Kristian sets up WeeJohnWondays on his own, without pay, without studio support, arranging guests and navigating both the chat and a discord to find and ask relevant questions. He's absolutely lovely and has even promised that although there's only one week left of the show airing on BBC due to the new double-billed schedule, he's going to have two more weeks of WeeJohnWondays - one with Con and Gypsy and one with David Jenkins.

To thank Kristian for all the hard work he does for WJW, there is a fundraiser going on for Kristian Nairn's charity of choice, TeamHAVEN, which provides meals to folks in need in Northern Ireland. You can find the fundraiser here:

Last year this fundraiser raised a little over £3000. This year the goal is £5000.

TeamHAVEN is a small team tackling a big need in Northern Ireland. Their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/teamhavenbelfast) posts near-daily updates on the folks they serve. Recently they're reporting big crowds in wet, chilly weather. If you read through their updates you can get a sense for how deeply they care about their community. This is a crew for whom even £10 can make a difference.

THIS WEEK, ON WJW

Con chose violence once again by teasing us about Izzy's backstory.

- Izzy's biggest regret was not having let himself fall in love. Seeing Ed and Stede love so fully only made him regret it more.

- Izzy's emerald ring that he keeps on his necktie is related to that love.

- Con had a tattoo put on the inside of his wrist by his stylist in S2. It was a name and it had cut marks over it. We never got to see it.

- We would have that story developed in S3

- The scene where Izzy walks in on Wee John preparing for Calypso's Birthday was much longer. It ended with them both looking at Wee John's mirror and Izzy saying "Make me pretty."

Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death being broadcast in the UK isn’t the only thing happening on Monday. Kristian Nairn aka Wee John will be hosting the first John Wonday on Monday 5 February at 10.30pm GMT.

I saw on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the writers room for OFMD was bad because of the recently revealed scrapped plot lines. I get that you might not like those side stories but they didn’t make it into the show for a reason. Like they were cut for a reason, I don’t know how you can say the writers are bad for NOT going through with plot lines that are bad. I’m not a creative writer but I do academic research and let me tell you I have had horrible ideas that I pursued to scrap later. I imagine it’s the same for creative writing. Sometimes you gotta develop half baked ideas to find out what actually works.

Original script: Wee John was supposed to play cupid cause the crew was so frustrated with the sexual tension between Ed and Stede, so Wee John gave Stede a makeover and then they danced and hooked up
