do you think you could write where reader is a part of the BAU and gets kidnapped/ hurt by an unsub and spencer saves her? much love and i love your fics!
Hi! Thanks so much for your request. I'll admit this took a bit more brain power than usual 💀 may have gotten slightly carried away creating an unsub lmao
Summary: You go undercover for a case and Reid keeps you company through online messages, only to feel absolutely worthless when you go missing.
Warnings: Typical case descriptions, kidnapping and abuse of Y/N, Reid self-deprecating again but it has a happy fluffy ending so a win.
My Requests are Open! Send me an ask if you want me to write something~ 💕 And check out My Masterlist!
Tumblr media
“Y/N, what do you think? I’m not going to send you in if you’re not confident you can complete the mission.'' Your Unit Chief, Aaron Hotchner, was briefing you on the plan. Luckily for the team, or rather, unluckily for you, you fit the victim profile of your latest case, and with an absence of leads, your last chance to get him before he took another victim was an undercover mission.
“I can do it, but can we establish a background in enough time? He’s devolving and he’s going to need to pick up another victim pretty soon.”
You’d been called in to consult on the case two weeks prior. Local women who lived alone in the metropolitan area had been going missing on a weekly basis for the last three months, and the BAU team had been called in when they’d finally found the dump site of the first three victims.
You’d so far managed to figure out how he was finding his victims from their home computers - a site for young women to look for sugar daddies. You’d previously profiled him as a man in his mid-40s who was going through a personal loss and was lashing out at women who represented someone specific to him, and after searching through the dating profiles, you were pretty sure his stressor was a recent or impending divorce.
But try as Garcia might, these dating websites had a whole lot more encoded data than was expected, and after the Ashley Madison scandal of the previous decade, they’d taken to deleting the majority of their user data regularly so that certain accounts couldn’t be found. Which meant that you were left with a geographical profile you couldn’t pin down, a profile that could match half the men in the city, and a killer that was almost ready to strike again.
“Garcia can get something ready for you in the next 8 hours, and we have some access to some FBI safehouses in the area that we can ready in at the same time. Go get yourself prepared for cover.”
And that’s how you found yourself living in a dingy studio apartment on the south side of the city for two days, waiting to report back about whatever men approached you. There wasn’t much for you to complain about, but you were getting pretty lonely.
You’d greeted your new neighbors and made a show of attending some ‘new to the neighborhood’ events, making sure to get out and about to let the team assess if the unsub was stalking you. Other than that you’d spent the rest of your time in your apartment a constant tab open at the sugar baby website. A few men had been interested, and your computer was cloned and running simultaneously on Garcia’s system so the team could do their best to track suspicious accounts.
The rest of your spare time was, surprisingly enough, spent messaging Spencer Reid. You’d been on the team now for three months, joining the team as a transfer from the blue collar division you’d worked in straight out of the academy. You had spent the same amount of time doing your best to gain confidence to work in the field. Sure, you’d trained for this, but theory and practice were so different and you really didn’t want to fuck up so early into your job.
Which is why, you supposed, that Doctor Spencer Reid was so intimidating to you. Though he admittedly wasn’t the best at field work, noting the amount of exceptions the FBI had to make to allow him outside of the office at all on your first meeting, he was just so damned competent. With three PhD’s, three BA’s and a pending fourth on the way, he was the golden child of the BAU, and you found yourself desperate for his approval. It surely didn’t help that he was also your exact type to boot, and sometimes you found yourself conflicted if you wanted his approval because he was so good at his job or because he was go goddamn good-looking.
With no way to know how the unsub was tracking his victims before he kidnapped them, your team theorized it was unsafe to have physical check-ins, opting instead to set up another account on the sugar baby website, that would be manned around the clock. And tech-averse Reid had volunteered to do the bulk of the manning, leaving you with all the time in the world to talk to him in your private chat room.
sug4rbbY/N: Good evening, Doctor, got any interesting facts for me today? ;)
D0ct0rD0ct0r: Did you know that it is illegal to flirt in Haddon Township, New Jersey? Under the section “Peace and Good Order,” a person may be punished for approaching “any person of the opposite sex unknown to such person and by word, sign or gesture attempts to speak to or to become acquainted with such person against his will.”
sug4rbbY/N: Well, aren’t I glad that we do not live in New Jersey then.
D0ct0rD0ct0r: There’s more where that came from if you’re ever interested.
sug4rbbY/N: I’ll certainly keep that in mind.
sug4rbbY/N: Any plans for the evening, doc?
D0ct0rD0ct0r: Just sitting here talking to you :)
sug4rbbY/N: All by yourself? ;)
D0ct0rD0ct0r: Never feel like I’m alone when you’re online.
sug4rbbY/N: Haha that’s sweet.
sug4rbbY/N: BRB, Doc, my doorbell’s ringing.
You stood up from your desk, a glance at the mirror betraying your feelings, as your flush was prominent. You weren’t sure if it was the intimate nature of the messaging system, or just for the sake of your cover, but the flirty tone of your messages had certainly been leaving you wondering if there could be more to your relationship with your coworker in the future.
You quickly walked over to the door, opening it wide and came face to face with a bouquet of flowers.
“Miss Y/N Harper?” the man behind the bouquet used your cover name to address you, and you hesitated a little before nodding in the affirmative. “Can you sign here please? It’s standard procedure for deliveries like this.”
“But I didn’t order any flowers…” you took the bouquet from the man and grabbed the pen in his hand ready to sign.
“Oh yeah, our shop specialises in anonymous flowergrams. That bunch you’ve got in your hand has some aconite, some white lilies and jasmine flowers.” The delivery man explained, and something in your gut twisted as you listened to his words.
“But aren’t lilies usually meant for funera-” you didn’t get to finish because he had pushed a wet rag to your face, and you had just enough time to shake some small petals off and push them far enough underneath a nearby shoe storage unit before you faded into unconsciousness, your last thought a prayer that your team would uncover your clue.
–x–
Needless to say, when you didn’t check back in a few minutes later, Spencer had alerted every cop in the vicinity of your new apartment that you were gone, and they discovered your apartment empty within ten minutes.
“She was right there,” Spencer ran a hand through his hair in frustration. “She was talking to me and then she just got up and he took her.”
“Reid, calm down, she can’t have been gone long, and we have security cameras all over the building. We’ll find her.” Morgan reassured the younger male while searching the entrance of your cover apartment for clues.
“That’s easy for you to say, it isn’t your fault that she’d gone.”
“And it isn’t yours either, Reid. You did your job, but he wasn’t going to stop until he had her.”
“I should’ve notified the standby officers as soon as she sent through that last message and what was I doing instead? Trying to figure out if she was flirting with me for real or not. I’m pathetic.”
“Reid, get your head back in the game. She’s gone and theres nothing you can do to change that now, but we need your head here or we’re not going to find her. Y/N’s an agent too, remember, she can hold her own. Now look and think.”
“SSA Morgan, Doctor Reid, we may have something over here,” one of the local detectives called the two men over. They’d found the remnants of the petals you’d done your best to scatter, and even though the unsub had taken the bouquet with him, he hadn’t been as thorough as he should have been.
“We didn’t set her up with any flowers when she started her cover, so these must have been bought in by the unsub. I’ll call Garcia, tell her to look for any flower shops within his comfort zone.” Morgan hit the number on his speedial, but before he could start, Reid cut him off.
“Wait, I think we can narrow the search a bit further. Those are Aconite petals, they’re not often stocked by local florists because they have a pretty sinister meaning. They’re usually used to express hatred for the receiver, and because of their poisonous properties most florists don't stock them for fear of doing harm and causing lawsuits. He must be specifically ordering them in to give to his victims. Garcia, can you crossreference the list of florists in the area and check to see how many of them have purchased this plant recently?”
“Just the one. Sending you the address now. Go find our girl Doc.”
–X–
When you came to, in what you assumed to be a backroom of some kind of flower shop, you were bound at the ankles and wrists and there was a gag in your mouth. You struggled a bit against your bindings but it was no good, and you had to reassure yourself that you were going to be okay, doing your best to push down the tears and clear your head.
You decided your best bet was to get to know your surroundings, check to see what was around you and what you could use to your advantage. There was a clock on the wall, and you realised that you’d only been gone half an hour. Reminding yourself that the unsub kept his victims for a minimum of two days did a lot to get your heartbeat back to a normal pace, but it spiked again as soon as you heard the door slam open and your captor walk in.
“Stupid little bitch,” he slurred his words slightly and you could smell the alcohol on his breath as he moved closer to your space in the corner. You tried your best to scamper as far away from him as possible, but he grabbed you by the hair and pulled you up to his face.
You winced at the pain and tried to squirm out of his hold. “Look at you all pathetic now, begging me to let you out. It’s not going to fucking happen, y'know. I’m going to be the last person you see, last person you hear,” he throws you against the wall, pinning you up with his hand on your arms as he sends a leering glance down your shirt and then gives you a disgusting grin. “Last person you touch.”
Your bindings mean your movement is limited, but you still manage to bring both your legs up to knee him in the groin, effectively pushing him off you but landing hard on the ground yourself after you manage to do so.
“Fucking whore,” he shouts at you standing up and dealing a sharp kick to your head that has your vision going white for a minute. “I’ll teach you to fucking mess with me again, you little bitch.” He makes to grab you again, but before he can you hear the blissful sounds of a door being kicked down and the shouts of the FBI to stand down.
Two agents are on him in minutes and you finally allow yourself to let out a deep sob in relief, as a third, very recognisable agent, makes his way to your side.
“Y/N, shhh baby, it’s okay. You’re okay now, I’ve got you,” Reid whispers in your ear as he unties you as gently and carefully as he can. The moment your arms are free you leap into him, wrapping your arms around his neck and pushing your face deeply against his chest. He pulls away just enough to untie your legs, and then lets you burrow into him again.
“I knew you’d find me. Knew you’d understand something from those fucking flowers.” You sob into his chest now, as he strokes your hair, just holding you like that on the floor until you’re ready to move.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I should’ve sent someone to check sooner, and I should’ve never let you accept that stupid cover mission, this is my fault and I'm going to make it up to you. I'm never going to let anyone hurt you ever ag-” he begins rambling but you shut him up again, this time by firmly pressing your lips into his.
“Before you say anything else, this is not transference and I’m not doing this because you saved me, we both know I would’ve done that eventually anyway,” you rest your forehead against his, and after he has time to process what has just happened, he’s wiping the tears away from your face, and gently holding it with both of his hands, leaning in to do it again, gently pressing his mouth against yours as if he’s afraid you might bolt at any second.
“Thank you, again. For finding me,” you whisper to him, the space between you so miniscule now that you barely had to move your lips to know that he understood you.
“Thank you, for letting me find you.” He grinned at you and held you again, determined to never let you out of his arms ever again.

also (because my sanji is a weed smoker not a cig user) will sometimes make weed pastries and they do so well when he sells them

would be the type of student to grumble and complain about homework but still do it anyway (he's just like me fr)
ussop

he found out later that he like working on different things and keeping himself busy

his most frequent customer is sanji because sanji likes the freshest products avaliable
sanji askes him to hang out and try his recipes from time to time and eventually he makes friends with everyone
nami
earth sceiene major with minor in accounting
she is the the most ruthless student you'll ever meet
she don't take any shit from no one regardless of who you are, which is why she makes such a good tutor

he looks stressed at all times and somehow is keeping a 4.0 gpa
luffy and zoro will come over with brusises and he just takes one look at him and sighs deeply
he helps in the nursing home with the doctors because he feels happy when people are treated
he doesn't like when people treat him or others differently so he's such a big advocate for anti discrimination against anyone
he likes helping people that most doctors would ignore and people hate him for that
he's not good at taking compliments so its funny to see him react to the compliments
he loves sweets and he loves when sanji makes them so he's always first in line at sanjis bake sale
he's so cute and small your honor
frankky
mechanic (trade school)
a literal grease monkey

he's a allumi for the school and he takes students every year to train them and teach them what he knows
he only takes like 5 students a year so the spots are very competative and very hard to get into
hes so chill otherwise
the type of mentor to call you out on your bullshit but still
extra little bonus scene!
the gang goes to Jinbe's resturant every week after all they're classes. Luffy had stumbled upon it one day and he just slowly started to get his friends to go their and that's just become their hangout spot since then. Jinbe pretends to hate when they come over but in all actuality, he loves talking to them and getting to know them as a group and as individuals. he loves their energy and will make sure they eat well and they're getting good grades.

Hi there, Goblin is still alive even if I'm not posting too much in here! Today, I bring you a philosophical question.
As you may have read here before, I'm working in integrating Goblin and tumblr tightly. Right now, you can subscribe to tumblr blogs, as long as the blog has an open RSS feed. Basically, Goblin acts as RSS reader of tumblr. But to do so, I'm creating automated accounts mirroring tumblr blogs, so the post can show the avatar, etc, and it has been brought to my attention that may not be well received.
Tumblr media
So, tumblr, I ask you:
Let me explain each option a little bit more:
No-follow: Well, pretty self-explanatory: You shouldn't be able to read any update from tumblr blogs on Goblin
Follow but no-interact: You can follow tumblr blogs feeds in Goblin, but those post don't allow any of the usual interactions (you can't reblog, comment, like)
Follow and interact, but only on mirrored accounts: You can _always_ follow tumblr blogs, but you can only interact with them if your goblin account is connected to a tumblr account, so anything you do in a tumblr-originated post is also done in tumblr using your tumblr account.
Follow and interact, but all the interactions get notified to the tumblr user via a bot tumblr account that comments on the original post linking to the shared goblin post and telling the OP what just happened.
Follow and interact freely: Work fully as it works on any other RSS reader. Once the post is on the blog RSS feed, anyone can read that post from any RSS reader and interact 'locally' with it (For example, you can follow a tumblr blog from WordPress.com reader and like the post there, or reblog it to your WordPress blog, without OP even knowing about it)

Would you like use Mods in BG3 Patch 7?
Tumblr media
Picture is of Ahanu a character i made with all modded colors, items, and options
Let me help you make Baldurs Gate 3 into a dream oc dressup game!
Under read more is a simple how to guide and a link to my list of working 440ish mods with a recommended load order google Spreadsheet
Please use the updated BG3 Mod Manger, dont even look at the in game mod manger for too long or it will eat your saves (not actually, it just does not have a load order so wont work for multiple mods. Do Not Click it and ignore Larian's third part mods warning )
If you have mods installed through the in game mod manager Uninstall Them before continuing.
Tumblr media
If you had mods with Patch 6 you need to delete the modsettings.lsx file from your Baldurs Gate 3 app data folder
Also note if you have modded before Patch 7, Mod Fixer is no longer needed, BG3 now has its own mod fixer baked right in, Delete old Mod Fixer, most mods requiring it still work
If you did not proceed on
If this is your first time modding please find your Mods Folder in C:\Users\YOURWINDOWSUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3
Tumblr media
This is where we will be adding mods downloaded from Nexus or a Mod Makers Patreon
copy the pak file from your downloaded zip folder into your mod folder and boot up BG3 Mod Manger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay now that you have a mod it will show up in the mod manager
On the right side is Uninstalled mods
On the left are Installed mods
To use a new mods just Drag and Drop to the left side in the recommended load order. Some mods automatically end up in the override section so you don't have to worry about em.
Load Order is very important as it is what stops mods from fighting each other and causing problems
Tumblr media
You can now click Save and Export and then click the bg3 start button to test out if it works
Do Not Click In Game Manager IT WILL RESET ALL YOUR MODDING WORK
Tumblr media
Click New Game or Load Save
if you get a pop up just click okay, old saves may not work I'm sorry to say and it's best to start over.
Here's the link to list of mods I use and the order they are in, if a mod didnt work for me I list it as Not Working.
Warning that some mods a Spicy just ignore em if you hate em
Also warning that for some reason the guardian appears to be missing their armor and some of the racial options have glitched under pants. No idea why but i got the main part of the game working so I'm happy lol
Now go forth and create some ocs!
(If you install mods not on my list i cant help you with them the best thing to do is send a Nice message to the mod author that their mod didn't work for you. Follow instruction on the mod's page )

Sticker Cutter Research
I was looking into getting a sticker cutting machine, and I decided to start by looking into cricut which is a well known brand. I had a look at what models they had than their feature etc, but what I was most concerned about was their software. Printer companies like to lock you into a defacto subscription to support hardware you don't really own, and as I was to discover, cricut are operating in a similar way.
The cricut software is online-only*. To cut your own designs you need to use their software to upload your art to their server. There's no way to cut a new design without a logged-in cricut account and an internet connection. At one point in 2021 they flirted with limiting free accounts to 20 uploads/month but backed down after huge community backlash, as far as I can tell.
The incident spawned several community efforts to write open-source firmware for cricut hardware. Some efforts were successful for specific models/serial numbers, but require cracking open the case and hooking in to the debug contacts to flash the chip; not exactly widely accessible. Another project sought to create a python cricut server you can run locally, and then divert the app's calls to the server to your local one.
I restarted my search, this time beginning with looking for extant open-source software for driving cutters, and found this project, which looks a little awkward to use, but functional. They list a bunch of cutter hardwares and whether they're compatible or not. Of those, I recognised the sihouette brand name from other artists talking about them.
I downloaded the silhouette software to try like I did w the cricut software, and immediately it was notable that it didn't try to connect to the internet at all. It's a bit clunky, in that way printer and scanner software tends to be, but I honestly greatly preferred using it to cricut's sluggish electron app⁺. Their software has a few paid tiers above the free one, adding stuff like sgv import/export/and reading cut settings from a barcode on the input material. They're one-off payments, and seem reasonable to me.
This is not so much a review, as sharing some of the research I've done. I haven't yet used either a cricut or a silhouette, and I haven't researched other brands either. But I wanted to talk about this research because to me, cricut's aggressively online nature is a red flag. Software that must connect to a server to run is software that runs only at the whim of the server owner (and only as long as it's profitable to keep the server up). And if that software is the only thing that will make your several hundred dollars worth of plastic and (cheap, according to a teardown I read) servos run, then you have no guarantee you'll be able to run it in the future.
Do you use a desktop cnc cutter? What has your experience been like with the hardware and software? Do you have any experience from home printers with good print quality and user-refillable ink cartridges?
* Cricut's app tried to connect to more than 14 different addresses, including facebook, youtube, google analytics, datadoghq.com, and launchdarkly.com. Launch Darkly are a service provider that help software companies do a whole bunch of things I'm coming to despise, for example, they offer infrastructure for serving different features to different demographics and comparing results to control groups. You know how at various times you've gotten wildly different numbers of ads than your friends on instagram? They were using techniques like this to work out how many ads they could show without affecting their pickup/engagement rates. Scummy stuff.
⁺ Electron apps are web-pages pretending to be applications. They use heaps of ram, tend to have very poor performance, and encourage frustrating UI design that doesn't follow OS conventions. Discord's app is a notable example of an Electron app

Hey! At first, I want to say that really adore your essays. I found your blog shortly after I joined tumblr and it was a great beginning.
My question is not only about Loki. Few times you mentioned that queer subtext always existed in cinema. So I wanted to know more about it. Are there any common tricks which artists use? How can we know that it isn't just our imagination?
And if you could give some literature recommendations on this topic I'd be thrilled :)
Hi Anon!
This is a really important question. I’m so glad you asked it, so I’ve bumped you to the front of my inbox queue.
Superhell (Destiel). Superheaven (Aziracrow). Supertime (Lokius). It’s not an accident these types of tragic queer endings are a pattern in our TV media. Though of the three, Good Omens is the most likely to deliver a happy ending eventually, the resources I provide below contextualize why queer subtext and queer tragedy persists. I believe the paper on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a particularly important read as it sheds light on tragic queer tropes and utilization of queer subtext from the 1950s that persist to this day.
I do need to clarify a few things:
1.) I’m not a formal scholar. I don’t have a Master’s, let alone a PhD. I would love to continue my education, but I only just finished paying off my student loans. This is to say, most of what I’ve learned is from self-guided reading, watching documentaries, and talking to literary and cinematic professionals and members of the LGBTQAI+ community.
2.) Subtext exists in all forms of art: literature, music, painting, sculptures, film, and so on. There is no 1-to-1 definition of what subtext could be because subtext, by its very definition, is the communicating of information and/or a feeling without communicating it directly. It’s also important to remember that we use subtext in everyday life without realizing it.
3.) It’s necessary to share foundational resources in order to provide a greater contextual understanding in response to your question. The resources I'll be sharing, which will go from broad foundational to specifically queer subtext in cinema, are as follows: A.) Using JSTOR, B.) Linguistics & Subtext, C.) Film History, D.) Queer Subtext in Literature, Theater, and Film.
USING JSTOR
JSTOR is an incredible academic journal article resource. You can sign-up as a user and have access to up to 100 articles per month online for free! If you don’t feel comfortable creating an account, you can also visit your local library, who more likely than not have a JSTOR membership.
When searching for articles, I recommend using these keywords: queer, homosexuality, subtext, literature, film, history.
LINGUISTICS & SUBTEXT
Pragmatics
-- Jerome Bruner’s “Pragmatics of Language and Language of Pragmatics” (Available on JSTOR; Published by The Johns Hopkins University Press)
-- Kristin Borjesson’s “The Semantics-Pragmatics Interface: The Role of Speak Intentions and Nature of Implicit Meaning Aspects” (Available on JSTOR; Published by Armand Colin)

-- Silvia Ammary’s “Poe’s ‘Theory of Omission” and Hemingway’s ‘Unity Effect’” (Available on JSTOR; Published in the Edgar Allan Poe Review)
-- Charles J. Nolan, Jr’s “‘Out of Season’: The Importance of Close Reading’” (Available on JSTOR; Published in the Rocky Mountain Review of Language and Literature)
-- Paul Smith’s “Hemingway’s Early Manuscripts: The Theory and Practice of Omission” (Available on JSTOR; Published by Journal of Modern Literature)
Implicature
-- Catherine Abell’s “Pictorial Implicature” (An important read as it provides academic context on interpretation of the visual medium, which is connected to interpretation of film; Available on JSTOR; Published by The American Society for Aesthetics)

Exformation
-- David Foster Wallace’s “Laughing with Kafka” (Yes, the same writer of the book, Infinite Jest! A quick 4-page read that explains exformation in literature using Kafka as an example; Available on JSTOR; Published in Log by Anyone Corporation)
-- Stephen J. Burn’s “Reading the Multiple Drafts Novel” (23 pages; can be a slog to read, but it addresses the issues of “canon”; Available on JSTOR; Published by The Johns Hopkins University Press)
FILM HISTORY
Generally, I recommend looking up Hollywood History pre-code (Hays Code aka the Motion Picture Production Code from 1930-1967). Notice that the code’s abandonment was gradual in the 60s, which was when the U.S.’s sexual revolution occured. The MPAA Film Rating System went into effect in 1968.
Sin if Soft Focus: Pre-Code Hollywood by Mark A. Vieira
Available in hard cover on Amazon (looks like there’s only 1 copy left); no digital version that I can find. You may be able to find this at your library.
Forbidden Hollywood: The Pre-Code Era (1930-1934): When Sin Rules the Movies by Mark A. Vieira
Available on Kindle. Similar to Vieira’s first book but considered inferior.
The Celluloid Closet: Homosexuality in the Movies by Vito Russo
Published in the 1980s, a groundbreaking work and the first of its kind. It’s dated but still considered critical reading.
Screening the Sexes: Homosexuality in the Movies by Parker Tyler
Available in hardcover and paperback. This is also considered critical reading to be paired with Celluloid Closet.
Images in the Dark: An Encyclopedia of Gay and Lesbian Film and Video by Raymond Murray
Available in paperback on Amazon (1 copy left); likely to be in the library as well.
QUEER SUBTEXT IN LITERATURE, THEATER, AND FILM
Queerbaiting and Fandom: Teasing Fans through Homoerotic Possibilities
The first book of its kind, published in 2019. A must-read as contributing articles include analysis on Supernatural, Sherlock, and Merlin, among many others. I highly recommend reading the entire book, but it is expensive. You may be able to find this at your library.
My recommended articles from this book:
-- Joseph Brenann’s “Introduction: A History of Queerbaiting” is critical to understanding the Loki series specific place in queer fandom and media history.
-- Monique Franklin’s “Queerbaiting, Queer Readings, and Heteronormative Viewing Practices”
-- Guillaume Sirois’s “Hollywood Queerbaiting and the (In)Visibility of Same-Sex Desire
-- Christoferr Bagger’s “Multiversal Queerbaiting: Alan Scott, Alternate Universes, and Gay Characters in Superhero Comics”
Fandom: Identities and Communities in a Mediated World
About half the price of Queerbaiting and Fandom but significantly more broad in scope.
My recommended articles from this book:
-- Cornel Sandvoss’s The Death of the Reader? Literary Theory and the Study of Texts in Popular Culture
-- Derek Johnson’s “Fantagonism: Factions, Institutions, Constitutive Hegemonies of Fandom”
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Reading of epic poem recommended)
-- David L. Boyd’s “Sodomy, Misogyny, and Displacement: Occluding Queer Desire in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" (available on JSTOR; from Arthuriana published by Scriptorium Press)
Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray (Reading the novel recommended)
-- Jeff Nunokawa’s “Homosexual Desire and the Effacement of the Self in ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’” (available on JSTOR; Published by The Johns Hopkins University)
-- Ed Cohen’s “Writing Gone Wilde: Homoerotic Desire in the Closet of Representation” (available on JSTOR; Published by Cambridge University Press)
-- Sandra Mayer’s “‘A Complex Multiform Creature’: Ambiguity and Limitation Foreshadowed in the Early Critical Reception of Oscar Wilde” (available on JSTOR; Published in AAA: Arbeiten aus Anglistik und Amerikanistik)
Tennessee Williams’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Reading the short story [“Three Players of a Summer Game” and stage play and watching the film adaptation highly recommended)
-- Dean Shackelford’s “The Truth That Must Be Told: Gay Subjectivity, Homophobia, and Social History in “‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’”. (A must-read, in my opinion. You see a lot of patterns that continue in our subtextual queer stories to this day, concerning since Williams’s play was written in the early 1950s. Available on JSTOR; published in The Tennessee Williams Annual Review)
I hope these resources are helpful and interesting to you! Happy reading!

name a bleach character you think would work in another anime and drop your reasons why
Tumblr media
I'll start, here me outー Orihime in JJBA. Specifically part 3, Stardust Crusaders.
First of all, with Stands like the Sex Pistols and Harvest, the Shun Shun Rikka could easily be transitioned into a Stand. Hell, if we take her OST into account she already has a name for it: Love Is Waiting (which Imma roll with because Vanilla Ice didn't have a Stand named after the major arcana nor an Egyptian god).
Second, I think that she would mesh surprisingly well with the Crusaders. In the practical sense, the Crusaders could have used a healer on the team for a lot of their close calls. I would even go as far to say that depending on the circumstances that Avdol could easily be the only Crusader casualty if Orihime was present for the fight against Vanilla Ice as healing Iggy would be light work for her. (Because considering what happened to Avdol was an ambush idk if he'd be able to luck out.) And if Koichi could last long enough for Josuke to pop up and heal him, Kakyoin's ass could wait for Orihime.
And personality-wise, she would definitely add to the comedy of the Crusaders' dynamic with gag scenes like her attempting to cook while they're traveling through the desert, the Shun Shun Rikka's individual personalities, deciding getting bit by Iggy is worth it because he's so adorable. Plus she'd add an empathetic touch to the cast when necessary. I could definitely see her connecting quite well with Polnareff since they both share the loss of a sibling and I feel like they'd have a brother-sister dynamic themselves by the end of the part.
And third, if you wanna go as far as shipping, honestly I think she'd be rather compatible with Kakyoin. I think he'd find her charming and easy to talk to about his fears and shame concerning his past run-in with DIO. Orihime would be the one most likely to try and listen to him when everyone else thought he was cracking under the pressure during the Death 13 episodes and realize that Kakyoin might have been acting off throughout the day but not in the way the others were assuming. They'd have their first date after getting back to Japan after DIO's defeat.
Bonus: her TYBW arc dress would fit rather well with the Jojo aesthetic.
(And as far as other parts of JJBA... I could see her in either/or of the many cast members of Stand users created by Keicho in part 4 whether that's as a lady who works at a local bakery or as a classmate of Josuke & co.
As much as I'd like to finesse Orihime into Part 5 though, I don't think it would work since I have a hard time seeing how she would fit in smoothly with the Bucci Gang.I can say with reluctant confidence though that I think she'd be a member of the gang that wouldn't make it though since in the second half of GW Diavolo specifically targeted members of the gang based on how much of a threat they were. Moody Blues' rewind ability and Aerosmith's tracking got Abbacchio and Narancia knocked off the team census and with Orihime's defense and healing abilities, she'd be a long term hindrance in keeping the team going. So I imagine Orihime would have a massive target on her back because of it.)
TLDR: I think Orihime would fit in pretty well with the cast of Stardust Crusaders in a practical sense, the team dynamic and if shipping is also something floats your boat she would have it covered as well.
(I also posted this on the Bleach subreddit but figured why not on tumblr too, I wanna hear everyone else's opinions.)

i'm back, local anti (technically not ig but i refuse to call myself a proshipper anymore after seeing some of the people lurking around over there) ranting in your askbox because you seem kinda chill actually. more controversial opinions incoming
(using general "you" btw this isn't directed at you specifically tumblr user proshippers-against-censorship)
free speech goes both ways. you have the right to make and post whatever you want on your own blog, but other people also have the right to talk about it on their own blogs if they have opinions about what you create.
specifically, i'm thinking about the whole "art lore" bullshit on tiktok. is it really shitty to draw over someone else's art to make fun of it? yes, incredibly. but you don't get to say it can't exist. you don't get to scream and cry about free speech and being anti-censorship if it only applies to people who are nice to you. if your art has the right to exist regardless of its purpose and the intention behind it, then so do other people's.
some people act like martyrs over being "anti-censorship," but then turn around and try to tell people what they can and can't say because it's about them. whether what someone else is saying about you is shitty doesn't matter. whether your art is "bad" doesn't matter in the scheme of it being posted and allowed to exist, so it can't apply to other people's thoughts and opinions about your art either. it doesn't matter one way or the other, your art has the right to exist, and so do other people's posts about said art. you don't have to like it, but you don't get to say it can't exist.
if you post whatever it is you want to post and people crawl up in your ask box like "why does it look like that" "get well soon" etc. and that bothers you, then you need to employ your own suggestions. curate your own online experience. close your ask box. turn off reblogs/comments. block people posting about you. if you can't handle that, then maybe you shouldn't be on the internet.
(i'm not talking about threats, doxxing, etc. btw, that's a completely different thing.)
Gonna sob rq over being called chill, I take that as a huge compliment. Especially when there's a good few antis who like to complain about how I'm quite the opposite in my messages...along with some colorful threats. Super fair to not want to take the label, btw. Folks are nasty. I've said it in the past, but I just don't bring up the controversy or label my other accounts. It's just way better for my mental health that way. I have like, 13 or 14 side blogs at this point? I can only imagine the number of threats I have gotten on here, times that. Yikes.
Here's to your opinion, though. It really shouldn't be controversial. Yeah, sometimes folks have real shitty opinions. But near every media has a way to delete comments from your own posts, and a block button. More folks need to use em. They're great.

but on the topic of language learning apps some i used include
Drops - made by the same people at kahoot, more of a vocabulary app than learning actual grammar but it has a lot of options, free version lets u do 5 minutes every 12 hours. If you want to learn more than one language what i did was download the individual language apps (u can either just download drops for all languages or drops (specific language) ie drops spanish for just spanish) and use different accounts. i also took advantage of the free trial cuz its fun but i do think the 5-10 minutes a day thing works fine to create a doable habit
Beelinguapp - This one requires a subscription i dont remember how much you can do without one but i have an android so i just downloaded a modded apk. edit: i forgot to elaborate when i posted this but its practicing reading / listening by reading stories and articles
Mango languages - this one is a lot different than duolingo but still good, its essentially based on learning by hearing / speaking a new language than just learning vocabulary and writing sentences. It requires premium BUT if you have a library card you can check if your local library lets you use it for free (this isnt guarenteed unfortunately but i think it is more common in bigger areas), there are also some free endangered languages
Memrise - Like the name implies this is mostly an app for memorizing words and sentences, using flashcards. Theres official courses but users can make them too so you can use it for more than just language learning if you want to. I think if you used this with mango languages it would be helpful to get practice writing phrases & words in a way you dont get to with ml. Apparently theres a pro subscription but i have no idea whats different & a lot of people say the free version works just fine
Ling - Havent used this for very long but its almost identical to duolingo but with more languages, its basically premium only but once again i use a modded apk
Some more specific stuff
Lifeprint - ASL w/ videos and its all free! a very good resource even if you arent looking to learn
Tagalog.com - Free resource for tagalog you just have to make an account
If you have resources for specific languages or anything in general id love to hear, this is all just from someone who has had a casual interest in language learning
Also if you have an android you can download modded apks of a lot of paid language apps. Just be safe (use adblock) and smart, not all apks are actually modded or theyre too buggy to be worth it, so pay attention to the reviews. The paid apps are often very nice but the prices are ridiculous. everyone deserves the chance to learn. I dont know if theres ios equilivants (although i wonder if theres a way to run apks on your pc through something like bluestacks)

cool epic guide on how to unlock Barry in DTM for free without needing other people to download the game!!!!
exactly what it says on the tin, a little step-by-step guide on how to unlock the goober himself without having to harass five friends (and then lose five friends) to download the game!!!
what you need:
two mobile devices that can run DTM (both can be real phones or one or both of them can be emulated; either will work as they function exactly the same). one of them will be your main device that you want to unlock Barry on, while the other will function as your "friend"'s device.
at least five separate gmail addresses that do not have any Google Play Games data related to DTM (protip: you can just keep making as many new gmail addresses on your main mobile device through the Google app as you need without it eventually asking for your phone number)
DTM on your main device
(oh and make sure you're logged onto your Google Play Games account on your main device before you do this. also: this guide only works with Android devices. i don't have an ios device to test this out with im sorry apple users)
step one: open your "friend" device and create a new Google Play Games account using one of the five gmail accounts you made before doing the process. make sure that you set it so that account can be searched via its associated email (meatball menu -> settings -> "Let others find your profile using your email address" under Profile and Privacy). on your main device, open the Google Play Games app, tap on your profile, search up the email address of the friend GPG account (located under your tag) and send that account a friend request.
step two: on your main device, tap on Barry in the character selection menu, tap the "OR GET IT FOR FREE" button on the purchase popup, tap the "INVITE NOW" button on the invite popup, then tap the "INVITE WITH EMAIL" button on that popup. it should directly open to gmail for you to send a referral link to your "friend" account (if it doesn't, the "MORE" button should let you open gmail there). send that email and hope it finds your "friend" well.
step three (very important): on your "friend" device, open up gmail and install the game directly using that link. it won't work if you install the game from google play without clicking that link. wait for it to install and make sure to sign in with your GPG account before doing anything in the app. if all is well and you're signed in, play through the prologue in its entirety.
step four: if this works correctly, you should be able to open DTM on your main device and see that you have received the King's Goon reward.
step five (also very important): on your "friend" device, exit out of DTM and go into the GPG app, go to your profile settings and delete all of your data associated with Dan The Man, then uninstall it. you can delete your data from GPG's settings. the reason this is necessary is to prevent any data fuckery with the game thinking you've already done the prologue even if you're signed in on another account, as that data is also stored locally on your device. delete the game and its data, and then log out of that GPG account as it will not be needed from now on. you can also delete that account too if you want to, but it's not super necessary.
step six: go all the way back to step one and create a new Google Play Games account, this time using another email that hasn't been used for this before. repeat this process until you receive Barry Steakfries on your main device. if you mess up, create a new gmail address and delete all your DTM data on the "friend account".
this process is kinda long and tedious, but it works really well and is pretty much the only way i can think of getting Barry for free without needing 5 other people and having to rely on a modded apk that doesn't even work when you install it anyway. this SHOULD be all the steps needed.

Imperial Agent (Vigilante Archetype)
Tumblr media
(art by Larian718 on DeviantArt)
We’ve covered plenty of vigilante archetypes here on the blog before, but as we’ve pointed out, despite the narrative origins, not every vigilante is a hero or even a good person. Sometimes people hide their identity to do very bad things.
One such example are the imperial agents of the former empire of Lung-Wa, who work behind the scenes, sometimes alone, sometimes in groups, to try and destabilize the various successor states in hopes of them unifying them into a true heir to the old empire. So basically Romance of the Three Kingdoms by way of spycraft.
Such sneaks and spies not only work under a cover identity, but also establish disguises that paint them as agents of foreign powers to try and insight war and distrust.
Given the politics of many of the major powers of the world and their clandestine acts in other nations, I think we can agree that even stripped of the context of the Pathfinder core setting, this archetype is not very heroic. At best, you could use it for an infiltrator trying to destroy a villainous nation, perhaps the alliance of multiple such antagonists, from within, but the vibes point to this usually being an NPC antagonist archetype, or at least a morally grey one.
Even still, we’ll look and see what it has to offer.
The primary skill of these instigators is their mastery of spreading rumors and slander about an individual or group, souring the locals against them. Of course, if they fail, they might face investigation or reprisal if they are found out.
Master manipulators, they also are good at intimidating or lying to others.
Finally, they learn how to create an extra identity in the form of a member of an organization, making it easy to fool a layperson that their activities are performed by a member of said organization, placing the blame on them. However, they have to be careful, as actual members of that organization are very likely to see through their disguise.
This archetype is rather unobtrusive, so you can still build them how you see fit. Their real strength is working in intrigue-heavy games where they can manipulate public opinion and place blame upon their enemies. That being said, unless it suits the game for the GM to roll for it, most of these abilities won’t get used when in the hands of an NPC, making it somewhat superfluous in its most common role.
Agents like this in the real world are loyal, very loyal to a cause. One might argue that they are selected based on their lack of introspection about the cost and impact of their efforts, but there is always room for someone to have a change of heart. Whether the character remains true to their beliefs of changes is up to the user, of course.
The river wardens proudly wear the symbol of the wakandagi, a powerful river spirit, on their armor to show their devotion to keeping the waterways clean and safe. It is utterly shocking, then, to hear rumors of groups of them suddenly demanding tolls and protection money from merchants and civilians that use the river and channels in their daily lives.
Crotchety and bitter, Kovas the bleachling gnome has taken his jaded and cold demeanor to a new low… by becoming a company plant in the builder’s union. By day he is a grumpy but hardworking worker, but by night he uses a copious amount of dye and makeup to appear as an unbleached member of his kin, sowing mischief while wearing the union’s insignia, and when that doesn’t work, he dons a full disguise for enacting more blatant forms of sabotage.
General Kir runs a tight ship, brooking no insubordination. When rumors reach his ears that some of his troops are abusing the citizens of the outlying providences, he immediately launches an investigation with the party at it’s head. It becomes increasingly clear that all troops were accounted for a the time, so it becomes a quest to find these bad actors before the dissatisfaction with the locals reaches a head.

Blog Post Week 7: Due 10/10
How does the use of humor in marketing minimize real social issues?
The use of humor in marketing can often downplay real social issues by masking them as harmless or playful. For instance, in Race After Technology, Ruha Benjamin discusses the BIC pen company's release of a "BIC for Her" pen line, which was marketed specifically for made for women. Pens not only pink, small, and bejeweled, but priced higher than the non-gendered ones (Benjamin, 2020 ). This marketing choice, seemingly lighthearted, sparked a backlash from the public. Another news source responded by saying, “Finally there’s a lady pen that makes it possible for gentler sex to write on pink, scented paper: Bic for Her. Remember to dot your i’s with hearts or smiley faces, girls!” The absurdity of a gender-specific pen highlighted how companies often lean into outdated, sexist stereotypes. Rather than addressing the real issue of gender inequality in the workplace or in society, BIC chose to reinforce the notion that even everyday items, like pens, need to be differentiated based on gender. BIC also chose to just change their product rather than to do something about it. This kind of marketing tactic shows that corporations may not take serious steps to challenge or reduce harmful stereotypes. Instead, they sometimes hide behind humor to avoid accountability. In doing so, they not only minimize social issues like sexism but also risk normalizing and perpetuating these biases, making them appear acceptable in the public eye.
How are women portrayed and targeted on social media platforms across different countries?
We had the privilege of hearing from guest speaker Dr. Miriam Hernández, who educated us on how social media can contribute to the fight against violence toward women, particularly in Mexico. This discussion reaffirmed for me that issues like gender-based violence are not only present in my world but are also a reality in countries like Mexico. Globally, 16-58% of women have experienced online harassment (UN Women, 2022). While platforms like Instagram and TikTok are commonly used in the U.S. to stay informed, in Mexico, Facebook and X are more widely relied upon. Women continue to be targeted and exploited, facing everything from sexual abuse to other forms of violence online. One thing that stood out to me is how Mexico’s reliance on these platforms shows a balance between using global tools and maintaining its regional identity. However, the algorithms and policies governing these platforms are often shaped by global priorities rather than local concerns. This can lead to the misrepresentation or under-representation of local voices, raising concerns about data privacy and external influence on public opinion in Mexico.
In what ways have marginalized groups used their voices through their user accounts?
Dr. Hernández spoke about how women’s communities in Mexico have harnessed social media to speak out against violence. She specifically discussed the case of Ingrid Escamilla, a woman whose tragic murder caused widespread outrage. After the media published graphic images of her body, users on social platforms created images of her through paintings as a way to honor her memory and protest the violation committed by both her abuser and the news outlets. These online tributes were part of a broader movement, where women not only protested in the streets but also used social media to raise awareness and form groups, ensuring their voices remain strong in the fight against violence. This highlights how digital platforms are becoming an essential space for activism, complementing traditional forms of protest.
What is a step in an effort to create meaningful change in social issues?
Addressing the issue and ensuring accountability is crucial. It's long overdue for white individuals to reflect on the question: "How does it feel to be a problem?" and consider, "What actions will we take to address it?" (Caliendo & McIlwain, 2011, p. 28). Instead of responding to hate by simply adding more fuel to the fire, we must focus on extinguishing it. Rather than reposting a racist video with comments like, "It's always these kinds of people," we need to pause and think about how we can genuinely contribute to change. Joining organizations with shared goals is a meaningful way to take action.
