“Daddy!” Ellie calls for him, and Buck spins around, smile stretching over his face.

“Ellie!” he calls back, opening his arms and crouching a little so he can catch her when she takes a leap. He spins her around once before he sets her back down onto her feet. “Hi, sweetheart, how was school?”

“It was good,” she says, slipping her small hand into his. “But I’m excited to go home.”

“Yeah?” he asks. “Because we’re hanging out with the Diazes?”

She grins up at him. “Yes! And because we’re making lasagna.”

Buck laughs, and, over his shoulder, calls to Eddie and Christopher, “You guys hear that? You’re gonna have to compete with the lasagna for Ellie’s attention.”

“Ohh, lasagna,” Christopher says dreamily, and Buck and Eddie grin at each other.

in a world where buck has a daughter christopher’s age, he first meets eddie at their kids’ school. things progress from there.

#i really do keep meaning to write some actual mpreg fic but it keeps getting swept away by other ideas #like the alien invasion fic i'm dying to write #where tommy gets called to fly against them while the lafd is busy on the ground trying to save lives amid the chaos #and they get word that the entire ragtag squadron of which tommy was a part gets wiped out #buck is so devastated he just shuts down and works himself nearly to death trying to save people trying to make tommy's sacrifice worth it #in a week LA is in ruins and the 118 is barely holding on when they get word that another wave of alien ships is headed their way #they know this is it and just as the ships crest the horizon -- there's one ship that suddenly breaks formation and turns on the others #completely stunned the 118 watches as the ship guns down half of the others then leads the rest on a wild chase #and then eddie shouts 'those are american military flight maneuvers! whoever's flying that thing is on our side!'#buck thinks about the first time he visited the harbor station and he'd jokingly asked everyone for dirt on tommy #and tommy's teammate nico was like 'i don't know about dirt but i can tell you right now: that guy can fly literally anything'#buck watches this one ship attempt the impossible while bobby's on the radio telling anyone who might be listening #that one of their own has commandeered an enemy ship and is holding off the next wave and needs immediate support #eventually the ship lands clumsily on a crumbling rooftop and buck runs up a hundred flights of stairs and bursts onto the roof #just in time to see tommy come stumbling out of the ship -- obviously having been through it and like missing an eye or something #and when tommy sees buck his face just crumbles and buck's already sobbing as they limp-run at each other #crashing together crying and laughing and buck slides to the ground clutching tommy while the rest of the 118 pile onto the roof #and they watch a squadron of f-15s descend from the clouds to take out the straggler ships and it feels like the tide is turning #yeah it's basically independence day but with 2000% more angst

hen winning the buddie betting pool is the easy choice, but bobby winning is the right choice. hr red flags aside, it would allow for a parallel to 2x01. buck could ask, "you okay with this?" "well, i did technically hire him to be your partner. i don't have any doubts you two will be great life partners as well."

#911 #eddie diaz #This is what I think Eddie Diaz's class would be in D&D #I really feel like that the Barbarian class fits him the best #I know #Cleric or Paladin would usually fit him best #but with all the rage he had in season 3...#And his tribe would be the 118 #and he really tries to protect them as best as he can #and the ability to sense danger does really makes sense to protect his family #and for the Ancestral Guardian as his primal path is so good #I see the helicopter crew as his spiritual guardians work so well in this class #They were one sort of family who protected his found family at the 118 #Thank you to Clown Car who helped me find the stuff I was missing to make this good! <3<3<3 #This is also for Eddie Diaz week! i know tommy is a tertiary character or whatever but after rewatching all the begins i desperately want to hear him talk more about that time at the 118 from his perspective. i want to know if he was afraid! i want to know if he wasn’t! how much did he know about himself by then, an inkling? nothing at all? all of it?? i want to know about his guilt and bridging the gap to friendship and if having made amends back then feels any different now that he isn’t hiding anymore…

#AND I KNOW WE PROBABLY WONT!! there aren’t enough minutes in an episode and they’re not going to spend development time on #a character who isn’t main cast #but i want to KNOW!!!#they were all friendly by the end of his time at the 118 #he was a lot worse when chimney started #but he does become the first one after eli to get extend an olive branch and bring Chim into the fold #and he makes A comment with hen but even that could be read as a poorly landed joke at east coasters not at hen #especially recontextualizing shots of him when hen takes her stand #like! i want to know! with this new information abt him. what was going thru his head #the quick shots of him looking vaguely shamed and nervous… with new context… MAN #they really struck gold on accident dude i still can’t believe how much shit lined up UNINTENTIONALLY #like. wasn’t the ‘you don’t find it son you make it’ guy named thomas #Buck’s life being defined by multiple gay men named tom #anyways.
