Jos is any day a better T20 batsman than VK. VK has got more records, but the impact Jos has is unparalleled
HAHAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm sorry but
HAHAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣
I'm curious, what exactly is considered "impact"? How about being the highest run-scorer of 2 T20 World Cups? How about being the player of the tournament in consecutive T20 World Cups? Virat did that. You know what else he did? India played 6 knockout matches between 2014 and 2024. Virat has made a half century or more than that in 5 out of those 6 matches. That's just shy of 400 runs in 6 matches. It makes his average in T20 WC knockout matches over 90. If that's not impactful, I don't know what is.
Is impact related to strike rate? Virat scored 70 off 29 against West Indies, 94 in some 50 odd balls against WI, and his century against Afghanistan came in 52 balls. The first knock has a strike rate of over 200. Virat chased down 48 off the last 3 overs against Pakistan at the MCG in 2022 and 39 off the last 3 overs against Australia at Mohali in 2016. The latter was a virtual quarter final, and Virat's knock guaranteed India's progress to the semi finals.
Is impact related to hitting sixes? Well, for all that Jos is a renowned six-hitter, it was Virat's six against Haris Rauf at the MCG was declared the shot of the century by ICC. An equation that read 28 off 8 became 16 off 6. It was Virat who hit the two sixes that were required to get it down till here.
Virat has time and again won matches out of nowhere for India. The Mohali 82 against Australia, the MCG 82 against Pakistan, the 72 in 2014 SFs vs South Africa, I can go on and on here-- Heck, Virat was most of the, if not the sole reason that India got as far as they did in the 2014, 2016 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup. He is a massively impactful player, who delivers whenever needed. Even yesterday's final, take Virat's 76 out of the equation and we had only a 100 on the board to defend. I doubt even Jasprit could have done much with that.
Virat ended his career in T20s as unquestionably the best T20 player of this generation. Nobody comes close to having the kind of impact he does on the game. He carried India in almost every single T20 World Cup he played, and nobody deserved to lift that trophy as much as he did.
I did not intend this as an insult to Jos. He is a great player, one of the very best to have played the game, but he's not better than Virat. Nope, sorry, he isn't. And it isn't limited to Jos either. There isn't any player in the world, not Rohit, not Warner, not Babar, not Maxwell, no nobody in this generation comes close to having the kind of class, poise and impact of Kohli in T20s.
People are allowed differing opinions - sure, the stats say Virat but in terms of coming in when the team needs and changing the game momentum Jos is one of the best at having an impact
Numbers aren’t always everything, I think is the point the original ask was making. And honestly, looking at the tournament that just concluded, VK really only made an impact in the final, whilst Jos was a lynchpin to a lot of England’s batting innings.
Not saying you’re wrong and - as I said - everyone has opinions and it’s great they’re different because it allows us to discuss thing :) But I think the original ask was talking more about match impact than stats. There is a reason he was RR’s impact batsman for the IPL this year.

Crick Picks Cricket Stories | Uncover Cricket’s Rich History & Legendary Stories
Cricket Stories and History by Crick Picks
Cricket is more than just a sport; it’s a legacy of remarkable stories, legendary players, and unforgettable matches. Over the years, cricket has woven itself into the fabric of many cultures, creating countless memorable moments that continue to inspire fans. At Crickpicks Cricket stories, we delve into these cricket stories and the game’s fascinating history to bring you closer to the players, matches, and turning points that shaped cricket into the game we love today.
The Evolution of Cricket: A Brief History
The origins of cricket can be traced back to the 16th century in England, where it started as a simple pastime among children before evolving into an internationally beloved sport. Cricket grew in popularity across England and later spread to other parts of the British Empire. By the late 18th century, it had gained enough traction to host competitive matches, and soon after, the first-ever international cricket match was held in 1844 between the United States and Canada.
The formation of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1909 laid the groundwork for structured international competition, and since then, cricket has grown to encompass multiple formats, including Test, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 (T20). Each format has contributed uniquely to cricket’s legacy, adding new layers of excitement and strategy. Crick Picks explores these pivotal moments and offers insights into how each format has shaped the game we know today.
Iconic Cricket Stories That Shaped the Game
Cricket’s history is filled with unforgettable stories. Here are some of the most iconic cricket tales that every fan should know:
1. The Ashes: England vs. Australia Rivalry
The story of "The Ashes" dates back to 1882 when Australia defeated England on English soil at The Oval, causing an uproar among English fans. A mock obituary appeared in the press, declaring that English cricket had died and “the body will be cremated, and the ashes taken to Australia.” The rivalry that ensued between England and Australia gave birth to the Ashes series, which remains one of the most thrilling and fiercely contested series in Cricket history and stories.

2. Sir Don Bradman’s Legendary Career
Sir Don Bradman, widely considered the greatest batsman of all time, left an indelible mark on cricket. His career batting average of 99.94 remains unmatched and is regarded as one of the sport’s greatest achievements. Bradman’s story is one of discipline, skill, and an uncanny ability to dominate bowlers. Crick Picks explores how Bradman’s journey inspired generations of cricketers and set standards that still challenge the best players today.
3. The Miracle of 1983: India’s World Cup Victory
India’s first World Cup win in 1983 changed cricket forever. Led by Kapil Dev, the Indian team’s triumph over the mighty West Indies at Lord’s inspired a new wave of cricket fans across India and cemented cricket as the country’s favorite sport. This victory is more than just a cricket story—it’s a moment of national pride and unity. Crick Picks revisits the key moments from that tournament and how it transformed the Indian cricket landscape.
4. South Africa’s Comeback to International Cricket
After years of isolation due to apartheid, South Africa returned to international cricket in 1991. This re-entry marked a new chapter for cricket, as South Africa quickly established itself as a powerhouse. Their emotional return led to memorable games and the emergence of players like Hansie Cronje and Jonty Rhodes. Crick Picks dives into the emotional and competitive aspects of South Africa’s re-emergence and their subsequent impact on world cricket.
5. Sachin Tendulkar: The Master Blaster’s Journey
Known as the "God of Cricket" in India, Sachin Tendulkar’s career spanned 24 years, filled with records, unmatched dedication, and unforgettable innings. His story is one of resilience, humility, and sheer talent. From his debut as a 16-year-old prodigy to his 100th international century, Crick Picks shares Tendulkar’s journey and examines his lasting impact on global cricket.
6. The Rise of T20 Cricket
The introduction of the T20 format in the early 2000s brought a new energy to the game, making it faster and more spectator-friendly. This format gave rise to leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL), where international stars play together, creating new opportunities for young players. T20 has revolutionized cricket, and Crick Picks covers the journey of this format, exploring how it has reshaped the sport and introduced it to a broader audience.
Legends of Cricket: Profiles of Iconic Players
Some players have left a legacy so profound that their stories continue to inspire. Here are a few legends whose stories are essential for any cricket fan:
Sir Vivian Richards: Known for his fearless batting and charismatic style, Sir Vivian Richards dominated bowlers worldwide and led the West Indies to success in the 1970s and 80s.
Imran Khan: The charismatic leader of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team, Imran Khan inspired his team to an improbable victory. His leadership and all-round skills made him a cricket legend and national hero.
Shane Warne: The Australian leg-spinner revolutionized spin bowling with his mesmerizing skills, ending his career as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. Warne’s story is one of talent, controversy, and undeniable impact.
Brian Lara: Known for his flamboyant style and record-breaking performances, Brian Lara set multiple records, including the highest individual score in Test cricket. His journey is a testament to the artistry of batting.
Memorable Matches: Games that Left a Mark
Cricket history has witnessed several thrilling matches, but a few stand out for their intensity and impact:
The Tied Test of 1960 (Australia vs. West Indies): This was the first-ever tied Test, played between Australia and West Indies at Brisbane. The match was a roller-coaster of emotions, with both teams battling till the last ball, ending in a historic tie that left fans spellbound.
1999 World Cup Semi-Final (Australia vs. South Africa): Known as one of the most dramatic matches in World Cup history, this game saw South Africa fall short in a tied result that sent Australia to the finals due to a net run rate advantage.
2001 Kolkata Test (India vs. Australia): After following on, India staged an incredible comeback, with VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid’s iconic partnership turning the game. This Test victory remains one of the most celebrated moments in Indian cricket history.
The 2019 World Cup Final (England vs. New Zealand): This match, played at Lord’s, ended in a tie, leading to a super over that was also tied. England was declared the winner based on the boundary count rule, sparking debate and excitement worldwide.
The Future of Cricket: New Stories in the Making
Cricket continues to evolve with new players, formats, and strategies. The growth of leagues, the popularity of T20s, and the expansion into non-traditional cricketing nations show that cricket’s story is far from over. Crick Picks is committed to covering emerging trends, young stars, and evolving dynamics to keep fans engaged with the latest developments in cricket’s ongoing story.

T20 World Cup: SA face WI in potential quarter-final; draw to play a big role in India vs NZ.
Tournament form guide: South Africa and West Indies lost both their warm-up games in the lead-up to the tournament, although South Africa's losses were more surprising. They were bowled out for 92 against New Zealand to lose by eight wickets and then couldn't get close to their target of 145 against India. West Indies' losses came against teams ranked much higher than them. They first lost to India by 20 runs and then to Australia by 35 runs, on both occasions struggling to chase down totals in the 140s.
News brief: South Africa finished as the runners-up in the 2023 T20 World Cup and will be looking to carry their form into this tournament after a 2-1 away series win against Pakistan. Despite a poor 7-14 win-loss record against West Indies, South Africa have won three of their last four T20Is against them. West Indies, too, came on the back of a 2-1 series win in Sri Lanka, although that was back in June. South Africa could go spin heavy by picking 18-year-old leg spinner Seshnie Naidu along with all rounders Chloe Tryon and Sune Luus. It's expected to be a hot afternoon in Dubai, with the temperature around 37°C at the time of the toss. It won't be much cooler even when the game ends.

The India National Cricket Team's first game in the Super 8 round of the 2024 T20 World Cup will be on Thursday at the Kensington Oval in Barbados against Afghanistan. Team India is ready to play. They are in first place in Group A with seven points, earned from three wins and one tie with Canada. On the other hand, Afghanistan won three of their four Group C games, including a big 84-run win over New Zealand. Their only loss was to co-hosts West Indies, which was a big disappointment. India national cricket team vs Afghanistan national cricket team timeline Australia and Bangladesh have joined both teams in Group 1 of the Super Eight stage. If Yashasvi Jaiswal is added, it could change how the batters play, which could mean that Kohli moves to the No. 3 spot. The pitches in the Caribbean might be better for spinners, which means that Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal could play essential parts. Conversely, Afghanistan has a strong group of spin bowlers led by Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman, who could make it hard for India's top-order batters. Meetings And Records From The Past In eight T20Is, India and Afghanistan have played each other. India has a strong record, winning seven of the eight games. They had played each other before, and India won the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games because it was seeded higher. This year, India won an exciting Super Over match, and the final at the Asian Games was called off because of rain. The greatest ODI innings the world never saw...
The Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells is a small, picturesque ground in the Kent County Cricket Club. It is 50 km away from London and has a seating capacity of only 4500 people.
It has hosted only one One Day International (ODI) cricket match ever - on 18th June, 1983, exactly 37 years and one day ago, between two minnows of world cricket - India and Zimbabwe, in the third ever Prudential World Cup.
Tumblr media
On that day, on this ground, a human being conjured a miracle. But very few people witnessed it. Because BBC did not broadcast it. The below is probably the only surviving publicly available record of it.
youtube
This voice belongs to Bob Nixon, a Zimbabwean dentist-commentator who worked for BBC Radio during the 1983 world cup. Below is a transcript of what he says.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, why did BBC not broadcast it? Why do we only have some 30-second clip of BBC Radio as evidence of the miracle? There's a little bit of a mystery there too.
The popular view is that BBC was on strike that day. But that's not true. In reality, there were four matches scheduled that day:
West Indies vs Australia; England vs Pakisthan;
India vs Zimbabwe; Sri Lanka vs New Zealand.
And BBC had only two channels - BBC 1 and BBC 2. Naturally, they chose to broadcast the first two matches. I don't blame them.
Tumblr media
I don't blame them because how were they to know that Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj would choose that day to write a piece of history.
Kapil Dev, the 24 year old, inexperienced Indian captain, won the toss against spirited newcomers Zimbabwe, who had beaten Australia just a few days back, and elected to bat first. Then he went to take a shower. Halfway through his shower, somebody called out for him saying India were 3 down. By the time he rushed out of the shower, India were 4 down! He walked to the ground, probably still not completely dry, next in at No. 6. Soon, another wicket fell. India were 17 for 5.
Zimbabwean opening bowlers, Peter Rawson and Kevin Curran, were wrecking havoc on the Indian batting. By the way, Kevin Curran is the father of current English cricketers, Tom Curran and Sam Curran.
Tumblr media
Kapil Dev, along with Roger Binny, Madan Lal and Syed Kirmani took India from 17/5 to 266/8. He hit 175 not out! 16 fours and 6 sixes, an exact century in boundaries!!
Tumblr media
One of the bowlers Kapil was harsh on was one Mr. Duncan Fletcher, who went on to coach the Indian National side from 2011-15. Anyways, who cares!
When Kapil hit 172, he crossed the then highest ODI total of 171 by Glen Turner of New Zealand. An year later, another superman, Sir Vivian Richards hits 189 not out against England under similar circumstances and breaks Kapil's record. But Kapil's 175 remained the highest score in World Cups for a long long time, until Gary Kirsten scores 188 not out vs UAE in 1996. The current world record in World Cups is with Martin Guptill for his 237 not out vs West Indies and with Rohit Sharma for his 264 vs SL for all matches.
Two very interesting incidents on the side:
1. A guy called Jeffery Richards bought a house outside Tunbridge Wells ground after the 18th June match. The previous owner, while selling his house, had put a card - "Kapil's six hit my roof." Every summer, a few Indians would come, visit the ground and a few would drift towards the house "that got hit by Kapil's six!"
2. One man had brought a video camera with him to the ground and shot the match. Years later, Kapil Dev tracked him down and apparently paid an undisclosed, hefty amount for the video. Knowing Kapil, I am sure he would have been generous with his offer.
Whatever, I still remember the pride I felt as a kid everytime Kapil Dev would walk in to bat, his record would flash on the TV screen and against H.S (Highest Score) would be 175*, the commentator would say - the highest ODI score by a batsman in World Cups!
Sunil Gavaskar says it best...

India vs West Indies, 1st T20I Highlight: Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik set up crushing 68-run win for India
Rohit Sharma stars as India take 1-0 lead in 1st India vs West Indies T20I 2022
Presumably, the Windies will be left harmed, frustrated, and disappointed, but it’s the manner in which they lost especially against spin and the margin of defeat that will rub salt into the wounds. They have been guilty of playing poorly against spin in the recent past and, afraid, that record doesn’t look like changing anytime soon.
India, though, will be pleased with their efforts in all departments. Almost an ideal game on a track that wasn’t really friendly and exactly well disposed of. Both teams will now head to Warner Park, Basseterre in St Kitts for the next two games.
“Play openly, no need to take any undue pressure”
Rohit SharmaTeam
India Captain
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma‘s words,
“We knew it’s gonna be slightly tough, the shot-making wasn’t easy at the start. The guys who are set need to carry on for longer and the way we finished off the first innings was a great effort. When we finished the first 10 overs, we didn’t think we could get to 190. It was a great effort from our boys and a great finish. There are three facets of the game which we are trying to improve. We gotta try and back the ideas about executing it with the bat. We want to try certain things and all in all I thought it was a great effort. Certain pitches will not allow you to do that and we need to assess how we go about it. It is all about backing your skills and strengths. I love playing here in West Indies. The Indian team always receives great support from the Indian crowd coming in from the USA and also the local crowd here, quite superb to get such support.”
Further hit man Rohit said, “We wanted to use some things in this match. Tried something different on how to end the innings in the first 6 overs and then the middle overs and the last. In three phases we had to improvise and see how we can get the best out of every player. We had given different roles to the players and they played them perfectly. It is not necessary that it will be successful in every match, but we have to keep trying something new with the bat every time. Overall, today we did a few things differently and I think we were able to achieve that.”
He also mentioned that there is a lot of talent in his team and the players just need to believe in their skills and the Indian team is getting very good support from the Windies.
Dinesh Karthik was named the Player of the Match for his 19-ball 41 in the first T20I against West Indies. After India won the contest by 68 runs, Karthik opened up on the role allotted to him by the team management. His finishing abilities he brings to the Indian team in the T20 format. The Tamil Nadu cricketer smashed West Indies bowlers all around the park, scoring a 19-ball 41 to propel India to 190 runs.
Dinesh Karthik was deservedly named the Player of the Match as he played a very important part in the team’s 68-run victory. When asked about the role allotted to him by the team management in the shortest format, he labelled it an ‘interesting role‘ that requires complete backing from the captain and the coach.
Dinesh Karthik | Player of the Match said, “It was sticky, not an easy wicket to bat on. Assessing the wicket is important It’s a very interesting role, you need the backing from the coach and the captain and that really helped. Important to assess the wicket and what kind of shots you need to play, the softness of the ball, and the wicket, and then you need to decide. These are a few things that come with a little bit of practice.“

West Indies Romp Home As Pollard Blasts Hat-Trick Man For Six Sixes In An Over
1st T20 International - Sri Lanka vs West Indies - Antigua
Kieron Pollard became only the third man to hit six sixes in an international over, as West Indies trounced Sri Lanka by four wickets with 41 balls to spare in the first Twenty20 International match played in Antigua yesterday.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chasing a modest target of 132 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, West Indies reached their target in the 14th over when Jason Holder clubbed his side's 13th six.
The carnage took place in the sixth over of a bizarre West Indies innings, bowled by off-spinner Akila Dananjaya, who in his previous over had been celebrating after taking a hat-trick.
Pollard went berserk, clobbering the bowler's first ball for six over long on and the next straight onto the sight screen, before powering a lofted straight hit over long off to a slightly widish delivery bowled by Akila. The rattled bowler was then pummelled over mid wicket off his fourth delivery before Pollard timed his fifth six over the bowler's head. Akila then opted to bowl his last delivery around the wicket to Pollard, who gleefully went on to flick his sixth consecutive six over the mid wicket boundary with ease.
Tumblr media
Pollard joined South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs who hit 36 runs in an over against the Netherlands in a 2007 World Cup ODI game  and India's Yuvraj Singh, who also achieved the feat in 2007, in a Twenty20 World Cup match against England.
"I felt I could hit six sixes after the third one," said 33-year-old Pollard who scored 38 off 11 balls.
"Once I had hit five sixes, I knew I had the bowler on the back foot. He was going around the wicket and it was difficult for him. I just told myself: 'Go for it'."
Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews praised his opposite number. "Pollard as we know is very destructive," Mathews said at the post-match presentation. "What I told Akila was to go for his wicket even if he gets hit for six sixes. If he miscued one, we could have got him out. Unfortunately it didn't happen."
Only eight men have hit six sixes in an over in all forms of cricket with fellow West Indian Sir Garfield Sobers the first to do so in an English county game in 1968.West Indies' run-chase was powered by openers Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons who bludgeoned 52 runs off the first 20 balls, as the two-time T20 World Cup winners looked on course. West Indies' Powerplay tally of 98 runs was also a new record.
Lewis set the tempo of the innings by blasting three consecutive sixes in Mathews’ opening over, before being caught in the deep off Dananjaya for a breezy 28.
The return of 41-year-old Chris Gayle for his first international appearance in two years turned out to be an anti-climax. He was out for a golden duck being adjudged lbw after a review, attempting a tentative flick to the leg side. Dananjaya completed his hat-trick by having Nicholas Pooran caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella.
From 52-3 West Indies slumped to 62-4 when leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Simmons for 26, trapping him leg before, before Pollard went berserk.
Tumblr media
Hasaranga survived the onslaught to finish with figures of 3-12 off his four overs while Dananjaya's four overs cost 62 runs, despite his hat-trick.
Sri Lanka, aiming to win a match for the first time in a year, made a below-par 131-9.The tourists were asked to bat by the 2012 and 2016 world champions, with Pathum Nissanka marking his Sri Lanka debut by top scoring with 39 off 34 balls including four fours and one of his team's three sixes.
The 22-year-old batsman shared a 51-run second wicket partnership with opener Dickwella, who made 33.However, Sri Lanka never got to grips with the slowness of the wicket and the accurate West Indies attack, which featured 39-year-old fast bowler Fidel Edwards making his return to the team for the first time since 2012.Left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy, playing just his third T20 International had the best figures of 2-25.Jason Holder finished with an economical 1-19, while there was also a wicket for 21-year-old debutant off-spinner Kevin Sinclair who opened the bowling and claimed the wicket of Danushka Gunathilaka.
The second and third games in the series also take place at the Coolidge Cricket Ground on March 5 and 7, to be followed by three one-day internationals and two Tests.
