Also, as a bonus, I joked that this was the most amount of clothing I had drawn Mari in to date, and dearest ThornQueen feared I was veering toward the straight and narrow. Being a teenager is hard. Being Adrien Agreste — a famous model, a local superhero, and secretly a werecat — is even harder.

I love shapeshifter AUs! Gabriel's a dick, no surprise there, making Adrien hide who he is and confining him to only transforming in his room, when he NEEDS to be able to run around and feel the wind in his fur. Luckily, while ADRIEN is confined, CHAT NOIR isn't.

And it turns out that he's not the only Werebeast in the area...

Not Your Secret To Keep by @kasienda

Adrien frowned. “I’m not worth getting hurt–” Nino’s fist tightened in anger. “You are! You’re worth it! And I-I really have to tell you something.” Adrien’s expression softened. “I just meant you could have called instead?” Nino shook his head. This was too much, too big. He needed to be here, so Adrien didn’t have to face it alone. “I really couldn’t have called. Not about this.” “So, what is it?” Nino licked his lips, searching for the right words, but there wasn’t really any way to soften this blow. And it was absolutely cruel that Nino had to be the one to deliver it. Gabriel or Ladybug should have held that responsibility, but if they couldn’t or wouldn’t step up, Nino would. Because Adrien needed to know.

Nino finds out that Adrien's being lied to about what happened with his father and immediately seeks to rectify the situation. He had an abusive father himself, so he knows how awful it would be to be lied to about an abuser actually being a good person.

Blanc Space by @11jj11

Nino awakes to find himself in a strange flooded world...

So this is an interesting concept. Nino wakes up to suddenly find himself in Chat Blanc's timeline, with no idea of what just happened aside from it probably being due to an akuma attack, as most strange happenings are. Of course, he meets Chat Blanc, though the cat doesn't know he's real.

I love how Nino realizes what's going on and empathizes with Chat. He needs company so badly.

When Friendships Are Real by im_up_to_shenanigans

A short series expounding on the impact Rocketear had on the friendship between Adrien and Nino. Because we deserved to see the fallout.

First fic: Glass Threads or Frost Work

A few weeks after Rocketear picks a fight with Chat Noir, Nino notices something is wrong with the cat hero. Meanwhile, Adrien has been pulling away at school. aka the post-Rocketear fic I wanted to see in canon.

I love this. Nino just can't understand why Adrien and Chat seem so distant. Add onto his guilt over his akumatization into Rocketear, and that he just can't understand why Chat hadn't fought back... he's in a lot of emotional turmoil. He values his friendships, and he wants to repair whatever's broken and help his friends, but without knowing what the problem is, he's stuck.

I really liked how this explored Nino's thoughts and feelings, his perspective. I adore character pieces like this!

The Joke's On Me by @kasienda

Adrien:I had to tell my father we’ve been dating. That we’re going to the gala together this Saturday. I’m sorry. I know you wanted to surprise everyone the day of. Please forgive me. Call me when you’re awake. Nino blinked at the text message and read it again. And then a third time, but the words didn't change. The implications were concerning in more than one way.

So this is a classic scenario. Adrien decides to fake-date Nino in order to get Lila off his back, but along the way, he and Nino develop genuine feelings for each other. Unfortunately, Gabriel refuses to just let the two lovebirds be.

If I hold you too close by @bbutterflies

Paris didn’t come to a screeching halt for akumas anymore. They were so commonplace, so frequent, no one stopped their lives unless they were in danger. They trusted the heroes to fix everything if something did go wrong, save them if they got hurt. Adrien was still fighting the urge to find Plagg and go running into battle. Plagg wasn’t here, though. — Post-season 5 where Adrien got sent to London sooner and gave up his Miraculous to keep Paris safe.

If you know this author, then you’ve probably already guessed that this is an Adrino fic (seriously if you like Adrino, check out bbutterflies fics, though honestly if you ARE an Adrino fan, you probably already have).

So in this scenario, Adrien was sent to London and didn’t get to return, so he gave Plagg the ring so he could find another Holder. In this case, Nino. After a few years, once he’s an adult, Adrien manages to come back from London, but he’s in ROUGH shape. He drinks a lot, he has a reputation for partying hard and causing disruptions, and is really depressed and hates himself, and hates Felinoir (Nino’s Black Cat form) even more, for having what he lost.

But even while Adrien’s pushing everyone away to protect himself, his old friends refuse to give up on him, even though he’s given up on himself.

While Adrien’s problems are the primary focus of the fic, they’re not the entire focus. Nino gets a POV, and he has personal issues and insecurities of his own. He has trouble holding down relationships, he doesn’t have a lot of close friends these days, and he’s struggling to keep up in school with all the akumas he’s had to fight. He and Ladybug are fine coworkers, but they aren’t much more than that - they aren’t friends like Chat Noir and Ladybug were.

Oh, also, Nino’s a transman. That’s also caused some issues in making and keeping friends.

It’s a beautiful story of one person hitting rock-bottom and gradually being pulled back out of it again, until they can stand on their own and push themselves up the rest of the way, and of a friend who discovers their childhood best friend (and crush) has changed enormously since they last saw them, and not in good ways - only to find that their friend is, at their core, still there. They just need help seeing it themselves.

Made Miracles series by InkyIbis

A rewrite of Miraculous Ladybug (specifically with the miraculouses lore) with endgame Adrino! It mostly builds off the beginning canon and loosely off the later seasons with a lot more consequences than what the show has for when a magical terrorist shows up out of the blue. In that way, each book is considered like a season with the chapters being the episodes.

First fic in the series: Awaken

The previously white butterfly, now oozing black and purple as a conduit of the butterfly miraculous powers, flutters softly within the silvered-gloved hand. It sits there for a long time. “Go, my akuma,” The soft sigh pushes the butterfly, the akuma, out towards the despair of a love not returned. The same ache within his chest. On a level so great that he’s willing to sacrifice the city to mend it. It’s okay if he’s the villain for now. He’ll force the miraculous of creation and destruction to be revealed, and once he gets his hands on them, none of this pain, none of his loss, will ever happen.

I put the first fic on my reclist for 2023, and now that the series is completed, I’m putting the whole thing on my reclist for 2024. If you want a rewrite of the series that gives Adrien top-billing, evens out Ladybug’s and Chat Noir’s power dynamic, is darker, and has Adrino as the main ship, then this series should be right up your alley.

Withered Wings by @11jj11

Nino wasn’t sure if anyone had ever willingly took the akuma butterfly before him, but with his mind completely open to this apparent son of Hawk Moth he knew that he couldn’t turn him away. Not someone that was so afraid, not someone who would be left at the mercy of Hawk Moth.

This fic is amazing! Just… some absolutely stellar Adrino, with some nice Alyanette on the side, AND it’s one of the best Enemies AU (well, sort of. Adrien’s on Hawkmoth’s side, but Nino isn’t, exactly), in the fandom! I love how much we get of Nino’s perspective, his determination to save this boy who’s been thrown into these battles, who clearly doesn’t want to hurt people but is compelled to do so, while balancing it with trying to prevent damage to anyone else as well. He has to be the one to look after Adrien, because no one else will do so.

I also love the focus Alya gets here, as Marinette’s partner. She does an amazing job in the role, with every Miraculous she gets, even though she isn’t a perfect wielder.

That’s something else, I like the bits of worldbuilding this adds in, with people who fully embody the aspect a kwami represents being able to transform more fully. That does not mean, however, that an imperfect match is a bad thing, the kwami and wielder can still be very strong together and get along well, even if they don’t perfectly align.

I adore how Nino had to balance his roles in this, helping Adrien without hurting others, even fighting back against the heroes as needed, as much as he didn’t want to. And how understanding people were when they found out the full story of what was going on. It’s a truly fantastic story that anyone who likes Enemies AU, Adrino, or just want to read a good Miraculous fic should check out.

I do want to warn that Gabriel and Nathalie are significantly OOC in this. Gabriel’s even more abusive and colder than he is in canon, and Nathalie is WAY worse. This fic started before season 5, so it wasn’t known what Nathalie’s red line would be. As a result, Adrien’s more downtrodden than he is in canon, since the consequences of disobedience are worse than being cut off from friends, or even being made to sit in a blank white room indefinitely.

Nino was sprawled on the floor of his room with Alya when his phone chimed, in the quiet of a premature autumnal sunset. It was one of those lazy evenings that had become rare lately. Contrary to popular belief, he and Alya could get studying done when in the same room, and he was elbows-deep in late assignments, which meant his phone was on Do Not Disturb, which meant the notification could only have come from one person. ADRIEN 🐈: cmoe ove rnow ADRIEN 🐈: like riggt now ADRIEN 🐈: plag NINO: that is literally incomprehensible NINO: wait is that you plagg ADRIEN 🐈: mov faster

So this is a “Adrien finds out that his father is Hawkmoth and consults with Nino about what to do” fic, with Nino throwing Hawkmoth off Adrien’s track, though inadvertently at his own expense. Love Nino’s perspective here, and I always enjoy a good Hawkmoth-takedown fic!

Shelltering Others by @rosie-b

When Ladybug wakes Nino up in the middle of the night to scold him for revealing his identity, he thinks his career as a Miraculous holder is over. But instead, Ladybug gives him the opportunity to prove himself by becoming Chat Noir's confidant and learning his secret identity through a scavenger hunt of sorts. Will Nino pass Ladybug and Chat Noir's test, or will he fail to put the pieces together in time?

Quick disclaimer here: the first chapter looks kinda salty towards Nino, with Ladybug laying into him for revealing his and Alya’s secret identities to Adrien and Marinette. She’s mostly just trying to scare him into taking them seriously, though, since she herself has just proposed that Nino become Chat’s secret-keeper, and he can’t afford to be lackadaisical with that identity. I highly recommend getting through at least chapter 2 of the fic when giving it a shot, because this had some great character development and introspection for Nino, on Chat Noir, Adrien, Ladybug, and himself.

It kind of sucked Nino was taking chemistry, but classes had filled up fast and he needed to take something and his advisor had said the credits would, somehow, count towards his major. It really sucked he was taking it first thing on a Monday morning (and Wednesdays, and Fridays, unfortunately). But he could get through it. He knew he could. So no more boys. No distractions. He could do this all on his own. “Is anyone sitting here?” Nino looked up to find the source of the voice. A blond, green-eyed, absolutely beautiful someone. Okay. Maybe one distraction.

Ah, adorable Adrino. This is a universe where Adrien never went to public school, so while Chat Noir, Ladybug, Carapace, and Rena Rouge all know each other (and Marinette, Alya, and Nino all know each other’s identities) they’re unaware that they are all already friends with Adrien. I loved seeing Chat and Carapace excitedly tell each other about their awesome crush/boyfriend, not knowing they were talking about each other XD.

Adrien could only stare back at him in shock. “How dare you all force him to come out?” Nino continued, glaring at the reporters. “That was disgusting.” He pulled Adrien over to the car, guided him in, and shut the door behind them. In the relative quiet and privacy of the backseat, Adrien finally processed what had just happened. “So… when were you going to tell me we were dating?”

This Adrino fic is delicious XD. Reporters keep hounding Adrien about his love life, so Nino finally gets them off Adrien’s back by fake-dating him. Problem is, Adrien’s actually been madly in love with Nino for years but has never been able to tell him. And now as they’re spending more time together, Nino’s beginning to find that he’s enjoying all these “couple” activities more than maybe he ought to if it’s entirely platonic...

If you want to see Adrien and Nino PINING for each other while “fake” dating (is it really fake if both parties want it to be real?) then you’ve come to the right fic!

I always put her first.” “Yeah,” Chat agrees, able to relate too well. He always put Ladybug first too, and he’s not sure it has ever been the same for her. “I’m sorry you’ve been so alone through this." “I haven’t been totally alone,” Nino disagrees, holding up his phone. “My best friend has been keeping me company virtually most of the day.” “Yeah? It helped?” “I don’t know if any of the stuff he sent helped, but like, given what I know he’s up to, he totally had to move heaven and earth to talk to me so much, and that really helped. You know, just knowing that someone was thinking of me.” “I’m glad,” Chat Noir said. “I wish he could be there in person for you.” Nino sighs. “Yeah, me too, but at least you’re here." ... Season 4 au - canon divergent from Rocketear Rocketear led to DJWiFi breakup.

Ahh, Adrino my beloved XD. I love the identity shenanigans in this one with Adrien being around Nino as both Adrien and Chat Noir, and both of them vaguely describing their situations to each other. It takes Adrien a bit to figure out that he has a crush on Nino, but once he does…

It's Valentine's Day and Ladybug just wants to her superhero partner to find his love. And what she wants, the Lucky Charm will create. If only she could remember what it is she did with it last night.

Adrino fic here! Marinette’s drunk and feeling awful that her superhero partner is alone on Valentine’s (she’s in a loving and committed relationship with Alya), so she creates a Lucky Charm to help Chat find love! In this universe, Ladybug’s Lucky Charms have the power to create new rules for the universe to follow, such as making one that demands that if you have any magic in you, you have to tell the truth or else you’ll freeze. Or in Adrien’s case, that he has to wake up in the arms of his true love every day XD. It’s very sweet and I love both Adrien’s and Nino’s relationship, and the relationship between the rest of the Miracuteam members as well, even though that’s not the focus.

Nino looked at the number and didn’t recognize it. Usually he wouldn’t answer, but he had nothing better to do – and could still really use a distraction – so he did. “Hello?” “Hey, Nino.” Nino stood up quickly, chest tightening. He knew that voice. He’d been waiting to hear it again for over two years. “Adrien?” he whispered. “Yeah. It’s me." - When Monarch is defeated (and revealed to be Gabriel Agreste), Chat Noir immediately goes missing. Adrien disappears not long after. When Adrien finally shows up in Paris again, Nino would do anything to make sure he doesn't disappear again.

Ah this is lovely, Adrien’s been in a lot of emotional turmoil since Monarch’s defeat, convinced that everyone would hate him, SHOULD hate him, for not realizing that his father was the villain, and should hate him even more for disappearing like he does. But slowly Marinette and Nino get through to him, convince him that they just want him back.

And also Adrien and Nino smooch. Multiple times. So that’s a bonus XD.

It's nothing, really- just an innocent comment, a joke. But when they hear it, Nino and Alya come to a realisation. There were, in retrospect, dozens upon dozens of hints. Now that they're suddenly aware of all their friend's flimsy excuses and rushed explanations, they're not only sure how they've missed it, they're not sure how anyone else has either. They realise that it had to be magic protecting their friends- and that same magic has ceased to work on the two of them. Well, this means they'll just have to start watching over their friends themselves.

After being bit by a radioactive spider, being bit by a werecat (listen, this is my AU, I can do what I want), and losing many, many people close to him, Adrien Agreste joined the spider society. Despite the darkness of his destructive powers, Adrien is a complete goofball who tries to have the most fun that he can.

I remembered when I was fixated on Monster High for a brief period, I had a Miraculous MH AU brewing in my head. I lost my original notes, so I tried to remember and note my ideas down. (If you have suggestions, feel free to add, I'm just brainstorming)

I like the idea of Graham de Vanilys being this old, rich vampire family, and Gabriel being human or another monster, like a werewolf. In MH universe there's still a rift between humans and monsters and prejudice against mixing different monster types + ancient vampire/werewolf rivalry. So I could see Adrien's grandparents resenting him for being a result of such a wrong union and him having to hide his half monster heritage (filing down his fangs, for example, if he's half human, or Gabriel editing out his monster parts in his photos) (I'm going off MH logic where vampires show up on camera)

But also I'm partial to frankenmonster Adrien because, like Frankie Stein, who came to school at just 15 days old, he's optimistic and a bit naive and just wants to make friends. And also in the context of "Frankenstein", the Creature was neglected by its creator (I still haven't read the original book, forgive me)

For Felix, I liked that in MH G3, Draculaura is a vampire studying to be a witch which is seen as something forbidden, and I just feel like it would fit him. Also could give him a fun dynamic with Marinette - like "okay, I won't tell anyone you're practicing witchcraft BUT you have to teach me".

Anyway, I imagine Felix used to be at vampire boarding school but after Colt's death, he asks Amelie to transition him to the same school Adrien wants to go to. So they're both newcomers. (Also I think Felix should get to kill his dad. Since vampires can't get sick or age, you know)

(It's almost midnight in the 1950s, and Adrien and Marinette are walking through the forest. Adrien is wearing a letterman's jacket while Marinette wears a cute pink sweater and black blouse.)

50s!Adrien: Mari, you know I like you, right?

(50s!Marinette blushes and giggles.)

50s!Marinette: Yes...

50s!Adrien: And I hope you like me the way I like you.

50s!Marinette: Of course I do!

(50s!Adrien takes a deep breath and then hands 50s!Marinette a silver ring.)

50s!Adrien: I was wondering if you'd be my special someone.

(She squeals and kisses him on the lips.)

50s!Marinette: Oh, Adrien! You've made me the happiest girl in all of Paris!

(The model gives a sigh of relief and picks up his girlfriend, spinning her around before setting her down. He beams with joy before his face falls.)

50s!Adrien: Now that it's official... I have something to tell you.

(He takes a deep breath and looks nervous.)

50s!Adrien: Marinette, I'm not like other guys.

50s!Marinette: That's exactly why I love you.

(He shakes his head.)

50s!Adrien: No... I mean I'm different.

(She looks confused.)

50s!Marinette: What are you talking about?

(Ominous music begins to play as the clouds part and a full moon is shown. 50s!Adrien grunts in pain and falls down to his knees. 50s!Marinette gasps in concern and goes to pick him up. Her voice shakes as she tries to get him to stand.)

50s!Marinette: A-Adrien?

(He snarls and turns around to face her. His eyes are green and catlike, his hair is wilder and his teeth are sharp. His voice is distorted and hellish.)

50s!Adrien: GET AWAY FROM ME!

(The designer screams in horror as 50s!Adrien begins roaring in pain. His body begins to contort, fur appears all over his skin, he grows cat ears and whiskers, and razor sharp claws. He now looms over 50s!Marinette as a werecat. There's a bloodlust in his eyes as he chases after her. She runs for dear life but trips on a rock. He corners her, and swipes at her with his claws.)

50s!Marinette: AAADRIEENN!

(We cut to a movie theater to reveal this is a film being shown for Halloween night. Nathaniel and Marc are in the theater and have differing reactions to what's happening. We hear the sounds of flesh being sliced offscreen. Nathaniel looks disgusted and puts his hands over his eyes while Marc is surprisingly excited, munching on a bucket of popcorn.)

Nathaniel: Marc, can we get out of here?

Marc: Why? I'm enjoying this.

Nathaniel: Rainbow, you hate horror. After we watched The Babadook you had nightmares for a whole week.

(Marc rolls his eyes.)

Marc: Well this is different. Besides, I thought you loved scary movies.

Nathaniel: Yeah! Horror. Not glorified torture porn. All this guy does in the movie is turn into his fursona, kill a bunch of people in increasingly brutal ways, angst about it, and then make out with his girlfriend. At least with Saw, it doesn't pretend to be a retro throwback. Honestly, I think Nino's fell off since his old stuff, and this film proves it.

(He almost throws up as he watches the werecat eat the girl's heart.)

Nathaniel: Fuck this. You can finish watching your gorefest by yourself, babe. I'm getting out of here before I vomit.

(He gets up and makes his way out of the theatre. Marc hesitates on whether or not to follow him. He decides to be a good boyfriend and does so. Marc tries to make Nathaniel see it's not so scary as they walk out of the theater together.)

Marc: Nathaniel, it's only a movie.

Nathaniel: Marc, I told you I-

(He pauses as he notices that all of a sudden Marc is wearing red jacket with matching pants. Nathaniel has the strangest feeling that it's familiar.)

Nathaniel: Wait, how did you do that?!

Marc: Do what?

Nathaniel: You were wearing your hoodie a second ago! It should not be physically possible for you to do that!

(Marc gives him a sly smile)

Marc: Maybe it's the magic of Halloween.

Nathaniel: Marc, what is going on with you?

(A funky beat begins to play and Nathaniel can hear wolves howling as fog fills the streets.)

Nathaniel: Wait, did someone slip something in my drink? Is that why you're acting so strange? Why it feels like we're the only two people in the whole city?

(The writer doesn't answer him and begins dancing to the music. He starts to sing as well.)

Marc:

It's close to midnight

And something evil's lurking in the dark

(Nathaniel becomes even more bewildered. Marc rarely sings, even to him, and it's usually something romantic.)

Nathaniel: I feel like I should know what this song is.

(Marc ignores him and continues dramatically emoting as he sings.)

Under the moonlight

You see a sight that almost stops your heart

Nathaniel: You're not going to answer me, are you?

Marc:

You try to scream

But terror takes the sound before you make it

Nathaniel: At this point, I gotta be dreaming. There's no way this is real.

Marc:

You start to freeze

As horror looks you right between the eyes

You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller!

Nathaniel: Ah, Michael Jackson. Should've guessed by the red jacket. Ok, so obviously I'm dreaming and fell asleep to some Halloween Spotify playlist?

(Marc ignores him and continues singing the lyrics to the song.)

Nathaniel: Thank god. Actually, that jacket looks pretty good on you. Could you bridal carry me home? That's one of my biggest fantasies, not gonna lie.

(He realizes that Marc won't be able to speak to him.)

Nathaniel: Oh right, I guess the girlfriend in the video didn't have many lines after the song started. So it's like an NPC right? If I say something that's not part of the video after a certain point, you don't respond.

(After Marc finishes the chorus, they walk in silence to the graveyard. Pipe organ music begins to play as Juleka's voice booms inside Nathaniel's head.)

Juleka: So, Nathaniel... how do you like my spell? Do you see the true terror of Halloween?

(Nathaniel knew this was still a dream, because he'd be able to tell if Juleka was actually a witch. Still, he played along.)

Nathaniel: Oh yes, I'm sooo scared. How could I be so dumb to say that Halloween isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Juleka: Careful, Kurtzberg. I've only been using a fraction of my power.

Nathaniel: See, this is definitely my subconscious, because I'm the only one besides Marc to use that phrase unironically.

(Suddenly, zombies begin to burst out of their graves, snarling and moaning. He recognizes them as the decayed versions of his classmates, complete with tattered versions of their normal attire and accessories. They start shambling towards him and Marc.)

Nathaniel: Pfft, you remember how I survived Zombizou? And those were the fast yandere types. I can beat these goons by walking at a regular pace.

(He feels Marc's hand grab his shoulder. He has somehow become a member of the undead, though he oddly enough looks a lot prettier than the others. Marc and the other members of the Akuma, Science, Recess and Theatre Class do the Thriller dance.)

Nathaniel: Is it wrong that I still find him extremely hot?

Juleka: On so many levels.

(The zombies maul Nathaniel to pieces as Juleka cackles maniacally. Nathaniel wakes up from his dream, to see he got a text from Marc.)

Marc: U ok, babe? You were mumbling Thriller in your sleep.

(Nathaniel chuckles and texts him back.)

Nathaniel: I think I have an idea for our next issue.

Does the Werecat ever need to be brushed, or does shifting take care of the worst shedding? On a similar note, does Adrien sometimes decide “it’s grooming time” and Marinette has to sit through getting her hair licked?

On a different note, does Adrien (in any form) play with cat toys.

Technically the werecat shouldn't need to shed. The fur is forcibly grown and lost each time Adrien changes forms, so the fur manifests as it needs to according to the season. He'd have a thick coat in the winter and a thinner coat in the summer. If, for some reason, Adrien were trapped for a long period of time in his werecat form, say in the period between winter and spring, he would naturally begin to shed just as any animal with a winter coat would.

Then again, he can still shed passively the same way humans can shed their hair without trying. Loose a couple strands here and there. It doesn't sound like much, but Adrien in his fully grown werecat form tops almost nine feet, so... not a lot of shedding still equals a lot of shedding when you're that big. Plus, his fur ranges from golden to cream, so its super noticeable when it gets stuck on clothing.

In terms of grooming... the older Adrien gets, the more blended he becomes with the cat spirit. Every year, he sheds a little more of his human inhibitions. There will be moments when he is struck by the instinct to groom, but he does retain enough of his common sense to know that licking Marinette's hair is a good way for her to screech at him and for him to choke on a hairball. If he wants to groom his lady love, he does so in ways he knows she'll like - a luxurious bath where he attends to her every need, a shower that allows him to scour her clean, or even simply sitting her down to comb her hair. Because grooming is both a means for cleanliness and a way for two animals to bond, Marinette grooms Adrien back when she can to show that she cares for him just as much.

As for toys, I can see Adrien playing with them for fun. He knows how silly he looks playing with cat toys and plays with them anyways because he knows it's silly. There's no great shame in leaning into the whole cat thing. :P

A rewrite of Miraculous Ladybug (specifically with the miraculouses lore) with endgame Adrino! It mostly builds off the beginning canon and loosely off the later seasons with a lot more consequences than what the show has for when a magical terrorist shows up out of the blue. In that way, each book is considered like a season with the chapters being the episodes.

First fic in the series: Awaken

The previously white butterfly, now oozing black and purple as a conduit of the butterfly miraculous powers, flutters softly within the silvered-gloved hand. It sits there for a long time. "Go, my akuma," The soft sigh pushes the butterfly, the akuma, out towards the despair of a love not returned. The same ache within his chest. On a level so great that he's willing to sacrifice the city to mend it. It's okay if he's the villain for now. He'll force the miraculous of creation and destruction to be revealed, and once he gets his hands on them, none of this pain, none of his loss, will ever happen.

It's not obvious at first glance, but there are some major side effects to using certain abilities repeatedly - particularly Destruction. It's not good for Adrien's body, which ends up being a major plot point.

The miraculi of Creation and Destruction were both sacred- and extremely dangerous. Two halves of a whole, they tied the user’s souls and fates together, permanently. This comes with life-changing, intertwining side-effects for both Adrien and Marinette. Adrien now has to combat his girlfriend’s chronic nightmares over Chat Noir dying in Ladybug’s arms.

So this one not only has them share nightmares, but also has them get animal tendencies, including the usual "Ladybug needs to cuddle with Chat Noir in order to stay warm and not hibernate" trope.

I adore fics where the holders get animal instincts! I especially liked the Alya and Zoe chapters, with Alya being comforted by still having animal instincts after Trixx was kidnapped, and Zoe getting Black Cat instincts because she bonded with Plagg even in just the few hours she was his Holder.

He doesn't even register that anything's strange at first. He spends more time transformed than not, whenever he can get away with it. He's long since gotten used to the feeling of his ears swivelling, his tail flicking. It takes him far too long to realise that he shouldn't be feeling his ears or his tail right now. He assumes at first that it's only phantom sensations. That happens sometimes, when he's stayed transformed for most of a day (or overnight, or- he stays transformed a lot. Whenever he can get away with it). There's usually a span of time after where he still moves like he's transformed until he has to consciously readjust. He knows Ladybug feels something similar, although without the ears and tail. The ears and tail that Adrien, somehow, still has.

This is the only fic on this list that isn't yet completed. It IS, however, regularly being updated, and is near the end of the first fic. Basically, transforming in this universe is like a partial merge with an Eldritch god, which isn't actually too horrifying on a physical level, but can make it hard to hold onto who you are and what you want, to hold onto that bit of humanity when compared with the cosmic scale of everything.

Anyway, I highly recommend it, the writing's great and the fic hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as it deserves.
