⋆ Afterwards, Jihoon walks you home. "He's not actually sick, is he?" Jihoon asks, and you pause, embarrassed that he caught your lie. ⋆ You and Hakho met at an anime con. You had a small Two Piece cosplay account, and he was a bit starstruck to see you running a booth at the convention selling fan zines

⋆ Hakho bought one, immediately falling in love with your creativity. He reached out to your account to lend his praises, and it wasn’t long before a friendship sparked between you two. Not only were you the same age, with similar interests, you shared Hakho’s sense of humor. Plus, you were very attractive (of course)~

⋆ It was easy for him to fall in love, but the Union always seemed to get in the way. Hakho didn't want to burden you with his life, because you were the most peaceful and constant part of it; despite this, you'd fallen just as hard for him

⋆ The two of you were binge-watching Two Piece, bowls of popcorn and sweets scattered on the couch beside you, and a few bottles of soju you'd stolen from your mom's closet. The sun had long since gone down, and you could feel your eyes grow heavy with sleep. Hakho shifts beside you, preparing to leave, but you grab his shirt to stop him

⋆ "Please stay," you beg, "just a little longer." There's a sparkle in your eyes that makes it hard to say no, so he doesn't, even when you doze off on his shoulder, drunkenly whispering a confession against his skin. You'd forget it in the morning, but Hakho would hold onto that memory forever~

⋆ Seongje was interested in you from the start. You'd met through your childhood friend, Hwangmo. You were wary of Seongje at first, as you hadn't heard much good about him. His personality was brash and wild — even his smile sent a shiver down your spine. But it intrigued you, just as your quiet demeanor intrigued him, too

⋆ He was in your class, though you never spoke to him when Hwangmo wasn't there. You were smart, often getting top scores in the class; not only that, but you were kind, always offering help to others. Many people liked you, and that popularity made you stand out more to Seongje, as most popular people he knew used that power as a weapon, unlike you, who used it to lift up those around you

⋆ Maybe your humility was why he fell for you. And he was everything you weren't (bold, honest, and exciting), so you felt drawn to him, too. However, Seongje is romantically inept, so he doesn't know how to confess. Plus, he thinks you might be too good for him, and that leaves him hesitant; what if you truly change him? Or hold him back from his duties as Ganghak's leader?

⋆ After class, Seongje is assigned to cleaning duties with you. The light hits your face just right and he finds himself mesmerized, not realizing he's staring until you flash him a smile. "For a Union leader, you're pretty weak around me," you tease, and his ears redden, trying to shake off the remark. "You're seeing things," he shoots back

⋆ "Maybe. Or maybe I like you, too," you say, and Seongje really turns red. You exchange numbers on the walk to your bus stop; it's a strange feeling, but Seongje is hopeful to see what being with you does for him

⋆ Though he's a Union leader and can be as much of a dick as the rest of them, Sehan (when it comes to romance) is a man of tradition who was raised to be gentlemanly- So when you made the move on him? It threw him for a loop

⋆ He'd been crushing on you for ages. You're working part-time at the convenience store he frequents, so you two often chat during your breaktime. Though it was small talk, he'd look forward to it every day and visit you even if he didn't have money for snacks

⋆ While Sehan wants to confess, or get your number at least, he struggles- Partly because he's worried about you getting too close to the Union, and partly because of his own insecurity. Talking with you was easy when you made him feel so normal, even in the short moments you shared, so he grew afraid to ruin your friendship if you didn't feel the same

⋆ Still, it's worth a shot! During one of your meetings, he plans to get your number — key word: plans. Before he knows it, you're asking him on a date-

⋆ Sehan's pretty flustered, as he was hoping to ask you first, but seeing the gleam in your eye makes up for it. After stumbling over his words, face totally flushed, he gives you his number and the two of you make plans to catch a movie that weekend, Sehan blushing the rest of his walk home~

donald na / na baekjin

⋆ To Baekjin, you're something of an enigma. Not many people got as close to him as you were, and yet, without him realizing, you'd gone from being someone who he caught glances with in halls and the library, to a constant figure in his life

⋆ It's easy for him to fall for you. You're funny and easygoing, but reliable; even though you knew about his role in the Union, you never saw him as a villain or someone to fear. It was strange to him initially, because Baekjin was so comfortable holding power over those under him, yet you acted as though you were already his equal

⋆ Even so, he couldn't tell you about his feelings — until it was the right time, at least. Between school, the Union and business affairs, he never had time for crushes before, and he wouldn't let himself falter now. The Union needed a strong leader, not someone who could surrender to love so carelessly

⋆ When you burst into Baekjin's office and blurt out a confession, however, his composure slips- It's bold in a way he's not accustomed to, but he can't stop thinking about how cute you are, tumbling out every emotion you'd been holding onto between a few deep breaths. ⋆ Baekjin stops you with a hand on yours, looking at you with the softest smile. He wonders if he'll regret it someday, when the Union inevitably falls and all he has left is you; but a simple life may be what he needs, more than omnipotence and riches. "Don't worry, Y/N. I like you, too~"

The Orange Peel Test

This is the result of scrolling through tiktok and coming across a few "orange peel test" videos. Which then made me begin to wonder how some of the characters would react in these situations. Would they pass the test or fail miserably?

Donald-

If you're with Donald it's because he chose to have you in his life. He has no room or time for anything that's not to be taken seriously, and he obviously does his homework on any venture that he invests himself into. Which, in this case, would result in already knowing the kind of person that you are and what you like and don't like. So much so, that you wouldn't have to request such small favors as peeling an orange from him. Most days, he would have a tray set on the tabletop with an already peeled orange, split nicely into slices, ready for you when you get home. It will be the same concept with him filling up items you are low on, such as your favorite granola or shampoo, to the point that you can't even remember the last time you actually bought more yourself. Now he probably won't ever leave you little notes in the way that his mom did to him as a child, because he would hold that memory too close to his soul to share or give out with anyone else, including you, but he would 100% leave encouraging and love filled notes to his own children if you both ever decide to have any.

Jimmy-

Jimmy would give an immediate little sneer if you asked him to peel your orange. Which would be quickly followed up with him just snatching it out of your hand, and complaining a bit about having to do it, while still actually doing it for you. He would also eat half of it himself as he splits the orange apart slice by slice. His reasoning of course would be that he did the "hard" work, so why shouldn't he have some of the reward? The other half of the orange he would stuff into your mouth mindlessly and not too gently, in a very one slice for him- one slice for you, two slices for him- one for you, etc. Once the orange is all done, he will get up to grab another one, and repeat the process all over again. This will continue until you finally tell him that you're full and don't need any more orange slices.

Wolf-

You can't force Wolf to do anything that he doesn't want to do.(Unless you're Donald haha). So really it's a 50/50 chance for it to go your way if you were to ask him. But luckily for you, the one thing about Wolf that is very much in your favor, is that when he's in one of his more giving moods he doesn't hold himself back from treating those close to him. Such as when he takes out his crew for a whole "order whatever you want" type of feast. So the chances of him peeling your orange is pretty high, even with his volatile nature. Just don't ask him in a cutesy voice or by giving him some sad puppy dog eyes. That shit will end up annoying the hell out of him, and you'll end up watching him as he walks away from you, with nothing to keep you company but that sad unpeeled orange you're still holding in your hand.

Jake-

Now you know damn well that Jake would 100% peel that orange for you. Heck, he would even do it with a big smile on his face. He is one of the most openly family and friend oriented person within the Yeongdeungpo union. So he would not only peel an orange for you, but he would also be the kind of guy who would wake up early in the mornings to warm up the car for you. Just to make sure that the windows aren't frosted over and to have the inside of the car nice and toasty. Making it easier for you to just take off in the mornings to wherever you need to go. AND he would do this unprompted and solely because he wants to and because he's able to.

Forrest-

Most people know Forrest as someone who's a complete asshole. Always trying to prove that he deserves the spot he inherited from Myles as Hyeongshin's school head. And truthfully he has the fist to back it up against most adversaries, so most people just try to stay out of his way. But you're one of the lucky few who has gotten to see a different side of him. Where he has been incredibly thoughtful to those close to him, and how he's even taken into consideration his subordinate's discomfort when making his moves within the Unions dealings. So it should come as no surprise to you that Forrest would have no issues with peeling you an orange. Chances are you wouldn't even need to verbally ask the question. All you would have to do is hold out an orange to him with a pleading look on your face. That alone will have him taking the orange from your outstretched hand, followed by him patiently peeling the rind away from it. Then handing it wordlessly back to you once it's peeled, and leaving to throw away all the discarded peels before you even have the chance to say thank you.

Colton-

Now you all know Colton would be a complete and total simp for whoever he's in a relationship with. And he would be SO ready to peel any oranges for you. And not just oranges either. He'll peel you some bananas or some apples. This guy will even go as far as peeling/cracking your pistachios for you! And in my opinion that's even better than peeling an orange.

For those who don't know, the Weak Hero webtoon anglicized a bunch of the characters' first names from Korean to English. They don't do this for newly introduced characters anymore AFAIK, but all the names they anglicized initially have been kept that way.

Since I've gotten a few people asking about the names, so I decided to compile a list of their original Korean names. thank you @kaazunes for the request! this was a tricky one to write because, for some of these guys, i can't imagine what they'd do to make the reader upset lol- so not all of it is them doing something intentionally, but the reader being hurt over the guys' circumstances. i tried not to make the reasons too same-y, lol. hope you enjoy!

⋆ Fed up, he lashes out, telling you to stay out of it and leave him alone. “God, you’re so annoying,” he mumbles. You sink into yourself, salty tears pooling in your eyes

⋆ But you hadn't seen Hakho in days and were growing more and more worried. All your calls went to voicemail and your messages left on delivered. He'd do this sometimes when he was busy with Union affairs, but you were sick of it. So there you were, standing at his front door

⋆ When he comes out, his expression is defeated and the first words out of Hakho’s mouth are, “Why are you here?” He sounds disappointed to see you and it feels like a punch. Why are you here? Were you not supposed to care about him?!

⋆ You want to explode, until you notice the exhaustion on his face and realize you can’t. Instead, you break down crying, because you hate seeing him this way. You couldn’t understand why wouldn’t leave the Union when it was draining him so much, or why he'd constantly hide from you when things were rough

⋆ Hakho envelops you with his arms, burying your head in his shoulder. “I’m sorry, baby, I just… I can’t leave yet. I love you, but it’s not that easy.” You beg him to explain; he says there’s no point. Honestly, he wants to spare you knowing the more unsavory things he’s done, even if it wouldn’t change your love for him. "Next time I won't run from you."

⋆ Hakho comforts you until the tears subside and promises that he’ll leave soon. You know it’s just him consoling you, right now, but you'll keep hoping none-the-less

wolf keum / keum seongje

⋆ Seongje can be a prick, unintentionally or not. You know this, but his blunt attitude was what interested you in him and, at times, you loved it — until it bit you in the ass

⋆ You’ve dragged him to the mall for a shopping day. There was a family event coming up that you needed nice clothes for, and unfortunately nothing was working. Everything you’ve tried on fit wrong or washed your skin out. Seongje was no help, either, only shrugging or nodding to the outfits you’d showed him

⋆ Growing tired, you ask him to give a real opinion. He looks at you, “If I’m honest, it’s fuckin’ ugly.”

⋆ You frown and slink back into the dressing room, dejected, quickly changing back to your regular clothes. The whole walk home you barely speak, the words still spinning around your mind. Did he really think that of you?

⋆ Unable to take it any longer, your lips begin to quiver, tears brimming your eyes. Seongje notices and pulls you into an alleyway, a bit disoriented as he thought things were going great, and suddenly you’re crying in the middle of the street. He’s never been good with emotions or situations that required a lot of them, but he listens to you and tries to sympathize, wiping away your tears. It stings being confronted with the effect of his words on someone he cares deeply for, and watching you cry is the worst consequence

⋆ “Don’t cry, okay,” he says. “I didn’t realize I’d hurt you, sorry.” It’s easier to forgive when you see his pouty face, even though you want to stay upset. He’s still learning how to be less rough, but it's an honest effort; you'll give him some grace with that

⋆ He kisses your forehead and you kiss him back, giving up on shopping and deciding to visit the arcade instead (which was a lot more fun, anyways-)

⋆ If Sehan makes you cry, he cries too; and if you are crying, it's not typically his fault. Sehan is more normal than fellow Union leaders, so he's mindful of your emotions in a relationship

⋆ You were supposed to go on a date, but hours went by and it seemed like he was going to flake. You were confused as this wasn't like him at all, and it had you worried that something happened. When he didn't pick you up, you instead spent your night sobbing in bed. You'd thought that, though he's a delinquent, he would be different to you. But he stood you up and didn't have the decency to even send a text

⋆ Around 11, Sehan shows up and you promptly pull him inside to confront him. When the light hits his face, you gasp — it's covered in bruises, dried blood caked around his nose and the side of his head. His knuckles are battered, too, and your tears come creeping back in, dribbling down to your chin

⋆ Sehan jumps into boyfriend-mode, holding you tight regardless of how sore his body was. Making you cry hurt worse than all the punches he'd taken, especially when you cried because of him. He felt like shit; all he could do was apologize profusely and rub your back

⋆ "I wanted to come sooner, but... shit happened. I didn't want to ignore you, or have you see me like this," he whispers. "I'm sorry, I should've called." Sehan kisses your head and you melt into him. Even if you wanted to be mad, you couldn't

⋆ Once you've calmed down, you sit him in the bathroom to tend his wounds and plan out your next date, Sehan eager to make everything up to you

⋆ As much as he tries, Baekjin isn't always the most attentive. He's often caught up with overseeing the Union + his business endeavors, not giving him much time to really be there for you

⋆ The moments you get are brief so he tries giving you his full attention, but he gets distracted easily, even when you disapprove. This time you were out to eat, sitting in a restaurant way out of your budget, on one of the few dates you'd have. It was going perfect until he disappeared for 20 minutes to answer a call, leaving you all alone

⋆ You're let down, severely. When he returns, you're sullen, unsure if you should say anything. You don't want to feel this way, so you tell him you want his phone off the rest of the night. Baekjin lets out an annoyed sigh, "I can't, you know this. There's a too much going on with this Cheongang mess and I can't drop it."

⋆ It's a slap in the face. Your eyes sting, appetite wasted; you don't want to cry here, but you hate when he does this and now he's completely brushing it off. You can't fight the tears that come, and Baekjin's heart stops. "So is the Union more important than me?" you ask, his stomach tightening. Were you really this hurt over it? He didn't realize how serious it was to you and now he's regretting it

⋆ Baekjin reaches across the table for your hand, disappointed with himself. "No, it's not," he reassures, powering down his phone and shoving it in his pocket. "You are, so it's just you and me tonight. I love you." He kisses your hand and you soften at his touch

⋆ He spoils you the rest of the dinner, buying you all the dessert you want. He doesn't say it, but Baekjin feels relieved not having to worry about what was going on outside of your little bubble; all he needed was to see a smile on your face

kingsley kwan / kwan seokhyeon

⋆ You love Seokhyeon, truly, but you can get frustrated with him just as easily. If you tell him he's wrong, he'll do his best to change, however he isn't as perfect as he'd like to be

⋆ The one thing that comes between you is his loyalty to Baekjin. Sometimes you think he should date him instead, but that's you being petty. It's not uncommon for your plans to get cancelled because Baekjin needs him. While you try to not complain and see it from his POV, today you just can't

⋆ Seokhyeon is helping you prepare for your exams, as he's a lot smarter than you (and you like the time spent with him), until he gets a call from Baekjin. It seemingly lasts forever and once he hangs up, Seokhyeon tells you he has to leave. You frown; you've told him before not to do this. Not only that, he knew how badly you needed help on your exams, yet he's ditching you again

⋆ Your lips quiver as Seokhyeon packs his things. When he goes to say goodbye, he sees your watery eyes + red face and stops, frantically asking what's wrong. He knew you wanted to spend time together, but he thought you'd understand

⋆ You decide to let it out, how you feel second place to Baekjin and that Seokhyeon's relationship with him seems more important than the one he has with you. He drops his head in shame, knowing what you're saying is true — no matter the intention. Still, it stings to see you hurt over his actions

⋆ "You're right, I should be putting you first. I love you, there's nobody who matters more to me." You struggle to believe it, but he pulls you close and you allow yourself to try and accept it when he says, "I'm sorry."

⋆ Seokhyeon calls Baekjin and asks to see him later, cuddling up to you on the couch after. He kisses your cheek and pulls his textbooks back out, ready to help you pass your exams

Weak Hero Musings 1: The Tragedy of Donald Na

"They say 'Boy, you know it's time to go. It's time to give it up...'" - MISSIO, "Animal"

SPOILERS ALERT

The saddest thing about Donald Na (Na Baekjin)'s life isn't his miserable past, or his visual disability. Rather, it's the fact that he leads such a poisonous, alienating life. A life that once it touches other people in his circle, turns them into the worst versions of themselves.

Jake Ji (Ji Hakho), who originally joined the Yeongdeongpo Union to avenge his brother, gets his satisfaction from a life of endless fights.

Jimmy Bae (Bae Jihoon), who at first joined the Union to save Jack Kang (Kang Jeongyeon)'s life, turned into a monstrous bully.

Wolf Geum (Geum Songjae) has nothing and noone to stop him once he joined the Union, and his sadistic side is enhanced by his activities within the organization.

The MokHa duo relish more and more in unleashing violence on other people, instead of realizing what's probably better than that, and is worth more than gold: their genuine friendship.

Kingsley Kwon (Kwon Seokhyeon), who in his private moments worry for Donald and seems to have the potential of becoming a real friend, turns into nothing less than a cult worshipper, with Donald as its high priest and god. To him, Donald is The Omniscient and Omnipotent, and the burden of ensuring the sanctity of this point of view falls upon both Kingsley himself and Donald.

Forrest Lee (Lee Sehan) and Myles Joo (Joo Seungjin) were shaped by their ambition and at the end of the day Myles even resorted to murder attempt.

Worse still, these Union executives, every single one of them, is tainted by dirty money. The taint seeps into their daily interactions, marked by their dubious privileges and naïve pride in fashion brands. It's molded by the way Donald lives, the way he runs the Union, the way he fights, maims and destroys.

Such a life. It alienates Donald from himself and from everyone else. And no brainpower in his world can save him from it, no, not even his own.
