btw my tag for weirdreg is now weirdspace because I’m coming to understand it as a state of mind that I can do things with that aren’t covered under “regression” as understood by agereg or petreg and that I’d feel uncomfortable calling “regression” per se but I call that state of mind “weirdspace”. 

it’s because I realized that the dynamic I was coming up with between the POV person in a weirdcore edit and the person delivering the text lent itself very well to D/s dynamics

and since weirdspace isn’t inherently associated with childhood (and I don’t think appreciation of the nostalgic elements of weirdcore is inherently childlike), I realized I felt comfortable with coining an equivalent “weirdplay”.

to me, the difference is that weirdreg is when I’m coping on my own and Ford isn’t really involved past observing me, whereas weirdplay is where Ford is involved as a kind of guiding and comforting figure because then its something that two [perceived] people are doing.

diverse hull forms populate the pancosmos (multiverse), from the more "practical" torchships of near-mundane space to baroque vehicles special-tooled to traverse various flavors of weirdspace, where wildly alternate physics abound and magic bears a much tighter grip on the everyday rules of reality. near-mundane ships aren't without their share of interesting developments and aesthetic flair, like the "lopsided sailboat" configuration of modern battlestars like the Type 230-A that presents a full broadside to the enemy while protecting the ship's squishy parts. straightforwardly aesthetic commuter boats and jump-yachts like Divine hallmark an economy of cheap starfaring. Escher Ships meanwhile form part of a pantheon of mysterious sightings and sensor signatures nourishing a burgeoning modern UFO culture. appearing relatively normal from afar, up close they resolve into nonsense geometry and impossible angles - fueling speculation that they are operated by beings from radically different forms of spacetime, ranging from alternate types of manifold where distances work differently to entirely topological forms of space where the concept of distance as we know it is altogether invalid.

Oh also Ford and I tried weirdplay/weirdreg yesterday!

We weren't really sure if it was weirdplay or weirdreg because the vibe shifted a couple of times but we tried it!

It didn't go as well as I could have because it was kind of last-ditch effort to deal with some bad intrusive thoughts I was having and Ford thought that maybe putting me in weirdspace would help.

It helped, not COMPLETELY, but the thoughts were abnormally bad and we were able to keep me distracted from them at least!

Standard Candles, the world most of my OCs inhabit, takes place in the infinite multiverse where any story can happen. in it, lost things and beings from across existence tend to become stranded and accumulate, and have to figure out how to get their bearings and scrape by amid cyber-witch smugglers, magic alien plushie knights from a planet shaped like a cone, and the augmented desk plant who works retail - all against the backdrop of a 3000 year old ultra-magitech civilization constantly sending forth explorers and contractors across the multiverse, trawling the depths of hyperspace and beyond for new items of power and beings of interest.

an enormous spectrum of physical laws (and magic systems) pervade the multiverse, ranging from "normal" cosmoi (universes) not unlike our own, to "weirdspace" worlds with habitable but odd physics like floating islands instead of planets, to even more abstract cosmoi saturated with alien forms and machinery mysterious in function to those who stumble upon them, to spirit worlds shaped by the shadows of the material realm and the after-echoes of the psyche.

Known Space teems with all walks of life from all walks of reality - explorers seeking out strange new worlds, interstellar mining lawyers who also happen to be lizard plushies woven from magic thread in an alternate history, psychic cowgirls who dive into the dreams of cybernetic forests, fluffy alien squid girls who also happen to be war journalists, bird gangsters for the space yakuza, and starship trailer park witches struggling under the dark pact called student debt, among countless other sorts. it's a magical cyberpunk space opera where the lives of ordinary people are shot through with the fantastical even when they're very mundane, and a setting where any crossover is possible.
