Ook de PO-raad (de organisatie die zich voor het basisonderwijs inzet) gaat uit van de heft aan verouderde schoolgebouwen, wat neerkomt op ruim 4600 basis- en middelbare scholen. Gezondheid Het gaat hierbij vooral om gebouwen met vocht, tocht, schimmel en te weinig frisse lucht die niet meer aan de huidige duurzaamheids-, ventilatie- en gezondheidseisen voldoen. "Die ongezonde scholen gaan ten koste van de gezondheid van leraren en leerlingen", stelt Ruben Heezen van Bouwend Nederland. "Het heeft ook echt effect op de leerprestaties." PO-raad Voorzitter Freddy Weima van de PO-raad geeft verder aan dat scholen en gemeenten beiden te weinig geld hebben en er daardoor vaak ruzie ontstaat, mede doordat er decennialang te weinig is geïnvesteerd. Om die reden heeft de PO-raad recent samen met meer dan 20 organisaties, waaronder de VNG, Bouwend Nederland en de VO-raad, een manifest opgesteld waarin ze een dringende oproep doen aan het kabinet om 730 miljoen euro te investeren en roepen ze op tot een gezamenlijk plan voor alle scholen die verouderd zijn.
