A Mock of Morality

or “You are my hero” (which was part of the prompt I think, or something close to that sdjhbgshjkdf)

Can’t really decide on a name for this short little thing dfkjhbgfdhbjg

Um parts of this are really vague but I would like to reiterate that it wasn’t supposed to be anymore than like something even shorter than this thing and was supposed to be for practice, however, I got carried away-

Well uhhhh here pffff AAAAAA

--- The battle was finally over.

What had felt like a centuries-long feud between the utmost good and the utmost evil had finally ended.

“How do you yield?” the villain stood over the hero’s limp and almost lifeless body laying flat on the ground, their face muddled in the dirt and ash, eyes closed. The villain, almost confused by the lack of response, nudges the hero with the tip of their long pointed boots. “Hello? I said, How. Do. You. Yield.” they said in a frustrated tone. Still no response.

The villain let out a long, drawn-out breath, pulling their face down in annoyance, “Come now, you’re better than that; don’t just leave me hanging here! This is history in the making!” the villain yelled in a mock of manic enthusiasm and hysterics, throwing his arms in the air, laughing crazily like no tomorrow.

As his laughter slowly pittered out, the villain looks down at the hero. He had still not moved a muscle; the villain’s eyes, once brimmed with mischief, were now filling with a touch of concern.

“I know you’re there...”

He crouches down, turns the hero over, and gently moves the hero’s head to face him with one of his hands, and they drop their sword in the other, checking the hero’s pulse.

‘Hmm, good... He seems to be alright.’ he lets out a relieved sigh. ‘Just unconscious, they’re probably going to suffer from a nasty concussion once they wake up,’ the villain thought as they rubbed off the blood that had stained the hero’s cheek.

The villain looks around the surrounding area, the now abandoned part of the city covered in a flurry of flame, ash and rubble. The scent of burnt wood and the sound of distant police cars honestly gave them a sense of serenity and calm.

It looks like no one is around; better be quick before that changes.

The villain carefully puts his arms under the hero’s own arms and legs, picking them up into a bridal carry—time to get a move on.

The villain wasn’t sure what he was doing at this point; it was quite a feat to be able to defeat the hero like this. Despite officially achieving what could only be called ‘every villain’s best dream’, they didn’t really want to finish the job.

A part of them had become acquainted and fallen in love with the routine of creating ridiculous plans in order to face off against this world’s most powerful. To watch the effort of his arch nemesis go through the effort to take him down to save whatever place that had inevitably just been caught in the crossfire to face each other off.

Even though the villain had lost, a part of him was filled with joy; a part of him felt like he was the one that truly won. But now, now is a different story.

Now by the actual definition, he had won. But it didn’t feel right.

“You’re lucky that it’s just me and no one else. Had it been some other conniving maniacal villain, you may not have secretly made it out alive… hmm...” He quietly breathed out.

The hero quietly stirred in his arms. “Shhh shhh shhh, don’t worry, I’m getting there, hush now”, the villain cooed at him. A fancy limo with the villain’s signature dark red and purple hues pulled up before them.

“Sir! Congratulations on your big success!” They take a small party popper out of the front pocket of their suit and pop it, getting confetti all over the front passenger seat. ”I never doubted you for a second, boss! I knew that this was gonna be the one!” the villain’s enthusiastic henchmen exclaimed and whistled in delight; however, their expression dropped into confusion when they realised what, and more importantly, who, the villain was carrying.

The villain quietly and cautiously attempts to open the door with the hero in his arms, shifting slowly into the back seat so as not to further harm or wake the passed-out heroine. Not yet saying a word. He lays the hero onto the seat, letting his head rest on their lap.

The curious henchman looks into the rear-view mirror as the villain dramatically moves his finger to his lips. “Shhhh~” He exaggerates whilst winking at the henchman. The loyal henchman turns back toward the road and shrugs as she shifts out of park and goes into drive.

The villain supposed that they were probably to be asked many questions once they arrived safely at their destination.

The hero had finally arisen from his slumber, or maybe more so, from his small coma; for he had nearly been out for a week.

He was unaware of where he was or what he was doing here, but it was not because he hadn’t been here before.

The villain strolls in, full of enthusiasm, dressed head to toe in his best outfit. However, every outfit they had was really his best outfit. Despite the gusto, he had held quite a sombre expression.

He put his head in his hands, letting out the loudest sigh known to man; once he did so, he removed his hands, and he had wholly wiped any trace of sadness and concern on his face off like it was never there.

The villain slowly turns to the bed and jumps in shock. “Ah! You’re finally awake! I thought you were about to cross the border into the heavens. I’m glad you’re alright, sweetness~” he stifled a giggle, giving the hero a weirdly soft look. The hero looked around the room, confused.

“Oh, you might be wondering what you’re doing here in my guest chamber, I suppose.” The villain hummed. “Well, you see, I thought I would take matters into my hands and decided to take care of you instead of some petty old hospital.” He crossed his arms, distaste for hospitals marking his words. “They probably would have given you special treatment, but I think my treatment is a WHOLE lot more special~ Don’t you think?” He waited for the hero’s response.

“…Who… Who are you?” the hero said with a shake in his voice.

“I beg y- excuse me? Who am I? WHO AM I??? HOW DARE YO-” a tear drips down the hero’s cheek.

“I’m… I’m really sorry; it’s just- I’m having trouble even remembering who I am… Who- who am I? Are you my partner or something?” More tears streamed from his eyes; he felt so embarrassed and lost.

Was he joking? Did… Did the hero really lose all his memory after the battle?

What… What does a villain even do in this situation? What would anyone say in this situation?

The villain was at a loss for words. He adjusted his glasses as he walked over to what was supposed to be his arch-nemesis and sat next to him on the bed. “I-” the villain thought about his words carefully. What he says next could ultimately change everything if he so wished.

He could recruit them, but who would they fight? Would it be right to even lie to them like that? Why was he even questioning the morality of the situation? He was the villain, for crying out loud! He could be a non-stop evil machine! He could achieve even more than he already has. He could do anything he ever wanted!

But what did he even want?

“I guess you’re concussion has struck your memory… And here I thought you were completely alright or at least going to be… This is all my fault” All the sombre and sadness rushed right back.

“I’m sure it wasn’t your fault-” the once hero moved closer and softly rubbed the back of the villain’s back in small circles. The villain laughed at the comment.

“I see it hasn’t kicked your naivety. I liked that about you” they gave him a quick look before ultimately looking away. “You have no idea who I am or what I am capable of, not anymore, at least...” there was a long silence. A silence of contemplation. A silence of indecision. A silence of confusion and a flurry of mixed emotions.

“Perhaps we can get your memory back in due time, for now. Let’s get you some food. You’re probably starving! And very dehydrated!” the villain stands abruptly, making pace to the door. “Are you alright to get up?” The villain looks at him, and the hero thinks about it for a second.

“I think I’ll be alright, yes… But you didn’t answer my question. Who am I?” He replies, now sitting upright.

The villain stifles another laugh and beams a smile. “You are my hero.”

Gideon: Oh, we’ve been invited to do a Deep Dive Questionnaire!

Sasha: No. It’s absurd.

Gideon: We were tagged by Asher and Atlas, though. They’re so nice!

Sasha:  Buuh…Fine.

-What common/uncommon fear do they have?

Gideon: Are you scared of anything, Sasha? You have to be one of the most fearless people I know. Who walks into a vampire coven meeting like you did? You are something else.

Sasha: When I was little, my mom took me to a petting zoo and bought me feeding pellets to give to the geese; they all kept crowding me and chasing me around this pond and I thought I was going to die.

Gideon: What did you do?

Sasha: I threw all the pellets at them and jumped into the pond.

Gideon: That’s actually very scary for a young child! Did your mother have to jump in after you?

Sasha: Nooo. The pond was pretty shallow.

Gideon...How old were you?

Sasha: Like 10.

Gideon: PFFFF!

Sasha: Shut up.

Gideon: You’re so dramatic.

Sasha: What about you?

Gideon: I fear... not ever having you by my side.

Sasha: [Turning red and burying his face in Gideon’s chest]

Do they have any pet peeves?

Gideon: Hmm...Probably people who are rude, especially in public. It’s not that hard to hold the door for people or say excuse me, or turn your blinker on before making a turn.

Sasha: OMG, when people sit down at a table and keep talking to each other and when I come over to take their order, they’re like, “Oh, I didn’t get a chance to look at the menu yet.” I’m like- there are FOUR things on the menu. Just order or I will choose your food for you!

Gideon: You also dislike bad tippers.

Sasha: If I get another religious tract as a tip, someone is going to be meeting their lord sooner than they expected.

What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?

Sasha: We bought a bunch of stuff recently! We got a sofa bed and a fridge... What's one more thing?

Gideon: What about Mrs. Kachky?

Sasha: She goes where I go. She’s the only thing I have left of my mom’s.

Gideon: I'm feeling a little jealous. I think she gets more cuddles than I do...

Sasha: Awww! I’ll let you cuddle her too.

Gideon: [Inhaling deeply] I’m throwing you back into that pond.

What do they notice first in a person?

Gideon: Appearances can be deceiving. I’m more interested in seeing how people treat those they perceive as being beneath them. People often behave badly when they have any kind of power.

Sasha: I was raised in the Spice District! You think we make eye contact with people while walking around here? You keep walking- mind your business.

Gideon: Let’s combine the next two questions because I think they’re related.

On a scale of 1-10, how high is their pain tolerance?  And -do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?

Gideon: I was a soldier when I was mortal and as a vampire, I’ve endured my share of attempts on my unlife: I’ve been stabbed, beaten, and I’ve escaped more than one attempt to burn me into ashes. I assess a situation before fighting. I won’t necessarily run if the odds are stacked heavily against me, but I may try to explore an alternative. I’d say I have a high tolerance. A 9.

Sasha: Me too.

Gideon: [Squinting and shaking his head]

Sasha: Okay, but in my defense that comb snagged my hair really hard- I didn’t expect that. Let’s say a 7.

Gideon: Or a 4... It’s ironic, because you won’t run from a fight. Even if you know you’ll get beaten up. It’s very paradoxical.

Sasha: In Sparta, we die like men!

Gideon: [Rolls his eyes].

Do they come from a big family/are they a family person?

Gideon: My coven is my family, and it is a fairly large one. I think I’ve been somewhat absent and disconnected from them for a while now. I do miss that closeness we shared over the decades.

Sasha: Nope. It was my mom and my dad and me. After she died, I was pretty much on my own. My dad and I haven't spoken in years.

[Gideon reaches for his hand and clasps it tightly.]

Gideon: I'm always here for you, Sasha. You're not alone.

What animal represents them best?

Gideon: [Laughs]

Sasha: PASS!

What is a smell that they dislike?

Sasha: Depending on where you are walking in this city, every once in a while you’ll catch a whiff of weed that’s just skunky-ass bad. Or pee. Or trash water on the sidewalk.

Gideon: Garlic.

Have they broken any bones? if so, how?

Gideon: Oof...I’ve broken a few. I used to ride horses when I was a soldier and had my share of bad falls.

Sasha: I broke my arm falling off a jungle gym. I was in first or second grade. It wasn’t too bad. All my friends drew on my cast and then my arm was super stinky when the cast came off.

How would a stranger likely describe them?

Sasha: Gideon? Sophisticated. And...Suede.

Gideon: Suede?

Sasha: Yeah! You know, someone like super confident and elegant...

Gideon: Did you mean...suave?

Sasha: ...Wut?

Gideon: [Quickly] Sasha is completely and devastatingly adorable and endearing.

Are they a night owl or a morning bird?

Gideon: I don’t need much sleep, but I find myself keeping hours similar to Sasha’s now.

Sasha: I stay up late when I work at the diner.

What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?

Sasha: This man loves the flavor of his fancy-pants whiskey.

Gideon: You forgot my favorite one: you.

Sasha: Stop it...And you hated Twizzlers.

Gideon: Why someone would eat a rope of twisted wax is beyond me. You hate fine whiskey- I'll never forget “liquid leather”. But you love junk food, which baffles me. Have some Styrofoam instead- at least it doesn't pretend to be real food.

Sasha: Heh! I got you some Tootsie Rolls and Necco candy... Can't wait to see you try those...

Do they have any hobbies?

Gideon: I love the arts. I frequented the theatre, museums, and concert halls often. I'd love to take Sasha with me sometime.

Sasha: I like walking around the city. There is always something interesting or new to see. Oh, and piling stuff into the hall closet so the contents fall down on Dima when he opens it. He falls for it. Every. Time.

Boom, surprise birthday party! how do they react to surprises?

Sasha and Gideon look at each other: No.

Sasha: Let’s say what we hate about surprise parties at the count of three. Ready? 1...2...3!

Gideon: Surprises.

Sasha: People.

Do they like to wear jewelry? if so, what is their favorite piece?

Gideon: I don’t really wear anything except for my Rolex Daytona.

Sasha: F*ck. How am I supposed to follow that? A few pizza-shaped earrings from Claire’s? They were super cute, though. Oh, and a friendship bracelet Tito made me a couple years ago. It broke off but I still have it somewhere.

Do they have neat or messy handwriting?

Sasha: Have you seen his writing? It’s like he signed the Declaration of Independence. Mine is barely legible.  

What are two emotions they feel the most?

Gideon: I sense many of Sasha’s emotions, but I don’t want to put him on the spot.

Sasha: I do feel anxious and upset a lot.

Gideon: My emotions would be frustration and...Hmm...

Sasha: Horniness.

Do they have a favorite fabric?

Gideon: I like linen. It has an elegant simplicity that is timeless.

Gideon: Well, it was more likely to hear Simlish from Henford since it is closer to where I hail from.

totally love it unless it’s like a LOT. i can translate it easily and even if it’s not a perfect translation it’s fine bc i can usually get the gist of it, but when it’s like a ton of dialogue in a long convo i get annoyed

Some strange facts about some random anon like me!

I keep checking everyday those past few months when the update came when I still didn't find your tumbler account so I didn't have any knowledge of what was going on but I didn't stop doing that even though I found your Tumblr account everyday because apparently it became a habit.. checking and refreshing my browser page to see if getting updates was the best thing that happens to me with the chapters .. like chapter 8 I think got released on my birthday so I was very happy that I think I got it as a gift from you even though you didn't knew! So even if you didn't know that fact thank you ^-^!

I keep re-reading the parts where Golden cheese is angry because that was kinda a little attractive!.. You made it so well that I was surprised, just a question.. were you getting possessed when you were writing golden cheese or something because you did her so well lol!

I like her firm and dominating.. I just want to imagine it and I'm already getting sleepy due to the high overlord in my mind XD..

Like reader share some of that light- ahem!.. went overboard there..but what I said was true.. I got attach to golden cheese even with the lack of content when I found your fic :))...

I'm happy and kinda sad about the fic ending now.. like I mean I have been here since chapter 3-4.. even though I think that's not kinda long..I think?.. I basically got attached since that's too long that I will eventually get attached! Even if it's just writing! I waited for it.. I waited even if my time was wasted, I waited and it was worth it.. I was happy!.. AAAAAA, h-holy crap! Yeah, this did make me happy! Thank you so much! I was already feeling a lot better about myself today, so you didn't have to do anything to cheer me up, s-so don't worry about that.....I-I was just a bit stuck in my head yesterday....^^;

Y-yeah, it's a shame that she doesn't get a lotta X Reader fics....I checked that tag recently, and the whole thing was me, like ONE other fic, and some older compilation stuff from pre-her release (when most of her characterization was just people speculating cuz we knew so little about her). She deserves so much more! Sh-she's just SUCH a cool character....! B-but sadly, I did see it coming, cuz back during her update, i-it really did immediately seem like Burnt got all the simps....I-it felt like I was in my own corner.....Wh-which is why it's such a pleasant surprise to me that my fic's gotten as much love as it has!

I-I do have ideas for other fics about her, and....i-if I ever do get to those, it'll probably be just for the sake of giving my fellow simps more food, cuz.....th-there's so little of it.....>///////>

1. Are you named after anyone?

I think the intention was to name me after my dad's mum (who died when he was very little), but to spell it in a more modern way. Inadvertantly, it's also a portmanteau of my parents' first names.

2. When was the last time you cried?

I was very sick and very tired and very frustrated when the removal guys broke it to me midway through emptying the house that they absolutely couldn't take any of my garden plants over the Irish Sea because of fucking BREXIT. I was also very angry with my husband, who was meant to have checked this. In the end, we managed to palm the plants off on friends and family and we'll try to bring them over later, once we've looked at the paperwork involved.

3. Do you have kids?

No!! I have known for a very long time that I never wanted them and do not have even an iota of maternal interest let along instinct.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

It has its uses.

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

My weekend hobbies as a kid were horse-riding and karate, and I played field hockey at school, did long jump and 200m sprint. But then, y’know. Everyone else got taller and I didn’t really. I dabbled in rowing at uni, because it was kind of expected that you'd try it, but my late-night carousing rather interfered with the early mornings. Also, as mentioned, I am short. Since then I haven't really done anything regularly except about a year where I got into weights. I'd like to get back into picking up heavy things and putting them down again, but I resent the cost of gyms and I need to have a structured class where someone tells me what to do, I don't have the willpower or imagination for solo training.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people?

Hm, it's tough to describe (my mum would say 'their energy') but like...whether they're engaging with me, like really with me and curious about what we're talking about, or if there's that feeling that you're on the clock to prove you're interesting or whatever before they get bored.

7. What’s your eye colour?

Blue

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Weird things to compare?? But uh. Happy endings probably? Not in my scary movies though. I like scary movies with bittersweet endings. Though the more I think about this choice the more confused I get.

9. Any special talents?

I'm so bad at answering these things, my mind just goes blank and I'm like 'oh pffff I don't do anything special, there's always going to be someone who's better than I am'. Assigned Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. There are lots of things I like to do and I try to do them well. I guess I will say that you probably want me around in a stressful situation - I'm calm and I love coming up with solutions to things.

In a county hospital in a large and rural county of England.

Ok, well. Writing, obvs. Fic and poetry now and again. There's an original idea that's been rattling round my head for a few years that I keep saying *this* NaNoWriMo I'll do it! And then don't. Art used to be much higher up the list but I'm so rusty. I haven't painted in years (...has it been over a decade?). Gardening (I miss my garden so much SO MUCH rn). Baking and cooking. I go through phases of manic knitting interspersed with a little crochet, but I want to improve my sewing - I have my granny-in-law's sewing machine I need to learn how to use. If we get this amazing house we’re looking at I’m going to have to get good at DIY, too.

Two greyhounds and six (yes. six.) ferrets.

Not to be all 'I don't dream of labour' but I for sure don't dream of working for other people/companies. As you can see from the hobbies section, I like to DO stuff and be busy, but I like to work on my own terms and I like project work. So my freelance editing and proofing stuff suits me fairly well right now, though I dream more of a UBI that would let me do more with my time that wasn't just about earning, but could encompass more volunteering and community stuff. Being on furlough during lockdown suited me so well - I did so much and recovered so much energy that I was much more willing to engage with strangers as well as friends through video chat etc.

Mmh... the only scary movies I like so far are slashers, and yeah happy endings are great but pretty much all the story I end up loving aren't the ones with happy endings. Safer to go with nothing, I guess?

To be honest, my self-esteem is pretty messed up at the moment to consider I have any special talents... I'll pass this question, yeah

Pffff... The only sport I've ever done consistently had been swimming back when I was a kid (up until I was 9 yo). I lasted a couple of years, then returned when I was 17-18 and left again because the same teacher and a new group of girls were doing the same bullshit. And I haven't done any sports at all since.

I think there will always be a part of me that wants to know what it is to work at a library or even at a book store, but I think that will never happen. Uhhhh hmmm I mean I'd say everything else that's finished they're all about equally happy. I write most fics with the intention of reaching a happy ending that feels earned. From most contrast between the rest of the fic and the ending, I'd say An Impossible Situation

Nah, I'm not interested in crossovers.

Oh yeah. What else is there? XD I hope I write *good* smut. After Kuro, I think was really uptight about it and trying to be "clean," but I've loosened up on that a lot and I think it has greatly improved the quality of the smut I write.

I think I have a slight reputation for adding BDSM elements and of course there's my super hardcore kink of writing scenarios where everything is consensual and all parties involved care about and respect each other. It's pretty intense, pretty niche, not a lot of people are into it. LOL As for gender/sexuality >.> who really cares about that kind of thing nowadays?

I also primarily write UKUS, which many people find extremely offensive. 🤣 IT'S A JOKE!

9.) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I used to forget, but I try to do so consistently now because it shows my appreciation because I really like getting comments.

T_T so many, but mainly Technicolor Heart. I just really like the concept, but that fic would have been soooooooo angsty..... also I don't wanna get ... fuckin.... run off of tumblr.

Pacing. I know I just have a sense of how a story should progress so that everything feels earned but there's minimal to no dragging. I get told people like my characterizations a lot which is nice ^-^ also my prose is pretty nuanced, but I don't count that as a strength because I think most people don't even notice.

17.) What are your writing weaknesses?

>.> speed. or lack thereof. I can't write action scenes, which dramatically altered the direction of Thief of Spades in particular. I don't have a beta so there's always typos I'm catching months after posting P: I struggle with description/creating atmosphere using sensory info.

18.) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?

I agree with Riva that salutations or endearments are fine, but writing whole scenes that way comes across as pretentious and annoying. Not to mention it can just be really confusing. Write in the language of your audience, it's basically just that simple.

19.) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Pffff. As if I'd say it in public smh. I'll spare 11/12 y/o me the indignity

20.) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Uhhhh hmmm

I mean the Thief of Spades series is always going to have a very special place in my heart but writing something that long with that much plot over such a long time, there's a lot of things about it I wish I could change.

In terms of canonverse type stuff, I love The Shape of Modern Imperialism. For shameless self-indulgence I think Three-Part Harmony is best. But I actually worked really hard on Precious Thing and I'm still quite proud of it.

Yes. I am named after multiple women. My grandmother Rosa, her mother, Anna, and my middle name is another female relative as well. My mother combined it to make my name Rosanna and I’m glad because I love my name. I do not care for the women I was named after though. They weren’t very nice people.

I cry when I am angry and frustrated so probably at work last week. It’s a lot of crying there lol.

As you hand him the finished dough, he looks at you in question. "Small balls" - you said..... yes, the balls were rather larger balls, ah actually piles. You had to do it alone.
