#3 Pride Month Story

Hey all! Sorry for not posting one in a week or something like that. I wanted to post one every day, but apparently graduating and working is a lot more work than it should be. This story is based on polyamory. I'm not saying that this story is how poly-amorous relationships go, neither is it how they don't work out for those who are poly. This is merely what I've experienced from the peers around me. I'm not poly, so I won't be able to make this one too personal like I was able to accomplish with the Bisexual Story.

I struggled a lot to figure out which anime I wanted to showcase for this one. In the end, it came down to My Hero Academia. These stories are merely fan-based and none of them are accurate to the shows correlated with the story. I know that the sexualities in MHA are pretty clearly stated, so please do not take offense to any ships I have going for this one.

I will not be using an OC (original character) for this one. I will be using the characters that are within the anime. This will be written in the POV of Jirou Kyoka.

My name's Jirou Kyoka. It's no secret that I like males and females, but what people don't really know about me is that I'm polyamorous. I've kept it a secret from my current U.A classmates for about a year now, but it's not exactly working out for me anymore. I'm dating one of my classmates, Kaminari Denki. If you're wondering, I didn't tell him that I'm interested in open relationships. It's a huge oops on my end, but I'm almost 100% certain that Denki is no stranger to polyamory. I know I have to tell him soon about myself. Things just might get out of hand if I don't tell him because. . .

I think I'm in love with Yao-Momo. It's a huge struggle to stop myself because I know there are people out there that aren't like me. Heck, Yao-Momo might even shut me down because of my sexualities for all I know, not just Kaminari.

Shit man, this is kind of terrifying. Then again, Yao-Momo hasn't pushed me away ever since I came out as bisexual, so who knows? Maybe she won't shut me out if I tell her another part of me?

But then again, how will Kaminari feel? Will he push me away? I know I still want to be with him, but I also want to be with Yao-Momo. If they don't want to be together, they don't have to be. This kind of relationship doesn't always have to be a throuple. Why is this confusing?

I take a deep breath in and look ahead of me. Walking to lunch with the swirling thoughts of concern and confusion has made me lose my appetite, but the show must go on. Can't work in Aizawa Sensei's class on an empty stomach.

I reach the cafeteria and gather my meal. I go to sit with Ashido, Kirishima, Bakugou, Sero, and my boyfriend Kaminari. I must've been visibly distraught because as soon as I made my appearance at the table, the entire crew forced their gazes onto me. I set my plate down next to Kaminari's before wiping the sticky cold sweat from my forehead. Well, that's disgusting.

"Jirou, you look like you've seen a ghost. Are you okay?" Ashido speaks up against the silence. Her face grew into a look of concern.

"Yeah, I'm just nervous today is all. I think I forgot my Anti-Depressants or something." Well, that's at least half of the story. I don't need them to know more. Wait, did I really forget mt Anti-Depressants? What the fuck I'm so fucked. Calm Down, Kyoka. It's just one day. ONE DAY! Why am I scared again? Oh, right. I have to confess something to my boyfriend as well as Yao-Momo. Cool.

"Girl, you look like you're buggin' over there."

"Kyoka, what's wrong?" Kaminari asks me as he gently presses his hand upon the middle of my back.

I've gotta admit. This is eating me ALIIIVE I tell you. "Hey, um, Denki, Do you think you could get Yao-Momo and meet me out in the hallway? I need to talk to the both of you." THAT MAKES IT SOUND LIKE HE'S CHEATING OH GOD.

"Uhm, okay?" He takes his confused self over to Yao-Momo's table to take her out into the hallway. While he's grabbing her, I tell the gang that everything is okay; Kaminari did nothing bad and I just needed to have a small talk with them about class half of that explanation being a lie to save my own ass.

Sero, Kiri and Ashido look at me in question, but shrug it off while Bakugou doesn't pay an ounce of attention to the conversation. . . which I'm thankful for. He would have told me to get the fuck out if I wanted to be a pussy, and that's the last thing I need right now.

I meet Denki and Yao-Momo in the hallway I've told them to meet me. I take in a deep breath, shake my hands, and wiggle my feet.

"What's going on here, Jirou?" Yao-Momo asks me, her motherly concern expressing itself like a warm summer day.

I take in a huge gulp of air and. . . .

"I'mpolyamorousandI'minlovewiththebothofyouandIcan'thelpitandIwasn'tgoingtosayanythingbecauseIfeellikeIwillbejudgedandlosemyrelationshipsthatIhavewiththebothofyou."

Denki's face goes completely blank while Momo's reaction is one of shock.

"Wait a minute, are you asking for a relationship between the three of us?" Momo asks. How the hell did she manage to understand me?!

"I- I don't really know what I'm asking! I love tthe both of you and I want to be with the both of you, but you two don't need to date if you don't want to!" The cold sweats come back harder this time. I wipe my face all over, as well as my neck, with the handkerchief from my breast pocket.

"Jirou, I'm glad you're coming clean to us, but-"

"A relationship with the both of you?! Maaaaan that sounds like a dream." Interrupts Denki as he goes off daydreaming about scenarios.

"I'm not on the same page as Kaminari." Announces the obsidian-eyed female. "For one; I don't want to be in an awkward situation in such a relationship, two; it's not for me, and three; I'm with Shoto now."

I look at her dead in the eye. I really panicked over nothing. How could I not know that she was dating Shoto? She's been oddly close to him for six months, there was no way for me to miss that. Yet. . . somehow I missed it.

"Jirou, I don't like girls either. So in any situation I wouldn't have told you yes. I'm as straight as they come. I don't agree with your lifestyle or your sexualities, but just know that I still like you as a person aside from that. I will be on my way to eating now. Thank you and goodbye." Momo storms back into the lunchroom she had just left.

That hurt like a bitch. Wow.

Denki walks up to me and hugs me tight for a long few moments. As he pulls away from me, he wipes my tears away. "Kyoka, I need you to know that I support you. If you want an open relationship, I'm on board, okay?"

I nod slowly before bursting into tears. Tell me why this hurt? I knew she wasn't going to go for it. . . then again I still fantasized about something that could have been. Maybe that's why this hurt.

Thank god for Kaminari Denki. If he weren't by my side, I don't know what I would have done.

"Thank you for being supportive." I sniffle. I take his hand into mine before we both walk into the cafeteria. My eyes were bloodshot and tear-stained while Denki had a solemn smile on his face. It was almost as if he was hurt by Momo as well.

I just hope this kind of pain doesn't happen too often because this actually kind of hurt, not gonna lie. . .

I'm not sure if i would ever trade Denki for the world. For him to be supportive and loving still means so much to me, and it only makes me love him all the more so.

On Coralians: An Infodump No One Asked For ✌

Please enjoy this big old wall of text explaining both the canon and my headcanons about how Coralians work and what bearing these headcanons have on my portrayal. There’s also some tidbits borrowed from the wiki for those not familiar with the universe. Sections have headings for when you inevitably don’t want to read the whole thing.

What is a Coralian?

Coralian is a catch-all term for any creature born of a plant-like intelligent alien life form called Scub Coral. The Scub Coral originally crashed into the Earth's atmosphere sometime in the 21st century. They survived a collision with an artificial satellite (named Eureka) and landed in the Pacific Ocean, fusing with the Ocean’s coral and eventually joining humans as a dominant species on planet Earth.

Tthe Scub Coral are capable of growing into an enormous size in the blink of an eye, which is one of the primary reasons humans fear them. Their tendency toward growth and expansion across the world causes tectonic shifts and disrupts the land regardless of the placement of things like cities and towns.  Their metabolic process produces a particulate matter called Trapar, much the same way plants release oxygen and humans exhale CO2. Trapar behaves like water or strong wind currents and is the basis for flight in both human technologies that use it as an energy source and in animals whose bodies have evolved to reflect it.

So They’re Like Corals but Also They’re...People? Sounds Dumb, Bro.

At this point I would like to emphasize something stated earlier: despite having a plant-like appearance, Scub Corals are an intelligent, conscious life form. Though they cannot speak in their natural form, Scub Corals are able to think and to reason, and every creature born of the Scub Coral has a connection to a central connected consciousness that encompasses all Coralians.

While most Scub Coral are plant-like in appearance, the Scub Coral eventually became capable of growing life forms that resemble types of fauna it has previously fused with. For example, the Scub creates dangerous fish-like creatures called anti-body Coralians to protect the control center of their consciousness from threat.

In much the same way, humanoid Coralians were eventually grown in order to bridge the gap between the Scub Coral and humankind. The purpose of these humanoid Coralians is to be a blank slate that can learn to communicate with humans and be impressed upon by them. Eventually that humanoid Coralian will return to the Scub Coral to relay what they learned.

That’s how creatures like Eureka, Sakuya, and Gonzy came to exist.

It’s also worth noting that Archetypes, the exoskeletons that the cool giant robots are built upon in this universe, are actually alive. Archetypes are the first failed attempts of the scub coral to create a humanoid being.

Traits of Coralians 

Hive Mind

So if these are all the same creature,  how is it that some are coral, some are kaijus, and some are people?  What do they all have in common? Well, for one, they all participate in the Coralian hive mind. In my portrayal, Eureka will have some level of awareness regarding will of her kind at all times.  She may not be actively thinking about it or asking about it, but it’s there.  Coralians do not want to be disconnected from their collective consciousness and humanoid Coralians in particular will become emotionally distressed if at any point that happens. Coralians need to exist in an interconnected group.

It is implied on multiple occasions that Renton has inadvertently accessed  some portion of this collective consciousness in the mine, where he hears Eureka’s voice in his mind when she needs help. He also has conversations with her in his dreams that she later recalls the details of when he is awake.

I have a lot of headcanons about the future utility of this trait--mostly that Coralians can form unions of consciousness with humans, but since humans aren’t built for that it’s not very reliable or constant the way it seems to be between Coralians. You probably couldn’t have a full on conversation with your Coralian friend who is across town, but you’d have no problem calling vaguely out to one another if there was trouble. You couldn’t reliably spend an hour cheating on a test together inside your brains, but you could have the best improv game in town. Maybe you can’t communicate the grocery list without calling one another but you might get the vague sense that you need milk at home. Your coralian friend might be able to accompany you unprompted if you broke out into a spontaneous musical. It’s a great party trick but it doesn’t suffice as a main mode of communication the way it does between coralians.  In general your coralian friend will be extremely adept at picking up on what you’re thinking compared to most people, but only because this method of connection was their first language in a way that is not true for humans.

Eyes

Not all Coralians need to be able to see, but those who have eyes all share the same distinctive eye type which differs from humans. Their eyes are invariably a purple color with a ring around the iris. These eyes are built to be able to see Trapar, a particulate matter that in large quantities is toxic to them. Naturally occurring Trapar is invisible to the human eye, but to a Coralian it takes on a luminescent greenish color that says STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME. 

Wings

Speaking of Trapar, Eureka’s wings are designed not to be flapped against air currents like those of birds or insects. Rather, they are designed like the bodies of skyfish to reflect trapar and glide on top of it.

I honestly hc that she molts the outermost layer on those wings every month or so, the same way reflection film has to be changed on the ships and LFOs in order to keep flying on top of the trapar waves.

sso basically a mom accidentally kills her son and herself in a car accident, her ghost witnesses her son’s and her body lying on the ground and death comes to her as a taxi cab driver, says there’s nothing anyone can do to save the boy, then offers her a ride. she falls asleep in the cab and he drops her off at the dock where she promises him she’ll be back. and then falls asleep on her friends boat where they set sail to sea in the bermuda triangle. this is where the loop resets itself. she has flashbacks in her dream of what happened to her before, when she washes up on shore after being thrown overboard, then she wakes up with no recollection of what happened, is confused, and doesnt’ realize she’s in a loop until after they board the cruise liner after the sailboat had capsized in the storm , and sees two copies of herself fighting each other, then like clockwork, the next group of their copies board the ship. she tries her hardest to change what she knows is supposed to happen (fate) to no avail. the fact that she’s willing to kill her friends to get the loop to stop shows how much she loved her son, how desperate she is for him back, also a feeling of guilt that she was a dick to her autistic son, and for possibly causing their deaths. the loop of them boarding the ship doesn’t restart until all of them are dead. so she thinks she needs to kill them all and then prevent the next group from coming onto the boat in the first place, so they can find another way to return to land. but she can’t do this, she can’t prevent this from happening no matter what she does, she’s tried many, many times. 

eventually she gets pushed over the ship by her own copy and washes up on shore, she runs back to her house and sees herself yelling and hitting her autistic son for accidentally spilling paint water when he sees this other copy of his mother outside the window looking in. she then goes to the shed gets a hammer and kills her, her son sees, reassures him it’s just a dream, puts the body in a bag in a trunk, they drive away, she hits a seagull, goes to throw the dead bird into the ocean but realizes there’s already seagulls there, indicating she’s still in the loop. she gets to her car, frantic, speeds away, crashes head on into a truck, and the loop starts over again with death coming to her. he takes her back to the dock so she can try to save her son again.

tthe only thing i dont’ understand is wh y did she have her keys with her on the cruise ship in the first place if the taxi drove her there intitally. 

there’s some time gaps i don’t fully understand like where does the story really start, with the car accident? if that’s what happened in the first place? they die, she tries to go back and save them. on the cruise ship they told a story about sisyphus, who was a greek mythological character who was granted one more day in the living world to do some unfinished business , to meet him back but instead he ran away with his wife and when he reached his natural death, his punishment , essentially in hell, was to push a rock up a mountain only to have it fall once he reaches the top. stuck in a loop, he was to keep doing this until he got the rock to the top. that’s how the story goes. in the movie, death does give her another chance when he tells her i’ll keep the meter running , and she promises that she will come back, although she never intends on it, she does. she tries to drive away in the car with her son, but she gets in an accident, death comes back to her, and she tries again. i can’t figure out if she herself is causing the loop to repeat itself, like she’s in some sort of pergatory, having unfinsihed business as a ghost, unable to accept fate/reality/ the fact that she died and so did he. 

or if she’s forced to go through this over and over again, like the greek myth. perhaps she is alive on the sailboat before they get capsized. hm, maybe that’s how she actually dies, and the cruise ship liner is her ghost’s way of finding her way back to earth . it would make sense that the cruise ship is not real life, despite all the gory carnage that ensues on it. 

i think this is what happened:

according to the movie, the captain of the sailboat asked her, the mother, to join them on a sailboat ride with a couple of high school friends. they encounter a storm in the bermuda triangle that capsizes the ship, in reality, i think this is how she actually dies in real life. the cruise liner that passes them while theyre capsized and waiting for help is literally a ghost ship, there’s no one on it, but there is fresh food available as if there were people just there. it’s from like the 30′s and is super old timey looking, it even had a record player that played during the moments she realized she was in a loop.

aeolus is the name of the ship in the movie. in greek mythology, aeolus is the wind god. in homer’s odyssey,  “ Aeolus gave Odysseus a closed bag that contained all winds, but for the gentle West Wind that would take him home. However, Odysseus' companions, thinking the bag contained riches, opened the bag and the winds escaped, blowing the ship in all directions and thus extending their voyage back home.”  the cruise ship is essentially the wind god , who caused the storm in the first place, killing her (thus preventing her return to home) and her friends. them boarding the cruise ship symoblizes their journey in to the afterlife, possibly hell, considering it’s in a terrible time loop, with no conflict resoultion, as in the story of syphisus, where his punishment in the afterlife was to endure the same loop for eternity. 

the story of sysphus was mentioned twice in the movie, as well as imagery of the cruise ships symbol. sysphus cheated death twice, first by tricking death by trapping him in the chains that were meant to chain him, then by lying to queen of underworld when he died of natural causes, who granted him one last day among the living to finish his unfinished business, but to promise to return. he never did so his punishment was to push the rock up the hill for eternity. 

the loop that began on the cruise liner does not stop even though she fell overboard, washed up on shore, and ran back to the house. she’s still in the loop, as indicated by the pile of seagulls on the shore that she disposes of after it hits her car and it dies. she tries to escape the loop, by driving away, until she gets into the accident. her ghost observes their bodies and death comes to her and asks if she needs a ride. i think death does allow her to reenter the living world again for a day, if she comes back to him. although she never intends on doing so. like the syphsis story.. so i suppose then that she was allowed to the living world once, but only once. and she fucked it up somehow, either she killed them on accident again, or she got caught by death, which i suppose is the same thing. now her punishment is to endure this loop for eternity. she definitely cheated death. i’m now aware that sysphus cheated death twice. perhaps she has done the same, or possibly more times.

i think she accidentally died in the boat, her afterlife on the cruise ship is in purgatory “a state after death according to Roman Catholic belief in which the souls of people who die are made pure through suffering before going to heaven. : a place or state of suffering,  Purgatory is place for souls destined for glory but who are not prepared for the beatific vision or being in the eternal presence of God.  “. she endures purgatory on cruise ship, tries her hardest to change and do the right thing, to be a better mother when she witnesses her self being an ass to her son. i’m not sure if she’s stuck in the loop for eternity, or if she chooses to do so, in a way to prepare her soul for heaven, because she still feels unable to accept death. she has unfinished business, so she stays until she feels like she’s ready to ascend basically, she chooses to go through hell time after time again. unless she has to endure it for being an a hole to her son while they were alive. 

“Purgatory is a choice made by a soul who sees the attachment to sin that he still possesses. “ she feels guilty for being a bad mother, so she chooses to remain in pergatory as a ghost on earth. oh my god, i’ve finally figured it out. she goes back to the house as a ghost, fuck, that’s why the doorbell rings and when she answers no one is there. perhaps she is reliving a loop she created for herself or, until she feels shes served penance for her sins.

alright overall thoughts before i rewatch:

i liked it a lot more than s2

LANCE WAS SO GOOD IN IT. SO MUCH QUALITY. SUCH A GOOD BOY. SO GRACIOUS. PERFECT AMOUNT OF REASONABLE LANGST. like he was a dick at first, but i’m kinda glad he was? he needed to just. accept the situation and make the best of it, which he did.

poor keith?? i feel. bad. because he looked so bad for a lot of it. his leadership could be compared to a dumpster fire. but like–who can blame him? he didn’t want to lead, at all, and he’d just lost the most important person in his life again. i didn’t expect much better from him tbh. but then. yeah. it’s bad.

can we fucking discuss how often keith looked at lance with that SOFT, FOND EXPRESSION and that SOFT, FOND VOICE?? i kept thinking i was IMAGINING things but HOLY SHIT. GUYS??? 

listen, allura should’ve been able to pilot red or black. that part was complete and utter BS and led to all my other issues with this season pretty much. 

i just felt really weird about the lion bonds this season. like, the lions just picked someone and that was that. none of it even made sense. i didn’t feel like the lions cared much, not like they did in seasons 1 and 2. it was very…empty and soulless and made me feel really bad. this is by far my biggest issue with this season. by far. 

like wtf @ blue?? why did she reject lance like that? i’m sure that was a large contribution to him telling keith later that he felt like he should just leave. blue didn’t even fight to keep him. she just shut him out and let him figure out what he was supposed to do by himself. what the fuck. the blue i thought i knew from seasons 1 and 2 would not encourage lance to think he doesn’t even deserve to be a paladin. like i’m so ticked at her i’m actually less upset about him losing her. she was being terrible anyway?? which is literally not how i expected to feel, at all.

“i wanted to stay with you” SO FUCKING COMMUNICATE WITH HIM AND MAKE SURE LANCE KNOWS THAT YOU LOVE HIM AND YOU BELIEVE IN HIM, JESUS CHRIST. WHA TTHE FUCK.

also like?? where was red being protective of keith? or blue being fond of lance? or anything? the closest we got to emotions was when allura flirted with blue. 

co-leadership keith&lance actually happened?? i thought that was just wishful thinking but?? 

SVEN!!!! SVEN!!!!!!!! SVEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!! THAT WHOLE EPISODE WAS BY FAR THE BEST IN THE SERIES TBH. SVEN. HIS ACCENT. OH MY GOD. MY MAN. WHERE IS YOUR ROMELLE. I LITERALLY CRIED THROUGH MOST OF THAT EPISODE. TEARS AS I SCREENCAPPED EVERY INSTANCE OF HIS BEAUTIFUL FACE.

“TAKE ME TO THE SPACE HOSPITAL” FUCKING RIGHT. anyone who thought sven was going to die is clearly unfamiliar with the fact that he is, like all norwegians, immortal. 

so uhhh that shiro is 100% obviously a clone. i hadn’t even looked up what the experiment name meant and i knew he was a clone. his hair is way too long, for starters–that would take years. furthermore, why the fuck did they just let him go? however, he’s clearly a sleeper agent clone; even he questions the circumstances of his escape. also keith definitely knows he’s not shiro which is why he’s :( about it. 

interesting that what you’re supposed to assume, on the surface, is that black chose keith over shiro. in actuality, black is cluing us in on the fact that this isn’t shiro. so what’s gonna happen when keith saves the real shiro again?  

listen. i don’t know what else to tell you. keith is in love with lance. literally there were so many fond looks in this season, and it was only 7 episodes. listen. he’s in love. the boy is madly in love. it’s adorable. 

BUT his adoration of lance is blinding him to how seriously lance is considering his place in the team. to keith, obviously lance belongs there!! like duuuuh! so it must just be lance being his ridiculous self again, rather than mentioning something that truly does bother him. 

TBH if shiro was able to pilot black, i wouldn’t have been surprised if lance tried to remove himself from the equation in some way. there’s no way that allura wouldn’t let lance have blue back, and there’s no way that keith would let him leave, so lance would take it upon himself one way or the other. like he said, this is war, and he honestly thinks he’s not good enough. (THANKS, BLUE.) 

however, allura flirting with blue? A++++ perfect scene bye.
