for an idol, jimmy is super clumsy. on stage, he’s jumping and spinning around, but the second he’s off the stage he trips over his own feet.

so he’s not that surprised when he trips and falls down the stairs in the mall. luckily, the mall is virtually empty, and there’s only two people who saw. unluckily, those two people are a very pretty redheaded girl and an equally pretty boy with blue hair, and he’s completely embarrassed himself.

…meanwhile, gem and scott are pretty sure that the cute boy they just watched eat shit on the stairs is their favorite idol. the one who’s concert they were literally just buying outfits for.

they help him up, and get his autograph, and freak out over the whole thing when they get to their car. and if jimmy smiles at them a few too many times during the concert, that’s his business.

His business, and theirs. It's impressive how put together Jimmy is on stage - those dance routines are complicated! Maybe he uses up all his coordination on stage, comes off and flops straight down the stairs.

Gem and Scott want to find out. Perhaps spending the money for a meet and greet is in order...

Or hanging around malls to see if there's any Jimmys falling over again.

Happy Anniversary, IDOLiSH7!

Alright! A bunch of stuff got announced to celebrate the series' 8th anniversary today, so lets break down the most important things regarding our favorite group, TRIGGER!

You've probably heard this stuff already but hey. I do what I want and I'm making this post anyway.

First up, let's get all the smaller 8th Anniversary stuff out of the way! Plenty of stuff has been changed and announced to help bring the series into its latest era, and all of it is very exciting!

Special Anniversary visuals by the series' main character designers have been shared and released!

... Also I feel like it's worth noting that Arina-sensei has made it clear that we've reached TRIGGER's numbers in terms of anniversaries, and that reflects in her art. Meaning, maybe it'll reflect in other things too...?!

The game is hosting weekly free 11-pulls which bring back Heavenly Visitor, Wish Voyage, Kiseki, Music in Your Thoughts, and Light Future cards! On top of that, there's a log-in bonus for nanakores and 80 Stellar Stones in total!

The game has been refreshed with a few new features like notifications on screen when you get a message from an idol/manager, more idol storage, and even special voice lines that play before a live, after an auto live finishes, and if you manage to full-combo the song. The "hey, there's an event going on" home screen line has been replaced, too, thank fuck.

A new Namjatown collab has been announced that covers the idol in glowy clothing!

The official website has been completely overhauled including brand-new bios for the idols!

Now, onto the really fun stuff...

Shuffle Units are back!!

As part of the yearly anniversary story, we're finally getting Shuffle Units including Re:vale and ZOOL! As of Producer Letter 26, it's been confirmed that these units will be themed and have special songs for each, but the themes haven't been shared yet! We may have to read the two-part story to find out!

Part 1 will release September 5th, and Part 2 will release September 15th! It won't be voiced, though. Voice acting will come at a later date.

Kuji Memorial Video & Cards!

What's likely the most surprising thing of all for the anniversary is that it's big surprise looks back on all of the dramas IDOLiSH7's cast have starred in over the last seven years - down to releasing an animated memorial video that covers everything from La Danse Macabre to the Last Dimension musical! There's a lot of shots of TRIGGER to spot, so if you haven't seen it yet, go watch it! It's pure emotional eye candy!

On top of that, the yearly revival gacha deals with it, too, featuring special UR cards that focus on specific scenes from Mechanical Lullaby, i7 Police, Hoshimeguri (now known in English as The Stargazer?), Karatoga, La Danse Macabre, Mission (Yamato's movie from Part 3), and BLAST! (Part 5 drama)

The best part is all the old cards, including the same kujis shown here, are in these pulls, too! Best of luck if you try to bring them home!

Producer Letter #26 Takeaways

As is tradition with i7 anniversaries, there's a new Producer Letter that goes over what the current and future plans for the series are that has a few interesting tidbits fans should be aware of! I'll break it down, but if you can, I suggest reading it in your own time.

The team is still figuring out what exactly comes "beyond the period" in terms of the story, so no updates on that just yet.

They're wanting to do another 16 person live, but they're trying to book a "difficult venue" so many fans can see it. Some fans believe this to be a hint that they're trying to book the Tokyo Dome. 😱 But 16 person live isn't an impossibility!

They've implies that they're working out international distribution and screening for the recent movie Beyond the Period! So sit tight if you haven't gotten a hold of it for yourself yet!

That's about it! Pretty damn big anniversary, isn't it?! Let's enjoy it to the fullest and keep supporting TRIGGER and their friends!!

Glad you asked XD And I will take this chance to also bring this full circle and tell you why you will probably see or at least hear him in Deadpool 3.

So, out of all my celebrity crushes, he is both, the most realistic and the most unrealistic at the same time. Like, personality-wise I think we would be a good match but he is also a kpop idol lol

He is a producer, songwriter, and singer. I know, people think kpop is never written by the performer but he made songs live on stream several times, if you are interested you can watch episode 158 of Chan's room for example. (he gets a phone call around 55 mins into the stream with a request from one of his group members XD The subtitles are a bit weird in some parts but in general okay^^)

Already mentioned Chan's room. It's his weekly live stream (usually on Sunday) where he listens to music and talks to the fans for an hours or so. In this gif it's a subset of episodes that I call Chan's actual room lol

Once someone asked for advice on period cramps on stream and he did not embarrass himself with his answer which puts him in like the top 10% of people without a uterus that I know. (Maybe I'm pessimistic but I feel like this half of the reproductive parts is not very well understood by those who don't have them^^;;;;;)

90% of the time his hair is straightened, but he actually has curly hair. (relevant bc most of my celebrity crushes have curly / wavy hair lol) This was his Halloween stream from last year and I adore the curly hair. So yeah it's Bang Chan (Or Christopher Bang). Now, for the one person that is asking themselves why would he be in Deadpool? The short answer is bc he and Ryan are buddies and Chan loves Deadpool. Now how do they even know each other in the first place? This is an interesting story.

One of the themes was "no limit" basically everything goes. They could collab with anyone, remix songs, or some third thing (I know nothing about music) but they could do basically anything they wanted.

Stray Kids have a song called God's Menu which was their first real break in 2020 and propelled them to the next level of popularity. Now, there is this Black Pink song called Ddu Ddu Ddu. Both songs have a part in the chorus that goes "du du du" but at different rhythms and they thought "wouldn't it be funny to make a mash-up?". Black Pink is well know and their songs are popular so why. They made the mash up and it's amazing. This performance is the reason I became a fan btw. I watched Kingdom for one of the other groups that competed - Ateez - but this mash-up is so good it put Stray Kids on my radar.

This performance was very Deadpool-inspired, from the hand draw map to the outfits.

Quick side note: When Chan is talking here, he is talking in English, but because this was Korean tv they used these cards to write subtitles on. however, the first one says something different. It says "JYP 바보 (JYP is an Idiot)" Park Jin-young (JYP) is their boss and founder of their record label they work for lol (I think he resigned as CEO but is still involved with the company)

After the performance, Chan took one of probs, a Deadpool mask, and appeared with it on hos weekly live stream.

Another side note: The live stream is called Chan's room but this is really some sort of play on his name bc "room" in Korean is bang and it's written the same way as his family name. (This doesn't mean that his family name means room bc family names in Korea are almost always based on Chinese symbols and the name is just the phonetic version of that)

The performance doesn’t go unnoticed, Ryan post something under a tweet about it. Some interaction followed - I’m not on twitter so idk what exactly happened here but yeah, - this was the beginning of their bromance. Chan send Ryan a signed album and Ryan sent chan a bottle of (what liquor is he selling?) which is funny bc Chan doesn't drink so it's just there on his desk. In a later stream he opened the bottle and sniffed it. You can imagine the reaction, I don't have to tell you XD Chan also interviewed Ryan when Free Guy was released.

Given that Ryan reblogged a post with Chan gifs recently leads me to think they are still bros and if the opportunity arises they would totally do something together.

This is the reason why so many people, including myself, are convinced the Stray Kids will be on the soundtrack for Deadpool and I wouldn't be surprised if they even have some cameo in the movie in one way or another. It could even just be in some reference only fan will get or one of their songs plays in the background. There are lots of possibilities

One last thing. Maybe you saw the screenshot of Chan from their performance on Kingdom and thought "Man, he don't look like Deadpool." And yes he doesn't. Because Chan wasn't Deadpool. He was.

A/N: Fic 2 of 2! This is the longest fic yet! Took a different approach to writing this one, hopefully it payed off. Let me know if you guys liked it or if I wasted my time with this one lol.

     You had met Duff in a coffee shop in LA. It was crowded and you were lucky enough to snag a chair before the lunch rush. Duff wasn't, and asked you if he could sit at your table.

     You grew up with Guns n Roses, bought his solo album the day it came out when you were just 15, and now listened to Velvet Revolver faithfully. To see your idol, your celebrity crush stand right in front of you holding a cup of coffee and a scone sent you for a loop.

     "Of course," you had said, starry eyed. You were only hoping he was as kind as the interviews made him out to be. Maybe have a conversation with you and be polite for a while before leaving and never seeing each you again. That would be good enough.

     It didn't end with a coffee, it had just begun. He asked for your number, and you stared at him for a moment thinking you had imagined it. That was until he tilted his head a little and looked at you with a nervous expression. He backtracked and you immediately stopped him.

     "No! I mean— yes! Yes, you can absolutely have my number." You scrambled for a pen and paper and ended up scratching your number on a receipt from the record store. You shook so hard you could barely get the numbers down.

     Out of all the record store receipts you've stuffed into your bag, the one you gave Duff Mckagan had to be the one for when you bought Velvet Revolver's 'Contraband.' He didn't say anything, just smiled and promised to call.

     You honestly didn't think he would've. You played it off as just him trying to be nice. It didn't stop you from answering every call you got for the next three days, however, even if you recognized the number as the tax collector you'd normally never answer.

     But then he called.

     "I tried calling sooner, but I kept calling the wrong number. You don't have the most eligible handwriting," he had told you. You laughed but really, you were in shock.

     You set up a date at the fancy restaurant downtown that always intimidated you. You didn't say anything though, even though you knew you wouldn't want any of the overpriced food and you'd end up eating something you couldn't pronounce and was two portions too small. Maybe even hit up a fast food joint afterwards.

     When the day finally came, you couldn't even figure out what to wear. You couldn't tell if you looked underdressed or like you were trying too hard. Did the clothes even fit the right way? What would Duff think? Would he even care?

     All questions were answered when you left your house. Duff was leaning against his slick car parked in your driveway, a button up that was barely buttoned and dress pants with boots. He stared at you and you wanted a hole in the ground to shallow you up until he smiles.

     "You look gorgeous," he said. You blushed and grinned, thanking him before saying that he looked great too. He drove you to the restaurant and on the way, you talked about music.

     You shared some of your favorites, he adored how well rounded you were. You liked pretty much everything from punk rock to the mellowest of mellow. Duff mentioned some of his favorites, some you made sure to remember the names of so you can check them out.

     When the ride was over and you finally got to the restaurant, your previous fears came back. Duff reassured you looked better than 90% of the people there and you knew it wasn't true but it made you feel better anyway.

     Your eyes widened to the size of saucers when you saw the prices of the food. You knew it'd be pricey but you thought there'd be more options that stayed within two digit numbers.

     Duff saw your panicked expression and said not to worry, he'd pay. It didn't settle your nerves enough and when the waiter came, you ordered the cheapest and simplest thing you could find.

     "Chicken noodle soup?" He teased. You shyly looked down and shrugged. "This isn't your scene, is it?"

     "Not exactly, no."

     "Want me to be completely honest with you?" You nodded. "It's not mine either."

     That's all it took for you and Duff to scramble sheepishly out of the restaurant. You both shared a laugh in the car and went to Burger King. It was much more your speed and, as you'd find out that night, Duff's too. You suppose all the money he's had since such a young age didn't completely change his ways. He was like a kid trapped in a 40 year old man's body.

     You'd thought at first the age gap would feel strange, after all, you were 15 years younger than him. But after that night, it was barely noticeable. Funny looks from strangers every once in a while was nothing.

     By the second date, Duff was already aware fancy spots weren't your forte. He told you it was a surprise and to wear something cozy, as LA nights got chilly.

     He packed a picnic basket and drove you out to the most beautiful flower field you had ever seen at sunset. It was secluded and high up, giving a perfect view of the city skyline. After gawking and taking in the sights for a few moments, you regained your ability to speak.

     "It's gorgeous. Pretty far from the city, did you take me here to kill me?" You joked. He laughed and rolled his eyes. His lighthearted laugh sent sparks straight to your heart, and you decided that it was your favorite sound.

     You unfolded the blanket Duff brought and you both sat down. You ate the sandwiches and sliced fruit Duff packed and talked. You talked about everything, from your family to fears and insecurities.

You told him how you suffer from nightmares. Flashbacks from your broken childhood coming back to bite you in your sleep. Duff shared how he's suffered from panic attacks since he was a teenager. You felt you knew each other for years.

Neither of you felt weird for sharing and neither made the other insecure. You were completely open and honest with each other. It was strange, you've never connected to quickly and effortlessly with someone before. Sure, you've had men in your life, but never had you clicked with someone so fast, never had you fit with someone so perfectly.

Hours passed and it felt like minutes. Only did you realize how late and how exhausted you were when you saw most of the city buildings light have gone off for the night. The city that didn't sleep was dark.

"I should get you home," Duff said to you.

"Will you stay the night?" You felt a little silly for asking. Were things going too fast? Would he even want to stay over?

He agreed, and that's how your first night together went. You both stayed up even later and had more lighthearted conversations, unlike the ones that partook at the field. Like how one of Duff's first jobs was at a bakery and could bake a mean cake and how you can't cook to save your life.

You ended up waking up without remembering falling asleep. You're head was placed comfortably on Duff's lap while his head was lolled back against the couch cushion. He looked so serene and peaceful you couldn't help but smile at the sight.

You made toast and somewhat successfully cooked some eggs and bacon. It might have been the first breakfast in years that didn't end with the smoke alarm going off.

Duff eventually wandered into the kitchen and you both ate. By the time he left, another date was already set up. He was like a drug an you were already hooked.

Months later and the addiction still wasn't kicked. You didn't want to, and Duff didn't seem to want you to quit either. You both soaked each other up like the sun on a warm day.

You had almost weekly dates and you stayed over each other's houses almost every other day. Duff did have his kids some days, though, so some days dates were cut short or Grace and Mae slept over his house and you wouldn't see each other.

You were always understanding, his kids came first and you'd never blame or get upset about it. It's something Duff admires about you, your never ending understanding and empathy for him.

One of those days where Duff stayed over at your house started normal. He cooked dinner and you washed the dishes, and then you put on an old Ramones concert you had on DVD.

You were laying on his chest, his fingers running through your hair when all of a sudden, he tensed up. He quickly stood and excused himself to the bathroom. You frowned but before you could think much of it, you heard a loud bang and something clatter to the ground.

You jumped up and rushed to the bathroom. You swung open the door because you were perfectly aware the lock hasn't worked since you moved in.

Duff was sitting on the floor, a pill bottle laying on its side not far from him. You quickly spot the name of the medication and identified it as your anti-anxiety pills. You shoved them aside and sat next to Duff.

He was sweating bullets and his skin felt cold and clammy, his breaths were labored and heartbeat was loud and pounding erratically. You coax him gently to take deep breaths, holding onto his hand tightly and talking quietly.

"I'm sorry, they come on randomly sometimes," he apologized after he'd called down, but you quickly shushed him. You reminded him of just how many nightmares he'd comforted you for and he stops feeling so bad about it.

     It was always a true partnership with Duff. Never had you felt you gave or took too much, it was always equal. Always a two way street, with everything.

That wasn't the last panic attack you had to help him come down from. Later down the line you've gotten better at calming him down and learning his triggers, even though sometimes they really do come on suddenly without reason.

A year into the relationship was when you met Grace and Mae. They were young and didn't completely understand why their parents weren't together anymore, so it took them a while to warm up to you. Luckily, they eventually came around.

Duff and Susan met up regularly to discuss their kids and co-parent properly. And while you had all the reason to be jealous of your boyfriend with his ex wife, you never did. You had complete confidence in him, he was honest and loyal and you doubted he'd ever hurt you purposely.

That's why it destroyed you when he left you. Tears were shed from both parties as he gave his reasons for breaking up with you. His insecurities he tried his best to bury had come to light and nothing could change his mind.

You thought you were completely honest with each other, but you suppose his doubt in his relationship with you was the one thing he kept secret. He had somehow convinced himself you'd be better without him, between the constant touring and the baggage that came with him and his kids, he finally buckled under the weight and stress.

You had tried to convince him that he was worth it, but if Duff is one thing it's stubborn. The best relationship you'd ever have and the best year of your life went down the drain within the matter of one conversation.

You were down in the dumps for days. You barely left your bed and didn't ever leave your house. You were in a depression and couldn't get out. A few of your friends eventually found out what had happened and broke into your house and shoved you into the shower before taking you to your favorite Chinese restaurant.

You felt like a disaster. Your hair was ratted despite the shower and you refused to put real clothes on, instead wearing sweatpants and a shirt Duff had left behind. You were a mess.

The hole in the wall restaurant was never busy but always had the best food. You were almost happy your friends dragged you out of your home until you saw Duff sitting at a table, eating egg rolls and lo mein.

You've came here together all the time. The high sodium in the food always made him sick to his stomach and you'd always end up giving him nausea remedies and tea. He never changed his order though.

You locked eyes with him for a while. Dark bags were under his eyes and he looked more pale than usual. He looked as terrible as you felt. You weren't sure if you were spitefully glad he felt awful or if the despair on his face just made your heart break further.

When you couldn't take his intense jade stare anymore, you looked up at the menu. The next time you looked back he was gone, you weren't sure if he was really there at all or if you were finally losing your mind for good.

     Another week crawled by. You got better enough to continue working. You had to pick up extra time for calling out for a few days after the breakup. You wouldn't say things were going well, but you weren't crying in bed every day all day anymore.

     You had constant dreams about him. Some were nice, ones where he didn't leave and you were together, holding each other tightly. Most were nightmares, flashbacks of when he left. You didn't have him to comfort you anymore when you woke up soaked in sweat and tears, and that might've been the worst.

     Another week went by, and you were starting to get back into the swing of things. You still thought about him, even silly little things reminded you of him. Like when you would catch a sniff of freshly baked sweets like he'd bake you or certain songs playing on the radio. It also didn't help that you ran into people wearing Guns n Roses shirts on the daily.

     You also refused to get rid of anything he'd left behind. Tee shirts, guitar picks he left from when he'd play for you, or CDs from bands he introduced you to. Reminders of what you lost were scattered around your home but you couldn't bring yourself to do anything about it.

     Suddenly, it's been a month. You weren't over him, but you had a feeling you'd never be completely. He was something special, you can't forget things as special as your relationship with Duff.

     His items still weren't thrown out or returned, instead all packed in a box sitting in your closet. But you'd be lying if you said you would never reach into the box to grab a shirt to sleep in or a CD to listen to when you needed a reminder of the good times. You were making progress though.

     You decided to leave your house one evening. You were feeling especially terrible and wanted to take a walk to clear your head. You went to the coffee shop you had first met Duff in. Maybe it was a mistake to go and get a flood of memories but you couldn't stop yourself.

     You sat in a seat near the window and people watched, taking occasional sips of your drink. It was quiet except from the talk of the workers and the hum of the overhead speakers.

     There was a sudden squeak of a chair of hardwood floors and it broke you out of your daze. You snapped your gaze up to meet the very familiar green eyes you've been trying to forget.

     "Can we talk?" He asked, and you couldn't say 'no.' Duff sat across from you and started off by apologizing.

     He said he wanted to talk to you sooner, but was too afraid you wouldn't want anything to do with him. You rolled your eyes at that, if only he knew just how much you missed him.

     He then started from the beginning and explained why he made the decision to leave you. As it turns out, it was mostly because of stress.      After that day, you and Duff started seeing each other again. It wasn't the same as before, but maybe even better.

sinopsis: You are a popular artist in America, pretty famous, loved and well-known by the general public (actually you were one of the top 10 artists in the world but you are pretty humble and naïve to realize your popularity), one day during one of your fan meets you talk about how much you love BTS, and not only how you wish to meet them and work with them but how Jungkook is one of your celebrity crushes. During the meet you fangirled with other ARMYs in the crowd; video clips of you fangirling and talking about BTS at your meet where posted and reposted all over social media. This obviously broke the internet because you were not only a famous singer but you also were always accepted and loved by ARMY and this made a lot of people happy. Suddenly it felt like everyone wanted you to meet the seven handsome and talented idols and collaborate, but you could only wish, you believed they didn't even know who you were...or so you thought.

Pt. 1- Introduction. Your fan meet

Basically every couple of months you like to organize small get-togethers with your supporters as a way to have a closer contact with them, to get to know them, as a fanservice and to just thank them in a way. Lately you have been noticing one specific group of fan pages dedicated to you who have been really interactive and supportive on twitter; 

promoting your latest music video and the recent EPISODE of: y/n’s camera roll uploaded to your oficial platforms (your team uploaded a weekly video=episode to your channel; almost like Run BTS. Each episode had a different theme and your fans loved it)  this group of fan pages is constantly on your main page, so you decided to contact them and fly them out for a day in L.A. for one of your infamous meets so you could meet them.

You don't normally film your fan meetings, they are normally just a one on one gatherings between you and your fans,  but your team thought it could be a good idea to record today’s meet and upload parts of it for your weekly EPISODE, these were greatly appreciated by your international fans and other fans who wanted to see a little more into your personal life.

You were currently hanging out with the small group of fans you invited over. A group of around 10 boys and girls were currently sitting on the fluffy carpeted floor and some were sitting on plush chairs randomly spread in front of you. (a/n i imagine this setting like the Zach Sang Show, for the Ariana Grande interview episodes) 

You were sitting in front of them on a small white couch for two. Once everyone was comfortably settled in, you introduced yourself and invited the others to do so as well, one by one telling you their name, username, pronouns, age, and fun facts about them. You smiled wide, happy to be able to meet such amazing people and also making mental notes to remember their names and facts. 

After the personal introductions your camera crew was set up and ready to start, you told your fans sitting in front of you about how today's meet was going to be recorded and asked for their consent to upload said video; and then proceed to open for the camera; 

“Hello everyone welcome to another episode of…. f** I don't even know what we call these videos, jajajaja” 

Your fans sitting in front of you stated the name of the youtube series in a heartbeat;

“Wait what?... jajajajaja omg guys thank you, I'm so sorry, yeah you heard them, welcome back to y/n’s camera roll, I can’t believe I forgot that, anyway today’s episode is a little different……” you proceed to explain what the episode was about and thanking the future viewers for tuning in and watching the video. “Waw what a long introduction, so, before we actually go on and have the meet while you guys at home enjoy, I want to introduce you to the lovely group of people who I have invited here today….” Again proceed to introduce your fans to the camera by name, trying to not miss anyone and not butcher any name in the process.

After the introduction is done you porcede to carry out the fan meet like you normally do, you normally have scheduled sections of activities during your meets to make them fun; For today’s meet you all played games and did a couple challenges with your fans; then you recorded a couple of tik toks and instagram stories your fans asked you to be in, and casually all hung out. After a while of comfortable chatting and laughter, you wanted to hype up the mood. You turned down the lights, turned on some color  LED lights and had a dance party with everyone invited, dancing and going all out to popular music.

After being all drained from the heavy physical activities, you ordered a variety of food for your fans, like pizza and pasta, sushi, tacos, snacks, etc. and had a muckbang/eating section for the episode as well.

You were having so much fun, you looked around while eating and just by looking at their excited and happy faces you couldn help but feel complete and thankful for all of your fans.

After filling up on food, you carried out the Q&A section of the meet, allowing fans to ask you personal questions and conversing on various topics. The camera director gave you instructions to proceed with the questions, you nodded and thanked him and the staff for their hard work, turning on your heel and sitting back in your spot you tuned to the main camera: “Hi, quick update, sorry I haven't been so interactive with the camera in this episode for everyone watching at home, but I have been having so much fun and I am not used to having a camera crew for my normal fan meets, I’m sorry. Anyway now we will move on, I am going to answer some questions and hopefully this is entertaining enough  for the EPISODE hahaha” the crew and fans present chucked as you finished the small interruption.

And the questions began. A girl sitting in the back, raised her hand and spoke; “yeah um, I’m sorry I wanted to  see if I could start the questions, idk if the others are okay with that”. The rest of the group nodded sweetly at her, others replied with short “yeah’s”. She then proceeded nervously “thankyou g-guys, um I’m sorry before my question, is there anything we cannot ask you or..?

You sweetly smiled at her shyness and consideration, you tried your best to make her comfortable, “You are so cute, hahaha, thankyou for being considerate, but I really can’t think of anything that I am not allowed to answer or talk about, let me ask my manager...do I Sam?” you shifted your upper body to the side where the crew was standing, your manager Sam shook his head, you don't really have any tea to be spilled anyway so he is pretty confident and comfortable allowing you to be 100% in control. 

“Okay if Sam says it’s cool, it's okay  jajaja. You can ask me anything”

The girl then proceeded to ask her question, and waited for you to answer.

Time went by, and it was pretty cool to see what your fans were interested in learning about you, after some time the group continued asking you questions like “who is your biggest inspiration? favorite song?, favorite thing about being on tour? what would you do if you weren't a singer? etc.

One of the boys in the group spoke; “Hi, y/n, can I ask you another question?” you nodded and signaled him to proceed; 

“I saw that you liked an instagram post about BTS a while back uploaded by a fan account and I also saw that you actually follow their personal twitter account. ALSO in your behind the scenes video for your music video shoot you can be seen in the background dancing the Boy with luv choreo. So I wanted to ask if you were an ARMY and if you know them personally? and like should we be expecting a collaboration soon?”

You chucked at his talking speed, curious questions and great detective skills.

 Before you answered you mentally told yourself to hold back and not go all cRAzY fAnGirL on them, you inhaled and answered:

“OMG hahaha I love you so much, what an amazing question, Okay so first off no I don’t know them personally and sadly no plans of collaboration are on sight. Oh wow I have never been asked if I liked BTS before, I’m excited hahaha. Yeah I am an ARMY, I love them so much I am one of their biggest fans, and they are also one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to work ethic and professionalism, listening to them or watching them gives me motivation to keep doing what I love, which is this. 

anyway I am rambling I should stop; you guys can say y/n stop whenever I start rambling okay? hahaha''

The group in front of you laughed and added some extra comments on your response.

After a couple comments back and forth you realized something… and asked out loud, 

“Wait so, how many of you guys here are actually ARMYs?”, 

all of the sudden the 10 fans sitting in front of you raised their hands. 

“So you guys are telling me literally everyone of you is a fellow ARMY and didn't tell me until now?” everyone chuckled and looked around surprises at the coincidence 

You were already feeling shy after talking so much about yourself before so you redirected the activity, “Guys should we actually talk about BTS for a bit? hahaha” you asked your fans

This made a girl raise her hand and ask: “Can I ask you a BTS question then? Okay so, who is your favorite member?

You loved the new conversation topic. You answered truthfully: “Well first off, I don't have a favorite member. I really mean it when I say this. I love them all equally and I love them all as a group. I don’t prefer one over the other or like one better.  I really do support them equally. I mean there is nothing wrong with having a bias, as long as you also respect the other members, hope that all made sense lol” Everyone seemed moved by your support towards them and nodded.

“Y/n so you don’t have a favorite, but do you have a crush on any of them?, like if you could date one of them right now, which one do you pick?” A fan asked.

You looked at her and really thought about how to answer said question in the best way possible; “okay...well...Like I said just to be clear I don't have favorites amongst the group members, but I do have a type…. I consider one of them to be my celebrity crush” you answered, starting out slow and finishing by blurting out the last part.

Your fans in front of you went crazy, they leaned over their seats wanting to feel closer to you and not miss anything you were saying as you took a breath to continue speaking.

“So in that case, if I had to pick someone that I would date in real life...i would say…. Jungkook'' The room was filled with surprised remarks, small comments and squeals.

“Omg guys chill hahaha, breathe, it's just a crush I don’t know him and it's not going to happen. It's just that I find him really attractive and he is my type.”

The fans kept raising their hands to ask you various questions about BTS,

the camera director and manager signaled you to get your attention after you finished answering other questions and told you you only had time for one more question before the fan meet was over.

“Okay guys so apparently we have time for one more question, so make it a good one, it can be about anything, shoot” you said as you leaned over to reach for your water bottle, swung the bottle and pointed to someone on the corner of your eye who seemed to have one last question, as you drank some water they asked: “I have a last BTS question if you don’t mind y/n” 

Still gulping water you moved your hand indicating them that is was okay and to go on,

“okay, um I just thought about this, do you have like a specific fantasy or make up scenario about BTS that you could only dream could come true; like I wish i could walk into a café shop and suddenly meet V, realizing we were reading the same book and covering for hours”

That was such a deep and personal question, you had never once thought anyone would be interested in what your fantasies where; you thought it might be boring for your fans if you went on and on about  stupid make believe scenarios that live in your head rent free. But seeing everyones approving faces over the question and the intrigued eyes they were shooting at you, you spoke: “I love that question, and your scenario is so cute, you should write a tumblr post about it, (a/n wink wink) well yeah I obviously have created fake scenarios in my head about BTS, past crushes, fake arguments even hahaha, there are so many BTS fake scenarios in my head…. hmm oh I know which one, okay so this fantasy of mine is about how I would meet them irl and work with them, I will make it quick”

You kinda chuckled at yourself, playing with the cap on your water bottle, you felt as if you were about to say something really cringy and embarrassing. You took a deep breath and started the narration of the sinopsis of your personal fanfic created by you. 

“Okay so, my literal fantasy is to one day meet them at a talk show, you know how hosts like will surprise their guests with something/someone they like?, I believe Ellen has done it multiple times where she surprised a guest with their idol or celebrity crush, you know?” The group nodded, invested in your fake scenario “Well i would be invited to like the Jimmy Fallon Show, where he would just randomly surprise me with BTS. Then I would be given the opportunity to introduce myself and tell them how much I love and support them. I would also be able to show them my Korean speaking skills, I learned Korean and Spanish back in school and I have never been able to actually use either them, lol, anyway...well after that we would all become really good friends, and we would collaborate and put out one or multiple songs for you guys. I mean that's basically it, I wish I could meet them, and become their friend and write songs with them, even produce songs with Suga or RM if I could'' you sighed as you ended your mini narration.

You continued; “But well, that's just a fake scenario I repeat, it's not real and it's not gonna happen, EVER. For now I will keep supporting and loving them with you and the rest of ARMY. I really doubt they even know who I am, anyway” you closed the conversation at that. Your fans seemed like they wanted to say something but your camera director called you over before anyone could say something else. You excuse yourself and walk over to the cameras and lights set up where the staff is.

*your fans were really confused, and this you didn't know, but your fans knew for a fact that BTS knew very well who you were. The fans even knew which member has continuously admitted to having a platonic crush on you for years now, ever since you first blew up, back when you were 16 and he was 17. Your fans knew how you are one of BTS’s favorite artists, and this was no secret, you could literally look all this information up... 

They didn’t understand how you could have no idea how famous you actually are* They talked amongst themselves about this while you talked to your team.

Your manager and camera director indicated you to do an outro for the video’s footage and other instructions. You nodded your head and smiled, you took a step back and bowed your head towards the staff behind the cameras and thanked them for their work.

You then walked towards the group of fans and told them you had to do an outro for the camera if that was okay with them; you then sat with them on the floor while side hugging the two fans next to you, you directed yourself to the camera:  “Okay guys so sadly today’s meet is now over, I am really sad I wish we could hang out for longer, thank you so much for coming and making today so fun and special” you then turned to the camera “And for my other amazing supporters who are going to watch this on youtube, today was just a little scoop into my life like the other y/n’s camera roll EPISODES, in case you are interested in other videos like this one you can visit head to the channel where this video was uploaded and watch more! hopefully you guys had fun with us! I adore you all, thank you! Please Spread love always, y/n out” you waved as the camera director said “CUT” and the crew cut the cameras.

Your manager then stood up and directed everyone to get ready to leave, also thanking them for always supporting you and taking care of you, you smiled at your amazing manager and looked back at your fans while they picked up their stuff, smiling sadly.

You said your goodbye to everyone one-by-one as they headed out.

After lots of farewell hugs, kisses, selfies, and gifts, you went home with a smile on your face for the amazing time you had.

You went to bed, turned your phone on silent mode and looked at your ceiling,  reliving that fake scenario you talked about a few hours ago, oh how you wished it could become real (a/n hehe wink wink). Finally dozing off and resting for the work-packed day you had tomorrow unaware that your social media was currently going crazy and how they yearned for your new weekly EPISODE to come out.

Demi Lovato Growing up in the spotlight is no easy task for anyone. Demi Lovato has dealt with body-shamers since her days as a Disney star and still faces unwanted comments about the way she looks regularly. Most recently, people came after the singer for supposedly gaining weight while in rehab and used a paparazzi photo to tear the singer apart. Thankfully, Lovato isn’t afraid to stand up for herself and has a history of taking people down when they make negative comments. Selena Gomez Like Lovato, Selena Gomez grew up in the spotlight and has subsequently suffered years of body shaming at the hands of "fans" and haters alike. In 2015, the actress and singer opened up about how she sought therapy after being body-shamed publicly. Most recently, Gomez clapped back at fans who commented on a photo of her wearing a bikini on Instagram. Jennifer Aniston Jennifer Aniston has also experienced some body-shaming. The former Friends actress once wrote an empowering essay for HuffPost in 2016 about being “fed up” over ridiculous rumors and unwarranted comments about her body. During this time, gossip magazines were speculating that Aniston was pregnant because her stomach "looked bloated" in a few photos. The actress set the record straight while simultaneously destroying the idea that people’s bodies are something that should be critiqued. Tyra Banks “Kiss my fat ass.” That’s the iconic and unforgettable response that queen Tyra Banks had for body-shamers in 2007 after tabloids captioned a photo of her in her swimsuit with cruel phrases, and it seems she's sticking with it. Kelly Clarkson Kelly Clarkson has dealt with body-shamers, as well. In 2017, a Twitter troll tweeted that the American Idol winner was fat. Clarkson responded, “...and still fucking awesome,” proving she is not here for any type of comments on her body. This wasn't Clarkson's first troll, either. In 2015, British media personality Katie Hopkins had the nerve to comment that Clarkson had gained weight, to which she responded by saying this wasn’t the first time she’s been attacked for the way she looks. Clarkson also said she’d rather have wine than waste any time thinking about shamers. Same, girl. Adele Adele has faced years of disgusting comments about her body since her intro to stardom in 2006. Nevertheless, the clap-back queen makes sure to shut down instances of body-shaming immediately. But that doesn’t mean words don’t hurt. In a 2015 interview, Adele mentioned that while she does sometimes

struggle with her body image, she tries not to let it rule her life. America Ferrera For her 33rd birthday, America Ferrera wrote a letter to her body. She shared the body-positive message on Instagram, saying she’s finally learned to love her body after years of harboring feelings of negativity towards it. However, people are still commenting on Ferrera’s body. In fact, Ferrera has famously said that she didn’t know she was ugly or fat until she starred in the show Ugly Betty, which says a lot about the way people treat public figures. Chrissy Teigen Twitter phenomenon and multitalented model Chrissy Teigen has often been the subject of judgmental comments. In fact, Teigen was body-shamed at the 2018 Emmy Awards, with trolls talking about her weight post-pregnancy with son Miles. Teigen sarcastically responded to the trolls in her typical hilarious tone by showing them she has no time to be shamed for her body. Lady Gaga Body-shamers have come after Mother Monster, too. Lady Gaga, who has been open about her struggle with chronic illness, has had her image picked apart since appearing on the scene with her 2008 hit “Just Dance.” Trolls also had something to say after her 2017 Super Bowl halftime performance. Of course, the ever-busy superstar didn’t have time for such nonsense and quickly responded that she loves her body. Alicia Silverstone Clueless star Alicia Silverstone saw her career take off in the '90s, but stardom didn’t come without a slew of critics picking apart the actor's appearance. When it was announced that Silverstone would play Batgirl in the then-upcoming film Batman & Robin, the actress was met with an onslaught of hateful comments about her body. In an Entertainment Weekly article from 1996, it’s noted that fashion critics said Silverstone looked “more Babe than babe,” referring to the fictional pig. The actor later recalled that paparazzi chased her down in an airport chanting “fat girl” to the Batman theme song. Rihanna Rihanna has also been attacked for the way her body looks. After her 2018 Grammy performance (which she slayed, by the way), trolls came after Rihanna for her apparent weight gain, speculating that the singer might be pregnant. This isn’t even the first time Rihanna has faced such criticism. In 2017, the Fenty Beauty founder shut haters down with a Gucci Mane meme (in which she showed two photos of rapper Gucci Mane, from 2007 and 2017, and captioned the meme "If you can’t handle me at my 2007 Gucci Mane, you don’t deserve me at my 2017 Gucci Mane"), proving that body-shaming her or anyone else will not be tolerated. Serena Williams Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Yet the 23-time Grand Slam champion has had her body scrutinized countless times for being "too muscular." Although the tennis champion says such comments have hurt her feelings, she also says that she's now more confident than ever about her body and calls it her “weapon.” Jennifer Lawrence Jennifer Lawrence says that when she was beginning her career, people in the film industry shamed her for "being fat.” According to the actor, she was once told she would be fired if she didn’t lose weight. Kate Winslet Before she landed her lead role in Titanic, Kate Winslet says the kids at her school would bully her for the way she looked. The actor opened up about being body-shamed by her fellow classmates, who called her “blubber” and told her she was too ugly to be an actress. However, Winslet never gave up on her dreams and has since spoken out against body-shaming, saying that she had to ignore the negative comments to be the person she is today. Drew Barrymore The lovable Drew Barrymore faced her own harassment in the '90s over the way her body looked onscreen. During this time, Barrymore often had her “baby fat” criticized in reviews. In a 2010 interview, the actor says she was often bullied for her weight when she was younger. More recently, the actress has had to refute pregnancy rumors over the way her stomach looks on TV. Since gaining weight for her role in the early-2000s film Bridget Jones's Diary, Zellweger’s weight has been a subject of contention for body-shamers everywhere. The actress wrote an article for HuffPost in 2016 after people commented on her rumored cosmetic surgery, proving once and for all that her body isn’t for public consumption or criticism.

Chapter 43: A Decision is Made

He escorted you down to the conference room where the First Order High Command had gathered, or rather all present persons had gathered and any others appeared as hologram projections.

He sat you down in a chair at the middle of the table. Allegiant General Hux was to your right and General Parnadee to your left, Admiral Griss faced her and General Pryde faced Hux. The chair opposite of you was empty, you knew that it was to be Kylo’s chair that he never seemed to use. “Lady Ren and myself will be leaving Earth in two days. I am sure you are all wondering what will be done. The Finalizer will be stationed here until a proper base can be built,” said Kylo, his mask distorting his voice.

Heads around the room nodded in acknowledgment and agreement.

“I also know many of you are eager to hear who will be left in charge of the planet.” As he said this many of the generals and admirals had looks of excitement in their eyes. “I have made an agreement with Lady Ren, she is the one who will make the decision as to who will be left in charge. She will give us her decision now.”

You knew he knew that you had yet to make a decision on what you had only discussed hours ago. You only knew a few of the faces in the room, this was something he knew too. He wanted the upper hand in the relationship, all of the power and control.

You needed to play your hand right, to gain some semblance of power, of control. You acted quickly hoping your brain would make the right decision. You turned to your right, “Allegiant General Hux, I value your opinion on this matter. How well would you recommend General Parnadee?”

You saw Kylo’s head shift, questioning you, even though you knew he could see into your mind you were acting on impulse. Something you weren’t thinking about too much ahead of time. And it was throwing him for a loop.

“General Bellava Parnadee is a good candidate m’lady. She received exemplary marks when she was in the Academy. She also has been highly admired by subordinates and peers. After the fall of Hosnian Prime, she focused on the occupation of contested worlds and directed ground forces on Torost, Odynnia Gavo and the planet Kijimi. Her input is invaluable as she has an avid love of history, but instead of admiring the past she learns from it, builds from it. I believe she would be most excellent in guiding your home planet to be a model for the First Order and the rest of the galaxy,” said Hux.

You could see the woman in question sitting next to swell in pride at the compliments from the allegiant general and from the honor of being a candidate. You could also see Pryde’s jaw twitch at the allegiant general’s words. Especially the part about learning from history and not idolizing it.

You turned to her, “I am willing to offer you the position only if you agree to weekly debriefings with me, however that may need to work. And you will take my advice and input. Do you accept the position General Parnadee?”

“I would be honored to m’lady. I now recognize this as your home planet, it is one of the most valuable resources the First Order has and I will treat it with respect,” she responded.

Although you had your disagreement with her earlier, over the treatment of your people, you trusted Hux. You also knew you could stand up to her when it was needed. And honestly, you knew that an admiral was in charge of ships and a general was in charge of ground forces, mostly. So you had a very limited choice in who you could choose. And as much as you wanted to be as far away from the unpleasant gaze of General Pryde, you knew you could not leave him in charge of your home.

“Congratulations General Parnadee,” said Kylo. The room was still, you had no idea how he would react to this decision, and it seemed that no one else did either. You wondered if he could see that you still tried to hold some of the cards, some of the power. “We will be heading back to the Supremacy which will be docked outside Mars for a few more days, as we are finalizing permanent mining operations there. Once we are finished there we will be going on a mission that I have planned, those who need to know will know. But if done correctly we will be able to increase the size of our military ten-fold.”

There was a murmur of excitement throughout the room. A positive energy for once.

“That is all, Allegiant General I have some matters to discuss with you.” With that everyone filled out of the room.

Parnadee thanked you again. You could feel General Pryde’s eyes rake over you before he left, it sent the most unpleasant shivers down your spine. You remained in your seat knowing that you were only allowed to leave when Kylo allowed it.

“You will continue educating Lady Ren. But see to it that you find a way to keep a close watch on Pryde. I do not want him on board the Supremacy but I do not want him attempting anything,” you heard Kylo telling Hux.

“Yes, Supreme Leader. Did you think about my recommendation for Lady Ren?”

“I believe you are correct,” he then turned to you. “You will have two ladies-in-waiting joining us on board the Supremacy. One will be your choice, one will be mine. They will keep you company and keep you occupied when neither the general or I will be around. You will receive more when you become empress, but for now, the two will do. I expect you to make a decision by tomorrow morning.”

Two ladies-in-waiting? You needed to pick someone to trap in your cage with you. Could you be so cruel to someone who already had their own freedom? No one came to mind when you initially thought of it, maybe you would need to ask for help, but not from Kylo. You know this was just him throwing you another bone.

Kylo and the general continued discussing matters you had no interest in, you zoned out. You had no idea how long you were out of it before Kylo pulled you up and guided you back to your chambers. Chambers that were now guarded by two knights right outside the door. Your guarded cage.

You were there for dinner, which was quiet. Neither of you speak, or rather want to speak. You tried to keep any thoughts you had buried deep down, tried to keep your mind from wandering to things he wouldn’t approve of. After dinner, you both headed to the living room, where he pulled you down onto his lap, his heavy arms trapping you against him.

He groaned at the pressure of you on him. His lips found your neck as he turned on the big projector screen, the same one Hux had used during your tutoring session, but this time it was some weird First Order children’s show and not some boring etiquette video.

You weren’t at all interested in the show, but anytime your eyes shifted away for too long he snapped his fingers and pointed to the screen. But he was also distracting you with his lips and the fingers that kept exploring your sides. Eventually one of his hands came to rest on your heat once more, this time pushing your underwear aside and letting his fingers roam free. You were frozen but just as he tried to tease the tip of his finger into your entrance you cried out, “no!”

His fingers backed away but still tried to roam, so you caught his wrist in your hand, “no.”

He scoffed and brought his fingers to his lips, tasting the wetness that had seeped out of you, “mmm better than I could have imagined.” His other hand came up to squeeze your breast while the other one moved back down to squeeze your ass. “Why deny something that you want?” His voice dripped in sensuality, low and velvety.

A moan escaped your lips, again only a small part of your brain was screaming for him to stop, the rest of your body betraying you. Before you could answer one of his hands, grab yours and pull it behind you to feel his crotch, you could feel his hardness beneath you. “Do you feel what you do to me?”

“Yes,” you called out. Your heartbeat was in your ears. You couldn’t really even breathe. All he seemed to want to do was to set fire to your nerves. “I want to wait.”

“When? When will I fully have you?” he breathed into the crook of your neck, grinding your hand harder down onto himself.

That small bit of rational brain had a thought and it ran like wildfire. ��When I become empress, on that first night.” Your breathing hitched. “A celebration, for both of us.”

He groaned in frustration as he bucked up into your hand, into your ass. He then bit down rather hard on your shoulder, “As you wish Kitten.” His hand then squeezed your breast hard once more before picking you up and carrying you up the stairs.

He set you down in front of the closet that held your sleep clothes. You grabbed what you needed to get ready and headed to the bathroom where Kylo trapped you in the doorway. “No misbehaving.” He then hooked his hand under your chin and came down with a crashing kiss before letting you go.

The door shut and you felt as if it was the first time you have had a chance to breathe all day. You quickly took a shower and got ready for bed. You noticed your neck was now littered with dark lovebites. You left the bathroom and your body was immediately pulled into his, his lips crashing onto yours. He sucked and bit on your bottom lip asking for entrance which you granted. He pulled you down on top of him on the bed.

His hands trailed down your back and squeezed your ass. This caused you to straddle him. He groaned into your mouth as he rolled his pelvis into yours. You pushed yourself up onto your elbows breaking the kiss. He looked up at you, “Does Kitten not want to play,” he teased.

“Kitten would like to sleep,” you referred to yourself in the third person and used his nickname for you. You crawled to the left side of the bed and lay on your side with your back to Kylo, who crawled up to spoon you.

As he started to grind into you once more he said into your hair, “Mmm I can’t wait to get my kitten to purr.” This was the last thing you heard before you drifted off to sleep.

Your dreams were filled with the kinder man you had first met. You dreamed of him saving you from a high tower off a cliffside with waves crashing at the bottom. He was still a knight, but this time classically dressed in armor. He rode a beautiful white steed and he seemed happy. He saved you after slaying an awful black dragon, that spit red fire and had yellow eyes. It was the largest dragon you had ever seen, a legend in your dream world. In the end, you rode off into the sunset with him to a beautiful castle filled with light. Every fiber of your being wished this dream, this fairytale would come true.

Sadly it looked like you were not going to get your prince charming as you were still trapped with the dragon, that hoarded your beauty and happiness like gold.

Faye Wong’s 18 best songs (2020)

from Cantopop to grunge, Chungking Express to Final Fantasy VIII – Hong Kong’s ultimate 90s diva

From her Chinese-language covers of The Cranberries, Tori Amos and Cocteau Twins to her iconic statement album Di-Dar, Pledge and 100,000 Whys, Faye Wong left an enduring mark on the Asian music scene – from alternative Western styles to big balling ballads, and embracing Cantonese before returning to her native Mandarin

Faye Wong was the ultimate Hong Kong diva of the 1990s. Her nightingale voice, artistic persistence, indifference to fame and unmistakable style made her one of the city’s most singular celebrities.

While most of us might know her for that cover of The Cranberries’ Dreams, or providing the vocals to Eyes On Me, the ending theme song for Final Fantasy VIII , Wong didn’t hit the big time until her fourth studio album “Coming Home”. After a modelling stint and coming third in a singing competition, Wong had been signed by Cinepoly and came under the tutelage of Tai See-chung, who also trained Hong Kong megastars such as Anita Mui, Aaron Kwok, Andy Lau and Leon Lai.

Her original name Wang Fei was considered too mainland-sounding for the Hong Kong market and her record label gave her the name Shirley Wong. However, given the mediocre success of her first three albums, she was sent to New York to undertake vocal training and as a cultural exchange. It was in the Big Apple where the artist found herself, saying in an interview:

“I wandered around, visited museums and sat at cafes. There were so many strange, confident-looking people. They didn't care what other people thought of them. I felt I was originally like that too, independent and a little rebellious. But in Hong Kong I lost myself. I was shaped by others and became like a machine, a dress hanger. I had no personality and no sense of direction.”

It was this realisation that led to her becoming the idol that she is today, a performer who gradually transitioned from Cantopop love ballads to composing alternative tunes for her own albums. While she has taken a step back from the limelight since her second marriage in 2005, here are our favourite songs by the Cantopop queen turned alternative musician.

Vulnerable Woman

In 1992, Greed of Man was TVB’s big budget show of the year and is still lauded as one of the network’s best dramas. Faye Wong’s Vulnerable Woman was the music played when the heroine tragically died. The song immortalised the scene in the hearts of viewers all over Hong Kong.

No Regrets

“No Regrets” was the follow up album to “Coming Home” and it didn’t disappoint. The eponymous single was a huge hit.

Monsoon

Another hit from the “No Regrets” album. A mellow Cantopop number that resounded in the halls of karaoke lounges for years to come.

Summer of Love

“100,000 Whys” is the album where many see Wong coming into her own. Shedding her stage name Shirley, Wong went back to using her given name – Wang Fei – in Chinese and changed her English name to Faye. Her album brought grunge to the Hong Kong public’s consciousness as well as adopting other bold style experiments of the time. Summer of Love was a small step away from the string of ballads she was known for and appealed to her younger fans.

Cold War

A cover of Tori Amos’ Silence of the Year with lyrics beautifully adapted by Albert Leung. Amos’ vocals weren’t easy to replicate and Wong was able to apply her style while staying true to the original.

Pledge

The Beatles’ “White Album” was considered to one of their best as well as being one of their more experimental. For Wong’s fans, her choice to issue the “Random Thoughts” album in white with the words embossed in cream, came to feel similarly pivotal. Covering two songs by the Cocteau Twins, this album was Wong’s first move into alternative rock. Pledge is the first song she wrote alongside her then partner and eventual husband Dou Wei and was the first original Mandarin song to be featured on tracklists.

Dream Lover

Wong’s cover of The Cranberries’ Dream is a landmark due to the fact that she adapted lead singer Dolores O'Riordan’s vocal style of keening and yodelling thereafter. The song was featured in Wong Kar-wai’s much acclaimed feature film, Chungking Express, which Wong also starred in, catapulting her into the international spotlight.

Sleepwalk

This song showcased Faye Wong growing into her adopted style, using a slight yodel in the intro to this original score by C.Y. Kong.

Honeymoon

The next album, “Please Myself”, while not as much of a commercial success as “Random Thoughts”, included this hit single, and also the title track and Exit on the tracklist, all self-penned by Wong.

Angel

The year 1994 was a prolific one for Wong as not only did she release two Cantonese albums but a Mandarin one as well, with translated works and a few original scores. Angel continued Wong’s experiment with alternative music and was also the theme song of the fantasy film, Mermaid Got Married.

Brink of Love and Pain

The ballad that anchored the “Please Myself” album was one of the last conventional Cantopop songs by the pop diva and began the divide between her own musical style, and commercial and mainstream tastes.

Di-Dar

Di-Dar was featured number 27 in Ming Pao Weekly's list of “40 Classic Cantopop Albums of the Last 40 Years” in 2008. Music journalist Fung Lai-chee described it as “the best psychedelic and bestselling avant-garde work in Cantopop, with songs that are self-centred, ignoring [the] market and others' work.”

Ambiguous

This ballad was written to appeal to the mass market and is a favourite among Wong’s fans.

Anxiety

Considered one of the riskiest albums of Wong’s to date, this album falls squarely in the alternative category. Many of the songs didn’t include proper lyrics – a cardinal sin in the age of karaoke – and it wasn’t well-received by the mainstream market at the time. However this album scores high in listenability and deserves more of an audience.

Eyes on Me

It was a matter of national pride when Wong provided the vocals for the ending theme for arguably one of the most popular RPG games of the 1990s, Final Fantasy VIII. It was the era just before streaming took off and YouTube even existed so scores of fans forged ahead to finish the game, solely to arrive at the end credits to hear the song.

The “Lovers & Strangers” album was one of Wong’s bestselling albums and after its release in 1999, Guinness World Records declared Faye Wong the best selling female Cantopop artist of all time. It was also the beginning of Wong’s departure from prioritising the Hong Kong market and releasing more and more songs in Mandarin, her mother tongue.

Wong established herself more clearly as a songwriter by penning five of the songs on the tracklist of the “Fable” album. Her singing style had matured and moulded itself to her style of songwriting while she pushed at the boundaries of popular music.

“To Love”, released in 2003. was the last of Wong’s studio albums to date and Withered Flower the last Cantonese song she has presented to her Hong Kong fans.

“Utakata Saturday Night!”

For all that Morning Musume have engaged with disco tropes throughout their history, they haven’t made a song explicitly about going out as a way of life like they do in “Utakata Saturday Night!” Love, romance and dancing have all been central themes to their life as it unfolds in their music -- what is not “Love Machine” but the grand celebration of those things? -- but the group haven’t exactly been dependent on dance music to explore these themes. They assume the role of weekend warriors in “Utakata” almost as a response to the song’s boogie pop. Other music such as, say, the stoic R&B of the Platinum era doesn’t sound quite right as the backdrop.

The weekend as a theme sounds refreshing especially since Morning Musume have been busy contemplating about personal matters to step outside their own restless mind. That said, instead of treating the song like a low-stakes getaway from their usual gig, they take advantage of the opportunity to show off a different, unseen side of them like they’ve done recently in “Sukatto My Heart.” The idols even seem self-aware that they hardly have came across as the going-out type, but here, they dispel that notion outright to prove that they, too, know how to have fun: “Listen, I’m actually more amazing than you think,” they sing, insisting the weekend reveals an entirely different character.

Written by Maisa Tsuno of rock band Akai Kouen, the hooks of “Utakata Saturday Night!” lives up to the fun the rest of the song preaches about. Utakata is an idiom to describe the ephemeral, quick and easy to dissolve like a bubble, and utakata as a word also simply has a goofy ring to it. The back vocals emphasize it more as a fun nonsensical hook that you might find in recent Red Velvet releases like “Umpah Umpah.” The group really lets loose in the chorus, and the boogie-ready production of longtime arranger Shunsuke Suzuki further encourages them to tap into their titular metaphor and flex a you-only-live-once attitude towards their night out.

Morning Musume also throws the genre-emblematic catchphrase of “Saturday Night” as the song’s main refrain. The hook alone feels very obvious in its disco-ness to a fault, making the song come off like a work of an amateur who’s more performing the idea of disco rather than the actual thing. However, the almost-meta bridge later redeems it by adding this winking feel to the song. “Did you know, in 58 seconds, this song is about to end,” asks Kanon Suzuki, who’s portrayed as the DJ who announces the last call in the music video. The group plays squarely into conventions, but they also freely break the fourth wall to show their grasp of the genre. 

As much fun as they have, Morning Musume understand dancing should be more for than just dancing’s sake in order to sing a great disco single. “Every day, a life on the edge/ forget it and remember,” they sing in the second chorus. They frame the dance floor as a place to relieve stress and rid all your problems; dancing as the act to fully realize yourself only for a moment. The discotheque as a platform of liberation -- it’s a classic disco idea that they reiterate in “Utakata Saturday Night!”

[!!!] NU’EST’s Ren, Han Hye Jin, Jun Jin, And More To Star In JTBC Variety Show About Pushovers

A new variety show is coming to JTBC!

“The Fool’s Chart” (literal title) is a show that releases weekly charts that are only compiled from the perspective of people who are pushover-types. From the “Fool’s Alert List,” for those who don’t want to be pushovers anymore, to the “List of Sensible Living for Fools,” for those who are not afraid to be a pushover for self-satisfaction, there will be entertaining discussions and fierce competition under the theme of the various charts.

The celebrities who will host the new variety show are Han Hye Jin, Shinhwa’s Jun Jin, NU’EST’s Ren, Jang Sung Kyu, and Jung Hyuk. Top model Han Hye Jin is an icon of self-management but is subtly clumsy and gullible, Jun Jin is brimming with both competitiveness and curiosity, and Ren is known as the “power passionate guy” in his group. Jang Sung Kyu is a TV personality rising in popularity while model Jung Hyuk shows unexpected clumsiness behind his charming appearance.

“The Fool’s Chart” will deal with a variety of topics, such as shopping, dieting, and human relationships, and the charts will be organized from first place to 10th place through research on men and women in their 20s and 40s. The five hosts will conduct discussions based on various clues and match the rankings through fun competitions.

In the show’s first teaser, the cast members gather around for a meal and joke around while the show pinpoints each member’s characteristics. Jang Hye Jin’s characteristic is to frequently get angry while Jang Sung Kyu is the type to easily get teased by others. Jun Jin is hilariously described as an “ancient idol” while Jang Hyuk is described as the type to say everything on his mind despite saying he’s afraid of the others. As for the maknae Ren, the cast members comment on how he’s like a baby. The teaser ends with the question, “So what are these fools doing?”

“The Fool’s Chart” will premiere on September 2 at 8 p.m. KST.
