why don’t you like grizel?
super subjective reasons
she is such a hyper girlboss. like to an extent that goes even farther beyond shannon's typical. she's a classic case of shannon's tendency to write girlbosses instead of good female characters. (yes i know della is like this too but it's hard to find a female character that isn't like this in kotlc and i have made up lore for della so. lmfao.) also she insults an entire gender and god i despise men vs. women writing it makes me cringe out of my soul because it's either misogynistic or it's used to try to create a cool girlboss character (of which grizel happens to be the second) and it never works. i stand by the idea that true feminist narratives don't need to rub their feminism in your face with men vs. women writing but i digress. also this happens in legacy. like okay i thought the sexism was gone with the first few books but i guess it's still here okay i see how it is
her introduction to the series very much reads like shannon realized sandor had been around for like three books (technically two) and we still knew little to nothing about him besides the fact that he's a tough goblin warrior. so she gave him a love interest to try to "humanize" him, so to speak. grizel exists entirely to be sandor's girlfriend. it annoys me greatly. she is not a character by herself. seriously. name a characteristic or piece of lore of hers that isn't encapsulated by "she flirts with sandor and also makes the occasional snarky comeback". and shannon could, you know. we know that she was offered a position in the queen's guard but turned it down for a lost cities job because sandor was there. do you see what i mean. this could be an interesting piece of lore but instead shannon uses it to make her character revolve entirely around sandor. it annoys me so so so so bad. she's like ro in that sense, except instead of her only personality trait being "sokeefe shipper that occasionally snarks about the lost cities/sparkles", it's "sandor's girlfriend that occasionally makes a snarky comeback generally" idk it's just not something that appeals to me personally . . . the bodyguards in general are not very fleshed out but grizel annoys me the most because she's in the story enough to be fleshed out and yet she is not
so to put it together we have a hyper girlboss in the place of an actually well written female character who revolves entirely around a man . . . she's kind of an encapsulation of my main problem with most of the female characters in kotlc (della included . . . with her i just make up my own lore so i like her more but canon della leaves a lot to be desired)
#edaline is like this too. she exists entirely as a mother and wife and it is incredibly annoying to me personally. juline as well#grady gets cool fucked up anger lore and gets to burn someone's hand off and edaline like. cries#we know she HAS cool lore because it's hinted at!!!! when she used to work for the nobility she did shit that got redacted so like#i just. don't think shannon is very good at character writing in general even with characters more central to the plot like sophie fitz etc#or main villains like fintan or gisela . . . i'm holding out hope for gisela getting a backstory but canon fintan has wasted potential#all the kotlc characters i like i like because of my own made up lore . . . like i made up lore for della alden and gethen#kotlc is best when it comes to worldbuilding and in books one to six it was good with plot but i've never cared about the canon characters#completely unrelated tangent in the tags there but the grizel problem is part of a bigger problem for me#kotlc#anti grizel#asks#anon

TMAG Theory Board Update (EP 11-12)
Hi guys sorry about the late posting I've just started a new quarter of college and its been pretty hectic. also got into my school design BFA program so pretty stoked about that! Anyways lets get into the Episode Breakdowns because even though not a lot of lore related things happened I still have a lot to talk about

For the breakdown I'll separate each by episode in sequential order
What Happened in Episode 11: Marked
Celias Rude Awakening- we jump right into the weirdness straight away with Celia waking up on the side of the interstate. she indicates that this is not a weird occurrence and ends the scene by telling someone named Jack that she's "on her way." If you remember episode 8 after Celia and Sam talk to Gerry and Gertrude, she mentions stuff about wanting help with her own mystery. When Sam asks about it she says she's looking into Time travel, other dimentions and teleportation. Many people have theorized that maybe Celia is just a super heavy sleepwalker, but I think the she teleports random places out of nowhere. This could be a side effect of her reality hopping if this Celia is originally from The archives universe.
As for the identity of Jack I'm not quite sure about that yet. I cross referenced the name Jack with past episodes of TMA. The only thing that came up was Jack Barnabas from the statement about dating Agnes Montague (aka an avatar of the desolation and Jesus-like figure for the cult of the lightless flame) So Unless Celia is secretly Agnes of Agnes reincarnated , I can't find any way to link Barnabas to Celia. (if anyone has a theory feel free to send it my way.)
Sam Lore- this one is pretty minor story-wise but I thought it was interesting. Before the statement for the episode is presented we get some classic Sam and Alice Banter ™ most of it is pretty lighthearted but I noticed Sam mention something that could indicate he might be an amputee.

These could not mean anything and I find it weird that it hasn't been mentioned until now but thought it was kind of cool and I will probably be drawing sam with a prothetic leg in the future cause I really like this head-canon. It also begs to question if he is missing a leg. it might have anything to do with his past as a Magnus institute test subject but then again could just be a fun character detail added by Jonny and/or Alex .
The Statement- Getting into the statement we get another Ink5oul appearance. Also possible Ink5oul identifying as she/they. (and lets be honest being a fear avatar is pretty non binary core). I found this Episode gave me a feeling of a hybrid between the Vast, Buried and the Flesh some people are theorizing that is might be a new entity called the Deep but I think that the fear of the ocean could easily apply to the vast or buried. Not much to say about this story though pretty standard Magnus horror that also gave us a hint to what Ink5oul's goal could be/which entity they serve.
Post Bonzo- Gwen has a debrief with Lena after her first Externals Liason assignment and her meeting with Mr. Bonzo. Undoubtedly Gwen is still pretty shaken from her encounter, even arriving late to work due to sleeplessness. Gwen is able to ask Lena a few questions mainly she wanted to know who's name was written on the letter given to Bonzo
Lena is largely unhelpful but tells Gwen she should have worked it out by now and if not to pay close attention to the case load for the next couple of days. before the latest episode my guess was Klaus because that is the only person mentioned so far that the OIAR intends to kill. but more on that later
Marked- Now were getting to my favorite thing about this episode. This episode title can have two meanings. The first is the more literal interpretation. Tattoos are marking of the body and the case this episode was all about tattoos so easily a good name would be marked. But I believe this is a red herring meant to misguide listeners who have not consumed all 200 episodes of TMA because if you know the world of Magnus Archives the term Marked takes on a entirely different meaning.
In TMA the term marked is used to indicate that somebody has been influenced by one or more or the fears and are one their way to becoming an Avatar. I think this could be a coded way to tell the audience someone in the OIAR has been marked. I have two potential candidates
Alice Dyer- Alice has been having dreams about the Institute after her and Sam's adventure into the ruins. also she mentions feeling like someone's watching her (common to people influenced or fed upon by the Ceaseless Watcher/The Eye) My guess if she is marked it would be by the Eye.
Gwendolyn Bouchard: Probably the most likely culprit. The main way an entitly tends to mark people is through encounters with other avatars. Gwen has just had an encounter with Mr Bonzo last episode who I strongly believe must be an avatar of some sort.
What Happened in Episode 12: Getting Off

Aww Sam!!- Sam asked Celia out and it was adorably awkward. not much to say I just loved this interaction and I'm longing for a new Magnus brand office romance hopefully is wont be an agonizing slowburn that ends tragically like a certain pair of morons from Archives (I love you Jon and Martin but Jesus christ)
It's Bonzo time bitches!!- Probably one of the most gruesome Magnus statement I've ever listened to (good work Alex) Mr Bonzo completely annihilated some poor dude at his bachelor party. Based on the date of the Incident the I can confidently say that whoever Baz (the groom) was he was our mystery person the OIAR sent Mr Bonzo to get rid of. Along with some of the bloodiest imagery we learned a few things about Bonzo. The most interesting detail is that Bonzo has to be summoned by playing his theme song I think the CD of his theme song acts somewhat like the tapes did in TMA by materialising out of nowhere. Also fun fact you know that torn seam that is right down Bonzo's middle? that is actually is his mouth lined with rows sharp teeth so I guess I know that now (so fun) Moral of the story dont f*ck with Mr. Bonzo
Alice knows something: Theres been this recurring audio glitch throughout TMAGP thatnks to a few extremly observent fans we have started to relize that these glitches are not at all random and are actually letting the audience know when a character is lying (i actually reposted somones deepdive into all the istances of this glitch so far if you guys are intrested in knowing more) why i bring this up now is becuase since we know when any charater is lying we also know when they are being truthful if there is no glitch when they say somthing and at the end of this episode this interaction occurs

Alice goes ahead and makes a joke about this to annoy Gwen but the fact theres no audio glitch when she says "I know" means she does actually know who is behind the OIAR and is activly refusing to share it with Gwen or the others. What do you know Alice!?
and that's about it im already loving these next batch of episodes and am so excited to learn more (ERROR has to show up somtime )
thanks to everyone who resonded the poll on the last update I will continue to include drawings into the breakdown even if it takes me a little bit of time to post. anyways I wrote this all in one sitting and I'm about ready to pass out so thanks again and the ask box and comments are always open for discussion and theory crafting.

The problem with Lost's final season (full spoilers btw) isn't "unanswered questions" (after all the episode set aside to answer all the stray unanswered questions is one of the worst ones), it's that the flashsideways are bad. They're a bad idea that's not executed well
They don't feel organic to the story, but feel like they're there bc it's the final season and in final seasons you revisit old characters, and because the writers can't just remove the flash structure even if there's nothing to flash to anymore.
But the problem is that...okay. The flashbacks did hint at larger lore and connections, but each one also told a complete story about the character's life before the island, and more importantly, who they really were before the Island. It's important that Locke was in a wheelchair, but it's equally important to learn that Locke was a LARPing office worker with a desperate need to feel special. The flashforwards were pieces of a larger puzzle, but also told complete stories about how each character's life fell apart after leaving the Island.
But the flashsideways are...an AU version of everyone's first season character, running through familiar beats with some unexpected connections, but no clear reason why it matters? I remember the discussion at the time, and there was relatively little discussion of the content of the flashsideways, just a lot of discussion of what cool explanation will eventually make it all matter in retrospect. People did discuss the bigger picture of the flashforwards, but they did also discuss the character arcs to a larger degree. I guess there's the ~thrill~ of dead characters returning, but uh. Lost already had a half-dozen devices to do that and did that regularly. Lost did unexpected character connections in flashbacks since day one.
Because there's just no momentum to them. Because they don't introduce a character who knows what's going on until two-thirds of the way into the season, and deny us any explanation of what's going on until the penultimate scene of the series. At least in the flashforwards we knew they escaped the Island, even if we didn't know how. Here we have nothing
But when they do reveal what it is, it's...odd for a couple reasons. The surface level are the absurdities, like Sayid's soulmate being Shannon, Aaron entering the afterlife as a baby, and Ji-Yeon entering the afterlife as a fetus surrounded by people she never met.
At a bigger level, though, the afterlife is a place where people are drawn to work through their issues and then move on, with the people they're tied to by destiny.
That's...the Island. That's what the Island is. Did the Island fail to improve anyone but Frank and Mr. Eko? Why do they get drawn to the Island to undergo character development with everyone, then get reset to do it all again after their death?
The answer is so they can have the requisite finale warm and fuzzy ending where they all move on together, all in a church with all the other people they've spent six seasons screaming and pointing guns at.
The writers talked about story arcs and character arcs they cut from season six for lack of time, but half of each episode is devoted to a plot line that only gains emotional resonance in the finale, and that gains no real energy or interest when you do know what's going on, since the way it's set up is designed to invite theories before it's designed to lend emotional weight. Bc why should I care about a character reliving season one's flashbacks, when I uh, saw season one?
Like. Everyone complained about how repetitive Kate's flashbacks were, even in season one. Kate's on the run, she does something that shows she cares, goes back on the run. Kate has by far the thinnest backstory of any of the "major" characters. And what's the first solo flashsideways? A season one style Kate On The Run episode. They ran out of material for the basic flashbacks fairly early, and spent season four doing flashforwards, and spent season five doing flashbacks to everyone's life in the timeskip, and then the final season brings them back, but uh, she meets Claire! So it's different enough now
In the afterlife Jack has a son named David, and his arc is about his afterlife son David, because after the show made Jack interesting again in the last couple seasons by giving him new arcs we really need to go back to the "Jack's daddy issues" well, and then halfway into the finale he's just never mentioned again, and anyway, the writers later said that David was just a psychic projection of Jack's younger self. Which would've been a neat storyline to allude to in any way, instead of having the end of his storyline be everyone just kind of leaving and forgetting him

DAY FIVE - POWERS

GWYN'S HERITAGE
“My grandmother was a river-nymph who seduced a High Fae male from the Autumn Court. So I’m a quarter nymph, but it’s enough for this.”
Gwyn gestured to her large eyes—blue so clear it could have been the shallow sea—and her lithe body.
“My bones are slightly more pliant than ordinary High Fae’s, but who cares about that?”
_______
“My mother was unwanted by either of their people. She could not dwell in the rivers of the Spring Court, but was too untamed to endure the confinement of the forest house of Autumn.
So she was given in her childhood to the temple at Sangravah, where she was raised.
We were the result of that sacred union with a male stranger. She never found out who he was, for the magic chose him that night, and no one ever showed up to ask about twin girls.
WHAT WE KNOW
Gwyn is 1/4 Nymph from the Spring Court, 1/4 Autumn Court and 1/2 Mystery. She's got an invoking stone that provides the power of healing and protection. And she glows when she happy.
WHAT COULD HER POWERS INCLUDE?
Fire: SJM made a lot of hints towards Eris being her grandfather (Rabbit Hole Post), and we do know for a fact she has Autumn Court ancestry. Quotes from the books that hint at fire power -
Nesta meeting Gwyn, her power recognising her (unknown) flames: A crackling sort of energy buzzed around her, and Nesta’s power grumbled in answer.
How Feyre described her rising Autumn court flames: My blood heated, and I took a breath to cool it, to cool the magic crackling at the insult.
Eris talking about the Made dagger: Eris sucked in a breath. Feyre said, “You can sense its power.”
“There’s flame in it,” Eris said...
Her nymph heritage: I think she'll have an affinity for water, but no powers (maybe the ability to hold her breath for long periods of time).
Glowing when she sings: One thing to note when she glows is that she's incredibly happy when it happens. Singing brings her true joy, and that's reflected in the positive language Nesta uses to describe Gwyn singing. Her song is like sunshine and a ray of light. This reminded me of what Rhys said to Feyre in ACOMAF.
"Well, at least now I can gloat that I can literally make my mate glow with happiness."
Right now, singing is the one thing that makes Gwyn happy. She goes off on a rant to Nesta about how amazing it is, and you can feel her excitement in the writing. Maybe SJM is only using light as symbolism for Gwyn's joy, or it could be hinting at other powers…maybe she is linked to the Day Court or another solar court.
Her invoking stone:
“It’s an Invoking Stone.” Gwyn unfurled her fingers, revealing the gem within her hand. “Similar to the Siphons of the Illyrians, except that the power of the Mother flows through it. We cannot use it for harm, only healing and protection. It was shielding us.”
We know it works, but will we see Gwyn use it again the way it's intended? Will she wear it on her head again like the other priestesses? I'm going to guess 100% YES! And it will be used to heal/protect someone important in the next book (I'm guessing Azriel or maybe Emerie/Nesta).
The Lightsinger Theory: We just don't know enough about them to put Gwyn in this box. But it can be fun to write about it from a non-evil perspective (because why would SJM take the evil route!?).
If you look up "Lightsinger," there's no fantasy lore about them, so SJM has made them up. If Gwyn is a Lightsinger, then I highly doubt what Cassian said is 100% accurate. Lore can change as stories are passed down. Cassian mostly describes a Kelpie in ACOSF, which means he knows the name Lightsinger, but perhaps not what they actually are or what they do.
"A kelpie is designed to lure and kill, just as a wolf is designed to hunt its prey."
“There are lightsingers: lovely, ethereal beings who will lure you, appearing as friendly faces when you are lost. Only when you’re in their arms will you see their true faces, and they aren’t fair at all. The horror of it is the last thing you see before they drown you in the bog. But they kill for sport, not food.”
My headcanon is that a Lightsinger is linked to the moon or holy light. When researching Lightsingers, the closest thing I found to them were Moonsinger priestesses from Game of Thrones.
If it's moonlight, and Gwyn is in fact a Lightsinger, then that could explain why Azriel's shadows like Gwyn's light but hate sunlight.
To quote the Moonmaiden Shadowheart from BG3: "You can't cast a shadow without some light."
It's hard to guess which way SJM will go for Gwyn's powers, but there's certainly a lot of potential. SJM spent time fleshing out Gwyn in Nesta's book, so we can expect to get answers in the next one. She's certainly been set up to be very powerful!

some of my favorite lore bits so far:
- roier cubito betrayal. followed up on so well that you can still see its marks months later
- regret arc. shaking cellbit cubito right now THE MUSIC CHOICES. loved the build up loved that final rescue mission and loved how in the end it was a combination of cellbit finally being able to reach out to the others and the rest of the server reaching back that saved him and felps
- the bobby dungeon. bobby may not have been revived and the result was unbelievably cruel but it's like the regret dungeon, they were all willing to come together to give it their all and try to save him. has also had loads of long lasting effects on all parts of the lore. like another one of my favorite parts, familia brown de luque amd the roier adoption, probably wouldn't have happened without this. same with ninho
- jaiden and cucurucho. the original way that storyline started with her trying to see if she could at least help the other eggs after bobby is just 😭
- fit and the resistance. this stuff has been in the works for AGES and it's cool to see all the hidden hints
- also really like how bagi wasn't afraid to start asking questions when the resistance reached out to her
- etoiles and the codes (excluding his first death at their hands). I still think his first death at the code's hands should have been a huge thing with almost the entire server present, but him slowly but surely placing this burden on himself because no one else could do it? 😭 etoiles tqm
- tina's demon stuff. just as a character concept is always SO INTERESTING!!! I look forward to seeing how she keeps dealing with this
- happy pills. INCREDIBLE. CINEMA. everyone coming together in that last scene to help forever and pac <3<3<3 pac saving the day with his antidote <3<3<3<3 love how the ordem base was used for it
- on that note theory bros!!! the original building blocks for the ordem which is also another one of my favorite bits of lore. just sitting there and talking theories somebody please bring those days back
- spiderbit wedding and also spiderbit in general could not go without a mention 🙏. they're a unit, they're out there with their lores intertwined role playing as a married couple and everything that comes with it and everything that means and it's just so special to see. nobody's doing it like them. I still hope we get to see them as murder husbands someday 😔
- special shout out to ratatoier for being so utterly ridiculous and well crafted
i'm missing a bunch of stuff I know but these are some of the bits that immediately jumped to my mind. if you've got your own favorite lore feel free to add it <3
#speaking#qsmp#EDIT FORGOT ABOUT THE JUANA FLIPPA TRIAL!!!!!!!!#roier and jaiden being kick ass lawyers <3<3<3<3#roier amd jaiden's entire relationship ;_;#anything and everything maxo cubito ever did#LUZU AND ARIN#casualonas <3<3<3<3

John Egbert, The Chess Grand Master's Girlfriend
(page 422-423)
8/1/2009 Wheel Spin: Parent Bad :( (again) Verdict: STILL VERY INCORRECT
These pages introduce a whole bunch of new concepts, but make a lot more sense when read side by side with page 251, which has already hinted at these (making Act 2 feel really well planned out). A lot comes together this way so this is 1300 words of Lore Discussion.
The Seven Gates - These appear to be the seven blue spirographs we pass through in first person POV on page 422, and also the blue spirographs that appear above John's house on page 251. These look like some kind of stepping stones (in-game achievements?) on the path to Skaia.
The number seven hasn't appeared in Homestuck yet, but in Western culture it is seen as a lucky number, and in Christian numerology it symbolizes perfection and evokes the seven days of creation, as well as the seven deadly sins. There are seven notes in a musical scale, and we know the characters are musicians, seven colors in the spectrum of light, and color appears to be symbolically relevant, and seven is the average roll for two six-sided dice, which are very commonly used in board games and tabletop roleplaying games.
Skaia - A spherical blue place covered in clouds with a white spirograph/flower shape in the center - perhaps made of pure sky, due to the name and its transparency. Of course, Sburb was created by Skaianet Systems, so its designers have some ties to this place. Its associations with height, sky, light and potential clearly relate it to the Christian concept of heaven. However, it's also referred to as a 'dormant crucible,' with a crucible being a scientific or alchemical container that can withstand extreme heat, used in historical metalwork and modern laboratories. The science and religion dichotomy is here to stay.
Nannasprite refuses to say what the 'unlimited creative potential' of Skaia means, because she won't give spoilers, but I immediately think of creativity = art. All the characters have hobbies that relate to creating and consuming different types of art, but for the most part they're not very good at it and/or don't have great taste. Skaia being something that unlocks their artistic potential - but at the same time, being something they have to put in a lot of work to reach, just as getting good at art takes practice - is very cool to me. However this could also relate to biblical creation, similar to the seven gates = seven days.
Skaia is 'untouched by the flow of time' and has so I absolutely think that people at Skaianet Systems accessed the creative power of Skaia and used it to create a video game that went far beyond the standard capabilities of technology, and that this power is the secret to their success (and how an unknown company made such a smash hit game on their first try).
Forces of Light & Darkness - Sburb is a classic good vs evil narrative, represented by the black and white pieces on a chessboard. Again on page 251, we see the flashing white/black/blue kernelsprite divide into not two but three parts - a white part that ascends, a black part that descends, and a blue part that remains with John. It's possible that these three parts all share knowledge via the game engine, explaining how Nannasprite knows so much about what's going on overall. She then becomes the bridge between the good faction, the evil faction, and the player whose arrival changes the game.
Seeing Skaia as artistic creation is interesting here, because it's exclusively associated with the forces of light/good. In the real world it's definitely possible for art to be used for evil, to attempt to manipulate people and intentionally spread negative and harmful messages, or just to mistreat the people who create it. In Homestuck, forces of darkness 'covet the destruction' of creativity (according to Nannasprite), which is a closer parallel to arts in the real world being underfunded and undervalued, with capitalism forcing people to work long hours at jobs where they're not able to stretch their creative muscles and that don't leave any time or energy for creative hobbies. The metaphor definitely works, but I'm really curious on if Homestuck will explore the idea that art isn't necessarily a perfect universal good.
Curtains/Stage - The many layered red curtains in page 422's animation share a design with the red curtains on page 247, marking the end of act 1. This positions the curtains/acts as representing different locations - John's house on Earth, Skaia in the Medium, likely others, perhaps corresponding to scene changes on a stage that need to happen behind a curtain. Nannasprite also uses the word 'stage' to describe the setting of a duel between light and darkness, coding Homestuck and/or Sburb as a theater performance.
Chessboard - So there's a 1986 musical called Chess, and I think any parallels are probably coincidence, but it's still fun to think about just due to the chessboard on page 423. The story is a metaphor for the Cold War, represented by a US and Soviet chess champion (which from an American perspective at the time were the forces of light and dark, although in the modern day I do not personally share this assessment). A Hungarian/English woman dates both of these chess grand masters at separate times, who tries to calm their rivalry and is simultaneously manipulated by it.
At the time, musicals were not seen as an intellectual artistic medium, and creator Tim Rice was explicitly trying to create a more literary musical that would be taken more seriously, which is similar to how Homestuck is expanding the possibilities of a webcomic. Also notable from Wikipedia: the original set designer (who was replaced due to illness) 'had planned a "multimedia" show, with an elaborate tilting floor, banks of television monitors, and other technological touches.' I'm going to look for a recording of Chess and see if there's any further comparisons worth making.
John's Role - Yesterday, Nannasprite said that the Incipisphere came into being via John's computer, but also stands independently of it and always has. Today, Nannasprite says that the forces of light and dark have dueled forever in eternal stalemate until John showed up. This was confusing to me until I realized it's exactly how video game worlds work - they 'come into being' when a player installs them and begins playing, but at that point the characters and world already have extensive history. No matter the story, there's no way for any faction within the game to 'win' or for certain key things to happen until the player takes action. The player character's arrival into the game is typically the inciting incident that spawns a new chain of events, beginning to change the course of the narrative.
John's arrival changing everything doesn't necessarily mean that he specifically is a fated hero, just that he's the player character. He probably has a choice of paths to follow in the game, and can choose whether to ascend to Skaia and fight alongside the forces of light, or descend to the weird smoke below his house and fight alongside the forces of darkness, either way ending the stalemate if he succeeds. I wonder what the morality mechanics are in Sburb, and how they correspond to John's echeladder.
If I was to wildly theorize, I'd say that if John fights alongside the forces of light, reaches Skaia and beats the game, he'll be able to draw from that 'dormant crucible of unlimited creative potential' to not only undo the destruction of Earth, but also to create Homestuck itself, and release this work on the day his adventure originally began (as he's now outside the flow of linear time) instead of releasing the Sburb beta. This would bring a lot of meta elements of the story full circle, would help explain the multiple layers of commands and commentary in Homestuck, and would make our world's story and John's story into one consistent narrative. If done well, I think that could tie everything up very neatly.

JULY UPDATE
Hey hey hey! Welcome back to the show, “The Monthly Jayce Myles Comics Updates!” Where I give obvious monthly updates to my followers about the progress for the hit series that hasn’t debuted yet, “ROTTMNT: The Jayce Myles Comics”! Sorry I haven’t posted this month, I was hella busy with college applications and other projects, but I’m delighted to get back into these updates.
Without further ado, let’s get the show running! I have some fun things to show ya!!!
The Comic
(W.I.P OF THE OFFICIAL DEBUT COMIC)
The month was way too quick for my own good, the comic’s slow. Again, I was busy applying to college and doing other side projects I’m working on. I’m gonna be attending college next month so the comic will have its hardships but I really wanna pursue my education as well, but the updates shall continue like always with all of its fun content! Anyways, the comic: the debut has 20+ pages and my god it’s just insane on how many there are when I’m not even halfway there. I’m impressed with how many pages go by just to tell the story, older pages will be fixed up so it either might be reduced or even more but that’s for future Jae to decide; I’m learning as I go! It’s also better that I show instead of say that I’m just “working on it” since it’s easy to lie to be honest.
The turtles haven’t been seen since I haven’t got to drawing their introductions yet, I’m gonna shart in my pants because I’m scared but I’m literally an artist doing a comic so I gotta do them sooner than later. Maybe the next update you’ll see them? Don’t hold me too much onto that but it might be a cute goal to set, let me know what happened when the August update comes!
Jayce is so silly with her coat huh? She’s just a girl giving it her best, even if they thrift at the worst shop known to man (they’re gonna learn someday…) We also got Rogelio and Jayce being all cool together, I was proud of that page when first sketching it out. They both are so sweet to draw out, hope to see their finalized pages to see their true potential!
Bonus Content: Hidden City Mystical Crystals

Silly reader, you’re scratching your nose and thinking, “what am I looking at?” You’re in luck! Cuz these babies are actually additional parts about the Hidden City’s lore/magic system. Magic system? Yes, a magic system. The Jayce Myles Comics is going beyond the original canon of Rise and creating many more original concepts and combining it with what was given by the canon. I wanted to show off more of the mystics from yokai because their potential was so much cooler to finally explore when drafting the ideas.
The Hidden City’s magic system is based off of the elements, not too complicated, but has some different rules when compared to other executions of the elemental magic system. That’s for another day, I’m only gonna talk about the crystals and show what they can do. You can reference this update and look into the JMC with this cool bit of knowledge! Let’s get started >:3
Origins of the Mystical Crystals

These crystals were created based off of industrial flaws people have faced. Basically, I learned about the 1920s construction workers and their working conditions where it made me think “what would the have wished for when they worked?” I referenced from real people, history books, and my own personal experiences to create functions, and help base the crystals off of what I came up with.
The Netflix show, “Arcane” was a great inspiration to combine mystics with technology, the brand was called “Hextech” and it’s system was hella cool to me and it helped a lot when I was working on the crystal’s concepts. The mystical crystals are meant to be used as “tools to help the magic user”, where they can enhance their power, gain a temporary ability, create spells, or use in technology.
The names of them are based off of the Latin languages like, English, Italian, Spanish, and a hint of both Chinese and Korean if you squint really hard. I will go through each of the crystals in a vague manner for ya’ll to see what they can do!
Fire Magic
Fire magic is actually defined as: “The manipulation/manifestation of temperature” instead of just heat, it can be fire or ice.
LA HEILMAQ: The crystal is based off of quartz in visuals and has the glow like a moonstone! La Heilmaq is the crystal that’s used to help air conditioning in modern homes and create weapons. They’re the most natural crystal to use to create weapons since it’s form holds up so well, it’s as common as bronze in real life! They’re pretty cold to the touch, so be careful and don’t hold them for too long if you’re 1. not a fire magic user, or 2. not wearing gloves. These babies are used for more attacks than defense since they’re pretty deadly if you’ve been penetrated by the crystal itself.
EL HEILMAQ: This crystal is based off of colored glass from old alcohol bottles, tainted windows, and the power of friendship because this is the one that isn’t the most realistic looking since I made the shape up. It looks like the “BOOM!” shape for a reason~ El Heilmaq is the crystal which contains heat, it’s sealed by the actual gemstone itself so you’re able to touch with your bare hands without getting burned. The crystal can be used for restoring heat in homes, making artillery, and/or throwing them on the ground to create natural firecrackers. Most yokai use smaller bits of the crystal as distractions and the bigger pieces to help the industry by keeping their homes warm, they don’t need boiler rooms or to grab coal because El Heilmaq crystals can already do that for them without causing damage to nature.
The word Heilmaq was based off the English word “Hail” which is Ice, which is to hammer the idea that this isn’t just heat based. The word Maq is gibberish that's made to be another word for "kaboom", which brings more of the fire elements to the word itself.
Air Magic
Air magic is defined as, “The manipulation/manifestation of oxygen”!
LA SENYÁR: The crystal is based off of diamonds and emeralds! La Senyár is a crystal that helps give the air magic user more of a boost, they can crash the crystal and it gives them a boost of air so they can jump higher, dodge quicker, or just blow a gust of wind at the enemy. The crystal itself is used by technology to give it more flight, used in planes, cars, and even shoes! Yes, shoes can also have the crystal, it helps the bird yokai give them a boost to use their wings to fly. The word Senyár is a word based off of the Spanish word, “Soñar” that translates to “To Dream”; it was named this way because the way how the pressure of the air isn’t as powerful or dense, it’s like if you’re walking on clouds, it feels like a dream.
Water Magic
Water magic is defined as, “The manipulation/manifestation of water and health”
LA CANTÉM: The crystal is based off of pebbles found in rivers, ponds, and on rock beaches; there’s also influence by the topaz gemstone with it’s beautiful orange color. La Cantém is a healing crystal, where you’re able to use it on yourself to cool down injuries where it helps heal the wounds. It works both as a numbing solution and healing solution based on the water magic user. With these crystals, you always have to hydrate them in fresh water so the water can absorb into the crystal and used as energy; if it’s dehydrated, then the crystal’s will be weaker. The word Cantém is based off of the Spanish word, “Cantar” where it translates to, “To Sing”. It’s because singing can calm people down, and the crystal helps calm down the injured and lets the healing process go smoothly, it’s based off of my bestie where their singing really was like fresh water to my ears, a great inspiration for this crystal.
Earth Magic
Earth magic is defined as, “The manipulation/manifestation of nature”
EL TERÉM: The crystal is based off of an amethyst visually, and yes, inside there’s a different color! El Terém is the crystal that most fighters use in order to manipulate rocks/boulders, build stronger architecture, or create rock shields when you throw them on the floor. It’s mostly rock based but still hella good to use in battle as a defense mechanism, the rock that’s formed is sturdy too, not weak for it to break easily. Shredder would have no problems breaking it but that guy’s insane. The word Terém is inspired by the word "tear" or "contain", any interpretation rocks! (no pun intended)
Yin Magic
Yin magic is defined as, “The manipulation/manifestation of darkness”
MIE SIÑE: The crystal is based off of titanium black tourmaline and onyx. Mie Siñe is the crystal that contains shadows inside, depending on what the spell is, it either can produce shadows or fog. The usage for the crystal is much more unknown since Yin magic is banned from being used in Witchtown, but the crystal itself has been documented to be used to isolate the enemy when being used. It's also been used to cover the enemies eyes with darkness in order to distract them/become vulnerable sight wise. The word Siñe is a word based on the actual word "Sign" and "Sin", which holds a lot of significance into the story so I won't spoil.
Yang Magic
Yang magic is defined as, “The manipulation/manifestation of light”
MIE PIRE: This dear crystal is based off of the Italian onyx, magnesite, and calcite. Mie Pire is the crystal that contains light inside, any kind of light, it's not just sunlight. It's a bit more tricky and dangerous to use since you can blind yourself with it more easily, so it's also not as used. However, Yang magic is also banned like Yin, but there has still been technological uses for Mie Pire like using it as an alternative for electricity (which saves the bills!) and also used as lamps for more conservative places like Witchtown. The crystal has proved itself useful as a light source, but it can still be used as a defense mechanism by blinding the enemies eyes for a good second of even minute. The word Pire is based off of the word "Pure" which means that this crystal is very raw hence why it's dangerous. Another word it's inspired by is the Latin word "Pyra" which means "Bonfire". Both interpretations are used for this one!
The word Mie is based off of the actual Italian word "Mie" which means "My". It doesn't truly mean mine, because it's also inspired by the Spanish "Mira" that translates to "Look". It can be interpreted any way you want!
Thank you for coming to this lovely update! I've been working really hard to get the comic rolling and to also balance out my personal life with it, but I'm proud of how far I've come in the span of a year! Lots of progress has been made and it's getting much more exciting to create for the JMC. Have a wonderful day/night and see ya'll soon.

And finally....the moment of truth...
So ive been working at a movie theater over a year now and used one of my movie passes to see Beetlejuice beetlejuice and my short review of it?
SPOILERS BELOW
3-3.5 out of 5 or 6-7 out of 10 so good/pretty good like slightly above mid.
But I still liked and enjoyed it a lot, it was fun and I liked the nostalgia fuel being a fan since childhood in the late 90's and 00's and I plan to see it 2 more times, once in 4DX (thank you employee discount). I also have merch put aside for me at work lol
The good
It was fun, well acted, practical effects were great, music was well implemented into their scenes and great choices of music, Catherine O hara stole the show as Delia, sets looked amazing, especially the netherworld iim glad we get to explore more of it.
I liked the jeremy twist (although the hints were kinda obvious to me At least to me). Their parallels to Beetlejuice and Lydia were good and i also felt a parallel between Jeremy and Beetlejuice's teen death rocker alter ego he used to trick lydia from the original unused script, Maybe iits just mee tho.
It is sad to see Lydia become a shell of herr self over the years not tto mention addicted to pills but i think its an interesting way to go especially with her ptsd from beetlejuice, I can see it. (I just wish they used this more as an explanation on her current state and the rift in her relationship with Richard and Astrid as well as as lydia's powers)
I enjoyed the parallels too the musical seeing lydia sort of adopt Charlie's role and astrid be in the shoes that musical Lydia was interesting. Not sure how intentional it was with that or if it was intentional at all tho.
the not so good
The begining slogs a bit, and once we pick the pace up it feels rushed especially during the wedding after the musical number (which Was good), other parts seem rushed too, it feels like a lot going on at once like they pushed multiple ideas for sequels all together which also gave a lot of new characters barley anything to do and made me feel liike they're kinda useless.
I love Delores, im absolutely self shipping with her but it feels like shes just there for eye candy and to be the ficy "other woman" trope.
Willam Defoe's character is fun in theory especially a cocky actor/stuntman playing a cop who died from a scene and is a wannabe cop in the afterlife but in execution he feels pointless.
I wanted to like Astrid more, im glad she wasn't like horribly written, I LOATHE when activist characters especially young ones are written by people who make them unlikable and obnoxious but she felt kinda .... boring sorta like a bit of a rehash of movie and musical lydia (with a dash of cartoon) in one but we only get glimpses into her interests and a lot of it is similar to Lydia even the activist part. And yeah obviously she can share interests with her parents I get she probably got it from them but i wanna know other stuff about her. Although a thing i do like is she is a sceptic while Lydia knows the paranormal exist.
Sorta related to that above there's a bunch oof cool ideas i wish weren't rushed through or they'd explore more.
we also get more netherworld lore which is cool and good but some of it leaves more questions then i had for years with the original.
lastly because this is my biggest Tim Burton beef is that there was still racial stereotypes in the film, he has learned bit over the years with Wednesday but it's still obvious he has some way to go with the Asian dry cleaner and the Soul Train scenes where we see most of the black characters in the film mind you probably the most black people we've seen in any Tim Burton film LOL (speaking as a black fan)
WOW uh I wrote way more than expected lol i have more thoughts but that's it for now, hopefully I will be posting here more in the near future.

Fun character for your consideration: Anastasia Renard. Married the most rigid and all-about-integrity man and together they almost bored Puck to death. Got tired of the guy eventually (did Owen witness the messy divorce then?) and decided to do fun side projects in Australia, like seeing if nanotechnological artificial intelligence breaking free will awaken her daughter's dormant magic. Probably has more abcdefg plan variants than Xanatos. What a woman
Titania/Anstasia "I love a partner with a vision and conviction" Renard! You are so correct. What a fucking icon.
She tells Oberon, "I have seen her in crisis after crisis," and you Have to Wonder how many of those instances were engineered by AnastasiaTitania. She doesn't strike me as a very passive character at all, but a calculated one.
Also how fucking cool is it that she spent 100 years (likely more) studying science. She's a triple threat. Faerie Queen, Ultra-Experienced Scientist, and Fox's Mom. By the lore of the show, science and magic can be used together but only with a lot of effort and usually teamwork (see: Demona the sorcerer and Xanatos the scientist reviving Coldstone) but AnastasiaTitania can do alone what would take a team just from her own knowledge!
And yes, Anastasia and Renard got divorced in 1991 when Fox was twenty-five, and OwenPuck started working at Cyberbiotics in 1989. He was 100% present for any evidence of their relationship drama and decided to jump ship right at the very end, since he started working for Xanatos in 1991 as well. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
I guess the first Titania divorce (from Oberon) might be kind of novel but the second - come on! He's seen this movie before!
I find myself wondering often how much of AnastasiaTitania's actions in the show are truly her intention and how much of it is massaging events to appear a certain way to onlookers. The events of The Gathering Pt 1 and 2 - was all of it her design? Did she know from the get that Owen was Puck (I suspect the answer is yes) and work on building her own contingencies into the events of July 9th, 1996? (lol - I'm almost exactly 11 months older than Alexander) How much of what she does is a whim, or improvisation? I find her a mystery, and very fun to write because of this. She balances on the knife edge in a lot of ways, and any one interacting with her should have the intelligence to be wary (Hello - Faerie Queen).
We know Oberon wouldn't be besotted with her if she weren't outstandingly alluring, intelligent, and every bit his equal is power. We see subtle little shifts between him and her in the episode "Ill Met by Moonlight." Titania proposes a way for Oberon to regain her hand, on the condition that he wins, and then gives his opponent hints re: his weaknesses. When Oberon subccumbs, she accepts him in marriage regardless of the fact that he lost. It's just so fascinating! He was the one who divorced her, she is the one who welcomes him back.
So yes, anon I agree!! AnastasiaTitania Renard!! WHAT A WOMAN!

DCRC Paperinik Week 6
Day of the Cold Sun gaming, some would even say. Raider gaming...
Hold on let me just get the book... ah here we are.
Club Pe.nguin Jumpscare sorry I've been sitting in the lofi room a while but uh. If you played the game as a kid i'd recommend cp.j wholeheartedly i've had fun with it ANYWAY paperinik time
hi camera 9... i've only been told one thing and that its that we May or May Not get camera 9 lore this issue so ooh. hohoh. autism hands
oh poor lyla. i'm sure there is actually a suspicion here considering its lyla lay but i'm sure they're selling power to st. canard. and other cities outside of calisota and into other states, because lord thats what real plants do sometimes
JFIOEAJFIOEAJ THE STUPID JESTER HAT im so mad. a bright green suit okay. alright. the most suspicious thing ever but sure
i love the way the "portable neutralizer" is just a machine gun.
the setup is intriguing in this one... donald choosing to stay for uno and smiling when scrooge is assigning him work, unlike what he'd usually do
i love the way he's just like Donald, Please. There's crime afoot, which is More Important Right Now i'm so. uno's so silly...........
camera 9 :((((( another you can see both their perspectives situation like lyla has to erase the tape to maintain the space time continuum but camera 9 :(((((((
omg... i know this is probably another situation where its like haha! we don't appreciate you and i just. lyla standing up for him because she KNOWS nothing is his fault and he's just trying to do his job and vnbvnxb.
the little raider winds look cool... sorry the way they show the juxtaposition of the two reporters and their personalities and their philosophies here--for the greater good utilitarianism versus public duty--sorry i took a class on visual communication and it counted as journalism so there was some journalism ethics stuff in there
im so mad. the way the raider did a perfect angus fangus because he can just. act like a total jerk and the only slipping was in. the vocabulary
i just realized it uses a truffula tree style text box to showcase the fake one thats silly
camera 9...... i dont have anything to add just camera 9.....................
the scene where lyla talks to donald as uno while teleporting him there is so stupid. goofy ahh dramatic irony im so mad OH NO WAIT IM STUPID ithought she was doing an uno impression. and she's WHAT A CLUB PENGUIN UPDATE
sorry i just. i accepted wholeheartedly that uno was in the future for a second (thinking lyla was immitating uno and duck avenger just saw uno in his vision because i jumped sentence to sentence) forgetting it was in the past like. if nobody knows about the stuff in ducklair tower and its that advanced before scrooge bought it either this ducklair guy must have been the third richest duck in the world or there's some kind of time-alien something going on. but thats for the larger plot
spamtoon g spamtoon gets confused by obvious time skips more at 5
i love how she waits until he's like full on his swing and focused determinately to be like man. that sure sucked that conversation i just had! relatable lyla
ough... her robot eyes are so cool sorry like i know shes more android because shes supposed to blend in but the litle hints like this are so cool
sick panel....... once again commenting paperinik's use of action lines and hatching
she's cute in these panels... i love how much faith she has in donald
nooooooo dont call her inefficient she likes having a personality....... caring about people..... you cant replace lyla lay....... i do wanna know what death you want to give her to you know convince people she's still definitely a normal duck
bro the robots are beefing. uno please lyla can think too
so thats why the time police said In Our Future... i am admittedly owndering why paperinik gambled on taking a Deal with the guy--maybe because he's like okay well i dont know how to stop you right now if the time police can't so um. i'll make myself look bad because theres no other way probably. but i guess they needed a safe space for donald and the raider to talk in. sorry boys this might be my fisrt misconception of the day
raider paperinik bonding... im glad everyone in this universe does not like angus fangus until proven otherwise
the panel integration in pk. this shot in paritcular ooh. sorry maybe this is because im not used to comics but i like when they get playful with the panel format
the little camera nine hints... sorry i am actively engaged in this story right now. good time travel dilemma they've presented here
the stupid fucking raider text bubble im so mad. i almost wish it was cloaked when he's disguised but i suppose its supposed to be the same voice the traditional raider has so characters like lyla would be able to tell
donald's so Smug in this little panel bit... interesting that he's here despite y'know. fate of the universe and stuff. but maybe he's gonna try and convince them for both outcomes--duckburg Doesn't explode and yet they snatch the thing from raider. we fucked up time but like for good! we hope.
oh hey! they actually did explain how they would have killed her right here right now actually--so i guess we're going Against the space time continuum now neat, and the future's going to be up in the air again. donald and the police are at odds now thank cog
get their ASSES paperinik!!! this replacement looks pretty cool though just maybe send them back a few decades
sorry i love this panel the way they end pk issues... ough. i like how much she tries to make it up for camera 9 knowing she can't actually tell him what's going on to all the footage and the pictures and ough. oughghuhg. she has her own decisions and she geuninely cares about people even though she's not supposed to and its beautiful
i thought several times about continuing in this but i think i may need to like. Not and thats okay. i'll get paperinik another time boys but at this rate i might catch up! one could hope! maybe next week i'll read that week's issue on the actual week rather than the first day of next week or far far later

**Harbinger playability speculations
(Not included: Signora, Arlecchino, Childe, Scaramouche/Wanderer)
*some leaks, mentions of world quests, artifact lore, etc, was talking to a friend about this and wanted to write it down before I forgot later
Capitano - with preload leaks of his identity and more on his goals and personality in 5.1 of Natlan, I don’t doubt he’ll be playable. There’s leaks of him having icons and a model with what looks like a Wrio/Neuvi model type. I know some have reservations and doubts like they did with wanderer because of what happened to Signora (😔) but he’s a very popular harbinger that will release sooner or later. If not in Natlan, then in future chapters. Remember we still have chapter “???” Which is likely Khaenri’ah and beyond.
Pierro - he’s a mixed bag for me. His eyes, tho blurry in the vids, are very clearly Khaenri’an. I want to say, yes, though. He seems to have a similar model to Neuvillette and Wrio. We just need to know more about him and I’m positive we will when snezhnaya rolls around.
Pantalone - famous voice actors? Oh, yeah. Ain’t no way they would not make J. Michael Tatum playable bruh. Fun fact: Takanori Hoshino is the Japanese voice of Mickey Mouse. Additionally there’s too much about him shrouded in mystery. The Pale Tlame artifact set hints to him being from Liyue and holding a grudge against Rex lapis. He was speculated to be poor and is now extremely rich with the Fatui. There’s much potential there and he’s another husbando many would be excited for (myself included bc gottdayum he’s attractive lol)
Pulcinella - uh, as much as it’s cool to have a possible new playable model, I just don’t really see it happening.
Dottore - while I’m not the biggest fan of his I totally get why people enjoy him. With that said I think one of two things will happen. He will be playable either way because he has the tall male model but anyway. One of which I and many hope is that he stays a villain and is playable anyway. Morally grey characters are cool but straight up villains can be better. We don’t need every character to have redeeming qualities you know? Or second, the original dottore isn’t playable but a segment of his will be. I’m really hoping for the first because unless the second option is done right, I think it’s a lazy way to make a character playable and an excuse not to have actual villains in the game.
Columbina - another mystery character like is she a seelie a celestial or even some sort of Angel or creation? Very curious. She’s unnerving in all the right ways and I see her having the short girl model. Angel type characters fascinate me because religion in anime tropes can be so creepy and I love it lol
Sandrone - another one I’m unsure of. If she is, then I think she’ll also have the short girl model and be at the least morally grey. A Fontaine side quest (the one with the missing bird at the journalism place) at the end spoke about her torturing, cutting out the tongue of one of her subordinates for failure, and leaving a note in his mouth for us to read so that’s nice /s. If she is playable I hope she’s also a creepy type who is unapologetically a villain too
Additionally there is no 10th harbinger I’m pretty sure. It will be interesting to see if that position becomes filled in the future. Most all these characters are pretty popular tho so I don’t see a reason HoYo wouldn’t capitalize on making them playable at some point.
Let me know if I forgot anything. I’m currently at work slaving to capitalism so my brain is only so functional lol

My review of the FNAF movie, with absolutely Zero knowledge of The Lore
the special effects go hard in this one. apparently those are real puppets so that's pretty rad
if his last name isn't Afton what was the goddamn point of dancing around saying it like that. even I know that Michael Afton has some kind of significance like come on that's just mean. it's because you wanted to hint at a romance with the police girl isn't it
as a horror movie this was a little disappointing because they just kind of brushed over all the aspects that make the concept y'know. horrific. yeah there are kids corpses inside there but don't worry we're going to beat springtrap with the power of Friendship :)))
(addendum to the previous: archive 81 and red valley might have desensitized me to gore more than I thought, because after listening to very graphic audio only depictions of a man being freezer-liquefied and the entire ordeal that is Dan's tape-recorder-ication, nothing much seems That Bad)
there's a lot of plot holes here and I'll willingly ignore most of them because this one doesn't seem like a movie you watch for the plot, but it really bugs me that there's no way Mike should've known the drawing thing would work. We, the audience, know because we saw her cross out his face in every drawing, but he never saw that so it's a hell of a leap to take
also don't enjoy how the whole "what's-her-name was working with William Afton the whole time!!!" reveal is never actually addressed because of the way they did that. like, seriously absolutely no reaction to the knowledge that she was meant to set you up to die the whole time???? Just gonna sideline her at the end there and deny us any sense of closure on her storyline???
You can feel the Stranger Things influence on some of these scenes like a physical cloud over the movie
the cinematography is good in this also. Visually it's a great movie. Cool lighting going on here
Also had a pathetic guy covered in blood at the end so that scores some points
the animatronics were pretty well done in that when they're being mostly innocent is when they're at their scariest because you're just waiting for them to snap. and that when they're "nonthreatening" they move more clunky and then they suddenly get a lot more agile when it's time for Violence. that was spooky
Diagnosis: 'tis a movie. it's cool that the animatronics were practical effects. plot makes minimal sense but it's okay we all know that's not what you're here for

headcanons from mania🔥🔥 (take two because tumblr sucks ass)
- you wear granny glasses
- you live in a really nice house with a fireplace and a stack of firewood always next to it and a bunch of blankets
- you like hot cocoa
- your job is like. Corporate. but also cool. not exactly a dream artistic job but the closest you’ve got and you like it a lot and takes up a lot of your time. Also seasonal. But that’s basically canon. I’ll never figure it out
- you have like. A Lot of books on one hugeeeeee shelf. you’d invest in a library like room if you had the space but you don’t so it’s alllll on one shelf
- you have a warm palette like wardrobe. millennial fashion sense but not necessarily millennial yourself
- you’re like. Fourty (I’m sorry if this is egregiously wrong)
- infodumping queen literally Everywhere. no restraint
- blogs from their bed with a patterned blanket over your leg, a cat next to you, and your busted laptop on said lap (got the laptop fact from your comment on burn fast burn bright a superrrrrr long time ago, but I do remember it. top ten comment ever FR!!!)
- your fic notebooks are full of notes and lore we’ll never see in your fics/universes and I would probably kill people to get my hands on it and read it all with fresh eyes
- we’ve never gotten your pronouns or gender . that is 100% valid but I’ve Wondered. I’m thinking a she/they, but I stick to they/them to be safe, I hope that isn’t too presumptuous of me
- not exactly a hc but wherever the name calli came from. is that your real name or a Username thing. I remember tentatively using it a Long Time Ago, and it just caught on. am I responsible for that. I don’t know and I’m too scared to find out. Tell Me though
I did not reread this but yeah. you don’t have to respond to everything but now that it’s been prompted I’m Thinking About it. also hi. I’m glad you’re okay!!! soooo much stuff has changed but I’m so glad you’re still here no matter how sappy or weird that sounds. A good luck on ur school year fic!!! :)
Sorry for the late reply; I’ve been sick as a dog, among other issues. On the mend now, though, so….
you wear granny glasses
Not really, at least based on the results I got when I googled “granny glasses.” They are sort of soft-cornerned rectangles in dark brown plastic, with just the faintest hint of a proto-cat’s-eye on the top corners.
you live in a really nice house with a fireplace and a stack of firewood always next to it and a bunch of blankets
It’s not a particularly nice house, but we do have a wood-burning stove for heat in the living room, and we definitely have a lot of blankets. Think of the residential portions of the Mystery Shack, without any of the big interesting rooms and all on one floor, and you'll probably have a good idea what it looks like. The 70s made a more lasting impression on the decor here than the 80s did, though.
you like hot cocoa
This is accurate.
your job is like. Corporate. but also cool. not exactly a dream artistic job but the closest you’ve got and you like it a lot and takes up a lot of your time. Also seasonal. But that’s basically canon. I’ll never figure it out
Basically, if it involves school tests, I’m your girl, and I therefore work insane hours from February to June and then assignments are more sporadic for the rest of the year. As for whether or not I like it...It’s unexciting, but that’s what I was looking for in a job, and I wouldn’t say I dislike it. I get to work from home (very important now that my grandmother can’t stay by herself for long periods anymore), and my work days take the form of “someone writes a list of tasks, will leave me alone while I work on it, and will give me a reward for ticking all the boxes in a timely fashion.” I’ve always liked that format, with results ranging from “I was good at being a student, so much so that I actually enjoyed taking standardized tests” to “also Gardenscapes and Letter Soup, between them, ate my life over Christmas this year, while I was too sick to read and needed something to fill the hours until it got late enough to decently take the PM cough syrup and go to sleep.” It produces a mental state that’s (relatively) focused but also fairly unemotional, which is a nice break from even the pleasanter forms of ADHD brain-chaos. Sometimes the flurry of ideas is a lot of fun, but sometimes you just want a rest, you know?
you have like. A Lot of books on one hugeeeeee shelf. you’d invest in a library like room if you had the space but you don’t so it’s alllll on one shelf
I wish it would still fit in one shelf, even after creating three rows of books per shelf, but alas – about ten years ago, I discovered the joy of the Friends of the Library sale and it’s Fill-A-Bag Sunday. Cram as many books as you can manage into a paper bag and pay ten dollars for the lot. Suffice it to say I have a lot more books than I would otherwise. My bedroom no longer has anything even vaguely resembling “wall space,” and I’ve spilled over into the living room and the General Storage Room...it’s not quite as bad as it sounds, since these rooms are all very small, but it really has gotten a bit silly no matter how I slice it.
you have a warm palette like wardrobe. millennial fashion sense but not necessarily millennial yourself
Based on what I got from the Google - I can work with millennial tops, the alleged millennial trousers are a hard ‘no’ for me. I much prefer gen Z’s adoption of wide-legged trousers, both because I think I look better in them and because I find them much, much more comfortable, at least as long as the waist is fitted.
As for color palettes...I think my thing is more ‘bright’ or ‘saturated’ than warm or cool? It should not really work for someone as fair-cool as me (I have trouble finding foundation colors to match sometimes), but I think I look as good in orange and red as I do in turquoise and rose. My one thing is, I can pull off light shades of blue or yellow, but they have to be pretty saturated, if that makes any sense. Anything too grey-looking or faded/washed out-looking or dusty-looking just...doesn’t work. At all. At least in my opinion, and “is this reasonably comfortable?” and “do I think this looks nice?” are my main/often only considerations when it comes to all things sartorial.
you’re like. Fourty (I’m sorry if this is egregiously wrong)
Eh, 33, 40, same difference. Or at least less than a decade’s worth of difference, anyway ;)
infodumping queen literally Everywhere. no restraint
This is accurate and I wear that crown with pride, though I do understand why people can get annoyed when I get too close to speaking in five-paragraph essays, lol.
blogs from their bed with a patterned blanket over your leg, a cat next to you, and your busted laptop on said lap (got the laptop fact from your comment on burn fast burn bright a superrrrrr long time ago, but I do remember it. top ten comment ever FR!!!)
This is pretty accurate. It’s either that setup with my laptop or that setup with my phone. Also, yay memorable comments!
your fic notebooks are full of notes and lore we’ll never see in your fics/universes and I would probably kill people to get my hands on it and read it all with fresh eyes
This might be the headcanon of yours that’s furthest off the mark! Most of the lore is both ultimately info-dumped into the story (or at least its footnotes) and is mostly kept all in my head. FWJB Parts I and II are the only things I ever wrote that had even a semblance of an outline.
we’ve never gotten your pronouns or gender . that is 100% valid but I’ve Wondered. I’m thinking a she/they, but I stick to they/them to be safe, I hope that isn’t too presumptuous of me
Oh, yeah, sorry about that – I’m a she/her. Not presumptuous of you at all.
not exactly a hc but wherever the name calli came from. is that your real name or a Username thing. I remember tentatively using it a Long Time Ago, and it just caught on. am I responsible for that. I don’t know and I’m too scared to find out. Tell Me though
I’m not sure if you were the very first to dub me Calli, but I do seem to recall you were at least an early adopter. You very well could have been the first. It’s just from the username, though, and the username is a result of me playing with word roots while half-asleep one night during the period where - despite how out of practice I was, and how terrible I've always been at coming up with usernames - I was starting to seriously consider making an AO3 account and actually writing the GF fics percolating in my brain…Long story still kinda long, I stuck a bit of this and a bit of that together, then swapped out some letters to make it flow smoothly/look like a word, and like a word I’d find aesthetically pleasing to look at.
also hi. I’m glad you’re okay!!! soooo much stuff has changed but I’m so glad you’re still here no matter how sappy or weird that sounds.
Aww, you’re sweet. Good to ‘see’ you, too, especially since Christmas gift cards mean I can probably finally read <i>Good Omens</i> at some point in the near future and thus comprehend that half of your fics!

I absolutely think if she infected him with archdemon-ness he's gonna do the coldly pissed off thing a lot of neurodivergent folks do. He seems to have very strong feelings about the taint and grey wardens. After the meltdown of 'holy shit she fucking betrayed me?'
But then, he might even be used to that.
There's a line somewhere where Solas says something about being able to sculpt 'her' face or jawline or something from memory. I think it's when he's talking to Cole and Inky? Ugh. I used to be so much better at keeping details like this straight. Covid fucked my brain up.
Lolz, maybe I should invest in a corkboard and miles of red string 😅.
I don't think anyone knows who that 'her' is. (I still have two more books to read, so I may be missing stuff.) Oh, wait, was it part of the Faded for Her quest, maybe? It's just a casual feeling comment, but it could reference more. He sounds particularly bitter when he says it.
And he speaks about betrayal as if he knows it intimately. 'Betrayal is always worse'. What if it's a personal betrayal vs how the Evanuris betrayed Mythal? Or even a history of being personally betrayed? Sometimes when you're abused a lot, you even convince yourself it's not that bad, when yes, it really really is that bad. Maybe they're doing something like that? We know for fact that Flemythal was an abusive mom to Morrigan, so it would track.
The taint cure is one of those weird maybe it exists maybe it doesn't things. It would certainly be a fun 'we need to research this heavily' mechanic in DA:DW. Oooh, and then maybe we'd get Dagna time again? I love her.
Fiona says in Inquisition something like 'it slid off me'? I think in The Calling, she said 'it left her'? implying it wasn't intentional. There's hints that the Therin bloodline may be immune or somehow able to withstand the taint better than average. So I always considered it possible that because she was pregnant with Alistair, the pregnancy cured her taint. (The reason why that might be is in the comic where Alistair buddies up with Varric and Isabela.) And there's a quest in DAO where you can 'treat' a mabari who swallowed darkspawn blood. (But Alistair being a warden might screw that theory too 🤣.)
And depending on player choice, the DAO DLC about the reclaimed warden base has a potential research thing there relating to the blight. (Don't want to spoil it.)
And yeah, Mythal seems like she's similar to Solas in that he plans things many moves ahead (he'd be a right bitch to play in chess 😅), so she very well could have planned it all. Her character in DAO outright says she 'nudges' things (things being world events) when necessary.
But necessary for what and for whom? Obviously Mythal.
I wonder if she's been working to bring the veil down for the ages Solas lingered in uthenera? That would be cool, and explain why the veil is so damned tattered.
If you haven't read this post on Dumped, Drunk, and Dalish, it's a fun one (entire site is awesome).
I honestly don't want them to nerf him too much. He'd have to depower a bit to be playable, unless they intend him to be like a 'release the secret weapon' type character.
I just don't really like it when they nerf characters too much. It makes them feel less fun for me. (My particular character who they nerfed too much IMHO is Childe in Genshin Impact.)
And yeah, all of this is just pure speculation based on game lore, but it’s so much fun to indulge my brain when it fixates on a story/world like this. The writers at Bioware are actually decent to excellent (Weekes being the excellent). I can't say that about the editors, but the writing is often pretty solid.
I don't honestly know which direction they're going to go, but I can hope to be able to save that stubborn wolf. And gods, I desperately want to have a positive Solavellan outcome option.
'Cause unless saving his ass is an option, I'm not buying the game.
Ugh I can’t not theorize. I’ve been at it non stop. Once a story catches my interest my brain just going into hyper speed trying to figure out how the writers (if they do a good job) will bring all of their themes, hints, etc to fruition. All I’m missing is a cork board, pins, and miles of red string.
What’s super exciting this time is I’m actually dealing with a property where the writers are….good? I’m so used to being disappointed when fan theories (often my own) turn out to be much better than the canon, but I don’t see that happening here. Weekes is clearly a masterful writer and knows how to build up to a satisfying twist.
Because you just know another twist is coming. Solas, despite everything, is just too soft hearted to make a convincing final boss. It couldn’t be more obvious that being The Dreadwolf and putting aside his own conscience takes every ounce of energy he has. Eventually he’ll have his breaking point and that’s when we’ll find out who our true villain is.
It’s Mythal. I’ll eat my damn hat if it isn’t. She’s either not the person Solas remembers, or maybe she never was. In either case, there’s been plenty of clues both in DAI and in subsequent materials (specifically Tevinter Knights) to imply that there’s something else going on here.
We keep seeing imagery of the Dreadwolf as a mutant abomination that is part wolf and part dragon. It’s easy to point to the end credit scene of DAI and say “well yeah he fused with Mythal who is a dragon” and sure it looked that way…but is that actually what happened?
We saw Flemeth part with some form of magical energy before Solas arrived. We also know that she’d taken the soul of Uthemiel from Kieran. Uthemiel happens to be a dragon, or was until he was tainted and became an Archdemon.
Archdemons can control Darkspawn. And taking a Darkspawn army past the Veil to enact vengeance upon the Evanuris sees like something Flemeth would do. But that doesn’t seem like something Solas would want. His agenda has always been to fix his past mistakes and tear down the Veil for the greater good. He doesn’t seem that fond of Darkspawn, in fact he was pretty pissed at the Wardens for screwing around with them.
Where I’m going with this, is I think it’s entirely possible Solas is being used. He may have unwittingly fused himself with an Archdemon, assuming it was the essence of Mythal. The real plan, now that plan A failed, might be turning him into an Archdemon so Flemeth/Mythal can use him to start another blight and wield the darkspawn. Corypheus managed to mind control an Archdemon, so clearly it can be done.
And if that’s the case, then ooooooh boy.
Poor Solas.
OMG. I missed this one and I'm so glad I finally found it!
What a fascinating idea. Holy shitballs.
Okay, so I just restarted DAO, I'll be on the lookout through these playthroughs (I'm doing DA2 next, then probably DAI again, because I'm an utter sucker for lore) for hints about all that!
I thought the whole point of the dark ritual w/Morrigan was to purify Urthemiel's 'soul' through being born as an innocent child. But what if that didn't work?
But then, wouldn't Kieran have shown signs of taint? Hmmm. Maybe not, given it's just the soul?
I'm still not convinced that Flemythal parted with any kind of energy in that scene. BUT if she did... well, she's pulled the whole 'soul piece recovery schtick' before. So if it was energy or a soul, it could've been hers. Leaving just Urthemiel. Which would very possibly warp Solas into a dragon/wolf thing. And Mythal is very used to Solas going along with what she wants. So it feels like something she wouldn't think twice about. She uses Morrigan too, and Kieran, so it’s definitely something she's used to doing.
I have a strong feeling Solas is indeed being used. And has been since he was 'born' from the fade. There's a lot of hints to his resignation, nay, even belief that it's right that Mythal used him. (This is... common, in abuse survivors, FWIW.)
But I believe it's canon that his forehead scar came from when he burnt off Mythal's Vallaslin? I have to see if I can find that again. I can't remember where I read it.
I think Mythal will be rather unpleasantly surprised in the spine Solas has developed since her 'murder'. He doesn't seem at all likely to me to be all 'hey! My enslaver is back! Let me just get my slave brands again'. Now, if he were still truly alone, he might just cave into it because man, does Solas have some pretty massive Mythal issues. Not sure if he regards her as his mom or something else or a mix of things, urk.
BUT he's not actually truly alone anymore is he? No matter how hard he tries to be. A Romanced Lavellan can tell him "Var lath vir suledin" which translates sorta, into "Our - love - way/path - endure/strength to withstand loss."
So he knows he's not alone. That inky will absolutely go to the mat for him. He has actual friends, too. He said Bull has him, if you don't betray Bull w/the Chargers. Solas doesn't strike me as someone to say that lightly.
So, he also knows he has friends, too.
I think, if Mythal actually is the big bad (kinda hoping for this tbh) she's gonna have a rather rude awakening when it comes to Solas. Who, from all I can tell, has always willingly served her whims. Because she was 'the best of them' doesn't mean she was actually good.
I talked about how he's heavily neurodivergent coded before, and we're generally loyal to a fault, which Solas very much shows.
But we do also often, eventually, reach a 'no more' point. After which, we'll absolutely close all those doors we'd previously left open.
If Solas acts the way I suspect he might, he'd then use everything he knows about Mythal and the Evanuris to help the game protag (I still wish I could just carry my inky over) defeat the buggers.
But what would it take for him to finally reach that point with Mythal? Mommy issues are soooo hard to deal with in therapy because it's so damned easy to backslide.
Hurting Inky? Doing something that will destroy the fade (like marching a darkspawn army into it)? Making him betray all of his followers who truly believe in him and his goals of freeing enslaved elves?
Solas deeply believes that slavery is wrong. In a way that makes me think he was actually enslaved at one point. Obviously to Mythal.
Oh, fuck me. What an amazing story they could tell about the whole 'but there were good slave owners' bullshit nonsense some people like to spout.
Of course, I still really wish Bioware would tell a story with a disabled protag. Which the end of Inquisition really would set up nicely. But given their shit disability rep, I know not to hold my breath over that.

How do you think Nia’s powers work? Do they make her tired or drowsy when she uses them for long periods of time? Do they not work well when she doesn’t get enough sleep? And just to throw some Brainia in here what would be his reaction if her powers didn’t work as well because she hadn’t gotten much sleep?
Okay, so I'm going to use this ask as a bit of an excuse to explore some lore we got from the Flash so bear with me here.
I actually think that the drowsy aspect of Nia's powers is a natural part of her gift. From quite early on, we've seen Nia struggle to stay in control of her life while working with a very inconveniencing set of powers that can lead her to fall asleep at any moment. The Flash gives us more insight into this in that Nia learns that while she's discovered how to do a lot with her ability, she'd been blocking herself out of going any further by refusing to give up control to her powers. She was choosing to view the origin of the Dreamer power as a villain she had to defeat somehow because the alternative would mean giving up the control she'd been using to balance her powers with the normal every day. In that way, I agree that it's when Nia refuses to sleep that problems start occurring.
We see her forced into a dream at the start of the episode while she's at a coffee shop which again hints that she's been trying to stay awake - i.e tried to stay in control - but by doing that, she's not listening to what her dreams are trying to tell her. This has been a running problem for Nia since her initial introduction in Supergirl and although she does start listening to her dreams by the final season, she still can't let go of trying to stay in control of when her visions take over. She starts choosing when to go into vision states to search the future and in that way, claims her control, which she likely thinks means the same as growing in her power. But the beauty of Naltorian powers is in the unpredictable nature of them.
In the Flash, Nia learns to relinquish her control of the situation and that allows her to see far back into the history of her powers, all the way to the first Dreamer who she can now interact with and will act as her guide to teach her more about her powers. (Which is all very cool and I wish wish wish we could see more of.) I actually wonder if Nia's dependency on caffeine would go down now she's learning to give into her powers when they call out to her?
But yes, I do think that Nia being drowsy and giving her powers access would if anything show she's using them healthily. It's when she's very clearly using caffeine or other stimulants to stay awake that problems arise and her powers would likely grow more unstable the longer she tries to keep awake.
Brainy of course knows quite a lot about Naltorian powers from Nura and learns even more from Nia, so I imagine he knows the signs very well. Whenever Nia's crunching to get an article finished or gets stressed out with her powers and tries to avoid them, her dependency on coffee skyrockets and that's when Brainy normally steps in.
I think at times Nia only needs a gentle reminder that she has to rest, other times Brainy might need to pull out the offer of a massage or even just give her some space, but not long after that she'll finally fall into a doze. Sometimes she falls asleep right on Brainy's shoulder, but even if she doesn't he'll always make sure she's tucked up in a comfortable position before letting her rest soundly.

4 Lords Raise Rose AU Ideas
Not a single person asked for this, but that other post where I talk about the 4 lords adopting Rose but still technically being terrible people got way more popular than I expected it to, so, with about 6 shots of tequila in my system and a terrible urge to spit my thoughts out for all the internet to see and judge, I’ve decided to make a follow up post. Here’s how I think the 4 lords would take care of Rose in the event they rebelled against Mother Miranda and decided to raise Rose as their own instead, but like under the cut after a little bit cuz i accidentally went way too fucking hard with this and I don’t want ppl to get mad at me for making them scroll for an hour to get past this post:
First and foremost, I think they’d do it in stages, and what I mean by this is that Rose would essentially be given to a specific Lord for some period of her life, like a couple years, and then when she was deemed old or strong or annoying enough, she’d be moved to a different lord for some period of time and so on and so forth. They would do this because a) they all live in different areas and have shit to do so it’s easier to have Rose live with one lord at a time and then the other lords can just go visit her there from time to time, rather than try to work out a weekly custody schedule which we all know Alcina and Karl would NEVER be able to agree on so let’s not even bother, and b) because each lord would have either some skill or set of knowledge that would make them the best for caring for Rose at that specific point in her life. This way, all the lords have a (somewhat) equal chance to be a part of Rose’s life and teach her something while she’s with them. So with all that in mind now, let’s get down to who would have Rose and at what point in her life.
1. Starting off with infant Rose, I think she’d end up with the Dimitrescu’s for the first few years of her life, and the reason why I think this is because... well, Alcina IS already a mother to 3 girls, and while we don’t know a terrible amount about Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela’s “upbringing” under Alcina, we can gleam and theorize from her notes that, despite their fully grown bodies, the girls could very well have started out with the mental and physical capabilities of infants, and thus needed to be cared for and brought up in a similar manner as infants or children until they reached a certain point where they could officially be considered adults in mentality and ability, not just in physical appearance. So with this in mind, it’s entirely possible that Alcina could have at least some vague idea of how to care for an infant child through her experiences with the bug sisters; perhaps there’s some gaps in her knowledge, but if nothing else I imagine Alcina would be an infant Rose’s best shot at surviving infancy if only because the other 3 are so incompetent on how to care for a baby that Alcina looks like an expert in comparison. Not to mention that, of the possible locations for an infant to be raised, I do genuinely think that castle Dimitrescu would be the safest place for Rose to be kept during this vulnerable part of her life. Not only that but if Alcina has actually come to care for Rose as though she were one of her own daughters, then she would absolutely spoil Rose rotten with all the nicest clothes and fanciest toys, things that a small infant wouldnt be able to appreciate but would show that she’s loved and cared for nonetheless, and don’t even get me started on the bug sisters, I could see them fawning over Rose for hours on end, playing with her, singing to her, telling her stories of all the man-things they’ve gotten to play with today, and so much more. Overall, Rose would just be the most spoiled and pampered little baby with the Dimitrescus and there’s no changing my mind about this. The only thing I’m struggling to wrap my head around is how they’d feed her, since I doubt a small infant would take very well to blood wine and human flesh. I suppose it wouldn’t be terribly outrageous for them to hire a wet nurse/nanny to care for Rose during the day while the other Dimitrescus go about their daily duties, and when Rose is finally old enough to be introduced to solid food (I.e. fried human flesh cubes) they could do what they always do and turn the nurse into wine too, I guess. It’s not a solid idea but it’s more plausible than anything else I thought of so it’ll work!
2. After spending about 3 years with the Dimitrescus, Rose would then be moved to the Beneviento house. Now, If u don’t know anything about 3 year olds, then you’re probably ignorant to the fact that they are some of the craftiest, sneakiest, and most coniving groups of people to exist on this planet. 3 year olds are masters at getting into and touching just about anything and everything u don’t want them to touch, and worst of all, u won’t realize what they’re doing until they’ve already done it and left a huge mess behind, so while the Dimitrescus love and adore Rose dearly, they know it’s sadly time to hand her over when they find her sitting on top of a pile of dead bodies playing with a metal scythe in the dungeons. Once Rose is dropped off at the Beneviento house, I imagine Donna is her usual stoic self the first few weeks Rose is with her. She’s not cold or distant necessarily, in fact she’s quite happy that it’s finally her turn with precious baby Rose, but Donna isn’t exactly known for being outwardly expressive herself (and even Angie isn’t being quite as forward as she normally is), so things are quiet and peaceful for the first little while that Rose is under her care. It’s not until Rose takes an interest in her doll Angie, and more importantly the things that Donna can do with Angie, that things really start getting fun. By the end of Rose’s first month in the Beneviento house she and Donna are the best of friends and often spend their days either playing dress up and make pretend with Donna’s extensive doll collection, or playing elaborate games of cat and mouse, where Donna will set up lots of puzzles throughout the house for Rose to find and solve (I.e. rose has to match her dress to the doll with the same one as her to find a map telling her which kitchen cabinet Donna hid the chocolate in, or something like that), but be careful little Rose, Angie has been trying to get her hands on that chocolate all day, and if u take too long, she’ll find the map first and eat all the chocolate without saving you a single piece. Just silly little puzzles with enough at stake to engage the mind of a curious 3 year old, but never enough to put rose in any actual danger. Donna is nothing if not a watchful caretaker, so she makes sure she has sight of Rose at all times, occasionally giving her a hint if she’s struggling, and perhaps occasionally making things harder if that day’s puzzle is proving too easy for her. Overall, Rose’s time with Donna, while not as grand and luxurious as the Dimitrescus, was still a fun and enriching experience for the young girl, and there’s nobody in this world who thinks that Donna’s scar is cool more than Rose.
3. After another 3 years with Donna, Rose is now 6 years old and officially far too good at puzzle solving for Donna to keep up with. No matter what she tries or how hard she makes it, Rose just keeps blazing through the puzzles at an almost alarming rate, making it clear that Rose is desperately in need of not only a change in scenery, but also a change in education, and this is where Salvatore finally comes in. After leaving the Beneviento house, I think the next logical place for Rose to stay would be with Salvatore, who, with lore hinting at him perhaps being a scholarly man of some kind, would basically act as her elementary school teacher throughout the duration of her stay. Now, to be fair, Rose could have gone to Heisenburg’s factory, but Heisenberg outright refused to take her and the other 3 lords decide that the factory is simply too dangerous for Rose rn, who thus far hasn’t shown any signs of being anything other than a normal human girl with no noticeable abilities (save for a smart mouth and a terrifying habit of popping up when least expected, a habit she mostly uses to mess with Heisenberg, much to his disdain and Lady Dimitrescu’s delight), so it is to the mutant fish man’s unimaginable delight that he is unanimously voted Roses next caretaker, and the one responsible for her basic education. Despite his initial excitement however, when Rose is finally dropped off at the windmills by Donna, Salvatore realizes that he’s not 100% sure what to do with Rose now that he has her. He’d like to get started on her education right away but at the same time he’s so fearful of Rose hating him because of his disgusting appearance that he kind of just... avoids her entirely at first. He’s never far away from the little girl and is always ready to jump to her rescue should she need it, but other than that Salvatore seldom allows himself to be seen for the first month that Rose is with him, the only sign of him still being around being the platefuls of food that mysteriously appear in Rose’s room 3 times a day, as well as the occasional shiny trinket Salvatore found and thought Rose would like. At first, rose doesn’t seem to mind being left entirely to her own devices, but after every stone, log, and rotting fish corpse within 5 miles of the lake has been turned over and thoroughly examined, Rose decides she’s had quite enough of her Uncle Sal ignoring her, prompting the headstrong little girl to go looking for him herself. She finds Salvatore hiding underneath a patch of floating algae not far away from where she was playing and all but demands that the mutant man come out of the water and give her something to do or she’d tell Mother on him. Salvatore, shocked by the small child’s fearlessly blunt request, hesitates, not wanting to frighten Rose, but ultimately relents, crawling out of the water and timidly suggesting that he teach her how to read and write. Rose quickly agrees, seeming totally unbothered by Salvatore’s grotesque appearance, and the two quickly move to the schoolroom that had been set up specifically for Rose, where Salvatore spends hours upon hours a day teaching Rose everything he knows, filling the little girl’s head up first with the basics, letters and words, then numbers and simple equations, followed later by historical dates and time periods, algebraic formulas, and classic literature analysis, then biology, chemistry, physics, astrology, calculus, ecology, and so much more. Basically, anything there is to know, Salvatore knows at least something about it and he’ll make sure that Rose knows about it too. In the 3 years Rose spends with Salvatore she goes from already sharp as a whip, to being smarter than most adults even, and Salvatore takes immense pride in how intelligent and knowledgable Rose becomes thanks to his surprisingly effective teaching style. Overall, as a caretaker, Salvatore is pretty weird and doubts himself a lot, but Rose thinks he’s funny and loves learning from him so they get along very well and she loves him very dearly! He probs teaches her to swim and fish too.
4. So another 3 years come and go with incredible speed, and its with great sadness on Salvatore’s part that Heisenberg finally comes banging on the fish man’s door, all but demanding that he now be given his turn with Rose. Now, personally, I can see several different arguments being raised by the other 3 lords over why its a terrible idea to let a 9 year old anywhere near Heisenberg, much less be given into his care fully. After about 9 years of seeing his siblings paling around with the constantly growing child, and looking like theyre having the time of their lives all the while, however, Karl decides that perhaps there’s more to this little girl than he originally thought, and, with his interest now piqued (or at the very least looking forward to pissing the other 3 off for entertainment purposes), that its only fair that he be given a turn with her now too, seeing as how he’s the only one who hasn’t been given the chance to be her caretaker yet. This naturally does NOT go over well with the other 3 lords. Alcina all but threatens to kill Karl should he step so much as within 10 ft of Rose, while Donna pipes up and demands to know what his sudden interest in Rose is. Even Salvatore, who is quick to flinch away from direct conflict, goes as far as to harshly point out the plethora of times Karl had outright denied their previous attempts to get him to engage with Rose, so why on earth would they hand her over to him now when he’s previously shown to have absolutely no interest in her? After a long spout of yelling between the 4 siblings, an agreement is reached, wherein Rose herself will be given the chance to decide whether she wants to go with Heisenberg, or whether she’ll return to one of the other 3 lords for the time being. It is to Alcina, Donna, and Salvatore’s absolute horror however, that Rose enthusiastically agrees to go with her Uncle Karl to live in his factory, and with the deal already set, the other lords can do nothing to stop her from going. The trip to drop off Rose at heisenberg’s factory is a long and arduous one, especially for Salvatore, who sobs the whole way there about Rose forgetting about him despite the young girl’s insistence that she’d visit. The first thing Karl does after officially having Rose handed over to him, is give her an extensive list of all the places in the factory in which she is under no circumstances permitted to enter without his permission (which basically only leaves the control room and the old storage closet that acts as her bedroom as viable places for Rose to go and explore). The second thing Karl does is dump her in her new storage closet bedroom and then hightail it for his workshop to work on whatever sick and twisted amalgamation he’s got cooked up this time around. At first, Rose isn’t terribly bothered by this, since she’s used to having something of an “adjustment period” when she’s with a new caretaker, but unfortunately for her, this adjustment period lasts a hell of a lot longer than the others did, and by the time 3 months of almost no meaningful contact with Karl, Rose decides to take matters into her own hands and ascends into the depths of the factory despite the express orders not to do so. Now, going back to the idea that the 4 lords are still pretty terrible people, I doubt Rose has been kept ignorant to the less savory aspects of her caretaker’s lives, and tbh she probably doesn’t think anything of the fact that the Dimitrescus makes wine out of the blood of virgin women or that Salvatore still does cadou experiments (and had her help on occasion), but I imagine even Rose would find the projects Karl works on to be at least a little
4, cont. gruesome and horrifying in nature, especially since Heisenberg is the one she knows the least about. However, instead of turning Rose away from Heisenberg, these terrifying metal creatures she sees locked up only spark her already insatiable curiosity, and by the time she finally tracks Karl down, Rose is all but trembling to learn more about this horrifyingly fascinating metal world. Unfortunately, Karl is not nearly as happy to see Rose as Rose is to see him, and the engineer all but grabs Rose by the scruff of her neck and drags her back up to the control room, yelling and screaming at her all the while about how she was explicitly instructed not to enter these parts of the factory without his permission. Needless to say that Rose does not enjoy this treatment and immediately lashes out, half out of anger and half out of confusion as to why Karl was treating her like this. He was the one who wanted her here in the first place, so why the hell was he just ignoring her now? It didn’t make any sense and it was starting to piss Rose off, so naturally the only thing left for her to do in order to solve this complicated situation would be to continue to disobey Karl until he either gave up and sent her back to one of the other lords, or finally payed some damn attention to her for once. So that’s exactly what she did. Every single day Rose left her room (which Karl kept telling himself he needed to put a lock on, but never did cuz he’s an idiot) and descended down into the depths of the factory looking for something ogle at or tinker with, and every single day Karl would track her down wherever she’d managed to get to and throw her back upstairs threatening to feed her to the lycans if she did it again. This incredibly frustrating cycle continued on for the better part of the next month or so, finally coming to a head when Rose managed to wander into the part of the factory where the... less than successful experiments got put whenever Karl doesn’t have any further use for them but is feeling too lazy to kill them off himself. Long story short, Rose runs into a Sturm that chases her around the factory, causing all manner of mayhem and destruction, and would have torn her to ribbons had it not been for Karl, who jumped in at the last second and was able to fend the damn thing off long enough for Rose to get the ever living fuck out and back up to the control room where it’s safe. There’s a lot of loud noises and explosions coming from deep within the factory that last for what feels like an eternity, but Rose doesn’t dare venture out again until everything has gone eerily quiet and a deep sense of worry has settled in the pit of her stomach over what had become of her latest caretaker. Turns out the Sturm had recognized its creator and, after watching its initial prey escape because of said creator, quickly decided that it fucking hated Karl with every fiber of its being and wanted him dead if it was the last thing it’s propellers did. Now, we all know that Karl is a big strong boy who’s more than capable of handling his own creations and taking down strong enemies, but the Sturm is a creation that even he struggles to control on good days and today is decidedly not a good day so not only does Karl not have the slightest bit of control over the death machine trying to kill him, but its also a lot stronger than Karl initially thought and apparently not picky about the method which causes Karl’s death, which is evidenced by the nearly dead Sturm ramming itself into a power generator as a final act of defiance and nearly blowing up the whole factory and everybody inside. Heisenberg is able to contain the explosion somehow but not without considerable damage to himself first. Rose is, naturally, quite horrified to find Karl passed out in the elevator that had taken him up from the lower levels of the factory where the explosion was, skin burnt nearly to a crisp in certain areas and blood pooling from just about every part of him, and immediately heads over to try and help her injured caretaker.
4, cont. again cuz I physically can’t stop myself. Now, I imagine that any normal 9 year old probably wouldnt be able to handle this sort of situation in any meaningful way, but i think we can all agree that Rose is the furthest thing from normal (especially considering who raised her) and has probably seen enough blood and gore to not be terribly freaked out by it, but this is where things get a little speculative because we don’t know what Rose’s powers are exactly but we do know from the final cutscene that she does have them, perhaps even a plethora of abilities, and I like to think that some of those powers are related to Ethan’s superhuman healing capabilities, but unlike Ethan however, who from what we’ve seen could only heal himself, Rose can actually heal other people (tho this isn’t something she’s aware of at this point in time). The second the elevator door opens to reveal, what looks to be, a half-dead Karl slumped over in the corner, Rose panics and runs to him, doing everything she can think of save for maybe grabbing him by the collar or slapping him across the face, to try and get Karl to wake up, except nothing works, he wont wake up no matter how hard Rose tries and i imagine this must be incredibly distressing for Rose who never intended for something like this to happen or for her caretaker to die because he had to protect her even tho he told her not to go down there because its dangerous and anything down there WOULD kill her if given the opportunity. Anyways Rose is now full on sobbing on top of Karl like only a 9 year old who just discovered that her actions have consequences can, but unbeknownst to her (and technically Karl cuz he’s a little busy bleeding out all over the floor) Karl’s wounds are slowly beginning to close, the burns on his face and hands shift from a bright red to a dark brown before crusting over and flaking off, and even his breathing, which had been labored and inconsistent at first, began to level out slightly. Karl woke up not long after that and was surprised to find that a) he was still alive, which was cool, b) he was injured but not in indescribable pain, also cool, and c) there was a literal sobbing child all but sitting on top of him, which is definitely not something Karl was expecting but he supposed he’s been met with worse things upon waking up after almost dying so why question it. After taking a moment to gather their bearings, the two return to the safer parts of the factory to rest and recover and for the most part this little incident of their’s goes largely unspoken, with Rose not exactly in the mood to talk about how her disobedience nearly got herself and Karl killed, and Karl being too fucking tired to go after her about it, especially since she seems to have learned her lesson. The only downside to this whole thing is that now Karl has a busted up fuckin leg thats gonna take an eternity to heal even for him, and with so much work to still do he’s more or less forced to drag Rose around the factory and use her like the annoying assistant he never wanted (except he did want her, thats how this whole fucking mess started, you lug), except that Rose, who is more than used to playing lab assistant from her time with Salvatore, quickly proves to be a rather capable and handy person to have around, if only because she knows the difference between a philips and a flathead screwdriver even better than he does. An amicable, if still slightly awkward peace settles over Heisenberg’s factory once Karl starts actively engaging with Rose and giving her something to do on a daily basis, even if its just standing around watching him work and occasionally having her questions about what he’s doing answered. It doesn’t take very long after that for Karl to begin realizing that perhaps throwing a huge tantrum to get Rose to come here only to ditch her upstairs by herself for 3 months might not have been the smartest (or most considerate) thing he’s ever done, and even goes as far as to (kinda) apologize to Rose for being such a dick to her since she arrived.
4, last one i swear. Rose forgives him, though not before adding that she already knew he was an asshole from Alcina, which earns her a halfhearted swipe from Karl that Rose easily dodges with a childish giggle. From that point on their relationship improves astronomically as Karl finally gives in and teaches Rose about about engineering and everything else that goes into making the metal horrors that he’s known for. Karl is shocked at how quickly Rose picks up on the trade, getting to the point where Karl wonders if he should start giving Rose her own projects to work on, but quickly rolls his eyes and groans when he remember that Salvatore was the one responsible for her education up until this point, the mere thought of having to give compliments to that “moronic freak” for giving Rose such a good educational foundation makes him want to vomit despite how secretly impressed he is. Overall, Rose’s time with Heisenberg starts out shaky, very shaky even, but after a bit of disaster and some swallowing of the pride on Karl’s part, they end up growing quite close and have a nice fun Uncle and martass Neice dynamic. They make a good team and Karl does genuinely enjoy having a little assistant around to help him with his projects, even if Rose can sound a bit too much like Alcina on some days for his liking.
5. 3 more years come and go and now Rose is a strong and healthy 12 years old, perhaps riddled with a few more scars and smearings of ash and motor oil across her skin than when she first arrived but still strong and capable nonetheless. Going back to that first statement however, this of course means that it’s time for the other 3 lords to come banging on Karl’s door for a change, all but demanding that Rose be handed back over to them. Karl of course refuses, telling them all to fuck off and that Rose didn’t want a leave the factory, so upon realization that all 4 lords were gathered here with the intention of taking Rose back to live with them indefinitely, a fight immediately breaks out between the 4 siblings, as each one makes their case as to why Rose should be returned to them and not the other 3, which of course none of the 4 lords can come to an agreement about because they ALL want Rose to stay with them. So after another long and pointlessly arduous argument, Alcina finally breaks, proclaiming that they’d be here for all eternity of they didn’t make a decision now, and that, like the first time the 4 siblings argued over whether Rose should go with Heisenberg or return to one of the previous lords, Rose would be the one to decide which of her four caretakers she would return to. The agreement is made reluctantly, mostly on the part of Salvatore, Donna, and Heisenberg, but there was seemingly no other way for them to come to a decision, so it would unfortunately have to be up to Rose to decide which of her 4 caretakers she wants to stay with permanently. Rose is quickly brought before the 4 lords and explained the situation, before being given some time to herself to think and make her final decision. A tense and uneasy silence falls over the 4 lords as they wait for the little girl, who they had shown an uncharacteristic amount of mercy and time and devotion and love in the 12 years since Mother Miranda had brought her to the village with the intention of using her to revive an already lost and long-gone baby that she never would have gotten back no matter how hard she tried. Although they refused to admit it to one another, the lords all secretly knew that Rose had wormed her way into each of their cold, dead hearts, reviving an aspect of their humanity that they’d all thought had been lost ages ago. Rose came to the village bringing with her a wave of death and destruction, and yet throughout her childhood she has brought them nothing but light and life, illuminating their previously dark and desolate existences. The 4 lords loved their Rose very dearly and desperately wanted her to be happy, yet each of them possesses a dark and selfish desire to have Rose pick them over the other 3, to come and live with them forever and fill the hole deep inside them that they never knew needed filling. After a short while, Rose comes back out and stands before her 4 beloved caretakers, looking around nervously as she picks at her fingernails. The silence is thick and heavy as the 4 lords stare at the young girl, waiting with bated breaths for her to give her final verdict. Rose continues to say nothing as tears begin to flow from her eyes, sliding down her cheeks in thick streams as the girl begins to sob, dropping her head and clenching her dress. The 4 lords look between one another in confusion, unsure of what to do with this sudden burst of tears. Rose tearfully admits that she can’t and doesn’t want to choose which of the 4 lords she wants to live with permanently because she loves them all very much and wants to be able to see and live with all of them, like they’ve done thus far. Although the lords detest the idea of having to share Rose with anyone, they reluctantly come to an agreement for the girl’s sake, deciding that they would continue with the arrangement they’ve had thus far, only that Rose would switch between caretakers every 3 months instead of every 3 years, giving rose plenty of opportunities to see each of her caretakers just like she wanted. From then on, Rose continues to live her life
5, cont. growing up and learning more and more from each of her beloved caretakers. Although Rose would likely never know what a normal life looks like, living with 4 criminally insane monsters in the remote mountain village in Romania, it would be impossible to say that she wouldn’t have a happy life despite that. Perhaps its because the girl simply doesn’t know any better, so she doesn’t have the ability to see just how messed up her life and her 4 caretakers really are, but i imagine that Rose probably wouldn’t care very much to learn even if she had the opportunity. She’s a happy little girl living a strange but enjoyable life with the only family she’ll ever need. What more could she possibly ask for?
6. As for how Mother Miranda would play into this whole scenario I’ve just drunkenly spat out, im honestly not 100% sure. Ive seen some people suggesting that MM just kinda chills and lets the lords do what they want with Rose, but tbh I honestly don’t see that happening in this universe. MM would still have been just as crazy and driven to get Eva back as she was in canon, so i doubt she’d willingly standby and let her “false children” take away her one shot of getting her real child back simply because they didn’t want to hurt her, i just don’t personally see that happening. The two most likely scenarios i can come up with is that the Lords either banded together and look Miranda on together, their combined forces being enough to take her down and kill her, OR, Ethan is the one to take down MM like he did in canon but he passes out before he can get to rose, giving the lords (who he hadn’t ended up killing but just escaping from i guess) the opportunity to slide in, grab rose, and hightail it out of there, leaving Ethan’s body to be retrieved by Chris, who, due to not seeing or hearing Rose anywhere, believes that Rose must have been accidentally killed along with MM, which he later tells to Ethan and Mia. Regardless of how MM gets taken out of the picture (or if she’s given room to potentially come back later), the 4 lords retreat with Rose and begin the whole cycle I explained up above, but i did want to briefly address how I saw MM fitting into all of this since she is a vital part of the original story and the biggest obstacle to the lords having anything to do with Rose.
Anyways, that was so much longer than I intended it to be but I had so much fun with it just because it gave me the opportunity to spit some fun ideas and potential plot points out about this cool AU that I like and hope someone does SOMETHING with, please god someone do it, I’d do it myself but i have enough projects at the moment unfortunately. If you managed to make it all the way to the bottom, thank you for reading all of that, I appreciate it, and I hope you enjoyed at least some parts of this, and maybe even agree with some of the things I said. Feel free to leave your own ideas in the comments, I’d love to read them and hopefully if enough people like this maybe i will actually do something with it. Who knows? I certainly dont. Anyways thank you for reading all this, i hope you have a great day, and maybe ill see you around in another post. Bye!!! <3
