window panes are crooked and dissappear around the tree, tree begins in one window pane and teleports to another, a branch connecting the two becomes a window closure in the wrong place, the outside looks like it's actually lit by the reflection of the weirdly low-res glass, the light seems to come from the curtain, the reflection of the curtain in the glass changes in opacity dramatically from pane to pane, curtains in front of the bookshelf just seem like bad design, a book covered looks crinkled in a way that does not seem plausible, it looks like a cassette tape is floating on top of the books with perspective that is different from anything else, it's unclear where the door opening is, the part of the rug pattern that is in the shadow doesn't match up, there's a floating branch indoors, and there's something (a leaf, a pen?) coming out of the side of the jar, which also looks like it was taken from a painting instead of a photo

the chair has two right feet and looks like someone tried to transmogrify a shitty modern couch or bed frame into something vintage-seeming, the arm rests don't match up and the right (our left) looks like it has vestigial buttons and a stump where the middle panel would be, the point where the two parts connect looks like a pull out couch that is meant to not work, there's this puffy thing in the middle of the way that is attached to the arm rest for some reason

and I just think, who is this good for exactly? someone looking for drawing reference could benefit from something that takes the laws of physics into account, if someone is trying to commission furniture they'd have to answer a whole lot of clarifying questions, and anyone looking for pretty pictures or a specific vibe could do with image searches, a pinterest account, or a tumblr blog with real pictures in it

this kind of slop only exists in the hopes that no one care to look at it too closely, and just give money to AI companies instead of the people who make the work that they extrapolate from. I would like to see the work of whatever actual photographers that ended up in this data set that made this look passable at a glance, because I'm sure it's a lot more worth seeing

PSA for anyone tryna go private for trans related surgery (in the UK but probably in plenty of other places too):

anything that can be done with a non-trans-specific service (ie face surgery, boob jobs, certain revisions even), make sure to at least ask the non-trans-specific services, bc a) it'll likely give you more options (like when I had my face surgery and literally only one fucking guy in the country knew how to do the thing and had never done it on a trans patient before), b) there might be less red tape when it's legally classed as a plastic surgery than the gender affirming/reconstructive one it actually is, and c) I just found a place that literally charges almost double what they charge for cis guy top surgery (to get rid of gynecomastia) for the trans version smh

re: last reblog i really do think it’s a testament to the idea that. humans do genuinely WANT to work like we all fucking LOVE among us we like to do little tasks and feel like we are Helping. and we know intuitively that we have to Help in order for things to Work, but luckily we all have Things that are Pleasant for us to do (or, at the very least, that we are Good At) that we can and want to do to Help. the problem is NO ONE wants to work if that’s the only way we can keep living, to pay for housing, for food, to get healthcare. and people are instead going to do whatever thing they can kind of whatever at in order to pay bills most effectively... meaning people aren’t actually doing the Helping in the way they are best suited to... and that makes me sad. just as a guy who is good at Very Few Things and has a very limited set of jobs he can actually do, but, through a rare instance of extreme privilege (amidst the Everything Else i have not going for me), have the opportunity to take one of the Very Few Things i have and run with it. and hopefully i will do a very very good job!!! but so many people want that job and other jobs because they pay well, not because they genuinely think that is the best way for them to Help. and it’s just frustrating because that’s how you get a lot of people who are Really Fucking Bad At Their Job, which is a huge problem in things like healthcare, or a lot of people who are Really Good At Their Job, But Their Job Happens To Be Being The Worst Fucking Human Alive (wall street, marketing research, corporate lawyers, any job that involves the production and protection of capital). and i’m like Man. what happened to the kid who asked their classmates if they were okay when they fell off the playground. the kid who shared goldfish if they saw another kid didn’t have a snack that day. humans hate seeing other people suffer, yet we are so willing to perpetuate it if that means we can save our own hinds. and then we get confused when the people who are suffering say “fuck this!!! i don’t wanna anymore.”

I've seen a couple people saying they're jumping ship for [other big socmed] after the AI announcement here, but like. Guys. Friends. You do realize all the other sites have been silently working with big AI companies for a while now. Yes, even Bluesky and Cohost and all the smaller ones. They're just not broadcasting it or giving you an option to help remove your work from automatic scraping.

I greatly prefer the transparency and the tiny bit of protection, no matter how flimsy. Tumblr is pretty awful, but it's still better than everything else so far. Which sucks but until we burn down the plutocracy, this isn't gonna be escapable.

(Also, no Tumblr did not quietly sneak this in. They literally announced it before implementing.)

Speaking of fanfiction.net, did you know that while it was seven years ago and therefore obviously well out of date (though given the declining traffic over the past few years, that's not the biggest issue), some insane person (positive) on archive.org managed to do the unthinkable and archive a full snapshot of the site despite its infamous unarchivability; I didn't until I went looking for if anyone had good tips on downloading from there easily and found a reddit thread from 2016. It's here. So while I continue to fret about how goddamn difficult archiving the website in full will ever be when it inevitably collapses on us randomly, at the very least we have a snapshot of it as of 2016, in fact.

when i came out as trans in 2014 it felt like things were coming around. sure there was still a lot of transphobia and cruelty and pain involved in the process but it seemed like maybe there were things to be optimistic about. it truly felt like we were maybe gonna be okay. and some people saw the trannies being happy and loved and unafraid to be seen or heard and they felt threatened. and now for several years its been a slow miserable process of the powers that be trying to push us back into the margins, return us to isolation and loneliness, expose to hatred and violence.

Hello, Tumblr. 

If you joined us before November 2022 and predominantly post on web, you will be familiar with the two post editors—the legacy editor and the “new” web editor (formerly known as the “Beta editor”).

Beginning May 15, we’ll gradually be working to remove the legacy editor as an option for creating new posts. New posts created on web will be created in the new web editor. We hope to complete this change by July 15. 

This change only affects accounts created before November 2022. Newer accounts already default to the new web editor.

This will not affect posting on the apps because we switched to this new editor on the apps about four years ago. If you use the apps, you’ve been using the new editor all this time!

This will not affect what you can include in a post, only how you get there: You can still include all the different types of media in a post, only now, you’ll do that via the new web editor’s content blocks instead of selecting a post type from the post type bar at the top of your dash. So, if you’re halfway through a text post, and you decide that what this post really needs is your pet reptile, then click on the little red image icon in the post editor, select an image, and voilà. Lizard boy steals our hearts.

If you still prefer to post on web using the legacy editor, please keep reading because the rest of this post is for you.

How can you prepare for this change?

Once we have completed this update, you won’t be able to create posts using the legacy editor. You will be able to edit posts made using the legacy editor, at least for now. 

Start using the new web editor ahead of the switch. This will help you help us troubleshoot any issues you might encounter. It’ll also mean you’ll already know the ropes before the switch is final. 

Talk to us. Send us feedback. Especially if you’re switching from legacy to the new web editor. We want to hear about your experience: Are there any specific workflows or features in legacy that you want to see in the new editor?      

If you use a theme, make sure to check whether it supports posts made using the new web editor, and update it if that’s not the case.
