Thanks For Nothing (Rafayel/Reader)
✿Fandom: Love and Deepspace

✿Tags: smut, jealousy, orgasm denial, possessive behaviour, taunting, rough sex
✿Word count: 2,360
Rafayel's bodyguard has been neglecting her duties, so he decides to teach her a lesson.
✿A/N at the end!
"I should fire you!"
Rafayel was furious. More furious than she'd ever seen him, stomping across the kitchen as she prepared his dinner. His latest exhibition for his newest collection had been going ever so well, but an altercation had brought a sour end to the night. An altercation that never would have happened if his bodyguard had been paying better attention.
So he'd brought her back to his home, demanding that she make recompense for her carelessness by cooking him dinner. And, feeling guilty, she obliged.
"I pay you well, really well! I take you out to lunch, to museums, I give you more than you deserve and you just throw it back in my face!" He was ranting, his hands on his hips as he huffed and puffed, his cheeks all red. She couldn't help but find the sight a little amusing.
"Rafayel, relax. You're fine, aren't you?" She couldn't take him all too seriously, as Rafayel, like usual, was overreacting. He did not like her answer, or her tone.
"Anything could have happened! I could have been killed! And nothing would have happened had you been doing your job!"
"Nothing did happen! You have a little bruise on your back, that's all!" She retorted. She hadn't realised at first just how upset he was about the whole thing.
He walked right up to her, a scowl on his face.
"It's not little!" He tugged up his shirt to show her the purple mark, no bigger than an egg.
"You've shown me a hundred times already."
"I'll show you a hundred more! Until you start taking being my bodyguard seriously!" He pouted in that childish way that sometimes made her squirm, or smile, depending on her mood.
"I am sorry, Rafayel." She spoke with a sigh, placing a lid on the pot of simmering stew. "But this is gonna taste so good you'll forget all about it." She smiled at him, but he didn't return it, his eyes narrowing, going silent for a few moments.
"You were trying to get under my skin back there, with that guy." He accused, his voice losing its childish whine, taking on a tone more sinister. "I know you were. You were all over him."
Rafayel didn't back away, looking down his nose at her, nostrils slightly flared. "Sat there, sipping wine at the bar like butter wouldn't melt. Throwing yourself at any handsome idiot who gave you attention."
She scoffed at him, folding her arms, looking straight back up at him with a challenging gaze. "And so what if I was?" She challenged. "You're not my boyfriend, I can do as I please." Her eyes lit up with a playful flare. "Are you jealous?"
He took a small step forward, and when she tried to step away, she realised she was caged in, pressed tight against the counter. Yet she wouldn't drop her guard, staring back at Rafayel unphased. Anger twitched across his face.
"You'd love that, wouldn't you?" His hand trailed up the split in her dress, his long fingers dusting delicately against the plush skin of her thigh. She looked radiant in her dark sequin gown, not at all professional, completely unequipped to protect her client, save for one secret weapon. Though it didn't stay a secret for long.
Rafayel plunged his hand up her dress, yanking her gun from its holster in one swift motion.
"I'm afraid stew isn't going to make up for what you did." There was a mischievous glint in his eye, one that actually frightened her. She gasped, reaching out for the gun, but he held it high.
"That's not funny, put that down!" She commanded, but Rafayel only laughed.
"What's the matter, Miss Bodyguard? You don't like feeling unprotected?" He teased, cocking a brow. She groaned, wrestling fruitlessly against him, but he only held her gun higher.
"Rafayel! Stop being stupid!"
"What's stupid is flirting with some random guy at work while your boss is watching." He chided. "Were you gonna go home with him?"
"What? No!"
"I bet you would've. He was getting real touchy with you." Rafayel teased, leaning in closer, smoothing his hand up the opening of her dress, cupping her hip.
He looked her in the eye. He was smiling, dangerously at first, before his devilish expression twisted into that familiar, boyish grin. He placed the gun atop a tall cabinet — out of the way. She released a breath, unaware she'd had one trapped in her throat in the first place.
With his newly freed hand, he grabbed her other hip, lifting her up so that she was sat on the counter before him.
"You fucking asshole." She spat, shoving him away, though he barely budged, laughing, his hands still holding her hips.
"You can't seriously think I was going to shoot you? I'm an artist, not an assassin."
His eyes had softened some, though much of the bitterness he'd harboured in them before had evolved into lust, and he drank in her figure with a lascivious gaze. She noticed a tent growing in his pants.
"I never know what stupid thing you're going to do next."
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever." Rafayel closed the gap between them, catching her lips in a quick but passionate kiss, pulling her forward to press her core flush against his bulge. She huffed, and her arousal swelled.
Goddamnit. How did he have this sort of control over her? No matter how mad at him she was, just one flash of that smile, one wink of his impossible sunset eyes and she folded.
His hands smoothed up from her hips, to her waist, then to her back, locating the zip to her dress and pulling it down slowly. Rafayel broke the kiss, sliding the garment down her shoulders to reveal her breasts.
His slender fingers cupped at her bosom, gently pinching her hardened nipples, slowly teasing her cunt with his clothed erection. She moaned, her lust dampening her underwear. Rafayel chuckled.
"Getting worked up already huh?" He teased, and she curled her leg around his thighs, pulling him closer. Rafayel pinched her nipples tightly, earning a little squeal from his bodyguard.
"You're lucky I still wanna fuck you. Seeing you with that guy really put me off." He stopped pinching to unbutton his pants. She scowled.
"Get over it would you?" She jabbed, swiftly sliding down her panties.
He tutted, pooling up her dress at her waist and spreading her legs, baring her glistening cunt. Rafayel parted her folds with his thumb, gently circling her clit with the digit.
"You have such an attitude. You really should be more grateful, considering you're such a bad bodyguard."
She whined, heat flushing over her body as Rafayel touched her. She looked back at him, defiant, she couldn't take his smug expression despite how turned on she was.
"A... a waiter tripped into you– and you fell over!" She huffed the words out through her mewls. "It's hardly like– you were attacked!"
At that, he slid a finger inside of her, expelling the words from her mouth in one simple motion. She gasped from the pleasure, her mouth gaping like a fish, and he grinned at the sight of her. He gave her little time to adjust before sliding in a second finger, pumping in and out of her mound at a fervent pace.
"What was that? You got something to say?" He taunted, but she could only whimper, her defenses melting against him with ease. "Yeah. That's what I thought."
She'd been over this routine with Rafayel a hundred times already: They'd fall out over something ridiculous, more often than not it was his fault, but it didn't take them long at all before they were all over each other again, extinguishing their squabbles over sex. It usually worked a treat, and she certainly wasn't complaining. Any complaints she might have had poofed into dust with one click or pump of his fingers. She was completely wrapped around them, at his mercy.
"You're so wet for me, cutie." He chimed, picking up the pace. Rafayel's voice was smooth and composed, yet the look in his eye was anything but. There was a fire in his gaze that burned so bright it put his Evol to shame.
She moaned, her eyes shutting as she desperately tensed around him, trying to draw as much friction as she could with her lubricious walls. It was akin to trying to grasp a slippery bar of soap in one's hands. Rafayel drew his fingers out of her with a resounding pucker.
He quickly whipped his erection out from his underwear, readying it at her dripping cunt. He was very thick, especially at the head, with more than enough length to satisfy her aching lust. Rafayel brought his tip to her lips, coating it in her wetness and sliding himself teasingly against her folds. Impatient, she tried to slide herself around him, but he stopped her with a firm clamp to her thigh.
"Nuh-uh. If you want it, you'll have to say please ."
She looked up at him, scowling despite her desperation, and he sent a shit-eating grin back at her. Rafayel was loving every minute of this. He knew she wasn't capable of refusing him.
For a few moments, she was silent, but as a particularly persuasive jolt of pleasure shot down her spine, she soon changed her mind.
"Please." She whined, her tone earnest but scathing. It was good enough for Rafayel. With a shaky breath, he entered her.
By now, she was used to the glorious way he felt inside of her. She loved the initial pinch of his fat head against her walls, no matter how aroused she was, he always required a little bit of adjustment. Just one stroke and she was filled instantly, so satisfied she could have orgasmed merely from the warming sensation of him inside of her. Once Rafayel's cock was completely engulfed, he began to fuck her, and far from delicately.
One of his hands snaked its way to her backside, spreading its grip over her rump and hip, guiding her movements. His other hand roamed to her chest, bouncing and massaging her breasts. She moaned, loud, wrapping her legs around his hips to keep him close.
Rafayel dipped his head, catching her mouth in a quick kiss, one with a heat that lingered on her lips, before he trailed those kisses down her neck, to her collarbone, nipping at it restlessly. She had to muffle the sounds with her palm, her eyelids squeezed tightly shut as she tried to compose herself. But Rafayel quickly snatched her wrist, pinning her arm to the wall behind them.
He sank his teeth into the tautest section of her neck, biting harshly, before soothing the bruise with his tongue. The sounds of his grunts and groans reverberated against her, making her sensitive skin ripple like the sea beneath a skipping stone. She clung desperately to his back, her only outlet for the intense pressure in her body.
He pulled away, looking back at her, though he didn't cease, pounding feverishly into her pussy. Rafayel looked a little disheveled, with his hair touseled and clothes sticky from the heat, but compared to her he was the picture of perfection. She looked a mess, with angry bruises peppering her skin, which was hot and sticky from sweat.
"You like that, don't you?" He purred, knowing full well what her answer would be. "Aren't you a lucky girl?" He pinched her nipple, tightly. "Aren't you lucky that I'm fucking you after what you did?"
"So lucky." She slurred, her fighting spirit had melted entirely at the command of his hips, moaning uselessly as he slammed into her. Rafayel looked intense, as if he was about to burst any minute. He took a firm hold of her jaw.
"Good girl." His voice was deceptively soft, the condescending tone all but undetectable when his arousal was so potent.
Then somehow, Rafayel managed to thrust even faster, his hips jackhammering into her at a dizzying pace, making tears sting her eyes and her thighs quiver uncontrollably. A big, hard knot formed in her stomach, sending a wave of heat that wracked her form.
"Ra- Raf- I'm!" She rasped, but he came first, shooting streams of hot and sticky spend deep inside of her swollen core. He heaved heavy breaths, pulling out of her with a wet thunk. She still hadn't finished. She'd been so close, and still she was so expectant, clenching her walls and whining at the loss of pressure as his seed oozed out of her.
But still he huffed and puffed, a dazed grin on his face, looking back smugly at the desperate mess he'd created on the counter. She wanted— needed him back, badly.
"I'm so close Raf, can you just...?" She gestured, a little frustrated. But Rafayel made no effort to assist her, wiping his cock down and tucking it back into his pants.
"And where were you tonight? When I needed you?" Her heart sank at his words.
"You can't be fucking serious–"
"Oh, I'm completely serious."
And one look his way confirmed that. She was so mad she thought she might cry.
"It hurts, doesn't it? When someone isn't there for you when you need them most? When you're waiting, desperately, for them to come back and finish what they started, to do their job, but they never do?"
He was taunting her now, but she said nothing, staring daggers at him. The thick bubbling of the stew filling the tense and silent kitchen. He sauntered over to the pot, taking a spoon and sipping the meaty broth. He hummed.
"Mm. Y'know, you're right — this might actually be good enough to make me forget all about it." He grinned, grabbing a bowl and dishing himself up. She stared back at him, rage bubbling behind her eyes, but her body was frozen in place.
Rafayel looked unphased, taking his bowl and walking away. "You can go now." And with that, he switched off the kitchen light and retired to his room for the night.
A/N: Sorry I made him so mean 😭 hope you enjoyed anyway! I think I'll write a sweet pt.2 to make up for it

Um, yes we want to save Raquelle in Snowflakes! At least then SOMEONE is getting saved in that au!
It balances things out within the timelines too. If two go, one survives! My girl either gets corrupted or murdered in the other timelines.
Therefore!
In normal apologies: Noir & Raquelle corrupted/killed; Adeleine Saved
White haired noir Au: Adeleine & Raquelle Corrupted/killed; Noir Saved.
Snowflakes AU: Noir & Adeleine Corrupted/Killed; Raquelle Saved!
(Unless you count the Au where Noir gets chopped up by the blade, Raquelle gets murked off-screen, and Adeleine becomes an emotionless husk...)
Also, I mean all this in good fun! I'm not criticizing you're storytelling or timelines, or any of that! Also, I noticed the hints! Didn't know Raquelle was a good artist...!
You're not wrong! And Dess does love when things are in balance!
As for poor Raquelle, much like Noir himself, her overwhelming unluckiness stems from the fact that she was kinda created to be a victim. It's taken some work to find ways to make her happy!
(I've got a post written to go up once "A Cold Hell" reaches a crescendo that might explain the unfortunate reason why she gets the short end of the stick more often than not, but that aside...)
>Didn't know Raquelle was a good artist...!
YESSSSS! For ONCE, Dess's hinting worked as intended! /lh
She's got a long way to go, mind (she really does... Raquelle did not start out good at art, despite spending all that time with Adeleine. Then again, Noir never picked up art either.) but she'll make it! She's got, well, a lot of time following her Dark Matter corruption, but most importantly she's got a VIVID imagination! ^_-
#Apologies AU#Raquelle (Dark Rimura)#a~nd...#well I'll save that tag for when it actually happens#Speaking of I wrote a short comic script about it~#Which I can actually share now that someone's guessed it!#(As well as the logic behind the decision obvs!)#Might take a bit to get it out though cause it's ME ^^;;

Do y'all ever think about how it's possible that Zeus' first verse in Thunder Bringer is about Penelope and his second is about Odysseus?
She's a "Damsel in Distress" (She's cool af, she just needs some help and misses her idiot), the suitors are prideful and hope to do what Zeus is singing about to her. Pressuring her to choose. Her "true nature" is revealed when her trickery with the shroud is found out .
The 2nd Verse about how Zeus is also the God of Justice and punishing them for the crew's crime of slaying the cattle. Odysseus saves himself to see Penelope again, meaning his crew/people will die. They died for touching Helios' cattle. Odysseus also saves himself AND Helps Penelope by killing all the suitors for their crime of flirting with/bothering Penelope and making her cry, while also bullying and eventually planning to kill his son. Many of Ithaca's men are killed for their pride too. Thinking that they're worthy of Penelope when Nobody is. Flirt with the Wife, you get the knife.
Penelope and Odysseus DO take each others' suffering away when they reunite as well. 🥹
#“Mads you always put Penelope in everything-” WELL THEN SHE SHOULD STOP BEING EVERYWHERE AND IN EVERYTHING#ngl I'm very surprised that there are no animatics that depict Penelope in the first verse. showing how Zeus is fucking with Ody's head#or even just Odysseus SEEING Penelope in the “Damsel” that Zeus would be manipulating and being horrified.#therefore adding more weight to Odysseus decision at the end of the song. also foreshadowing the suitors ;~;#I'm the last person EVER to want to see Penelope in anything like that but the angst potential. (plus it's not actually her. it's a cloud)#it could also be with the first verse being about Odysseus too though... (I mean What Zeus is talking about happens to Ody in the Odyssey)#His “pride” that made him choose himself over his crew is because of his damsel in distress. He has to see Penelope again.#completely understandable and reasonable. Everyone knows that when given the option you always choose Penelope😌#(except if it's between Penelope and Telemachus because if you choose her she'll fucking kill you for not saving her son lol)#Mad rambles#shot by odysseus#essay#epic the musical#epic the thunder saga#thunderbringer#thunder bringer#penelope of ithaca#penelope#odysseus#if any of you tag this as “Odyssey” I'll be mad >:( This is about Epic. They're very different. both wonderful. but different.#odypen#zeus#I hope this makes sense lol

Big Ol' Rottmnt Fic Rec List
Hi, I've needed to do this for a while, so here's a big bundle of fic recs from me !
I've broken it down between one shots, chaptered fics, and series. I'll try to mention what the character focus is along with a brief summary and some personal thoughts. If you need more details I encourage you to check the fics summary and tags for yourself! I will only include an author's tumblr account if it's easy for me to find haha
One Shots
Mama's Boy - ashtreelane: Technically two chapters but it feels like a one shot. Casey Jr. angst, involving him finding out that maybe you can fix kraang infections and that he failed to save his mother. I love when people really pile the grief on Junior after all the fighting is over and the fic does it so well.
Forget-Me-Nots - GibbousLunation (AKA @klunkcat ): Hi, oh my god??? Leo and Mikey centric angst, in which saving Leo from the prison dimension has an insane ripple effect. Mikey dying? Nah he's going to start getting erased from every timeline and Leo slowly watches it happen (and refuses to do nothing about it). I utterly adore how this fic handles this concept. You see almost all of it from Leo's POV, noticing the little changes but writing them off as memory failures, because of how subtle some of it is.
Fight or Flight - pickledcarrotsandradish: Leo centric, post movie, Leo keeps waiting for his family to start lecturing him about all the dumb stuff he did during the invasion, and they aren't, so it's getting to him. A very neat narrative about how self loathing can warp our perception of how others see us. A++++
The Friend Zone Sounds Pretty Good, Actually - Cryptvokeeper: Eating this, eating this. You probably already know I love aroace Leo and this fic is an INCREDIBLE exploration of that. Even as just an ace person it hit SO many notes where I was just like "Oh god... I've been there buddy". And as a bonus the dynamic between Leo and Yuichi is v sweet. Love this a lot I've read it like five times.
Pink in The Night - unnamedmystery: Incredible April/Sunita fic. Like seriously this author wrote April's crush so well I think I was starting to fall in love with Sunita. Just incredibly cute all the way through, and great April writing, adore it.
《 until then, matriarch 》 - chiangyorange: HI OH MY GOD A nice chunky oneshot about Karai, about her being a leader, and it's phenomenal. It hits and hits and does not miss, really going in depth about her emotions involving her father turning into something wicked and having to destroy him, and how it ruins all of her good memories.
The Kindness of Collision - SpoonerizedSwiftness (AKA @splickedylit ): Hi I still remember the fic and the art suddenly showing up in the tag and then I was thinking about it for the next like five weeks aslkdjf A very interesting idea that when the turtles reach the age they were in the doomed timeline before things got reset, all the memories of their other life more or less hit them like a train. All of them have to comb through that information and it's a wonderful and emotional ride.
Chaptered Fics
Hamartia - Punable (in progress): Hi this is one of my all time favorite rise fics, mainly because in a way, it helped me come to terms with my chronic pain. It's Donnie centric and smack full of angst in all the best ways. Shorthand summary, an explosion in Donnie's lab almost takes him out (or kind of DOES take him out) and the recovery is not only long and agonizing, it may only go so far, and Donnie doesn't cope well with that.
Kick It Up a Notch - Brokenpitchpipe (completed): Hi this is my other all time fav rise fic. Donnie centric separated AU in which Donnie is raised by Draxum. My love for it stems a lot from the characterization of Donnie though, and even Draxum in this case. Not to mention that in a lot of cases it matches the vibes of the show. And in spite of all the humor, there's a few really gut wrenching moments. 10/10 will re-read.
Lightning in Our Fingertips Today - DaFlangsLairde (AKA @daflangstlairde-art) (completed): Leo and Donnie centric, mostly angst, with body swapping between the twins which results in Donnie finding out that Leo's ninpo hurts him. Love love love the character writing in this, and also how the swap is written.
Under Pressure - ParvumAutomaton (completed): Not sure this is a single character focused fic, but basically April goes cave diving and is out for a while, and the turtles get worried and go looking for her. This might be personal bias but as someone who gets really into caving stories, this fic hits the spot for so many reasons. A really great emotional ride, and if you wanna see April go through it then I super recommend it.
Nothing Haunts Us (like the things we don't say) - mad_and_thick_as_theives (completed): A lot of great fics by this author btw, but this one personally stood out to me. It starts of silly and light only to sweep in with the emotional weight. Turtles are all cursed with a truth spell, basically, but I think my favorite bit is who gets out of it first (and why). V sweet.
Creation of a Philospher's Stone - IgnisCanis (completed): Whoooo boy, if you want some Draxum centric character exploration this is a great one. It really fleshes him out as a morally grey character and also does a fantastic job at writing Mikey when he finds out.
The Ol Switcheroo - radishhqueen (AKA @radishhqueen) (completed): Haha not going to lie I have a few by this author (so I'll only tag them once) but MAN. Hands down my favorite take on future leo coming to the past, and maybe I'm biased because I like when those fics actually explore Junior's character in the process buuuuut I love it. Junior's already struggling to adapt himself to the present, and after getting caught up in a foot clan spell which summons his sensei to the present too it really doesn't get any easier.
Vigilantism for Fun and Profit - radishhqueen (completed): The Cassandra Jones fic ever. Zero contest. If you're uncertain about writing Cassandra because she had so little development in the show I encourage you to read this for inspiration (I know it inspired me a lot). It does such a great deep dive into her character post show and a bit of the movie too. Honestly anytime radishh has a Cassandra fic I am clicking.
Tried to Grow Up Good - Sroloc_Elbisivni (AKA @sroloc--elbisivni )(completed): The Casey Jr. fic ever. CRAZY in love with this post movie take on him. It's messy, it's fun, it's so so real and you get a good chunk of Casey Sr. in here too. Adore it.
Hold On (Or Three Times Donatello's Soft Shell Almost Killed Him, and One Time it Saved His Life) - dunk_on_em (AKA @spockazilla )(completed): If you ever want a bit of angst involving Donnie's shell this is my go to. Every chapter has an emotional swing, even the positive ones. And shows something most people might see as a disadvantage as a good thing, actually.
Atlas, My Brother - swampcryptid (AKA @the-name-is-rizzotherat)(in progress): Get your Raph angst, specifically involving him always shielding his siblings, this time via a curse. My guy is already going through it and I think it'll get worse if a solution isn't found.
I've Got You Under My Skin - Cass_Phoenix (in progress): More Raph angst, and some Donnie, a truly chilling exploration of the possible consequences to connecting with the kraang. This fic constantly has me on the edge of my seat, and constantly stressing for Raph.
What We Leave Behind (How We Start Anew) - iam57311 (AKA @iam-57311)(in progress): Any Baronjitsu fans here? An alternate take on canon in which Draxum and Splinter co-parent the kids since they're first born (made?) Hilariously while I love the Baronjitsu content in here, I think some of my favorite parts are actually with the sisters, Big Mama, and Draxum's sister who is so so cool I love her.
Proof of Redemption - iam57311 (complete): Another one of theirs! A short and sweet lil close to canon fic about Draxum steadily gaining the trust and affection of the Hamatos, with each chapter focused on a different character. I love how they're all paced out from each other, really hits how some are much slower than others to trust Draxum hehe.
No Crime* Only Brooches - OllieTheScribe (AKA @olliethescribe) (in progress): Well I have to get THE HypnoWarren fic in here. Such a fun take on these characters, I love love love the backstory they built up for Warren too, plus the dynamic between these two and the turtles after (eventually) become friends haha.
Minor Interference - bambiraptorx (AKA @bambiraptorx) (in progress): What can I say? This fic is delightful. Between the hilarity of the turtles going with Draxum just to mess with him, the lore additions for yokai and the Hidden City, HoH Donnie, and their slowly building dynamic, always eager for a new chapter with this one.
Series
A Butterfly with a Mechanical Wing - Amethyst_Goldenwind (AKA @amethystgoldenwind ): Donnie centric series about being a non-verbal autistic. I'm always fond of non-verbal/mute explorations of characters, and so far I really like how, because his family has grown up with it, all of it is very normal for them. The various forms of communication are delightful. Excited to see further entries.
Analogous Hues - alwerakoo (AKA @alwerakoo): It's a separated AU with similar titling themes as my own, needed to check it out. The titles are just about all they have in common though! This AU focuses a lot on the turtles (Raph and Leo with Splinter and Donnie and Mikey with Draxum). I love how this explores not only the dynamics of the two groups and how different they are, but also the dynamics between each of the siblings, also how some magic sibling connections can influence that. Not to mention the different home life in more ways than one. If you're into separated AUs that really dig into the turtles dynamics try this one out !

Promise — 約束
SatoSugu ⋅ fem reader
NOTE — so sweet !! thank you, i'm so happy you look forward to my works :) i hope u like what i made of this, the idea just kinda happened
WARNINGS — angst with fluff / comfort (it's not actually sad the boys are just distressed because you got hurt), implied injury / near-death experience (reader)
" THEY WHAT ?! ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS ?! " Satoru yelled like you had never seen him yell before. He was seething, eyes ablaze.
" This has to be a mistake... oh, angel, don't cry, come here. " Suguru talked to you soothingly.
You had come to them and told them the news through chokes and sniffles. It stung their hearts to see you so petrified.
An especially frightening mission had been assigned to you. Usually, these two overprotective boys tagged along with you or just did it themselves to save you the burden and pain of using your straining technique. But that wasn't an option this time, for some reason.
" I have a bone to pick. " Satoru grumbled, storming off violently.
Suguru had been practically cradling you in his arms to try and soothe your nerves.
" Satoru ! Don't do something rash — ah, shit, 'gotta go after that madman or he'll kill someone. Okay, you stay with Shoko, alright ? She's in the main hall by the vending machines. Relax. Satoru and I will sort everything out. Drink some water and rest — and no cigarettes with Shoko. "
So the boys went to complain to the higher ups, and though admittedly they were shaken up by Satoru's violently aggressive attitude, they didn't budge.
" ARE YOU ALL OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MINDS ?! "
" Satoru, calm down. " Suguru said. That's when Satoru finally calmed down.
" We're the strongest, let us take on this mission instead. " Suguru tried to reason.
Satoru's voice subtly shook when he spoke, residual anger lingering in his throat. His heart was beating heavily. " Y/n's weak. " he said. A harsh truth. " Too weak to take on a special-grade like that. "
Suguru tended to butter you up and call you strong, but Satoru was brutally truthful; you were much, much weaker than the both of them. Ever since they had met you, they felt this overwhelming urge to protect you with their lives.
Then they tried to convince the higher ups that you were " too weak " to do it. But they still didn't budge. In fact they glowered at the two students.
" You think I can't do it myself ! I'm a fucking god ! I could snap that thing in half with my fingertips ! " Satoru went into a sudden self-induced power trip, but Suguru stood besides him and silently agreed. Of course he could do it himself, he was Gojo Satoru.
Storming off again, Satoru left to go find you. And Suguru followed after his steps.
" Shoko ? Where did Y/n go ? She was supposed to be with you. "
" . . . uh, she walked right past me earlier and when I asked where she was headed, she said something about Roppongi ? " Shoko had her head in her hands and a lit cigarette between her fingers.
" God fucking damn it, that idiot. " Satoru's heart panged with worry.
" Save some limbs for me to rip off. " Suguru joked.
" Let's go get her. " Suguru said.
" I swear to fuck . . . I'll fucking rip that thing to limb by limb if it even so much as grazes her skin. " Satoru seethed.
" You two are gonna get reprimanded for this, you know. "
Satoru waved his hand dismissively and left with Suguru.
You were in the midst of battle, bleeding and panting. Covering your ears, you were just about to succumb to your paralyzing fear when suddenly your two saviors sliced right into the scene. You caught a glimpse of the most feral, raw look in Satoru's eyes; pure vengeance, it was almost artful how he pulled apart the cursed spirit.
" Angel, it's okay now, We're here. " Suguru comforted you, lifting your limp body and holding it like a baby. " You did good. Don't try to move, you must be in a lot of pain. I've got you, don't worry. Oh — Satoru, that was quick. Are you trying to show off for her ? Just teasing. "
You listened to the lullaby-like voice of Suguru and let your eyes flutter shut. The last image in your vision was that of a panting, blue-eyed boy who looked so startled to see you in poor condition. He looked about ready to cry.
Their voices sounded like distant echoes to you as you drifted into a half-conscious state, leaning more on the unconscious side.
" . . . I could kill those old fucks right now. "
" Satoru, calm down. She's going to be alright. Let's just get her to Shoko. "
" I hate seeing her like this. "
" Me too. But she'll be okay. "
" Angel, still with us ? Satoru, just breathe. She's really going to be okay. Don't cry or you'll make me cry, too. "
" Sh-she's so damn stubborn. Stubborn a—nd st-stupid. Why'd you run off by yourself like that. Y-you stupid weakling . . . "
You could hear Satoru distantly crying, and he didn't stop until after Shoko tended to you. The boys kept close, soothingly stroking your arms and cheeks to keep you conscious.
Nothing can explain the relief they felt when they saw you stirring-to again.
" Hey, sleepyhead. " Suguru's tender smile was the first thing you saw.
Satoru's lips were parted, his face paler than ever. He looked so relieved and yet shocked to the bone, like he'd just gone through the worst day of his life.
" Welcome back to the land of the living. " Shoko greeted, cleaning up the blood on your cheek. " You know, you made the boys cry. Satoru even had a snotty nose like a little kid. "
" Shut up . . . "
Satoru heard how dry your throat was when you spoke, and promptly shoved his half-full water bottle in your face, hastily drying his eyes on his uniform sleeve. Like the in-sync duo they were, they worked together to help you drink; Suguru held the back of your head, and Satoru tilted the water bottle into your mouth. Of course he spilled a bit, two rivulets of water went down either side of your jawline and tickled your neck.
" . . . was just . . . trying to show you two . . . that I'm not weak . . . but I guess I am. I'm Sorry. " you choked, voice barely above a whisper.
Their hearts sunk deep.
" You're not weak . . . " Satoru choked up too, eyes only recently dried of tears and yet fresh ones began tipping over his bottom lid, wetting his angelic lashes. " You're not weak, I'm sorry I say that all the time. I shouldn't have . . . I just . . . would rather convince you you're weak so you'll call on us all the time, 'n n-never r—r-risk los—ing y—ou. " he suddenly sobbed at the end, realizing how deeply he cared for you.
Suguru was on the verge of tears, too, because of the sight of his best friend sobbing like a hurt puppy and also because of what he had just said.
" . . . don't cry, you two. A—ahah, Sh-Shoko don't you cry with them ! Or I'm gonna cr—yh. "
" Very graceful, Satoru. " Suguru joked.
" . . . thanks. " you thanked them.
" Don't say thank you. "
You could barely make out the complicated sentence that Suguru said next, it was something like;
" You'll never be undeserving of our protection. " and " So never say thank you. "
That day, they didn't just promise to keep you safe, they vowed it. Weak or not, strengthened or not, they felt compelled to be at your side.
Through the long passage of time, they never break their vow to keep you safe, even when Satoru and Suguru part paths. You're never an enemy to either of them, you're always their baby.
It's a tough reality to accept that one of your closest friends has become a murderous cult leader, and the other has become a lonely god. But they still visit you. Sometimes you three will hang out altogether in secret — so risky, but worth it, to see the two of them smiling with you even though you had very few things to smile about during your adulthood.
The sweet, comforting feeling of the adolescent memories made with them carries through all the years.

Ramon had a cute idea for the Huevitos (members of Fit's community) to fill the #ramonbday tag with art and kind messages so he can show them to Fit for his birthday (February 1st), so here's my contribution! I have over 800 Fit-related clips, so it was hard to choose just a few fun moments from stream :'D
Even though the QSMP server won't be open until February 3rd, we still have a few more days to share messages, art, etc. – so if you'd like to post something for Ramon to potentially include in Fit's birthday surprise, make sure to post it by January 31st and use the tag #ramonbday!

Hey, Mishka!!!
I've been replaying TWC over the last couple of months, and must say, it's been an entirely rejuvenating experience for me. Like, I was reading it the first time, although I've replayed the series quite too many (worrying number) of times already. And it still manages to amaze me, EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I've repeated this in the past, and I'll repeat it again. The Wayhaven Chronicles is a blessing for me and I'm sincerely thankful to have come across it when I did. And I'm grateful to you for making this lovely world a reality (and of course, the four beautiful vamps)! Really eager for Book 4 and have already player the demo; can say it's gonna be worth the wait. It every time is.
Replaying the series in the last few months, I had a certain uncontrollable urge to drop and ask a few questions to you. Apologize in advance for the long ask and message, but it had been bottling up inside of me for SOOOOOO LONG.
1. In Book 1, when we're to lead the investigation in one of the three directions, is there any way to get success in any direction without Bobby making a big joke out of our investigation in the newspaper?
2. In Book 2, when Nicole and Max Salinas come to report their incident, can Tina actually find out anything unusual? If so, what is actually needed to explain that?
3. In Book 3, I noticed if we choose to go the final mission alone, depending on the route chosen, Boddy/Doug will end up tagging along as well, jeopardizing everything. Is there still a way to complete the mission successfully and rescuing everyone like it happens when we go along with Rebecca?
4. Less of a question, but more of a plea. Please tell me we can get a pet anytime in the series. I was just curious if we can get one.
5. How powerful is the big baddie in Book 4 compared to Unit Bravo? You don't need to answer if this verges on spoiler-y territory.
Really sorry to overwhelm you with this, but it's just months and months of joy, happiness, and sheer ecstasy making me blabber on about this world like this. Thanks once again, for making this truly beautiful story, world, and the vampires a reality.
Have a good day!!!! Lots of love from India!!
You can never play a game you love too many times (I keep telling myself that as I gradually burn a hole into my poor old console playing Dragon Age over and over, lol!)! If it brings you happiness, then that's what is important! :D
Ok, let's see about the questions...it's been a whole since I've gone through the older games without being in editing mode, hehe!
I don't think so...Bobby is, well, Bobby. And that scene was there very much to establish their character and show the player what type of person they are.
I don't think so, again. If there's anything unusual or odd, then I usually like to let the MC find that instead of it happening 'off-screen' so it's more impactful for the player—unless it's Verda discovering stuff, because that needs to happen for…reasons.
Iirc, in the Bobby/Doug routes, you get the auction scene, so a lot of that branch involves focusing on saving yourself! But the other team that joins Unit Bravo will help in saving a lot of the captives in that version.
I would love that being a massive animal companion fan myself, hehe! But likely not, just because the MC is away a lot from home, and that's unfair on the pet, even a fictional one, lol. I was tempted to give the MC a supernatural pet that hung around at the facility—that was definitely a strong idea at one point just so I could write a pet in the series for those that wanted it (me, I was the one who wanted it, hehe!) :D
**BOOK FOUR DEMO SPOILERS AHEAD** It's not just that Book Four's villain is terrifyingly powerful (or will be. They are, thankfully for the MC and UB, in a weakened state for a while due to what's happened to them and what happened in Chapter Two) but it's a lot to do with the fact that their power specifically counteracts and weakens Unit Bravo's. So that's a double whammy!
Thank you SO incredibly much for the amazing message! It means more than you can know <3

Pairings: Gojo x f! reader
Tags: kitchen sex | raw doggy | food play | livin for toxic! gojo | male masturbation | dubcon | nipple play | arousal from possibility of getting caught | virginity loss | 'her' is used to refer to reader
a/n: this one's inspired by stargirl interlude because it had a chokehold on me since last year (also saw an art depicting the song like damn), might make a masterlist/event of these pieces that's inspired by explicit media hmm
gojo never knew why a person like you is working as one of his clan's maids. his six eyes sensed it the first time he saw you. the amount of cursed energy surging in your body is comparable to the average sorcerer. you already possess the minimum requirement to be qualified in jujutsu society, yet why are you here holding a tape measure and draping expensive fabric over his naked body?
satoru had to bite back a moan when your fingers ghosted over his stomach but the little sound he made didn't escape your ears. you momentarily stopped at his waistline, glancing up and making eye contact with your young master.
oh how you looked so delectable in satoru's eyes.
'so this is what you'd look like if you were sucking on my dick' he thought. and for someone who has the six eyes, his senses were on fire at that moment, something stirring in his pants with the strong flood of lust.
it was all because of your eyes that the sun glazed upon, lashes fluttering, and the cute questionable look on your face that appeared for a moment. then you got back to what you were doing as if nothing happened.
he noticed your shaky exhale though.
his member was growing beneath the kimono, looking up to the ceiling and biting his lip to control himself. but each touch on his body has him reeling as he suddenly let out a thunderous cough. your fingers froze in shock just at his knees.
satoru smacks his lips. "um-well I think that's enough for today. I'll just send the remaining measurements."
"yes young master" you reply as you immediately drew back and helped remove the kimono on his shoulders, satoru shrugging it off and putting his clothes back on.
he looks at you for a second. "I'll be back a few weeks later. Just in time for that old man's birthday." he says while wearing his shoes, his attention turning to scan your lowered body.
feeling the gaze of someone, you met his eyes once more. the inexplicable tension that lingered between the two of you filled the room. eyes speaking to each other amid the silence, attempting to know what the other was feeling.
then the six eyes sense someone approaching. satoru slides the door and exits without looking. one thing he noticed was your eyes, mesmerizing for some kind of reason. 'how do I describe it?' satoru asks himself, clutching his chin and letting his mind do the work.
he concludes that he found it to be full of life, a refreshing sight to look at amidst the dead eyes of the other servants.
he left you clenching the silk fabric, inhaling and exhaling in an attempt to hold back the pooling arousal. then how do you describe his gaze? you tell yourself satoru would never look at you like that but something inside you tells it was lustful.
gojo longed for you just as much to the point he's actually waiting for an old geezer's birthday party. counting the days 'til he sees you once more, to lock eyes and finally make a move on you—
"fuck" gojo groans, tapping his head to stop you from plaguing his thoughts. he's too damn busy saving the world to even think about a girl he just met. but he shivers in his seat when he remembers how you touched his body with your deft fingers and how ecstatic his heart gets that his dick responds by rising. is it too much to think about how good you'd be in bed?
in the quiet confine of his office, he began to pull his pants down while the hem of his shirt gets taken between his teeth, muffling the huffs of breath he makes. he's a moaner so of course he'll silence himself.
"oh fuck fuck fuck." he takes out his hard cock, wrapping his hand around it and hissing at the contact. satoru was supposed to say your name but he forgot to ask for it with the way his life being a sorcerer was hectic. nonetheless, he continues pumping up and down, closing his eyes and imagining it's your sweet pussy enveloping him. "you take me so good" satoru coos.
your quiet self turned into a cockdrunk whore would be his biggest fantasy, he'd be asking you if it'd hurt yet he'll go on anyway if you said yes coz he knows a good girl like you can take it. your kind always takes him the best.
a grin broke out on his face as he fists it faster, squeezing and tightening his hold like a real pussy would, imagining every filthy thing you'd do just to get him off. and that's where his mind created the idea of you masturbating to the thought of him too, touching yourself at your private quarters and craving to be filled with his cock.
it tips him off badly that his eyes squeezed shut beneath his blindfold, hips thrusting into his fist as his hand slides fast on the sensitive member until a muffled moan of "oh oh oh!" gets out at the same time as sticky white substance trickles out of the bulbous head.
he's so lost in his fantasy that he didn't have time to grab the tissue sitting nearby him. gojo sighs, looking at the mess he made on his hand, asking himself why is he pining so much for a nameless maid.
he then reaches for his phone, dialing a dreaded number and waiting for it to pick up. and when they did, he didn't bother listening to the greeting as it was cut off by his straightforward request.
"that maid who assisted me last time, assign her to me. i don't need a team of servants, just that girl is enough. i'll also be coming back to the estate sooner than I expected...what's her name again?"
said maid was getting herself busy at an ungodly hour. you were still so lost in your own orgasm that you just blankly stare at the wetness between your thighs. your kimono hiked up to your waist as you sit on your bed, flustered that you just did something dirty.
your shaky fingers try to touch the puffy folds again but you flinch at the slightest bit, wanting to enter once more to quench your thirst but you're too overstimulated at this point.
you plop back onto the bed, staring at the wooden ceiling and remembering the man who you thought about the whole time you were fingering yourself. masturbation clearly wasn't enough by the way you're immediately clenching your thighs.
"satoru~" you meekly whimper, testing how your tongue would pronounce his name if he's fucking you. and it had you squealing like a teenager with your pussy throbbing, toes curled, and feet kicking.
you needed the real deal. and luckily, both of you were waiting for the same thing.
it was finally the day of the birthday party, a garden one to which gojo scoffs at the pompous herd of people in the courtyard. he could destroy all of this in a flick of a finger but he decides not to spoil a dying man's last year because he has better things to do.
he trudges off to the renovated kitchen, designed to be modernized at his request, contrasting to the rest of the house. whistling with hands in his pockets, luckily, he sees you there decorating the cake of the day diligently. a wicked smile suddenly crept up his lips, tongue smoothing over as he approaches you, unable to conceal the giddy grin he was sporting.
"hey. didn't know you were quite the patissier." satoru leans on the counter, watching you push down the pipe filled with white cream to create decorative toppings. This innocent scene in front of him turns dirty thanks to his sick, perverted mind. You were just doing your job diligently yet it turns him on so much, his member was already painfully hard beneath his kimono.
He's doing his best not to whip it out and make you suck on it.
"do you need something, young master? i apologize that i cannot attend to you right now despite the arrangement. i was suddenly in charge of making the cake since it was-"
"they dumped this on you because they're too lazy to bake a fucking cake. you're getting picked on by the elders, shouldn't you be angry?" he asks and you don't reply as you're intently focused on the cake. one mistake and it could cost you your livelihood.
satoru sighs and passes a hand through his hair, looking at your figure fixated on your job. it looks like you have no reason to entertain this man any longer. "damn and I thought we were getting close" satoru said with false disappointment, watching your eyes slowly look at him and back to your work. he smirked, going around the corner of the counter and at your back where you could feel his large presence looming in, making you feel uneasy for you to suddenly have a shaky hand.
you could feel him closer, fear mixed in with anticipation and satoru senses that very well. he startles you by placing both of his hands on your hips. he also notices how the rise and fall of your chest quickened along with your heartbeat, he thinks it's cute for you to be so nervous around him.
"what happened? why don't you continue making the cake?"
you shook your head, trying to get his mental tricks out of your mind but his physical touch has you whipped. his slender fingers tease you by playing your body like a piano, moving upwards from your waist to settle at the underside of your breasts. your breath hitches, thighs clenching to form some kind of relief in this torture.
"answer me"
"I can't" You breathe out, feeling yourself about to either faint or cry.
"why not?"
"because you're touching me. it's not...appropriate."
satoru let out a "tsk" sound, suddenly wrapping his arms around you and resting his head on your shoulder, wanting to take a peek at your face but you're not letting him. "then is it appropriate for you touch yourself at the thought of your employer? your young master?"
you don't even wonder how he knew that but your eyes got big and whipped your head to look at him, fearing his next choice of words or his criticism of your actions. you might actually get kicked out of the household and live in the streets.
the thought of having no roof above your head scares you that tears spring up to your eyes, throat constricting. satoru's hand move to wipe those tears away, a frown on his face when he saw you about to break down.
"what are you thinking about in that pretty little head of yours? hmm?" he coos closer at you, prompting you to speak. you let a shaky breath first before looking at him intently, bowing down in regret as you apologize.
"I'm sorry, it was inappropriate and I'll make sure it won't happen again-"
"yeah, I'll be mad if I go to your room and find out you're touching yourself." You freeze at his words and satoru had to bite back a laugh at how much he's affecting you. you're just too damn cute, he wanted to pinch your cheeks and smother you with kisses but he'll have time for that later.
"you know why?" he asks directly at you as you shook your head not knowing where this conversation is going.
"because it means I'm not pleasuring you. so for you not to do that anymore, I need to touch you and show you that you need me to feel good. to satisfy that itch between your thighs."
he motions at your clenched thighs as embarrassment filled you. he was too straightforward with his dirty words. your nails dug into the counter, scared of the outcome yet at the same time excited.
"you've taken care of me since I arrived here, you're the only person I care about in this house. so let me be good to you (y/n)." he finally knows your name, and satoru considers himself to be incredibly whipped because out of all the names he knows, yours sound the best.
"w-what are you doing?" you ask, feeling him press his growing member on your butt, rubbing and letting out soft mewls that went straight to your ear. he began grinding upwards with a roll of his body as if getting off on your clothed figure alone. but satoru was a greedy man and he wasn't going to settle for your held-back moans and untouched cunt. he wants you fucked up—dumb, incoherent, cock-hungry—on the kitchen counter with a chance of being seen, dripping with his precious seed that's supposed to be given to a woman with a better pedigree.
"prepping you" he replies.
and the thought of giving out blood pressure and heart attacks by indulging in you gets him all giddy. it's a total win for him when he suddenly rips your kimono with his bare hands, catching you off guard with your wide eyes and open mouth, quickly slipping his tongue in and molding for a french kiss.
it burned your desire even further as you tilt your head upward to get a better taste of him. your inexperienced technique was no match for his skills and gojo smiled when he realizes how sloppy of a kisser you are, loving the sweet taste of innocence on his tongue.
his lips felt plump against yours as is your folds that his long fingers are ghosting over. he then cups it, making you pull out of the kiss yet he attaches his lips over yours again, rendering you breathless.
"be quiet. wouldn't want someone to see this won't you?" he teases as he rips your clothing even further. the stretches of fabric hurt your ears as your whimpers of disapproval were long buried in his mouth.
you were then left naked and cold despite the warmth he was giving by pressing his body onto you, eliminating any space that his bulge sticks to your ass too much. satoru notices this and decides it was time for you to get all sweaty and messy. he has to fuck you right then and there as his dick decides.
the tip of his fingers prods your hole slowly, whispering sweet nothings as you squirm about how it was too big and long. gojo wanted to scoff at that and say something mean but he figured he should be good to you as you are to him.
"look at you, good girl. taking my finger so well, it's better than yours isn't it?" he nuzzles his nose at your neck, biting and sucking at the skin as he adds another finger to which you scream, finding the penetration of two fingers a bit too much. he doesn't even care if you make noise anymore. gojo firmly believes that you shouldn't be holding back moans when you're feeling good during sex, that's why he's going to unravel the slut inside you slowly at a time.
"no, satoru! take it out i'm too stuffed!" you held his wrist to push it away but it doesn't budge one bit. he smirks at how cute you are trying to overpower him and he pushes them deeper, watching you let out a loud moan.
"you called me satoru, i like it. but how are you going to take my cock when a mere finger is too much for you? huh?" he taunts, massaging your walls and pulling out to rip a whine out of you.
"i can take it! i can take your cock!" you suddenly exclaim and satoru takes it as a cue to start pulling it out of its confines.
"why the sudden change of heart?" the hard member twitches in his hand, leaking precum, begging to feel the warmth of your walls, and satoru hisses once he aligns the tip to your hole that's comparingly smaller. "answer my fucking question slut"
he's gonna fucking destroy you and both of you know it.
"owh!" his large hand met your ass, making you jolt in surprise before you reply. "coz it feels good when something's inside me" your voice went smaller with each word that gojo almost didn't quite catch what you were saying, but he did and it rose a smile on his face.
"i love honest girls" he says and pushes in with one quick thrust, opening your cunt wide open and devouring every space inside you, filling you to the brim with a sweep that has your mind reeling. gojo feels insanely thick inside you, giving pain with pleasure that has your pussy pulsing, evoking a low moan from him as he bit your neck.
"ah! ahhh! satoru~" you moan as he starts to move but you're too tight around him that it takes all of his willpower not to slam you on the counter and use you like a fleshlight.
"sweetheart, you're a virgin?" he pants, stopping his movements to let you adjust and feel what it's like to cockwarm. you nod at him shyly and he kisses your cheek then your lips, breaking off the heated exchange with a pinch to your nipple. "you just get so much better. i think i'm in love with you"
gojo then starts to pull out only to rut inside you like an animal, bumping you against the counter that your nails dig and scratch painfully on the flat surface, loosely holding onto the edge for dear life as you scream with each penetration of his big cock.
"satoru! y-you're too much I'm gonna break! aw! oh!" he only laughs at your moans while gripping your hips, giving him good control of how he wants your body to be. he could honestly go worse than this, he could be merciless and not care about your limits but for your first time he'll take it easy on you.
"lift your ass, give me a good arch sweetheart." gojo instructs and you follow, sticking your ass out for him as he pumps in deeper, hitting your sweet spot like he couldn't stop. you could even hear how sexy his moans are along with his balls slapping against you.
"y'know I like sweets"
"what?" you spoke out of confusion and he suddenly swipes a finger on the icing, poking the soft texture deep enough to destroy it, bits and pieces crumbling down in front of you like how hours of effort have been in vain.
you could care less but your heart still dropped, kinda hurt how you made it all pretty only to be destroyed by gojo with a swish of his hand.
he cooed at how your expression looked sad yet he dismissed it by fucking you harder, thinking somehow the pleasure will win you over. "it's just a fucking cake to them. they won't appreciate your efforts no matter what you do, so don't bother."
"i know-" you were supposed to say more but gojo's hand suddenly shoved icing into your mouth, filling it with his large fingers to shut you up yet the skin slapping was no means quiet.
"there's—ohhh! ah~ a—a person coming. they must be looking for me" gojo tries to make coherent sentences between moans, too lost in the feeling of your cunt spasming on him and letting him ease his cock in. your virgin pussy was too good for that it secretly had his eyes rolling back onto his head, the tips of his ears red along with his flush cheeks.
gojo takes his fingers out of your mouth, letting you breathe so you don't black out. "t-then stop! we'll get caught!" you tap his arm, trying to get him off you but you only push him deeper from behind, making him moan.
he may not care about what happens when you get caught because he's always going to be off the hook, yet you know it won't end nicely for a maid like you. fear crept into your body as your shaky eyes could only wait for the figure to come in and see you debauched.
"i'll try to be quiet too" satoru's other hand went over to the cake once more, swiping the white cream to be put at the top of your sensitive peaks. you shiver at the cold sticky feeling. "ready? his head rests on your shoulder and looks up grinning with his blindfolded eyes.
"i wanna see you satoru. take off the blindfold." you whisper and satoru gives a cheeky smile before doing what you wanted.
it was the prettiest shade of blue you've ever seen. like a rare diamond that you would love to stare at forever because it's yours. pulling you in deeper until the only thing you're thinking about is him.
"looks like someone's forgetting who's in charge" gojo whispers back amidst your lovestruck gaze at him. he was used to that kind of gaze thrown at him but there's something different about yours that he wishes he was the only one who receives it.
gojo clears his throat, embarrassingly got lost in your eyes, and had a little daydream of his own. he smiles and looks at the icing melting on your boobs. "oops! gotta clean them up!" he giddily attaches his mouth to one of your nipples, licking and toying them around with his tongue as his way of being quiet. he pinches the other one and pulls, squeezing the mounds to make it harder for you to keep quiet.
you had your eyes shut as gojo was busy sucking on your nipple, addicted to watching your face morph into pleasure and the feeling of your softness between his teeth. he gave kisses to both of the mounds, lapping the area around them while he was thrusting at a slow yet deep pace, one that elicits sobs from you each time he plunges back.
"satoru-! i'm-hmph! ohhhh i-ahhhh" you were beginning to tighten like crazy. as you started reciprocating his thrusts and gojo knew you had to feel him rough to get off. he was very reluctant to leave those peaks, giving them a long final suck before cupping both of them to return to his proper position facing your back.
he was close too, he could feel it coming, he could feel you too.
and so his cock pulls out at an agonizing pace to switch to pounding you into the counter. staccato moans came out from your lips and you had to cover both hands over your mouth to keep it. gojo didn't like that and decided it was time to reveal the little game he played just to taste your titties.
"it's okay, be loud as much as you want. they're in the courtyard having some fun" he says, fixated on your ass jiggling with each thrust, your walls constricting against his cock and that spongy spot he keeps hitting like a goal.
the loud chorus of the happy birthday song began to echo with so many guests outside and it just made you remember how disrespectful you were being, getting fucked by the young master with the sun still out, nonetheless in a space that anyone could walk into.
"i can't!" you choked out words the best you can and satoru scoffed at how ridiculous you were being. he just wanted to hear your fucking moans, wanted to hear how good he makes you feel. if this rhythm isn't enough then he starts to go hard befitting of his stamina, successfully ripping a scream out of you.
he laughed, pushing his slick-covered cock in. "listen, there was no one around in the first place, sweetheart. you don't think i planned out all of this to fuck you in the kitchen just for someone to come ruin it?" each snap of his hips makes you lose your mind, letting him take you from behind as you scramble to organize your thoughts about what he just said. you wanted to look back at him and ask why did he do all of this but the feeling of his large cock surrenders you to him.
"s-stop! ahhh! it-it's coming!" you feel a wave of pleasure washing over you, coming from your center that's still accommodating his girth. it was different than when you do it yourself, it hit hard like a truck that released all your pent-up sexual frustrations, bringing you to a state of clarity yet making you limp like a lifeless ragdoll that's waiting for its owner to stop playing. especially, your poor legs that stand on so little strength.
your arms gave up with your head and laid flat against the counter, not knowing when was this going to stop because your pussy feels incredibly sore each time he slams in. gojo then began to whine like a bitch, saying things about how you're so tight and he's so lucky to get to feel your pussy first. not that anyone will come next.
"fuck fuck!-(y/n)! ohhhh i-i'm coming! take it you fucking slut!" he groans, surprising you by pinching your clit and swirling his hand around your pussy, thrusting with his ass clenched so hard that you actually think the cockhead knocked on your womb with the way you lurched forward for the final time.
"happy birthday to me...feels like my fucking birthday." he mutters to himself, spilling his warm seed deep inside you, watching some of it begin to spurt out despite still keeping you plugged. he wanted to plant himself inside you as a claim of territory, making it clear to you and everyone that from now on, you're his.
"i feel full" you babble and relish at the feeling of being blessed by the gojo heir's seed, some of it already trickling down your thighs. "so tired. feels like I'm going to pass out"
and you did pass out from the fatigue of waking up early to learn a recipe for nothing—and from getting railed on the countertop for the first time.
this won't be the last time as gojo's keeping you for himself. he never wanted anything from this household except for you, his handmaid. so he's gonna call ijichi for a ride, get someone to pack your stuff, and keep you nice and warm in the comfort of his own home.
he's taking you to jujutsu high not for the reason of actually making you useful with your cursed energy. you're way too pretty to fight ugly curses anyway. and he's pretty sure, you would love to have your life turn around and become a princess, his princess.
after all, it was his handmaiden's fantasy.

amelie
Their first official date happens later than both Amelie and Jack would’ve liked.
They have to postpone it twice. The first is because Amelie is assigned to cover an Islanders pre-season game last minute. The second is because Jack forgets that he has a thing with Hockey in New Jersey until the night before. Both of them wanted to get away in Prague with just each other for a few hours but it proved to be too complicated, both with the actual scheduling and wanting to keep it on the down low from the team, especially because they’re not really anything yet and she just started the job and he respects that.
The Devils had asked her to tag along with some of the guys even on their off day to compile some sort of photo collage. They didn’t really give her many instructions, so she took that as an invitation to be creative. She switched between disposable, digital and film and had a lot of fun doing it, tagging along as they did touristy things and enjoyed each other’s company during meals.
At first, she was a bit intimidated at inserting herself into a group of guys who had just met. It took her the first full season of covering Michigan hockey before she even felt comfortable. But Curtis Lazar specifically took her in, introducing his family to her and treating her like an uncle would. Amelie just let the guys riff off each other while she snapped pictures whenever it felt right. Whatever she did, the team seemed to like, and that’s more than okay with her.
(She got some awesome pictures of a few of them on film that she didn’t necessarily think are the best to put out to the public but she thinks they or their families might appreciate them. She saves those, and vows to herself to try to do that as much as she can, making sure that her love of photography doesn’t just boil down to her job.
She has more than a few pictures of Jack, whether purposefully or not. They’ll be of use someday.)
The time they got to really let loose was the night after the second game, with everyone in high spirits after winning both games against Buffalo. Amelie had squeezed Seamus for an extra long time when she first saw him after the game and everyone was dressed to go out.
Both of them being rookies as Wolverine alums. It’s kinda touching. At least, everyone else thinks it does. Amelie does too, really, but she’s just trying not to fuck up at her very new and very cool job. The sentimentality of it all hasn’t quite hit her yet.
She’s trying to ignore Jack’s eyes that seem to always be on her. Right now, she just needs to focus on Prague and then deal with whatever that is when they get back to Jersey.
The day after the Devils home opener, she gets a text from Jack.
Jack Hughes
is today finally the day?
Amelie Fishel
i’m free! are you?
Jack Hughes
;)
just got out of morning skate
lunch? and we can walk around after?
or would you rather do dinner?
Amelie Fishel
lunch sounds good
you want me to pick a place?
Jack Hughes
i got it
11:30 okay? i’ll pick you up
Amelie Fishel
that’s perfect
see you soon!!
Amelie swallows as she looks into her closet. It doesn’t really matter. Jack’s seen her going-out outfits as well as her lounging at home fits. But she wants to feel good and comfortable because she doesn’t really know what to expect.
She’s surprised Jack has seemed to be so receptive, even though she’s the one who messed it all up that July night.
With a white sweater and black leggings on, she ties a black ribbon into her hair and takes a deep breath, just as her phone buzzes.
Jack Hughes
what’s your apt #
Amelie Fishel

She spritzes her perfume on just as she hears a knock on her door. She grabs her bag, slips on her boots and goes to open the front door.
Amelie swallows as she opens the door. Jack looks up from his phone, quickly slips it into his pocket, and smiles sweetly. He’s wearing an olive green jacket over a white shirt, tucked into blue jeans. His curls look good and she takes a deep breath.
“Hi,” he breathes out.
“Hey.” She looks down at the singular pink tulip in his hand.
He clears his throat. “I, uh, walked past the floral shop like, a block away from here? And I just..thought of you.”
“Oh,” she mutters softly. “Thank you. Let me put it in a vase and then we’ll head out.”
“Yeah, of course,” he says. “Take your time.”
Amelie fetches a mason jar and cuts the stem so that it’s proportionate. After admiring it for a second as it sits on her kitchen table, she walks back to the door, making sure she has her keys. She debates reaching for his hand, but she doesn’t, as they walk towards the elevator.
She notices that he leaves some distance between them as he leans his back against the wall. She must be giving him a look without realizing, because he lets out a nervous laugh. “What?”
“What?”
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You’re making me nervous.”
“How?”
“I don’t know!” She vaguely gestures. “Why are you so…quiet?”
He laughs, and she smiles at the sound. “Sorry,” he says genuinely. “I’m not trying to be…I just don’t wanna mess this up again.”
All humor washes away from Amelie’s face as her stomach churns, watching Jack fidget. “I’m the one that lied to you, Jack,” she says softly. “You have nothing to make up for.”
“Maybe,” he admits. “But that doesn’t mean I didn’t do things wrong either. I wanna do it right this time. I’m sorry if I’m being weird.”
She can’t take it anymore, scooting herself closer to him and intertwining their hands together. Immediately, he squeezes them.
This might be their first official date. But she thinks she’s been his for awhile now, Even when they weren’t talking.
In hindsight, Amelie knew that lying to Jack, even if it was only for a few days, was the wrong move the second she did it. It took talking to her sisters, some friends and fucking Ethan Edwards for her to stop beating herself up about it so much and focus on moving forward and making it better (“if that’s something you want to do,” Ethan had added over the phone when she was close to hyperventilating. “You have endless chances to make up for lying. It’s obvious he still cares about you. You just need to do something about it. He’d forgive you in a heartbeat, Ami.”)
She had convinced herself that Jack wouldn’t want to hear her out, and that working adjacent with his team would just be filled with polite exchanges and nothing more. But then they locked eyes at Media Day and he caught her trying to get herself together and told her that he’d always say yes to her, whatever the fuck that means.
They’re walking out to the parking lot when Jack tugs their hands to a light stop in front of his car. He opens the passenger seat door, but pauses. She turns to him in confusion.
“You okay?” He asks, eyebrows pinched in concern. “I lost you for a bit.”
She tries to smile convincingly. “Yeah. Sorry.”
“Amelie, we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to,” he swallows. “If you-”
“No,” she says firmly, slipping into the seat. She’s not gonna let misunderstandings come between them again. “I want to do this. I’m just…freaking out a bit?”
He starts the engine before turning towards her. “Yeah, yeah. I get that. It’s just me though.”
She huffs. Because that’s partially the problem. She changes the subject. “Where are we going?”
“Clee likes this place called Elysian Cafe? I think it’s French.”
Amelie hums. “Sounds good.” She looks over to him. “Who knows this is happening?”
“The date?”
“Yeah.”
“Luke and Clee, obviously. Quinn. Probably Nico through Clee. Or me. I probably mentioned it to him. Why?”
She shrugs. “Just want to know what I’m working with.”
“Who knows on your end?”
“Just Col and Char,” she chuckles slightly at the memory. “They’re the ones who convinced me to try again in the first place.”
“Then I know who I have to thank,” Jack smiles. “You-I hope that’s okay that I told them?”
She shrugs. “They’re your siblings. Or dating one of them. I wouldn’t have any right to feel upset, especially because I did the same thing.”
“But you work with two of them.”
Right. Yeah. Part of the reason they had their whole misunderstanding in the summer. She takes a deep breath. “Yeah. I’m trying to get over that hump for myself. But it’s not something neither of us can control, I guess.”
He becomes quiet, before, “I’m sorry I didn’t understand that before, like, why that mattered so much to you.”
She blinks as they wait at a light, the turn signal flicking being their only soundtrack. “That’s okay. I lied to you, so we were both in the wrong.”
“But you did it for good reason and I didn’t see that at the time,” he runs a hand through his hair.
Amelie swallows down any doubt and leans over to kiss Jack lightly on the cheek. “I appreciate that. Thank you.”
One side of his lips quirk up into his signature smirk. Amelie doesn’t even roll her eyes. “So how’s the start of the job been? Busy?”
“Very,” she settles back in the seat. “But good. Media day was nuts, as you saw. Prague was really fun. Pre-season was good but crazy. I’m sure I’ll get used to it soon.”
“Have you been able to explore Jersey much? Or go into Manhattan?”
“Not really,” she admits. “When I do have free time I’ve been unpacking and sleeping. I’m on duty for the Rangers when you guys are on the road trip though so maybe I’ll have more time to explore the city then if I’m not too tired.”
He pouts slightly. “What am I supposed to be telling everyone? That my girlfriend works for the enemy?”
“I work for your team too, loser,” she shoots back, before hesitating. “Girlfriend’s a bit presumptuous, no?”
“It is,” he admits. “But I’m hoping by the end of this date and however many more that I can make it an easier decision for you.”
Amelie’s half stunned at his boldness. But then she remembers that they have kissed multiple times. It just feels different without the fragility of summer and Michigan. It feels different in New Jersey. Almost forbidden. But she knows those are just boundaries she’s put up all on her own.
She tries to push that down. She can’t keep getting lost in her own head. Jack’s right here. “How about you? Season starting out okay? Is that a stupid question?”
He chuckles. “Season’s good, I think. Prague was definitely very fun. I don’t know. You don’t wanna look too ahead, you know? Just focus on the next few games. Work on what you need to work on.”
Amelie can’t help but snort. “Very diplomatic of you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Did you spit that out to a journalist earlier?”
He sputters, “You asked!”
She chuckles. “I know.”
When they reach the restaurant, they’re not even sitting down at their table yet when Amelie’s skin prickles up. She can feel someone watching them. She’s proven right when a young teenager politely asks for a picture right after they get seated. The interaction takes all of 30 seconds but Jack looks so apologetic afterwards.
“I’m sorry,” he says after the boy walks away.
“It’s all good,” she replies sincerely before grinning with a light shrug. “I know you’re a big deal.”
“Still. I don’t-”
“Jack,” he shuts up immediately, looking at her like she’s the only person in the world. “It’s fine. I promise.” They both thank the waiter as he fills up their glasses. “How is everyone? Luke and Quinn and Clementine and all them.”
“They’re good,” he says, automatically more at ease talking about his family. “I mean, you see Luke so you know. Quinn seems to be doing well up there with the Canucks. Just start of the season stuff. And Clee’s good. Really busy at the hospital so I’ve barely seen her, to be honest.”
“Do you like living with them?”
“I love it,” he replies honestly. “Living with both of them is like, I don’t know. It feels like childhood again. But we’re all grown up and not as stupid as before. Well, me and Luke. Clee’s always been smart. But no, it’s fun living with them. I’m not sure how long it’ll be until Clee moves out so I’ll take what I can get.”
“She’s moving out?”
Jack shrugs. They both order — mussels to share for an appetizer, a burger for him and fish tacos for her. He waits until the waiter walks away. “She hasn’t said anything yet. But her and Nico are getting pretty serious. I mean, I guess they’ve only been dating for, like, 6 months, but I could see her moving in with him sooner rather than later.”
She hums. “How do you feel about that? Like, them being together. It has to be a bit weird, right?”
“It can be,” he drums his fingers on the table. “Last season, I joked a lot about it. But then it actually happened and it was like, woah, my older sister is now dating my captain and two parts of my life are combining in a way that it hasn’t before. But they’re pretty good at like, the separation I guess. Not that-I really like them together. I think they’re actually really good for each other. He calms her down and she knocks some sense into his head.” He chuckles and Amelie realizes how much she loves that sound. “I would’ve introduced them earlier if I’d known how good they would be together.”
“I can’t imagine living with either of my sisters, to be honest, even if I love them.”
“Why is that?”
“I think I need my own space.”
He hums, and before she can overthink about how that may come across, he switches topics. “So what did you get up to the rest of the summer?”
Overthinking about how I left things with you is the honest answer, but they don’t need to get into that. “Not much, I guess. Packed. Hung around. Saw some friends. Went to a concert.”
“Who did you see?”
“I don’t know if you know her. Lizzy McAlpine?”
“I don’t. Text me some of your favorite songs from her later. I’ll listen to them.”
She chuckles. “I don’t really think it’s your type of music.”
“What’s your favorite song by her?”
“Uh uh,” she teases with a wry smile. “You don’t get to have that information yet.”
“I’ll earn it,” he says, a bit too seriously for their topic of conversation. “So, concerts. You know, everyone usually comes by to New York City. I’m sure you’ll be able to catch some people there.”
“You an expert on NYC?”
Jack shrugs. “Not really, considering, you know, all this. But when we have a few days off I like to go in. I have some spots I enjoy a lot.”
“We should go in sometime and you can show me your spots.”
His lips spread slowly into a grin. “Yeah?”
She nods, looking down at her lap. “Yeah. Whenever I get my feet under me.”
“It seems like you’re handling everything just fine,” he says.
Amelie lets out a laugh as she leans back. “I’m really good at faking it.”
“Luke misses you.”
“I just saw him yesterday.”
“No, I know, but like, just hanging out with you. He’s started bugging me about the three of us hanging out like we did in Michigan.”
“We’re not in Michigan anymore.”
“Sure, but what’s the difference?”
She’s saved from answering as their food comes.
Lunch is delicious and fun and light and Jack is exactly how she remembers from the summer, even if the October chill is settling in and they’re not in the MIchigan sunshine anymore. Seeing Jack against the windows of a cafe in Hoboken, looking at ease, at her, nothing has changed between them. But also, so many things have.
She wishes she could fully enjoy and let go of … whatever has been in her gut since she hid her sobs in her hand at her grandparents’ house. Jack has been doing everything right and she’s trying to enjoy herself.
(She’s scared)
They decide to walk around for a bit after they eat, not wanting to leave each other’s company quite yet. They’re walking through a park and admiring the empty fountain when Jack laughs.
“Uh oh.”
She’s confused. “What?”
Jack chuckles, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I don’t know. You look like you’re about to say something that you don’t think I’m gonna like.”
She blinks. Fuck. “Am I that obvious?”
“No,” he admits. “Lucky guess. Or maybe I just know you. Spill. What’s going on in that pretty head?”
She stares at her shoes. Be brave, she tells herself. “Can you-can we take this slow? I-I know that we aren’t really starting from step one but I-I,” she trails off, trying to steady her voice.
“Hey,” he mutters softly, pulling her to the side of the path so they don’t block people. “I was kidding earlier about the girlfriend stuff. I don’t care about that. I care about you and whatever pace you want to go at. Or no pace if that’s something you also want to do.”
“And you’d be okay with no pace at all?”
She stares at his adam's apple bopping up and down. “If that’s what you wanted. I’m obviously not, not gonna force you into anything you don’t want to be in. I’m not that much of an asshole.” He chuckles weakly.
She realizes suddenly that Jack actually thinks there’s a chance of her turning him down. A chance of her saying she doesn’t want anything to do with him, which is definitely not the case. She knows she wants him. She just doesn’t know what that looks like yet, which is why:
“We can take it slow?” She asks.
“Whatever pace you want,” he assures. “Whatever you want.”
“And the team?”
“What about the team?”
“Well, they’ll have to know, right? I might not work for the Devils directly but there’s a conflict of interest there.”
“They don’t have to know anything,” he assures. “Definitely not yet. Once they do, we’ll figure it out together.”
She bites her lip, because yeah, that sounds nice, but he’s untouchable in the grand scheme of things. She’s much more disposable in comparison. “Jack.”
“We’ll figure it out together,” he repeats. “I promise.”
And promises have never really meant much to Amelie. But the look in Jack’s eyes is so comforting and insistent that she can’t do anything but believe him.

jack
It’s getting colder now, as it does in early to mid October in Jersey. Jack rubs his hands together as he locks his car. He has the day off today after playing the Caps last night and Amelie also has the day off. The plan is to spend a day in New York City. He hasn’t heard from her this morning, which is a bit unusual, but that doesn’t phase him as he enters the elevator and then stops in front of Amelie’s apartment.
Three crisp knocks and he’s shoving his hands in his coat pockets and rocking back and forth. It takes upwards to a minute before the door is cracked open. The automatic smile on his face quickly drops into a concerned frown when he sees her.
“Are you okay?”
Amelie, hair messed up, in a Michigan t-shirt and flannel pajama bottoms, responds with three consecutive sneezes. “Shit,” she sniffles. “I thought I texted you.”
He closes the door behind him and lets himself in her apartment. “What happened?”
“Woke up feeling like crap,” she coughs into her elbow. “Coughing, sneezing, a bit of a sore throat. I think it’s a bad cold.”
“So no frolicking to the city, I assume?” He jokes lightly.
Her shoulders deflate. “I’m sorry. I was really looking forward to it..”
“No stress,” he assures gently. He untangles her crossed arms and squeezes her fingers gently. “Go lay down on the couch.”
Her eyebrows furrow. “Huh?”
“Do you have things in the kitchen to make soup?”
“No?” She blinks. “I was supposed to go grocery shopping tomorrow.”
He hums. “Okay. I’ll run to the store. Do you have medicine?”
She blinks again, her brain catching up. “You don’t have to stay. You’ll get sick.”
“I’m staying. Do you have medicine?” He repeats. She nods. He presses a kiss on her forehead, another wave of concern washing over him as he notes how clammy it is. “Hang tight, baby. I’ll be back soon.”
“You really don’t have to stay.”
“I want to,” Jack swallows. “If you really want me to go, I will. But you’re not feeling well, and I’d like to help out.”
A few seconds of silence before Amelie nods, rubbing her nose. “Okay. Thank you.”
“Anytime. I’ll be quick.”
It takes 30 minutes for Jack to grab ingredients from the note on his Notes app for a basic chicken noodle soup recipe that his mom sent him way back in his rookie year, some cough drops, extra cold medicine, and call Clementine in a panic to check that he isn’t forgetting anything (“She probably just needs to sleep it off,” Clementine says, traces of Nico’s voice in the background). Jack had grabbed Amelie’s keys from her counter when he left so he lets himself back in quietly, finding Amelie laying down on the couch.
“Hey,” he announces himself with a soft voice. Amelie just lets out something between a groan and a sigh. “That bad?”
“No. I’m just being dramatic,” she pouts, scrolling through Netflix. “I wanna watch something but I know what. Do you have a preference?”
Jack starts unpacking the bag in her kitchen. “You’re the one who’s sick. I’m fine with whatever.”
“Have you ever seen La La Land?”
“I have not.”
“Of course you haven’t. We’re watching it. It’s my comfort movie.”
“Gimme, like, 15 minutes?” He asks. “I need to prepare the soup.”
“Sure,” she yawns. “I should probably take a shower.”
“You’ll definitely feel better.”
She lets her hair out of her hair tie. “Just tell me I look like shit next time.”
He gives her a look, shaking his head. “You never look like shit.”
Amelie scoffs lightly with a small smile, getting off the couch. “Sure, Jack.”
“Shoo,” he flicks his hand. “Delicious chicken noodle soup coming to you soon.”
17 minutes later, the soup is simmering on the stove and Amelie walks back out with damp hair. She coughs heartily and winces, coming to the kitchen and pouring herself a glass of water. “It smells good.”
Jack almost beams. “Thanks. An Ellen Weinberg-Hughes specialty.”
She hums. “Movie time?”
“Well, it’s one of your favorites. So we have to.”
When they get to the couch and Amelie presses play, he hesitates. He wants to put an arm around her and let her snuggle against his side, but he doesn’t want her to be uncomfortable. As the opening number starts, he doesn’t have to overthink it any longer, because she pulls the blanket over both of them and leans the side of her head against his shoulder. He swears she can feel the smile on his face when he kisses her temple.
Two hours later, two empty bowls are on the table in front of them, there are tear streaks on Amelie’s face and Jack is a bit confused. “That’s your comfort movie?”
“Yeah. Don’t pretend you didn’t like it.”
“That’s not what I’m saying,” he blinks. “I’m just saying that it seems pretty sad to be a movie that comforts you.”
She shrugs. “It’s sad, but it’s also life. And it’s beautiful. And it’s about moments and how sometimes, things just aren’t meant to be. It’s realistic.”
He hums in affirmation. “Not a dreamer, eh?”
“I wish I was more of one,” she admits. “Sometimes I feel like I’m limiting myself because I don’t want to dream too big because I feel like I’ll inevitably be disappointed.”
“I don’t think you could disappoint anyone,” he rushes out.
“It’s not about what other people think,” she says with a light cough, staring ahead at the TV. “It’s about what I think of myself.”
And, well, yeah. Jack knows that feeling all too well.
“You’re doing awesome, you know?” He says, trying to offer some encouragement as they face each other, knees barely touching. “I mean, I’m not going to pretend I understand every aspect of your job, but I’ve heard from Josh and, just from seeing how hard you work and how much you care about it, especially because you’re new…don’t stress out about it. You’re doing great.”
“You think?”
“Of course.”
“Thanks.”
“You don’t sound so sure,” he teases.
One side of her lips quirk up, as she tilts her head to the side in thought. “I guess it wasn’t really my professional life I was talking about with the whole dreamer question.”
“So your personal life?”
“Yeah. I don’t know. La La Land is so heartbreaking but it’s also, at its core, a story about love and dreams and…” She trails off, avoiding eye contact with him.
Jack swallows. Guess he’ll be the brave one. “So you’re a romantic.”
“Is that surprising?”
“A bit. But not in a bad way.”
“I don’t know if I’ve ever let myself really believe that I am one, if that makes sense.” It doesn’t, but she pays him no mind, a furrow in her eyebrow indicating that she’s piecing her thoughts together. “I think for awhile, I just convinced myself it wouldn’t ever amount to anything. So instead of ever, I don’t know, thinking that I would find someone who really just likes me for me in that way, I figured no one ever would. Which sucks, because I’ve always wanted that.”
He wants to say so much, but nothing comes out of his mouth except for an affirming hum. “The movie was great.”
She blinks, a smile spreading on her face. “You think?”
“Yeah. But you should sleep,” he tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear. “I’m surprised you didn’t conk out during.”
Her lips turn into a pout, “I usually would fight you, but I don’t have the strength.”
“Bed or couch?”
She yawns, already leaning her head on a pillow. “I’m not moving.” Before Jack can think about what he’s going to do, she makes grabby hands in his direction. “Nap time.”
“Me too?”
“You have other places to be?” She asks, eyes already closed.
He tucks himself next to her and pulls the blanket over them both. “Nowhere but here.”
(“Thanks for coming today,” Amelie says hours later, leaning her hip against the doorway as Jack’s about to head home. It’s already 10 p.m., and he has practice tomorrow morning.
“Do you feel better?” He asks. She nods. “Then that’s all that matters.”
“But what if you wake up tomorrow and you’re sick? Still gonna like me then?”
And he knows she’s half-teasing, but he ducks down to leave a lingering kiss on her cheek. “Of course.”
She hums, rubbing her eyes. “And thanks for the soup. I’m gonna have enough to last me for days.”
“That was the idea.” He shoves his hands in his pockets. “Am I gonna see you Friday?”
“Unless I get worse, then I should be there,” she nods, before wrapping her arms around his waist. “See you later.”
“Bye, babe.”
“Wait,” he turns back around as she leans her head on the doorway. “‘Staying.’”
“Hm?”
“That’s my favorite Lizzy McAlpine song. Or one of them.”
“‘Staying?’ That’s what it’s called?” She nods. He tucks that into the back of his mind. “Okay. I’ll let you know what I think.”
“Goodnight, Jack.”
“Night.”)
amelie
It’s been a crazy month of ups and downs, but Amelie isn’t lying when she tells her family that she loves her job.
Sometimes she feels a bit out of her element, like when she can’t get a good angle on a shot no matter how hard she tries or when the dynamics of being a part of a professional sports organization (and sometimes, with the teams she covers, it feels like multiple organizations in one) are harder to figure out than usual. But then the familiar sounds of a game flood through her ears and she reaches up to touch the ribbon in her hair — switching between red, orange or blue depending on what team she’s shooting — and she takes a deep breath and feels okay again.
More often than not, if she’s at the Rock, she catches Jack’s eye, or a glimpse of his hair, or even just the 86 and it brings her a sense of calm.
They don’t interact that much at work besides hellos and some stolen short conversations here or there. She’s usually busy running around during pre-game and then he’s playing when they’re actually in the same proximity.
She has a moment after shooting an Islanders game and then getting the notification that Jack had just scored in a game against Colorado in their arena. Before she leaves the parking lot, she clicks on Jack’s contact anyways, waiting to leave a voicemail.
“Hey, uh, congrats on the goal. Unsure if you win since the game is tied as I’m calling, but hope you guys pull it out. I don’t really know why I’m calling, to be honest. I was just thinking about you. I think we both have a day off right when you get back to Jersey, and I was wondering, if maybe you’d wanna go into Manhattan finally? Let me know. I’ll see you when you get back. Okay, bye.”
(She wakes up the next day to see she has a missed call and a voicemail from Jack
“Hey Baby. I guess I could’ve waited to call you in the morning but I didn’t want to wait. We won, by the way. And yeah, I’m totally down to go into the city when we both have a minute. I, uh, we’ll catch up when I get back. But it was really nice to hear your voice, even if just over a voicemail. Have a good day. Bye.”)
They don’t get to go to Manhattan when Jack comes back, because Amelie is asked to fill in last minute for a Flyers game. She feels like she’s more bummed about it than Jack is. Or at least outwardly. In fact, after that voicemail, they don’t really get a chance to talk until four days later, when Jack catches her at The Rock before the game against Washington.
He grabs her arm lightly and leads them to a small alcove. “Hey.”
“Hi,” she can’t help but smile. “Good skate this morning?”
“Good as can be. Bummed we couldn’t go into the city the other day.”
She sighs. “Yeah. I’m sorry.”
“Not your fault,” he hesitates, before: “Hey. What plans do you have after the game tonight?”
“Nothing?”
“Come over to mine after,” she opens her mouth but he barrels on. “Clee’s working late and Luke won’t bother us. I just, I don’t know. I feel like we haven’t been able to see each other. And you have to head over to MSG tomorrow afternoon, right? We can grab breakfast somewhere, then.”
Amelie opens and closes her mouth two times. “You don’t think it’s too soon for me to stay over?”
His eyes widen. “Shit. I didn’t even-I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking. I didn’t-I wasn’t, like, I don’t expect anything. I can sleep on the couch. I just figured it would make it more convenient because we’ve been missing out on seeing each other lately. I’m gonna be tired after the game anyways and I was thinking we could just put something on TV or-”
“Okay.”
He blinks. “Okay?”
She nods before she can back out. “Yeah. I have an overnight bag in my car in case I ever get stranded somewhere and need to crash.”
“You sure?”
She can’t help but chuckle a bit. “You brought it up first, Jack. You backing out now?”
“No, of course not. But the last thing I want to do is make you uncomfortable.”
“It’s fine,” she says. And it is, really. But now that’s all she’s going to be thinking about for the rest of the day. “Seriously. It’s good. Your bed better be comfortable.”
He barks out a laugh. “It is. Great. I’ll see you later?”
“I’ll be around. Good luck.” With one last smile, he ducks out of alcove. She takes a breath, tugging at her jacket, before making her way out as well.
Kennedy, another photographer that strictly works with the Devils that Amelie’s become fast friends with, chuckles. “You’re not slick.”
Amelie lets out a small scream, before rolling her eyes. “Fuck, Kenny! A warning next time would be nice. And it’s not anything.”
Kennedy snorts as they both walk down the hallway. “Yeah, sure.”
“No, seriously, it’s just…we’re figuring it out.”
The older girl softens. “Hey, I was just making a joke. It’s none of my business. You guys are adults.”
“It’s something,” Amelie admits. “But I just don’t quite know what yet.”
“You’ll figure it out,” Kennedy assures. “I’ve known Jack longer than I’ve known you. I know you’ll figure it out. Now, Candace just brewed a fresh pot of coffee and we need to grab some before everyone comes in.”
They’re almost too late, because Coach Keefe has just poured out his cup and Kennedy rushes over to take the carafe out of his hand as he laughs. One day Amelie will get the confidence to do that.
“How are you settling in?” He asks Amelie kindly as Kennedy hands her a mug.
“Pretty well,” she says. “Still trying to get used to the chaos of the season but it’s been great and everyone’s been awesome.”
“I imagine that’s even more difficult when you have a bunch of schedules to balance.”
“It can get tricky,” she shrugs with a smile. “Keeps the job fresh though.”
“I bet.” A few seconds of comfortable silence sipping their respective coffees before Coach continues. “You went to the University of Michigan, right? I think I’ve seen you wearing that maize M around.”
“I did.”
“My niece is a junior in high school and thinking about doing something with sports, whether it’s business or photography or communications, probably because she’s been surrounded by the ice her whole life,” Coach Keefe laughs. “Earlier this season, Luke was talking to her about Michigan and I think he got her hooked.”
Amelie has to laugh at that. Classic Luke. “Well, I’d be happy talking to her if she wants a perspective from someone who wasn’t an athlete.”
“Would you really? I’m sure she would appreciate that.”
“Yeah, totally,” she fishes out a business card. “She can text me anytime. No promises I’ll respond too quickly, but I will as soon as I can.”
“Thank you, Amelie. Truly.”
“Of course, Coach.”
He turns back to Kennedy and jokes. “You must hate her, huh?”
Kennedy, who went to Ohio State, rolls her eyes. “With her, Shea and Luke, I feel constantly outnumbered here.”
“Don’t forget Jack,” Coach Keefe said.
“Oh, we don’t,” Kennedy chuckles. Amelie simultaneously wants to roll her eyes at her unsubtly and slap her shoulder. Instead, she settles with a look, to which Kennedy pointedly ignores.
After morning skate and editing what she needs to edit, Amelie heads to the grocery store for a quick run before stopping by at home to relax for a bit. She decides at the last minute to grab a bouquet of mums to put in her kitchen. After unloading her groceries, she tries to tidy up around her apartment but ultimately gives up, collapsing down on the couch. She has around an hour to kill before needing to get redressed to head back into the rink.
What does she do with that hour? Lounge around on her couch and pick up the latest book she’s reading. A memoir that AJ, the head of Devils socials, recommended. She hasn’t read as much as she used to, due to everything changing, but snuggling into her couch even just for a little to flip pages in a book calms her down.
When it’s time to go, she’s about to walk out the door before she stops herself, heading to the kitchen to grab a bottle of wine. That seems reasonable to give to Jack who’s inviting her over as a thank you gift, right?
After the game, that’s when she starts getting nervous. She edits the photos she needs to, sends them to Josh, the guy in charge of Devils media, and then lingers. She drove here, but she doesn’t wanna beat Jack to his place. She starts drumming her fingers against her desk, scrolling aimlessly on her phone. She knows he also got tagged for doing media tonight too, which explains why he’s taking a bit longer.
“Hey.”
She practically jumps out of her seat, putting her hand over her heart. “Jesus, Jack.”
“Jumpy,” he comments with a smirk before leaning against the door frame. “You good to go?”
“Yeah. Was just waiting for you.”
He grimaces. “Yeah. I should’ve given you my keys so you could chill at mine instead of here. Sorry.”
She stands up, gathering her things. “It’s fine. Can you send me your address again? I think I know where it is but I wanna make sure.”
They walk out together. People are milling about but no one questions anything. Amelie doesn’t know how she feels about that. Her phone buzzes, indicating Jack texted her his address. She’s parked on the other side of the garage but he walks her to her car anyways with a shrug, but it means a lot to her. She follows him easily to his apartment, the GPS guiding her along the way and when she parks right next to him, he somehow beats her to her own door and opens it for her.
“Thanks,” she says quietly, getting her overnight backpack from her backseat. “Do you mind if I bring my camera bag into yours? I don’t want them to get cold or-”
“Yeah, yeah, of course,” he grins, tie thrown over his shoulder and dress shirt wrinkled. He looks so handsome. “You’re not you without your cameras. You want me to grab something?”
“I’m good, thanks,” she says, locking her car. “Good game.”
“You think?”
“You got two assists and a few shot good attempts at goal,” she says with a furrowed eyebrow. “I’d consider that good, right?”
“Yeah, yeah. I just, I didn’t think you paid attention that much.”
She nudges his hip with hers as the elevator pings for each floor. “It’s kinda part of my job.”
“Is it?” He shoots back. She just rolls her eyes. “Have you eaten yet?” He asks.
“A bit. Have you?”
“A bit,” he echoes. “I was gonna roast some veggies and make some rice. I think I have leftover chicken. Unless you want something else? Clee probably has a bunch of stuff in the fridge that we-”
“That sounds perfect,” she interrupts him. “I’m good with anything. Promise.” She waits for him to unlock his front door. “Do you mind if I jump in the shower first?”
“Not at all,” he swings upon the door. “You can just leave your stuff in the living room. Bathroom is the second door down the hall to the right.”
She quickly rummages through to grab her toiletry bag and her pajamas. “Do you have a towel I could borrow, by chance?”
“Of course. We have a bunch in the closet in there. Take any one you see.” She nods in thanks before heading to the bathroom.
After towling her hair dry and tossing on an UW Madison sweater on she stole at some point from Colette ages ago, she pads out. Jack’s in the kitchen, back towards her, humming as he squats to check on the veggies in the oven. He’s changed out of his suit and has a Devils sweatshirt on now with gray sweatpants. His hair is damp from the shower he must’ve taken at the rink.
He catches her staring, but to her gratitude, doesn’t say anything. She lifts up the bottle of wine she got from her bag. “I don’t know if you’re allowed to have this during the season but…”
“One glass won’t hurt,” he grins. “Thanks. You didn’t have to.”
“You invited me into your home,” she comes over to the kitchen and takes the bottle opener from his hands. “I’m not an animal.”
Dinner is simple, but it’s delicious, and in the last hours of the evening with dim lighting, both their voices are low. At some point, Luke comes out for a glass of water, entering and leaving in a flash with a salute. That should feel weird, but it doesn’t. The not-quite-a-couple-yet couple catch each other up on their days and lives and Amelie feels a ball of warmth in her stomach.
It’s as if the clinking of Jack washing dishes — he literally whacked her hands when she tried to help — brings her out of her reverie. She waits until he’s done and sitting next to her again before:
“Hey Jack?”
In the middle of sipping his wine, Jack raises an eyebrow. He places his glass down and leans his elbows on the counter, giving her his full attention. “What’s up?”
She tries to stop fiddling with her hands, folding them on the counter. “Are-are you seeing anyone else?”
Silence, and then a soft, disbelieving, “What?”
Her mouth starts moving faster than her brain. “It’s not that I don’t trust you. Nor would I blame you, to be honest. I mean, I’m the one who’s been moving so slow and setting the boundaries and the pace and like, I get it. But-”
“I haven’t been seeing anyone else since we met.”
Her mouth snaps shut. “You-”
“I haven’t even been remotely interested in anyone else since I saw you and Suzie at the end of my driveway,” he says, eyes steadily staring into her, unflinchingly honest. “Even when you haven’t been sure about me. Even though you’re still not sure about me. Even when we had our argument. My feelings haven’t changed.”
Amelie suddenly feels ashamed. “Oh.”
One side of his lips quirk up. “Yeah. Have you been seeing anyone else?” Before she can control herself, she snorts. Jack pouts slightly. It’s cute. “What?”
“I barely have time to see you. In what world would I be seeing anyone else?”
“Hey,” he puts his hands up in defense. “I don’t know what you’re doing when I’m on the road.”
She shakes her head, staring down at her nails. “Nope. No one else.”
“Then that settles it.” Something flashes through his eyes and he rounds the corner, hoisting himself to sit on the counter. His leg brushes her side. “I’m sorry for not making that clear.”
“I’m sorry for being psycho and possessive.”
He tuts softly. “You’re not being either of those things.”
Her eyes glaze over, unfocused, as her mind takes her elsewhere. “It took three months for Cooper and I to officially get together because he was still dating around after our first date. Which was fine. It really didn’t bother me at the time. But-”
“You don’t have to explain yourself,” Jack assures. “But no. There’s been no one else for me.”
She swallows, busying herself by pouring herself out a glass of water before coming to stand inbetween his legs. She leans her forehead on his chest because she doesn’t wanna look at him when she asks her next question. “How much did Ethan tell you?”
“About Cooper?”
“Yeah.”
“Enough.” She picks her head up as he lightly rubs circles on her wrist.
“Did he tell you why we broke up?”
“Not directly,” he leans his forehead on hers momentarily. “I’d like to hear your answer to that though, if you’d be willing.”
She squeezes her eyes shut, and chokes out, “He got tired of me.”
“I’m sure he-”
“He told me, word for word, that he got tired of me. Tired of waiting. For what? I have no fucking idea.” And fuck, it’s been well over a year since she blocked his number, but she can’t recall the breakup out loud without a crack in her voice. “Apparently he’d ‘wasted’ a year of his time on a relationship that had long run its course.”
“And had it?” Jack asks gently. “Had it run its course?”
“Maybe. But it wasn’t fair to me that he didn’t even give me a chance to fix it.”
He nods stiffly, before, “Absolute jackass.”
“Definitely,” she hoists herself up on the counter to sit next to him, careful to not spill any wine. “When we broke up, it wasn’t like I didn’t see it coming. Things were kinda rough for a month or so beforehand. But I didn’t expect for it to hurt so much. I-I felt, just, really sad. Kinda betrayed. Pretty angry. I definitely didn’t think it would fuck up my perspective on relationships as much as it did.”
“I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
She almost brushes off his apology, staring unfocused into his living room. “I wish I didn’t feel this way. But when I met you, one of the first things I thought was that it wouldn’t move past the summer because what was the point? You would get tired of me eventually.” She squeezes her eyes shut. “I know that sounds ridiculous and whiny and it’s not true, but it’s hard for my brain to believe that. If I wasn’t enough for Cooper when we were in school and just dealt with that schedule, what would happen between you and I with our schedules and careers? That’s ultimately why I shut you down in the summer, I think. But also, fuck, Cooper was kinda an ass.”
He cuts in with a loud snort, “Clearly.”
She whacks his shoulder lightly, before letting out a sigh. “You know, he showed up at a party I was at a week later with another girl.”
“Yeah. Ethan mentioned that.”
“Right. It was a hockey party.” She squeezes her eyes shut, as if that will erase her memory. “I don’t know if you’ve ever felt like this, but I felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin and also scream my lungs out and lock myself in the bathroom and never come out. It kinda fucking sucks seeing a guy you thought you loved and loved you suddenly just throw it all away like it meant nothing. Because if he could do that so easily, who’s to say the next one won’t?” She downs the last of her wine, sighing deeply. “I’m working on remembering that I want to be in a relationship and I deserve it, but it’s really hard. I don’t blame you if you don’t wanna stick around as I’m trying to figure it out.”
Jack hops off the counter, this time stepping between her legs. She bites her lip in anticipation as he takes her hands and intertwines them, looking her dead in the eye. “Amelie. I really, really like you. Like, I-still-get-nervous-for-a-second-before-I-see-you like you. Or, I-can’t-believe-you’re-even-giving-me-a-chance like you. I’m here. I want to be here. As long as you’ll let me hang around, I will. You don’t have to be afraid to be honest with me about where you’re at. I won’t ever hold that against you.”
“But-”
“Staying, right? Your favorite Lizzy McAlpine song?”
She tilts her head in confusion. “Yeah?”
“I listened to it.”
“Okay?”
“If you’re afraid that I’m gonna just leave when my feelings suddenly disappear, which they won’t, I’m not going to do that. I’m not Cooper, okay? I’m not gonna fuck around for a month before deciding if you mean something to me, because I know what you mean to me. And I want to be here when you’re trying to figure it out. When we’re trying to figure it out, to be honest. You think I know how to be in a relationship?” He laughs at himself. “I’m bound to fuck it up somehow, probably many times, but I’m not just gonna leave when I do. I’m sticking around. I’ll stay and figure it out with you to the point where you’ll probably find me annoying. I’m not just gonna leave when things get hard.”
“But how can you promise that?”
He shrugs with a wry and somewhat defeated smile. “I can’t, I guess. You just have to trust my word.”
And to Amelie, weirdly enough, that’s the answer she was looking for. Cooper made so many empty promises. Jack’s unabashedly unsure of everything yet isn’t leaving her in the dark.
She squeezes his hands. “I trust you.”
His swallow is visible. “Yeah?” He rasps out.
“Yeah.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“I’m sorry if that hasn’t come across.”
He shrugs, planting his hands on either side of her on the counter. “Don’t be. Part of the gig, isn’t it? Earning your trust. And I’m having the best time.”
She scoffs. “It’s not annoying?”
His signature charming smile is back as he lets out a breathy laugh. “I don’t know if you really understand the effect you have on me.”
She wants to kiss him so bad. She doesn’t, nudging him away so she can hop off the counter. “You tired?”
“Aren’t I always?”
“You choose what we watch,” she says, poking his shoulder.
He brightens up. “Cuddles?”
She rolls her eyes, but opens her arms when she collapses on the couch. Jack doesn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her waist, humming in satisfaction.
(At 1:26 a.m. Clementine walks into the living room to see the sight of both Jack and Amelie asleep on the couch, his arm securely around her waist so she doesn’t fall off, their feet both dangling off the edge. She quietly clicks off the TV, adjusts the blanket so it covers both their bodies completely and takes their empty glasses to bring to the kitchen.
She takes a second to watch them — in a non-creepy way at all — from the dimly lit kitchen. Amelie and Jack’s chest rise and fall in unison and even when Amelie adjusts herself, Jack’s arm tightens on instinct to keep them from falling.
Clementine smiles to herself before tiptoeing to her bedroom)

jack
Jack doesn’t like feeling out of his element. And when it comes to Amelie, he feels like he has no fucking clue what he’s doing, even if he fakes it well. So that’s great.
He gets to the rink, and that’s old hat. Many things have changed, but at the end of the day, it’s still hockey. Blades to the ice is a feeling as natural as walking.
But now, knowing that some games, Amelie is more or less watching. It doesn’t distract him perse, but he definitely takes note, trying to subtly find her when he’s on the bench. It’s become a fun game for him. Sometimes, her red ribbon is easy to find. Sometimes, he thinks she’s hiding from him.
For Jack, not putting a label has been a bit difficult, because he’s always been the kind of person who needs to categorize things in some way, more for his own brain than anything. But at the same time, it also doesn’t matter to him that they’re not official. To him, they are, and that’s how he approaches all his actions. The dating apps from his phone are long gone. When he’s not thinking about hockey, he’s thinking about her. He’s trying not to be too overbearing while also not letting Amelie even question the possibility of him not being all in.
When he was crying in his bedroom back home in Michigan, this seemed so far out of his reach. But now Amelie’s here (her apartment is only a few miles away, even) and he’d be damn stupid if he let this go.
He’s never been in a relationship — or whatever this is — where coordinating both their schedules has been both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because not only does she understand, but their schedules overlap a good amount. A curse because her schedule is so unique covering many teams and even if he’s free, it doesn’t mean she is and vice versa. They’re only a few weeks into the season and it’s already becoming hard to find a few hours in their days to go do something.
Everything is at her pace. He wants to be sure that she knows that he takes that seriously and he’s not going to leave or get frustrated.
When Amelie said that she wanted to meet Clementine, Jack practically immediately darted for his phone, asking when the resident would have some free time. She’s been almost surprisingly chill about it all, not asking that much and only bringing it up if Jack brings it up first. Which, if he thinks about it more, makes complete sense to who calm, collected, older sister and beloved-by-all Clementine Sandoval is.
So that leads them to today, grabbing brunch in Hoboken on a Sunday morning with himself, Amelie, Clementine, Luke and Nico. Jack had asked Amelie if she wanted the latter two there or not, and she said she was okay with it. Jack hopes it brings Amelie more ease to have Nico and Luke around rather than stress.
Jack’s leg is shaking and Luke is in the backseat as they sit in the car outside Amelie’s apartment. Luke shoves Jack’s shoulder. “Dude, stop shaking your leg. You’re stressing me out.”
“Sorry,” he responds automatically.
“You know Clemmy. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.”
“I know.”
“Amelie’s scared?”
“I don’t think so. I don’t know. I just want them to get along.”
“They’ll get along,” Luke says matter-of-factly. “It’s Clemmy. And it’s Amelie. And me and Cap are there. How bad could it go?”
Jack just sighs. It’s not going to go badly. It won’t.
Honestly, it can’t.
It’s that he’s always felt that Clementine brings out the best version of himself and she’s one of the biggest parts of his life. If there’s an inkling of this not going well, he doesn't know what he’s going to do.
“Chill, man,” Luke says as Amelie floats through the front door. Jack is momentarily mesmerized by her maroon scarf and the white bow in her hair as she spots him, paddling over to his car. She’s about to go in the backseat, but Luke gestures to her through the window to take the front.
“Hi,” she breathes out, slipping in and shutting the door. She turns around to face Luke. “You didn’t have to leave me the front.”
“I wasn’t in the mood to hear Jack’s bitching and moaning,” Luke deadpans, a small smile peeking through as Amelie chuckles.
Jack is about to shoot something back at his brother but then Amelie reaches over to squeeze his hand. He immediately relaxes. “Well, step on it,” Amelie jokes lightly. “We don’t wanna be late.”
“You look really nice,” Jack says, pulling out onto the road.
“Thanks,” she responds quietly. “You do too. You too, Luke.”
“Thank you,” Luke sings. Jack isn’t looking at him but he knows that half-smile smirk thing that drives Jack bonkers is on Luke’s lips.
“You excited?” Jack asks.
Amelie coughs. “I’m scared as shit.” Luke snorts in the back. Amelie doesn’t even look as she whacks his knee. Jack knew he liked her for a reason. “No, I’ll be fine. I just want her to like me, that’s all.”
“She will,” Jack assures.
They don’t talk much the rest of the ride, Amelie singing softly under her breath. He realizes that everytime they’re in a car together, Amelie has to sing, almost like she can’t control herself. It’s so endearing.
Jack sees Clementine through the window of the restaurant in the middle of laughing at something Nico is saying. He internally rolls her eyes. They’re so gross. He flashes one last reassuring smile at Amelie before he leads them in, Luke holding the door for all three of them.
Clementine sees the trio come in immediately and grins. “Hi Jacky.”
He narrows his eyes. “Hello.”
“Chill out,” she says. “Hey Lukey. And Amelie!” Clementine stands up, engulfing her in a hug. Jack can’t see Amelie’s face. “It’s so nice to meet you finally! I’ve heard so much about you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Amelie says, pulling away with a small smile. “Hi Nico.”
The captain just smiles at her warmly. “Hey Amelie.”
“Have you guys ordered yet?” Jack asks as they all sit down.
Clementine snorts. “No. We were waiting for your slow ass.”
“I am right on time, actually,” Jack snaps back.
Clementine ignores him, turning to Amelie instead. Immediately, the older girl just launches into questions. It’s a borderline interrogation and Jack can tell Amelie is a bit thrown off but she takes it all with grace paired with the most beautiful smile. By the time they order, Clementine’s already talking about how much of a pain it is to live with him and Luke and how much she wishes she didn’t and everyones jumping at each other as Nico just sits back and laughs and Jack hopes and hopes that this isn’t too much for Amelie. He’s seen her quietly work a room full of hockey players, but this is his family.
(When their food comes, he takes her hand underneath the table and squeezes it. Without a passing beat, she squeezes right back, as she asks Clementine about her time at Stanford)
At one point, the two women are still riffing seamlessly off each other (making fun of him, thank you very much), and Luke snorts. “Are you just going to take this? Fight back, dude.”
“Don’t,” Nico says wearily. “No point. You know this.”
Jack grunts, because Nico’s right. He rolls his eyes as Clementine shoots him a smug grin, but he feels himself soften hearing Amelie’s chuckle.
This could be his life. This is his life. Almost all his favorite people in the same place. He doesn’t get this peace that often in New Jersey. Especially not during the season.
Amelie fits like a puzzle piece perfectly into his life. How lucky is he?
Clementine has a night shift and apologizes for it (“I should probably nap before or else I’ll be dead on my feet”), to which all of them decide it’s a good time as any to leave. They’ve already been talking for almost two hours, which has to be a good sign, right? Jack gives Clementine a kiss on the cheek, hugs Nico and messes up Luke’s hair, staring fondly as Amelie gives Clementine, Nico and Luke parting hugs. He catches Nico’s knowing look that he’s been on the end of many times before, usually hockey related.
As he starts the engine of his car, Amelie deeply sighs to him. Immediately, he’s alert. “You okay? Was that too much?”
She shakes her head adamantly. “No, not at all.” She must sense his worry, because she continues with a laugh. “It was actually really fun.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she leans her head on the window, looking towards him. “I see why you talk so highly of her. Clementine, I mean. She’s really cool.”
“Isn’t she the best?” Jack grins.
“She mentioned her dad a few times?” Amelie prods gently. “Did something happen?”
Jack swallows. “I never told you?”
“I don’t think so?”
“Oh. I thought I did. Uh, her dad, Miguel, died back in 2015. New Year’s Day. Cancer.”
He sneaks a look at Amelie and she looks heartbroken. “I’m so sorry, Jack,” she whispers.
He continues on. He needs her to get it. “I miss him a lot. Constantly. He was the best guy. And Clee’s just..I love her so much. And Maeve, her mom. My mom, to some degree. I don’t know where I’d be without them.”
“That must’ve been really hard, for all of you,” she says softly.
“He never got to see any of us in the NHL,” Jack says. He’s trying to stay calm, but he’s gripping the wheel really tightly. “Hell, he never even got to see us in the NTDP. Or Q and Lukey at Michigan. He should be here. He would’ve loved all of it. But yeah, that’s Miguel.”
“She’s wonderful,” Amelie says after a few moments of silence. “Even just from that lunch, it’s obvious how much you all care about each other.”
“It’s hard to describe it, to be honest,” he says. “I think some people think at first that it’s something that it’s not. I’ve never seen her as anything but a sister.”
“I’m really glad you have someone like that,” she says, sounding somewhere between happy and sad. “And I’m sure she feels the same way.”
Jack chuckles. “I don’t know if she would. Most of the time I think we annoy her more than anything.”
“Annoying is 90% of what being a sibling is,” she points out. “Char and Col and I all love each other, but we annoyed the crap out of each other growing up.”
“You miss them?”
“All the time, and I saw Col a few weeks ago.” she tucks her legs up underneath her chin. “I think missing someone or something is all a part of it. You ever miss people even though they’re metaphorically right there? Or you haven’t had enough time to miss them yet?”
He sneaks another look at her and he feels his heart beating faster.
“All the time.”

amelie
Amelie and Kennedy are hanging out in the kitchen area when out of the corner of the eye, she sees Jack come in.
It’s not unusual for players to come into the kitchen area of their own practice facility. But he’s beelining right towards the trio, which has Amelie’s arm hairs sticking up.
“Hey Jack,” Kennedy greets warmly.
He nods with a close lipped smile. “Dynamic duo. How are you both?”
Kennedy raises an eyebrow. “Dream duo?”
“That’s how Josh refers to you two.” Amelie tuts as the other two laugh. Jack turns to her with an unmistakable twinkle in his eye. “What?”
Amelie shrugs. “Nothing. Just funny that Josh even refers to us at all.”
“It’s because we brighten his day,” Kennedy smirks. “What would he do without us?”
“Without you,” Amelie corrects with a wry smile. “I’m not here everyday.”
“You’re here enough,” Kennedy shoots back. She turns to Jack, and Amelie is immediately intrigued yet scared to hear what comes out of the older girl’s mouth, always the one to stir the pot in a harmless way. “Sick goal last night.”
Jack blinks. “The one that got called back?”
“The very one.”
Amelie bursts out laughing and Jack lets out a chuckle as well. “Thanks, I think,” he says.
“Got some cool shots of it actually, but alas.”
“Alas, indeed.” Jack then turns his attention to Amelie. She can’t help but let a smile peek out. “I don’t think I saw you last night.”
“That’s because I was in Philly. They needed someone last minute.”
Jack pouts. “But what if the Devils need you?”
She rolls her eyes. “Then they have Kenny. And numerous other talented people on call.”
He nudges her elbow. “I know. We like having you around though.”
Amelie purposefully ignores her friends / coworkers’ eyes that she can feel boring into the side of her face, choosing to instead focus directly on Jack. “Do you know who’s been looking for you all morning?”
His eyebrows furrow. “Who?”
“Emma.”
“Shit,” he curses. “For what?”
Kennedy rolls her eyes. “A Tik-Tok, probably. That’s what the kids are doing these days. You’re a kid. Shouldn’t you know?”
“You’re like, only three years older than me, Ken.” Jack protests. “I don’t wanna hear it.”
“She was in the media room last night I saw her,” Amelie smirks. “Go. Before she kills you. Or us. And I don’t wanna deal with that.”
He narrows his eyes. “Fine,” he swipes the unopened gatorade on the table, to which Amelie sputters at. That was hers, thank you very much. “I’ll see you two later.”
When he’s out of eyesight, Amelie lets out a deep sigh. “Annoying ass.”
“I have to agree, and I’ve been here for years. They all are though. Except for like, Nico.”
Amelie snorts. “Well, yeah. That’s a given. Everyone loves Nico.”
“Jack is right about one thing though,” the older girl nudges Amelie’s shoulder with her own. “We miss you when you’re not here.”
She just smiles, accepting a side hug from Kennedy. It’s a pretty damn good gig she has.

jack
It’s no surprise that hockey players are creatures of habit.
Jack is starting to freak himself in his willingness to break slowly from some of his habits for Amelie. Nothing crazy. Just an extra scoop of ice cream if Amelie’s craving something sweet after a game (he’s learned that she has a really strong sweet tooth and always has candy in her bag and car) or making sure that her texts and calls can come through during his pre-game nap.
Only seven other people have that privilege. His parents, his brothers, his sister (Clementine), his second mom (Maeve) and his captain.
He’s always liked to stay silent and blast music on the way home from a game, win or lose. Now he’s started asking Amelie more and more to see if she wants a ride, since she doesn’t love driving and often carpools with a coworker into work. They don’t have to be talking, but letting her into his post game routine so seamlessly — especially since he and Luke don’t usually drive to the rink together that much — is something he hasn’t done for…anyone.
It’s just so easy with her. Their conversations, whether over text, phone or in-person, are never stale. She makes him laugh daily with her witty sense of humor. He always looks forward to catching a glimpse of her at the rink before a game or after a practice. He’s come to look forward to seeing her texts after a game since they’re usually a picture or two of him that she “thinks are the best ones.” Leaving on a road trip has become genuinely harder because he can’t see her for a few days.
He finds himself wanting. Constantly. It’s a newer feeling for him.
Sometimes, it feels scary. Especially since he hasn’t really gotten a direct answer from her yet about what she wants this to be. But they’re basically dating without the title.
He would like an answer at some point though. But it’s not stopping him from doing all he’s doing already. Or feeling all he’s feeling already.
They’re playing the Habs at home tonight, and he’s feeling good, driving into the arena now to prepare. Last night, he had Cole over for dinner and it felt like old times. They had an optional skate this morning where most of the team was present. He likes where the team is at and he’s confident about what he needs to work on in his individual game.
Walking in, he says hi to the guys, dodges a classic slap to the head from Curtis and goes to the medical room to stretch out. As he’s stretching out his calf, he spots Josh wandering through the hallway. He makes direct eye contact with Jack and comes into the room.
“Jack, hey.”
Jack smiles easily. “What can I do for you, Josh?”
“Have you seen Amelie? I have one of her cameras and I need to give it back to her before the game starts.”
“Uh, no.” Jack smirks slightly. He has an idea of where this might go. He’ll play. “Why would I know where she is?”
Josh blinks. “You two are always around each other.”
Jack tilts his head to the side, feigning innocence. “Are we?”
“Seems like it.”
“Well, no,” Jack grins. “I don’t know where she is.”
“You looking for me?” The two guys whip their heads to the doorway to see Amelie. She’s wearing a denim jacket over a simple black shirt., brown boots on her feet. The classic red ribbon is in her hair and Jack wants to kiss her so bad.
But he just nods. “Just in time.”
Josh looks to Amelie. “Your camera.”
She lights up, taking it from his hands. “Oh, right. What did you think?”
“It’s sick,” Josh admits. “I might have to add it onto my list.”
“Yeah, I saved up for that baby for two years,” Amelie laughs. “Worth it though.”
“Very worth it. Thank you for letting me borrow it. See you out there,” Josh turns to salute to Jack. “Good luck.”
“Thanks, Josh.” And then it’s just the two of them. “Hi. You look nice.”
“Thanks.” She bites her lip, making sure no one is coming down the hallway. “Does he know?”
Jack raises his eyebrows in amusement. “Know what?”
“About us?”
“We’re an us?”
She gives him an unamused look. “Jack.”
“I’m kidding,” he watches as she walks to where he is, looking up at her from where he’s sitting. “I don’t think so, to be honest. He’s a bit-”
“Unobservant,” Amelie concludes with a laugh. “Yeah, he’s a killer photographer. Has a great eye. But with everything else?” She lowers her voice. “Actually, I was gonna ask and I’m really sorry, but could you give me a ride home later? I rode with Kenny because she wanted to try this bagel place and and we just came straight here-”
“Of course,” Jack assures. “It’s not a problem at all. Ever.”
She snorts. “Yeah. Sure. I am out of your way, you know?”
“I love driving you home,” Jack admits fully with his chest. “I don’t mind it at all.”
“Okay, thanks,” she backs away. “I’ll see you out there?”
“As always,” he says, a smile still on his face as she walks out of his sight.
…..
They’re in his car after the game, a comfortable silence between them sans Amelie humming along to some he’s vaguely heard before, when things change.
“I told one of my college friends earlier today that you were my boyfriend.”
Jack almost slams on the breaks. “You did?”
“Yeah.”
Suddenly, he feels like he’s missing something. He looks over to her as he rolls his car to a stop in front of a light. “Is this your way of asking?”
She shrugs, but the streetlights expose the slight smile on her face. “Maybe. Is that bad?”
Despite himself, he laughs. “It’s definitely not what I expected.”
“I mean,” he thinks he hears her voice shake for the first time he’s known her as he pulls up to the front of her apartment complex, killing the engine. “We basically are anyways, aren’t we? And honestly, I-I think I’m ready. If you’re still interested.”
He wants to shake her silly because she’s being so ridiculous. He snorts. “If I’m still interested? Of course I’m still interested.”
“Good,” she breathes out. “Great. I, uh, yeah.”
“Yeah?” He repeats softly, afraid that this bubble will pop unexpectedly when he wants to scream happily from the rooftop. “I’m yours?”
“I’m really annoying,” she warns with a swallow. “I’m trying not to be. But I am. This is your last chance to back out. I don’t know if I know how to be a good girlfriend.”
Jack knows that’s not true and, frankly, doesn’t care. “I’m yours,” he rushes out. A firm statement this time. “However long you want me, I’m yours.”
“Okay.”
He lets out a breathy chuckle. “Okay? Can I kiss you?”
She pouts slightly. “Don’t one up me like that. I didn’t ask the first time.”
He blinks before a full fledged grin takes over his face. “You remember planting one on me in your grandparents’ kitchen?”
“I remember everything that involves you.”
Jack lunches forward to cup her cheeks and kisses her. Amelie responds immediately. He can’t believe this is happening.
They eventually pull apart and he watches her eyes open slowly as he rubs her cheeks with his thumbs. Her light grip on his wrists is the only thing keeping him tethered.
“Why haven’t you kissed me since we’ve been in Jersey?” She asks, tilting her head to the side.
“Because I didn’t know if you’d want me to,”
She visibly deflates. Jack quickly kisses her forehead lightly. He doesn’t wanna see her like that. “It’s late. I’ll let you go.”
“Okay,” she says softly, grabbing her backpack. “Goodnight. Text me when you’re home safe.”
And oh. Isn’t that lovely? “Of course. Goodnight, baby.”
The second he sees Amelie walk into her building, he dials Quinn’s number. He picks up on the fourth ring as Jack starts driving.
“Hello?”
“Dude.”
“What?” Jack hears rustling on his older brother’s end. He presumes Quinn is lounging around on his couch, freedom present in his off day.
Jack drums his fingers on the wheel, waiting for the light. “I think I have a girlfriend.”
Silence, before Quinn lets out a quiet snort. “Amelie finally say yes?”
“Hey,” Jack protests. “You’re making it sound like I’ve been begging her, which I haven’t, because that’s a dick move.”
“So what happened?”
“She said she was catching up with one of her old friends on the phone and slipped up and called me her boyfriend then we got to talking and she was like, okay.”
“That’s it?”
“Yeah.”
“And this happened, just now?”
“Literally less than a minute ago.”
Quinn chuckles. “Good on you both, dude. About time.”
“Is it supposed to feel like this?” Jack says with a swallow. “Is it too soon to feel like this?”
“Like what?”
“Like I wanna spend the rest of my life with her?”
Silence. And then a crackly, “Shit, you’re serious?”
“Don’t be an ass,” Jack scowls.
“I’m not trying to be,” Quinn says. “I’m just, holy shit. You really like her.”
Jack lets out a deep breath. “Yeah, I do.”
“Clem told me she met her the other week.”
“Yeah.”
“What did Amelie think?”
“She told me Clee was great. What did Clee say?”
“I’m not saying.”
“Ass.”
“You love me,” Quinn shoots back. “So now what?”
Jack blinks, cracking his neck. “I try not to fuck it up, I guess.”
“You’re not gonna fuck it up, dude.”
“You don’t know that.”
“You’re not gonna fuck it up,” Quinn repeats. “I’m serious. Especially not this.”
“I’ve done it once. I could do it again.”
“But you won’t. And if you do, it won’t fall to pieces. Because you won’t let it.”
Jack takes a shaky breath. He hasn’t felt anxiety this severe since the moments before he went in for surgery earlier this year. “I’m terrified.”
“Then talk to her,” Quinn says. “I’m sure she’d appreciate knowing that, to be honest. And also, I would bet money that she’s just as, if not more, scared than you are.
“Nah,” Jack brushes his brother off. “She’s so calm about this all compared to me.”
“Or she’s better at faking it,” Quinn points out. “She’s awesome, Jack, And you’re not so bad either. Don’t overthink it so much. Enjoy it. This is what you’ve wanted for months.”
“Yeah,” Jack responds, nodding to himself. “Yeah. You’re right.”
“I know. I gotta make dinner, so I’ll call you later, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“You’re good?”
“I’m perfect.”
Quinn chuckles. “Good. Congratulations, dude. She’s awesome. Can’t wait to see her when we come to play you guys.”
“Thanks, man. Love you. Talk later.”
“Love you, Jack. Bye.”
When Jack pulls into his garage, he takes a deep breath. He kills the engine, reaches for his phone and swipes through to Amelie’s texts she sent just a minute ago.
It’s a photo of him at the faceoff dot from earlier. But it’s the text underneath that has Jack grinning uncontrollably.

amelie
A fun part of the job that she didn’t expect has been seeing the familiar faces around the league that she’s known before. As in, the people she overlapped with at Michigan. There’s a lot of them.
By now, she knows who wears what number for the teams she covers. She’s not required to know the rosters of the opposing team, but she likes to pair numbers with faces and names as much as she can. It’s become a fun game for her too.
It just proves to her that this world is so incredibly small. For better or worse.
Currently, the Devils are in the midst of their game against the Sharks and all she can think is: damn, the Sharks jerseys are pretty.
The teal of it all is tickling the color theory part of Amelie’s brain so well. She wishes the teams she covered were more original in color.
As Amelie’s sifting quickly through the photos she took during the second period on her new camera, she stops at a picture of two teal jerseys celebrating their goal. Number 2 and number 71. She quickly double checks on Google. Yup. She was right. Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini
Amelie’s always been good with names. Macklin’s stuck with her after working the draft. And Will’s is just so iconic.
She checks the time. She still has 7 minutes left before the third period starts. Quickly, she connects the camera to the laptop and then the printer, printing out two copies of the same picture. She reminds herself after the game to venture towards the visitors’ locker room as soon as she can before the Sharks leave. Maybe grab Bordeleau to make it easier. Hopefully he remembers her.
Once the buzzer sounds, she pats her pocket, making sure the two photos are there. She briefly thinks of a game plan, deciding to give it at least 15 minutes so she doesn’t interrupt the locker room. She hangs out in an alcove where she knows from prior experience that she can hear the visiting’s teams general coming and goings. In the meantime, she pulls up her laptop to edit some photos.
As luck would have it, she sees a glimpse of Thomas and now she’s on a mission. In a brisk jog, she catches up to him and taps him on the shoulder.
He turns around and his face lights up in recognition. “Amelie? Holy shit.”
She smiles. “Hey Bords.”
“I thought I saw on Instagram that you’re working in the NHL now,” he gives her a quick hug. “That’s awesome. Congratulations.”
“Thank you.”
“What can I do for you?”
“Yeah. Listen, I know you guys are probably heading out pretty soon, but do you mind grabbing either Celebrini or Smith or both of them for me?” At his initial confusion, she pulls out the photos. “Thought they might want a copy.”
He nods with a small smirk. “Yeah, I’ll grab them. Be right back.” Not even a two minutes later, Thomas comes back with Macklin and Will both in tow, all back in their game day suits, though much less refined than she’s sure they were walking in.
She puts on her professional smile, sticking her hand out. “Hi. I’m Amelie. Uh, I’m a photographer with the NHL,” she hands the rookies the photos. “I took this in the second period and I figured maybe you’d want a copy? No charge. Just keep a bit hush about that.”
Macklin takes the photos as Will looks over his shoulder. “These are sick. Thank you so much.”
“You’re so welcome.”
“How do you know Bordy?” Will asks.
“We went to college together,” she replies.
“Michigan?” She nods. Will continues. “You must know Rutger and Shea then. And Luke. Unless you didn’t overlap?”
Amelie laughs. “Oh, I know them very well. I was Rut’s TA. He loved that.”
“It’s beautiful there,” Macklin says. “I train there in the summers now and it’s so nice.”
Right. He trains with Jack. Go figure. “It is,” she reminisces, trying not to get too emotional about what home means to her in a literal and metaphorical sense.
“Do you work for the Devils now?” Thomas asks.
“Kinda,” Amelie says, redoing her hair and aimlessly retying her bow. “I cover the Devils and Flyers mainly, but Rangers and Islanders as well. I technically work with the NHL rather than a specific team.”
“Have we met?” Macklin asks with an innocent tilt of his head.
“Maybe?” She says. “I was at the draft. So possibly in passing. And maybe if you came to Yost? I can’t remember what year BU came to play in Michigan.”
“I never did at BU,” Macklin says. “But the draft makes sense.”
She backs away. “I won’t keep you for long so-ah!” She crashes into someone and whips around to see Jack, one side of his lips quirked up.
“Watch where you’re going,” he says with a playful tilt.
“What are you doing here?” She shoots back.
“Josh was looking for you, actually, and I just saw you out here.”
She looks down at her feet, because deep down, she knows it’s because he was purposefully looking for her. But she doesn’t mind the vagueness, especially in front of Thomas, Macklin and Will.
Jack does some sort of bro handshake with all three of them, paired with a friendly nod. “What’s up?”
Macklin grins. “Amelie here took a picture of me and Will and wanted to give it to us.”
Jack leans over to look at the picture and lets out a small chuckle. “Yeah, that’s a keeper.”
Amelie gives a parting smile. “It was nice to meet you both, and good to see you again, Bords.”
“Thank you for the picture,” Will says sincerely. “You didn’t have to do that.”
Amelie just shrugs, accepting a quick hug from Thomas before backing away and letting Jack say his parting words.
When he faces her directly, his back towards his fellow hockey players, in his Devils sweatshirt and his wet hair fresh from the shower, she swallows.
He’s hers. Isn’t that great?
“Hi,” she says softly when he gets in earshot.
“Hey,” he says. She wants to kiss him so bad. “Did you drive here today?”
“No. I carpooled with Kenny. Is she still in there?”
“I’m not sure,” he says. “How much longer you need?”
She hums, hands automatically fiddling with the camera around her neck. “Maybe 20 minutes?”
“I can drive you home.”
“You sure?” She whispers. “I don’t wanna keep you. I’m sure you’re tired.”
“Being here for 20 extra won’t hurt me,” they stop before parting to different hallways. “I’ll come knock on your door in a bit, yeah?”
“Yeah,” she nods with a small smile. “See you.”
(As the three Sharks watch Jack and Amelie walk away, they all notice how Jack’s hand doesn’t quite touch Amelie’s, but it’s damn close. And their bodies are tuned to each other in a way that goes beyond mere coworkers.
Macklin blinks. “It’s none of my business, but are they-”
“Yup,” Thomas responds. “I follow her on Instagram. They’re definitely dating.”
“Huh,” Will comments. “That’s kinda cute. The sports photographer and the player. Think Grace made me watch a movie like that once.”
“She’s great,” Thomas says with a nostalgic tilt in his voice. “We were both freshmen at the same time and I just, I don’t know. It’s awesome to see where she’s ended up.”
“Did you ever predict that she and Jack-”
Thomas snorts. “No. Absolutely not. Not any hockey player, to be honest. She was just always on the quieter end and seemed way too smart for any of us, because she is. But she’s, just, so great.”
The two rookies hum, watching as the couple turns the corner out of view.)
~*~*~
amelie
They finally, finally go on that Manhattan date, on a brief break where Jack doesn’t have any games and a day that Amelie is also free. The con is that he doesn’t tell her what they’re doing, only says “trust me” and “wear something you can walk in and be warm in and is a little fancy but not too much.”
She appreciates it, she does. And Jack elicits nothing but comfort and ease, especially since their conversation a week and a half ago. So she is trying to be at ease with the lack of knowing the plans. But by the time Jack knocks on her door a little bit after 2 p.m., she’s been dressed for over an hour, pacing around for almost the same amount of time.
She whips open the door and smiles, momentarily taken aback. “Hi.”
He laughs a bit, eyes sparkling. He has a canvas jacket tossed over a plain black t-shirt and black jeans. He looks clean and fresh and so cute. “Hi. Ready to go?”
“Mmhm.”
He waits for her to grab her bag and jacket, before interlacing their fingers and kissing their locked hands. “You look pretty.”
She tucks herself into his side, feeling giddy. “Thanks. You’re sweet.”
“I’m glad we’re finally able to do this.”
“I am too, but I think you’re a bit crazy for wanting to drive into the city.”
Jack shrugs. “It’s not too bad. Nico does it all the time with Clee. I’ve picked her up from the hospital before. As long as you don’t mind possible traffic. Besides, want you to be comfortable.”
She just looks at him, marveling at how much he really likes her. She wishes she was used to this feeling. Not wanting to dwell outwardly on that right now, she changes the subject. “What are we doing?”
“What do you mean? You know what we’re doing.”
“I know that you asked me if I knew of any places to eat in the city for a late lunch or dessert,” she deadpans as they get into his car. “I know you have more up your sleeve.”
He grins. “Maybe I do. Maybe I don’t.”
“Jack-”
His hand rests on her thigh and he squeezes lightly. “Hey. I got it, okay? Just worry about having a good time.”
She sinks back into her seat, shooting him a glare. He laughs and she softens. “Fine. Sorry. I didn’t mean to sound snippy.”
“No need to be sorry,” he responds easily. “How was your day yesterday?”
They talk the whole time it takes for them to get into Manhattan. As always, Amelie’s on the aux. She hasn’t told Jack yet, but she’s started making a playlist of songs that she’s played that he’s noted that he likes or seems to bop his head to. Jack parks in a garage attached to a hotel in Soho, right by the sushi place that Amelie suggested per Colette. (“You’ve met my brothers. When do I get to meet your sisters?” Jack had joked. And the thought of that didn’t terrify Amelie as much as she thought it would.”) He doesn’t even give her the chance when the check comes, snatching it away despite Amelie very much verbally disagreeing.
He waves her off, as he signs. “Amelie. No. Don’t worry about it.”
“I’m getting the next one,” she says adamantly.
“We’ll see,” he says.
“Jack.”
“We’ll see,” he repeats with a smirk. “Ready to go?”
She grabs her bag and jacket. “To where, exactly?”
“You’ll see. We’re hopping on the train.”
She lets him lead, even leaning her forehead against his chest on the train when it’s packed. They ride mostly in silence as she takes in the city. This isn’t even close to her first time in Manhattan, but it’s always a bit overwhelming. Jack’s steady presence calms her down, especially when the train jolts and he automatically steadies her.
When they get off at the 42nd Street station, Amelie has an inkling she knows where this is heading. She gives Jack a look, but he just holds her hand firmly in his as they exit the busy station.
“Are you taking me to a show?”
He turns from where he was walking slightly in front of her with a smile. “Busted.”
She feels her heart dropping down to her feet. “Jack.”
“Well, hold on,” he jokes. “You don’t know what show yet.” She’s still in a daze, because she’s maybe only mentioned in passing how much she loves Broadway and musical theater and she’s trying to wrap her head around the fact that he remembered enough to incorporate into their first date. Tickets aren’t cheap, especially with-
“Jack,” she says as they glide to a stop in front of Richard Rodgers Theater. “No. You didn’t.”
He grins, exaggeratedly gesturing at the “Hamilton” billboard. “I did. I don’t know much about Broadway, but even I know Hamilton is supposed to be a great show.” Amelie’s so incredibly touched as she continues staring at Jack in disbelief. People are walking by them in a blur and all she can focus on is his smile, that slowly turns unsure the longer she stays silent. “I also did reach out to Charlotte on Instagram after I saw she followed me and asked if you would like this.”
That’s a loaded sentence. “Y-you asked my sister?” She sputters out.
“Well, yeah,” Jack shrugs sheepishly. “I wanted to make sure it was a good idea.”
“This is too much,” she finally chokes out.
“But in a good way?”
“I-I’ve always dreamed of seeing Hamilton live.”
“Dope,” he holds out his hand with an easy smile. “Come on. Let’s go in.”
She looks at him, takes a deep breath and intertwines their hands.

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY✩༶‧˚
GENRE + T/W: sfw, fluff. WORD COUNT: 3.8k words. TAGS: satoru gojo x fem!oc. lovesick!gojo, lovesick!oc. hardcore mutual pining.
SYNOPSIS: oc gojo girlfriend and satoru are assigned an overnight mission together, but what happens when there's only one bed? AUTHOR'S NOTE: this fic takes place one week after love at first fight, so be sure to read it to know what happened last week 😊 and yes, satoru is the enemy in this title. the one tricky thing about writing student!satoru and oc gojo girlfriend is doing the research of what was used back in 2006-2007. like earphones and an mp3 player?! REMINDER: if you want to imagine yourself in oc gojo girlfriend's character descriptions instead, please do!
“hey (y/n)! yaga-sensei is looking for you.” suguru greeted you as he passed by you in the hallway of tokyo jujutsu high. you had just got out of the community showers after a very tiring close combat training session with mei mei.
you tossed your towel behind your shoulder, “he is? why?”
it's never a good thing when yaga-sensei is looking for anyone—that meant that you were in trouble or you had a mission. you haven't been assigned any missions yet, and you already got in trouble the other day for hemming your uniform skirt too short.
“he said to meet him in the classroom,” suguru said with an amusing smile, “i think you’re going to go on your first mission.”
“what?! really?!” you were so excited. you had been at jujutsu high for over a month now. yaga-sensei didn’t want to send you on any missions until you brushed up on your close combat. he knew that you could defend and attack in long ranges due to your cursed technique, but he didn’t want you to risk getting injured because you couldn’t fight at a close range yet—so you worked extra hard to get better at close combat.
“yup! i think you’ll have a great first mission.” suguru confidently said knowing damn well that your first mission would be with the one and only—satoru gojo.
you entered the first years' classroom, sliding the door shut behind you.
"hi (y/n), glad you could make it." yaga-sensei started, "i'm sending you on your first mission tomorrow."
"okay, that's great, but what's he doing here?" you pointed at the white haired sorcerer.
yaga-sensei cleared his throat, "he'll be your partner for your upcoming mission. satoru has kindly offered to join."
"hey." satoru waved, greeting you with a smug smile.
you started to feel your cheeks burn in mortification, "can i go with suguru instead?"
satoru was offended and wanted to know why you didn't want to go on a mission with him. he wanted to spend time with you, so how could you ask for suguru instead? the girl he was chasing wanted his bestfriend out of all people? he folded his arms in dissatisfaction, "suguru is busy. what's wrong wi—"
your sensei saved you by interrupting, "i'll brief the you two tomorrow before you leave on your mission. make sure to be ready by 5pm."
later that night: (y/n)'s dorm room
you and shoko were painting your nails in your dorm room as you updated her on what had happened earlier today.
"sensei's sending you on your very first mission with gojo?" shoko giggled, painting dark green nail polish on her fingernails.
you frowned, "i mean... it's not a bad thing, since satoru's really strong and all. but out of all people—why does it have to be him?"
"probably because there is a whopping total of 6 students here at jujutsu high. that gives you a high probability of going on a mission with gojo at least once in your life."
"we haven't really talked since last week." you sighed.
"you two haven't actually had any alone time since that day he took you shopping for your birthday." shoko realized, "—and then the idiot got in trouble for sneaking out of your dorm room that morning..."
"yeah, let's not talk about that," you blushed at the memory, overflowing your nails with baby blue nail polish on accident. (read 'love at first fight' here)
shoko reassured you, "you'll be fine! it's gojo after all—the mission should be a piece of cake and you'll be back in no time."
the next day: mission briefing
"the city of chiba has requested that we exorcise any curses that are in the area of a new department store that they are in the process of building." yaga-sensei started, "they requested one sorcerer grade 1 or higher as it's a time crunch for them and they’re willing to pay the premium. this is easily a grade 3 or 4 mission, so i figured this would be a great first time mission for you to shadow, (y/n)."
"and you get the best person to shadow." satoru bragged knowing it was him you were shadowing.
you rolled your eyes at him, adverting your attention back to your sensei, "i'm guessing this a one-day mission and we leave tomorrow?"
yaga-sensei cleared his throat, "actually, it's overnight. jujutsu high has a reservation at the daiwa roynet hotel across the street from the department store lot. you two will be leaving tonight, spending the night in chiba to get an early start on your mission and then coming back in the evening. i expect a full report the morning after you come back."
overnight?
you and satoru had to share a hotel room overnight?
you peered over at satoru. he was tipped back in his chair, balancing on the back two legs, his arms folded behind his head. he looked very content with this mission. your heart felt like it was going to jump out of your chest and roll out the door.
satoru turned to look at you, "ready to go, (y/n)? you got your big girl pants on for your first mission?"
you shot an ice shard at him, hitting his infinity as he hehehe'd in his seat. yaga-sensei massaged his temples watching his two special grade students go at it.
‘are these two ever going to finally admit they like each other?’ the sensei asked himself.
"are we leaving or not?" you barked at satoru, holding out your arm for him to link his through so you could teleport with him.
satoru winked at his sensei and gave him two finger guns before taking your arm to loop over his, "see you later, sensei."
satoru clasped his hands and just like that—you were in shibuya station.
*****************************
"you have to work on your long distance transportation so we don't have to take the subway, satoru." you bullied your partner.
"i told you last week that i was working on it." satoru rolled his pretty blue eyes at you. "—i'm able to teleport further and further now."
"so how long until we get to chiba?" you asked satoru.
"it's about an hour by subway."
you and satoru were sitting side by side in the subway car. you could hear the rubber wheels rolling against the tracks, the voices of people talking, and the sounds from a teenager's video game sitting across from you. as you leaned over to dig in your bag for your earphones, your hand accidentally brushed satoru's.
you murmured an apology, "sorry..."
satoru raised his eyebrow, leaning into you and whispering in your ear. "if you want to hold my hand, all you have to do is ask."
"i don't want to hold your hand, satoru." you lied.
you looked over at satoru's hand that rested on his left thigh. his fingers were slender, nails and cuticles trimmed neatly. they looked soft. you wished that you had the courage to hold his hand.
he grinned, shaking his head in disbelief. he loved your feistiness. he could never get you to flirt back with him to save his life, but he lived for your retorts.
you went back to untangling your earphones so that you could listen to your mp3 player. after a moment, you turned to him, holding out the other half of your earphones, "wanna listen?"
"before i take this, what kind of music do you listen to?" satoru jabbed at you, "you seem like you'd only listen to pretty boy idols."
you rolled your eyes at him, "i actually have a wide taste in music. right now i'm listening to american 80's. they're my dad's favorite songs."
you smiled at the memory of touya handing you a cd from your father’s large collection of music. he told you that your father was a huge 80's fan before his passing. you spent a majority of your childhood listening to your father’s collection growing up.
satoru took the earphone from you and stuck it in his ear. his stared off into the corner of the subway car.
"so what's this song called?" he asked you, genuinely curious. he wanted to get to know you more, so this was his way of trying.
"it's called 'nothing's gonna change my love for you' by george benson." you beamed, "the love songs were so great in the 80's."
"it's nice."
"you haven't even listened to the whole song yet." you giggled, "do you even know what it's about?"
satoru laughed, "obviously nothing getting in the way of this guy's love for his girl."
"ooh! let me show you another one of my favorites." you said excitedly, "it's called 'nothing compares 2 u' by prince! he wrote it in the 80's but sinead o'connor released it in the 90's..." you continued to ramble.
satoru heart melted at the way your face lit up while you showed him some of your favorite old school songs. he had no idea what the hell you were talking about, but your bright and animated smile drew him in. he couldn't not listen to you talk about your favorite things in the world. he wanted to know every little thing about you. he wanted to always be by your side so that you could tell him about anything that made you happy.
later that night: checking into the hotel
after the hour long subway ride, you and satoru walked to the daiwa roynet hotel so you could check-in for the night.
satoru held your backpack for you as you walked up to the front desk. the front desk employee greeted you. "hi! welcome to the daiwa roynet hotel. how can i help you?"
"hi! we have a reservation under (y/n) (l/n) or satoru gojo. jujutsu high school should've made the reservation."
the employee smiled and nodded as they looked up the reservation. they started to furrow their eyebrows. it looked like something was wrong.
"i'm sorry, miss. we tried to contact you about your hotel room reservation, but we couldn't reach anyone."
"what's wrong with the reservation?" you asked, confused.
"it was originally booked for two queen beds, but we only have rooms with one standard queen bed at the moment."
"that can't be right..." you panicked, "what phone number did you call?"
you looked at your phone to see if you got a missed call. no missed calls were in your log.
“satoru, did you get a phone call by any chance?" you called out to him. satoru walked up to the front desk to join you. he looked at his phone as well, seeing no missed calls either.
"we called this number," the hotel employee recited a number that wasn't yours or satoru's.
"it's yaga-sensei's phone number." satoru said as he recognized the number.
the hotel employee apologized, "i'm sorry. will one bed do? we can refund you the cost of the two beds. or we can give you two separate rooms."
"ummm—" you bit your lip in hesitation. you weren't sure what to say. even though you and satoru shared your bed last week, would it be okay for you two to do this again? should you get an separate room instead and ask for reimbursement from jujutsu high later?
"that's fine. we'll just take the single bed. no need to make a huge fuss out of it." satoru replied back to the hotel employee with a wink. the employee handed him the room key and bowed to the both of you, appreciating your understanding.
as satoru led the way to the hotel room, your face started to fill with worry. were you really supposed to share a bed with satoru tonight? you were already so embarrassed about what happened last week in your dorm room. how could this happen?
satoru stopped in front of the room, unlocking the door with the room key and opening the door to enter. there was the dreaded single queen sized bed, an arm chair in the corner, and a tv sitting on top of the large dresser. not only did you have to share a bed with satoru, you had to share a bathroom too?
'could this mission get any worse?' you thought to yourself.
"you can take the bed. i'll sleep in the arm chair." satoru said nonchalantly.
"are you sure? i can sleep in the chair. i'm smaller than you." you said. by a whole foot, to be exact.
satoru feigned chivalry, "my grams would kill me if i did such an un-gentlemanly thing."
"i'll have to thank your grandma one day." you said with a giggle. "you take the shower first then."
"don't gotta tell me twice." satoru sang. he loved hot showers. he would always fight for who would get to shower first back at the dorms. satoru set down both of your backpacks and dug for his clothes and toiletries.
*****************************
you sat in the arm chair that satoru was going to be sleeping on. it was uncomfortable and barely had any cushion. was he really going to sleep on this? you felt guiltier and guiltier the more you sat in this chair. you ordered extra pillows and blankets from room service in hopes that it would help provide some comfort for him tonight.
you spent time reading over the mission details, twirling your long black hair between your fingers. you heard the bathroom door open, steam flowing out of the bathroom. satoru stepped out, tousling his damp hair. he was wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt.
"your turn." he motioned for you to hit the shower.
you teased him, "i hope you didn't take all the hot water."
"i saved some for you, princess." he shot back with a grin.
you quickly grabbed your clothes and toiletries, closing the door behind you. back at the school, the community showers were separated by women and men. sitting outside this bathroom door was satoru gojo, and that made your heart race.
while you showered, you wondered what satoru was thinking about right now. you thought about the subway ride and how he listened to your father’s favorite songs with you. you thought about how you actually wanted to hold his hand, even though you lied and told him no. and lastly, you thought about your feelings for satoru... they were growing day by day. did he feel the same way about you?
after your shower, you blew dry your hair (it always took a long time since it was so long), did your skincare routine, and brushed your teeth. you changed into a baggy long sleeve shirt and pajama shorts. you flipped off the bathroom light, finding satoru curled up in the arm chair with the extra pillows and blankets you ordered for him. he was trying his best to sleep in the unbearably cramped chair that was clearly not made for men over six feet tall.
"goodnight, satoru." you said, climbing into the bed. you frowned while looking at him. your heart shattered at the poor sight.
"night, (y/n)." he replied, eyes closed, brows furrowed. he was clearly miserable.
*****************************
you tossed and turned for the last hour. you couldn't sleep. you watched satoru sleep in the arm chair—or tried to sleep in the arm chair. he had adjusted his freakishly tall body so that he could lay upright. he said he wanted to be a gentleman and let you sleep on the bed, but you still felt guilt-ridden.
“satoru.” you whispered his name. no answer came from him. you tried calling his name again, a little louder this time, “satoru gojo.”
he opened one eye, squinting at you with his arms folded against his chest. “what do you want, (y/n)? i'm trying to sleep.” he asked you, voice groggy and laced with a hint of annoyance.
kissing the back of your teeth, you got out of the bed and stomped over to him, grabbing his hand and pulling him off the chair towards you and the damn hotel bed. satoru raised his eyebrows.
“i like women who take the lead.” he joked while rubbing the sleepiness away from his face.
you shot him a glare, “shut up—i just feel bad that you’re sleeping on the chair when this bed can clearly fit two people…” you trailed off awkwardly, avoiding eye contact with him. you felt your cheeks turning cherry red, thankful that it was dark so that satoru couldn’t see your blushing face.
satoru smiled at you, his hand scratching the back of his undercut. you were still holding his hand—and honestly? he hoped that you wouldn't let go.
“just keep your hands to yourself this time.” you muttered as you quickly let go of his hand, still embarrassed from the events of last week. deep down, you secretly hoped he wouldn't listen to you.
he gave you his signature shit eating grin and saluted you, “yes ma’am.”
the next morning
your alarm rang at 7am. you and satoru had to be at the department store lot by 9am. 2 hours would give you enough time to get ready and grab breakfast downstairs.
you yawned as you turned into a bare, broad chest. your head resting on a strong right bicep. your eyes widened, your hand came up to cover your mouth. '
damn it, not again!', you cursed yourself.
"glad we were able to do this again." satoru greeted you in reference from his statement last week, his eyes still closed. he felt you wake up when you turned into his chest just moments ago.
"ugh, satoru gojo! what did i say about keeping your hands to yourself?!" you hissed at him.
"i kept my hands to myself. you're the one who cuddled up right next to me and then attempted to use my arm as a pillow. as a gentleman, i couldn’t not let you use my arm as a pillow." he sat up, dramatically rotating his arm from having its' circulation cut off. "ugh, i have dead arm now from your big head."
"hey, i don't have a big head!" you threw your pillow at him, only for it to hit his infinity.
satoru's frosty white bedhead caught your attention. it was so unfair how statuesque he looked in the mornings. you felt like you looked like a troll doll compared to him.
"do you always have to take off your shirt in the middle of the night? or do you only do this when you get a chance to sleep next to me?" you questioned him with a strong but sleepy glare from your emerald green eyes.
satoru slyly admitted, "it gets hot at night. especially when you're cuddling."
"i never asked you to cuddle me, so you didn't have to take off your shirt." you retorted.
"well, i don’t think i can ever sleep alone anymore. having a personal heater is nice, especially during the cold winter months.” satoru sarcastically teased. sleeping next to you was something he could definitely get used to, even if it wasn't cold.
you folded your arms and looked away from him, “well, you’re going to have to get used to sleeping alone again when we get back to jujutsu high. you’re not my boyfriend so you can't just sleep next to me whenever you want.”
satoru leaned in towards you, grabbing your arm. he asked in a lower tone, sending shivers down your spine, “can i be your boyfriend then?”
“no.” you quickly answered before flicking his forehead.
satoru winced and palmed his forehead, chuckling as he watched you get out of bed to dash to the bathroom in embarrassment.
EXTRA:
you were in your dorm room writing your post-mission report for yaga-sensei that was due in the morning, your pencil scribbling and scrabbling as you watched the snow fall outside your window. you were unknowingly tracing hearts on your paper.
you thought about how satoru always made you feel so shy ever since you came to jujutsu high. as a matter of fact, your heart never failed to race around him. you couldn’t tell if he liked you or not—or if he just flirted with every girl like that. you could feel your heart opening up to the white haired sorcerer with each passing moment you spent with him. this last mission didn't help either as you spent a close proximity with him at all times.
love. something you never thought you’d find here at jujutsu high, especially with satoru gojo. was love really possible between you and him? no way. satoru was... well—he was the satoru gojo. why would he want to be with someone like you? a sorcerer who couldn't even control her own powers, someone who could barely fight in close combat, someone so weak... you beat yourself up over your flaws, not knowing that somebody else might love you despite them.
you heard four knocks on your door. it was well past curfew, who would be knocking at your door this late? maybe shoko needed to borrow your pre-calculus notes? knowing her, she was usually up late studying.
you got up from your desk and tightened your robe. you opened your dorm room door to find satoru gojo standing in front of you—speak of the handsome devil.
“w-what are you doing here? it's past c-curfew.” you stammered, feeling a flush fill your cheeks. you didn't want satoru to know you were just thinking of him. he would never let you live it down.
he gave you a sheepish look, scratching the back of his head like he always did when he was nervous. “can i spend the night?”
you stared at him for a moment. was satoru gojo really asking to spend another night with you? he gave you his signature grin in hopes that you’d let him into your room—and maybe into your heart one day.
you rolled your pretty green eyes and sighed, “fine... only because it's cold tonight.”
you opened the door for him to enter your room. satoru snuck by you and quickly jumped onto your very comfortable king sized bed, getting under the covers before you changed your mind and kicked him out.
“—and keep your hands to yourself.” you reminded him again as you walked towards him.
“no promises, sweetheart.” he cheekily retorted as he laced his fingers with yours to pull you into your own bed. you plopped down next to him.
“want an arm pillow?” he asked softly. looking over to see your pretty face that he couldn’t stop thinking about. he’d gladly wake up with dead arm in the morning if that’s what it took to sleep next to you every night.
you shyly replied, “yes, please.”
satoru gave you his right arm as you snuggled up next to him, laying your head on his bicep. he curled his arm against your back and pressed you against his side. you could hear his heart beating rapidly. was it possible that he could hear yours too?
“(y/n)?” he called out your name, interrupting your sweet thoughts.
“yes, satoru?”
“do you like suguru more than me?”
you groaned, “god—satoru, go to sleep.”
he squeezed you tightly in hopes of hearing what he wanted you to say, “answer the question.”
“yes, i totally like suguru more than you.” you lied as you sighed in disbelief, “satoru, you’re literally sleeping right next to me for a third time since we met over a month ago. make it make sense, please.”
you could sense that satoru had his signature shit eating grin on his face. “alright, (y/n). just making sure.”
and in that moment, you thought that maybe love was possible with satoru gojo.

DCA Promptober Day 11: Naptime
Y'all had your fun, now it's back to business. This goes from 0 to 100 real fast so please pay attention to the content warning, also adding a read more just in case.
Word count: 956
Content warning: mentions of blood, injury, child death, reader descresion is advised
🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
It's naptime, and you're not asleep.
Oh, how you would be if you could. How you so desperately wish that you could. You stand no chance at reaching the light switch. No chance at saving the day. The only thing you can do is sit crowded in a hidden corner of the play structure with the few kids you could grab. Like a coward. Arms tightly around them to try and shield them as best you can from the danger lurking outside.
You think, hope, pray, that some of them are actually asleep out there. That they didn't get woken up by the screams of the children who happened to wake up. The others though, god the others, you can't, you won't-these kids need you. Need you to be brave, need you to protect them. You don't think you can.
One of them makes a small whimper, you near silently shush her, pulling her more into your chest so if she sobs, it'll be muffled. She clings to you tightly, and you suppress a wince. The wound across your chest thankfully isn't deep, but it hurt, and you had no way to stop the bleeding currently.
You had felt your entire world shut down at that moment. Witness everything come plummeting down so suddenly. Instead of not being able to look away from a car crash, you were experiencing the crash. And it hurt.
You blame yourself, even if someone else would argue it's not your fault. You didn't know. Hell, you don't think even Sun knew. Is he even okay? Is he gone too? Not until it happened. Not until you turned off the lights.
"Alright," You turn, watching as Moon appears, "Everybody's down for the count, they're pretty exhausted from freeze tag so we should have an easy go of it. In the meantime, I found my copy of The Princess Bride, I say we find a good vantage point and get a couple chapters in. What do you say to that?"
No response. He just stares at you.
This has been happening sometimes lately, you think it may just be a delay in the switch. You know he's been self-conscious about it, so you try to make light of it.
You make a radio noise with your mouth, "Cht. Earth to Moon-man. This is mission control, requesting cuddles and story-time while on the job. Do you copy?"
Something clicks.
"Ye-yes, yes, let's... do that," He shakes his head, seeming, groggy.
You giggle quietly, "Are you sure you don't need a nap, sleepy head?"
It takes another second, you swear you see his optics flash another color before he shakes his head again, chuckling.
"Not at all," He offers his hand to you, "Shall we?"
You grin to yourself, doing your best to contain your excitement. You've been waiting for ages to get into this book with him. Not to mention spending unrestricted one-on-one time.
You take it, feeling a rush once the two of you start flying through the air.
From there, things are good. Great even. You and Moon are able to get through the prologue and first chapter or so. The problem arises when suddenly, the power goes out to the rest of the Plex.
You look up, instinctively putting a hand on the arm Moon has around you, "What's going on?"
"I'm, not sure."
The sudden lack of noise rouses one of the kids, he sits up, rubbing at his eyes with a yawn.
"Ah, shoot, Morgan's up. Here, help me down and I'll-" You're suddenly cold as Moon abruptly stands up, jumping down from the play structure without a word.
Confused, you follow after him, taking a nearby slide.
You walk over to where he towers over the boy-not his usual routine for these things that should have been your first clue-and get there in time to overhear;
"It's past your bedtime."
That's, not his usual voice. Well, it is. But there's something off about it.
Morgan notices too, he looks a bit frightened by the gravely sound.
Moon's faceplate tilts to the side, "Naughty children must be punished."
It's then that you think to look down to his hand where, when did he get claws. Why would Moon ever need claws, that kind of upgrade is only for Monty or Freddy-
He's raising his hand, Morgan is cowering. You need to move.
Without thinking, you dash in between the two, arms out wide to shield the child behind you.
Moon hesitates, stuttering, glitching, but his hands slices across your chest all the same.
Morgan screams, you hiss at the pain. Moon suddenly disappears into the dark above the Daycare. And kids start to wake up.
Everything from there is a blur. You remembering panicking, trying to calm down crying kids. your chest being on fire, and then everything suddenly getting ten times worse.
You still don't know what's going on out there. Out in the rest of the Plex. You don't know why no one has come to check on you all, come to save you, nobody's going to save you, just done something. But you have no way of reaching out. No way of getting out of here either. For now, you have to survive. You have to. You have to try.
You become aware of someone looking at you before you actually see the light crawl across the floor before landing on you and the backs of the kids.
Your grip becomes firmer, face more determined, as the sound of bells gets closer and closer. You take a deep breath, and steel your gaze to look at him.
Red eyes face yours on the other side of the plastic cage.
It's naptime. And you're not asleep.

Current Plans + Musings
I don't plan on playing Exedra to the degree I did for Magia Record, or playing it at all. Because of that, I won't be taking an active role in the community and archiving anything for it. Of course, if Exedra has like amazing gameplay and stories then this is all subject to change, but for now I think I'm done with phone games.
The two youtube channels will stay up and I'll check em periodically to make sure there aren't copyright strikes against the content. I've saved all my raw files, especially for the battle animations, so I can remake them in the future if the music ever becomes a problem for some reason.
Google Drive will stay up until Google rots away. I haven't recorded footage in a long time (as in stories, I do for the character doppels and such), but I'll upload things if they're sent to me.
Magia Union Translations still plans on translating things and making videos, especially leading up to the end, but also for after the game is over for whatever wasn't made in time. I'm not sure what form this will take in the future-- if it'll be manual captions added to the videos or not, but I know it WILL happen.
As for this blog, I'm not going to delete it or anything. However I'm going to be taking a step back. I'd like to say that I'll do liveblogs but I mean... *gestures at blog* I've been saying that for years and the only one I really did successfully was the Oriko one lmao. Ahhh oh well.
I'll have more words later, but it was really fun to be part of a fandom experience like this. I'm excited to work on my own original story projects though and quiet down a bit.
...
When I started this blog, I never expected it to have people actually read it. Or look at it. I just wanted a place to gush about how much fun I was having. I didn't even want to tag the posts with "Magia Record" at first because I was terrified people would be mean at me, haha.
But I'm glad I did. I made so many good friends through this game. I'm glad it existed. And it made me happy to have a place where people cared about what I had to say. Some folks actually got their news from here, can you imagine that? They had notifications turned on for this blog. My god.
Anyways, I'm going to be here for the next two months, and tomorrow I'll start reblogging fan projects and initiatives, plus general news. Maybe this blog will turn into a dumping site for art and fanfic reblogs, who knows. I might watch the remaining stuff and add various thoughts here and there.
Otherwise, you can find me on my main blog @malignmuffin, which only reblogs stuff (I don't talk much if at all there). I have another tumblr blog for my comic, but I think I'll reshare the name once I actually have content you can look at on it. It's pretty bare bones for the moment.
Actually it'll be funny if the end of this game is what makes me finally work on it again. I was in the process of working on it when NA came out, and it totally derailed me. Stopped writing, drawing, just focused on this silly little phone game. Now it's like those five years have gone by and I'm going back to where I started, except I think my lil comic is going to be a bit better than it was before. If I actually make it, that is.
If I ever do actually make my comic and start posting it, I'll be sure to update y'all here. hah
Anyways, thanks for being on this wild ride with me. The memories have been great, and I'm glad I had this experience, even if it had to end.

[FIC] Good Luck Charm
Fandom: The Sandman Pairing: Dreamling Rated: G Word Count: 3059 Tags: MerHob x Human Dream AU, merman Hob, human Dream, canon role reversal, pre-relationship, treating minor injuries, brief inexplicit mention of blood, handwavy marine medical science, including such highly technical terms as 'goo'
Notes: This fills @dreamlingbingo square C2 - Almost Caught combined with October monthly prompt Injury Recovery. This is set within a MerHob AU that I have yet to actually write or publish anything else in; I've done my best to keep it sense-making and easy to follow but there are also notes on the AU at the end, for the curious.
Summary: When Dream's merman friend is late to their usual meeting, Dream is worried. And with good reason, as it turns out.
On AO3
Dream is beginning to worry. His sea-stranger usually shows up just before sunrise when they meet, but sunrise was half an hour ago and there has been no sign of him. Dream paces the ankle-deep water of the cave out in the middle of White Horse Bay, agitation building in his blood; he doesn't know where or how he could even begin to look for his friend if necessary, has no way to contact or find him save meeting here. He doesn't even have a name, let alone any idea where to find others of his friend's kind to ask after him.
He's fairly certain he, being human, would not be well-received regardless.
If something has happened to his friend, odds are Dream will never know. And the thought distresses him.
It's nearing an hour past sunrise when his friend finally surfaces quietly at the mouth of their cave, and the relief Dream feels is immense.
"You're late," he smiles, a gentle tease, but any lightness vanishes as soon as he takes in his friend's expression.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," the merman grits back, his usual bright grin greatly marred by the pain in his face. He doesn't hoist himself into the cave as usual, either. "Ran into a bit of trouble further out. Could use your help, actually." He shifts in the water, floats up on his side, and Dream gasps.
There's a sizeable gash along his friend's left flank, angling behind him, orange scales and blue spots clouded by a sluggishly seeping red. It doesn't look deep, thankfully, and it's maybe half the length of Dream's forearm; plenty big, certainly, but also not as bad as it might have been. "What happened?" he breathes, dropping to sit on the edge of the cave floor, knees tucked into the water next to his friend's injured tail.
"It's stupid, really," the merman says, grimacing as he twists to pull his carry-bag out of the water. It's laden with various types of kelp, Dream sees as it's hoisted onto the barely-submerged rock floor. "Got distracted out past the reef, looking for—well. Wasn't paying attention the way I should and I ran into the fishing nets. While they were being reeled in, mind, and I kind of panicked. Had to cut my way free and I sliced myself in the process." He grins, sheepish and still clearly pained. "Like I said. Stupid."
"Unfortunate, perhaps," Dream offers. "An accidental injury while in fear for one's life is hardly stupid. How do we treat this?"
His friend nods toward the bag, one hand on the rock floor to keep himself anchored as he floats. "Kelp. The fluffy one helps to stop the bleeding and prevent infection; numbs it up a bit too. The lacy one will stick to my scales if it's smeared with the goop in the nodules from the other one. I just can't really reach it properly by myself without another set of hands—ow." He grimaces as he bumps gently against the rock wall next to Dream's knees.
"I'll help, of course," Dream says, immediately. "Tell me what to do?"
"Thank you," his friend says, rolling a little in the water to bring the injury to the surface. "Just burst the little goo pods onto the lacy one and spread it around the edges. Then we put the fluffy one right on the wound and stick the lacy one over it to hold it in place."
"Tell me if I do it wrong," Dream murmurs, sorting the kelp from his friend's bag and doing as instructed. The liquid in the pods is slick and spreads easily, not at all sticky, but he trusts his sea-stranger knows what he's talking about.
"Here, I've got this," the merman says, voice tight as he lays a sprig of the fluffy kelp over his wound, which is still bleeding sluggishly. "Just slap the other over to hold it in place?"
Dream nods, leaning down enough to spread the goo-slathered seaweed over the kelp-covered wound. It adheres immediately to the scaled surface of his friend's tail, and Dream is fascinated despite himself at what must be a natural chemical reaction between the kelp goo and the glyco-protein coating on his merman's scales.
"Thank you," his friend says, as they smooth the 'bandage' into place. "Definitely easier with more hands." He grins, brighter than a moment ago. "Usually I'd have gone to the healer back home but I was already halfway here and later than usual."
Dream is struck by the unspoken sentiment under those words, touched that their meetings are as important to his sea-stranger as they are to him. "I would never fault you for putting your health and personal safety above keeping our appointment," is what he says aloud, though, because that is the most sensible reply.
That bright yellow tail fin flicks in the water and his friend reorients his body upright again, tucks a long tendril of wet hair behind his ear fin and fiddles briefly with the lowest spine of it. "'Course not, but then I wouldn't get to see you until next time. And. And I wouldn't want you to be worried because I didn't come."
"I appreciate that," Dream says, unable to lie about not worrying when he had been fretting incessantly the full hour his friend had been absent. "And I am. Glad, that you were not hurt more seriously." He frowns slightly. "Was that your only injury?"
His friend looks thoughtful, taking mental stock of his body, Dream supposes. A frown mars the merman's forehead and he twists a bit, peering behind. He drops beneath the surface and makes an elegant wriggling loop in the water, flaring his dorsal fin.
"Ah, sharksacs," he mutters, head popping out of the water again. "Tore my backfin, too. That'll be a pain."
Dream can see it, now, the sunny yellow membrane split where it oughtn't be, extending about halfway from the top edge down toward his friend's body, just above where skin turns to scales.
"Does it hurt?"
"A bit, now that I'm aware of it. I would have noticed eventually. It's not bad, but the real trick is to keep it from splitting further while it heals—when it gets down to skin that's when it really hurts."
"Will a kelp bandage not work?"
"Too heavy on the fins—needs to be more flexible, lighter."
"And if you shift into your legs, what happens to the wounds?"
"This one will still be there," he says, gesturing to the bandage they've just applied. "The fin tear will be…it's weird, when I change, my fins disappear but I can still feel them?"
"Phantom fins?" Dream interjects, fascinated, and his friend nods agreement.
"That's a good way to describe it, yes. So I still feel them—but no, they won't be magically healed when I change back."
"Hm." Dream is combing through his mental index of human first aid techniques; surely there must be something he can offer? He's got dissolving sutures courtesy of his sister; he could offer to sew the tear together? Then again, it seems inadvisable to poke several more holes in the delicate membrane with the aim of closing the original wound; he has sudden visions of an entire chunk of sutured fin tearing loose at the stitches. No. But perhaps—
"I might have a solution," he says, leaning to grab his waterproof bag before dropping into the sea next to his friend. "Wait here? I need to retrieve the first aid kit from my boat." And barely waiting for an answer, he strikes out, back to where he's anchored close by. It's quick work to find the first aid kit among his supplies and zip it into his bag, and then he's swimming back round the big rock formation in the bay to their cave.
"You swim fast, for a human," his friend says upon his return, with the same cheeky grin that accompanies those words every time he says them, and Dream can't help his own little smile in return. He hoists himself back onto the cave floor with a bit more effort than it took earlier this morning, thanks to the retreating tide.
"The liquid in these pods," he begins, picking up one of the remaining kelp strings with several nodules still full along its stem. "It reacts with the protective layer on your skin to get sticky, right? Will it do the same on your fin?"
"Yeah, but like I said, the kelp is too heavy and not flexible enough for use on fins."
"I've got something," Dream announces, pulling out his kit and opening it up, "that we can stick across the split, to hold it together? It's meant to dissolve on its own, after four to six weeks in humans. We don't live in water, though, so it may be a lot quicker for you."
"The fin only needs three-four days to heal up, if it doesn't split more," the merman says, leaning up to peer into the kit. "What're you thinking?"
"If we spread the kelp juice along the tear, and set short lengths of the suture thread across it, do you think it would hold without tearing you further, or causing irritation, or any other complications?"
"I don't know for certain, but it's a smart idea, I think—I've seen a healer do something similar with different stuff when a buddy of mine got a fin tear really bad once, yeah. Let's try it."
The water level is perfect, lapping barely above the height of the floor now; Dream is still seated on the edge and his friend is floating sideways in the water again, back turned to Dream with his dorsal fin flared just below the surface. He's gathered his hair out of the way, up over his shoulder, and Dream is shameless in his appreciation for the sculpted skin and muscle inadvertently on display. His friend is built lean and sleek, beautifully toned from a lifetime of swimming; the way the fin rises so prettily from his spine, fans out between its rays in a delicate spray of color against the warm hue of his skin—
"Can you reach it like this?" His friend is glancing back over his shoulder at him.
Dream blinks, feels himself flushing just a little and shifts his focus, sets to work. "Yes." The tear is very much in evidence and Dream bursts one of the seaweed pods, spreads the liquid carefully along the torn edges. He's got several short lengths of the suture thread cut and ready; he gently holds the fin together beneath the water with one hand and starts sticking the threads along the injury, perpendicular to the split.
"Thank you, for trusting me to help," Dream says as he works, because he is not blind to it.
His friend makes a sound that conveys exactly the little smile that's on his face, even if Dream can't see it from behind him. "Thank you for helping," he replies. "Still can't believe I got tangled in the nets. It's embarrassing, a spawning mistake; I know better."
"Everyone has their moments of distraction," Dream offers. "I'm glad you weren't hurt worse." He lays the last suture along the top edge of the fin, and marvels at how well it adheres. "All done. Do you want me to braid your hair, to keep it from getting stuck in the glue?"
"Oh, good idea." His friend rolls and loops beneath the surface, coming upright in the water again with a grimace, one hand pressing briefly at the kelp bandage on his flank and the other still holding his hair forward over his shoulder. "I'll have to let it down again once the goo's set, hide your work so I don't get questions about it, but that would be really smart until then."
That…had not occurred to Dream. "It's not going to get you in trouble, is it? I did not think, I apologize—"
"It'll be fine," the merman assures him, lifting and presenting his gathered hair. "If your thread works like we think it will, I can introduce it to the healer and it'll be one more way we can benefit from the world Above. I just can't go revealing that I let a human see me in my true form—I certainly couldn't have patched up that fin by myself after all—or I'll cause a panic."
"I should have asked first—"
"You did ask," his friend cuts in, and waggles the mass of wet hair at him. "Braid?"
"Of course, yes." Dream resolves to be more mindful of this sort of discretion going forward and sets to work.
It's wonderful to be able to touch all that hair, as he's wished to for ages, to run his fingers through the length of it as he weaves a loose braid over his friend's shoulder, keeping it clear of the sticky injured fin behind. It is also thrilling, to have his hands so close to the pretty face that features so often in his dreams; he is both relieved and disappointed as the braid progresses. His friend is watching him as he works, dark eyes flitting between his face and his hands, comfortably silent, and Dream feels wonderfully, contentedly warm in his quiet attraction as he weaves the braid. It doesn't take long, and then he coils it atop his friend's head and secures it with a pair of takeaway chopsticks from his first aid kit (he'd had the idea that they might be good makeshift splints but hair sticks is probably a better use for them).
"Perfect, thanks," his friend says once he's finished; he moves his head back and forth, feeling out the balance and weight difference of all that wet hair piled atop his skull.
"Did you find what you were searching for, out past the reef?" Dream asks, watching him; he tries not to stare overmuch, but between the loose updo and the fully-exposed ear fins and his friend's naturally beautiful face, he's finding it difficult.
"I did," the merman says, eyes taking on a look of hopeful trepidation that piques Dream's curiosity. "It's in my bag there, if you want to grab it for me."
Dream pulls the bag over; his friend takes it, rummages through it. "Here you go," he says, and holds out a small shell. "I found it for you."
"For me?" Dream takes it, turns it round in his fingers, marveling. It's nothing he can readily identify but not unlike a cowrie shell, a smooth glossy grey shot through with veins of pearly blue and purple color that glow in the sunlight. "It's beautiful."
"I wanted you to have one," his friend says, toying with the lowest spine of one ear fin. "They're a bit on the uncommon side, can only be found in limited areas at certain times of year when the young molt their shells and grow their adult skins. So they're something of a good luck charm, to us. Thought it might not hurt, having something from the ocean meant to keep you safe while you're doing your research in it."
"That's very thoughtful," Dream says, absurdly touched. "Thank you—I will carry it with me every time I dive."
"Well, good. That's good then," his friend says, and Dream can't be sure but it almost looks like the edges of his yellow fins are blushing toward orange, down in the shadows of the water.
"Perhaps you might have benefited from such a shell of your own, to help you avoid the nets altogether," Dream says then, daring enough to tease, and the merman grins, bright as the sun.
"The way I see it, it was good luck to get free in short order with minimal injury. So it's been tested under real-life conditions—had to confirm it was viable before giving it to you, didn't I?"
"Of course," Dream smiles, smitten by the easy optimism his friend always seems to have at hand. "And again. I thank you." He tucks the shell into the inner zip pocket of his swim trunks, where it will stay secure.
The merman dips in the water, turns a happy back loop and resurfaces, face tipped up; the work Dream did on his hair holds true. "Thank you for your help patching me up," he says. "Much easier getting home without an open wound giving me problems. Don't think I'll be hopping up there to join you, though; best if it stays in the water."
"Of course," Dream answers, not surprised nor even really disappointed. He enjoys sitting close beside his friend and sharing human food, yes, but there is also great pleasure in watching him in his natural element, the muted gleam of the sun on his scales through the water, the way his fins drift and sway in micro currents, the natural fluid ease in every movement.
Beautiful.
"So, what human delicacy have you brought me today?" his friend says then, and Dream purposefully redirects his thoughts.
"A highly divisive specimen, to be sure," he begins, pulling his waterproof tote close and rummaging in it. "Many humans love this food but many hate it, as well."
"And which side do you fall on?"
Dream gives him a small smile. "I have my favorite flavors." He withdraws a rectangular mylar packet and holds it up triumphantly. "Today, I bring you pop tarts." ~
Later, back at the house his team is staying at, once he's bid a good night to Matthew and Jessamy and retired to his room, Dream takes the shell out. It's still beautiful by electric light, and the sentiment behind it fills him with a soft warmth. His friend, his beautiful sea-stranger, has given him a thoughtful gift. More than that, he had gone to effort for it, had encountered danger; Dream recalls the way he had said he was distracted, to be caught in the fishing nets, and his heart fills with an odd blend of guilt and delight at the idea that his friend may have been so distracted on account of him, of bringing him this gift.
And he wonders, with the faintest ember of something like hope, if perhaps the deep regard he has for his sea-stranger might not be one-sided after all.

Notes on this AU:
There are a handful of possible reasons Hob hasn't given Dream his name yet; I haven't settled on which makes the most sense. (The Doylist reason is obviously just flipping the canon dynamic between them)
Dream Jessamy and Matthew are a team doing nebulous marine-biological Research™ (under direction/funding from Lucienne at the university back home) in a nebulously-coastal-Australian locale (because of the fish Hob is based on). I have put more effort into developing Hob's mer-culture than trying to make him 'sound' local; my apologies to the Australians in the audience
Hob's mer-form is springboarded from the leopard coral trout (see pic below) His tail is the vibrant orange with the blue spots; they can have phosphorescence when he's swimming in shadows if he needs/wants them to. His fins are all bright sunny yellow (and much longer, flowier) and he does have a dorsal fin running from between the lower edges of his human shoulder blades to just past his fish 'butt'; the fin can be collapsed close to his body and the rays are flexible also so sitting human-style is not an issue
He can change colors along the edges of his fins; this is a mating behavior and indicator of interest
Dream is unaware of these facts
Hob is still hairy, thanks to Selkie blood in his family tree (which also grants him greater ease in shifting to human form than other merfolk)
The cave they regularly meet in is in a rock formation in White Horse Bay (not a real place afaik) and the opening faces away from shore, affording privacy (the bay is not a popular beach spot anyway). It also faces east for optimal sunrise viewing. Tidal range averages around three meters. At highest tide the cave floor is a foot or two underwater; at lowest tide Dream could still safely dive out if needed (but wouldn't be able to climb back in until the tide comes in again). Dream takes a small boat intended for the team's use in their research and anchors it in the bay nearby and swims over to the cave
Hob has wandered transformed among humans for short periods, mostly to secure goods useful to his community, but learning little bits of human culture is a nice bonus. He's never really tried their food, though, so that is one of the primary things that Dream will bring him

Warning: mention of blood, violence (physical and psychological), mention of viruses, parasites, zombies; kidnapping; the reader has a slight anemia; Fem/reader; established relationship with Leon.
Synopsis: You could have a quiet wedding and a good life with the person you love most in the world. Leon was ready to protect you to the death from his enemies and viruses but… it seems that someone is also interested in you. And the price for life will be very high.
A/N: The idea from this post that I wrote about quite a long time ago. "Together forever" I'm not very good at writing (apparently the Yandere theme is not mine, no matter how much I like it). So I'm going to try this plot. I don't know how many parts there will be, but if everything goes well, then probably a lot (maybe 10-12 or so). I hope someone likes it because I have serious notes on this work in my notebook, as if these are sketches for the 9th part of the resident).
Tags will be added to the following parts. I was very much inspired by the remaster and Haunting ground when I was taking notes. After all, both games were made by Capcom.
Feedback is welcome (but no insults!)
Sometimes the worst horror happens in the name of love. It's not the worst plot for books, films or paintings that are more than a hundred years old and it's impossible not to admit that sometimes we want to be loved until our death.
And maybe after it.
The words sound soft, with a slight taste of regret, as if somewhere between the letters there is a treacherous "I'm sorry". But in fact it was so predictable. Leon hugs you too tightly, experiencing an inexhaustible sense of guilt, because he promised to decide together where you will spend your honeymoon, which is unlikely to last exactly a month, he promised to watch a movie with you that you have been planning for a long time and… and everything went to hell.
Leon nuzzles your cheek and devoutly kisses you gently, leaving a wet trail with his eyes closed. Another sign of his eternal love, his lips are imprinted on the bridge of your nose, making you smile from the slight tickle caused by his stubble. He had no power over not being called to work for at least another week, but the government is not interested in the personal life of his best agent. And yet you enjoy the way he puts his arm around your waist, holding you as tightly as he can.
"Okay, Mr. Kennedy," you joke kindly, inhaling the almost faded scent of his cologne. "I forgive you, once again. Run to save the world" You smile looking into his crystal blue eyes filled with sadness and longing.
"I promise that I will ask the authorities for a good vacation," Leon swears very sensually, continuing to hold you tightly in his hands and look with those puppy eyes from which the soul is torn apart and kisses again this time on the forehead, "If necessary, I will harness Ingrit and no one will bother us. We'll plan everything the way you want, even if it's a tour of all the castles in Europe"
You laugh sincerely, removing the bangs from his face, hoping to stretch the moment of intimacy with him longer. It was so warm and safe next to him that you snuggled up to his chest and he gently cradled you in his arms like a child.
"Don't do anything stupid in my absence"
"I still need to do an exhibition and maybe I'll finally clean up the bookcase," you lie knowing full well that the books will still lie randomly on the shelves and you won't even touch them. Actually, your work was the only thing that could save you from the all-consuming longing for Leon.
"Be careful, okay?" with some hidden fear, he asks, reluctantly releasing you from the ring of embraces. "I'll call as soon as I get a free minute and I'll really be back soon"
Leon is already out on the street and you follow him with a sad look, noticing some dark car to the side. Rightly deciding that they came for him, you lower your head, sighing heavily and literally taken aback when Leon's lips abruptly cover yours with a demanding and somewhat rude kiss that you forget how to breathe. At some point you try to seize the initiative, but strong hands push you against the wall and you hit the back of your head a little painfully, allowing him to dominate. As always.
"I would eat you right here," Leon said sarcastically and quietly stroking your hips, "But I really have to go."
And you silently bite your lower lip while watching him move away from you and get on his bike.
Well, that cool car wasn't for him, but this thought quickly leaves your head and in the end, tired of standing on the street, you just go back into the house, closing the door, grabbing the phone and immediately sending him an impatient "I miss you already." However, this does not prevent you from also ordering food with home delivery and watching some movie to pass the evening that was hopelessly spoiled.
The evening really became disgusting, neither delicious food saved him, nor a good movie will save him.
"Complete shit" a quiet curse came off your lips when you looked at the phone screen for the hundredth time in the evening and endlessly reread Leon's last message "My love…" which seems to have been imbued with such despair that tears came to your eyes. He was like a big kid who couldn't live a day without you and besides, only with you his sleep was like a more or less healthy one. You were his only light and he wanted that light to stay with him forever. Well, you could send him a hundred more messages, but it's unlikely that he will have the opportunity to read them in the next few hours or even days. So with bitterness, you just turned off the TV and went to the bathroom to get ready for an earlier than usual sleep.
Hot water pleasantly calmed and warmed the skin flowing down the body. You spent 15 minutes in the shower, brushing your teeth and doing all the usual and favorite cosmetic procedures, smeared your body with a lotion with a pleasant floral scent, waiting for it to soak into pale skin. The mood even improved a little when you changed into pajamas and straightened the bed once more before putting your head on the pillow and looking at the phone.
Nothing.
There's no point blaming Leon or doubting his love. It wasn't up to him. Sometimes he was dragged out of bed late at night and you could not see him for weeks without even being able to talk on the phone for one minute. But when he returned, he turned into a puppy clinging to his beloved owner and covered your body with a lot of kisses, not letting you get out of bed. Not that you mind… You always miss him and worry about him.
Sighing, you turn over on your side, putting the phone on the bedside table and not seeing the desired message from your fiance. Therefore, grabbing Leon's pillow, the lungs are filled with his smell and instead of feeling his presence, you experience only a deep feeling tearing apart that makes your heart beat a little faster.
And closing your eyes, you reach for the switch, when suddenly for a second the phone quickly notifies you of a new message from the addressee next to whose name the heart turns red.
"Don't forget to take the pills that the doctor prescribed for you. I want this sickly pallor to disappear. Love you"
Well, smiling, you took a screenshot of the message for some reason, saving it in your gallery on your phone. After sending Leon the answer, you still remembered that you really forgot about those pills once again, but you didn't want to get up anymore, so you left this matter for the morning. Sighing once again, trying his luck in the hope that Leon would write something else, your mobile was treacherously silent while you were just flipping through the social media feed.networks thinking only about how dependent you are on this man. However, the same can be said about him. The phone went out, as did the light in the bedroom, and sleep slowly overtook your mind when you hugged else's pillow without hearing quiet footsteps in the next room. The uninvited guest, thanks to Leon, had to tinker a lot with the lock of the front door before he unlocked it, quietly closing it behind him so as not to attract your attention while you were in the shower. Merging with the surrounding darkness, it was necessary to wait for the right time and prepare the syringe so that everything went as it should and the target was quietly neutralized without attracting the attention of neighbors.
The order was well paid and the fact that Leon left the house on that day was only to his advantage. After all, a government agent can ruin everything and getting rid of him threatened big problems that were not needed by anyone, but who will remember about his pretty bride, about whom he will probably quickly forget everything himself? The unknown person only needed to stick a pomeranian, inject the substance and quietly take the target out of the house by throwing a fake note with a handwriting similar to yours that you and Leon do not see the future for yourself. Pick up a few personal items and throw them in the nearest trash as proof of the truthful departure of the unfaithful bride.
Not the worst plan, especially since Leon Kennedy will think about your disappearance and how natural it is, no one really cares. Even if he suspects this ill-conceived plan, by that time you will be too far away from here anyway.
The problem was solved by itself because you are a simple art worker did not pose any threat even if you tried to resist. One step, two… the blessed victim will not suspect anything until the very moment when someone else's hand in a black glove closes her mouth and sticks a needle into her body. You fall asleep without suspecting anything, somehow reflexively reaching to the left side where Leon usually sleeps with his back to the bedroom door.
You are separated by literally a few meters from each other before one inept movement spoils everything.
The sound of falling books that Leon has been asking you to arrange exactly for so long makes you open your eyes by squeezing the pillowcase of the pillow and the "guest" freeze without touching the door handle. However, you felt a gaze on you that did not let you be deceived that someone had entered the house.
In Leon's bedside table there is a 9mm pistol fully loaded. It's not that you were very accurate, but Leon took you to a place as entertainment, where you trained shooting at targets under the watchful eye.
"not the worst result for a beginner," he said condescendingly so as not to upset you, but it was fun even if the gun was real.
Except now there are no jokes! You heard another step towards your side and held your breath, gathering strength for a jerk to pull out the gun and remove it from the safety. From fear, the heart beat faster, causing the blood to roar in your ears and before the intruder's hand landed on your face, you abruptly rolled to the left side of the bed, throwing a pillow at the person standing over you, winning for yourself a couple of seconds from his confusion.
Jumping to your feet, you quickly grabbed the gun pointing it at the man with trembling hands, removing it from the safety.
"Your own life is more expensive," you thought when a man of impressive size in a mask stood a meter away from you without a weapon, because his goal is to deliver you alive because you will not be of any use dead.
You held his floor at gunpoint, but your hands were shaking from the unusual weight and you really wanted to lower them down, but you held on trying not to panic. A step towards you and you pulled the trigger without aiming so stupidly hitting the closet, startled by the loud noise of the shot, immediately shrinking and from unaccustomed frightened by the strong recoil of the weapon.
"Fuck," he swore loudly, immediately rushing to you, forcing you to scream at the top of your voice while miraculously dodging. Rushing to the door, the first thought was to run outside and ask for help from neighbors, especially since the sound of a gunshot and a woman's scream certainly did not go unnoticed and someone probably should have already called the police. We just need to hold out. However, you only managed to jump out into the corridor when suddenly a strong man's hand roughly grabbed you by the hand in which you were holding a gun and your finger pressed the hook again making a shot.
Again a loud noise, your screams and a small hole in the ceiling.
Again the bullet flew by.
"Get off me, you bastard!"
A ringing slap in the face and you abruptly fell to the floor dropping the gun somewhere to the side. He immediately hung over you, but grabbing the first book that came to hand, you threw it in her man's face and taking advantage of another hitch jumped to her feet, running on without thinking about how much lip hurts.
And yet, the chances of escape were initially small, especially when shortness of breath began due to anemia and the chest began to ache sharply. A deep breath did not help even if your body was filled with adrenaline, he still knocked you to the floor, pressing your whole body to the floor, taking that ill-fated syringe out of your pocket and sticking it into you by quickly pressing the plunger . It only takes a few minutes, but because of your screams and shots, even they could put the entire mission under the "failed" icon, so without wasting even these precious minutes, the kidnapper grabs you by the hair and just hits your head on the floor suppressing resistance at the root. The world before your eyes becomes hazy and barely audible when a strange and unusual feeling of lightness covers you despite the pain in your head.
"Bitch ruined everything"
This bastard threw you over his shoulder and quickly ran out of the house, leaving the syringe lying there on the floor because there was no more time. Throwing you carelessly like a sack into the backseat, he slammed the door and gave gas to get away from the crime scene as soon as possible and dump the tail by moving to another car. They'll pay him well anyway.
You only blurred vision being on the verge of consciousness silently watched your loss until a long sleep covered you.

I'm back with more PJO/Riordanverse headcanons! Some of these are also just ways I would have done things after seeing then in new perspectives. This'll probably be a long post so I'll put this all under the cut.
Imma start with the headcanons!
Malcolm and Jake were actually dating for a while but only told everyone after Nico and Will both came out.
Adding on to my Genderfluid Percy headcanon from before, Percabeth are both bi so Annabeth doesn't mind.
Mitchell came around during the Sea of Monsters quest and Lacy came at the same time as Drew due their mortal parents living in the same area since they go to the same school
Clovis has actually been at the camp nearly the same amount of time as Annabeth due to his sleep powers hindering his mortal mothers life, she left on the hill.
Thalia and Grover set up small hidden demigod camps for quests since it's common for monsters to destory your supplies. They are able to do this because they travel a lot.
Percy, and Annabeth often invite Will and Nico over so they can help eachother with eachothers Tartarus experiences.
Percy and Annabeth consider Nico a little brother and let him stay over at anypoint once they have their own home.
Every year Percy has three birthday parties. One at camp courtesy of his fellow campers, one at his home with his closest friends, and his family, and one with his cousins where they go out. Often the one from hosted by Sally and Paul is the only one actually on his birthday. The other two often happen the next day.
After Jason's death Leo and Piper decided to start meeting up at least once durung the school year, to check up on eachother. They are sometimes joined by others.
Percy knows how to cook, on the other hand Annabeth is not the best at cooking.
Clarisse and Percy spar together for fun when either of them need a break from everything else in life.
Clarisse often treats Will like a little brother because of how young he was when he became head medic and how many times he healed her despite her rude words at first.
Magnus and Annabeth have meetups almost every month, occasionally Percy and/or Alex will tag along. Annabeth and Percy have yet to tell Camp.
Percy and Annabeth also often meet up with Carter and Sadie for food. They like to check up on the younger kids. Percaveth had yet to tell Camp about these two as well.
When Sally and Paul want a date amnight and Percy and Annabeth aren't available the rest of the seven or Nico and Will are open to babysitting Estelle so the two can still go out. Everyone loves Estelle.
Now for the changed storylines.
I would have had Percy and Annabth stand up for Nico more during the deabte to go save him from the jar as they have know him since he was ten and it just makes sense.
Caleo but platonic. I've seen many points made by others where it shows Caleo isn't the best and honestly it is a bit strange to resolve Leo's arc by giving him a romantic relationship with an immortal much older than him. So instead of having them date, I'd have them bond over them both having bad luck with relationships and give them a sibling relationship.
I would have Drew be mentioned much earlier, give her a big relationship with Silena. She's always with her sister, looking up to her. She was always kinda of a mean girl but she masks her sorrow about Silena with more hate.
Talk about Jason's missing memories more. He never fully got his back, have him ask Reyna about his life, and Thalia about their mother.
I would make Ares just... Less the way Rick made him. He respects girls in his myths, he supports the Amazons. Yet he abuses his daughter? Have him be a supportive father that just hates other demigods cause they think of him as mindless war disrespect his children.
Similarly I would change Hera. Yes, it makes sense for her to dislike Thalia and maybe other big three children because of the myths. But not any other demigods. She, along with being the goddess of marriage and childbirth, is also the goddess of family and women. So many demigods have horrible families, let her support them discreetly by allowing her cabin to be the cabin for unclaimed campers, or perhaps by leading young demigods to Artemis so she can help them get to camp.
More seafam shit. Percy and Triton bonding, Percy meeting his other godly siblings other than Kym, Amphitrite getting to know Percy and acting like a stepmother, etc, etc. I need more of this.
That's all I have for now! I may post an au ideas post soon. I have many aus, some inspired by fics and some are completely made up of my own dumb thoughts.
