Kratos. The God of War. From the new God of War game that came out a few months ago. I was curious about the etymology question posed by @is-the-owl-video-cute so I looked it up and, according to etymonline.com, the word ‘warble’  originates in the “late 14c., from Old North French werbler "to sing with trills and quavers" (Old French guerbloiier), from Frankish *werbilon (cognate with Old High German wirbil "whirlwind," German Wirbel "whirl, whirlpool, tuning peg, vertebra," Middle Dutch wervelen "to turn, whirl"). The noun is recorded from late 14c.”

So, being the armchair linguist I am, I would assume that the stretch is called a warble because it involves a circular movement and the vertebrae in some way, or because when they hold their wings up like that it looks like a tuning peg, but this is ENTIRELY a guess on my part.

Additionally, the word 'whirl', which is vaguely related to 'warble' and may have had the same base original root back before Proto-Indo-European became the various European languages**, dates back to the 1300s and is probably from the Old Norse hvirfla "to go round, spin," related to hvirfill "circle, ring, crown," and to Old English hweorfan "to turn" while 'warbler' comes in as an agent noun from 'warble' in the 1610s and was applied to Old World songbirds by 1773, and to New World songbirds that looked like them by 1783.

This is when I mourn my loss of access to the OED, which would give me more information but which I am far too broke to afford a subscription to on my own DX And sadly none of this actually explains why the botfly larva growth on an animal is called a warble, but I’m too afraid to go digging on that one >w>

**Also a guess on my part: again I am an armchair linguist and rely on what I can google and remember from the two linguistics courses I took in college.

This shoulder stretch birds do is called a warble in old-falconry-speak. There. That is now a thing you know. Call it nothing else ever again.

I wouldn't envy her. Though, she often had a point in Glee. Will is such a bad teacher that if ND weren't the main characters, they would never win in s3, nor they would even qualify to Regionals in s2... Quinn and Sam have nice voices but now as powerful/charismatic as Rachel. Realistically, I think Werblers should win (tho I don't remember their performance that much). Do you have any idea for other AUs where Shelby gets to keep Rachel/is in her life as a third (or second) parent? :)

Will was a mess of a teacher. It did bother me that first season he very clearly speaks Spanish, then by season 3 he doesn’t know any of it. I hate when they do stuff like that. It’s poor writing.

I’d like to explore the Day of Firsts AU I wrote for Spanktember. Another time with a 10 year old Rachel getting on the wrong side of Shelby’s hand (and this time Shelby not being swayed by Rachel calling her Mama 😉).

I’ve mentioned this one before, but I also want to do a Rachel-raised-by-dads-and-stumbles-upon-Shelby-by-happenstance story. Rachel will be in 6th grade so turning 11. Dads are active parents and discipline her. Shelby will only be in her early 30s and doesn’t know the first thing about being a mom. The dads will have to sit her down and explain to her that she needs to be Rachel’s mom, not friend—and sometimes Rachel needs a spanking. The kid is sassy and manipulative and they’re raising her to be honest and follow the rules. Rachel thinks rules are made to be bent and will try to talk herself out of any and every punishment. (It never works with the dads, but may with an inexperienced Shelby).

Sort of like an Iron Fist animation but instead of his fists glowing, there’s a sort of field around his fists. You can't stop crime! That's what you never understood! I'm CONTROLLING it! You want to rule them by fear but what do you do to those who aren't afraid?! I'm doing what YOU won't! I'm taking them out! I personally love Jason Todd, the second Robin after Dick Grayson leaves to become Nightwing. After being killed by the Joker in the Death in the family comic, he comes back after being resurrected by means of the Lazarus pit. The determination & will to do what Batman can’t do: Kill. It just makes him an even better character and really separates him from the other Robins.
