Wifey comes home today and the dogs don't know it so they officially hit peak wretched baby behavior yesterday and have slumped into depressed baby behavior today. I do have work today but it's my short day so I'm thinking after I'm done with work and before I head to the airport with doggos to pick up wifey, I'll wash dishes and dogs.
That way wifey doesn't feel like the house is exactly as she left it you know? I definitely know it's not in worse shape I was very careful to always clean up my presence, but I want her to not have to clean up things that were here a week ago when she left either cuz that sucks and just because I was busy and had a hard time getting around to them shouldn't make them her problem. Most things like that aren't a big deal, or are things we specifically planned for (e.g. she emptied the litterbox right before she left and it's self cleaning so it only needs to be done once a week) but the dishes were a fluke that snuck by us in the last couple days before she left and then I literally never once had the spoons to get to them (heh) while Wifey was gone. Which I expected! I kinda figured that I would either do them all on Friday or maybe if I was very lucky do 1 round a dayon the others. So at least I'm on schedule lol.
Anyway, I did also clean the tub this week, and pick up the laundry in the bathroom, so I figure I might also do a quick wipe down in bathroom (sink, toilet, tub, sweep floors, take out trask) since it usually only takes 15 minutes and would make the whole room look really nice at this point. That plus shiny dishes and dogs is bound to make wifey happy coming home.
Anyway, my morning plans are as follows:
throw chili in the crock pot for dinner tonight
maintenance clean of bathroom
first round of dishes
take out the bedroom and bathroom trashes
refill pet water fountains
Extra Credit: unpack the monthly grocery grocery delivery and confirm their allergen listings
So far I'm over 100% on my tasks today and feeling great about it!
In the next hour I've got some work tasks to do, a little documentation stuff to prep for the day basically, and then it's off the the races for my short day with clients, my one on one, and then me getting the dogs ready for the evening!
Managed to finish all of my work prep stuff even the thing I was sure I wouldn't manage! So yay to that! We're still at "all essential AND all extra credit tasks completed" for each phase of my day so far, though obviously I'm not gonna elaborate on the work stuff for privacy reasons.
Feeling good about the day, feeling good about my ability to get shit down now that I've been back on my meds for a week, feeling pretty good overall! I do think I might be headed for a no show today but I'm fine with that because it'll just give me an extra 45 min for dishes and one less note to write before I switch over to household tasks this afternoon.
I am contemplating doing an extra credit task of throwing on new sheets and remaking the bed fresh and clean for wifey since Jaxxine crunched her yams all over this one all week on top of chewing on the fitted sheet like a pacifier to calm herself lol. But we'll see how that goes.
I've managed to get both blankets into the wash, and the quilt is already in the dryer, so I figure I'm definitely remaking the bed now. I'm most of the way through the tough jobs and then all that's left is the easy or fun ones. I do have to leave in about 3 hours tho, so I'm definitely running low on time. Gotta prioritize a bit and wittle down my remaining tasks. Dinner's all set but for some rice if we decide to make it. I may just empty the dish rack and not worry about washing a 3rd load unless I finish everything else in time. Jaxx definitely needs a bath next, then the tub a wipe down, the pets fed, and me a shower. At that point we're likely to be ok the edge of time so I'm thinking remake the bed and then kitty fun den and then prep the dogs for our trip.
After work plans are as follows:
2-3 more rounds of dishes 1 more round of dishes
bathe the lassie (START WITH THE LAD)
Feed the dogs dinner
bathe self
wipe down tub
build kitty fun den with dinner and treats
pick up wifey from her trip
Extra Credit: wash the blankets dry the blankets
Extra Credit: remake the bed with fresh sheets and blankets

Part of the grocery order that came in yesterday evening. All of these were sale items, and we have two (smallish) packs of pork chops plus an accidental two bunches of green onions. That's only one of them, and some of the onions themselves are pretty big. Good thing they do hold well in water, but guess we're getting plenty of green onions for a while!
These are also some of the fresh items that I thought should be used the soonest, and no reason they couldn't profitably go together. So, quasi-Japanese is looking good tonight! Mr. C also remembered to pick up some sake from Systembolaget the other day, so we should be better set for that.
With a side dish of pseudo-Chinese cucumber salad on the side, currently marinating itself in the fridge. Using some of the green onion, naturally. I just sliced the cucumber fairly thickly this time; it's all good.
A great use for the oyster mushrooms and at least a couple of the shiitake (plus another big green onion instead of the regular onion!):
youtube
JAPANESE SPAGHETTI with Mushrooms (Easy Pasta Recipe)
(Another version of kinoko pasta with bacon, from Hiroko Liston who also has a bunch of solid recipes.)
Since I don't have any plans in the near future for the rest of that pack of shiitake, I'm thinking of just drying what's left for later. That does tend to work out well, and we don't have any dried ones right now. Couldn't pass up the deal even without immediate plans for all of them! 😊
As for the pork chops, the one pack is also chilling out in a Ziploc in the fridge with a variation of this miso marinade:
I actually threw some lemon pepper seasoning in there instead of the yuzu chili paste, because we have it and it ought to taste fine--if in a rather different slightly spicy citrus direction. The basic marinade would also be awesome with just some garlic and ginger instead, and/or using chicken instead of pork. I am also planning to just quickly sear those thin loin chops in a skillet, then reduce the marinade in the same pan teriyaki style.
(Will I blame Nami if any of my monkeying around with her recipe goes horribly wrong? Not hardly! But, it should hopefully be all good, from previous experience cooking similar things.)
A little more work overall than I was planning on today, but hopefully worth it for a nice fresh meal.

French Onion Soup | Lori Levin
French onion soup is traditionally topped with Gruyère, but other cheeses can be used. Most French onion soups are topped with three cheeses for maximum decadence.
½ cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cups sliced onions
5 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons dry sherry
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 pinch salt and pepper to taste
4 slices French bread
4 slices provolone cheese
2 slices Swiss cheese, diced
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
Melt butter with olive oil in an 8-quart stock pot over medium heat. Add onions to butter and continually stir until tender and translucent. Do not brown the onions.
Add beef broth, sherry, and thyme. Season with salt and pepper. Let simmer for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven's broiler.
Ladle soup into oven-safe serving bowls and place one slice of bread on top of each (bread may be broken into pieces if you prefer). Layer each slice of bread with a slice of provolone, 1/2 slice diced Swiss and 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese.
Place bowls on a cookie sheet and broil in the preheated oven until cheese bubbles and browns slightly, 2 to 3 minutes.
What can in use instead of Sherry? lol any red wine :D
French cuisine is known for its rich flavors and variety of dishes, including stews, soups, and baked goods.
Coq au vin: A stew of chicken or rooster braised in wine, mushrooms, onions, and seasonings. It's often served with potatoes or bread.
Boeuf bourguignon: A stew made with beef, vegetables, and red wine from the Burgundy region. [improv making this, no onions]
Cassoulet: A bean casserole that originated in southern France and is typically made with pork or duck.
Pot-au-feu: A stew made with beef, vegetables, and herbs.
Bouillabaisse: A fish soup that originated in Marseille and is traditionally made with European conger, red rascasse, or sea robin.
French onion soup: A classic French soup.
Making a highbred French No-Onion Soup, that resembles Boeuf Bourguignon bc there is a tonne of vegetables + beef. It has cheese, three to be exact bc I was gunning for decadence...bc I was winging it in terms of the sequence of throwing in the ingredients. Well I guess this is why we're supposed to amass every ingredient before starting, in case we actually are missing a common staple that should actually be in the pantry. It smells good, even before I add the wine.
So it tastes amazing, no ifs or buts, I do not apologize for the home grown chilis that are making your eyes tear up, you're welcome I just kick started your metabolism & salivation so you can taste your food better & fight off whatever is floating around in the dead air tonight.
Okay maybe next time I will pre-taste the chili to sense whether it's a burner or not, but I wasn't really thinking at all today. You can't go wrong with French Cooking when they use all these flavour cheats like butter/cheese/wine. I threw in chicken stock as a nod to the master chefs who like to confuse their patrons with complexity; it was a total fusion bc I added ginger & a three whole things of garlic.
That was my improv to the lack of onion, I was going to make garlic soup instead as part of my stubborn streak's homage to FOS. And I made it all in one pot, a pressure cooker which I've noticed makes whatever soup look like a consommé despite not skimming off the scum, it's such a great way to make something appealing with minimal effort. All the scum is plastered against the pot, lol it's probably another miracle from GOD tbh bc if you can't replicate it & think I'm lying - I'm absolutely not. HE does this kind of thing from time to time, like I have a dead insect on my room wall from last year which I cursed & it died on the spot. I thought it took a nap or something, but no it bit the spoon. I left it there as a reminder of the power of our words, but tonight is the collapse, so excuse me.
Consommé is defined quite simply as a clear soup made with concentrated stock, but the French word comes loaded with perceived meaning. Consommé comes from the latin consummate, which means ``to complete, finish, or perfect.'' As if to say that any soup besides consommé is rather imperfect.
Yes I ignored every last word of advice from Carl Jung to analyze why so-and-so annoys me, I am not going there tonight, but on the other hand it connects the idea of why treating others badly is hurting yourself. Kind of, if you hate someone bc it is a trait you hate in yourself.. whatever, it's completely fine to be self-loathing.
P.S. I'm joking most things I make can fail big time, this is GOD.
I can see why chefs deconstruct dishes to make for more eye appeal. Some of these dishes look exactly alike. My goal is to find a blogger from Portugal, which has some of the most amazing flavour combinations.
Visual display was prized. Brilliant colors were obtained by the addition of, for example, juices from spinach and the green part of leeks. Yellow came from saffron or egg yolk, while red came from sunflower, and purple came from Crozophora tinctoria or Heliotropium europaeum. Gold and silver leaf were placed on food surfaces and brushed with egg whites. Elaborate and showy dishes were the result, such as tourte parmerienne which was a pastry dish made to look like a castle with chicken-drumstick turrets coated with gold leaf. One of the grandest showpieces of the time was a roast swan or peacock sewn back into its skin with feathers intact, the feet and beak being gilded. Since both birds are stringy, and taste unpleasant, the skin and feathers could be kept & filled with the cooked, minced & seasoned flesh of tastier birds, like goose or chicken.
The most well-known French chef of the Middle Ages was Guillaume Tirel, also known as Taillevent. Taillevent worked in numerous royal kitchens during the 14th century. His first position was as a kitchen boy in 1326. He was chef to Philip VI, then the Dauphin who was son of John II. The Dauphin became King Charles V of France in 1364, with Taillevent as his chief cook. His career spanned sixty-six years, and upon his death, he was buried in grand style between his two wives. His tombstone represents him in armor, holding a shield with three cooking pots, marmites, on it.
This was all preceded by the post by Dr. Steven Gundry on Butyrate & I felt that it worked the moment I jacked my vegg proportion to 75% of the food I eat, not just 33.3% so tonight's meal was in light of this discussion. OMAD + no sugar & minimal fruit intake..? One year from now I'll be different, GOD willing of course. But the dark cloud is still there, something is going to get a lot worse.

7/29/24, witching hour
Eatin' dinner. Tried to approximate a sorta beef and broccoli thing with ground beef. Was too lazy to make the broccoli though so I basically just threw in the ground beef, seasoned it, browned it, added a couple handfuls of frozen green bellpepper and frozen onion (I buy them cheap and then chop 'em up and freeze them for future use), made a sauce out of worcestershire, soy sauce, a LOT of black pepper, red chili flake, and I think just a sprinkle of sugar, and then threw in like a handful of frozen green beans I've got a big already-open bag of in the freezer. Threw it together with some rice, lil furikake, lil sriracha, boom. Food. Tonight I also added some edamame beans to the mix.
Gym was enlightening. Turns out I struggle on a 3x8 set of lateral side raises with 10lb weights. My shoulders are shiiit. I'm told their development is heavily linked to your testosterone level. Well guess who had a rock-bottom testosterone level at his last physical? This guuuuuy. But that'll kinda get repaired as I keep up the weight lifting- at least that's the hope. Compound exercises, like squats especially, are great for boosting your testosterone. Just gotta keep lifting heavy and soon I'll be moving up to 15lb dumbbells like the big boys :D :D :D
No but really though I do hope my testosterone shoots up to normal levels by doing this. I've mentioned that I have like, very low sex drive and low interest in sex in general, and it's got me thinking I'm demi, but it could ALSO just be that I'm depressed and my hormones suck shit, but exercise helps with mental stuff and should theoretically fix my hormones. If it DOESN'T, well, I know that it's something else and I'm not JUST fat.
That's right folks, I'm NOT just working out to get huge or whatever- we're eliminating VARIABLES, BABY!
At least the way I figure, I can't afford therapy, or doctor visits, or medication, or anything like that, but maybe I can at least do this. At least I can say I'm doing as much as I can, making as much as an effort as I possibly can, to do right by myself by giving my brain the best foundation it can hope for to do what it's SUPPOSED to do- a functional, healthy body.
On that note I should get some metamucil. Regulating my digestion would probably help my body absorb nutrients way better.
Also side note I think I've perfected the dry to wet ratios on my overnight oats, but time will tell. I've been measuring my oats by weight to 40g but honestly I think being THAT specific is kinda cringe, so I just went for the full half-cup instead, and then did slightly UNDER a half-cup of milk, doubled the chia seeds to a full tbsp, and kept everything else the same- big spoonful of yogurt, rounded scoop of protein powder. No sweetener, but this time I added a rounded tsp of instant coffee and about the same in cocoa powder, and then this morning I added, like, literally like a tsp of this coffee creamer my roommate's nana recommended I try, and it came out really good, so I'm trying to recreate that tonight. We'll see what happens!
Uh last thing I guess, I made an impulsive purchase I probably shouldn't have. Monday nights where I work, I'm basically babysitting the place while it more or less runs itself, so once any tasks I need to get done GET done, I read a book. I had meant to bring an extra book with me today cause I was like a 10-15 sitdown away from finishing my at-the-time current book, but forgot, so I ran down to the closest book store and picked up one that I've had my eye on for a WHILE and have just never found at my local discount book shop: Slewfoot by Brom. I've read from Brom before and enjoyed his work, so I'm looking forward to digging into this one more- I already like what I've read so far. I feel like I'll finish this one quickly. Twenty bucks is a little steep for me as far as books go since I'm used to like, old beat-up $2 dollar paperbacks off the clearance rack of discount book shops, but I think it's gonna be worth it, and I think I deserve a treat now and again.
Actual last thing I've been playing Golden Sun. I've played it before but I didn't get very far in that run so long ago so I'm experiencing a lot of it for the first time and it's actually really good. I actually /love/ the Djinni system and the way that your moveset changes as you cycle them mid-battle, it's really cool. Looking forward to more of that.
NOT looking forward to the DOMS I'm gonna have tomorrow or the next day, but AM looking forward to drawing. I have some ideas. Here's hoping the whole "exercise helps you focus" thing holds some truth. Wish me luck.

Exiting the kitchen of the restaurant I passed Mandy while I went to grab some menus hearing the door bell ring so I turned on my heels dropping them on the floor seeing my daughter and Georgie standing at the hostiest stand waiting to be seated. "Uh hi Georgie, what exactly are you doing here?" It felt weird even though he's technically the father of my child.
"Well, this little one wanted to come watch mommy work. Plus, she loves their chicken fingers and tator tots." He responded, holding her in his arms, causing me to hold the menus closer to my chest immediately thinking about tator tots the second he said it.
Clearing my throat, I knew I needed to focus on my job right now. "Great. Right this way, you two." Putting them in a booth, he hands me back the menus, ordering a cheeseburger and what my daughter likes. But he grabbed my wrist, gently pulling me to a stop.
"After you're shift would you be open to spending the evening with me?" His brown eyes locked onto mine while Aurora was coloring in a picture with scribbles.
Biting my lip, I nodded slowly, heading back inside the kitchen. "Sure. I just have to find someone to watch Aurora."
"What's got you so upset?" Mandy entered the kitchen, seeing me leaning up against the wall, still holding tightly onto the menus instead of putting them back on the host stand. "You act like you've seen a ghost."
Running a hand through my hair, I throw my head back against the wall. Hearing plates slid over to me, telling me I had to go back out there and face Georgie even though part of me didn't want to. "The father of my child is out there right now with her...the problem is I got in a car accident, and I don't remember ever loving him. But now, every once and a while, he says something that makes me more confused than I already am. What do I do?"
"If he hasn't ever broken your heart or been mean to your daughter, I'd say give him a chance. Who is so adorable, by the way." She asked, picking up the plates and handing them to me after taking the menus, pushing me towards the doorway.
An hour after my shift was over, I actually got Mandy to agree to watch Aurora since Missy was hanging out with friends for the night. Pulling a red flannel on with some ripped jeans, I let my hair fall loose down my back. Slipping on some tenna shoes, I opened the front door, seeing him wearing a Jean jacket and some dark blue jeans holding up a bag of to go food from Diary Queen. "I brought you a Chili cheese dog and a peanut butter shake since they were always your favorite. Then I thought we could star gazing or rad my meemaw's house for fire crackers like we did the first night we kissed."
"Wait, we really messed with fire crackers?" I asked, taking the bag from his hands as he closed the door behind him, entering the kitchen searching through the cabinets.
He pulled down a small box showing me them as I had part of the Chilli dog in my mouth almost dropping it on the kitchen table. "You wanna try one out for old times sake. Since my meemaw's out bowling tonight?"
"I guess it couldn't hurt as long as we don't set her house on fire." I shrugged my shoulders sitting down my food following him out the backdoor.
"You know she actually said that to me the night we first did this." He pointed out making me chuckle nervously. "Thankfully that didn't happen. I would be upset if it caught my hair.
Stopping in my tracks he pulled the first one out tossing it across the yard almost not hearing me mumble under my breath. "I would've been too.." The firecracker hit the ground creating a loud boom where I almost covered my ears as a smile graces my face.
"Can I try one?" I whispered feeling sort of comfortable with the whole idea as if i had really done this before with him. Just the two of us outside alone like this.
He stepped up handing me one after lighting it for me. Closing my eyes for a second I then tossed it towards the fence hearing the boom when it hits against the fence. "That was awesome. I can't believe I forgot I did this - woah." I started jumping around in excitement but my left foot gets hooked on a rock where I almost tumbled to the dirt.
"I've got ya, darlin'." Georgie quickly wrapped his arms around my waist tugging me closer into his embrace before I could fall.
My hands clutched the fabric of his Jean jacket as my eyes drifted up to his and without thinking I mumbled leaning in and kissing him. "Georgie..." He leans into the kiss sitting me on my feet wrapping his arms around my waist deepening it.
"I love you, Y/n....you're the only girl I've ever loved...I want you to come back please." He mumbled in between kisses when one of my hands starts twisting his curls in between my fingers until I gasped pulling away from the kiss grabbing my head seeing memories flash before my eyes.
He kisses back wrapping his arms around my waist pulling me closer. "It's not that I don't want to - I'm just scared. But I won't be as long as I'm kissing the man I love."
"I got an A, y/n" I finally controlled my laughter to roll on my side to face him, grinning big. "I shouldn't say this but...I told you so."
He rolled his eyes pulling me up on his lap to kiss me playfully. "Come'ere, darlin'." I smiled poking him lightly. "Ok my smart texan"
Leaning forward pressing his lips onto mine. "I'll love you always, Georgie Cooper."
"I'll love you always too, Y/n." He breaks the kiss resting his forehead on mine.
Georgie gently grabs my forearms searching to figure out what was wrong. "Y/n, what's wrong. What hurts. I'll take you to the hospital let's go." He started to pick me up bridal style until I grabbed his face in my hands crashing his lips onto mine again.
"I love you..." I whispered wrapping my arms around his neck smiling as I felt happy tears fall down my face.
He squeezes my waist moving his hands down with a confused look on his face not understanding what I had said. "What did you say, Y/n?"
Leaning up on my toes I crashed my lips onto his more passionate this time so when I broke it we were both heavily breathing. "I remember, Georgie. I remember everything about you, about us. I love you and I'm sorry-"
He wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me in for a tight hug. Wrapping my arms around him I bury my face into his neck feeling him starting to cry too before the back door opened hearing his meemaw gasp in shock. "I thought I got rid of all those packs of firecrackers. What the hell are you two doing out here?" Breaking the hug I wasn't concerned if she was mad with us right now all that was important was that I was back with him.

Random Thought: Clover does not like kids (minus a select few like custard the |||) He finds them annoying, needy, and overall stupid at times.
So naturally he's asked to babysit some kids for the day, after all Clover is just a friendly bard!
Hmm. I can see that. And I can see one of his brothers "volunteering" him to help babysit the young Cookies in the Kingdom.
*The scene is set in the Vanilla District where Clover is about to head out to the forest.*
Clover: Time to start the day-
Muscle: *appears with Pancake and Cherry in his arms* Oh thank Godly you're still here, Clover!
Clover: Oh hey Muscle. How are-Why do you have your baby siblings in your arms?
Muscle: I have a quest to go and none of my other siblings or mom are not available. Can you please watch Cherry and Pancake?
Clover: You know that I tolerate a few young Cookies.
Cherry: Why's that?
Clover: You...of all Cookies...is asking me that?
Muscle: Clover! Please!
Clover: Why do you need to go-
Pancake: Because Lilac is going!
Muscle: *blushes* Pancake!
Clover: Ah...that makes sense. Fine...I can watch them-
Muscle: Thank you so much! *hands the two young Cookies to Clover.* Someone will pick them up tonight!
Clover: Wait what?! *Muscle is already gone.* Great. Just great.
Cherry: Can we have some snacks?
Clover: Do you promise not to blow up my home?
Cherry:...
Clover:...
Cherry: Fine! No bombs. *pouts*
Clover: Thank you. Now-
Wildberry: Clover.
Clover: Godly! Wildberry! Don't do that!!
Wildberry: Sorry. But I need a favor.
Clover: What do you- *notices Strawberry Crepe* Why are they here?
Wildberry: I have a quest to get to and Strawberry and Wild Strawberry are out. I just need someone to take care of Strawberry Crepe.
Strawberry Crepe: I can take care of myself!!
Wildberry: After what happened the last time...no. Clover. Can you please?
Clover: Well, one more child can't hurt. Add them to my pile I guess.
Wildberry: Thank you, Clover. *pushes Strawberry Crepe toward Clover* Behave.
Strawberry Crepe: Fiiiine. *pouts*
Wildberry: I'll be back tonight. *leaves*
Clover: I guess my forest time is gone. Come on everyone. It's time for snacks.
*two minutes later inside the house*
Clover: Okay. Here you guys go. Don't make a mess, please.
All three: Thank you! *start eating*
Clover: Now, this shouldn't-
Chili Pepper: *bursts in* Hey! Clover!
Clover: For Godly sakes. What?!
Chili Pepper: Heard you were babysitting some kids! Here! I have somewhere to be. *hands Bell Pepper Cookie to him* Bye! *disappears*
Clover: Chili Pepper-! And she's gone. Okay, *guides Bell Pepper to the snack table* sit here and have some snacks. I'll be planning some activities.
Bell Pepper: Okay. *starts eating*
*Custard III walks into the house*
Custard III: Huh? Oh! Are we having a tea party? Can I join?
Clover: Um...sure...why not...
*five minutes later, an outdoor table is full of crafts*
Clover: Okay...we're doing some arts and crafts so, please...no destruction.
All five: Okay! *start making some crafts.*
Clover: *steps back* Okay...this should keep them calm. And hopefully-
Blackberry: Mr. Clover.
Clover: Ah! Hey Blackberry. How can I help you?
Blackberry: I need your help.
Clover: *notices Onion* Let me guess...help take care of Onion?
Blackberry: Yes. Can you?
Clover: *grinds through teeth* ...sure...I don't mind...
Blackberry: Thank you. I'll be back by nightfall. *leaves*
*Just as he was about to guide Onion to the table, Werewolf appears with Moon Rabbit and Pumpkin Pie. Not soon after, Almond appears with Walnut, Chestnut, and Cream Puff.*
Clover: *on the verge of screaming* Need a babysitter?
*For five hours, Clover has been taking care of all eleven young Cookies, barely keeping his sanity. The whole time he's been wondering why was everyone giving their kids.*

Are you all ready for a nice, healthy edition of Taco Dragon this week?
Well too bad, because this involved two different deep fried components!
I give you:
KFC* Chalupas!
(KFC = Korean fried chicken)
@nikkydash
This is my first foray into a Korean-inspired dish for this, and I'm excited to share it!
For the chicken:
B/S chicken thighs (could theoretically use breasts, but thighs provide superior flavor and texture, plus it won't dry out)
¼ onion
Minced garlic
Ground ginger
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
MSG (don't look at me like that, it makes things taste good! Just don't buy Accent, it's a ripoff)
Saké (soju would be more appropriate, but I live in a state where spirits aren't sold in supermarkets, and I didn't feel like going to a liquor store)
Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
Cut the chicken into bite size pieces, grate the onion with a cheese grater, and toss everything together in a bowl. Set in the fridge to marinate overnight.
For the vegetable portion, I made this Asian-inspired coleslaw:
I swapped out canola oil for the olive oil because come on. Also, you can use parsley instead of cilantro if you lost the genetic lottery.
I did use a coleslaw mix because I can't deal with whole ass heads of cabbage living by myself. Well, I do have a roommate of sorts, but...
She probably won't eat any of it.
(No I didn't awkwardly interject that as an excuse to post a photo of my cat shut up)
Anyway, for the shells I used this recipe:
Heat a skillet filled with 1-2" of oil on medium heat and fry!
I'm actually quite pleased with how these turned out! They really are quite similar in texture to the chalupa shells at Taco Bell, except they taste like real food.
Now to fry the chicken!
Coat the pieces simply in cornstarch and allow to sit while the oil heats to 340°F. Fry once in batches and drain on a rack. Crank up the oil temp to 375°F and fry again. You can fry them in bigger batches the second time around since the chicken is cooked through.
This chicken is absolutely delicious and shatteringly crispy. From this point you could assemble the chalupas and use your choice of sauce, be it a taco sauce, sriracha, or other form of chili sauce. In this case, though, we're gonna elevate it further by tossing it in some of my own homemade Korean-inspired sweet chili sauce!
Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
(Let me know if y'all want a recipe for that sauce so I can make a follow-up post for it)
This right here is a combination of sweet, spicy, savory, and tangy that is lethally addictive and goes great with some sticky rice. Tonight, however, we're assembling chalupas!
Into the shells in the following order: chicken, cheese, and slaw.
As fate would have it, these frybread shells make for an excellent vehicle for Korean fried chicken! The slaw fits this flavor profile nicely, and the cheese actually provides a nice contrast with its creamy saltiness.
Considering I wasn't even originally planning on a Taco Dragon post this week, things went swimmingly! Don't expect another one for a while, though. It was never my intent to make this a weekly feature, I just happened to keep getting hit with inspiration!
Anyway, enjoy the rest of your weekend, everybody! And do let me know if I should post that sauce recipe!

Queen of Hearts (Ch.15)
Drake x MC (Emma Barnes)
TRR AU: What would happen if Emma loved Drake but had to marry Liam?
Catch up here
Warnings: NSFW
Note: I almost didn’t post this after @ooo-barff-ooo ‘s amazing chapter of Girl Crush, but I knew I wouldn’t have time tomorrow. Enjoy! Let me know if you’d like to be added to or removed from the tag list!
Word Count: 2872
Summary: The court has arrived at Kiara’s duchy, but things for the art festival don’t go as planned. Kiara throws herself at Drake causing some tension between Drake and Emma before their R-rated movie date. Doubts start to creep into Drake’s head just before they find Liam waiting for them.
Chapter 15: A Thousand Years - Christina Perri
The day we met, Frozen I held my breath Right from the start I knew that I'd found a home for my heart Beats fast Colors and promises How to be brave? How can I love when I'm afraid to fall But watching you stand alone? All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you For a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more
Time stands still Beauty in all she is I will be brave I will not let anything take away What's standing in front of me Every breath Every hour has come to this
Emma was up early the next morning, she wandered down to find Hakim and Francesco in a panic. The gallery had flooded in the night, it was supposed to open this morning. Emma texted her friends 911 and they all came down to the sitting room.
“What happened?” Liam was the first to arrive. Francesco explained again, he was sure that it was sabotage. It was the same attackers from the homecoming ball, they were sure of it. Hakin and Francesco began planning to cancel the festival, they wouldn't be able to clear out the water in time, that would devastate all the work they had just done in Applewood to rally the people.
“No. What if we didn't have to cancel. No art was damaged, spin it as an art installation! It can be to raise awareness about the flooding in Portavira. Show that we're united and support the other duchies.”
“It would strengthen morale among the people!” Liam chimed in. Hakim stopped and considered their words.
“How would we pull it off?”
“I'll put it all over social media! An exclusive exhibit available today and here only!” Emma nodded at Maxwell, he began firing away on his phone.
“I'll direct clean up. I'm probably the only person here who knows how to use a bucket and mop.” Drake said.
“We get the worst of the water out and it won't look too messy.”
“If we pass out color coordinated rain boots at the door, we can add to the experience!” Hana had taken color theory lessons and so she was the perfect person for the job.
“This is a great plan but why are you doing this for us?” Emma smiled.
“It's the right thing to do. You're a citizen of Cordonia, we do everything we can do our citizens.”
“Let's get started then!” Hakim hired a cleanup crew, and everyone got to work. A few hours later, Madeleine had Emma meet her at a local boutique. Madeleine was on Emma's case about recruiting Hakim and Joelle even though she was sure they would come since she had just saved their gallery. Madeleine just rolled her eyes and held up an off the shoulder dress with different shades of purple, pink, blue and white that all complemented each other. The dress looked like an abstract canvas. She wore a small, rhinestone necklace to complement the dress, Drake's ring tucked safely away. By the time Emma arrived at the gallery, guests had already begun arriving and Hana had given them a pair of rainboots that matched their outfits better than expected. She joined her friends in the center of the gallery and Drake ran his eyes up and down her body hungrily.
“I… uh...wow.” Drake mumbled unable to form a coherent sentence.
“So, you like the dress?” He nodded.
“It's lovely Emma. Are you ready to address the crowd?” Liam and Emma addressed the crowd and told them that the water installation was an anonymous artist. They wandered through the exhibit themselves, stopping to discuss various paintings. They stopped at an abstract piece and everyone struggled to make sense of it, Drake and Emma, having had no training on the subject. As the others wandered through the gallery, Emma stopped next to Drake and followed his gaze to an “EXIT” sign with glowing green letters.
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to figure out the idea of modern art. Take this for example, it's just a sign that says exit, but what does it mean? Is it saying we all exit life eventually? Is it meant to be a warning?”
“Are you saying you want to get as far away from possible as me?” Emma teased, and Drake playfully rolled his eyes.
“As deep and profound as that was Drake, I think this is just an exit sign.” He frowned, and then sighed as a patron walked out the door just beneath it.
“Whatever.”
“Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.”
“Tell anyone what?” Maxwell appeared behind them silently making them both jump.
“Uuuh how great that painting is!” Emma pointed randomly at a painting. Maxwell smiled and delved into a story known as the Great Ketchup Incident of ‘96. Bertrand approached seemingly out of nowhere, the first time they had seen him in days, handling Beaumont house affairs. He was there only briefly, mentioned that Maxwell was helping with the affairs and then he was gone. Emma and Maxwell were concerned, on top of all his stress, he was trying to mend his relationship with Savannah and Bartie. Emma approached Joelle next, admiring the piece she had completed yesterday when they first met. They had a discussion about what her art meant and how it translated to what she and Hakim wanted for Cordonia. After they all regrouped, they left the art exhibit for the food, needless to say, Drake and Maxwell were quite excited.
All kinds of various smells wafted through the air, spicy, sweet, even sour, it was glorious. Instead of trying everything like Maxwell suggested, they wandered around to try everyone's favorites. Hana got everyone some ash-e reshteh, a Persian dish. It was a savory soup with beans and parsley, the flavors blending together well. Even Drake was impressed. Liam led everyone over to a colorful booth that smelled of various spices, getting everyone some chicken tagine. As everyone ate, Liam and Drake shared the story of how thanks to Leo, it became one of Liam's favorite dishes, sibling rivalry at its finest which escalated into a full blown prank war. Drake was eager to pick the next dish, feijoda. It was similar to chili, a mixture of beans and meat garnished with an orange slice. It was rich and salty with the pork and beef, very clearly a Drake dish. Instead of picking a food, Maxwell ran off, following the sounds of a live band. He wanted everyone to dance. Emma longed to dance with Drake, but with too many prying eyes she danced with Liam and watched as Kiara approached Drake and asked him to dance. Emma tensed up and watched as she wrapped her arms around his neck and swayed in time to the music, slowly getting closer to him. When the music stopped, Drake unhooked Kiara from him and walked over to his friends. Emma could feel her blood boiling, but she forced herself to smile and walk over to Olivia and Penelope on the edge of the crowd, Kiara rejoining them. They left to go get some cotton candy and the rest of the group began to leave until Drake pulled Emma back.
“I'm sorry.” He whispered. Emma nodded, she knew he couldn't have turned Kiara down without looking incredibly rude.
“Come here, there's one more thing I want to show you.” He led Emma to a freezer stand with an Italian flag. Gelato, it was Emma's favorite dessert, she had studied abroad in Florence for a semester in college and she became very familiar with the ice cream like treat. Drake ordered a chocolate gelato while Emma settled for a fruity raspberry. It was the perfect mixture of creamy and sweet, melting on their tongues.
“How is it?” Emma giggled as she got a brain freeze.
“The only thing that would make this better would be if I could kiss you right now.” Drake grinned mischievously and looked at Emma.
“I wish we weren't in public right now, the things I want to do to you.” He leaned in to whisper. Emma felt herself blushing as he stepped back. She seductively took a bite of ice cream, exaggerating how good it tasted, moaning.
“Keep it going until tonight Mr. Walker.” She winked just before they left the festival to catch up with their friends. On their way out, they ran into Hakim and Joelle. They were so impressed by Emma's willingness to step up that in return they agreed to attend her wedding. As they return to the estate, she couldn't stop thinking about how in love Hakim and Joelle still were after so many years together.
“What are you thinking about?” Emma looked at Drake unsure of how long he had been staring at her.
“Nothing.”
“Barnes I've been trying to get your attention for the last five minutes, you've got that look on your face, the one you get when you're lost in your own head.”
“I was thinking about Hakim and Joelle. Look how in love they still are with each other. Do you think you'll still love me that much, years from now?” Drake chuckled and carefully checked their surroundings before pulling Emma close to him.
“Barnes, I love you more and more every day. I think we're going to love each other even more than they do when we're their age.” Emma pulled Drake in for a tender kiss as he pulled her body flush against his dipping her down. When they stood up and he released her, she was light headed, her heart swelled.
“The real question is will you still love me that much.” She cupped his cheek and smiled.
“You're the only one for me Drake Walker.” Once back at the estate, Emma left to go find Liam to discuss what food from the festival they would serve at the wedding and Drake mentioned something about looking up movie times. She found Drake in the sitting room, lounging on a couch, he looked exhausted.
“Drake?” He didn't seem to hear her.
“Knock knock, anyone home?” She waved her hand in front of Drake's face and he blinked his eyes back into focus.
“Oh, hey Barnes. Sorry.”
“Everything okay?” he sighed.
“All this courtly stuff is suffocating. I thought it would be nice to get out, see a movie tonight, like normal people. Try to stay sane.”
“I feel like there's a ‘but’ coming.” Drake dragged his hand over his face and Emma knew it wasn't good.
“But Kiara cornered me, again.” Emma rolled her eyes, she was ready to kick Kiara out of court, tell her to stay home.
“What happened Drake?” Emma's tone was flat, and Drake flinched at the thought of having to tell her.
“I mentioned I was going to the movies and she invited herself.” Emma groaned before suddenly jumping off the couch.
“You did WHAT?!” Emma was furious, she wanted some alone time with Drake and Kiara kept getting in the way.
“She invited herself Barnes. It's not like I could say, actually I'm taking my best friend's fiancé out on a date.”
“Call a cab, I'll meet you outside in five minutes. We're leaving right now before she can crash.” Emma didn't give him a chance to answer, she dashed off to her room to change into a little black dress, casual enough for the movies.Even if he did have time to answer, he wasn’t going to protest, he thought Emma might kill him. Once they arrived, they settled on a spy thriller full of romance, it was that or a horror movie which wasn't exactly romantic when you couldn't cuddle in public. Drake bought the tickets and a large bucket of buttery popcorn.
“This is nice Barnes.” He scooped up some popcorn, ready to eat it but Emma snatched it out if his hands with her mouth playfully. Drake pretended to pout as he watched her eat his popcorn, but the corner of his lips twitched up into a grin.
“That's how you want to play it Barnes?” She giggled and scooped up some popcorn of her own, throwing it at Drake who tried to catch it, before she finished it. They laughed walking into the theatre together, unaware they had been spotted. Emma dragged him to the very back corner of the theatre and Drake frowned.
“What are we doing back here Barnes?”
“Getting the full movie experience. You'll see.” More people shuffled into the theatre, spread out across the seats. Finally, the lights dimmed, and the movie began playing. Drake was into the movie, but Emma had other things in mind. She hadn't been able to stop thinking about Drake kissing her on the way back from the festival, her imagination running wild. She placed her hand on Drake's thigh and slowly moved her hand up until she reached Drake's crotch. He gasped as she grabbed him, looking over at her surprised, she met him with a heated kiss. Drake fell into it and tangled his hands in her hair as Emma continued to rub over his jeans, feeling him grow hard. He moaned against her lips as she quietly undid his jeans and freed his hard length.
“Barnes what are you doing?” He hissed as her lips surrounded him. She began sucking, running her tongue up and down his shaft, teasing the tip with her tongue. Drake moaned a little too loudly and someone glanced back, Drake pretended to be watching the movie while Emma remained hidden behind the seats in front of her.
“You have to be quiet Drake.” She whispered before going back down on him, bobbing her head until he came, gripping the arm rests as he tried to stay quiet. Emma smiled, licking her lips as Drake tried to compose himself, tucking his dick back into his pants.
“What was that for?” Emma smiled mischievously and leaned in to whisper in his ear again.
“The full movie experience. What do you think the back row is for?” Drake shook his head grinning.
“We're not done Drake.” He turned to look at her surprised.
“What do you mean?”
“I want to feel your fingers inside of me Drake.”
“Barnes.” Drake wanted nothing more than to please Emma but he had never done something like that in a room full of people before.
“Drake, if you want to sneak into my room tonight and make it out of this duchy alive, you'll do as I ask.” Her tone was threatening and his stare even.
"I took you on a real date, we almost got caught a couple seconds ago. Do we really need to do this Barnes?" He didn't need lots of light to see the look on her face. He wasn't going to make it out of the theatre alive if he protested, besides everyday he looked forward to sneaking into her room. He wasn't ready to give that up, and he had to admit that almost getting caught was kind of hot, the thrill of it. Emma surprised him again when she leaned back against the wall and put her legs up, grabbing Drake's hand and rubbing it between her legs. He stifled a gasp when he realized she wasn't wearing any underwear. Drake started slow, rubbing circles on her clit and then dragging his fingers between her lips to see if she was wet. Drake teased her entrance as she pushed her hips towards him, but he pulled away and began rubbing her clit again. He was going to have some fun with it, payback for almost getting them busted. Again, he teased her entrance which was dripping wet at this point.
“Drake.” She begged. He loved hearing her say his name. Finally, he slipped one finger inside her, she whispered, it wasn't enough, so he slipped another and began pumping, hitting her g-spot perfectly. He felt her hips buck forward and he knew she was close, so he pulled out and waited for a few seconds before teasing her clit, bringing her right to the edge again. She was breathing hard, trying not to be heard by anyone else. She met Drake's eyes with a pleading gaze. He slipped his fingers inside her and pumped until he felt her cum on him, her muscles spasming around his fingers. She watched, satisfied and worn out as he grabbed some popcorn and ate it before sucking her cum off his fingers. Emma pulled her skirt down and was scooting over to kiss Drake when the lights came on. She jumped back and looked around as everyone began leaving. The people in front of them, turned around to see who had been sitting behind them, to see if they could figure out why it sounded like Drake was moaning but they didn't look disheveled, so the people left.
“So how was your real movie experience?” Emma asked as they walked out, dumping the popcorn bucket on the way.
“I'd definitely do that again. What got into you though?”
“Kiara’s been all over you since we got here. I needed to know that you were still mine and I was still yours.” Drake felt a pang of guilt, he wanted nothing more than to push Kiara away, and kiss Emma in front of everyone like no one was watching, but he knew that could never happen. Dark thoughts about how this was going to work long term began to slip into his mind, of course he wanted it to work, he loved Emma, he would never love anyone again that much, but there would always be another Kiara.
“I told you earlier Em, you've got nothing to worry about.” They held hands in the taxi back to the estate, running into Liam on their way to her room. He didn't look pleased.
