It’s May! How did that happen already? This month we added another Yoga in the Park class. We’re still practicing by Kaw River Saturdays at 1p. We’re also practicing at West Middle School behind the tennis courts and next to Sunset Elementary on Wednesdays at 6p. Both locations are lovely and have peaceful, grounding energy. Spring is a tough season for mental health, so I especially wanted to teach in quiet places with strong energy. This week we’re due some rain, but instead of canceling we’ll move classes online. You can find the Zoom login info on the website. I’m so excited about this Ah-ha moment I had, because no matter where you are, you get to join us for this indoor version of Yoga in the Park. I will announce it as a Pop-Up class here, on our FB page, on Tumblr, Twitter and in the newsletter as soon as I know. You can be on our text list to get notifications right to your phone and request a Pop-Up Yoga class whenever you’d like. 🧘🏽🧘🏼‍♂️🧘🏽‍♀️ Hanumanasana! All last spring into fall Cathy worked on splits., a pose about the great leap of faith by Hanuman. Cathy had a goal of the full splits by a significant birthday. Her leap being both physical and an emotional leap into a new decade of her life. What do you want to work on this spring? I got a couple of ideas. Chatarunga Dandasana? From Phalakasana? (Lower from plank to hold our weight off the ground in low plank) We’ve been working on strengthening, especially in Joint Freeing Yoga on Mondays. What do you need to strengthen? What do you want to work on? Just a reminder, Big Stretches tonight at 8p on Zoom is going to open and lengthen those muscles we’ve been building. It’s spring, so we’re twisted deeply. Many of our big stretches will help you find ease in your twists. Also, remember our very first Yoga in the Park in #lawrenceks meets this Sunday at 2p. We like the field between West Middle School and Sunset Elementary School. Don’t forget your sunscreen and water! Imagine sun-kissed poses with a gentle breeze in your hair. It’s going to be a lovely all-level practice. I will always guide you to listen to who you are mind/body/spirit. I will always offer you variations and alternate poses to make our time together your practice. 🧘🏽‍♀️🧘🏼‍♂️🧘🏽 Yoga in the Park! Xander loves a good romp in the park. He is always up for a romp or just lying in side-lying savasana. In honor of Xander’s complete willingness to practice no matter what, let’s do a Pop-Uo this weekend. Unfortunately I can’t figure out how to stream from the park, so this will only be an in-person class. Xander will be there-probably watching from the car, but you can show up a little early and meet him while he gets some sniffs in and a little trot around the field at West Middle School. You can park at the parking lot between West and Sunset Elementary. It’s going to be a gorgeous day. You’ll ease tight and tense muscles, strengthen your core and crease your mental health. The sun is the best way for your body to synthesize vitamin d, which is essential for brain health. Sweet dog kisses don’t hurt either! 💋 Even though it’s super close, I will have my car there to collect any donations you have. Yoga warm-up glow with Xander. It was iffy all day, but the rain held off and we got to practice at West Middle School for Yoga in the Park. Xander, @slimzadie and I walked in the field first and then Xander and I did a little warm-up practice. I finally got to see @sarahscoular in person, which had been weeks. Sometimes, just having one-on-one yoga when no one else shows up can be demoralizing. This whole practice was a treat. The warm weather made us feel like rubber bands, super bendy and relaxed. Life is changing. Again. Your life may be feeling upside down and that’s perfectly understable. You’re not alone. The rules are changing again and that’s okay. The best thing I know to do to help life feel more manageable is to get on the mat. Then, to connect with nature. When you can do the two things together, your world shifts. The other thing I know to be an absolute truth is that doing those things once in awhile feels good. Doing them often shifts your mental health, transforms your body and makes your life feel easier. Hard stuff and tough times will still happen, you’ll just be better able to deal with them. You’ll silently say to yourself “Shit, that sucks. I got this. “ Whether you’re near or far, there are lots of opportunities to practice with us this week. The sun is out, so Yoga in the Park goes back outdoors in #lawrenceks. Feel sun and breeze on your skin, hear the birds and the wind as you forward fold, twist and stand strong. Tonight at 6p on the field btwn West and Sunset schools. Saturday, 1p at Burcham Park. My yoga view last Wednesday. It’s soggy today, though, so meet us online for a Pop-Up Yoga practice. Join us at 6p central time on Zoom. You’ll get centered and just exhale. You’ll lengthen your hamstrings and quadriceps for a longer, leaner look and feel. You’ll strengthen the pelvic floor and open your heart space while you work on moving towards the splits.
