ok so today i had my first thai class after a really long christmas break and somehow andreas gabalier (an austrian folk singer) and his music came up. and i don't remember what exactly my teacher said but he made a comment along the lines of "andreas gabalier is considered a standard good looking dude here in austria, right?" (my teacher is from thailand, so he wasn't sure about austrian people's preferences)

and his question was met with complete silence, because the thing is... our class consists of 3 middle aged guys plus one more guy in his mid 30s. and then there's me. the only girl

and since no one answered the question about andreas gabalier's looks, our teacher then addressed me directly and following conversation ensued:

teacher: "[airenyah]?" me: (feeling slightly shy and embarrassed) ".....i don't know what andreas gabalier looks like 🙈" everyone: (breaks out in laughter) middle-aged classmate: (highly amused) "i suspect he's not your type..." (me: "oh 🙈") "you're not missing out on anything :D"

i really like my teacher but god, let me live. don't put me on the spot like that 😩😩😩

#i hate when people ask me my opinion on somebody's looks #esp if that somebody in question is an older dude (as in significantly older than me. doesn't have to be ''old'' in reality)#idk!!! the person looks normal to me!!! person-shaped!!! idk‚ what do you want from me!!! i'm too asexual for this conversation!!!#we're not super close in this class (it's online which doesn't help with that either) so no one actually knows shit about my sexuality #and idk if my teacher put me on the spot for heteronormative reasons bc i'm the only girl in class #or bc he trusts my opinion (technically i could be considered an expert in austrian culture‚ i have a BA for that now lol)#but somehow my classmate's comment felt really reassuring to me somehow #i have no idea what made him think that that singer wouldn't be my type (maybe the age difference??) but like #so true man. so true. you don't even know #what even IS my type #airenyah plappert #stories from my thai class #also yeah everyone was laughing but it wasn't mean-spirited like. they weren't laughing AT me #i think my comment was just funny to them bc they probably weren't expecting it and so maybe they were surprised #or maybe bc i'm also the youngest in the group so maybe in their heads they were going ''aw she's too young to know andreas gabalier''#(i mean i WAS very much aware of him‚ i just never cared about him and his music and so i didn't care to know about his appearance)#the guys were laughing very amusedly while i was just sitting there like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lmao (i too was amused when they laughed tho)#anyway i have since looked up andreas gabalier's face and he is literally just some dude to me #i do hate his hairstyle tho. it looks greasy with gel ewww #but yeah apart from that my opinion on his looks is that he looks like an ordinary human being idk #nothing good and nothing bad about it #(except yeah. the hair gel maybe. maybe that IS bad actually)

I will finally draw yuugi #ygo has been in my dna for like close to a decade at this point and yet. I have never attempted to draw anything for it #until now. my audacity has finally reached quota #wishshipping saved my ass this lunar new year and its not even an exaggeration. thank you kazuki takahashi for the boys. rest in peace #mutou yuugi I love u.... u r my son #not mentioned in this stack but dsod's decision to thin yuugi's choker is the funniest shittiest character design decision on earth #like as a detail its so nothing. when u zoom out it just looks like a shadow dropped wrong somewhere. I have come to terms with #the other fashion choice for him in that movie but the tiny ass choker I don't accept. that's stupid. big it #I rly like the vision of older yuugi being like. obnoxiously polite and cheerful #specifically in a way that's not like ceding space for everyone else. like it's clear at all time that he's Like That #and nobody will be able to stop him from being Like That #and also tbh I can never imagine him leaving domino for long (<- definitely not projecting my city slicker ass on him)#I think the game shop's been where he's safe to be himself for so long that he'd want to keep it running and extend #that shade to other kids in the city too. his loyal customers are so scared of disappointing him for no reason #.... typed huge wall of text abt jou leaving domino for tournaments etc frequently but always coming back to hang out with yuugi #I am actually ill abt them huh.... maybe ygo was the progenitor honestly maybe it started me on the two blokes who do fuckall ships #yuugi is so cute but I do know in my heart tho he does Not cook. that kid has never learned and will never manage #I know he doesnt even have water in his office whenever he works. scared of spilling #its a good thing hes got friends galore now people are blowing his phone up wasting their sms toll telling him to drink water #(slowly tipping into mania) I just think he's so neat. love that boy he's so cute

homestuck was so perfect for autistic teenagers bc it took characters being sorted into categories and having Attributes to its absolute extreme. forget four hogwarts houses, every character has their associated colour their zodiac sign their associated animal their dream planet their god tier class and aspect their typing quirk their pesterchum handle their weapon their planet of x and y, as well as each of them having a handful of other very quantifiable Personality Traits and Interests (e.g. this one is a clown this one is angry this one likes fashion this one is just rufio from hook for some reason) and THEN they all also have their respective ancestors and dancestors(?)(plucked that word from my memory) who have all of those things as WELL

and god not to mention the fucking quadrant system

as a 13-15 year old autistic kid i didnt even need homestuck to have a plot i just happily made a big big spreadsheet of character attributes in my brain

the most difficult thing about growing as a person socially, as in getting out of your shell and noticing that you are, is that there will still be times when it doesn’t feel like you’ve grown at all! times when you can’t really connect with anyone around you, times when you fail to enter into an existing conversation, times when you say the wrong thing (or nothing at all when in hindsight you probably should’ve). but that’s also kind of the best thing, because that’s the thing that helps you realize that sometimes, it’s not you or your lack of skills or any shortcoming. sometimes certain environments just aren’t for you and certain people aren’t your people, and that’s okay. that’s human. it’s okay to not feel the progress you have made all the time.

#and that goes for every type of growth #backstory of this post:#after I came back after a few months of doing my international internship I felt so much more confident #it was easier making friends and walking up to people #i took more chances #and generally just heard it a lot from those around me who kept telling me how much i’d changed #this was further supported by my first office job that went pretty well #but then came my grad internship. and while i love the work and have met some great people I noticed it was difficult again #there was one office lunch where no one spoke to me at all! it was my first week and I didn’t know what to say #if i should even say anything #we were all sitting at the same table #not one person even glanced my way #it made me doubt myself; i was doing so well before #was that even real? why can’t I just speak up? this is not the way to connect with people #especially in my first week!#but you know what #i was still doing well. i just had to factor in the fact that these were all middle aged people talking about reality shows i didn’t watch #and bikes i knew nothing about #as well as people who knew i was the new intern yet didn’t speak to me at all even though I’d introduced myself to them all individually #and even so #people I couldn’t really talk to about MY interests outside of work either #my point being:#it’s okay to not feel a connection with everyone you meet #it’s okay to fall back into old habits even though you’ve developed new ones #it will never unravel the process you’ve made and the connections you’ve built #you’re doing fine #after this internship I will surround myself with people who reaffirm that belief #growth in the self #self love #positivity

Even here in Nouveau Lotus Pier.#Ah...Lan Wangji never got a chance to see the Lotus Pier of Wei Wuxian's childhood and adolescence...did he?#It's not the same. He's not the same. Call them by the same name and people will know what you mean...#...but the first version - the one with the fond memories - is gone for good.#It's sort of interesting isn't it? How names can hold so much power and still be hollow?#We often get stuck over past versions of things. I’m still processing how it happened and wondering what it all means, but today a big pink hamfaced English guy tried to fight Dr Glass in a parking lot (!) and a completely unrelated, amazingly tall woman appeared (!!) and charged the other guy in defense of Dr Glass (!!!) shouting at him so effectively that he got in his car and drove off.

Dr Glass doesn’t look like anything in particular or even do that much, he is so ORDINARY. He just emits some kind of magnetic field that causes Events, and yet the magnetic field also creates feedback that insulates him from the Events. Doesn’t even have to do his own fight scenes!! just magnetically attracts a TALL BRAVE WOMAN to destroy the entire fighting premise. No one can prepare for this. I feel like I’m the only person who notices it

#dr glass lore reveals #the premise of the fight was that the other guy almost hit me with his car and objected to Dr Glass’s objection #there was a lot of nuanced British masculinity in play but basically there was a big differential #in types of guy that made it even more awkward #best possible solution was this unhinged one. lady appears out of nowhere #offended that anyone would even try to punch Dr Glass. shouts aggressor down and leaves.#unrelated to all parties unconnected to the venue unbothered by the narrative #dispute the premise. exit.#I admired her tremendously not least because my role in the nuanced British carpark rumble was going to have to be a very complex one #the partner of the classier person can do a WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE? GET IN THE CAR gambit if they carry themselves well #but before i even stepped up to the chessboard this woman broke the fourth wall entirely. thank you ma’am #🫡
