not sure if that was supposed to be symbolic, a feverish hallucination, or something else. Cool enough aesthetic though.
I was a little wary of Darlene’s story line because Darlene in a car with a sappy, drunk Councilman Jamm, I mean Tobias the Santa, hearing his sad stories, is... a little on the nose, a little too depressing for me. I can’t really explain. It’s like at the crossroads of cliche and grim. BUT the plot twist at the end--that made it more than worth it. He was just being maudlin while drunk and she was projecting all of her own fears about Elliot’s suicidal ideation on him. I also loved his super-Christmas-y house. Like...yeah he really just is drunk! And that’s why he’s so weird. Otherwise, he’s just a good guy, who loves Christmas decorations, loves his wife, does good things for kids, is into Christmas movies... and is even willing to be nice to Darlene and encouraging. It was like weirdly heartwarming. Basically exactly what you’d expect from a Mr. Robot Christmas.
Then there’s Dom. Oh, Dom. I have to say, I’ve always really liked the scenes where she’s being emo in the dark in her apartment and I liked this one, too. Cannot believe she’s rubbing one out to Darlene’s interrogation video. True love lmao. I really did think that the RL encounter with the “woman” was real until the point where she became Dark Army. That’s probably on me because it is very unrealistic but like... I don’t know, it was vaguely plausible. I think Dom might really be that reckless, especially in her current state. And... idk people can be fake on the internet?? I don’t know. Again, as with the Darlene twist, it worked better as a dream. I hope that scene of Dom washing her face at the end was meant to be a bit of a turning point for her. I want her to be okay!
The scene at the gas station was legitimately hilarious. “I didn’t know you were on Big Brother!”
AU where Tyrell goes on Big Brother.
It also amused me how Elliot continuously spoke as if they were three people (”all our phones” instead of “both of our phones,” not that he and Tyrell don’t probably have more than one, for example) even though physically speaking, there are only two bodies experiencing this adventure.
I loved the music at the end: it was a really great combination of Christmas-y and creepy. Like the soundtrack to a Christmas horror movie or something.
I’m still a little uncertain about structuring the last season as basically a new hack (exactly what Esmail chose not to do in S2), one last big bad to take down. Like on the one hand, you basically have to do that in order to not only have a coherent season, but have a coherent final season, with a satisfying ending. But on the other hand, this is a show that has staked so much on its own complexity, on showing the vast ripples of unintended consequences in a highly connected world, and on fully acknowledging the realities of power and money, and their effects on the protagonists and their plans. Like, it’s not satisfying to see Elliot lose. And it’s also not satisfying to see a villain as great as whiterose taken down with anything like ease. Not that it’s been easy thus far. I don’t know. I’m probably judging WAY too early. I still have quite a few episodes before the finale.
I really expected Darlene and Elliot to meet up in this episode, at the end. It might have been a little too deus ex machina if they did, but that said I expect they’ll find each other early in the next ep, since they seem to be together for it (based on the summary).
I think this season is doing a really good job of emphasizing the themes of each episode, as shown in the titles, of keeping each episode relatively simple and tying all the story lines together. And not relying TOO much on narration to do it (since I’m not that into the Mr. Robot voice overs still tbh). The concept of searching for what can’t be found, and the parallel but never meeting journeys of the Alderson siblings at the center of the story, was really deftly done.
Elliot and Darlene remain the Most Important.

Hi Anon, thanks for getting in touch.  I was hoping my last post would start a conversation.  Allow me to respond to your points.
First things first, my post wasn't about the relevant merits of Blacksun or Bumbleby.  It was about how heterosexual and homosexual ships are viewed differently, even when both have evidence supporting them.  I could have used another show, or other ships.  The reason I used RWBY to illustrate my point is because the show made it very easy for me.  It contains a scene where a man winks at a woman, and a scene where a woman winks at a woman.  As the same thing happens in both scenes, it makes it incredibly easy to directly compare the two.
When you strip everything else away, both scenes contain the exactly same thing, a woman getting winked at.  Both winks are of a flirtatious nature, the only difference is the gender of the winker, so why is the M/F ship automatically accepted, but the F/F ship is immediately dismissed? Why do you think that happens?  I'd really, really like to get your thoughts on that.
I can give you my perspective.  We still live in a very heteronormative society.  It doesn't help that the media we consume conditions us to accept certain things, especially when it comes to attraction and romance. It all reinforces the notion that if a man and woman share an attraction, they are going to end up together.  A lot of straight people, and this isn't their fault, lack perspective when it comes to homosexual romance.  They don't see what's happening because they don't have a frame of reference.  This is why people should be more open minded.  If someone with more knowledge in a subject tells you something, you should listen.  For example, if a black person says something is racist, it's probably racist.  If a queer person says something is queer, it's probably queer.
As I said before, let me know why you think heterosexual and homosexual ships are treated differently.
Let me go back to the winking for a second.  Some people have pointed out that Yang is playful and she's winked at other people, including Weiss.  This is 100% correct.  If Yang had made a joke, or was joking around in general, we could question if the wink was flirtatious.  However, for the entire scene Yang is nothing but serious.  At the end, when she says “and if you feel like coming out tomorrow, I'll save you a dance.”, listen to the tone of her voice.  She sounds sincere, genuine, even hopeful.  She doesn’t sound like she’s joking beacuse this isn’t a joking matter for her.  She's inviting Blake out and promising to dance with her.  This seems pretty clear cut to me.  The suggestion that Yang is just being playful further reinforces my point on how differently heterosexual and homosexual interactions are viewed.
Now, onto the points you raise.
“I could also say if sun was a woman they would ship it”
You are 100% right.  Do you know why we would ship them?  Because we are desperate for representation.  We latch onto any homosexual pairing that has even the slightest hint of becoming romantic, simply because we don't get the sheer amount straight people do.  GLAAD published a report called “Where We Are on TV”.  It covers the 2018-2019 TV season and states “ Of the 857 regular characters expected to appear on broadcast scripted primetime programming this season, 75 (8.8%) were identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer.” Heterosexual people can watch any show on TV and find someone to identify with.  Queer people get 8.8%.
“sun and blake have actual chemistry with each other romantically and I have seen bxy shippers desperately jump through hoops to ignore evidence or act like black sun was sunk etc ”
No right minded Bumbleby shipper disputes the fact that Blake and Sun shared an attraction.  That is clear from what is presented on the show.  The split comes when the word romantic is used.  We all know that attraction does not always equal romance.  I haven't seen any evidence on the show to suggest that Blake and Sun's relationship went further than mutual attraction, before evolving into an amazing friendship that really helped Blake.
My personal opinion is that Sun stopped pursuing a romantic relationship at the end of Volume 3.  He saw how much Blake cared for Yang and resolved to be the best friend he could be for Blake.  I believe his speech to Neptune in Volume 6 confirms this.  Having said that, the show isn't over, we have no idea what the writers are going to do.  Maybe they will go with Blacksun, none of us really know what's going to happen.
Let me be perfectly clear here.  I had assumed that Blake and Sun would enter into a romantic relationship.  However, at this point in the story, I no longer think this.  Am I saying Blacksun was never a valid ship?  No. Am I criticising Blacksun?  No.  Am I saying you shouldn't support Blacksun?  Of course not.  I'm not even saying Blacksun has sunk.  It's not sunk because the show isn't over, and both of them are still alive.  That's the big difference here, in most fandoms, even if a M/F ship seems unlikely, it's still given more validation than an F/F ship.  This is the point I'm getting at.  Lets give M/F and F/F ships the same level of respect.
I'm not sure what evidence we're ignoring, or what hoops we're jumping through.  Please provide some examples for us to discuss.
“I have seen bxy shippers trying to use monty card as well. or act like because monty said there will be lgbt characters it must be team rwby”
I guess Bumbleby shippers do use the Monty card.  When we use it, we usually say “Monty wouldn't have a problem with Bumbleby.”  We feel safe saying this because we have actual evidence to back this up.  I wrote an entire post called “Monty Oum and LGBT representation” that supports this view.  We don't make unsupported claims like the people that say Monty wouldn't want Bumbleby to happen.  They have not been able to provide one shred of evidence to support this.  Do you really think these two sides are the same?  One is saying Monty was a loving, inclusive guy and the other side is calling him a homophobe.
The LGBT characters don't have to be on team RWBY.  There's also no reason that the LGBT characters shouldn't be on team RWBY.  There's no reason they shouldn't be Blake and Yang.
“not to mention that despite how bXy shippers pretend blake X yang isnt confirmed despite how much they try to twist adams lines as hinting at romance like destroy everything you love. or ignore adams racism”
I'm a bit confused here.  Bumbleby shippers pretend Bumbleby isn't confirmed?  So you're saying Bumbleby is confirmed?  I think I can safely say that the majority of Bumbleby shippers will admit that Bumbleby isn't canon yet.  We think they are right on the edge, but they aren't in a romantic relationship yet, meaning they aren't canon, yet.
We don't try to twist Adam's lines to hint at romance, the actual lines spoken by Adam hint at romance.  “I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love.  Starting with her.”  “What does she even see in you!” Adam can see how much Blake cares about Yang, and he considers Yang a romantic rival.
I think you're implying that Adam hates Yang because she's human.  I can see the logic, but Adam never uses the fact that Yang is human against her.  So, there's nothing there to ignore.  He could have said “Starting with that filthy human.” or “Why does she care so much about a human!” He doesn't, he clearly cares far more about Blake's feelings towards Yang, than the fact that Yang is human.
“or trying to equate bxy to renoras moments ignoring context and the way it was shot all they do is but both of them involve holding hands.”
Can you clarify what context we are ignoring?  The way I remember it is, Ren and Nora fight the Nuckelavee, a monster that has traumatised them.  They defeat it and grow closer, as evidenced by the looks they share, and them holding hands on the airship.  The fandom unanimously agrees that Renora is now canon.  Next we have Blake and Yang fight Adam, a monster that has traumatised them.  They defeat him and grow closer, as evidenced by the looks they share, and them holding hands on the airship.  For some reason, the fandom doesn't agree that Bumbleby is canon.
Damn it, this example would have been even better than the winking scenes.  Renora and Bumbleby really does highlight the different ways heterosexual and homosexual ships are viewed.
“another argument I have seen is but both pairings in jnpr involve partners dating when that doesnt mean it has to be the case for rwby.”
I don't remember ever seeing this.  Of course it doesn't have to be the case.  If someone says this, I don't think they're being serious.  I think it's safe to say that no one seriously expects Whiterose to become canon.  The work hasn't been done and the hints aren't there.  Bumbleby is another matter.  There's a reason we think this ship is going to be canon.  It's because the work has been done, the hints have been there and by the end of Volume 6, that line between platonic and romantic is looking pretty blurred.
If you haven't seen the hints and the work, please refer back to what I said earlier.  If a queer person tells you something is queer, it's probably queer.
Thanks anon, that was fun.  Come back if you have more points you'd like to discuss.

Whiterose Masterpost
Hello dear followers, here is a new review of RWBY and I must say that I am going to make this new review based on a small debate that is forming online after this season.
First of all I really like the Bumbleby but I am very objective in the subject, they will be aware that the BB is about to be canon or probably already is and this was confirmed by Kerry in the last RWBY Review.
Tumblr media
But what about Whiterose?
Lately I was reading that the Bumbleby was planned "from the beginning"  But what about Whiterose?
Do you remember Monty video about LGBT characters and relationships?
Tumblr media
Look, he did not refer to characters like Ilia, Terra etc. Do you know why? because those LGBT characters that were established did not have "development" they were simply there ... because the LGBT characters that Monty referred to were from the main caracther someone they were going to develop and their response reveals a lot:
"Sure, the best part of that ... is that maybe they are already there, because they are children (Lol what Ozpin said) ... they are on a way to try to help themselves discover themselves, not even we have to make the decision quickly because as we write these characters we learn from them, so they discover it is very real for us, there are many cast members who say that these couples would be great ... but we can not push it, but it has to be won and that's the best way to do it, we try to see more of his gender ".
Basically in those moments the Staff and Monty of all the things that they planned were debating. What would the "LGBT Couple developed" be? (Whiterose or Bumbleby) because it is obvious that this does not refer to the "secondary" since those are not developed yet, while the other principals Jaune was already hooked with Pyrrha, Ren and Nora either (so there is no debate in which he refers to the protagonists)
Although seeing everything rwby apparently they are developing both ship
Weiss x Ruby and Yang x Blake
Tumblr media
If I'm honest, I think they both had signs although it's impossible not to see how in the first 3 volumes the Whiterose surpassed the Bumbleby.
Why do I affirm this? the reason is that in the first volume the approach that the Whiterose received is too much compared to the Bumbleby.
In fact the greatest dynamics of the first volume was Arkos and Whiterose
Tumblr media
The meeting of Weiss and Ruby was much more important than the Bumbleby and that is a fact
Tumblr media
The dynamics of them were so funny because they were so opposite, but it is obvious that Monty liked to address every aspect of his dynamics.
The phase of accepting as partners was great
Tumblr media
is the classic dynamic of silly-adorable girl with noble girl-tsundere
Tumblr media
As I said before in this volume the Bumbleby was not even focused on any measure.
But instead the Whiterose already presented us with a new stage (the leadership) the fact that Weiss did not accept Ruby as a leader is quite important... because when the conflict is resolved gives Ruby a unique confidence and development as a protagonist
Tumblr media
I think the next scene is one of the most tender and emotional ... The first thing we see is that Weiss is surprised to see Ruby asleep from studying so much
Tumblr media
It's great how they approach all kinds of dynamics and if there is a problem it is solved in a brilliant way ... Ruby's smile towards Weiss is undoubtedly one of the sweetest and at the same time the kindness of Weiss stands out a lot.Ruby's smile when Weiss says something about her pass is a very nice detail
Tumblr media
As they saw their team dynamics was developed and they have many funny moments and the one that stands out the most
Vol 2
Even at the beginning of Vol 2 in the middle of jokes always Monty put the Whiterose ... in fact that scene inspired a famous gag of the manga, I must say that it is logical (it is almost a Japanese cliche yuri)
Tumblr media
Again in the food fight instead of pointing out the Bumbleby, the Whiterose sticks out, what makes me laugh is that Ruby treats Weiss in a more "special" way
Tumblr media
again there is almost no focus on the Bumbleby, instead the Whiterose:
Tumblr media
The difference between the rival ship of WhiteRose and Bumbleby
Tumblr media
For example, the scene in chapter 3 where the girls have their infiltration plan but the handsome boys appear.
Ruby automatically joins Sun-Blake and Neptune-Yang ... but Neptune is flirting with Weiss and she wants to go with him, the funny thing is that Ruby does understand but her reaction was "Fuck you come with me"
Tumblr media
His tsundere attitude is always nice, even when she is upset with Ruby because of what happened with Neptune ... she was disappointed that Ruby left her because of Penny.
Tumblr media
I love that narrative of how she would have preferred Ruby to be there
Tumblr media
something that makes me laugh at that scene, is that Yang does not say anything about Blake and Sun that contrasts with the other dynamic ... to be something "Planned from the beginning" this was weird
Did you see the difference? Is very evident
Tumblr media
In fact part of the function of Neptune was that Jaune stopped trying to conquer Weiss, that's why Neptune personality never really changed and it was not going to be anything important for Weiss
Tumblr media
Even when Neptune returned to the party with Weiss because of something that Jaune told him, this did not help them to develop them or anything, in fact they do not do anything.
Tumblr media
they did not even bother to focus it
Tumblr media
Again many elements that the Bumbleby owns appeared with the Whiterose such as the "Secret Language"
Tumblr media
To summarize things at the end of the Vol there are scenes where you could say that all the "pairs" of the series are together and it is obvious that the Whiterose is included
It was a great volume for the Whiterose as always
Tumblr media
Vol 3
Whiterose chapter 1-4
I must say that the vol 3 is one where there are very few moments of "ship" whatever your ship ... but I think the Whiterose highlighted on the others (even though the Bumbleby was planned from the "Start")
I love that Ruby always wants to be aware of how Weiss perceives her and the writers do a good job in that.
Tumblr media
As mentioned before the Whiterose really did not have "rival ship" because as seen in chapter 2 of Vol 3 instead of even joining them so that the audience says "hey there is a possibility" they show us that they will not be together.
It even contrasts with Sun and his friendly flirting with Blake
Tumblr media
Even before the chapter ends, the writers make Ruby stay close to Weiss as an advancement that both will see the "mentor" of Weiss.
Tumblr media
It is an irony that a chapter after the ship of Weiss and Neptune failed, the Whiterose took a very big step to make Ruby meet the only family to whom Weiss has great appreciation and respect
Tumblr media
I always laugh at this scene, the way it is written is phenomenal: Weiss presents Ruby, that Winter says "you took interest in my sister" is an interesting selection of words ... besides that the attitude of Ruby all uncomfortable is parallel to that of Sun when he is with Blake parents
Tumblr media
The fact that the role models of our girls fight in that scene says a lot
Tumblr media
Chapter 5 was about an interaction between Penny and Ruby that is basically an advance of the future misfortune, in addition to the team fight of Yang and Weiss
Tumblr media
Chapter 6 was about Phyrra decision and Yang duel against Mercury
Tumblr media
Chapter 7 was a Flashback to understand the situation
Tumblr media
Chapter 8: After 8 chapters recently, they give us a little Bumbleby moment, but even so it was a group thing, although if it counts, the other part was occupied by Pyrrha and Ruby, each one following their story separately.
Tumblr media
Chapter 9: Cornered Ruby, Cinder plan and Penny death, Grimm attack in addition to Roman release
Tumblr media
Chapter 10: Battle of the hunters against the Grimm, Ruby goes to meet Roman and the meeting of Blake against Adam
Tumblr media
Chapter 11: Battle of the hunters against the Grimm, Clash of Ruby against Roman and Neo, death of Roman, then the Adam-Blake-Yang moment (Bumbleby's biggest moment so far) ... Cinder gets the powers of one of the Maiden.
Tumblr media
Chapter 12
What can I say about this chapter? Apart from the obvious, the Whiterose interaction is very good
Tumblr media
It's always funny to see how Weiss dedicates that little smile to Ruby is something exclusive of both
Tumblr media
It's funny how in that chapter in the middle of the chaos of the battle the "couples" stand out, although I think the most obvious is that at that moment Ruby and Weiss made a parallel opposite to Jaune and Pyrrha
Tumblr media
As you saw here the Whiterose was a pretty complete ship and was really following a slow development, I mean compare it with the Bumbleby:
-It was not just a ship that had more development -It has the same number of important moments -It had 3 times more time on screen
Whiterose crisis (Vol 4 and 5)
After the great development of Ruby and Weiss in the first 3 volumes, what could go wrong?
Monty unfortunately died and his friends continued with his legacy ... but it is not the same, something that many began to notice was that Ruby lost a lot of prominence and of course they squandered the opportunity to develop it in parallel with Jaune
This being honest is a volume that I like very much except for the development that Ruby was given ... in general Ruby in the first chapter was more joking with Team RJNR and that's fine but the moments in which it should be used in develop Ruby as a character were wasted
Tumblr media
In chapter 2 of that Vol, do you remember the scene where Ruby looks at Jaune sad about Phyrra? That was a great moment for Jaune as a character, but it could also have been for Ruby ... but nothing was done and it was left to the air.
Tumblr media
Literally the most I saw of "Development" is when I attack Tyrion aggressively to save his uncle ... but it was a short scene.
Tumblr media
One of the biggest complaints of that Volume was that Jaune stole everything that should be the development of Ruby questioning, the grief and basically the elements of the protagonist ... in addition to his connection with Weiss that is quite focused on the previous ones volumes
Tumblr media
the last scene where Ruby character could have been given more depth before focusing on Ruby made Jaune give him a 1 minute speech and then the whole end of the season to be focused on Ren and Nora ... basically Ruby's development It was a total crap .., in fact Jaune had to say this is so stupid.
Tumblr media
Weiss in Volume 4
As with Ruby, weakening the great dynamics between Ruby and Weiss made the Weiss saga a bit lower than it would have been ... do not get me wrong, its part in the volume is very good but it could have been exceptional, in that Weiss volume has 24 minutes of screen
Tumblr media
Something I noticed in Vol 4 is that even if Weiss was very dissatisfied with his situation, there is really no scene where she misses his teammates or anything like that..(although he left it understandable in a scene I think it was better to execute it in a better way)
Chapters where Weiss appears -Episode 2 -Chapter 6 -Chapter 7 -Chapter 9 -Chapter 11
The only thing that we can appreciate of this arch was the idiots that are the rich, the crisis of Atlas touched by General Ironwood, the rules of Weiss father and his general discontent since she does not want to be like his father ... but in if it was a regular arc and what I highlight is that he learned to invoke ... although the consequences of the writing of Kerry and Miles affected Weiss in Volume 5.
Tumblr media
Vol 5 (Weiss the Bumbleby Shipper)
I think it's no surprise to anyone that the Staff had a taste for Bumbleby in fact in Vol 4 they put quite subtextual scenes between them even though they were separated ... but they forgot the Whiterose a lot and this is reflected in this volume (which as you know it was the worst of all)
Ruby narrative at the beginning of the volume literally does not exist...I mean, she is there with her friends and everything. But does something relevant happen? Does she question something? She have any development? unfortunately she does not have it ... The only thing she did was to become friends with Oscar and even if that is not possible, it could be considered a "protagonist" action since in the end everyone did it
Tumblr media
One of the things that really bothered me in this Volume is that they decided to have Weiss approach Yang so she can be a builder of the Bumbleby plot. What do I mean?
When Weiss is captured (for no reason) because she should be with Yang and then have more confidence in having the "talk" with her.
Tumblr media
I remember the scene where they both embrace and I said "what a nice scene" but then I said to myself, really? ... if some in the fandom keep saying
"But Yang does not have many scenes with Blake in the first 3 Volumes" which part this is true ... but now ask
How many had with Weiss? The truth is that their interactions were very vague. In fact, Weiss interacted more with Blake because of the White Fang incident, the only time they had a long interaction was in a Vol 3 combat but more of that I did not understand because they decided to make that scene between those two.
but is fine
Tumblr media
What bothers me about that scene is that when Weiss meets Ruby, instead of making a more intimate scene between the two of them it was something group and again that's not bad ... but:
Why did Miles and Kerry prefer to make a lonely scene of Yang and Weiss? he is too stupid as if Pyrrha revived but Kerry and Miles put a very significant scene with Ren ... but when she meets Jaune (There is only a group hug)
Tumblr media
Makes sense? Obviously not ... but I'm going to say the reason why this narrative bothers me a lot.
While Ruby is still relegated in this volume, our beloved Weiss with no apparent reason was much closer to Yang, while relegating his interactions with Ruby many say "What is the problem" well this is simple.
Tumblr media
Not only this is the reason why Ruby lost a lot of prominence in this Vol in particular ... but the reason for bringing Weiss and Yang closer was only for it to drive the Bumbleby and it is like ignoring past volumes
In this scene basically Yang is doing his drama for Blake of how he "needs her, who was there for her and blah blah blah" that parallels Ilia ... well it's good writing if you want to push the Bumbleby ... now that I think it even when I love the Bumbleby the only thing that irritates me that thanks to this we lost good interactions between Ruby and Weiss ... that for some reason they refused to offer us, I mean after the Phyrra did neither of them have a talk? although the damage was already done from Vol 4
In that scene Weiss shares something very intimate with Yang, but as I said it's a bit empty that the writers decide to do this with the two of them ... it's as if Jaune did this with Nora (something fucking weird and the worst thing is that it would be for boost another ship) ... literally the narrative relegated Ruby too much.
Tumblr media
Continuing the narrative of Weiss and Ruby, we can appreciate how in the conflict against Cinder not only is not something of great impact on Weiss and Ruby but it is decided to make one of the most stupid scenes of all RWBY (Make Jaune the protagonist) ... make a drama between Cinder-Jaune-Weiss where the narrative focused on Jaune's emotions when Weiss is wounded.
Where was Ruby? pulled out of the plot when they were about to kill Weiss.
Tumblr media
The importance that they gave to the interactions between Weiss and Yang was very strange if not forced, those of giving focus to those of Jaune with Weiss were much rarer and literally the dynamics of these is the least developed of all. But do you know what is the worst?
That Yang does not do so much "drama" for what happened with Weiss I'm not saying that she does not "worry" but really did almost nothing with that dynamic...Vol 5 is supposed to have made them "closer"
Why not keep focusing on them? ... Because obviously give more prominence to Jaune and of course since Weiss was not going to boost the ship of Yang and Blake ...why give them more scenes with Yang?
Weiss is one of my favorite characters and I mean it but in this volume it was crap.
Tumblr media
The worst climax of Vol 5 is that literally Weiss neither thanks Jaune nor has any "link" with him after that, not even a small gratitude scene (I made a meme of that) ... but going back to matter, Blake comes back and that just happens
(Weiss remembers that Ruby exists) For what reason? because it is no longer necessary to boost the Bumbleby xDD ... I mean it's hilarious how Miles and Kerry destroyed what could have been a big volume for these two but obviously it was the turn of the Bumbleby ... shit like I hate what they did in this volume, even when I'm happy for the BB (it should be done differently)
the looks that Weiss gives Ruby are the most loving in all rwby (a pity we had to wait too long for this)
The way in which Weiss looks at Ruby in that scene is the same as that of Yang to Blake and that can not be denied
Tumblr media
Weiss and Ruby in Volume 6 (The rebirth of Whiterose)
Do you know one of the main reasons why this Volume was great?
If you can not guess, I'll tell you that the Whiterose came back stronger than ever, even though the Staff was going to focus the Bumbleby ... the Whiterose narrative was not going to be affected.
The scene of both in the opening is so cute (besides that it is literally a cliche yuri) I love that the opening also shows us that Weiss is the closest person to Ruby and his greatest support
Tumblr media
Many focus on the teamwork of Yang and Blake but I think the most remarkable thing was the dynamic of Ruby and Weiss was simply a genius.
Tumblr media
All this in the first minutes (as a bonus)
Tumblr media
I loved the scene in which Weiss dedicates that smile that only has reserved for Ruby ... a pity that those hunters interrupted the moment
Tumblr media
Besides, I want to remind you that again the Staff brought Neptune who was still the same idiot as always, besides the fact that they do not bother to spend a moment between him and Weiss.
Tumblr media
Many talk about the Bumbleby moments of chapter 5 ... but I think the Whiterose moments are just as good.
Weiss feels tired, sad and wants the company of Ruby and our foolish protagonist does not even notice it, it's just cute
Tumblr media
I like the fact that while the Bumbleby there is a lot of "drama" the Whiterose is developing without needing that focusing as both complement each other
Tumblr media
I like how Narrative makes Weiss the first person to appear after they tell Ruby to think about the people who love her
Tumblr media
this also happened in previous chapters, in the same scene where Yang focuses on Blake and Blake focuses on Yang ... Ruby first thinks of Weiss and Weiss only focuses on Ruby (a great parallel)
Tumblr media
Again in chapter 8 Weiss is full of insecurity and Ruby is there to give her support ... Weiss dedicates that little smile again, to be interrupted by Qrow
Tumblr media
Vol 6 chapter 11-13
What can I say about this? I just loved it, there were Renora moments, team work ... but the scenes of Weiss and Ruby stood out
The scene where Ruby almost claims that she just wanted Weiss to be by his side in the battle was great
Tumblr media
more scenes of dynamics together
Tumblr media
Although the most significant scene was in which Ruby almost died and Weiss rescues her.
The expressions of the "ice queen" are great, her fear that something happens to Ruby is tender and even more so if we consider that she still does not let go of his hand ... Ruby makes a joke to relieve attention to the once showing his absolute confidence in Weiss with "I knew you would"
Tumblr media
Ruby expression at Weiss discomfort is very funny but I liked the fact that Weiss is still angry about Ruby imprudent actions.
It's almost a couple fight
Tumblr media
Although the thing does not end there, the next scene next Ruby is together with Weiss separated...but for some reason the Staff decided that both are clinging in a tender way in the middle of the fight when it was not necessary.
It is obvious that they were put together and I must say that I love it (besides that it is more suspicious when this chapter stood out the ship of the series)
Tumblr media
I saw some post about how in the memories of Ruby the Bumbleby focused, it is debatable ... but really the same thing was done with the Whiterose
Tumblr media
The memory of Weiss and Ruby from Vol 1 was one of the most beautiful and coming back to the scene is really quite significant
Tumblr media
The Vol 6 can be considered correctly the saga "Bumbleby" for all the necessary development between Yang and Blake ... but this Vol also had a lot of Whiterose but in preparation for the Weiss arc that directly involved Ruby ... it was a great volume for the Whiterose
Tumblr media
Bonus
Something that I always noticed that the Bumbleby had a lot of external support from the Staff ... but in the additional material the support was regular. How does the Whiterose compare?
The Whiterose is the third most popular ship and still has a great focus on all the Anthalogias and in fact the element "yuri" is stronger than with the Bumbleby in these adaptations
Tumblr media
Many talk about the flirtation that Yang does to Blake ... but it does not compare to the flirting that Ruby does to Weiss in these sleeves
Tumblr media
It's not to say anything, but the Japanese understand the yuri signals of this ship
Tumblr media Tumblr media
RWBY official manga
If this is not enough, I think you should see the adaptation to RWBY manga in the Shonen Jump.
The focus of that manga is directly on the Whiterose even though Bumbleby and Arkos give more obvious signals ... but the Whiterose stands out above all of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also it should be noted that Monty liked Whiterose a lot, I still remember his art of both and clearly retweeted several fan art from this ship
Tumblr media
Conlusion
It is evident that the Whiterose was established as "End game" as well as the Bumbleby in fact a little more, so Whiterose companions do not get discouraged because the Bumbleby is canon, since when opening that door ... it leaves a world of possibilities and thanks to the Vol 6 that left many things to develop between Ruby and Weiss as the Vol 5 left many things pending for the Bumbleby.
That said, I'll finish the review with something obvious to everyone "Whiterose best ship"

why, sam, why
a collection of thoughts from someone who is subjecting herself to the Terror that is waiting for weekly mr robot episodes. but, it’s back again after nearly 2 years, so who the fuck is excited to suffer for a few months!? Me!
s4e1 was a huge ass ride though, so here’s some organized thoughts&opinions from That Whole Ordeal last night (including spoilers, obviously, so b wary please):
1) angela! really!? fuck, i was Not prepared for that one! i guess it does make sense, though—i just wasn’t expecting price to sell his own daughter out so quickly. it really goes to show the extent of whiterose’s power, and that she did designate angela as a threat; the moment she threatened to retaliate, whiterose had to take her out. i thought we would see more of angela taking her fighting chances this season, but i guess...that’s it. wow. what a way to send off a main character. i’m upset, but i’ll accept it.
1.5) but on that note, i’m REALLY hoping she doesn’t become elliot’s “fridged girlfriend” motivation for this season. as in: everything angela did is forgotten, and everyone else who was lost is forgotten in favor of elliot citing angela as his sole motivating factor. that’d be disrespectful to both of them...but i trust that sam will do his best to avoid that trope. Hopefully.
2) regarding the pain revolving around angela’s loss, god, seeing darlene in the state she was hit hard. i really, really am hoping she can get some help. she’s been through a lot. and now i have to wonder: does her drug usage have anything to do with vera? his appearance didn’t get mentioned yet. and, FUCK, the clip of her and dom together in the preview!!! I’m So Fucking Upset! a girl is gonna have to brace herself for that confrontation!!!
3) janice? you’re a clown. my one roommate literally recoiled in shock at the threat she spit out about dom’s mother. Like, Christ.
4) tyrell, just cruising by on some apathy? can’t relate, man, i’m freaking the fuck out. i’ve been long predicting that he’s as good as dead, but since angela is dead now, i have to wonder how quickly his demise will be coming...if it is, at all. i still think it will, but i guess he’ll do something first. i’m interested in seeing what his role in this might be.
5) it really didn’t feel like a mr robot episode, and i think that’s because elliot wouldn’t talk to us. him taking down a pedophile was a nice callback to the pilot, but robot having to step in and narrate everything...? whew. that’s a new one. it’s nice to see them working together i guess, but elliot’s dedication is on a new level. i’m proud of him. but i miss him! at least we know he cares, lol.
5.5) speaking of elliot’s dedication, i also thought his reaction to dying was telling. i love that he only got caught because of a physical and human error+confrontation instead of an online one: because, of course, he wouldn’t have allowed the latter. the way he was fighting and screaming that whiterose was going to be taken down, that he had the upper hand, and that the fight wouldn’t end with him? he’s come a long way with his pride and outward passion.
6) SAM.
7) this show is slowly, i assume, going to step into the sci-fi genre. it already has (eg: angela admitting that she thought whiterose could revive her dead mother), but now it’s got me wondering if elliot was Really revived, or if he did die and woke up in an alternate timeline or something, lol. esmail has me scrambling. for now, i’ll operate under the assumption that price really did wake him up & he never actually died. but, uh, i’m nervous about how everything will turn out. yeah.
7.5) that stated, if sam plays 11 more episodes just to be like: “surprise! elliot really Did die in episode 1, and everything else has been a dream!” at the end, i’ll Never. Forgive Him. like, i don’t think he will, but. just to have that on the record. i have had Enough of these mind games!
8) whiterose (& her new assistant! bye grant, ur still in my thoughts) is shaping up to be a scary motherfucking villain. that was cemented in s3, but this episode confirmed that she is Not here to fuck around. i mean, she might fuck around with elliot, but all for her scary, unknown reasons. i will spend My Time...waiting to see what she does next.
9) overall, it was a great start to the season, but it was an emotional ass rollercoaster, too. i’m trying to stay strapped in for the ride, haha, but i feel like it might go off the rails. cheers to the next few months of agony!

Note
could you do an analysis of elliot's dream sequence in 1x4 please? i love reading your thoughts on the show. thx
i sure can try!! this gets lengthy tho so sit back & enjoy while i try my best to write coherent sentences. under the cut we go;
alright so the way i’m going to do this is by dividing the dream sequence into 6 parts, give a quick summary of what’s going on in each of them, and then add my thoughts; sounds good? here we go:
part 1.
summary: mr robot leads elliot to some drug house, elliot gets injected, there’s a shootout, both he & the girl are shot, he glances at the tv to see the weather forecast, followed by an fsociety speech, before he closes his eyes. next, he’s standing next to mr robot who hands him the key and the mask, then the program switches to an ecorp commercial.
first and foremost, i want to point out the symbolism when the shooting begins. the girl who had given elliot the shot was kissing him before she was killed and fell dead next to him. so i think the drug-supplier-girl who he hooks up with & she ends up dying is a reference to shayla? (keep in mind this dream happens before her death); just as how him getting shot and falling on the floor could be seen as foreshadowing.
when it comes to the fsociety speech, mr robot delivers a very unique line in my opinion: “if you have any interest in waking from your slumber, in retrieving lost, damaged, or stolen memory, we are here for you.” how i see this particular quote is tied to my overall opinion on elliot’s coping mechanisms. he suffers from DID- so we know for a fact he has lost & damaged memories. but what about those stolen ones? maybe it goes with the package but maybe it’s something we’ve yet to find out. waking up from his slumber could just be a reference to this being a dream- or in a sense where elliot needs to step up and discover these things for himself.
the key, as you’ll come to realize, is a constant repetition in these scenes. in this first part, mr robot is the one who has it around his neck. once elliot stands next to him, he’s handed the key and the mask. in my head this is a direct symbolism to what we see at the beginning of the show. mr robot introducing elliot to fsociety. so let’s say whoever holds the key, is the one in control of the operation and hold onto that thought for the rest of these, okay?
when elliot asks “what’s it open?” mr robot answers with just “it belongs to you now” followed by saying the mask was made in orient (meaning east, could even be china. dark army.) and just for his head- which i see as a little ‘we’re the same person’ detail- but then adds “now, find your monster, and turn the key.” then the commercial plays. this could be there just to get us to believe e-corp is the monster, turning the key is taking them down. but that’s far too easy.
part 2.
summary: elliot is walking down a neighborhood until he stops in front of the aldersons house. as he turns to look at it, the house is replaced by a pillar with a note spelling out ‘error 404: not found’. next shot is of a little girl on a scooter humming a tune then stopping to look at elliot. they chat a bit, then she picks up the key and hands it to him. once the key’s with him again, he hums along and approaches the house.
the first thing we see, aside from the copy-paste houses, is the mailbox which has the number 404 written on it above the name “the aldersons” so we know that once he turns to look at the house, it’s supposed to be his childhood home. it’s in the shot until he turns only to see the aforementioned error. it’s common knowledge by now but i’m going to add it anyway: “the browser was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested” as a callback to what i mentioned before about lost memories, i’m also going to mention that there is something about this house that he’s forgetting. my guess is the reveal in s3 finale. finding out that he had been the one who jumped.
we know the girl with the scooter is young darlene, humming frère jacques. (brother john/or however your version translated the name) and essentially the lyrics are “brother [name] x2, are you sleeping? x2, ring the morning bells x2, ding ding dong x2.” we can make the connection to the 'slumber’ which mr robot mentioned in part 1- with the same meaning, i’d say. though to continue with my point, elliot greets her with “hello. hello, friend” to what she responds with “but we’re not friends” because she is his sister. again, this dream sequence had been before we knew that obviously, so this is important because in the french version of the song; the brother is the one who is supposed to ring the morning bells- and as elliot hums along and approaches the house, he sings “ding ding dong” out loud as further confirmation he’s, in fact, the brother in question.
i avoided the “first can you tell me, what’s your monster?” part because i don’T KNOW–
now, i mentioned before how whoever holds the key is the one in control of the operation? darlene had been the front face of fsociety while elliot was away during s2; once he’s out of prison, he gets the key back.
part 3.
summary: the door opens and elliot is standing in his apartment. tyrell is there, holding the key- looking at elliot and not saying anything. instead, qwerty the fish is the one to chat him up as elliot sits on the couch next to him.
at this point we know 'whoever holds the key’ theme i’m going with- and here it’s no different. we know tyrell had been the one who initiated 5/9 with mr robot on that day. though he never gives it back, since he’s technically working with elliot ever since the hack.
now qwerty’s dialogue is so interesting to me because it’s this whole loop thing which i love so much and i’m gonna put the most important quotes here: “time’s money, elliot.” we all know which character is obsessed with time, and keep that in mind cause i’m about to bring it up again later. the rest goes: “when you’re in a fishbowl, ain’t no such thing as change. my entire life has been spent in this thing. my whole world’s on your side table. i look around same shit, different day. the lighting, the furniture. even the sounds always the same. i’m stuck on a loop. and it won’t stop until my life does.” now i think what he’s referring to here- being stuck in a 'fishbowl’ and seeing the same things, being stuck on a loop- could be seen as foreshadowing to elliot’s jail time. however, it’s not the only time elliot has this 'loop’ moment. the one that i think is being predicted here as well is the loop he has while working for e-crop? so the answer to how to ‘help’ his pet is to “move him to a goddamn window” it just screams 'do something.’ or rather- see the bigger picture.
part 4.
summary: they’re in a restaurant, angela is cutting up a big betta fish. elliot is sitting on the other side of the table as he stares in betrayal and informs angela it’s his friend. she tries to feed him a piece but he refuses and looks over to see his younger self being force fed the fish by his mother. then elliot gets served a raspberry pie in which he finds the key upon the first bite. angela misunderstands the gesture and accepts the 'proposal’ which is followed by applause as she takes the key, hugs him, and they leave.
since qwerty had mentioned 'time is money’ as some kind of whiterose symbolism. seeing angela being the one to cut him up and say he’s delicious is, at the same time, betrayal in the sense she’s associated with whiterose; and the fact she has been working with mr robot behind elliot’s back.this further proves the elliot working at e-corp loop i talked about earlier since qwerty is associated with both whiterose and angela at this point.
when she offers him the food, he refuses and sees his younger self do the same thing- but what’s fun is that the woman sitting behind his mother has a white rose in her hair. so this could be seen as his mother’s general abuse plus both of them trying to get him to work for the dark army. this refusal is further emphasized with a symbolic 'wall’ between himself and angela.
the food in which the key is placed is a raspberry pie- or rather, raspberry pi. the one elliot is supposed to plant in steel mountain in this very episode, if it weren’t for the withdrawal he’s going through. so he’s- once again- holding the key. though not for long, since angela’s the next one to get it. i think her control had been in the episode where she had to help darlene.
bonus: the image taped next to elliot on his table seems to be a guy in a boat?? there’s another one, too- but i never got a good look and have no idea what it means but it’s there.
part 5.
summary: elliot is entering the arcade in a tuxedo (with the hoodie still over it lmao), slowly approaching angela who is leaning against the wall and wearing a white dress. she approaches him, tells him a couple of things w a cynical attitude, before giving him the key back and saying it doesn’t fit. when he asks why, it cuts to black in the middle of her response.
first of all the song playing in the back is an absolute bop and i suggest listening to it but ok let’s go back to serious stuff:
angela is dressed in white and standing in front of an illustration of a joker. the one symbolism i know about that in particular is that he’s a symbol of beginning and end- considering you have him at the top and bottom of the deck. so it could be seen as another loop, right? it’s there and i can see it in the scene when angela rewinds the video of the buildings falling- but it might as well have more meaning than that. for instance, it’s important to note that elliot has the same illustration behind himself. when she approaches elliot, there’s a line separating them, suggesting they are opposites. further emphasizing the two sides of the deck reference.
the highlights in her monologue for me are the following: “you’re not gonna do it, are you? change the world. figures, you were only born a month ago.” and this is so, so strange because it’s later followed by “you’re not elliot, you’re the-” and then it cuts off. it’s too obvious to say it might be another personality elliot created. either mr robot, or us- but the last part changes everything because she isn’t asking elliot what his monster is. she’s asking the person she sees in elliot. “you’re afraid. afraid of your monster. do you even know what it is?” and honestly?? i fuckiN DON’T.
part 6.
summary: dark room filled with children’s laughter. elliot’s calling out and saying hello- then he sees the camera and the fsociety mask in front of him. he slowly approaches it, has an inner monologue with us, puts it on and says 'i am here. you are alone.’ which is followed by the arcade lights turning on & beeping as elliot takes the mask off and gasps. then the dream is officially over.
the laughter i associate with forgotten childhood, i think? i’m not too smart on this scene i won’t lie. i think it was supposed to be seen as the “you created all of this” or “i am mr robot” foreshadowing but that seems a bit too simple? though honestly, i can’t see much else here other than the sound of the arcade being the 'alarm’ that wakes him out of his slumber.
another one for this, that’s a bit far fetched but can work goes: the children’s laughter are young darlene & elliot- and the camera elliot is looking at, the one w the mask attached to it could represent the camera he took from his father on that day he jumped out. considering the mask had originally come from a movie darlene & himself used to watch as kids.
the words elliot says when he puts the mask on, when he’s mr robot, are “i am here. you are alone.” which could mean a number of things?? since the moment he says this, the arcade lights up and shows that he is, in fact, alone. once again the symbolism i personally see the most here is 'although nobody else is physically here with you, i’m there inside of you.’ another ‘we’re the same person’ one here, i’m guessing.
so i must admit i ended on quite an anticlimactic note. since it’s the scene that’s the shortest and confuses me a lot- i don’t know how much sense this all made but i tried my best to sum my thoughts up without going all over the place. but!! you can tell me what you think about all this in my inbox and give some of your own input all the time, i’d love to hear it!! same goes for if you want me to analyze any of the other dream sequences elliot has. thanks for reading!!

Whiterose: a stormy night
"Weiss?"
The quiet sound awoke her but she hadn't really registered it yet when a sudden flash lit the room. For a brief instant she could see Ruby standing just inside the door. Weiss thought Ruby looked like something was bothering her but wasn't sure it wasn't a trick of the light or her still half asleep mind.
"Are you awake?" Ruby continued fading away into a vague shape in the dark as the lightning passed. Weiss caught it that time, the slight tremble in Ruby's voice. Something was definitely wrong. Thunder boomed at last a loud powerful clap followed by a long low grumble which filled the space between the two girls. The storm seems pretty intense. Weiss thought looking at the rain pelting against a window nearby. Isn't that just cliche.
She sat up in her bed with a grimace clutching her side. Juane and her own aura had healed the worst of her wound but it was a very severe injury and the battle had only been a few nights ago. There was still some soreness, it would fade but in the mean time sitting up was annoyingly unconfortable.
"I'm here Ruby what's wro..."
She must have grunted louder then she thought when she sat up because Ruby suddenly appeared at her side grabbing and interrupting her.
"Weiss! Are you still in pain here don't move!"
"I'm fine, just still a little sore. Don't worry about it." Weiss said with a touch of annoyance she hated being babied almost as much as she hated actually needing the help but Ruby wasn't really babying her. She was just worried about Weiss. They'd all lost far too much already and Weiss was terrifyingly aware of how close they came to losing her as well. Besides, it showed how much Ruby cared about her and that was probably the only nice thing about the whole situation.
Ruby looked at Weiss as though she didn't really believe that explanation then her attention shifted to Weiss's side. She looked at it as though it fascinated her, as though it were something fantastic and impossible. Slowly she reached out a hand and gently touched Weiss's side as if to confirm the wound was truly healed. As Ruby's fingers gently flowed over the spot where Weiss had been impaled her face twitch slightly in pain it was a tiny thing but Ruby recoiled instantly. She looked back up into Weiss's eyes with a horrified expression and tears already in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry!" She blurted out falling to her knees besides Weiss's bed and holding one of Weiss's hands in both of her own.
"For what?" Weiss said trying to pretend like she hadn't felt anything. It was stupid and she knew it, Ruby had clearly seen her flinch but her pride could still get the best of her sometimes. Although, even for the... excitable Ruby, that apology was excessive so maybe the question worked out. There was clearly something more bothering Ruby.
"For everything. Its all my fault. I failed. Over and over again I've failed. I failed to save Penny. I failed to save Pyrhha. I failed to keep our team together. I failed to protect Yang, Uncle Qrow and you. All of you have gotten hurt because of me. I failed to stop Cinder. I've failed at everything and I'm so sorry. We were suppose to be Huntresses, heroes, who came to the rescue but in the end when it mattered we didn't save the day. We didn't even save ourselves we bled and died and fell apart and left ruined cities behind us. I'm the leader Weiss, I set the tone, led us to where we are so when we failed it's because I failed, miserably. Ozpin was wrong, you should have been leader maybe then with you driving us, keeping us focused and working, maybe then things would have been different."
"No" Weiss replied simply but harshly staring at Ruby, eyes colder then an Atlas winter proving once again she had earned her nickname Ice Queen.
Ruby stared back dumbfounded. "Wh-what!?" She stammered too shocked by the response to really understand it.
"I said no!" It wasn't merely harsh this time it was angry even vicious and she shouted it straight into Ruby's face. Ruby was thrown backward by the ferocity of the verbal assault. Falling off her knees onto her butt, propped up with her hands behind her. "I don't accept this apology! I don't accept this you! I've lost too much, the wealth and life I always knew, what little semblance of a family I had, and far too many friends. I won't lose the Ruby I remember too. The Ruby who always had a smile on her face. The one who always had a plan and was confident it would work even when there was no way it would. The Ruby who would face all the dangers in the world and laugh while she did. Who knew none of those things you just listed were her fault. Who made and kept a promise to be the best leader she could be. The Ruby who I missed more then I would have believed possible everyday I was away from her. You are not that Ruby and I will not accept that she is gone. So leave! Get out of my room! And bring back the real Ruby Rose bring back my best friend!" Anger clashed with grief and remembered pain as she spoke. Fear that perhaps she had permanently lost what she most wanted back picked at the back of her mind and by the time she finished tears flowed from her eyes like money had once fallen from her purse.
Lightning flashed again and thunder boomed making the silence which hovered between them even more pronounced. The tears had been shocked out of Ruby. Everything which she had come here to say all the things which had been bothering her disappeared before the new outburst by Weiss. She sat there trying to processes what had been said unsure what to do or say in response.
Weiss was slowly getting her emotions back in check the tears came to a stop eventually and her anger faded but still the silence hung between them neither knew what to do, where to go from here. Then suddenly Ruby jumped up hugging Weiss tightly and causing them both to crash back onto Weiss's bed. Weiss was so shocked she barely even noticed the pain in her side as she found Ruby laying on top of her. She hugged Ruby back treasuring the embrace.
"I'm sorry too" Weiss said at last still holding Ruby. "I shouldn't have blown up that way. It's just I really did miss you. And you're smiling face" she said placing one hand on Ruby's cheek Ruby obliged her with that great big grin only she was capable of. "And all those crazy shenanigans of yours" she add with a chuckle. "You do know none of those things were your fault right? That you did an increadible job just doing what you've done. Bringing us all here." Weiss finished more seriously
"I do" Ruby replied "it's just hard sometimes, with everything that's happened and everything we still face, not to think about what if's and to get down or worry about what's to come. But I think I just forgot what it's like to have my team with me. Nothing could stop us not with my best friend at my side! Right?" "Right. Best friend." Weiss agreed kissing Ruby lighlty on the cheek. Ruby pulled back slightly and stiffened as she felt Weiss's lips on her skin but it only lasted a second before she relaxed and layed back down next to Weiss holding her. The two lay that way for a time neither knew how long not saying anything just enjoying each others presence. Eventually, Ruby got up and headed toward the door. "I'd better head back to my room. I'm going to fall asleep if I stay any longer and everybody will give us weird looks if I wake up in your room tomorrow. Night Weiss!" "Oh ok, goodnight." Weiss said hoping she didn't sound too disappointed but she had been really comfortable and she wanted Ruby to stay. Weiss let out a long sigh as Ruby closed the door behind her and then suddenly she blushed intensely oh god what was I thinking were we cuddling?! And did I really kiss her!? No, no it's fine I'm just exhuasted and it was a really emotional conversation that's all I just... I need to go to sleep I can figure this all out in the morning. She thought closing her eyes as a million ideas and concerns flew through her mind she tried to shut them out and eventually they quieted and she fell asleep with a smile on her face

Holy bejeesus, let’s talk about this! (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Next, we see whoever this is. She’s likely atlesian, and she’’s got some heavy tech on her. She’s who was riding bumblebee earlier, though I’m not sure of her role yet.
Tumblr media
Here we see RWBYJNPRQO packing up to leave for the station. Yang is pissed over something, surprising everyone else, and Weiss doesn’t have her scarf yet, so she’ll recieve it as they approach the station or sometime after this particular screenshot.
Tumblr media
*sighs in rensexual/renora* plus, good look at the new grimm. With the new grimm being confirmed a Sphinx, these sorta sphinxes might be connected to it. Likely, I’m actually just full of shit and they have no connection whatsoever.
Tumblr media
Plus what looks like a new whiterose combo move, though Weiss seems to be making a seperate tornado through methods unknown, so possibly not. We’ll see.
Tumblr media
And (as I somehow forgot to include in Part 1) the overlaying monologue of the trailer has Salem scaring Emerald into submission as she takes Cinder’s place, saying how she could have whatever she wants as long as she doesn’t step out of line. And that she isn’t threatening Em, she’s promising her.
Tumblr media
Also Tyrian’s back. Yay!🎉
Anywhos, time to figure some shit out:
So, what do we know?
The train’ll be attacked by these new Grimm
Sun and Ilia do not board the train
JNPR does board the train, but the are not seen off the train afterwards.
Ozpin is up to some shit
Emerald is replacing Cinder, and we learn why Cinder’s so shit-scared of Salem
Jaune has finally figured out flower power
Adam is angsting.
What might we know?
Someone dies (funeral procession like shot at the beggining, and Ruby’s only line is: “don’t let anyone else die.”)this may be Ren or Nora, prompting Jaune and the survivor to move ahead independant of everyone else.
There’s possibly someone closely connected to Ozpin and Salem, who’s being worshipped by bandits atm
We might be seeing Amber’s backstory, or simply a new character
And the relic may disclose knowledge that causes a falling out between Ozpin and everyone else, with Qrow mysteriously absent.
Now, as stated above, Nora or Ren may die. If that were to happen, I’d honestly rather see Ren go and have Nora develop more. The possibilities are numerous, to say the least
Jaune could relate Ren’s death to Phyrra’s in an attempt to comfort Nora
Nora’s connection to the norse through her Thor inspiration and Valkerie name means she’s likely Atlesian, a point that would’ve been wasted if she died.
Ren’s throw might’ve been him tossing her away from a lethal attack, and the footage was just altered to disguise it.
Ren’s story is over, but Nora’s has barely begun. A death + return to homeland would be the perfect opprtunity to develop her more.
Regarding Ozpin, I’ve never hid how suspicious I was of him. Being based of 2 notoriously manipulative liars, trying to “protect” maidens whilst running schools that’re suspiciously majority female, etc etc. So to say I’m not surprised he’s falling out with RWBY is an understatement. As for Qrow, I think he’s absent from that shot because Oz sucker punched him, remove the strongest player from the board before it can eliminate you.
Reblog or message me with any ideas, and I’ll be more than happy to address them!

Fic recommendations to fill the void during the hiatus
Hey there! RWBY volume 5 ended a while ago and we have to wait until October for the next one to come out. That's a lot of time, right? Well, to feel less empty during the hiatus, I tend to drown myself in fanfics and thought this would be a good occasion to recommend some of my favourites to you – some are one-shots, some are multi-chaptered and some are whole series.
I'm starting with my top 5 ever and then it's just in alphabetical order. I really recommend reading them, they're all absolutely fantastic! All of them are completed (except if they’re part of a series, then the series might not be finished yet) so you can binge-read them right away – and it's A LOT, so you'll be occupied for some time. Also, I included a small summary or overview of the general events and I linked the author's tumblr in case they mentioned it somewhere on their profiles so you can pay them a visit!
So, have fun! If you have any other good fics you want to recommend, just write them in a comment or send me a message – I would love to check them out!
1. Fire and Gold / War and Peace series by Beatonen
Slice of life-ish Bumbleby at first, all with embarrassing parents and fluff, followed by some action, angst and A+ reunions. Starting right after volume 4, this is only the first part of a series that ultimately leads to a war against Salem with a new work having just having come out recently – and BOY did it not disappoint! It's getting pretty dark currently but, you know, I'm always weak for some good old angst so HIT ME with it coME ON GIVE ME ALL YOU GOT
While the bees get the main focus in the first story, Whiterose follows shortly after and in the end the whole RWBY team dynamic gets the spotlight. This is literally the series that makes me miss my train again and again in the morning because I always want to read the new chapter during breakfast and it's so worth it. Seriously. This is a masterpiece.
2. Golden Leaves by HeiszKetchup (@rwby-gloom)
Yang is an old woman and the only one left of her circle of friends and family. One day, she meets a little girl who struggles with a Semblance quite similar to her own and Yang takes it upon herself to teach the child. What she didn't expect was that the little girl would teach her some important lessons in return, too.
UUUHM OKAY this fic needs a MASSIVE WARNING: because TEARS!!!!!!! TEARS EVERYWHERE!! I'm not exaggerating here – I consider myself a person who doesn't cry often or easily but while reading this I was fucking WAILING. This story is so different from any others I have ever read. It's a combination of grief and happiness, simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming and stays 100% true to each character's personality. The story switches between Yang's past (from days of her childhood up until she and her friends are old and grey) and the present with the cute girl she's teaching. It doesn't confirm any romantic relationships but it depicts platonic love so strong between each of them all, I can't even put into words how absolutely amazing it is written hngggggh!! And the worst part is that it is ridiculously unpopular! This masterpiece needs a boost from here to the fucking SUN
3. Picking Up the Pieces by Etheriell (@lupos-corvidae)
Taking place in a future where Vale isn't the only Kingdom that has fallen, team RWBY is split apart and each of them is struggling with their own minds. Blake is the only one who believes she can find her missing teammates, but even if she does, does it guarantee that they will get along just like in the good old times?
This story is such a masterpiece on so many levels. The plot itself is amazing, with quite a few twists and turns and hardships that have to be overcome, but what stands out is the absolutely incredible portrayal of the many different mental illnesses each of the characters has to face (yes, you might encounter some angst in this context). It is all about recovery and how important it is to have people you trust help you. I love this fic with all my heart.
4. Road to Recovery / Grimm Rats series by FiercesomestDefenestrator (@fiercesomestdefenestrator)
After a fight against Grimm Rats, Weiss has to take care of her injured teammates. This task is difficult by itself but it turns out that the poison from the rats is much more dangerous than everybody first thought.
So. Good. Really. The authors manage to switch between humour and fluff and angst and action flawlessly, so whatever you like most in a fanfic, you will definitely find it in this one. Important: This is actually the second part of a series. Reading the first part (Grimm Rats) is not necessary but it's definitely more than worth it because it's super well-written! Be sure to check out Search and Destroy, set in the same universe sometime after this fic. It's been on hiatus during volume 5 and now it's getting updated again! (yessssssss)
5. Heart of Defiance by battelmage15
After the fall of Beacon and a long time home in Patch, Yang gets thrown into the deserts of Vacuo by her very own mother. There, a stranger teaches her how to correctly use her Semblance. Not only does Yang learn that there is much more behind her powers that she could have ever imagined, she can use her newfound strengths to help her still scattered teammates.
Told in a very intriguing combination of flashbacks and the present time. The overall plot is phenomenal, there is a good amount of fights but also deeper topics iaren't coming too short here. A whole new approach at how Yang handles losing her arm. One might be taken aback at first because an OC plays a major role but it is actually one of the most well-written OCs I've ever encountered. Personally, I usually prefer stories that stick to the original cast but this one is… It just feels natural. Amazing. Definitely worth a read (or two. Or three. Man I love this story).
Acts of Love by momoxtoshiro (@hanasaku-shijin)
A relaxing day turns into a disaster when Weiss and Ruby have to follow an unusual Grimm into a cave full of Dust.
Set in the Henceforward AU created by KumaFromTaiwan, this is one of my favourite Whiterose oneshots!
Burning Out by HeiszKetchup (@rwby-gloom)
Only two chapters, but this story takes a very interesting look at the nature of Yang's Semblance and that it might not be as cool as it seems.
Finding Home by momoxtoshiro (@hanasaku-shijin)
Basically what happened right after Adam chopped Yang's arm off and Blake escaped with her – only that Blake couldn't run due to her injury and instead hid in one of Beacon's classrooms.
The Fire Within by mikotyzini
For a reason completely incomprehensible to her teammates, Blake left team RWBY before their graduation to be with Adam again. She suddenly meets Yang years later and decides to resume a life of being a Huntress. Coming back to a team that has grown without her is harder than expected, though, and Cinder isn’t giving them much time to sort things out the way they’d like.
One of the very first fics I've ever read after joining the fandom and it still is one of my favourites.
The Forest Cabin by momoxtoshiro (@hanasaku-shijin)
During winter, team RWBY is stuck in a forest cabin until an airship can rescue them from a blizzard. Blake is heavily injured, rations are low, it's freezing cold and their scrolls' batteries are almost dead. How are they going to get out of this?
The Foxtrot by SimplyKorra (@weissfuckingschnee)
Many years after having defeated Salem, Blake and Yang finally get married. Weiss is excited for her teammates – until she realizes that her ex-girlfriend Ruby will attend the wedding as well. What follows is an emotional rollercoaster as both girls aren't quite over their breakup yet…
Read and learn, folks. This is how you write a good Whiterose story.
Gold by momoxtoshiro (@hanasaku-shijin)
Sisters Yang and Ruby meet sisters Weiss and Blake on their way to school and the little kids quickly become friends. Over the years, Ruby falls for Weiss and Yang for Blake, but Yang and Blake can't admit their feelings for each other up until college threatens to ultimately separate them.
Wow. A really strong Bumbleby/Whiterose fic. Especially the story arc before they fall in love is so heartwarming and pure. A must-read. Seriously.
Howl by momoxtoshiro (@hanasaku-shijin)
The entire school of Beacon fights one of the mightiest Grimm in the cave of a volcano, but only with little success. As their numbers are dwindling rapidly, team RWBY has to take drastic measures to save the remaining fighters.
Love Is Soundless by x.MyrtenasterRose.x (@myrtenasterrose)
Weiss works in a home for the mentally ill where Ruby has been a patient for the last ten years. Found on the streets, she is selectively mute and tends to avoid people but nobody knows what has happened to her. Weiss is the first person she begins to approach and they eventually learn a lot about each other's lives.
Some cute Whiterose in a rather uncommon but very interestingly written AU. The author is currently rewriting the fic to make it even better, so give the newer one a shot as well!
Make You Love Me by DermatologistTested
Blake once paid a fortune teller to get a look at her future soulmate. Apparently, said soulmate is Yang who goes to the same college as the Faunus. The two try to get to know each other better and better but it's just a big emotional mess (as always).
More Than Meets the Eye by Sachiel21 (@sachiel21)
Blake transfers to a new school and gets partnered with Yang, one of the most popular girls there. After some time spent together, Blake realizes that Yang is more than your typical high school bimbo and that her seemingly perfect life is actually far from perfect.
Never Alone by Etheriell (@lupos-corvidae)
Weiss is able to summon those she has slain. As her teammates are dying in front of her eyes she has to make a tough decision.
The Next Chapter by bakane
This is actually a collection of one-shots and shorter series, but the Tomorrow Makes It Better story is my favourite out of them!
Yang is stuck in a time loop and has to repeat the day before the Beacon dance over and over. With each day that passes, her mental and physical health declines – her time is running out and she has to figure out how to escape this nightmare as soon as possible. (Bumbleby aka how many different versions of Burning the Candle can Yang live through until she goes mad?)
Prove Me Wrong by Sachiel21 (@sachiel21)
Yang and Blake slowly fall for each other until Yang suddenly comes along with a boyfriend. Blake gets jealous and their bond begins to crumble. Can they save the relationship they had established?
This story is just beautiful. I don't have any other words to describe it.
Pseudo Rose by Techno Skittles (@technoskittles)
It's Mother's Day but who can give Ruby her gift to when her mother has died?
Sweet sweet sisterbonding. Oh god my heart.
Pull Yourself Together / Heart of Gold series by AeschylusRex
During a mission in the deserts of Vacuo, Weiss senses some weird tension between her and Ruby. After a sudden sexual night however, Ruby acts as if nothing has happened and Weiss is confused wether it all was just a dream. She gets so distracted by her feelings that she has to quit the mission as she gets injured due to her messed up mental state. Spending her time alone in Atlas, recovering, Weiss isolates herself from everyone, being frustrated and not trusting herself anymore.
Okay, I KNOW that this is one huge ass chapter but trust me, it’s definitely worth the read! This story is the first one of a series and obviously Whiterose-centered, as is the second and third part; for those who prefer Bumbleby the fourth story should exactly be your thing :)
Pyromania by ShowMeYourFury
Fire Dust affects people's minds and turns them insane over time. Having used this particular type of Dust for years in her weapons, Yang now has to run from her friends and family as she has developed two personalities – her usual kindhearted and loving self that, unfortunately, is now mostly overshadowed by a more violent and evil version. Blake tries to help but only time will tell if she can succeed at this sheer impossible task.
Shattered Destiny by momoxtoshiro (@hanasaku-shijin)
Yang has dreams of the night Beacon falls. She sees her friends die and at first doesn't believe her visions – until they threaten to actually become reality. She tries everything to stop the deaths from happening but is it enough to actually change the future?
Side by Side by Kisaramix (@kisaramix)
After her parents' death, Yang moves from one foster family to another while her little sister has been adopted without her. She gets into a lot of trouble on the streets and to prevent her from having to go to jail, the police send her to a family in the countryside as a last resort. Blake is the opposite of amused when her parents inform her about her sudden new roommate…
Surrender by SimplyKorra (@weissfuckingschnee)
After graduating Haven Academy, team RWBY goes to Menagerie to take care of a Grimm that is terrorizing the island. However, their mission isn’t the only problem they are facing...
Classic Whiterose with problematic Bumbleby aka "she doesn't like me back" when clearly, she dOES OMG KISS ALREADY
That Time That Nora Made a Plan (and It Went About As Well As You'd Expect) by Newt
Pyrrha is jet-lagged and RWBY and the rest of JNPR pull an all-nighter with her to set back her inner clock. However, this mission is much harder than first anticipated.
18k words of RWBY and JNPR being goofballs and dorks. What else could you wish for?
Wilting Rose by Shaded122
Ruby hides the fact that she's suffering from an incurable illness so that she can attend Beacon. But she can't hide it forever, the symptoms surfacing eventually and making her daily life quite a struggle.
NO MORE SPOILERS. See for yourself how it turns out. Warning: Tears will be inevitable. This is one of those fics that will completely wreck you. I’m still crying. Help.
That's all, folks! I hope you could find something you liked – if you did, be sure to leave a comment on the respective fics. I'll probably do another post like this when I have some more completed works to recommend – I don't like recommending unfinished stories; I admit that I live in constant fear that they'll get abandoned even if the author is a really reliable uploader. Anyways, have a nice day! I'm already looking forward to volume 6!

Ok so the new episode confirmed (I think) that Tyrell isn't gonna burn his face off thank god but now I'm worried that Darlene might die??? wth was that ending, it felt like a goodbye from her 😭 ..... I just keep thinking someone will die because sam hates us
Yeah I am worried too.
Darlene making a revenge pact with Elliot in case she dies, telling Elliot she will “always be there for him”. Darlene staying in Shayla’s apartment felt ominous. She was looking up flights, and their is a theory that she will die in a plane crash.
I also don’t know what role she has left to play when she no longer has fsociety to lead, she’s not part of the hack, and whiterose has no interest in her. Darlene’s only motivation is helping Elliot and when Elliot finds out she is working for the fbi, she will be alone.
Also her decision to investigate Angela on her own, without any help from the fbi, is probably not going to end well.
Plus, there is no mention of her in the descriptions after episode 5.
So it doesn’t look good for Darlene.
But on the other hand, her death seems too obvious, and this show is usually anything but predictable. Also, as evil as Esmail can be, would he really kill off Elliot’s sister, his only remaining family member?
Perhaps the reason she isn’t mentioned in the next few episode descriptions is simply because she has less screen-time then the other characters, maybe she gets injured or has to lay low for a bit?
I don’t know but I’m trying not to panic too much as this could all just be a red herring.

Masks
RWBY Superhero AU Whiterose
The city of Vale.
A glimmering city of beautiful vistas, well known for its sprawling parks and greenery. While not the technological mecca of it’s sister city, Atlas; it’s not without its modern splendors. More than a few highrises dotted the skyline of Vale.
One thing Vale had that Atlas didn’t; and as far as they were concerned Vale could keep, was Cinder.
A villainous woman with the power to summon pitch black monsters with white masks and glowing red eyes known as Grimm. She was far from the only villain to plague Vale, but was indeed the most prolific. The violent faunus gang known as the White Fang and their leader, Adam Taurus certainly tried to give her a run for her money.
Luckily for Vale, they had something else no one else had. Heroes.
Glass shattered, drowning out the screaming of panicking people as a pair of Beowolf grimm crashed through the windows of the 23rd floor of Schnee Energy.
Board members tripped over themselves and each other as they backpedaled away from the looming beasts.
Chairwoman Weiss Schnee jumped to her feet in surprise, turning to face the approaching beasts, surprise morphing into a sneer.
“Cinder,” She growled under her breath as the lithe woman sauntered into the room, flanked by the Grimm.
“Good afternoon, gentlemen.” Cinder smirked, glowing amber eyes casually looking over the rooms other occupants before stopping at Weiss. “Miss Schnee.”
“What do you want?” Weiss glared defiantly at the criminal, even as a single bead of sweat rolled down the back of her neck and her muscles tensed.
Cinder deigned not to answer, instead merely snapped her fingers and one of the beasts lumbered forward, and snatched up the metal case sitting on Weiss’s desk.
“Just needed to pick something up.” Cinder smirked.
Despite common sense telling her not to, the sight of the case in the beast's hands spurred Weiss into movement.
“No!” She took only a step before the second Beowolf lunged, knocking Weiss to the ground, its weight pressing into her painfully. Bloody soulless eyes boring into her frightened blue ones as it snapped its fang lined jaws in her face.
“I got what I came for, you should have stood aside.” She held up her hand, ready to snap her fingers and let the Beowolf rip out Weiss’s throat.
Shing
The Beowolf holding the case dropped to the ground, cut neatly in half and already dissipating into black smoke.
Cinder jumped back, scowling at the red cloaked figure now standing across from her, a large imposing scythe drawn back, grimm ichor still dripping from it’s blade.
The second grimm abandoned Weiss to lunge at the new hooded figure only to be ducked under and in one spin cut neatly into two chunks of smoking carcass.
Her view no longer obstructed by the hulking black beast, Weiss of course recognizes the hooded figure from the news and papers, though never before in person. The black jeans and shirt were by far the least notable thing about the new arrival. A hooded cloak the color of fresh blood and a metal wolf mask peeking out from under said hood were the standouts.
“The Red Wolf,” Weiss muttered.
Amber eyes glanced down at the case only for a red and black boot to step on it possessively.
“Don’t you ever take a break?” Cinder snarled as she pulled out a pair of short blades and charged.
A swift kick sent the box skittering across the ground and straight into Weiss’s hands.
“Get out of here!” Red Wolf ordered as blades clashed.
Weiss hesitated only a moment before running for the door, the other board members having taken their leave already.
“Damnit!” Cinder cursed turning to give chase only to be forced back as she blocked another strike from the oncoming scythe.
“Not so fast Cinder.” Red growled as she flashed forward, scattering rose petals as she spun around, using the momentum to deliver a powerful slash, flinging Cinder out the 23rd floor window from which she’d come.
Wasting no time she jumped out the window and followed, twisting the massive weapon around in front of her and firing 3 quick shots, each was deflected but had the desired effect of greatly slowing her fall.
She could now see the four black beasts waiting for them on the ground.
Making small jumps off the building to slow herself Cinder kicked off the wall, landing in a roll and running down the street as two of the beasts jumped to meet the hooded hero.
A boot to one snout propelled her back up enough to swing the blade around and pop a hole into both monsters heads.
The second she touched the asphalt the other two were charging. A quick spin turned both beats to ribbon.
A quick glance around confirmed that Cinder was gone.
“Shit.” She mumbled to herself. She could now hear the sirens in the distance getting closer. That was her cue. With a flick of her wrist the scythe folded up and was stowed beneath the cloak.
Glancing back at the company headquarters she saw the young chairwoman and CEO she’d just saved staring at her intently from inside the lobby, clutching the metal case Cinder had wanted to her chest.
Those blue eyes stared so intently it made her a little nervous. Unsure she held up her hand and gave a little wave.
Searching blue eyes widened in apparent shock.
Unsure what else to do with herself she shot off, leaving a shocked CEO and a cloud of rose petals in her wake.
Running through the back alleys of Vale allowed the hero to shake anyone who might have had any big ideas and let her zip right up the wall to her apartments open window.
“Phew!” Pulling off her mask Ruby Rose let out a breath. What a day. She pulled off her cloak and unclipped Crescent Rose from her belt, securing everything in it’s place before walking out of her room to find her sister, lounging on her couch and watching the tv.
“Yang! What are you doing here?”
“Nice to see you too.” The blonde quipped with a grin. “Busy day?” She asked nodding to the tv, where a live broadcast was already playing about the incident at Schnee Energy.
“...thwarted by Vale’s very own Red Wolf.” The anchor recapped the events.
“What is that, the third time this week? Don’t the baddies have day jobs, or do they just sit around a dark room cackling to themselves all day and menacingly petting cats?” Yang wondered, tossing the remote aside.
“Who knows,” Ruby flopped onto the sofa next to the blonde with a sigh. Yang wrapped a thickly muscled arm around her shoulders and gave what she must have imagined to be a comforting squeeze but was a death grip to the smaller woman.
“Urgh! Yang, please.” She wheezed. The blonde just grinned but lessened her grip nonetheless. “If you kill me I can’t go on patrol tonight.” She ducked out of the hug to lean back against the sofa cushion.
“Fine, go, be the hero we need but don’t deserve.” She chuckled to herself.
“I am not Batman.” Ruby grumbled, giving her sister a slight kick without opening her eyes..
“Well duh, Batman is made up, you’ve stopped more real criminals than he ever has. Can’t say I don’t wish you were a millionaire philanthropist though.” She said making Ruby giggle.
“You and me both. Saving innocent people is it’s own reward but it’s not the best paying job.” Ruby agreed, pushing herself off the couch and walking into her tiny kitchen and poured herself a glass of water. Yang hit the power on the tv and tossed the remote back on the coffee table before following her sister.
“Still got a while before you gotta go on patrol right?” Yang asked, leaning across the tiny island counter.
Ruby nodded around a mouthful of water.
“Let’s go get burgers, my treat.” She offered, her metal hand scraping on the counter as she pushed herself up.
“I dunno, Yang I…” A cold metal finger was pressed against her lips.
“No arguing, get in my car and let’s go.” Yang ordered, mouth set into a serious line but her lilac eyes showed her obvious amusement.
“Alright.” Ruby agreed with a wide smile.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ruby sat hunched over the edge of one of Vale’s high rises, the wind picked at her cloak, sending the ends fluttering in the breeze.
Everything seemed pretty quiet on the brightly lit street many stories below her, at least, as quiet as it ever really got in a busy city like Vale. The sounds of traffic and night life rose up to her ears, the occasional horn or angry yelling brought on by road rage.
She’d been doing this long enough to discern the difference between angry driver and people being chased by Grimm.
While she was paying attention to the going ons below her mind was drifting to a certain blue eyed CEO.
She was… really pretty. Ruby blushed beneath her mask.
“You’re awfully quiet for a change.” A voice cut through the relative quiet. Ruby jumped, whipping around to find a tall woman with long ebony hair, wearing tight black clothes and a mask over her glowing golden eyes. A pair black cat ears twitched at the sounds of the city.
“Nightshade, I hate it when you do that.” She sighed, muscles untensing.
Without a sound the other heroine sat next to her on the roofs edge.
“It’s all been pretty quiet tonight.” Nightshade observed. Ruby nodded at the observation.
Nightshade hummed quietly, observing her usually more exuberant colleague.
“I heard about Cinder attacking Schnee Energy, everything go alright?” She asked, trying to surmise her friends unusual quietness, it wasn’t easy to read someone when their face was covered by a full mask.
“She got away, but I stopped her from getting whatever she wanted and hurting anyone so it's, ya know.” She shrugged pausing for a second to consider her next words. “What do you know about Schnee Energy’s CEO?”
Nightshade’s ears twitched curiously.
“Weiss Schnee, third head of the Schnee Energy Corporation, her father was well documented for his morally contemptible business practices and controversial labor forces in the form of what nearly constituted enslaved faunus workers.” She recited. Behind her mask Ruby blinked owlishly at the information.
“Things have improved exponentially under Weiss, not just in her own business but with her influence, across the industry as a whole.” She finished, looking at Ruby.
“Um, that’s all good to know, but I guess I was looking for something a little more, personal? Like, is she nice?” It sounded kind of dumb after it had left her mouth, though Nightshade chuckled quietly.
“Public opinion says she’s rather...standoffish but never unfair or excessively rude. I’ve heard she can be quite kind in the right situation. Why the sudden interest, did you run into her at the company today?”
“Yeah, for a second. She was… watching me.”
“I don’t know if you noticed, Red, but a lot of people watch you.” She chuckled. Ruby huffed beneath her mask.
“Yeah, I know, this was different…” She mumbled. “It was, intense? I dunno, it's not important.” She hopped up and stretched. Golden eyes watched her intently. “Welp, doesn’t seem anything is going on tonight, so I’m gonna go get some sleep. See ya later, Night.”
“Be safe.” Were the dark woman’s parting words before her crimson counterpart disappeared over the side of the building.
Once she was sure she was well and truly alone she pulled her phone from the pouch at her hip and scrolled through her contacts before hitting call, despite her phone's clock telling her it was half past eleven.
“I’m working, what is it, Blake?” The voice on the other end answered without so much as a hello.
“Good evening to you as well, Weiss. I was just checking up on you, I heard about the attack.” She explained. An annoyed grunt followed the statement.
“You and everyone else. I’ve been fielding calls from reporters and news stations all day, and worst yet, my father.” She grumbled.
“I’m sure that was fun…”
“Be glad it was your day off.”
“On a lighter note, what did you think of The Red Wolf?” Blake asked casually.
The Businesswoman was oddly quiet, if not for the quiet breathing coming from her speaker Blake would have thought she’d hung up.
“She was interesting.” Weiss finally answered, to which Blake couldn’t help but smirk, Weiss displaying anything other than indifference or hate toward someone? Unheard of, with a handful of exceptions of course.
“She ran off so fast I didn’t even have a chance to thank her for her help.” The CEO grouched to herself but Blake heard the low mumbling. She hummed thoughtfully and smiled to herself.
“I have an idea.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite baby sister.” Yang grinned from behind the bar as Ruby walked into the pub.
“I’m your only sister.” she reminded, rolling her eyes and throwing herself up onto an empty barstool and setting her mail bag at her feet.
“You finished your route for the day already?” Yang cocked a brow. “You didn’t put any extra...oomph in it did you?” The blonde asked accusingly, she’d always worried about Ruby using her powers and getting exposed to the world.
“Of course I did. I risked my whole life just to deliver mail.” She stuck her tongue out just for Yang to flick her forehead before filling a pint glass with strawberry ale and sliding it to her sister.
“Speaking of...” Yang started turning to the big screen over the bar. “The CEO of Schnee Energy had a press conference this morning about what happened yesterday and some big banquet they’re throwing, I recorded it for you”
“Okay?” Ruby blinked, taking a sip of her drink.
“Listen to this.” Yang hit play on a paused recording.
“...In light of this, Schnee energy would like to extend an invitation to Friday night's gala to the Red Wolf…” Weiss spoke into the microphone.
Ruby sprayed the bar top with ale while Yang grinned from ear to ear.
“What!?” She looked around wildly, whispering when she turned back to Yang. “I don’t want to attend some fancy party!” She hissed.
“I don’t think you have much choice, to not show up would make you and Schnee Energy look bad, and I get the feeling they're not people you want to be on the bad side of.” Yang wiped the spray off the bar with a frown, she’d just cleaned that.
“What would I even do? What would I wear? A fancy dress and my mask?” She hissed. Yang shrugged but was grinning wildly, clearly enjoying her sisters new problem.
“But… but… I’ll just make a fool of myself at that thing.” Ruby moaned, dropping her head to the counter.
“ Come on Rubes, it won't be all that bad, it might actually be fun.” Yang ruffled the other woman's hair encouragingly.
“Oh yeah. Me, stuck in a room full of the richest people in all of Vale, how could that not go wrong?”
“Probably Atlas too, since that’s where the Schnee’s are from.” Yang supplied helpfully.
“Ughhh,” Ruby's head dropped back to the wood with a quiet thump. “Why me? All I do is serve and protect this city from monsters and evil doers, I don’t deserve this, why am I being punished?!” She whined.
Yang rolled her eyes at her sister's groaning. Trust Ruby to view an invitation to the most exclusive party in all of Vale as some form of divine punishment.
“Don’t worry, Rubes. After work I’ll go with ya and we’ll find you something to wear.” The blonde promised.
Ruby groaned pitifully but turned her silver eyes up to look at Yang.
“Thanks, Yang.” Her small smile spoke volumes to the bartender.
“What are big sisters for?” She grinned.
After Yang’s shift ended Ruby found herself lost in a sea of dress racks, but only before being shoved into a dressing room with dress after dress.
A few she outright refused, there neckline dropping somewhere around her navel.
“I can’t wear this Yang!” Ruby’s muffled cry came through the door.
“It’s cute!’ The blonde bartender defended her choice.
“It has no back!” Ruby yelled.
“It does... just, not much, besides, you're going to be wearing your you know what. No one will even see the back.”
Ruby was strangely quiet. Yang had a point, she was going to be wearing her cloak and mask, so no one one would even see her back. Unless she wanted them to, and she definitely did not.
She silently slipped on the dress before stepping out of the dressing room for her sister's opinion.
“Well?” Ruby held her arms out, letting her sister inspect her.
“Hmm,” Yang hummed thoughtfully.
The dress was black and stopped just above Ruby’s knees. Just as she said the back, or lack thereof was very low, stopping just below her waistline, the neckline not nearly as deep as the other dresses, though still a little deeper than anything Ruby was used to wearing and sheer black lace covered her arms from shoulder to wrist.
The lack of back covering revealed her usually hidden tattoo on her right shoulder of a circle of roses around the silhouette of a wolf head.
Yang let out a low whistle.
“Not bad, sis, not bad at all. Paired with the red ‘you know what’ and everyone will be looking at you.” She nodded to herself, pleased with her ability to pick dresses.
“Yang, I could wear a paper sack and people would still stare at me.” Ruby reminded.
“True, but now they're not going to just be looking at you because of that. There going to look at you and think, ‘Man, the Red Wolf has a poppin’ body!’ ” Yang whispered the last part making her sister's face go hot.
“Shut up!” She shoved the cackling woman away. “I don’t want people thinking… that!” She rumbled.
“Not even one person?” Yang wheedled, nudging her sister in the shoulder.
“Maybe, one person… someday.” She allowed, looking down at her socked feet. Yang wrapped her arm around her shoulders and gave her a squeeze.
“Hey, before you know it you'll meet someone who can see how awesome you are, and not just for the mask, but for who you are behind it, trust me.”
“I know, I know...” She grumbled, disappearing back into the dressing room.
“So, all we need now is some shoes.” Yang chuckled to herself when her sisters groan hit her ears through the dressing room door.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ruby inspected herself in the mirror dressed in all but her mask. The red and black was part of her signature; well, along with the wolf mask of course. She actually looked pretty good if she said so herself.
The only thing she had added to the dress was a piece of thick black fabric, tied around her waist to hold Crescent Rose in it’s place on her back. It was the same shade as the dress so it blended in almost unnoticeable.
She never went anywhere in the mask without her baby. She attracted to much attention.
The party was supposed to start at 8. She glanced at her alarm clock. 8:45; that should be fashionably late enough.
“Well, I guess i’m ready.” She took a deep, steadying breath before turning off her bedroom light and tieing her mask into place before silently slipping out her bedroom window to the empty alley below.
In a burst of speed she ran through the twisting back alleys until she deemed it a safe enough distance from her apartment to take a running leap onto the nearest building’s roof.
A quick survey of the busy city told her everything was running as it should before she took off, running and leaping from one rooftop to the next, crossing the city in bounds.
She lived in a pretty decent part of Vale, but the Schnee Energy banquet was being held in a very fancy hotel on the other side of town that Ruby had only ever driven past before.
The Diamond Ballroom was used as a venue for things like out of town dignitaries or parties thrown by the governor
Great, she was making herself nervous again. She really didn’t want to do this. Ruby didn’t get much out of her caped crusades other than a feeling of accomplishment and knowing that she did all she could to help those in need.
She at least got respect, people liked her, in all modesty, admired her a bit, even as others thought her a fool.
As the saying goes, it was better to let them assume you’re a fool than open your mouth and prove it.
She had the overwhelming fear that she attending this party was going to lead to her proving it. Not a person there wouldn’t be able to tell she was out of her element.
She sighed, dropping onto the roof of a building and walking to its edge. Across the street from the building she stood on, spotlights lighting up the exterior, was the Diamond Ballroom.
“Alright. You can do this!” She nodded to herself and dropped off the roof, her shoes landing with a quiet smack on the pavement below.
She zipped across the street to the entrance of the diamond ballroom, standing outside the doors she straightened her cloak and gave herself a nod.
“Alright Ruby, show ‘em what you got.” She pushed open the doors and walked into the lobby. More than a few people were walking around the lobby and nearly all of them turned to gape at her when she walked into the room.
“Starting out great.” She mumbled to herself.
“Ma'am?”
She turned to her left to find the doorman staring at her wide eyed.
“The Schnee Energy banquet is on the top floor.” He pointed toward the elevators.
“Thanks” She nodded, starting in that direction. Everyone stopped to gawk as she passed. Never in her whole life had she been as thankful for the cloak and mask as she was right now. It was all that stood between her and all the prying eyes and though it wasn't much, it was something.
She stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the 20th floor and then nearly broke the close doors button as she rapidly slammed her finger into it, desperate to get it moving before someone decided an elevator would be the best place to corner her for a moment alone.
Thankfully no one seemed brave enough and the doors dinged before sliding closed and leaving her alone, if only for a moment.
With rising anxiety she watched the number of floors grow steadily higher from behind her mask.
She was being ridiculous, she knew that of course, not that it helped, the prevailing thought that she wouldn’t have to stay very long did though. Go in...mingle? Talk to Weiss, leave.
The second part of that plan did give her pause.
That was why she was here, the CEO had invited her, for whatever reasons Ruby could only guess at, but she’d know before the night was over.
Maybe she needed help? Cinder was after something at the company building and she didn’t stop till she got what she wanted.
The quiet ding of the elevator startled her out of her thoughts. The doors slid open to a large open ballroom filled with the most elegantly dressed people she’d ever seen.
“Oh boy.” She breathed.
Across the room, dressed in an elegant off white A-line dress with blue detailing that hung just below her knees, Schnee Energy’s CEO was caught in a long and dry conversation with one of her family’s business associates.
“The budget is coming along but it may be a while yet before the board can come to a consensus about anything.” The older man standing across from Weiss shook his head in exasperation.
She nodded, only half paying attention to the man in front of her. This banquet was for charity, a chance for the elite of Vale and some of the other large cities, to raise funds for the city's impoverished; though honestly those attending used the chance to further their own agendas.
Not that she could claim innocence to that, having used the opportunity, at her best friend's behest; to meet and thank the Red Wolf in person for saving her and a very important asset to her company.
However, less than an hour into the evening and her patience was wearing dangerously thin.
Everyone and there mother had approached Weiss, making propositions to her for all number of things, partnerships to collaborations to subtly asking her to fund their projects.
It was grating and the Wolf had yet to show.
Weiss spotted Blake's bow topped head making her way over and excused herself, meeting her friend halfway.
Blake knew right away by the tightness of her jaw and the slight jump in her cheek that Weiss was nearing capacity.
“How’s it going?” She asked, trying to keep the amusement out of her voice for her friends sake.
“Splendid”
The deadpan expression did make Blake smirk, which only made Weiss’s frown deepen.
A flash of red over Weiss’s shoulder caught Blake's gaze and made her smile.
“Well, it seems like one thing at the very least will go your way tonight.” She nodded toward the front of the room.
Weiss turned to look and was greatly pleased to see Vales favorite cloaked hero wandering into the ballroom.
Gone were the ragged black jeans, faded t-shirt and combat boots to be replaced with a modest black dress revealing the Red Wolf truly was the woman her voice implied.
She was still wearing the red cloak and mask, but Weiss had expected nothing less.
Weiss took one step before Blake’s hand on her shoulder stopped her. Weiss blinked, looking at the other woman expectantly.
“Not to tell you how to conduct yourself, Weiss, but maybe when you go over there you should…” Blake hesitated.
“Should what?” Weiss frowned.
“Reel it back a little?” She suggested.
Predictably the CEO looked more than a little affronted. Blake held up a hand for her to stop before she even got going.
“You’re going to scare her.” She explained
“She’s a superhero.” Weiss argued.
“She’s a person.” Blake retorted, nodding to the hero on the other side of the room. “Look”
Across the room the Wolf had snagged a glass of champagne and held it in both her her hands, shoulders slightly hunched as people began to crowd around her, oblivious to her discomfort.
“She’s completely out of her element. That body language says she’s scared; or rather, very nervous” Blake explained.
Weiss watched the cloaked hero carefully, she spoke to the guests squeezing in close to her but not once did her bunched up shoulders relax and she clenched the glass in her hand like a lifeline.
Weiss cursed to herself under her breath, icy gaze turning back to Blake.
“Your ability to read body language so thoroughly is freakish, you know that?” The CEO huffed.
“It’s served you quite well in the past.” The faunus reminded. Weiss hummed in acknowledgment before straightening her shoulders and walked across the room to her special guest. The steely look in her eyes stalled any who would have stopped her to talk.
“Excuse me, ladies, gentleman; but I must speak to our special guest in private.” Weiss politely bullied her way through the throng of people that had gathered around the Red Wolf.
Ruby was so busy trying to field questions that she didn’t notice the young CEO pushing her way through the crowd until she was leading her away by the elbow. She blinked owlishly behind her mask as Weiss tugged her along past the gawking people and toward the open balcony doors.
Blake, watching from across the room slapped her palm across her eyes, her ears trying to flatten inside her bow.
‘Ugh, Weiss.’ She groaned. ‘What part of that is at all reeled back?’ The dark hero thought to herself.
“If you don’t assert yourself they’ll walk all over you.” Weiss informed her as they stepped out into the relative privacy of the balcony, the breeze picked up her hair and made Ruby’s cloak flutter.
“Thank you, Miss Schnee.” Ruby managed, trying to remember her manners in front of her host. Weiss sniffed in reply.
“Weiss will be fine and the irony is that I invited you here so that I could thank you.” Weiss said, looking into a pair of silver colored eyes through the eyes of the wolf mask. How unusual.
“The case that Cinder tried to take was more important than you could imagine and I feel indebted to you for saving it, along with my life of course and a Schnee never leaves their debts unpaid.” Weiss held her hands behind her back.
Ruby listened, dumbfounded.
“That being said, you can ask me for anything you like as repayment for what you did.” Weiss finished her definitely not practiced speech and waited for a response.
“Oh” was all Ruby finally managed to say after a beat of silence. “Well, thank you, Weiss, but it’s not necessary.” She said to the now slightly confused looking businesswoman.
“Perhaps I was to indirect..” Weiss cleared her throat. “I would like to offer you a monetary reward…”
A quiet giggle gave Weiss pause.
“No, I understood, I don’t need anything from you, Weiss. I appreciate the thought, really.” She tried to be gracious in her decline, something that only made Weiss all the more confused by the masked woman.
“Helping people has always been reward enough for me, I’m just glad I was able to help you.” Ruby smiled behind her mask.
Weiss was quiet, suddenly struck by the humility of the masked stranger in front of her. All anyone wanted from the CEO was money, or the path to money, here she was offering it, only to be turned down?
This was new.
“If you don’t mind me asking though, what was in the case Cinder wanted?” Ruby had wondered what could be so important that Cinder would go after it in broad daylight.
Weiss straightened up, coming back to herself.
“That is classified Schnee Energy information.” She recited, but paused. “Why?”
“I just figured if I knew what it was Cinder wanted I could figure out why she wanted it.” Ruby shrugged. “But I understand.” She finished quickly holding up her hands.
“You realize…” Weiss started slowly, stepping closer to the hero. “If I tell you, it must absolutely be kept a secret.”
Ruby couldn’t stop the laugh that pushed past her lips, had she not been so close, she would have missed the way the CEO’s cheeks darkened.
“Sorry, I’m sorry.” She said, laughter dying into a chuckle and finally a grin. “I think I can keep a secret.” She whispered.
Weiss’s cheeks were on fire and she could practically hear the grin in the other woman’s voice.
“The case…” She began, voice low. “Contains a new form of propellant we’ve developed. Liquid dust.” Weiss said.
“Liquid dust?” Ruby repeated, mind already kicking into high gear. “Liquid dust could revolutionize the industry, it could be used in machines and devices that even powdered dust is to coarse for.” She quickly realized.
Weiss looked impressed by the quick deduction.
Maybe Ruby wasn’t a ‘batman’ level detective, but she was a certified mechanical genius.
“It will, when we finish working out the kinks. My development team and I have spent hundreds of hours working on it, though there seem to be many more to go before it’s ready.” Weiss frowned.
“You helped create it yourself?” Ruby’s eyes were wide in surprise beneath the mask.
“Indeed I did. I went to school for chemistry as well as business.” She smiled proudly.
“Wow, you must be super smart.” Ruby was in such awe she didn’t notice the CEO getting flustered.
“Why isn’t it out yet?” She questioned.
“It’s still experimental and incredibly volatile, we can’t yet, in good conscious release it, even for industrial purposes.” Weiss frowned.
“But why would Cinder want liquid dust?” Ruby scratched her chin beneath her mask, now thinking aloud to herself. “As far as I’ve gathered all she’s ever wanted to do is destroy everything, and as far as explosive things goes, there’s stuff way easier to get than experimental liquid dust.” She mumbled.
“It would be worth a fortune on the black market.” Weiss suggested.
Ruby hummed. Cinder had never seemed all that interested in money, but she was an opportunist, it was always possible.
“I’ll have to think about it...well, anyway, thanks Weiss, for inviting me.” Ruby turned fully toward her host.
“You’re leaving?” Her question was answered with a nod, hopping up onto the balcony railing, an impressive feat in heels, the wind picking at her famous red cloak.
“I...I really don’t wanna go back in there.” She nodded back to the party with a nervous chuckle and Weiss couldn’t say she blamed her.
“I still owe you a debt.” Weiss reminded before she could leap off into the night.
“You don’t...”
“I do!” Weiss insisted, cutting her off. “A Schnee never leaves their debts unpaid.”
“Oh, well...maybe next time I’m in the area you could buy me lunch or something?” The words were flying out of her mouth before she stopped to think about them.
Weiss seemed just as surprised as Ruby felt by the words for a moment before she was again the picture of poised and collected.
“I hope to see you soon then.” She said simply.
Ruby gave a nod, unsure what else to say before jumping off the railing, but not before a hard breeze sent her cloak billowing to the side, giving Weiss an eye full of her tanned, bare back.
Unblemished, save for the black and red tattoo of a wolf head in a ring of roses on her right shoulder.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
It was two weeks before Ruby was near the Schnee Energy Company, on a patrol around noon, after she’d asked Nightshade to find out when Weiss ate lunch.
The other hero seemed oddly amused by the request but had complied, after Ruby had agreed to a favor to be named later. That worried her a little, but not enough that she hadn’t readily agreed.
She really wanted to see Weiss.
The wealthy businesswoman seemed so smart and savvy.
She was more than a little pretty, too, with her long white hair and crystal clear blue eyes. The mysterious little scar over her left eye made Ruby curious.
The thoughts sent butterflies through her stomach.
Now here she was, running at max speed through the lobby of Schnee energy so that no one would see her as she sped up the stairs to the 30th floor, Weiss’s office.
Now standing in front of the large wooden doors she swallowed and steeled her nerves as she knocked.
The door was opened by a dark haired woman with a bow in her hair.
Her wide amber eyes blinked as she stared back at Ruby.
“Weiss, it’s for you.” She stepped aside, revealing Weiss, sitting hunched over her desk.
She glanced up only to jump out of her chair when she realized who was standing in her door.
“Red Wolf…” She greeted.
“Hey, and uh, just ‘Red’ is fine.” She said.
“Red, this my friend and assistant, Blake Belladonna.” Weiss introduced.
Ruby offered a hand, which Blake shook.
Something about the tall dark haired woman seemed so familiar to Ruby, but she couldn’t place it.
“Can we help you with something?” Blake asked curiously, fully understanding and ignoring Red’s quizzical stare.
“She’s here to have lunch with me.” Weiss stated as though commenting on the weather.
Blake’s eyebrows shot up into her hairline. That was not what she had expected when Red had asked her about Weiss’s lunch schedule
“Ahh…” Was all Blake could manage.
“Is there anything in particular you want?” Weiss asked.
“Oh um… I like chinese?” it came out more of a question than a statement.
Blake chuckled, glancing at Weiss knowingly.
“Weiss should be well prepared than.” The assistant smirked as Weiss scowled in turn. Ruby just glanced between the two, confused until Weiss pulled a chinese take out menu from her desk drawer, obviously a frequent orderer.
“You may take your lunch, Blake.” Weiss nearly hissed, much to Blake’s amusement. She nodded and made her exit.
“You have your own balcony up here?” Ruby asked, wondering over to the glass door, blended into the windows around it.
“I work outside when the weather permits. Would you like to have lunch on the balcony?”
“Sure!” Ruby walked out the door and plopped herself onto one of the two chairs around the small metal table.
Weiss followed behind with the menu she’d pulled from her desk and set it on the table in front of her.
Ruby picked up the yellow and orange colored menu.
“The Sunny Dragon!” Ruby nearly yelped.
Of all the food places in Vale, Weiss was a fan of her dad's restaurant? It really was a small world after all.
“Do you know it?” Weiss asked, looking up from some papers she’d brought outside with her.
Again, glad for her mask, Ruby nodded.
“Ah, yeah, I go there often, actually.” Not a lie. She and Yang went to the restaurant all the time, though usually to help him out rather than eat. His food was great though.
Ruby already knew what she was going to order but made a small production of flipping through the menu anyway.
“Decided? Weiss asked.
“Yeah”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
‘Oh, sweet Lo Mein’ Ruby thought giddily as she opened the take out box.
Mindful of Weiss, she pulled her hood down to help cover her face as she pushed her mask up to her nose, just enough to see what she was eating, as well as eat it, without exposing herself.
Weiss couldn’t help but watch as Red pulled up her mask but all that was exposed was her mouth.
They ate in relative silence save for Ruby’s delighted hums. It was endearing, in a way.
This was rather surreal to Weiss.
Just three weeks prior she had only heard of the Red Wolf on the news or in the papers, now she was sitting across from her eating chinese take out.
“You know..” Red started, startling Weiss out of her thoughts. “The more I think about it, the more ideas I come up with for practical uses for your liquid dust.” She said.
“Oh?” Weiss cocked a brow, an amused smile on her lips. With the mask pushed up over her eyes Red couldn’t see it and nodded.
The smile on Weiss’s lips faded into a thoughtful expression as Red listed off some of the ideas and thoughts she’d had over the last two weeks.
Some she’d thought of herself but some of the Heroine’s ideas Weiss hadn’t even considered till now and her mind was already racing with ideas on how to implement them once they’d fixed their problems with the dust.
Before she knew it she was lost in deep conversation about the mechanical application of dust with Red.
She didn’t seem too know too much about the alchemic side of things but her knowledge of the mechanical more than made up for it.
Before anyone knew it, two hours had sped by.
“But the liquid ice dust could double as a coolant to keep it from overheating!” Red argued.
Before Weiss could say anything her office door opened and Blake stepped inside.
She was surprised to see Red still sitting across from Weiss on the balcony.
“I hate to interrupt, Weiss, but you have a meeting in fifteen minutes.” Blake reminded stepping outside.
“My meeting isn’t until three.” Weiss corrected, to which Blake merely cocked a brow, prompting Weiss to look at her watch and sure enough it was a quarter till.
“Ah, yes, thank you, Blake.” She cleared her throat.
“I’m sorry” Red jumped up. “I didn’t mean to keep you so long.” She apologized. She always got carried away when talking about mechanics, especially with someone like Weiss, who actually knew what they were talking about instead of nodding along while she blathered.
“Don’t be.” Weiss reassured her, standing up and walking around her desk. “Your ideas could help the revolution of dust, it’s given me a lot to think about for the application of the dust once we’ve worked everything out.”
“I’m sure you woulda’ figured it out yourself.” Ruby felt the heat from her cheeks in the mask at the compliment.
Again Weiss was struck by the woman’s modest nature.
“I should go. Thanks for lunch, Weiss.” Without another word she flung herself over the railing.
Blake and Weiss watched as she zipped across the buildings before disappearing.
Weiss turned to find her friend watching her with an amused smirk.
“What?” She scowled.
“Nothing.” Blake chuckled, walking back inside.
Ruby quickly made her way home to change out of her disguise and walked the three blocks to Yang’s bar.
“Hey sis. Usual?” Yang asked even as she was already popping the cap of the strawberry ale.
“Thanks, Yang.”
“What’s got you grinning?’ Yang asked, as Ruby quietly sipped on her drink at the end of the bar, a smile never leaving her lips.
“I had lunch with Weiss today.” She told the blonde quietly.
“Really? I remember you telling me about how you practically asked her out…”
“I did not!”
“But I didn’t think you’d ever actually go back.” Yang continued as though Ruby hadn’t said a thing.
“She wanted to repay me, it would have been rude not to.” Ruby grumbled, staring down at her drink. Yang could see her pink face.
“Oh!” Yang realized, voice filled with awe.
“What?” Ruby asked warily, seeing the delight on Yang’s face.
“Bless your gay little heart.” She drawled in her version of a thick southern accent. “You like her.”
“I do not! I mean, I do, but not like that.” the pink turned dark red. Even she knew how unconvincing that sounded.
“Wow, sis. No wonder you haven’t dated in so long, you have some rich and lofty standards.” The blonde was grinning from ear to ear.
“I’m leaving.” Ruby hopped off her stool.
“Aww, come on!” Yang ran around the bar to catch up to her pouting sister.
“No, leave me alone!” Ruby ran through the bar with Yang right behind her, arms outstretched for a bear hug.

“Faster, Neo!”
“He’s getting away!’ Nightshade yelled over the sound of traffic as they chased down the speeding white cadillac with a back seat full of cash.
The flickering overhead streetlights kept Torchwick’s car in view
“No he’s not!” Ruby called back, firing up her powers and flying across the roofs of the cars between them and Roman Torchwick’s getaway car.
A flick of her wrist unfurled her scythe and with a jump she embedded it’s blade deep in the the metal of the trunk, making the car swerve wildly.
“You never give up do ya, Red.” Roman growled, turning around in the passenger seat to take aim at the masked heroine.
A shot rang out.
“Damn it!” Roman yelled as the gun flew from his hand.
From the roof of a truck three cars back golden glowing eyes were staring down the barrel of a gun.
Nightshades ability to see in the dark had just saved her hide.
Without missing a beat Ruby spun around, delivering a swift kick to Roman’s head. He fell back in the seat, out cold.
Up ahead flashing lights signaled where the police had set up their barrier.
Spinning the scythe around and pointing the barrel at Neo, Ruby gave her a silent choice. With a silent sigh and a frown the brown and pink haired woman gave a nod.
The car slowed to a stop just ahead of the barrier.
Once the police had collected both criminals and the money both Nightshade and herself vanished into the dark.
“Phew!” Ruby breathed as they found a quiet spot atop an office building. “That was a really good shot, thanks.” She turned to her dark colleague.
“Don’t mention it. Seems like that’s all the excitement for tonight.” She said surveying the city below.
“Yeah it’s...quiet..” She trailed off.
Looking over at Red she saw the woman looking at the Schnee energy building two blocks over.
All the windows were dark save for a single light on the 30th floor.
“Damn it Weiss. I told you to go home hours ago.” Blake thought to herself with a frown, knowing her friend was burning the midnight oil.
It had been a few days since she’d had lunch with Weiss and she was looking for an excuse to see the CEO again.
This seemed like an ideal opportunity. Pop in to check on her.
Keeping people safe and all that. She groaned internally at her own sad excuse.
“Good work tonight, Nightshade, I should get going though. See ya around.” She dropped off the building and out of sight. At least, most people’s sight.
Blake smirked to herself as she slid behind an AC unit out of sight. After a minute She watched Red slip onto Weiss’s balcony.
Weiss sighed, rubbing her eyes. Just a few more papers and she could call it quits.
A knock on the glass made her nearly jump out of her skin.
Whipping toward the noise she let out a breath of relief seeing the Red Wolf standing on her balcony and waving.
Collecting herself she walked over and opened the door, allowing Red to step inside.
“Hey, Weiss...I hope I didn’t scare you…”
“No...it’s fine. Can I help you with something?
“Oh, uh, no, I was nearby stopping a robbery with Nightshade and saw the light on, so I thought I’d… check on you?” She finished lamely.
“Checking on me?” Weiss was staring back at her almost amused as she sat back at her desk.
“Yea...well, it’s 9:30 on a Thursday night, kinda late to be working still.” She reasoned.
“I could say the same thing to you.” Weiss countered.
“Crime never sleeps, Weiss.” Ruby smiled behind her mask.
Weiss knew she was smiling by the lilt in her voice.
“Neither do investors.” she motioned to the papers stacked on her desk. Ruby chuckled as she took a seat in front of Weiss’s desk.
“You probably should, though.” Ruby said, smiling beneath her mask as they fell into playful banter.
“Don’t you have a day job as well?” Weiss questioned, cocking a brow. The tilt of her lips told Ruby she was only playing rather than digging for personal information.
“Well of course. I’m a newspaper reporter and I wear glasses so people don’t recognize me.” She grinned behind her mask
Weiss blinked slowly, seeming to be thinking before she scowled.
“That’s Superman, you dolt.”
“I know.” Ruby laughed.
They fell into a comfortable silence before Weiss’s stomach grumbled loudly. Ruby looked at the embarrassed CEO.
“Have you been here all day?” She asked.
Weiss grumbled in what Ruby could only guess was an affirmative.
“Do you like pizza?” She asked suddenly. Weiss wasn’t sure where the question had come from but nodded.
“Yes, why?”
Ruby stood up and held her hand out to Weiss.
“Come with me.” Was all she said.
Weiss hesitated a moment before taking the offered hand.
She was pulled up from her chair and led back to the balcony.
“Hold onto me and don’t scream.” Red said to her, before wrapping an arm around Weiss’s back and behind her knees, scooping her up and hopping up onto the banister.
“What!?” she started to wiggle but the grip on her back tightened. She looked up to find the silver eyes behind the mask starring into her own.
“Trust me, Weiss.”
Weiss swallowed thickly, giving a shallow nod and wrapping her arms around the heroine’s neck.
“Here we go!” Red leapt off the edge and Weiss clenched her eyes shut as they plummeted from the 30th floor, the air rushing past them.
Suddenly they slowed and tentatively Weiss opened her eyes to find them zipping across the rooftops at high speed.
Red would take five or so long strides and then launch to the next roof. The city whizzed by them in an almost undecipherable blur.
Weiss had almost become used to it when they abandoned the rooftops and stopped, dropping into an alley where Red let her down.
“What are we doing?” Weiss turned to Red who nodded toward the street. Weiss followed her out of the alley.
Parked in the road beneath a streetlight was a food truck with with big green lettering.
‘Polendina and Daughter pizza.’
They walked around to the front where the flap of the truck was open and a red headed teenager was working the register. She saw Red and smiled brightly.
“Red, my friend!”
“Hi Penny, where’s your dad?” Ruby smiled behind her mask at the ginger haired girl she’d saved last year from being hit by a car.
“He’s not feeling well tonight, I’m working by myself.” She said proudly. “Can I get you and your friend something?”
“I’ll have my usual. Weiss?” She turned to her companion who was gazing at the menu.
“I’ll have whatever you’re having.” Weiss said.
“Two double cheese pepperoni coming right up.” Penny said before going to work.
Glancing around the area Weiss decided they were still in the nicer area of the city, not that she was too worried. She was in the safest place she could be; standing right next to the Red Wolf.
Speaking of, she was standing next to Weiss humming quietly to herself as they waited, content with the silence.
“Order up!” Penny called, holding out two paper plates with pizza. They took them with thanks.
Ruby started to reach for her wallet when Penny held up a hand.
“You know your money's no good here, Red.”
“At least let me pay for hers.” She practically begged.
“No can do. Dad would never allow it.” Penny said, smiling. “I need to close up now, good night you two.” She said before closing the metal flap of the tuck.
“Night Penny.”
Weiss followed as they walked back around the truck and tucked into the alley where Red could pull up her mask enough to eat.
Weiss looked at the oozing pizza skeptically before taking a bite.
It was the best pizza she’d ever had.
She looked up to find Red devouring her piece. Weiss followed suit, though with slightly more manners, digging in as they sat on the cement in silence.
Once all they had left were the paper plates Ruby turned to Weiss, to find those blue eyes already focussed on her.
“Can I ask you a personal question, Weiss?” She finally said.
Weiss looked a little wary at that but nodded.
“I suppose.”
“How did you get the scar?” Ruby asked
Whatever Weiss had been expecting that had not been it.
“A fencing accident when I was a teenager. I insisted on practicing without my helmet and my sister got me.” Weiss explained, running a finger gently over the old smooth scar.
She hated the thing.
“Oh, ya know though, I think it makes you look tough and mysterious.” She grinned and with her mask still pushed up Weiss could see the toothy grin and her heart thumped hard in her chest.
“I’ve... never thought about it that way.” She said quietly.
“So you have a sister? Older or younger?” She questioned.
“Older” She said and Red smiled.
“I have an older sister too.” She said. “She’s the one who always took care of me as a kid.” The fondness for this older sister was obvious in Red’s tone.
“You’re parents didn’t take care of you?” Weiss asked, brows furrowed between her eyes.
“My mom died when I was young...and I mean, dad took care of us but for a time after she died he….kinda...shut down for a little while.” She shrugged.
“I’m sorry”
“Don’t be, it was a long time ago.” She assured. They sat there quietly for a while, taking in the quiet sounds of the city.
“You asked me a question, now let me ask you one” Weiss practically demanded.
“Oh...uhh, okay..” She agreed hesitantly.
Weiss thought for a second, she couldn’t ask really personal questions though there was something she wanted to know before she became...to invested.
“How old are you?”
“Oh, that's all?” Red giggled. “24”
‘Two years younger than me.’ Weiss thought to herself.
“My turn.” Ruby grinned to herself. Turning a single exchange into a game of twenty questions.
“What’s your favorite food?”
“Kung pao chicken, you?”
“Hmm, I’m torn between cookies and mooncake…” She hummed.
“What is a mooncake?” Weiss asked.
Red turned to her with a gasp.
“You’ve never had a mooncake?!” Ruby couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“It’s a chinese dessert made for the Mid-autumn festival. They’re round cakes about two inches tall and they can be sweet or savory, I prefer the sweet. My dad makes the best cantonese-style mooncakes.” Ruby was drooling. She was so glad the mid-autumn was only a couple weeks away.
“So you’re Chinese?” Weiss asked.
“Eh, sorta? My dad’s half, I'm just a quarter, I’m pretty...white.” Ruby shrugged. “I look like my mom.”
Off in the distance the clock on the Vale 1st bank began to chime.
Eleven chimes. It was Eleven PM.
“It’s getting pretty late, you want me to take you home?” She pulled down her mask and looked to Weiss.
She could get a cab and as much as her common sense told her she should, that was the last thing Weiss wanted.
“If you don’t mind.”
She allowed Red to pick her back up and gave her directions before the hero took off across the city.
It was only a few minutes before Red was jumping the fence that surrounded Weiss’s estate, stopping at the CEO’s front door and letting her down.
“Thank you, Red. For the pizza and bringing me home.”
“Don’t mention it, I enjoyed your company.” She said, the mask hiding her red cheeks. “Well, goodnight, Weiss.”
Before she could say anything Red was gone, rose petals floating in her wake.
Weiss reached out and caught one between her fingers.
It was red and soft as any other rose petal she’d ever held. She closed it in her fist before going inside.

“You seem awfully chipper today.” Blake couldn’t help but notice the extra something lifting her friends mood today.
Friday’s were usually everyone's favorite day in the office, with Weiss usually being the exception since she insisted on working at home even on the weekend; so to walk in and find her humming of all things was almost freaky.
“Why shouldn’t I be?” Weiss asked. “Stocks are up and the tests on the liquid dust are coming along nicely.”
“Mhmm..” Blake hummed, turning away from Weiss to put some papers in the filing cabinet.
“Do you know something I don’t?” The annoyed tone was more than clear to her longtime friend.
‘Always’ Blake smiled to herself. “No, Weiss. I was just asking.” She appeased, walking up to Weiss’s desk and glanced over the papers. Her ears twitched beneath her bow.
“Weren’t these the papers you were working on yesterday?” She asked, knowing full well that they were.
Weiss never stopped writing but Blake could see the slight tense of her muscles.
“Yes, I decided that they could wait until today to finish.”
It took everything Blake had not to roll her eyes, knowing for a fact Weiss had stayed here working till the Red Wolf had whisked her away somewhere.
Where, Blake didn’t know, deciding to give them their privacy, she’d gone home after seeing Red leave the office with Weiss in her arms.
“Good, you need to rest more.”
Predictably The CEO hunched further over her work, guilty.
Blake was having entirely too much fun with this. She should stop.
“I’m glad you didn’t get carried away.”
Should, but wouldn’t
Despite Blake's subtle jabs through the day Weiss kept her rather sunny disposition. Well, sunny for Weiss anyway.
It was around quitting time that a frightened looking secretary knocked on Weiss’s office door and handed over the paperwork for a deal that was supposed to go through first thing Monday morning.
Weiss sighed.
It was going to be a long night.
“I'll stay and help.” Blake made herself comfortable in a chair.
“that's not necessary, Blake.” Weiss started just for Blake to give her a look Weiss had long ago figured out meant to just shut up and let her help.
“At least let me order us dinner.” Weiss said pulling out the take out menu for the Sunny Dragon.
“I guess I could let you do that.” Blake agreed with a grin.

“Sure thing, it’ll be 20 minutes is that okay?….thank you!” Tai-Yang hung up the phone and got to cooking.
“Hey, Ruby!” the blonde man called over the sound of sizzling chicken.
What’s up, dad?” Ruby popped her head into the kitchen.
“Your uncles not here and Jaune is already out for deliveries, would you mind running this delivery for me when I finish?” he poured sauce into the wok and gave it a stir, handing her the paper with the order and the address on it.
“Sure thing.” She said about to duck out of the kitchen when he stopped her.
“Ruby, when I say run, I mean your car.” He said, smiling.
Ruby stuck her tongue out.
“One time when I was 15!” The 24 year old grumbled, stalking out of the kitchen, Tai’s laughter following her.
She glanced down at the address and nearly choked on her own spit.
‘Schnee Energy Company, floor 30.’
Did she know!? How could she have found out?!
“No, no, stop it, Ruby.” She mumbled to herself, taking a deep breath. Wesis ordered from here all the time. She knew that.
“Order going out, Sweetie.” Tai handed her the hot paper sack with Weiss’s food. “Be careful.” He threw over his shoulder before going back in the kitchen.
She grabbed the paper and the black backpack that contained her disguise and Crescent Rose..
“Alright, this will be fine.” Ruby assured herself as she got in her car, setting the food in the passenger seat. “Just… be cool.”
The drive to the SE building seemed to take forever, partially nerves on one hand, on the other she was used to visiting the building in her hero persona and running across buildings.
The sun had set about a half hour earlier and real darkness had settled over the city, the neon lights from various bars, clubs and businesses lit up the streets.
The lobby of the building was deserted at this time of day she noticed as she walked over to the elevator and hit the button.
For someone of her speed the ride up to the 30th floor seemed to take forever. It gave her too much time to think, and the more she thought about seeing Weiss as her regular self the more worried she got.
She was only slightly worried Weiss would recognize her. Deep inside she was more worried Weiss wouldn’t recognize her.
That was really what scared her. That once they knew the Red Wolf they wouldn’t like Ruby.
Yang could reassure her as many times as she wanted that the Red Wolf and Ruby Rose were exactly the same, but until someone outside her family said so she couldn’t believe it.
The Red Wolf was the city hero (well, one of. Nightshade was a total badass) She fought the Grimm and Cinder and helped Nightshade fight the White Fang and even plain old regular criminals.
Ruby Rose was a mail carrier who spent her evenings and weekends helping her dad in his chinese restauraunt or hanging out in the bar her sister worked at with friends..
What would a multimillionaire CEO as smart and beautiful as Weiss Schnee want with Ruby Rose: Mailman/waitress?
The elevator dinged and Ruby jolted, coming back to herself.
She pushed back her self-depreciating thoughts and stepped out of the elevator and walked up to the large wooden door to Weiss’s office.
She knocked loudly and waited. Only a few seconds later the door was opened by Weiss’s assistant, Blake.
“Ah, good you’re here, come in,” She took the food and stepped aside to let Ruby in the office.
Weiss was sitting at her desk bent over some papers.
“Weiss, the food’s here.”
Weiss looked up and Ruby felt a tingle run up her spine as blue eyes locked onto her for more than a second. This was the first time Weiss had ever seen her, her, without the mask and cloak.
“Oh, good.” She pulled her wallet out of her desk drawer and walked over, pulling out two twenty’s and handing them to Ruby.
“Here you are, you can keep the change.” She smiled and Ruby’s stomach flipped as she accepted the money, simultaneously disappointed by the lack of recognition in those pretty blue eyes. “Oh, thank you.” She nodded, accepting the money. And watching Weiss walk back to her desk.
From Weiss’s desk where she was rummaging through the paper bag Blake looked up, eyeing the delivery girl.
She’d never been to The Sunny Dragon, but something about the woman seemed so familiar to her, but Blake couldn’t put her finger on it.
Emptying the bag Blake discovered that there were no utensils.
“Weiss, we have no forks, I think I have some in my desk. I’ll be right back.”
She walked out of the office with the delivery girl.
Weiss turned around to look out the floor to ceiling windows. Most of the tall buildings were dark and still.
Something moved out there and Weiss squinted, looking hard out at the darkness. A large black shape...with two glowing red eyes.
Weiss barely had time to jump around her desk as the large black shape crashed into the windows sending glass flying everywhere.
The nevermore let out a loud screech.
Weiss was still shielding her eyes from the glass when she was roughly yanked to her feet.
She opened her eyes to Cinder, pressing one of her blades against her neck.
“Don’t make this any harder than it needs to be, Miss. Schnee.” The Woman said, pressing the blade just hard enough against her skin to draw a thin line of blood. Weiss winced but continued to glare.
“Weiss!” Blake ran back into the ruined office in time to see the nevermore take off with Weiss and Cinder.
“Fuck!” Blake cursed, as she ran and grabbed her bag from her desk, ripping off her bow.
Ruby sighed to herself as she stepped out of the building and walked toward her car.
Suddenly a loud screech filled the air.
Her eyes jerked up to see a nevermore flying away from from the SE building. Cinder standing atop the huge beast and next to her was a bright spot of white…
“Weiss!”
She grabbed her bag in the passenger seat and jolted into a nearby dark alley trying to change as fast as possible.
“Since I can’t have the liquid dust, I can have the next best thing. The brilliant mind behind it” Cinder turned her cruel gaze on the captive Weiss, whose hands had been zip tied behind her back.
“Why would you want liquid dust?” Weiss snarled.
“Why wouldn’t I want it?” Cinder countered. “Your competitors would pay through the nose for your company's greatest achievement, not to mention it’s highly volatile and explosive nature makes it equally valuable as a weapons component.”
A shot rang through the air and a bullet whizzed by Cinders head. They both turned to see Nightshade, swinging across the buildings by the long black ribbon attached to her weapon.
Weiss had never seen the other hero of Vale, most people hadn’t. She didn't let people take pictures of her, she didn’t give interviews and she was almost only seen at night.
“Pesky cat.” Cinder grumbled, attaching the two short swords together into a bow and drew back, an arrow materializing.
Nightshade was about to come up on the upswing and when she did she would be unable to maneuver out of the way of the arrow, at least Weiss assumed so.
Weiss gritted her teeth and shot off her knees, throwing her body into Cinder just as she let the arrow loose, sending it flying far over Nightshade’s head.
The Villainess wobbled, almost losing her balance, Weiss was not so lucky. Without her hands to catch herself she went tumbling off the side of the grimm.
“Ahhhhhh!” Weiss screamed as she plummeted toward the street below.
A rough jerk and she was suddenly swinging up and away from the ground. Turning to look over her shoulder she saw the black clad Nightshade.
“Are you okay?” She asked, glowing golden eyes turning to her, familiar golden eyes.
More than that, the black ears atop her head. The left ear had a small triangular cut in it and a long past memory of a mean little boy taking a pair of scissors to her best friends head surfaced . After that she wore a bow around them.
“Blake?” She stared back at the masked face with wide eyes.
Blake blinked before a smile pulled at her lips. Of course the first person to ever recognize her in her disguise would be her oldest and closest friend.
“Later” Blake promised. “We have other things to worry about.” They swung between two buildings just as an arrow whizzed by their heads.
“Shit” Blake cursed as they swung out from between the two buildings to land on a rooftop only to find Cinder waiting for them, arrow drawn back.
Gunfire cracked the air sending the arrow to the street below.
Cinder turned just in time to catch the moonlight glinting off the Red Wolf’s spinning scythe as she flew through the air, catching the nevermores neck in the crook of her blade and slicing through it like butter.
The creature began to drop with Cinder still on it.
Blake cut the ziptie, unbinding Weiss’s wrists.
“Stay here, Weiss.” Blake ordered, shooting her weapon into an adjacent building and swinging from the roof.
“Red!” Blake called, holding out her hand as she swung toward the falling cloaked crusader.
Reaching up she grabbed Blake's hand as she passed.
“Weiss is fine, get Cinder!”
“Right!” Red nodded.
As they reached the zenith of their swing Blake flung the masked hero forward, rocketing toward the falling criminal, scythe reared back.
Cinder held up her swords just in time to meet the charging scythe.
Spinning her body Ruby used her blade to hook the swords and jerk them from Cinders hands, following through with her momentum she spun around again, turning the blade in her grip to deliver a full force blow to the other woman’s head with the butt of her scythe.
Cinder hit the ground hard, her unconscious body thumping across the asphalt before rolling to a stop.
Ruby skidded to a harsh stop, panting behind her mask.
Sirens in the distance were fast approaching.
Ruby looked up to find Nightshade standing next to Weiss.
“I’ve got her, you take care of that.” She nodded toward the oncoming sirens.
“But…!” Before she could protest Nightshade had wrapped an arm around Weiss’s waist and was swinging away. “I wanted to make sure she was ok…” Ruby pouted.
“I leave the room for 5 minutes and you get yourself kidnapped…” Blake shook her head as they flew through the air.
“Me!?” Weiss nearly screeched. “You’re...you’re…”
“Yup.” Blake said simply with a grin.
“This is too much.” She sighed. The smile fell from Blake’s lips.
“You’re not hurt are you?” She asked, trying to see any injuries from their position.
“Just a scratch.” Weiss tilted her head back so Blake could see the small cut across her friend's throat, tiny droplets of blood dried on her skin.
“Let’s get you home and we’ll clean it.”
It was an hour later when Blake left after answering some questions and bandaging her small cut that Weiss sat in front of her vanity, brushing out her long hair, working out the stress of the evening.
Movement caught her eye and in the mirror she could see a red shadow in her window.
“Do you always invite yourself into people's bedroom windows at night?” Weiss asked as the window opened and the dull sound of boots hitting carpet met her ears.
Ruby had not at all been prepared for what the CEO was wearing. The thigh length, light blue nightie was almost, almost transparent. She had to mentally shake herself, Weiss was talking to her.
“Sorry, Weiss. I just wanted to check and make sure you were okay.” Red explained as she walked up behind Weiss.
“It’s fine, and I’m fine. Thanks to you and Nightshade that is.” Weiss turned to Vales red draped hero.
Cloaked shoulders shrugged.
“It’s my job, stop the bad guys, save the innocent.” She mumbled, still a little distracted, she stared hard at the white carpet beneath her boots.
Weiss hummed walking across the room but stopped when Red spoke again.
“Even if it wasn’t my job, i’d have still have saved you though.” She said quietly.
Weiss turned back around to look at Red, standing there, shoulders bunched up and the silver eyes behind her mask trained on the carpet.
Her bare feet made no sound as she walked back over to stand in front of Red.
“Every good hero deserves an equal reward.” Weiss mumbled. Silver eyes shot up, not noticing she’d got so close.
“You don’t have to…” Ruby started, suddenly all nervous jitters inside.
“Do you trust me?” Weiss asked suddenly.
Ruby stood, stunned inside, not by the question itself but the realization that she did. She trusted Weiss more than she’d ever trusted anyone else outside her family.
Her lips were dry and she nervously ran her tongue over them.
“Yes”
Slowly, waiting for Red to stop her, Weiss reached up and slipped her fingers under the edge of the mask, the metal was cold against her fingers, but the hero said nothing as the mask was slowly pushed up just enough to expose her mouth before stopping.
Weiss was more than tempted to rip the mask off and see the whole face behind it, but Red’s trust stayed her hand.
Ruby swallowed, her mouth dry as a desert and her nerves on edge now that she couldn’t see.
“Weiss...” Was all she managed before the CEO was pressing her lips against hers, blanking the hero’s brain of all other thoughts save for the cold, smooth lips slanted over her own warm, chapped ones.
Her hands anchored themselves on Weiss’s hips, fingers digging into the sheer fabric of her nightgown.
Her mouth opened in surprise more than anything when she felt Weiss’s tongue slid across her bottom lip.
A fire shot through Ruby as Weiss deepened the kiss and before she even knew it she had taken control, walking them backwards toward the bed till the back of Weiss’s knees hit the frame and buckled, sending them flopping onto the mattress.
Weiss gripped the fabric of her cloak tightly as Red’s teeth grazed her bottom lip before pulling back and trailing down her neck, leaving a path of fire on her skin.
“Red” Weiss panted.
That one word struck Ruby like ice water.
What the hell was she doing? Well, she knew what she was doing, but she couldn’t and shouldn’t be doing it!
She scrambled off Weiss and back to her feet leaving Weiss looking stunned.
“I can’t. I’m sorry Weiss, I can’t do this.” She stumbled back, away from the bed, slamming the mask back down over her mouth.
Weiss pulled herself to her feet, looking more embarrassed than Ruby could ever remember seeing.
“I-I’m sorry. I thought…” She started, blue eyes staring at the floor.
“Don’t!” Ruby stopped her. “Don’t apologize, you were right...I...I like you a lot, Weiss.”
Blue eyes locked with her own, the embarrassment was gone but the confusion in Weiss’s eyes had only magnified.
“Than why…”
“You don’t even know who I am.” She said quietly. The statement needed no explanation and Weiss frowned.
“You said you trusted me...why can’t you tell me?.”
“I can’t do that, Weiss! Knowing who I am would put you in so much danger!” Ruby was close to yelling in frustration, her fists clenched.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed..” Weiss began following her, one step forward for every step Red took back. “But just this evening you saved me from being kidnapped by Cinder, I already am in danger just by being the head of the SE.” Weiss argued, stopping with only a few inches between them.
Ruby bit her lip, it was true, liquid dust had already made Weiss a target. Her real fear was rising to the surface.
“I’m not anyone special.” She finally said.
“What?” Weiss could only blink in surprise at the statement.
“I’m not anyone special!” She shouted. “This, this is what everyone sees!” She held up the edges of her cloak fisted in her hands. “They want the hero, you want the hero, not…!” She stopped herself and Weiss knew her real name had been on the tip of her tongue.
“You’re amazing and beautiful and...you wouldn’t want the real me...” She said before jumping away and back out the bedroom window she’d entered from.
Weiss ran to the window, but all the evidence that Red had been there at all were the rose petals already drifting away in the breeze.

Saturday morning Blake knocked on Weiss’s front door.
When it opened she gasped.
“Weiss, you look awful, are you alright?”
It was true, Weiss hadn’t slept after her confrontation with Red.
With a resigned sigh she let Blake in and told her everything about her meeting with Red the night before.
“I knew you two had a thing for each other.” Blake said.
“Well it doesn’t matter now does it?” Weiss scowled. The words trying to catch in her throat. Blake frowned.
“If I’d known she was having such problems with coalescing her hero persona with herself I would have tried to help her.” Blake mumbled to herself.
“What should I do?” Weiss asked.
“Next time I see her, I’ll talk to her.” Blake promised. Weiss sighed.
“You know, we never did get to eat our chinese food. Come on, let's go to your favorite place, my treat.” Blake offered.
“I’m not sure I’m up to it, Blake.” Weiss mumbled, arms crossed over her chest.
“Come on, Weiss. Sitting around here moping won’t do you any good.” Blake nudged her.
“Alright, fine.”

Ruby was, for lack of a better word, depressed.
Every Time she’d closed her eyes to go to sleep she could only see Weiss’s face.
What’s worse, instead of laying in a pile of sadness in her bed she’d let her dad talk her into coming into the shop to help. It couldn’t have been a worse day.
Oh how the universe endeavored to prove her wrong when she saw Blake and Weiss walk in through the front doors.
She immediately made an about face into the kitchen.
Her heart ached at the sight of the CEO.
She looked through the window in the door to see their hostess seating the pair in her section.
“Why?” She groaned to herself. She looked in the dining room and saw Ren waving goodby to his last table.
She shot out of the kitchen and ran up to him.
“Ren” She called.
“What is it?” He turned to his friend curiously. She’d been acting morose all day.
“Do you see that table in my section?” She discreetly pointed to Blake and Weiss. Ren nodded. “I need you to take that table for me, please.” Ruby begged.
Turning back to Ruby, Ren could see the desperation in her eyes.
“Sure” He nodded.
“Thank you.” She smiled in relief before walking over to one of her other tables, right behind Weiss’s. She swallowed thickly.
“Relax, Ruby, she doesn’t know you…” Ruby frowned. “...she doesn’t know you.”
No matter what she told herself she still couldn't stop from glancing at Weiss constantly.
She looked tired and drawn. It was with no small amount of guilt that Ruby realized it was probably because of her.
She sighed quietly to herself.
Weiss didn’t notice the looks, but Blake did.
‘Why do I feel like I know her?’ Blake frowned.
“What is it?” Weiss asked after their food was gone.
“That girl.” Blake nodded. “This is clearly her section but she had the guy take us.” Blake frowned.
Weiss looked at the girl in question. It was the same one who had delivered their food last night.
She was tall, around their age and had uneven black hair with red dyed tips.
Normally she would have thought the woman was rather cute, but Red was the only thing on her mind.
“So?” Weiss finally said, turning back to Blake.
“So…” Blake started. “You gave her a fifteen lien tip last night, why wouldn’t she want our table? Also, she keeps looking at you.” Blake said quietly.
Weiss turned back around just in time to see the waitress turn around and walk toward the kitchen.
Weiss felt like she’d been struck by lightning.
The waitress was wearing a black camisole and there on her exposed shoulder was a tattoo of a wolf head in a ring of roses.
“It can’t be...” She mumbled.
“What, what is it?” Blake asked seeing the look of shock on Weiss’s face.
“Her tattoo.” Weiss said almost breathlessly.
“What about it?” Blake asked, glancing at said tattoo over her shoulder.
“Red has that exact tattoo in that exact spot.”
“What? How do you know?” Blake questioned.
“The banquet.” Weiss hissed. “Her dress was backless, when we were on the balcony the wind blew her cloak out of the way and I saw it.”
Blake half turned in her seat, eyeing the waitress carefully and catching her gaze for a moment.
“How the hell did I never notice?” Blake said more to herself than Weiss.
“What?”
“I always thought Red wore silver colored contacts beneath her mask, the color is so rare, but that girl; her eyes are silver.” Blake said quietly.
‘It had to be. It had to be her!’
Weiss made to stand up only for Blake to reach across the table and grab her.
“What are you doing?!” Blake hissed. Weiss was obviously not thinking clearly at the moment if she was going to do what Blake thought she was going to do.
“She’s…!” Weiss started. Blake held her firm.
“So what, you were going to call her out, here in the middle of a busy restaurant?”
“I…” Frowning Weiss settled back into her seat. What was wrong with her? Of course that was an asinine idea.
“We know where she is, and we know her face. Now we just have to come up with a plan so you can talk to her, in private.”
“And how do we do that?” Weiss tapped her fingers on the table impatiently.
“Let me worry about that.” Blake said.

Another night watching over Vale, or as her sister had called it, moping about the skyline.
It had only taken Yang five minutes to see how down she was and another five to drag it all out of her.
Prompting another lecture about her identities, but Ruby was just not in the mood for it.
So now here she was, sitting alone on the rooftop of the tallest building in Vale, far out of everyone's sight, the wind whipping at her cloak. Thunder rumbled across the sky. It was going to rain soon.
“Hey, being dark and brooding is my thing.”
Ruby jumped, turning to find Nightshade standing behind her.
“Hey, Night.” She said simply turning back to look at the city. She heard Nightshade sigh.
“You and I need to have a talk.”
Ruby blinked behind her mask, what did they need to talk about?
“What about?’ Ruby turned to face her.
“Weiss” She said simply. Ruby immediately frowned.
“What about her?” She asked rigidly.
“Don’t give me that shit.” Nightshade frowned. “You don’t think I didn’t see you sneak to her office last thursday and then carry her off into the night?” She asked, resting a hand on her hip.Ruby flushed furiously. She hadn’t been near as careful as she should have been.
“That's none of your business.” She bit out.
“It is, because I’m there one who has to watch her be head over heels for you every day.”
“W..what?” Ruby narrowed her eyes at the dark haired heroine.
“We’ve been doing this thing together for how long now, Red? Five years, right? Let’s be level here.” She said, reaching up and untieing the knot in her mask and letting it slide off her face.
Silver eyes went wide.
“You’re Weiss’s assistant.” She said dumbly.
“And long time childhood friend.” Blake smiled.
“W-why would you tell me who you are?” Ruby stared back at her long time counterpart in shock.
“I like to consider us friends in a way.” Blake admitted and it did make Ruby glad to know she did.
“So it's only fair that I tell you who I am; because I know who you are, and so does Weiss.” She finished and Ruby froze.
“W-what? How could you possibly know?!”
“At the chinese place Saturday. Weiss recognized you by your tattoo.” Blake supplied.
“My tattoo?” Ruby repeated. “Weiss has never seen my..” She stopped, combing through all her times with Weiss. “The dress…” She realized with dread. That backless dress. “Damn it, Yang.” Ruby cursed.
Blake didn’t know who Yang was but that was unimportant at the moment.
“So...” She began, closing the gap distance between them and holding out her hand. “I’m Blake Belladonna; Nightshade.”
Ruby hesitated, she’d never shared her identity with anyone outside her family, but Blake already knew who she was, at least by face and if anything that was worse than by name.
Slowly she reached up and pulled back the hood of her cloak and slid her mask off.
She looked so nervous, Blake couldn’t help but smile encouragingly at the younger woman.
‘I’m Ruby.” She said, taking Blake’s still outstretched hand. “Ruby Rose.”
“Ruby Rose” Blake repeated with a chuckle. “It suits you.” She admitted and Ruby smiled for the first time that evening.
“Weiss told me about what happened at her place Friday night...” Blake started, the smile fell from Ruby’s lips. “Do you really believe that?”
“It’s true though.” She clenched her fists. “Weiss liked the Red Wolf, not me.” She mumbled.
Blake sighed.
“Ruby, you are The Red Wolf.” She said.
“I’ve heard it all before.” Ruby growled in frustration.
“You’ve heard it before because that’s the truth. Ruby, you are not two separate people living in one body.”
Ruby finally looked up at her, though the skepticism on her face was clear. Hearing this from another hero might have been what she needed, Blake decided.
“When I first started being Nightshade I felt like you do. That people loved her and next to her, Blake Belladonna wasn’t much.” She admitted.
“But I realized that Nightshade wasn’t some other person living inside me, she was me, wearing a mask. She couldn’t be better than me, she couldn’t be anything I wasn't already. My strengths and my flaws are all hers.”
Ruby was quite, absorbing everything she was being told. It made sense...and hearing Blake tell her how she’d felt the same made her feel like maybe she was being dumb.
“Look at it this way Ruby.” Blake said, startling her out of her thoughts. “If you were just on the street and someone was in danger would you help them?”
“Of course!” She answered immediately.
“Even if you didn’t have your mask or cloak?” Blake asked.
“Of course!” She answered again without an ounce of hesitation, to which Blake only smiled and suddenly Ruby felt like such a moron.
“I am the hero.” She grumbled. Blake chuckled.
“You are the hero.” She confirmed.
“Ughh, Weiss must hate me now!” She moaned.
“Believe me, Weiss does not hate you. She really wants to talk to you though…” Blake hinted.
“I should talk to her…” Ruby started only for Blake to cut in.
“Ruby, you need to know, you’re not the only one with insecurities...when you grow up with as much money as Weiss, you can't help but wonder if people only like you because you’re rich.” Blake told her.
“I...I’d never thought about that...Weiss doesn’t think I like her because she’s rich does she?!”
“If she did you wouldn't get the time of day...it’s just..something to be aware of.” Blake said.
Taking a deep breath Ruby nodded. “I should go.” She said putting her mask back on and pulling up the hood of her cloak. Blake nodded, tieing her mask back in place.
When she next looked, Ruby was gone in a swirl of petals.
“Balls in your court now, Weiss.” She mumbled with a smile as the rain began to fall.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The rain poured over the city, hundreds of thousands of droplets streaked down the windows of Weiss’s office, creating a hazy barrier between her and the outside world.
Weiss tapped her pen against the wood of her desk. She’d been staring at the same proposal for twenty minutes.
Honestly her productivity for the week had been a joke. She barely made it through her meetings, now left to her own devices she was useless.
There hadn’t been any real trouble since Cinder’s arrest so no one had seen the Red Wolf in a week, unless you counted her accidental sighting at the Sunny Dragon the previous Saturday and even that had turned out to be a fluke, Weiss had gone back twice, despite Blake's warnings but she was nowhere to be seen.
Normally Weiss prefered to be alone with her thoughts, but that habit had been rather damning lately.
She’d spent a lot of time thinking about what Red had said. Weiss knew she could be rather intimidating. The rich and powerful schtick scared off as many people as it attracted.
People looked at Weiss and saw a no nonsense CEO. People looked at Red and saw the fearless hero. Those two people did exist, but there was much more to both of them.
Tossing the pen aside she leaned back in her office chair, closing her eyes.
Maybe she should just call it quits for the night. It was already half past seven.
Tap tap
Her eyes shot open and she bolted upright in her chair.
Standing there at her balcony door was Red. Seeing Weiss looking at her she gave a timid little wave.
Weiss hesitated a second before walking over and unlatching the door. Ther heroine was soaking wet, or at least her cloak was.
“Hey… Weiss.”
Without thinking Weiss grabbed her arm and pulled her inside.
“What are you doing out there on a night like this, you’ll catch your death.” The CEO scolded. “You’re soaked.”
“I needed to talk to you.” She said, facing the irritated woman. “It couldn’t wait.”
“Alright… Weiss said slowly.
“Um..can you, close the blinds?” Red asked, fidgeting.
Weiss cocked a brow in silent question at the request but said nothing as she walked over to a small panel on the wall and hit a button. The quiet whirring of a motor filled the otherwise silent room as the curtains drew themselves across the window, blocking out the city.
“Alright, why did I need too…” Her tongue went numb in her mouth as she watched Red’s hands untie the cloak from her shoulders, letting it drop in a wet heap on the carpet.
She hesitated a moment before reaching up and pulling off her mask, letting it join the cloak on the floor.
“So, uh…” She began nervously, turning to face Weiss. “I’m Ruby.” She said at last. “Ruby Rose. I’m a mail carrier during the day and I have a dog named Zwei and a sister named Yang and I like to build things in my spare time if I’m not helping my dad at his restaurant.” She spit out all the general information about herself she could think of.
A tense moment of silence followed before Weiss spoke.
“What made you change your mind?” Was the only thing she could think to say in response to all the information.
“Nightshade...or, uh, Blake. She can be very convincing when talking sense..,” She smiled nervously before it dropped back into a frown, silver eyes turning to the carpet.
“I’m sorry, Weiss. For the other night. I...I’ve just always been so afraid that when I finally told someone I cared about who I was, they wouldn’t like me as much as they liked Red Wolf.” She finished, worrying her hands together. She’d never voiced her fears aloud, but now that she did they did seem rather inane.
A sigh finally broke the thundering silence.
“You are an absolute dolt, you know that?” Weiss asked, exasperated. Silver eyes trailed up to look into Weiss’s annoyed blue ones as she strode across the room to stand nose to nose with Ruby.
“Ruby...” Weiss said her name and a shiver ran up her spine.
“You, are what makes the Red Wolf great, not the other way around.” Weiss poked a manicured finger into Ruby’s chest. “Anyone could put on your mask and cloak and say they’re the Red Wolf, but they wouldn’t be.” Weiss pressed on. “Because they wouldn't be you inside there.”
“I…’ Ruby started only for Weiss to hold up a hand.
“I’m not finished.” she declared haughtily. She’d thought a lot about what she wanted to say and damned if she wasn’t going to say it.
“I liked the Red Wolf because she’s brave, thoughtful and kind. Those are the things I like about you, Ruby.”
Ruby’s stomach was tying itself into a knot at Weiss’s words.
“I...thanks, Weiss.” She didn’t know what else to say. “You’re awesome too.” she said.
Weiss huffed, not refuting the claim, but Ruby could see the doubt in her eyes now that she knew to look for it.
“I mean it.” She grabbed both of Weiss’s hands, making her jolt. “You’re kind and generous and the smartest person I know.” Ruby praised, turning Weiss’s pale face pink from her nose to her neck. The little piece of Yang in her suddenly took hold and she grinned.
“You’re a good kisser too.” Her grin only widened as Weiss turned cherry red.
“S-shut up” She tried to shove her away but Ruby just pulled her closer.
“Weiss, will you go out with me?’ Ruby asked suddenly.
“Wh-what, right now?” The flustered CEO asked.
“Yeah, right now!” She smiled brightly.
“Alright.” She said, catching Ruby’s infectious smile.
“Come on, I know just where to go.” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
With the rain it was a slow night at the Sunny Dragon. Tai sat at the hostess’s stand playing on his phone.
The restaurant doors opened up and Tai looked up with a grin.
“Ruby, sweetie.” He gave his youngest a hug, than noticed the other woman standing next to her, one of his favorite regulars.
“Miss Schnee, always a pleasure to see you.” He smiled.
“You as well Mr. Xiao-Long.” Weiss nodded politely, even more so now that she knew this was Ruby’s father.
“Can we get a table please, Dad.”
Tai looked between the two of them for a moment before it clicked.
“Oh...oh!” he smiled brightly and Ruby groaned internally. “Of course. This way ladies.” He led them to a table. “Your usuals I presume?” They nodded and he disappeared into the back.
It was quiet save for the rain splattering on the windows. The two of them were the only customers in the room.
“So, I think you actually know more about me than I do about you.” Ruby broke the quiet.
“Well, what do you want to know?” Weiss brushed a few wet strands of hair out of her eyes.
“Everything” Ruby leaned forward. “Everything you want me to know.” She smiled at the pink creeping up Weiss’s neck again.
“That might take a while.”
Feeling bold, Ruby reached across the table and wrapped her fingers gently around Weiss’s slightly smaller ones.
“I’ve got nowhere to be.” She said.
A slight squeeze back was her answer.
“Alright…” Weiss started.
