Also, as a bonus, I joked that this was the most amount of clothing I had drawn Mari in to date, and dearest ThornQueen feared I was veering toward the straight and narrow. So naturally, I had to reassure her that was simply not the case, and offered as penance my best piece of art I have ever created.

Five year lurker now here

Hi everyone

So I’ve been following the project since 2018ish but didn’t really follow around Tumblr (here) and the other places. Since AO3 is dealing with the spam bots, I guess I’ll come join in and meet everyone else here. 

I last read Chapter 15 in Monsters of Paris. Was the fanfic updated past that yet?

Okay Miraculous Ladybug fandom I could’ve sworn that A Werecat in London had a fanart comic to it! Or there used to be a fanart comic about Chat Noir turning into a werecat or a cat adjacent thing - but I CANNOT FIND IT TO SAVE ME! It’s from like 2016?? 17?? From the early years of the show pls help Omg it was on here!

One of the games in my month-long Hidden Gems Sale (also known as the the I'm unemployed pity party) is Fear the Taste of Blood. It's an asymmetric game using playing cards and dice to tell a story inspired by classic movie monsters: towering aristocratic vampires, frightful werewolves, constructed creatures and invisible fiends.

Throughout play you’ll record the attacks of the monster, how the survivors try to fight back and deal with the horror they are facing.

By default the game plays 3; one player acting as The Survivors, one player acting as The Monster and one player acting as the Night they're going through. It accommodates plenty of different sizes though.

It's based on the rules of Beyond the Rift via Anyone Can Wear the Mask.

There are rules for creating your own setting, monster and survivors but the game also comes with three pre-written scenarios. I sourced the art from old public domain horror magazines and comics.

Werecat by Night is werebeast story at an ice skating competition, with the human form of the Werecat among the survivors.

In The Widower of Count Dracula an all queer cast, including Jonathan and Mina Harker's grown up child, faces down the late Dracula's lover in post war London.

Man-Made Phantom is a mashup of the Invisible Man and haunted house stories, as well The Old Dark House.

I played both Werecat by Night and Man-Made Phantom at GenCon (with an expanded cast of 5/6 players including me) and had a lot of fun both times. Our Werecat by Night ended with the figure skating judge burning the Werecat to death with a flower and then a troubled skater choosing to take the blame for the attacks.

Hey Cap!!

It's been a Good Long While since I last sent an ask, life is so bloody busy. I've never begrudged you for taking your time to write new chapters (whenever you update it's just an absolute treat that I look forward to reading <3), but I'm now actually writing out my own stories and By God do I understand *why* it takes so long better now. This shit is so much fun but it takes sooo much time.

However! It has also given me a new appreciation for how much comments and stuff can be nice to read, so I've been working on writing better comments which are more comprehensive :3

Anyway! This is a really round about way in saying; life is stressful and starting college is wild, and at some point throughout the years I've found that rereading OM and PN has become a sort ritual to do when stressed. I've always got new questions, or notice details I'd passed over before whenever I read again...

Sooo, if you'd be interested I can send asks with new appreciation or observations plus lore questions :3?

Oh, and! I'm curious if you've ever read A Werecat In London by ThornQueen? It's fantastically written and has a unique plot! I think it's one of the only other fics (that I've read) aside from PN and OM that has extensively gone into the magical aspect of MLB. More specifically how the Kwami and miraculous *actually* work -with the Kwami having a more eldritch god vibe than silly animal companion energy- and the ramifications of that, and it has a thoroughly in depth magical community that is revealed and then explored.

It is rather explicit so it's chill if that puts you off, but it's one of my favourite examples of urban fantasy in miraculous fics so I'd be interested to hear what you think of it :)

I think ive seen that one scroll by when looking for new fics to read and while it being explicit might prevent me from checking it out Im glad to see theres more deeply written magic fics out there!!!

What do you think Colin's life would look like if they were in the modern world? How about in a world set in the same time period as Fallen London, but without the general magic and mythos? How about in a traditional high fantasy, where it's entirely magic and extremely limited tech?

So modern world honestly touches into interesting lore, but I'm assuming you mean a normal modern world, as opposed to the neon future in fallen london.

For the normal modern world, Colin is probably a lot less violent in general, because putting a pick through someones stomach actually has lasting consequences and all that, but they are still on the not exactly legal side of things. I imagine they probably end up as a hacker or a pickpocket depending how things play out.

I could also see them winding up as the type of journalist who is constantly in trouble because they don't believe in trespassing laws or classified information.

I will add, that they would fit incredibly well in the world of Leverage, which is modern and mostly grounded, and they'd basically have the same arc of starting out being a thief for personal gain and deciding to play robin hood as they go on. In this case though, instead of a horror story involving obsession potions and being buried alive and all of that, they probably wind up being stopped from crossing a line by the leverage team and turn around and run independent trying to help people.

For a normal late-Victorian AU, I see no way they survive the entire story, they are probably some type of burglar or cutpurse, maybe they steal some incriminating documents from someone high up, intending to commit blackmail and get beat to death by hired thugs who fail to find the paperwork, and a friend of theirs who they left with a letter explaining things is left to pick up the pieces.

I could also see them living long enough to work on the factory floor, probably heard about labor organizing from someone who left them behind, and decides to help unionize the factory, perhaps starting a labor riot even before taking a truncheon to the head as the Bobbies move in.

For traditional high fantasy, frankly, this fits their biggest adventure amazingly well. They absolutely start out as a thief looking for a massive diamond before the entire story happens to them. A few things I'm certain of:

They specialize in dream magic, but there are definitely other things that they don't know going on, to the point where they will hear another magic user describe what they do and it sounds fundamentally incompatible with what they know of magic.

They also, perhaps as a byproduct of the dream magic, can speak with rats and crows, and often use them as informants. I think they also perhaps are considered an honorary member of a sapient feline species, maybe werecats.

In this version, they are still losing the eye and replacing it, but the functionality changes, probably it lets them see into both the dream world and the real world at the same time.

Instead of wielding a pickaxe as their primary weapon, they have a billhook that they use. Oh, and moonmilk takes the form of a magical chain that when wrapped around someone's milk gives people a suicidal obsession with the first thing they see that is made by binding demons, one ongoing villainous involves creating a cambion to make a subtler version.

Also, High fantasy Hrathold is a wererat bandit that Colin befriends while on the run from an old enemy and High fantasy Hephaesta was a black knight who stayed with a traveling band of entertainers as a strongwoman when she decided to hang up her sword and armor until they are needed again.
