God, CRWBY is just so good at what they do. The way they tell the story even through action.
The fight choreography has gotten SO good lately. This latest episode was gorgeous, with Blake and Yang moving in perfect harmony- they’re partners. They trust and adapt and move to match each other in every situation. So you’re sitting there loving the choreography, loving their dynamic, loving their power, and then-
Weiss is fighting with Jaune. They’re not in perfect sync but they are competent, there’s cooperation and communication. Where’s Ruby?
Oh there’s Ruby. Not fighting. Not okay. And Weiss- Weiss notices when she goes down, the team helps, but they all immediately abandon her to comfort Jaune. Weiss and Ruby are not partners. They aren’t in sync, they’re not communicating, and suddenly you see it in brutally stark contrast because we were just shown what great partnership looks like.

I just want everyone to get back, and after awhile, Nora and Ren start picking up that Weiss is following Jaune more around.
Nora is many things, but oblivious to her friends’ interpersonal relationships she is not.
Hopelessly addicted to syrup in any form? Yes. Mostly only good for hitting things with a big hammer. Definitely. But no one can say she’s blind to the nonsense going on in the lives of her friends.
Especially when it comes to romantic leanings.
Weiss’s crush on Pyrrha, Ruby’s on Penny, Blake’s on Sun, Jaune’s on Weiss- Nora’s seen it all, been there since day one for every pining glance and wistful sigh.
She’d been the first to notice Pyrrha pining after Jaune, and then Jaune pining back until it all went to shit. She’s known since she met him that she’s in love with Lie Ren. And Yang and Blake could not be more smitten if they tried.
So it does not escape her notice that after returning from the Ever After, Weiss simply won’t stop following Jaune around.
Weiss isn’t the only one, of course. Ren, Oscar, and herself have barely left their leader’s side since he returned. Nora doesn’t know about the boys, but she’s more than a little scared that if she lets him out of her sight he’s going walk through a door she can’t follow him through.
Jaune all but admitted that they almost lost him. She can’t bury him again.
So she laughs and slaps his back too hard and ignores how he flinches and his voice cracks with time that didn’t pass. All smiles and fun times from Nora. That’s her job. Better to focus on a potential crush from the ice queen than the decades he spent mourning them while they mourned him.
Ren is better at emotions since his Semblance evolved, but Nora doesn’t want a shortcut. He could probably look at Weiss and figure out exactly what’s going on, but that’s not the point.
Nora doesn’t want answers half as much as she wants a distraction. This is the closest she’s been to normal since Atlas fell.
So espionage it is.
It’s going to take more than a war for Nora to forget the less than suave wooing attempts Jaune made in Beacon, or Weiss’s prickly shut downs of each try. So for the crush to be on the other foot…
Well. It’s interesting enough for Nora to want to look into. Jaune is her family, and he’s fragile these days. She loves Weiss like a sister, but if she breaks his heart, Nora will break her.
She just wants to make sure her intuition is correct. Nora of the past wouldn’t have bothered, opting to shove the two of them into a closet into the ice queen confessed.
There’s a lot of things Nora of the past wouldn’t have bothered with. She’s smarter now, and that wisdom was bought with broken knuckles on gold barriers and stone monuments on sandy hills. So she’s going to make sure.
Nora follows Weiss following Jaune from a discrete distance through an alleyway shaded with draped cloth, close enough to keep them in sight but far enough that she can’t hear what they’re saying.
She happened to be passing by as they returned from a market trip that Weiss offered to accompany him on, and decided to tag along. Nora isn’t an idiot, she knows a date when she sees one. Odds are Jaune didn’t, bless his heart, but (and there’s a twinge of guilt) after decades living in a storybook how good would anyone be at social cues?
Jaune says something off-hand and Weiss giggles, covering her mouth with a hand. She snarks right back at him, resting her hand on his elbow and smiling. The tips of his ears turn red and he grins, rubbing the back of his neck.
Nora’s eyebrows raise. She hasn’t seen him act this way since Beacon. Not with Weiss, either. With Pyrrha.
The duo’s conversation seems to meander into the more serious and their stroll slows to a stop. Nora ducks into a doorway. When she peeks back out, they two are just standing there, heedless of the crowd bustling around them. Jaune stands a head taller than most of the passers, and he appears to be frozen.
Wait.
Oh no.
Oh no! The crowd! They’ve been trying to get him acclimated back to people, but this amount is clearly more than he’s ready for. Gods what was she thinking letting him-
Nora is about run to him from her hiding place when Jaune starts moving. No… not just moving, he’s being shepherded from the street. Weiss has one hand on his back and the other at his elbow and is ushering him off the busy street.
Jaune is all but a puppet in her hands, shaking and distant, eyes a million miles away. Nora follows the two of them slowly, no longer trying to keep a low profile. Espionage be damned, if Jaune needs her she’s willing to endure Weiss yelling.
Eventually she finds them in an alley off the main road. There’s no traffic here, just a few empty crates.
He’s sitting against a wall, head between his knees. Weiss is next to him. Her dress is covered in sand and schmutz, but she doesn’t seem to notice. Nora watches as she takes one of Jaune’s hands and places it on her chest.
Exaggerated breathing, in and out. She’s letting him feel her heartbeat, Nora realizes. The hand that isn’t holding his is rubbing circles into his back. A breath in, a breath out. And all through it Weiss is keeping up a dialogue of murmurs.
Her eyes don’t leave him even as his shudders turn to full on shakes and he comes back to his body in a flail of panic, lashing out at perceived enemies. Weiss doesn’t try to restrain him, just keeps holding his hand and murmuring quiet words.
Jaune calms, and his breath comes back to him in a choking sob. He curls into himself even tighter, leaning towards Weiss but not touching her, and Nora’s heart clenches. What did that place do to her brother who craves physical affection like a starving man craves food?
Weiss shuffles closer and rests an arm around him (as much as she can) still holding his one hand. Her thumb rubs across his knuckles and Nora can see Jaune press into the contact like it’s the only thing binding him to the planet.
Maybe it is.
She’s intruding. This moment isn’t for her.
Nora slips away from the alleyway and back to the Academy. It’s not how she would’ve liked to confirm it, but in a way her espionage was a success. It lightens something in her to know her intuition was correct. Despite everything, she’s still Nora.
And she couldn’t ask for better hands than Weiss to hold her leader’s bleeding heart.

No because I'm still wondering how the fuck they're gonna explain everything that happened in the Ever After.
“So yeah we fell into this strange place and I found Blake and we started looking for Ruby and Yang and then we were captured by a village of talking mice but it's okay because Ruby appeared after befriending one of the mice (named Little) and they let us go, and then we found Yang fighting a Jabberwalker with one arm. And then Blake figured we were in a fairy tale and we just went with it and we had to get Yang's prosthetic arm because a talking raccoon had stolen it and we kinda started a fight. And then we went to the Red Prince (the Red King, he ascended, keep up) and they were a brat and Ruby decided to play and Yang, Blake and I became small and had to play too, and then the cat helped us escape, and then we ended up in a weird cave with this giant bug guy who drugged us and made us see younger versions of ourselves??? And then we went to the market and became big again but Neo attacked it with a bunch of Jabberwalkers and we found Jaune who had a Jackalope and was like 40 somehow, and then he told us that he picked a fruit and turned time back and that he was the Rusted Knight and that Alyx poisoned him and that she also had a brother and that the cat couldn't be trusted, and then we found Yang and Blake making out, fucking finally. And then we saw that he had started naming talking papers after everyone here and we saw that the guy was okay and then the papers committed suicide (they were okay later) and both him and Ruby had a fight and a mental breakdown and Ruby left and when we found her Neo had mentally tortured her with copies of our dead friends and the mouse was dead so she drank the tea of the tree thus kinda committing suicide or becoming someone else and then Neo had a mental breakdown too and turned out Jaune was right and the Cat was a bitch and they possessed Neo??? And then Jaune accepted his grief and moved on and we went to the tree and we found Ruby ascending and we saw the Cat-Neo and they told us that Alyx regretted what she'd done and that she'd tried to come back to help Jaune but they killed her and then the Cat wanted to possess Ruby but we didn't let them so we fought them and Jaune managed to get them out of Neo with a weed induced exorcism, and then Ruby came out the same but stronger than ever and we kicked the Cat's ass and then Neo killed them and decided to ascend so that's why she isn't here. Then we saw that Little had ascended and was now a bigger mouse named Somewhat, Jaune let them take care of his jackalope and we said goodbye and then met God who was a pretty chill Blacksmith Woman who then told us the Brothers are actually just powerful Afterans who've never ascended and not gods??? And then Jaune turned young again and we said bye to God and here we are.”

Ruby:Can I say something a little strange and not be judged?
Weiss:I will make an attempt.
Ruby:I would pay so much money for a weighted blanket that’s as heavy as when Jaune sleeps on me.
Weiss:….
Weiss:Okay, so I really hate that I understand exactly what you’re saying. It’s like a forever cuddle. It could be a heated blanket too to simulate warmth.
Ruby:I am so happy I brought this to you. Do you have the funds for this dream?
Weiss:I think there’s a market for it.
Yang:Blake, we have to finish this mission soon. They’re starting to implode.
Blake:Honestly I think a weighted body pillow is the way to go.
Yang:….
Blake:..Y’know since you’re the odd one out, it’s actually you who isn’t normal for thinking about this.

The Rusted king and the mobile city.
In the market as jabber walkers came a did other humans clearly the people who fell. The humans in armor quickly knock away the walkers.
Some of the armored soldiers fire nets at team Rwby ," you were with the cat the body jacking parasite that eat Alyx you will stand before the moving cities rusted king."
The sky turns dark as a massive steam punk city in treads rolls up.
Weiss ," ......a lot to take in there,"
Ruby is shaking holding yang " they cat wanted to steal my booty"
Yang cant think as thanks to not her head is in Bella booty.
Blake "...... Oh its like a fanfiction
A ramp opens up and team ruby are loaded into a cart that runs on tracks which takes them to a throne room.
Weiss uses glyphs to free them and she stares.
Upon the throne made of metal bones and rust. Sits the knight now a king. The king has a repaired sword has helmet has wielded on horns and gems as a crown. He has a fur coat made from jabberwalker skin complete with the beast's skull in this right shoulder.
The king stands " team rwby at long last I have been waiting
Blake bowing ".... You know us .... Your rusted majesty?"
The king removes his helmet revealing Jaune his chair now grey as this beard they seemed confused. " of course I know you guys." He drew a familiar blade with logo in sword sword mode. " time travels is confusion but I have go be by many names. Mr. Knight, rusted knight, the ruated king but my original name is Jaune Arc."
Blake jaw dropped
Ruby's eyes bug "......Jaune "
Yang tilts head "..... Didn't see that coming
Weiss ,"..... I am an idiot"

Building a Full House
/== Master Post List ==/
Yang watched as Pyrrha Nikos seemed to have lost her mind completely. Ten minutes ago she dragged off Jaune, and now she was back in the cafeteria sneaking up on Weiss and Ruby.
Yang: I'm conflicted.
Watches as Pyrrha get's closer...
Blake: Why?
Yang: I feel like I should save Rubes... but...
Blake: But?
Pyrrha gets right behind Ruby and Weiss as they are arguing about whether cookies are an appropriate lunch.
Ruby / Weiss: EEP! / HEH!
Yang: I'm scared to... do you know what P-Money is up to?
Blake: No idea. Why don't you ask her?
Yang bites her lip as she watches Ruby and Weiss struggle in vain as Pyrrha holds them under her arms, and starts walking to the exit.
Yang: Yeah, I guess I should. P-Money!
Pyrrha stops, and turns now holding an exhausted Weiss and Ruby under each arm.
Pyrrha: Yang?
Yang: Hey... um... can I ask... what you're doing?
Pyrrha: I'm just building a Full house.
Yang: A full house?
Pyrrha: Yes, like the hand in poker... I'm just a little stumped... at the moment.
Yang: I don't get it.
Pyrrha: You do know what a full house is right?
Yang: Yeah, three of a kind and two of a kind.
Pyrrha: SO that is what I am building... I'm just not sure if I should go 2 blonds & 3 red-heads, or 3 blonds and 2 red-heads.
Yang: Huh? What?
Blake: Is that why you grabbed Jaune earlier?
Pyrrha: Exactly.
Blake: Okay. Why not grab Sun. He's blond, and that would also give you two guys and three girls.
Pyrrha: (menacing tone) Jaune's babies only.
Blake: Oh... okay... um... Yang's blond. How about her?
Yang: Hey!
Pyrrha leans forward to study Yang for a moment, before glancing at Blake and then leaning back.
Pyrrha: Thank you but no.
Yang: Hey! What am I not good enough?
Pyrrha: No, you are plenty good enough... but your Blake's Blond... so you are not "on the market"
Yang: Blake's Blond?
Pyrrha: I must be going, babies do not make themselves. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Yang: Blake's Blond?

Weiss: You know that old saying that couples who have been together for a long time start to act more like each other?
Weiss: Well, it's true.
--------------------------------------------------
Ruby: (Dating Whitley Schnee) Hm...
Ruby: There's a recent inflation on ice dust, so I should try to use those sparingly. At least until the market evens out.
--------------------------------------------------
Jaune: (Married to Nora Valkyrie, Sleeping)
Jaune: (Sits up, Yawns) What's for breakfast? (Heads to fridge, Opens it) Hm... Chocolate cake? Or waffles... (Snaps fingers) Waffles in chocolate syrup~!
--------------------------------------------------
Ren: (Married to Yang Xiao Long) Huh?!
Ren: Are you kidding me?! Come on, he was wide open! OPEN YOUR EYES!
Yang: (Married to Lie Ren, Drinking tea) Mm... Should probably get the house winter-proofed.
--------------------------------------------------
Sun: (Married to Blake Belladonna) So then I told him...
Sun: Regardless of your predetermined stances on the turbulent political climate, it's still the right of every single cognitively functioning individual on Remnant to have a say in the delegation of responsibility to the preferred political party of your choosing!
Sun: And he looks at me like I'M the idiot!
--------------------------------------------------
Neptune: (Dating Salem) Talk about her like that again, and I will tear every awful thing you've ever said about her out that thick skill, word by word, piece by piece.

Long time no see, Bridgy! I've kinda missed your prompts ever since you stopped taking them... how long ago was it? Anyway, I hope life has been well for you.
But now that you've started taking prompt requests again, I'd like to request a prompt that has been on my mind for... honestly, I've lost count of the time. But here it is:
Instead of one Rusted Knight, the gang encounters the Rusted Legion, made up of multiple Jaunes from across the multiverse.
Ruby could only watch as her friends rushed past her to fight the creature that came into the market. Her body refused to move even as the Curious Cat tugged at her skirt, eyes locked on the creature that she knew as the Jabberwalker. Her heart raced as she instinctively reached for the weapon she didnt have, fingers shaking as they closed to make a fist.
And then her eyes widened. Another Jabberwalker rushed into the market along with another and another, more than there ever was in the story she was familiar with. She found herself pulling back as her legs started to shake, her breathing started to become ragged as she watched her friends struggle against the monsters that seemed to come in overwhelming power.
“Get back!”
Ruby looked towards the voice that called out, her heart started to calm as she watched a knight wearing rusted armor riding a jackalope race towards the Jabberwalkers. She finally pulled her hand away from her back as the knight stopped between the Jabberwalkers and her friends.
“Get out of here and head to the mountain,” the knight half ordered as he pulled his sword out of its hilt and readied his shield. “There’s a cave for you to get to. We’ll handle these.”
Weiss looked at the knight, an eyebrow raised. “We?”
As if to answer her question, a few more knights came racing towards the Jabberwalkers to defend the market. Each one seemed to take a Jabberwalker and started to push them back as another couple started to evacuate the remaining denizens that werent able to get out. The knight that stopped closest to Yang, Blake, and Weiss seemed to watch the others to make sure everything was under control before speaking again. “I’ll lead you to the cave.”
“And who are you?” Yang asked as the knight walked past her. “We dont know we can trust you.”
“I’ll explain everything once we get you to safety. But right now its not safe to stay here. There’s only supposed to be one Jabberwalker.”
Ruby stared at the knights that were fighting the Jabberwalkers. She still couldnt manage to get her body to move, still frozen in place. Even as the first knight walked past with her team in tow, all she could do was watch as the marketplace had started to be destroyed. It was just like what had happened with Atlas. She hadnt been able to do enough then, just like she hadnt been able to do enough now. So much destruction and there wasnt anything she could do for it.
“Ruby, are you okay?” Yang asked as she put a hand on Ruby’s shoulder.
Ruby slowly looked away from the fighting and towards her friends. “Y-yeah, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?” Blake asked. “You seemed zoned out-”
“I’m fine!” Ruby snapped. She nearly recoiled once she realized what she’d said and started to follow the knight. “I-I just want to get out of here and go home.”
Weiss sighed and followed right behind Ruby. “We all do and we will. But until then, we’re going to need all the help that we can to find a way out.”
Ruby nodded and quietly followed the knight out of the market and up the mountain that was just past it. Her body almost seemed to move on autopilot as she followed the Rusted Knight, her eyes unfocused as she kept them on him. Any other time she would’ve been excited about meeting the Rusted Knight, being in the Ever After and seeing the world and not just imagining how everything looked. But the longer they went, the more they followed the book and ran into each of the characters, the more if felt that getting home was going to be an impossible task.
Soon enough, they found themselves on the path to a cave near the top of a small mountain with two knights keeping watch. Once they reached the cave, they came to a stop as the knights took their helmets off. Ruby couldnt believe that she was seeing two Jaunes standing in front of her.
“We’ve kept watch just as you asked,” the Jaune with an eye patch said. “The path back to our stronghold is still clear.”
The Rusted Knight nodded and motioned them away. “Head back and let the others know we’ll be having guests soon. They need to rest before I bring them around.”
“Yes Sir,” both Jaunes said as they saluted before heading off.
“Neither one of them were our Jaune, were they?” Weiss asked quietly.
“Not from what I could tell,” Blake answered. “They looked different.”
Yang shrugged and walked into the cave. “But Jaune didnt fall, did he? I mean, it was only us, right?”
“I’m sure he made it to Vacuo,” Weiss answered. She looked over at the Rusted Knight, a blush crossing her cheeks. “But we do have a knight to thank.”
The Rusted Knight walked into the cave last and sat down to make a fire. “You dont need to thank me, I’ve been waiting for all of you, Weiss. Its so good to see all of you again.”
“You… know us?”
The Rusted Knight nodded and removed his helmet. “Its been too long.”
The girls all stared at the knight… no… Jaune… it was another Jaune, the third Jaune that they’ve seen. Ruby kept quiet while Blake and Weiss seemed to be running through their own thoughts on what they had expected for the Rusted Knight. Yang, however, finally managed to speak.
“Alright, what gives?” Yang asked. “Why are there three of you?”
“There’s more than that,” Jaune said as he added a few more sticks to the flames in front of him. “I’ve met about thirty other Jaunes and there could be hundreds more. But I am your Jaune.”
Weiss nodded and sighed. “Then you fell too. And Winter?”
“Winter made it to Vacuo before the portal closed. After Cinder managed to get the staff, the bridge started to fall apart.”
“And the other Jaunes, why are there so many?”
Jaune shrugged. “I’m not sure, but I know they’re all from different timelines. Some fell the same way we did, others ended up falling here another way. And if they fell here, then I’m sure there are other versions of you that did too. Though, I havent seen any yet.”
Ruby slowly nodded and sat down, staring at the flames and at Jaune. If so many had fallen here too, then did that mean there was no way Atlas could’ve been saved? Was she destined to fail no matter what? It made her head spin the longer she thought about it, her heart breaking as one simple truth came to mind: she was never going to be a hero like her mother.

What are your thoughts on WR development overall and your thoughts on WR being developed/made canon in V10?
Ugh I am going to ramble about everything here I can feel it...well you asked for it. I apologize for none of it, and if you all hate me at the end well I don't mind.
Volume 6 and before are pretty much great. They go from kinda at odds to tentative friends, learning to trust, and rely on each other, best friends, pining over one and other and V6 was a loooot of WR for us to feast on.
Afterward I felt like it got sidetracked. There could be various reasons for this (in hindsight I feel like Penny being given a way bigger role so her death could hit harder is to blame for part of this because realistically how long has Ruby known Penny? A month?)
Even if you don't like the ship they're supposed to be canon best friends so I take personal issue with almost all of volume 9.
I think it was sloppy writing that didn't move the story forward, and even though I don't care about Bees I feel like they still got shafted since they basically were forced to confess to move things along, and them doing so made them miss out on the sister/supposed friend and her problems, and only showcased the worst sides of the relationship.
For example Yang let's Ruby scream at Weiss but only moves to do something when Blake gets yelled at. Blake and Ruby still have...less dialogue than Ruby does with Ren I think etc.
Jaune was too present merely because his entire deal took away from Ruby's imo.
I've said it before but frankly Nora falling and learning who she is away from Ren so when she sees him in V10 she's ready for the relationship is far more satisfying to me narratively.
Leave Jaune above ground so he has to deal with the fact that he thinks he failed his friends and they all died and let him learn from that experience instead.
This also doesn't take into account that Jaune's one interesting change in 9 (being old) is taken away via random deaging (although I guess this makes deaging canon and hey young maria this is how dwr can still win! more at 11!)
Generally when characters go through a volume you want some sort of arc for them to go and change through. Weiss gets none of that. Out of all the characters nothing really happens to her, and she doesn't change at all. She's just sad about Atlas. Neat.
There's no time for it just like there's no real time for Ruby.
In Ruby's own words 'gotta help Jaune right?' and they do. Ruby removes herself from the census, which is how its framed, and they stop to...help Jaune.
There are a few moments that are WR'ish in 9. The Nevermore summon, Weiss believing in Ruby, and calling her name first etc, but overall Weiss's main job is to backslide.
I said it before but in the market Neo, the perfect assassin is after Ruby, and they split up. Weiss goes 'gross nosehairs', and ditches her best friend who she already knows by that point is NOT doing well.
This is not Volume 1. This Weiss is not that petty, and she's literally had to manhandle corpses. The fact that she wouldn't stay near her canonical best friend, and leader is asinine, and only happens so she can be alone to meet the smith.
Even if Weiss can't help Ruby fight Neo she's an extra pair of eyes (and Neo doesn't care how crowded it is in the market), and just being there for Ruby can help.
With all that said RWBY is big into symbolism. When WR are together in almost all the side spin off material it means something. Manga Anthologies has them making heart eyes and flirting like every other page. Ice Queendom was a love letter to WhiteRose (precious?). The movies, etc.
When their weapons rest next to each other on screen like the Bees do? It means something. When their flowers break ranks to be near each other (and Weiss's flower is the lily please note)? This means something.
Ruby can stand and jump from missile to missile but has to wrap her arms around Weiss to stay seated?
If Chibi continues it's pattern of predicting things in the main plot then the fact that Weiss is the woodsman in the fairy tale means a loooot as in several versions of that fairy tale the woodsman marries little red after helping her deal with the wolf problem (which varies by the story).
They're the knight and princess for each other. Ruby comes into Weiss's live turns it upside down, and helps her change. Likes her for her genuinely and wants to be her friend at the start. Through this she changes the world for Weiss, and helps her grow, and Weiss in turn helps Ruby be the leader she can be.
But yeah I guess that's just friends things and they should date some guys they've had like a half a dozen lines with instead? I don't get it really.
She and Oscar punch each other in the face, and they talk about strategy. Oscar has a younger kid crush on her, and Ruby is awkward because that's her headmaster in this kids head. Oh right he went in for a hug she ignored. Peak romance.
Jaune and Weiss have almost no interactions, and when he saves her at Haven her response isn't to be like 'omg i love you' it's 'keep doing it i have work to do'. Are they friends now? Sure, but that's about as far as it goes.
It remains that outside of group hugs the only person that's allowed to initiate contact with Weiss almost all the time outside of battle is Ruby.
Ruby knows when she needs help and will guide her away when she needs it, but other people don't' touch Weiss unless she does it first because they know she doesn't like it...except Ruby.
I have tried to look at other relationships for them, and I honestly don't see them as realistic.
Even Penny would need a lot more development to make it work. I get that it's cute and wholesome but they've known each other for again a month, and Penny just defers to Ruby.
Ruby needs a partner and equal not a submissive enabler. That's a relationship you have with a pet, and not a person.
Now if Maria were young and hot that'd be different...
Anyway...
Tumblr media
Ruby and Weiss are partners. If they're allowed to have the much needed conversations they never seem to get, ie haven, ever after, Ruby's mom, everything, etc.
Then is it possible? Maybe. If they do go WR I suspect it'll be more hints, and slow ramp up until the final season.
I would expect it either on the eve of the final battle, or literally during it maybe as in Weiss gets feds up with waiting, and decides to do something about it.
More likely at this point is they'll both just end up single with maybe faint hints so fans can imagine what they want for it.
Would I prefer it if it was WR so the team can truly be family? Yes, but I don't even know if we're getting a volume 10 at all to be honest. The fact that it wasn't announced at the last festival, and we get an extended eppy, and then nothing after the last movie?
Not making me feel super confident. I could be wrong though. On many things. Except Young Maria.

They both play matchmaker, honestly
Weiss, because if she has to watch Blake and Yang pine for three years all over again she’s going to actually stab someone. Jaune, because he knows that Ren and Nora are basically together together and are only staying apart because they don’t want to ruin what they have
Jaune is partly despairing because his shows were all reset, and partly rejoicing cause it means he gets to watch them all over again. He sort of uses it as a lottery situation, because it means that all his “theories” are correct, so he becomes a popular fan blog/channel
Weiss FULLY goes into stock exchange mode, specifically to build up a pool of funds away from Jacques. She was reliant on him once, and she’s done with that shit. She’s more subtle it about than Jaune (this is the stock market after all) but she makes sure to have plenty of funds for their upcoming adventures
They BOTH try to keep tabs on Ironwood as much as possible without alerting the General’s rampant paranoia. Same with Lionheart and the Huntsmen he sends to die. They save a lot of lives by just keeping an eye on the known traitors

“It’s not enough.”
“But… that's how much it was last month.”
Rent day is a day Weiss always dreads, the fear of not having enough to cover her farm and land creeping up her spine everyday like a parasite, biting into her nerves and spreading. Her fear is warranted. Land Baron Rose was no laughing matter.
Every second day of the month, she showed up on her black and white steed, dark red cape on her shoulders with a red fabric covering the majority of her face, demanding payment. Weiss knows it isn't’ really Baron Rose's fault; it’s Ozpins. Head of the Land Barons, if his companies didn’t return with the correct amount, they paid with their life. At least that was the rumors.
“Prices change,” Baron Rose says, shrugging slightly. Weiss can’t see her eyes due to her being saddled on Crescent Rose, the swift horse she was always seen with. “If you can’t pay, you best look extra hard in your sock drawer.”
Weiss swallows thickly. “Please, ma’am I…” She flounders, tries to think of something, anything she can barter with. Glancing around the small area of her home, she rings her hands. “M-my sister is coming. Tomorrow. She has the money. If you… if you wait until tomorrow, I'll have it all.”
Baron Rose’s eyes tighten, and she shifts in her saddle. “You and I both know there's no leeway. You’ve had all month.”
“Markets been slow,” Weiss says, her throat dry. “The herbs and oils haven’t been selling well. My sisters bringing me seeds to try vegetables.”
Baron Rose snorts, looking to the side of the house where Weiss keeps her garden. She’d been to the house enough times to know its layout, and Weiss follows her gaze.
Beside the vines, a small chicken coop sits with three hens inside, Weiss’ newest purchase. The eggs had been helpful, and she’d been able to make throat-soothing jams with them that she also sold at the market.
“New chickens?” Baron Rose asks and Weiss nods. From her horse, Baron Rose glances back at her. “You should get more than just one. Chickens get lonely.”
Weiss gives her a confused look before turning her head to the coop and finding sure enough, only one hen is settled inside. Weiss feels her blood become chilled and she shakes her head slowly. She can’t afford to lose those hens, they had cost her several vials of ointment and coins; how would she replace them?
“T-they, i-” Weiss says, before Crescent Rose suddenly whines and takes several trotts back. Baron Rose clicks her teeth, tries to calm her animal and it isn't until Crescent Rose raises to her hind legs that Weiss see’s her hens sprinting around the horse. Their feathers and squeaks scare the horse who whines again, rearing up, and Baron Rose curses, pulls on the reins.
Weiss darts forward, trying to catch the manic chickens but the race from her grasp, looping around the horse that whines and bucks in fear. The Baron yanks on the reins again, but Crescent Rose leaps, darting to the left unexpectedly and the Baron is tipped off.
When she hits the ground, Weiss whines at the sickening crunch that echoes on the dirt farm floor and Baron Rose lets out a scream. Crescent Rose darts forward, kicking up dirt and pebbles as she runs off, her screaming rider long forgotten and Weiss drops to her knees beside her, eyes wide.
“Let me!” Weiss demands as the Baron tries to swat her hands away. With a shaky breath, Weiss leans over the Barons leg and her insides flip. The bottom of the woman's ankle is clearly sprained, the skin already swelling and tightening within the confines of her boot.
“Let's get you inside,” Weiss says, trying to keep her voice gentle. “And get that boot off.”
The Baron scowls, only her eyes visible and they’re laced with pain and frustration. “Fuck off. I need to find Crescent.”
“She always comes back, right?” Weiss tries, and Baron Rose stills. “Well you can’t walk like this. Your ankle’s clearly damaged, and lucky for you I can help. But you have to let me.”
Baron Rose is quiet for a moment before she lets out a soft sigh, and nods. Gritting her teeth, Weiss slips an arm around the girl's waist and slowly helps her stand, taking the brunt of the weight as they slowly enter her cabin.
Placing Baron Rose at the small dining table, she rushes to her med kit, unfolding the leather and carefully selecting her tools. She ties her apron around her waist before shoving her braid over her shoulder and placing the tools in the aprons pocket. When she turns back to the table, she pauses.
The baron has removed her brimmed hat, revealing dark red hair cropped short. It’s spiky at the edges, and Weiss believes that fits her personality perfectly.
Kneeling, Weiss carefully grabs Baron Rose's leg and places it on the table. The Baron winces but says nothing and Weiss purses her lips. “I’m going to remove the boot and your sock first, to assess the damage. Hopefully it’s just a sprain, and no real break. If it’s a sprain, I'm completely capable of treating you.”
The Baron stays silent and it’s then that Weiss realizes the girl has silver eyes, piercing as they stare.
Swallowing, Weiss grabs a pair of sheers from her apron, and begins to slowly pierce the leather of the boot. She’s careful in her movements, feeling the Baron's eyes on her as she works, and when the boot is shorn on the seam, she’s able to remove it completely without a sound.
Dropping the leather to the floor, Weiss glances up. “This might hurt, just a bit. I’ll be careful.”
Face still mostly covered by her red fabric, the Baron nods once. Inhaling, Weiss cuts the seam of the sock away, and lets out a relieved breath as she slowly rotates the ankle and finds that the bones had not pierced the skin. The ankle itself is swollen, the skin already red and purple and green and Weiss smiles.
“This is good,” she says, glancing at the Baron before looking back at her ankle. “No pierced skin, so no way of infection.”
She wipes her hands on her apron before going to her sink and washing her digits. Opening her cabinet, she explores her options of oil before reaching for a vile, and uncorks the screw. She dabs the contents onto a clean rag and returns to the injured ligament.
“This is a family recipe,” Weiss says, and she hopes her bedside manners are decent. “It’ll help calm the swelling, so long as we keep it raised.”
“Smells like dandelions.” Baron Rose says and her voice makes Weiss jump.
“Well, it um, contains crushed dandelion petals,” Weiss replies, and begins to lightly dab the rag on the swelled skin. They’re quiet as she works, her movements percisse and eventually, she nods in satisfaction.
“There,” she says, placing a hand on her hip. “Give it a few days and the swelling will drop and we can fit you for a splint while it heals.”
The Baron blinks, her eyes dropping to her propped up foot. “How’d you know?”
Weiss shrugs, rubs her slick hands on her apron. “My mother was a believer in natural remedies.”
“She taught you?” the Baron asks, and Weiss nods.
“Everything I know.”
Baron Rose hums, silver eyes still trained on her ankle and she flexes her toes the smallest bit before raising her hands behind her head, and tugging off the fabric from her face.
Weiss isn’t sure what she was expecting, maybe an ugly scar or yellow teeth, but the face that greets her is anything but ugly. With large cheeks and a button nose, the Baron is… cute. Pretty.
Her complexion like snowfall that had been caressed with sunset. Weiss realizes she is staring and looks away, dropping her eyes to her hands as she gathers her tools and places them in the sink to be washed.
“How long til I can walk?” The Baron asks, and Weiss shakes her head before dipping her hands into the pail bucket of water.
“Not for several weeks,” she says regretfully. “You’ll need assistance getting back to the main town… I- my sister, she comes tomorrow. She could… take you.”
Weiss washes the tools, keeps her eyes focused as the Baron offers no response. She lays out the damp tools on the counter, allowing for them to air dry and she turns back around, presses her backside to the lip of the sink.
“You can stay here, until she arrives.” Weiss offers, and the Baron frowns, brows furrowing in quiet frustration.
“I suppose I don't really have a choice,” She scoffs, looking away. “Do I?”
Weiss runs her tongue along her bottom lip and glances outside her window. The sun was in the middle of setting, golden rays stretching across the barren land like fingers and casting shadows that created the spooky stories her mother once used to tell her.
Don’t go out at night, princess. The Grimm come out of their dessert caves when the sun is no longer there to scare them.
Shaking her head, Weiss pushes herself off the sink. “You hungry?”
“No.” the Baron says stiffly, and Weiss rolls her eyes.
“You need to eat,” Weiss counters, pulling a folded sack from her pantry. “Your body needs fuel to heal the hurt appendaged.”
The Baron grunts and Weiss takes that as an answer. She unwraps the sack to reveal a loaf from yesterday's baking, and she cuts a couple of slices before plating it. She adds dried apples before scooping three spoonfuls of corn dodgers and gives the food a satisfied nod. Grabbing both plates, Weiss sets one in front of Baron Rose, and sits quietly beside her, the chair scraping as she sits.
“Thank you.” the Baron says quietly. Weiss pauses before nodding and picking up a corn dodger and taking a bite.
“How's your pain?” She asks, and watches as the Baron picks up an apple slice and place’s it atop the bread, taking a bite. “Sorry I don't have any butter or cheese… I don't have a good cooling system.”
“S’alright,” the Baron answers, chewing slowly. “And the pain is… nothing I can't handle.”
Weiss frowns before she stands and removes a mug from the cupboard. “Give me a moment, just going to fetch more water from the well.”
“What for?” the Baron asks as Weiss opens the door. Weiss nods at her and smiles.
“For tea, Baron Rose.” she replies, and closes the door behind her.
The expanse of land is nearly dark as Weiss pumps the well lever, glancing around her as she works. She doesn’t necessarily believe in the Grimm, but she does believe in robbers, and to her, those can be worse than the dark creatures of fairy tales.
Water sloshing, Weiss presses into her front door before closing it with the heel of her foot. At the table, Baron Rose has finished most of her plate, her jaw working as she glances up. Measuring out water and herbs, Weiss quietly makes a cup of healing tea, and holds it out.
“This should help the pain,” Weiss says softly, ignoring the tingle in her hands as the Baron's fingers brush over hers when she takes the mug. “Allow you to sleep and rest.”
Baron Rose nods, and takes a tentative sip. Weiss sits down once more and pops a dried apple slice into her mouth.
They sit quietly as Baron Rose finishes her tea and Weiss finishes her plate, quickly cleaning up the dishes before she pulls out her extra sleeping blankets. She makes a makeshift bed on the floor beside her own small bed, and holds out a hand to the Baron.
Grimacing, the Baron allows Weiss to help her to the bed, letting out a sharp breath when she sits. She looks at the makeshift bed in confusion before glancing at Weiss' face.
“You take the bed,'' Weiss says, leaning down to grip Baron Rose’s ankle. “You're injured and a guest, it’s only right.”
The Baron opens her mouth to protest but a sound of pain echoes as Weiss places both ankles on the mattress. Falling to her back, the Baron pants in small, agonized breaths.
Standing straight, Weiss tidies the house, the whole while feeling Baron Rose's eyes on her back. She tries to keep herself busy, tries not to feel her stomach flip at the thought of sleeping so close to someone. It had been so long since Weiss had shared a bed, much less a space, with someone who wasn’t family.
Her brother and sister visit, but Weiss had never truly been lucky in the relationship department. Sure, there had been boys. Her first kiss had been at age twelve with a blonde boy who didn’t even really like her, he just wanted some practice for when he finally got up the nerve to talk to his real crush, a red head with bright green eyes in the grade above them.
Weiss hadn’t minded; he had been good practice. But it had given her a skill she’d never used, and never thought she would.
Shaking her head, she pushes in the chairs of her dining table, straightening the flowers that adorn it and she hears a cough.
“Are you going to sleep anytime soon?”
Weiss turns, feels the embarrassment seep into her cheeks, and she laughs nervously. “Sorry, I just, hah, neat freak.”
“I see that.” the Baron replies in a low tone and Weiss swallows.
“Do you, um…” Weiss tries, and then blinks hard. “Do you prefer sleeping with candles on or out, Baron Rose?”
Sitting up on her elbow, the Baron cocks her head. “Out.”
Weiss nods and begins to blow out all the candles except one that she grabs. The room is engulfed in mostly darkness, and she haphazardly makes her way to the makeshift bed, settling on her knees and looking over at the Baron's ankle.
“Looks good,” she says softly, almost to herself. “Swelling has definitely stopped.”
“Mmm,” the Baron replies, and Weiss offers her a small smile. “Anything you need before we turn in, Baron?”
Baron Rose gives a muted, half-grin before she shakes her head. “Nah. Got a western magician helping me out.”
Weiss blows out the candle to hide the red in her cheeks and settles down against the blankets. She puts the blown out candle by her pillow before flipping to her back and tugging the covers up around her. “Western cowgirl, actually. I know I don't look it but I actually ride horses as well.”
The Baron chuckles in the dark, the sound breathy. “Oh yeah? Y’know, I could see that actually.”
Weiss giggles, presses her fingertips to her mouth. “Well you are the first, so… Goodnight, Baron Rose.”
The covers are itchy but Weiss doesn’t mind, and makes a mental note that the guest covers need a wash. She pushes some hair out of her face, lets her eyes drift shut.
“It’s Ruby, by the way.”
Weiss blinks, the Baron’s voice bouncing around the darkened cabin like an acorn fallen from its branch. “What?”
There's a few more seconds of silence before her low voice cuts the silence. “My name. My name is Ruby Rose. Not Baron. Barons just… the title.”
“Oh,” Weiss says softly. She tries the name out on her tongue, lets it fold over her tongue and between her teeth. She decides that she likes it, that it fits the girl with red hair in her bed and that it is truly the only name that makes sense. “Goodnight, Ruby.”
“Goodnight Weiss.”
