Misconceptions in TSPUD

Stanley and The Player are separate people. Stanley does not control what he does, only briefly managing to seize control in certain instances (Bucket Escape Pod Ending, Bucket Destroyer Ending, Freedom Ending)

The Narrator isn’t the one in control, you are. The man can’t fix everything with a snap of his fingers, it’s up to you to stop the cycle.

The Narrator doesn’t know Stanley’s not in control. He only finds out in the Not Stanley Ending. As for the Broom Closet Ending? See next point.

Stanley is playing the game. When you click any key, you hear keyboard clicks. On the title screen on the original 2013 game and before the TSP 2 Expo, you see Stanley’s computer with the game’s menu displayed. That’s why there’s miscommunication - you are controlling a man playing a video game where he himself is the protagonist.

Settings Person doesn’t care about Stanley, he cares about you. They talk with you before even starting the game, when you’re not in control of Stanley, they never refer to you as such, and if he cared about Stanley - why did he leave him in the Skip Button Room? He literally says this in the Half-Life 2 mod version of the Games Ending - when he abandons you, he says he expects you to reset the game.

Theory time for when you have the time and energy!

Everyone is a little (understandably) delulu about Till being alive in the new art, but my artist brain did a very uncanny theory.

What if the reason Till uses the wrong hand and doesn't have the branding is... Because that isn't Till at all? What if it's Io?

There's also a weird upside down blue triangle between Till's hand and his cheek, basically would've been the reflection of the Till in the mirror. I don't know what's up with that and why it's there but it bothers me, like it's a fragment taken out of a puzzle and matches the background more than the colors used on Till himself.

okay so listen. sua is partially covered in the back, and her body is turned in a way so that her other hand is obscured. we know shes still using both hands though because we can see her elbow. so why is she partially obscured? because bababababababaa aaaaa android. or the theory that sua will come back "wrong"

Ok adding to this bc it popped back on my dash and people are being so aggressive and critical of anon.

They may not have worded it correctly, since the language is of the "never/always/everything" vein, but if I understood this correctly and I think I did, what they meant was that there just seems to be a lot of complaints and negativity in the fandom and not enough appreciating the good they've done so far.

It's not saying you cant complain bc meeting some of the wants of the fandom and working hard on it should immune them from criticism. Of course you can and you should. It's more of the manner in how the overall atmosphere of the fandom seems to do it and sometimes it's about who it's directed at.

(Some personal observations and what I found to be unfair complaints lately) HFTH was announced and people hated on it already even tho it wasnt out yet. RCD's Seth is getting a lot of love lately bc he's funny and I see some people complaining why is the boy next door/white guy getting all the love again.

I get the reasons why people complained about those and you get to. You can complain to PB that hey, it'd be cool to get a more diverse genre of books instead of more romance ones since you guys advertise yourselves to have a wide range of stories. Hey PB, it would be cool if we got more varied representation in terms of race and an equal number of genders for LIs. What is not okay is aggressively hating on a thing and/or those who do love it bc what you wanted didnt happen or doesnt get enough attention.

While yes, some will argue that even hate is allowed and people should just block/ignore. That's easy to say if it were a few people being hateful. But like the HFTH issue, I don't follow many people but it made its way to my dash to the point that it was like half of what I saw one week. Even in the main tags there was hate. When it came out people mocked it just bc of its genre. It was everywhere.

We're part of a community and wouldn't it be better anyway if people generally could voice their concerns, complaints, disappointment in a proper way without making people feel afraid to like a thing? Spewing negativity licenses others to do the same and it becomes this giant tornado of hate and how would it feel to have that directed at your LI to the point you cant just block/ignore it?

Saying "Hey PB I wish we can see more adventure books in the future bc you've kinda been focused on romance lately. It's alienating to some of us who became fans of your books not for just the romance" is different from saying "Fuck this another romance book you can bet everyone is gonna love this and theyre gonna make 20 sequels for it and I fucking hate it already. Why cant there be more books like ES and ILITW???"

They voice the same disappointment, but the latter makes people in the fandom feel afraid of being one of those who like it, it's unnecessarily aggressive, and targets fans not the creators, who they are actually mad at.

The point is, you CAN complain, but it's upsetting when there are times it feels like anywhere you look: your dash, specific tags, etc, that there is aggressive hate and complaints. PB does work hard and they have been improving certain areas. While they still could work on being better, it's unfair to complain in such a hateful way (poking fun at the book and art, cursing it/PB/those who like it)

If you've ever made anything for public consumption (a shitpost, art, fic etc) you would know the value of the kind word and how motivating it is, the value of constructive criticism and how helpful it is, and how different it is from senseless and mean comments which can be ego-shattering and make you never want to post a thinf again.

TL;DR I think what anon meant was it's upsetting to see trends where the fandom atmosphere is filled with aggressive complaining and not enough appreciation and respect to PB and other fans. You can and should CRITIQUE, but you don't have to be a jerk about it. It spoils the fun of the game and being in a fandom, encourages more hate, makes people afraid of voicing their opinions within the community.
