Okay real talk. Rumor was one of the most unique and interesting powers saying the phrase “I heard a rumor” and then being able to warp reality was cool as fuck and now they turned her into dollar store Jean Grey. And it’s just like why? What were we cooking?

It’s just sad that she’s spends so much of the series refusing to use her powers and then suddenly she gets these new ones and look at that she doesnt give a fuck anymore.

So I went searching for special dialogue for a romanced Alistair, who stayed with the wardens, about a HoF who made the ultimate sacrifice. Specifically for what he says in DAI. For reasons.

I know what he says about her when she's alive in DAI, so I was curious if he'd saying anything about her if she's dead, like Leliana and Morrigan do. After reading through all sorts of forms and reddit posts where most of the answers were "huh I dunno what he says in DAI, I've never done that route," I eventually found out what he says.

Nothing.

Romanced Alistair says nothing about a dead HoF in DAI. At first I thought this was odd? Surely there's something referencing the fact that he and the warden were in love? even if just for fanservice like in DA2? Some of the comments on these posts blame it on Bioware doing bad writing again but it's hard to tell if they actually mean that, or if they're conflating "I don't like this" with bad writing because honestly? I disagree.

Intentionally or not, Alistair not saying anything about his dead lover is completely in character for him. He doesn't know the Inquisitor. Why should he tell them anything about the love of his life that he lost ten years ago? He's not as open about that stuff like Leliana or Morrigan.

You know what's actually out of character? Alistair giving a random stranger he met for two seconds an item that belonged to his dead lover because "she doesn't need it anymore."

Wasn't it enough to ruin his face, DA2? Did you really need to throw in some botched fanservice as well?

Wait a minute, Varric's telling this story...

Alright, new headcanon: Varric is, as per usual, full of shit. Alistair did give Hawke an item because he felt bad that he couldn't help them with the qunari except it wasn't anything special. But that's not interesting enough, so Varric lied and said Alistair gave Hawke an item that belongs to THE Hero of Fereldan for the sake of showing how super special Hawke is.

thinking about how one of the responses to the “mages always betray you” thing is “no they just have their own agenda that’s not necessarily betrayal” the context of it and like okay but Does Anders have his own agenda tho? Like “having their own agenda” has the implication of like “they are working with you for their own secret reasons” which applies to Morrigan and Solas because they both join on this Epic Quest To Save The World for reasons other than to be on an epic quest to save the world, ie their own agenda. but Anders didn’t join any epic quest. Hawke doesn’t have any epic quests they go on actually at all. They are literally just living. They are Just A Guy (gender neutral) Doing Things in and around Kirkwall because they don’t have a job. And also Anders is there. so it’s like yeah Anders Has An Agenda and his agenda is Mage Liberation but like it’s not his *own* agenda it’s just An Agenda, much like the Bi Agenda which, as a bisexual, I assume he is also following

Also me, immediately forgetting about Sebastian while finishing Act 2 and making it halfway through Act 3 before I finally notice his Faith quest: ......................Oh. Right. My bad.

The pattern is that people straight up do not read™. or they read a 3-5 tweet summary of what happened and treat it as if they did. or because shonen expectations based on "the classics" is bullshit and significantly rotted people's brains when deciding wether an ending is good or not.

Which could be nothing right

yeahhh. i will forever regret reading the last chapter through leaks because it was a dreadful experience, and watching everyone ever shit on it for like a week after genuinely made me want to just get off the internet forever or something because i felt like an idiot for liking the ending (all this is my fault for getting too invested in both tumblr and mha etc etc).

All the "it's rushed" and pacing complaints barely matter to me at this point because you just cannot feel the pacing of something correctly when you're reading it exclusively through leaks. you can't absorb info like that. And don't get me started on the number of complaints and criticisms I've seen of the last chapter that are just provably bullshit (I saw someone say Izuku didn't get a statue lmao. yes he did, you just read the fucking leaks and watched twitter drama unfold instead of reading the actual chapter i fear).

Cobra Kai S2 - The School Brawl

So this is a weird one to have critique for, because it is by far the best choreographed and otherwise structured fight in the show. It's got a dozen moving parts and it does a lot for every narrative in S3... but it also kind of fundamentally fails at something we need to talk about.

What the fight does?

So Season 1's finale was a tainted victory: Miguel won as the antagonist. Nobody liked it, everyone lost. Johnny got what he always wanted, but on a cursed monkey's paw. It's very good to push Johnny's new narrative of "Maybe Mercy" but isn't a downer ending exactly.

It's just an ending nobody can truly love (in series).

Season 2 is a proper Empire Strikes Back bad end. Evil Wins, Good Loses, everything is darkness ending. It establishes Kreese has Cobra Kai, and his No Mercy brand of Karate is victorious.

...so why does it lose every fight?

Mitch, Bird, Hawk, Tory, and Miguel all lose. It doesn't sell their devotion to 'No Mercy' because No Mercy didn't prevail.

How do we Fix it?

So this is easy: only Miguel loses. Sam does not kick Tory off at the last second before the spike punch to her face (we'll come back to this). Hawk is ready to put Demetri's face through that trophy case. Mitch hits Chris with the book (honestly nothing in that scene worked narratively, but the moves were cool), and the scrawny kids... are still pulled apart by a security guard.

Instead right as Demetri and Sam are about to eat it from their opponents their fights stop by Miguel going over that railing. And both Cobras abandon their fights. Tory abandons it to check on Miguel (showing she does care regardless of if she's mad about the kiss), and Hawk books it after Robby (to show Hawk is still ride or die for his friend). This has two major advantages to it.

The primary one is that it maintains Kreese was "right" in the eyes of the Cobras. Every one of them who showed no mercy won. The only one who lost was Miguel, who tried to be better. Kreese is right, Johnny is wrong (this is the bad end, after all).

And the other advantage?

Demetri and Sam going into S3 angry and scared works better with how close they got to being obliterated. So their early season antics make a lot more sense overall.

This isn't to say Sam's S3 arc is bad, it still works with Sam kicking out. It just works better that she was helpless. So replaying that punch she didn't block can be used as nightmares and PTSD flashbacks all plot.

Am I seriously reading that they made Hawks HPSC president. The HPSC hired Lady Nagant to commit murder, and that was bad, so they replaced the old president with a man who COMMITTED MURDER. AM I LOSING IT???
