some quick thoughts on the first Marvel What If...? episode that are almost all Bucky related big surprise:

i froth at the mouth at any small moment of pre-ws!Bucky like a stranded survivor of a shipwreck. yes pls all of it, i need more. my desire to know who traumatized characters were pre-trauma is like an un-quenchable thirst.

that being said, i'm loving the idea the Bucky was just...a big fucking himbo. a nerdy silly himbo. there's nothing more satisfying than a super pretty competent person wowing you with some big time dork energy.

his lines were so groan worthy which is why i loved them. looking back it's a pretty obvious choice to make Bucky Barnes pre-Winter Soldier just Bucky Barnes from the comic books. he tells bad jokes, he's a damsel in distress, he's there for a reaction shot or two, and best of all he's got the worst one-liners.

my kingdom for Bucky of today going back to his bad one liners, honestly i would pay marvel to have Bucky throw a knife in someone's face, blood is everywhere, and he just goes, "knife to meet you." (Sam is floored. he goes through the 5 stages of grief in ten seconds and ends up laughing so hard his lungs hurt. redwing has it recorded and sam revisits it when he needs to)

the part where Steve gets back into the Hydra Smasher and falls on his face is peak stevebucky tho. Bucky is unconcerned, makes light of it, and there's even some light teasing. i have to highlight this for the purpose of Bucky's characterization in fanfic in terms of how he treats Steve, especially pre-serum Steve: he doesn't baby him. he doesn't mother-hen or overprotect Steve. he knows Steve is tough, he's spent years picking him up off of alleyway pavements, he's not going to act like a helicopter mom.

which i really appreciate because i'm tired of the treatment of Bucky as not also being a reckless kid in this war. Steve and Bucky don't have the dynamic of the Reasonable Adult and their Troublesome Kid i've seen sometimes in fic. they're both hooligans. Bucky comes off as the more cautious one sure, but it's just slightly. and that very slight difference gets overblown sometimes which feels disingenuous to a character that's in his 20s (like do you know bros in their 20s,,,do you?? they're still trying to run up walls and do backflips. they still think they're invincible. 20 year old men are the stupidest people on the planet. and i can say that as a man almost 30) and, by all accounts, ran mayhem in Brooklyn right next to his best friend.

(I spelled his first name differently on purpose, it’s to differentiate from another Sergei, a certain Red Wings gremlin.)

OVERALL THOUGHTS - This roster first got me into Soviet hockey for real, and I do have to give credit to the Miracle for introducing me to it and inaverdently luring me down the rabbit hole. They were Such A Lovely Roster and deserved So Much More than what they got, some of these men missed their chance at their own Olympic gold because of it and?? that’s v sad in general??? To this day this roster is still my favorite of all time, since most of my fav players were on it. Mare reminds me of Raya, except Raya is a raging lesbian. And Evangeline as princess Namaari because of their whole “cut heads first, ask questions later” But this leaves me with the sexual tension between them and uh... interpret that as you may.

The last version I can think of with him, is the tall, lanky and kinda hard to read Kyle. He keeps a lot of his feelings to himself, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have them. He plays basketball, he’s good at it too, and while he does well in school and everyone expects him to go into law, he has some totally different dream he keeps to himself for now. He kinda perks up a bit when in smaller crowds, esp with his cloest friends, but he still carries a lot of secrets that some time needs to come out.

I actually quite enjoy the jagged, tired Tweek, the one who with help from friends and family manage to get off the meth his parents feed him secretly, but who still struggle with withdrawal, dark bags under his eyes, kinda pale and with sharp features, but he’s still a sweet and kind boy, a boy who wants to make the right choices and change the world to a better place, but who still has a darkness he carries, and the fact that he never gives up that fight is what makes him so special

and okay I have to be honest, I do love myself some sunshine boy Tweek. This Tweek still has issues, he is maybe even more anxious than the last one, but he’s also just as vibrant and energetic as he is anxious! He is an artist, he paints with bright colors, he composes beautiful, hopeful melodies, he feels everything so much,  and he is a contagious and exciting person to be around. Cannot dress for the life of him. So much mis-match and odd outfits, but it kinda works?

The last one I’m gonna mention for this wonderful boy, is the more alternative Tweek. He writes obscure poetry, he watches too many conspiracy theory videos on youtube, he draws the monsters in his mind, and he writes the scariest, most hauntingly beautiful stories on the internet, and people online love him. He has no idea how to deal with being popular in that sense, because irl he is the type to not belong to a certain friend group, but he does go along well with most people on a surface level. Dark circles, shaky hands, crooked and cute smiles, baggy t-shirts and ripped jeans. When he first opens up to someone, he really, really does, and he will always support and be there for you. If you deserve it, that is.

I love nerdy Nichole who isn’t afraid to show it! Maybe she’s a streamer or youtube gamer even, I can def see her writing fanfiction, and being hella good at it too! Makes quite a name for herself online, and hangs out with the boys a lot irl, has game nights with the boys from Board Girls (even Cartman sometimes), is funny in a sarcastic way, but never mean.

Popular girl Nichole is also a favorite for me, but not in the “classical” sense. I love edgy Butters soooo much??? Like, he’s still a kind and bright boy, but he can also stand up for himself a lot more, he likes fashion a lot, he gets tattoos and piercings, he explores tons of ways to express himself, he’s a yes-dude, he goes out on dates a lot, but isn’t ready for a “real” relationship yet, but he enjoys meeting people and testing out himself around different types of people! I have a weak spot for the kind of soft and timid looking Butters too, who wears pastel colors and have big, innocent eyes, he is genuine and kind, but he carries something darker inside, something he isn’t sure how to deal with, something that scares him, but in reality it’s just normal feelings, anger, resentment and fear, but he’s lived his life ignoring them so much they catch him off guard at times. He learns to live with them slowly, and he does so with lots of help and patience from friends and loved ones.

Okay, last one, totally self-indulging here, but yeah, happy sunflower boy is also a big favorite. He is more confident than the previous version, but in a gullible way if that makes any sense? He believes the best in people, and if he is proven wrong, he’s willing to try to help them become better people, if they want to or not! This is honestly the version I love most with Stan, Butters being the ray of sunshine in Stan’s life and Stan being the realism to keep Butters grounded and them both supporting each other so much? Fuck yeah that’s the good stuff.

First up I guess I should put my high school AU Kenny. I know it’s controversial, but I imagine this Kenny to be more on the quiet side, but not really in a shy way. He’s just a bit of an observer who doesn’t speak unless he really sees fit, and while he still has his crude humor and is kinda rumored to be sleeping around a lot, he actually struggle with intimacy issues. Mysterious Kennyyyy. You think you know him, everyone does, but in reality, very few have seen the real him. -samuel is dippers best friend, I wanted to incorporate him more but the boat was getting crowded and hes the least connected to the entire family as a whole so hes less relevant sadly :( he and dipper met in Jew Club™ and then ended up being roommates their first year and it just spiraled from there, if this were a real thing id make it so he facetimes the twins a lot and maybe even gets to visit bc I really love him and think he works well with them all

parker parker’s type is basically simp but not like in aesthetics if that makes sense. like for her it’s very important that whoever she’s with knows that she can kick their ass and love her for it, but that they’re not just like that in general. like specifically someone who is strong and independent and can kick ass on their own, but still sorta yields to parker y’know. her ideal relationship is definitely someone she can by symbiotic with in combat that kind of unsaid understanding where when they fight, the two sorta flow together y’know

peyton peyton i think is the only one of the half cupids who doesn’t really look for the grand gestures and endless devotion and the this and the that. i don’t think she really enjoys being the center of attention, and getting a dozen roses on her doorstep would honestly probably just embarrass her (bc you know pj and parker would never let it go). i think she really looks for someone like her, who’s maybe a bit more quite & studious, and her ideal date would really just be sitting together and watching a movie and not feeling the need to talk but just really enjoying the comfort of each other’s presence. a simple yet sturdy love.

dency dency is already the type of gal to be the step on me / hit me with a bus like she really has the strong, quasi impervious, looks a little like she can kill you energy. that being said i think she’s still a total softie. she has like a slight fear of love and intimacy bc of her whole parentage and the undeniably abusive relationship they had but at the same time she was raised by a cupid so even though she’s definitely like scared of love she’s seen the wonders and joys true love can bring and blah blah blah, it’s just she has a really big fear that she’ll fall for something that she think’s is true love but is really just an elaborate con. because of that she comes off as really closed off and aloof, but just a little info for her soulmate out there she’s an absolute sucker for forehead kisses. just soft, cutesy, almost cheesy love; that’s her ideal. she’s just too guarded to ever really let herself go for that.

Opinion on Stan?

What I love about them: I mean seriously he’s got character development as about as deep as a puddle of water, but that doesn’t stop Stan from being so entertaining and enjoyable to me. Diedrich Bader was just so good, I loved every delivery of his line. Also knowing Diedrich also voices Batman in DC media kills me every time because now I look at Stan and go “Batman? In Corona? Batman is Rapunzel’s bodyguard?!”

Also not to be aggressively mlm on main but Stan being designed with a big chest, giant arms, rugby thighs and a square jaw... that was Chris saying gay rights. 10/10 himbo supreme.

What I hate about them: He never grows more than just being a background character for seasons set in Corona and it makes me so sad! He is very connected to like all three main characters to several degrees (Rapunzel’s bodyguard, Eugene’s friend and then Eugene is his superior when he becomes Captain, he knows Cassandra since she was young) and it’s never elaborated on. Also related to my previous post about the guards in general, he’s terrible at his job but then marginally a bit better because. He deserves some credit.

Favorite Moment/Quote: Every time he’s on screen 😍 we stan a 6′6 king in this house. But to be real, I’d have to pick this scene in “Great Expotations”

He didn’t have to inform Cassandra about the shortage of guards but he did anyway because Stan knew how much the position mean to her and just, knowing Cass wasn’t totally alone in pursuing this goal in season 1... he’s such a good boy 🥺 🥺 🥺

What I would like to see more focus on: I just would like more expansion of his character. He’s been called Captain’s best man, which implies Stan is really good at his job, and he is arguably the most competent person on the guard after Captain and Maximus, at least compared to the rest. I also like to know of his relationships with his wife, and his interactions with Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cass!   

What I would like to see less focus on: Being portrayed as overly incompetent, stupid, and evil, which latter crops up when people want to give angst fics for their favorite characters.   

Favorite pairing with: his unseen wife, Pete because of reasons, Eugene (They are friends with benefits you can’t change my mind), Captain because of reasons too

Favorite friendship: Pete because they are hilarious together. Eugene and him have this chaotic bisexual energy and I think that’s very sexy of them. Cassandra and him are sword buddies. Rapunzel and him are painting buddies.

NOTP: I don’t see anyone who actively ships him outside of his wife or Pete, but if it’s gross then keep it away from me.  

Favorite headcanon(s): 1) He’s Latinx 2) Without his helmet on Stan has short black hair that makes him look exactly like Bruce Wayne, specifically the Batman: Brave & the Bold incarnation 3) Rapunzel low-key is attracted to him + had a brief crush on him because well. Here’s this big handsome man who fetches everything you need and carries you on the occasion and is always nice to you so. Who wouldn’t be attracted to that? Eugene wasn’t jealous because he was like “same hat 😔”

Can you talk more about your OCs?

omg yes i can!!! this might be a long post but! i’m so excited!

ok so i have five ocs right now. trip, who lives on a farm in napa because fuck you rick berman, has four kids in my mind: lucas “tipper” (archer nicknamed him “tipper” because he was clumsy and fell over all the time and the nickname just stuck so no one calls him lucas unless he’s in trouble), caroline and matthew (who are twins), and ellie, who’s like 10 years younger than tip! the 5th oc is captain alejandro cortés, captain of the uss tohoshinki (which is the ship tipper is assigned to), and an old friend of trip’s. i’ll only really be talking about tipper, caroline, matthew, and alejandro, though, since they’re the ones i have visuals for! ellie is 12, and i haven’t spent much time on her character, but she’s highkey trip’s favorite since she’s the baby.

okay. first we’ll talk about tipper! tipper is my favorite... in my mind he’s like 22 and just graduated from the academy. he’s like... chaotic good. pretty flirty. bookwise very smart, but an idiot in other ways. like a himbo, sorta. he’s the oldest sibling, so he’s pretty protective of his younger siblings, especially ellie (who’s 12 in this, a cute fact is that tipper calls her jellybean/elliebean). tipper’s in the command sector, and he wants to be a diplomat or a captain one day. he really genuinely tried engineering because he wanted to follow in trip’s footsteps, but it never stuck. for now, he’s an ensign (and alejandro’s favorite) on the uss tohoshinki. here’s a visual i made of him on picrew!

next is caroline! she’s 20 years old and enrolled in the academy for engineering (and she’s actually good at it, unlike tipper). she’s matthew’s twin sister, and she’s like 10 minutes older than him and he’ll always be bitter about it. she really, really looks up to her dad. she gets pretty riled up easily, and she’s usually pretty defensive, but it stems from being teased by her brothers so it’s understandable. she’s very funny and a hard worker, but she’s also really stubborn and arguing with her is like arguing with a brick wall. she’s very affectionate with the people she loves. she really enjoys playing the guitar, and you can usually find her somewhere outside, whether it be in trip’s workshop or sitting in a tree, just vibing. alejandro is looking at bringing her onboard the uss tohoshinki when she graduates (despite tipper’s protests, like siblings do). here’s her visual! also fun fact, the twins have matching beauty marks under their left eyes!

next is matthew! he’s also 20, and he’s the only one besides ellie who’s not enrolled at starfleet academy. he’s not starfleet material, he has no interest in it, but he’ll gladly support his siblings. he likes the ground too much. he’s a musician with a poet’s soul. he’s enrolled at berklee to study composing, and he’s a very talented pianist. he and caroline are close, but they’re also complete opposites. matthew is very laid-back, very relaxed, really just wants to vibe. he’s pretty sweet and a little shy, but talkative once you get him out of his shell. tipper calls him all the time when he’s lonely in space because matthew is a very good listener. he’s also a big fan of naps. here’s his visual! (his hair is supposed to be the same color as caroline’s but unfortunately the picrew i used didn’t have it... maybe he dyes his hair)

finally, we have captain alejandro cortés, who i usually just refer to as cortés. he’s the captain of the uss tohoshinki, which is the ship tipper is assigned to. cortés is an old friend of trip’s from serving as an ensign on the nx-01 enterprise -- he’s also in command, but he had a lot of friends in engineering so he hung out down there a lot, and became friends with trip! he actually used to babysit the kids, and he’s who inspired tipper to join starfleet. he heard tipper graduated and insisted on having him on his ship. he’s puerto rican, roughly in his mid-40s, and he’s what the kids call a dilf. he’s funny, smart, and super badass. he’s a pretty casual captain, but he’s not opposed to cracking down when he needs to. he has a scar on his right cheek from fighting a klingon (and winning!), and he’s one of tipper’s biggest heroes (his other heroes are archer and trip, of course). here are his visuals! the drawing was done by lovely rowan @worfsleftbuttcheek (who is absolutely a cortés stan).
