[ad_1] Harleen Deol and Pratika Rawal against West Indies in the 2nd ODI (PC: BCCI Women/X) The Indian women’s team secured the three-match ODI series against the West Indies with a dominant 115-run victory in the second game at Vadodara. India’s batters were in roaring form, posting their joint-highest total in ODIs. Harleen Deol smashed her maiden century, supported by fifties from Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal and Jemimah Rodrigues. Despite Hayley Matthews’ brilliant century for West Indies, the visitors fell well short, losing with 3.4 overs to spare. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat, fielding an unchanged XI from the previous game. The opening pair of Smriti and Pratika once again gave India a solid start with a stand of 110 runs. Smriti was dismissed after scoring 53 off 47 balls, following a mix-up that resulted in an unfortunate run-out. Pratika tried to sacrifice her wicket for her senior partner but was caught short. Harleen joined Pratika at the crease, and the duo added 62 for the second wicket. Pratika, playing her second ODI, looked confident, and scored 76 off 86 balls before falling to a soft dismissal, off the bowling of Zaida James. Skipper Harmanpreet couldnot build on the strong platform, departing for 22. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here India vs West Indies, 2nd ODI (PC: BCCI Women/X) The turning point came when Harleen and Jemimah shared a 116-run partnership off just 71 balls. Harleen’s maiden international century was a special moment, particularly after her comeback from a long injury break. She was eventually dismissed for 115. Jemimah reached her half-century in just 34 balls but could not convert it into a bigger score, getting out for 52. In the final overs, Richa Ghosh’s quick-fire 13 off six balls powered India to a record total of 358/5 in 50 overs. This score was India’s joint-highest in women’s ODIs and the highest ever against the West Indies. For the visitors, four bowlers claimed one wicket each, with Karishma Ramharack being the most economical (4.60). Chasing 359, West Indies stumbled early, losing three wickets for just 40 runs in 11 overs. Deandra Dottin failed again, leaving the burden on Shemaine Campbelle and skipper Matthews. They put up a 112-run partnership, with Matthews standing tall as she notched her seventh ODI century. However, her innings ended on 106, becoming Pratika’s maiden international wicket. Jemimah’s stunning catch at deep mid-wicket sealed Matthews’ fate. The rest of the batting collapsed, and West Indies were bowled out for 243 in 46.2 overs. Priya Mishra led India’s bowling with three wickets, while Deepti Sharma, Titas Sadhu, and Pratika claimed two each. With this win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Brief scores: India 358/5 in 50 overs (Harleen Deol 115, Afy Fletcher 1/38) beat West Indies 243 in 46.2 overs (Hayley Matthews 106, Priya Mishra 3/49) by 115 runs. India 358 for 5 (Deol 115, Rawal 76, Mandhana 53, Rodrigues 52) beat West Indies 238 (Matthews 106, Campbelle 38, Mishra 3-49, Rawal 2-37, Deepti 2-40, Sadhu 2-42) by 115 runsThe game witnessed two majestic hundreds, from Harleen Deol and Hayley Matthews. Where Deol had support of three other half-centurions in the Indian innings, Matthews had none. And that in a monumental chase of 359 was simply not good enough. The end result was another one-sided fare that gave India the ODI series with one match remaining, but it was also one where West Indies showed a lot more fight than they did two nights ago. They nearly batted out the 50 overs to take away something from a contest they never looked like bossing at any point.West Indies' response to India's 358 for 5 - their joint-highest ODI total - was circumspect. They batted out three maidens in the first seven overs, two of those to Renuka Singh, who had wrecked their top order with in-swing to finish with a five-for in the first ODI. It underlined West Indies' approach for large parts of their innings - survival over flamboyance that they're known for.As the innings progressed, it became evident how big the gulf was between Matthews and the rest of their batters, who hardly seemed to trust their defense and bat long enough against an Indian attack that boasted of some variety that will give them a welcome headache as they go forward in a World Cup year. Only Deandra Dottin can claim to have received a pearler that she had no answers to as Renuka ripped past her inside edge to flatten the stumps with a superb in-ducker.Mathews aside, the only other semblance of a fight from the West Indies came from wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbelle, who made 38 in a fifth-wicket stand that was worth 112. Matthews was brutal in her onslaught against India's spinners, especially legspinner Priya Mishra whom she read from the hand and off the pitch. Against pace, she was quick to pounce on anything short or wide. Yet, it wasn't until she had crossed 70 that she began to show off her full range of strokes, eventually getting to her seventh ODI hundred off 99 balls. But Matthews' century only served to merely reduce the margin of defeat. The story of the day, though, was Deol. Having been on crutches, recovering from a knee injury until five months ago, she repaid the faith the team management had in her by hitting a maiden international hundred from No.3. Dropped on 20 by Dottin at square leg, Deol made them pay. She built slowly to a half-century, reaching there in 62 balls, but shifted gears seamlessly in the end overs to raise her century off 98 balls. In Jemimah Rodrigues, she found an able ally as the pair put on a quick-fire 116-run stand off just 71 deliveries for the fourth wicket in a partnership where they attempted a shot every ball. Rodrigues was outstanding against spin, lofting inside-out over cover, paddling fired-in deliveries past short fine leg, or rocking back to pull. Along the way, she showed her versatility to accelerate as comfortably as she had built the innings. The reward was a half-century off 34 deliveries, before she was out attempting to hit out a waist-high full toss.Deol fed off that energy, in addition to the confidence from spending time at the crease. In all, India scored 184 in the last 20 overs, compared to the 160 they hit two nights ago. That they achieved this with Richa Ghosh contributing just an unbeaten 13 should give them much encouragement.Deol's knock was preceded by a second straight century opening stand from Smriti Mandhana and rookie Pratika Rawal, who looked anything like the nervous version from her debut on Sunday. She came out looking to score quickly. There wasn't much swing on offer, and Rawal impressed with her intent and strokeplay to set the base of India's innings after they elected to bat.At the other end, Mandhana, who became the highest run-getter in women's ODI this year, simply carried on from where she left off in the series opener. She displayed more than just traces of brute force in muscling spinners. Rawal was comfortably outscoring Mandhana until the eighth over, but it didn't take long for the India vice-captain to catch up, before overtaking her to raise a 29th half-century and her second straight of the series off just 44 balls. One ball later, the opening pair raised their century stand.Rawal soon caught up to get to her maiden half-century but missed out on a great chance of converting it to a maiden international hundred, when she was out to a soft dismissal on 76. But in taking two wickets and sending down a few tight overs, and taking an excellent catch inside the ring, Rawal had a day neither she nor the team management will forget in a hurry, not even after having had a role in running out Mandhana, who instead of fuming gave her a pat of encouragement as she walked back.

Most Runs in the World Cup
Tumblr media
For a cricketer, there can’t be a bigger moment than representing his team in the prestigious World Cup event. The top players across the world clash against each other in an event that attracts a huge number of spectators.
The cricket’s first World Cup was held back in 1975 in England. West Indies were the most dominant side in those years. They won consecutive titles in 1975 and 1979 before India broke their quest for a hat-trick of wins by beating them in the 1983 World Cup final.
They etched their names in the history books by breaking numerous records on the biggest stage. Two records that always come to mind whenever you talk about the World Cup are indeed the highest run-scorer and highest wicket-taker.
Who has scored the most runs in World Cup history?
Indian legendary batter, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the most runs in 50-over World Cup history. Tendulkar has 2278 runs in 45 matches at an average of 56.95, including six hundreds.
Tendulkar has, in fact, played the second most number of matches (45) in World Cup history, only behind Ricky Ponting (46). The master blaster has an outstanding record in the ODI World Cup. He made his first appearance in the 1992 World Cup, smashing three fifties in that edition. In 8 matches, Tendulkar amassed 283 runs at an average of 47.17.
In the next edition in 1996, he took the world by storm as he smacked 523 runs in seven matches at a stellar average of 87.17. The little master hammered two fifties and three hundred in that particular edition.
His next best World Cup edition came in the 2003 edition. Tendulkar finished with the most runs, amassing 673 runs in 11 matches at an average of 61.18. India looked like a hot favorite to win the trophy but went down to Australia in the final.
Sachin Tendulkar’s quest to win a World Cup ended in the 2011 edition. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India lifted the 2011 World Cup trophy after beating Sri Lanka in the final. Sachin Tendulkar scored the second most runs in that World Cup edition, amassing 482 runs, including two hundred and as many fifties.
Second on the list of most runs in World Cup history is India’s run-machine Virat Kohli. The former Indian captain has played 37 matches in the World Cup, smashing 1795 runs at an average of 59.83.

Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera fifties power SL to series win
West Indies had done well to recover from a poor start and make 162, but it wasn't nearly enough

Kusal Mendis raised a crucial fifty  •  Getty Images
Sri Lanka 166 for 1 (Kusal Mendis 68*, Kusal Perera 55*) beat West Indies 162 for 8 (Powell 37, Motie 32, Theekshana 2-19) by nine wickets
Pathum Nissanka sent Sri Lanka's chase screaming out of the blocks, before Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera put on a clinical and unbeaten 106-run stand for the second wicket. For a team that had never before beaten West Indies in a T20I series, this chase was almost too effortless to believe. Each of the top three produced sparkling innings, as the hosts galloped to the target of 163 with 12 balls remaining, in front of a packed Poya-day crowd in Dambulla.
West Indies had earlier done well to get to 162 themselves, though they largely have a late assault from Gudakesh Motie - who bludgeoned 32 off 15 - for getting to what was perhaps a higher-than-par score on a spin-friendly track.
Though Dunith Wellalage went for runs, Sri Lanka's remaining spinners kept a lid on the scoring. This too, was a key difference between the teams.
Kusal Mendis went on to register the game's highest score, with 68 not out off 50. Perera crashed 55 off 36. Nissanka had played the most aggressive innings, plundering 39 off 22.
The 2-1 result is a further sign of resurgence from Sri Lanka, in the format in which they have arguably struggled the most in the last two years. They have this year won five Test matches, and had in July beaten India in a bilateral ODI series as well. This win also sees new coach Sanath Jayasuriya's stock rise further.
Sri Lanka attack early
West Indies bolstered their spin atttack by bringing Fabian Allen into the side for this match, but Nissanka ensured Sri Lanka's batters established their dominance early. He cracked three fours off the first over, bowled by Allen, before launching seamer Alzrri Joseph for two sixes and a four next over - the runs coming all around the ground, though he did favour the square region on the offside. By the time Nissanka was bowled by a Motie slider after 5.2 overs, Sri Lanka had already sped to 60.

[ad_1] India may not have had too much luck in winning ICC tournaments since 2013 but they have been a formidable side to face in bilateral series across formats in this period. Since they won the 2013 Champions Trophy, India have lost an ODI bilateral series, home or away, 13 times. They have lost just eight T20I series as well in Test cricket, apart from recording regular victories over sides like West Indies, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka home and away, they broke a glass ceiling by beating Australia at their home and then went on to repeat that feat despite facing seemingly insurmountable odds. They also drew a Test series in England, one that most commentators agree they would've won had the final Test not been postponed and had the final day of the first Test not been washed out. Most of the Indian players in the white ball teams would be playing in South Africa for the first time in their careers (PTI) Names like Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been the driving forces for India in this period, as were MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh to a certain extent, with the latter three retiring from the sport in this period. Among those still active in these names, Dhawan, Pujara and Rahane will be absent when India go tour South Africa starting on December 10. However, Kohli, Rohit and Bumrah will be there only for the Test series that starts on December 26 and it will be pretty much a new guard for India when they play the three ODIs and T20Is before that. Stay tuned with breaking news on HT Channel on Facebook. Join Now High standards to matchIt might be slightly inaccurate to consider the players who will feature in the white ball series as complete freshers but the fact remains that this will be the first time that most of them will be facing South Africa at their home, which is one of the great challenges in international cricket regardless of the format. There were doubts over whether South Africa are as competitive as they were in the previous years but Temba Bavuma's side put those thoughts to rest with the kind of performances they put in during the 2023 World Cup. In the T20I series, South Africa have largely gone with quite a few experienced candidates while India have retained much of the young side that played Australia recently in a five-match series. It means that Shubman Gill, himself playing in South Africa for the first time, could be the most experienced campaigner in their top order. Captain Suryakumar Yadav himself has just played one ODI in South Africa in his career and never faced them at their home in a T20, the format in which he is considered the best in the world. Rinku Singh's rising reputation as one of the most efficient finishers in the game will be put to test. The bowling lineup has some experience in the form of Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep in particular was one of the architects of India's 5-1 victory in the 2018 series in South Africa, having taken 17 wickets and finished as the highest wicket-taker. It never really looked like India are devoid of their biggest stars in the series against Australia, although the fact remains that the opposition themselves had rested a number of their main players after the succesful World Cup campaign. With there still be uncertainty around whether the likes of Kohli or Rohit could play in the T20 World Cup next year, most players in the Indian squad for the South Africa tour can safely consider themselves to be contenders for a spot in the side that travels to the West Indies for the tournament. They have all proven themselves in the IPL and in the chances they have got to play for India but it won't be too much of a stretch to say that this upcoming tour could be their biggest litmus test. Making history at the World Cup, Rohit Sharma is the only Indian to ever pull off this unusual feat
Rohit Sharma struck 50 or more ODI sixes in a calendar year, making him the first player from India and third overall.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, is playing brilliantly in the current ODI World Cup. On Sunday in Dharamsala, during India’s game against New Zealand, the seasoned opening batsman accomplished an uncommon achievement.
Tumblr media
After hitting 50 or more ODI sixes in a calendar year, Rohit became the first player from India and the third overall. Only AB de Villiers of South Africa and legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle have hit or more maximums in a calendar year before Rohit. After smashing New Zealand pacer Matt Henry for a six in the second over of India’s 274-run chase, Rohit accomplished the feat.
Batters with 50 ODI sixes in a calendar year
58 – AB de Villiers (2015) 56 – Chris Gayle (2019) 53 – Rohit Sharma (2023)
Rohit scored a blistering 46 runs in the 12th over, but Lockie Ferguson removed him with India needing to reach a target of 274 runs.
“Very good tournament beginning. Half the job is done. It’s crucial to maintain balance. To avoid planning too far ahead. It’s critical to remain in the now. Shami seized the chance wholeheartedly. He is a skilled bowler and has expertise in these circumstances. We were looking at more than 300 at one point. We are proud of our back end bowlers. I’m having fun with my batting. Both are different personalities but we (Him and Gill) compliment each other.
Glad we came out on top. Very little to say. This is what Kohli has done for us for a very long time. He believed he could complete the task. We lost a couple of wickets in the middle, but Jadeja and Kohli got us back,” Rohit stated following the game. Earlier, in Sunday’s top-of-the-table match at Dharamsala, Daryl Mitchell struck a brilliant century to lead New Zealand to 273 all out against India. Following their invitation to bat first, New Zealand lost their opening pair early on, but Mitchell (130) and Rachin Ravindra (75) combined for 159 runs to turn the tide of the innings.
The two beat Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth’s 1987 record of 136 to create the highest stand between the two nations at a World Cup for any wicket.
In his maiden tournament debut, Mohammed Shami, a fast bowler, recorded figures of 5-54 to help India rally in the last ten overs.
Despite Ravindra’s departure in the 34th over, Mitchell continued to push for his sixth tonne in an ODI.

Former all-rounder's significant statement, saying - calling India underdogs is wrong, we have won three World Cups
Yuvraj Singh, the hero of the 2011 World Cup, believes that Team India will definitely qualify for the semi-finals of the upcoming World Cup. Yuvraj Singh, who reached the Vicks Chair Anthem program for the upcoming global tournament, said that it is wrong to call Team India underdogs because India has won three World Cups.
Tumblr media
Yuvraj Singh, the hero of the 2011 World Cup, believes that Team India will definitely qualify for the semi-finals of the upcoming World Cup. Yuvraj, who attended the Vicks Chair Anthem program for the upcoming global tournament, said that it is wrong to label Team India as underdogs; after all, we have won three World Cups. Sukant Saurabh had a special conversation with Yuvraj Singh about the upcoming World Cup, and here are the main points: Is there any particular area in the current Indian team that needs special attention? - I think our team had less game time; we haven't played many ODIs because T20 is more prevalent now. The good thing is that all the middle-order batsmen are in form. Surya Kumar Yadav is in form, Shreyas Iyer has returned to form, KL Rahul scored a century after recovering from an injury, Ishan Kishan has been performing consistently for a long time; this is a very positive sign. It's a headache for the captain and coach to decide who to play and who to bench. Jasprit Bumrah has made a comeback at the right time. So, I think our combination is good now. However, we need to prepare a balanced combination in the first two or three matches. We also need to see if we'll play an extra spinner or a fast bowler based on the pitch conditions. In the last three ODIs we played against Australia, all the pitches were flat. Will we see similar pitches in the World Cup? - I think we will see such pitches, and there will be high-scoring matches. Another thing is that grounds in India are relatively smaller. Now, with the new rule where five fielders are allowed inside the 30-yard circle and two new balls, it benefits the batsmen more. Certainly, all matches will be high-scoring, and in matches where there's a low score, I believe we have bowlers who can defend it. Since 2011, no country that has hosted the World Cup has become the champion. Can we continue what we started? - According to me, we shouldn't take that kind of pressure. If you want to win the World Cup, you have to defeat every team. You have to become the best team. If you look at the 1983 World Cup, we defeated the best team, West Indies. In 2011, if you see, we defeated the reigning champions, Australia. If you want to win this World Cup, you have to beat the best team. According to me, the semi-final will be a high-pressure game because this format is different. In that match, there will be pressure on a good team, and we have to win that pressure match. However, by the time we reach the semi-finals, we will have played 10-11 matches, so we will have enough game time. I have full confidence that Team India will qualify for the semi-finals. We haven't won an ICC trophy in the last 10 years. Our team is not becoming champions. What should Team India focus on in pressure matches? Read more : Yuzvendra Chahal Reacts to Being Left Out of the 2023 World Cup Squad - My view on this is entirely different. An underdog is someone who has never won a tournament and has lost in every pressure match. We are the team that has won three World Cups. We reached the final twice and lost once. Pakistan played exceptionally well that time, and there's no doubt about it. And when we lost to Australia in the Test Championship final this time, we had only four days of preparation after the IPL, whereas Australia had already played a Test match there. No one pays attention to these factors - how much time was available for preparation, how much game time the team had. There's no doubt that Australia played very well. I don't think we are underdogs. I'm not denying that we haven't won a major tournament in a long time, but no team has consistently performed like that. I understand that we are talking about Team India, but I believe our team has the capability to win big matches. In such global tournaments, how crucial are all-rounders in achieving victory? Who will be the X-factor for the team this time? - I believe that Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will make significant contributions to the team this time. Their performance will be crucial to our team's success." Read the full article

Cricket World Cup
The One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup, once known as the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, is the sport's premier international tournament. Every four years, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of the sport, hosts the match, which consists of early qualification periods and a finals tournament. The competition is one of the most watched sporting events in the world and is referred to by the ICC as the "flagship event of the international cricket id calendar.
Tumblr media
The first ODI cricket match had been played only four years before the first World Cup was held in England in June 1975. The qualification phase of the present organization selects which teams continue to the tournament phase, and it runs over the previous three years. Ten teams, including the host nation, which automatically is eligible compete for the championship over the course of around a month at locations in the host country. The format will be altered for the 2027 edition to enable an increased 14-team final competition.
(1975–1983) Prudential World Cups
England, the only country at the time with the resources to host an event of this number, hosted the first Cricket World Cup in 1975. On June 7, 1975, the race got underway.[20] The first three matches, named the State Cup after the sponsors National plc, were staged in England. The games were played in the usual daytime format with each team getting 60 six-ball overs. Players wore white cricket shirts and used red cricket balls.
The first tournament featured eight teams: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and the West Indies (then the six Test nations), as well as Sri Lanka and an all- East African team. South Africa, which was excluded from playing international cricket due to racism in was one visible exclusion. The West Indies won the competition by beat Australia by a score of 17 runs in the championship match at Lord's.
Different champions (1987–1996)
The 1987 event was staged outside of England for the first time and was jointly hosted by India and Pakistan. Due to the shorter daylight hours in the Indian subcontinent than in England's summer, the games were shortened from 60 to 50 overs each innings, the current standard.[28] Up until the 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand, Australia's 7-run victory against England in the championship match was the tightest margin of victory in the World Cup final.
Technological Advancements
In order to improve decision-making's impartiality and precision, cricket has also adopted technology. Hawk-Eye and Decision Review System (DRS) technology have given the game a new dimension while decreasing controversy and improving the accuracy of umpire judgments.
The Future of Cricket
Cricket is changing and is now faced with new opportunities and problems. One example of how cricket id is still evolving and expanding is the growth of women's cricket, the drive for sustainability in the game, and innovations like day-night test matches.

Top-Rated Live Sports Events on Indian TV: July 28 – August 4, 2023
Tumblr media
Cricket is the King!! Nothing new but when Indian Cricket team plays then the TVRs numbers go up exponentially. And when India played West Indies recently, even though aired on DD Network, the TVRs reigned supreme alongside the average viewing time as well. Fans spent more than 22 mins per session in each of the 3 ODIs and a T20 match. For those who are not sure about the #2 Sport on Indian TV, let me tell you that WWE has ruled the game for years and Sony Pictures Networks India has been using it very effectively for their network. With more than 26 mins average session time, it is great value for money. Disney+ Hotstar has been holding the top position for some time when it comes to Cricket programming. Now it has challengers so they are looking at smaller or newer T20 leagues to boost its programming. LPL, GT20 Canada and Sher-e-Punjab are the new additions to their portfolio. Although the viewing time is far lesser as compared to International Cricket but still it gives Star Sports some leverage to add programs to the top list. But recently concluded Ashes series and newbie The Hundred are clearly showing how top quality Cricket and classy production still draws more eyeballs than anything else. Viewing session of more than 22 & 26 mins respectively, both the series are comparable to Indian cricket on that count. Heartening to see Football fans have picked Old horse Durand Cup and new found love for FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ . Will soon share the full event standings of these two for more detailed conversation later. New born MLC and Zim Afro T10 leagues had a few takers but worse was the time spent by each viewer. Ofcourse MLC is targeted for US local market and non-prime time in India, it still had a good start but other #Cricket leagues will have to do some out of the box thinking to make their business model work. Lastly but lovingly, I must congratulate Pro Panja League for having a good start and made it to the top 6 events beating some other Cricket programs in the week. The session time may be short but that’s perhaps to do with the format of the sport but I am sure the organisers would look at the ways to improve on that count. I will posting updates on the “Top Sports Events (Live) on Indian TV” and will invite discussions with experts on their views about the same. #tv #viewers #sports #football #fifawwc #ashes2023 #hundred #indiancricket
