This seems like it's intended as a "gotcha." Like the obvious answer would be "the Palestinians, who are literally named after it."
But if so, it's a very misinformed "gotcha."
All the different definitions of "indigenous" basically boil down to:
a people that arose in a particular place,
before -- not as a result of -- colonization,
and which haven't assimilated into an invading culture,
but instead have kept their distinct cultural identity, even if forced into diaspora.
For example, the Negev Bedouin are the indigenous people of the Negev Desert, in southern Israel.
They have a long archaeological record demonstrating that they've been there for millennia. They've kept their cultural identity through the present day.
If you look at the archaeological and historical records of either Israel or Palestine, you see that there's been a continuous Jewish presence right next to that desert for over 4,000 years.
There are literally kosher bone piles from some 3,800 years ago.
There are Hebrew place names that have been the same for thousands of years.
When Spain exiled the Jews in 1492, they fled back here.
There are fundamental Jewish books that were written in Safed, in northern Israel, when it became a center of Jewish mysticism in the 1500s (as a direct result of that exile).
Jews were the majority group in the region until about 1100, when the Crusades decimated the overall population.
In 692, the giant golden Dome of the Rock was built where the Second Temple, the center of Jewish life, used to be.
Why, then, was it ever called Palestine in the first place?
Because the Jews there revolted against Roman imperialism. Twice.
And the Romans responded by committing genocide:
killing nearly two million Jews,
enslaving nearly 200,000 more,
building the Colosseum with that labor and with the spoils of war,
erasing Jerusalem and the Jewish state,
and subsuming it all into a large new district called Syria Palestina -- named after the much-hated and long-gone Philistines.
Eventually, the Islamic Empire took the land from them. And ruled it through a series of caliphates, until the last one, the Ottoman Empire, fell in World War One.
And I know, you'll probably blow all of this off with "lmao I ain't reading all that."
But just to go one little tiny bit longer:
The way the supposedly pro-Palestinian movement CONTINUES to treat actual Palestinians who speak out about the far-right fascist movements harming them is HORRIFYING.
The fact that nobody in the movement seems to notice that this movement doesn't listen to, work with, platform, or even mention any activists in Gaza is REALLY horrifying.
This is something the progressive movement has drilled into me for like 25 years: If you want to avoid being paternalistic, and actually get anything DONE, you absolutely HAVE TO work as allies to the people who are actually affected.
Otherwise, you're speaking over and erasing them.
And accomplishing nothing.
The fact that your reaction to "there's an extremist movement that is NOT Islam, and it hurts Muslims more than anyone else," is to claim that's "genocidal racist dogwhistles," is fucking appalling.
TL;DR: all of you need to at LEAST read Hamza Howidy.
He's 24, maybe 25 by now. He lived in Gaza until he was 23. He co-organized a massive movement against Hamas when he was 19.
Hamas has thrown him in prison and tortured him for it. Twice. He has friends who died in its prisons.
We should be looking up to activists like this. Instead, the leaders of the Columbia encampment preemptively blocked him. Many "pro-Palestinian influencers" did too. Or just blocked him and other activists who reached out for support.
And the movement as a whole has ignored him. In favor of, generally, pretending Hamas is the Palestinian resistance, and worshipping it accordingly.

I understand that most of us don't know anything about Middle Eastern history and politics.
I learned almost zero about it at ANY point in school. I think I heard the phrase "the Arab Expansion" a couple times, and that was about it.
But if ANY of us give one tiny shit about anybody across the Middle East and North Africa -- including, especially the genocides in Congo and Sudan -- we have to grasp the fact that JUST LIKE CHRISTIANITY, ISLAM ALSO HAS A FAR-RIGHT FASCIST MOVEMENT.
It should be fucking EASY for anyone in the West to see that Christian Nationalism/Christofascism could have a twin called Islamism/Islamofascism.
SURELY we aren't paternalistic enough to think that everyone oppressed in Western countries is some kind of saintly, childlike innocent who would never think exactly the same way people here do, across the same wide range of ideas and motivations.
Surely it's not that fucking hard to see that there could be people in other parts of the world who execute mass shootings against groups they hate.
Or who seize power through a combination of violence and weaponized bigotry.
Or who hate queers and women and trans and intersex people and go to any lengths necessary to control our lives and bodies.
Like. Do you really think that the people who try to legislate us out of existence in a democracy wouldn't try to stamp us out if they were born anywhere else?
In the wake of 9/11 and in the quarter century since, Muslims in the West have suffered from utterly atrocious levels of Islamophobia. I won’t ever deny that or defend it. It is unconscionable and should be seen as abhorrent as any other kind of racism.
What that doesn’t mean is that we should overcorrect and view any criticism of extremist Islamism as racist. Islam is a religion, one followed by almost 2 billion people worldwide. Islamism is an extreme political ideology, one that uses Islam as an excuse for the appalling horrors they commit. They are not the same.
And the thing is, the people who are most victimised by Islamists, by far, *are* the millions of Muslims living in the countries where they wield the most power, some who very courageously speak out and resist and try to expose the horrific crimes committed against their populations, only to be met mostly with silence and indifference.
Conflating criticism of extremist ideology and terrorism with Islamophobia silences the voices of ordinary Muslims suffering under these regimes, and makes a mockery of their bravery.
#I'm barely hanging on to civility here ngl#the entire moment has absolutely horrified me as a lifelong leftist#it's far-right astroturfing and none of us have the knowledge required to notice#but the part that really sucks is that nobody is WILLING TO BELIEVE IT.#people will do ANYTHING not to experience the cognitive dissonance of having to change their entire view of the world#Even though we know that we don't learn anything about this part of the world!#people will do anything not to listen to ACTUAL PEOPLE IN PALESTINE so they can go on feeling comfortably snarkily right#it doesn't matter how hard it fucks the Palestinians#and then they'll use that to fuck the Jews#and to silence the Jews#seriously the entire left has now decided that Jews are a white oppressor group#WHILE we continue to be a favorite target of white supremacists#which means no help from the left!#which means the left frequently participates actually#like the Jewish professor in Pittsburgh whose children are finding antisemitic stuff left in their yard#because Pittsburgh antifa decided she's “a zionist” and that that's what they're fighting now#which they apparently decided because her college asked her to lead a taskforce on antisemitism#we're not allowed to have taskforces against antisemitism now#that's ZIONISM#what ever happened to “anti-Zionism isn't antisemitism?”#sorry okay I'm done ranting#I'm just so fucking frustrated and disgusted with the left#it turned on a dime from “listen to marginalized groups about their own experiences!” to “don't”#“call them Zionist liars instead whether they're Jewish or Palestinian”#makes total sense great job everyone#wall of words#depressing discourse

Note
you can call people who dislike you anti-semetic all you’d like, it doesn’t make it true. people could just dislike you because your personality is garbage? have you considered that? zionism is the ideology that perpetuates a genocide, you are furthering an agenda that bombs innocent children, at minimum. “never again” unless you’re the ones committing the atrocities, right? it’s cool now because it’s not happening to you? grow up
if the roles were reversed and palestinians had you in an open air prison you’d be the first to scream that it’s a genocide, but you’re not. how quickly you forget.
oh, also, jewish does NOT equal zionist. they are not synonyms. there are jews out there who have a heart and some basic human decency, btw.
Appreciate you took the time to write this detailed, yet ignorant, rant. Would that you'd spend as much time looking for a job...
Fact check:
Gaza isn't and wasn't an open air prison. Even Gazans admit that. Also, you're aware they have a border with Egypt, too, right? A border closed by a wall the Egyptians build to keep Gazans out. Egypt wouldn't take sick kids to its hospitals, grown men to work or random kids to the beach. The Jews did all those. Yet— "GaZA is aN oPEN aiR prISOn" and it's the Jews' fault. This double standard is a bit antisemitic if you ask me. And we WERE in open air prisons, thank you very much, they're called concentration camp. Don't know if you've ever heard of those. (Also our brothers and sisters are currently held in Gaza in closed-air tunnel captivity and your reluctance to mention them is very telling)
Zionism is an ideology calling for the Jews to have a land in their ancestral homeland. There is no genocide in Gaza and even the antisemitic UN admits that. Gaza's population actually grew during the war, so that's a very bad genocide if that indeed was our goal. The combatants to civilians ratio was 1:1, which is about the lowest in modern history (it was 1 combatant on each 10 civilians in Mosul, Afghanistan, just for comparison), keeping in mind that Gaza is a dense, urban area, and the IDF are either crazy precise or really bad at genociding. Yes, civilians die at war, collateral damage is always heartbreaking, but maybe less kids would die if Hamas stopped hiding behind them in mosques, hospitals, schools and children's bedroom. Whilst Israel does the best of its ability not to harm civilians, every "Palestinian resistance" movement made it their goal to hurt as many civilians and children. If I believe a genocidal ideology, what does it say about you? Remember the seventh of October? Would you condemn Hamas for it? Only a couple days ago we learned the Kfir, Ariel and Shiri Bibas, the two youngest hostages, aged 9 months old and 4 when they were kidnapped, and their mum, were murdered in captivity. Are you okay with kidnapping two babies and killing them in captivity?
90% of Jews support Zionism, and that number sky-rocketed since the seventh of October. When you call 90% of all Jews heartless and claim they have no human dignity, that's a little tidbit antisemitic. Would you be okay if I said 99% of Gazans support Hamas or other Jihadist groups, hence they're heartless and have no human dignity? Didn't think so. Maybe you should unlearn that double standard and antisemitism you defend so fiercely, and maybe speak with some actual Jews.
"Maybe people hate you because your personality is garbage" well first of all, it's not "people" but two bored antisemitics constantly sending asks (why u so obsessed with me), and second, how much do you know about my personality? The only things you know are that I'm a religious Israeli Jew who's a raging zionist. Hating me for that is a tad antisemitic. But sure.
"Grow up" babe I'm not the one constantly harassing people anonymously whilst they're trying to study for their college exams...
🥱🥱🥱🥱 2/10. Highly recommend getting a job.

Here is a list of organizations to donate to if you want to help victims of the war in Israel, but first, a little thing about not spreading misinformation
If you do not have a good understanding of Isreali/Palestinain history
If you think the Isreali/Palestinian conflict started in 1948
If you don't have a clear understanding of what zionism means
If you didn't know before reading this that there are multiple types of Zionism
If you think that zionism means support of the Isreali government
If you don't know much about Hamas
If you don't have any idea about what's been happening in Israel for the past few years
please don't make general political statements about what's happening rn. Don't claim you understand what's happening enough to explain it or make judgements on what anyone involved should do. This is how misinformation is spread. This is how propoganda that harms both Jews and Palestinians gets spread. This is how you give a platform to antisemites who use anti-zionism as a cover for their bigotry. This is how you accidentally spread messages that actually mean to kill all the Jews because you didn't have the context to understand that that's what it meant.
You can express sympathy or share posts with links to donate to organizations that are trying to help people affected and get people out of gaza, but please please please don't make a statement about it or try to explain it.
There is so much misinformation out there about this, there always has been, ever since antisemitism became a thing like 2000 years ago there has been propoganda about every single thing that Jews were involved in.
I know a lot of people are posting things about how "your silence is deafening" and all that but I'm gonna be honest I would rather you be silent than share information you don't have the understanding to fact-check or make a statement you don't have the background knowledge to make.
If you want to help, here are some organizations you can donate to and share around, but beyond that please try to avoid spreading misinformation. This really isn't something you can just look up and find credible information about, especially with how much propoganda has been used against both Jews and Arabs (I know not all Palestinians are Arabs but a lot of the anti-Arab propoganda gets applied to them because people are ignorant)
MDAIS are paramedics in Israel and they need equipment to help treat victims of the war
The Palestine Red Crescent Society are paramedics in Palestine and also need funding for equipment to help treat victims of the war
This is a GoFund me to raise funds to rebuild Kibbutz Nir Oz where many people were killed/ kidnapped/ or are still missing and many homes were destroyed
UNRWA is a UN relief organization for Palestinian refugees. Israel, Egypt, and Hamas are beginning to talk about organizing a ceasefire and safe passage for Gaza citizens and if that happens then the UNRWA will need the extra funding to help them. They also just generally need the funding.
https://israelrescue.org/donate/
Hatzalah of Israel is a volunteer emergency medical response organization and they also need funding for equipment. Just, if you see any emergency medical response organizations they NEED the supplies. Everyone is running out of medical supplies in Israel in Gaza
Here's another medical response organization. They focus on children in Gaza and aren't generally emergency medical response, but recently have been mobilizing emergency medical shelters.
This one is for Thai migrant workers who are more at risk of dying in the war because of language barriers and migrant status. Because this website is all in hebrew I will link a tumblr post with an english explanation of what they do here
Feel free to reblog with more organizations helping victims of the war

So the anti-Zionist Jews are discovering that the rhetoric they believe simply isn't true. Their so-called "friends" and "allies" are suspicious, resentful of, and aggressive towards any Jew they can find, even if that Jew professes the same beliefs.
Sound familiar?
It's not much different from what happened to Communist Jews in the Soviet Union, is it? They parrotted all the rhetoric, condemned Zionism, warned against non-existent Jewish plots against the Soviet Union, insisted that antisemitism wasn't a problem... And the Soviets still persecuted the Jews anyway.
For the avoidance of doubt, anti-Zionism is an ideology that denies the Jews-- and only the Jews-- the right to national self-determination. Meanwhile, the same anti-Zionists that ignore over three thousand years of Jewish indigeneity in Israel insist that the Palestinian Arabs be allowed not just a state, but a state that entirely erases any Jewish one. The key for the anti-Zionist is that there can't be any Jewish country, ever, no matter how tiny it is. No matter how many land concessions Israel makes to the Palestinians. No matter how many Israelis agree to a two-state solution. As far as the anti-Zionist is concerned, Jews not only cannot have a country: it is morally wrong for them to have a country. At the same time, giving the Palestinian Arabs a country is a moral imperative.
At this point, the anti-Zionist will protest and say that his opposition to Jewish statehood is based on the displacement and expulsion of Arabs between 1947 to 1949, and his belief that the original Balfour Declaration was an injustice against the Arabs.
Let's just take those statements at face value for the moment. This is the only time and the only case where anti-Zionists apply such a standard. Jordan was created via partition. Syria's formation experienced many of the same difficulties as that of Israel. The partition of India and Pakistan lead to far more war crimes than between the Jews and the Arabs in the 1940s.
Yet the anti-Zionist has never argued that the foundations of those nations, being based on violence, have rendered their right to nationhood obsolete. Never.
It's only the Jews who are held to a standard whereby if they have wronged any other group, they forfeit their right to national self-determination-- and it was never even right to suggest Jewish national self-determination in the first place.
Given all of this information, the anti-Zionist Jew will have to think carefully about why his movement only targets Jewish nationhood. His own personal opinion about Israel is irrelevant. The fact that he thinks Israel is a brutal state that oppresses the Palestinians does not answer the question of why anti-Zionism is based on the denial of nationhood to the Jews alone, ostensibly based on circumstances that have affected the founding of several other nations including Israel's nearest neighbours. The anti-Zionist has never argued that China is an illegitimate state owing to its brutality towards ethnic and religious minorities, nor that many Arab nations are likewise illegitimate, owing to the far greater death tolls incurred by their internecine strife.
Why only the Jews?
Until the anti-Zionist Jew addresses this issue, then he will continue to be astonished that all of his protestations of loyalty to the cause make no difference to his so-called "allies".
Antizionist jews complaining that their friends are treating them like they're zionist jews are so close to getting that in the antisemite's eyes, we're all just Jews. And it also screams of selfishness that the only time you recognize antisemitism as closely linked to (and imo inherently the same as) antizionism is when it personally affects you.

Note
The main things that turned me off of conversion for now were
1. I have alot of shit on my plate and am low income as a result so finding a place that will help might be hard because locally there really aren't any synagogues around
2. The synagogue I did find locally was uhhh...... Hhhhh. Their web page had a huge section about Israel in a positive light..
I love the religion, I love certain values it holds however I refuse to align with anyone who justifies colonialism and bloodshed against another group of people while ignoring past bloodshed done onto themselves. It makes 0 sense to me and is highly hypocritical.
Hypocrisy was one of the reasons I hated Christianity so much. Constantly causing bloodshed, huge present and past history of colonialism, huge present day history of wanting people like me who are gay or trans dead and in the ground.
the difference with Christianity is that there isn't even a present day persecution or justified worry of safety despite the fact that I've seen jack chick esque evangelical fuckers unironically act like they're holocaust survivors whenever a pride parade happens within 1 mile of them.
It makes me sad, I don't see the point in colonizing or maiming a group of people who should be your equals.
It's racist at best, dangerous and actively contributing to more death and violence at worst.
The thing is there isn't really a "point." It creates its own point. Real actionable Zionist sentiment was basically non-existent until the rise of European nationalism. It's literally the exact same brand of nationalism that gave birth to fascist Italy and other great failures of modernity. And when "Israel" was a proto-state basically its entire existence was contingent upon its continued usefulness to Britain as a tool of control over India through the Suez. Zionist claims to the land are super shaky at best and straight up revisionist at worst. Post-facto Israel has tried to give itself legitimacy through fearmongering, genocide, and forging alliances with other imperialist powers. It's doing what America did (and is doing) but it's happening in the age of mass media and we are all watching colonial revisionism happen in real time.
If you are letting the prevalence of Zionism keep you from Judaism, I would say you should keep thinking about it. If you treat Judaism as too thoroughly engulfed in Zionism, you do the work of Zionists for them--you legitimize their claim that Judaism is Zionism is Israel. You legitimize the idea that anti-Zionism is antisemitism which is incidentally exactly how my local rabbis have been fucking me over since June. You are of course totally within your rights not to convert to a religion that doesn't work for you, but I hope you rethink the implication that converting to Judaism is akin to aligning with Zionism.
And yeah, Zionist hypocrisy is a systematic issue within American Jewish institutions in a feedback loop with Jewish populations. Any institutional apparatus is going to have systematic issues that reflect the dominant discourse of the greater cultural framework--mainstream Jewish institutions are going to, both by the nature of maintaining relevancy in America and by the natures of fearmongering and cultural amnesia, have a vested interest in participating in capitalism, imperialism, racism... You are not going to find mainstream insitutions that don't perpetuate them. That's why they're dominant. You are no more aligning yourself with Zionism by going to a synagogue than you are aligning yourself with capitalism by shopping at Wal-Mart. Anything you meaningfully do in public is in some way going to be "problematic" on some level because public space is designed to keep itself alive by those values.
It's exhausting to make yourself never come close to anyone or anything bad at all--refusing to associate with anyone with a problematic ideology is a doomed enterprise. I've been there. A lot of Zionist sentiment is implanted in people's minds with lifelong propaganda and destructive mind control techniques, and it's important to recognize that. That doesn't mean Zionist adults don't have a responsibility to unlearn it, but I think it's possible to have compassion for people who do try to do their best with improving themselves. Most people you meet want to be good and don't want to be willfully ignorant. I try to think about how difficult it is to convince the average well-meaning white American of the merits of decolonization/land back. Most well-meaning Zionist Jews are going to feel the same way about Israel--actual systematic justice and decolonization are not in their lexicons. Decolonization is hidden behind thought-stopping techniques that they have been inundated with from day 1. But most people do have a basic sense of goodness and are willing to sacrifice something for it. Most people are willing to give ground for the sake of human decency. The only way I can survive talking to people I know are Zionists is by understanding that we both want the world to be a better place and if I dwell on the specifics of how I perceive them to be evil, the possibility of us having a working relationship and any hope at productive dialogue drops to zero.
You don't have to be patient with Zionists or Zionist institutions. You don't have to forgive them. You don't even have to be compassionate. But you do need to understand, intellectually, that imposed cognitive dissonance is a very powerful tool of mind control (and I'm not talking about woo-woo shit I'm extrapolating from cult research and personal experience) and that the pathos of Zionism isn't supposed to be logical. Fear trumps hypocrisy. Fatigue trumps informed consent. Charisma trumps logic. Any bigoted ideology is going to fall apart under logical scrutiny, and that's why the only battleground for maintaining bigotry is necessarily charismatic and emotional.
We haven't yet, of course, acknowledged that there are also tons of anti-Zionist Jews and that the concept isn't absurd or fringe, no matter what the dominant Zionist discourse says. It's important for us not to let Zionists be the stewards of Judaism--Zionists do not OWN Judaism. Just like the most Orthodox of Jews also don't OWN Judaism. Judaism is only what you make it to be, and if you leave it alone because you are too worried about Zionism, that is all Judaism is ever going to be for you. Of course, you still have to contend with Zionism, and if you actually are interested in being a Jew, you would have to find a way not to let it kill your Judaism. I've come close (ish) to giving up on Judaism a couple of times because of Israel and Zionism, but I'm glad I haven't. I've stuck it out long enough to give myself to tools I need to separate the two and see the situation with more clarity.

This response has little to do with op, I just think this thread is stupid and insidious. So, I'll be addressing the points and how he's either ignorant or purposely missing the issues. This response isn't advocating for people not to vote. It is saying that this reasoning is not only ineffective but callous.
Debate doesn't change people's mind, in my view. People will support the person making the arguments they already favor. I'm tossing my hat in because I can't tolerate what seems to be deceit. I'm not debating with anyone, if you respond so be it. If you insult me, congratulations on nothing.
Okay, half assed statement out the way. Let's be serious.
An open letter to the op of the tweets: No one thinks Biden is the ruler of Israel. Strawmanning is a horrible way to start any attempt at convincing people of your view and sets the tone for the rest of this thread. This entire first section is irrelevant.
The second and third can be answered together and with no citations: If that is the case, we can still stop sending money and weapons to Israel. There is no reason for the US to be aiding Israel in its affairs beyond a long history of propagating zionism. How is saying Israel will continue destroying Palestine an argument in favor of sending them weapons? We do not need to contribute.
Any point I make/made besides this is pointless to me overall because this is the line: We are supplying israel with weapons. Any "aid" or pathetic attempts at a "humanitarian" pause is irrelevant. Continuing to stab someone when you provide them medical care doesn't negate the repeated offense. Biden's "public" or private support is meaningless without action. Anyone can pay lip service.
Fuck Patrick. Truly, fuck him to the deepest pits of hell. "actually" genocide. We are not splitting hairs on genocide. Biden is actively helping Israel perpetuate a genocide right now. He is literally saying the 99% vs 100% hitler thing. Israel is already attacking the West Bank and neighboring countries. These things are happening under Biden NOW.
7th picture/tweet Deeply fuck you. To claim people are apathetic to the suffering of millions of people because they can't tolerate evil being done. It is because I am not apathetic that I am livid. Apathy would be advocating for a system currently doing the evil you supposedly fear from Trump. Apathy is aiming this statement at Palestinians in diaspora as if they are not watching their families be killed. Fuck you.
cont: are there people who think Biden can single-handedly end this? Sure. There are people who think Israel isn't committing genocide. Anything is possible. Biden is helping and that he doesn't have to do. He seems really torn up about it all, that's why he's calling protestors violent and antisemitic. /s
If you actually care about Palestinians you would be doing everything you can in the interim between now and the election to get Biden to stop. Someone spoke about how anti biden people have no concrete actions. Currently things like uncommitted voting in the primaries and the college protests are being used to show Biden and the Dems that we are pissed. We are trying to impress upon them the fact that they are alienating their base. I won't sit here and act like I have a community plan of action. I live in a deep red state with maga/qanon reps.
I will vote Biden in the election. I can tell you that if this was happening in Nigeria, where my family lives and people were denying it, I wouldn't vote for him. It is a basic empathetic exercise. I will not guilt or harass people into voting for a man killing their people. I can acknowledge that the distance I have enables me to hold my nose and bear it.
The only way things get better is if you try to fix it. Civil Rights required fighting against an entrenched system. Societal change has never come about by bearing with evil. When has that ever fucking worked? We won't all burn. Those that will probably be fine are making tweets like this. W.E. Du bois vs Booker T Washington.
Trump won't destroy the world or at least not alone. We aren't the only people that exist. The oppressor will never hand you the tools to free yourself. They must be seized.
Off thread, just responding to other arguments: The best time and opportunity that we have to push Biden is now. If Biden wins, we have no leverage. There is no election to hold over a second term president. There is no incentive for Biden to listen to our demands when his position is secure. If he's ignoring us now, what about then? What world does anyone seriously think he'll be impeached by the democrats also licking Israel's boot?
Here's my damn soapbox. Stop trying to guilt people. You aren't doing it to be selfless. It is entirely selfish. You fear, understandably, for your own discomfort and safety. Do not present this as some virtuous stance.
I fukken hate political soapboxing on main, but I've been seeing some shit in my sphere that warrants nipping in the bud. Since he already put it very well, I'll just let Patrick Tomlinson say it for me:

I've tried to write about how, for the past year, and I genuinely can't even articulate it in my own THOUGHTS.
I start with the experience of knowing about the weaponized rapes within the first week. Because I actively googled eyewitness testimonies. That shit was right there in interviews on PBS.
And then mentioning it to a friend who reads the news all day long, who yet had heard nothing about this and acted like it was questionable and never mentioned it again.
Within a month, I started keeping a file of quotes and links. Of evidence of the systemic sexual assault and mutilation. Because so many people not only refused to believe it, but actively went on the attack.
At the end of the second month, I opened TikTok and got slapped in the face with a podcast clip not only denying systemic rapes by Hamas, but insisting that they were dehumanizing racist lies.
By someone who, in the same speech, said she could believe there had been individual rapes, although she hadn't heard of even one --
Which meant. That she hadn't even bothered to google it herself. To see if maybe there was "one." Before she got dressed all nice and went on a pre-scheduled podcast to say all this stuff.
I got out my file. I picked out the worst examples, a wide and detailed variety of different rapes, from the most clearly reputable sources. I recorded a video in which, because it was during Hanukkah, I cast some light on the subject by lighting the menorah and reading one example after each candle.
Then I never, ever posted it. Because I was terrified of what it would be like, on top of the experience of
being a sexual abuse survivor,
knowing people had been brutally gang-raped, mutilated, and killed,
for being Jewish,
and then seeing people angrily deny it over and over,
while also angrily insisting that Israel doesn't represent Jews, while simultaneously insisting Israel is a Jewish ethnostate, while vehemently telling us we don't need Israel to exist in order to be safe, while saying that no one in Israel is innocent much less a civilian, while saying anti-Zionism isn't antisemitism, after appropriating the Jewish term "Zionism" and redefining it to mean pure evil, after claiming Jews are white supremacists rather than a favorite target of white supremacy, after telling us over and over that we play the victim card and the Holocaust card and we're the REAL Nazis and this is the REAL Holocaust with the ACTUAL concentration camps....
...terrified of what it would be like, on top of all that, to have people come scream all that nonsense at me personally for speaking out on behalf of survivors -- not survivors. The opposite, in fact, of survivors. -- as a survivor.
To bear the burden of their obvious, loudly-denied hatred, as a reaction to stating the obvious, loudly-denied RAPES HAPPENED.
I couldn't do it. I already, routinely stay up until 3 am researching and writing about this stuff: debunking disinformation; looking for updates; researching the history of it all; connecting the dots between different hate groups and different terrorist organizations; investigating how and when all the rhetoric and lies built up across the left.
The day that I realized how soon after Hamas's attack Nerdeen Kiswani had posted about it, I crashed for like a week. I was just in dissociative autistic burnout.
I thought she had posted about it the moment the attack officially started. That was literally terrifying. I got the daylight standard thing wrong, I think; she actually posted a whole two hours later. Samidoun is the only other group I know of that posted earlier, and they're part of one of the terrorist groups that attacked. (The PFLP.)
You see, this is how I react to trauma. I research, and I argue, and I articulate things a little better each time, until I really understand why and how I'm right and can feel confident against people's bullshit.
But like. The sheer fucking wall of hatred. Of just overwhelming Suspicion Of The Jews.
The betrayal of seeing everyone abandon progressive values. Of knowing that we're supposed to believe survivors, supposed to let marginalized groups tell us what harms them, until it's the Jews Zionists.
Of knowing that we're not supposed to mentally divide marginalized groups into Good Ones and Bad Ones, to approve and support only the ones who agree with us. Until it's the Jews; then you can just call anyone you don't agree with a Zionist, and ignore them in favor of the ones who agree that you're not antisemitic and that Israel should be burnt to the ground.
The burning feeling, inside, both cold and hot at once, that comes from a friend who's Very Concerned About Antisemitism saying that you two are just not going to agree about the definition of antisemitism as long as you believe the ADL. As long as you don't understand what a vile smear campaign all these claims of antisemitism are. How much they're exaggerated and made up to make pro-Palestinians look bad.
The nausea of seeing people smugly recite, "every Israeli accusation is a confession," while they accuse Israelis of every individual thing Hamas did. The nausea of realizing you can't even point out how DARVO their Holocaust inversion and genocide claims are, because they've already made even that claim about you.
Watching the disinformation consume everything around us. Realizing that nobody cares whether any of it is true or not. Because it expresses what they feel like is happening. And because, for some of them, it satisfies a need to have Jews you're allowed to hate.
For others, I suspect, it's creating that need at the same time as - temporarily - satisfying it.
The horrifying realization that people have been lied to about EVERYTHING. We're so far behind in telling our own stories, in speaking our truths, that there's already a nearly complete, concrete wall of lies where our truth should be.
The hopeless confusion of trying to understand how to tell people that everything they've been told is wrong. Occam's razor isn't going to cut it here.
I don't know how to explain this to people. I have written so many words here, but they're just the bare bones of what happened.
They don't touch the weird dry cocoon feeling of being muffled in strangers' lies, or how those lies explode into rage if you even challenge them.
They don't touch the sheer fucking mindfuck of watching people devoutly believe and repeat bold-faced lies over and over and over.
They REALLY don't touch the carnival-ride confusion of watching people who have no connection to either Israel or Palestine, who have no personal horse in this race whatsoever, reacting as if every Palestinian harmed or killed is ten innocent members of their own community. And that for every Palestinian that died in the past year, really at least three or four others died too.
But at the same time, actively silencing and erasing any mention of Hamas deliberately harming and executing Palestinians.
And angrily shutting down any mention of the hostages being actively abused by Hamas, or of those it killed in Israel, or those it kills in Gaza through endless rocket misfires, or its promise to repeat its attack "again and again" until Israel has been violently destroyed.
Hamas, PFLP, & Co. have figured out how to phrase things in a way that makes people want to self-immolate for them.
I don't know how they do it. I just know it's bad by itself, and it's going to mean much worse things if nobody can stop them.
It's like we're all being transformed into Jewish Cassandras, doomed to be ignored until... oh good, Agamemnon enslaved her for sex and then his wife killed her.
That sounds like a lot of Jewish history, tbqh. That's just Pogrom Tuesdays.
The whole "Jews are weaponizing their trauma" is so, so fucking gross. It's one of the worst types of antisemitism because it foundationally dehumanizes us. They view us as incapable of experiencing genuine pain of any kind.
People don't understand what it is to be Jewish. Kol Yisrael arevim ze bazeh. I feel a physical connection at the center of my being with every other Jew on Earth. I feel the connection to my Jewish ancestors, because my soul is Jewish. I was at Sinai. I received the Torah.
They cannot fathom that we experience the loss of even one of our own as the loss of a world. The same people killing us glorify themselves in death, they cheer for death and destruction. We say l'chaim! Whole worlds were obliterated, desecrated, stolen and hijacked from us.
By people who pretended to be friends for generations, over twenty years. The Jews living near the Gaza border were peace activists. They were practicing what they preached: coexistence with Arabs. These men knew their children, had been in their homes, knew their names.
On October 8th, everyone screamed at us that we were committing genocide. And on October 9th, they said, "Jews don't really grieve their own. They don't feel pain. Any pain you see is just a reptillian manipulative farce, Don't Trust The Jews. They're Not Like Us."
And we aren't. We aren't like you. We never will be. But we are human beings. We grieve. We suffer. We cry out. We beg and plead. We die. One day, G-d willing, we will dance again, too.

What's happening to Palestine at the hands of Israeli authorities and Netanyahu is NOT an excuse to be antisemitic any sense of the way. What's happening in the Middle East, in the US, in Europe, etc is NOT the fault of the Jewish people and never has been, and never will be.
The Jewish people deserve to be welcome and safe in ANY place in the world. The Jewish people, just like the Palestinians, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Mentally Ill, physically disabled, women and any minority in danger of hate, need to be protected.
The entire reason Isreal exists is because of antisemitism. Palestine is true and real, and deserves to be able to be upheld instead of mass genocided. However this doesn't erase history or the fact that it's a fucked situation all the way around. It's not actually that complicated.
Being anti-isreal isn't being anti-semetic, just as being pro-palestine isn't being pro-hamas. Believing in human rights is an inheritely leftist Ideology but you cannot claim to be leftist while not also acknowledging the pain that Jewish people are suffering right now. As if they're to blame for the horrors happening in Palestine right now.
Jews do infact deserve a place to live and be safe. Unfortunately that place doesn't EXIST anywhere but Isreal. This isn't to say Isreal is justified in its mass slaughter of the Palestinian people. In no way is it justifiable or celebrated. However it is to say, "Hey, what are we supposed to do?"
Jewish people have never been safe anywhere. Zionism at its base is the wish for that safe place. However the Isreali government has twisted it to mean something else- the removal of the innocent people that resided in Palestine before Isreal ever existed.
I'm not fighting semantics here (or the OP). My point is, that you can support Jewish people AND condemn the Israeli government for the genocide it's doing. You can be against mass murder and antisemitic BS. You can defend Jewish people without being a Zionist. You can love and learn from Jewish people while listening to and witnessing the atrocities happening in Palestine.
On this note, leftists- there is A LOT more than just the 1 issue happening right now. If all you can think about is the single genocide, and not the 6+ others happening right now, or the dozens+ that have happened in the past, what the fuck are you even doing? If you're not worried about the rights of disabled, lgbtq, women, black and Indigenous folks, Asian people, etc WORLD WIDE- hate to break it to you but you're not a leftist, just a cruddy liberal.
(Note: none of this is directed towards anyone in the thread above, and is instead directed at the people of Tumblr who can't seem to wrap their heads around more than two issues at once and see the world as this black-and-white, good-and-evil Ideology. I fully agree with the OP, all while being on the side of the Palestinians.)
