Pasta is both fun and healthy for kids! In this recipe we used a combination of broccoli and coconut milk for the sauce and it tasted sooo good! For the pasta itself we used the red lentil pasta from @pinkharvestfarms (highly recommend). It's a single ingredient pasta which means if you see the list of ingredients there would be only one ingredient listed, nothing else. No better way to check which products are actually healthy in our opinion. Also, we've got a few questions on how babies can enjoy pasta without teeth. Babies gums are extremely strong and if the pasta is cooked soft, they can easily chew through it. From our experience S loves picking up the pasta pieces one by one and we usually overload it with the sauce since S loves the taste. Note: Don't overcook the pasta though, because then it'll easily break in their hold making it extremely frustrating for them to pick and eat. Ingredients: Pasta of your choice Steamed broccoli florets Coconut milk Powdered pepper/ whole peppercorns Homemade butter/unsalted butter Preparation 1. Add the steamed broccoli, coconut milk and a pinch of pepper to a blender. Blend until smooth. Adjust coconut milk amounts to the consistency you desire. 2. Add pasta to a pan of water and boil until soft. 3. Heat a little butter on a pan. Add the blended broccoli sauce and let it heat until you see it thicken. 4. Add the cooked pasta and mix well. Remove from heat and serve once cool. That's it! It’s looking like a warm week ahead so we’re making another batch of my strawberry and blueberry lollies ☀️🍦 Great for healthy snacks and teething babes 👶🏼 Recipe below! This morning was hard 😣 My munchkin woke his usual happy self then it hit him; Blocked runny nose, cough and no interest in milk or food! Tonight's dinner:
Cheese and tomato pasta
.
So Ollie, just like his mummy, loves pasta! I really like making veggie loaded sauces for us to share and this one has a tin of tomatoes, half a chopped onion, chopped spinach, sweetcorn and mushrooms. Literally just add all the veggies to a pan, simmer for 10 mins with a pinch of parsley, pinch of pepper and some garlic and then stir in some cooked pasta! I add a sprinkle of cheese too as he loves it (again, like his mummy 😂🙈)

I really don't think you can overestimate the convenience of frozen veg! Did you know that frozen fruit and veggies can be just as good for you as fresh? Not to mention it can cut down on waste too! I use fresh where I can as I grow bits in the garden but the onions in this are frozen chopped ones from @sainsburys - life saver when you have a little one 😁

The sun's out, so it's time to fire up the BBQ ☀️ Try my Moroccan lamb burgers - perfect for the whole family 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Raffy had a chopped version with some harissa yogurt dip and salad sticks, we had ours in baps with some pan fried halloumi, harissa yogurt sauce and salad 🍔 ~ 1 onion, roughly chopped 1 inch ginger, roughly chopped 2 garlic cloves 2 tsp ground coriander + ground cumin 1 tsp ground cinnamon 80g dried apricots, chopped 500g lamb mince Handful fresh parsley, finely chopped ~ Add all ingredients, except the lamb and parsley, to a blender and blitz well to form a spice paste. Add the lamb and parsley to a large bowl, tip in the spice paste, and mix thoroughly using your hands. Shape the lamb mixture into patties and BBQ or grill for 5 minutes each side. First foods are always special :) we put a lot of thought into them and want to introduce the best foods to our babies. On the very first day of weaning we offered preloaded spoons of ragi porridge and steamed carrot sticks to S. Very messy and not too much was eaten but S immediately took both the spoons and the carrots to his mouth and attempted eating them which we felt was a very good start! Our daughter also introduced the concept to him earlier by doing activities like giving him raw carrots (peeled and washed in drinking water) as teethers and we did our best to keep meal time a zero pressure space for S so he would explore at his pace. Today, he's an adventurous eater and he's slowly developing a good pincer grasp. He tries to pick up smaller pieces of food that breaks off and attempts to fully finish the pieces offered to him. He also looks forward to his meal times and starts getting annoyed if we put him in his highchair but delay getting his food by a couple of minutes 😂 The post has the very first foods we offered S :) All were offered in a blw friendly way. Initially we held out the pieces for him to grab and eat and by the end of the week he was picking them off the highchair tray on his own. Do try to include iron rich foods as part of the meals. It's said that iron reserves reduce by 6 months and that's why it's important to start weaning at this stage. Iron is essential for growth and brain development and deficiency in iron may also cause lower appetite. Pairing iron rich foods with foods high in vitamin C help in better absorption of iron. Being south Indians, Dosa has always been a staple food for us. It is a super quick and convenient breakfast item that can be paired with chutney or sambar. We introduced S to this when he was 6 months during his first week of weaning. It was a hit! Over time we slowly gave coconut chutney spread on Dosa, then with mashed dal and sambar and he slowly got used to those tastes as well. Ingredients 3 cups Idli Rice 1 cup Dosa Rice ((if dosa rice is unavailable, you can use raw rice)) 3/4 cups Urad dal whole 1 tablespoon Fenugreek Preparation 1. Wash and soak both Idli rice and Dosa rice (or Plain Rice) together and Fenugreek in a separate container for 6 hours minimum (preferably overnight). Soak Urad dal for 1 hour. 2. First finely grind the soaked Fenugreek adding little water. Once it's frothy, add soaked Urad dal and nicely grind till the batter becomes fluffy by adding water as required gradually. Remove and keep aside 3. Now grind the soaked rice to a very fine paste while adding as required little by little. 4. Mix both the batters and keep aside to ferment. 5. You can remove the baby's portion at this stage (if less than 1 yr old) and add salt to the remaining batter before leaving to ferment or do it post fermentation. 6.After 8 hours or next day morning the batter would have fermented. Sweet Potato can be started as one of the first solid foods your baby when he turns six months old. Sweet potatoes are a rich source of fibre as well as high in beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin B6 and vitamin C and minerals including iron, calcium, selenium, thiamine, niacin, potassium and copper. They are also a good source of protein, calcium, vitamin E. To prepare, wash the Sweet Potato well and boil the Sweet potato in Steamer or Pressure Cooker without salt. I’ve found sweet potatoes take longer to cook to a soft consistency so you can keep it for more whistles if pressure cooking. If steaming using a steamer, please check if it’s cooked all the way through before offering it to your baby. Another alternate way is to roast it and offer. This tastes really good as well! If you're worried about the texture or if you've just started on blw, you could also pre-load spoons of mashed sweet potato and offer them to your baby. Paneer or Cottage Cheese contains protein and good fat in good quantities and is also loaded with calcium that helps in building healthy teeth. We recommend making the paneer at home and take care to not add salt when preparing for babies below 1 year of age. Our experience: we introduced this to S when he was 7.5 months old. He absolutely loved it! It broke into two pieces in his hands and he held one piece in each hand and alternatively ate it 😂 we offered the two pieces shown in the image and he ate one and half pieces in total. Ingredients 100 grams Homemade paneer 1 Tomato 1 Onion 2 Garlic Cloves 1 pinch Coriander powder 1 pinch Jeera powder 1 pinch Turmeric 1 Tsp Cold pressed oil of your choice Preparation 1. Heat the oil in a kadai and add finely chopped onion and tomato. Sauté till tomatoes are cooked well. 2. Add the turmeric, jeera powder and coriander powder and mix well. Remove from heat. Allow it to cool. 3. Cut Paneer into 2 inch sticks 4. Spread the Tomato gravy over paneer sticks and serve.
