I’ve been simping over your ‘human’ Nomicon design since it came out in Ninja-November. If you have any headcanons about them, would you please share?

ah, a fellow monster/eldritch horror enjoyer I see! thank you! <3 tbh that Nomicon design was like an one day revelation, because while I love all the human!Nomi designs I've seen over the years (and there are some banger ones, man), it hit me that we as a fandom really underutilize all the uncanny aspects Nomi possesses. So ye. I do have a couple hc.

Nomicon is an entity that doesn't have its own face and voice.

Whenever Nomicon talks to Randy it uses proxies in form of art/images/drawings/scribbles/writings. It gives strangely non-verbal vibes for something so cryptically eloquent! And whenever it does use a voice, its voice of the First Ninja (or more accurately his VA xD) , its first owner/wielder. When it uses a face, its usually the static/unmoving marble-like faces of Art or silly pen scribbles - both of which hold that uncanny valley look of something that looks human but really isn't. Not to mention the fact that it once literally stole Randy's face/body to teach him a lesson.

I like to think that Nomicon has a library of faces/visages/voices it can take on, but all of them are creepily unsettling because - what would a book know about how to be human? It's face moves wrong, the eyes are too wide open, its body is creepily still, the voice uses inflections like its copying someone else (and sometimes voice warbles and changes/overlaps with other voices because it has so many).

All of it gives these fae/cryptid vibes of creatures that steal voices/faces to trick people, but in this case Nomicon collects those faces/voices from its owners along with their memories (which is another messed up thing we collectively forget is very creepy lol).

Nomicon is an entity that doesn't have a body, and most importantly - hands.

The reason I gave Nomicon so many shadow hands is because, well, Nomicon is a book. Hands hold those books, so the hands are very important to Nomi. All those shadow hands? Are memories of all the hands that held it (mostly previous Ninjas, but also the Creep and some others). It remembers everyone who held it.

The fit- the hat and the cape are kind of obvious, it look like center of the cover and the cape looks like covers on either side with pages underneath. The weirdest addition I made - is the spaghetti noodle-doodle 'hair'.

It constantly fascinates me that Nomicon, besides the Greek Key/9 motif, has those sort of concentration circles that are also present during Mask/Suit transformation. It gave me thought of sort of weird halos i guess?? Which adds to creepy vibe, but in this case its biblically accurate angel / holy deity type of vibes.

Nomicon has very basic understanding of humanity.

For all the experiences/memories/personalities it was created from and it absorbed over the years, human things are a rather alien concept for the book. It's the reason Nomicon is so bad at its timing whenever it buzzes Randy. It just doesnt care that you are at school Randy, its trying to teach you how to be a better ninja!!! In some sense, it absorbed the most prevalent quality of First Ninja - the dedication to duty, the whole reason for its existence - to serve Ninjas to be the best they can. So, such human/mortal things as good grades/video games/a good nights sleep are very nebulous concepts to it.

Less of a hc but more of an observation/gripe but-

COME ON ITS NAME??? Ninjanomicon as in Ninjanecronomicon??? Because lets be honest its not just a book/guide for Ninjas its a book full of DEAD NINJAS??? LIKE??? In some sense all previous Ninjas, when they go through Ultimate Lesson, 'die' in the real world (because they are no longer Ninjas) and are preserved in Nomicon. And First is like deadass dead? (Plop plop too lol). So I feel like there should be more creepiness about that.

thoughts on the presence of marius’ painting in dubai in the show? ive been thinking about this since episode 7 aired because louis threw a bowl of blood at a painting in one scene which wasn’t marius’, yet made me think it should have been. but its interesting that its there at all? of course they’re art collectors and dealers in 2022 but god. i feel like the painting might end up being a chekov’s gun. it cant be there for nothing, right?

(also the scene of “rashid” armand in s1 telling daniel about it keeps coming back. how did he FEEL about that especially if daniel is indeed someone he loves and has loved for years)

AHHH OMG!!! LOVE THIS QUESTION!! I’ve been thinking about this constantly since s1, which believe it or not spurned some theories about Armand’s relationship with Louis that ended up being surprisingly accurate 😭. I can’t tell u how many times I rewatched the Rashid-mand tells Daniel about marius’s painting scene before s2 aired (definitely more than any other scene in the first season 💀💀). Ughhh!! omg!! U r so right 😭😭 the painting Louis threw the blood at should have been Marius’s. The thematic implications!!! The impact!! The way Armand would feel!! It’s making me crazy thinking about it

I speculate that Armand is trying to seek out and reclaim as many of Marius’s painting as possible. I imagine that Armand acquired the painting in the dining room by searching intently for any paintings of Marius’s that survived the fire. Part of him likely feels entitled to them. Legally he’s just Marius’s slave, but the way he sees it it’s so much deeper than that. Marius is his father, his husband. He should be given his possessions, his works of art, after he’s died. And I think the fact that Armand, by both historical records, and by anyone he knows, will always be viewed as Marius’s slave, his victim, before he is Marius’s closest loved one, feels disempowering and invalidating. Technically, if they weren’t vampires and legal consideration was given to who Marius’s possessions should be given to after his death, as a slave Armand likely wouldn’t be considered. But, Armand believes that because of the role Marius had in his life, he is rightfully owed that inheritance. And the symbolic value of that fact is important to him.

I think sometimes the show fandom doesn’t realize how attached to Marius Armand actually is 😭. If they’re going by the books, Armand is longing for Marius and for Venice. Marius is the love of his life the same way Lestat is the love of Louis’s life (maybe even more so considering he’s not just his lover but his father 😭 Marius played every major role in Armand’s life, he was his father, his lover, his maker and his god). Armand is stuck on him, he is always longing for him, never able to move on. So I think for Armand owning paintings of Marius’s is partly an assertion and a reclamation of the way he perceives his relationship with him. By owning them and displaying them on his wall, not only is he allowing himself to live with a comforting reminder of Venice (which I’ll get to), but hes also asserting that Marius loved him, and he was important to Marius, and he deserves to and is entitled to owning his paintings after Marius has died because he is the person who these things should go to, he is displaying that he is the most important person to Marius, that he is the person who would be in his will.

on the Venice note, Armand is also indulging in a small little fantasy by putting Marius’s paintings on his wall. He lived with those paintings, his father likely painted them while he was in the room. He saw them in the halls in the palazzo, maybe even in his lavish old dining room. In the books Venice was and continues to be Armand’s perceived “best part of his life”. Venice was his childhood, the only time in his life he remembers being taken care of, well fed, spoiled, loved. And from our perspective it was horrible, he was being sexually abused and beaten regularly, literally pimped out and enslaved. But think about how Armand told his story to Louis, he was smiling wistfully, longing despite it all. And I think even in Dubai Armand misses Venice, feels comforted by the memory of it. So it makes sense that he would hang Marius’s painting on the wall, as a small comfort, so that maybe sometimes he can stare at it and picture he is back there, in his master’s studio, basking in the sunlight, loved.

The scene where Armand as Rashid shows the painting to Daniel is so so loaded. Daniel initiates the conversation, but Armand definitely indulges in it more than he needs to. That scene is the first time we rlly see Armand using his Rashid persona to tap into his past. He says, “I serve a God, it’s my honor to serve” which is fucking weird 😭 and no one but Armand would say that (real rashid wouldn’t💀 he definitely sees the vampires in a way that is more grounded and empathy based then god like). He’s clearly tapping into how he felt as Amadeo, a servant to Marius, rather than playing his part. It seems like Daniels interest in the painting and him talking about + bringing attention to it brought Armand back to that Venice mindset in a way. Even with this, he’s definitely pushing Daniel away, trying to change the topic as quickly as possible while remaining in character. Which makes me think that Armand wasn’t happy at the prospect of being so vulnerable with Daniel so soon. The impression I get (especially from season one) is that despite his past and current love for him, Armand sees a different person in old Daniel, and is very hesitant to open himself up to him. Considering how different (and mean) he is, and how painful and loaded their past was, it’s a very hard thing for Armand to approach, and it doesn’t seem currently on his agenda.

What I rlly am curious about is how Louis feels about Armand keeping Marius’s paintings in their home, displaying them on their wall. I imagine it would be uncomfortable for him, if not upsetting, in a similar way to how Armand feels about the presence of ghost Lestat, if not more complicated with the layer of how extremely abusive Marius was. But how can Louis judge? Who is he to give push back on smth like this when he is still actively hallucinating his dead, abusive ex husband 😭🙏there’s a lot going on there.

Hogwarts has been a big journey for you and all the wacky magical things happening. as now you are in senior year, the last year in hogwarts, after that you'll have do the N.E.W.T.s test that is known to be increadibly difficult.

Your really nervous, luckly your friend, Dina is a fellow gryffindor as well. And she's a smart student.

You really want to do well in the test. magic isn't as easy as flickering a wand in the air and boom! your a frog. Its much more complex than that. theory or practice, its hard.

Your now in the library with Dina, studying your ass off. its quite stressful with all the subjects.

Tomorrow is the quidditch match. your house versus slytherin. you can't wait to watch it. its always so much fun watching quidditch. you never really liked playing quidditch since it all looks so exhausting and dangerous, not like hogwarts is not itself. but you rather focus on your studies.

"Dina, im going back. real tired. you coming?" you ask the black haired girl. "Yeah all go back after its actually time for students to get back and sleep" she replied. "Cya" you left the library grabbing your books.

You walk all along the school corridors and went on the anoyying stairs that always move to a different place. its still quite busy. but only with all the seniors. running up and down.

You suddenly bump into someone. an auburn haired girl making you drop your book. "shit, sorry let me get them for you" she bent down to your knees grabbing the books you dropped.

The girl hands out the books back to you. "thanks... ellie?" you thank her while a bit skeptical if thats her name. "no problem" she replied and continues walking down the stairs.

You were right, Ellie williams. captain of the slytherin quidditch team. You see her a lot. she's a big deal. the some what 'anoyying' quidditch captain that always makes their team win in quidditch the past years shes been in hogwarts.

You continue walking up the stairs towards the 'fat lady' painting. You stood infront of the painting. "fibbertigibbet" you said as the painting opened and you step in.

Your basically the first senior to enter since everybody was busy studying while you cant take it anymore. you were too sleepy. so you changed in to your pyjamas and went to bed

Your sleep was interrupted by Dina. "wake upppp, it's already time for brekfast!" she shook your unconcious body. you quicky open your eyes and saw that it is perfectly 7.30 in the morning.

Your sleep felt so quick. "wait up, im gonna get dress" you got up and dressed up as Dina waited in the common room.

"Let's go Deen" you went outside the gryffindor house and quickly went down the stairs to the great hall where brekfast is served until around 8.

You went ahead and sat down and grabbed the food you wanted. chicken, again. your kind of obsessed with eating chicken by now.

You glaired at the slytherin table where you saw, ellie williams again. for some reason, since you two bumped to eachother on the stairs, you couldnt seem to get her of your mind.

Dina waved her hand infront of your face trying to stop you from zoning out and daydreaming too much. "who's the lucky guy your gonna take to dance after the exam?" Dina looks at you hoping you already have a guy to take out to the last senior prom.

"Oh uh, dunno" you slightly shook your head. "who we're you looking at anyways?" she asks curiously. "no one, just uhh.. someone that helped me grab my books when we bumped into eachother last night"

"see? i dont think thats a 'no one' after all! who is it?" she shook your shoulder excitedly. "a girl... you know? slytherin's quidditch captain?" you said nervously.

"are you kidding? ellie? you mean ellie williams? she's bad news!-" Dina said out loudly as you stopped her to make her a little more quite since there was a lot of people looking at you two.

"My god, she's so anoyying! she's our rival y/n!" she looks at you. "i knowww, but-" you stopped talking trying to think what to say next.

"but what? okay, i could quickly find you a good looking, smart, green flag gryffindor guy in a minute! it'll be easy, almost every gryffindor wants you. not to meantion, a lot of other boys from other houses would want you"

"i'll just worry about it later, whats the point of having a 'guy' that wants you but you don't want them anyways?"

You couln't focus the whole time in potions. you kept having your eyes on ellie making it difficult. you exited the class and went towards the bathroom to wash your face.

You went inside hearing someone crying and ofcourse it is moaning myrtle. the ghost who haunts the girls bathroom.

You saw another girl infront of the sink. you got closer and it was ellie. god, you meet her everywhere. you went to the sink next to her as you turned on the faucet.

Ellie looks at you "hey, never really catched your name last night" slightly tilting her head. "I- im- uh, y/n" you introduced yourself.

"nice meeting you"

"y-you too!" you said nervously.

"whats your next class y/n?" god, she said your name making you blush a little. suprised that she brought up a conversation. "defence againts the dark arts" you replied.

She looks at you while not sayying a thing. just admiring your face making your heart skip a beat. you couldn't handle the tension anymore.

"i should get to clas-" you stepped a bit further from her but she grabbed your left arm. "the teacher wouldn't mind you being late right?" she said teasingly.

"y-yeah he wouldn't min-" suddenly ellie pulls you in a kiss. fuck, you didn't know this would happen so quickly. you kissed her back. her hands on your waist.

"c-can we a go somewhere a little more private? Just incase...-" ellie grabs you and puts you two in one of the stalls locking the door from behind.

She pins you to the door and started giving you hickeys on your neck with you letting out choked up moans as she lifts up your sweater.

You hear someone sniffing, moaning myrtle. "Looks like things are getting a little too spicy in here. you stupid kids forgot i haunt this place? Jeez, get out!"

Shit, you totally forgot about her being her- fuck! Your missing out on professor lupin's class!

"El- ellie im missing class i should go-" you push her back a little. "See you after the match?" You nod as you went outside the stall

You ran around the corridor. 14 minutes late into proffesor lupin's class. luckly it was him teaching so he didn't make a fuss about you being late and you just said you were in the bathroom constapated as hell and he led that slide without you telling him you hooked up with the slytherin quidditch captain.

"were you that constipated? your lucky proffesor lupin isn't absent or you'd be in hell!" Dina did made a fuss about it.

You rolled your eyes and continued writing in your notebook.

You were lying, theres been a lot of guys asking you but you just rejected all of them.

You walked away from him without looking back. as the corridor got a little less hectic, ellie approaches you. "hey, about that..." she stopped. "would you go to the yule ball with me after the exam? any chance? you already got someone... dont you?"

You giggled "i don't, ellie" you smile. she smiled back at you and pulled you in for a kiss infront of people including dina.

I feel weird giving out unprompted permission statements because I'm making a big assumption that anyone's going to want to use my work. That said I also know people do like to build on other people's art and can't always work up the nerve to ask, so: Anyone is free to use this design if they want to for any reason- I don't own this character anyway. (Although I am hopeful that you do not, you know, monetize it, because i cant do that and if you do that its not fair ;_; ) Feel free to remix, improve, use as basic inspiration, etc. I would appreciate a tag/mention if you use it so I can see what you did!

This design has evolved a little since I first started drawing it, and I will see people reblogging the original design notes and think 'oh no! those are out of date and I don't have new/accurate ones!'

Reblogging the old one is still an honor- and the first take on a design just sometimes has a different appeal because it's less refined and more chaotic (especially with a character that should be chaotic), so I suspect some people will just prefer the older drawings & they'll still get shared, which is great! But I felt as if the project was a little bit incomplete without an update, since I think I've reached the point where if you see that old post & then come to my blog and look at my current content, there's a noticeable difference.

Also I kind of like making design notes.

If anyone's wondering why things changed, the answer's really simple- 90% of it is just the result of him settling into having more consistent anatomy and facial structure so that I can keep him looking accurate across different angles and poses. If you look at the old drawings you may notice that Gollum has an inconsistently shaped squishy head. That's fine for a concept post but doesn't work as well for maintaining him across different comic panels or in an animatic, at least not the way I work.

In the same vein, while my art is still & will always be heavily stylized, I started giving him more structured semi-sorta-realistic anatomy so that he wouldn't look entirely out of place next to less bizarre-looking characters such as Aragorn. (I feel that's also helpful in nudging Gollum into the uncanny valley where he ought to be, rather than leaving him so abstractified that there's a risk you won't see anything wrong with him having noodle arms.) He also acquired the new-style 'garbage bag' outfit because I found a reference in LOTR to his arms and legs being bare/exposed (it's in one of my favorite passages, the 'an eagle would think Gollum was dead if it came by right now' passage in The Two Towers):

Not even an eagle poised against the sun would have marked the hobbits sitting there, under the weight of doom, silent, not moving, shrouded in their thin grey cloaks. For a moment he might have paused to consider Gollum, a tiny figure sprawling on the ground: there perhaps lay the famished skeleton of some child of Men, its ragged garment still clinging to it, its long arms and legs almost bone-white and bone-thin: no flesh worth a peck.

1. Does Martin remember Chris? Does he know how he could've/should've looked like?

2. How brainwashed is Chris? How much does he actually believe?

Ty for the ask anon ! Honestly some of these questions are things i originally wanted to include in the explanation post but ended up deleting because i didnt want to make it too lengthy so Im glad to talk about them now!

1. Martin doesnt remember Chris clearly, he has some blurry memories and flashes but its mostly the feelings he remembers if that makes sense. Like how he was close with Chris and loved him a lot, the feeling of fear everyone felt when Chris went missing and the despair when no one could give them closure, how lonely he felt after.

He doesnt really know what Chris could look like, maybe he likes to imagine, but you cant really get accurate answers like that. Also with cases like his you often see detectives constructing images of what the missing kids could look like now years later and I thought about Chris getting one of these done but he probably would only do that if he sorted through everything else because while Martin thinks his brother is alive, Chris firmly believes that he died a long time ago. He doesnt really think the image would be useful

2. Hes half brainwashed and half doesnt remember a lot of things naturally because of a traumatic reaction. What he has been told was that they have been through a traumatic accident (like a car crash) of some kind that damaged his brain temporarily and thats why he barely remembers anything from his early childhood and has some memories that never actually happened (the memories of the Kratt family) and he believes thats true because frankly, he has no reason not to. Maybe he questioned it when he was younger, but as an adult your childhood memories get really blurry (especially if youve been through something traumatic) so he kind of just accepted the car crash excuse to be true. He suspects there's something hes not being told but he doesn't even think of him being kidnapped as a possibility

3. A little, yes ! The reason Martin wanted his brothers case to be investigated again was actually because of how bad it affected his parents even after 20 years, which is just the sad reality of missing child cases. This part is unfortunately not that well developped yet, but maybe the Kratt brothers father fell really ill and Martin was worried hed have to pass away without knowing what happened to Chris, or maybe they got divorced after not being able to move on from the incident evem after all that time, ill have to think about it but whatever happened motivated Marin to contact detective Chris.

Either way I do have 2 scenes in my head that include atleast one of them ! The first one is where Chris and Martin go back to Martins childhood home to search the area again, and they briefly talk to mama Kratt who still lives here, and she takes one look at Chris with a mothers eye and thinks "wow he looks exactly like Chris" and although she doesnt believe its actually him she does think its some sign from the universe or idk something sentimental !! I just rhink itd be sweet of her. I also think itd be interesting from the pov of Chris because this is a maternal figure who treats him really nice and he just cant help but notice how different his mom is from Martins yk sad feelings...

Also Chris gets to reunite with his parents after everything goes down :)

4. Hell Yeah!!

Martins missions here are a bit more professional as he doesnt really have anyone to goof around with but he still has fun because he gets to gush about animals to the team.!! (He definitely wishes he had someone with him out in the field) Also i guess the villains are also interesting here because dealing with them alone causes confrontations to drag out, and they also become harder and more serious, especially with Zach as he got a big advantage with 'the crawler'. Aviva does jump in to help a lot but shes a bit limited because at this point she hasnt finished making her own cps yet (this might become relevant later i havent decided yet.)

In the last part I assume you were asking about how they feel about Chris, and they do meet a lot while Martin and Chris are working on the investigation, and Koki actually helps them a lot with her computer skills. The crew also grows pretty close to Chris, i mean he kinda just clicks with them, and he latches onto them a lot as he hasnt really had proper friends before. Like ever. Basically theyre just found family i love them. !!!

Sorry for making this so long haha I just love talking about this au... I hope these answers satisfied!

— I take little to no criticism on this. I can't imagine Ashlyn's being anything else. If she tried getting a gift she'd probably take too long wondering if theyd actually use it. Physical touch is a meh, she doesnt hate it but it wouldnt be her favourite. She said herself she isnt the best with words.

Her gift to people is just her presence. She'd be the type to occasionally need quiet but wouldn't mind being in comfortable silence with someone she likes. I feel like quality time would be her way of showing she cares for someone.

While I could see him loving physical touch as I doubt he got enough of that as a child and he clearly loves being touchy with people I feel like with what we know I could argue really any love language. He'd probably take anything if it makes him feel cared for.

I found a picture of a chart saying "your love language may show what you lacked as a child" and he checked every box so he's fucked.

I ultimately want to settle with physical touch as he seemed shocked when Ashlyn initiated the hug likely due to being the one to always initiate them. Like above he probably just wants his efforts reciprocated.

omg of course!! ive been writing fanfiction for a while now (mostly gen!fics, honestly, and not even reader inserts😭) and i found that these things have kinda worked best for me:

1. go back to the source material

if i’m writing a fanfic thats based on a book, and it’s canon compliant, i like to search up ‘(name of book): timeline’ or if its a movie/show, i go to the wiki page and read the summaries. it just helps to keep yourself accurate. this also works for writing how a character acts/talks, like, i think ive watched about a dozen clips of sunburn (because im too lazy to watch the movie again hehe) trying to replicate davin mcderby’s cheeky personality and dublin accent!

2. read other peoples work!

this is more of a personal preference but reading other people’s fics gets my inspiration going (this is definitely because their work was so amazing)!!! it helps for me to nail down a specific tone of voice too, seeing how other’s characterize who i’m writing about/for.

3. desensitize yourself :p

by desensitizing yourself i mean it in relation to writing smut. for me reading smut is way easier than writing it LMAO when i first started writing smut (which, was like a month ago so bare w/me and take this advice w/a grain of salt😭) i had to physically get up and walk around after a few sentences. so spend some time saying all the dirty shit like “he pried my lips open with the tip of his cock”— stuff like that LOL. if you do cringe like i did, just keep going: it gets better with time. it probably helps if you’re not a virgin but i very much am☠️

4. try different pov’s!

i used to write in the 3rd person pov for reader-inserts, which is great, but i find that writing in 2nd person is much more… personal (can u tell im not eloquent at all outside of fanfiction lmao). find what works best for u, be it 1st, 2nd, or 3rd! it helps to stretch those writing muscles of yours too hehe.

5. finally, when it comes to length, motivation or ideas, do what feels best for u!

if u think it’s better to end that oneshot with a couple thousand words or a couple hundred, do it. if u dont wanna write today, dont! if u want to write some wild crazy shit, do it!!! its YOUR writing and u should trust urself:) u defo know urself better than tumblr randos anyway LMAO

i saw spiderverse yesterday and oh my god. (movie review/spoilers below)

First of all, trans gwen stacy, im literally going insane, gwen stacy is trans. Anyway it was the best spiderman movie I've ever seen, easily, best animated movie too. Across the spiderverse was so good I'm genuinely considering if it was the best movie I've ever seen. The cameos were so fucking awesome i was shaking my friend next to me and pointing at the scream like every two minutes, donald glover, spectacular spiderman, insomniac spiderman, scenes from andrew and tobey's movies. Gwen's back story and home life, her struggle with her dad and the way its so easily comparable to coming out to your parents, for both her and Miles. She told her dad she was spiderwoman and he couldnt accept that, their relationship from that point is incredibly difficult in which they cant really even look at each other, him getting upset because to him, she isnt his daughter anymore, eventually all of this ending in the heartbreaking talk at the end where they finally try to see each others points of views and get to say what they want and finally hugging as the world around them is painted in trans colors (little tangent here but oh my god the way gwens entire universe looks like paint or a painting is so fucking beautiful and the way it started running and she was yelling and crying at her dad, so fucking amazing)

And Miles hiding his identity from his parents, scared that they'll hate him or be mad at him lying about it for so long, and when he finally gets up the guts to tell his family (albeit the wrong family) the dialouge is so similar to trans people coming out. Him saying he has something to tell them and he doesnt want it to change the way they see him or anything and how he doesnt want them to be mad or love him any less. Me and my friend related way too much to that scene.

Miguel my husband and his backstory were heartbreaking too, not having a family, finding a universe where he does have one and trying to live there. Hobie Brown just being the coolest fucking guy ever from his accent to his genuinely accurate portrayal of punks and how they use it to be serious and have him realize the spider team aren't the good guys or play it up for jokes. THE INSANE FUCKING PLOT TWISTS OF, THE SPOT BEING THE GUY MILES HIT WITH A FUCKING BAGEL IN THE FIRST MOVIE, MILES BEING IN THE WRONG UNIVERSE WHEN HE GOES HOME BECAUSE HE WAS BIT BY THE SPIDER FROM THAT UNIVERSE AND SHOULDNT ACTUALLY EXIST AS SPIDERMAN, AND OTHER UNIVERSE HIM BEING THE FUCKING PROWLER. The entire theater was freaking out it was awesome. I dont think i even need to talk about the animation. The blend of different styles was awesome as usual, but they actually experimented more with this one and it paid off so well. The vulture in the beginning was so beautiful, me and my friend were freaking out every time he was on screen, and Hobie fucking brown. Hobie Brown was the most beautiful animation I've ever seen, the way he moved, the way he changed colors, they way he interacted with objects and people and the world around him, they experimented with him and it paid off so well and I hope in they next one they'll continue to do things like that. I literally never review movies but everything about this one was so awesome that i needed to talk about it

The same words can equally apply to a participant in a game of capture the flag, where one team’s lone survivor fights for their life in hopes that a singular small success will turn the tides.

Shuuji gets a weird text at the worst possible time. Ryo risks his neck for the sake of the team. There’s alligators.

yeah im not posting the entire fic under the readmore , im not prepared to spend another two hours of trial-and-error on formatting. anyway i have so much to say about digisurvive but im unfortunately not the type to talk about stuff unprompted until im much more confident n comfortable. instead i'll talk about the First Ficwriting Experience Since 2016

ive seen all four endings but i havent done what im calling my Victory Lap playthrough yet. what i mean by Victory Lap is that i got my guys at lvl 80+ and the only real purpose of going thru it all again is to see any early-game missed dialogue and take unnecessarily-meticulous character notes

im not about to claim to be a Blorbo Expert w a PhD or anything but i think ive got a pretty solid understanding of the bulk of the characters and can manage a pretty accurate portrayal . shuuji and ryo are definitely the easiest characters for me to write , and im anticipating that the same will be true for kaito. i cant say for certain tho since i havent explored his voice much yet but im more or less confident that i can do a good job

at first i was like oh god oh fuck i cant write aoi but i thought about it for 2 seconds and it turns out that uhhhhhhhh i was a lot like her when i was a teenager. the insecurities are exactly the same, it is so horrifyingly uncanny. so for me, saki is the one that i find the most difficult to characterize and i love that because it seems so deliberate. this girl DOES NOT want you to perceive her and is doing her best to ensure that you do not notice that she has anything to hide. if you are good at writing saki, i have a lot of respect for your tremendous power

but thankfully sakis presence in this is minimal so i dont have to worry about that just yet. what i AM worried about are my formatting choices. i think theres a lot of potential in fucking around with indentation, typeface, and text placement, so im taking a swing at trying to push it further than i have before. i think it can serve so well to imply when something is happening, what else is happening at the same time, and how it makes the characters feel without having to outright say so. i dont want it looking like a geronimo stilton book tho so i gotta learn to strike a balance lmao

SO much of the way i enjoy character portrayal comes from tone and nonverbal communication, especially really subtle stuff like eye movement and body language. i think it can be so challenging to write that stuff in a way that doesn't feel clunky or encumber the pacing. the thing im practicing right now is saying stuff without saying it, and also trying to improve my imagery & symbolic language. im having a lot of fun with it

Okay so like. As a film it was fine, it was good. The point got across, it balanced its funny moments and its sad moments very well. It just didnt hit me quite as hard as I'm sure it will a lot of other people, because Anxiety isnt something that hit me hard in some scarce scenarios or something that came and hit hard during puberty but chilled out after that. Its been an integral part of my person since I was INCREDIBLY young. The thought processes that we see Riley go through after gaining anxiety as an emotion at 13 years old is such a perfect representation of what I went though at 5.

While I was watching the film, i had a vastly different reaction to it than my sister and mother. My mother simply didnt understand anxiety. Didn't really understand why she was there, what her motives were, or why she was taking over like she was. I had to explain most of it to her, interpreting what anxiety was thinking and how it functioned. My sister turned to me and said "I want to punt Anxiety" because of the way anxiety made Riley do bad things and feel so disproportionately bad about herself. I had to explain that anxiety was never malicious, she had fully good intentions. That its entirely accurate to how anxiety really thinks.

As an example, a key part of the film is Riley's beliefs, her sense of self. At the beginning of the film Riley's sense of self was "I am a good person." and this is made up of threads like "Im a good friend." "I'm good at hockey" ect. As Anxiety took over, threads like "If I'm cool, I will have friends" and "If I'm good at hockey, I will be cool" started appearing. When there were enough of these threads, the sense of self became "I'm not good enough." I was the only one watching who wasnt shocked or sad to see the result. Because that's what anxiety is, with anxiety you yourself are never enough, its always dependent on some task being completed or on someone else's perception of you. It was never Anxiety's INTENTION for Riley to not think she was enough, that wasnt her desired end goal, its just inevitably how you feel if your entire self image is dependent on how others think of you or how well you complete arbitrary tasks.

I think the ending could have been much more impactful, the way Joy reached out to Anxiety was a little strange to me. I liked how Anxiety wasnt tangible during the anxiety attack, I thought it would continue with anxiety needing to be talked down and reassured, and how Joy needed to accept her as a part of Riley's life, how there was no way to "stop" Anxiety, only a way to live alongside her. But instead, Joy ended up just telling Anxiety "you need to let her go" and "you dont get to choose who Riley is" which felt kinda like pinning the current events on Anxiety. Sure it made joy realize that Riley was an entire person with flaws too, that she cant "choose" who Riley is by moving all the bad memories to the back of her mind. But idk it just felt like the wrong way to do things. Anxiety is a part of the human experience, worry and overthinking are things you really just need to live with, in any concentration. She is there to protect Riley, like the rest of them, just if she does it too much it leads to a bad result.

ok 1st floor, 1st dungeon

first thing to note: no controls section, which is fine cause I've played red rescue team and already know them. another thing, my, or more accurately Nathan's partner seems to be in this dungeon, dont know how their showing up on the map without the area being "discovered" (or however you say it). weird way to introduce the partner, but hey points for originality.

now i assume were going to have to actually meet the partner before heading lower into the dungeon so lets go do that.

tried the first path and reached a dead end so i turned around and went the other way. didn't take long before i ran into the partner (considering how he was moving towards me), who was a pikachu.

although, i dont know why but, theres something, off about them. i cant really put a finger on it. maybe i should try talking to them.

well, then..... i guess that confirms weather the games busted in some way or not...

but ive already gotten to here and now I'm interested, lets see what else they have to say.

i pressed on with the dialouge but they didnt say anything else. instead, they attacked me.

i tried hitting them back but it just triggered more dialogue boxxes

tried using the moves but, there werent any. so i just kept pressing a and getting more nonsensical dialogue boxes, with the amount of damage pikachu dealt with just that first blow its clear i couldn't fight him, until this happened

took the boxes advice (what else can i do?).

as usual me and "pikachu" switched places. after that i ran straight to the staircase.

not much to note here.

at most it was just a small empty maze.

however i did find 5 geo pebbles and an apple so it wasnt all bad.

I have 3 hours before my plane boards so here’s round 2 of sammy writing 18 paragraphs of the situation with my little Thing. Last time I was like 85% accurate in my predictions . You get proper puncaution for this.

Ok so now we know that Dear Wesley is still off being a traveler. I’m going to set aside the Jack 2 situation for now we will revisit it later but right now we don’t have nearly enough information to bring him into it. So what the biggest question right now is “did Wesley just cut everyone off and disappear off the face of the earth OR is everyone pretty well aware he’s off being a traveler” . Which is a split divide in beta canon so it’s a tossup when it comes to the show too. Let’s get into it.

The whole “wesley comes back every once in a while” thing (which is in like... one or two comics... mostly stuff that came out like Right After journeys end) is a mixed bag. Journeys end presents wesley leaving as like.. him going off to a study abroad or something it’s not treated with much weight. But it sort of undermines the situation and I don’t think just leaving starfleet and going on a little permanent vacation would fix .. like all that. Little Thing’s got Issuesssss.

Also I know Star Trek is terminally terrible at forgetting wesley but considering last season was an ENTIRE SEASON about time travel and fucking up the spacetime continuum and picard being like “ooohhhhh i dont know who could help with this”. If its not lazy writing then there’s gotta be a reason for purposefully not mentioning wesley. ESPECIALLY if they don’t mention him when it comes to Jack 2 . It could 100% be lazy writing I’m just acting on the assumption that maybe its not because that’s way more interesting.

Which leaves us with the “Wesley’s been gone since he left in journeys end and no one knows where the fuck he is” situation. Which is. Looks over the the side. Which is pretty prevalent in beta canon -_- And that makes the whole goodbye scene in journeys end really tragic!! Like Bev didn’t know he was going to just disappear like that and that’s the last time she saw him! #1 Reason I cant watch that scene without! The

The. -_- you cant ever really know thats the last time i’d see my brother ansel.. Moving Onnn. But wesley just being Gone makes a lot of sense continuity wise and sort of explains all these gaps where it makes logical sense to bring him up but no one does. It’s a sort of “no one really talks about him” vibe. I don’t really think wesley would choose to stay away that long but at least it gives significance to him leaving. Which is better than treating it super casually like you don’t just drop off the face of the universe because you’re normal. And ready to come visit every few months. Picard is literally a soap opera show so I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with this option.

Whichhhh leads into speculation for this season. Jack 2 coming forward as Bev’s son like. If they dont mention Wesley at all here I Will Kill Myself consider this my suicide note. So it’s the perfect place to put in a little “well beverly other son has uhhhhh been like... gone...” Just one line is all we need for confirmation.. Please god. It wouldn’t make sense for wesley to be around and somehow not know about his secret brother and be fine with bev just cutting herself off from the crew for 20 years and also not be aware at all of all the time travel shit going on last season.

Little sidenote. Everytime in the show that wes has been in danger bev just fucking shuts down (and vice versa we love the Normal Fucking Crusher Family) . Theres a comic run where she thinks he’s dead for like two weeks and just doesn’t mention it or deal with that at all. So if wes did just drop off the face of the earth. I dont think she would handle it well (or handle it at all!) . Because they’re the only family each other has which leads to this like emotionally distant codependency and if she lost her son. after everything else . I think she would fucking cut everyone off and find this new fucking Thing Jack 2 . I’m not aware enough of what the timeline is for the show but “no ones talked to her in 20 years” … like I would be interested in seeing how that lined up. Especially if no one’s seen wesley in 20 years 🤨 Or the more likely option where she just cut everyone off cuz of Jack II (boring, lame) and everyone collectively forgot about her first gay son! Which the show would absolutely do because the world hates dear wesley crusher. I’m not saying this is an accurate prediction I’m talking what would be NARRATIVELY INTERESTING for the goddamn crusher family!

I’m not going to speculate on like “ohhh who’s jack 2s father is he actually bevs son was he adopted” but if. Star Trek Picard writers looking you tearfully and soulfully in the eyes if we get Jack 2 and Wesley interactions... Literally all I want. Ideal dynamic with Jack being like “UGH I hate my stupid older brother who I never met but everyone compares me too because he tragically disappeared and everyones sad about him all the time and no one can mention him he ruined my life!” and Wes being like. Hi ... am I supposed to know who you are. haha. And just leading to the worst buddy comedy ever. Wes has been shownnnn that he’s good with kids and would be a good brother but I think if Jack’s a little cunt to him (likely) he would be a mean bitch back and it would be the most entertaining TV ever shown ever! Again now likely I KNOW. Brining wes back now after being gone that long with all the drama with bev and jack 2… like it would be so interesting man. Option 2 is that we just have like one singular wesley appearance where he shows up and reveals he’s been gay married this whole time and has been having a well adjusted nice normal time for yearsss while the rest of the crew is fighting among themselves and freaking out and he just didn’t help out cuz he didn’t feel like it. and he’s a bit of a mean bitch and then leaves. Number one most unhelpful person in the universe.

hi, maybe its time to step back and take a breath. its ok if u hate good omens! its ur opinion and ur free to do whatever with it! but u cant control whether gaiman wrote another season, or whether other people like it or make art of it. maybe its time to just filter and block good omens tag and move on with ur life. there are still so many other art and stuff for u to discover, and u might find something u actually like!

This will be a long answer:

I don't hate Good Omens. I *love* Good Omens. The book is a constant source of joy and inspiration.

The radio play was a bit weird to me, but it's nevertheless immensely enjoyable.

I can't say anything about the graphic novel yet, but so far it looks good and solid. The only criticism for that I can give so far is that imo it's a little disappointing we got Crowley and Aziraphale in human-shapes in Eden again, when a drawn medium opened up a lot of possibilities for going wild with 'biblically accurate angel' and giant demonic snake. it's a case of YMMV.

No, I love Good Omens. What I hate is that show on amazon with the same name, because that is not Good Omens. Sure, the names are the same and Neil Gaiman is writing the script, but it still is not Good Omens. Because the core of it is missing, the heart.

That is what's making me so angry.

Of course, when you adapt any given story from page to a different medium, there will be changes. Take a moment very early on in the radioplay, when they gave Hastur a mobile phone so he could call up Crowley, leading to Crowley expositioning about the M25. Is it a little clunky? Sure, but for the medium it works.

The show, however, seems to make changes that make no sense for the story or medium.

Now, I give you this: It is unfair of me to lash out at Mr Gaiman like this, for which I apologise. I do not know what made him make these changes. It could, of course and in the worst case, be ignorance and malice. But malicious demands from amazon (after all, the book is very, very, very anti-establishment, if you want, and book!Crowley has no love for people like bezos) could very well be the reason just like being simply at a loss and throwing in whatever's deemed 'will make fans happy'.

We don't know. So, for the lashing out, I do apologize.

But for the criticism, that stands. Because the show is going in directions that are very much the polar opposite of the book.

The book is about humanity, about choice, and how we ALL matter. How there are no chosen ones, how we all have a part in shaping history. Names that go down in history do so because of the actions of many, not because they were predestined to do so.

Which is an amazing, refreshing and, most importantly, hopeful message, that's especially these days needed more than ever it would seem. Look around, how many people think that their actions don't matter because of, amongst others, people like bezos.

But look what the WGA strike accomplished. It was the actions of many, not just those at the picket line, but the support from fans, from all around the world.

But the show? The show is the opposite. Not only does it constantly demean the working class (Crowley likening Lucifer's rebellion to workers' unions so thinly veiled it's fishnet, or now the whole declaring demons (who in the book were akin to the working class while Heaven was posh upper class, and the book very much sided with the working class) especially too dumb to deserve to live (this very much reeks of meddling from amazon, unless Mr Gaiman really is that much of a pretentious, aloof asshole and it's been done on purpose... and seeing how he talks 'bout demons now...)) it also makes Crowley out to be the chosen one type who cannot do wrong. Even when this Crowley messes up, it's always exactly the right thing. Because Crowley did it. With Aziraphale it's the opposite. He can't do right. He has been reduced down to the bumbling, dim sidekick with a crush on the amazing genius chosen one (sound familiar?)

Why? There is nothing in the medium that would have required these changes.

But it gets worse. Both seasons, I give you that, have their good ideas:

Having Crowley and Az return to the bookshop after the birthday party, showing the two throughout history, Muriel, expanding the denizens of Heaven and Hell, yes, those are great ideas. But they are all not used as well as they could.

It's just baffling. The whole show has this bizarre vibe of hating the fans. As if we are (like demons) too dumb to deserve to live. It's what I ramble about. When the show's cinematography decides to frame scenes so supposed eastereggs cannot be missed, when the pacing is off and the editing makes little sense.

What I can give you (and Mr Gaiman) and will do so, is that the script-book for s1 (never checked if there's one for s2) is doing much better. The pacing is more even, the characters are better fleshed out, the flow of the story makes a lot more sense. So what happened?

As said initially, it might be a lot of things, none of them good.

And then we get crass changes to personality and all with characters like beelzebub and the explanation isn't just flimsy, it's frightening. Beelzebub has been stepford-wifed. Suddenly, supposedly by 'the power of love' they're submissive, cozy-wozy, caring, etc.

Love doesn't do that. people don't do a complete 180 just cause they're 'in love' especially when there's been almost no common ground

Beelzebub and Gabriel had their position in their respective companies, and an air of 'wanting to bite people's heads off', but what we have on the show now is nothing that builds up on that. It's really just catering to the fans that were the loudest. The people that are now so eager pairing off demons and angels to 'fix' demons.

Which is simply frightening. Especially looking at how they justify it, what they declare romantic in a distinct 'this is romantic in fiction AND IRL' way.

And then there's everything else of s2: Nothing. There's no plot, there's actions to pad out 5 3/4 episodes, but everything feels very 'throw everything and the kitchen sink at the wall, but don't wait what sticks'. Which, yes, could absolutely be amazon's fault again.

It really feels as if the whole season was only there to have the '6-6-8' pattern in the end.

And it makes me angry.

It's great that the WGA won with flying colours, but no matter what you, anon, or I may think about what s3 might bring, you have to admit that what we have right now isn't much of a solid foundation, even if there can now be proper rewrites, more input (so better sounding boards etc)

It makes me sad, it makes me furious, because it is such a great book, and I'm one of those people I want to understand why things happen.

I love Good Omens the book, I'd LOVE to see it adapted to screen proper, I love the creativity of the fandom, but so much of that is now found outside of the the show fans. Which... shouldn't be. We were a weird and creative bunch, even after s1. People began looking into mythology and history to produce amazing works, but now? Now it feels as if people and show try to snuff out every glimmer of creativity, any given bit that isn't 100% the shows canon. When the show itself can't even stick to continuity.

So, as said, you want to talk, my ask box is open. If not, as snarky as this may sound, I'd say practice what you preach and simply block the 'good omens critical' tag, that's what I tag my rambling for.
