What I think, that it isn't about really being "too young" or all that in terms of liking other people, it's the difference between maybe maturity is what they see and equate it as.

After all, 12 and 15 is just 3 years of difference, but Wendy could be seeing it as the different ways she's grown up, plus with having grown up separately, and having more experience and emotional maturity, and equating that to age.

I find Wendy's approach to Dipper's shy muddled advances reasonable and logical, though the exact meaning of age doesn't really apply, though, let me give an example

There could be people in college feeling weird that highschool students might be attracted to them (but let's just make the age difference 4-3 because, hey) and I would imagine it would be creepy or, yeah, unfavorable.

Yet there are happily married people, like my relatives for instance, with 10 years of difference. They met when they were older, and had a more stable ground with a good security of their future.

Well of course there are so many factors, so really, what can I say?

But yes, it is undeniably creepy for pretty much anybody to be crushing on a 5 year old. That's just wrong.
