Okay but I was just thinking, and I don't know how much Allen will feel like he just got back a bunch of memories and feelings he'd long lost after this flashback or if he'll only feel like he's just watched a movie about two people who are apparently him, but if he actually wakes up and feels what he just saw how's he even gonna feel remebering p!Lavi and all the time he spent with him and the final moments where he sacrificed himself for him, that's the man that was his only constant for a decade? over a decade? his best friend and family and soulmate? and now he's part of him?

he's had these memories locked inside of him for his whole second life and lived in blessed ignorance until now, and he drank that poison convinced he was gonna find out about neah and his ties and bonds with him, and instead now he wakes up with the knowledge that he had a whole other half that is now literally his other half how's he even gonna deal with that. How's that even gonna feel?? Boy I can't wait for April's chapter...

Hey Lavi, I never got around to reading Dante, but I studied Renaissance Florence and I saw someone in that long post mention that Dante seemed to have it in for Florence? Why is that, or was that a misreading? All I can recall of Florence’s flaws for the time were it’s reputation for gay guys and prostitutes (IIRC the German word for homosexual is derived from Florence :P)

ba… er, it’s not that he had it on florence, but like, people in that post (the not italian ones) have 100% Missed The Point, so I’ll go at it from the beginning. so, quote in question (I suppose):

now, never mind that ‘it’s played’ is dumb af because ITALIAN LANGUAGE WOULDN’T EXIST WITHOUT DANTE so it’s not played for shit, but like I’ll try to not touch all the other subjects regardless of how much my eyes are bleeding just reading this sentence.

the point is that he was permanently exiled from florence because of his political stances in which the church took part and that happened before the reinassance, which is like… long and complicate so I’m gonna make it very short and simplified sorry everyone but it’s not a thing you can dissect on tumblr properly. so, list:

florence at the end of the 13th century was a republic in the context of the rivalrly between guelfs and ghibellines, pls refer to that link for specific info but basically most of the politics in italy at that point where ‘there’s a bunch of separate small republics/states fighting each other and people tend to either stand with the pope [guelfs] or the emperor of the sacred roman empire [ghibellines]’, and in florence there had been a war in between the two factions that ended with the ghibellines being sent away from the city around 1289 if I’m not getting the year wrong, dante was a guelf and a nobleman and was directly involved in the city’s politics from then onwards until the aforementioned exile;

after then there was a further split in between the guelf faction ie one wanted the pope to be less involved and the other was more with sticking with him, and dante was in the first one;

now this is the point where I should tell you that the pope was boniface viii ie someone who has since then (and during that time) been wildly recognized as one of the worst people who ever had that job ever and whose papacy can be summed up in ‘trying to have both spiritual and temporal power in each single possible way in italy and outside it’ - pls read the entire article and get to the part where he had an entire feud with philip the ivth of france and ended with him getting slapped in the face in anagni -, and who dante saw as someone who had corrupted the catholic church and was fully not doing what his job entailed ie shepherding souls and not being an emperor;

tldr the white vs black guelfs feud ended up with the black guelfs winning and exiling the whites among which dante who therefore ended up exiled from his hometown for the entirety of his life later;

now the thing that those people don’t get is that to dante/people in his situation being involved in their hometown’s politics especially when being a public figure and so on was most of their life and they had an attachment to their city that was similar to what you’d have for your country since back in the day italy was barely a cultural unit and not a political one, like fighting for your city it wasn’t the same as fighting for your *hometown*, it was the same as your COUNTRY, which means that in his context being exiled from there meant leaving the country he was born in/that he loved/felt like he 100% belonged to and never come back, not just leaving one town and going to another. like, if someone told me I couldn’t ever go back to rome in my entire life but I could stay in naples I’d still be in the same country and as I’m italian first and everything else later I’d suffer but who cares, if someone said you have to leave italy and you can never come back I’d suffer a thousand times more because italy is my damned country and the place I was born in and in whose culture I partake/that I feel at home in, that was what it meant leaving florence to him;

now, his problem wasn’t with florence, his problem was with the people who threw him out and the system which allowed it and the catholic church which instead of worrying about religion worried about politics and mingling with them, which by the way is *exactly what the catholic church does here in italy to this day no more no less*, from then on nothing has changed, and he didn’t blame FLORENCE for the shitty state of the church as OP says, HE BLAMED THE CHURCH FOR THE SHITTY STATE OF FLORENCE AND THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, and guess what it’s been seven hundred years and counting and exactly nothing has changed, which means OP’s point even more dumb because dante saying that then and nothing having changed now should witness to the fact that he was only speaking sense;

like: dante had it in with corrupt popes who turned the church into a temporal power rather than stick with the spiritual because he thought that the temporal power didn’t belong to it, which is like… the principle of separation between state and church on which each single post-american revolution constitution has been founded on sure as hell he didn’t have it in for florence when he missed it for his entire life and wanted to go back more than anything and he couldn’t because he was exiled;

now, another thing that OP doesn’t get because lmao what is context: to catholics, the pope is technically infallible. like, if you’re a catholic You Cannot Criticize The Pope, period, so the fact that dante alighieri, A Catholic In The Middle Ages, puts not just one pope in HELL but more than one in a book/poem that he wants to sell as a revolutionary work (which he wanted to do or he wouldn’t have had vergil walking him through hell) is like… a level of disruptive revolutionary literary BDE that these people can’t even conceive, because it implied saying that the head of the church was wrong and calling him out of it. which, again, for a catholic, is basically the highest BDE level in existence. and guess what, Dante Was A Catholic But Not A Bigoted One As Much As These People ThinK;

also, never mind that the people he put in hell were also people he LIKED and most of the sympathetic characters are there, but tumblr doesn’t know that he put in purgatory manfred, the not legitimate son of frederick the second, who was excommunicated by the church, which I should hope anyone can guess the meaning of - like, excommunication is The Worst Thing The Church Can Do When It Comes To Catholics -, and he still put him in a position where he could be redeemed because he repented on his deathbed (according to dante’s rendition anyway), which means that he said someone the church had expelled for good from its ranks could still be redeemed and eventually go to heaven, which was basically telling them fuck you. same BDE.

now, that is the entire point of THAT SPECIFIC THING RE FLORENCE, but I’d like to state that the way I put it is the 0,5% of the entire problem which I can’t possibly summarize because in that book he comments on the status of things in the entire goddamned nation even if it wasn’t a nation politically at that point while mixing it with his philosophy treatise and his own search to have his faith and political ideals coexist while also discussing courtly poetry and changing his language based on the needs while using the same poetric meter that he invented/came up with and no one else could manage to use again after because it was too complicated, and while he does that he gives you a summary of the entirety of greek mythology figures that he incorporated in his work, a summary of the status of things in discussions of medieval theology and philosophy and on top of that there’s some expressions which are now staples of the italian language like we use them commonly and 80% of the time ppl don’t even know he came up with them.

and that still is a badly put summary of 20% of the basic things you find in the divine comedy as a whole because there’s more than that and there’s a reason why here in high school you study it for three years one cantica per year and it’s not even enough to barely scratch the surface. and that’s why those posts give me a damn aneurysm, because if you say that ^^^^^ above is fanfic sorry but I see red.

also sorry for going off like this but you went and pointed out the one thing that irked me most about that OP but I also didn’t want to reply directly because this discussion has given me metaphorical ulcers in the past plus gave me three days of feeling really fucking down (I don’t wanna use trigger but it was the closest thing I came to that in my entire life) and I’m done engaging with people who wouldn’t want to listen but eh. Mercy Killing

A/N: I'm sorry this took longer to churn out than I had planned. I wrote Fireworks in between chapters to kind of give myself a bit of a break. I'm a little stuck on this fic now, not entirely sure where to go with it. I think I'll start bringing in plot points from the show to help me along though they're not going to cannonically line up. Coss-posted on AO3!

Chapter Four: Discovery

Half a bottle of whiskey lay on her oak table, beer bottles littered around beside it. Lav was in Fangs’ lap again, turned sideways she that her feet were on the middle of the couch between both boys.

“So, question or a shot?” Fangs’ asked her with a devious smile. They were playing this stupid game where either you had to answer an (usually) intrusive question or take a shot of whiskey. It was to keep her mind off of what had just happened with Jughead.

Lav’s stomach turned at the thought of another shot. She had avoided his questions almost entirely. Now that it was her turn again she knew she’d have to answer if she didn’t want to puke again.

She let out a somewhat frustrated sigh, “question, I guess. Just go easy on me.”

Fangs grinned, his grip around her waist tightening slightly as he laughed triumphantly. Sweet Pea glanced at them before taking a swig of beer, his grip on it straining the glass of the bottle. In his other hand he was going through Snap Chat, looking at photos Toni had posted recently.

“Who was your greatest lay?” He asked, having wondered for a while. Lav was a tease but she didn’t really pursue sexual partners. That being known, he knew she wasn’t a virgin because she had told him before during one of these games.

Lavender rolled her eyes at him, thinking that he already knew the answer. If she lied then he’d just challenge her and make her take a shot. “You.”

Sweet Pea nearly choked, he had no idea Fangs and Lav had slept together. He was immediately offended that Fangs didn’t tell him about it. He shot his friend a narrow-eyed look. How could he keep this from him? Maybe he was embarrassed to have fucked a Northsider.

“Hate to break it to you, baby girl, but we’ve never had sex. I’d remember.” Fangs said, clearly amused by her thinking that they’d done it and that he was the best. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. As much as he liked Lav and loved the prospect, he wouldn’t overstep their friendship like that. Not unless she really wanted to.

Lav gave him a look that was ebbed with confusion, “it was last Fourth of July. At the Wyrm. We’d been playing pool and I got stupid drunk off of an Old Fashioned and tequila. You left bruises that lasted almost two weeks.”

Fangs shook his head, “I was outside all night with the fireworks. Tall Boy put me in charge of them. I barely had anything to drink that whole night.”

Sweet Pea’s tan face blanched. “Fuck!” He snarled out as he stood up abruptly while placing his phone into his back pocket. Then he stormed out of the trailer, slamming the door behind him so hard that the picture frames on the walls shook.

The teens looked at each other silently wondering what the hell had just happened. “Maybe someone snapped him a dick pic?” Lav asked, not really knowing if that would cause that kind of reaction but also figuring that it would.

Fangs laughed at the thought, “I like dick pics.”

Lav rolled her eyes, “because you like dicks, dummy. I don’t think Sweet Pea does…does he?” She was suddenly confused. She’d seen him with plenty of girls but never with any guys.

“Nah, he doesn’t swing that way. A shame, really.” Fangs joked.

Sweet Pea threw his half empty beer bottle onto the ground, the green glass shattering against the dirt. He had retreated into his trailer where he was flipping furniture and smashing lamps. Anything to get this aggression out. The heat of fury on his brain making his pursuit of destruction relentless.

It couldn’t have been her. The girl he slept with in the back of the Wyrm of the Fourth was blonde. She was taller. She never said her name but fuck it couldn’t have been her. In the back of his mind a voice was telling him that this was why her body looked so familiar, this is why he recognized her almost bare form that night on the side of the road before he even saw her face.

He punched the wall in a fit of rage, the drywall easily giving in under the force and leaving a massive hole. His eyes roved up to the American Flag that was pinned up above the now cushion-less couch. What would his father think if he knew he’d hooked up with some whore from the north side of the tracks?

Pea almost instantly regretting thinking that, knowing deep down that Lav wasn’t a whore. She hadn’t seemed to have hooked up with anyone since then. Not to mention she had said he was the best she’d ever had. Christ, she was the tightest he’d ever had, though the quickie wasn’t necessarily something to brag to his friends about.

He cursed at himself again, throwing another punch at the plaster to create an even bigger hole. For fuck’s sake, he had liked the girl he was with that night. The way she showed off her assets to him by bending over the pool table. The manner in which she threw her head back with each shot. The catty glances and tiny smirks on her red lips. How she effortlessly let him manhandle her around in the stock room. There was no possible way it could have been her.

Toni had come over later than night to help cook some dinner for all of them. Cheryl had accompanied her in the usual fashion. They arrived to see Fangs and Lav drunk out of their minds with a mess of empty bottles all across the living room.

“Should she really be drinking?” Toni asked incredulously. She didn’t like the idea of them being hammered if another pack of Ghoulies were to roll up and try and finish the job they had started. If they even knew where she lived, of course.

Fangs shrugged, taking a final swig of beer. “She’s fine.” He slurred, pulling Lavender against him.

Lav let out a light giggle at him. “Hey, Toni. I have a question. You remember the Fourth of July?”

“Of course I do, I was the only sober one inside.” Toni said with a roll of her eyes. There was a faint smile on her lips though. “Do you remember who I was with?” Lav asked, hoping that Toni would know the answer to the question as to who she had slept with that night. Both she and Fangs had been dying to know. It had to have been another Serpent, there was no other explanation. One of the other teenagers, definitely…hopefully.

Toni was silent for a moment, “You were both pretty hammered.” She said, thinking back to that night. “But you were with Sweet Pea. He took you to the back room and you two made some pretty impressive noises.”

Lav’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. Fangs nearly jumped from the couch, the only thing keeping him seated was the weight of her on top of him. “I fucked Sweet Pea and you never told me?!” She asked, her voice raising an octave in desperation. Not only had she slept with him but she had admitted in front of him that it was great.

The tan girl gave her a puzzled look. “I just thought it was so bad that you two never wanted to talk about it. That’s why you were always fighting.”

Cheryl was shocked as well, “you let that behemoth take advantage of Lavie?” She asked. As interesting as she found this turn of events, she felt sorry for Lav. For the look on her face was so distraught, like she’d been punched in the stomach with a strong fist.

“I didn’t know her yet.” Toni said after shrugging it off, “Plus she kissed him first.”

She had forgotten about that too. She remembered him guiding her to the dimly lit room and him asking her how she liked it. He forced her to say a few choice things that she didn’t want to admit out loud. “Did I?”

Toni laughed lightly, “Oh yea, grabbed him by the dog togs and planted one right on him.” An amused expression crossed her face as Lav looked horrified. It’s not like she wasn’t physically attracted to Sweet Pea but he seemed to absolutely loathe her.

“That’s why he stormed out…” Lav said, starting to panic, “he figured it out.” She squirmed out of Fangs’ grasp.

Cheryl looked over the scene before her, “So you’re saying that neither of you remembered a night of hot passion in the back of that hazy excuse of a bar?”

Lav was standing, pain etching its way through her bruised ribcage. She held it briefly before starting to pace back and forth. “Not until a few hours ago…” She mumbled, obviously embarrassed by the whole thing. “Sweet Pea yelled and left in a hurry after I-“ She cut herself off, not wanting to admit once again that she had actually really enjoyed sex with Sweets. It just wasn’t fucking fair.

Toni was giving her more inquisitive looks, “after you what?”

“She said sex with him was the best she’d ever had.” Fangs said gently, not really knowing what Lavender was feeling as she moved back and forth. They could see the unblemished skin on the side of her face turn bright red. She could feel the pull of the stitches on her thighs. Her cast laid heavy in her crossed arms.

Both girls tried not to laugh. Not at their stressed friend but at the situation. “Sweet Pea hates me. He’s going to hate me even more now that he realizes we had sex.” Lav said, stopping for a moment to rub her eyes. “This is so fucked.”

Fangs shook his head, “Sweets doesn’t hate you. I keep telling you that and you don’t believe me. He just has this thing about Northsiders, something his pops ingrained into him as a kid. You know what they’ve done to us. Raid our school before closing it down completely. Throw FP in jail. Hell they’ve thrown all of us in jail as some point except for maybe Jughead. They write horrible things about us in their papers, blaming us for all of their problems. He doesn’t understand that just because you lived over there, that doesn’t mean you’re one of them. You’re dad lived on the Southside your entire life. You visited him twice a month until your mom left.”

Lav sat down next to him leaning against him for even more support. He put his arm around her shoulders. “Didn’t you practically grow up with Jughead? SP used to say he was a Northsider too. Still does sometimes when his friends come around.” She let out a sigh. Sweet Pea had been so vehemently against her from the start and she had no idea why. She did the dance, she shouted the laws to a crowded bar. Hell sometimes she still got up and swung around on the pole when she was drunk enough. Why was she never good enough for him? And why did she have this sinking feeling I her stomach at the thought of him being so angry with her?

Pea had never hit a girl before. She had no reason to think he’d be violent towards her, but after recent events…Her head was fluttering with anxiety induced panic. Worst of all, she knew he’d be back. He had to come back. FP’s orders.

“What am I supposed to do?” She asked, really having no idea what the next step was. So she had sex with Sweet Pea and it was great, so what. She wasn’t the only girl he’d slept with. Maybe the only Northsider but not the only Serpent. This didn’t change anything. She knew that night she was just going to be another notch in his bedpost, and she didn’t care then so she shouldn’t care now.

Fangs got up. “I’ll go talk to him while Toni stays here and cooks.” There was a smile tugging on his lips. “Okay? Just give me some time and I’ll fix this.”

Lav looked up at him with hopeful eyes, “thanks, Fangs. You’re the best.”

“I thought Sweet Pea was the best?” He joked, earning a glare to his back as he left.

Sweet Pea was on his porch smoking a cigarette. It was the third one in a row. Why was he so damn bent about this piece of information? Maybe it was because he had tried so hard to convince himself that he didn’t like her. That he didn’t notice the languid way her hips swayed to music when it was playing at the Wyrm. Or the little laugh she would let out when Fangs said something particularly dumb. The look she’d give any guy flirting with her as if telling them they didn’t have a chance. It wasn’t the look she’d given him on Independence Day. It wasn’t hungry or full of want. It wasn’t reciprocated. It had never been reciprocated except that night when he approached her and demanded that she play a round of pool with him. If he was going to be honest, then he had been searching for that girl every night since. A second round sounded great. He wondered what else he could convince her to do for him since she gave in so easily to his commands, even obviously turned on by them.

Fangs walked up to him with an oddly serious look on his face. It wasn’t something Sweets usually saw outside of Serpent meetings. “So how was it?”

“How was what?” Sweets asked dumbly, pretending that he didn’t know what his best friend was talking about.

“Banging Lavi in the back room.” Fangs asked, a hint of smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. His comment earned him a heated glare from the smoking teenager.

He knew he’d been found out. Lav didn’t seem to remember much more than he did. “It wasn’t her, that girl was blonde.” Pea said after taking another drag.

Fangs rolled his eyes, “Lav was a blonde before she went purple. You don’t remember?”

Pea honestly didn’t. He paid as little attention to her as possible. Perhaps in the time between their rendezvous and him being formally introduced to her, she had dyed her hair. It was plausible. “She was taller.”

“She was probably wearing heels, dumbass.” Fangs said with a sigh, sitting down beside his friend on the stoop. “Look I know she looked hot that night, I remember her outfit because I helped her pick it out. Toni said she kissed you first so fuck, no one blames you for giving into that kind of temptation. I don’t get what the big deal is. She’s a Serpent by blood. It’s not like anyone outside our circle knows. Though Cheryl and Toni found it awfully amusing…”

Sweet Pea let out a growl, “if they fucking tell anyone-“

“I don’t think they will.” Fangs cut him off. “Out of respect for Lavender…You still didn’t answer my question.”

Pea shot him a warning look that told Fangs to back off or he’d get the same treatment the inside of his trailer did. “It was fine.” He muttered after snuffing out his cigarette. “She came too fast.”

Fangs stifled a laugh. “Isn’t that usually your problem?”

Sweet Pea punched him in the arm to shut him up. Fangs yelped in pain and rubbed the spot on his bicep with a pout on his lips. “I really liked her though.” Sweet Pea admitted, hanging his hand a little as if he had lost the battle to keep secrets from his friend.

“So? I get you have this thing with Northsiders but her father lived on the Southside for years. She spent a lot of time in this trailer park too.” Fangs let out a small sigh, “right now we have a job to do, so push all that shit aside and let’s go eat whatever Toni decided to make.”

Pea ran a hand through his hair, “fine.” He grumbled in defeat.

Kind of a weird curiosity. But I remembers years ago when there was talk over what it'd be like if Allen had been a girl instead (I even read a girl!Allen fic about her time with Cross. It was surprisngly good. Probably because it had no shipping =p). For some reason I just start thinking about that topic again and I wonder how Allen and Lavi's dynamic would be? For the most part I don't see most of Allen's dynamics changing at all (except more (more) fanboys. Lol). But then I remembered Lavi -

2 and I think it's been pointed out Lavi treats females a bit differently. He doesn't seem to prank or tease them as much as the males (not that he's the perfect gentleman either. Komui Talks makes me wonder how innocent he actually is XD). Nor give them nicknames. With this is mind I wonder if Lavi would still act the exact same (chaotic prankster. Touchy feely physically. Retaliating over rough housing) or if he'd tone some things down but do other things more (maybe try to be more like a -

3 big brother initially if he kinda of bases off from Lenalee and Komui, w/o the complex, to get closer to a female Allen?). Lol, Idk. This is kind of more of a Lavi meta question since it's been stated Allen's relationship is utterly crucial to Lavi's character. Again, I'd be curious if a dynamic w/girl Allen would be slightly different or the exact same (in a you're an exception. And people bop him more because 'stop picking on a sweet girl' while Allen cackles menacingly from behind).

Oh my this is... interesting to think about.

I think it’s fair to start with... the fact that Allen was originally a girl. Or more- when Hoshino pinched the idea to Shounen Jump she made a one shot with a main character called Robin. Here you can find it. And Robin... was an akuma. A girl in a boy’s body. Long story short, you can read the one shot if you hadn’t yet - but ye that was originally the character we were going with.It’s to argue that it would make a point for Robin planned as a transwoman in those instances.

According to the Gray Arc however, when the series became serialized, her editors were against the idea, because “No one would care if a girl would be crying”. That’s litterally word for word the reasoning. So Hoshino had to scrap it.

and she mentions quickly that it was one of the reasons she had no idea what to do with Allen to start with. He kinda started with him being a revamp of her character. (What I admire a lot with Hoshino is how much Her Vision can be affected by little things? Like how Lenalee became an entiere different person in her head the moment her editors forced her to have her with long hair.)

There’s also the elephant in the room that considering the timeperiod it was originally written. DGM was originally published with some big name shounen, Shounen Jump had some control over some choices, would react to fan backlashes (Lenalee being forced to have her hair long again is among those btw) ect... I mean like I think people may take for granted that for instance, the Alma arc was a complete anomaly when it came out in 2009/2010. That it had like. Major effects on fanbases. I’ve seen so much dudebros yell at this arc while i was thriving my friend. And tbh before the Alma arc DGM was often lurped in the “basic Shounen” category. A lot of people argued about the tropes it had to follow or not, and if this sort of things had any impact on the writting of the manga earlier? I can see how things wouldn’t go smoothly.(The Alma arc rooted out all the bad dudebros i’ve known of though. I don’t even care what people’s reaction nowadays are to it, to me back then, from the experience i got from fandom, it was revolutionary when it came out.)

I’ve stired away sorry, but Lenalee also works better, bc I know Hoshino fought for the Alma’s arc and that her editors didn’t agree with the direction she was taking. But if you read some of the interviews of the Grey Arc specifically, you see that Hoshino was constantly told how to rewrite Lenalee to fit a male audience sort of. Her editor pushed her to have long hair bc “that’s the kind of idol he found cute”, there was a complete backlash when Hoshino managed to cut her hair, the fans supported the editors, Hoshino talks all about it with such a bummer because “her Lenalee” had short hair. (also during that specific interview her editor calls her a moron. Later on she got called very annoying for sassing her editors after they called her dumb when she had a writter block writting the 14th song, and she sassed them asking for help going “since you’re far more intelligent than me-”. And the editor failled hard, Hoshino didn’t even use his writting, and the editor insulted her for being bossy. Needless to say I’ve since then been filled with anger with how the early days of DGM must have been hard on Hoshino).

I’m forced to make this preface because I truly think it would have affected Allen’s writting had he been a woman. 

If i’m optimistic i would like to think that nothing much would change because Allen’s writting kinda transend genders. But If i’m realistic i know it wouldn’t have happened.

As for Lavi specifically (wouh 7 paragraphs in and i’m finally touching the point of this post) the thing is that he also has a soft spot for women. (I mean i personally would argue he describes Dug as “cute” far too much in his novel to be 100% straight but he at least show his attraction to women more easily in the manga). 

And ye he does tend to treat the women differently but he also doesn’t... have a lot of women to be around to. I mean Lenalee whom he respects (and can be worried Komui will kill him if he tries anything), Miranda that he kinda met at the wrong time? He was always so overly serious around her because he was griefing and we didn’t see him with her at all since he got better. Aside then from his occasional crushes, that he does let himself feel, he didn’t really have an opportunity to spend more time with those women.

My point is just that the women he had met don’t help us set up a patern about how he treats them more casually: in term of pranks for exemple. Like in the day-by-day, we only have Lenalee and Miranda, and pranking Lenalee would be really putting a target on him to be murdered by Komui, while I would argue that Miranda’s anxiety (and the circumstances in which Lavi met her) would make him go softer on her. It doesn’t mean we know for sure he wouldn’t tease a woman in his peer surrounding in others circumstances.

I would love to think he would make an exception for Allen if only because of the timing: He was still handling Dug’s recent death and I think even if Allen was a woman the parallelisms would be there for him to be bitter. 

I want to think that because of that Lavi would still have teased Allen normally like he teases guys. But it’s not impossible that he would have treated Allen differently.

I think eventually like... If Lavi recognizes his soft spot for women (that it is with his strikes and whatever) he might actually be more ready to keep a guard up around them? Like I personally think he has a major soft spot for Lenalee but it took eventually Allen shaking everything up for him to acknowledge this soft spot. That he would have otherwise just protected himself against.

That, the reason our Allen was so effective was that Lavi really, really didn’t expect anything like that. and I think expectations would have been his doom, and I am inclined to think if allen had been a woman, he would have had some expecations.

Regardless: The major plot points that changed Lavi’s mind on Allen were emotionally driven and would still have had the same impact had Allen be a girl, i’m convinced of that. 

So it’s only on how he would treat that Allen more casually. And tbh... considering how vicious Allen can be, I feel like if Lavi treated her “more softly”, Allen’s reactions would probably have ended up with Lavi going “nevermind she’s a prick” and tease her just like he teases our Allen. I mean just taking the Vampire’s arc, with a whole joke about when Allen got bitten and that Lavi was lowkey scared because of that that Allen would turn into a vampire- in the term of, Allen being a danger to him. And Allen therefore sassing him because Lavi was being a moron. I don’t see how the gender would have changed anything, and if Lavi did treat Allen softly “as a girl”, I think this sort of things would have stopped him dead in his track as in “ye no she’s a PRINK where is my sharpy i’m gonna draw on her face.”

But that’s wishful thinking. I honestly don’t know and I think a lot of this post is more how i’m tryng to reason it. 

I’m sure more people would be more able to pinpoint exactly the characters and how it would work. I think i can’t ignore what went down backstage in term of the women’s writtings  so i cannot help but let it affect how I would see the manga as written by Hoshino be affected by it. But also perhaps if Hoshino had managed to keep her female main character, she could have gone more “fuck you” to her editors and manage to flesh her out to a point where half of what i’m worrying about wouldn’t even matter. 

If we divorce the story from the backstage stuff, perhaps there would be a complete different take to have - and it’s cool if people get to explore it. I am just... not the one placed for that.

I used to be good at transformative media, like headcanons and fics, and let those a little take over, but I got kinda insecure of my interpretations so i started to rely on canon a lot more. I already get insecure when I push my interpretations of canon too far. So something that really get me out of my comfort zone is not where you’d find the best answers about that, i’m sorry. 

But hey i hope this ask made sense? If not for the second half, at least for the half where I mention the backstages issues.

In the manga it almost looks like Lavi pulled Allen back by the way his hands are gripping Allen's shoulders. Also Kanda's just standing right there next to them unfazed. You get multiple Ark scenes where Lavi is shown reacting to Allen. Like when Road hugged Allen and kissed him. When Allen jumped into the Ark or any battle Lavi called out and was the first to jump in after. Post Ark we had that funny scene of Lavi getting annoyed w/the noise in the infirmary and wanting Allen to leave w/him-

2 (only to notice Allen's gone and getting horrified at seeing the mountain of evidence of food already eaten). He gets really irritated when Link tells him to stop following them and even other evidence Lavi might barge into their bedroom on occassion. Allen's crashing into Lavi's chest while his leg is in the air looks like a being pulled/suddenly grabbed motion while Lavi's leaning a bit backwards too from the sudden motion. I like analyzing panel scenes. =P

You’re right over Lavi being the one to pull Allen - the more i look at that panel the more i think it’s what going on! Tbh I didn’t notice this panel until a friend pointed it out to me saying “Lavi is there to catch back Allen” so that’s how i interpreted it, but yeah, the more you look at it, the more it looks like Lavi pulled Allen away from the door. Which is adorable bc like, Allen wouldn’t have done it on his own and Lavi just, stepped in and grabbed him?  Makes me think about what an overprotective Lavi would do post-torture, like, suddenly grabbing Allen out of danger and pulling him away. After a while, Allen would probably notice Lavi is doing that. 

AND YEAH I LOVE ALL THE SCENES YOU MENTION!! Also Lavi reacts to the Jasdebi threats on Allen and the whole Debt situation, i think i remember most of the focus being on Lavi patting Allen’s back. 

There’s also a scene of Lavi and Bookman coming with Allen and Link in the morning communal bathroom to brush their teeth and i’m pretty sure it ends with some teasing going on but i need to find back the scene to be sure. 

Just, Lavi is really always THERE huh. 

Also tbh I love the infirmary scene of Lavi trying to sneak Allen out of the infirmary. I mean i love all the scenes but I love this one too it’s just so sweet. He keeps trying to find some time with Allen until Bookman seriously tells him to keep distance sO. 

Also it makes me think about how, when Joyd starts to attack everything and everyone, Allen falls in the fight and it’s Lavi who comes up to rescue him and protect him and shield him with his hammer and IM WEAK i love this scene so much. (this just in case)

Anyway I also think that therefore Lavi also kinda set it as it being his... usual attitude? I mean, Lavi always was kinda “close” physically of Allen, it’s and all the changes had been subtle enough for Allen not to notice but to let it settle in his normal life. Like he can expect Lavi to drag him somewhere, where he wouldn’t have expected Kanda to do so. 

BUT BOY SOMEONE THREATENING ALLEN and Lavi losing his shit is 10/10. Allen had never really seen Lavi lose it to his emotions, it’s actually funny considering Allen had to fight Lavi when “completely emotionless” as Road’s puppet (which makes me think about how it can parallel how Kanda ended up stabbing Allen because his own emotions were all over the place - Too Much Emotions VS No Emotions fight)

So I think it would be even more of a whiplash for Allen bc i don’t think he even considered the idea of Lavi not being the happy-go-lucky kind in that way. It would completely take Allen aback to see Lavi completely lose it for him.

And I could see some conflict arise in front of Kanda even if i think Lavi would mostly be very cold toward him if he realizes Kanda could kill Allen (well, Nea, but for Lavi those are the same threat), and only lose it in case it becomes too insistant. Allen would have had to precise that he asked for it to start with which would only make Lavi more angry because he cannot settle for that, and that would shock Allen to see Lavi this involved in his well being.

as about if i have more headcanons... i don’t think i do per se? I mean more than “generally cold at any mention of Allen being in danger” and eventually him especially butting head with Kanda. I could see almost a reversal from the Kanda/Link scene where Kanda threatened Link (esp since Link and Lavi are already parallel enough) with this time Lavi being upset that Kanda would kill Nea with Allen if he come out. Kanda would justify that he wouldn’t kill Nea if Allen could come back but Lavi would be upset at the even mention and think that even at its most desperate you cannot rule out Allen’s determination to still fight against Nea and that could start a fight with Lavi being unreasonable for Allen’s safety. 

Also if Allen mentions Tyki or Road in a positive light I could see Lavi snap, especially about Tyki. Bc say, Road okay, he got it, she has a crush on Allen, but Tyki almost killed him a lot of time and Lavi never really got over it. I could see Allen bring up how Tyki and Road broke him out of the Order and Lavi being salty and petty even if he recognizes it was for the best. 

As for more loss of temper it would depend which enemy they meet but i would mostly see Lavi being cold, very cold. I could also see Allen completely being able to handle a fight but Lavi sometimes being too caucious and drag him out of a fight by say pulling him by the hood to put himself as a shield, which would annoy Allen on the long term because he could perfectly handle this and he cannot let Lavi in full front (if an Akuma attack for exemple, Allen can survive the poison,not Lavi so if Lavi could stop this right away that would be very nice). And Lavi could perhaps be a little sheepish about it at first, smiling a “oops” but would eventually be unable to hide that it’s bothering him that Allen is so often in danger, and there would be a loss of temper there?

I don’t know @.@ it really depends on situations i think, and i’m sure we’ll get some soon enough. if the Bookman Clan does end up being a problem like we Hc-ed on this blog I could see Lavi has an even harder time bc the Bookmen are his foundation and he cannot let them challenge his view of Allen, not after he needs to cling to him?

Idk there’s a lot that can be done there orz.
