#we're so afraid of the full human experience

in my straw hat!ichiji AU, i thought about how Ichiji was captured and dragged back to Germa sometime before Sanji was in Zou
we all know that Sanji's only purpose was the whole arranged marriage sham, but it also rises the question why Ichiji was also taken. the reason is simple; Judge wanted his perfect masterpiece back.
unlike Sanji, Ichiji is not full human. he's a genetically modified human and maybe his "metal skin" ability lies dormant, he's still faster and stronger than anyone, he has Sparking Red and Stealth Black powers and to top it all, he can use Observation and Armament haki.
in this AU, Judge is way more toxic and borderline obsessed with making Ichiji the perfect heir. Niji and Yonji are fine soldiers, but he sees them as expendable. he's also really pissed off that Sora succeeded to ensure all her son are human and has emotions, even if she never lived to see it. so he does what he does best and that is to torment Ichiji to break his will and turn him into the mindless puppet he wants. also he wanted to punish him for betraying him and releasing Sanji.
Reiju, being the only one who knows the lengths Judge are willing to go, can't bear to see this happen again. Ichiji was lucky the first time around, but she knows that he won't be able to handle a second time. he might not return to the Straw Hats alive. so Reiju makes sure to hide certain clues around which she knows Nami will be able to find.
once Nami realizes what's going on with Ichiji, she is horrified...and then, she along with Brook, Chopper and the minks has to physically restrain Luffy from storming Germa castle and fight Judge head-on. Nami has a worse time during this AU because Ichiji's situation reminds her too much of her own experience with Arlong.
in this AU, Niji has uncontrollable rage and often misdirects it while Yonji is more subdued and is tired of every order he must follow. Niji and Yonji are self-aware and has their own traumatic experiences, but the difference is that under their cruel masks, they are too afraid to stand up against Judge. both of them has given up and can't see any hope.
Yonji even lampshades this at some point, saying that "even if all five of us fight him...he's gonna win anyways. why even bother?"
i thought making all the Vinsmoke brothers being self-aware would make more sense for the story, since they are all victims in canon. they never chose to be emotionless or evil from the start. Judge just fucked them up because he could. what makes it worse that Judge is a human but he actively choses to be cruel and evil.
so that's why Luffy ends up to not only save his cook Sanji and his archivist Ichiji, he decided to liberate all of them.
post-Whole Cake, when everyone's safe onboard the Sunny again and sailing towards Wano, Chopper makes the horrorfying discovery of exactly what Ichiji suffered; his entire back are covered in scars, still healing, and he has bruises on his neck and wrists because of the shock collars Judge forced on him.
i think the journey from Whole Cake Island to Wano was a little longer than we're led to believe, so Chopper does a lot of damage control about what happened to Sanji and Ichiji.
Reiju and the other two doesn't stay for long and bids the Straw Hats a fond goodbye, thanking them for freeing them. Reiju, Niji and Yonji sets sail on a small four-person prototype ship (Franky finished it before they came to Dressrosa) which Luffy gave to them. she along with her younger brothers destroyed their raid suit cannisters and sailed away to begin their new lives. as they leave towards the horizon, Sanji hopes they might stop by Baratie if they ever get to East Blue.
i had the thought about maybe letting Reiju, Niji and Yonji join them in Wano. but i thought it'd be better that they make the choice to go wherever they wish to go and have their own adventure, but not before thanking Luffy and the straw hats for liberating them.
the straw hats gets ready to continue to Wano, but not before they encounter a strange weather; the skies are blue and the sun is shining, but it's a light drizzle. Luffy, being very Luffy, says it's like the heaven are happy and crying at the same time.
it's a metaphor for Sora; she's long gone, but she's happy and crying because all of her children are now free.

Max's expression when he and David have that scene in the rain are really interesting to think about.

So, this was right after he did the whole, "People suck, the world is full of assholes, I wasn't loved as a child so now I'm evil and don't go to bed on time" yada, yada, yada. You get it. You can instantly see that he's smug. This could be due to the fact that David didn't respond, therefore in Max's mind he "won" This whole season he wanted to "break" David. According to him he wanted David to see that his idealistic worldview was wrong so he would "cry himself to sleep like the rest of us" Yeahhhh our boy isn't ok...the fact that a 10 year old said this is insane. So maybe he thoughts that he finally broke him and did what he wanted. But then look at his face when David admits that he's right about nobody caring.

He's confused, he probably just thought that David wouldn't respond, leaving David alone to think about his worldview, but instead David agreed with him and we can tell by Max's face that this wasn't apart of the plan. He just wanted to tell David that he's wrong and get it over with, but then David agrees with him, and is far from the usual cheerful counselor we normally see him as. This intrigued Max, which seemed to be why he stayed.
Now let's look at his face after David's awesome but heartbreaking line "That's why I'll never stop trying. Because somebody fucking has to."

The guilt is clear on his face. I think this is where Max finally noticed the effect he had on David. While Max wasn't entirely responsible for David snapping here, It'd be foolish to think that he didn't play a part in it. We know that while David tends to act unaffected by Max's comments, he cries over them when he's alone
"I'm so happy you're here, I'll only cry for 2 hours over that comment later!"
He's probably confused, this is what he thought he wanted. David finally broke and admitted that Max was right, and that nobody besides him cares, so why does he feel so guilty? Isn't this what he wanted?

Then he reaches out for David, we don't know what for. He could've been trying to apologize, make the whole speech he gave sound less harsh, or maybe comfort David in his own weird way. I mean, Max isn't really good at comforting people, since he never had any friends before Camp Campbell, so he never had to comfort anyone. And his parents are emotionally neglectful, so it's not like he had any example to go off of, especially since this was before David comforted Max in Parent's Day, so he had no healthy example of how to comfort others. But he still wants to try to comfort David in one way. Showing how guilty he really feels. But David instantly shut him down, probably too emotionally exhausted to hear from Max right now. Which, while it may seem harsh, it's kinda hard to blame him. He also cuts Max off because he still cares about him. "Go back to your tent Max, you'll just catch a cold."
I'm tempted to gush about how sweet it is that David still cares about Max even when he's at one of his lowest points butttt that's a post for another time. This post in about Max, but look at his reaction when David cuts him off.

He flinches...I wouldn't be surprised if Max's parents were not only emotionally neglectful, but emotionally abusive as well. Seeing how he reacts to an adult cutting him off, he definitely associates adults cutting him off with negative experiences, even if it's subconscious. This is one of the few times we see Max actually afraid, even though David just wanted him to go in a tent so he doesn't get a cold...fuck, Max's parents really did a number on him
Now let's look at the next time we see Max genuinely afraid which is right after this when the logs fall on David cause the show can't just give David a break ig

He's terrified...this may seem like an average human reaction, but this is Max we're talking about. He straight up tried to kill David in episode 2 of this season (Although this might've just been a gag, and not something we're meant to take seriously) but here, he tried to reach out for David, then right after this he got help and convinced everyone to do the campfire. Then yelled "Don't look too deeply into this!" when David found out, he still cares about David but doesn't want to admit it, due to a fear of him having something more than just friends to say goodbye to when he leaves Camp Campbell. But also having to say bye to the only father figure he ever had in his life, so he puts up so many walls when it comes to David in particular my poor baby boy

What are your thoughts on vampires in the Harry Potter universe? The little we know suggests that vampires are mortal and can either be born or turned. Full-blooded vampires appear capable of passing down their traits genetically, creating half-vampires, or turning wizards into vampires. How do you think the concept of vampires fits into wizarding society?
Hello 👋
Vampires are a weird one. We're told so very little about them, and they seem more like an afterthought rather than fully-fledged beings. That in itself actually tells us something important — that vampires are kinda rare and not beings you will just stumble upon.
Vampires as Beings
As you mentioned, vampires in HP are capable of reproduction (Lorcan d'Eath who is a half-vampire), this to me suggests they are not only mortal, but that they can't actually turn other humans into vampires. I mean, if they could, they wouldn't need to reproduce. Also, the fact they are mortal (albeit with even longer lifespans than wizards) suggests they are alive and not undead as vampires are usually portrayed.
So basically, long-living but not immortal bloodsuckers that can't actually turn via a bite. The fact they can't turn humans actually makes how they are treated by wizards make much more sense, so that's what I chose to believe. Further quotes and explanations in the next section. It's under a cut because it got long:
Vampires in Wizarding Society
So how are vampires seen in the wizarding world?
I copied all the quotes from the books relevant to this to try and create a cohesive understanding of wizards' treatment of vampires and the interactions between wizards and vampires.
“Oh, yeah. Poor bloke. Brilliant mind. He was fine while he was studyin’ outta books but then he took a year off ter get some firsthand experience. ... They say he met vampires in the Black Forest, and there was a nasty bit o’ trouble with a hag — never been the same since. Scared of the students, scared of his own subject — now, where’s me umbrella?”
[...]
The class everyone had really been looking forward to was Defense Against the Dark Arts, but Quirrell’s lessons turned out to be a bit of a joke. His classroom smelled strongly of garlic, which everyone said was to ward off a vampire he’d met in Romania and was afraid would be coming back to get him one of these days.
(PS)
Vampires seem to live in secluded societies of their own, completely separate from wizards. Such vampire communities exist in Romania and in the Black Forest in Germany. In general, it seems vampires rarely leave their own communities and that they don't often foray into wizard spaces. Vampires are spoken of as cool mysterious beings because most wizards have never met a vampire in their life.
So vampires, unlike werewolves, are treated more as a dangerous curiosity rather than a physical threat (especially in the UK where there don't seem to be any major vampire communities).
That being said, wizards do treat vampires as dangerous. It seems reasonable to them to be traumatized by vampires.
Remember I mentioned I don't think HP vampires can turn with a bite? The whole thing with Quirrell is a bit of a proof of that. He was supposedly terrorized by vampires, that was everyone's assumption, so, they would then assume he was bitten and had his blood drunk, I mean, what else would vampires do to terrify him so much? But no one is concerned Quirrell is then a vampire even if it's logical to think he was bitten.
My conclusion from this is that vampires bite for food and the victim isn't turned. I assume most bite victims just die of blood loss, hence the danger factor. The fact vampires can't turn others is a major factor in why they seem to be treated with slightly more respect than werewolves.
I mean, an international singer (Lorcan d'Eath) can be a known part vampire and no one has a problem with it. There seem to be no rules against vampire employment or ownership of homes the way there are against werewolves. And I think this is because they are considered beings and not a disease the way Lycanthorpy is.
Harry looked into the shadowed eyes of Sirius Black, the only part of the sunken face that seemed alive. Harry had never met a vampire, but he had seen pictures of them in his Defense Against the Dark Arts classes, and Black, with his waxy white skin, looked just like one.
(PoA)
Harry just explains here the vampire look and I wanted to mention it. The fact Sirius is said to look like a vampire (and some descriptions from HBP) suggests vampires in the DADA books and in wizards' minds are, in general, hot.
This quote by Dean and some stuff I'll mention later:
“Wonder what they’ll give us next year?” said Seamus Finnigan gloomily. “Maybe a vampire,” suggested Dean Thomas hopefully.
(PoA)
Suggests vampires are seen as hot, mysterious, and dangerous by wizards and there are most definitely erotic magical novels with vampire love interests. Basically, vampires are seen as sexy, dangerous, exotic, and mysterious by wizards who never met them (which is most of them).
Ron and Hermione were standing underneath it, examining a tray of blood-flavored lollipops. Harry sneaked up behind them. “Ugh, no, Harry won’t want one of those, they’re for vampires, I expect,” Hermione was saying.
(PoA)
This shows some of the vampires' better treatment from werewolves. Even though there aren't many vampires in the UK, Honeydukes has blood-flavoured candy for vampires. They are seen as respected enough beings to have their own candy lines that are sold in wizarding shops. I don't think any other magical creature can say the same.
I pull down about a hundred sacks of Galleons a year!” one of them shouted. “I’m a dragon killer for the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures.” “No, you’re not!” yelled his friend. “You’re a dishwasher at the Leaky Cauldron. ... but I’m a vampire hunter, I’ve killed about ninety so far — ”
[...]
“That woman’s got it in for the Ministry of Magic!” said Percy furiously. “Last week she was saying we’re wasting our time quibbling about cauldron thickness, when we should be stamping out vampires! As if it wasn’t specifically stated in paragraph twelve of the Guidelines for the Treatment of Non-Wizard Part-Humans — ”
(GoF)
But they still are seen as "dark dangerous magical creatures" by some of wizard society. A wizard claims (he's 100% lying) to be a vampire hunter, so I assume some think that's something that should be done.
Even though Percy mentions vampire hunting is illegal according to the Guidelines for the Treatment of Non-Wizard Part-Humans. So while some wizards think vampires should be hunted down (like some people think werewolves should be hunted down) they are treated as human and therefore are protected by wizarding law, unlike werewolves who are discriminated against legally to a much worse degree.
“Harry, I’d like you to meet Eldred Worple, an old student of mine, author of Blood Brothers: My Life Amongst the Vampires — and, of course, his friend Sanguini.” Worple, who was a small, stout, bespectacled man, grabbed Harry’s hand and shook it enthusiastically; the vampire Sanguini, who was tall and emaciated with dark shadows under his eyes, merely nodded. He looked rather bored. A gaggle of girls was standing close to him, looking curious and excited.
[...]
“I would be delighted to write it myself — people are craving to know more about you, dear boy, craving! If you were prepared to grant me a few interviews, say in four- or five-hour sessions, why, we could have the book finished within months. And all with very little effort on your part, I assure you — ask Sanguini here if it isn’t quite — Sanguini, stay here,” added Worple, suddenly stern, for the vampire had been edging toward the nearby group of girls, a rather hungry look in his eye. “Here, have a pasty,” said Worple, seizing one from a passing elf and stuffing it into Sanguini’s hand before turning his attention back to Harry.
(HBP)
The final quote I want to bring up is the only vampire we ever see in the HP books. Sanguini is described exactly like Sirius is in PoA and how vampires are shown in DADA books, so there is some truth to these descriptions (or Worple found himself the perfect poster vampire to walk around with). The gaggle of giggling girls is also noteworthy as it adds to the idea that wizards see vampires as sexy, mysterious, and dangerous in a good way.
The fact both Worple and Lockhart find popularity and success with their books about vampire life, again shows wizards are curious and interested in reading about these mysterious beings called vampires. I'm sure there is a lot of trashy fiction dedicated to them because of that.
Sanguini, though, seems more interested in the girls' blood than anything. Like, it seems he doesn't mind drinking the blood from a bunch of random school girls, but it's hard to say if it's a vampire issue or that Sanguini personally just doesn't give a shit (Harry does mention he looks bored).
I find it odd how Worple talks to him like a dog, though. It shows again, wizards' sense of superiority. Even though they treat vampires like curiosities (which is better than most creatures get) they still don't see them as equal even if they are in the camp that doesn't want to hunt them down.
What's more surprising is that Sanguini listens. It's possible Sanguini and Worple are fucking and they are into that sort of thing, and that's my personal headcanon for it. Sanguini was there as Worple's secret date and nothing could convince me otherwise.

Corpse au case fic where the trio decided to try cracking a murder mystery, except instead of angst it's a comedy of errors where they make everything worse.
Like. Danny comes out of a portal dead and translucent and glowing, and there's charred remains of a human body on the floor. So now all three of them are freaking out, and instead of asking for help, or finding an adult, or telling literally ANYONE, they decide to just. Get rid of the body. As one does.
So that's what they do: they break out Tucker's nice shovels (because god forbid Sam's family owned something as pheasant as a shovel, and Danny's too afraid of touching their family's Patented Fenton ShovelsTM for... reasons), they find a nice desolate clearing in the woods, and then they bury Danny's body like one would a very unfortunate hamster who met their demise too soon under very suspicious circumstances. They even stay at the new "grave" in silence for a minute or five in respect and DEFINITELY nothing else, you know. And so, they bury the body, and then they (try to) forget the experience as some horrific nightmare.
And then, a year later, there's an uproar: the Amity Park's police department found the child's remains in the woods! And you see, Amity Park is not THAT big of a town, and the police estimated that the body belonged to a 14-15 year old child, and, look, there's only so many schools in a small town, alright. Obviously, the rumours start very soon in Casper High: about how the kid could've gone to their school, about how they could've died, about whether or not anybody was missing them, about their identity, and some definitely-truthworthy-would-I-lie-to-you-bro-come-on sources insist that the kid was murdered around a year ago, around the time ghosts started showing up. And these rumours obviously reach the ears of Sam, Danny and Tucker.
Now, you would've thought that their first thought would be something like "oh no, they found Danny's body", or "oh no, they know", or even simply "we're sooo fucked". Except. You see, the night they buried the body? It was really cloudy. And dark. And, y'know, it's very easy to get lost in a forest. And they were too high-strung, you see, they completely forgot to leave some sort of a marker or anything. And also like, it was so long ago, you know? A lot have happened, they were sooo busy and the likes, you can't really blame them for forgetting some things.
And here's lies the problem: all three of them just fucking forgot that there was a body left to bury at all.
And then it gets out that the police can't even conduct any sort of DNA test because it became corrupted to the point of being absolutely unrecognisable due to exposure to a large amount of ecto-energy.
It's now looks like a bad set up for a joke: an identifiable body of a child, cause of death unknown; the probable involvement of ghosts or at the very least a very large quantity of ecto-energy; a probable murderer on the loose, which naturally breeds suspicion and speculation; a town full of all kinds of rumours; and a trio of absolute dumbasses, who after hearing that ghosts were involved immediately went to stick their noses where they don't belong.
Rejoice, Amity Park! Sam, Danny and Tucker are now on the case! Except they are all teenagers, and nobody in their right mind will allow teenagers to solve a murder case. Plus, them poking around would be highly suspicious, but Phantom, on the other hand?
(people seeing Phantom helping solve this case and coming to the conclusion that the ghosts were definitely involved was not on their bingo card, but oh well)
They don't go to the cops, obviously: Danny at least in part because he's worried they will call GIW on his ass or try to arrest him, and Sam and Tucker simply because fuck the cops (one because the police is involved in a militaristic, capitalistic corrupted system that breeds injustice and furthers the divide between average people and the wealthy, and the other because cops suck and will probably call GIW on his friend's ass). They also can't go to any other authorities: cops are out of the question, as is the mayor; laboratory personnel will most likely just throw them out; and there're no witnesses or known relatives, so they're stuck.
Therefore they decide that desperate times need desperate measures, and so they enlist all of their ghost allies on a quest, hoping to find the ghost of the kid. Considering the amount of ecto-energy they were subjected to, they MUST have formed a ghost, they only need to find them.
Except. The Ghost Zone is a big place, and they only have so many allies, even if some of them are a queen and a god. So Danny bites the bullet and does the most stupid (debatable) thing he has ever done: he goes to his enemies for help. They're surprisingly understanding and willing to help, even if some of their reasons are a little... strange (Skulker and Johnny entered some sort of competition on who finds the ghost first, Box Ghost starts to seek out coffins (??) and Youngblood is not above to start torturing people to finally have a friend that is not either an adult or a complete stick in the mud). And even then they still can't find the ghost.
In the end Danny goes to Clockwork in a desperate hope that he will be able to glimpse at least a little of what had transpired on the night of the murder, and to Danny's annoyance Clockwork laughs so hard he almost pops a ghost equivalent of a blood vessel.
A few weeks down the line Sam hesitantly brings up Danny's buried corpse ("MY WHAT" "Your corpse which we buried in the woods, Danny, don't you remember?" "Yeah, bro, I think you dissociated the whole time we were digging the hole and carrying your dead body" "WE DID WHAT-"), reasonably saying that, you know, they ALSO technically buried a body in the woods. On that Tucker just shrugs because obviously it was not Danny's body, the place of the burial was way off, he remembers that there was a really big stone to the left of the grave (he doesn't and there wasn't), so they are in the clear. During that exchange Danny's sitting on the floor and having a panic attack, because he really did dissociate the whole time and afterwards legitimately forgot that there was a body to bury at all.
After that conversation all three of them leave with a certainty that Danny's body is still there where they left it, whenever it was. And so the shenanigans continue.
#yes i know that is custom made for some delicious angst and identity shenanigans#but also consider: this scenario would be very funny#three teenagers running around a crime scene trying to solve a murder case#and not realising they ARE said murder case#idk whether or not there would be an identity reveal down the line but if there would be one#i like to imagine vlad just sitting in his office alone afterwards head in hands#wondering WHAT he did to deserve this stupidity that went for MONTHS#like sir you did it to yourself when you decided to make a 14 years old your arch-nemesis#jazz is both horrified ('IT WAS YOUR WHAT') and exasperated ('what do you MEAN you forgot')#she's out there secretly hoping this sort of stupidity is not hereditary (in her case it kinda is lmao)#his parents are simply horrified (tho jack a few months down the line finds the whole ordeal rather funny)#the ghosts all forget about this shitshow rather quickly#except for ember youngblood kitty and johnny. they will NEVER let danny live it down. NEVER.#also danny waking up at 3am in cold sweat and remembering cw laughing his ass off: THIS MF KNEW ALL ALONG-#danny phantom#sam manson#danny fenton#tucker foley

After giving their emotions a moment to level out, Randy stepped into his vanished daughter’s room. Nothing seemed in disarray, so he knew she hadn’t struggled against a captor.
Then, he spotted it. On the desk in the corner.
A note.
He picked it up and read it aloud, struggling to keep his growing dread at bay.
"Mom and Dad I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done it this way. But I wanted to know Nico in full, and I know if I told you what I was planning, you'd either stop me or come with me. Daddy, I know you're afraid of him, and I fear if you knew the past he told me, you would only fear him more. I trust he's not as dangerous as you think he is, but just in case, I'm going alone. I don't want him to hurt any of you if he really IS dangerous. I love you all, and I WILL see you later. Love Lavender."
Both parents went silent as they separately mulled it over. Randy fought to silence each possible outcome as it popped up in his mind. Trying to reach a point of rational thought. Anger and fear ravaged his every fiber.
Akoya spoke up first. How... How do we know where she went? She never told us where Nico lives...
An idea suddenly crossed Randy's mind. He turned, preparing to return to their bedroom, when pain shot through his legs.
Hrrgh!!
The shock sent him stumbling, but before he could fall he felt his weight disappear. He sighed as he was lifted to his feet beside Akoya. Nice catch.
The white-haired woman supported him with her arm. Anytime~ There was a chuckle in her voice despite the circumstances.
More carefully, they headed to their room.
All at once Randy reached for his phone and psychically pulled his cane to him, internally grumbling at his legs' mean trick. He sat on their bed, pulling up his phone's search history.
He knew that Lav had been using it, which was not uncommon. But maybe there was a clue...
...Stars?
She'd looked up star charts?
And maps...
And...
...Fuji?
He tapped on links shown to have been used. He read the articles they led him to.
His next words were spoken quietly. I think I know where she went...
Kanto.
Specifically...
Lavender Town.
Randy selected a shirt out of the closet. Amidst his fears and feelings, he noted that it was a turtleneck. Huh. Guess the cold season is here. He slipped it on.
That, or I'm grasping for some comfort...
He then pulled on a pair of pants, before leaving the privacy of the closet and approaching the Mews chatting on the bed.
At his approach, Akoya turned to face him, concern lighting her eyes.
She watched as he bustled around the room, making heavy use of his cane, looking for little things he might need and gathering them by a duffle bag on the bed.
She floated toward him. Randy...
He didn't look at her. Mhm?
Love... She moved so that she was in front of him. Please, slow down.
She transformed into her human form, but he began to move around her.
I know you're scared for her, but we have to trust that she can handle herself. She's not a helpless child.
He turned to her sharply, startling her. I'm going after her, Akoya. With or without help.
She clenched her fists, pushing back against her own fears to speak her mind. Of course! I don't expect you not to! And I don't expect you to do it alone. But we can't rush into it. We have to know what we're doing. What about the twins? Are we leaving them with Persim? Do we take them? Is Persim coming? Which would mean Rosemary too!
He throws some items into the bag ...Whatever gets us moving fastest. I'm not willing to take the chance that Lav is.
Akoya grabs his hand, losing her internal battle for control. I know! But Randall, the last time you acted rashly, it ended in disaster!
At this, Randy freezes. Akoya flinched. She never meant to use his worst experience against him, but at least she had his attention...
And if I recall... you did the exact same thing to me.
He stood still, shivering from his warring emotions. I-I know... I know... I.. I just... He started sobbing. Every little thing... that could go wrong... I can't get it out of my head... She could run out of energy, or lose control, and drown, o-or get attacked, or e-even if she does make it and meet him, he could be manipulating her!
She hughed him tightly as he melted down in her arms, punctuating his words with sniffles and sobs.
Why else would she go to meet him without telling us...?
He must have convinced her to...
R-right?
...
We can't know that. Not until we find her.
But... Just...
Take a moment to breathe... Okay?
He took a deep breath.
...Okay...
~~~~~~
ARC START | CHRONO
Happy birthday to me, have some distressed Lindens. XD
I apologize that the last portion switched from Randy's POV to Akoya's. Normally I try to avoid doing that, but I felt it flowed well enough this time. X3
The Moon has been significant in myths and customs all around the world from the beginnings of human civilization. It has been used as a light source and a chronometer for ages. Similar to the Sun, it has been associated with a variety of deities all throughout the world. This heavenly body has always been connected to many fundamental aspects of human existence, including love, passion, fertility, mystery, death and rebirth, and the afterlife, in both myth and magic. The Moon continues to play a significant role in Wicca and other contemporary Witchcraft and Paganism practices.
Briefing of the Moon
The Earth has its own energy, which is separate from the energy it receives from the Sun, according to scientists. The Moon also gives off a faint yet distinct energy. The energy of the moon is feminine and receptive as opposed to the masculine, projective energy of the Sun. Anyone who has experienced the Moon's physical pull can understand why its power is frequently described as magnetic. At the Full or New Moon, some people who are especially sensitive really experience a physical tug in their bodies, while others merely have a heightened awareness of everything around them.
The feminine, receptive, and magnetic energy of our own intuition is perfectly suited to engage with lunar energy. This is the most important mode of perception when it comes to magic, often known as our sixth sense. Therefore, when we intentionally connect with Moon energy, we are creating a channel for that energy to help bring about the necessary changes in our life. And we can actually increase the power of our magical activity when we do this in conscious sync with the energetic rhythms of the Moon's cycle. This is so because each moon phase offers unique energies that can be tapped into for special magical purposes.
Working With The Moon
Moon magic is the practice of enhancing spellcraft by utilizing the power of the moon and its cycles. You undoubtedly already know that spellwork and rituals are frequently performed during the full moon by magical practitioners. It's simple to use the moon for your intended purpose because it is at the peak of its metaphysical potency. However, depending on the kind of spell work you wish to conduct, all phases of the moon offer strategic advantages.
Lunar magic is a type of sympathetic magic in which practitioners align their spells and witchcraft with the moon's cyclical phases. Lunar magic users interpret the moon's changing phases as having characteristics that are helpful for various purposes, sorts of spells, or rituals. Each phase, from waxing to waning, has a magical correlation that guides a witch's work. The connections come from humanity's long history of using the moon as a calendar, navigational aid, and fertility symbol. The moon has traditionally been associated with masculinity by many civilizations, but in the modern West, the moon is frequently associated with femininity and is connected to women, fertility, and feminine cycles.
Now, all of this may seem historically complex and even scientifically oriented (and it certainly can be! ), but working with the moon is a flexible sort of witchcraft that allows for "choose your own adventure" thinking. It can be as intricate and challenging as you wish, or it might just be about interacting with the natural rhythms' exquisite beauty. You can focus all of your magick on lunar living or you can just perform a ritual for the new or full moon whenever it is convenient for you. Don't be afraid; the moon is not erratic and is always present. Simply get in and give it a go however seems appropriate to you.
Moon Phases
Witchcraft practitioners frequently use the moon's phases and their corresponding rituals to give their spells and rituals a little extra strength or to just serve as a reminder to focus on different things throughout the month. Although I'm here to offer inspiration and suggestions for how to use the moon in your magical life, how you work with it is distinctly particular to you, so this post isn't the be-all and end-all of lunar magic.
Here are the fundamentals. In witchcraft, we frequently add a ninth phase before the new moon, which scientists would regard as the same. However, there are eight moon phases every month according to science. The lunar cycle begins with the dark/new moon, increases or waxes until it reaches the full moon, then shrinks or wane until it reaches the dark moon, when the cycle resumes.
9 Moon Phases
Dark Moon
New Moon
Waxing Crescent
First Quarter
Waxing Gibbous
Full Moon
Waning Gibbous
Last Quarter
Waning Crescent
The intents, spells, and rituals associated with each of these stages include banishing, abundance, shadow work, manifesting, times of release, and times that attract things toward you. It is claimed that aligning your magical activities with the moon's phases can help you tap into their energy and encourage the results you want.
Dark Moon
The moment has come for destructive magic. Not necessarily "harmful," but now would be the ideal moment to cast a curse or hex. The optimum time to perform magical work to eliminate or banish strong spirits, addictions, or illnesses is during the Dark Moon. Do not waste this opportunity. It is advisable to use this time for something that presents a real threat. Also a fantastic time for divination and soul-searching. The black moon phase is all about the unconscious mind and is most frequently employed as a period for dream work, ancestral remembrance, and divination. Take advantage of this stage to really explore your inner thoughts. Turn inward, meditate, and consider your course of action. Simmer your soul in a hot ritual bath, or have a deep-tissue massage to release accumulated trauma.
New Moon
Moon mapping practitioners assert that the new Moon is a good time to reflect on significant issues or make broad plans for the next lunar cycle and beyond. The new Moon is focused on concepts of attraction and invitation. As a result, the majority of new Moon rites focus on sowing seeds for the future, which makes sense given what's going on in the heavens.
Waxing Crescent
The waxing moon looks to be expanding. This period's magnetic energy aids in bringing things out. The optimum time to work with beneficial magic is during this full waxing phase. This is the ideal moment if you want to develop a more optimistic outlook or greater patience. This is the moment to cast spells for self-improvement, such as enhancing psychic talents or learning information about a new class.
First Quarter
The First Quarter Moon is all about appeal from the outside world, whereas the New Moon is all about going within and bringing out. It is the best moment to do any type of magic that involves luring something in—whether it's a person, success, money, or anything else. Additionally, now is a great opportunity to return lost items.
Waxing Gibbous
The Waxing Gibbous Moon's energies, which are still in the 'constructive' magic phase, are excellent for giving anything you've been working on that may have stalled that extra push. Use these energies to give you a boost and help you resist temptations if you are having trouble staying motivated to complete a task or maintain a routine.
Full Moon
The Full Moon phase is the most potent of the cycle, making it the best time to deal with any pressing problems or difficulties you may be experiencing. Concentrate your rituals and spells on issues that are most crucial to your life. Additionally, this is a perfect time for magic and meditations centered on psychic growth, spirituality, and divination. The Full Moon is the time you would use for increased power when you are confronting really challenging problems, even more so than the Dark Moon. Full Moon magic is designated for those significant aspects of your life that require significant changes or boosts; it is not only for small jobs. It is best to focus on priorities during this period.
Waning Gibbous
Working on spells to banish is an excellent idea at this time because waning energies repel rather than attract. During the fading phases, minor banishings can be carried out. The ideal time to clean everything in general, including your house, yard, office, personal items, magical instruments, etc. It is best to end everything during the Waning Gibbous period, whether it be a commercial endeavor or a romance. Self-reflection is also an excellent thing to do at this time. Think on your past and inwardly rather of focusing on the future. Perform spells and rituals during this phase that are intended to perform minor banishings and cleansings. Now is a great moment to reflect and identify anything that is no longer in line with your goals.
Last Quarter
This is the ideal time to go through any challenges you've had to face while working toward your objectives. Use charms to help you overcome obstacles that might encourage you to give up. The same is true for whatever transitions you may be going through; take advantage of these energy to iron out any kinks and make the procedure move more smoothly.
Waning Crescent
The energies are more suited for larger banishings, including getting rid of anything that has been depleting your energy and stealing your joy. Work with the energy of this time to eliminate anything from your life that you wish to just get rid of. Focus your spells and rituals on the intentional dumping of anything that you no longer desire, whether it be quitting a fruitless project or ending a damaging acquaintance or relationship.
"Will of the People" Muse interview - Chris Wolstenholme [GEKIROCK August 2022]
Original full interview in Japanese can be found on their website.
The quintessence of the one and only live band MUSE! A stunning rock album that has developed in all directions, from modern metal to ballads!
Member: Chris Wolstenholme (Ba)
Interviewer: Toru Sugaya
MUSE have completed their new album ‘Will Of The People’, their ninth album in four years. The album, which came after the pandemic, is a complete change from the previous album, which was mainly electro, and is filled with their quintessential guitar sound, a content that fans have been waiting for. The songs on the album, including ‘Won't Stand Down’, which was released as the first single and blew listeners away with its metallic guitars, also feature a variety of the band's specialities, from glam rock to synth-pop and piano ballads, but each of them has developed more dynamically, and it can be said that it is a work that is diverse yet unmistakably a MUSE album in every way. Chris Wolstenholme talks to us about the album.
—Congratulations on the completion of your new album “Will Of The People”. Some of the songs have already been performed live, how does it feel to play them and how are the fans reacting? “It's very exciting. I think there's a great hunger for human interaction, partly because we've all been through a lot of hardships in the last two and a half years, with Corona and all the other hard things we've been through. Many people used to regularly do things they took for granted, such as going to concerts, sporting events and other gatherings, but it is only when these things are taken away that they realise how much they used to enjoy and needed them. We went two and a half years without doing a show. It was the longest period of no shows in our history. The first show back on the live scene renewed everyone's enthusiasm for live music. Everyone hasn't seen a concert in a long time…… This time it's really special. I myself didn't realise how much I missed this place until I got back on stage. To be honest, the first few gigs were a bit strange. I felt like I was doing something wrong (chuckles).”
—(laughs). “We got so used to being apart from people that we weren’t gathering together, so we were kind of looking around here and there like, “Um…… can we break the rules here?” (laughs).”
—Ahaha (laughs). “It was a totally strange feeling. But it's great to be back on stage. The fans and us are really excited. We don’t want to take such a long break again.”
—There is a new, rather heightened intimacy with the fans. “Yes, there's no doubt about that. I think we've all got used to living in our own bubbles, I think. I'm lucky because I have my wife and kids, and even during the pandemic I still had a lot of people around me, but a lot of people were alone and couldn't interact with others. No matter how much I love my family and the people I live with, I still need other people…… I think a lot of people found the state of being alone so hard to handle, they could hardly do anything. I think they've become more grateful to just have people around them. Because we went through an experience where we couldn't get that. Now I just hope that something good will come out of the hardships we went through. We'll never take (interaction with others) for granted again, we have more respect for each other, and we've realised how important other people are.”
—Is the reaction of the fans when you play new songs better than when you previously performed new songs from back then? “Yeah, I think so. We're playing a song called ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ and we've been doing that for a long time before it was released. There was a time, I think it was in the early 2000s, when ‘Napster’ was big, and we were afraid of our music being leaked, so we held back from playing new songs at live shows before they were released. It didn't seem like a good idea to have those recordings circulating out there before the album came out. I think this is the first time we've played a song before it was released live since ‘Hysteria’ (from our third album, Absolution, released in 2003)? I think we had a rule that we didn't play new songs until they were released. ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ was an exception to that rule, and we were like, “Oh well. Fuck it,” and we decided to play it (laughs). Times are different now, and we just want to play it and get the fans excited. And it's a very energetic, heavy song, so it suits our live shows very well. To be honest, all the new songs sound good. The new album has a lot of heavy songs and a lot of guitar, so I think it suits us very well from a live point of view.”
—As you say, there have been many songs with a hard rock/metal essence in previous albums, but this album is packed with more intense sounds than ever before, such as ‘Kill Or Be Killed’ and ‘Won't Stand Down’. What prompted you to steer in this direction? “Well, I don't think it was something we did consciously. As you just said, (the hard rock/metal essence) has always been a part of this band. It's also because a lot of the bands we were listening to when we started playing music were heavy. For myself, I love RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, HELMET, and KORN, and also DEFTONES. Those were the early Nu-metal bands. We were just getting our record deal at that time. They might have come out a bit earlier, but those bands influenced us 25 years ago. It's interesting that metal music has evolved a lot since then. Especially in terms of production. You can be very heavy and pop at the same time, and you can use the production tools very well to make it sound really polished. That's what's really appealing to us. If you listen to a lot of metal music nowadays, it's getting more and more mainstream. The production values of metal bands are also surprisingly high. I think it's possible to be heavy and extreme and still have the essence of a pop song. I think that's what we've been trying to achieve for a long time. It doesn't matter what kind of songs we play, as long as the base of the song is a ‘good song’. When you get down to it, it's all about the chords, the structure, and the melody. If you have those three things, people will like it. For us, especially from a live point of view, when you get into the metal realm, it affects the audience in some way. People are jumping up and down. We've always had a great reaction from the audience to songs like ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ (from “Absolution”) or ‘Dead Star’ (from the 2002 compilation/live album “Hullabaloo Soundtrack”). That's very important at a live show. When we make a setlist, we're always thinking about which songs to combine to get the best reaction, what we can do to make people enjoy it the most. I think the most important thing to have at a show is high energy. I think that's our motivation, to create a really high energy atmosphere. It's fun for us when we see the audience having fun too (laughs).”
“At the end of the day, I think it's about the hardships and crises we're all living through. Those problems are happening blatantly right in front of our eyes.”
—While your previous album, Simulation Theory (your 8th album released in 2018), had a strong electro element, this album gave the impression of a return to a band sound centered around distorted guitars. Did you come to this sound partly because you couldn't play live due to the pandemic and missed the energy you got from the audience? “I think so. Yeah. Because the thing we missed the most was playing live. I don't think we ever went six or nine months without playing a show, even when we took time off in the past. I think we were always experimenting as a band. As a rock band that's stripped down to just a guitarist, bassist, and drummer, when you've had such a long gap, you just want to get back on stage and rock out as a trio and create something high energy. We’re all back from the COVID pandemic, and we're all excited with the fans. The excitement of the music itself combined with the excitement of the audience makes for a great show.”
—You just mentioned the hard elements, but in fact, the songs on the album have a variety of arrangements, from glam rock to synth-pop, piano ballads to metal, with each song having a different character, but no matter how you cut it, it's a very MUSE-like album. What points did you focus on when creating the songs? “Well, this time…… I guess it's like we took the best parts of what we're good at and mixed it all together. There are electronic elements in the very heavy songs, and there are electronic and hard rock elements in the songs that sound like classics.”
—Certainly. “If you analyse each song, you can see…… For example, ‘Liberation’, that's the first song in a long time that has classical piano-like elements in it. And yet it's full of electronic elements and uses a lot of synthesisers. Of course, there are the epic backing vocals that have become our trademark. That's kind of what we think we're good at, and we've brought it all together on one album.”
—The album was produced by the band, with additional production by Aleks Von Korff, who also worked on the previous album. Dan Lancaster also mixed ‘Won't Stand Down’. What was the reason for this line-up? Dan is also the support musician on your current tour, isn't he? “Yes, Dan is supporting us. We talked earlier about the evolution of metal, and as you know, he's done a lot of collaborations with Bring Me the Horizon.”
—Yes, that's right. “From a sound point of view, we feel that a lot of what they've done is quite modern. In light of the way metal is produced these days. Mixing metal can be very difficult sometimes. There are so many sounds and everything is so heavy and dense that it can be difficult to get all the elements of the sound to sound right.”
—I see. “But when you listen to the mixes and bands that Dan has worked on, they are very dense, yet you can hear each sound properly. That's where it started, and then I discovered that he's also a great musician. He's a good guitarist and a good singer. He's also a great keyboardist. So we decided to get him to support us. We've always used a lot of backing vocals on our albums, but we haven't really been able to replicate that live. Now that myself, Matt (Matthew Bellamy/Vo/Gt/Key) and Dan all sing, we can do a good three-part harmony. It's been quite a long time since we've played a show. And he's a very nice guy. He has a forward-thinking approach to music and production.”
—How about Aleks? He did the additional production, didn't he? “Aleks is an engineer from LA and he's just got a fantastic ear. He has an incredible talent for listening to things that other people would miss and making whatever you record sound great. A lot of people nowadays don't care about the quality of the recording because they think they can fix anything in the mixing process (laughs). Aleks makes everything great at the recording stage, which makes mixing much easier. The sound is good even before mixing. I think the way he records drums is great and he knows a lot about the gear we use. And he's also one of the most fun people to be around. I rely on him for a third-party perspective as well.”
—Reading through the lyrics of the song, it seems to me that the song is a fairly direct portrayal of modern social issues such as the environmental crisis, the power of the people, bullying, and Black Lives Matter, as well as the pandemic. Can you tell us why you chose to take on these subjects? “I don't know exactly when Matt wrote the lyrics, but my guess is that quite a lot of it was written during the pandemic. During the pandemic there were other things you mentioned, Black Lives Matter, the #Metoo movement, the war in Ukraine…… All kinds of things are happening. I learned about a lot of it by staying home and watching TV because of the pandemic. Every day, all day long. These problems have been going on for quite a long time. But none of us went to work…… At least I was at home all day watching the news on TV. Maybe other people did too. So, just when I thought the pandemic had calmed down a bit, now other problems crept into the news. I think very many people have become more aware of those other issues when they're at home all the time without work. So it's impossible to say that (the lyrics) weren't influenced by them. I think a lot of musicians who wrote songs for their albums during the lockdown period also took their cues from that.”
—I agree. “For us it was easy to do. It was originally a lot of the subjects Matt had covered before. But as you said, this time it's very, very direct compared to the previous ones. There's a lot less ambiguity and a lot less being left to the listener's interpretation. In fact, I think you're hearing the most direct lyrics Matt has ever sung. There are very few moments where I'm listening to the songs and thinking, "What is this about?" I mean, we all know what it's about. I think it's really about the hardships and crises that we're all living through. These problems are happening right in front of our eyes for the first time. Every day. There is so much negativity in the world. Like climate change and the issues you just mentioned. It's like riots are happening all over the world. The world is in a terrible state…… (chuckles). I feel that these problems are still very much present even now, and it's a very disturbing time. Very unstable times. The majority of this album refers to them.”
—It makes the listener think, too. I think it's good to be able to think together with the band about how we can deal with it, get through it, and overcome it. “That's cool!”
—By the way, metallic masks appear in the music videos for ‘Won't Stand Down’, ‘Compliance’ and ‘Will Of The People’. At the live show held this year, huge masks were placed on the stage and the members performed wearing them, which I think is an important item in this album, but what is the meaning of them? “Well, I think this is one of the few parts of the album that is left to each person's interpretation this time. To me it looks like a huge, rebellious cult. They're fighting against all the problems in the world. It has a dystopian feel to it, or they're fighting against all these things, and they're standing by us. So it's like they're trying to open up a new world. I don't know. But other people might have a completely different interpretation. This is my personal interpretation, but I'm sure Matt's interpretation will be different and Dom's (Dominic Howard/Dr) interpretation will also be different.”
—By the way, that mask…… Do you find it hard to breathe during the live show (laughs)? “……It's very hard to breathe (laughs). It's also very hot. The first one we made didn't have any holes in it at all.”
—That's scary. “And the venue at the beginning of the tour was in Southern Europe and it was so hot. When I put it on, I was sweating within seconds! So I had to get a new mask made, the ones with some holes in them. Then I could get some fresh air. But I only had it on for one song, the opening song. After that I took it off, so it's not so bad (laughs).”
—As for the album tour, you guys are usually an arena band, but at this stage (※interviewed at the end of July) you have only announced shows with a capacity of around 2,000 to 3,000 people, excluding festival appearances. “Yeah. There are a lot of bands that wrote a lot of songs while they couldn't play shows because of the pandemic, so now everyone wants to play shows (laughs). What we decided to do in our case is that instead of doing a big tour right after the album, we just want to play again anyway, so we decided to play relatively small shows, except for a few festivals, to feel connected to the fans. —You know, especially in arenas, the seats are dark and far away, so it feels a bit isolated. It's very important for us to reconnect with the audience, because we're finally getting back to the show after the COVID-19 pandemic. You have to get close and become one with them. It's easier to do that in smaller venues. And it's been two and a half years, so it's a bit scary to suddenly go back to an arena (laughs).”
—(laughs). “Like big stadiums. I'd rather do it on a smaller scale and in a more relaxed way. And then next year we'll go back to arenas and stadiums…… To be honest, I personally prefer smaller shows. I think there's a type of energy and a sense of connection with the fans that you don't get from bigger shows.”
—Finally, do you have a message for your Japanese fans? “Of course! We all missed you in Japan. We can't wait to go back. Japan is a country we all love and it's always fun to go there, the people and the food are amazing. Not having that…… we missed it. We missed our Japanese fans. We're hoping to go back as soon as possible.”
"Will of the People" album review The new album, the ninth in four years from the world-famous live band MUSE, is a dynamic sublimation of the frustrations built up during the pandemic, and is a stunning rock album. The band's sound, which seems to have developed the various elements of their speciality in all directions, can function as a best-of album in spite of being a new album, and is highly recommended as an introduction to the band, not to mention long-time fans. The album is full of highlights, from the over-the-top glam rock catharsis of Track.1 (Will of the People) to the dark MUSE-style funk tune of Track.6 (You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween) and the majestic piano ballad of Track.5 (Ghosts (How Can I Move On)), but readers of this magazine who have not yet listened to MUSE should at least check out Track.4 (Won’t Stand Down) and Track.7 (Kill Or Be Killed), which are intense metal tunes. -Toru Sugaya
Translator's Note: This is actually a free interview that is available online and the small booklet was a free magazine that showed only parts of the interview. Did I spend actual money to buy this free magazine? Yes. Was it worth it? Somewhat since I get to laugh at the sheer thought of questioning "Is Muse a Visual Kei band?"
Fander Fic Rec Friday (#27)
(Not My Monkeys: Animal Traits)
Hidden Shapes by LadyoftheWoods Canonverse (Gen) Rating: G Beyond their animal traits, Janus, Virgil and Remus each have a full hybrid form they can assume. They've successfully hidden that fact from the others for years, until an illness takes the choice of revealing it out of their hands. Notes: Sickfic with rare canonverse naga!Janus, and some sweet family moments.
The Frog in the Bog by Nonya_Behr_Writes Canonverse (Intruality, Roceit) Rating: G Patton has always had frog traits, but kept them hidden. As the side who made repression possible, only Janus knew. After PoF, the illusion starts to fall apart. In his efforts to keep his secrets he winds up with another secret (one that causes even more pain in trying to keep hidden). Notes: Patton makes a lot of bad choices for a lot of bad reasons, causes himself and the others a lot of misery (especially Remus). While everyone else is trying to move forward Patton takes a few steps back (though in the end he finally manages a leap in the right direction).
Molting by Ronnierotten (Brandstifter) Canonverse (Gen) Rating: T Just as Janus sheds his skin, Virgil molts like a spider. It's a strenuous and grotesque process, so of course the Duke is more than eager to help. Notes: This one is very thorough and graphic in its depiction of the molting process, and Remus is extremely Remus about it. (Sometimes besties are the worsties.)
soot and ash and blood and that's furever by Odaigahara Canonverse (Gen) Rating: T Influenced by their mythical namesakes, both Roman and Remus possess the traits of wolves. Roman hides these traits from the others, convinced that they're proof of something unforgivably wrong with him. When a fever leaves him longing for the reassurance of his pack, he takes drastic measures to stop himself from revealing his "weakness" to his family. Notes: Interesting character exploration, and hurt/comfort in the form of protective brotherly moments from Remus. like lemongrass and sleep by therentistoodamnhigh Canonverse (Gen) Rating: T Remus's perspective from 'soot and ash and blood and that's furever', and a continuation where they others become aware of Roman's situation and finally get the chance to do what they can to help.
Maybe We're Not Monsters by NoblestRomanOfThemAll (AnxiouslyGoingIntoTheVoid) Canonverse (Gen) Rating: G After PoF, Patton begins to experience his first frog molt. At Virgil's urging he approaches Janus for help. Notes: More molting that isn't exactly sparing of the details, but it's honestly just soft hurt comfort and some necessary conversation between the two. More Humane Than Human by LadyShadowphyre Canonverse (Gen) Rating: G Following his first molt, Patton overhears a conversation between Janus and Virgil, that gives him a lot to think about. Notes: A nice follow-up to 'More Humane Than Human', elaborating on a few things hinted at in the original fic.
The Molting Season by Cherry_Sofa_729 Canonverse/Wingfic (Intrulogical) Rating: T Logan has recently developed wings. Afraid of what the others might say, when he finds himself in need of help from another pair of hands he turns to Remus. Notes: This one has some fairly messy hurt/comfort, goes into a lot of detail on the anatomy of wings and feathers, but overall it's very soft. Logan is going through it, but Remus has his back (literally).
Darling, We Can All See Your Bloody Feathers on the Floor by darrinya Canonverse/Wingfic (Loceit) Rating: T Logan has had wings ever since they were children, and has hidden them for all those years. (And through everyone of them Janus struggles to get him to stop lying to himself about his own needs.) Notes: Another wingfic, much heavier on the angst than the last, focused more on building self-acceptance than on the physical hurt (though there's plenty of it). Some very tender moments between Janus and Logan (even when you're right there beside Janus in wanting to shake Logan by his shoulders).
Cold blood and warm nests by Theshycreeper Canonverse (Gen) Rating: G Being influenced by the cold-blooded nature of their animals sides, Janus, Virgil and Remus have a routine for dealing with unpleasant weather. After PoF and the arrival of his own, dormant traits, Patton winds up joining them. Notes: Light on angst, heavy on cuddles. (It's also part of the same series as Game nights are fun, which I've recced before, and if you haven't read it yet, is a hoot.)
The Egg Trick by Mad_Madame_Mim Canonverse (Moceit) Rating: M One morning at breakfast, Remus harasses Janus into showing the others his "Egg Trick". Reactions are varied, but strong across the board... Notes: Cracky humor and weird snake biology, M-rated for a very suggestive and hilariously out of pocket exchange towards the end.
Dining with the Duke by Ronnierotten (Brandstifter) Canonverse (Dukexiety) Rating: T Remus invites Patton and Virgil to dinner. Despite the Duke's unexpected choice of menu items it goes almost shockingly well. Notes: Bugs are eaten and friends are made. This one's just really cute and funny.
Leonardo "Leo" Hamato
When Leo first met you and saw that you had attitude, his first thought was 'Oh, great, another Raph.'
It took them a while to get past your rough and tough exterior, but once they got to know you better, they started falling, and they fell HARD.
Full on tripping over her words, getting flustered easily, you're the only thing on her mind when she realizes that she likes you.
Definitely talks to Master Splinter about you.
Would never bring his crush on you up to his brothers, especially Raph.
"So when I have an attitude, you hate it, but when she has an attitude, you think it's adorable?!" would be Raph's reaction upon finding out.
Because you are very head-strong, sometimes you and Leo end up butting heads due to your opinions differing.
You would definitely be workout buddies with Raph.
Also when fixating on something, Mikey loves having infodump sessions with you, especially if you both are fixated on something similar/the same thing.
Leo loves when you get along with their brothers.
Raphael "Raph" Hamato
In the beginning, you and Raph are constantly butting heads. You both are very short-tempered and head-strong so when your opinions differ, it's a bull match between you two.
After some time, it's not as bad as it was, you learn to compromise.
They teach you some stuff as a way of flirting without being obvious.
It takes a while for him to get a crush on you, he's supposed to be the tough guy, he doesn't have time for feelings.
But everytime you remind them that being strong involves being in tune with your feelings, they start to allow themself to fall for you.
He doesn't understand his feelings for you, he's confused. Like 'Why does my stomach feel weird whenever we're training together? Why can't I think straight when I talk to her?'
They don't want to get teased by their brothers so they keep their crush a secret, but everyone knows, except for you.
Donatello "Donnie" Hamato
Similar to Leo, he's not excited that you are basically another Raph. He's not a fan of the short-tempered, sarcastic, loudness that is you.
Being more logical and rational, he clashes with your 'punch first, ask questions later' attitude. But hey, they do say opposites attract.
Once he realizes that he's starting to like you, he tries to avoid you as much as possible. He's had his human-mutant "relationship" experience and it didn't go well. *cough* April *cough*
When you let down your tough exterior is when he falls hard, he basically smacked the floor with how hard he fell.
He's in love with your sense of humor. If you were to crack a joke that had anything to do with science or robotics, he would fall harder than ever.
Michelangelo "Mikey" Hamato
Being the baby brother, Mikey knows how his hot-headed brother is. He knows that Raph can be caring, despite the rough exterior.
Mikey figures you're the same way. Tough on the outside, soft on the inside.
They fall hard and fast, completely head over heels for you. They're like a lovesick puppy, following at your feet, treating you like a princess.
His crush on you is obvious to everyone, except you. At first, you think it's annoying how he's always by your side, but over time, he starts to grow on you.
If you were to come into the kitchen when they were cooking and matched his goofy energy, they would break. They love it so much.
Don't even get me started on when you both are hyper together. You two being energetic and chaotic, he loves it! Although the others aren't too happy with all the commotion if they're busy (which they most likely are).
Trauma
This is a Lucifer trauma post. Trigger warnings include: SA, Abuse of Authority, Abuse in general, Manipulation, Grooming, and if I'm missing any, please tell me
I'm a firm believer in don't like, don't read/ignore
I'm making one big post about this, because it's much easier. I'm focusing on the two I mention a lot in my fics or possibly posts here.
I do want to prefice this with that I do not condone or defend any of this behavior. These are real experiences some people may go through, and if you have, please seek help from a trusted friend, adult, or medical professional.
I will put trigger warning per section. None of this is canon, it all pertains to my headcanon/my au
Michael
Trigger warnings for this portion include: Grooming, Abuse of Authority, Abuse, SA(?)
Michael is an archangel. He was part of an experiment created by the father to see what DNA made the perfect angel. Three were created from this. Gabriel, with half human, half angel DNA, Uriel, with full angel DNA, and Michael, with half demon, half angel DNA. Michael proved to be an interesting case, with strength above any other angel. However, the demon in his blood came with some not so good tendencies to enjoy others pain.
When Lucifer was created as the "perfect angel," Michael began to train him in swordfighting. Michael took an interest in him and became his only mentor.
As Lucifer grew older, Michael began to be more harsh on him. Anytime he failed to defeat him in a match, Lucifer would receive a punishment such as being whipped. It slowly drove him to become better (though, the other archangels didn't approve of his methods)
Lucifer had a habit of sticking his whole self-esteem on Michael's opinion. This meant he was constantly asking Michael how he did or whether he looked good or anything to get praise. If Michael didn't respond with "Perfect" then Lucifer was sent down a spiral (something that stuck with him when he fell)
At a celebration for another angel, Lucifer and Michael we're about to leave and Lucifer happened to ask "Do I still look good?" Because he was desperate for his idol's approval. In response, Michael kissed him and said "Absolutely perfect"
Afterward, Michael insisted Lucifer didn't tell a soul what had happened. They were friends, weren't they? Friends can keep secrets, right? Manipulations such as that. Eventually, these exchanges got more common and Lucifer became more paranoid they would be found out. He thought the world of Michael and would never sell him out, but he was always worried someone else knew.
But then, the war began and Michael refused to side with Lucifer.
"But you said we were friends."
"Friends don't rebell against the Father, Lucifer"
"She's my sister!"
"She made her choice. You must make yours"
"Then I suppose we'll meet again on the battle field"
Michael's section is finished here!
Diavolo
Trigger warnings include: Abuse of Authority, implied/mentioned SA, Abuse
If anyone recognizes me off my AO3, then you'll probably know of my Kiss Me, Son of God series. This is a series in which Diavolo abuses his authority and Lucifer's pact with him to sleep with him.
That's the first incident in which Diavolo isn't the greatest person.
Diavolo has rampages, just like the brothers. However, unlike the brothers, his don't stick to a particular sin. Diavolo is a royal demon, meaning he is representative of all sins. This means that he can have rampages for all sins.
The most common would be Lust or Wrath. During these rampages, he has a tendency to hurt Lucifer. In Lust, because he subconsciously sees Lucifer as his future queen (tagged as Dialuci for a reason) and in Wrath because he sees Lucifer as an angel, therefore a threat in his realm.
However, unlike Michael, Diavolo almost never remembers doing these things to Lucifer. When he realizes his best friend is slowly becoming afraid of him, he makes the move to improve. As time moves forward, Diavolo becomes more caring and cautious around Lucifer, leading to the relationship we see in game.
Final thoughts
I give a lot of trauma to Lucifer, mainly as a coping mechanism. I am an angst writer, so the things I headcanon/have in my au are going to be heavy topics. I recognize that this behavior is not okay and I don't defend it at all.
These things happen to real people, and I feel like these topics aren't discussed enough in fandom culture. That's the reason I write it and incorporate it. If we remain ignorant, we won't recognize the signs of it happening in our own lives or in the lives of the people we love.
If you've read to the end, thank you! I know this is mainly just me dumping stuff, but thanks for reading it
#obey me shall we date#obey me#obey me lucifer#obey me diavolo#obey me michael#psychoanalysis#don't like don't interact#don't like don't read#This is Dialuci
I'm not sure where else to go with this...
So, for background, I'm a werewolf living down, down where sands blow across the plains. I work as hired muscle for my town, even though I'm not full-grown yet... Regardless.
There is a huge pack of werecoyotes living near my town, an entire family and their elderly matriarch. I'm scared of them, to put it frankly. I was not born a lycanthrope, but turned through violent means, and they rallied to kill my attacker for the sake of the town (which I am very grateful for). My landlord/friend says I should get to know them so I can have people who will understand me, but the problem is that they have such a strong bond with one another and just seem so uninterested in me, even though I know they're at least a little curious. I know that in the animal world, wolves attack coyotes frequently for food, and I am far larger than any of them when turned, but I would never do something of the sort- while we're not human, we're still people.
Do you think my anxieties are understandable? Should I put myself out there anyways and try to speak to them? I feel like I owe them that. Thank you very much.
These people… murdered somebody? They murdered a member of the community for the sake of vigilante justice? And you have chosen to write in to me to tell me about your anxieties about whether they will accept you or not?
Reader, I am inferring from your reference to sand-blown plains and coyotes that you are not, in fact, based in the UK – unless the wilds of Shropshire are much changed since last I visited. Usually I am very glad to hear from our readers and listeners from other countries, as there is rarely enough of a cultural difference between us as to make me unable to advise.
But frankly, I have no idea how to respond to this question. These people consider themselves above the law, and you not only have no issue with this, you actually approve!
I appreciate that violent turning can be a profoundly traumatic experience, but if you truly believe in retributive, extrajudicial violence as a way to deal with your problems then I am afraid we are coming at the world from such radically different perspectives that we can have very little to say to each other. Then again, perhaps that difference in worldview was already obvious in your willingness to speak of landlords as "friends".
In short: no, I do not think you should speak with them. I do not think you “owe” them. I think these people are dangerous and frightening, and that there is no power in this world or any other that could induce me to trust them. Frankly, if you disagree, I think you urgently need to reevaluate your attitude towards violence.
Making you mine, forever.
✯+. In which vampire Yeonjun has to bite his mortal boyfriend to be together forever. Knowing that when he does, he releases some sort of afrodisiac that increases Soobin's libido. Like a good boyfriend, he takes full responsibility.
Requested by, anon ✯
Tags;
mentions of blood, Yeonjun is a vampire, Soobin is a human, biting, crying, everything is consensual, manhandling, rough sex, whiny and weak Soobin.
✯
"Why would I do that to you?"
Soobin looked up at Yeonjun as he breathed softly, eyes glossy in tears. "Because.. otherwise we won't be able to be together.. I'd die, and you'll be alone.. forever. Why not be here together, forever?"
Yeonjun exhaled as he brushed over his boyfriend's cheek, staring at his features before he kissed his forehead, thinking. He knew he shouldn't have dated a mortal being, it wouldn't be fair to either to them. But as soon as he met Soobin his entire vision changed, he loved and liked him so much. He wanted to at least experience being with him. But with time, the two of them became unstoppable. They couldn't go a day without each other, and there had even been days where Yeonjun cried because he missed his precious boyfriend so much, he had become so attached.
Soobin also knew that Yeonjun was a vampire, and he didn't mind. He had already decided that nothing that Yeonjun would become, or do would stop his love for him. It felt like they were soulmates, born to be together.
"I don't know.. baby. You'll see your family die, your friends.. everyone. It would be just us.. I don't want to make you suffer like that. I care about you, but I can also just be.. a nice memory, hm?"
Soobin sniffed softly as he shook his head, digging himself more aggressively into Yeonjun's body. And soon enough, he started to sob, making the older's eyes soften. "Love.."
"I don't.. no.. not a memory- we're meant to be together, Yeonjun- just.. it's okay. I'll be okay.. you'll be there to comfort me.. distract me. I just want you.. I just want to be with you." The blonde cried out as he clutched onto Yeonjun's clothes, wiping away his tears while his body trembled, feeling the sadness all throughout his body. He couldn't imagine growing old without Yeonjun, to date someone else. No one would feel like him. "I have been asking you for two years now.. soon I'll be older than you, become an elder and it just.. wouldn't be ideal. You became a vampire at your prime age, so make me one as well.. to be healthy together, forever."
"Are you really sure? You have to promise me. It's permanent. I want you to be sure.. I want you to be happy." Yeonjun whispered quietly, holding onto his boyfriend's hand and intertwining their fingers, eyes soft. "I don't want you to regret this. You're my everything. I'd hate to see you upset." The black haired gently brushed through his boyfriend's blonde's strands before he held onto his chin, making the younger look up gently. "Here.." He whispered, wiping away his tears before he pressed some soft kisses to his boyfriend's lips, giving the crying male a warm smile. "Talk to me.."
Soobin sniffed softly as he closed his eyes at each kiss, staring at the older before he rubbed his own damp eyes, letting out a shake exhale. "I want to.. I want to be a vampire, with you. Forever. Please." Yeonjun listened to the blonde as he exhaled softly, giving a kiss to his boyfriend once more before he nuzzled into his neck, thinking. "Okay.. then we'll be together, forever. Don't get tired of me, hm?"
"No.. never." Soobin managed to giggle out softly, blinking as he felt his boyfriend search for the perfect spot in his neck, shivering whenever he inhaled. "You smell good.. are you ready?" Yeonjun whispered quietly as he pressed his lover as close as possible, squeezing his hand as he listened to Soobin hum in his ear, nodding in approval. "Okay.."
When Yeonjun leaned in to softly kiss on the area first Soobin held onto the male tightly, slightly afraid. But if this meant he could be with his soulmate forever, it wouldn't be that bad at all. Soon they'd be happy, living together and making more and more memories. But as soon as he felt Yeonjun's sharp fangs dig into his neck he let out a soft whine, clutching onto the older tightly. "It hurts.." The younger announced quietly, gently tapping on his boyfriend who just continued to suck his blood, letting out soft grunts as well. It sounded like Yeonjun was enjoying it. "Hyung-"
As Soobin continued to whine the feeling of pleasure started to take over his body, making him shudder and let out a weak moan, confused. "Yeonjun.. it.. feels weird.."
"I know.. shh.. it's okay, focus on the good feeling.." Yeonjun muttered out softly, eyes dark as his lips and tongue were covered in blood, savoring his boyfriend's taste. "Happened to me before.. it'll feel good, I promise.." Soobin whimpered softly as Yeonjun started to suck on his neck instead, whimpering more loudly as the older male picked him up before he placed him onto the bed properly, spreading his legs and caressing them. "What's happening?" The blonde whispered hazily, blinking slowly.
He didn't understand what was going on. But he did trust his boyfriend, which made everything feel so much better. If Yeonjun was confident in what he was doing, he knew he'd be safe. Yeonjun would never hurt him. "When I bite someone it releases some sort of afrodisiac, it increases your libido.." The older explained, gently patting against the wound he created. "How are you feeling?"
Soobin squirmed his hips lightly as he looked up at Yeonjun, eyes soft and hazy. "Needy.. horny, yes.. it also stings a bit, the wound." The blonde murmured, staring up at his boyfriend and breathing softly, cheeks red. Meanwhile Yeonjun was just staring down at his lover, eyes full of love. "I know.. how about I take care of you, hm?" Soobin exhaled softly as he listened to his boyfriend, nodding as he carefully climbed onto his lap to rub himself against the older's crotch needily, mouth agape. "Please.."
Due to his libido going higher and higher the blonde started to forget about his pain, mouth agape as he continued to rut himself against the older, desperate for relief. And soon enough, Soobin was thrown over Yeonjun's shoulder, making him let out a wince as he got taken away to their shared desk, bent over the wooden surface. "Hyung-" Soobin yelped out due to the sudden impact, shivering when he felt his pants being pulled down, making him clench around nothing. Meanwhile Yeonjun was focused on preparing his boyfriend for him, spanking his ass and taking off his boxers as well, staring at his entrance squeezing around nothing but air. "Cute.. patience." The male murmured, spitting on the hole before he instantly pushed two fingers inside, instantly getting a yelp out of his lover.
Soobin stared at the white wall in front of him hazily, squirming around the desk as Yeonjun started to thrust his fingers back and forth to stretch out the blonde, desperate. "I.. can't.. too much- I feel weak.." The dark haired chuckled lowly as he kept up the same pace, watching Soobin. "Shh.. you'll be good."
After penetrating the younger male for a good five minutes he realised he was ready, spreading his ass to take a good look at his hole, staring at him in a hungry way. "You're going to feel so good, baby. It's going to feel so intense."
Soobin hummed weakly as he continued to let out soft winces, hearing Yeonjun rustle with his own clothes before he took off his own, making both the males end up naked. And soon enough, Yeonjun flipped Soobin and made the taller face him. "Hyung this is.."
"Hot? I know." The dark haired picked up his boyfriend once again, making his legs wrap around his hip before he grabbed a hold of his member, carefully rubbing it against the blonde. And instantly, he heard the younger whimper out of sensitivity, carefully walking to their tall window to press Soobin's back against it, but still holding him up in the air. "Shh.. I know baby." Yeonjun bit his bottom lip as he carefully pushed into his warm entrance, letting out a moan of relief while Soobin cried out softly, dick twitching against his abdomen. "Hah.."
Moments like these were one of Soobin's favourites. He loved how his boyfriend always managed to make him feel so good. Plus, everything felt so intimate, like their love was blooming with each orgasm. He didn't have any regrets in becoming a vampire, it meant he got to enjoy his boyfriend's dick for thousands of years.
Carefully, Yeonjun started to swiftly move his hips back and forth, keeping Soobin propped up against the wall as he used his sensitive hole, moaning. "Fuck.. you feel so hot.. must've been so needy.. I should bite you more often." The older male hissed out, nuzzling himself into his boyfriend's neck as Soobin winced quietly, wrapping his arms around Yeonjun's neck for support, being in pure bliss. "Quicker.. please.. want it deep.." Soobin squirmed lightly as he watched how Yeonjun's face was furrowed in extreme pleasure, which made him feel good as well. He loved pleasing his lover so much, it was something he wanted to be able to do for Yeonjun's entire lifetime. And now he could.
"Faster? Okay.." After giving the younger male a few more slow thrusts he soon sped up his pace, starting to pound into his body more precisely, aiming up for his gummy spots. And it seemed to work with how Soobin held onto him more tightly, and his moans started to become more high pitched. "You won't cum already, right..? So soon.." Yeonjun giggled weakly when he saw Soobin's tip leak in precum, exhaling before he picked him up again, pulling out and making him lay on the carpet on their floor, on his stomach. "Hyung.. want to cum, please.. feels really.. hot.. like I got drugged.." The blonde whined out, feeling his butt get raised up. And soon enough, Yeonjun pushed inside of him once more, pounding into him more aggressively while letting out grunts and pants, starting to feel his orgasm approach. "I know.. cum when you need to. I've got you.."
As soon as Soobin heard that he was allowed to cum, he did. Shivering against the carpet as he let out a whiny moan, clenching around his boyfriend as hard as he could as Yeonjun moaned out from the overwhelming feeling, still pounding into him senselessly. And soon enough, he came as well, pulling out to cover Soobin's entire back in white semen, panting. "Fuck.. you're amazing.. so insane.. you drive me insane." Yeonjun hissed, watching how his dick was still squeezing out cum against his boyfriend's back, sensitive.
Soobin panted softly before he smiled, squirming. "You are.. mm.. I feel so good now.. pain is gone. Now we'll be together forever.."
"Yes, love. And you'll get back shots forever as well." Yeonjun joked softly, hugging the blonde tightly as they both giggled the night away. Knowing that they would never have to lose each other made the both of them happier than ever, not having to be afraid of loving each other anymore.
Thank you so much to everyone who read this and I hope you have a nice day, thank you again ♡
The Stranger Things part of this David Harbor interview:
In season four of Stranger Things, you were kind of on your own. You weren't really part of the larger ensemble. Was that tough for you to not be around the group that way? Maybe your work on season five made it a little easier?
It was a challenging season for a number of reasons. The biggest being COVID and just the ripples that that sent through our industry, because we are an industry of intimacy. mean, we are close. We are about humanity. We're about engagement and we had masks and face shields and we were just very afraid of each other. So that was really tough. I also had to do a lot of weird weight loss stuff, that was really tough. The being alone thing is it was kind of OK, because I had to.I mean, we've been together a long time, it's like it's like a family, sometimes you need a vacation. So I think that was in a way sort of fun, and I had guys like Tom (Wlaschiha) and it was it was a cool storyline.
So I enjoyed it. Getting back to the OG crew of this final season has been wild in a way because we have come so far and it is not the show that we started in season one. I think that's a wild experience for all of us. I mean, those kids were 11 years old when we started, 12 years old. Now they're 20 and they're shaving and they aren't kids anymore. Finn (Wolfhard) just directed a movie. I think to have it all come back full circle...We just read we just did a read through of the last episode and the amount of crying... like the episode is very beautiful. But there's also a deeper level of that, this was actually their childhood. They were 11 years old and grew up and fought this monster. And I've never seen so much heavy, heavy weeping from teenagers or young adults in my life.
It wasn't like the Game of Thrones table read for the finale where people were like throwing their scripts across the table.
David Harbour: No, the interesting thing is...there was some cameras there, but we didn't do it for the publicists or the Instagram people. There was something intimate about the way they structured it that I'm hoping that you don't see very much of that, because there was something profound in the sense that we are a family. There is the deeper level, it is about us as individuals who've worked together for nine years since they were kids, and that really came through. There was a real deep kind of honesty and heartbreak and bittersweet quality to all of it.
Have you seen the prequel play?
David Harbour: Yes, I did.
What did you think of it?
David Harbour: I mean, it was interesting.
Did it do something differently with Jim that you were surprised by?
David Harbour: He's like 16, right? It's a whole different thing. I mean, I don't have any ownership of it. I'm sure it's what Harrison (Ford) felt when they did Young Indiana Jones. It's like, OK, this is a guy that you guys own or whatever. I was not consulted creatively. I was not asked anything about it. It's just this is their interpretation. So, yeah, it was interesting. I'm very supportive of all those people involved, and the sweet kid who plays Jim Hopper. I gave him my hat that I wore in season one. I just wanted him to make it his own for him to have ownership of it. So that was a really nice moment.
I never asked to be King Koopa (but I don't have much choice in the matter)
By: Kogane Tsukioka ⚔ (she/they)
Blurb: I describe my experience coping with being a were who heavily identifies as a human and how I dislike the experience because of species dysphoria.
For a while I thought my recurring connection to Bowser from the Mario series is a flickering thing of unknown nature. Our opinion of him usually stops at "we like how he's portrayed in Bowser's Inside Story", and we're not super invested in the franchise as a whole to begin with. I would sometimes think that I share some similarities with him in terms of headspace superpowers and personality. To my initial horror, it's not. It's more than just temporary episodes of feeling vague connections to him out of nowhere. It turns out that I've been a were this entire time, and he's the beast residing within me. Things only escalated from then on.
I started experiencing (or noticing) really vivid shifts ever since, and they're triggered or intensified by stress. I witness myself transform into him on a daily basis and back again after some time. I can feel the changes happen in the form of phantom and somatic shifts as if I'm going through werewolf transformation sequences a la An American Werewolf in London with some differences, and these changes are reflected in my headspace body. The claws, horns, tail, extra body mass, shell, the occasional fire breath buildup, everything save for his accessories. These shifts don't feel painful, but it often feels uncomfortable and accompanied by an accelerated heartbeat and shortness of breath. Sometimes I'd also notice my own mental state temporarily becoming more irritable and animalistic in nature, feeling the split-second urges to growl and rip things apart before snapping back to normal. Some other times, the body would feel heavier or more sluggish when I'm fronting. Other fronters don't feel these intense sensations. Not even my in-sys double experiences this.
I hated it, I feared it, every single minute of it. I never asked for this. It really feels like a curse. There are times where I wouldn't even want to remember his existence because I'd be so afraid of it triggering the transformation. These changes are all outside of my control, and that makes me the odd one out in a system where the norm is voluntary shapeshifting. It also causes dysphoria, especially when I'm doing less than ideal mentally. That may sound outlandish to other people considering both me and the system's body are human, though it may have something to do with me seeing my headspace body (and not our system's body) as my true body. I'm fine with the more minor shifts, but my shifts very often go beyond that limit, going all the way to full-body shifts. To me, the king koopa's form feels too big, too bulky, too powerful, overall just too much for me to handle.
I know, I imagine so many people know and love Bowser. The idea of being this guy sounds really awesome, and I totally understand that. I myself (and everyone else in the system) have nothing against him as a character, person, or whatever. But that's not the point. I have personal reasons for not liking this, and the short version of it all boils down to "this is not who I am". This essay by Gavin describes it perfectly in a more general way, and I guess I ended up being an example of that phenomenon as a human alterhuman.
This is why the whole thing makes me dysphoric, in more detail: I'm a human woman, and that's an important part of who I am. Bowser is canonically a nonhuman man, and most people (if not everyone) see him as such. If I look like him, it feels wrong in terms of physical build, species, and gender, and I don't want to be seen in the same way as him if people know this about me. It feels even scarier considering my unstable sense of self, stemming from a dissociative disorder. Sometimes I'd fear that I'll lose my human identity in some way or another and become a completely different, unrecognizable person. But no matter what my feelings are towards this, I know that I can't just will it away or otherwise fight against it, and doing so would be unproductive.
Logically, I know that acceptance is the best, if not the only way forward, but it's not until much later that I can finally, actually internalize so many self-accepting thoughts that help me stop hating that part of me as much, and I became much happier as a result. In addition to that, I also took some time to modify my wereform so it feels more like me, keeping my human hair and eye colors and using a modified version of my clothes on it. The road to this inner peace is agonizing, not helped by the belated realization that I turn out to have several disorganized parts of myself who see things differently or have different needs compared to my rational mind, but every tiny bit of progress I made was worth it. On present day, for the most part, this condition no longer bothers me as much, but sometimes the dysphoria could come back in full swing and cause problems again, especially when the scared part of me is active at the time.
A key component in accepting this side of me is internalizing that this doesn't make me less of a human woman. At times, it does feel like having my humanity and gender stripped away from me forcefully. But by internalizing "my appearance does not dictate who I am identity-wise", I can help calm myself down no matter what form I'm in, at least in ideal mental conditions. This also helps reduce the discomfort in the shifts, because they tend to feel less comfortable when I'm stressed. Overall, this whole thing is still pretty uncomfortable, but at least I have ways to cope with it.
I recognize that this is very much a median or median-adjacent thing in nature. He's undeniably a part of me, a "wereside" I can communicate with at times, and at this point I'd say I more or less already accepted that he's at least adjacent to a kintype, but just saying I am him? That still doesn't feel right. Sometimes, species identity is not that simple, especially with median plurality thrown into the mix.
Imagine, if you will, a werewolf character who used to be a regular human but ended up being bitten and turned into a werewolf. Imagine that they still identify more with their humanity than animality for whatever reason. They may think "I am a wolf" doesn't feel right no matter how they see it, but "I am a werewolf" fits better because they know the word "werewolf" addresses both the man (were) and wolf, and this is important to them. "The wolf is a part of me that I take the form of at times" also works for them. That's how I see my situation, but instead of a wolf it's a certain fire-breathing princess-kidnapping turtle monster from a popular video game franchise. I think this is why I preferred were and alterhuman as my personal labels over therian or kin. I want to emphasize that I'm very much still human first and foremost, I just have this involuntary form-changing condition affect a significant part of my life. Maybe some parts of me identify as him, but as a whole, it's not enough for me personally to use typical "identify as" labels and language for this. Fictionfolk also fits here, since it's not just for "identify as" identities.
I don't think I've heard much of similar experiences before, and I don't expect this to be a common thing either. We have to basically DIY our own ways to cope with the dysphoria to the best of our ability due to the rarity of this kind of experience compared to the usual "nonhuman being feels uncomfortable with their human body" dysphoria. Either way, I just want to let people know that this experience exists. Maybe it can help someone else down the line or start discussions.
In The Moon's Shadow (Yandere Kokushibo x Reader) Ch4 Beginning
(Warnings: Y/n's boss treats her horribly.
For context the sun looks like the picture above. Pic not mine. Found on Pinterest.)
You didn't remember when you collapsed.
It must've been sometime during the middle of the night because you woke up the next morning collapsed on the floor just behind the table of perfumes. You woke dizzy and confused. Why weren't you in your bed? Where was your house? You had sat up confused. It was still raining outside although not quite as bad as last night. You remember that part at least. It was only when you moved. It was only until something red fell from your lap. When a red candle rolled across the floor. That you remembered.
A demon had visitedh you last night
Disregarding everything else, your body managed to get to the front door of the shop and opened it up to poke your head out and look up and down the streets. Rain pelted everything in sight as grey clouds filled the sky and thunder continued to clash overhead every few minutes. The winds continued to blow the trees but not as bad as last night. The streets remained empty as they had did yesterday. No human or demon in sight. With no one around, you closed the door and backed up into the safety of the store. After a moment of standing there, your head turned and stared at the candle. A moment later feet approached and a hand picked the rather large red candle off the floor holding it up to turquoise eyes. The smell of cinnamon rolled over your senses before a sigh escaped your lips.
"So it wasn't just a nightmare."
A demon had been here. A demon that you had met before in the woods, and who now wanted you to do a custom candle carving for him. His voice from last night echoing in your mind the longer you stared at the cinnamon red candle.
"I want you to carve a sun into this. Make the sun look as if it was made of dancing flames."
For whatever his reasons were, he wanted you to do a custom job for him on the candle. It was such a surreal experience. .. Turquoise eyes glanced at the table. A few bottles of perfume was still knocked over. On instinct a hand reached out to start neatly pushing the bottles right side up, however it paused when eyes caught sight of a green soap bar. The green soap smelled of mint and was partially carved into a blooming rose. It was a bit strange to carve a green mint soap into a rose shape when it didn't even smell like the flower but it was unique and that's what you liked about it. You liked it's scent and spending so much free time carving as much detail you could into it as a hobby. You thought it looked beautiful but then again so did someone else.
"Then I want this also, looking as if it was in full bloom."
The demon had taken interest in it also and ordered you finished it along with the candle. Within two weeks no less. All that hard work you put into it down the drain. But we're you going to argue with a six foot demon that looked like he could rip you in half with a single hand?
No. No you were not.
You could always restart on making you another one. No little piece of soap was worth your life. The surreal day was very quiet aside from the rain, lightning, thunder, and wind. Leaving you alone in the home. Not knowing what else to do, you walked around your boss's home and tided up her living space and doing some chores around her home. It'd be something to help you get your mind off things. In reality you were stalling on returning to your home. It's not that you didn't want to go home to your own house, but you were afraid. Afraid to go outside in the storm by yourself and running into that demon. Or worse. Running into another demon that wasn't so...nice?? You wouldn't say the one you met was friendly but rather him than an unfriendly one.
Eventually after some time you say down at the table and picked up the red candle again looking it over before fetching a small metal stick about as thick and big as a single chopstick, and setting to work starting on the wax. A sun made of dancing flames...You had an idea of what it should look like but it would take at least three maybe four days to carve out such a detailed design on a big candle since you usually didn't do such big designs and so detailed. But you supposed now would be as good as any time to get started you guessed. No one else showed up that day, neither did your boss although you kept glancing out the window for any signs of life. None made themselves known. At the end of the day, you managed to find some food in your boss's food you borrowed and slept on a few spare pillows and blankets you found for the night not wanting to walk home right now. Well..she also said you could stay so you didn't have to walk home in this weather. You awoke the next morning to the sounds of a door opening and the sounds of footsteps shuffling around. It jolted you awake out of fear of the approaching figure, but instantly calmed down as the surprised face of your boss shuffled into her home.
She looked surprised seeing you laying there on the ground but soon scowled at you lying there. "Just what are you doing here?"
You should've known it was here from the shuffling and tiny fast footsteps but you guessed in your sleepy stare hadn't registered it. But you were relieved seeing that it was her. "I-I was tired and fell asleep."
She scowled harder at you. "You slept here? I said you could stay for one night not two!"
"I'm sorry," you apologized to her.
"You used my blankets, and you ate my food!" Her hands rested on her hips in annoyance. "You completely went against what I said!"
"I said that I was sorry-"
A hand was held up to your face. "No excuses! You took advantage of my kindness and I won't have you trying to defend such vile actions!"
"But I cleaned for you-"
"Talking back to me? You don't know when to stop do you?! For that you'll work the rest of this week without pay!," she proudly and angrily stated puffing her chest at your stunned look. "Perhaps that'll teach you not to talk back to your elders! Now get off my floor-" She roughly pointed a hand out the door. "-and go clean those sheets! I won't sleep in them after you used them!"
"But-"
"Talking back again? You can do my entire futon then and make yourself useful!"
You just shut your mouth and decided not to argue with her anymore in order to avoid anymore scolding and possibly more chores thrusted upon her. Under her angry gave, she followed you gathering sheets and laundry before essentially kicking you out arms full of clothes. You stared back at her angry look as she gripped the door.
"And don't return until your finished with it!"
SLAM!!
You flinched when the door slammed shut in your face and you were left standing in the middle of the street. The mud and puddles from the previous two day's showers squished under your feet as you just stepped back..and looked around. The streets were barren still and muddy and wet because of the rain. Water droplets dropped from the roofs and branches of the trees making a faint sound of rain even though it currently wasn't raining. The skies above were littered still with grey storm clouds but they were spaced apart from one another. Hopefully that met the storm was leaving soon. The wind gently blew across the empty streets giving it an eerie feeling. You felt a shiver run down your spine before you turned and started quickly walking down the road towards your home. You'd do the laundry there and change before coming back. Hopefully by then your boss would've calmed down.
The safety and warmth of your own home greeted you with glee and you were happy to be back. Happy to run a quick bath. Happy to do laundry. Happy to clean up around a little bit before just stopping to just take a breather and eat while waiting for the laundry to dry. Some time to yourself for a change before gathering up the sheets and folding them neatly. Gathering them in your arms before leaving your home again back down the quiet streets and back towards your boss's house. Turning one corner- And ramming into what was practically a wall of purple and black. Startled you jumped back and blinked nearly slipping on the muddy ground and looking up before completely freezing-
"Aren't you supposed to be working?" Your eyes stared widely at the looming figure of the demon you saw two night ago. His six eyes glaring down at you under the hat sat upon his head. "It's still rude to stare."
Immediately you froze. A cold feeling running through your veins before immediately your body bowed. "I-Im so sorry, Sir! I didn't m-mean to run into you! That w-w-was my mistake."
He didn't move but did tilt his head at the sheets and blankets you carried before humming. "Yes. I forgotten women must take care of their households. I suppose your husband has you running laundry."
You blinked. "Huh?" You glanced up to him in confusion before leaning back up and shaking your head. "N-No. These are for my boss."
The eyes shifted back up to you making you flinch. "I was under the impression that you were employed at the business I visited two nights ago."
"I am. But my boss ordered me to clean these for her."
The eyes continued to stare at you but became half lidded. "I wasn't under the impression that you were also her personal aid."
"I'm not, but I might as well be with everyone else she's had me do for her. But I have a job and I can't complain about it.'' Your eyes wondered from his face to his haori coat which was soaked and clinging slightly to his body. "You're soaked."
"I know."
"Have you been out in this weather since I met you?"
"Since before I met you," he corrected calmly but bluntly, "I made to stay in your village's inn but it seems no one wanted to answer my knocking."
You glanced over his soaked body for a long moment before looking back up to the sky. The grey clouds were still trudging along slowly. He's been outside in the weather for who knows how long. With everyone still terrified and in hiding, it's unlikely that he'll be able to get proper shelter especially if anyone else knew he wasn't human. You felt a pang of pity for him but.. Turquoise eyes glanced back to the sword on his side. You weren't going to chance anything. Who knows who this man was and what he did for a living? You'd have no part of it...But-
"If it's shelter you want," you spoke slowly making your eyes look back to him, "-there's an old abandoned cabin just outside town where the exit leads further into the mountains." You gestured to the far side of town and the complete opposite of where your home was. "No one's lived in it since the owner died a few years ago. Nowadays it's just used by a few men when they go hunting in the woods."
He did not say anything but just stared at you in silence. You stared back feeling more nervous, the more he bore into your eyes. The mud under your feet squishing as you shuffled uncomfortably.
"...I see," he settled on saying making her jolt slightly. "You should be working. I will not pay if I don't believe that Im not getting my money's worth."
You blinked and bowed- Or .. That's what he was expecting her to do but instead she frowned upon him, her brows furrowing.
"For your information, Sir, I am working on what you wanted," you calmly stated, "My work entails more than just carving so you'll have to understand that I just can't drop my other duties to tend to your order alone. I will get it done how you'll like, but that doesn't mean you will undermine my job."
......He blinked-
"Please give me patience. I understand you want it done within a certain timeframe and your agreement shall be met. Do not rush me for the detailed work you want will take time. I pride myself on not being sloppy." You politely stepped around him. "I'll try to be done by next week's end. Good day to you."
Your shoulder lightly brushed his by accident as you passed his form. He continued to stand there before a hand reached out to where her shoulder lightly brushed his own. Fingers gripped the fabric bunching up his haori sleeve. A head turned silently towards the retreating woman's figure. ...A simple hum escaping his throat.
Your boss was happy when you arrived back a few hours later with the clean sheets, however she then yelled and scolding you loudly over dragging mud onto her porch and onto her home. Demanding that you immediately clean it up then and there, on top of cleaning the floors and mud she HERSELF dragged in when she came back. You didn't argue. You deflated and grabbed a bucket and scrubbing brush from the back, not in the mood to fight and argue with her anymore today. She sat comfortably in the corner painstakingly looking over each and every sheet as you just swept the floors.
"..... There's a stain on the top one here!," she unfolded the top blanket and pointed out a smalL acorn sized stain in the corner of the blanket that would otherwise have been unnoticeable to anyone. "I told you to CLEAN them!"
"But that stain was there long before I cleaned them. It's sauce from one of your lunches you spilt remem-"
"Talking back to me again?! For that you can clean ALL my floors then and I expect you to move furniture! That should teach you for doing an inadequate job and talking back to your elders!"
You wanted to yell at her, but only frowned and returned to your sweeping and biting your tongue. You didn't feel like gaining a headache further from this stupid situation. You found yourself nearly getting spooked by her when she shuffled into the front of the store. Your knees bare from rolling up the hem of your dress and sleeves to better scrub the floors with. Dipping your brush into the water filled bucket next to you before pressing it back against the wooden floors and scrubbing it clean. She stayed to scrutinizingly glare over your shoulder as you did so, but you weren't expecting her to leave for a moment. You felt relieved for only a second before something red blurred in your face. You instinctively jumped back dropping the scrub brush with a thud.
"AHA! And what's this?!," she demanded holding up a red cinnamon scented candle at your face. The very same candle you had left on the small table by the perfumes. "What's the meaning of this? I didn't give you any permission to touch any of the candles! It's a candle to be sold, not a canvas for your hobbies!"
You just stared tiredly letting her finish her yelling before giving an inhale. "I'm not using it for a hobby. Someone asked me to do a custom carving for them."
"Who?!," she demanded squinting her eyes unbelieving at you.
"A man. He came a day or two ago and asked me for a few carvings for him."
"Do you really expect me to believe that?"
"He said he'll be back sometime within two weeks. If you don't believe me, you may wait until he arrives and I'll show you him."
"Don't tell me what I may or may not do in my own home!!," she spat at your tired face, "For that you can scrub the porch too!" She hissed before whipping her hand to the candle and the beginnings of a carving on it... before huffing and turning to drop it back onto the table. "But if you think it will amuse me, I certainly will wait and we'll see this 'man' you speak of. If he exists."
"If? But he does-"
"TALKING BACK AGAIN!! YOU CAN DUST THE SHELVES TOO!!"
You turned back around and just went back to scrubbing the rest of the home's floors. You would not be getting any work done today it looked like. Unbeknownst to the both of you someone saw. Someone who had gone to hunt while you swept and was just now making his way back to a certain cabin with a plump pheasant in his hands from a successful small hunt. Passing yell got his attention briefly on the yelling woman and the young lady scrubbing the floors but he only passed on by with nothing but a hum to the situation.
You in fact did not get anymore work done that day too busy with cleaning everything while the angry older woman continued to scrutinizing you until it got dark enough for you to go home, and by that, your boss made you make her dinner before kicking you out for the night. You went back home exhausted and frustrated at the situation but returned the next day with the intentions of finishing up your work. This time you paid no mind to her angry ramblings or her glares as you just sat back down and began carving into the surface of the red candle. One day turned to two. Two to three. Three to four-
"It's been half a week already. There's still no sign of any man," your boss chastised you while putting more incense bundles she dried up on the shelves one day while giving you a suspicious look as if you had deliberately lied to her.
"I said he was returning in two weeks time, not half of one week." Small shavings of red wax fell to your lap as you began adding the final finishing details into the candle. By the end of today at least one job will be done. You paused to blow the smaller shavings off the wax for a clear view of the patterns etched around the body of the red candle.
The older woman paused narrowing her eyes more. "Are you talking back to me?"
"Not at all. I'm only telling you what he told me," you said politely to avoid anymore arguments.
"Hmm. To me it sounds like you're talking back."
"No. Please not again." You stopped tracing the very last detail in to look over your shoulder at her tiredly. "I promise you I'm not."
"You're definitely talking back to me!" Her expression soured as she crossed her arms and scowled at you again. "So once you're done with that candle, go clean my bathroom before you start on anything else he supposedly asked for. Clearly you haven't learnt your lesson."
"But-"
"Anymore back talk and I won't pay you next week as well!"
You decided to bite your tongue again and just go clean the bathroom after finishing up the candle. It wouldn't have been the first time you cleaned it and you didn't want to lose another week's pay over an old woman's anger. However you supposed you should've went into more detail about what exactly he wanted because she practically flipped when she saw you continuing work on the green soap rose.
"What are you doing?!," she roared as soon as she saw you push the small carving knife into the green soap to continue carving the fake petals. "You're supposed to be working! Not wasting time with stupid toys you're making for yourself!'' she demanded angrily pointing out the objects in your hands.
You didn't even bother looking up this time and only focused on your work. "He wanted this too."
"WHAT?!"
"He saw this and decided that he wanted to purchase this from me too. I told him it'd take me a while and that's why he said he'd return within two weeks time."
She sneered almost instantly. "Now I know you lie! You're only saying that because you want to laze about like a lame cat and fiddle with your own stupid hobbies than put in real work and expecting to be paid still!"
"I never said that I expected to be paid if I lied-," you ever patiently said politely to avoid making her further angry, "-but I did not lie. I'm not doing these things just for myself but genuinely because I am working. And I have put in a lot of real work. I have done everything you have asked me to do."
"Well, since you want to insist on this little charade and lie about this, I'll indulge you only so I can catch you in your lies! But since I know you're lying, and you continue to talk back to me, you can just finish restocking all these shelves yourself while I go visit my grandson." You gave her a look and opened your mouth- "Don't you dare give me that dirty look! For that you can just wash the windows too!"
You decided not to argue as she dropped the last of the incense bundles on the floor and stomped away. You only tiredly glanced as the bundles thudded onto the floor before looking at the soap in your hands still needing to be carved and you sighed. You would not be getting it done as fast as you hoped. You only turned paused your carving and stood up to carefully pick up the incense bundles off the floor to neatly stack them back onto the shelf before turning to walk towards the kitchen in the back. You'd be needing some water to clean up all the windows. A bucket and cloth later, turquoise eyes glanced out of the window towards the outside. A moment later a damp rag was pressed to the glass and started wiping away any dirt and dust. You'll do the inside first before cleaning up the outsides of the windows. Thankfully there wasn't very many so you'd be done quick and be able to get back to work. Turquoise eyes watched the rag on the window.. before glancing up and pausing as they stared into the multiple eyes of a tall demon. The man was there again just on the edge of the porch looking directly at you. Both of you just stood there for a long moment unmoving-
"What are you doing?!" A loud voice made you jump whirling around to your annoyed boss. "I'm heading out now, that doesn't mean you can slack off."
"I-I wasn't! I was just-" You looked back out the window and paused again. He was gone- He was literally standing just right there feet away from you! How did he move so fast?! Your head leaned into the window to look around more. Where did he go?!
"Uh huh. Well if you're done with your daydreaming, get done! I want them spotless by the time I come back!"
You didn't make any complaints as she left. You did not see anymore demons that day.
The town had slowly gone back to normal over the last few days as you continued on your carving. People started coming out again cautiously at first and only the men to gather supplies for their families. But they soon fell back into routine which was enough reassurance for their women to go out too followed by their children like the scare a week before had never happened. You supposed it should've been comforting to you to see life back to normal but you knew there actually was a demon about. A very tall demon with a sword...
But he hadn't made a move to harm anyone.
The most he's done that was even remotely threatening so far you've seen was that night you first met, when you realized he had been gripping his sword in defense, but you had snuck up on him so you couldn't blame him for being on the defensive and he had stood down as soon as he saw you didn't mean him any harm. And he also hadn't shown any other aggressiveness from the few other times you saw one another. Sure he might've been a bit rude and blunt but that's hardly dangerous. So you decided to keep it to yourself. That...and you didn't know what your boss would do next if she had found out that the man you were doing business with wasn't a human man. One more day. One more step closer to finishing. You were almost done with it now cutting each little fake petal into the soap until it looked like a little green rose. You left your finished work next to the red candle with the bright swirling sun carved into its red wax. Your boss continued to scrutinize you as the end of the time frame approached. Often looking outside and commenting that she never saw anyone.
"No one came in for you today."
Or whenever there was a customer, she'd comment on how they weren't there for the carved items.
"That was Mr. Sako. He bought some bath salts for his wife, but I see he didn't even mention anything about your work."
Or just plain accusations.
"I'm starting to run out of patience for your game! Make yourself useful and get me some tea!"
You were starting to get worried. It was almost the end of the week and you hadn't seen this demon yet. You'd thought about going to the old cabin and seeing if he was there, but the thought of going to see a demon alone didn't sound like a good idea even if he hadn't done anything to anyone. You only hoped for him to show up soon.
With another day coming to a close you just went about minding your own business sweeping the floor when a huff made you pause in your movements and look over. The older woman could be seen at her little station in the back pulling a blue candle out of a small cauldron in the fire where bubbling wax was boiling. The process of candle making warmed up the home a lot, and as it was already a warm summer, the windows had been opened and the door left wind open to help regulate the heat.
"It's getting close to sundown," she commented holding up the candles above the cauldron by the wicks, watching as the wax dropped off then and back into the pot before she'd let them cool a bit and add another layer by dipping them back in. Repeating the process until they were the size she wanted them to be. "The day will be over soon. Don't you think you should head home?"
"I will after I finish sweeping like you told me," you politely said with a smile.
She only huffed before turning back to her work. "I'm surprised that you're insisting on getting back on my good side. After all, after this week is over and Im proven right, you won't be getting any pay for at least a month for lying to me for so long."
You frowned before just sweeping the floors again. This really wasn't your best time. The bristles swept the small pile of dirt closer and closer towards the open doorway as your focus was mainly on the floor pushing the dirt along until the broom bumped against something in the way. Turquoise eyes followed the thing on the floor before pausing in sudden realization as a foot stood there right next to another. Your head snapped up. A gasp escaped your throat and the broom dropped from your hands with a clatter. The noise had caught the attention of the older woman who turned with an annoyed look but also paused shocked seeing the looming tall figure in the doorway.
The demon had returned.
He stayed inhumanly silent as you both stared back at him before he decided to speak. "I'm here to see if you have finished." His voice was as monotone and blunt as ever as his head tilted at you. "I did tell you that I would be back."
Your boss froze seeing him letting the wax drip out onto the floor no doubt making a mess. You stood there blinking before slowly exhaling and giving him a smile. "O-Oh. Of course. I'm sorry. I didn't hear you walk in. You startled me."
"Apologies."
"No it's alright." You held up a hand making him blink. "I'm sure you didn't mean to do don't apologize." That...wasn't something he expected her to stay. You smiled wider before pointing at the inside of the home. "I finished every just today so you came at a great time. Come in and I'll show them to you."
You walked on over to the small table in the middle of the room and he slowly followed silently stepping over the broom on the floor. He watched as she smiled and lifted two objects in her hands before turning back to him with a smile and presenting them out to him. The smells of cinnamon, cloves, and mint filled his senses and he was almost taken back when he first saw them, six eyes widening.
"I hope you're pleased with them." The eyes looked back to turquoise ones. The unusual pretty color of them catching the lantern light above her making them sparkle like two clear pools of water making them go even more wide. "I tried to put as much detail as I could into the designs without making it too complicated. I hope that's alright."
He didn't speak for a moment. Taking in the sight of her sparkling eyes... Turquoise. Strange color. He'd never seen another woman with such a specific color eyes. It seemed like a perfectly calm and cool color matching her soft features, especially her soft lips smiling at him and the slight rosiness of her cheeks no doubt caused by the heat in the house, but it was such a soft pink one could confuse her for blushing. Blushing at him-
BU-BUMP-
A clawed hand harshly dug into the front of his haori as the rest of his body, including his eyes stayed motionless and fixated on you. The sudden grip of his arm made you jump and blink at his hand gripping his chest.
"A bee." She blinked back to him. "There was a bee flying about. Forgive me." His hand slowly lowered from his chest to reach out to her hands holding the objects. "I would like to examine the objects before I decide on any payment."
She nodded holding them out to him. "That's perfectly fine. I'd want to be sure you're getting what you're paying for."
She watched him pick up the candle first, his calloused hands brushing against her scared palms. ..Soft. Her skin was softer and warmer than it looked- He forcibly pushed those thoughts to the side and just looked at the red candle. Again eyes widened. Carved with the curve of the candle was a spiral circle twisting around itself, on the outside of the strange spiral circle was flames reaching out and dancing in different directions. It was...Lovely. His brother would no doubt definitely like this. She didn't say anything when he reached out and just took the other object from her hands and looked at it. The smell of mint was added to the spicy cinnamon, as he stared at the green soap carved into a rose. It wasn't the real thing, but it looked rather close to it. This should suffice for his wife.
You felt a slight nervous feeling the longer he stared at them before he bothered talking. "These will suffice."
A breath you didn't know you were holding escaped your mouth in a relieved sigh before smiling again at him. "I'm glad you find my work acceptable."
"What's your price?"
"Uh..." You.. hadn't really thought about that. You were too busy trying to get the work actually done and doing whatever your annoyed boss ordered you to do. "I..I haven't really thought about that actua-"
"Fifty ten!" You jumped and turned as your boss confidently shuffled up beside you both and proudly smiled at him. "No more no less! I charge a decent amount for my wares!"
You stared at her in shock. How could she stand there and dare yell at a frightening looking demon?! But then you realized. She must not know he's a demon. His long bangs hid most of his eyes and the darkness of the low hat he wore disguised anything else that might've peeked through, so unless you pushed them out of the way, you'd have no idea he wasn't human. Otherwise he looked completely normal like any other man. Nevertheless his head tilted at her... before silently looking back at you.
"How much did you want?" You looked back to him. "Money is not an issue."
"I just said-"
"It's rude to interrupt a conversation, especially one where you're not involved in, Woman." Your boss stopped shocked by his tone and you also looked surprised by his sudden slight annoyed tone. "I'm speaking to the one who actually put in the work."
Your boss stared slack jawed, obviously caught off guard that she'd dared to be talked like this before she again scowled and pointed at him. "I'll have you know that the candle and soap you're holding was made by my hands!!"
"And yet you're not the one who's made them into beautiful artworks. You did nothing but leave them to be used for anyone else to enjoy. My business is not with you."
"I put my hard work into those things! Who do you think you're talking to, Boy?!"
"A nagging wench who should learn to hold her tongue." Your jaw dropped and eyes went wide as your boss turned a deep red and so angry you were expecting steam to pop from her eardrums. "I refuse to do business with one who refuses my existence. Your wailing is so obnoxious that I could hear it in my sleep. You're position of owner doesn't apply to authority over her like a slave."
You were stunned to say the least. Watching silently as he just told your angry boss off like a child before his hand reached into the folds of his haori coat. The sounds of metal jingling filled the air as a decently sized bag was pulled out and held out to you.
"I believe this will cover the expenses for each of them."
You only continued to stare at the bag before shaking hands reached out to take it from him and good gods!! It had a bit of weight to it. Automatically you reached up to pull the strings lose and pull the cloth back- Only to almost have your eyes bug out of your skull at the sight of shining yellow.
"I-Is this-"
"Yes. And it's only for you. If anyone else should try to take it for whatever reason-" He spoke while putting his free hand on the hilt of his sword. "-I will not be so kind then." His actions got the old woman to go wide eyed before gulping and taking a step back.
"I-I don't know w-w-what to say." You stuttered out looking back at him. "I-I can't accept this much. T-This is much too much. I-Id be taking too much from you." Your hands held it back out to him. Your actions in doing so surprised him as he leaned back surprised. "At l-least take it back so we can work out a more appropriate payment."
He stared before turning his head from it. "No. You'd offend me more if you refused my offer." His words had you lower the bag. "Take it to make up for the lost wages my presence here has cost you." Wait. How did he know about that? "My business here is concluded. Will you be leaving soon?"
You just...numbly nodded before on autopilot reached down to pick up the broom again and just made back for the dirt pile that was still in front of the door. "I just need to finish the floor here." You mumbled.
"Then I shall wait and walk you home as it's late." He silently watched for a few seconds as you numbly finished your sweeping before turning back to the still pale old woman. "...Your wax is boiling over."
Her head snapped around and a screech left her mouth as the candle wax left unwatched boiled over and dropped messily into the fireplace the smell of burnt wax filling the air.
Her screech had snapped you out of your stupor and you made to help her but a strong hand grabbing your wrist had stopped you. "She can fix her own mess for once. Leave her and head home."
You could still hear her cussing and wails as you chose to walk down the street with a demon still holding your wrist, being too nervous to argue with the tall demon. The bag of gold coins firmly in your other hand as you awkwardly started walking down the road like this. A few people still walking around despite the setting sun stopped to give you both some curious looks but you only looked down red in embarrassment. This was incredibly strange and awkward for you and you had no idea what to think of this or how to feel. The best you could do was to just walk faster hoping to get to your home faster and get this over with. He said nothing during the entire duration of your traveling until you had tugged on your wrist and stopped in the middle of the road. He obliged and let you go as you looked at him.
"I-I live on the end of this road. You can part ways w-with me now," you spoke still politely as he looked at you, "T-Thank you for...for...for everything however. It was a pleasure doing business with you."
He only gave you a half lidded look. "That woman. She is the owner?"
You blinked as he just blatantly ignored anything you just said but slowly answered, "Yyyeesss?"
He hummed. "Hm. I am surprised that she's able to keep her business running the way she does ordering everyone around her like that."
You shrugged. "She's always been that way. People around here are just used to her by now. I'm used to it too."
"That is why you are a pushover?"
You frowned. "I'm not a pushover. I just don't have many options for a job being a woman especially in such a small town like this. If I quit or get fired then my only other choices would be to either settle down with one of the men as a wife or became a maid in the local inn."
"Do you not already work at that woman's maid?"
"Yes, but at least with her I know what I'm dealing with. The inn is also the local tavern where men like to drink. Id rather not deal with the drunk shenanigans of men...Ah. No offense."
He blinked. "You apologize to me as if I were a man to be offended-"
"Aren't you?," she asked innocently tilting her head and blinking her large eye almost...cutely. "I may not know a lot about you, but you are a man. Aren't you?"
"I am a demon."
"How is that relevant? You are a man, and I don't think you should be treated differently because of the small fact of being a demon or not."
He didn't say anything. Just stared at you with those eyes studying your figure for a long moment. Turquoise eyes blinked back at him sparkling from the retreating sunlight.
"....You should go home to your husband before it gets dark."
"I'm not married." He hummed at you. "I don't have a husband. I'm not seeing anyone."
A beautiful woman like her without a husband? Doubtful. At the very least she was already being courted and closed to being engaged.
"Hm...You should go inside before it gets dark. Women shouldn't stay out at night where it's dangerous."
You took that as your chance to leave. With another bow, you quickly turned and practically sped walked down the street until you got to your house at the very end of the road. You turned back once, made eye contact with his form, smiled and waved at him, before turning back around, and quickly opened the door. He watched her form fully disappear inside her home before turning and starting to walk away towards the exit of town.
Shame...She was rather lovely. Such unique eyes as well.
