#wh characters as pokemon trainers

Pretty much agreed, though I'd probably argue Misty probably beat May out in that department (and if anything Misty's character development is severely UNDERRATED at times, even by her own fans. Though to be fair, her development WAS abruptly cut short thanks to Hidaka's meddling, so that was part of it). Let's not forget, Misty didn't exactly have it all that easy regarding her background: She was pretty much othered by her older siblings, may have even been neglected by her parents in favor of them if Japanese cultural ideals are to be taken into account regarding her motives for getting that doll set for Princess vs. Princess, and also had to project an outward shell of toughness (and possibly developed vanity issues going by the Japanese version) due to those insecurities. It wasn't until traveling with Ash, and ESPECIALLY getting Togepi and thus actually ALLOWING an opportunity for her softer side to come out that she even developed to actually be more open to showing her more softer side (she always had the softer side, it just had very few opportunities to truly come out before then. We got hints at a softer nature in Episodes 1 and 2.) while STILL retaining much of her fiery personality by the time she left. That she even developed to THAT extent DESPITE being screwed over by internal squabbling by the writers by having her character arc abruptly kicked down is nothing short of impressive.
Personally, I never really thought May got that much development all things considered, certainly not GOOD character development. I personally thought her whole rationale for even becoming a trainer was just badly written (up there with Serena, only arguably worse in that it arguably was disrespectful to the entire profession of being a trainer). I also wasn't really fond of her randomly going for contests from what I gathered. Less said about her "starring role" in Movie 9 the better (I'll be honest, they really should have used Misty for the starring role instead, since she actually FIT into the role far better). And I simply was NOT impressed with how she left the show. She definitely did better than Misty in the sense that she was at least allowed to continue her goal rather than have it be flat-out robbed her from, don't get me wrong, but her basically throwing a tantrum after the Kanto Grand Festival definitely didn't work at ALL in showing she changed from the beginning of her journey (especially when a key flaw of hers, made MORE pronounced in the Japanese version, was that she was insecure and uncertain about herself), much less claiming Ash was basically at fault for her losing (which made little sense since he was barely even INVOLVED in her contests in the first place. At least with DP, Ash and Dawn BOTH borrowed certain strategies from each other), and then just chased Drew into Johto despite settling their rivalry anyways. I mean, sure, she got two regions, which was more than what Dawn or Serena got regarding showing that they got development regarding skillsets, but overall? I'm sorry, but Lillie's development was May's done MUCH better, especially regarding the bit about initially having negativity about Pokemon.
And yeah, put that way, Iris definitely had EXCELLENT character development (and I didn't even mind Iris as a character even when I was on the forums that time. If anything, I was closer to LIKING her precisely BECAUSE she came the closest to being like Misty). The only real problem was less HER and more the writers being extremely clumsy regarding how to get Ash back to his roots (making Ash an idiot that rivaled even his Indigo League-self regarding stupidity was simply not cool at all. Sun and Moon did the intended concept a LOT better, even if it also narrowly dodged bullets at times like what would become of Ash's goal [initial marketing made it sound as though Ash quit his Pokemon Master goal in favor of "graduating like never before"). I also ESPECIALLY liked how Iris was allowed to pursue her goal when she left, made sure they avoided repeating the same mistake they made with Misty (thanks a lot, Hidaka, NOT!!).
You: Iris in the anime is annoying
Me, an intellectual: She has a really good story about anxiety in school and not fitting in thanks to her rural upbringing and getting a grandmother figure during it all

Update + some new stuff I thought up!
Howdy ny'all! I know it's been forever since I've posted anything, it's been a rough year for me, and the past few weeks haven't been any easier and I lost motivation to do anything I enjoy really. But! I'm trying to pick myself back up again with a weekend off and being home alone to just do what I want! I've been playing Pokémon Yellow again recently, and that led me into a convo I had with my very good friend @youkaiangel, what would the WH characters be like as Pokémon trainers? So this was the only thing I could actually write, so here is the Wizardess Heart x Pokémon crossover that literally all of 2 people asked for! I plan on doing every season, along with some side/support characters and my OCs! But to make it easier on the eyes, I'll do one season at a time, in chronological order, so here are the Season 1 boys as Pokémon trainers!
Elias
Whimsicott / Jellicent / Sylveon
Elias is about as studious as they come, knowing type advantages and weaknesses, what moves bring out the best in his PokĂ©mon, how they all complement one another in battle. The more I think about it, the more I see Elias with a support team. All three of his PokĂ©mon are great at setting up for each other, given all the moves they could possibly learn between them. Also, given the fact that his father is a gym leader, he and his brothers had access to many resources to get the best of everything they could possibly get their hands on. Eevee was Eliasâ first âmon, so itâs no wonder it evolved into Sylveon so quickly. It has slept by Eliasâ side from the day they met. Can you imagine an adorable little Eevee curled up next to a just as adorable little Elias? đ„ș
Yukiya
Lycanroc (Dusk form) / Azumarill / Leavanny
What else can be said about this soft, nature-loving boy? Just look at the PokĂ©mon heâs raised! I donât picture Yukiya to like battling his PokĂ©mon (unless itâs for fun or absolutely necessary), I think of him supporting them if they want to do something like compete in PokĂ©mon contests or something like that. His starter âmon was Azurill, who evolves into Marill when its friendship level with its trainer is maxed out. Can you imagine the look on little Yukiyaâs face when he saw that tiny ball of fluff look up at him and squeak as it recognized him as its trainer? Are you crying as youâre picturing it too? No? Just me? Okay, moving on! đ
Luca
Umbreon / Raichu / Hydreigon
I tried to find the best PokĂ©mon for Luca that suits what I know about him, and these three were the best that came to mind. Kinda overdid it on the dark types, huh? Lol, Umbreon is that powerful and dependable type, Hydreigon is that other powerful dark/dragon type (gee, I wonder what made me think of a dragon đ€), and Raichu is there for added cuteness! As the Academyâs most knowledgeable man on campus on all the latest gossip, who else is gonna help him find the information? Only the worldâs most adorable electric mouse ever! Pikachu was Lucaâs first âmon, and can I just say does it love to tease the crap out of Eliasâ Sylveon đ€
Well, that's what I think of our season 1 boys as trainers. Yes, Walter is a gym leader, are you even surprised? This was actually a lot of fun to do, mixes two fandoms I have delved myself into for quite some time, and honestly just makes me really happy. I hope you all enjoyed and stay tuned for the next season of WH characters as PokĂ©mon trainers! Let me know what you think in the comments and/or feel free to reblog with your thoughts! đž

Hop x Gender Neutral Reader - Pokemon SWSH Oneshot!
The violet haired boy sat alone in his bedroom, tears streaming down his cheeks as he held Leonâs favourite Charizard cap in his hands.
âWill I ever be as good as you.â The Pokemon trainer chocked out, wiping his eyes with his sleeve.Â
It was always Hopâs dream to be the best Pokemon Trainer in Galar, defeating his older brother Leon in an epic Pokemon battle and overthrowing the thrown! But no matter how hard he tried, he couldnât win a single pokemon battle against his rival, neighbor, current champion, and friend Y-n, let alone the former Galar region champion. Â
He grasped the red and white Pokeball in his hands that contained his prized Pokemon Dubwool. He had been working his ass off training Dubwool until he reached level 40, but as soon as Y-n threw out their first pokemon in their last match, Hop realised he was done for.
...level 52
No matter what he tried, they were always lightyears ahead of him. It was almost like they were playing on entirely different leveling fields. But the thing is, they both started at the same place, in the same town, with the same level pokemon.
Hop was just weak.
Or so he thought...
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It didnât take long for you to realise Hop was acting strange. He would change up his team every second battle, and his usual cheery persona was replaced with a quiet, closed off one.
One day, after a particularly brutal loss on his part, you decided you have had enough and confronted him about his change in character.Â
That day was today....
You marched upstairs to Hopâs bedroom and opened the door without knocking. The sight before you broke your heart. Hop was sitting on the floor of his room with his face cupped in his palm, tears dripping off his hands.Â
The golden eyed boy jolted his head up and his facial expression twisted into one of horror. His best friend in the whole world and number one rival had just walked in on him crying on his bedroom floor, in such a vulnerable state. What could be more embarrassing than this!?
âIâm....Iâm so sorry Y-n. Itâs not as bad as it looks. Please donât worry about...â
Before he could finish you had him wrapped in your arms. Surprised by your sudden show of affection, Hop flinched and froze on the spot, unsure of what to do.
You began running your fingers through his violet hair on the back of his head and humming a sweet tune. â©âȘâ«âŹââźâŻÂ°
ââ«âŹ ....its okay to cry Hop. â©âȘâ
As those words left your lips, this taller boy lost all the composure he once had and let out a huge sob as he pushed his head into your shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably.Â
âIts okay, its okay, let it out.â You breathe, trying not to show him the slow tears running down your own face, as you cried in sympathy for your friend.Â
âI-I just...â Hop wraps his huge arms around you and traps you into his chest. âI.. just donât know if Iâll ever be able to beat you Y-n...â After finally saying those words out loud that have been lingering on his mind for months now, he begins sobbing again as he squeezes the fabric of your sweater even tighter in his fist.Â
âOh hop...â Your eyes narrow as you feel an overwhelming sense of guilt. Thereâs a very good reason you keep winning against him, and itâs certainly not skill...
You clasp Hopâs face in your hands and make him look at you. His glowing golden eyes sparkle in the light of the sunset seeping through his curtains.
Maybe this is insensitive, but youâve never seen him look more beautiful...
âHop...you really have no idea do you.â You gently smile at him, moving his hair out of his face and behind his ear.
âWh--what do you mean?â Hop turns his head to one side, genuinely puzzled by your statement.Â
âJust how strong you are.â You grin widely as your best friend as he widens his radiant eyes, tears still falling off his lashes. You extend your thumb out to under his eyes and wipe away his tears.Â
âStrength is certainly in your genes. That is no secret. Your family has an amazing talent for Pokemon battling donât ya know? And you are certainly no exception. If our meeting was under any other circumstance, you would most surely kick my ass in every battle we have.âÂ
âWhat...could you possibly mean by that, Y-n!?â Hop jolts up, inching closer to your face, clearly intrigued.Â
You shift your eyes to the floor, contemplating telling him the truth. Heâs your number one friend in this whole universe, and heâs tried so very hard in his training...he deserves to know.
You turn your eyes back to the teary eyed face of your best friend and your heart brakes. Could you really tell your crying best friend that youâve been lying to him this entire time...tell him that you arenât even a real character.Â
You decide against it.
You may not be able to tell Hop the truth about you, but you can grant him another wish...
âHop....â
You slowly inch closer to his lips, shifting your focus from his eyes to his lips and back to his eyes again until your lips make contact with his. You begin kissing him and unsurprisingly he kisses back.Â
Youâve known heâs had a thing for you for a while, and quite frankly youâve fallen for his cute ass as well as youâve traveled with him. There is no one else youâd rather share this moment with.Â
Your lips dance with his as he licks your bottom lip, asking for entrance. You gladly oblige and before long your âbest friendâ is exploring your mouth with his tongue. He lets out a deep growl, clearly satisfied with your âtasteâ.Â
He slowly crawls on top of you, pinning you to his bedroom floor, and continuing to dominate your tongue with his, getting rougher by the second. There was a certain animalistic intensity to the kiss....a certain hunger. It was almost like heâd been waiting for this moment his entire life.Â
When the two of you finally part lips, you are both left panting and sweating. He looks down at you as you look up at him from his bedroom floor and lovingly smiles.Â
âY-n...Iâm afraid Iâve fallen in love with you.âÂ
âI love you too, Hop.â
You smile bittersweetingly at him with dread and guilt building up in your heart.Â
You thought to yourself:
Oh dear Hop. Iâm so so sorry. Our love could never be. You are stronger than me, its true! Youâre stronger than me in every single way! You go out there every day and spend hours in the Galarian sun getting all dirty and sometimes even hurt training your Pokemon in the unforgiving terrain of the wild area and all its monsters. I, on the other hand, sit back and press a few buttons and win without any effort at all. Our worlds are completely different. You have to do it in the old fashioned way, whereas I live lightyears away in a place youâve never even heard of. My strength is supernatural to you but I am no alien. I am simply a piece of programming embedded into your life. Iâm so sorry Hop, but we could never be...
...for I am the player.
Light My Way, Part 3
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8 - Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11 the end
â ïž WARNING! â ïž
-It is a twisted story of Pokemon Sun and Moon, and a crossover of Pokemon SM and SWSH. -It features Hau and Kabu as the main characters. -Extremely angsty. -Everything is headcanon. -It isnât spoiler-free.
Kabu was an ambitious man when he first came to Galar.
As his father was a craftsman for katana, he naturally became close to Fire-type pokemon, and He was determined to reach the top with them. His parents were also supportive of him and gave any help necessary. True to his ardor to reach the top, he became Gym Leader of Motorstocke Gym. But his ambitious dream tumbled to pieces over time. Kabu thought with his youth, vigor, and passion, he can burn down all the enemies in his way, but with time, his loss count stacked.
Too much until he was weeded out of the Gym Leader position.
Kabu felt lost. The only dream that motivated him to come to another region away from the parents was to become strong. But now that he was thrown out, he was too embarrassed to see them again after all their support. He hid the fact that he was thrown out to his parents. To continue to lie to his parents that he is doing well, Kabu started working for any job that he can lay his hand on to stay in Galar, but a young man wore out quickly with his wings to reach his dream snapped.
He became severely depressed that he lost all the wills for pokemon battles. He was busy maintaining his life in a foreign region and handling people's backbiting, that he forgot the purpose of why he even has to go on living like he is doing. Despite his distressed economic situations, he got drunk day after day to escape from the sad reality, but nothing helped. He started to disbelieve in himself and his potentials.
That's when his father reached him. As usual, Kabu lied that he is doing well. But his father quietly told him.
"If you are having a hard time there, always remember that you have home to return to. And even if the whole world turns cold back on you, remember you have your mother and I believe in you."
those simple but honest words woke up Kabu by far. That little fact where he has somewhere to return to gave him so much relief and consolation. After he hung up, he wept alone in his room for a long time. He felt refreshed than ever. He immediately cut off his drinking habit and started training hard with his pokemons again. He shed his old habits and mind set of power and started working on his tactics too. His passion burnt further with the fantastic match against Leon. With his efforts, he became the Gym Leader once again, and he was praised as one of the top Gym Leaders of the Galar who turned over a new leaf.
After getting back on track, Kabu dreamed of visiting Hoenn again to see his parents as a proud son. But his Gym Leader work kept him occupied that he just couldn't find the right time. His fear of losing his position again restrained him from going back to Hoenn to relax. He stayed in Galar to train and keep himself on edge. Days turned to months, and months turned to years. He rarely visited Hoenn and kept postponing his visit to his parents.
...Until it was too late.
When many years of peaceful days passed, Kabu received a call saying his parents passed away. As they were devoted to each other, they left on the same day together. He left the Hoenn at last to bid a final farewell. Unbearable heartache from regret devoured Kabu as he faced two portraits. He tried to stay as a strong Gym Leader to be the proud son as well, but he ended up not doing the basic duty of the child: Sharing his life with parents. He felt as if his bones were shattering, but he didn't just lie there crying. The flame of love that his father and mother passed on kept him firm. And all those years of hardship he went through taught him weeping and sitting down doesn't help.
After the funeral for 7 weeks, Kabu thought carefully about what to do in the airplane back to Galar. All his life he's been working hard to pursue his dream of becoming a great pokemon trainer, but upon his parents' death, questions started to brim in his mind.
So what was I stacking all this power for?
What was I burning for?
Was it just to show off?
Was it just for an honor?
Was it to become a proud son? But considering that, I ended up not able to pay the love back.
Kabu felt so much guilt of only receiving love from his parents and not repaying them with the love they deserve. And with Gym Leader work and the turmoil during his youth kept him busy, he never started a family either. It felt as if when he looked back, he had nothing to turn to. As he kept thinking in the airplane back to Galar, one thought came up in his mind.
'That's right. The least I can do to make sure my parent's love doesn't go to waste is to pass it down. I can pass down the love to who needs it the most as a legacy.'
Kabu resolved that moment. But considering people around him, there wasn't an appropriate person for him to do that. Most Gym Leaders were young of course, but they were all so mature and had a loving family. He knew it would be a hard and rough way, but there was one more option: Fostering. He was determined to help the one who is in the most need, like when Kabu was going through a hard time.
A week after Kabu returned to Galar, a video call from his great friend came. It was the most welcoming call Kabu had since the friend didn't contact him for quite a long while.
"Nanu, glad to hear from you. How have you been?"
"So-so."
Nanu was Kahuna of Alola who Kabu befriended during Nanu's trip to Galar. Professor Kukui of the same region wanted to start a Pokemon League in their place, so he was traveling around different regions to get an idea of how to run one along with other Kahunas who will be the Elite Four. Nanu grumbled in annoyance but still followed Kukui as Kahuna. At least Nanu gained one thing in Galar: A good friend called Kabu. They were about the same age and had the same interest which was pokemon, so they came close through pokemon battles and a glass of beer. Even after Nanu went back to his region, they constantly got in touch to babble old man's chat. But since quite a while ago, there was no call from Nanu whatsoever, so Kabu got a little worried. Well, until now that is.
"I heard that your parents passed away. I deeply sympathize. Sorry to hear."
"Thank you for the worries, but I'm alright now. I had plenty of times to think it over, so I have calmed down. However, I was more worried about you, honestly. What happened over 8 months? Were you busy building the League?"
"Well..."
Nanu scratched the back of his head and wore an awkward expression. Kabu was puzzled, as it wasn't the kind of expression that Nanu would normally wear.
"The plan to build the League was... abolished. For good, I guess."
Kabu was caught so off guard that he was stunned for a few moments. He couldn't believe that such a passionate professor like Kukui would throw a towel at his ambitious plan so easily.
"I... Wh... Did something bad happen?"
"Yeah... Bad. Very... Bad."
Nanu inhaled looking frazzled.
"It's actually the reason why I couldn't call for that long. Something bad happened in Alola."
"...Is it alright for me to ask why?"
Nanu seemed as if he knew the question was coming, but he sighed deeply.
"Kahuna of Melemele Island passed away."
Kabu gasped. He was shocked, as Hala was the most energetic Kahunas of all.
"His grandson has gone missing and his daughter-in-law died in an accident... His heart just gave out. After losing his mentor, Kukui was devastated and discarded whatever he was doing. The League, his research... Everything."
The Fire-type Gym Leader was lost for words. He didn't know where to start consoling.
"I... I am sorry."
"Hey, you're the one to hear sorry at the moment, right? Don't sweat it. I wasn't damaged as much as Kukui... Or the grandson."
The last words just pricked up Kabu's ears.
"Did you find him?!"
"Yeah... But in the worst condition."
Nanu shook his head as he told Kabu an unbelievable story of how the grandson of Hala was discovered in cold sleep.
Kabu couldn't imagine how ravaged the little boy was when he found out he was left alone in the world. That's when his instinct screamed him to go see that boy.
"Nanu, if it isn't too much of trouble... Would it be alright if I meet the boy?"
"Umm... Not without a purpose. He isn't fond of strangers now, you know."
"I know. But I need to."
Kabu inhaled deeply.
"I would love to foster him."
Nanu kept shaking his head saying the boy would be tough to foster as he was abandoned by the foster family twice and he isn't in good health. But Kabu insisted and pleaded, saying he will take good care of him. Nanu signed and approved, as he knew Kabu was pretty stubborn when he made up his mind and he was someone trustworthy.
In an airplane to Alola, Kabu studied the psychology of an adopted child, how to care for them, and what to expect and do. The last thing he wanted to do was to hurt the poor boy yet again due to lack of preparation. Nanu took him to the hospital, and he had a fateful encounter.
The boy was sitting on the bed quietly. Kabu was surprised at his lovely olive green hair like Oddish leaves and two round eyes like Deerling. But it tore his heart to see such an enchanting boy wasting away in sorrow. When Nanu called the boy, he looked back, and Kabu's eyes met a pair of eyes that looked like the night sky.
As soon as Kabu saw the eyes that looked like 2 black pearls, Kabu made up his mind. He wouldn't temporarily foster him. He will raise him as his own. He said he would foster him because he had to be careful with these things, but his mind was already inclined onto adoption instead of fostering.
This is the boy.
Kabu thought.
This is the child to pass down the love I've got.
The Protagonist
Leonâs lil bro has a best friend. Sheâs...too good at Pokemon. Sheâs never lost a battle, and the normal rules of raising them doesnât seem to apply to her. Itâs a phenomenon Leon himself is all too familiar with, and he will NOT let her feel alone like he did.
--- Leon looked around restlessly. Oh boy. He really was pants with directions, even he could admit that, but he was certain she would be around here, Hop had said as much. He heard a sniffle come from behind a large pile of rocks.Â
Ah.Â
He peeked around it and saw a familiar beret-topped wave of brunette hair. He silently thanked the Pokeâ Gods that his lil bro knew how much his best friend loved to wear berets. The last few times he had seen her, she seemed just as chipper as Hop. But right now she was curled up against the stone, her knees drawn up to her chest and her face buried in her arms. Not at all chipper.Â
He knelt down in front of her, cape swishing. âGloria?â
The young girlâs head shot up, revealing a blotchy face and watering eyes. She sniffled again and hurriedly wiped her cheeks. Leon offered a comforting smile.Â
âHey kiddo. Whatâs got ya down? Did you lose a battle?â he asked.
Gloria looked away, and Leon wasnât sure if that was confirmation or not. His worries made him hope it was the case.
âDonât let it get you down, even the best Trainers have to lose a couple. The important thing is--â âI didnât,â a tiny voice interrupted the Champion.
âAh- oh?â âI won. Hope challenged me to a battle again, and I won. Again,â Gloria mumbled.
Leon cocked his head in visible confusion, but his insides were already starting to squirm with long-harbored suspicions. Even still, he played the unwitting one.
âHuh. Well, I wouldnât think thatâd be a reason for tears now,â he said.Â
Gloriaâs grip on her arms tightened and her brow furrowed. She looked like she was struggling to decide if she wanted to say something.
â...Can you keep a secret?â she finally asked.
âOf course I can,â Leon replied immediately. âI may be garbage with directions, but I can keep a secret.â Gloria took a breath.Â
âI think thereâs something wrong with me. I donât think Iâm normal. Or maybe my...maybe my Pokemon arenât normal? Every person I come across who challenges me to a battle, I beat them easily. My Pokemon are always several levels higher than anyone elseâs, and they...they level up faster, too. People are always telling me how hard it can be to raise a Pokemon, and how itâs even harder to balance raising a full team of 6. I had a full team of 6 by the first Gym, and I never had any trouble with it! And Hop...every time he fights me, I beat him so easily, even though I know he trains as hard as, if not harder than me. So why am I so far ahead of him? Why am I so far ahead of everybody?â
Her eyes start to water, threatening to spill over.Â
âHop, and two other Challengers, B-Bede and M-Marnie...they all decided to be my rivals so they could beat me someday. And they all have something to gain and lose in this tournament. Marnie wants to help her hometown. Bede was endorsed by Mr. Rose, apparently. He wants to prove Mr. Roseâs faith was well placed. And HopâŠâ she trailed off, like she didnât want to say the reason. Leon knew, but he didnât say anything. Heâd known for a while.
âBut they havenât beaten me yet, none of them have ever come close. And I...I d-donât-- think they ever will. I like my rivals, theyâre my friends, battling them is fun. But every time I win, I can see them grow a little more frustrated. Every time I win and they lose, they wonder what theyâre doing wrong. I donât want-- I donât--â
The tears started to flow now, as fast as the words from the young girlâs mouth.
âW-Wh-hat if they--wh-at i-f they h-h-hate me? What if they d-d-donât like m-me an-nymore because I-- because I alw-ways win? What if Hop starts to hate me? What if--â âHey hey hey kiddo, slow down. Take a deep breath câmon now, youâre gonna make yourself silly. Here.â Leon offered the edge of his cape, and Gloria dabbed at her swollen watery eyes, sniffling.Â
âAm I a-- a b-bad person for always wh-wh-winning?â Gloria whispered. Leon sighed.
âNo. Youâre not a bad person Gloria. But unfortunately, your unusual talent for Pokemon training and battling isnât normal.â He placed a hand on her shoulder. âYou mightâve figured this out already but I think youâre a Protagonist.â
Gloria stiffened. âHow did you- how do you know about--â Leon chuckled. âWhy do you think Iâm the Unbeatable Champion, kid? My battle style of not holding back is because Iâm literally incapable of it. Even if I try to hold back, I still win. And lemme tell ya, it has been a blessing and a curse.â
âSo...so you knew? About this, about me, being a...Protagonist?â Gloria asked. âWeeelllll...I had an inkling. When I saw all your Gym matches so far, and how easily you won...it reminded me of myself when I was doing the Gym Challenge. At first I thought I just had a talent, but when I started hearing about how other Trainers more skilled than me had lost matches while I hadnât, I started to wonder if I was more than just talented. And just like you, Raihan and Sonia, my own rivals, never beat me.â Leon seated himself next to Gloria, leaning against the rock. âI understand how difficult this must be for you, Gloria. When I was your age, I sometimes squabbled with my rivals because they grew frustrated they couldnât beat me, especially Sonia. I think Raihan was just as frustrated, but heâs never really shown it.â He caught Gloriaâs distraught look and quickly held up his hands. âW-Weâre all still really good friends though, donât worry! Itâs good to have rivals, but we all found other things to strive for other than beating each other in battles. Though her gran initially pushed her into it, I think Sonia really enjoys the work she does now. She was always the smartest of the three of us. The point is,â Leon continued, putting a comforting arm around Gloriaâs shoulders, âItâs true, you didnât ask for this. And itâll be up to you what you do with this ability, it can be both a blessing and a curse. A double-edged sword, if you will. You canât lose if you try, but if you donât try, are you really respecting your abilities and those of your opponents?â âBut! If I donât hold back, theyâll never beat me! It doesnât matter because Iâll always win, no matter how skilled they get!â Gloria nearly shouted in her protest.
Leonâs mouth twisted and he closed his eyes, clearly thinking hard about his reply. âIâm no good at fancy talk, but think about it like this. You may not think it matters, but your rivals probably look up to you as something to attain. Even if itâs impossible for them, it pushes them far beyond what they would normally be capable of. Even in the world of Pokemon training, like any other craft, perfection is impossible, but something all people strive towards. Itâs what we do as humans. People like you and I are just...a little closer than everyone else. But we arenât perfect either. Think about what you want to use your gift for. After a lot of thought, I decided I wanted to maintain my status as an unbeatable Champion after seeing how inspired it made people.â Gloriaâs eyes were still watering and she looked up at him, tearful. Even though she was Hopâs age and less than half Leonâs, she looked very small.Â
â...Am I a bad person for feeling so ungrateful like this?â she asked in a tiny voice. âNo,â Leon answered immediately. âYouâre just a kid, Gloria. I was just a kid, too. And looking back, I wish I had someone to help me understand why I was too good at Pokemon. Youâll always have your mom, and youâll always have Hop, too. You two rascals grew up together; even when he acts frustrated after losing, he cares about you too much to let this get in the way of your friendship. So chin up, okay kiddo?âÂ
Leon draped part of his cape over Gloriaâs head and offered another grin, this one much wider. Gloria returned it with a watery one of her own. Leon opened his arm out. âCâmere squirt.â Gloria practically fell into Leonâs side, burying her face in the fluffy fringe of his cape and hugging him tightly.Â
âYouâll be fine, Gloria. You got your Pokemon, you got Hop, and now you got me, too. If you ever want someone to talk to about this, give me a ring. Iâll always try to make time if you need it.â
Gloria let go and sat up, wiping away the last of her tears. âThink you might have some time to eat some curry? I got some new ingredients,â she said. âNow that sounds like a champion idea! Howsabout you call Hop too, and we can all cook together. The more fans and ladles in the cauldron, the tastier!â
---
A friend and I had this inside joke that all player characters in Pokemon are probably REALLY weird to all the NPCâs because they have BPE (Big Protagonist Energy), like running around wildly, standing in one place for a long time, never emoting, and being ridiculously OP compared to everyone else. Itâs often said by NPCâs that raising a team of 6 Pokemon is super hard but as the protag itâs super easy, you also usually donât lose battles ever if you train enough. (Iâve only lost a battle once to an NPC in all my years of playing.) I then realized that a lot of the qualities of The Protagonist also apply to Leon from SWSH, and I fell in love with the idea of him realizing thereâs another Protagonist in Galar, and how he reacts, as detailed in this post here. In my own playthrough I felt pretty bad about constantly beating my rivals with absolutely minimal effort cuz they were really trying and had something to prove from beating me.
So then of course I had to write about him confronting a very conflicted Gloria and comforting her and offering advice, gaining a Baby Sister in the process. That being said do NOT tag this as LeonxGloria or LeonxYuumi or whatever, this is NOT a ship fic and in this iteration Gloria is a literal kid and Leon is an adult.Â
[Fic] get up and smell the pokémon [Gen]
@naehja: âGary must have been still friend with Ash at this era, so if he had been here he would have make sure that Ash donât missâ
@bambixronno: âIf nothing else I wouldâve loved to see Go and Gary trying to one up each other in terms of pokemon knowledgeâ
Characters: Gary Oak, Ash Ketchum, Gou, background Koharu Rating: G Word count: 1,902 Summary: It was his Gramps' pokémon camp, there was no way Gary was going to miss it. Not even if Ash refused to get up in the morning, or even if there was some random kid trying to look smarter than him.
AO3 link
*
Gary Oak was many thingsâ âin his obviously humble opinion, all good thingsâ â, but patience had never been a virtue graced upon him, no matter how many times his grandfather gave him lectures on the importance of possessing it.
Besides, when dealing with Ash Ketchum, being patient was a path that would surely end in madness. That was what Gary thought as he marched to Ash's house to bang at the front door, remembering a second too late that his friend had mentioned his mom wouldn't be at home that morning.
"Friend", right. Gary was seriously reconsidering giving the clumsy boy that title.
Giving up would be the sensible thing to do, but Ash had promised he wouldn't miss the event this time, that he would be up first thing in the morning, even before Gary himself, he would see it, trust it. He did not trust it, and for good reasons.
Fuming, he rounded the corner to find the window to Ash's room, though it was currently ajar, instead of a wide open for a change.
"Ash, it's time to wake up!" He yelled, dragging out the âaâ with an annoyed tone to it. As expected, there was no response, or even a glimpse of movement that might signify Ash was up and about. Gary threw a rock at the window. "C'mon, stupid, if you don't wake up I'll catch all the â pokĂ©mon myself!"
Not that they were actually supposed to catch â pokĂ©mon at camp today, but provocation like that had a success rate of 100% in getting Ash riled up. At least when he was awake to hear it.
He made sure to huff and grumble as rock after rock hit the frame of the window, the glass of it making noises that startled Gary, thinking he might have gotten it to shatter this time. Even he didn't trust his luck that much, which is why the rock strategy was quickly set aside.
It worked in his favor that the tree at the side of the house happened to reach just outside Ash's room, and so, he let his ammo of rocks fall to the ground with a thud, and proceeded to climb said tree.
"You better thank me for this, you hear that, Ash?" Gary yelled on on the way up, wincing as the bark dug into his palms. "And you owe me at least twenty limited edition trainer cards."
Thankfully, climbing trees wasn't a new activity for Gary, and he reached the branch closest to the window rather quickly. He watched the room inside for a moment, checking if the window was open enough (it was) and how much impulse he'd have to use to fall right through it. Perched precariously on the branch, Gary took a few steps closer, feeling the leaves trembling beneath him.
He took a deep breath. "Alright, here we goâŠ," Gary whispered, counting to three in his head, then leaping with as much strength as his legs allowed.
For a terrifying moment, he thought he wouldn't make it, but his body collided against the window and threw it open, propelling him inside. His shoulder hit the ground first, then his chin, and his eyes tear up at the sudden jolt of pain. Gary hurriedly sat up to rub the tears away, grateful Ash hadn't seen him almost cry from just a little fall.
As he stood on his feet, brushing some dust off of his clothes, Gary caught his reflection in the window: a bright red spot had already appeared on his chin. He resolutely ignored it, if only because he had a more important mission to take care of at the moment.
During the whole ordeal, Ash had stayed cuddled up to his Snorlax plush toy, snoring lightly like he didn't have a care for all the effort Gary was going through for his sake.
It was only fair that Gary pulled him right onto the unforgiving floor.
"WhâŠ" Ash had the gall to mumble, blinking up at Gary.
"Oh, so you're alive," Gary commented, giving Ash a skeptical look. He nudged Ash's side with his foot. "I wasn't too sure."
"Stop it!" Ash said, slapping Gary's foot away. "What are you doing in my room?"
"I don't know, what are you doing in your room?"
"That makes no sense, I live here." Ash frowned at him, eyeing Gary like he had lost a few brain cells.
Gary rubbed at his forehead so he wouldn't slap it altogether. "Ash?"
"Yeah?"
"What time do you think it is?"
Ash stopped, stared at Gary. Glanced at the window. Stared at Gary again. "Dunno, morning?"
"Ugh! And you promised you'd remember properly this time!" When there was no change in Ash's confused expression, he threw his hands up. "We're late for Gramps' camp, you idiot!"
"I'm not an idiot, you are!" Ash rebutted, entirely out of habit. The rest of Gary's sentence hit him just a second later. "Ah!"
"Yeah, ah!"
"Gary, what do I do?!" Ash yelled, ready to bolt out of the door still in his pajamas.
Gary dove for Ash's wardrobe, digging for clothes and throwing them at their owner. "C'mon, we can still make it. You have two minutes."
"What? That's not enough time!" Ash complained, clutching his clothes.
"One minute."
That was enough to have Ash madly hopping on one foot to try and change his pajama pants into shorts. With Gary glaring at him from the sidelines while shoving supplies into his backpackâ âGary was a good friend like thatâ â, they make it out of the house under three minutes.
The look on his Grandpa's face when they finally skidded to a stop in front of him and all the other kids, panting for breath, was part amusement and part exasperation. He made sure to give him a thumbs up for good measure.
"We actually made itâŠ" Ash wheezed next to him, clutching at his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
"Oh, clumsy boys number one and number two are here," a new voice said, prompting Ash and Gary to both level a glare at the person.
A kid he had never seen before was watching them, the girl beside him not so gently nudging him with an elbow.
"Gou, don't be rude!" The girl fervently whispered.
"So your name is Gou," Gary said. "Who the hell are you?"
"Maybe I would tell you if you got here earlier," the kid replied defiantly.
Before Gary could think of a response to that, his Grandpa put a hand on his shoulder and smiled calmly at the group. "Now, children, no fighting. Ash and Gary got here and we can leave for our camp, and that's what matters." He looked down at Gary. "And mind your language, please."
Ash snorted at the reprimand, so Gary stuck his tongue out at him, the gesture returned in kindâ âthough very discreetly, behind his Grandpa's back.
Once the small group got walking, Ash fell into step beside him, eyes glued to a head of black hair. "That kid has this really smug aura, don'tcha think?"
Gary nodded his assent.
"Kinda like you," Ash continued.
Gary kicked him in the shin; Ash kicked right back.
They bickered for a little longer, until his Grandpa turned with a smile, and both Gary and Ash sprung away and whistled innocently. The professor pointedly didn't comment on their behavior.
"Do you know what â pokĂ©mon is that?" His grandpa asked, looking at each each kid to encourage them to speak up.
"Oh, here he goes," Ash muttered, heaving a sigh as Gary grinned.
"It's aâ â"
"A Kakuna, the cocoon â pokĂ©mon!"
Gary blinked, surprised at hearing a response that didn't come in his own voice. Ash stared at Gou with the same level of bewilderment.
"He actually said it faster than you, Gary," Ash whispered fervently.
"Yes, I can see that."
His grandpa praised Gou for the correct answer, then promptly pointed to a bird marching along with a leek held in its wing.
"What about that one?" Gramps asked.
"That's a Farfetch'd," Gary hurried to answer, startling Gou just like Gary himself had been before. "It holds a leek in its mouth, and uses it like a sword to cut things," he added, reciting the information he remembered reading in an encyclopedia before.
His Grandpa looked like he had something to say, but Gou looked to the side, pointed, and declared: "And that's a Diglett." The â pokĂ©mon in question bobbed its head in response. "It's a â pokĂ©mon who eats roots."
Gary pointed behind a tree, and Gou stretched to peer behind it. "This is Dugtrio, it's Diglett's evolved form! It's really strongâ â"
"And it can dig over sixty miles underground!" Gou completed, before Gary could fully finish his sentence.
"How did you know that was what I was gonna say?" Gary asked, now truly impressedâ âand going by the amazed "ooh"s and "aah"s from the other kids, he wasn't the only one.
"Any good trainer should know, right?" Gou said, grinning.
"You got that right," Gary agreed easily.
"Oi, you two, I'm still here, you know?" Ash whined from where he was standing next to the girl with the long side braid (Gary thought he heard her name was Koharu?).
"Oh, you were there," Gary deadpanned, laughing at Ash's outraged cry that followed.
"Gou, and you too," Koharu pointed at Gary, "you're both being rude to the professor."
"It's fine, it's fine!" Gramps insisted, rubbing Gary's head as he said it. "I'm used to it by now," he told Koharu in a faux whisper.
Gary couldn't bring himself to feel guilty about that.
It was only after a minute of walking that Gary realized him and Gou had fallen into step together, with Ash and Koharu lagging behind them with different levels of exasperation on their faces.
Ignoring them, Gary turned towards Gou. "You know a lot about â pokĂ©mon," he commented.
Gou blinked at him like he didn't understand that Gary was talking to him, but finally smiled smugly, hands on his hips. "Yup, I studied it all myself! I spend all my time studying pokémon, so I know everything about them." He paused, looked away. "...You?"
"Gramps helped a lot."
"Gramps?"
Gary pointed to the man leading their group. "That's him."
Gou's eyes did this thing, like Ash seeing a new â pokĂ©mon or eating his mom's cooking: it got huge on his face, and it sparkled with uncontrollable excitement.
"He's your grandfather?"
Gary nodded proudly. "Yup. He lets me into the lab all the time, I get to see all the â pokĂ©mon whenever I want."
"Then just like Koharu's father with me," Gou said. They smiled at each other.
"What's this, what's this?" Ash's voice rang, and his body was soon squeezing itself between the two of them. "Are you two friends now?! I want to be friends too!"
"Ugh, we're not friends. We met, like, five minutes ago." Gary shoved Ash away, ignoring his pout and Gou's disappointed look. "Don't go getting the wrong impression."
"Butâ â"
"â PokĂ©mon evolve, they're creatures who can change their appearance and form," Gramps was explaining
Gary froze; Gou did too. Their right hands shot up.
"But not all of them evolve," both of them said, like a choreographed number. They stared at each other.
"Right, Professor?"
"Right, Gramps?"
Behind them, Koharu muttered: "Oh, there's two of them nowâŠ"
Vega Nuzlocke liveblog, part 7
A relatively short post, but long enough to have another run-in with Team D.H.!
Seriously how is this a Normal-type Pokemon???
(Iâm passing on Low Kick btw because itâs only useful in very specific circumstances.)
...
Seriously what is this moveset??????
...
Truckinâ right along. Rush is now level 25, nearly caught up with the rest of the team. All the trainers on Route 519 are defeated. And now, a detour to 518 to meet a fresh face!
:(Â
My interpretation of the Dupes Clause sees this as kind of a gray area (Iâve already caught a Pineco, but sheâs dead, so the âis this a duplicate encounter?â question doesnât really have a solid answer).Â
Since Hishi is thus far the only one deceased, weâll choose not to besmirch her memory with a replacement Pineco. For the sake of seeing more fakemon, weâll not count this as the first Route 518 encounter.
Now thatâs more like it
Little punk put Deku to sleep before she went down, lmao
Sheâs got spunk, I like her
Per a friendâs suggestion, her name shall be Hedwig :3
New city ahoy.
Interesting theme for a town. Steel-type gym? Electric?
Oh, I thought this was a Bike Shop, but looks like they sell fancy skateboards instead. And to get one, I have to play some kind of hide-and-seek publicity game lmao
You tricksy bastards
Okay, found âem all
Interesting concept
And a useful item for such a snowy region!
Gonna have to change my keybindings so the âSelectâ button is easier to reach lol
Gdhfjdsjghds this is so freaking sillyÂ
Now to explore the town
1) who the frick is REGINALD
2) why is Team D.H. lurking around this building labeled âPerimeter Labsâ
This old man inside the building offers to trade a Spheal for Baizeast.Â
O-oh. Is this a dungeon?
Oh, this IS Larchâs lab, cool
I mean, not cool because heâs being attacked by criminals, but you know
Thereâs so much dialogue in this game I keep forgetting what Iâve screenshotted and what I havenât. In case I missed documenting it: the Secure Styler is necessary to get Pokemon affected by the meteor disaster in Hoenn under control, because normal Ranger tools donât affect them
They dragged Larch off into a back room so I guess Iâm free to explore this front area of the building now
The scientists seem less concerned than youâd think lmao
And as you can see Team D.H. is kind of goofing off too
oh HI there
âNew bossâ?
... just a typical fight with a grunt
Ah, Iâd suspected as much, but I guess that confirms that D.H. is made up of the leftovers of Teams B.H. and W.H.
LMAO I love this guy
Pffsfsdg everyone is just taking turns dragging them
Second room in this hallway was uninteresting BUT THE THIRD ROOM...
YAAAAAAAAS
Where can I get a Fang Fossil, though!? I NEED A SCIMITOOTH
HHhhhh weâll be back later when we have the right fossil
Oh???
okAY? I examined this panel on the wall and apparently my character just started pressing random buttonsÂ
Uh, oops?
This whole scenario is so bizarre lmao
A second panel that apparently mangled another grunt
oH WOW NICE
Steel goat ftw
Aww, never enough cat Pokemon. Especially ones based on Japanese folklore (weâve had Pokemon based on maneki neko and nekomata, but not both at once, so I guess thatâs still kinda neat)
This one appears to be either Dark or Normal-type since Karate Chop was super effective
Hmm, are you the next distant scream Iâm going to hear?
...
Pfffff I didnât screenshot it but another gruntâs intro line was âOur boss has a big heart. He forgave me for oversleeping and showing up late!â
pffFFF YEP, the next wall panel I found resulted in this guy disappearing
Thatâs kind of dark lmao
All right, weâre nearing the end
Iâm on my way, Professor!!!
This gruntâs Nidorino knows a TM move, which is interesting
Wuh-oh, here we go
Omg I love that my reputation as Hoenn Champion precedes me
He really is a nice boss lmfao
Okay, smartass, but what are you going to DO with it
You wanna fight? Letâs fight
THIS asshole lmfao
Seriously what is his dealÂ
Wh- what
(This was in response to Reginald asking him âWhy are you even here?â)
Was I supposed to be picturing him as some kind of gay stereotype just because he called his underlings âadorableâ
I donât know whatâs going on or how to feel about it but okay
So Mosmero says heâll get rid of the grunt if I take care of âthe effeminate oneâ
Reggie, my dude, I think I might be on your side with this one
Shit, dude, Reginald doesnât look âeffeminateâ at all, he looks badass
He-- he switched out his Houndour for a Skarmory... against my Fire-type...
Listen, I said he looked cool, not that he was smart
Centurions never die, they just go dormant for a while
Oh COME ON, it survived with THAT LITTLE HEALTH and now itâs using some kind of crazy new move, fuck
Fuck
Ugh, Toark moved first on the last turn but I donât know if she actually out-sped the Skarmory or if that drill move just always goes last or what
Persephone has a priority move with Ice Shard, but with her defenses I wouldnât expect her to survive the first attack, especially if itâs Steel like Iâm assuming it will be
Ggghhhh Mentha, youâre up, girl
Gettinâ REAL SICK OF THIS
Good, at least sheâs faster
OH GO FUCK YOURSELF. REALLY?
A DARK-TYPE MOVE??
*THROWS HANDS UP IN THE AIR* SCREW IT, WEâRE GOING FOR IT
NIGHT SHADE!!!
Karma, asshole
Sigh, Tenebrae would have been best for this, goddammit
Haunter levitates so Ground moves wonât hit, leaving Menthaâs Hypnopulse as my only supereffective move, but sheâs hurt too badly to risk staying out
Weâre going to try to brute force it with Persephone, I guess
That doesnât bode well
Iâm glad he wasted a turn, but his next attack will not end well for me
Oh Jesus, Icy Wind lowered his Speed so now Persephone will still probably go first, which is reassuring, but that HP bar looks to be at exactly half which means the next attack might not be enough
Hold onto your butts
You motherhecker
This was Persephoneâs last Icy Wind, too, and itâs her highest-damaging move. (I came into this battle with low PP because I didnât expect to be automatically thrown into a cutscene after talking to that grunt. Damn it.)
Yeah, no shit
Seriously???
Iâm going... to kill this man
I KEEP FORGETTING ABOUT THIS FUCKING MOVE. ITâS A SPECIAL, DARK-TYPE QUICK ATTACK. GOD
RUSH.... HANG IN THERE, BBY
DONâT......
Okay, she didnât take burn damage because of the KO, so I was free to switch to Deku to take out this Staryu
I threw down a Leech Seed and am now using a turn or two to use Potions on Mentha, in case Deku needs backup
Iâll give the dev team this: they made the villains really hate-ableÂ
Ohhhhhhh go fuck yourseeeEEELF
Phew, duh, even with the X Special Reginald used on it, this thing doesnât get STAB for Psychic and is still unevolved. No need to panic
The paralysis still let the little twerp get another attack in, though <_<
Okay, no, weâre switching Deku out
I think Mentha can handle this
hOW DâYOU LIKE THESE APPLES
Might be a good time to mention I found a Twistedspoon in the lab, so Menthaâs Hypnopulse hits hella hard
Eat dirt, Reggie
We could have been friends, dude, or at least foes with an understanding of each other
But you killed my goddamn dog
Which makes you my sworn enemy
Hey, Professor. Give me some good news.
The joke seems to be that red text is more feminine than blue text? I donât... Iâm just not even going to comment
Anyway Mosmero says some more weird nonsense and runs offÂ
Then Larch thanks me again and says to come see him so he can âgive me somethingâ
Quick pit stop at the PC, first, though:
Sleep well, Centurion of Darkness
Hyrax will be rejoining the party for now
Iâm... hesitant, because I worry itâs a Pokemon, and my personal rules for Nuzlocke mean if I got handed a Pokemon as a gift here then I wouldnât be allowed to get another from the fossil reviver guy
I have a full team, though, so hopefully itâll ask my permission before giving me anything
OH, NICE
I worry about all the wrong things in this game, holy spit :âD
Oh shit, I donât know if I even have a Pokemon capable of learning Surf
!!!!!!!! THE SCREEN SHOOK
EARTHQUAKE?? EXPLOSION???
WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT
lmao shuT UP
SHUT UP
God, I hope I have someone who can learn it
Oh hell
OH HELL
Uhhhhh well I can catch something new on Route 520... I may need to creep around the edges of the grass and hope I can get a fishing rod or something first
Oh, whoa, I made it to a gatehouse on the other end of the route and apparently thereâs been a landslide
Related to the quake earlier??
Either way, no dice on fishing rods here, but no water to fish IN, either, so...Â
Letâs catch something?
Oh whoa, three Velvelts and a Hoothoot later, hereâs the new team candidate
MmmmÂ
Welcome to the crew, Cavendish
Let me head back to town to see if I missed anything that might... save me
BIG DOG??? WANT DOGGO
But seriously is this a legendary
How many legendaries does this game HAVE
...
Backtracking even further now and I just ran into a wild Tyrogue in Wisemanâs Cave. Was that a thing before? Are they just really rare?
...
I just spent a longer time than Iâd like to admit scouring my Pokedex and the internet for hints as to what the hell I can do about this Surf situation, and after spoiling an unfortunate amount for myself (all small things, fortunately--mostly typings of various Pokemon... Deku IS going to be Grass/Flying c: ), Iâve found a handful of people saying the Old Rod can be found in Gamboge Town
Specifically, in this house
Blocked by a lousy Team D.H. grunt
Iâm left to assume heâll only leave after I beat the gym
The Water-type Gym
The only member of the squad with a weakness to Water is Toark
Therefore, for safetyâs sake, I think Iâll go ahead and swap Cavendish in for a backup Grass-type
And... considering how gyms are in this game (from the forum posts Iâve seen, the difficulty is a COMMON criticism, which makes me feel like less of a failure)... I guess itâs time forÂ
ace hang plays temtem
I MISS HOP... | Temtem Early Access! Part 1 | Ace Hang Plays
Temtem is a Pokemon-like monster collector MMO thatâs full of adorable creatures that fight in double battles. Itâs tons of fun! Except for Max. Max is a meanie. :( ~Arthur
(Maxâs Oree knocks out Arthurâs Smazee in one hit)
Arthur: Oh my god, fuck you!
Val: You can say fuck?!
Val: Hey everyone, Ace Hang here! Iâm Val!
Arthur: And Iâm Arthur! And weâre playing TemTem! Itâs this newly released but heavily touted Pokemon-like monster collector MMO thatâs received lots of praise from all over the net. From its cute designs to its beautiful world, and the excitement of just having a Pokemon RPG, itâs a game worth checking out.
Val: Arthur just would not stop talking about this. He sent me a picture of, uh... (Val fiddles on his phone) this... platypus lookinâ thing, and itâs, like... (Val holds out his phone, which has a picture of Platypet on it) Look at how cute this thing is!
Arthur: I know, right?
Val: And dang, the trailer? Man, itâs like, beautiful! Basically, Iâm hyped. Letâs do this!
-------
(Opening of the game. Arthurâs character looks like himself, as heâs controlling the game.)
Val: What the fuck?! Is that our mom?!
Arthur: Oh god, she looks like sheâs going to overfeed me.
Val: Itâs our Apprenticeâs Eve.
Arthur: Yes, it is. Cool. Okay, looks like weâve got a Tempedia. âThe quintessential device every trainer should have. The Tempedia records crucial info on every Temtem seen and caught. Yours is a present from Aina.â
Val: Sweet. Thanks, Mom.
Arthur: Alright, letâs head outside. Oh, yay! Everyoneâs here to see us off!
Val: Aww, they pitched in to give us money for school! Thatâs so sweet of them!
Arthur: âOh, thatâs lovely! Thank you so much dear neighbors! But where is your friend Max?â
Val: Heâs probably the Hop of this game.
Arthur: Oh, Hop! I loved Hop.
Val: Heâs seriously one of my favorite rivals. Like, heâs a shit trainer, but heâs just such a good guy deep down. I just...
Arthur: Just, he was... a bro, you know?
Val: Guyâd always work his hardest to uplift you no matter what. I just... I just appreciated that so much. Like, you two played off each other, you worked hard for each other to help us reach our dreams...
Arthur: I hope Hop joins us for the DLC. I want to see more of him.
Val: Anyway, Iâll voice Max, and- oh god, I hate him already.
Arthur: He just showed up!
Val: âSomeone calling? Oh, hey, Arthur. Did you know itâs my Apprenticeâs Eve too?â
Arthur: And I guess thatâs Professor Konstantinos- heâs just the professor. âDonât worry, my dear Aina, Iâll drop these kids off at the Accademia before going to the University.â
Val: âCool, can we go with you?â
Arthur: âYouâre too young for college, kid. But, maybe one day. What about you, Arthur?â Well, I certainly would like to go to college.
Val: âArthur isnât that good at handling Temtem. But thatâs okay, donât worry, Arthur. You can just stay here and take care of Aina.â
Arthur: âHey-â âAlright, letâs go to the lab, kiddos.â
Val: Why the fuck did he say that?
-------------------
Arthur: Anyway, the lab is right here... and those are our starters over there.
Val: Oh, cool. Looks like a grass type, a water type, and a fire type. I think.
Arthur: Wrong, actually. Crystal, melee, mental.
Val: Oh, thatâs interesting.
Arthur: Iâll see if we can get a better description. âYouâve already learned the basics of Temtem. These are from all over the Archipelago.â
Val: âHey, Teach, do you have any digital Temtem?â Digital?
Arthur: Itâs a type, like water, fire, and nature.
Val: Oh, sweet, thereâs robots?!
Arthur: âDigital Temtem are a very recent invention and therefore very rare.â
Val: âHa! I have one!â Okay, now youâre just showing off, buddy.
Arthur: Itâs kind of cute, though. âBut since youâve got one, weâll let Arthur pick the one he wants.â
Val: âWhat? Why does Arthur get to choose and I donât?!â Because you have a fucking robot Temtem, Max. A fucking robot Temtem. Also youâre a dick.
Arthur: âShut up, kid. Arthur, take your pick.â
Val: Okay, so the one on the left is crystal type. âCrystleâ. One in the middle is âSmazeeâ, melee- did he say he won it in a pub brawl?
Arthur: Professors have weird lives.
Val: Okay. And the one on the right is Houchic, a mental type.
Arthur: I personally want the one in the middle. It just looks cute.
Val: Smazee? Hey, itâs probably a good choice.
Arthur: Itâs a little fuzzy monkey lion thing!
Val: Yeah, itâs the cutest one. Okay, letâs roll, then.
Arthur: Okay, letâs head out now. Oh, hey, Max.
Val: âArthur, the teacherâs pet... you think youâre better than me, donât you?â Oh, Iâm sorry, dickhead, you have a fucking ROBOT TEMTEM and I DONâT.
Arthur: This Smazee is my baby now and if you hurt him Iâll kill everyone in this room and then myself.
Val: âFite me, bitch.â Okay, sure, asshole. What are you gonna do? Iâm the protagonist, and Iâm gonna beat your ass.
Arthur: Maybe then youâll learn to respect me.
Val: Wh-Why are they even our friend?! All theyâve done is tell us weâre too weak and dumb for this shit, call us a teacherâs pet, throw a hissy fit when we get a Temtem like some kind of entitled kid... Like what the fuck, dude! Whereâs Hopâs wholesomeness?!
Arthur: Opponent is Max. Time for a battle tutorial. So, looks like you select âbattleâ, select a move, and attack. Letâs hit them with a âKickâ...
Val: Fuck them up! Kick their ass!
Arthur: Youâll regret saying I should have just stayed with my mum, Max...
(Smazee does meager damage. Oree one-shots Smazee.)
Arthur: ...
Val: ...
Arthur: Oh my god, fuck you!
Val: You can say fuck?!
Arthur: You have the audacity to come to me for a battle, burn my fucking Smazee, like some pissing dog, and then say âHooray, my first victory!â as if you didnât pick the fucking fight yourself?!
Val: You can say fuck?!
Arthur: I HATE him! I HATE them and their fucking Oree!
Val: The Oree didnât do anything wrong! Maybe it just crit!
Arthur: There are no crits in this fucking game!
Val: Are you fucking serious?! Oh my god, fuck you, Max.
Arthur: Ugh. Such a prick. Anyway, âThat Digital Temtem really gave you an edge there, Max.â
Val: âDidnât you say it was the tamer and not the Temtem that made all the difference?â
Arthur: Oh, piss off. âSorry, Arthur, but thereâs no way you could have won against them.â Ugh. And he heals up Smazee a bit... and gives us...?
Val: Itâs a birdie! Oh my god, that SQUEAK.
Arthur: A Tuwai. And itâs quite rare, and has some mysterious powers. Iâll take good care of him too!
Val: âWhat? Why donât I get one of those?!â Because you have a fucking DIGITAL TEMTEM, you dick!
Arthur: Alright, and now, the journey begins! (Smazee is following the Avatar) Oh MY GOD ITâS FOLLOWING ME! OH MY GOD ITâS FOLLOWING ME! OH MY GOD THATâS SO CUTE. (turns character around to face the Smazee walking behind him, it does a little chirrup) Oh, youâre so cute. Weâre going to take names together, you and I. Oh my god, I love you.
Val: I can see you already love him.
Arthur: Yes. Yes I do.
-----------
Arthur: And weâre here at Brical de Mar.
Val: âHey, what took you so long?â We have a full team now, dickhead. Tateru, Paharo, Pigipec...
Arthur: And I guess this is Sophia. Looks like she runs the dojo, which is basically the gym.
Val: Looks like a water type gym leader. And now sheâs taking us on a tour.
(post tour)
Arthur: Aww, that was a nice tour!
Val: Okay, whoâs better? Nessa or Sophia? Like, appearance, personality wise?
Arthur: Youâre asking me?!
Val: A lot of people seemed to like Nessa, thatâs all.
Arthur: I mean... I... really have no clue.
Val: Yeah, me neither. Okay, letâs roll. âSee you in the dojo, loser.â Watch me beat the final boss, dickhead.
#ace hang#btw yes max is nonbinary#i'm trying to see if the story continues in earlier versions of the alpha#since some youtubers have covered it#so far they have no redeeming qualities
WH characters as Pokémon trainers - Season 2: Spring of Unicorns boys
Here's the second installment! FYI, all pictures of the Pokémon I post have come from the official Pokémon website https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokedex. Now let's get on with it!
Klaus (at school)
Noctowl / Sceptile / Polteageist
Alright, some of you are not going to like this, but Iâm giving Klaus two separate teams, one for his first main route (aka his team as a student in the Academy), and for his second main route (aka his team working for the Ministry). I HC all members of the Ministry are assigned a partner PokĂ©mon specifically bred for the Ministryâs workers (sort of like Detective Pikachu), so thatâs why his team changes up and why he is being mentioned twice. It is not out of bias. Now, with that mention aside, Klaus is exactly what youâd expect as a PokĂ©mon trainer; calculating, sure to win, but soooo soft with his team. I had to give him my favorite original owl PokĂ©mon (sorry, Rowlet!!) as a nod to his familiar. His Noctowl (which he raised from a Hoothoot) was given to him by his grandfather, and Treecko was given to him by his father. Being raised by a gym leader, Klaus has pretty grand ambitions for himself to surpass his father, and it shows in his team. All of them are pretty good on their own, but can only work well with each other because of Klausâ knowledge of battling and his opponents and their PokĂ©mon. Given how serious he is as a trainer, catching The Emperor smile at the sight of his sleeping Hoothoot and Treecko fast asleep on his shoulder with its tail wrapped around his neck is a melt-your-heart kind of sight â just donât let him catch you looking at him looking like that đ
Serge
Ursaring / Drampa / Togedemaru
Okay so I used some of canon WH Sergeâs past into his PokĂ©mon trainer story (get ready to cry Serge fans), and for those that donât know itâs a bit of a spoiler but nothing super major (compared to his entire main route lol) Serge grew up with his grandmother and her partner PokĂ©mon at her candy shop. Her partner PokĂ©mon had a successor (Teddiursa) and was raised with Serge with the hopes that theyâd both eventually take over for them. But Sergeâs grandmother became very ill and passed suddenly, her partner PokĂ©mon was not able to handle her loss and passed away shortly after she did, leaving Serge and his Teddiursa homeless and orphaned. They both became each otherâs rock as they lived out in the streets for a while before being able to join the PokĂ©mon Academy. One day he decided to join a competition, with the winner being able to join the Elite Four and he somehow won with his little ragtag team of Ursaring (evolved form of Teddiursa) Drampa and Togedemaru. He became the 2nd trainer of the Elite Four, and earned a slew of contracts to be in certain advertisements for PokĂ©mon products, thus having a happy ending for this Cinderella story. I should also mention that he obviously named his Ursaring âTaffy,â who looooves to give bear hugs to Klausy. đ„șđ
Azusa
Froslass / Weavile / Frosmoth
When I think of Azusa, I think of him as an Ice-type gym leader. Ice-type PokĂ©mon are known for their beauty, and their really sad PokĂ©dex entries, so that kind of fits my impression of Azusa (I havenât played his route yet, so forgive me Iâm trying my best). Froslass I believe is based on the Japanese snow woman of legend that is said to lead men to get lost in the mountains and freeze them to death. While he may seem cold-hearted, he actually loves his PokĂ©mon a lot, especially the Snom his little brother Tsukasa found for him. đ„°
How did I do with season 2? Looking forward to season 3? Let me know what you think! Feel free to send a comment, a PM, reblog with your thoughts in the tag or whatever, send me an ask (anon/public)! Just trying to put something out here that other people would like đ
WH Characters as Pokémon Trainers - Season 6: Labyrinth and the Cursed Prince boys
I am on a roll today! I'm sharing a link back to the person that recolored of one of the PokĂ©mon featured. Hope y'all enjoy! đž
Zeus
Charizard / Tyrantrum / Haxorus
This little shit head is a gym leader totally not because his dad pulled some strings with the people at the PokĂ©mon League to make him one after nearly nagging him to death about it. đ
Zeus is a scalie, so of course Dragon-types are his speciality. And of course he would pick the most kaiju looking ones đ€Ł Charizard is the only non-Dragon type here, but he always mega evolves it to Charizard X/Y (he is an avid believer that Charizard should be recognized as a Dragon-type and it shows). Itâs also no surprise it ended up being a shiny when it hatched so it looks super cool in either of its mega evolved forms. Can you imagine little Zeus wearing a dinosaur onesie running around with his three PokĂ©mon in their pre-evolved forms? You wonât be disappointed at the cuteness đ
Klaus II (at the Ministry)
Noctowl / Granbull / Solgaleo
I swear there is no more Klaus after this, but as you can see his team is different from the one he used while at the Academy. Now that he works for the Ministry, he was given a Snubbull for a partner PokĂ©mon and I think we found Klausâ weak spot: grumpy-looking doggos with an underbite. Snubbull took quite a liking to Klaus, it took no time for it to evolve into a bigger grumpy-looking doggo. How he managed to snag Solgaleo was by chance according to some, but others in his family believe it was because Solgaleo saw some of itself in Klaus and took a liking to him (also, the Goldsteins do have this strong affinity for Lions being the animal on their family crest).
Hiro
Aegislash / Lucario / Snorlax
While we were busy thinking about little Zeus stomping around like the King of the Kaiju, we nearly forgot about his best friend trying to keep him under control. Hiroâs Lucario was given to him by his father when it was a Riolu, and they trained together ever since. Snorlax was given to him by Zeusâ father when it was a Munchlax around the same time Zeus got his second PokĂ©mon, so basically all of Hiroâs PokĂ©mon have suffered with him through Zeus and his PokĂ©monâs antics đ€ itâs all love though đ
I'll be reblogging this and season 5 for the day crew tomorrow and I'll try to have seasons 7 and 8 out as well. Just trying to catch up for missing the week, thanks for being so patient! đ
WH Characters as Pokémon Trainers - Season 5: Sol Maiden boys
Alright y'all I'm back! The theme for this season seems to be what my first impression of the boys were through their PokĂ©mon. I hope y'all like the teams I made up, hopefully I can get a couple more seasons out before the weekend is over đ
Leslie
Decidueye / Milotic / Lopunny
When I think of Leslie I think of archery and beautiful, fashionable things, and the color green for some reason. So this team seemed to make the most sense to me, of course his starter Pokémon was going to be Rowlett, who evolves into the arrow-wielding grass/ghost Pokémon Decidueye. Lopunny was given to him by his mother when it was a Buneary, some time after Leslie and Buneary became friends his mother passed away from an illness. It affected Leslie greatly because he was so close to her, so Lopunny took it upon itself to become a guardian to him.
Sigurd
Altaria / Blaziken / Gengar
Sigurd is so close with each of his PokĂ©mon, heâs got really awesome stories of all of them and he makes them blush because he gushes about them all the time. Altaria likes taking its pals for a ride through the skies, and Sigurd treats them all to ice cream afterward. In exchange for Sigurdâs doting on them, his team unquestionably (most of the time) assist him in pulling pranks on Klausy. đ
Mel
Sudowoodo / Appletun / Scyther
Mel has liked apples since he was a kid, and one day he found a wild Applin and was determined to catch it so he could have his favorite thing to be friends with. Sudowoodo being a fossilized tree was what made him take an interest in trees and botany. You can find him and his team wandering forests to research plant life and PokĂ©mon or at the Academyâs greenhouse where he puts his Scyther in charge of pruning the plant life, it also likes to whittle with Mel in their spare time.
Season 6 is coming up next, so please stay tuned! đž
WH Characters as Pokémon Trainers - Season 4: Princess of Crystal boys
Hey y'all, just a disclaimer, I have never played any of the season 4 boys before, so I'm going based off of the information I found in the Wiki and event stories I've obtained.
Cerim
Glaceon / Escavalier / Florges
Cerim being a Knight made sense for him to have a Pokémon like Escavalier with its design. Glaceon is his little Ice princess (and his favorite Eeveelution), and Florges is actually one of the Fairies from the Fairy World! They became good friends while Cerim was getting used to his Knightship in the Fairy World and they developed a close bond.
Guy
Cinderace / Blastoise / Hitmonlee
Guy was so excited to get Scorbunny as his starter PokĂ©mon, and just as excited when he got Squirtle and Hitmonlee! They have literally been through everything together and he and his team members are all renowned football players on the Worldâs most famous PokĂ©mon/Trainer team!
Glenn
Gallade / Bisharp / Zamazenta
Glenn of course has PokĂ©mon that are all protector types, just like him. He had Gallade since he was still a Ralts, Bisharp was given to him by The Ministry to grow with him as he became a Guardian. Zamazenta is a new addition, so itâs still getting used to things but it looks hopeful for the future.
I'm going back to work tomorrow, and I don't have all of these quite finished, but I will continue to try and update once a day. Thanks for the likes and reblogs, it means a lot :)
WH Characters as Pokémon Trainers - Season 3: King of Fairies boys
Joel
Wigglytuff / Primarina / Meloetta
Okay so yâall know I obviously had to pair Joel with PokĂ©mon known for their singing, and of course Jigglypuff comes to mind. His Jigglypuff was a really popular TV personality on a kidâs show before it evolved into Wigglytuff, but even so they became a just as popular teen tv personality. Joel, Primarina and Meloetta are all recording artists who tour together. As he gets older, Joel tries to take it easy with his PokĂ©mon so they can actually enjoy the fruits of their labor. Itâs not easy being three of the most famous recording artists and a famous tv personality!
Vincent
Arcanine / Arcanine / Incineroar
Of course Vincent would have all fire-type PokĂ©mon, and being one of the Ministryâs Knights he would have to have some pretty powerful, protective ones. And what better PokĂ©mon than doggos? Gotta go with the original fire dogs, the Growlithe line. They are revered for their beauty, and their ability to command attention from anyone around it with just a bark. Vincent received his two Growlithe (they both came from the same litter) as a gift from his father for his birthday. Itâs the only memory he has of his father really, and after his passing the young Growlithe become very protective and worried for him, and in a way to cheer him up began treating him like one of them, and the three formed a very close, brotherly bond. He was already in the Academy when he found an abandoned and very hungry little Litten fighting for its life as a stream of rainwater gushed down toward the street drain, causing a strong current that almost sucked the poor kitten down if Vincent hadnât been there. He brought the little Litten back to his dorm, fed it, and he and his Growlithe happily welcomed it into their little family. Vincent is the only one of the series overall that has 2 of the same PokĂ©mon in his team. Because of his fatherâs status as a Ministry Knight, he became a fire-type gym leader who faces challengers rather late in the PokĂ©mon league journey due to his prowess in strategic battles.Â
Leon
Galarian Rapidash / Keldeo / Mudsdale
Leon would have partnered with his own brethren because he knows they are noble, reliable, and all hold unique powers that most take for granted. One of them being a mythical PokĂ©mon (Keldeo) shouldnât really surprise you, Leon is actually quite intimidating as a challenger. Heâs not battling you for fun, if youâve done something messed up to a person or PokĂ©mon or anything, heâs going to make sure you know you done hâyucked up. đ
What did ya think of season 3? On point or would you have picked different 'mons for the guys? If so, which ones would you have picked? Let me know!!!!
