“I will follow you into the dark…”
“If there′s no one beside you, when your soul embarks, then I’ll follow you into the dark. (…) The time for sleep is now. But it′s nothing to cry about, ‘cause we′ll hold each other soon in the blackest of rooms.” (“I will follow you into the dark” by Death Cab for Cutie)
Trigger warning: My thoughts of despair can be quite dark. If anyone has difficulties with reading these things, please skip the next five paragraphs.
I’m struggling with ME/CFS for 1,5 years now and my life, as I knew it before, has changed drastically. Damn, I’ve lost so much…so much I’ve taken for granted, although my life wasn’t easy before this disease, either.
The small things in life, which have always felt so naturally, are gone for me. Driving my car, being active with my three children, going to work, taking care of my household, meeting my friends and family, making a phone call, taking care of myself, watching TV, listening to loud music, reading more than just a few pages of a book, drinking a glass of wine, leaving the house or even my dark room in general….everything was just taken from me by this fucking bitch of a disease, called ME/CFS!
I feel so stupid for having regarded these things as a matter of course….and I would rather relinquish the things I’ve gotten instead: The pains, the fevers, the lack of orientation when I’m leaving my darkness, the fatigue, the brain fog, the disability of comprehending things, the hypersensitivity to dealing with noises and lights, the lack of understanding from others…the list seems to be endless.
Every little thing too much results in another “crash” of my disease…and it’s getting worse every time. I’ve lost some friends over this period of time, my children have lost their active and funny mother and on some days, I’m trying to fight the thought away, that I’ve lost the sense of purpose in my life.
It’s only going downhill from here…further down into the darkness, which is now the only stability in my life. I’ve lost the grip on myself…the understanding of who I really am. What is left of myself?
Sure, I still haven’t lost my sense of sarcasm and my rather dark humour. I’m also sure, that I’m still an empathetic person, who’s interested in other’s thoughts and feelings. And maybe that’s exactly, what I should rely on. These are parts of my personality, which this goddamn disease ME/CFS hasn’t stolen from me.
The other thing, no one, not even ME/CFS, could ever take from me, is my love for Severus Snape. Since 21 years, I’m clinging to him, letting him comfort me and console my troubled heart and soul. He’s the one, who’s following me into the dark…being my unwavering companion in these rough times.
When I commissioned @madfantasy for this stunning piece of art, we’ve talked a lot about the meaning behind it. Mani, my dear friend, I’m beyond grateful for your understanding of the feelings, which I wanted to express with this artwork. I’ve never met anyone else in my entire existence, who had the ability to grasp every nuance of my emotions, transforming them into something so powerful…so creative…so beautiful!! You are such a gem of a soul and my heart swells with joy for being counted as your friend. I’m sending you my love! 🖤🖤🖤
🖤 Severus & Julia 🖤

That's right. I'm gonna post Stardew headcanons
Assigning Stardew Bachelors/Bachelorettes songs that I've played with my band
(I'm sorry Penny enjoyers, she's not here because I didn't have anything that would work for her)
Alex
Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz
We're starting strong with this one
I feel like he'd listen to it while he's working out. He totally listens to rock and a lot of it's subgenres
The song is fun to play, it's groovy (literally and metaphorically), and it just feels like him yk
Elliott
Don't Fear The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
I think he's existential. He's a writer, how can he not be??
Totally spiritual, he just doesn't talk about it
One of those people who has a very polite and respectful relationship with the concept of death
Harvey
Burnin' For You - Blue Oyster Cult
He listens to classic rock sometimes… he wants to feel cool
Really lonely, but he's chill about it (on the outside 🥀💔⛓️)
Dad bod brings dad energy
Sam
Greener - Tally Hall
HERE'S THAT PART AGAIN WHERE EVERYTHING'S WHERE IT SHOULD B-
He's so… early 2000s rock music
Dramatic teenage boy I swear
He'd probably listen to Tally Hall– that's probably what his music sounds like too– or Good Kid
I resisted the urge to mark him as Even Flow
Sebastian
Reptilia - The Strokes
Oh, he is edgy, and oh, how his heart aches
He makes sure no one is at home and just screams it out I just know it
If he did vocals he'd probably sound like Julian Casablancas– or at least have the same energy
He probably listens to The Strokes anyway, it's Alt Rock and he's 100% the alt part
Shane
Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
He is… so very sad
The song is about,, subjects… subjects that apply to him
He'd probably be an RHCP fan
Abigail
Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult
She's funny
She's a nerd, and she totally rocks the fuck out to this 😭
Probably tried to convince Sam and Sebastian to cover it, they absolutely agreed
Emily
Misery Fell - Tally Hall
She's weird and metaphorical
ABSOLUTELY one for peace and love and acceptance
Spiritual mom going through a midlife crisis - coded
Haley
Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears For Fears
I think it's very her in the sense that she's ambitious, but a little narrow minded
Probably listens to music in this style or from around this time for the aesthetic
This song has a really annoying structure, just like she's annoying to interact with before you gain her affection
Leah
Crooked Teeth - Death Cab For Cutie
She probably listens to Death Cab
Absolutely wrecked in her last relationship. She felt unloved, and, much like the song suggests, the relationship itself was going nowhere since neither party were really made for each other
She's so sweet and I love her like I love singing this song
Maru
Rio - Duran Duran
There's just something about it
I feel like she'd listen to Duran Duran to begin with
She's really unique– and special- she's very much different from the other Bachelorettes since almost all of them exist in my mind as the same archetype- like Rio, she is an individual

It was a bright, yet slow day at Family Video and Steve sighed as he stared at the clock at the wall, just wishing that time would fly by. The bell above the door jingled, grabbing his attention as he looked over. He watched as you walked in; a slight pep in your step. Sighing, Steve turned to the office in the back of the store, cupping the side of his mouth to be louder.
"Robin! You're girlfriend's here!" He called back, before placing his hands on the counter before him, giving you a lazy smile.
"Hey, Y/N. How's your afternoon going?" He asked and you simply smiled back, clasping your hands together behind your back as you rocked back and forth on the balls of your feet.
"Oh, you know... It's going. Boring day?" You asked and Steve nodded as you heard the office door open.
"Yeah, boring as hell. Please tell me you're renting something today." He practically begged and you just nodded your head.
"Yeah, I am, don't worry."
"Yeah, Harrington. Don't worry your pretty head about it." Robin quickly announced herself as she walked over to you, quickly making her way to your side and giving Steve a teasing smirk.
Steve only smirked back, pointing an accusing finger at her, "Ha! You called me pretty."
Robin only crossed her arms, rolling her eyes, "Yeah, pretty annoying." She replied, making you laugh lightly, covering your mouth with your hand as Steve turned to you with a look of betrayal.
“Y/N, I thought you’d at least be on my side here. Buckley’s being mean.” Steve pouted, looking like a wounded puppy.
You could only try and simmer your laughter as you shrugged, "I'm sorry, Steve, but I can't not laugh at her joke... She's funny."
Robin uncrossed her arms and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, looking down at you with half-lidded eyes, "Damn right I am. I'm hilarious." Looking very serious as you shook your head.
Your laughs quieted and you looked up at her with a small smile, "You think so?"
She gave you a nod, "Definitely. I mean, how can anyone not laugh when they hear something like that coming from my mouth?"
Steve only groaned, glaring at the two of you, but mostly at Robin. "I take it you'll be taking your break?" He asked and Robin nodded, not bothering to look up at him as she led you to the back office. Steve sighed, sitting back down in his crappy chair, and staring at the clock on the wall. He really wanted to go home.
Robin opened the door for you, turning on the small light as you lifted yourself up and sat down on the table in the middle of the room. You then watched as Robin walked to her locker, opened it, and grabbed a small brown paper bag. She then shut the locker with her hip, giving you a smile as she waved her paper bag in the air, walking over to you.
"Guess what I got for lunch?" She asked, taking a seat on the tabletop next to you.
You tilted your head slightly, a curious look on your face, "What?"
"Sandwiches." She said with a shrug and you couldn't help but chuckle, shaking your head in disbelief as you took the bag. Same thing as yesterday. "So, how was your day?" She asked, pulling out the sandwiches inside.
You shrugged, taking the saran-wrapped sandwich from her, "Same as yesterday, I suppose. Helped Mrs. Windlebergs put the returned books away, and finished my shift by helping a kid with the computer. Boring really." You mumbled, taking a bite of the sandwich. Cheese and salami, you noted.
Robin smiled fondly down at her sandwich, picking at the crust with her fingers, painted nails chipped. "Better than here. You get to be in a room full of books. You love that stuff. I’m jealous of you. I’d probably just read the books instead of putting them away." She said and you hummed, chewing before swallowing.
"Yes, you would do that," You agreed, looking up into her bright blue eyes. "I could pick you up a book after work tomorrow?" You offered only for Robin to shake her head, her foot nudging yours lightly.
"No, you don't have to do that, babe. But I appreciate the thought. I’m still trying to finish The Hobbit." She replied softly before finishing off her sandwich. "Always so book smart." She muttered thoughtfully, stuffing the saran wrap garbage into the paper bag before turning to you as you finished yours. "Another thing I find irresistible about you." She sighed, making you look up at her with wide eyes as you paused your chewing, and swallowed, looking down at your lap as your cheeks flushed.
You had been dating Robin for almost two years and you still were not used to her flirting. Or her compliments.
Babe, you look amazing. Why is my girlfriend so pretty?
You've got that little wrinkle between your brows when you're thinking hard or trying to decide what to eat. It is so cute.
Did you know every time I look at you the world stops? Crazy, right?
You never really knew what to say to her when she complimented you or anything. You'd just smile, thank her, or look away with very warm cheeks.
Rolling the crumby saran wrap into a ball, you tossed it into the open paper bag, Robin suddenly raised her hands in the air, "And she scores!" She cheered, making you laugh lightly before Robin nudged your foot with hers again. Her red beat-up Converse knocked into your black Doc Martens again, bringing your gaze from your shoes up to her. She said nothing, looking at you with a small frown.
"Are you alright?" She asked softly, her hand beside yours sliding closer her pinkie looping with yours, "You're pretty quiet today." She added, leaning in close to your face.
Your heart jumped slightly before you nodded, looking away. "I'm good. Just tired."
You both went silent for a moment, your hand gliding over hers; your thumb gently rubbing circles on Robin's soft skin; trying to convince her that you were, sort of, alright.
"Okay." She finally said, flipping her hand over for her fingers to intertwine with yours, "We can talk more later, okay?"
"Alright. Thank you." You whispered, closing your eyes as you felt her lean in, pressing her lips against yours softly, her touch lingering as she pulled away. You leaned forward, resting your forehead against hers, letting your eyes flutter shut as your lips brushed against her cheekbones. No matter how many times you kissed Robin, or she kissed you, you never got used to the feeling you'd get. As if there was electricity zapping through your veins, or as if little orange, white, and pink butterflies were stuck in your stomach; wanting to escape.
"You gotta get back... Don't you?" You asked softly, and Robin shook her head, her forehead rubbing against yours as she did so.
"Nah, Steve's fine without me. Give me five minutes with my amazing girlfriend." She muttered, and even with your eyes closed, you knew there was a small smirk on her face.
~~~
Leaning against the hood of your car, you crossed your arms as the cold winter breeze blew past you. You wished you had worn your coat, your Y/F/C sweater the only thing covering your arms from the harsh wind. At least your legs were semi-warm as you were smart enough to wear leggings under your sweats. As you heard footsteps approaching you, you stood up straight, looking over to see Steve leave the Family Video, giving you a smile when he noticed you.
"She's just grabbing her coat." He answered your silent question, only for Robin to push open the glass door a second later, looking at you, at Steve, and back.
"Awe, has my poor baby been standing in the cold, freezing her cute butt off and Harrington won't even let her borrow his jacket?" She cooed to you, giving you a small pout, quickly making her way to you, wrapping her arms around you as Steve gaped at her.
"Hey, if you must know, I was going to offer, but then you came out." Steve argued back jokingly, before walking to his car.
"Have a nice night, Y/N." He said as he passed you, "Don't let Robs ruin it." He muttered teasingly as Robin abruptly turned her head, her hair tickling your cheeks as she did so; her eyes glaring sharply at Steve's retreating figure.
She was about to yell something back at him, but you wrapped your arms around her waist, nuzzling your face into her chest, breathing in her scent of lemon and bergamot. Quickly relaxing you. Robin held you tighter as another sharp breeze went by, leaning down to rub her nose into your hair. You had gotten a new shampoo, she realized, before she closed her eyes.
"Can we go to your house?" You asked, voice slightly muffled, but you knew Robin heard you as she slowly unwrapped her arms from around your waist, sliding them up your biceps, rubbing them gently; warming you up.
She didn't speak for a while as she just looked at you, making your heart skip a beat, "Of course, sweetheart. You gonna stay over again tonight?" She then asked, taking one of your hands in hers, her finger tracing over your palm as she looked at you, waiting for you to answer.
"Yeah, I think so. If you want me to." You said with a shrug and watched as Robin rolled her eyes jokingly.
"Y/N, babe. If I could, you'd stay over every night." She teased, but you knew she was telling the truth, you felt the same. You never wanted to leave her side. She was your rock, your anchor. The only person who made you feel alive. Who gave you hope when things seemed hopeless.
Her blue eyes stared into yours as she brought your hand to her mouth, kissing your knuckles tenderly. Your breath hitched slightly as your eyes widened, your heart skipping a beat. You loved her so much. "Come on, you're freezing. Let's get you home. We have The Secret of NIMH to watch." She said, opening the driver's side door. You climbed into the seat, smiling as Robin closed the door for you and went to the passenger side, and got in. You started the engine, glancing at her once more before backing out of the parking space and driving off towards her house.
~~~
The drive to Robin's place wasn't long, only ten minutes, maybe fifteen tops, but it was an enjoyable ride nonetheless. You parked your car outside Robin's house, stepping out onto the pavement, Robin quickly making her way around the front of the car to take your hand in hers before walking up to the door. Fishing out her keys, she unlocked the door and let you inside first, shutting the door behind her as you took off your boots. Robin simply toed off her Converse before leaning against the wall, watching as you sat your shoes neatly by the door. She noticed that you did that every time you took your shoes off, a little quirk of yours. One of many she found incredibly adorable.
"Wanna watch on the big tv in the living room or the small tv in my room?" She asked, pushing off the wall. You bit your lip, glancing at the living room. Robin gently took your hand in hers, bringing your attention back to her, "Don't worry, parents won't be home until way later. But we can watch the movie wherever you are most comfortable." She quickly added and you nodded, making Robin smile.
Taking your hands in hers, she led you back toward the living room where you sat down on the plush cotton couch as Robin went to the kitchen for the snacks and drinks. You pulled your mismatched socked feet up onto the couch, wrapping your arms around your legs as you nestled your chin on your knees, letting out a big sigh.
Robin was everything to you, and you wanted nothing more than to introduce her to your parents as your girlfriend. But you were scared, scared that they wouldn't understand. They were kind, and always supportive of you no matter what. They even let you get a tattoo when you were seventeen. And yet… You couldn't help but wonder what they'd say if they found out you were bisexual. Would they be angry? Disappointed? Disgusted? All these thoughts kept running through your mind.
Robin suddenly walked back into the room, plopping down beside you, and handed you a bowl of popcorn. In her other hand was your favorite blanket of hers, it was made out of fleece, decorated with stripes of black and white. She spread the blanket across both of your laps, before placing her legs over yours as she cuddled closer to your side. Resting the bowl on her legs, you watched as Robin grabbed the tv remote and started the movie.
You really wanted to pay attention to the movie, since it was one of your favorites, but your mind was still racing. Robin seemed to have noticed this, and after a few moments of silence, she reached out to grab your hand gently on her knee, squeezing it reassuringly. "Hey," She whispered softly, as she began playing with a loose strand of your hair as you gazed down at your lap. "Is everything alright?" Your breath caught in your throat, and you blinked back tears. There was a lump forming in your throat as you swallowed thickly.
You finally got the courage to turn and look at her, nodding hesitantly before wiping your eyes, trying to hide your emotions as best as you could as Robin smiled lightly, bringing your hand to her lips as she pressed gentle kisses along the top of your palm before resting your hand in her lap. She waited patiently, her blue eyes scanning your features as she occasionally wiped away your tears as they fell down your cheeks.
You took in a deep breath, closing your eyes briefly before speaking, "I'm scared, Robby." You began, voice soft and full of emotion. And Robin knew that whatever you were feeling was important, obviously, but you hardly ever called her Robby. It worried her. Last time you called her Robby was back at the mall. When she was all looped out and unable to stand without getting dizzy. It was a hard memory to remember, but Robin could picture the terrified expression that you had on your face; tears on your cheeks, your eyes wide in fear. She never wanted to see you like that.
"Why, baby?" She asked you softly, rubbing the pad of her thumb against your cheek, her other hand still clutching yours.
"I am scared that my parents won't like you. I'm scared that if I tell them I'm bi they'll hate me and you. Or worse, they'll force me to break up with you. I don't want either of us to lose each other." You admitted a bit rushed, voice cracking as you finished speaking.
Robin frowned slightly, brushing your hair back from your forehead as she leaned forward, pressing a quick kiss to the middle of your furrowed brows. "Baby, you won't lose me. Never. I love you too much to lose you. Even if they don't like me, that won't make me leave you. I know how much you love them and I know how much they love you, too. Just think, they'll be happy that you're happy, right?" She encouraged, rubbing her thumb over your knuckles comfortingly.
You sighed softly, looking up into those beautiful ocean-blue eyes staring back at you, "Yeah, I guess you're right." You mumbled, causing Robin to beam.
"And we've been through worse together, right? You saved me from angry Russians and evil monsters. You're brave. You're strong. And you're my hero. We'll make it through anything.” Robin whispered as she leaned forward, pressing her forehead against yours.
"You say I'm your hero, but you are the one that saved me. If I ever lost you..." Your words faltered as you nuzzled your nose with hers gently.
Robin hummed, "You won't lose me. I believe in you, that you can do this," She quickly answered, her hands slowly wrapping around your waist. "Now watch the movie before I start tickling." She faux threatened, teasingly wiggling her fingers softly against your sweater, making you giggle.
Smiling softly, watching as Robin started the movie, the sound of the familiar sound of the movie started to fill the air again. Robin scooted closer to you, her legs overlapping yours again as she rested her head on your shoulder, fiddling with your hand in hers. You stayed there, with your best friend, your soulmate, watching TV in complete silence, just enjoying each other's company, and loving each other's warmth. You closed your eyes, relaxing into her hold, letting yourself fall into a deep sleep, wrapped up in her arms.
~~~
Only a couple of weeks later, you waited outside the Family Video for Robin, wearing her denim jacket with the cute patches. You stole it from her when you dropped her off at FV after she got out of school earlier in the day. Well, technically, Robin gave it to you since you always forget yours. You loved her jacket... It smelled just like her. You loved everything she wore. Even the Scoops uniform but you never told her that. You even had one of her shirts, an old gym shirt from freshman year.
Letting out a breath, you watched as your breath vapor swirled into the air, the cloudy, dull air. You stuffed your hands further into Robin's jacket pockets, pulling the denim tighter around yourself. A slight breeze blew past you causing your hair to dance across your face. You were right about to just sit in your warm car until she came out, watching as Robin rushed out of the store.
She dashed over and right into your arms, making you stumble back slightly into the passenger side door. Robin pulled back, holding you by your shoulders as she gave you a once-over. "Look at you, in my clothes," She teased with a smirk, wiggling her eyebrows at you as you tried to contain your smile, rolling your eyes.
"You were the one that gave it to me to wear, Robby-Bobby." You reminded her.
Robin slid her hands down your arms, stopping where they stayed on your waist. “We should get matching outfits. We’d be so cute.” She thought out loud only for you to tilt your head to the side slightly.
“Or maybe we stick to stealing each other’s stuff. I’m worried if we get any cuter we’d blind someone. Almost blinded Steve.” You joked and Robin just let out a laugh, shaking her head before slipping into the passenger seat, you then hopped into the driver's seat.
"Whatever you say. And please remember your jacket. It's going to snow soon and I don't want to have to take care of a sick girlfriend," She scolded lightly, putting your favorite cassette into the player. You just shrugged, starting the engine before pulling out of the parking lot.
“So you don’t want me to wear your jacket?” You asked and Robin huffed, putting her feet up on the dash.
“Babe, if it was possible, my clothes would be the only thing you wear.” You wished you could hide your blushing cheeks.
As you began to drive to Robin's, your eyes widened. You quickly turn to Robin once you stop at a red light, "Robs, I have to go to mine real quick. I forgot my notebook." You spoke and Robin just gave you a confused smile.
"You forgot your notebook? You never do that." She replied with furrowed brows while you just shook your head, turning back to watch the light.
"I know, I know, it just slipped my mind after I grabbed my bag. I'll be back soon though, okay?" Robin just nodded, before she leaned over the middle console.
"Fine," She sighed dramatically, gazing at your side profile as you continued to watch the light, "Kiss?" She asked softly, pouting her lips slightly, you glanced at her and at the light once more before you turned to her and quickly pecked her on the lips. As you pulled away, Robin smiled and placed her hand on yours, intertwining your fingers together on the middle console. As the light turned green, you began driving down the road, taking a few turns before you pulled up into your driveway.
Turning off the engine, you let out a sigh, leaning back against the seat. Robin squeezed your hand lightly, drawing your attention to her as she gave you a reassuring smile. "I'll be here when you get back. I'll be jamming out to Cyndi Lauper." She spoke and you nodded, returning her smile before you took your hand back, albeit reluctantly, and grabbed the door handle. Hearing a knock on the window, you looked up, jolting back slightly as you placed your hand on your chest. Your mother gave you a small smile, gesturing for you to open the window.
Cranking the window down, you furrowed your eyebrows as you looked up at her, "Geez, mom, you scared the heebie jeebies out of me."
She just gave you a shrug, leaning down to pass you your notebook, "I saw you left this at home. Thought I'd save you the trip of going inside." Your mother then turned her attention to Robin beside you, giving her a warm smile. "And you must be my daughter's friend. Robin, right?" She asked and Robin gave her a small smile with a nod. Your mother's smile widened as she gushed, "Oh, she talks so much about you. Thank you for putting up with her. I know how troublesome she gets." Your mother then teased you, making you duck your head in embarrassment.
"There’s no need to worry, Mrs. L/N. Never take my eyes off of her." She joked which made your cheeks blush furiously while your mom laughed heartily, clapping her hands together happily.
"Well, you two have fun! Don't stay up too late. Oh! And I'll bring some muffins over tomorrow morning!" Your mom added, “You’re mom likes my chocolate ones best, right?” She asked Robin who nodded again.
“Yes, ma’am.” She saluted, making your mother smile widely.
“Alright, you get going. I have to get back to my Scrabble. I’m beating your father.” She finished cheerfully, waving you both goodbye as she headed back into the house and you rolled the window back up.
It was quiet between the two of you for a while, you staring down at your lap, fiddling with the edges of your notebook as Robin stared ahead. Robin licked her lips, swallowing as she spoke, "I'm your friend?" She asked quietly and you quickly turned to her to answer.
"You are my best friend, but you are more than that, Robin." You were quick to hold her hand, her hair blocking the side of her face from your sight. "I just haven't gotten there yet. But, they will know, soon, honey." Robin just nodded her head, biting her lip as her eyes began to tear up. Slowly looking up, your small smile fell immediately when you saw her frown and teary eyes. "Hon..." Your words died as Robin's tears finally fell down her cheeks.
She reached up with her other hand to quickly wipe them away, sniffling as she let out a sad sigh. "I'm just upset." She answered simply.
"With me?" You asked, guiltily, only for Robin to shake her head.
"No, I am just being selfish. I'm- I'm upset with myself. I want you to come out to your family, but it's unfair to ask that of you if I couldn't even do that myself. I feel frustrated with myself... Disappointed in myself. I know I say I don't mind what they think about us, but it’s not like you have to tell them. I’m not the boss of you. I'm sorry." Her voice trailed off as she bit her lip nervously.
A long pause filled the air, as you stared at your girlfriend with wide eyes, "Robin," You began, reaching out and grabbing her hand again, pulling yourself closer. Your own eyes threatened to tear up as you before she spoke,
"We should get going," She muttered, breaking the silence. "I think I should just go home today. We can study another day." She finished, looking up at you with her eyes still glassy and wet.
Your entire being filled with dread as she let go of your hand and stared down at her lap. "Are you sure?" You asked, hoping to god that she wasn't breaking up with you.
Robin nodded as she picked at her nail polish, "Yeah, just don't think I'll be able to pay attention and get any homework done tonight, is all." She mumbled and you nodded, twisting the key and starting the engine.
The two of you said nothing as the radio played soft music. You didn't know what to say to make things better. You had no clue where you could start, or how to help her feel better. You parked in her driveway and she unbuckled her seatbelt. You were quick to get out of the car and rush to her side, opening the door for her as she stepped out. She was already halfway to the front door when you shut the door. You could see her shoulders trembling as you made your way to her side. she turned to look up at you, her blue eyes shining with tears. Her bottom lip trembled as she then looked down at her feet.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow?" You asked, more like a question as Robin grabbed her keys from her pocket.
"Alright," She answered softly, as she unlocked the door.
You watched as she went to grab the door handle but you stopped her, "Robin," She looked up at you, eyes still glossy as you bit your lip and quickly looked around the small neighborhood. Finding no one, you were quick to lean in and kiss her on the cheek. "Goodnight, Ro," You whispered, pulling away and giving her one last smile before heading towards your house. You didn't miss the small smile that crossed her face as you made your way back to your car.
~~~
"I don't know, Robs, I think you're fine," Steve said on the other line, Robin holding her phone to her ear as she lay on her bed. "You said she kissed you goodnight, so I doubt she'd break up with you."
Robin sighed as she rubbed her face with her other hand, "I don't even know why I'm talking to you. You're terrible with women and advice." She mumbled making Steve scoff.
"She is not going to break up with you, Robin. Plain and simple. It was just one fight- actually I don't even think this counts as a fight." Steve pondered to himself more than to Robin.
Robin gave a hum of an acknowledgment as she sat up in her bed and brought her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them and burying her face in her legs.
“You know she is obsessed with you, right. I think she still sleeps with that shirt you gave her.” Steve revealed, making her body freeze as a small smile grew on her face. Her free hand moved beside her where she kept one of your shirts as a pillowcase.
"You're probably right, Steve. But I still feel guilty." She answered, her smile turning back into a frown.
"It's alright to feel that way, Buckley. What matters is that you love her and she loves you. Tomorrow, talk about it some more. Communication is key in every relationship.” Steve explained and Robin nodded. She was quick to hang up the phone, before digging her head back into her legs, Fleetwood Mac's 'Say You Love Me,' playing through her small speaker.

Robin shrugged on her coat as she pushed out the door of Family Video. Looking up, she paused, adjusting her fuzzy collar to stare at the empty parking spot. Her heart plummeted from her chest into her stomach. You weren't there. You usually were early, five minutes to be exact, and now it was a quarter after five; the snow falling softly from the sky, piling on the sidewalk, and you weren't there. Steve furrowed his eyebrows from his seat in his car, turning to Robin, he opened his window.
"Want me to give you a ride?" He called to her, and Robin sighed, already feeling the snow melt and wet her shoes to her socks. Maybe you're just late, yeah...
It's a lot of snow. She might've not been able to get out of the driveway. But... She would've called...
Wordlessly, Robin stepped off the sidewalk, leading to Steve's parked car when your car quickly pulled into the parking lot. She watched, shocked as you parked the car, and quickly got out. Your feet made prints in the snow as you rushed over to Robin. She noticed the determination in your eyes as you stopped in front of her, turning to look at Steve from his seat in his car.
Glaring at the young man, you pointed your finger at him, "I love you but back off my lady, Harrington. She's got her ride." You ordered and Steve chuckled from his seat, shaking his head as you then turned to Robin, looking up at her before looping your finger through the belt loops of her jeans, making her stumble into you. In one swift move, you leaned up and pressed your lips against her gently, yet passionately; sending Robin in a dreamy daze. Robin was quick to pull you close to her, her eyes fluttering shut as she wrapped her arms around your neck. She kissed you back, your sudden confidence surprising her.
You could barely hear Steve groaning from behind the wheel. You broke apart when Steve cleared his throat. The both of you blushed as you pulled away from each other. "PDA to a minimum, please," Steve begged with a small smile before he pulled out of the parking lot.
Robin looked down at you with a smirk, her fears vanquished, "Wow, where did that all come from?" She asked cheekily as she watched your face flush, your eyes widened in embarrassment.
"I just wanted to make sure you knew that I love you." You mumbled shyly, watching as the snow fell upon her; her hair sprinkled with snowflakes. "You look pretty today." You muttered, only for Robin to laugh lightly.
"And I'm not always?" Robin smiled at you, placing your hand on your cheek, stroking your jaw tenderly with her thumb.
"Yeah, but somehow your beauty grows each time I look at you," You added, leaning in and pressing another gentle kiss to her lips.
Robin hummed, "Oh, how the tables have turned. So, miss cheesy pants... Why do I feel like you did something troublesome?" She asked, incredibly captivated by you as her lips softly caressing against yours..
"I didn't do anything." You muttered before pulling away and taking her hand. "Now, come on. I don't want to have to take care of a sick girlfriend." You finished, mimicking her words from just weeks ago, making Robin laugh; her stomach filled with butterflies.
You opened the door for her and quickly got into the driver's seat and pulled out of the parking lot. The car ride was quiet, except for the radio as you drove slowly, wary of ice. At a light, Robin grabbed your hand from the steering wheel, taking it in hers as she placed it on her thigh, interlacing your fingers together, her thumb tapping the skin of your hand softly to the beat of the current song. You glanced at her briefly, seeing her stunning smile before returning your focus to the road, your heart racing wildly in your chest.
Robin tapped along to the beat of the song as she listened to you begin to hum along. She always loved when you sang in the car. She thought your singing was beautiful. She loved the days when you and her just rocked out in the car, singing along to the song you both loved as you drove around the town. But, Robin especially loved it when you stayed the night and you both were cuddling in her bed. Her head resting on your chest as you ran your fingers through her hair; singing a soft lullaby. Another remarkable thing she loved about you.
Looking up from the two of your hands, Robin's fond smile faltered slightly as she watched you pull up into your driveway. Parking the car, Robin noticed the slightly anxious expression on your face, but you were quick to give her a breathtaking smile. "You hungry?" You asked and Robin pursed her lips as she furrowed her eyebrows.
Looking at your house and back to you, Robin spoke, "Why are we at your house?" She asked, and you simply ignored her question, hopping out of the car and going around to open her side. Robin stepped out and watched as you looked everywhere but her as you quickly grabbed her hand and led her to the front door. The closest to your house that she's ever been. She then watched as you fidgeted in your spot, your left foot digging into the concrete as you shook your free hand at your side. Suddenly, before Robin could speak, you looked up at her.
"My mom is making her special meatloaf and soup." Was all you could say, your voice stumbling slightly as Robin just stared at you with a very confused expression.
You opened the door, and stepped into the house, pulling Robin in with you. She watched as you shut the front door, taking off your boots and setting them by the door. Robin slowly, beyond confused at this point, slowly toed off her shoes, setting them beside yours. You then turned back to her and let out a breath before speaking in a small whisper. "I also want to apologize for yesterday-"
Robin began to shake her head, "No, that was all me-"
"Robin. I am sorry." You interrupted her, taking her hands in yours as you looked up into her wide blue eyes. "I am sorry that I made you ever think that I would break up with you about this."
Robin raised her eyebrows, "How- how did you know I was worried about that?" She stumbled over her words, and you bit your lip briefly, glancing at the clock on the wall.
"Steve. He called last night." You answered and Robin groaned, glaring at the ground, noticing your mismatched socks. How cute.
"I'm gonna kill him." She muttered and you shook your head.
"No, Rob, you know he means well. If it helps, I called him a jerk." You finished and Robin sighed, looking up at you, her glare softening completely the moment she looked into your eyes.
"Now, here's the plan." You began, voice still considered a whisper as you leaned in closer to Robin, "We're going to go in there, and I am going to tell them." Robi opened her mouth to protest but you shook your head, "No, hon, I've made my mind up. I am telling them and there is nothing you can do about it. And if they don’t accept us then we’re moving to The Netherlands."
Robin's eyes widened and a small smile grew on her lips, "Your mom was right... You are trouble."
"The best kind." You shrugged, surprising yourself as your eyes widened and you covered your mouth.
"You're getting all shy now? You had such confidence earlier in the parking lot." Robin laughed, trying to stay quiet as she was beginning to smell something good cooking in the kitchen.
"Shush, let's go before I explode." You answered before you began walking to where Robin presumed was the kitchen. She was quick to follow you, taking note of the framed photos of your parents with you at various stages of life. Getting a bit distracted, Robin paused at a photo of you as a baby, holding some weird plush bear with a missing eye and ear. She wondered if you still had that bear. Or even the pale pink baby blanket at your feet. Looking back at baby you, she noticed your little smile, not even looking at the camera as you wore a yellow onesie. You were such a cute baby.
You, on the other hand, gained your parents' attention, both of them finishing up dinner. "Mom, dad... This is-" You paused, looking over to see Robin was gone. Darn her ADHD. Stalking over, you grabbed Robin's arm and pulled her into the entranceway of the kitchen with you, surprising her slightly as she stumbled into your side. You then looked up at Robin before slipping your hand in hers and turning to your parents once more. "Mom, dad, this is Robin... My girlfriend. I like girls and boys." You said, confidently.
It was eerily silent in the kitchen aside from the boiling of the soup pot on the stove. Your mother just stared at you as your father nodded and went back to chopping the veggies. Your heart plummeted and you felt Robin squeeze your hand gently, scooting closer to you.
"We know, dear. Well, we knew you liked the girls part, that's for sure." She let out a laugh, your jaw dropping as you stared at her.
"Huh?" You exclaimed, Robin’s expression on her face very similar to yours as she looked at you and your parents.
Your mother hummed, looking off at the cream walls as if she was remembering something. "When you had those barbie dolls, you had a ballerina Barbie, an Olympic champion sort of Barbie, and some Ken doll. And you'd always made the two barbies kiss. Ken was always on the floor, face down, looking dead…"
You blinked, you didn't remember any of that, but you did remember the dolls, specifically when ballerina Barbie's, (you called her Dolly), arm fell off and you screamed bloody murder. "I was like seven. So you knew for twelve years?" You asked, as your mother hummed again and nodded.
"That sounds about right, your father and we have been waiting for when you would bring someone home. Your father won that bet. And you bringing up Robin all the time made us figure that you two were possibly together.”
You gaped at your mother and narrowed your eyes slightly, "When did you figure that one out? And you betted on me?" You asked as your father finally spoke up.
"I knew you liked her the moment you ranted about your plan on picking her up from school and work every day." He spoke, setting the now dirty in the sink. "I watch all those crime shows, so I knew from day two." He finished and your mother scoffed, softly hitting him with a dish rag.
"I knew it when she was still in school, David. Remember when she came home that one time and showed us her yearbook, I saw the little hearts she drew over Robin's picture." She jested, only for your eyes to widen comically wide as Robin chuckled under her breath.
"You saw that?" You let out, as your mother nodded.
"Yes, dear. Now, Dave, are those carrots done? We have a guest." Your mother then quickly turned to your father, the two getting lost in their own conversation as you looked like a fish out of water.
Robin placed a finger under your chin, pushing it closed. "You'll catch flies, babe."
You breathed out a laugh, looking away from your parents and turning to Robin with a huge smile. Robin matched your smile, taking her time to move a strand of your hair out of your face. You took a hold of her hand, pressing it into your cheek as you closed your eyes. "I can't believe it." Robin muttered softly, as you opened your eyes, moving her hand over your mouth where you pressed a kiss to her palm.
"I can't believe it either, but then again we did fight interdimensional demons." You joked, as Robin's cheeks reddened, feeling slightly embarrassed.
"Yeah, yeah. You are soooo funny." She grumbled teasingly, dragging her words along, as you just smirked up at her.
"Damn right I am, I'm hilarious."
Robin said nothing but smiled, leaning forward to peck your lips lightly. "I love you, you know." She whispered before she leaned back again.
"I love you too, Robin." You replied, smiling admiringly at her. She grinned, her nose scrunching adorably as she gave you another kiss.
~~~
“You drew hearts over my yearbook picture?”
“I hate you.”
“Liar.”
Since I am in the middle of exams period now, I'm thinking about a s5/6 canon divergent universe with Ian becoming an EMT while he's with Mickey. How do you think Mickey would have helped Ian study for his EMT exams?
Tumblr media
I'm just on my way out the door to see Death Cab for Cutie so this is going to be brief, but:
Firstly, I love love love when we see Ian learning what to look out for during the primary assessment of a casualty, going through the DCAP-BTLS acronym while doing push ups. (Even though he makes a - canonically nonintentional, I assume - mistake, as the B stands for Burns, not Bruises - according to anything I've ever learnt).
It's well documented that exercise can increase your brain's readiness to absorb and retain information, and it's SUCH an Ian way of learning. I absolutely adore it!!
Now, I do not think that Mickey would be down with doing any actual exercising, but damn would he be happy to watch and egg Ian on from the side-lines. Probably while holding the flash cards or Ian's EMT Training text books (with the answers in the back). He would also love nothing more than interrupting and correcting while using his most obnoxious drill sergeant voice, jeering “Eeeerr! Wrong Gallagher! Drop and give me 20, and then try again!” every time Ian makes a mistake - You bet Mickey wouldn't let him get away with the B for Bruises nonsense! haha
Other ways in which Mickey would help:
Treats. We know from various breakfast scenes that Ian has a sweet tooth and that Mickey has been known to go out of his way to procure Ian's favourite snacks from his favourite bakery, so Mickey sure as hell would do that to keep Ian on track with his studying, too!
Bigger rewards. Let’s say that for some reason Ian is really struggling with something like burns for example. While he remembers the names of the three layers of skin he occasionally confuses their order, which means he can't list the 4 types of burns without stumbling and having to start over, and even when he names them all he's not 100% certain whether he’s correct or not, and it's frustrating the hell out of him. He normally doesn't struggle so much and why is it so hard for him to remember a partial thickness burn?? Mickey realises that neither snide remarks nor donut treats are really going to cut it here, so he makes Ian a deal. It's Thursday morning, so if Ian can correctly list all layers of the skin, all 4 burn classifications, standard techniques for treating burns on the scene, and names 5 or more circumstances under which a burn victim always needs to be taken to A&E (Mickey remembers the one about burned genitals, cause it's funny as fuck!) - if he does all that correctly, three times, before Saturday night, then on Sunday they'll do something - anything Ian wants - from Ian's list... (Do you think Ian and Mickey don't keep a list? Of course they each keep a list 😏)
Strip Pop Quiz. It's basically like Strip Poker, except it involves flash cards, and every time Ian gets an answer right Mickey has to remove a piece of clothing, every time Ian gets an answer wrong, Ian has to remove... "Whoa whoa whoa! Hang on a minutes there, Maverick! How is that helpful? All that's gonna do is make us both end up naked, and then we'll bang, and you don't learn nothing!" Mickey complains. Ian screws up his face, considering. Mickey has a point actually. So instead, if Ian gets an answer right Mickey has to remove a piece of clothing. If Ian gets an answer wrong, Mickey puts a piece of clothing back on. Muuuuuch better incentive. Ian makes sure to study hard so he can get Mickey down to his epidermis in the quickest possible way. Makes it much easier for Ian to remember skin layers, too! Win win.
i had a room to myself as a kid, but my mother was always quick to point out that it wasn't my room, it was her room and i was merely permitted to occupy it. her point, of course, was that my parents had earned everything and i was merely borrowing the space, and while this is technically true i cannot help but marvel at the singular damage of this dark idea: that my existence as a child was a kind of debt and nothing, no matter how small, was mine. that no space was truly private; anything of mine could be forfeited at someone else's whim. in the dream house, by carmen maria machado.
i'm a strange new kind of inbetween thing aren't i / not at home with the dead nor with the living. antigonick, by anne carson.
7 + 1 twenty one pilots ask
i was tagged by @dasloddl!! ty!!
1. when/how did you discover them? + what was the first song you listened to? - either on the radio or on yt or at work or something like that, sometime in 2015. idk which song exactly but lets be honest, it was prolly stressed out 😅 or one of the other blurryface singles
2. have you been to any concert(s)? - no 😭 i totally would've seen them on the icy tour but they didn't come to my city 😭 but i'm hoping to go to at least one show on the next tour (either vancouver or, failing that, seattle), and hopefully also the DC show with my bestie!!
3. do you remember where you were when trench dropped (if you were a fan by then)? - weirdly, yes! it was like 9pm on october 4th, i was at home and got a spotify notification that twenty one pilots had released a new album. i listened to the first three songs, went "ehh", and stopped there 😅 which, in hindsight, is so tragic bc if i'd held out for just one more song i would've gotten to my blood, which is one of my absolute favourites!
4. favourite thing about the clique? - how smart and kind and inclusive everyone is!! like i know the clique's got it's share of toxic fans, just like any other fandom/community in general, but esp here on tumblr absolutely everyone i've met/interacted with has been sososo friendly and funny and smart and cool <3
5. any memorable/funny/interesting quote (from interviews/bts footage/…) you especially like? - i'm so bad at thinking up stuff like this off the cuff sldjskdljf there's always smth i think of later that i wish i'd said instead. for right now i'm gonna go with "two happy boys" (or any of the "two ____ boys" riffs that they do), as well as every single story abt how they met 😂
6. what would you want to ask/tell them if you got the chance? - FREAKING. SO MUCH. i'd want to thank them for rewarding us for looking deeper and caring more and sticking around. i'd want to tell them how what they've done w the dema/trench storyline is legitimately incredible and groundbreaking and to, in their own words, "never put a ceiling on their dreams". i'd also want to talk to them for roughly 6 hours abt death cab for cutie bc i Need To Know their thoughts abt literally everything sdlfkjsdkfl
7. which tattoo would you like to know the meaning of (if you do)? - i'm honestly fine w not knowing the meaning to any of their tattoos, bc i know they're v personal, but if i could know the meaning of one and have it be totally okay and willingly shared, it would be, for tyler, the symbols tattoo on the side of his forearm, and for josh, the astronaut-getting-beamed-up tattoo on his bicep.
+1. dasloddl's question for me: which album cover do you like best? - excellent question!! even tho i do love SAI's aesthetic, i think i'd have to go with blurryface on this one. there's just so much meaning behind it!! the pull-out blurry face is genius, the patterns are so fun, it's simple yet evocative. just, stellar art design.
additional question you want to ask the people you tagged: what do you think the genre/vibe of the next album is going to be?
aaaaand i am tagging @mx-misty-eyed @melxncholyman @timedyne @gonerbird and @re4lize-th4t-its-g0ne!!
~What song they would sing to you~
(Includes: Diluc, Bennett, Thoma, Zhongli, Albedo, Itto, Gorou, Tighnari, Alhaitham, Kaveh, Baizhu, Xiao, Kazuha, Venti, Heizou, Wanderer, Kaeya, Chongyun, Mika, Ayato, Childe, Xingqiu, Cyno, and Razor!)
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Diluc:
♪~Ghost Town: By Benson Boone~♪
He'd try any way to get out of singing to you, it's not that he's embarrassed, he's just scared you'll end up not liking what you're hearing. He sounds amazing though and each lyric is sung with so much soul...
Bennett:
♪~Walking On Sunshine: By Katrina and The Waves~♪
He walks up to the mic and just let's loose singing happily, dancing around without a care in the world...till he gets wrapped up in the wire and falls off the stage, the thought was sweet though! His singing wasn't horrible either!
Thoma:
♪~Dont Stop Believing: By Journey~♪
He is extremely red in the face, the entire time before singing saying that he's going to sound terrible...but as soon as he you realize that's not even close to true. He sounds perfect and he adds extra emphasis to the chorus.
Zhongli:
♪~Hallelujah: By Leonard Cohen~♪
When he sings it's like you can see the story playing out in front of you, it makes you wonder if he experienced anything like it. He sounds wonderful, his voice slightly lower than normal and it made your heart beat faster.
Albedo:
♪~Rewrite The Stars: Sung By Zac Efron and Zendaya~♪
He sings the song a bit slower than the original almost like a acoustic version and he's slightly awkward, but he sounds good. Through out the entire song his eyes are on you and at the end he thanks you for giving him the courage to try.
Itto:
♪~Thats What Makes You Beautiful: By One direction~♪
He goes all out, screaming the chorus loudly and putting a hand on his heart as the song comes to a close. He doesn't sound...the best, but he's so funny and cheerful that it doesn't matter.
Gorou:
♪~Just The Way You Are: By Bruno Mars~♪
He's so shy when it starts that he messes up the words, but after you give him a reassuring smile he forgets his stage fright and sings the best he can, he doesn't sound bad either! In fact he does really well and gestures to you whenever he gets to the chorus, making you blush heavily.
Tighnari:
♪~Time Bomb: By Zach Gordon~♪
He teased you till you'd sing, now it was his turn and he wasn't happy about it, everything sounded to loud, he already had a headache from the horrid singers before the two of you. However...he sang really well and it was like he had a special connection to the song. It made your heart flutter.
Alhaitham:
He refuses to sing, claiming there's no point in it other than for entertainment and reading a novel would give the same effect. He did say he that if he were to sing it wouldn't be anything sappy or romantic, most likely something classical and short.
Kaveh:
♪~Uptown Girl: By Billy Joel~♪
He's a absolute blast, his singing isn't perfect but he puts so much effort into the song and into his dance moves. By the end he's completely out of breath and your stomach hurts from laughing, your face is red with a blush.
Baizhu:
♪~Leaving On A Jet Plane: By John Denver~♪
He sings so softly, taking deep breaths between most of the lyrics and you can't help but worry about his song choice. He had soul...and he would sound good if there wasn't so many pauses...was he really going to be okay?
Xiao:
♪~Perfect For Me: Sung By Justin Timberlake~♪
At first he said he wouldn't take part in such a mortal activity, but eventually with enough convincing and promised almond tofu, he eventually agreed. You were in pure shock...he sounded amazing and despite the song being a sad one...he somehow sang it like a love song.
Kazuha:
♪~I Will Follow You Into The Dark: By Death Cab For Cutie~♪
His voice is very gentle and he sings so slowly, you could fall asleep to it, not to mention how good he actually sounds. Poetry and the art of sword fighting are just some of the many things he's amazing at.
Venti:
♪~Tale As Old As Time: Celine Dion~♪
Not only did he play his lyre but he sang so wonderfully, it was right out of a story book and you cheered for him when it was over. Little did you know you were his inspiration.
Heizou:
♪~Perfect: By Ed Sheeran~♪
It was a cheesy song choice and he knew that, but it was one of the few he knew all the words to. He sang it pretty well too, even grabbing your hand and dancing with you while he sang.
Wanderer:
♪~Walls: By Louis Tomlinson~♪
He tried every way possible to get out of singing, saying he'd rather eat garbage then sing a song, but in the end he'd been dared and now he had too. He actually put more effort into it then you expected and as he sang...you could tell he was truly feeling the emotions of the song.
Kaeya:
♪~Sexy And I Know It: By LMFAO~♪
You were dying of laughter, your blush redder than a tomato as he sang directly to you the ENTIRE song. Not to mention his dancing...that was questionable. He truly knew how to do a show and he winked at the end...
Chongyun:
♪~Flashlight: By Hailee Steinfeld~♪
He's completely blushed the entire time as he sings the sappiest song you'd ever heard and afterwords he had to eat three popsicles just to calm down...but it was all very cute.
Mika:
♪~Somebody To You: By The Vamps/Demi Lovato~♪
He was so nervous he could barely sing and although the song was one he knew...he messed up every word, he didn't sound very good but the emotion in the song was there!
Ayato:
♪~Thousand Years: By Christina Perri~♪
You were shocked by his song choice at first, but as he slowly sang the whole song you fell absolutely in love with him all over again. He sounded incredible and afterwords the two of you slow danced.
Childe:
♪~What A Man Gotta Do: By The Jonas Brothers~♪
You couldn't help but smile the entire time as he sang, he was enjoying himself and he sounded pretty good! He was also fairly animated, clearly used to entertaining others and it only made the whole situation that much better.
Xingqiu:
♪~Dandelions: By Ruth B~♪
He sang so gracefully, each note hit perfectly on time and in key...it was beautiful, thoughtful. He had a light blush on his face but the entire time he smiled showing his true feelings through music.
Cyno:
♪~All I Want Is You: By Barry Louis Polisar~♪
The song was a little silly, with more puns then you'd usually like, but the way he sang it also made it feel...romantic? Somehow it became a very special song to you both and he hums it sometimes while at work.
Razor:
♪~Count On Me: By Bruno Mars~♪
He's not the best at talking, so singing really isn't his strong suit but he tried very hard and in the end he sounded adorable. He may not have remembered some of the words and he definitely wasn't in key...but he picked the song just for you.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
So I’m planning a To hell with you sequel, (or maybe a comic version-). But I wanted to write a filler like episode in between. It could be read by itself, but I thought it be a filler. Hope you enjoy!
Just memories
“No way angel, you still have that Walkman I gave you?” Crowley snorted when he put his glasses on Aziraphale’s desk as he reads listening to his Walkman. “They stop making them back in two-thousand ten.”
“Well it ah more convenient” Aziraphale said shrugging. “I mean, I can listen to my musics while I’m on the go, can you imagine me carrying my Gramophone everywhere where just to hear my favorites down SoHo or by St. James park? Truly Crowley that would be terrible troublesome” Aziraphale chortled even thinking of such bizarre imagination.
“I’m just saying, you should invest in a mobile. That twice as convenient as a Walkman angel.” Crowley said picking it up a little. “What song are you even playing on this anyway?”
“Well. I change time to time. From Nina Simone, Elton John, ABBA, and more.”
“Elton John? You surprise me Angel. Would’ve thought you listen to instrumentals or snooze-fest all your life.”
“You Wily Serpent!” Aziraphale snickered as he’d lightly nudged Crowley. “You don’t hear me talking down about your uh bebops now do I?”
“Bastard” Crowley snickered. “But, I’m happy my uh gift from that day hold up.” He smiles putting the Walkman down. “Would’ve thought you stop using it.”
“Why would I? It was a gracious gifts. Also, it remind me of that night you know.” Aziraphale smiled looking at the Walkman. “I mean granted everything you have ever given me is delightful no matter how much you have how much I dote on it. I just, happy to have something to remind me of that wonderful night.”
They couldn’t have prevented their face from turning any redder. That night at the concert was indeed a night to remember even if it was back in the eighties. That night was filled with surprises, starting with aziraphale actually wanting to go with him to a rock concert all the way to when they kissed each other on the cheeks. Even more surprising is Aziraphale actually liking music that wasn’t from Mozart or Beethoven. Now, Aziraphale doesn’t go to all due to how loud they are and the setting can be overstimulating for him even with his Walkman; and Crowley would never ask him to go out of his comfort zone. Then again he wouldn’t dare to put him in a situation that would leave him in distress. So to him, it made him appreciate Aziraphale holding onto treasure memories.
“F-funny, I got you something.” Crowley said pulling something out of his pocket. It was wrapped in yellow wrapping. “Thought you might like them. Some are similar or some you might wanna try.”
“I thought you said-“
“Just a demonic miracle, angel” Crowley smirked as he (Aziraphale) opens up the gift. “I-if you don’t like it, I can uh always make them disappear.”
Aziraphale look at some of them. One of them called “I’ll follow you into the dark” by Death Cab for Cutie. Aziraphale tilted his head and softly snicker at the name. He then flip one over to the other small cassette this one called, “Just the two of us” by Grover Washington Jr. Aziraphale technically does have a record disc for his gramophone, would play it whenever he read his romances novels just picturing him and Crowley. Just the two of them. He smiled longingly. He then flip again to another cassette, “Your Song” by Elton John. He own two other cassette, one was “don’t go breaking my heart” and “goodbye yellow-brick road”. But your song he never exactly heart.
“Oh Crowley, thank you. Thank you.” Aziraphale said smiling. “However I’m not familiar with Death Cab for Cuties or even your song by Elton John.”
“Well, I try to pick songs that might be similar to songs you usually pick. But since you that picky I just choose these three to be safe.” Crowley said rubbing his head as his glasses was suddenly back on.
“Silly, why didn’t you just ask me” Aziraphale chuckled. “It could’ve help out-“
“Well maybe I wanted to surprise you. You usually like surprises.” Crowley said as he rolled his eyes behind his shades.
“Oh come on now, you don’t need to hide yourself” aziraphale scoffed as he toke off his glasses to see his favorite sunny eyes. “Thank you Anthony. I greatly appreciate it.” He then leaned over to press a soft kiss in the cheek. How crowley didn’t melt was a mystery even for himself.
“S-shush you!” Crowley said trying to turn away.
“Never” Aziraphale said as he giggled. Crowley couldn’t help but join in on his laughing. Hearing this contagious laughter was always his highlight of his day; his joyfulness was what he look forward too whenever they met again amongst other things. Then again, seeing him smile overall was what brighten his day.
“Well then” Crowley said as he wiped his tears. “Why don’t we head over to that restaurant you wanted to try, heard a table of two is miraculously opened for us.”
“Oh that’s delightful. Imma start bringing my Walkman! Maybe I can listen to the new songs! Come on.” Azirpahale said as he grabbed on some cassette and his Walkman as they head out the door. Laughter still filled the memories.
Right. Only just memories now.
how he wished he can relive that moment. Right now, he’s laying his head on his desk looking at his Walkman, tears streamed down his face yet no wails can be heard. Aziraphale can’t muster anything. He just feel numbed.
He look to his right and saw one cassette he never got to play. “I’ll follow you into the dark” by death cab for cutie.
“Right.” He said as he wiped his golden tears. “Never got to tell him I….” He gulped to push down more that’s coming up. “Well.. it wouldn’t matter regardless I suppose. But a listen won’t hurt right?”
So he proceeds to open up the Walkman and remove the song “don’t go breaking my heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee. He scoffs as he hide the cassette inside his cluttered desk and place inside the new cassette. He put on his headphones and pressed play, and this time he couldn’t hold back as the song plays.
Reference to where the Walkman came from.
Chapter 18 - Brown eyes, I hold you near [Chishiya x Reader]
"You broke your nose. It happens."
"To who?"
"Boxers?"
"You didn't just say that."
"What?"
"You are telling me "ohhhhh, it happens" as if breaking my nose was the most normal thing in the world and when I ask, my dear, my love, my sweetheart, light of my life, my moon, my stars, who does that happen to… You say people who literally punch each other's faces for a living!?"
Chishiya chuckled, and Kuina burst into laughter. But you were not laughing at all. Your nose was broken, which meant it was crooked, which meant you looked ugly. And one would believe looking ugly should have been the least of your concerns in a place where you were doomed to die if you didn't play stupid, psychotic games. But they would be really, really wrong.
The blonde man was holding your face between his hands, examining your now officially declared broken nose.
"You never called me any of those things."
"What do you mean?"
"Dear, love, sweetheart. Light of your life, your moon, your stars."
You were shooting daggers with your eyes. Kuina was almost on the ground, wheezing and squeaking from laughing so much.
"It's not that bad. You still look very pretty."
"You used to say beautiful before."
"You still look beautiful. But…"
"But!?"
"You are bruised under your eyes. It will go away, but you look slightly bloated. Your lips too."
"Have you ever seen anyone getting a nose surgery?" The woman with dreadlocks intervened, still wearing her blue bikini, but now also wearing jeans on top. You had all changed outfits - Chishiya was wearing grey sweatpants, a darker grey t-shirt and a grey and white cardigan (the man knew his color theory and was sticking to it). You were wearing jeans as well, although not bedazzled like Kuina's and a funny graphic t-shirt in your favorite color.
"Kuina!" You cried out.
"Your lips tho… You look like Angelina Jolie."
Both of your friends (was Chishiya your friend? Was he something more? What was he? Sometimes you thought you were lovers, sometimes merely very good friends) were having fun, and you were glad for it. But, did the punchline need to be your face?
You were on your way to a subway station, Chishiya had said. He had found a drawing, even before you met, in the jacket of a player who had tried to kill them in the game he had shared with Arisu and Usagi, that he just recently realized was a map. To you, it looked like a circle with a million lines.
"Do you keep and carry with you every little piece of paper you find?" You had messed with him.
"No. Just this one. Ah, and your drawing of a tree." He got the piece of paper out of his pocket, unfolded it, and showed you. And there it was.
You honestly hadn't been paying too much attention after that moment, lost in his brown eyes as you were while he was telling the story, but you had gathered that the person in question had been wearing a horse mask and that Chishiya thought he had been the dealer of the game, just like Asahi was of the ten of hearts.
You, of course, wanted to know what the deal with the dealers was, as redundant as that sounded. But, just for a day or two, you needed a break. The three of you had days on your visa, all of the numbered cards and were alive. So you had decided not to think about it.
It wasn't working out well, since your friends kept bringing it up. They were not like you, they didn't like to use ignorance as a coping mechanism.
But… Now at least they were focused on your nose. And whole face, apparently.
"Don't worry." The blonde man said, pressing for a second his lips against your forehead. "You will heal."
"Will it look crooked?" You asked in a tiny voice, wondering if he would feel pity for you and it would earn you another one of those kisses.
"No."
There were no more signs of affections, but at least the news were good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- You cussed on your mother tongue.
You had finally reached the place in Chishiya's map. It was, indeed, an incredibly tall and futuristic-looking room that one would access through subway tunnels.
It was… Hard to describe. It almost reminded you of a beehive. Or of a betting house. Both, actually. There were plenty of computers and screens, maybe even hundreds of the latter. Headphones, pens, papers, chairs and other office materials were scattered around. And corpses. So many corpses.
People that were killed by the laser in the sky, judging by the hole on their heads and on their chins. And not long ago, as they hadn't begun to rot.
You were about to say something, but Chishiya grabbed you by the arm. "Come, someone else is here."
And he was right, of course, because no less than five minutes later Arisu and Usagi entered the room. Chishiya's posture visibly relaxed, making you realize just now he had been tense since he had heard footsteps. What was going on inside that beautiful head of his, and why couldn't he let you and Kuina know?
"So you finally found this place, as expected from someone I have high hopes for." Chishiya said, letting you go and walking towards Arisu, and you almost had to contain a laugh. You literally, had arrived maybe 10 minutes ago. Maximum. The smile on your face lingered for a few seconds until all the corpses came into your peripheral vision. It faltered, then. "We meet again." The blonde man continued.
"Probably Arisu and Usagi are not excited as you since you betrayed them." You thought to yourself, but said nothing, not wanting to bring it up. You had avoided talking about it, as well, trying to tell yourself that if you were to love Chishiya, you had to love all of him. Including his Machiavellian manoeuvres.
"Thanks to you guys, I have all the numbered playing cards with me. So, thank you." The blonde man showed them the cards, curving his lips upwards.
"How did you find this place?" Arisu asked.
Instead of answering, Chishiya showed him the drawing he had found in the body of the horse-faced dealer. "Took me some time to realize this is actually a map, of a subway station." He put in back into his jacket, walking aimlessly around the room, hands in his pockets. "What happens when we collect all the playing cards? I thought I would know the answer after I came here. But there's only one thing I discovered."
"That makes one of us." You whispered, low enough none of them could hear you, looking at Kuina from the corner of your eye, who seemed as clueless as you. You had your own theories, of course. One of them and your particular favorite was that you were actually in something like The Truman Show, a reality television program, and there were hidden cameras everywhere, broadcasting your every movement to the whole world. Hi mum, hi dad! But it was not plausible.
Other had to do with George Orwell's 1984… Wait, that one actually made sense.
"Judging by the fact that they were all killed after our victory…"
"There's someone above them." You said, out loud, everyone in the room looking at you. You felt cohibited all of a sudden, but after seeing the proud look on Chishiya's face, you decided you were going to share your conjectures in public more often, crazy as they seemed.
Big Brother was still watching, then.
"But who could they be?" Usagi wondered.
"Who knows? They could be aliens. Or God himself." Chishiya was still looking at you, and you tried to hide a smile by pressing your lips together. You knew he was messing with you. You had told him about those two theories.
The screens around you started to flicker, and power turned on in the building.
SPECIAL URGENT BROADCAST.
"Congratulations to all players!" A woman's voice exclaimed, excitedly. You got closer to Kuina, who had the best vision out of the five of you, but also placed yourself as near as possible to Chishiya, suddenly feeling scared and wanting the comfort of his presence.
The woman was nothing but a blurry figure at the beginning. When the image focused, you all saw Mira. One of The Beach's Executive Members.
Big Brother was not only watching, he had been infiltrated between you. All this time.
"With the exception of the face card games all of you have cleared all of the numbered games so far, and emerged victors. A sweet victory achieved by sacrificing numerous lives. I wonder… how many of your comrades have died?" Her face was so innocent, so pure. She looked like a person who wouldn't even hurt a fly.
"Try remembering… Those that were shot dead with a gun." You didn't need to think too hard, as images of players getting shot started to play on the screens. "That girl you burned alive." One of Arisu's games, in which him and four others were screaming in panic, the body of a girl burning in front of them. "Those struck with the lasers, and those who drowned." This time, you saw yourself, chained by your legs to the bottom of a glass container, screaming guesses to stupid riddles in agony. "Those whose heads were blown off. Those comrades of yours." Images of the massacre at The Beach. Of other games.
"The despair you've felt so far and those dying moments that you can never forget. I'm extremely touched!" No, what she was, is a psychopath. "We would like to give you a present."
"Are you returning us to the original world?" Kuina deadpanned.
You knew the answer before Mira said anything.
"There will be new games!" Please, no. "Let's play together! You'll fight for face cards!"
"I don't dislike the idea." Chishiya whispered, but he was looking at you. His hand finding yours once more.
You were surprised at how calm and collected you were. The realization that you had absolutely no power or control over your life hadn't affected you at all. And you knew why.
You had been expecting it.
You had been hopeful, yes, but no matter how much you liked to play dumb, you were not stupid. You sighed, and to Chishiya's interrogating look, you simply nodded.
You were fine.
You would play the games.
You would survive.
"The next stage will commence tomorrow at noon." Mira announced.
"At least one thing is different…" Arisu hadn't taken his eyes off of the screen. "Now we are seeing our target."
You left the building to appear at the centre of Shibuya, where all of the screens were showing "NEXT STAGE" in all caps, as if it was the more exciting thing to ever happen. Giant zeppelins were flying through the city, each of them displaying one of the remaining cards.
"We are going to get through this." Chishiya's voice. You realized you hadn't spoken a word yet.
"I know."
"I am not going anywhere."
"I know."
He smiled.
"I love you."
You were this close to saying "I know" for a third time, just like Han Solo did in Star Wars. But that was not like you. You looked at him in the eyes, feeling butterflies, wasps, bees, fireflies, beetles and every fluttery-insect in the animal kingdom inside of you. He loved you.
Everything was going to be okay.
"I love you, too."
And then, the noise of an anti-tank rifle being shot.
8/2/23 @ 1:54 a.m.
So I guess it starts. I honestly don't know how to. It's the first time this has ever happened.
It's funny, because the only thing I can think about is how before this the worst thing to ever happen between me and you was arguing over who would pay for pizza at the beach house. We got into a screaming match about how great the other was, and how it was only fair that the other paid because they had already done so much. Robby had to come upstairs. he was the only one brave enough to step in between us if we were having an argument.
I keep thinking that wasn't too long ago. And then I remember it was nearly four years ago. And how much has changed in those four years. And ho win this moment, without you right beside me, I wish nothing more than to take all four of those years back.
I'm writing this like you died. I know you haven't, but I think a part of me has. I don't think I've ever felt like this before. When Carmen and the beach house happened was probably closest. It took me the whole rest of that summer to feel any sense of normalcy again. I remember how hard you defended me and my feelings in that moment. I wish you were still talking to me. Ha, again, I'm saying that like you've been gone for years. and it's only been, what, two fucking days? I feel pathetic.
I meant what I said. I tell you everything. And I guess I don't know how to function unless I'm telling you everything. So, that's why I'm doing this. This is my way of still telling you everything. And I guess so I can heal in some way from this. it hurts. It hurts so bad, dude.
Right now, only Clove and I know. Richie's asked about you. I don't know when we're going to tell him. I have to tell my mom too. This'll kill her. She's always seen you like her own. I guess Buzz doesn't know either. Fuck, that's gonna suck. Hell, I don't know who I should and shouldn't tell. I wanna yell it from the rooftops, just to see what you'll hear, who you'll hear it from, and find a way to still be connected to you. Instead, I'm still tagging you in TikToks, like you'll ever look at them. The only solace I get in any of this is you haven't blocked me. Maybe one day I'll follow you on this blog, and you can read everything I've written for you.
When I go back to school this year, I'm going to find a therapist too. The only option you've left me with -- since we can't grow together -- is to spend time growing on my own. it's the only thing I can see to do. It scares me, because what if you come back, and we're too different? if we've both grown in a way that my kids don't call you "uncle"? That you're not next to me when I get married? It's funny, I think -- I was gonna do that proposal before the end of this summer. You know, before tax season? Like we always talked about? That way we could both be engaged for our final year. it would've been so great to see the look on people's faces.
I think ill end these with what I'm listening to. You know I love my playlists. I made one about how I feel right now, like the dramatic emo idiot I am inside. I've got to find some My Chem to put in there, that'll really sell it.
I miss you. And I'll never stop.
xx,
Ms. U
🎶✨️when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to, publish. Then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)🎶✨️ (You don't have to. I just... got this and, well... have a nice day <3)
I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie -- This song has been a constant favorite since I first heard it when I was 13 and it'll probably stay with me forever. It's beautiful, a little morbid when you think about it, but also it's great.
Your Blood by Nothing But Thieves -- I got a little obsessed with this a few weeks ago because the lyrics are very Vol 10 Vashwood vibes. I originally misheard one of the lyrics as, "I gave you my moral disease" and got KO'd by how Vash this song is. Alas, that isn't what the song actually says but it's still a Vash song...to me. (Pro tip: Do not listen to this song during the couch scene and think about how Vash is feeling. You will not survive.)
Ramble On by Led Zeppelin -- So funny story. I got very obsessed with Supernatural two years ago. Dean Winchester loves Led Zeppelin. I'd never (knowingly) heard their music before because I grew up in a household of Russian people who only listened to Euro pop. So I listened to Led Zeppelin's entire discography and ended up agreeing with Dean Winchester that their best song is Ramble On. Fun stuff.
Girl God Gun by Gen and the Degenerates -- First heard this song on a Godstiel playlist on Spotify and I love it. It's brash and loud and punk and just super super fun. It makes me wanna yell and dance and go wild.
The Prayer of Francois Villon (Molitva) by Regina Spektor -- This is actually a cover of a song by the famous Russian bard, Bulat Okudzhava, but I like this version the best. Its very poetic and beautiful. The song is basically someone praying. They at once praise God while asking for Him to pay attention to them, to not forget what they ask of Him. Here's a translation of the lyrics.
about this blog
last updated: 2024-08-04
This is the mobile version of my about page, for the website one click here.
I’m rather new to tumblr, please be patient with me if I do something that goes against all the unspoken rules of this website.
Hey, I’m L@zzerot :)
… and I’m not sure what I want this blog to be; initially it was created to post JoJo fan art and to get away from the shitholes that are instagram and twitter, but it turned into a variety fan art and meme account.
The posts on my blog are generally queued for one (or a couple) post(s) per weekday at 21:00 CE(S)T/UTC +1(+2), so apologies for weirding you out when I like your art/meme, only to reblog it an eternity later. My queue usually has no less than 80 posts so it’s really gonna take a while. I also can't guarantee for the queue to always be full OR it might be too full so there might be times where this blog is just dead for a while OR randomly starts posting about a completely different fandom.
Which is why if you actually want to follow me for some reason do yourself a favor and use the tag filter, I tag my posts very thoroughly so you can usually be rather specific with what you don't want to see. One day I'll get around to making a tag list for that very purpose, I promise.
My friend told me the appeal of tumblr is that you can post the most random shit and you’ll find your people, so I’m gonna try to do that, but I’m used to censoring myself on 'social' media, so yeah…
I also have a side blog for my other less tumblr-friendly interests/for more personal (shit) posts, especially my taste in music if you’re interested in that.
But to give you a heads up, here’s…
…the things you can expect to see on this blog:
visual art I like (fan art, surrealistic, abstract, funny and not so funny comics/manga-esque stuff, MtG art, photography, animation and the like and a lot more I can’t think of right now)
niche music that I’m currently into
occasionally my own (fan) art of those things if I’m not too depressed to draw
m e m e s
…the reoccurring fandoms and topics on this blog:
... various fandoms
Star Trek (whatever I'm watching at the moment, I plan to watch all of Star Trek so this will probably be the main thing on my blog for a while)
The Expanse (same thing as with Star Trek tbh, except that I try to read the books first before watching the show)
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (mostly Part 6, 7 and 8, possibly 9, focused on Johnny Joestar, Josefumi Kujo and Yoshikage Kira 8)
The Legend of Zelda
Professor Layton
Magic the Gathering
Krabat
Monster Blood Tattoo
... music
Shortparis
Siddharta
dubioza kolektiv
Death Cab for Cutie
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Laibach
RotFront
various Power Metal bands
and a lot more niche (alternative) artists that I’m not gonna list here (you probably get a better grasp of my taste in music by browsing the #music recommendation tag on my side blog)
... visual artists
Lyonel & Andreas Feininger
M.C. Escher
... general topics
linguistics
history
trains
... a general warning for last:
This blog might contain traces of normal/artistic and sexually loaded nudity. The latter is tagged as nsfw if I don't forget about it; the former isn't. If you browse tumblr in public that's on you.
Nhl New York Rangers Grinch Hug Christmas Ugly Sweater
One year my wife and I went on our usual summer road trip through the States and we were near Cleveland. “Hey, the Nhl New York Rangers Grinch Hug Christmas Ugly Sweater from A Christmas Story is in Cleveland, let’s go.” So we did. It was just fantastic. A tour guide took you through the house first telling funny bits of trivia from the movie as we walked around the kitchen, living room, Ralphie’s room, the bathroom where the soap is (plastic), the phone on the wall where Mrs. Schwartz received the call. After the tour you could walk around on your own. Outside was the shed where the bad guys were crawling that Old Blue took care of and The Bumpusses house. I even took a walk down the street a few houses where Randy fell on the snow wearing his big snowsuit. Across the street was the museum where they had actual props from the movie, the clothes worn, photos and even the fathers car and the fire truck. I had a ball seeing the actual things that were in the movie. If you love this movie go to 3159 W 11th. St. In Cleveland, you won’t regret it.
Not everybody has to be bought, sold, supervised, and controlled by a Tropical Parrot For Button Down Parrot Hawaii Shirt megacorporation, making songs written by a corporate supervised team, to appeal to, and manipulate the feelings of teens and young 20 year olds. Some people in the music business are making music for older people. Some are making music for young people, but with their own, original, uncontrolled, skillful, creative, music, with intelligent, thoughtful or fun lyrics, and beautiful melodies. They are called “artists.” Ever heard of that concept? Bands like Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie, Sleater-Kinney, Tegan & Sara, Andrew Bird, and many more, so many I can’t count, nor list, them all, are real artists, who are not at all controlled by suits, in corporations, and they are not creating a ridiculous image of who they are for people to believe in, nor writing songs for a demographic group, that the corporation told them to. Music isn’t just about having a great singing voice, pumped up by a vocoder box.
Harry Styles, indeed: an artist appreciation post
Tumblr media
“Does it ever drive you crazy/Just how fast the night changes?” So much can happen in ten years. Okay, so I’ve got a confession to make. 10–11 years ago, I didn’t really care for One Direction, and I didn’t get the hype around Harry Styles. I was 16 years old (3rd or junior year of high school) when 1D’s debut album came out, and I thought that it was kid’s music. I started listening to alternative rock during my high school years. I was into pop punk since freshman year, but then during the latter half of high school, I started listening to indie bands like Death Cab for Cutie and The Strokes.
Anyways, let’s fast forward a bit. We all know that 1D announced their hiatus, and the boys would go on to pursue solo music careers. I remember Harry Styles coming out with Sign of the Times. I remember this being somewhat intriguing because it had no traces of the type of music 1D did and because of its music video with Harry flying. I wasn’t the type who was into boy bands, so I also didn’t care about solo material from former boy band members.
Before I started listening to Harry, I wasn’t familiar with the rest of his music. I remember hearing a bit of Adore You once on the radio, but I really didn’t pay much attention to it. This year, I began listening to him a few months ago. Two of my maternal cousins like his music. I remember one of them posting her Spotify stats from 2019 as an Instagram story. Her most popular artist of the decade was One Direction. I was shocked because I had no idea she listened to their music. She said that she finds Harry impressive.
Fast forward again. Let’s talk about 2022. It was in June when my brother was playing his favorite 1D singles (LOL, he only cares about singles; he’s not an album listener like I am). I suddenly started to appreciate You and I. I messaged the same cousin about it. She mentioned Watermelon Sugar as a good Harry song. Another cousin posted Harry’s House on her Instagram story, saying that she liked it.
So I decided to check out Harry’s songs. To be honest, I didn’t like them at first. I thought they were lacking something. When I first listened to Watermelon Sugar, I thought that it sounded interesting, but I didn’t like it enough to consider it a good song. Matilda was the first song I liked, but I still didn’t like the rest of his music yet. I forgot the exact moment I considered myself a fan, but it eventually happened. His music basically grew on me.
If someone had told me six years ago that Harry would be making great pop or rock music, I wouldn’t have believed them. If my 16-year-old self found out that my present self loves Harry and his music, she would’ve been in disbelief (maybe she would’ve laughed). She’d probably be like, “What?” or (if you’re Filipino, you’ll understand) “Weh?” Yes, I’ll say it. I never knew that Harry could be capable of coming up with awesome pop or rock music. I remember listening to Kiwi as I was going through his music and being pleasantly surprised. I really loved the spunky rock vibe that it gave off and the lyrics, “I think she said/’I’m having your baby! It’s none of your business!” being funny “in a cool way.” I was thinking, "If I had heard this on TV or the radio in 2017, I would’ve instantly loved it, and it would be the song that would turn me into a Harry fan.” Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but Kiwi wasn’t a popular single in the Philippines; Sign of the Times was.
He’s the “main pop boy” now, and I understand why. He’s a versatile singer dabbling with several genres such as pop, rock, folk, indie, soul, and funk. He can really sing (of course I checked out live videos), and there’s just something about his music that reels you in. I told a friend, “Harry’s music is aesthetic.” (To be more accurate, I said something along the lines of “Harry’s music is an aesthetic in itself.” — I don’t know if it makes sense, but you get the gist.
His first two albums are influenced by several of his favorite artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, and Fleetwood Mac (60s-70s sound) but they don’t sound like a copycat attempt to me. Harry’s House is 80s influenced but I bet you’d be surprised to find out that he only listened to classical and instrumental music while making it. He's a retro influenced artist, but he’s got his own style (yes, pun intended).
