personally i think solas is bald because of one or more of these reasons:

woke up after uthenera, couldn't immediately access the fade without effort, had a nervous breakdown and shaved his head. who among us hasn't had an Emotional Haircut.

he does have a bit of the facial structure of a silmarillion elf, and might blow his cover as a Nondescript Elven Apostate™ if he also had the long flowing hair of a silmarillion elf.

easier to maintain and keep clean while doing his hobo lifestyle of wandering around alone in thedas.

he's worried about any surviving murals/statues of him with hair still existing, because that would be awkward if someone sees one and goes "wow, this 5000 year old artifact looks exactly like you! how funny :)"

mourning/penance ritual in elven culture. possibly even bc he feels bad about felassan but cannot otherwise acknowledge the implications. since that would imply that a) it was unnecessary to do that and b) if felassan was right, that means they ran a whole insurgency together, he survived the fall of arlathan and however long in a hostile thedas afterwards, and then fell to his oldest friend's hand for no reason. this would also make sense with zathrian's baldness.

some kind of "i'm locking in, i'm shaving all my hair to show i'm really serious about this quest and nothing will stop me" ritual in elven culture. this would also make sense with shartan, since his ashes ghost is bald too.

Fic-to-Art #42: Hotaru, Mari and Zi

This month, our prompt was children, specifically our next gen kiddos in Gladiator. Surprising very few people, this little trio got the win, even though another trio (Yue's kids!) were really close runner-ups! It's a lot more interesting to write kid characters than I ever expected, even in a story as dark as what I work on. The dynamics between these three will be lots of fun to write someday, I know it! But for now, we get to enjoy a glimpse of them together in art form, with Mari having given the three of them makeovers with all those ponytails and pigtails and what have you x'D

I really hope you guys enjoy this piece, it was a lot of fun to work on <3 they're adorable cousins and it's always wonderful to think of how their eventual bond will be undisputable proof that their world is healing for good, after all the efforts of their respective parents.

obsessed with the fact that if you choose the last purple option in lucanis' romance chat before going off to tearstone island ("they MOVED the MOON!!!" still in the running for the best delivery in the whole game btw it's so ineffably hilarious to me), it's rook who flinches away just a little bit (if still warmly <3) and tries to change the topic and lucanis who's steady even though he's clearly still so afraid. 'don't tempt fate'/'*the softest fucking voice you've ever heard in your entire life* I don't intend to'. pain and suffering

lucanis looking at rook and helplessly, with a wonder that verges on despair, saying 'what would I do without you?' is soooo. especially at that point in the relationship and with what's about to happen. and for whatever reason rook can't quite stay with the fact that they do mean that much to someone, that they are so reverently and so groundingly 'I want to know what your favourite food is so I can make it for you any time you want it' everyday loved, it's too much and they have to deflect from it or the fear of losing it. can say some very interesting things about them, too.

(there is also a Pattern in that in my estimation lucanis frequently responds better to inviting humour than to earnest shows of concern -- it seems to help him be more engaged/online to be offered that more neutral space to meet you in and uh 'build' the conversation around something funny together than to be confronted with compassion head-on because that clearly mostly deer-in-the-headlights him, as we also see with some of the early flirt options haha. contrast this especially with bellara, who repeatedly gets genuinely upset if you try to make light of some pressing and painful situation she's dealing with (girl I'm so sorry I'm so jestercore and I canot change this but I'll try :'( for you). I think the times lucanis reacts negatively to the purple options are much more about you siding with other (frequently more charismatic lol) people against him or throwing him under the bus interpersonally -- like seeming to go along with illario's charm offensives, or telling teia lucanis didn't want to come help out with caterina's funeral and he'd just sit alone and brood about it if you didn't force him (???!!! hello??? unprovoked and deeply unkind out of left field???? this option is so fucking MEAN and for what fhdaskjfa you're telling me there's no way for rook to be a bit of a dick in this game?)

when it's one on one conversation he consistently seems to find it quite comforting, though... which makes a lot of sense because in many ways it's how he interacts with illario, just shorn of the resentments and hidden daggers and things they Do Not Talk About but really should beneath the levity that makes it sharp. it's gone ugly between them, but I think the affectionate instinct beneath is real and goes back a long way before all of that festered -- it's a form of play he does with people he loves. and uh. not really caterina huh. notably.)

So like. I've learned so much about this man in the past 48 hours but my final thoughts are:

I'm praying for healing and safety for Maya Henry and all the girls he manipulated/ attacked. I hope his son grows up healthy and loved and that all his loved ones do well to avoid social media for the time being.

That's where my sympathies end. He was manipulated during his youth as well, but I will never feel sorry for abusers.

If you liked the band growing up and have fond memories of makes sense to mourn that experience. But we don't know these people, we only know what they present to us, and Liam already was violent in the public eye.

also in that interview with gaider when he talks about how everyone was disappointed with da2 when it came out, even though the developers thought that people would accept a smaller-scale game... it's funny and kind of sad when now almost everyone loves da2 and loves that it had a contained story/setting. for many of us it's now our favourite game in the series. it's really taken so many years for people to truly appreciate it lmao and understand what they were trying to do with it... I know video game fans tend to have knee-jerk reactions to everything that is even slightly different from what they were used to in previous installments but it would be sort of nice to go into things with a more open mind. different doesn't necessarily mean bad; da2 diverging from the style of origins meant they could tell a very unique sort of story, one that in my opinion is much more intriguing than the plots of either origins or inquisition and was necessary to set the stage for any other stories within Thedas. Da2 had its problems but where would we be without it
