Honestly, I'm just putting this here because I love this scene.

5x04 - The End

Cas received the order to follow Dean's commands once, and he sticked to it up 'til the end of everything.

7x17 - Born again identity

Just remember, this was after everything that happened in season 6 and widow!dean arc 1.0

Forward to Cas' speech in 15x18, yes the parallels.

Swear this is a whole Dean thesis. If we go back to what started this whole thing in tmwwbk. Dean tells Cas, we can fix this. And he never stopped wanting to fix it.

8x17 - Goodby Stranger

Like, I know they established that it didn't make sense for Dean to say I love you here, which fair, and we ended up which I need you (somehow worse).

But if we look at this as a whole, what Dean might understand is that saying I love you makes people leave him. Fastforward to the part when Dean takes the sigils so Cas can find him and Naomi visits and tells him that Cas doesn't return his feelings. Fastforward again to the You didn't trust me because even if we get to know that it was hard for Cas to leave with the tablet, away from Dean, Dean doesn't. For Dean, he left him, without even acknowledging that he loves/needs him, ignored him, and didn't trust him. Imagine you say I love you and you are left feeling abandoned, betrayed, and angry.

8x19 - Taxi Driver

This in the middle of I love you, and You didn't trust me is something

8x22 - Clip show

10x23 - Brother's Keeper

You'll see the word shattered used a lot. This very much both destiel and drowley imo.

Season 12 is weirdly filled with these, so here are special mentions (because the max of pictures is 30 and there are too many moments). Most likely, it has to do with the market research by the end of 2016, which is why from 12-15, these scenes are more emotionally charged.

Mary saying Good friend when Dean and Cas hug in 12x01

Cas told Mary I promised (Dean) when they were talking outside the barn before going in to help Dean save Sam in 12x02

Dean telling Mary Get him outta here! when Cas was wounded in 12x12. And of course, when Cas says the things they have shared changed him (but that's on screen)

Cas texts? from 12x16

Dean is a worried husband on 12x18.

Dean explaining that no matter how much Cas messed up, did the wrong thing, or every dumb move he got it in 12x20. Cas was always Cas.

12x10 - Lily Sunder has some regrets

Dean telling Cas he has changed, and it has all been for the good. Again, forward to 15x18.

12x19 - The Future

This whole episode is charged with scenes from Dean and Cas. Like you have the angry Welcome home from Dean when Cas returns from Heaven. Dean calls Cas a super strong dude in a trenchcoat. The mixtape scene with the That was a gift. To keep. And Dean softening a bit even if he's angry because he's more worried.

But I think the biggest one is this one. The destiel sex scene (jk)

And after this, even though it is said in the show. There is more insistence from Dean to not let go of Cas -> We're not gonna let you just walk away. Not again. Not happening.

12x23 - All Along the Watchtower

The word shattered is mentioned a lot in the scripts. This is every part that describes Dean's reactions after losing Cas. Forward to 15x18.

13x06 - Tombstone

This is one of the best things that never happened in the show. You have Dean choking down his emotions saying he's much better now and Cas who fought with the empty with everything he had in 13x04 to return to Dean, coming to a meadow near a windmill because Dean thought he'd like it.

13x14 - Good Intentions

Forget about the in love part. They are best friends, and we didn´t get this.

13x20 - Unfinished Business

He lost Cas and it damn near broke him. Not we lost Cas, I.

14x12 - Prophet and Loss

Losing Dean was unacceptable. Cas said that losing Dean was unacceptable. And Dean got emotional. And then forward to 15x18, Cas just goes no, Dean can't die because that'd be unacceptable to me, so i'll sacrifice. And then, Dean gets emotional. Again. But for Dean, the unacceptable happened.

15x09 - The Trap

Forward to 15x20. In this future that Chuck showed Sam that he lost Dean the second Cas was gone.

Have I said how much they used the word shattered. Anyway, Dean wanted Cas to stay. That's his best friend.

He's amazing.

15x18 - Despair

This is not that different from what it was filmed, it is just that seeing it described makes it different. Especially when you get things as Still beautiful, still Dean Winchester, Dean is emotional, stunned, shocked. And have I said how much they used the word shattered. Also, you can see how it starts as a confession because Cas is confessing that he made a deal, but then it ends as a declaration, a declaration of love. Which makes testament such a good word for it.

15x19 - Inherit the Earth

The fact that Dean couldn't say Cas was gone

He's not the ultimate killer. He's not daddy's blunt instrument. He's someone who raised his little brother for love, who fought for the world for love and the most caring man on Earth

15x20 - Carry On

We don't talk about this episode because the script has way too many [omitted] but this is exactly what happened in 15x09 when Chuck showed their future to Sam if they followed the road they were taking.

Okay, that was it. Probably missed some, but for me, these are the parts that stand out.

The event will run from July 14th to July 20th, and there will be two different prompts each day that creators can fulfill with: fanfic, fanart, gifsets, graphics, fanvids, headcanons, crafts, playlists, rec lists. You’re encouraged to tag your posts with #hanleiaweek2024 so we can reblog them! After the week is over, we’ll share a masterlist with links to the works.

You can show your appreciation in many ways; however, please keep in mind that it has to be a creation of yours of some sort, e.g. don’t repost other people’s fanart, gifs, or unedited pictures. Rec lists should include a link to the original source both for fanfic and fanart (more on this after the cut).

💕 Can I post my work to another site and share the link on Tumblr?

Yes! This is a good option for people who might want to create explicit art that could be taken down on Tumblr, write a long fic or multichapter, or make videos or playlists.

💕 Does it have to be a new creation? Can I finish and post a WIP?

It has to be something that has never been posted anywhere else before, so finishing and sharing a WIP is okay! If it doesn’t fit any of the prompts, you can share it on Free Day.

💕 Is this event open to all ratings?

Yes! Just remember to use a “Read more” cut if you’re posting the whole work on Tumblr, and to add a note at the top if your work is rated Mature or Explicit, as well as if it has any major trigger warnings, so all folks can safely browse through the entries.

💕 Are there any length or quality requirements?

There’s no min. or max. length for fanfic or quality level for art, but please note that AI-generated works won’t be accepted. For gifsets, there’s a minimum of two gifs (that must be made by you!). For playlists, there’s a minimum of five songs. For rec lists of fic or fanart, there’s also a minimum of five recs. Some more questions you might have about rec lists:

BAHRAIN 2023

the youngest mclaren driver stood off to the side, nervous for his first ever formula one grand prix. his teammate seemed less nervous, but still nervous to a certain degree. oscar truly didn't want to fuck this up, not after everything that happened in the last 6 months for him. he noticed a brunette girl staring at him from across the pitlane, she gave him a small wave before turning to go back inside the redbull garage.

the younger brunette turned to look at the slightly older one, "who was that?"

the older one turned to look at him, “you don’t stand a chance. she's checo's niece, very overprotective that man is. not excluding you know, max and daniel. take it from me, i've tried.” 

“i asked who she was not if you tried to get her number.” 

“oh, i have her number, but i have a girlfriend, you pastry. matter of fact," lando said, "you have her number too."

“it’s piastri! you know this!” oscar shouted as lando skipped, literally skipped, away from him. oscar rolled his eyes at the older drivers actions before turning to go back inside the mclaren garage.

the brunette girl stood outside the redbull garage again, with daniel ricciardo at her side. she turned to look at the empty spot oscar had once been in, then back at daniel, “can't believe i still think he's cute. he's the enemy.” 

daniel laughed, "he's not the enemy isa. you're allowed to have a crush on someone." 

isabella rolled her eyes, running a hand through her hair, “i hope him the best at shit-claren.” 

“isa!” 

the girl laughed, “it’s true!”

isabella had been so focused on her phone and texting back the others that she didn’t notice the person coming at her. she crashed into the person and her phone fell to the floor, landing with a loud crack. at least the crack sounded loud to her, but not louder than the ‘mierda’ she let out. she bent down to pick up her phone and so did the person she had bumped into, both reached for her phone, bumping heads.

“fuck,” isabella softly whispered, “you have a hard head,” she told the other person as she rubbed her head.

the person laughed, “guess that’s a good thing for an f1 driver.”

isabella’s eyes slightly widened when she realized who she had bumped into. she would recognize an australian accent anywhere, she had grown up near daniel ricciardo. oscar piastri was too busy inspecting her phone for any cracks to notice the expression she had made. he handed her the phone as both stood to their full heights, he was noticeably taller than her.

"no cracks," oscar told her as he handed back her phone. she smiled politely at him, "thanks."

"and your friends are blowing up your phone. i think you had like 10 messages come in while i was checking to see if it had any cracks. not that i read them-"

isabella waved him off, "it's just max and danny, they were arguing about who had the horniest songs written about them."

oscar laughed, "i'm oscar piastri."

"i know, i'm isabella perez" she replied, "i saw your alpine tweet, plus arthur talks about you a lot."

"i know," oscar replied, "arthur leclerc? you two know each other?" he questioned as they began walking together. isabella didn't know where he had originally been heading but now the two were walking back to their hotels.

"he's dating my sister, dulce? you might know her."

"oh, you're isa. i always wondered why they called you isa and not bella."

"because i will stab anyone who calls me bella," isabella emptily threatened. too enthralled on her phone she failed to notice the small smile on oscar's face.

"okay, bella."

isabella quickly looked up, glaring at him, "i'm glad you dnf'd."

"ouch," oscar dramatically muttered, "you wound me bella."

the two were interrupted by a voice shouting for oscar. they turned around and were met with the sight of alex albon and logan sargeant, both williams drivers also walking back to their hotel.

"alabono!" isabella shouted, rushing to hug the bleached-blonde. the taller driver opened his arms and accepted the hug, "hi, isa. did you have a good day?"

"no, charles dnf'd, so the ferrari in me is crying. however, the redbull in me is screaming for joy."

before alex could reply a ding interrupted him and caused isabella to look down at her phone. her eyes widened, and she handed her phone over to alex, "can you give this to max or danny later? i'm catching a flight on air-max later tomorrow."

alex nodded, "see you in glendale. or sooner."

"bye alex, bye logan, bye piastri!" isabella shouted as she ran off. logan looked confused between isabella's phone and alex, "why'd she give you her phone?"

the phone dinged again and alex sighed as he switched the phone to silent, "it's quite the story, one that either isa or dulce should tell you, not me."

"okay," logan said, he turned to oscar, "why'd she call you piastri?"

"oh, i called her bella," oscar replied, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. alex's eyes widned and logan knew their was a story there but he didn't pry. he wasn't close to any of the other drivers besides oscar, so he wasn't going to ask. he could be nosy sometimes but even he knew his limits. alex didn't want to talk about isabella's phone so maybe the phone had something to do with calling her bella.

"surprised you're still standing," alex said, "last time someone called her bella she kicked him in the nuts, and they had just met. he stopped calling her bella after that."

the two rookies exchanged looks as alex pocketed isabella's phone and pulled out his own phone and began to type furiously on it. logan's phone dinged moment's later but he ignored it, not wanting to make oscar suspicious. however, when his phone kept dinging oscar turned to him curiously and logan waved him off, silencing his phone.

"just friends from home, they were planing a party," logan quickly lied. oscar shrugged him off and logan was quick to divert the conversation to a random topic.

alex albon OSCAR CALLED HER BELLA AND HE'S STILL STANDING. NO BALLS WERE KICKED!!!!

i can confidently say, in my 6+ years of being a klance stan, i have never seen anything like this before or since. this fic is AMAZING. completely new idea, hilarious, sweet, and totally untouchable. i’ve always love testing fics that are done right (bc theyre always funny), and does this one ever knock it out of the park! the dynamics are amazing and the rivalry is EXQUISITE. bonus of vietnamese keith and filipino lance, and this one line (it’s a spoiler so im not going to put it here) that actually knocked me out of the water. its about the CHOICE.

Welcome back to sunny Abu Dhabi, as we prepare for the final race of the season!! This weekend brings us the most heated battle for the Drivers Championship we’ve ever seen!! Yes that includes Lewis versus Max 2021, the Mercedes battle of 2016 & Sebastian Vettels maiden win in 2010. Ferrari have the Consrtuctors trophy, will they clinch the Drivers too? Lets have a look at the possibilities

Y/n L/n currently sits first in the points, with Max trailing by only one. Charles Leclerc only sits only 5 points behind him. It will come down to whoever takes the win for this race. Three potential champions, one race. Will it be a third championship for Verstappen, a second for Leclerc or a first for L/n?

Honestly, I’m trying not to think about that. It’s just a normal race. I dont want to psych myself out since anything can happen once we get on that track. Of course I’d love to win, but who knows. Charles & I have been able to bring that constrictors back to Ferrari which was incredible, and whoever wins will have absolutely deserved it.

Thats a great way to look at it! I’m rooting for you but we’ll see what happens. Now, onto something more important. You had an interesting weekend in Las Vegas, didn’t you?

Yeah, you know the race was a lot of fun and it was great to win, especially given the issues we had the week before

Haha, yeah, so I got married which was a special experience.

Can I ask if you’d planned that going into the weekend?

Oh not at all! It was more a timing thing. So Saturday night Jack, my husband which is still weird to say, asked if I’d want to get married while we were there. He played a game in Vegas which is why he was there at all. Of course I wanted to marry him, but I didnt want to do it without some of our closest friends there. Luckily, most of them who play hockey were either in Vegas because they’re on his team or they were within a 2 hour flight range so we could get them there for Sunday night. And of course I was able to get the guys from the grid there no problem. So we just decided to go for it!

So no parents?

No, unfortunately not. Both of our parents live on the east coast and it was too quick to get them there, but we’re going to do a big party over the summer so they can celebrate with us.

At least they’ll have that!! Can I ask what the planning was like?

Jack took on all of the decisions which was really great of him since I had the race that evening, but Sunday morning we texted everyone with flight info & told them to get there asap. Then my best friend Thomas went & picked a dress for me, since Jack wasn’t allowed. I sent a message to our groupchat after the race with the chapel address once jack found somewhere & told the drivers to be there and look decent. It was a really great night though & I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately not, hockey season is well underway, but I’m on the first flight to New York that I can get & we’ll have the winter break together.

Over the radio you hear the team celebrating but you have no words. It doesn’t feel real. There’s tears streaming down your face. All the shit you put up with, all the years of hard work, missing your friends and family, it’s all lead up to this.

“Y/n?” You can hear your engineer ask since you haven’t responded, but nothing comes out. Driving towards the end, you do your donuts and pull in to your designated spot. You just sit there for a second before “HOLY FUCK” and someone on the other end laughs.

You’re still crying but its all happy tears as you pull yourself up & step onto the front of the car. You sit down on the Halo & put your head in your hands, trying to collect yourself as the crowd goes mad around you. Pulling off your helmet you look over to your team at the barriers & smile. You want to run over & celebrate with them, but you can’t bring yourself to move, afraid its all a dream. Then you get tackled. You’ve completely missed the other guys pulling up, too in your own head and you jump when Charles grabs you and pulls you off your car. He pulls you into a hug & whispers congratulations in your ear before someone else grabs you & you see Mick.

“You fucking did it!” He yells and you laugh. It was the kick in the ass you needed and you release Mick to go over to your team, hugging your engineer first. After that it’s a blur, until someone passes you a phone.

“McQueen!!!” Thomas is on the one end of the FaceTime, jack also popping up on the screen. You laugh at the nickname, glad to see their faces.

“I’m so proud of you!” Jack says “Me too!!” Thomas yells, wanting to be part of the conversation. “Thanks Thom!” “I love you so much babe! I can’t really hear you so I’ll call you later?” “Go celebrate, I’ll see you soon. Je t’aime mon amour” You blow a kiss before handing back the phone. There’s one more person you need to see. You spot Susie and you rush over to her. She’s been a mentor and inspiration to you since you were a kid and without her who knows where you’d be right now.

The rest of the day passes in a blur. You’re pulled into interview after interview, congratulations coming from all around and your phone buzzing like its possessed. You call your parents & Jack but thats it, grateful for all the love but too overwhelmed to deal with responding to all your messages. That night you and the boys go full send. You know its a good night since you can’t remember anything. Monday is filled with media, and then you hop on a flight straight to Newark.

Fourteen hours later, Jack & Luke are waiting from you when you finally make it through customs.

You’d think you’re racing or an Olympic gold to win the 100m with how fast you fly over to Jack & jump into his arms, tears streaming down your face as you hug him like a koala.

“Tu l’as fait” he whispers in your ear as you squeeze each other, your face buried in his neck. You can hear the emotion in his voice

How is your writer's block, I hope writing is easier now. Just wanted to say I was rereading a few of your works and have to say to say I love how different fem Charles and fem Oscar are from one another but both personalities make so much sense.

This is how I see them

Fem Oscar is reserved, single-minded, polite, silently ruthless. She could care less about what people think of her as all she thinks about is having the number 1.

Fem Charles in that comparison is much more calculated (not that Oscar can't be, it's just she does not have time for it in midst of crushing or dreaming about crushing the dreams of men), she uses people's love for her as another weapon, she is a planner (just like ferrari she probably has plan a to z).

Also although you haven't written fem Max I see her as someone who still has the FAFO attitude. She doesn't mind getting into fights (Also I have this headcanon that fem Max is very tall for a girl, probably like 5'9- 5'10, she absolutely towers over the men on the grid and she specifically wear heels to be even more taller because it leaves the men even more disgruntled, she loves it). she is unapologetic, probably claps back viciously at the journalist, giving the pr team headaches. In a way she is a product of the situations she faced (I sort of imagine that the 2016 grid who was not welcoming of the 17 years old Max is probably even more hostile to fem Max, also the media does not like her because she is not the woman in motorsports they wanted (someone less vicious, who pushes the boundaries only to certain extent, good but not that good).

And this ended up being an essay on fem Max lol, I guess I got all my jumbled thoughts out, although I don't know what point I was trying to make. Uhh sorry about this word vomit, now I am going to word vomit on my college assignment on Aristotle.

my writer's block is... going. i started a new draft which will be the fic for a secret santa (and oh boy, both me and @starlightvelaris have signed up for that one so obviously we can't talk about it and it's fucking torture....) but i wasn't able to add anything to my previous drafts so honestly, i don't know :/

fem!oscar is just what you say. obsessed with winning, with being number one, not because it's winning but because it means that she is the best. she knows she's good, she knows she's one of the best, and no one can stop her from it.

fem!charles is a pr weapon. charles is already one, he knows how to play the game, how to charm people on and off camera, and as a woman that's even more important. charlie has spent her whole life building her image, hiding her ruthless side on track with a pretty smile and fooling people around her. it's her strategy, and it works, because she not only had a disadvantage when she was younger regarding money (which she was able to balance out thanks to connections) but also due to her gender.

and fem!max is just ruthless, brutally honest and doesn't hide it. she doesn't care that people hate her because their opinions don't influence her results, she has been raised as a winner and she is one. her father didn't want another daughter, he wanted a vicious racer and he raised one.

obviously, when she just joined the grid, they were really excluding her, thinking that 1. she won't stay long and is just a charity case and 2. is a woman. and sure, most drivers might now advocate for women in motorsport but max doesn't really play into the traditional image of a 'woman' so there would be at least one driver publicly shooting against her. not that she cares lmao

and the first years are definitely rough for rb pr, because max doesn't want to change and they can't force her to. when it becomes clear that she is here to stay, the hate just gets worse, actual reporters even going so far and asking insulting questions they would never dare to ask other (male) drivers. but, surprise surprise, the pandemic and the netflix documentation save her (and rb pr)

because in the end, fem!max is the definition of a gen z. zero fucks given, absolutely unapologetic and unafraid to call out bullshit. netflix tries to portray her as a villain but there are clips of max just fooling around and saying shit like "professional red bull driver? more like professional red bull drinker", showing that she has humor behind all that bite.

but still, actual media still tries to drag her through the mud, because they've been doing this for years now, but the internet? the internet loves her.

this is why i also believe that 2021 much more people would be on max's side, simply because her fanbase is much bigger and it would be generally a bigger thing. first female world champion and a world champion that just prevented from lewis hamilton to take the 8th one. dare i say iconic

2016 Austrian GP

Okay I know Baku was boring but buckle up because we have a lot to cover this time again.

Welcome to the Austrian GP! Lewis is back on pole! Very eventful quali session on a drying track. It leaves us with a mixed grid and grid penalties. OH MY GOD MAX IS WEARING LEDERHOSEN?!?! Oh Daniel as well. It's not as funny on Daniel. 

I don't know where to go from there. 

We see Lewis' qualifying lap. It's crazy because the car is very twitchy and he locks up several times but still manages to end up on top. He does well to catch it everytime. 

Okay let's review the grid. So Lewis on pole OVER ONE SECOND AHEAD damn, then it's Hulkenberg somehow, and Jenson??? Okay. Raikkonen in 4th, Ricciardo is 5th, Nico is 6th with a grid penalty, Valtteri is 7th, Max 8th, Seb 9th with a grid penalty and Massa is 10th. Also not that we really care but Palmer, Haryanto, and Nasr all start from the back because of grid penalties and then Kvyat is starting from the pitlane because of a chassis change. That's a lot of penalties. Interesting note on the RedBull front : Daniel hasn't been outqualified by Kvyat nor Max this year at this point. 

Lewis thinks the race is gonna be fun. Johnny asks if it's important for him to get the race win here for the championship given both Nico and Seb are starting from further back. He says every race win is important anyway, none is more important than the other, but it is a good opportunity today so he'll do his best. There's apparently been issues with the ultrasofts so he asks if he's concerned about this. He says no more than anyone else. 

Simon says the issues with the ultrasofts is graining / wear and tear. Apparently they can only get 4-5 laps out of them which is absolutely ridiculous. 

They've also had issues with the kerbs, someone got a suspension failure because of them so that's another hazard we hope won't cause too many issues this race. Ah it was Max who broke his suspension. There were 4 different incidents due to the kerbs and they involved 4 different teams though. So that's not good. Initially they thought some specific yellow kerbs around the track were the issue, but then Nico lost the car and crashed due to one of the regular red and white ones. Brundle and Anthony think it seems to be a cumulative thing rather than a one time impact that breaks the car, as in it depends how old the sensitive parts of the car are. However they also show a video of Kvyat going over the yellow kerbs. In slowmo we can see the car shaking erratically. As Brundle comments you can visibly tell the part that's on the kerb is shaking at a different frequency than the part that's not on it. Then the suspension breaks and the rear right is gone. Big crash. They talked about it with Alex Wurz, GPDA chairman but also track designer, who sits in the FIA safety commission. He says the red and white kerbs are 2.5cm high and the plain red ones 5.5. He says there's the same configuration in Barcelona, but over there they only drive over them for 0.3 seconds. He says the new kerbs in Austria were installed because it's a new FIA standard, and they should come to other tracks as well, but the issue they're facing is the cars stay on those kerbs much longer than in Barcelona and vibrate at a frequency that basically fatigues the carbon fibre which causes damage. No one could have foreseen it, he says. It's a FIA issue and it's not the fault of the organiser. They will learn from it. Ted says the drivers definitely learned that you can go over the red and white ones but not the red ones. Wurz says first of all you don't go on the yellow ones as seen with Verstappen's crash. Then it's correct, short term solution is crisis management aka don't go on the kerbs. Longer term he thinks asking the tracks to change back is not the way because it costs millions and it's up to the teams to come up with cars that can handle that vibration frequency. Uhhh. Okay. Weird take in my opinion. 

Time for the race. Formation lap. 

Apparently Wehrlein is in the wrong spot and will be getting a penalty. Oh no! He’s reversing on the grid?! Are you insane?! 

And they're racing!

Good start from Lewis, Hulkenberg is losing places, Seb is making moves. At the end of the first lap, it's Lewis, Jenson, Raikkonen, Hulkenberg, Nico, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Seb, Valtteri and Sainz. When we come back from the start replays, Max is ahead of Daniel. And Kvyat is out of the race. Raikkonen is closing on Jenson, and Seb is closing on Ricciardo. Nico overtakes Hulkenberg for P4. Verstappen overtakes Hulkenberg for P5. Seb overtook Daniel and overtakes Hulkenberg for P6. Raikkonen overtakes Jenson for P2. Lewis, ahead, sets the fastest lap. Nico overtakes Jenson for P3. Max attacks Jenson… And overtakes him for P4. Hulkenberg is pitting, as well as Alonso. Seb attacks Jenson who pits. 

Lap 10. Daniel is preying on Seb. Loads of pit stops. Order goes Lewis, Raikkonen +3.9, Nico +3.1, Max +0.3, Seb +2.3, Daniel +0.4, Wehrlein +7.4, Grosjean +1.0, Magnussen +1.4, and Palmer +0.8. But again, mind the fact that most of the midfield just pitted. Nico is in. It's weird that they're pitting him first… Daniel is told they'll be pitting soon and to push, which is also surprising because he's on the supersofts, not the ultrasofts. Nico is starting his way back up the field. Loads of quick action in the midfield. More pit stops. Daniel boxes. Nico sets the fastest lap, on the softs. Max pits. Wehrlein keeps reporting rain but he's the only one. We get a slowmo shot of Lewis tyres being shredded. Seriously. As in we see bits of rubber flying off the edges. Aha, there's drops on the helicopter cameras indeed. It's minimal though. Raikkonen, who's on the supersofts, is slowly but steadily gaining on Lewis since Nico pitted. They need to box Lewis but they're trying to make the ultrasofts last as long as possible. Nico is also coming fast. 

Lap 20. Lewis, Raikkonen +4.1, Seb +5.1, Nico +14.2, Max +10.5, Ricciardo +3, Grosjean +31.1, Nasr +6.8, Jenson +0.5, and Hulkenberg +1.1. Mind the fact that the top 3 hasn't pitted yet. I'm not seeing Merc’s vision with this because if a pit stop takes about 25 seconds, that puts Lewis between the 2 RedBulls pretty much. So behind Nico, notably. Except if they believe he can stay out long enough to 1-stop without being overtaken? Or that he can race his way back up? But overtaking cars on track is generally not your first choice of strategy. The car is not '23 RBR dominant enough to make it a safe gamble. Lewis pits! Oh it's not a perfect stop, 4.2. He's behind Nico on P4. I vastly overestimated how long the pit stops last on this track lol. Max is just half a second behind him as well. Ferrari pit Raikkonen. He's out behind Daniel, not good. OH NO! Minutes after we get images of Seb's (who's leading and still hasn't pitted) damaged tyres, one of them delaminates and he crashes! Ohhh and it's a miracle he didn't collect one of the cars coming up behind him. Ted says he heard the explosion. Safety car is out and loads of people dive into the pits. The good news is that he barely touched the barrier. The safety car is leading the cars through the pitlane so the marshals can clean the pit straight where the incident happened. 

And that's how they get to lap 30. Under safety car. Nico leading, Lewis behind him on fresher tyres. (Don't think about it too much.) Behind them it's Max, Daniel, Raikkonen (Ferrari really fumbled this time again), Valtteri, Nasr, Jenson, Grosjean and Magnussen. They're now letting lapped cars unlap themselves. Hulkenberg and Grosjean are under investigation for speeding in the pit lane. And they go again. Lewis was caught sleeping a little bit. Perez overtook two cars down the straight in a pretty impressive move. Magnussen gets a 5 second time penalty for defending with more than one change of direction earlier. Loads of overtaking in the midfield again. Nico sets the fastest lap. (All of a sudden I realise it's been either Lewis or Nico on the podium in the last three races. They haven't both ended in the top 3 since the Russian GP, and of course they crashed in Spain after that.) Nico sets another fastest lap. Hulkenberg and Grosjean also get penalties for speeding in the pitlane. 

At the end of lap 39, it's Lewis setting the fastest lap (my autocorrect went for "gayest lap" which should be a thing). Nico, Lewis +1.9, Max +6.3, Daniel +3, Raikkonen +2.6, Valtteri +6, Jenson +2, Nasr +0.9, Grosjean +0.3, and Massa +0.5 gets overtaken by Perez who immediately loses the place. Ricciardo is warned of possible rain in turn 2. Lewis is starting to close the gap to Nico. Another fastest lap. Ted argues Mercedes have to pit Nico again to be fair to Lewis because they left him out and that's how Nico got the position. I'm not too sure that's how it works, especially as, as Crofty points out, it would mean relegating Nico somewhere down in P8 probably, and so losing the 1-2. Nico sets the fastest lap again. They're matching pace. Lap by lap. The gap only moved by 0.039 in 5 laps. But Nico goes wide and Lewis suddenly gains a second. He's close to getting the DRS now. He's told the suspension loads are critical on turn 9 and he needs to avoid the kerbs. Worrying. Meanwhile there's a bit of tyre debris hanging beneath Nico's car that's probably slightly affecting aero. He also has a piece of something broken on the side of the car. It's not completely loose and minimally moving but still. 

Lap 50. Ted predicts everybody will be 2-stopping very soon. Nico, Lewis +1.6 cannot or will not close the gap, Max +11.9, Daniel +6.4, Raikkonen +1.2, Valtteri +15.8, Jenson +0.5, Grosjean +2, Massa +2.9, and I can't see who's P10 because Magnussen pits. Plenty of people pitting indeed. No one important yet. Ah nvm Valtteri is in. Lewis is closing fast suddenly. He sets the fastest lap. Is it hammer time? Ricciardo is closing on Daniel as well. And Lewis put Nico in the DRS zone. IT IS HAMMER TIME I KNEW IT! Bono said so on radio hehe. Let's go! He pits first. Not great again, 3.5. He needs a great out lap. HE WENT WIDE NO COME ON. Nico is in. Fuck fuck fuck. It's so much quicker! 2.3!!! Arghhh. He's still ahead. Fucccck. On top of it they put Lewis on softs and Nico on supersofts. Wtf is this. Oh but he closes that gap so quickly now. It's gonna have to happen on track and it makes me nervous as hell. I wonder if they're thinking about team orders. Lewis is unhappy about the situation though. "Nico car ahead, he is on the super-soft tyre. 16 laps remaining, need to attack and pass on-track," Bono tells him. "Why is he on the softer tyre than me?" Lewis asks. "Lewis we think that this is the right tyre to get to the end." The gap is 1.2. 1.1. 0.9. Lewis gets rid of a backmarker. Raikkonen overtakes Ricciardo for P4 as he goes wide. 1. 0.9. 0.8. Nico is gonna find himself stuck behind Max, who's currently leading because he hasn't pitted for the second time yet. 0.7. Max laps Hulkenberg. He doesn't pit. Lewis attacks Nico with DRS in the pit straight. 0.4. 0.7. He went so quick he almost broke the track record. 0.6. There's a lot of traffic. 0.7.

Lap 60. Tough battle ahead. Verstappen, Nico +0.5, Lewis +0.8. Nico attacks Max from the outside but goes wide slightly and can't get past. Daniel pitted but who cares right now. Nico attacks again and this time it works. He's back in the lead. Lewis is going to have to clear the RedBull quickly as well. There's 10 laps to go. Max still doesn't pit, are they planning to go to the end on these??? Jesus fucking christ Lewis doesn't make it down the pit straight meanwhile Nico lapped another car that's 2 cars between them. It's not good. 

10 laps to go. Nico is getting ahead. I'm so frustrated lol. Both Max and Lewis are stuck behind a backmarker then he finally gets out the way, Max goes through but Lewis overtakes them both let's go! Time to hunt! 1.6 to go and 9 laps. 1.4 and 8 laps. 1.2 and 7 laps. Massa retires. Daniel overtakes Jenson for P5 on his fresh ultrasoft tyres. I don't care, that's not the fight we want. Lewis sets the fastest lap. The gap is down to 1 second. 6 laps to go. Alonso retires as well. Hulkenberg retires. I don't care, I don't care! Why are they showing us Raikkonen being 3 seconds behind Max instead of the Mercs?! 5 laps to go. Another fastest lap, 4 laps to go. 0.6!!! 0.5!!! 0.4!!! Nico is stuck behind backmarkers, it's time to go come on! 0.3… 0.2… DRS down the pit straight but it's not enough. 0.4. 0.3. 0.2. Trying down the outside, it's not enough… 0.2… 0.3… Nico's tyres are degrading. He moves ahead of a backmarker as does Lewis. 2 laps to go jesus fucking christ. Nico gets DRS from lapping the backmarkers. He gets some air, 0.6. FINAL LAP. 0.3. 0.1!!! OH MY GOD THEY'RE WHEEL TO WHEEL AND THERE'S YELLOW FLAGS IN SECTOR 2 THEY TOUCHED! THEY TOUCHED! LEWIS IS PUSHED WIDE! NICO HAS DAMAGE, HIS FRONT WING IS BROKEN AND SENDING SPARKS EVERYWHERE. IT DISINTEGRATES! AND LEWIS OVERTAKES HIM! AND PEREZ HAS CRASHED! AND NICO GETS OVERTAKEN BY MAX AND RAIKKONEN! oh my god oh my god what is this ending??? 

It's the end of the race!!! 

In the end, Lewis wins ahead of Max and Raikkonen, Nico is P4. Unbelievable. What did I just watch?!

On the radio Bono says it's not the race they were after but good result. Lewis immediately gets defensive. "I was on the outside. It wasn't me that crashed." I can hear him pouting through the years. 

We see a replay and I feel like I can see the split second when Nico decided he just wasn't gonna turn. Right before the impact. Listen, here's the thing. They both go to the limit every time they're up against one another, it's the dynamic. But you have to say Lewis manages to be more subtle than Nico about it. When Nico gets it wrong it's more often than not super clear cut. This is one of these times. 

Toto is seen banging on the table. That's gonna be a real nice debrief. 

We also see Perez' crash. His car wouldn't turn, maybe it's another suspension failure. Lewis is very happy still. You can tell his conscience is clear. Oh fuck no. The RBR race suits have a lederhosen design. Ugly. Lewis shakes Raikkonen's and Max's hands. It's gonna be a super dry podium though. He lets out a long sighing "whoo" as he walks to the timing screen. "That was intense at the end," he says. "What happened there?" Max asks excitedly. There's a short but noticeable pause. He chuckles dryly and says "he made a mistake into turn 1 in the last lap, and um… I was chasing him on the outside…" He sighs. "and I was ahead on the braking, and I started to turn, he [inaudible as the camera moves back]." Max makes another comment and as the camera moves back to them, Lewis chuckles softly again, turns around with his head bowed but a noticeable smirk, and mutters "ah jeez…" He avoids the camera as usual. 

There's a few boos as Lewis gets on the podium. Then a lot more when he gets his trophy. During the anthem, the stewards decided they would investigate Nico for the collision as well as for driving with a badly damaged car. The investigation doesn't mention Lewis. Loads of whistling and booing during the interview as well. Rancid vibes as always. The interviewer asks if he knows what it is about. "I don't know but it's not my problem it's their problem," Lewis says. That's not gonna help. It doesn't matter. At the end when they get back to him and she asks what happened with Nico, the crowd gets rowdy again. Lewis repeats : Nico made a mistake into turn one that gave him an opportunity on the outside of turn two. He says he left a lot of room on the inside (true), and "guesses" he locked up and crashed into him. He thinks he might have had some issue with his brakes. She's trying to ask another question starting by "did you consider, maybe, to say, who…" but he interrupts her. "I'm here to win. I'm here to win." That's the end of it. Uncomfy.

In front of the Merc pit wall, Toto, Vowles, Paddy and some other guy I don't know are talking. 

Niki says as well he guesses Nico had a brake problem. What he doesn't understand is why they hit each other. When Ted says Brundle was under the impression Nico hit Lewis, Niki says no, the first issue was he had a brake problem. But then why did they hit each other? he says, this he doesn't understand and thinks it might have been Nico's fault. He'll have to look at it again. 

Toto is fucking pissed. Ted asks what he calls that incident. He thinks about it. "Brainless." Furrowed brows, closed expression and all. He's so angry. He doesn't say anything else. "Well from who?" Ted prompts him. He says "we" were marginal on brakes, if not completely over the limit. But they couldn't help the drivers (because of the stupid ass radio ban), and Nico suffered a BBW failure on the straight and defended really hard, and Toto is upset. He doesn't know yet what he will tell them. Ted says of course he won the race but it could have easily been a 1-2 (and right! yet another weekend with only one of them on the podium!) but Toto says it could also have been a double DNF. Ted also asks everyone he can about his theory that they basically owed Lewis the win after Nico's undercut. He asks about it in a more subtle way than that obvi. Toto says you can't play chess. Lewis was on a 1 stop strategy because they thought it was best. It wasn't the case so they converted to a 2 stop. Ted doubles down. He says they gave Lewis an opportunity to undercut with the second stop but they brought Nico in immediately thus not letting Lewis bring the undercut to completion. "No you're getting things wrong here, Ted," Toto says softly but firmly. He doesn't elaborate. 

Okayyy it's gonna be very interesting to hear Nico's version of things. He's gutted and he says he was sure he'd win and then he lost in the last lap, which he describes as "pretty intense". He also says he was struggling with his brakes and his tyres were degrading which gave Lewis a chance. He still felt confident he could defend and bring it home. He had the inside position. Ah here we go. He says he went a bit deep but it's fine because he can dictate as he's on the inside. That's not the rule lol. Absolutely fucking not. Like sorry you know I point it out when Lewis is full of shit but this time it's Nico for sure. He says he was "very surprised" that Lewis turned but bro it's a corner. That's what you tend to do. Still he says "*I* caused a collision", which is honest. She asks what he'll say to the stewards and slips in the question that Toto called the whole thing brainless. He's annoyed. He says he doesn't know he hasn't thought about that yet he's still frustrated about losing the win. She asks to talk about how he got in a position where he could win the race with the pit stops in the first place with Lewis trying to make the tyres last etc. He says to be honest he doesn't know about that, he was in front, he felt great, and he was gonna win the race. That's it. 

HAHAHAHA. God I love Anthony. He saw what I saw. Because he's on the skypad looking at replays. He says it seems indeed Nico had brake issues because in the precedent corner he runs past the apex. But then. You look at his hands on the on-board and that's how Anthony puts it : "it's clear to see that, you know, even if you're running out wide, he doesn't really attempt to even make the corner". And it's true. You see when he gets to the corner, he turns the steering wheel about 45°, they make contact,

and then he actually makes the corner which takes him turning the steering wheel a full 180°.

Ah wow I was wondering about the mistake Lewis has been mentioning into turn 1 and indeed on the replay we see Nico clipping the inside kerb. It's so subtle. What attention to detail it takes. On his on-board, we see he left enough space on the inside as he said and we see him fully turning the steering wheel to make the turn as you expect, or trying to, because they make contact before he gets there.

We also can see that when Lewis tries to make it back to the track after being pushed wide, Nico doesn't leave him space to do so. Then Anthony runs it again from the start. He says any driver seeing this would be asking why didn't you even try to make the turn, brake issue or not. 

Back to Simon, he shows Nico's on-board to Johnny. Johnny gleefully says : "I'll tell you when I'd start to turn. Just easing into now…" Simon goes "No." as the two cars collide. Johnny guffaws : "It's about 5 yards after!" Brundle doubles down from the commentary cabin with Crofty. It's Nico's fault. Lewis was on the racing line, he couldn't have gone more to the left than he did. Brundle thinks Nico will look back on it and "realise that his attempt to intimidate Hamilton and run him wide is a critical error." 

They're talking with Toto AGAIN. Simon says everybody in the skysports team agrees Nico should have turned earlier. Toto reiterates that Nico had a BBW failure into turn one. He says Nico tried to make the corner brake where he usually does but the brake didn't work anymore. But that's bullshit because that's not what Nico says. Nico said he could dictate the turn because he was on the inside. He didn't say he couldn't brake. Johnny doesn't buy it either. He says okay he had a brake issue but he didn't turn the wheel. They show him the on-board. What a uncomfortable position to be in. "See you normally would start now," Johnny comments. "And he doesn't turn, does he?" We hear Toto dejectedly say "yeah." Again I can't overstate how annoyed he is, understandably. The interview started with the journalist being pretty aggressive trying to get Toto to drop the PR act and now the tables have turned. Johnny says it's racing, as if to temper his mood down. Toto says sure but cars colliding is like déjà vu "and I'm ending up with you guys speaking about uh… colliding teammates and it's absolutely not what we want and we just need to think the consequences from here now." Toto also repeats that Lewis was originally on a 1 stopper and when they converted to a 2 stopper is when the problems began for him. He says the pit stops weren't perfect but they're trying new things but that's not where the race was lost. Simon asks what they're gonna do about it though, as he said himself it could have been a double DNF. They mentioned before if it happened again they might have to start giving team orders. Toto says when two cars DNF like in Barcelona the team looks like idiots. It's disrespectful to 1500 people who are working "their nuts off" to prepare the car. Johnny asks again but how can you control that? "It seems that talking doesn't bring us any further," Toto articulates. You can tell he's this close to just losing his shit with his two boys. They need to think of all possible solutions and it can go as far as implementing the unpopular team orders. Simon asks if that's what they're gonna do. Toto says no, but it's on the table, that's what they're gonna discuss. Johnny asks what they were asking last time they had this conversation : is it not gonna dictate the championship? Toto says the same thing he said at the time : he hates team orders, they want to let them race, but if racing ends up in collisions then it's not what they want. The others are also getting closer to them as well so that has to also be taken under consideration. 

Anthony is still playing with the replays and apparently Jenson Button himself reacted to it saying "he doesn't even let him back on the circuit!" after the facts when Lewis tries to rejoin. The thing is, though, Lewis overtook Nico under yellow flags. Anthony argued that given Nico's car was damaged and losing pieces, Lewis was entitled to overtake. I'm not sure that would hold with the stewards. Eventually Nico fell back but Lewis couldn't know that at the time so he went for it. I wonder if that's gonna be an issue. The thing is also the yellow flag showed up right as Lewis was passing by then he slowed when he saw the lights. Anyway he's not under investigation right now. 

Nico is out of the stewards and now Lewis is under investigation for overtaking under yellow flags I'm gonna lose my mind. 

Ted says the fans told him the track commentary was blaming Lewis for the collision as that's why they booed him.

We finally hear from Lewis.

Brundle asks if he was surprised to see Nico ahead of him after his pit stops and he says definitely. Everything was going well, he was doing everything he was asked to. He says he was "with Nico" and was asked not "to let him go any further" cause he's gonna have to stop (?). And then he himself had to come in. He was battling with the order to stop but he obeyed and then he was on other tyres and he was not too happy about that because Nico was on the faster tyre. "So yeah for sure I'm like 'how am I supposed to get by' with the disadvantage of being behind and then also at a disadvantage with the tyre compound". But he dug as deep as he could and thought "it is what it is, I'm gonna do everything that I can whether it's right or wrong". Brundle asks if he thinks he can take any blame for the incident or it's all Nico's fault. He starts by saying we're biased as humans but also he doesn't feel biased which. Great start lol. He says he was on the outside, he believes he was ahead going in, Nico was in his blindspot so he left plenty of space. He got to the white line, he began to turn and "boom, big hit". "So… Pretty sure he hit me," he says with a tentative smile, "rather than the other way."

Another journalist jumps in. Brundle lets him ask his question. He asks if Lewis was surprised by the crowd's reaction. He says for sure but he has a few team LH fans here and they were waving flags and he could spot them because they were wearing his favourite cap "you know the kind of burgundy one I have?" and in all honesty he only heard them.

He says these things "they're not the greatest" but "it happens." Brundle chimes in. He asks if he thinks it was about him, or "about us brits, on the EU ?" (I did see during the brakes ads for some kind of big talk show about whether or not the UK should leave the EU for wider historical context here lol) "I have NO. CLUE. Honestly," Lewis says half amused. He says he's been up there before and other people were being booed "for real reasons" like "taking someone out or doing something intentional, or appearing intentional", but he doesn't see how they got that from what happened today. Brundle asks how his brakes were because they heard they were both struggling with brakes– Lewis doesn't wait for the mic. He shakes his head. Once Brundle hands him the mic again he says "my brakes were fine." He says there's a gauge on the steering wheel and if the brakes get hot they have to take measures to keep them in the window. He says he will see later on but he's guessing Nico was in the red and rather than lifting (he starts chuckling as he talks) and looking after it, he brought them to failure. Brundle says they nearly collided again when he got back on the track. He says he tried to get back without losing too much ground and he didn't leave any space. He laughs. He says usually after such incidents you try to move over, "he stayed, he hugged the white line" and kind of appeared out of nowhere as he came. 

Simon says apparently they met at their apartment building swimming pool the other day and had a 30 minute talk trying to make things okay. Apparently in the written press conference Toto said again they might have to implement team orders and basically says just thinking about it makes him wanna "puke himself". 

Well they've waited for as long as they could but we don't know the stewards' decisions. Time to Google. Annnd Nico got a 10 second time penalty. It didn't change the results though. He was reprimanded and received 2 penalty points for driving with a damaged car.

A General History of F1: Red Bull Rising

Red Bull, starting in 2016, was already getting their glory days back. While Ferrari and Mercedes (mostly Mercedes) were inarguably the top teams during this time, Red Bull started to fight its way back up the ladder. The spark that started this all was young driver Max Verstappen, the youngest Grand Prix winner of all time. He very quickly swept into the Red Bull seat and announced himself as a future WDC after winning his first race with the team. He was only 18 years old.

When 2018 hit, F1 welcomed a new aspect. Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive (DTS) started filming and with it came an explosion in popularity. A new demographic, namely young women, came pouring in, and F1 drivers went from being relatively famous to rockstar famous. But with things like the media twisting stories to what they want, there are bound to be negatives.

One of those negatives came for Max Verstappen. Young, hungry, aggressive, and fearless, Verstappen reminded me of a young Vettel. He earned multiple less than happy nicknames during this time, from 'Crashstappen' to his most famous 'Mad Max'. Blunt and unafraid to speak his mind, the Dutchman didn't entirely click with the new position drivers found themselves in. He became despised almost instantly.

2019 and 2020 found Red Bull, and Verstappen specifically doing extremely well. they were now the team in title fights with Mercedes. The biggest struggle for them during this time was their driver lineup.

In 2018, their lineup had been rock solid. Young Max Verstappen was their key to the future, and an extreme talent. Experienced driver Daniel Riccardo was their steady choice, and rock solid racer. The two drivers got along famously, but on the track there was tension. Riccardo, like any driver, was selfish and wanted to be #1. It became increasingly clear that Verstappen was Red Bull's choice for the future. That year, Riccardo announced his move to Renault for 2019. This was beyond a surprise, as he was switching from a top 3 team to a midfield team. Riccardo would never drive for a top team again, and many call it the biggest mistake of his career

Red Bull's biggest problem now was finding the right teammate for Verstappen. They were also switching over to a new engine provider, which brought even more difficulties in. 2019 was a year of struggle for Red Bull, but not with this new engine. Honda, the provider, came through on their promise and the fast car had Verstappen fighting for podiums. But his teammate was another story.

For 2019 Red Bull elevated Pierre Gasly from Torro Rosso, the Red Bull junior team. He was gone halfway through the season. They then elevated Alexander Albon. This driver lasted slightly longer, but within a year and a half, he too was gone. In 2021 Red Bull finally seemed to get it right, and Sergio Perez was Verstappen's teammate until 2024. But even now, no teammate, save Riccardo, has kept up with Verstappen. A verified maneater in my opinion.

2021 was the season Perez joined, and also happened to be the year Verstappen won his first WDC. The season ended with drama, as Verstappen and Hamilton were both at the same exact number of points for the final race, something that almost never happens. But the drama didn't even stem from that. It came from the most controversial ending to a race in many years, a controversy that still leads people today to call Lewis Hamilton an 8x WDC instead of 7.

I know I said I would cover that in this post, but it was getting too long. Next post will cover 2021 up to 2023. The final post will discuss the current year and how it going so far.

Album: 1989 by Taylor Swift

Have I listened before? this album release was a CULTURAL EVENT in 2014....Taylor Swift's first pop album!! so yes ofc i have

Familiarity with the artist: I did go to the Eras Tour so take from that what you will...and I have listened to her entire discography at one point or another. I will say though I am generally not the biggest fan of Taylor's pop albums but this one tends to be the main exception.

say what you will about “Shake It Off” being corny and overplayed..it is! But it’s still fun and catchy as hell

Final Review: whew so much that I could say about this one...the production is crisp as hell, the songs are catchy, this is basically the textbook example of how to write a great pop album in the 21st century. HOWEVER, i think this album tends to get a similar treatment to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, in that it is generally seen by mainstream music criticism to be her best work even though I don't think the entire album as a unit is her strongest work. still, it's impossible to deny its lasting cultural impact, and this was the album that brought Swift into a whole new level of stardom. people may gripe about my comparison of Swift to the Beatles, but when you speak about cultural impact and influence on pop music and culture at large...there really is no one else on that same level. Taylor Swift is the millennial Paul McCartney. that's not me speaking as a fan of either Taylor or Paul, that's just an observable fact. it's also interesting to remember things like the whole streaming debate and to compare that to the Beatles also not being on streaming services for many years. of course, it's irrelevant at this point in time (money wins out always sadly) but it also shows you how much has changed in the music industry and landscape over the past 10 years.

Han/Leia Appreciation Week 2023

Han/Leia Appreciation Week is an event originally hosted at @han-leia-solo between 2016-2019. Last year, and with their permission, we decided to host it at @hanleiacelebration!

Since Beth Revis' "The Princess and the Scoundrel" was released on August 16th, 2022, we thought it'd be fun to mark the date as the anniversary of Han and Leia's wedding 🥰 And since this year is also the 40th anniversary of "Return of the Jedi", you'll see prompts related to both of those things!

💗 How does the Han/Leia Appreciation Week work?

The event will run from August 13th to August 19th, and there will be two different prompts each day that creators can fulfill with: fanfic, fanart, gifsets, graphics, fanvids, headcanons, crafts, playlists, rec lists. You’re encouraged to tag your posts with #hanleiaweek2023 so we can reblog them! After the week is over, we'll also share a masterlist with links to the works.

You can show your appreciation in many ways; however, please keep in mind that it has to be a creation of yours of some sort, e.g. don’t repost other people’s fanart, gifs, or unedited pictures. Rec lists should include a link to the original source both for fanfic and fanart (more on this after the cut).

You can use only one of the daily prompts, combine both, reinterpret them, or skip the day if you can’t think of anything. If you’re not able to post on the same day for a prompt, you’re still encouraged to share it through the week—just don’t post works for a certain prompt before the day corresponding to that prompt.

FAQs and Rules under the cut - please read!

💗 Can I post my work to another site and share the link on Tumblr?

Yes! This is a good option for people who might want to create explicit art that could be taken down on Tumblr, write a long fic or multichapter, or make videos or playlists.

💗 Does it have to be a new creation? Can I finish and post a WIP?

It has to be something that has never been posted anywhere else before, so finishing and sharing a WIP is okay! If it doesn’t fit any of the prompts, you can share it on Free Day.

💗 Is this event open to all ratings?

Yes! Just remember to use a “Read more” cut if you’re posting the whole work on Tumblr, and to add a note at the top if your work is rated Mature or Explicit, as well as if it has any major trigger warnings, so all folks can safely browse through the entries.

💗 Are there any length or quality requirements?

There’s no min. or max. length for fanfic or quality level for art, but please note that AI-generated works won't be accepted. For gifsets, there’s a minimum of two gifs (that must be made by you!). For playlists, there’s a minimum of five songs. For rec lists of fic or fanart, there’s also a minimum of five recs. Some more questions you might have about rec lists:

- How do I share someone else's art without posting a picture? You might post a thumbnail that crops a preview of the piece; if the piece has a title, you might use that; you might describe it; or you might say something like “this piece by [artist]”, and link to the source.

- What if I found a fanart on Google? Try to find the original source using reverse search image.

- What if I can’t still find it, can I just say “credit to the artist”? In that case, please just don’t share the piece.

- What if I know the artist but don’t have a link to the original source? Naming the artist and linking back to where you found it is okay, in that case.

💗 Is the event based on "The Princess and the Scoundrel"?

Not really! That's just an excuse to celebrate Han/Leia 😊 You don’t need to include or acknowledge it in any way in your creations, although you’re welcome to.

💗 Can I write for canon/Legends and include other pairings?

All canons, time periods, headcanons and AUs are welcome, and you're allowed to include side pairings, except for R*eylo. However, keep in mind that this is a Han/Leia appreciation week - at the risk of sounding repetitive, works should focus on appreciating Han and Leia's relationship!

💗 What's the time zone for the event?

Please don't worry too much about time zones: when we say "day", we always mean "whenever that day is for you in your part of the world". IE: if it's Monday for you, you can post your work for the Monday prompt.
