“Daddy!” Ellie calls for him, and Buck spins around, smile stretching over his face.

“Ellie!” he calls back, opening his arms and crouching a little so he can catch her when she takes a leap. He spins her around once before he sets her back down onto her feet. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?”

“It was good,” she says, slipping her small hand into his. “But I’m excited to go home.”

“Yeah?” he asks. “Because we’re hanging out with the Diazes?”

She grins up at him. “Yes! And because we’re making lasagna.”

Buck laughs, and, over his shoulder, calls to Eddie and Christopher, “You guys hear that? You’re gonna have to compete with the lasagna for Ellie’s attention.”

“Ohh, lasagna,” Christopher says dreamily, and Buck and Eddie grin at each other.

in a world where buck has a daughter christopher’s age, he first meets eddie at their kids’ school. things progress from there.

The prologue isn't pretty.

Eddie got shot out of the sky. Now he's a machine, keeping people alive. The pilot is going to live. Probably.

"Hold on," Eddie tells him. "Help is on the way. What's your name?"

"Tommy."

"Tell me something about yourself, Tommy." *

Eddie freezes. "Tommy?"

Buck looks between them, frowning. "Wait. You two know each other?"

"You could say that," Tommy says, leaning against the helicopter they will use to save Bobby and Athena.

"It's been a while," Eddie says quietly.

"Yes," Tommy agrees.

A kiss. A night. A goodbye. *

"I don't know where my place is in all of this. I should leave."

"What if we don't want you to leave?"

"Buck ..."

"Stay."

"... Alright."

hen winning the buddie betting pool is the easy choice, but bobby winning is the right choice. hr red flags aside, it would allow for a parallel to 2x01. buck could ask, "you okay with this?" i know tommy is a tertiary character or whatever but after rewatching all the begins i desperately want to hear him talk more about that time at the 118 from his perspective. i want to know if he was afraid! i want to know if he wasn’t! how much did he know about himself by then, an inkling? nothing at all? all of it?? i want to know about his guilt and bridging the gap to friendship and if having made amends back then feels any different now that he isn’t hiding anymore…
