//tl;dr, not really! jay finds zeus absolutely hilarious and finds it hard to take him seriously (most of the time). she thinks he's got a good heart, so even though she (playfully) bullies him relentlessly, she's never, like, too harsh on him. she'd never consider dating him or anything, but zeus is one of the first people she hits up during sleepless nights so they can talk about pretty much everything.

Caesar Route Chapter 3 (10-14)

Last time on the Caesar route, we learned that Magic Soldiers are not actually magic super soldiers, they’re just corpses carrying a black robe plague variant and also it’s all Zett’s fault.

Everybody confronts Zett, who gets pissed that Caesar “betrayed” him. Liz’s knee jerk reaction is to defend Caesar, and

Yeah I don’t think that reasoning with this guy should be strategy number one. Man’s literally making corpse foot soldiers out of the fucking black plague.

So Caesar breaks up with Zett, and Zett defaults to “of course it’s because you’re into the girl” and then Caesar basically confirms that. Zett calls him naive and THEN

Put that down as stuff I didn’t expect to hear from Zeus. 

Zett pulls a smoke bomb escape. Zeus and Hiro run after him, so Liz, Caesar, and Alfonse have to deal with the walking corpses. Liz asks Alfonse if the Mikhail cells from last route will work, and Alfonse thinks they will. It’s a good thing that they masters mass producing them last route, or something. I don’t remember much of the plot anymore.

Liz and Caesar hold down the corpses while Alfonse uses the Mikhail cells on them. The Mikhail cells are effective. Alfonse leaves to visit the Goldstein Lab to get more Mikhail cells, which I’m sure will go Very Smoothly considering the state of the head of the lab. But the important thing to THIS route is that Liz and Caesar are now ALONE. 

Caesar starts reminiscing about Zett.

If he was your magic mentor and you’re calling him a “man,” why does he look like he’s 14.

Caesar describes Zett as not a very good friend and reveals they grew up in the Forgotten City, which if memory serves is just... the alleyways in Gedonelune? Why are they called like they’re the ruins of some basic-ass YA novel location? Who knows who cares.

Liz says she always thought Caesar was from nobility, he corrects it to a fallen noble house.

What exactly did the House Baroque do wrong, exactly? Because from what I remember about the Day King shit and what’s actually been parroted over and over again is that the Day King did all the bad things.

So Liz and Caesar hold hands and THEN.

NOT NOW CAESAR.

But apparently Liz’s EARS HAVE STOPPED WORKING because she doesn’t react to anything he says and he just drops it.

Liz starts to think her feelings for Caesar are changing and then THIS asshole shows up and recites more poetry.

Here’s where I’d make a Steven Universe reference but I actually don’t know enough about Steven Universe to make a reference. But it’s not lost on me that this poetry includes diamonds, a rose quartz, and amethyst, AND a pearl. Just throw in a garnet and the sets basically complete.

Anyway Liz gets a coin and then the chapter ends.

And look guys, I try not to go too overboard with JoJo’s reference just because Caesar is named Caesar and he flirts alot, but like... the SECOND i was typing the caesar raphael tag, the battle tendency opening came on spotify shuffle.

<Review> It was good! except that stupid climax and stupid magnet charm and stupid perfume shakeout and stupid bunch of death flags and etc But it feels kinda bland, maybe because I watched Zeus' route right before?

I honestly quite wondered how the story would flow; his intimacy with her was already high enough, and we the player already knew his backstory (besides I was quite sure that K-R-S issue wouldn't be covered in K2). So I thought: this K2 should have an emotional conflict, but how? But the writer twisted this situation; a new character named Alfonse appeared, and his relationship with Klaus was used as an emotional conflict… I was kinda surprised by this. In a way, Klaus' route was used to reveal Al's backstory, but that wasn't unpleasant to me. Rather, it appropriately stimulated my curiosity about what the hell happened between the two.

But the one thing that bothers me is, this conflict was only implied and not resolved in Klaus' route. And I'm sure that this will be covered in Al's route, then conversely, his route will be used as a stage for the conflict between the two. And I doubt if Solmare can do this well. I'm kinda worried that what if I end up like "I'm watching Al's route, but why is Klaus being shown more and his emotional line being emphasized more?" Well… I have no choice but trust the writer But really, I'm kinda scared. The conflict between the two is already serious, and Klaus finds out there's something between Al and Liz? While he has a crush on her? oh no

About the character Klaus… demanding, intimidating, sharp tongue, the manner of a superior… like that. In K1, his characteristics felt relatively emphasized since Liz was a novice provisional student. However, as she grew up after the cataclysm, the sense of hierarchy and vertical distance between the two was greatly resolved. But in my personal opinion, if I only consider characteristics, I'd rather give K1 a higher score. Of course it's obvious that K2 is much better as a romantic partner (compared to K1, I mean), but what can I say... it feels like his characteristics have also been diluted in the process of diluting all the negative elements of K1? Those elements are subtly revealed when dealing with other characters (especially Al), but well. This evaluation might change if I see Al's route later. Perhaps his behavior will be more severe and drastic than K1… I'm not sure though.

<Trivia> I don't have much time to post since the semester started plus translating takes more time than I think Anyway, I might start Hiro's route on Tuesday or Thursday, but I guess the upload term will be irregular. Considering that I have midterm in April, I'll probably not be able to finish Hiro's until May. huh

//another day, another route completed! this time we have nox, and amazingly, i don't think i have too many thoughts on this one, mostly because a lot of them cover... multiple bases. i'll try to explain that the best i can. blah blah blah, beware of spoilers.

okay, so i actually briefly started nox's route when it was first released, but i had to abandon it because... well, it was a bad idea to do that when i was so behind on routes in the first place, so it's not like i was going in 100% blind. this did not lead to a detrimental experience lol.

so.... nox. look. he's hot. i like his stupid little mullet and his very charming blue eyes, okay? he's hot and i'm not going to pretend that he isn't. it is still annoying to me though that you can REAAAAAALLLY tell that he was drawn by a different sprite artist. one of the best parts of the night class is that they ARE drawn by the same person, so it makes the cast look AND feel cohesive. not the biggest complaint, but it DOES bother me very slightly every time i look at nox when he's on screen with another character.

i've expressed this before, but nox's outfit as "nightmare" is... not great and knowing that it is COCO'S fault? absolutely hilarious. nox, i'm begging you to never take fashion advice from a cat again. i can fix you.

coming off that note, i know that there was budgeting issues for WH at this point in time (i believe nox's route came out around the time obey me got released, so... yikes), but i REALLY wished that they would have given nox a different pose or SOMETHING to hide that it was nox a little better. something like how the day class boys have different sprites for when they are holding their wands. i know that they basically stopped doing this after the night class boys (unless your name is alfonse), but.... sigh. come to think of it, i don't think even klaus had his front-facing sprites re-touched with the new ministry clothes. can't believe i didn't realize that until now.

i do also appreciate that they make sure to mention that nox's voice DOES change while he's in costume. i was wondering about that for the longest time lol.

speaking of chocolate cake, i am very glad that coco was a very minor character. coco is so one-note, which is disappointing because i think coco has a fantastic design. weird how that works out.

overall, the route itself is... fine. it's very day class-core, in which liz and nox get together very quickly. i mean, they TECHNICALLY get together only in the final chapters, but the quickness of both nox and rex falling in love with liz... goodness. y'all have known each other for like, 5 days. chill.

okay, i can't NOT talk about the love triangle. look, i'll be honest, it's so hard to sell a love triangle in an otome game. like, narratively, liz by the point in time rex's route begins, doesn't even reciprocate rex's feelings. it's funny to me in the moment knowing this, but it is a little annoying in practice. imo, if your love triangle is unable to become a reasonable threesome then don't write a love triangle. imo, nox and rex lack that kind of chemistry, so it's not the Good Shit. not to say that i don't think nox and rex shouldn't be hate-fucking each other (because they should, we love rivals to lovers here), it's just that they don't know how to fucking share and it would be way too distracting and nothing would happen. do you understand what i mean by this. i can't wait to get to gray's route so i can see liz turn the both of them down.

i will never tire of lucious being such a good friend.

genuinely, this puts a smile on my face. like, all of the night class boys do, but lucious being the first person to notice when liz falls in love is so important to me (ESPECIALLY BECAUSE AMELIA!!! IS STILL!!!!! BARELY HERE!!!!!!!!!). i love that liz has another person to talk about boys with. it's so delightful.

i do appreciate that nox has a good reason for being the phantom thief, but... come on, man. you're REALLY telling me that NOBODY is going to figure out that you're nightmare? let's just compile the evidence for a sec:

works in a magical tool shop (strike 1)

said magical tool shop SPECIALIZES in roger nigel's tools, which nox is an expert on. like, at some point you have to wonder where they're getting their stock, even if nox keeps the important ones hidden.

while nox does use his mother's maiden name, i'm pretty sure that anyone that looks into roger nigel in ANY capacity is going to figure out who roger's wife was. i would not be surprised if rex, who is literally a reference dept. worker, would have access to this info. this would expose his relationship to roger immediately.

the way nox does his calling cards for the cast is dangerous. rex picks up on the fact that nightmare had "convenient timing, like he was listening in on their conversations" (which... lol, he was). there is a point where he literally sends one while in the SAME ROOM as everyone else (especially rex, who 100% has him figured out). ballsy, but unnecessarily risky. i'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he doesn't do this with all of his calling cards.

if liz can look into nightmare's eyes and be able to tell it's nox, i'm sure the other people who spent many years with him would be able to do do the same.

like, come on man. be a better phantom thief LMAO.

actually, i want to talk about rex for a second. because i will admit, i don't find him nearly as attractive or interesting as nox, but i have to respect the HUGE big dick energy play he did in nox's happy ending.

the 'our little brothers' comment does certainly solidify to me that rex already figured it out, though. i'm curious to see why he hasn't turned nox in yet... but i'm sure it has something to do with their rivalry. whatever it is, i think it's a selfish reason, since i doubt rex would know the real reason why nox is collecting the tools.

overall it's not a bad route, it's just not very remarkable. since there's no big bad threat looming over the narrative, there's less stakes. i get the feeling as though this mystery series (and possibly the next two, but i hear that clive's route has some particularly juicy dramatic bits so we'll see) is going to feel like a filler arc. not a bad thing by any means, it's very welcome, but just not as fulfilling as some of the other routes in the game. again, it's very day class-core, so it does evoke some nostalgic feelings in that way.

Alfonse Route Chapter 14 (9-13)

Last week on the Alfonse Route, Liz and The Bois start to make medicine, but they’re kind of failing at it, and then Elias arrives.

Elias brings the cavalry! Amelia, Guy, Luca, Cerim, Leslie, Joel, Azusa (BOO), Leon, Randy/Serge and Sigurd (who also graduated but came back to help on account of being better people than Shithead) came to help. I’m pretty sure that Alfonse’s tinyass office is holding the entire cast of Wizardess Heart sans Vincent, Glenn, Lucious, the professors, and villains (who weren’t also love interests). And also Mel, who has no good reason NOT to be here.

Side note, why is fucking AZUSA also better than Shithead now? 

Aw. So Alfonse and Sigurd have a nice reunion, and Sigurd informs him that Elias told him about the situation in the academy and he came as fast as he could, proving that once again, Sigurd is superior to Shithead.

So they get to work, then they take a lunch break and everyone fights over sandwiches, like you do.

How? Did this happen? Who did he make out with?

Unfortunately, the same thought occurs to Zeus. Guy considers eating Caesar, and at that point I remember only about a quarter of the room knows that Caesar turns into a pig when he makes out with someone.

And then the plotline doesn’t get resolved. We never find out who Caesar kissed, why they kissed, and who kissed him to turn him back into a human.

We skip to nightfall. Liz steps outside the office to get some fresh air and ponder over the fact that somehow they still haven’t gotten enough magic power to make the medicine, which leads me to theorize that the extra push they need is just... Shithead. Which would be so fucking stupid. There’s literally no fucking way Shithead alone is more powerful than literally every other main dude and Amelia. That’s fifteen fucking people. I counted.

Alfonse joins Liz outside. They commiserate over being extremely worried about the fate of the entire academy. Alfonse despairs that they won’t have enough medicine for everyone and is not looking forward to choosing who to save and who not to save. All of which could have been avoided if Shithead had not been a privileged twat, but yknow. Liz and Alfonse resolve to move forward and do what they can.

The next morning, Liz collapses while infusing the potions with magic and uh...... now has the Black Robe Plague.
