Thanksgiving
Synopsis: Your family gets a little wild on Thanksgiving and Tyler sneaks you away from the chaos
A/N: this turned out to be funnier than i intended lmaooo and i also couldn’t figure out a good name for this fic so thanksgiving is what we’re going with
Pulling into the driveway, you felt your stomach knot up. You looked at the time being four-thirty and hoped you’d be able to leave by at least six.
Tyler turned the car off and looked over at you. “You’ve been silent the whole ride. You okay?” He asks, and you feel the knots in your stomach get even tighter.
“Yeah, I’m just nervous.” You admitted, clutching the dish you brought sitting in your lap.
“Why?” He asks. “It’s your family. I should be the one that’s nervous.” He chuckles, trying to lighten your mood.
“They just don’t get along when they all get together like this.” You tell him, sighing as you reluctantly unbuckled your seatbelt. “Last Thanksgiving ended in my uncle taking the whole turkey and chucking it across the yard because my cousin said it was dry. All hell broke loose after that.”
“What?” He gaped, clearly trying to stifle his laugh. “That’s crazy.”
“My mom and my aunt ended up throwing their drinks on each other and getting in a whole screaming match about some shit that they’re still mad about from high school too. They’re all crazy. Welcome to my family.” You forced a smile.
You were mainly nervous that Tyler wouldn’t be able to deal with the chaos. It was your first big holiday together and as much as you should’ve been anticipating it, you were dreading it.
His family was nothing like yours. They were crazy, but not in a way that they ended up in fights at the end of every get together. You realized that when he invited you to a summer barbecue at his parents house. They all welcomed you with open arms and joked around with each other all night long.
You’d been terrified for him to come to any holiday with your family ever since.
“Hey” he grabs your hand and gives it a gentle squeeze. “It’s gonna be okay. Okay? If things get crazy tonight, we can just leave.” He shrugs. “But try to enjoy this. I know you love your family and you don’t get to see them much anymore. You should enjoy this time with them.”
You nodded with a smile that was a little less forced and leaned over to place a kiss to his cheek before you both got out the car.
Walking up to the door, you could already hear the chatter coming from inside the house. You opened the door and saw your mom and your aunt first, preparing some dishes in the kitchen. They turned around when they heard the door open.
“Hello!” Your aunt singed, grabbing the dish from your hand and passing it to your mom. She gave you a hug and moved on to Tyler.
“So nice to see you got to come today!” She beamed, giving him a hug next. “We’ve only got to meet one other time.”
“Yes ma’am, i’m glad i was able to make it.” He smiles. You could tell he was a little nervous himself.
You gave your mom a hug next and she handed you a spoon right after. “Stir the mashed potatoes for us please.” She says before she gives Tyler a hug next.
“You look nice today, Tyler. We were just wondering if you were gonna wear that hoodie we always see you in.” She teases.
There was a slight blush that crept up on his cheeks but he tried to hide it.
Just then, you heard some loud footsteps coming from the stairs and your uncle rounded the corner right after.
“I thought I heard y/n” He grinned, about to give you a hug before he saw Tyler standing next to the counter.
“You must be the boyfriend.” He says, walking over to the fridge and pulling out two beers, passing one to him.
“We’ve heard a lot about you.” He adds, twisting the cap.
Your aunt shot him a look that he picked up on. “Be nice” she said.
“I’m always nice” He grinned. “Come on, man, let’s let the girls finish up in here. You like UFC? Got it on upstairs in the game room if you wanna watch with us.”
“Yeah, sounds cool.” Tyler said, looking back at you one more time before he headed upstairs.
“And Uncle Bryce just stole my boyfriend.” You chuckle. “You told him not to interrogate him, right?”
“Of course.” Your aunt said. “He’s not gonna do anything like that. He’s just curious who this new guy is that his niece is dating.”
“I like him” Your mom chimed in. “He seems like he’s good to you, and you look happy.”
“I am.” You beam.
“Oh no.” Your aunt says when she opens the oven. “You know who’s not gonna be happy? Bryce. This ham is burnt.”
“I told you the oven was too high, Emily.” Your mom scolded, rushing to pull the ham out the oven.
“I always make it on this temperature, it was not too high.”
“Then why the hell is it burnt?” your mom snapped. “You always do this every single year. Maybe you should be in charge of something else, cause ham isn’t your specialty.”
You rolled your eyes as you stirred the mashed potatoes, feeling like the chaos was already about to start.
“Look at this!” Your mom exclaimed as she cut into the ham. “It’s gonna be so dry”
“It’s fine.” Your aunt snapped back, swatting your mom’s hand away so she could doctor the ham herself. “Just go check on the green bean casserole or something. I got this.”
Your mom sighed as she opened the second oven, pulling the pan out and lifting the foil.
“I made this, so I know it’s fine.” She made a smart comment, and you felt the tensions arising quick.
Just then, your cousin came through the door.
“I’m here, and I brought alcohol!” She cheered, picking up on the tensions in the kitchen as soon as she stepped in.
“Fuck. Another thanksgiving fight? Why did I expect anything less?”
“No, we’re not fighting this year.” You said as you shot a look between both your mom and your aunt. You grabbed two of the bottles from your cousins bag and handed her one. You were thankful she showed up cause if anyone could understand, it was her.
“Where’s your man? I thought you were bringing him?”
“Upstairs with the guys.” You say before clicking your glasses together and taking a sip.
“Oh God, poor guy.” She joked before she put the drinks in the fridge.
“Emily, just throw that shit out. We’ll stick with turkey.” Your mom snapped again.
“It’s fine! If you don’t want it, don’t eat it. I’m not throwing the whole ham out.”
“Nobody’s gonna want that shit.” Your mom raised her voice. You rolled your eyes again and looked over at your cousin who was tipping back her drink.
“It’s fine!” Your aunt shouted back. “Who’s ready to eat? Girls, go set the table.” She directed you, passing you plates and silverware.
You both headed into the dining room. You could still hear them bickering in the kitchen.
“Every year. Never fails.” You sigh.
“That’s our family.” Your cousin shrugs. “Why do you think I get drunk when I’m here?”
“Tyler has never seen a holiday with us though. I don’t want him to think we’re insane.”
“But we are.” Your cousin chuckled. “Didn’t you warn him? Our mom’s are control freaks, my dad is a certified asshole, grandma loves to instigate and nobody knows how to communicate. Happy holidays, right?”
“His family is nothing like ours.” You tell her as you place the silverware down. “They’re so laid back and we’re so…”
“Not laid back. Yeah. But don’t worry so much about it. He was gonna end up seeing the crazy anyway. Better he sees it now than ten years down the road.”
You heard your mom calling for the guys to come downstairs and fix their plates. You took a deep breath and internally prepared yourself for whatever the hell was about to happen.
Tyler surprisingly came down with a smile on his face. He gave you a quick kiss before he grabbed the plate you were passing to him.
“Have fun up there?” You quirked a brow, and he nodded.
“Yeah, your uncle and brother are pretty cool.”
“Everyone just ignore the burnt ham! We still have turkey!” Your mom announced, smiling even though you knew she was throwing a shot at your aunt.
Your aunt was gritting her teeth as she cut into the ham. You were just thankful she didn’t say anything to fuel your mom’s petty fire.
Once you all got seated and started eating, the interrogation from your uncle started.
“So, since we don’t know much about you, Tyler, care to tell us about yourself?”
“You didn’t find out enough by googling him?” Your cousin piped up. “Pretty sure you know this guy’s whole life story by now.”
Your uncle cut his eyes but bit his tongue. You felt Tyler give your hand a squeeze under the table.
“Um, well I’m from long island. I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and I’m a pro wrestler for AEW right now.”
“You don’t have to listen to him.” Your cousin tells Tyler, glaring at your uncle. “He’s just trying to be aggravating.”
“No I’m not. I’m just curious about this kid. What’s it like being a wrestler?”
“It’s pretty cool. I mean, it’s not easy. A lot of physical strain on the body. It’s pretty demanding but I love it at the same time.”
“I have a question.” Your aunt chimes in. “How did you two meet? Long Island is a long ways away from here.”
“I went to a show and we ran into each other afterwards.” You tell her.
“So you were a fan?” Your uncle asks. “Is she the only fan you’ve dated?”
You peered your eyes at him from across the table, picking up on his tone immediately.
“She is.” Tyler says.
“Well that’s cute.” Your grandma adds from a little ways down the table.
“I imagine a lot of girls probably throw themselves at you.” Your uncle added.
“Not really, no.” Tyler denied, squeezing your hand under the table again.
“I don’t believe that.” He chuckled. “You’re a good looking kid and you probably meet a lot of girls whenever you’re traveling, right?”
“Well, yeah but-“
“I’m just making sure my niece is in good hands. You can understand that. We don’t know that much about you so-“
“Honey, can you leave Tyler alone and just eat your food. We’re all having a nice time. Let’s not ruin it with all these questions.” Your aunt chipped in, and for a second you were thankful for that, but you should’ve known your uncle wasn’t gonna bite his tongue that much.
“Oh, you mean this dry ass ham?” He stabbed his fork into a piece. “Emily, I told you to leave me in charge of the ham and turkey for a reason.”
“Fuck you, Bryce!” She spat, throwing her fork down on the plate.
The energy in the room shifted immediately. You felt your stomach twisting up in those tight knots all over again. The pure embarrassment was what was really overwhelming you.
“Here we go.” Your cousin rolled her eyes before she chugged her drink.
You glanced at Tyler who dropped his head down, clearly uncomfortable with the tensions that were quickly brewing in that dining room.
“Don’t start your shit.” Your uncle snapped back.
“Maybe just be thankful you have a wife who puts all of this together for the family then!” Your aunt retaliates.
“Guys, stop.” Your brother piped up. “Just eat so we can get this over with.”
“Get this over with? Is that all thanksgiving is to you all? Just something you have to drag your asses to my house for?!” Your aunt started up, and once she starts you already know there’s no stopping.
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Your brother tries to alleviate the tensions.
“Yes he did.” Your uncle adds. “You don’t have to lie to her.”
“Stop while you’re ahead, Bryce.” Your aunt snapped.
“It’s the truth, Emily. Half of us at this table don’t even like each other!”
“Hey, that’s fucked up.” Your cousin piped up again.
“Am I lying?” Your uncle shrugged.
“I love all of y’all.” Your grandma added from the end of the table.
“You were just talking trash about everyone in this room.” Your mom put in her two cents, calling out your grandma.
You looked at Tyler again, and he looked over at you. He could read your mind in that moment in seemed like, cause as soon as everyone started going after each other, he took you by the hand and snuck you out the dining room.
Everyone was too caught up in the arguments to notice the two empty chairs left at that table, and you were just thankful to be out of that house.
You walked to the car and he opened your door for you before he got in the drivers seat.
“Please tell me we’re leaving.” You sighed. He stayed silent for a moment before he spoke, probably trying to figure out what the hell he just witnessed.
“You should still say goodbye to your family. I don’t think it would be right if we just left without telling anyone.”
“They won’t notice.” You tried to persuade him. “And I’m so sorry that you had to see all this tonight. This is what I was scared of.”
“It’s not your fault.” He says. “Don’t be sorry for anything, baby.”
“I was so worried you weren’t gonna be able to deal with all this. I mean, your family is nothing like mine. They’re so nice to each other and I just didn’t want you to think differently of me because mines kinda crazy.”
“First, nothing can make me think any different about you. I love you and that’s not gonna change. Second, you think my family isn’t crazy, but all families are. My parents argue sometimes. Sometimes it gets bad enough that my mom throws food at my dad and he has to sleep on the couch. You didn’t see that cause they were on their best behavior when you were there.” He chuckles.
“But they’re a little crazy too. You’ll see that eventually, unfortunately. Maybe Christmas.” He shrugs. “Christmas is usually the craziest holiday at my parents house.”
“You want me there for Christmas?” You couldn’t help the smile breaking out.
“Of course I do.” He nods. “You’re my girl, I want to spend every holiday with you.”
You felt your heart melt, leaning over to place a gentle kiss to his lips that lingered for a few sweet seconds.
“Plus, my mom said if I didn’t bring you she was gonna be mad at me. She wants to bake stuff with you, and I think you have more presents under the tree than I do.” He grins.
“Tell her I can’t wait.” You beam, placing another kiss to his lips.

Thursday, September 12th, 2024.
Are you “with” the very last person you kissed? I'm not in a relationship with anyone.
Ever dated/kissed a someone with the name Casey, Tyler, Ryan, Jordan, Colton, Rebecca, Samantha, Lauren, Taylor, or Ashley? No.
Was your last kiss, standing up, sitting down, or lying down? I actually don't remember my very last kiss.
Are you happy with the choices you’ve made? I'm not thrilled with many of the choices I've made in life, but I'm a lot happier with the choices I've been making over the last year or so. They haven't been perfect, but things seem to be moving in the right direction.
Are you excited for anything? The 21st (y'all probably know why by now, so no explanation is necessary). The Chili Festival. Autumnal foods. Upcoming trips to the Mountain Park, especially now that the leaves are starting to change. Cooler weather. Halloween/Thanksgiving vibes. Meeting up with my mom for lunch this afternoon.
Do you hate the last person you kissed? No.
You’re stuck in an elevator with one of your worst enemies, what do you do? I don't really have any enemies, but as for the person I dislike most…I'd be extremely annoyed, but I don't think I would say or do anything that wasn't related to getting out of the elevator.
Will this weekend be a good one? Saturday is iffy. It should be "okay" as long as I stay focused on the positives. Sunday should be alright. I'll be working with River and Kristen, so no issues there at least.
Are you mad at someone right now? It's like a mixture of anger and anxiety.
Do you like to listen to the radio in the car? Yeah. I pretty much always listen to classical music when I'm in the car.
Do you sleep with a fan on? Sometimes we'll leave the swamp cooler on through a portion of the night, but I don't use any fans.
How is your hair right now? Buzzed and short and currently covered by a beanie.
Have you ever broken up with someone for someone else? Yeah. One instance was silly and impulsive, and I ended up getting back together with the first person. Another instance involved breaking things off with someone new because I still wasn't over my ex and was probably hung up on the slim-to-nonexistent chance that things would work out.
How many windows are open on your computer? One window, five tabs (two for Tumblr, two for YouTube, and an online Notepad where I take these surveys).
How tall are you? About 5'3".
Is something bothering you? Yeah, but hopefully it will pass. I just have to get through the next week-ish.
Have you ever taken a shower with anyone before? I have.
Have you ever laughed at something that wasn’t meant to be funny? Plenty of times. I have a rather morbid, irreverent sense of humor.
Have you ever told someone of the opposite sex “Fuck you”? Yeah.
Do you like to cuddle? Very much.
Have you done anything sneaky lately? Yeah.
Is your hair clean? I took a shower yesterday morning, so it's not filthy.
Last night, did you go to sleep smiling? No, but I did drift off while enjoying Essential Salt's latest podcast.
Were you happy when you woke up today? I was anxious, but also looking forward to grocery shopping. I bought some fall goodies to try.
What are you drinking right now? Coffee.
Do you wear your seatbelt in the car? Yeah.
Does someone have feelings for you? No.
Have you ever been cheated on? Yeah.
Are you hard to please? Naw. I think I'm pretty easy to please. I'm relatively low-maintenance and small things can make me very happy.
What are you craving right now? Relief from overthinking. I'll be pleasantly distracted for a moment, but then the worries will creep back in, along with a racing heartbeat and a knot in my stomach.
How are you feeling right now? A whole mess of emotions I don't feel like untangling.
What are you sick of? Alex. One would think her fast-approaching exit date would make it easier on me and that I'd be on cloud nine with anticipation, but if anything it's made me less tolerant.
Are you missing anyone/something? Cats who have passed away, backpacking memories with my dad, the way I used to feel about volunteering (I still love it as a whole and have no plans to quit, but these past few weeks have been overshadowed by anxiety, anger, and dread).
Relationship to the last person you called? The last person I called was my mom.
Could you date someone shorter than you? Yeah.
Is there anybody you just wish would fall of the planet? Or simply leave my sphere of influence.
Do you wear glasses? Pretty much only when I'm driving or when I need to see a menu up on a board.
Where did you sleep last night? In my own bed.
Do you straighten your hair? No. My hair is naturally straight.
What color shirt are you wearing? I'm wearing a black t-shirt, a slate gray/blue long-sleeved shirt, and a pine green sweater.
Do you have a best friend? Ollie.
Do you wish you had the chance to go back in time and change something now? Yes and no. Yes because I wish I had handled things differently, but no because staying silent wasn't the answer either. I'm just going to have to let the chips fall where they may and come up with a better approach in the future.
Who is the last person you got a text from? My mom.
Are you excited for winter? Yesss, but I want to focus on enjoying autumn first.
When are you at your happiest? When I'm around the people I love and when I'm doing something I love.
Is there anything you wish you did today? Why haven’t you done it? Today has barely started, but some things on my to-do list include making art, washing some bed stuff, and vacuuming my room.
Do you prefer to spend your time indoors or outdoors? Indoors for the most part, but I like getting outside as well.
What were you doing before you started this survey? I put away the groceries and made breakfast.
Can you honestly say that you love yourself? Not fully, but a lot more than I used to. Recognizing even a portion of my worth has led to some interesting developments…
Do you think you spend too much time feeling upset? Lately, yes. I'm just like DUDE you really need to let this go before it consumes you and makes you do something stupid and regrettable. It feels like all of my old behavior patterns are bubbling right below the surface, but I'm trying my damnedest to choose a different path.
Is there anyone you would seriously punch right now if you had the chance? No.
Do you own a pair of uggs? I don't.
What are your plans for tomorrow? I'll be at the animal shelter for a full day.

Hello, October!
Oh, how I've missed this beautiful month. October is the best month of the year and you can't change my mind. What other month spends thirty days painting the world with jewel tones and then ends it all with a big costume party? I love my birthday month, but I do consider it just one long October Eve. And speaking of costume parties, I know a little girl who is very excited about dressing up for Halloween. Let's start at the beginning. Our precious grandgirl started kindergarten in September. She loves it. A couple of weeks into school the kids were tasked with bringing a "Me Bag" for Show and Tell. They were supposed to bring a few things at home that are special to them and basically tell the class about the things they like. A short time later there was a sort of open house at the school and this is what Tyler sent us.
Just a few short days later, she was out shopping with her parents and the very same girl who had been saying that she wanted to go trick-or-treating as Jasmine spotted this and declared that she had found her Halloween costume. I wish I could show her face because she is quite pleased with herself in the photo. Looks like she wore it right out of the store.
Is that a precious little witch or what? I wonder if her classmates went home and told their parents that there's a witch in their class. Much like her Grancy she may end up on prayer lists far and wide. Too funny.
While we're on the subject of magic, guess who colored her hair? I thought about it for a long time. I'd grown out the white for a year and though I didn't hate it, I also didn't love it. I suppose I just wasn't ready. I placed an order to Sally's (the closest one is about 40 minutes away) and chose a color I'd safely used over and over. Good ol' 9NN. I'm telling you, when I mixed the color and developer I felt like a junkie cooking up fix. I couldn't wait. The color is not what I remembered. Yikes. Maybe it seems darker because I spent so long with white hair. But I'm fine with it.
I hope that neck wrinkle is caused by the seatbelt and not old age. Pretty sure it's age. Oh well. I was actually on my way to a dinner with women! You guys, I'm trying so hard to break into this town and find friends. It really shouldn't be this hard. I swear I don't stink and I'm really very nice. I have even applied for a job. It's with the library, the same library that kept turning me away as a volunteer. I'm more than qualified, do you think I'll even get a call? I'll be surprised if I do, but I'll keep hope alive and try to keep positive thoughts. If it doesn't happen, life will still be dandy. Besides, I know a little witch who might be able to cast a spell for me. Alright, enough of this prattle. My bag is waiting by the door and I'm heading to bed early to try to sleep before our early morning wakeup. I can never sleep the night before a trip. I suppose I could nibble a gummie. I have to leave those behind because Ireland has very strict rules about any sort of cannabis product and I really don't care to be nabbed at customs and thrown in prison. I've seen enough episodes of Locked Up Abroad to know that I'm too nice for prison. Looks like I'll be popping ibuprofen for a couple weeks. A little discomfort in exchange for castles and the Cliffs of Moher That's a good trade. Oh, the word comfort reminds me. One of the many gift cards I received on my 60th was an Amazon card. One of the purchases I made with it was this outfit to wear on the flight.
I will admit, that for just $29 I did not have high hopes - but it's fabulous!! So comfy, so soft and light. It's wonderful! Four pieces, the jogger pants, a short sleeved tee, a tank, and a cardigan, all in a lightweight jersey-type fabric. I love it so much that I'll definitely buy it in another color (my set is basic black). It runs true to size, so just order your regular size and it should fit just fine. Here's a link:
I'm really leaving this time. Going to grab a book and hopefully read myself to sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day. Because of an airline schedule change we have an extremely long layover in Toronto, like most of the day. Maybe that will work in my favor and I'll conk out on the flight to Dublin. I rarely sleep on planes and that makes me bleary-eyed on arrival. This might be just the thing to make me tired enough to get some shut-eye on the way over. Fingers crossed. Next post will be from Ireland. Our Air BnB supposedly has excellent wi-fi, probably better than many of the hotels we've stayed in on past trips. That's good news. Brace yourself for too many photos. Stay safe, stay well. XOXO, Nancy

THINKIN BOUT HARRY GOING A LIL TOO HARD ONE NIGHT SO BARTENDER Y/N ASKS MATT TO COVER HER AND SHE TAKES HIM BACK TO HERS AND HE’S GOT HIS HEAD IN THE TOILET AND SHES QUICKLY PUTTING HIS LONG HAIR IN A BUN FOR HIM AND RUBBING HIS BACK COOING SWEET THJNGS IN HIS EAR AND INBETWEEN DRY HEAVES HES JUST MUMBLING “so so sorry- so sorry y/n, baby i’m so sorry i’m a mess.” AND SHE JUST RUBS HIS BACK SITTING ON THE FLOOR BEHIND HIM AND SAYS “your all my mess though h” I—
i incorporated some old bartender!y/n asks including this and this and this! this is connected to behind the bar :)
You could tell Harry wasn’t okay whenever his eyes were shutting while he was sitting in the booth, leaning against the wall and just sitting there while Tyler and Caleb and some other brothers were talking. “Matt, I don’t think Harry is okay,” you said, pulling on his shirt sleeve to get his attention.
Matt looked up from where he was filling a glass with beer from the tap and grimaced. “Fuck, yeah--Tyler and Caleb said they were doing pong night and they must’ve played rage cage. Harry’s fucking horrible at it but loves playing it and always ends up like that.”
You rolled your eyes because of course Harry would do something like that. “I’m going to take him home, okay? Can you cover for me?”
Matt looked around the bar and sighed--it was packed--but nodded. “You owe me.”
“Big time,” you answered, pinching his cheek once before heading for the end of the bar and darting around the side of it. You made your way over to Harry’s booth and gave Tyler a loving smack upside the head. “What did you do to him?”
“That hurt!” Tyler said, rubbing his head, before looking at Harry. “I swear, it’s not my fault. He got bitch cup and we told him he didn’t have to drink it but he did and now he’s...like this. But he got all pissy when we told him he shouldn’t come. Said something about never missing one of your shifts.”
You sighed, and then beckoned Tyler out of the booth. “Help me get him to my car, yeah?” He nodded, and Caleb stood too, knowing he had equal responsibility in this. “H,” you murmured, reaching over and ruffling his hair. “C’mon, baby, we’re heading home.”
“Already?” He asked, eyes opening and gazing up at you. They were glassy and droopy, the tell-tale sign that he’d had a bit too much.
“Yeah. C’mon, Tyler and Caleb are going to help me get you to my car.” He grumbled but got up, letting his littles help walk him out of the bar. Mike gave you a knowing glance as you walked out and you smiled at him as if to say Please, please do not call the cops and you walked out the door, leading the boys to where your car was parked around back.
“Good job,” you said as he walked. “Right foot, now left foot, let’s keep it moving dumb dumb.”
Harry pouted in response, and then said, “I’m not dumb dumb, you call me baby!”
You were just a few feet from your car and you were frustrated and exhausted and you just wanted him to calm down. “Come on, H, not now.”
Big mistake. He suddenly stopped moving, feet seemingly cemented to the sidewalk. “I refuse to move until you call me baby. I’m being so serious right now.”
You sighed and unlocked the door and Tyler and Caleb tried to shove Harry towards the car, but Harry braced himself against the door, a sudden surge of stubbornness and strength stopping him in his tracks. “Harry, c’mon,” you said. “Get in the car.”
“No,” he insisted. “Call me baby.”
Tyler and Caleb were snickering next to him and you gave them each fixed looks to get them to shut up. “Baby,” you finally said, trying to make your voice as sweet as possible. “Can you get in the car?”
Harry beamed and immediately moved. “Since you asked so nicely.” You let out a breath and let Tyler and Caleb get him into his seat while you went around the other side and turned on the car. The boys were trying to get him buckled in but you waved them away, telling them to go and you had it from there. Harry, though, seemed to have other ideas, because when you leaned over to grab the seatbelt and buckle him in, he started peppering kisses up and down your neck and on your shoulders.
“Not now, H,” you mumbled as you tried to get the seatbelt arranged around him.
“No baby, I promise I don’t wanna bang right now we’re in your work parking lot, silly!” He giggled and you couldn’t help but glance at his adorable expression, his dimples poking out. “I just wanna hold you a little bit. You look so cute.”
That had you smiling back at him. “Later, okay? Let’s get you home first.” Finally, he let you buckle him in and you pulled out of the parking lot. “Remember, if you need to throw up tell me pull over first, okay?” He nodded and you started asking him about his night to keep him talking and awake while you drove.
He managed to make it all the way to your apartment before he was running to the bathroom, his head falling into the toilet bowl as you followed him. When you reached the room, he was on his knees, heaving the contents of his stomach into the toilet, and you shut the door behind you.
“You’re okay, baby,” you murmured, leaning down next to him and gathering his long hair into a bun with your hair tie so it didn’t get dirty. You rubbed up and down his back, cooing at him softly, because you knew that’s what he wanted most when he felt gross.
In between dry heaves, he was mumbling on repeat, “I’m so, so sorry--so sorry Y/N, baby, I’m so sorry I’m a mess.” You just shook your head though, leaning back against the wall and running your hand up and down his back, shushing him.
“You’re all my mess, H. It’s okay.” You two sat like that on your bathroom floor until he finally stopped, resting back on his heels. “Better?” You asked, thumbing at the tears at the corners of his eyes. He nodded and you stood, grabbing an empty glass from the counter and filling it with water for him. “Okay, how about you brush your teeth and let’s go to bed, hmm?”
“Cuddles?” He asked, looking up at you with nothing but love in his eyes. It was moments like these when the feelings you had for each other overwhelmed you, the pure, unabashed love in his gaze meant for only you.
You just nodded though, brushing at a strand of hair that had fallen from the bun you had done. “Lots of cuddles. Might even let you borrow my Mickey Mouse shirt.”
His eyes widened at the thought and scrambled to his feet. You helped him stand, and he leaned his weight into you, wrapping his arms around your waist. “You must really love me if you’re going to let me wear Mickey.”
You chuckled and pressed a soft kiss to his temple. “You’re right, baby. Now come on, time to brush your teeth.”
i am so soft HELP

Chapter 22
With everything that’s been going on lately, and in this week alone, it was nice to update this story. I forgot where I originally wanted to take this chapter but I’m glad I did because - well, you’ll see 😉
~~~~~~~~
“It’s the little things that you do baby that make me so damn crazy.”
---
I stood underneath the warm water of my shower and let my tense muscles relax. After my vent session with Vic and him asking me out, I had some more things to be stressed about. One of them being why he asked me out in the first place. I ended up texting him during class after lunch, asking him to clarify some things. Really, I just wanted to know how he figured I wasn’t heterosexual. Turns out he didn’t know; he just took a shot in the dark and asked me out.
Once that was out in the open, I had more time to stress about the date itself. What would I wear? I wanted to impress Vic, but I didn’t want to look like I tried too hard. Where would we be eating? I was thinking it would be a sit-down restaurant, meaning I’d have to look over a menu and not take forever picking something. But wait, would we be going to a movie? That’s a typical high school date, right? Dinner and a movie?
I stepped deeper underneath the flow of water pouring down on me. I took some deep breaths and tried to ground myself. All of these thoughts were making me more anxious than I should’ve been. Curse my brain for overthinking everything.
After finally getting my heartrate back to normal, I rinsed and left the shower. It was time to get ready for my date.
I smiled to myself as I walked into my bedroom. I was going on a date. With Vic freaking Fuentes. When I thought about it, I had to chuckle. I had no idea our relationship would go down this road from where we started, but life is funny in that way.
I put on my underwear all the while thinking about what to wear for this date. Since I didn’t know where we were going, I decided to go simple enough to make it look like I wasn’t obsessing, but dressy enough to fit in anywhere. I opened my closet, looked for a moment, then decided to go with my ripped black skinny jeans, a fitted white V-neck, and my black leather jacket. I quickly slipped on my black Vans before going back into the bathroom to fix my hair.
By the time I was ready, the clock read 6:48. I had about twelve minutes before Vic would be at my door.
I sat on my bed and unlocked my phone. I went to my messages and replied to the group chat that Lynn forced me to be in. I wasn’t a big fan of group chats, mostly because I don’t usually say anything, but the chat seemed pretty chill so far, so I didn’t complain.
You’re really going on a date with Vic???? Lynn texted. That message was followed by various emojis from Tyler, Savannah, and Tori.
Yes I replied with a chuckle, I’m really going out with him. He should be here soon
Where are you guys going? What are you wearing to it? Are you gonna put out???
I sent the eye roll emoji to Tyler as my response. I was never thinking about doing anything with Vic, and I didn’t want to think about it. This was the first date; I’m not one to rush into things.
I texted the group that it was about time for me to go, and that I would let them know if anything happened. They wished me luck before I locked my phone and slipped it into my pocket.
I skipped down the stairs and looked at the clock on the wall. 6:55, it read. I smiled to myself. Vic was probably on his way. He seemed like the punctual type, so he would most likely be at my door in the next two or three minutes. I flicked off the light in the foyer after I grabbed my keys and walked onto the porch. After locking the front door, I sat on the porch swing.
My neighborhood was in a nice suburban area. The sun was starting to set, painting the sky with soft pinks, oranges, and fading blue. The streets were quiet so it was easy to hear the birds chirping in the background. It was the perfect scene to reflect on everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours.
In all this time, I had had a sleepless night, spilled my guts, and been asked out on a date by the person I spilled my guts to. Strangely, I felt calmer when I ran through the events in my head. Reflecting on it all helped put things in perspective.
And I decided that my life was a fucking mess.
I smiled when I saw the familiar silver sedan pull into my driveway. Yes, my life was a mess, but this was one of the good moments.
I stood from my seat and approached the car as Vic was walking out.
“Hey you,” he said with a smile. It took everything in me not to blush.
“Hey,” I managed to whisper out. The sight before me took my breath away. I usually saw Vic in khaki shorts and band T-shirts, but he cleaned himself up for our date.
He was wearing black skinny jeans with a fitted white T-shirt and a green jacket. He had on Vans as well, but his were black and white unlike my solid black ones. He had on a black snapback turned backwards against his wavy hair. I couldn’t help but chuckle when I had finally taken all of him in.
“What?” he asked skeptically.
I shook my head. “We’re dressed alike.” Vic looked me up and down and laughed.
“Man, we’re gonna be one of those couples, aren’t we?”
“Couple? This is our first date.”
It was Vic’s turn to chuckle. “You don’t think you’ll end up being my boyfriend?”
I blushed. That was not a question I was anticipating, or one that I had thought about. Did I want to be Vic’s boyfriend? Up until a few hours ago I didn’t know Vic was into boys, and now he’s talking about putting a label on us. It felt like he was moving this too fast.
“Listen…,” I started. He cut me off with a smile.
“Don’t stress about it, Quinn. I could pretty much read your thoughts on your face after I said that. Let’s just go on this date.”
I smiled back at him, grateful to put that conversation behind us. We walked to the car in silence, and after putting on our seatbelts, we were off to our destination.
Vic hadn’t told me where we were headed, and I didn’t feel the need to ask. I figured that if he wanted me to know then he would’ve told me. Since he didn’t that meant it was a surprise, and I like surprises.
I sat back and looked at the road ahead of us. The sun was still setting steadily and the road was almost free of other cars. It was pretty peaceful out. Vic was tapping his fingers on the steering wheel to the song playing in the car. It was a band I didn’t recognize, but I liked the song. I found myself nodding along as I stared out the window beside me.
After about fifteen minutes of driving we reached our destination. “We’re here,” was all Vic said before he turned off the car and got out.
I was confused. We were in a parking lot, but there wasn’t anything around us. I assumed that he would be taking us to a restaurant, not the middle of nowhere.
“Uh, where is ‘here’ exactly?” I asked when I exited the car.
Vic smiled and popped the trunk. I walked over to see him pull out a picnic blanket with a basket.
“What’s all that?”
His smile never faltered. “Well I was thinking all day about what kind of date you’d appreciate and seeing how today you really responded to us just talking away from everyone, I thought you’d like this.” A big, genuine smile creeped onto my face.
“You really wanted to impress me, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, I guess I did. Are you impressed?”
I chewed on my lip, trying to suppress my stupid grin. “Yes,” was all I said. Apparently that was enough for him.
He walked ahead of me to a picnic area, then walked past that. I followed closely behind so I wouldn’t lose him as it was getting darker. Vic led us through the trees to a clearing. For the second time that day, we were in front of a small river.
“How do you keep finding these places?” I asked. Vic only chuckled. He set down the blanket on some soft grass and opened the picnic basket. He took out some pillows and various Tupperware of food. Once I saw that everything was set up, I sat next to him on the blanket.
“It’s not much, but I hope you like it,” he said timidly. I looked at the food in front of us. Vic had packed some assorted fruits, some vegetables with ranch, what appeared to be chicken salad sandwiches, and bottles of apple and orange juice.
“This all looks great,” I said with a reassuring smile. It did look really good. It was simple, but I could tell that a lot of thought went into the preparation. That made my heart beat a little stronger.
We sat, ate, and talked while the sun slowly fell below the horizon. Once it was gone, Vic pulled an electric lantern from the basket and switched it on. I didn’t bother saying anything about it.
We ended our dinner with sharing some tres leche that his mom had made. I moaned as soon as the cake hit my tongue.
“So…you like it?” Vic asked with a smug smile on his face. I stuck my tongue out at him. “Careful Quinn, or I’ll do something else to that tongue.”
My jaw dropped open and I’m sure my cheeks turned scarlet. “W-wh-what? Who?” I stuttered. Vic held my gaze with passion in his eyes. I wanted to look away so desperately, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
He had me and I think he knew it too.
“It’s getting colder,” he finally spoke. “Wanna get out of here?” I could only nod.
We packed up everything and carefully made our way back to the car. Vic put all the items used on our date back in the trunk. In the meantime, I was in the passenger’s seat wondering why the hell he said what he said to me.
There was no doubt in my mind that Vic had been with other people. He had told me that he was still a virgin, but that didn’t exclude other types of pleasure. What all had Vic done with other boys? Or girls? He was obviously more experienced than I was just based on what he said to me. Or was it that he was more confident? Well, most of the world was more confident compared to me.
I was a virgin. Well, I was a virgin who had never been kissed. Shocker, I know. The opportunity just never presented itself. I didn’t want my first kiss to be under some bleachers or because of a game of spin the bottle. I wanted a kiss with someone I cared about; I wanted to be with someone I had real feelings for. If that meant that I wouldn’t get kissed until college then…I’d probably go for the game of spin the bottle.
Vic got into the car and drove us to my house without a word. I was a bit relieved considering that I had gone over so many scenarios and questions in my head in such a short amount of time. It would’ve been hard for me to speak a coherent sentence.
Fifteen minutes of silence led us back to my place. I didn’t want to be rude so I spoke before I opened the car door. “Thanks for the date.” Then I mentally facepalmed at such a stupid statement.
Vic seemed to have found some humor in it because his eyes twinkled. “There’s no need to be so awkward, Quinn,” he said after a sigh.
“Well how should I be?” I asked.
He bit his bottom lip. “I’m not sure.” I wasn’t sure I heard him; my attention was on his lip and how I wanted to be the one biting it.
No, bad Kellin!
“Look,” he spoke, “I’m sorry if what I said earlier made you uncomfortable. I know this is our first date and I shouldn’t have tried to suggest anything that I wasn’t sure you were comfortable with. And I hope that didn’t turn you away from the idea of a second date.”
I stared into his dark brown eyes; I saw nothing but sincerity. He meant every word he just said, and that made me feel a little better about it all.
“No, no you didn’t turn me away from a second date.” His bright smile reached his eyes and I couldn’t help but smile back.
“Cool,” he simply said, obviously trying to regain his composure. I quietly giggled. “Shut up.”
“Make me,” I challenged. I saw his eyes flick down to my lips before resting on my eyes again. He bit his lip once again. It was obvious that he had the same thoughts in his head that I had in mine. We wanted to pounce on each other in this car.
“It’s pretty late.” I nodded in response. “Maybe you should go inside.”
“Trying to get rid of me already?” I asked.
“Trust me, that’s the last thing I wanna do. I just don’t want you to do something in the heat of the moment that you’ll regret.” I cocked an eyebrow in confusion. What would I possibly regret? “Besides, this is our first date. Gotta keep you interested.”
But I already was.
I would never say that, so I just nodded. “Alright, well I guess this is goodnight.”
Vic smiled. “Yeah, goodnight KQ. This was fun.”
“It was. You’re not all bad, Fuentes.”
“I’m a lot of things. Hopefully you’ll get to see some of them.”
I blinked repeatedly. What the hell did that mean? Before I could ask, he spoke.
“I’ll text you later tonight. Thanks for a great date.” He took my hand in his and squeezed it. I glanced down at our hands then looked at his face that held such a warm smile that my heart melted.
I returned the smile. “You’d better text me.” Reluctantly, I slid my hand from his and opened my door. I waved to him from outside the car before walking to my house. Vic didn’t leave until I had closed the front door and turned on the lights.
I quietly went into the living room and flopped onto the couch. I sighed as I thought about the last two and a half hours. The conversation that was amazing, the scenery that was breathtaking, and the man who made my heart skip a beat and made me want to think and act with my other brain. The guy who made my palms sweaty and my breathing labored. The guy who would probably do those things in a more physical way if I played my cards right.
I took a breath to regain my composure.
Who knew one date could bring up all these feelings?
The List
Summary: So basically my friend came up with this thing and basically it's a reward list, so every time a player on a team we like scores they get added to the list, which will be explained in the fic. This is basically all smut with a teeny bit of plot. Apologies for not posting this on the weekend, I’m drowning in school work right now.
Warnings: Just a little heads up Tyler does use demeaning language when dirty talking to the reader (slut and whore) but they are in no way said in a negative context. Just wanted to give y'all a warning in case that bothers anyone. LOTS of dirty talk in one part, semi-public blowjob (is an empty parking lot considered public? Idk), some swearing, mentions of a gangbang with the rest of the team. If I missed anything else let me know.
You sat in the stands of the American Airlines Centre watching your boyfriend, Tyler Seguin, play against the Washington Capitals. Jamie Benn was out because of an upper body injury, so many people had turned to Tyler to carry his team to victory. It didn't take long for him to score, making the score 1-0 at the end of the first period. At the end of the second it was 1-1, leaving the Dallas fans in the arena holding their breath as the third period ticked away with no goals, meaning the game went to overtime. The atmosphere was tense as OT started, with the puck going back and forth for a few minutes, before Tyler put it in the Capital's net, meaning another win on home ice. You made a mental note that Tyler was on "the list" three times. You and your friend had come up with this list a while ago, before you began dating Tyler. Basically every time a player from your team scores they get added to the list. Whoever is on the list by the end of the night has earned a blowjob. Players who score multiple times have multiple spots, and married men are excused for obvious reasons. Now, this list was usually just fun and games, but now that you were dating Seguin you had an opportunity take it seriously. He had rightfully earned two spots, but because he won the game for his team you felt the third spot was well deserved. You made your way to the locker room to congratulate the rest of the team. You walked up to Tyler and told him in a hushed tone,
"You made it on the list three times tonight, you better be ready when we get home."
"Three? I only scored twice," he whispered back, while beginning to get dressed.
"I feel like scoring the winning goal in OT is worthy of an extra spot, and I doubt you'll disagree," you said as he began to gather his things up and get ready to leave.
"You do have a point. However, I do disagree with something else you said: who says we need to wait until we get home?" asked Tyler, weaving his fingers through yours as he began to leave the dressing room. You were inevitably stopped by the media asking for interviews with Tyler. He obliged, but you could tell this was the last thing he wanted to be doing at the moment. After he was done he hurried out to his car, which was parked in a mostly deserted area behind the AAC. He put his bags in the trunk before turning to you with an expectant look on his face.
"Uh Tyler, aren't we gonna get in the car??" you asked as he folded his arms over his chest before glancing at his watch unamused.
"There's not enough room in there."
"Tyler you drove the G-Wagon today, surely we could make it work," you pled, secretly hoping he'd say no and expect you to get on your knees for him outside of the arena, where anybody could get lost looking for their car and walk by and see you.
"I said no and that's final. Now, you don't want to keep me waiting, do you? This was your idea after all."
You slowly sank down to your knees, feeling the gravel and pebbles dig into your skin through the denim of your jeans. You quickly glanced around and made sure nobody was around before unbuttoning his dress pants. You could see he was already half hard when you exited the arena, so it was no surprise that his cock sprang out when you pulled his pants down slightly. You wasted no time taking him into your mouth, wanting this entire experience to be over as quick as possible in order to minimize the risk of being caught. The possibility of someone walking by and catching you with one of the best players on the team's dick in your mouth was thrilling to say the least, but you didn't want to deal with what would happen if the story got into the media. You relaxed your jaw and allowed Tyler to do what he pleased with your mouth. You felt him hit the back of your throat but he didn't let that stop him, continuing to force your head down until you were choking on him. He pulled you off slightly and you brought a hand up to stroke whatever wasn't in your mouth. You heard him growl slightly when you pulled off far enough to focus on his tip, swirling your tongue around before running it gently through his slit, tasting the bead of precum that had formed there. You took him further into your mouth again before bringing your other hand up to gently cup his balls. That's what did it for him, and he was barely able to choke out a warning before he was coming in your mouth. You tried to swallow as much as you could, but some managed to drip down your chin. You hurriedly tucked him back into his dress pants and ran a finger along your chin, licking it off seductively. Tyler watched you before helping you stand up and get into the car. It wasn't until you went to buckle up your seatbelt that you noticed you had managed to get cum on your jersey.
"TYLER!! You got my jersey all dirty!" you pouted as he got into the car.
"A) I don't think that was my fault sweetheart, you're the one that made the mess. B) I can easily get you a new one, and C) keep that one, you can wear it while I fuck you," he said casually, turning out of the parking lot. You said nothing but blushed at the thought of riding Tyler and having him proudly look up at the logo on your chest, or him fucking you from behind and seeing his name and number, just more proof that you were his and only his. You gently ran your fingers up and down Tyler's thigh, at first out of boredom, but as you watched Tyler clench has jaw you realized the affect you were having on him. You started to move your hand up higher, until it hovered over his dick. You started to lower your hand but before you could touch him Tyler grabbed your wrist and placed your hand back in your lap. You met his eyes and behind the look of annoyance you could tell he was enjoying this. You decided you weren't quite done teasing him though. You carefully removed your shoes before placing one foot on his dashboard. You turned your body slightly and spread your legs as much as you could while sitting in the passenger seat of a car. You ran your fingers up the inside of your thigh before ghosting them over where you wanted them. You saw Tyler's eyes dart over to watch what you were doing occasionally, before returning to watch the freeway. You slowly reached up to unbutton your jeans and pulled them off as quickly as possible before moving back to your original position. Tyler did a double take as he watched you toss your discarded jeans into the back seat.
"Y/N, what the hell do you think you're doing?" asked Tyler as he exited the freeway and began driving back to his house.
"Just getting comfortable," you said smugly, eyeing the traffic in front of you. You sat quietly for a minute, scrolling through Instagram and checking Snapchat. This quickly became boring, and you decided to torture Tyler a bit more. You pulled your lacy thong down your legs and dropped it in Tyler's lap. He picked it up and threw a cheeky glance your way before tucking it into the breast pocket of his suit jacket. You felt the car come to a stop and looked at the cars lined up bumper to bumper in front of you and decided to have fun. You let your hand wander down to start slowly rubbing your clit. A smirk grew on Tyler's face but he made no moves to stop you, he merely kept his eyes on the road. You took it up a notch and gently slipped two fingers inside of yourself, letting out a breathy moan. You started slowly, but you quickly decided to pick up the pace. As traffic began to move quicker so did your wrist, and by the time you turned into Tyler's neighbourhood you were on the brink of an orgasm.
"Ty please I-"
"Go ahead baby, make a mess all over my car seat," said Tyler in a husky voice. That was all it took, you came with a shudder and a low moan, feeling your wetness drip onto the leather of the seat beneath you. You pulled into Tyler's driveway and you gently removed your fingers from your wet heat before you watched in amazement as Tyler grabbed your wrist and gently guided your hand toward his mouth, before taking your fingers into his mouth and licking them clean. He pulled into the garage and you moved to reach into the back seat to grab your jeans but Tyler shook his head.
"I closed the garage door, no one is going to see you. Besides, there's no use in putting them on when they'll end up on the floor in a while anyway. You can grab them later when you come out to clean my passenger seat," he instructed as you unbuckled your seatbelt and got out of the car. You quickly ran into the house, your jersey barely covering your bare ass. You quickly moved to sit on the couch and covered your exposed lower half, knowing Tyler would likely continue the tradition of filming his dogs greeting him. Your prediction was correct, Tyler came in with his phone recording, capturing the dogs jumping up and knocking him over, before licking his face and climbing all over him. You watched the videos as soon as he'd posted them on his Instagram story, and let out a choked gasp as you notice the blue lace of your thong was still peaking out of his pocket.
"Tyler? Forget about something?" you asked as he sat down, gesturing to his pocket.
"Oh this? You don't approve of my new pocket square?" he asked with a smug grin on his face.
"What are you gonna say when somebody asks what's in your pocket, huh?"
"I'm sure I can come up with some excuse. Now, I believe you still owe me two more blowjobs, you might wanna get working on that," said Tyler as he walked into the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water. He drank it quickly, some of in dripping down his chin.
"There, now we're even," he said with a smirk as you got off the couch and let the dogs into the backyard before making your way over to Ty. You came up behind him and gently pulled his suit jacket off of his shoulders before draping it over the back of a chair. He turned to face you and gently pressed his lips to yours. You stayed like this for a minute, kissing him gently until he bit your bottom lip and you gasped. Tyler slipped his tongue into your mouth and the kiss quickly became very heated. You reached down and grabbed him through his dress pants, squeezing gently before you started to run your hand along his growing excitement. He groaned into the kiss, clearly still worked up after your antics on the ride home. You knelt down for the second time that night, the tile flooring of the kitchen cool against your skin. You took your time with him this time, unbuttoning his pants before slowly dragging the zipper down with your teeth. You stood back up and helped Tyler with his dress shirt, before putting it with his jacket. He took the liberty of pulling down his pants and removing his socks and his boxers, leaving him naked in the middle of his kitchen. You raked your eyes over his chiseled abs and toned legs before glancing at his dick, which was now fully hard and beginning to leak precum. You walked back over to him and he placed a hand on your shoulder to gently push you to the ground, his patience wearing thin. You placed a gentle kiss to his tip before licking it gently and taking it into your mouth. You gently swirled your tongue around it and you heard Tyler groan above you, and felt his fingers tangle themselves in your hair. You heard the dogs whining outside and you looked up at him while you started to bob your head rhythmically but he merely shook his head, muttering something about them being patient. You decided to try something, and you took him farther and farther into your mouth until your nose touched his skin. Tyler gasped when you gagged lightly, your throat tightening around him. You felt him wipe away a tear that had begun to drip down your cheek, and you moved to focus on his tip once again. You heard one of the dogs bark and you pulled off of Tyler, your mouth making an obscene pop as his tip left your lips.
"Should I go let them in and put them in the bedroom?" you asked as you looked up at Ty through your lashes, still gently stroking him.
"Nah they can wait. Plus after that little stunt you pulled earlier I'm not going to last much longer," said Tyler, his voice strained. You continued your earlier actions, moving your head skillfully, running your tongue along the prominent vein on the underside of his dick, knowing it drives him wild. A few minutes later Tyler managed to choke out that he was close. You let him fall from your mouth as you brought a hand up to stroke him quickly. He looked confused at first but seemed to get the message when you opened your mouth and stuck your tongue out. A minute later you felt him come all over your face, his hips twitching and bucking into your hand as he rode out his high. Once he caught his breath you looked him in the eye as you collected some of the cum off of your cheek and licked it off your finger seductively.
"God Y/N, you're such a little slut, aren't you? Look at you, mascara running down your cheeks, my cum all over your face, wearing nothing but my jersey. You're so wet you're practically dripping on my kitchen floor. You love being a little whore, don't you? Love getting on your knees for me and giving me what I deserve. Your mouth feels so good, almost like you were made for this. I wish the rest of the guys could see you like this. I bet you would love letting each and every one of them use you, showing them just how well you can use that pretty little mouth. I'd be the only one allowed to fuck you though, I don't want anyone else trying to claim what's already mine. I'd fill you up with my cum, a reminder that I'm the only one who's allowed to please you. You'd enjoy that wouldn't you, my dirty little girl," Tyler said in a husky voice, tilting your chin up so you were forced to look him in the eye as he spoke. "Next time you walk into our locker room maybe I'll let them. Make sure everyone gets their turn. Maybe I'll even let them touch you, let them feel how wet you can get. They won't be allowed to make you cum though, no, that's my job. I'll make them watch as I eat you out, show them how to please a woman. Maybe I'll let Jamie have a turn, there's no way he'll be able to resist a chance to taste you once he sees how pretty you look when you come and how good you suck his cock. You'd love that wouldn't you?" You nod, unable to form words. Tyler smirks, and grabs his boxers from the pile they had ended up in before putting them on and letting in the dogs. You went upstairs to wash your face and get ready for bed. It wasn't often you saw this side of Tyler; he usually chose to behave like a pillow princess, ordering you around and making you do all the work. You made a mental note to wear this jersey to the next game, hoping he'd been serious about letting his teammates have their way with you. You also made a mental note to discuss it with him later, and to make sure you took your thong out of his pocket before the suit got dropped off to be dry cleaned. You laid in bed and Tyler soon joined you, closing the door behind him so the dogs wouldn't bother you. You both decided the third blowjob you owed him could wait until tomorrow, but that didn't stop him from running his hands along your thighs and over your butt before moving them up to massage your boobs. He flipped you over so that you laid beneath him. He said something about wanting to thank you for making him feel good today and before you knew it his face was buried between your legs and you were moaning loudly for him. He ate you out for what felt like hours until you begged him to stop, the oversensitivity no longer enjoyable. He moved to kiss you, and you tasted yourself on his lips and felt how damp his beard was. He laid down on his side and pulled you into his chest where you soon fell asleep as you listened to his heart beat steadily in his chest.
You woke up the next morning still pressed into Tyler's chest, and you listened to him snore softly. You got up and carefully removed his arm from around your waist before stealing one of his hoodies from the closet and a pair of sweats. You padded down the stairs quietly, before joining the dogs on the couch. You decided to watch The Office for a while, patting Gerry on the head and giving Cash a belly rub. You heard Tyler wander downstairs a little while after 9 AM wearing nothing but his boxers, his hair wild and curly and a tired look on his face.
"Morning, I'm gonna shower, wanna join?"
You simply nodded, giving each of the dogs a kiss before getting up and following Ty up the stairs. You heard the shower turn on, and you began removing your hoodie as you walked towards the bathroom. You slipped off your sweats and left them in a pile in the hallway. You were naked by the time you turned into the bathroom, and Tyler was already in the shower. You stepped into the hot shower with him, and things began as innocently as showering with somebody else could be. You washed Tyler's hair for him, styling it into a mohawk before he rinsed the suds out. He did the same for you, massaging your scalp with his fingers. You put conditioner in your hair, and reached for the body wash but Tyler had beat you to it. He squeezed some out into his palms and rubbed it into a lather. He motioned for you to turn around and he began gently washing your back. His hands slowly wandered further down your body, moving to grab your ass. He squeezed gently before smacking one side. You gasped, not expecting it. He turned you around to face him again so he could wash your front. He scrubbed your arms and legs before washing your stomach and boobs. He began gently at first, ghosting his fingers over your nipples lightly before becoming more aggressive, squeezing tightly. He finally pulled you in to kiss him, and you allowed your hands to run over his biceps and his chest, before drifting over his abs and down to his dick, which was now half hard. You knelt down for him, trying your best not to get water in your face. It was quick and sloppy, the shower not large enough for an NHL player and another average sized person. Tyler enjoyed it nonetheless, coming down your throat with a growl after a few minutes. You both finished showering, and stepped out. You quickly grabbed the discarded clothing the hallway and put it back on, wrapping your hair up in a towel. You walked back into the bathroom and Tyler wrapped you in a hug and pressed a kiss to your forehead, mumbling words of praise and thanking you for being so good to him.
'If it means you'll treat me like this, I have to play that well more often," said Ty with a small smile, placing a kiss on your lips before gong to get dressed for the day.
Venus 3000
Definitely not my day. Either it will be my phone not ringing, either the ship getting slow as fuck to the platform or even Emily as I see her (and she sees that I see her) right before I was skipping line from a mexican dude for a sandwich. And neither did I get a nod nor a sandwich. Fuck.
I don't know why I said hi, I surely wasn't at my best and she didn't look too ok with it. I could pretend to study these ugly backs of the seats in front of me or keep on looking at the Pacific from my window while she was passing to seat at the first class. Sure, I could. But I was itching to learn why and how she justs appears here and just sits along with the richie rich folk. If only this notification for email and this nervous air hostess nagging about turning off out devices didn't hold me back from asking her on the spot.
"A reminder.
Make sure to fix your attitude and send some content, some good content this time, or we'll have problems to solve. Patience only lasts that long.
Sam, Assistant Manager."
Ah, simple, straight to the point and obnoxious Sam-the-assistant-manager as always, which she thinks she rules the world now that every serious person took a week of for the summer and she's left behind. I don't quite blame her, but she was asking me to reportabout local brunch restaurants and sunscreens just for the ads, only to get me to fly to Venus because Tyler got sickand all that crap.
Venus is just a dusty volleyball from the window when we get awaken by the stuff. Dunno if that's a tradition or not, but the pilot seemed to think that it was a good idea to sing happy birthday to each passenger that had birthday during the three month flight. It really was a good idea since I barely forgot Emily's birthday. I get myself around the seatbelts and get right back to them after the air hostess gives me the side eye. I take a minute to think about this and I see that i'ts kinda tricky to just play friends with her, so I stick to my shit. I take a look at my seat personal notifications to see what I missed. My sister's cat my only casualty. Pretty good if you compare that to the others beside me crying their eyes out for their loved ones that turned out less alive than expected. I guess I got pretty lucky. For a bit.
Cause this yuppie next to me takes his chance at starting a conversation with me about his newborn grandchild and as I'm known to enjoy this type of junk I tolerate this quirky little video of his daughter giving birth feeling physically disturbed. So disturbed I look away constantly, till I catch Emily in tears going to the bathroom of the first class (which is right in front of our class). I get closer to ask her what's wrong, only to get a cold shoulder. And I don't know what fucked me up the most, her attitude or this cringy video being almost twenty minutes long and me not having enough balls to tell him to stop it.
The pilot and his amazing texan accent wish us a nice stay at the colonies, thanking us for using Venus 3000 (yeah, wow) while I try to shut my helmet until the 'click'. We get out around this orange fog with some beacons shining in rhythm from far away. The reception authorities takes each one of us by the hand like babies until we get used to the different pressure. I take off my helmet first and try to communicate with this nice lady that holds me like her nephew about the distance from the hotel. I'm tired as hell and ready to sleep to my death.
I wake up from another notification from Sam-the-assistant-manager, underlying her previous nice words and sending me the schedule that I have to follow. If I can manage my time right, I could even get a second to pee between all those events, interviews and tryouts to get some footage (since the colonies authorities, for a reason I didn't quite get, were too willing to look for photos or videos you took during your time here, something that makes me understand what really got Tyler sick). But I shouldn't complain. It's only ten days and I got through the first one.
I get down, take just three bits and flee asking the reception about the Virtual Plaza where my appointment with the summer deputy head of the souther colony waits for me. I take the train get blown away by the ride. This so goddamn blue sky with small orange scratches from the dome, those weird asymmetrical buildings, those huge statues and columns resting on a never ending grass field and this coast. Yeah, coast as like sea (well, it's a big realistic pool, but still). I'm legit shook like the other passengers inside the train.
Somewhat irritated but gentle enough to not show it that much, Stephen Wang welcomes me with his uptight gestures and slick but uncomfortable warm suit (the colonies are always quite hot and summery). He looks a bit cold and all, but I get around him easily. Asking for some pics and then some answers to standard questions that no one gets uncomfortable with (about how he got here, how he feels, what the hell are the americans trying to build in this place along with these weird security measures) except for his security beast that checks my camera for footage and carries Stephen back to his car.
I walk around Virtual Plaza and see several kids bouncing around, playing with the slightly tweaked gravity in front of their disgustingly rich parents. Next to them some plain tourists playing with their drinks (it's too early for that) and a whole group of other tourists walking to the beach. I follow them creepily (they are in their swimsuits and I'm full clothed with a camera around my neck, just so everyone can get a bit uncomfortable) to this (close to a mile wide) shore where I let water touch my naked feet. It takes time to grasp what I really touch and/or feel.
Tired as hell, I return to the hotel to eat for the noon, getting several Venus facts from the speakers (couldn't give less of a fuck about them, though). And there she is once again, Emily, standing at the bar looking absolutely gorgeous, wearing something that costs like three times my salary. I get noticed, I smile at her, she smiles back and I decide to get to her while a old and bald penguin dude takes her by her hand for a spin. Not really hungry after that. I'm walking to the elevator with her quietly closing in. I look at her by accidentand see the same bitterness in her eyes, just like then before the take off.
Sleeping is not so easy on Venus. They tried all they could to simulate earth-like conditions (like day and night scheduling etc.), but that can't stop my biological clock from going nuts. So I fill my nights by looking at old convos with Emily as I deliberately avoiding her for the rest of the day. As for the work stuff, I managed to convince Sam that the communication delays are a pain in the ass and I can't send daily reports to get away with them. Sometimes I go for long night time walks, but those irish students looking for trouble and those faux cops that caught me filming the artificial forest the other day restrict me from enjoying anything but my room's satellite tv.
Days get so dry, dull and empty, too. When I don't have to ask the exact same things to weird army guys and Elon Musk wannabees, I need to listen at tiring speeches that all end up in how advanced and cool and hip this test is not only for humanity, but every form of life back to Earth. From top notch scientists and disgustingly rich white people to stupid youtubers and Robbie Williams (not kidding), all those people came exclusively to praise this initiative of the western world that officially puts the tombstone on the soviets after nearly ninety years of competition (not that it was that hard in the first place).
It only took a couple walks for me to see what those colonies had to offer me. All of those bright white columns, weird looking hotels and disturbingly tall palm trees just seem unpolished and lazy to me. Sand's just grated rocks, the sea smells like a chemistry lab, the food is processed to death and even the temperature gets a bit weird sometimes. The colonies are nothing more than huge hotel facilities, sprawling sparsely over a small island that floats in a large swimming pool. I'm fed up hearing about the hope of the future that starts herewhen I see old, pale fucks keeping on eating foie gras and using oil. This whole project is an ad that targets only the Kylie Jenners of this world that have a daily life of eating, sleeping and swimming in cash.
Sam-the-assistant-manager sure begs for these kind of reviews, but I'm risking my head for her. I only send her a draft without a slump of criticism, because I don't want any of those faux cops fucking with me just for writing bad things for them.
Three days before my flight, Stephen Wang drags me with his nerdy hands for another tour around the colonies. Oh look, art exhibitions, dance festivals, Robbie Williams (I needed this second time to make sure it was really him), even a luxurious cruise with a boat that smells just like burnt plastic. All slapping newand moderninside their names. All getting more and more random in my eyes. Wang clearly sees my disappointment and becomes troubled. He asks me if everything's fine, I respond with yeap, why notand not one second later I just leave my breakfast inches from the stern of the boat. So many days I spent here, and I only got to succeed in making a successful thirty year old career man lose his shit and getting nauseous from a pool. A fucking swimming pool.
Two days before my flight, my article looks like it's never gonna make it, especially with Sam's moaning about me giving away my hidden footage to Wang as an act of goodwill to the poor guy. I could finish the article regardless, but my mind starts to fade away. I spend more time looking at the forest from the window of my room than typing. It's already dark when a knock on the door kills my boredom. Emily knows me well enough to put aside my difficulty at finding something to say, dragging me to the beach with this cute rudeness that only she can pull off.
-You can be really mean if you want to
What can you say to her when she's one hundred percent right? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
-It's really hard for me to deal with your presence anymore, Emily. Try to understand me.
-Still, I don't deserve this kind of behavior;
-I know. And as far as you should know, I'm glad I found you here
-Really?
Really. But...
-But I don't quite prefer I found you here. It's not good for me to see you after all this times. I don't know how I could make this sound less douchey, but it is what it is.
I'm holding her hand to make her stay. She tries really hard not to hit me.
-You're making it so damn hard to trust you, you know that? I know you for so long and I still can't figure out if you crack jokes or turn serious.
I have a really hard time figuring this out myself, as well.
-I'm serious. It bugs me to act like nothing happened and this bald fuck touching you doesn't make it easier for me.
-You didn't seem to have this problem before, right? Let me remind you that it was you that didn't want to commit. What changed?
-Nothing
-You want it your way, as always
-Just like you, right? Only difference I have to wait for you to decide what exactly you want from me
-You're so bitter
-I'm in love
I can't stand fighting with her. She can't stand fighting with me. That's why we slow down a bit. We get cautious at our words now, we're testing each other's defences to avoid getting hurt.
-John passed away
-I'm really sor-
-No. No you are not. It's ok I guess, but I spent so much time with him and it got to me pretty hard
-You are wrong, I'm not that petty
-I was hunting you down for so many days to talk to you. You were hiding from me
It's difficult to make myself look more stupid.
-How you got here?
-John's health went south and he didn't want me to see him like this. It was something like a last gift from him.
-So you got this penguin to comfort you
-Please. Please don't make me regret my decision to talk to you. Please. I needed you in my life so damn much
I hate her for doing this. Not because she does it deliberately, but because it works. Most of the time.
-I think we have to stop having any type of contact, Emily. We can't do this anymore, can we?
I believe in what I say, I know I do, but it feels wrong actually saying, if that makes sense.
-You can't make it so damn easy to me. You just can't
-What do you mean?
-I do not intend to come back. I'm gonna stay here. Not coming back, like at all. You understand?
Oh I understand all right.
Just one day before my flight, I'm buried by the bed sheets and Emily. She plays with my hair and I lock myself on her as the purple dome turns to morning blue. Everything seems so right and wrong. Only this time there's no husband getting between us, just me feeling read to fall right off the window.
-Do not forget me, ok? I know I wont
And that's my soul being smashed to million pieces.
I greet her being super dazed, no idea why. My mouth is dry from the stress, the joy, the exhaustion and I can't help but puke inside the (empty, luckily) elevator. I'm sick, like legit sick. So sick that I lock myself back to my room ust to cry for god knows how long, only to get stopped by Sam. Where's the article, up your ass you fucking moron. I only got ten hours to get my head straight and there's no time for your dumb shit.
It is the same old lady who took me by the hand on my arrival that awaits with a big smile. I try to smile back but my lips are not responding. I could swear she almost pushes me to the plane, before I catch myself dragging my steps like a child. I get my helmet off to let me guilts breathe, trying to figure out how big I fucked up, how much of a coward I am for running away or how dumb I was for thinking about staying for her.
My condition's only getting worse. My ears are ringing as the passengers are sitting around me. They are somehow trapping me and I try to squeeze my eyelids until everything gets blurred so I can't understand much of what's going on and my plan's working pretty well until this australian chick shouts at the air hostess because I give her the creeps. I get up and get to the bathroom. I splash my face, look at my reflection, get disgusted, vomit and get out even more dazed than before.
A couple hundred of old ladies are staring at me with their either frighten eyes, waiting to see just where will I collapse. Unfortunately for them, Emily picks me up and sits me back down. Emily. Emily got a ticket and leaves. She leaves. She changed her mind and she leaves. With me.
-Be careful now, You all right?
-Emily, I think I love y-
-What?
Her face freezes, like I said something wrong to her. Her cheeks lose all of their color, those markings on her neck disappear, her long hair get more and more grey. I'm panicking, what the fuck is going on? Why is she like that? What did I do?
Nothing. I did nothing. It took a minute to get back to normal but here I am, stuck in my seat before sleeping, feeling the need to dig a hole on the floor and jump inside. Because it wasn't her.
It wasn't her.
It wasn't her.
Drunk
Pairing: Josh Dun x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of drinking, swearing
Word Count: 1449
Your phone started to ring, waking you up from the dream you had been having. Groaning loudly, you rolled over and answered.
“Hello?” your voice was hoarse from sleep.
“Heeeeeeey, sweetheart.”
You recognized Josh’s voice immediately. And by the use of his favored pet name for you, he was drunk off his ass yet again.
“What do you want, Josh?” you asked.
Dealing with drunk Josh was the last thing you felt like doing right now, especially since he had woken you up in the middle of the night.
“I was just calling to tell you how beautiful you are.”
You felt your heart start to race, even though his words were empty. You were far from the first woman that he had told that to tonight.
“Do you need me to pick you up?” you grumbled.
“Nah, the night is just getting started.”
You got up from bed and grabbed some shorts that you had tossed aside the night before.
“I’m coming to get you, where are you?”
“I don’t need to be picked up.”
You somehow managed to pull on your shorts with one hand.
“I’ll ask you one more time, where are you?”
You heard him groan loudly on the other line, “The bar on the other side of town. The one with the green door.”
“I’ll be there in ten,” you said shortly before ending the call.
You could hear the thumping music from inside the bar before you had even shut the car off. A couple of people were leaned against the brick building, smoking cigarettes and laughing with one another. You locked the car behind you and walked through the door.
Smoke clouded most of the room as you looked around for the familiar bright yellow of Josh’s hair. You quickly spotted him sat at the bar, flirting relentlessly with some blonde. He had obviously forgotten about you coming to pick him up.
“Alright, Josh, that’s enough,” you said, grabbing him by the arm as you walked up to him.
The girl looked at you with disdain, “Who are you?” she spat.
“A friend,” you shot her a look before pulling Josh off the stool and dragging him out.
“Look at you, getting all feisty,” Josh laughed as you walked him through the bar.
You rolled your eyes and brought him out to the car.
“Are you going to be able to get in on your own or are you so drunk that you can’t open a door properly?” you hissed.
“I got it, sweetheart,” he said as he opened the door.
You climbed inside and turned on the car. Josh clicked his seatbelt and leaned his chair back.
“You better not throw up all over my car,” you warned.
“I don’t plan on it, sweetheart.”
Josh continued to call you pet names and flirt with you on the way home, it was what happened when he got drunk. Tyler had always been the fun one to be around when he was drunk, although it was rare that that happened anymore.
You parked in your normal spot on the side of the building. Josh took awhile to get out of the car, much to your dismay.
“Do you have your apartment key?” you asked.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I wasn’t planning on coming home, if you know what I mean,” he said, shooting you a wink.
“You’re atrocious,” you groaned.
Josh trailed slowly behind you as you walked across the parking lot. More than a few times he almost fell face first onto the pavement, causing you to spin around in a panic. By the time you reached the door to the lobby, you were one stumble away from punching him straight in the nose just to knock him out. Dragging him upstairs would be lightyears easier than what you were going through now.
“You should wear those shorts more often, they make your butt look good,” he slurred.
You punched the elevator button before pulling your shorts down a bit further. Josh continued to stumble around behind you.
“I cannot believe you left your apartment key at home,” you grumbled as you stepped into the elevator.
“I already told you, I didn’t plan on coming home,” he slurred. “Even now I might not,” he smirked, slinging an arm around your shoulder.
“Yeah, you’ll be sleeping on my couch.”
Josh groaned loudly as you stomped out of the elevator. You walked up to the door and swung it open before spinning around and waiting for a stumbling Josh to make his way into the apartment.
“I just don’t see why I can’t go home, it’s right there!” he exclaimed.
“Because I’m not going to bother Tyler with your stupidity,” you said, shutting and locking the door behind you. “Take off your shoes.”
He bent down and unlaced his shoes before kicking them off by the wall.
“Go lay down on the couch while I grab you some blankets.”
He started to walk in the general direction of the living room, so you headed down the hall towards the closet. A blanket was stuffed up on the top shelf and after a brief moment of executing your climbing skills, you had it tucked safely under your arm. The pillow was easier to grab, being only at about eye level.
Josh was already half asleep on the couch when you returned. Deciding just to let him sleep since he was less annoying that way anyway, you gently lifted up his head and slid the pillow under it. He barely moved as you threw the blanket over him and ensured his feet were covered.
You took a moment to watch him, just to make sure that he was stable before returning to your own room. Your pajamas were still in a discarded heap on the floor, so you quickly pulled them on and crawled back into your bed.
When you woke up the next morning, Josh was still fast asleep on the couch. You lazily shuffled across the wooden floors to the kitchen to grab yourself a bowl of cereal.
Just as you started to walk around the counter to the stools, Josh started stirring on the couch. You hopped into a stool and spun around to face him.
“‘Morning, princess,” you smiled as his eyes blinked open.
“Where am I-woah-ow,” he said, reaching up and grabbing his head.
You hopped back off the stool, leaving your cereal temporarily abandoned in pursuit of some pain meds. Based on how drunk he had been acting last night, his headache was bound to be a terrible one.
“Take these,” you said, shoving a couple of pills and a glass of water into his hand.
While he was doing that, you grabbed your cereal and walked back over to the armchair, throwing your legs over the side.
“What happened last night?” he asked.
“Let’s see, it started when you called me at three in the morning to ‘tell me how beautiful I am’. Then I had to come and pick you up from a bar on the other side of town, except you didn’t have your apartment key because you hadn’t planned on coming home last night, so I brought you in here and stuck you on the couch,” you smiled sarcastically.
He stared at you blankly for a little while, but whether it was because he was processing things slowly or trying to tell if you were telling the truth, you couldn’t tell.
“I’m really sorry I put you through that.”
“Wasn’t the first time,” you grumbled. “You should just be happy that you didn’t call Tyler.”
Your conversation was interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Speak of the devil,” you said under your breath as you stood up.
Based on how these nights usually went down, the chances of it being Tyler at the door were very high. Sure enough, when you swung the door open, a very worried looking Tyler was on the other side.
“Have you seen Josh recently?”
You swung the door open further, making Josh visible. The worried look on Tyler’s face quickly turned to anger as he stormed inside.
“Wait,” you said, just as Tyler opened his mouth.
Tyler spun around to face you, his eyebrows knit together and his eyes tight.
“As much as I love you two, do you mind taking this to your own apartment?”
“Fine,” Tyler managed.
Tyler stormed quickly out of the apartment, followed less than closely by a shuffling Josh.
“Good luck,” you said, giving him a reassuring pat on the back.
You swung the door closed and walked back over to where your cereal was sitting, happily adding another Drunk Josh fiasco under your belt.
Embers of the Sun
Pairings: Bella/Paul, eventual Angela/Leah
A/N: I’m happy to take any suggestions if you want something in particular to happen. It can be something as minor as Quill giving Embry a high five or more significant like Bella ramming Edward’s Volvo with her truck after he provided Tyler with a chance to ask her out. The whole point of writing this fic is so we can all enjoy it together!
(Note that this doesn’t mean I’m going to change the plot on demand!)
To wrap this up:
Imprinting is still a thing in this AU, BUT I’ve developed my take on it for this story. If you’re interested in knowing more about my feelings on Imprinting, you can read it here.
I’m also thinking about writing the main storyline in Bella’s POV and keeping alternating POV’s and drabbles that happen in the same universe separate so that it’s easier to navigate. Seriously, go wild with the suggestions, guys!
I’ve taken the liberty of changing the ages of some of the characters. Bella will be 19 and a senior when she moves to Forks, so only Edward and Alice are still in high school. She arrives two years later than in canon. Paul and Jared will be the same age as Bella. Sam and Emily will both be aged somewhere between 25-30 (like their actors).
Enjoy!
Chapter 1
Bella closed her book with a sigh as the seatbelt sign flickered on. The plane would be landing soon. She’d passed the time reading, but the story wasn’t her usual cup of tea, preferring Jane Austen to all else. She ran her thumb over the raised picture of a spyglass on the cover in contemplation. The Collector by James Fowle was not a Victorian romance, and each page Bella read dispelled any romantic notion she might have had about such obsessive love.
Her mother had been going through one of her phases when she’d purchased it, having fancied herself to be a lepidopterist after she’d bought a collection pinned butterflies in an antique store. She hadn’t checked the back of the novel to see what it was actually about, having thought it to be a guide to butterfly collecting. Bella remembered her excited gasp when her mother realized the book was about a deranged stalker instead. Another phase bloomed, and Renée now bought every serial killer study and documentary she could get her hands on, forgetting about her beloved butterflies. She’d put her butterfly collection on display in the hallway and Bella could admit that they were beautiful in a morbid sort of way that unnerved her a little. Their colorful wings were much more appealing if they were alive and could flutter from flower to flower. Not pinned down and spread in death to an old frame.
A stewardess asked her to put up her tray table, and Bella shoved the book into her rucksack and kicked it under the seat in front of her. She put the small cactus her mother had given her as a memento in her lap. She wondered if Renée had forgotten that she’d inherited her green thumbs, which were nonexistent, and that the climate in Forks would be the kiss of death for the plant if Bella weren’t careful.
Her stomach plummeted as the plane dipped and she closed her eyes and took deep calming breaths through her nose. She wasn’t fond of flying, preferring to keep her feet firmly on the ground, and was relieved when they landed in Port Angeles’s small airport with little fanfare.
She spent a good minute hauling her large suitcase off the conveyor belt in the baggage claim. Renée had insisted on helping Bella pack, but she’d forgotten how cold it was up North and Bella had spent a good hour putting all her shorts and tank tops back into her closet in Phoenix. While she would miss Arizona, its warmth and the anonymity that came with living in a metropolis, she had to keep an open mind about Forks, for her father’s sake. She knew she’d hurt him deeply by refusing to visit him for the last four years, demanding that he travel all the way to California to see her.
Nerves bubbled up to the surface as she walked through the arrival gates. She hadn’t seen her dad for so long, and she was riddled with guilt that the main reason she was moving to him was that she didn’t want to impose on Renée and Phil anymore. They were newly wedded, and Bella couldn’t count how many times she’d walked in on them in various compromising positions. She hadn’t hesitated to bring up Fork’s when they decided to move to Florida with Phil’s baseball career. Bella was relieved when they agreed to her plan. A few years ago, she might have felt resentful, but she’d matured enough to see their genuine wish for her happiness and wellbeing.
She would finish her last year in high school in Forks, and it filled her with tremulous excitement to live with her dad for the first time. She had the whole summer to settle down and reacquaint herself with him until school would start in two weeks.
“Bells!” Her father called when he caught sight of her. He was wearing his uniform and Bella could see that he had a few more crows feet since she’d last seen him. He opened his arm, and she hastened to him, feeling genuine happiness as she was swept up into his arms. “I missed you, sweetheart!”
“Dad!” She returned his embrace, overwhelmed by his joy at seeing her. Prolonged absence from him had made her start to doubt his affections for her. She’d imagined an awkward greeting and a quiet trip home in his police vehicle.
“How are you? Was the trip okay?” he asked her, pulling away to study her with warm eyes.
“Yeah, I’m a bit sore from sitting for so long, but otherwise it was fine,” Bella said, and he clapped her on the back.
“Well, you better stretch your legs now because it’s a long ride home,” he said, taking her suitcase from her hand and waved away her protests. “I got a surprise for you when we get home.”
“Really? You didn’t need to get me anything, dad. I’m staying with you, and that’s enough for me,” Bella said in dismay. She wasn’t expecting any gifts and hadn’t thought to get Charlie anything. It seemed ungrateful of her now that she couldn’t show him how glad she was that he’d come to pick her up.
“Oh, heck, Bells. Let an old man spoil his daughter once in a while. I haven’t seen you in so long, and I promise that you’ll need it while you’re staying here,” he said gruffly, not meeting her eyes as they walked out of the airport.
“As long as you give me your word that you won’t get me anything else I’m happy,” Bella said grudgingly.
“You haven’t changed,” Charlie said with a small amount of relief and Bella rolled her eyes. She’d never liked it when people made a fuss about her, except when it was Christmas or her birthday.
“I’ve changed plenty,” she protested.
“Yeah, your hair has gotten longer,” Charlie observed, and Bella caught the wistful note in his tone. She could remember the times she’d sat on a stool while her father trimmed her hair with a pair of shears, both singing to the tunes of the Beatles in his kitchen. Her heart warmed at the memory, and she gave him a small smile.
“Well, I didn’t have my personal barber to cut it,” she said teasingly, and Charlie brightened. They pulled out of the airport and made it onto the highway in the direction of Forks.
“Do you want me to give you a trim when we get home?” he asked after a moment of silence. He’d hesitated in bringing it up like he feared rejection and Bella was quick to reassure him.
“Yeah, I’d like that,” she said quietly, staring out of the front window to avoid Charlie’s eyes. They’d never broached the subject of Bella’s distance, but this felt like a small olive branch between the both of them. She was here now.
“Good, ‘cause no daughter of mine will be seen with split ends!” he said with mock grimness, and Bella burst into laughter. She’d missed him.
He turned on the radio when the silence became strained, and a wave of nostalgia rushed over her when his old CD of classical rock started playing. Charlie hadn’t changed either, keeping the same collection of CDs in his glove compartment, and Bella took a small amount of comfort from it as they hummed to the tune.
There was an overwhelming display of green and gray that sped past their windshield, and Bella huddled deeper into her coat. She didn’t miss the cold and the wet weather of Washington, but it had been a long time since she’d seen a forest or the sea. She wondered if Charlie visited La Push anymore, remembering the times they’d spent on First Beach, or if he still fished with Billy Black and Harry Clearwater.
Her question was answered when they drove up to Charlie’s house, now Bella’s home as well, and saw two big pickup trucks in the driveway. Billy’s son, Jacob, was helping his father out into his wheelchair when Charlie greeted them cheerfully.
“What brings you here boys?”
“Sue sent us over with some more of Harry’s fish fry, told us to put it in your freezer,” Billy answered, tossing a bag of wrapped fish to Charlie, who fumbled to catch it.
“You could have handed it to me,” Charlie said wryly as he closed the distance between them to clasp Billy’s hand in greeting. Billy laughed and thumped him on the back. Charlie held up the bag. “Tell her thanks. I was all out.”
Bella swallowed her nervousness as she stepped out of the car and waved at them in greeting. She’d learned through trial and error that ‘fake it until you make it’ was the best approach to social interactions. She hadn’t seen them in three years, and Jacob had grown like a weed since then, now almost as tall as Charlie. The times for making mud-cakes had long since. A broad smile split across his face when he caught sight of her.
“Bella!” He nearly lifted her off the ground in his excitement, and Bella laughed, overwhelmed by his enthusiastic greeting. His childhood crush on her hadn’t ebbed it seemed, and she smiled at him awkwardly, uncertain how she should reciprocate without encouraging his affections.
“Let the girl breathe, Jacob,” Billy scolded and nudged him out of the way to give his own greeting, shaking Bella’s hand firmly. “My how you’ve grown! You hardly reached my waist the last time I say you.”
“She was thirteen. Besides, my daughter was never that short, Billy,” Charlie said with wry amusement as Bella gave a surprised laugh. She’d forgotten how Charlie’s dry humor made his jokes seem accidental, and it helped her loosened up as the two men bantered good-naturedly. It’d been a long time since she’d seen her father look so relaxed, having only communicated with him through brief phone calls. Both of them were reticent by nature.
“Charlie hasn’t shut up about you Bella, ever since you told him you were coming here,” Billy teased.
“Oh, come on. There’s no need to exaggerate,” Charlie said and turned away from them with a light blush. “Keep it up, and I’ll slip you into the mud.”
“Not if I ram you in the ankles first,” Billy warned, and Charlie jumped back when he pretended to make good on his threat. Bella couldn’t believe that two adult men, one of them being the Chief of Police, were fooling around in the middle of a street like a pair of rowdy boys.
“Are they always like this?”
“Unfortunately. Come on, you’re gonna love this, Bella,” Jacob said and grabbed her hand to lead her over to the behemoth truck resting beside the one the Blacks had arrived in. He patted it. “Charlie got you a homecoming present.” Bella felt a burst of excitement when she realized that this must be Charlie’s surprise.
“Dad?” she called him over, hardly believing that he’d gotten her a car. She forgot her dismay at Jacob’s casual touch when she saw Charlie’s nod. “I can’t believe you!” She rushed over to the driver’s seat and pulled open the heavy door to climb inside.
“Yep, I just bought it off of Billy,” Charlie said, and Jacob hopped up and hung onto the side to watch her admire the console and test the steering wheel. Then she noticed that something was missing.
“Um, where’s the gear stick?” she asked when she didn’t find it sticking out of the floor like she was used to.
“Oh, it’s a 'three on the tree,’” Jacob explained and leaned over her to point out the shift which was positioned behind the steering wheel.
“I’ve never driven a car like this,” Bella admitted, flummoxed at the design. She’d been prepared to drive a manual car, used to her mother’s battered old Toyota back home.
“It’s old, a 1953 Chevy, but Jacob here fixed it up. I thought you’d rather drive yourself to school instead of getting a lift in my police car,” Charlie said with a grin and Bella returned it with apprehension. She was touched by his thoughtfulness because she’d dreaded to deal with the attention that came with having the Chief of Police as a chauffeur. Considering the mortification of being nineteen-years-old opposed to eighteen and still in high school, the sentiment was appreciated.
“Yeah, it should run smoothly but don’t hesitate to call me if something comes up,” Jacob said, his face glowing with pride. “I’ve been driving one like this for years so I can teach you how to drive it.”
“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that since you only got your permit back in January,” Charlie said, and Jacob glanced at the shining badge on his chest sheepishly.
“I’ll remember that,” Bella said, and privately wondered if she could teach herself automobile repairs. It was a handy skill to have, and Jacob’s obvious crush was making her a little uncomfortable. She’d always thought of him as the younger brother she’d never had.
“I don’t have a shift so why don’t we go for a test drive tomorrow,” Charlie offered.
“Yeah, why don’t you come to the Rez,” Jacob said, turning to her with the full force of his smile. “It’ll be like old times!”
“Why not,” Bella agreed, infected by their combined enthusiasm. She chided herself for making plans to avoid him and made herself promise to treat Jacob with fairness. He was the only person her age she knew and had always been welcoming during her short visits.
“Good, good,” Billy said and clapped his son on the back. “We need to get going, son. Sue needs that garden hose, and I’m not prepared to face her wrath if we keep her waiting any longer.”
“Bye, Bella,” Jacob said with reluctance but took care of Billy’s wheelchair after he hefted himself into their truck.
“We’ll see you tomorrow,” Charlie called as he carried Bella’s suitcase into the house. Bella stood awkwardly as she waited for the Black’s to leave and smiled weakly when Billy rolled down his window.
“Charlie missed you, Bella,” he said, and she blushed as they pulled out of the drive.
Bella retrieved her cactus from Charlie’s car and made her way inside. Nothing had really changed; Charlie’s armchair was still in front the TV inside the living room, the walls painted a light blue, and the old ship in the bottle was even mounted above the fireplace.
Bella stopped to examine the pictures taken throughout the years of them together. The sight of her parents holding her as a babe and Renée’s dim eyes and tired smile while Charlie looked happier than Bella had ever seen him sent a jolt through her and she moved on. The one hanging at the base of the stairs showed a much lighter memory; Charlie giving a six-year-old Bella a piggyback ride while she beamed with a gap-toothed smile. Above it was a picture of a pre-teen Bella smiling awkwardly at the camera with Jacob’s arm around her hunched shoulders, and sharing its frame was a picture of her and Charlie eating off of plastic plates on a park bench. They were both laughing at something, and Bella remembered that Billy had taken the photo during her last visit when they’d had a picnic in La Push.
“I left everything like it was the last time you were here,” Charlie said when Bella found him in her room. He scratched the back of his neck and gestured around. “You’re free to change it as much as you like.”
“Thanks, dad.” She set her cactus on the windowsill, hoping the heat from the radiator and the sliver of sunlight would be enough to keep it alive.
“I cleared some shelves in the bathroom as well,” he continued. Bella nodded, and they shared a moment of strained silence, both trying to figure out what to say. Charlie finally cleared his throat. “I’ll let you get settled in. Call if you need anything.”
Bella nodded, grateful that he didn’t intend to hover and set to unpacking. She hefted her suitcase onto her bed and frowned when her nose was assaulted by the sickly sweet smell of strawberries and cheap sunscreen. It was not a pleasant combination. Bella pulled aside the first article of her clothing and cursed when she saw the white goopy mess.
“Ugh!” The tap on the bottle of sunscreen Renée must have snuck into her bag had cracked, and the air pressure had caused her supply of shampoo to burst. Bella threw down her shirt. “Dad, we got a bomb alert!”
“What!” Charlie shouted. Bella poked her head out of her room when she heard him thunder up the stairs.
“No! My shampoo exploded,” she exclaimed. He was fumbling with the walkie-talkie that was clipped to his uniform. Charlie liked to keep it on his person, even when he was off duty.
“Honey, you cannot do that to me.” He slumped against the rail with a sigh and put a hand to his chest as he tried to calm his heart. “I thought you were serious.”
“Sorry,” she grimaced, holding up a t-shirt that smelled overwhelmingly of strawberries. “Think my whole suitcase can fit inside your washing machine?”
Thankfully her white cotton shirt escaped unscathed, but the same could not be said for her jeans. Charlie helped her load everything into the machine and showed her how to turn it on.
“Why don’t you call your mom to let her know how your trip went and then we’ll eat dinner,” he asked. The sun had already set, but Bella knew her mother would be waiting to hear from her. Arizona was only one hour ahead of Washington, but Renée and Phil had a flight to Jacksonville early next morning. Bella didn’t have a cell phone, but Charlie kept a cordless landline, so she sat on her bed and listened to the dial tone.
“Bella, it that you, honey?” her mother’s voice crackled through when she picked up.
“Hey, mom.”
“How was the trip? Did you have any trouble during your layover in Seattle? Did Charlie come to pick you up?” Renée asked, sounding doubtful when she mentioned her ex-husband.
“Yes, yes. Everything went well. Charlie was waiting for me in Port Angeles, just like we’d discussed,” Bella reminded her. She wondered if other divorced parents were as occupied with being the better parent like Renée. “Did you put sunscreen in my bag?”
“I’m not sure. Why? Did you need it?” Renée asked distractedly.
“No, there was a tube in my suitcase, and it burst.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, honey!” Renée exclaimed. “I just thought that you might need it, you know if you decided to go to the beach - the one in La Push. You know that you can still get a sunburn even if it’s cloudy.”
“No, it’s fine, mom.” Bella didn’t dispute, having heard her mother’s lectures on the importance of protecting one’s skin to prevent cancer many times before. She changed the subject. “How’s the packing going?”
“Oh, Phil’s loading the moving truck as we speak. He’s been a godsend these past few days. You know how awful I am at packing,” she laughed, successfully diverted.
“Yeah.” Bella was relieved she hadn’t inherited her mother’s hoarding tendencies. They spoke for a moment.
“I can hear Phil calling. It was nice hearing from you, sweetie.” Renée said abruptly. “Call me if you need anything!”
“Bye, mom,” Bella said and sighed when she was met with the dial tone. She rolled out of bed and went to join her father.
Charlie was standing by the stove, poking the boiling potatoes with a fork to see if they were ready while two portions of Harry’s fish heated in a pan.
“Can you put the rest of this is the freezer?” He gestured at the bag Billy had brought which lay on the dining table. She picked it up and felt her brain stall when she saw the contents of his freezer. It was packed with frozen pre-cooked meals. With a huff, Bella put the fish in and turned to Charlie.
“How are you still alive, dad?”
Charlie barked out a surprised laugh, looking away sheepishly. “I usually eat at the diner.”
“Not while I live here,” Bella muttered as she lay the table. Charlie rolled a couple of potatoes onto their plates and divided the fish into two portions. They sat down and ate in companionable silence.
“I’m going grocery shopping as soon as possible. I can’t have you dying on my watch,” Bella said after she swallowed the last of her dinner.
“Take as much money as you need from the jar,” Charlie said good-naturedly, sitting back in his chair and pushing his empty plate away.
“Thanks, dad.” Bella took their empty plates to the sink. Charlie had gotten a dishwasher, and she started to clean up.
She was washing the frying pan when Charlie drew her attention by pulling out a chair and holding up his old pair of shears. “We’re still doing this aren’t we?”
“Yeah, just let me go and wash my hair,” Bella said. Charlie took the pan from her hands to dry it with a dish towel. She took a quick shower and used the remnant of her strawberry shampoo. Bella made a mental note to restock soon, or else she’d have to use Charlie’s scentless stuff.
She came downstairs, having dressed in a sweatshirt and a ratty pair of gym shorts she found in her old wardrobe. She handed Charlie her hairbrush as she dried her hair with a towel so she wouldn’t drip water everywhere. Neither of them spoke as Charlie trimmed a good two inches of her hair. The silence was only interrupted by the soft croon of the radio and the occasional gurgle of the dishwasher. The snips of the scissors relaxed Bella to the point where she started to doze off.
She yawned and startled when Charlie tapped her on the head. She was exhausted. He took the towel from her shoulders so she could stand up.
“Thanks, dad,” Bella said and rubbed the bleariness from her eyes with another jaw-breaking yawn.
“I’ll take care of the cleanup, Bells. You should get some rest,” Charlie murmured, and Bella nodded in agreement. She stumbled up to the bathroom and brushed her teeth sluggishly.
Bella melted into the mattress her new - old - bed. The exertion of her travels made itself known, and she listened to the soft sound of the game Charlie was watching in the living room as she drifted off. She was out like a light in a matter of minutes.
Are you “with” the very last person you kissed? >> You could say that. Ever dated/kissed a someone with the name Casey, Tyler, Ryan, Jordan, Colton, Rebecca, Samantha, Lauren, Taylor, or Ashley? >> None of these. But this does remind me that I had a crush on a Ryan for a long time, and then as it turns out, he and our mutual friend who I also had a crush on were interested in each other, but it didn’t work out. Was your last kiss, standing up, sitting down, or lying down? >> Lying down. Are you happy with the choices you’ve made? >> Some of them. Are you excited for anything? >> The Chicago trip. To a lesser extent, the Holland (Michigan, not Holland the country) day-trip. Just... anything that gets me out of this area.
Do you hate the last person you kissed? >> Of course not. Can Calah is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. You’re stuck in an elevator with one of your worst enemies, what do you do? >> I don’t know, considering I don’t have any enemies, let alone worst ones. Will this weekend be a good one? >> Hopefully. Are you mad at someone right now? >> No. Do you like to listen to the radio in the car? >> Sparrow usually plays her iPod in the car. Do you sleep with a fan on? >> In the summer, yeah. How is your hair right now? >> Still very short. It’s in the stage that I think looks best on me. Have you ever broken up with someone for someone else? >> No. How many windows are open on your computer? >> Three (Chrome, Evernote, Discord). How tall are you? >> Five-four. Is something bothering you? >> Yeah, a weird twinge in my tit. Bodies are fucking weird. Have you ever taken a shower with anyone before? >> Yes. Have you ever laughed at something that wasn’t meant to be funny? >> Sure. Have you ever told someone of the opposite sex “Fuck you”? >> Yes. Do you like to cuddle? >> In headspace it’s about all I do, but in meatspace that’s not as... easy. Have you done anything sneaky lately? >> Probably. Is your hair clean? >> Clean-ish. Last night, did you go to sleep smiling? >> I don’t think so. But there’s really no way for me to tell what exactly I’m doing as sleep descends. Were you happy when you woke up today? >> I was vaguely melancholy -- not actively sad, not in a bad mood, just kinda... grey. It just be’s like that, I guess. What are you drinking right now? >> Nothing actively, but I have water nearby. Do you wear your seatbelt in the car? >> Sure. Does someone have feelings for you? >> Sure. Have you ever been cheated on? >> No. Are you hard to please? >> Not in my opinion. I’m definitely uncompromising and demanding in certain areas, but overall my adaptability usually wins out. What are you craving right now? >> Nothing. How are you feeling right now? >> Still grey. I think I’m mostly just sleepy at this point. What are you sick of? >> Meh. Are you missing anyone/something? >> Nah. Relationship to the last person you called? >> --- Could you date someone shorter than you? >> Sure. Is there anybody you just wish would fall off the planet? >> Hmm. Do you wear glasses? >> No. Where did you sleep last night? >> In my bed. ... “Bed”. I hate futons. Do you straighten your hair? >> No. What color shirt are you wearing? >> Grey. Do you have a best friend? >> Can Calah is the closest thing to that concept, so I just use him as an answer. Do you wish you had the chance to go back in time and change something now? >> No. Who is the last person you got a text from? >> Sparrow. Are you excited for winter? >> Not right now, I’m not. It just passed into spring around here, let me live. When are you at your happiest? >> When the spectre of mortality isn’t hanging over my head. Is there anything you wish you did today? Why haven’t you done it? >> Nah. Do you prefer to spend your time indoors or outdoors? >> I prefer to have a combination of both. What were you doing before you started this survey? >> Playing Animal Crossing Pocket Camp and then checking Instagram. Can you honestly say that you love yourself? >> Yes. How many people have you kissed? >> Quite a few. Do you just feel awkward when you dance? >> Sometimes, but that’s a general feeling-ungainly-in-my-body feeling, not particularly about dancing. Do you think you spend too much time feeling upset? >> No. Is there anyone you would seriously punch right now if you had the chance? >> No. Do you own a pair of uggs? >> No. What are your plans for tomorrow? >> Probably showering, hopefully going to Plato’s Closet. Has the person you have feelings for ever told you that you’re attractive? >> Can Calah tells me sometimes (but usually he doesn’t have to say anything to convey it, ya dig). Sparrow says I’m cute. Can you get over people easily? >> Apparently. Do you believe that there are certain circumstances where cheating is okay? >> No. How was your weekend? >> Kinda wack but we did get boba and Krispy Kreme so that was lit. Do you know anyone with the same birthday as you? >> I don’t remember. How do you feel right now? >> I answered this already and the answer has not changed in the past 5 minutes. Do you hide your feelings or show them? >> Depends on the feeling, the circumstance, the company... Do you like to have long hair or short hair? >> I prefer my hair to be short because I struggle to maintain it when it’s longer than a couple inches. But I like long-haired styles, in which case that’s what wigs are for. What is the last thing you cooked today? >> I didn’t cook today. What do you always take with you? >> PKW (phone, keys, wallet), and lip balm. Last person you drove around in a car with? >> --- Do you think relationships are hard? >> As hard as anything else about being alive. What are your plans for this weekend? >> There’s a lot of repeats going on here. Any friends who are constantly venting about their significant other? >> No. Have you ever been ice-skating? >> No. Does the sound of rain at night help you sleep? >> Sure. Have you ever seen an albino person, in person? >> I don’t think so. Do you like Fuze drinks? >> I seem to remember liking the one I tried. Did the end of Hamilton make you sad? >> I haven’t seen it. Have you ever worn a pair of scrubs? >> Yes. Do you obsessively apply lip-gloss or lip balm? >> I guess you could say that. My lips dry out and chap really easily, so it’s either pick at them compulsively like I’ve been doing since I was a child, or constantly apply lip balm. At least the latter is preventing harm instead of causing it. Anything in your room that you’re hiding from your parents or someone else? >> No. Do you think you’d have what it takes to shoot someone if you had to protect yourself? >> I don’t know. I’ve literally never been in that situation, so trying to predict my behaviour is just silly. What’s your most noticeable flaw? >> I don’t know, considering what is most noticeable about someone varies from observer to observer. And what’s your best feature? >> Ditto. Have you ever walked into a massive cobweb? >> Nah, not a massive one. When you can tell that someone’s lying, do you call them out on it? >> Occasionally, but oftentimes I just let them go ahead with it. It usually doesn’t affect me one way or the other. Also, there’s always the likelihood that I’m wrong, so, you know. Have you ever hallucinated? >> Sure. Do you find serial killers fascinating? >> Not particularly. Do you like Musicals? >> Yes. Is your hair damaged? >> Nah, doesn’t seem to be. Do you live with anyone that you try to avoid at all costs? >> No. Who was the last person you threw out of your life? >> Hmm. Are you wearing socks? >> No. Do you regret something you did yesterday? >> No. When was the last time you cried? >> Middle of last week. Why were you crying? >> I elaborated on the last survey I did, and I don’t feel like repeating it. Whats the last thing you ate? >> A doughnut. What kind of bottoms are you wearing? >> Black pajama pants with the Slytherin logo on them. What do you hear right now? >> Me typing, a plane overhead, other ambient sounds from outside. How many hours did you sleep last night? >> Six or so. Is something bothering you right now? >> Nothing concrete. In the past week have you gotten sick? >> Very briefly. In the past week have you felt stupid? >> Sure. In the past week have you got your hair cut? >> No. What were you doing at 9 AM this morning? >> Probably playing games on my phone. In the past week have you felt sad? >> Sure. Has someone disappointed you recently? >> No. Do you think relationships are ever really worth it? >> Sure. If you could pack up and move, would you? >> I sure would. Do you hate when people smoke around you? >> As long as they’re not blowing smoke in my face obnoxiously, I don’t care. The smell is a little noxious to me now that I’ve quit, but I can deal with it. Who have you texted in the last 24 hours? >> No one.
10 Tips To Make Your Next Flight A Little More Enjoyable...
#1 - CHECK YOUR LUGGAGE
Take the time to check all your luggage. Even the carry on bag that you put above the seat when you get on the plane. Taking as little on the plane as possible helps free up space and creates less anxiety for me. I sit and watch travelers try to force carry on bags into overhead compartments while reaching over people, almost hitting them with an elbow to the forehead. Getting off the plane is no less stressful with a carry on bag. It never fails that one person takes way too long to get an overhead item and causes everyone’s blood pressure to skyrocket while watching the wrestling match they are trying to get ahold of the carry on before it falls on their face the overhead. So for my sake and for yours… check your luggage.
#2 - IF YOU HAVE A CARRY ON BAG- CHECK IT AT THE GATE
You might be saying to yourself, “But Royce, I don’t want to spend the money to check a bag, plus I get one free carry on when I travel.” I have a little trick to get past that. Once you get past TSA with your carry on bag, check your bag at the gate. Every flight I have ever been on, before they begin to board the plane, they ask people to check their bags because they don’t have enough overhead space. So do what I do, check your bag at the gate. You get to check it FOR FREE, and then you don’t have to worry about it when boarding and getting off the place. Plus, if it is a one way flight, it has hardly any chance of getting lost because they put it directly on the plane from the gate.
#3 - DON’T BE IN SUCH A RUSH TO GET OFF
I have a couple pet peeves when traveling. One is the race that people have to jump up, get their carry on bad, and get off the plane. They sit and wait for the seatbelt light to turn off as if their life depended on it. I usually stay seated and keep my headphones on. There is no point in standing up to wait 5-10 minutes until I can walk off the plane. I just stay seated. Since I have no carry on luggage, it isn’t like I need to jockey for a position to get it anyway. So don’t be in a rush to get off the plane.
#4 - DRESS FOR AIRPORTS
Wear comfortable clothes to fly in. I know this may not always be possible if you are on a business trip and need to go straight to a meeting. That hasn’t ever happened to me. On a long flight, the last thing you want to be in are shoes that aren’t comfortable or stiff clothes. Have shoes that you can quickly get off and on for TSA. If you don’t feel comfortable, you won’t fly comfortably.
#5 - WEAR A HOODIE OR BRING A LIGHT JACKET
I have been stuck on chilly planes, and it isn’t fun. Even on the hottest of summer days, once the plane gets moving and takes off, it can be freezing inside. I always wear a hoodie, and I still will have to break out a light jacket from time to time.
#6 - HAVE ELECTRONICS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE YOU GET ON THE PLANE
Some seats on a plane have USB chargers, and some seats don’t. I find it is a good rule of thumb to also have your electronics charged up all the way before you get onto the plane. Half the time, I can’t find the charging outlet when they are underneath your seat anyway. I end up pulling a muscle trying to bend over and contort myself to find it, or even worse, I drop the charger cord below my seat. On longer flights, the USB charger for your phone is usually visible and easy to get to. On those shorter flights, it is another story. Have your electronics charged up and ready to go before you get on the plane.
#7 - FOR LONG FLIGHTS TAKE SOMETHING TO HELP YOU SLEEP
For any long flight, which would be more than 4-5 hours, take something to help you sleep. Especially if you are traveling internationally and will end up getting some jet lag. Before every long flight, I go to my doctor, and he prescribes me two Ambien pills. One for going and one for coming back. If a flight is 8 hours, I will take it 30 minutes to an hour into the flight. It knocks me out, and I usually wake up right before we land energized and ready to go. It also helps if you have any anxieties or fears of flying.
#8 - USE THE BATHROOM BEOFE YOU GET ON THE PLANE
This seems easy enough right? Not so much for some people. I have seen people board a plane, and the first thing they do is go straight to the bathroom. I understand there might be medical reasons that will make a person go to the bathroom, but let me tell you that there is nothing worse than getting up 5 times in a two-hour flight to let someone sitting next to the window out to go to the restroom. Been there, done that, not fun. I also have a thing about using the toilet on a plane. One of those funny quirks I have. I have yet to use the bathroom during a flight. I don’t even eat or drink an hour before take off to make sure I am empty. The next time you fly, when they start boarding or get close to boarding time, go use the bathroom.
#9 - INVEST IN TSA PRECHECK
You save time and you breeze through TSA. Need I say more? It is the gift that keeps on giving. #10 - TURN DOWN YOUR HEADPHONES
How many times have you been sitting next to someone wearing headphones, and you can hear what they play? I always think to myself, “If I wanted to hear it, I would be playing it myself.” Turn down those headphones. You can hear just fine without it blaring. I got stuck sitting next to someone watching a Tyler Perry Madea movie on an iPad. Let's just say the movie sounds as bad as it looks. Be kind to your neighbor and to me and turn down the headphones.
