I do want them in the community- because who else is telling those people “hey- you did something horrible and fucked up. You did irreversible damage to someone(s) and you have to face consequences for this- but you’re not a monster. Tell me why you did what you did, tell me why you felt that was ok to do. And instead of getting mad at you for whatever you say even though I am mad and disgusted, I am going to show kindness, and try and bring you to a place of understanding like the rest of us on why it’s not ok to act upon those feelings. Your not wrong for feeling the way you do- many of us feel the same and have similar urges and attractions- but all of us have to understand that just because we feel that way doesn’t mean we have to do those things. In fact, there are ways for us to cope and feel without hurting others’

From that place we can do so much. If they prove that they don’t want to learn and change- that they don’t want to get better and they actively want to cause pain- then we put them on the blocklists and we keep them away from the minors. That’s the point in which we can seperate them from our community- because they are only here to make it worse and we have proof that they weren’t trying to learn. But since WHEN have you ever seen someone do something bad and be given an opportunity to get better with kindness? I feel as a society the ‘opportunity’ we give them is abusing them ourselves in hope that once they experience what they did they will learn. But the thing is they *wont*- trying to fix a bad action by doing more bad things to people and shutting them out doesn’t do anything. It just encourages them to be quieter, and do their bad things under cover.

When we sit there and accept them (ofc gathered in a line with those who they could hurt behind us, ready to stop them if they do try to hurt them) we can educate them. We can get to a point where we redefine things- supporting ‘incest and rape’ will turn from fathers grooming and traumatizing their daughters and women getting raped in back alleyways with no help- to two adult siblings consensually and safely having feelings for each other, and a couple consensually and safely engaging in cnc and bdsm. Yet again, once we come to this point, we can see who is trying to get into this community to harm, and who is getting in this community to learn.

Most xenosatanist I have seen have not done a SINGLE thing that shows they ‘support rape and incest’- the majority I have seen id with it because of the ways they feel, but have an understanding that what they feel and think isn’t something they should act upon- that those actions would cause pain and trauma to those around them. They actively try not to hurt other people, and id with it for their own purpose- typically the reasons I see are for coping and reclamation. Were saying that we are not xenosatanist that we don’t accept them and they aren’t apart of us that they are bad and bla bla bla- but what did they Do? How did they prove that they are actively causing harm. I freaked out a few days ago because I realized there was a xenosatanist in a server I run. I was just going to block them immediately- but they never said or did anything that would actually warrant it typically. I saw the same with someone else- someone seemed to have an entirely pro-nazi account, but when I talked to those around them snd what they said in server it was clear they weren’t actually doing anything that harmed anyone. They were both in bad positions dealing with people who want to fucking crucify them for how they are- but they don’t even know how they actually are. The took a label at face value and shunned them for it but didn’t see how nice they were and the fact that they were going through bad times and needed help. Both of those people I tried to talk to- I asked why they were promoting what they did- and I learned about the position they were in. The former Id with it because they were dealing with a hoard of antis that were sending them death threats- accusing them of being like a xenosatanist without any proof. The latter is in a horribly abusive town, with no means of being able to escape, and they were promoting that to fit in and not get hurt (which is something I understand because I have had to do that). Both of them would benefit from education, and both of them would benefit from having a safe space. The ‘bad’ people need safe spaces for them to get unbad.

this argument isn’t to say that we have to agree with them and force people to accept them and befriend them- the block button is a right everyone has, and no one should have to engage with someone they don’t want to/a being that actively is triggering them with the way they exist. In fact, I do appreciate blocklists for things like this because it gives tools for minors to protect themselves and people to block the content that triggers them. This argument is to say that we shouldn’t exclude them- that the adults who want to educate and help and are willing to put themselves forward do and accept everyone, so that we can all come to a point of mutual understanding. Blocking someone and wanting to keep away from xenosatanist and their ideals for your own safety is different from trying to get them away and separate them entirely from us for the sole purpose that ‘they are supporting bad things’. How is anyone going to bet better if they also don’t have support? It’s not going to be easy, trying to keep a community safe from predators is always difficult no matter what community it is. But we would have less predators if there was a space they could be in that’s willing to help them find better and safer ways to be.

I used to be a very manipulative person, I was rude and I would hurt people- both on accident and on purpose. This was primarily because I was also being abused- but my abuser was being covert, and hid it enough that it seemed like I was the bad one who had all the bad thought and opinions and actions. For a long time- this was only met with backlash. There were so few people who were willing to listen to me, there were so few people who realized I was doing these things because no one was *actually* helping me. As well, some of these bad thing were to cope with attractions I didn’t understand (I am a z00, I always have been, but I will state I have never interacted with any animal outside of an owner/pet relationship). I was shunned away from everyone who wasn’t my abuser, when people tried to ‘correct me’ or try and better me it was also in a very horrible and accusatory way- a way my autism didn’t understand. it never felt like they actually wanted me to get better or learn, it felt like they wanted me to disappear so they never had to deal with me. All of this caused me to get worse; it led me to believe that it didn’t matter whether I was perfectly good or horribly bad because people hated me anyways even when I was trying not to do the things they were hurting me for. I had become bad, and I had lost all kindness. It was only when I found a group of people who would accept me as I was did I start going through and processing everything I felt and went through, and getting better. It was only when I was met with grace that I could learn. If I did just disappear, my abuser would just find another person to do the exact same thing with. And I would have probably been dead, feeling like a monster for things I could have grown from. As much as I don’t want to admit it, the same thing happened to them. Their bad behavior was never corrected, they were never taught any better, and they themself were in an abusive situation and delt with odd attraction. when it was obvious they were doing something bad, they got shunned. I always regret just leaving them, and not trying to help them get better and learn like I got to. I feel if we both had access to a community that would accept both of us and listen no matter what we did or thought, then we would have gotten better and learned way faster than we did. We could have found ways to cope with where we were, and ways to cope with how we felt that didn’t actively harm other people or each other. But we didn’t till long ago, now I’m late in my life still trying to become a better person and I don’t think they’ve changed at all. Because no one is helping them no one is accepting them as they are and no one is willing to help them change. That’s what I think radical acceptance is, that’s what I want to happen.

By the end of it, they might still be xenosatanist, but they won’t be hurting people (unless they are actively choosing and want to hurt themselves- which is their choice, or get an a conabuse relationship), and as long as they aren’t actively hurting people anymore, as long as there a space to help ‘bad’ people better themselves and it works, what’s so wrong?

Call me a xenosatanist/lsdqueer for this take (just reeal quick: jk /j don’t actually call me xenosatanist/lsdqueer plz and ty) but they belong in the rq community?? But at that, a fucking homophobe would belong in this community. Everyone belongs in this community- it’s radical acceptance, and imo that means radically accepting everyone, as they are, no matter what. We *would* accept the terrorist and the abusers and the horrible people. Does that mean that each and every very single rq has to agree with and promote the actions/ideologies of those people? No! Do you remember this time last year, when anyone who wanted to spend the 4th of July with their family was a heartless murderous psychopath? When we could have said “Of course you can meet your friends and family, as long as you do it outside!”

Do you remember that up until the moment the George Floyd protests started, people who went outside for ANY REASON were heartless murderous psychopaths who should be shamed? Remember when they literally sent helicopters into the forest to track down and arrest people for hiking because it was breaking quarantine? Remember when they forbid churches from gathering religious services at all and you all fucking sneered at the stupid religious conservatives pretending they were persecuted? When oh no, turns out, we should have just said you have to hold church services outside, but oopsie-poopsie we chose the things that had us exerting power for the sake of exerting power and hurting people because they were too weak to make us stop!

And then the expert class proclaimed that protesting was okay, but only for BLM protests, and other protests would spread the virus? And they literally actually said that without exaggeration? The saddest thing I ever heard in my life, I heard when I was in line to vote. It wasn’t political at all -- it was some old lady working at the polling station, happy to see another old lady. She said “Oh, I miss hugs, you know? I miss seeing people smile.” 

We have been under draconian lockdown rules that did not help and did not accomplish anything  People have killed themselves because of them. People were driven to so much despair and loneliness that they could no longer tolerate having to be alive. How many suicides is it worth, you motherfuckers? How mad were you over the prospect that not having draconian, depressing rules might kill someone, and how mad are you now that you know your shit made people kill themselves and all of it was for nothing?

You wrote man-made climate change is a hoax, could you tell us exactly who is perpetrating this hoax and what evidence you have of this humongous conspiracy that they somehow manage to keep completely secret? Or is it just a believe that fits nicely with the other convictions you already had? Ever hear of Ockham's razor?

No but I've heard of Occam's Razor and the way people use it is bullshit. Especially when there's evidence pointing to a more complicated truth. Especially when "complicated conspiracy theories" are being proven right every month or so. Occam's Razor is a guideline, not a truth. It's good for determining a starting point for an investigation but it doesn't mean you stop thinking once you decide what the simplest solution is. The hoax is being perpetuated by the UN, who was caught faking global warming data in 2009; politicians in pretty much every western country, who want to use the fake climate crisis as an excuse to strip people of their rights and expand their power; the mainstream news media who are in the tank for those politicians and donate almost exclusively to them and who have been caught lying for them and covering up their scandals for decades; academic activists who have taken over the scientific community and refuse to allow debate or research that might challenge the bullshit "consensus" on global warming because the "science is settled".

And it's not even a conspiracy. What's going on is being done very openly and people have been talking about it for years. And here's the kicker, because even if the global warming alarmism was true and we only had 4 years or whatever it is now to stop climate change before we all die, not a single one of the proposed "solutions" to global warming would actually lower global carbon emissions enough to do anything because none of the solutions do anything to limit emissions in the countries that are responsible for most of the carbon "pollution", namely China and India. They're all about implementing some form of international socialism and stripping citizens of western republics of their rights.

But let's go back to Occam's Razor for a moment. What do you think the simplest explanation for global warming is? That all the people who have a vested interest, either monetarily or ideologically, in man made global warming being a serious threat to the future of humanity are absolutely right in saying that we have mere years left before global warming is irreversible and will lead to the deaths of billions of people, despite every single dire climate prediction they've ever made not coming true (remember NYC being underwater and the ice caps disappearing by 2015?) and every single climate apocalypse predicted pre-global warming becoming in vogue also never coming true? Or that the sun, which is where we get our heat, which is proven to have cycles where it puts out more heat and less heat, which has sunspots that are also cyclical and effect our climate, is the main cause of any shift in "normal" weather?

Because one of those sounds a lot simpler to me.

The May 19th, 2022 streams done by Eret and Wilbur Soot pull out a lot of conflicting feelings for fans. Now, almost exactly 2 years out from the Final Control Room, I want to reflect on those feelings. My Own Judas is a litmus test for Dream SMP girlbloggers. I’m limited by my own observations of my dashboard after the stream, but here’s my thoughts.

I noticed that after the stream a number of Wilbur mains expressing fury that c!Eret was demanding an apology from c!Wilbur. The common consensus was that Eret had not “earned” their redemption and that Wilbur was being unfairly put down.

In real life, you cannot earn forgiveness. You cannot earn redemption. Forgiveness is given to you, and redemption and justice are concepts rooted entirely in personal beliefs and morality.

From a storytelling perspective, Eret has earned their redemption because the author has shown them doing the emotional labor of trying to reconcile with others. Eret recognized the harm they did, regretted it, and made efforts again and again to do better, and help those they hurt.

Eret’s betrayal caused Tubbo and Tommy to lose their first lives. (Note: the 3 lives system was not canonized until November 16th. At the time of the betrayal, all players played under the assumption that a death just meant a loss of items. Many viewers were still unaware that what they were watching was roleplay.) By the time of the Disc Confrontation, Eret was working towards becoming a better person. You may remember Eret put themself between Dream and the two teenagers, signaling that they were firmly against Dream even if it would mean going against the man who gave them the kingship.

As for the claim that Wilbur was unfairly treated by Eret in their demands for an apology, I will say this:

I will openly admit that there is a feeling of superiority among c!Wilbur “mains” that stems from the belief that we’re following a major—if not the main—character of the Dream SMP story. I would say it is difficult to find anyone on the analysis side of the fandom who would say Wilbur’s story is poorly written. And there is a pervasive feeling of defensiveness among Wilbur mains because of the ways the character been vilified by the fandom. People want to defend their favorite character. All of these factors lead to a tendency towards dismissing the other writers/actors.

However, Wilbur has been far less dedicated to seeking forgiveness than Eret. Wilbur seeks validation from other and their opinions of him deeply affect his self perception. He believes himself unworthy of love and forgiveness, however he also has an inherent belief that he deserves justice. These two ideas appear contradictory, but his romantic attitude towards life reveals why this occurs. Wilbur perceives himself as the main character of his story. He perceives himself as the hero in the Revolution, but after the Election this belief begins to crumble.

Exemplified by the quote: “Tommy, are we the bad guys?”, in Pogtopia Wilbur’s self and public image declined, and he decided that he obviously must be the villain, a belief fed by his actions towards others under increasingly stressful circumstances. He began to abandon attempts at being the better person and embraced the persona of villainy. This character change and his belief that L’Manberg had become irreversibly changed is what culminated in his suicide, an ending that he considered to be poetic justice.

Revival led him to believe he had a greater purpose again. To Wilbur’s logic, a dead man is not brought back randomly: there must be both a narrative purpose he must fulfill, and whatever purpose Dream intended for him. The purpose he latched onto was Quackity, which is a whole ‘nother can of psycho-competitive worms.

After Hitting on 16 and Bust, Wilbur sees himself on a journey to make things right to people he has wronged. However, because growing as a person is difficult and emotionally painful, Wilbur tries to do it as fast as possible in order to give others closure and feel like he’s doing what is necessary for his “narrative”. (Note: I am referring to the narrative character!Wilbur has constructed for himself, not the actual narrative of the streams written by cc!Wilbur.)

When Wilbur gave Eret a quick, half hearted apology, Eret called him out on it. Eret had worked for their redemption arc, and they wanted Wilbur to treat them with the same respect. Eret was unsatisfied with the bare minimum of emotional investment from Wilbur. When Wilbur is confronted in this way by Eret, Wilbur does not understand that what Eret wants is an acknowledgment of their struggle and a commitment from Wilbur to be worthy of his redemption, to put effort into being a better person.

Eret made Wilbur confront the fact that self flagellation does not solve anyone’s problems. Wilbur has a tendency to wallow in his self loathing and make nothing of it, insisting that he is unworthy and therefore incapable of positive change. Eret forced Wilbur to acknowledge that he is not evil, that he is more than capable of being the man he once was.

By throwing away their crown, Eret showed Wilbur they were more than just the King. Eret showed him they were committed to change, they would not trade the lives of their friends for power again. Disposing of the TNT along with the crown symbolized Wilbur choosing to be better, choosing to avoid the kinds of behaviors that led to November 16th and Ranboo’s death in Hitting on 16.

However, believing Eret to be completely in the right is equally dismissive of the story: they are both flawed, hurt people. Eret incorrectly believes power corrupted Wilbur the way it corrupted them, projecting Wilbur’s actions and attitude on the 16th back to his early presidency. Eret sees a “madman”, not the character the audience watches whose monologues reveal a 7 layer dip of issues.

Eret has only their own observational knowledge of the severity of Wilbur’s mental health crisis. They presumably suspected Wilbur was suicidal on the bridge, where they pull him back from his contemplation of just throwing himself off the bridge, but they likely do not know the extent to which he believes himself unworthy of being loved or respected. How Wilbur would choose to act from then on is not on Eret.

If you think they have both been dragged through the mud for their actions, and deserve redemption divorced from the forgiveness of others—with the understanding that doing so gives both parties an attempt at closure—then I am kissing you on the mouth. Because I do not have to be a therapist to tell you that relying on other’s opinions of you is an unhealthy way to maintain your own self esteem.

A crucial part of apologies that is often forgotten is making the effort to repair the relationship and fix the problem. Eret can’t undo the Final Control Room, and Wilbur can’t possibly undo all the wars, but they both made a commitment to each other with the TNT and crown.

♦ It's difficult to tell when Elwine's fixation on Nadine began - it was likely a combination of tragedies happening in their past that led Elwine's personality to morph into what it was - and unfortunately, still is. The way she used to be when she was younger and the kind of creature she is now are almost entirely two different persons altogether.

♦ Elwine considered the other Power Angels her friends, and maybe even her family, but there is no one she feels more connected towards than Nadine. They are nearly identical to one another, a single soul of a catlike beast from the ancient past divided into two separate angels when the God of Rainbow World had created them.

♦ Having been trained to be a soldier at a very young age, being told this was her and the other Power Angel's sole purpose in this world, then the eventual war against the Pitch Black World's demons was only one of the many things to cause a scarring to Elwine's mind.

♦ She often would seek comfort from Nadine and her sister returned it in earnest, at least, in the beginning, she would. Many times the former would sneak into her bed at night to cuddle together - even after they’d become older - exhausted from their day-long training sessions.

"You should really be a little more independent and learn to sleep in your own bed. We aren't children anymore, Elwine." the other angel remarked.

"I can function on my own, Nee-chan, but... I swear this is the last time... please?" 

Her sister would eventually give in, but as she tossed and turned to face the wall instead, Elwine feels doleful at being apathetically and continuously ignored in such manner. 

A few minutes would pass, before Elwine speaks again, voice suddenly turning into a hushed whisper like she was revealing a forbidden secret, "I know that I'm not supposed to say things like this, so... please don't tell Lord Fumus about it, but... I wish this singular night would last forever, if each morning is only going to be exactly the same since we went to war... I wish we had more time to be just kids, like we were in the past. I miss playing together, spending nights sneaking out of our room to lay in the meadows. We never do that anymore..."

Nadine sounds a little exasperated, if not worried about the melancholy tone of her sister, "C’mon, don't say these silly things. I don't like it either, but things will get better and less dull around here once the war is over, I'm sure of it."

"Do you... promise?"

Nadine, however, doesn’t sound so certain then, "It isn't up to me, so I don’t know if I can... all there is to do is just... hope for better days to come."

♦ Barely comforted by her sister's words, it didn't help as Nadine began to gradually grow distant from Elwine. Elwine would scold Nadine for being disobedient during combat training or her studies, telling her this is what she is meant to do the day she was given life out of grace and her purpose in this world is to follow God's orders, lest her life be taken away from her as divine punishment. They weren’t as close as they once were; they barely spoke to eachother, only when it was to get into an argument or they were forced to discuss important matters.

♦ Elwine never brought up the inconsequential daydreams again after that one night. Bottling up her feelings causes her negative emotions to manifest in different, worse ways. She has moments of “blind rage” yet never seems to recall them once it’s over - it’s almost like blackout - such as being prone to lashing out at her teammates, taking out her wrath on demons in battlefield - simply carrying out her God’s orders and taking them out isn’t enough, she more often than not, resorts to torturing them.

♦ Elwine is one of the few aware of Fumus' sadistic ways and the dictatorship of his world he rules with a fist of iron, but she only comes to know of this long after Nadine's departure out of heaven. Elwine has been abused by Fumus similarly her sister has, being sexually assaulted by him (her very first time was with Fumus as well, which had also been non-consensual), though he hasn't left too many bruises or physical scarrings on her in the same way he's done to some of his other angels. While he has somewhat lost interest in using her as a toy, the irreversible lasting effect it caused Elwine only made her sink deeper and deeper into an unstable mindset.

♦ Where was Nadine to comfort her then when it happened? Why couldn't her first time have been with Nadine? Why did Nadine replace the only family she had with other people? What did she ever do to make Nadine hate her like this? Nadine, Nadine, Nadine Nadine NadineNadineNADI

♦ But Elwine could never hate her sister, even after the numerous fights and disagreements they've gotten into. Elwine promises if she ever meets her other half again, she'll forgive her for every mishap, then take the two of them away to a secluded place where no one will ever hurt either of them ever again if it could be helped, a place where Nadine's attention will not be diverted away by silly thoughts about being anywhere else except right here with Elwine, with no pesky ‘familiars’ to replace her or get in their way. 

♦ When she’ll be found her again, she will bite her lips bloody with teeth then kiss away the pain, as reminder of exactly what sisterly love is; an ear-shattering, violent wave which never lasts forever, for there is always a serene stream of a tide that comes right after it. The calm after the storm.

"Nee-chan, I promise to take care of you forever and ever after all this is over... just come back to me, there is no one who knows you like I do... Nee-chan..."

♦ She'd been so wrong before; neither of them need a purpose in life, when all they need from now is eachother.

♦ Elwine may blindly worship the God for giving her life and while her loyalties to him are unquestionable, she only loves one person unconditionally and wholly in every way, though it isn’t certain which of her feelings would prevail and overpower the other if it came down to making a choice, for the concept of free will is not engraved within her perimeters.

♦ One day, Elwine finds some gray, frayed feathers coated in thick, red liquid - as well as black, stray strands of hair in Lord Fumus' office when she goes to deliver something to him as ordered... wonder who's been in his office as of lately? They must've been facing quite a punishment for doing a bad deed... Lord Fumus seemed busy scooped up inside all day yesterday, after all.

Title: Relic Keepers: Awakening of the Red Lily

Summary: A 1000 years after an apocalyptic event called the Bombardment, humanity have learnt how to harness the power of mana. Silverleaf Military Academy is a learning centre for Indigo Children, those who have the ability to use Mana. And they are divided into two classes; the Elites, who’s skills make them superior on the battlefield. And Passives, who’s skills do not belong outside of the Academy. Supposedly. Eishirou is classed as a Passive. He is also a Chronicler. Gathering lost information, finding relics, learning about the far-flung distant past is what he does. And he enjoys it. However, his life changes when he gets called out to his first expedition in the field with his new roommate, Zayne – a powerfully protective Elite!

Notes: Ok, here it is. M y first attempt at an original novel! A little nervous to be honest, but I’ll try my best to be entertaining! I’ll also try my best to keep the chapters under 3k for easier reading. But, you know, things happen. Now, this will be a very long project and I will attempt to maintain weekly updates. Chapter 1:

Eishirou huffed a tired sigh to remove an annoying strand of brown hair from his eyes. His eyes, normally a honey brown, were no doubt darken and possibly even bloodshot from staring at a bright computer screen for a few long hours.

He enjoyed his role as a Researcher and Chronicler. But staring at data for hours on end certainly got boring really quickly.

“Eishirou? You’re still here?”

Looking up from his work screen, Eishirou glanced over at his fellow Chronicler and friend.

Reddish brown hair and vivid emerald green eyes. Misaki. He was a good guy, friendly and considerate. Protective. He did have an intimidating glare of death, though. Guy knew how to scare the shit out of newbies, that was for sure. And some of the veterans, too.

“Yeah, but not for much longer, I hope,” Eishirou replied as he returned back to his work screen. “Someone was reported to have messed around with a few archives. I’m just making sure they didn’t actually mess with the data.”

Eishirou didn’t need to look over at Misaki to know that his usual friendly smile had turned into a deep frown. “Someone hacked the data? Do you know who?”

“Nope. Just that someone did.”

“I see,” Misaki murmured. “I will find out then.”

Eishirou wasn’t able to suppress an amused snort when he heard Misaki’s footsteps move away. He felt sorry for them, whoever they were. For a few seconds at least. Messing with the data was a bit no-no.

The information he was inspecting was basic, but needed to be preserved regardless. It was information he had seen all before. He knew it by heart, honestly. So, he would be able to get through it all quickly.

The prestigious Silverleaf Academy, a military university where students possessing mana-infused abilities came to train. It was located in Araluen, a Sanctuary City. Set in the middle of an island, surrounded by a large stone wall. And that was located ten miles from the shore of a vastly inhabitable continent. A continent that was reportedly to have once been as Australia. A place they now referred to as Main Land.

"Be sure to book now for the 1022nd Anniversary of the Bombardment!" the large plasma advertising board on the other side of the information centre robotically sounded, momentarily distracting Eishirou from his work.

Oh, was it that time of the year again?

The Bombardment was the name for an era in time, over a thousand years ago, where several asteroids impacted the earth within minutes of each other. Several large cities were wiped clean from the surface. Millions of lives where taken. Many more to follow in the apocalyptic aftermath. Life as those who knew it back then was irreversibly changed.

Of course, they didn't have the exact time or date when the Bombardment had occurred. Information from that era was largely lost and destroyed. And the information they had uncovered mostly contradicted itself. It was difficult to tell between all the fake propaganda and the truth. Not to mention that ruins seemed to date back further than a thousand years. Ancient. No mentioning of them in any form of text or data.

The common consensus was that the Bombardment happened over a thousand years ago. And had brought modern civilisation to its knees.

It also brought the use and discovery of mana.

The scientific community all agreed on one thing; if humanity had not discovered mana and found a way to harness it, then humanity would have been destroyed, too.

By using mana and infusing it within their inventions, they were able to rebuild society. Restructured cities. Learn how to live off the land. Learning how to harness mana within the human body.

The mana itself was largely a mystery. It was a source of energy. Mostly invisible until it was condensed and concentrated, which would then be presented in a glowing light.

However, the scientific community was divided in regards to where said mana came from. The asteroids? Or were rich mana deposits hidden within the Earth the entire time and it took a cataclysmic impact to reveal them?

There were a lot of…discussions about that topic. And certain scientists would often times get violent and confrontational.

Eishirou didn’t have a preference either way. Far as he knew, both scenarios were likely. And did it really make that much of a difference where Mana came from a thousand years ago? It wasn’t going to affect your average Joe’s way of life.

Those born after the Bombardment were often referred as Indigo Children. They were born with the innate ability to use Mana. And they fell into two categories; Elites and Passives.

Some form of discrimination was still rife amongst the Indigo Children. Elites verses and Passives. Elites are those born with battling abilities. Creating swords or other miscellaneous weapons out of mana. They were the ones who fight against the creatures known simply as ShadowDwellers.

ShadowDwellers were, simply put, abominations. Deformed creatures that also possessed the ability to use Mana. Again, the scientific community was divided with where they came from. Again, the asteroids? Or deep within the Earth itself? Some even believed that they were once humans themselves, mutated by mana in some way.

Silverleaf Academy had several Elite Squadrons that ensured the safety of students and residents alike.

Eishirou was a Passive Indigo Child. He didn’t fight in battles. Though, he could enter the battlefield if necessary. Only as a Medic, however. He possessed no fighting skills whatsoever. What skills he did possess was useful for research and archaeology.

He was a bit of an oddity, if one went by the Academy Hierarchy. He was a Chronicler, someone who dealt with gathering information and ensuring its safety for future generations. So, many Elites would refer to them as Paper-Pushers.

But he was also a Medic. And according to the Hierarchy, he was off-limits. No harm was to come to medics, no matter what. Anyone who dared to harm a medic deserved severe punishment.

So, Eishirou was both a nobody and someone of immunity.

In short, the Academy Hierarchy was stupid.

Chroniclers and Information Gatherers were important, however. The ‘modern’ civilisations from a thousand years ago seemed to have believed that they were the pinnacle of evolution. And they possessed all the information that there was to be known.

And yet, many of the ruins that have been discovered date back potentially millions of years. Civilisations deep underground and within the seas. Places and locations that were believed to have been impossible during ‘modern’ civilisation.

Either they were completely arrogant. Or completely ignorant.

A mixture of both, perhaps.

Scientists of today refuse to make the same mistake. They wish to document everything, no matter how controversial or ‘wrong’ that information appeared to be. Fact over fiction. Truth over lies.

Well, the document seemed perfectly intact. Done! He was a free man.

A buzzing sound from his communicator, however, stopped him dead in his tracks. Typical.

With a drawn-out groan, Eishirou slumped back into his chair and picked up his communicator. He didn’t need to see who was ringing him to know who it was. “Prof, you’re slipping. I didn’t even get my butt out of the chair this time.”

The hologram scene of Professor Chryses chortled. “I’ll try harder next time.”

As long as he didn’t catch him in the shower again. If he did, Eishirou was just going to ignore it. No matter how many times he rang.

“Let me guess; you got an assignment?” Eishirou asked.

The middle-aged man on the other side of the communicator nodded. With his dark sun-burned skin and deep wrinkles around his eyes, he was your typical off-the-grid researcher. The best at the Academy, to be completely frank. And he was Eishirou’s mentor.

“That’s right. And you’re coming with me.”

That surprised Eishirou. The only field research experience he had was helping in the restoration of relics and runestones that Jacob and his fellow researchers had discovered. He hadn’t been away from the city before.

“Really? Where to? Are we heading for Main Land?”

Jacob shook his head. “No. A small but tropically dense island thirty miles from here. It should be a rather short assignment. A damaged stone tablet was discovered.”

Ah, that was why he wanted him to join him. That, and he was old enough to start gaining some field experience. “And you need my expertise?”

“Correct,” Jacob smiled. “See you in an hour. Elite Team 3 will be meeting us at the Hanger 12.”

“Elites?” Eishirou repeated in a surprised tone.

“ShadowDwellers had been reported in the area,” Jacob explained simply.

Ah, that explained a lot. Though, there seemed to be an increase in ShadowDweller sightings and occurrences lately. He briefly wondered why that was.

“Right, see you in a bit,” Eishirou returned before he ended the call.

Well, no point dawdling now.

Eishirou grabbed his shoulder bag from the floor of his work desk and stood up. The small door which encapsulated him at his desk slid open noiselessly, allowing him to step out onto the stairs.

“You’re heading out again?” a feminine voice practically whined at him.

He turned to look over at another Chronicler. Long purple hair, dark pink eyes, quite fragile in appearance. Lyvia. She worked full-time within the Communication centre. Her frail body prevented her from joining field missions.

“The ol’ slave driver wants me to join him on an assignment,” Eishirou explained. “A short one, he claims. But we all know what that means.”

Lyvia’s pout quickly transformed into a smile and she nodded. “I heard Elites. Which team?”

“Team 3.”

“Oh!” her expression brightened unexpectedly. “I heard they got a new member. Ernesta practically forced him to join.”

That sounded like something Ernesta would do. She was very mild-mannered, peaceful in some ways. But she was terrifying when angry. Oooh, boy, Eishirou never wanted to get on her bad side.

“You might get to meet him,” Lyvia continued before she gave a telling giggle. “He’s supposedly cute.”

Eishirou rolled his eyes. “I’ll be sure to let you know.”

He bid his fellow Chroniclers farewell as he turned and walked up the pathway toward the exit. He walked past the main Observation Deck and out through the automatic sliding doors. He noted that the Observation Deck was empty. Which was usually a good thing. Nothing untoward was occurring throughout the Academy and city. Whenever the Communicator Commander was there, it meant trouble was about to go down.

Eishirou hadn’t had the pleasure of being on duty when Professor Jalen, or Communications Commander, started barking orders. He was a Chronicler, but he dealt more with the field work. Often aiding Professor Chryses. He only ever used his Chronicler privileges when he needed some classified information. Or just information in general.

He had the ability to access any information at any given time. It was easier within the Communication Centre, but anywhere he could get access to the internet, he could get the information he wanted.

The buzzing of his communicator pulled Eishirou from his thoughts once more. When he pulled it out of his pocket, he half expected to see that it was the Jacob again. Instead he was surprised to see it was his dorm superintendent.

“Katsuto, what’s up?” Eishirou asked as the hologram of a man with a stern expression flickered into view.

“Just informing you that you have a new roommate,” Katsuto stated in his usual brisk and stern manner.

He stopped dead in his tracks. Wait, roommate?

“What roommate?” Eishirou immediately asked. “No one said anything about me getting a roommate!”

Katsuto barely even blinked at his response. “You do now. He’s waiting for you. Play nice.”

“W-wait a minute-!” Eishirou spluttered. But it was useless. Katsuto finished the call on his end and Eishirou was left staring at the screen of his communicator.

He sighed loudly as his shoulders slumped forward in defeat. Asshole. Could have at least warned him a few days in advance. He knew he was to get a new roommate one day, after his old roommate had unfortunately taken ill and had to move to a dorm closer to the medical wing.

But that was beside the point. A bit of common courtesy from Katsuto wouldn’t have gone astray! And he didn’t even mention the guy’s name!

Ugh…

He uttered another sigh and kept walking. Well, there was nothing he could do about it now. He had an assignment to skip off to, anyway. He couldn’t play host for very long. Even so, he hoped the guy was easy to get along with.

After a few minutes of walking, he finally reached the door to his room. He took a minute to gather his composure before he used his key card to open the door. And he stepped inside.

His gaze immediately flickered over to the bed located on the left side of the room. And yup, there was someone there.

He appeared to have been going through his luggage. Tall guy, a couple of heads taller than Eishirou was. So…over six feet. With floppy dark blue hair. His eyes appeared purple. His skin was a light tan. Perhaps it was natural, or it meant that he had spent quite a lot of time outside.

No matter.

“Ah, you’re my new roommate,” Eishirou greeted, gaining the new guy’s attention.

The guy turned in his direction and gave him a thankfully friendly looking smile. “That’s me. You must be Eishirou.”

The door slid closed behind him as Eishirou moved into the room. “And that’s me.”

“The name’s Zayne.”

As Eishirou shook the other guy’s hand in greeting, he noted that he had an Elite emblem on his jacket. He had to fight the urge to do a double-take. Wait, an Elite? Why would an Elite be rooming with a Passive? Especially as Passive like him?

Although, he was…kinda cute, he had to admit. He had the body of an Elite; subtle muscles, sleek form, straight back, and oozing with confidence. Hoped he retained that friendliness after learning that Eishirou was a paper-pusher.

“Sorry, can’t stay long to chat,” Zayne suddenly stated with a wry grin. “First day here and I’m already on an assignment.”

“Doesn’t take long, unfortunately,” Eishirou returned with an empathetic tone. Before he, too, grinned. “I have one, too. Where you headed?”

“Hanger 12 for now.”

Wait…

“Ah, what Elite team, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Team 3,” Zayne answered quickly, completely unbothered that Eishirou knew he was an elite without asking.

So, he was the new guy on Elite Team 3? Eishirou wasn’t entirely sure what to feel about that. Some Elite’s don’t like the prospect of acting like bodyguards to Passives.

Well, one way to find out.

“Well…looks like you’re escorting me there,” Eishirou commented, earning himself a confused tilt of the head from Zayne. “I’m a Passive. And you’re going to be acting as a bodyguard for this assignment.”

The biter bit. How ‘liberals’  are consuming their own

I’ll begin this post, as one has to nowadays, by reiterating my sincere commitment to whatever righteous cause takes your fancy this week. No one can accuse me of not following the party line, or having ‘wrongthought’. I freely confess to my past, deviationist, splittist opinions, and respectfully ask to be sent to a reeducation camp, preferably among the Uighurs. 

Meanwhile, back in what remains of the Free World, I have to laugh when I see so many prominent ‘Liberals’ getting themselves in hot water because of what they have said or done in contravention of the Groupthink that they themselves once so earnestly supported.  

For example Steve Bell, the wannabe socialist cartoonist, is being ‘let go’ from his contract with The Guardian, the UK’s Liberal-left paper of record. No doubt partly because of his age (ageism being rife amongst right-on folk) but perhaps also because they are looking for a young BIPOC/woman/LGBTQ+ to replace him, and , let’s face it, Steve Bell is...ahem...an older non-BIPOC non-female person (that’s an old white male, to those who aren’t woke). The Guardian recently published a Bell cartoon showing Priti Patel, the Home Office (Interior) Minister as an ugly cow - or a bull- forgetting that for Hindus, half the UK’s people of South Asian ancestry, the bovine is sacred. Cue an outraged and insulted minority, offended even more when the paper refused to apologise or withdraw the cartoon. Oops! Someone had to go.......Judge for yourself and see if it is sexist and racist at the same time.

In Hollywood, long a bastion of right-on wokeness and insincere platitudinising,   non-BIPOC /LGBTQ+ actors have - or so I read in the Daily Strumpet and the Feudal and Reactionary Times- apparently become unemployable, especially if they are of a ‘problematic’ age or sex (that’s old, white and male, again). If you aren’t sufficiently diverse,  forget it; there are no up-coming parts for you. At least Historical fiction drama, Outlander has lots of butch men running around in skirts, which goes to show how advanced Scotland was in the 18th Century. No wonder it’s my favourite TV drama, though it does show a problematic  lack of diversity among the lead characters. Time for a colour-blind recast? I mean, look what they can do with Henry V. Chiwetel Ejiofor to play Scottish clansman Jamie Fraser! Bring it on! 

Manwhile JK Rowling, favourite children’s author, (and, once,  famously right-on as a Labour supporter, fierce critic of the wicked Tories and feminist) together with Ur-feminist Germaine Greer,  have both  been pilloried for apparent Transphobia, for daring to suggest that if a male cuts all his bits off and  fills his body up with female hormones to develop breasts (and other more messy surgical treatment) he does not become a woman, per se.It’s a point of view. Personally, if a lad believes he is a lassie and not merely a eunuch, who am I to put a spoke in his wheel? If she is still armed with a male weapon and goes into the Ladies loo only to pee on the seat, on the other hand..... and I really think that teenagers  whose raging hormones and developing brains may encourage them to identify as a member of the opposite sex, ought to have to wait until they are a tab more mature before taking an irreversible decision on their sexuality, and shouldn’t be encouraged by adults  into taking such action. And Doctors shouldn’t perform such operations  on minors. It’s a point of view. Don’t judge me!

 I leave you with these extracts from an interesting article from the Sydney Morning Herald, about Twitter mobbing.

“........You can say that ridiculing Twitter’s exotic grievances is an easy sport. Sure, except that years ago it seemed to me that Twitter wasn’t merely reflecting, but engendering and magnifying, a kind of wickedly censorious piety. And one that was increasingly influencing journalists and artists. I’ve had editors more interested in avoiding controversy than in judging the accuracy and value of my work.

Online, piety has no trouble finding affirmation. But the thing with piety is that it stubbornly resists private examination. This might work for the seminary, but it seems ruinous for a writer. Unless you’re an awful one. In which case, this is an optimal environment to work in – so, congratulations on being born to an age that enthusiastically supports your mediocrity.

I suspect the most politically pious in this country won’t be satisfied until certain professions have yielded their specific values and functions in deference to a vision of society that is perfectly liberated from aggravation. It’s a vision of a giant creche.

All contest would be outlawed. Literature would become dogma. Universities would moonlight as daycare centres. The law would abandon its duty to evidentiary thresholds and the presumption of innocence, and become a place of infinite credulity. Comedy would cede the joys of irreverence, and prefer applause to laughter. Journalism would reject curiosity, exploration and corroboration, in favour of politically sanctioned advocacy and “authentic” personal essays. Increasingly, newsrooms will serve their readers a narrow, ideologically curated diet.

I’ve disagreed with plenty of Bari Weiss’s work, but I agreed with her this week when she wrote, in her open letter resigning as an opinion editor at The New York Times, that “a new consensus has emerged in the press ... that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else”.

These days, it’s quite common to hear: “It is imperative that a writer of non-fiction write only about experiences they’ve had.” ( I thought it was supposed to apply to writers of fiction) When confronted with this stupidity, I experience my own violent irrationality and consider applying the credo in extremis by torching all newsrooms and the history sections of libraries.

A common defence of the left’s censoriousness – however venomous and trivial – is that it is merely free speech deployed against another’s. That’s fundamentally true, and it’s also disingenuous: the threat of mobilised zealotry is chilling speech.

I can’t prove the negative here – I can’t measure the things not written or said. But I can tell you that I’ve spoken to a few eminent writers about this – authors of works we’d consider classics – who have told me they would not dare to publish the work today. One writer told me she had not slept the night she spoke to me about such things, so fearful was she that I’d publish it. That’s a problem.

It’s also a problem when scholars are sacked for tweeting links to academic papers, when good faith cannot be distinguished from bad, when writers self-censor or have to explain that their insistence on complexity is owed to intellectual integrity and not, say, their belief in white supremacy or Satan.

Increasingly, those who have contributed to a culture of outrageous sensitivity are being impaled on the swords they helped sharpen. Past months have resembled a kind of woke purge. Which makes schadenfreude very easy to indulge, but we’ll need to resist that dubious pleasure lest we perpetuate this cycle of mob-ruled destruction of careers and reputations.

This isn’t either/or. It shouldn’t be truth versus freedom. It shouldn’t be inferred that criticism of this censoriousness means that the critic doesn’t believe there aren’t righteous battles being fought. But you can’t tell me that elements of this online piety aren’t absurd, indulgent or destructive.

You can’t tell me that middle-class folk aren’t publicising interpersonal spats as proof of “systemic violence”, or that we’re not partially cannibalising culture in a moment of historic uncertainty and vast, easily industrialised disinformation. Or that I can’t resist or make fun of Jacobin zealotry. You can’t.

Try, Try Again (pt. 11)

I’m stuck in my apartment currently, so I figured there was no better time than the present to write about people being stuck in places :/

Chapter 11 (2534 words)

“Who are you?” Lucy’s voice cut through the silence.

“What do you mean?” Rex asked, a forced smile etched into his face. “I’m Emmet, obviously. Your special best friend.”

“B-but,” Lucy stammered, “your face...”

Rex frowned, reaching a hand up to probe at his jaw. Sure enough, paint flecks came away in his hand, revealing the stubble and defined cheekbones underneath.

“Aw shucks,” he drawled, staring at the paint in his hand. “Guess I can’t fool you anymore.” His voice shifted, now distinctly different from Emmet’s. “My name is Rex Dangervest. Of course, I can’t blame you for being fooled. After all, I do a really good Emmet impression.” His lips twisted into a wide cat’s grin, and he started walking towards her.

“An imposter?” Lucy thought. “But when had he...” Her mind reeled momentarily before settling on her memory of that morning one week ago when Emmet hadn’t shown up for coffee.

“Last monday,” she whispered to herself, shaking her head.

“Yup!” Rex replied with a frenetic kind of cheer. “Perceptive as usual. And don’t lie to me, Lucy, but it’s been better with me here, hasn’t it?”

“What?” Lucy’s head snapped up in shock and anger. “How can you say that? Emmet is my best friend, and-”

Rex scoffed. “Oh sure, sure… That’s why you’re constantly telling him to toughen up, right?”

“No, I-”

“And that’s why it took me risking his neck in Business's relic vault for you to say that you were proud of him, to say that you loved him.”

“No! That’s not-”

“And that’s why he LEAPT at the chance to learn how to be tough. Why he was so, so easy to lure out of town...”

Lucy’s voice froze in her throat. This guy, this Rex, was horrible.

But, was he wrong?

She’d been spending time with him all week, and she hadn’t noticed anything weird or wrong until just recently. Had she really been enjoying her time with this fake while Emmet was out there, missing somewhere?  

Rex leaned in, looming over her. “You pushed him away. You didn’t realize that he’d been replaced. Be honest, you never really liked him, did you?”

“Why are you doing this?” Lucy whispered, her voice shaking in pain and anger.

He smiled. “Because this time, I’m going to win. Because this time, you aren’t going to get in my way. This time,” he raised his fists in preparation, “Ourmomaggedon will end this pitiful excuse of a world once and for all.”

“SHUT UP!” In a quick, fluid motion, Lucy slapped him across the face. The sound of hand against cheek echoed like a gunshot in the quiet room.

Slowly, he turned back to face her. As his cold eyes met hers, Lucy’s heart skipped a beat. Rex was still wearing Emmet’s clothes, but in this moment they couldn’t have looked more different.

“You call that an attack?” Rex sneered. “This is an attack.” Lightning quick, he reared back before bringing his arm down with a sharp and sudden crack. The back of his hand struck Lucy square in the side of her head, the force of the blow sending her reeling. She collided with the far wall, pain radiating from her temple to her jaw.

She felt sick. Her head hurt like hell, but the ache in her heart went even deeper. With a sort of numb resolve, she started crawling towards Mayhem’s cell. This Rex jerk might have gotten the jump on her, but this wasn’t a fight Lucy was planning on losing.  

“L- Lucy?” A trembling voice sounded from inside the cell. “Are you ok?”

Rex laughed, an answer that did nothing to assuage Mayhem’s concerns, and brought his fist down towards Lucy. He smacked the ground with enough strength to rattle even the foundational bricks of the prison. In the last moment, Lucy rolled clear, but the sheer force of the blast still shook her. Behind them, even Mayhem cried out in pain.

A plan started to crystallize in Lucy’s mind. This Rex guy was dangerous for sure, but he, like any weapon, could be made to work in her favor.

“You’re wrong, you know,” Lucy spat out. “I do like Emmet.” Shakily, she pulled herself to her feet and rubbed a hand across her face, trying to wipe it clean of sweat and tears.

Carefully, she moved to one side, placing herself directly between Rex and the prison cell. “And,” she continued, meeting Rex’s hateful gaze with a look of cool determination. “Once I’m finished with you, I’m gonna go out there and bring him home.”

Rex’s face twisted in bafflement and rage. With an animalistic roar, he lunged forward. Lucy leapt sideways, narrowly avoiding being hit again. Behind her, Rex’s fist connected with the wall, sending bricks and smoke high into the air. Debris scattered, a few pieces striking Lucy as they fell.  

“Now, Mayhem!” She cried. “Get out now!”

The smoke cleared, revealing the lovely new hole punched out of the cell wall. With the flutter of metallic wings, Mayhem flew in a wobbling line, lurching out of the hole and up through the ceiling.  

“NO!” Rex screamed. It was an angry, heartbroken sound, and it shook Lucy worse than his fists ever could.

Silence fell, and for a moment, the only sounds were the two of them panting from exertion.

“You ruined everything.” His voice was low and quiet. “You always ruin everything.”

A shiver ran down Lucy’s spine. There was no doubt in her mind that this guy wanted nothing more than to break her into as many pieces as possible.

“Well,” she said, a confidence in her voice that she didn’t truly feel. ”It sounds to me like I’ve stopped this Ourmomaggedon thing, so I might argue that I’ve done the opposite of ruining, actually.”

Rex did not look amused. “There are worse things than Ourmomaggedon, Lucy.” He turned, glaring at her with cold, lightless eyes. “I think you might realize that soon.”

Lucy raised her own fists, although she knew she couldn’t hit like he did. She had no idea how he hit so hard, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to learn the technique fast enough to try it herself. On the edge of desperation, she started looking around for building materials and inspiration.

Suddenly, something above them went splat, and a glittery star-shaped sticker went sailing into Rex’s face. He cried out, but was quickly silenced by the barrage of stickers assailing him, effectively pinning him to the floor.

“Lucy?” Mayhem’s artificial voice filtered out from her helmet as she flew down into the room. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” she answered, slowly unclenching her fists. “Thanks to you.”

Mayhem blushed, thankful for once that her mask obscured her face.

“But,” Lucy continued. “You were supposed to leave! As long as you stay here, Ourmomaggedon gets closer. Isn’t that what you said?”

“I- ” Mayhem faltered. “I wasn’t just going to leave you, Lucy. Not after you’ve risked so much to help me.”

“Oh,” a faint smile crept onto Lucy’s face. “Um, thanks.”

“You already said that, silly!”

Before Lucy could respond, the lock that she’d built earlier suddenly broke, allowing the door to the room to swing open. A gaggle of assorted Master Builders streamed in, crowding themselves between her, the General, and Rex’s fallen form.

“Wyldstyle!” Benny pulled himself away from the group, clutching Metalbeard’s head under one arm. “Are you okay?”

“Of course she be alright.” Metalbeard groused, clearly still upset about his short-lived career as a shotput.

“I’m fine,” Lucy answered frantically, quickly losing control over the situation. “Listen, don’t-”

“Why is the alien out?” Batman growled, taking Mayhem roughly by the shoulders and ripping the sticker gun from her hands.

“Guys, don’t-” Lucy tried again to interject.  

“What happened?” Benny spun around, taking in the full extent of the damage.

“Be we under attack again?” Metalbeard inquired.

“Was it the alien?” Another voice sounded from somewhere in the crowd.

“What did she do?” Someone else piped up.

“What did you do?” A third voice demanded.

“Guys!” Lucy cried out, desperate to be heard above the clamor. “Please, just calm down. I can explain everything.”

“Hey!” She heard a voice cry out from the other side of the crowd. “What happened to Emmet? Someone help me get him up.”

“NO!”

The words ripped themselves from her throat. The other Master Builders froze in their tracks. “Don’t,” she panted. “Don’t let him out.”

“Wyldstyle,” Batman growled. “You need to explain.”

“I’ve been trying to!” She snapped. “I… It’s… That isn’t Emmet. His name is Rex.”

The crowd abruptly fell silent. Lucy knew they were waiting for her to continue, to explain further, but the words were stuck in her throat. If she said that Emmet was gone, then it would really be true - irrevocably, irreversibly true.

Swallowing hard, she pressed on. “He kidnapped Emmet a week ago.”  

There was a shuffling sound as a number of people shifted awkwardly away from the huddled wad of stickers. In a sort of silent consensus, everyone’s eyes turned to her.

“What should we do, Wyldstyle?”

Lord Business told a lot of lies in his time as a ruler, some more obvious than others. However, one thing he never lied about was his relics. If he said a relic could hurt you or kill you, then it absolutely could.  

Lucy would always hold a lot of resentment towards Business, but in this moment, watching Rex Dangervest struggle futilely to escape from the Tape-estry of Ducks, she couldn’t help but feel some small amount of gratitude.

“You really think this will hold him?” Benny asked, a tremor in his voice.

“Yeah,” she answered resolutely. “If he could get out, then he already would have.”

Rex glowered at them. They had taped him from the shoulders down, in a standing position with his arms crossed against his chest. He could feel the wall pressing against his back, but he couldn’t break it without being able to move at least a little. Anger and resentment were integral parts of Master Breaking, but so was momentum.

“Are these all of his things?” Benny asked, looking down at the small pile of assorted items lying on the floor.

“All that I could find,” Lucy shrugged, her gaze never wavering from the prisoner. At the insistence of Batman, MetalBeard and some of the other Master Builders, she and Benny had been tasked with guarding Rex and looking for clues while the others dealt with the General and started diving themselves up into search teams.

Benny knelt down next to the pile. After a moment of looking through everything, one item in particular drew his eye.

“Hey Wyldstyle,” he called. “Check this out, it looks like some kind of communicator.” Benny picked the radio up delicately, as if he were afraid it might explode at any moment. Turning it over in his hands, he carefully started fiddling with the buttons and dials, trying to elicit any kind of response from the device.

Behind the tape, Rex was unconcerned. His radio was triple encrypted, requiring a string of intricate passwords before it would allow the user to make any calls. The only way that the Master Builders would be able to get anything useful out of it was if-

BEEP BEEP BEEP

Rex’s face fell. Oh, fu-

“Hey,” Benny exclaimed. “It’s ringing!”

“Can you answer it?” Lucy pressed, nearly breathless with sudden excitement. Eagerly, she knelt down beside the spaceman, watching him tinker with the device.

“I think so!” Benny clicked a button on the side of the remote and the ringing was replaced by a burst of live static.

“Hello?” Emmet’s voice came through the speaker. “Are you there, Rex?”

“EMMET!” Their voices rang out simultaneously.

Lucy grabbed the remote, clutching it to her chest like it was the most valuable thing in the universe. “Emmet,” she cried. “Is that really you? Are you okay? Where are you?” The questions spilled out of her faster than she could control.

“Lucy?” Emmet replied, confusion clear in his voice. “I- I’m fine. Didn’t Rex tell you? I’m on his ship right now. It’s super cool and tough, Lucy. I really think you would like it!” He paused for a moment, losing some of the chipperness in his voice. “Hey, is everything okay? You sound kind of sad.”

“Listen Emmet,” Lucy cradled the radio, trying to ignore the rogue tear that had started slipping down her cheek. “Rex is-”

“HEY!” Rex shouted from across the room. The Master Builders all jumped instinctively, having almost forgotten his presence in their excitement. “HEY RIPLEY!,” he called again. “If you can hear this, I need you to drop off my laundry!”

There was an inhuman screech on the other end of the radio, another burst of static, and then silence.

“Emmet?” Lucy asked in numb disbelief. There was no answer except for the dead air.

Gently, Benny took the communicator from her. With a look of concern, he set to figuring out the device with a renewed vigor.

Still stunned, Lucy slowly stood up and turned to face their prisoner. Rex’s grim expression almost matched her own, but she was beyond noticing.

“What did you do?” She breathed.

“It wasn’t supposed to come to this.” His voice was uncharacteristically soft. “You forced my hand.”

“Just tell me where Emmet is!” Lucy screamed, a sense of burning, passionate anger breaking through the numbness until it was the only thing she could feel.

“Somewhere you’ll never find him.”

Lucy felt like she was suffocating, or burning alive, or maybe both at the same time. There was a thick, constrictive heat overwhelming her, squeezing the air from her lungs and the tears from her eyes. She choked back a sob, trying futilely to maintain any sense of composure.

Emmet had been so close. She hadn’t realized just how much she’d missed his face, his voice, his cheerful smile... until Rex had taken it all away again.

“You’re a monster.” She hissed.

“I know.” Rex’s voice was quiet, to the point that Lucy thought she might have just imagined him saying anything at all. Regardless, she had nothing left to say to him.

“Benny,” she called out. The spaceman jumped at the sound of his name. “Do you think you could use that device to track down Rex’s ship?”

“I can try,” Benny answered morosely, dwelling in a grief of his own.

“Great.” Lucy strode over to the cell door. “I’ll also need you to start building a rescue ship. If you-”

Benny perked up at the sound of that. “A spaceship? I’m on it!” Before Lucy could finish her thought, he had already launched himself out of the room.

She stood by the door a moment longer. She could feel Rex’s gaze nearly burning a hole through her, but she couldn’t bring herself to look back at him. She didn’t trust herself to say anything to him either, at least, not anything that would be appropriate for a children’s movie.

And so, without so much as a backwards glance, she stepped out of the room, slammed the door, and left Rex Dangervest to stew by himself.

The American Empire Will Fall, Not America Itself The collapse of an entire nation is as spectacular as it is rare. For a nation to simply cease to exist it must suffer such absolute defeat across the entire spectrum of what constitutes a nation; economically, militarily, culturally, socially and politically. What is much more common is a transition from existing, prevailing socioeconomic, political and military orders to new ones driven by new, emerging special interests. It can happen quickly and violently, or take place as a long-term process with ups and downs and both constructive and destructive processes intertwining. For the United States, a massive nation with the third largest population on the planet, the largest military and still currently the largest economy, for it to suffer such full-spectrum defeat is impossible. What is not impossible is for the small handful of special interests currently directing US policy foreign and domestic, to find itself displaced by a new order consisting of entirely different kinds of special interests and, hopefully, special interests that better reflect the best interests of the United States as a whole and function more sustainably among the nations of the world rather than hovering above them. It is a process that is already ongoing. America’s Prevailing Order is Fading The current special interests driving US foreign and domestic policy are centered around Wall Street and Washington and represent an increasingly unrealistic, unsustainable, archaic network based on traditional banking, energy and manufacturing monopolies. Many of the tools used by these special interests to maintain and expand their power and influence including mass media, extensive lobbying, networks dedicated to political subversion abroad and political distractions at home find themselves increasingly ineffective as both the American people and nations around the globe become increasingly familiar with them and as they begin developing effective countermeasures. While US special interests dedicate a seemingly immense amount of time countering “Russian” or “Chinese” “propaganda,” it is primarily alternative media from the United States and its partner nations that have done the most to expose and diminish the unwarranted influence wielded from Wall Street and Washington. Wikileaks is a prime example of this. As America’s elite and their networks weaken, alternatives continue to grow stronger. An unsustainable socioeconomic and political model, coupled with equally unsustainable military campaigns abroad along with a political and media strategy that is no longer even remotely convincing even to casual observers demarks what is an irreversible decline of America’s current, prevailing order. America’s Elite Face Challenges from Within as Well as From Abroad The topic of Chinese corporations out-competing long-established US monopolies has become an increasingly common topic across global media. It is indeed this process that has precipitated the seemingly pointless and futile US-led trade war against China, a futile exercise that seems to only highlight the decline of America’s established elite rather than address it. Corporations like Huawei, despite facing serious setbacks owed to US sanctions and efforts to undermine them, still move forward, while their US competitors continue to struggle. This is because despite setbacks, Huawei is built upon a solid foundation of business and economic fundamentals, while its American counterparts, despite their initial advantages owed to a lack of competition, have neglected and continue to neglect such fundamentals. But Chinese corporations aren’t the only challengers America’s established elite face. Within the US itself some of the most innovative and disruptive companies in the world are cropping up, challenging not only foreign competition but also long-established monopolies based in the US. Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is a perfect example of this. Its breakneck pace of innovation, high-profile successes and the disruptive impact it is having on traditional car manufacturing is setting back the American car industry first and foremost. It also poses a serious threat to the petroleum-centric energy model the US has adopted and propagated globally for over a century. American car manufacturing monopolies have spent decades developing a model of planned obsolescence and marketing gimmicks as a stand-in for genuine consumer value and innovation. The industry has become a means of simply making as much money as possible and to increase profits each year, with “making cars” merely the means through which this money and the influence it buys is being accumulated. Tesla has for years now been growing both in terms of business and in terms of sociopolitical influence. US car manufacturing monopolies have attempted to ape the most superficial aspects of Tesla’s appeal, but have entirely failed to examine or replicate the substance that drives the new company’s success. Just as the US elite have attempted to use what could be described as “dirty tricks” rather than direct competition to deal with competitors like Huawei abroad, similar “dirty tricks” have been employed against disruptive companies within the US itself like Tesla. Attempts by faux-unions to complicate Tesla’s US-based factories are one example of this. US-based aerospace manufacturer SpaceX is another example of an American-bred competitor directly challenging (and threatening) long-established US monopolies, in this case aerospace monopolies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Northrop Grumman. SpaceX is not only driving aerospace innovation forward at breakneck speeds, it is driving down the overall cost of access to space at the same time. It is doing this at such impressive rates that established aerospace monopolies like Lockheed, Boeing and Northrop, even with their immense lobbying networks, are unable to dissuade SpaceX customers (including the US government itself) from purchasing rides on its rockets. Bloated monopolies who have become overly reliant on maintaining profits through lobbying and political games have little means to overhaul their massive organizations in the face of real competition as it emerges. Because of this, the prevailing order driving US policy faces an insurmountable obstacle that already appears to have resulted in terminal decline and displacement. Those doing the displacing stand to assume the position at the levers of American power and influence, with an opportunity to set an entirely new course into the future that will have a fundamental impact on both the American nation and its people, and the nations of the world it will interact with. America’s New Order May Seek Genuine Competition and Collaboration Tesla and SpaceX are prominent examples, but by no means the only examples of the ongoing transition that is increasingly evident within America. There are emerging innovations and companies threatening virtually every area America’s current elite dominate. From the alternative media targeting the deeply rooted corporate media of America, to a growing movement of local organic farmers chipping away at America’s massive agricultural monopolies, there are already many tangible examples of a transition taking place; a positive transition that those interested in truly addressing the negative aspects of America’s current role globally can invest in or contribute toward. In what is perhaps a hopeful sign of the new America that might emerge as this process continues forward is the fact that emerging disruptors like Tesla are not afraid of collaborating with other nations, seeking to simply do business rather than construct a global spanning network aimed at dominating others. Tesla’s massive Gigafactory going into operation in Shanghai, China takes place as the US attempts to sever China’s access to the economic benefits of doing business with the US for purely political and hegemonic purposes. Despite the apparent hostilities between the US and nations like Russia and China, the consensus in nations targeted by America’s current prevailing order is one of simply wanting to do business on equal terms. Whatever hostility may exist is reserved not for America as a nation or as a people, but toward the handful of special interests obstructing constructive competition and collaboration between these nations and the US. In the near to intermediate future, this process will continue to resemble a bitter struggle as US special interests attempt to maintain their grip on power, fighting against inevitable decline and displacement, and against competitors both abroad and within the US itself. Beyond that, there is a hopeful future where the US finds itself a constructive member of a multipolar world, constructively competing against and collaborating with nations rather than attempting to assert itself over them. Because of this, it is important for nations and peoples to refrain from unnecessary, broad hostilities and to instead patiently weather current efforts emanating from Wall Street and Washington. It is important to establish ties and relations with US interests genuinely interested in true competition and collaboration and who represent America’s future, and to distinguish them from deeply rooted US interests that represent America’s abusive past and and are responsible for America’s current decline. The foreign policies of Moscow, Beijing and even of many emerging and developing nations may seem overly passive or appeasing, but around the capitals of the world many are aware of the transition taking place in America and are attempting to position themselves advantageously for the fall of the American Empire so they can do business with those who assume the levers of power in America once it does.

Kalle and Lita’s Roleplaying Rules Master Post

Hi! The Mun from the Warhammer Roleplay Blog @Kalle-and-Lita here. It’s been a few months since I came into the Warhammer Roleplay community (March or April I believe) and I figured it was high time I made a master post of who I am, my muses, and my rules, for ease of use.

About the Mun:

I’ve been part of tumblr since about 2010, though I’ve been a part of the fanfiction/Ao3 community since 2006 when I was about thirteen. So I’ve been writing for a good while, and it’s a hobby I have a lot of passion for. In my mind, there’s nothing more empowering than creating your own world so vivid in one’s mind, and I love sharing my work with people. I don’t write for praise, or recognition, I write because I love it and I want to share my ideas with other people, and have others share their ideas with me. I suppose that’s why I love the roleplaying community so much, because we’re all authors collaborating to make an awesome story with our characters.

The Mun’s Rules:

I’ll do my best to keep this as simple as possible, for ease of use and reference.

Be kind: I think this rule says it all; and this is a non-negotiable. Any unwarranted attacks on my personal being or integrity is not going to be tolerated and will get you blocked. End of Story.

Be courteous: This rule reflects both ways, I believe. I will try to reply to a post at least once a day, unless both of us are really into the current thread, but also understand that I do have a life outside of tumblr. If an emergency pops up on my end I will let you know that I won’t be able to reply for a bit until it's resolved.

Communicate: The key to a great relationship is communication. If you don’t like something that me or my muse has done, please let me know so I can fix the problem and apologize. It is never my intention to offend or anger, and I want to know instantly the moment that I do. However, in regards to Rule 1, if for any reason I am lashed out at, called names, or attacked with venom I will drop you immediately. There’s no reason why we can’t talk like adults.

No Godmodding: Neither one of us will dictate what the other character does, and I do my best to hold myself to this standard as well. If I unknowingly transgress upon this rule please let me know so that I can fix it.

No explicit smut: I don’t mind shipping, but would prefer fade to black scenarios and after coitus snuggling instead of details of intimacy. Any pushiness for this scenario will get the Thread dropped.

NO NON CONSENSUAL!: I cannot express this enough; I know the Warhammer universe is supposed to be gritty and grim dark, and I’m okay with writing about gore and violence, but Non Consensual Sex of any kind is an absolute deal breaker, and will result in blocked accounts without preamble. I have not and will not tolerate this on any level.

My Muses:

Lita:

    A native of Nostramo, a planet of eternal night and nearly eternal suffering. Violence is prevalent in every dark corner of the street, and death awaits to the unprepared. Lita grew up in this harsh world, hiding in the shadows until the day her adopted father Rylen found her and saved her. Head Servant in the Palace of Nostramo Prime, she grew up in relative safety, avoiding the wrath of the Barons with the skills Rylen taught her. 

It was until she was much older, and several years after Rylen’s passing, that Lita attracted the attention of the Baron of the Palace. This drew the ire of his wife who subsequently attacked Lita, scaring her face and body irreversibly with a deadly knife, and had her thrown over a balcony to die.

Lita lived, but whether she was lucky to have done so was a matter of debate, for she now lived in near constant pain. The fall had shattered her spine, and it was nearly unfathomable that she could walk again, but walk again she did. Her return to the palace coincided with the ascension of the Night Haunter as the King of Nostramo, bring order to a once ruthless planet through fear.

For the next several decades, Lita served the Night Haunter as his faithful head servant, and confidant, striving with him to keep Nostramo peaceful and in order. Or at least until the day the Imperium of Man came, and the Emperor of Mankind reclaimed his long lost son. It would be several more years of faithful servitude, rife with peril and unrequited emotions on Lita’s end, and the adventure of a lifetime, before she would once again find herself at her King’s side. This time working to bring peace and order to a vast galaxy rife with danger.

Lita’s untimely end came shortly thereafter, at the hand of Nostramo Rebels. Stories persist of her kind character, always willing to reach out with a kind hand instead of a fist, and capable of second chances where there should have been none.

Kalle:

    Kalle was born a Child of the Night, a prison born degenerate of a Mother he didn’t care for and a Father he would never know. He lived his entire life in the pitch black prison pits of Terra, becoming so intuned with the shadows that he called his home, that he eventually learned to control them. It was by luck alone that he was chosen to ascend to the ranks of a Space Marine, becoming but a single cog of many in the Imperiums grand schemes.

    It was no surprise that his ascension landed him as a Night Lord, a figure of terror that planets whispered in fear of. However, unlike several of his gene-kin, Kalle took no joy in the murder and torture of innocents. Instead, he preferred his own company and his books, fighting only when necessary. His kills were clean, quiet, and precise, nothing more and nothing less. Fearing that his odd ways would be seen as a weakness, Kalle kept himself apart from his kin on missions, until an incident involving a Xeno resulted in a near all out brawl between him and his battle brothers.

    It was only by First Captain Jago Sevatarion’s interference that Kalle escaped death that day, and his actions caught the attention of Lita, right hand of his Primarch, Konrad Curze. Shortly after the brawl he was taken from active duty to serve as Lita’s bodyguard upon the Nightfall and when she participated in planetary compliances, much to Kalle’s chagrin. It was only due to Lita’s persistence, kind and understanding nature, and her defence of Kalle when Curze found out about his Psychic Nature, that the two formed a close bond.

Becoming that of a Mother and her son, Kalle wholly devoted himself to Lita until her untimely execution, an event in which Kalle would forever blame himself and his Primarch for. Enraged at Konrad Curze for his failures in preventing Lita’s death, and every other terrible event he foresaw, Kalle engaged in single combat with his Primarch in hopes that he would die. His Primarch did not grant this, cruelly leaving Kalle to live only because he had been Lita’s favorite. After his recovery, Kalle defected from his Legion, manning a singular vessel and escaping across the fringes of Imperial Space before the Horus Heresy.

He would spend the next several hundred years in self imposed exile, eeking out a living out of his unwillingness to die a dishonorable death. Eventually, he would come into contact with the native feral humans of the planet, forming a close bond to a little boy whom he dubbed Veselin, for his joyful personality. Veselin became like a son to him, and even long after his son’s death Kalle would watch over his family line for the next several generations.

Or at least until the new Imperium of Man came, and burned his second homeworld to the ground. Distraught, Kalle took up his weapons and killed as many as possible, using their latent psychic energies to break open a sealed temple he’d found in his time on the planet. Inside, he found the remains of a Cult that could create life and bring back the dead, and latching onto the unhealthy obsession of bringing back all that he’d lost, Kalle commandeered and Imperial Vessel and once again set off into the stars.

Several more years would pass as Kalle pursued his unhealthy obsession, finally culminating in an attempted resuscitation for Lita, summoning her spirit from the void to inhabit a different body. This form of Lita looked to all the pain and destruction Kalle had wrought in his attempts to cheat death, lamenting that Kalle had lost his way in his grief. She denied the sacrificial body that had been presented to her, stating that she could never be happy with new life with all the death he caused.

This resulted in a full mental breakdown, Kalle having lived his life thus far on the hopes that he could have back everything that had been ripped away from him. As the last vestiges of power slipped away from the summoning spell Lita begged Kalle to find a new life to live, to hold onto the hope that he could have a better future full of laughter and love, leaving him unsure that he ever could.

In Africa nay Nigeria, it is the way older men marrying younger ladies, whether single mothers or not, and not the other way round. Or way older men marrying under-age girls. This is prevalent in the predominantly Muslim north of Nigeria. Music divas like Madonna and Tina Turner are classic examples of older white ladies, and celebrities for that matter, who had reveled in toy-boy bliss at some points in their life  . If my memory serves me right, Tina Turner's current husband is way younger than her.

They so easily forget or gloss over the simple truth that women just like men jilt making it a non-gender issue. 4) They demand that men who are wooing them to love their child (ren), in some cases, more than their Exs who got them pregnant. They do it even as a precondition for dating men and so missed out on the chance to get hooked sooner than expected. 5) They mournfully argue child bearing is no disease. Indeed, nobody thinks it is. However, when their relationship suffers a setback, they are quick to think it was as a result of their being single mothers. They tend to overlook other remote reasons that might be responsible for such. This they also do, when in truth, their kid(s) is standing in the way of a new relationship, especially, if the new guy sees it as a burden he cannot carry. 6) They want the new guys to take them with their baggage even if the guys dont have the means to do so. More so, they do it when they're not prepared to make amends. 7) They usually think their status is the fault of men who got them pregnant forgetting they owe it to themselves to say no or at least insist some form of preventive measures are adopted. 8) They are always the suckered ones. They assumed they are about the only ones that are the target of men whose game plan is to fool women. This is a false or wrong attitude to take into a relationship. 9) They over-dramatized the necessity for caution. Yes, having suffered disappointment in a previous relationship should be an eye opener to the pitfalls in a poorly handled affair. Nevertheless, it shouldn't call for over-dramatizing caution when it comes to starting a new relationship. People rise and people fall. When one has fallen, don't hesitate a second to get back on your feet.
