An ultracapitalist warlord is harrasing cyborg kids for a comic book. You can help the kids by pulling sick skateboard tricks. The reward is a playable magical girl (who also pulls sick skateboard tricks).

A megacorporation has made the stock exchange into a bloodsport.

Your grandad tries to corrupt a computer. The only way to stop him is by jumping into cyberspace and blasting orchestral dubstep at him.

A room on your ship has been taken over by talking cancer cells. This is entirely beneficial to you.

An autistic child figured out who the main antagonist of the universe is. Some people did a cult about it.

The Pope of Capitalism is hiding in his own pocket dimension. You fight him by throwing a disc at ghosts.

Some of the characters you play have built-in weaponry. One of them has a built-in cat.

The alternate reality version of you has been trapped in a storybook fighting a one-person rebellion against a mad child king.

Sometimes you get attacked by the pinnacle of edgelords who is also your grandad's boytoy. He is a pushover, but somehow his disciples aren't.

You gain the ability to own and pilot a big ship. For unexplained reasons the ship is powered by a mummified finger in a jar.

One time you pilot a robot ghost to fight soldiers in space while a ship captain sings a shanty at you.

Turns out your adoptive mother is really your adoptive mother masquerading as your adoptive mother. Her ex blames you for this.

The final objective of a climactic story mission involves you helping your mother fight her abusive ex and preventing the corpse of your grandmother from eating the sun.

The leading scientist of a now long-dead empire has gone missing. You need to help his husband and their three talking pets fight living mannequin arms using a spellbook.

Time travel exists, and its main purpose is to stop Y2K, which actually happened.

Anyone wanna my 2 cents on Jade Shadows?

So, right off the bat (before I put my personal personal thoughts out there), we need to acknowledge the criticism and outright discomfort this quest had.

Some of the criticism this quest got is something I can agree with. Specifically; Jade Shadow's needed more time. 100%. Let them cook, or more importantly, let the story cook and maybe even burn a bit to give us some crispy, smokin hot parts.

The little footnote at the end of the quest saying we have 'more questions than answers'? We get it, you're self-conscious, but that doesn't give you an excuse for not giving me Stalker. PERIOD, BITCH.

Jest aside, srsly, we needed to know more about Jade, Stalker, what happened to them, baby Orion (Halo possessed me in that moment, iykyk), etc. People needed to get invested in the characters, especially because this is a quest so close to being like Sacrifice on its level of storytelling...

Had it been able to have just 30+ minutes longer.

Onto the 2nd part of the criticism, birthing sim:

I'll be honest, as someone who was thinking of even going into being a midwifery/allied health, it didn't freak me out as much as it did others. But that's just one side of it. The other is how people say Jade's agency was ignored.

I'll be honest, this is just wrong. It's not media illiteracy by any means, but rather pure ignorance. Why?

Because her agency is declared.

When?

"... you're going to be a father." OH, and the fact she literally wanted the baby. There are plenty of people who can explain it better than that, and whilst I acknowledge people may feel this way, this was, in fact, not what happened.

Also, this quest is not pro-life, nor is it anything related to that. If it was, I assure you, you would have a majority of the fan base up and walk. Take a chill pill. If you want to attack something for being pro-life, go help out at an abortion clinic with crowd control or smth. Because once you see that, you'll understand just how wrong you are.

It's not subtle.

It's not in between the lines.

It doesn't exist.

The end. Period. Fullstop.

The criticism is fair, but going so far as to say those are the undertones is just not on. Not only are you lying about something, but you are also disrespecting the very real women whom have had their agency denied in one way or another.

Now, that's not the only criticism about it, but those are just a few things you may see floating on tumblr. Again, both are ok and fair. But when you start to spread lies or ignore what actually happened, you're part of the problem, not the solution.

Now, onto the fun stuff!

Imo, aside from what was stated before, the quest was actually pretty fun and interesting. The pair make an interesting concept, especially now with the lil fugly bean, which has stolen a place in my cold, brainrotted heart. I think I like the Corpus Cap the most- pls marry me, pls. Oh, an Hunhow? Let me hug him. Let me give him a home on my ships. Let me tell him he can be my bestie!!!

Back to Stalker, though, I really hope we see more of him, especially now he's git a VA.

Speaking of, homie didn't get to speak often, but God did it hit home when he did. You can feel how desperate he is, then when he gets his answers, how lost he is. Finally, resolution and love ehen he names his lil kid at the end.

Music was on point, too. I can't listen to it tho bc Ik ima be sobbing lol. It was so beautiful!!!!!!!

Lorewise, however, I have so many fucking questions, but in the funny haha/good way.

Was jade pregnant b4 being a wf? If not, Stalker...

Why was their relationship shamed upon? Was Jade a Dax and him, well, him? Or was it because they weren't married? What was it that made the Orokin make em into Warframes? Also, Ballas, man, we know your hypocritical ass is in this shit too.

Also, Umbra and Helminth are confirmed to roam around the Orbiter, and vc Umbra is my main, this is a personal achievement. Now let us see it happen, and I'll be DE's 4 life.

But seriously, TL;DR:

Jade Shadow's was a good quest, it just needed to cook slightly longer. And, until we get more Umbra x Stalker from DE (bros b4 all), I'll be on AO3 in 3 (maybe 4) tags.

Honest Thoughts: Justice League Unlimited (Waid/Mora)

I will make a write-up for these first issues probably next week after my Finals are over so expect that soon.

For now, I have read JLU on its release today and I have thoughts on it. This became my most anticipated book this month since Waid and Mora are working on this book together as I have enjoyed WF and Absolute Power, so naturally I wanted to read this. There is also the fact that it's named after one of my favorite animated series: DCAU's Justice League Unlimited which other than the name, does showcase the whole DC Universe and the characters that live throughout it, both old and new.

Spoilers Ahead!

This first issue sorta follows Air Wave being a new member of the JL and having a tour of the Watchtower by the Flash and the heroes inhabiting there: the homebases for some of the already established groups like the JSA, Titans, and the Super-Family, the head of security, The Question, the Atom Project who are overseeing where the lost powers went to and finding a way to restore them from the events of Absolute Power, the Phantom Zone Prison Gate, and the Robin's Nest which is where Red Tornado's A.I. is at and is the central communicator and strategist on which hero gets sent to which mission based on their powerset.

Speaking of missions, the first one in this book has the Alpha Wave squad of the JL, consisting of Wonder Woman, Superman, Star Sapphire, Black Lightning, Firestorm, and Kid Flash go to Balhauzer, South Africa to stop a set of War Wheels set by the secret organization known as the Inferno to search for Iridium. And its here we see the importance of which heroes get sent, as WW and Supes focus on destroying the drones while the rest of the group helps the civilians during the attack. It's also showing the type of person Star Sapphire is here, as she is a new member here too, and she wants to save anyone from the chaos, with her and Black Lightning seeing a dying soldier, shouting his wife's name. It's thanks to Air Wave briefly joining the mission to look for the soldier's wife and Kid Flash bringing her to the soldier that Sapphire can heal him with their love for each other, which is some nice heartwarming stuff to see, especially as I first heard how Sapphire was originally a sort of antagonist in the GL books, or at least the Lanterns she is a part of which is weird since Compassion isn't a bad emotion at all and not associated with evil, but I could be misremembering things.

Meanwhile, Batman and Jaime Reyes aka Blue Beetle III head to Costa Rica to investigate a series of child kidnappings by a winged creature that carries kids into the forest. As the two head there, they soon see a collection of alien eggs as they are slowly surrounded by what seem to be Parademons as seen in the cover of the next issue, so that's a big problem.

The story then ends with the Alpha Wave squad stopping the War Wheels and Superman receiving a message from the Inferno that they will take over the Earth and they already have an agent in the League, as well as the twist that Air Wave being the agent sent by the Inferno and his true mission of killing the JL.

There's also a back issue that is the prologue of a storyline in the mainline Batman books that's a sequel to Hush simply called Hush 2, done by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, the same team behind the original Hush storyline. Also, why is there a sequel to Hush? I know it was a popular storyline, but why now, especially with the new characters and retcons made from that point? Guess that's just how the industry works sometimes.

Other than that, this first issue was pretty good and has me interested in continuing the book with whatever missions the JL will go on and which heroes gets to be selected and showcased and see the arc Air Wave is going through and if he wants to fulfill the mission set to him by the Inferno. Can't wait for issue #2 next month!

My EU write-up will be released later today probably and all that's left is the Absolute Universe and other third-brand company comics.

ATTENTION HEAVY BLACK PANTER WF AND TEEN WOLF THE MOVIE SPOILERS

had some free time this week and finally watched 2/3 movies I was going to watch for a while. First one was Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and obviously it just put me through an emotionalp grinder and left in tears cause omg T'Chala has a kid who has been raised abroad for YEARS and no one fucking told SHURI about him... and the second one was Teen Wolf aka old friend from teenage years which was and still is such a funny piece of shit, like yeap, wait a minute, I need to say it out loud - Jeff, you motherfucker, you did it, you've created a totally fucked up story with absolutely crazy plot, which must've been came to you in a drunken haze, I still can't believe it exists, and I sorta respect you for that - so getting back to the point of my ted talk that was an incredible creepy feeling when you find out that Derek also has a kid know... even more crazier is the fact that this kid should have been existed since like... season 3 or 4 but...c'mon... we all have watched the series and there was NO KID. Even crazier is the fact that we have literally zero information about his mom. So I guess I'm okay with the idea that Eli is a surrogacy or adopted son of sterek. This hc isn't as crazy as some canon aspects.

Excited for any superhero projects?

Hi Anon! I am, yes. Off the top of my head, in terms of things coming out in the future, I’m very much looking forward to the Thunderbolts movie. And you have good timing because I was just thinking about the Thunderbolts movie yesterday. What If? season 2 looks like it could be very fun, and I’m tentatively looking forward to Avengers 5 and 6. Depending on if they treat the characters well of course- I can’t take another mess like Endgame. Will fully admit that if they let me see Natasha, Wanda (main Wanda, none of this rumored multiverse nonsense), Pietro (ditto), Tony, Steve (an actual in-character version please), and/or Loki again, bring Jane back as a Valkyrie, or write Thor well I might be willing to forgive a lot though.

I’m also pretty excited for Armor Wars since I love Rhodey, though admittedly that excitement took a bit of a hit when I saw the relevant Secret Invasion spoilers. Blade as a character isn’t really my jam, but I am looking forward to seeing Dane Whitman again in that movie, especially as Black Knight, so I’m gonna list that too. And I’m very curious about the Agatha tv show rumors I’ve heard and if we might be getting Billy, potentially with Teddy, and if Wanda might be back.

…Nearly forgot Cap 4! Looking forward to that, with a few caveats. Those caveats being I need them to not villainize Sharon and take back the Power Broker thing, and I… truly have no idea how to feel about Sabra, given current events. I was excited for her inclusion, if dreading the discourse, now I don’t know how to feel about it because the likelihood of her inclusion being tone-deaf is even higher, and said discourse is going to be 100 times worse.

I also still have to watch the Loki finale episode and The Marvels. Very much looking forward to The Marvels; I have mixed feelings on the Loki finale since I’ve gotten a little spoiled for it, but I want to see how it ends just the same.

I’m super behind on Marvel movies, I kind of lost steam after Multiverse of Madness and haven’t seen the last 4 or 5 movies. Of those, I’m most looking forward to watching Wakanda Forever. (That would’ve been Love and Thunder because I adore both Jane and Thor but uh, 😬 I’ve heard about it and I had no faith in Taika Waititi to begin with, so…) After WF I think I’m most looking forward to watching GOTG 3 even though I’m fully aware I’m probably gonna cry my eyes out. Feeling a bit meh on Quantumania sadly, despite loving Cassie Lang in comics, based on what friends who’ve seen it have said, and fully expecting to have to grin and bear it through Love and Thunder.

In terms of unconfirmed projects, I need Eternals 2 yesterday. Also a Shang-Chi sequel and a second season of Moon Knight. The rumored Vision Quest show could be very good or alternately very bad, but I love Vision and he deserves a starring role, so I’m crossing my fingers it happens and isn’t just a retread of Tom King’s Vision because that comic was incredibly depressing. (Adore Viv Vision though, and would love a proper robotic Sparky the dog!) I also saw a rumor a bit ago that we might get a Clea backstory show, which I would be incredibly down for since comics Clea is one of my favorite underused characters, and has a really coolbackstory with a lot of potential for an interesting story. And I love the Young Avengers, so if we get to see them as an official team in the future I’ll be hyped for that.

For non-MCU things, I’m vaguely looking forward to Deadpool 3 despite not being a mutants/X-Men enthusiast because a. Deadpool is just fun, b. the Taylor Swift Dazzler rumors. For DC, The Superman: Legacy casting has me really really excited. I love Superman and it seems like we might actually get a good take on him this time! In terms of things farther down the DC pipeline, I’m a big Supergirl fan so naturally I’m hyped for the planned Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, despite being halfway through that comic and still unsure if I like or not. And I love Damian Wayne so cautiously excited for the rumored Batman movie featuring Bruce and Dami.

Alright I am back to talk about my boy Peet again, specifically how he was introduced in episode 2 of the Wingfeather TV show. He technically appears in episode 1, but it’s only for a few seconds (and I’ve written a different post about that here).

What I want to talk about is how his character is formerly introduced to the audience in episode 2, “The Mysterious Map”. Peet is in this episode for all of about two minutes but man did they pack a LOT into those two minutes. I’ve said before that every second he’s on screen in the first two episodes of the show is telling us something about him, so let’s take a look, shall we? (there shouldn’t be any spoilers for the books except maybe little teeny tiny ones, I tried really hard to make this accessible to new fans.)

We first properly meet Peet (and learn his name, if you’re new) when Janner goes into Glipwood Forest to retrieve Sara’s zibzy ball. Just as he finds the ball, a mysterious silhouette drops down behind him.

Now, the lighting here is really interesting, because while Peet is in shadow and we can’t see him, there’s still a sunbeam shining down on him. So while his entrance initially seems sinister the lighting is telling us otherwise. This is very much a hero pose that Peet is doing here, and, interestingly enough, he’s also bowing, which he does a couple times in the very short bit he’s on screen, which means it’s a significant detail.

You can see it even more clearly in this shot- the bowing and the sunlight streaming down on him. The imagery is telling us very clearly “this man is good, he can be trusted” (maybe even hinting that he has a noble heart, which anyone who knows the story knows is true). It’s giving us a positive impression of Peet before we know anything about him, even while Janner is still nervous. It’s telling us that while Glipwood Forest is dangerous, this man is not- at least, not to our heroes.

And then we cut to THIS and first of all, have you ever seen a softer, kinder expression on anyone? Second, he’s still in the light- actually, that’s a theme with Peet in this episode; except for the first couple shots he’s in he stays solidly in the light almost the whole time. It’s even giving him a bit of a halo effect here, which is more imagery associated with good, noble characters. He is good and the story wants you to know that- needs you to know it, because they don’t have a lot of time here and we won’t learn much about who Peet is and his motives until the end of season 1 (if they follow the book’s framework there, which I’m assuming they would since there’s no reason not to).

In a sadder frame of analysis, it’s also pretty easy to see that Peet is… not doing great. We don’t know much about him at this point, except that he wears socks on his hands and does amazing acrobatics, but when we first meet him here you get a better sense of his mental state. Not only does he have trouble talking to Janner and act confused (“Oh, hey Peet, what are you doing here?” “Where? Oh! Here. Me.”) he’s also got bags under his eyes (to carry all the trauma), his hair and general appearance is unkempt, and if you look closely you can see what are either splotches of dirt, bruises or scars on his arms and legs which just. makes me worry about him even more.

The way he talks to Janner is also important. He doesn’t say much, but his voice is very soft, he seems to be whispering at first, like he’s afraid of scaring Janner away (;-;) and he only talks a little louder after Janner asks him a question. The way he’s framed in the shots of this scene, how he talks and how soft and gentle his expressions are all speak to the fact that he is kind and good. At the same time we find out about his mental confusion when Janner asks him what he’s doing in the forest and he doesn’t know how to answer the question.

So we have a mentally unwell, kind, noble, sort of weird fellow, who for some reason appears to Janner in the woods. We don’t know why exactly he jumped down from the tree to talk to Janner, because he’s interrupted before he can explain what he’s doing there, but knowing what we do from the books an educated guess can be made that he was keeping an eye on Janner and the other Igiby kids from the woods (he was watching their zibzy game and you can’t convince me otherwise) and when Janner ventured in and seemed frightened, Peet jumped down to make sure he was alright.

So that’s one micro scene. It’s showing us Peet’s caring side, that he might be weird and wear socks on his hands but he’s also kind and gentle to scared children lost in the woods.

The second tiny scene shows us the other side of him.

So Janner’s kind of been being harassed by this little critter (I think it’s a thwapperfly) since he entered the forest. It flies over and dive bombs him while he’s talking to Peet and even right here you can see how Peet’s expression changes. Before he was all softness, but now you can see his face turn more serious. (He’s also still in the light here, though partially shadowed)

(Wait wait, and Janner in that shot and this next one is in the light and oh no, oh gosh, Janner’s practically glowing in the screenshot below and there’s a sort of subtle divide between him and Peet in the lighting which is showing us that Janner is Peet’s light, Janner is literally bringing him into the light without even realizing it just by existing- which is representing what all the kids have a hand in doing for Peet which is bringing him out of darkness and into the light and hope and oh jeeze, oh gosh, I need a minute-)

Peet tenses, and it’s hard to see here but his whole expression changes, hardens. Because now Janner is afraid and Peet can’t let that stand. You can watch him track the thwapperfly’s movement like he’s zeroing in on a threat (because he is).

The thwapperfly circles back around for another attack and Peet’s reaction is immediate and instantaneous. He places himself between Janner and the danger:

Notice how fierce he suddenly is compared to how he was a moment ago when it was just him and Janner. This is Peet in protect mode and it’s showing us a lot of things. One is that he is 100% ready to throw down at any moment to protect Janner and the other Igiby kids- even if the threat is insignificant! Because I really doubt a thwapperfly could badly hurt Janner but that doesn’t matter to Peet because Janner is scared, and Peet cares more about making this kid feel safe than if the threat is actually dangerous or not. We don’t know why yet but he is.

Second, Peet is a very effective fighter! He not only jumps in front of Janner with lighting fast reflexes, he bats the thwapperfly away the second it gets close, and he does it in a practiced, easy way that tells you he’s used to defending himself (or others). He never hesitates for a second during any of this, just does it. It’s the sanest and most purposeful thing we’ve seen him do and he does it to protect our main character.

(Wait, oh, wait, hang on, another thing- Janner’s in the dark now and Peet is leaning into the light. Peet knows what’s going on here, he knows why he’s protecting Janner, but Janner has no idea! Janner is in the dark about what’s happening! That’s so clever I’m just-)

And then Peet catches Sara’s zibzy ball out of midair and skips away cackling delightedly.

Also note that this is one of the times we see him walking out of the light, though interestingly he’s still not shadowed significantly. And it’s the moment where he slips from protect back into the silly Sockman. (from his true self and into what he’s been forced to become)

I’m almost at tumblr’s image limit and I still have a ways to go with this analysis, so I’m going to stop there for the moment to continue this in a second post. Feel free to comment with your thoughts! I’m having a lot of fun with this :D

hex finale spoilers under the cut

i won't lie... the fact that neci disappeared into thin air in the hex quest and doesn't even show up for the finale pisses me off... feels like they spent a lot of time showing her off pre-update only for her to get just a handful of speaking lines and a tremendously underwhelming "boss" "fight" before getting shelved, potentially never to be seen again

at this rate i don't even know if i would WANT them to bring her back because if they just turn her into a mouthpiece for a male antagonist they like more, a la vala & parvos... i'm going to be more pissed

i'm pretty tired of the trend of DE introducing female antagonists just to immediately push them out of the spotlight in favor of more men! it happened with vala in the sisters of parvos update, it happened with fucking PRAGHASA getting upstaged by ballas and erra the new war to the point where she didn't even get ANY SPEAKING LINES in-game, and now neci has been completely replaced by viktor and for what fucking reason!! it happens with an alarming number of the women in general in this game!! let's not forget about jade!!

i don't even know what the point in the drifter refusing to kill neci because "it's not really her, it's the mitw" was if they were never going to follow through with that to begin with. was really hoping to see her freed from mitw's influence in the finale but she's not even MENTIONED save for the email you get at the end that's just like "looks like neci is gone! anyway," and then you start getting transmissions from viktor who acts like neci never existed but has inexplicably adopted her habit of calling the hex "slugs." like okay can you make the fact that you're replacing her a little less blatant

so like... what... a high-ranking member of the scaldra vanishes into thin air without a trace, along with a captive of extreme interest that neci and viktor are implied to have known to be a TIME TRAVELER, and nobody questions it? maybe scaldra at large doesn't give a shit but viktor doesn't find it suspicious at all? doesn't try pinning neci's "death" and the escape of one of their captives on the hex somehow, even though his whole thing is posing himself as a righteous patriot and the hex as terrorists?

WHERE is the original neci? is mitw just dragging her body around now even though it's capable of duplicating others' appearances at will and has no apparent need for a physical vessel? has it fully consumed her? is she still alive at all? is she going to be dumped in the future somewhere, or is "she" going to be following albrecht wherever HE went, or is she just fucking gone? we don't know and may not get closure about this until YEARS from now, if ever because DE could not be fucked to follow up on a plot thread they literally JUST put down IN THE INTRODUCTORY HEX QUEST, and their track record with giving a fuck about their female characters is so ABYSMALLY bad that frankly i am already anticipating she will never be meaningfully brought up again
