This week felt never-ending, but I’m glad you made it through. I’m glad you did. Maybe things didn’t go as planned, but you still made it. I hope that you can allow yourself to rest this weekend, even if you you feel like you didn’t do your best. You don’t have to earn rest by pushing yourself to breaking point every single day. It’s okay if you’re so tired you don’t want to go out this weekend, if you really need a break, please take, please rest as much as you, take things slow and be gentle with yourself when you’re running low on energy. You don’t have to burn yourself out to prove that you need to rest. It’s okay to just be tired and to want some peace of mind, and I hope you can find a little of it this weekend.

Ok so a while back I had a conversation with my friend's aunt. She's a trans woman well into her 50, who has kids and grandkids, and she came out when she was in her 40's. Me and my friends were talking about our queer space, and mentioned the well known "token cishet man"
Now, I'm sure most of us have that guy in our friend group, and it was common for us to just call him the straight guy. But my friend's aunt offered a different perspective ; she once was that token cishet man in a queer group of friends. Getting categorized so strongly as "the cis straight guy" made it harder for her to come out and accept herself. Since that talk with her, I've been careful about it, and guess what? Two women I've once called "the straightest person I know" (different occasions, and it was high school) now have girlfriends! You literally cannot know if someone is queer, and honestly most people are not the straight cisest person out there.
Anyways I'm not very articulate and English is not my friend but like I think everyone would benefit from being a little more careful about the way we treat our "token straight guy", she might be thankful later!

every time you think "wow I look kind of gross and dead inside maybe I should shave/fix my hair/buy more expensive shoes" as a woman just remind yourself there's a dyke out there who will find the unkempt exhausted vibe you are putting into the world extremely attractive and flattering

persuasion is really so much more technically and texturally rich when it comes to class and gender and the gnawing specter of colonialism than i expected. colonial plunder and the port outposts that enable it directly animate the displacement of the old older! in particular it put me in the mind of dh lawrence's very english fascist inclinations in lady chatterley's lover. austen can't really be a fascist and her humanist sensibilities remain to make fun of the old order tbc. but it was fun for me to think through how there was a thoroughline from austen to lawrence — walter elliot's preoccupations with beauty as the novel opens, the descriptions of physicality and how its suited to attitude in the description of mrs. musgrove, the appearance of disability in mr. harville and a wife cast as caretaker and it was even heightened by the descriptions of the tamed and beautiful english countryside.
