I feel like Logan’s death really commandeers the conversation about how terrible season 4 of Veronica Mars is (understandably so it is horrific) but there’s literally SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT 😭

Veronica isn’t Veronica and Logan isn’t Logan (really NO ONE is truly in character anymore). Rob Thomas clearly has NO IDEA what healing actually looks like so Logan becomes this pop psychology stereotype with no depth or emotion and like Veronica literally says A POD PERSON. And he describes his therapy as controlling his anger so it doesn’t consume him. That might have been the move as a temporary band-aide immediately to stabilize his life after season 3 but what like 12 years later???? When season 4 starts? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Fire that therapist immediately 😭 He should be WELL into the source of his anger. Healing isn’t about control it’s about surrender and acceptance of your feelings and developing healthy coping strategies to process your newly uncovered feelings so you can live WITH them not in spite of them. There’s a reason so many “good guy” characters are so one dimensional and boring it’s because the male writers writing them literally have NO CLUE what a healthy well adjusted men act like 😭 - (Ted Lasso was so rare because we had good men writing good men)

And yes we know Logan punching people does it for Veronica but that’s because it is ALWAYS in defense of her but his safety and well being is always her number 1 priority (he pulls a gun to save her in the Fitzpatricks bar and she screams at him because she doesn’t want him to get hurt or killed in his attempt to defend her and she’s terrified). Him just punching a kitchen cabinet in rage and frustration is NOT the same thing at all and she would show concern in that situation not immediately instigate sex ROBERT.

The idea that Veronica did ZERO growing/healing/processing in those 12 years is so insulting and just not realistic - once she got space and distance she would have come out of fight or flight and been assaulted with all the repressed emotions from seasons 1-3 before law school yet somehow she’s WORSE than she was when she was younger with less stability and support and capacity to handle everything she was dealing with.

Especially after everything established in the movie!

THE AMOUNT OF GROWTH THAT SHOWS IN VERONICA IS ACTUALLY INSANE. Miss never trusts anybody, suspect EVERYONE until your can verify the truth - believes Logan and Weevil AT THEIR WORD. Trusts THEIR CHANGE implicitly and picks helping Logan and Weevil BECAUSE SHE CARES not because it’s a fucking addiction as Rob tried to frame it in the movie 💀💀💀 Veronica always helped because she’s SOFT because she has a good heart and can’t help but help when she knows she can which is classic of parentified children - you believe everything is your responsibility to fix if it’s in your capability to fix. Does she get neurotic trying to solve cases? Absolutely! But that is trying to control and fix external problems as a distraction from her own. It was a coping mechanism and taking that coping mechanism away in the 9 years between season 3 and the movie would have caused serious problems for her that would have forced her to confront her issues.

Season 4 could have been Veronica having a complete break down from her always too full plate coming crumbling down trying to help and fix too much combined with logan being gone and always at risk when he is gone, Wallace bringing new life into an increasingly corrupt neptune she can’t seem to save, Mac working for Jake Kane?!!?! I would have loved If instead she was helping Mac deal with the swapped at birth thing they NEVER touched again. Combined with her dad’s health problems and Weevil falling back into his old habits. She is someone who feels responsible for everything and everyone around her because everyone blamed her for EVERYTHING when she was younger and eventually that catches up with you and THAT is what I wanted to see her strength crumble forcing her to be truly vulnerable and instead of asking for favors asking for HELP allowing her to stop acting like a woman written by a man and act like an actual adult woman BY women who actually understand that experience. Rob was SO out of his depth - his portrayal of Leanne in earlier seasons already proved that.

But that’s just one of literally 1 million possibilities that would have been better than the direction Rob chose. He managed to strip away everything we loved about ALL of his characters until they were ghosts of themselves and it makes me SO UPSET 😭 because he literally revived a show just to finish the destruction path he started in season 3, that had started to be corrected in the movie because it was so controlled by the fans.

Rob and Joss - two men who’s success was built upon a largely female audience and then their misogyny caused them to try and destroy everything their audiences loved 🙃🙃🙃🙃

General opinion: I’d say season 1 Dan will forever be my fave. He’s a little shithead kid who gets the bomb dropped on him and he has to start reevaluating how he looks at the other people around him, but that starts to falter in the later seasons where he just becomes the stereotypical hero who gets all the buffs and does no wrong, which does his character such a disservice. I honestly like that he was such a dick in the beginning bc that’s how most kids are, but the point is they learn through meeting other people and experiencing shit. We were robbed of that for Dan after season 1 IMO. But overall he’s fine ig.

Marucho:

Gender: reads as a boy to me personally, now that I think ab it him being a trans guy is so real. Short trans kings unite 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

You sigh , and turn your head away from him , You take a look around you something you haven’t done in days , taking in all the destroyed buildings from being neglected and nature covering them with vines and nature also doing the same for the abandoned cars you could tell this used to be a big city , the streets were jammed packed with whatever fleeing people left behind when the outbreak started “Leo.. where are we at?” You say as anxiety fills your body , ever since the world ended , you never went through major cites ever. You know that cites are taken over by infected or hunters , that and since the debris from the buildings or cars are blocking most of the pathways so theirs no escape. You’ve been so tired and thirsty you haven’t even noticed where you been walking to , you feel like your heart has dropped in your stomach. Your not even hungry or tired or thirsty anymore , all you can think about is how can you and Leo can escape if shit turns sideways . Suddenly you notice the broken billboards, and the lights strung around, and the over grown palm trees , suddenly it clicks .

“Leo please don’t tell me we are in Vegas…” you say feeling more scared by the moment , you look around your surroundings very fast , making sure theirs not threats coming towards you two , “y/n are you okay?” Leo says as he runs up to you grabbing your shoulder and looks at down at you with worry in his eyes . “Goddamn Leo! , how the hell did we ended up in Las Vegas !” You say as you whisper scream to him , fearing whatever is here could hear you if you screamed at him

“Um we walked here?” He says , as he shrugs , you glance at him , then give him a disappointing smile , “oh really! , I thought we flew here on my million dollar jet !” You say sarcastically , as you roll your eyes at him , “look I was so tired from you making me walk for almost two days straight I didn’t even notice, we were in the city till now , what if a big hoard of infected comes out one of these buildings to eat our faces off ! , or better yet what if a hunter robs us then kills us!” You say , as you panic. Leo grabs you hand and strokes it , it immediately brings you out of your panic state , you look at him , “y/n don’t worry , we are going to be okay! “ he says as he smiles at you , “h-how so?” You say , “ 5 days into the out break the military blew up cities to kill as much as infected as they can. Most infected were in major cities , because of the high population ” He turns you towards the buildings and tilts your chin up so all you can see is buildings leaning against each other , “that’s why most of these buildings are leaning against each other . I’m not saying they’ve been fully cleaned out , but theirs probably a few infected inside .” He explains , “it’s faster to go through the city then go to around it , andddd the reason we don’t take a break is , even if theirs a few of infected in their , I don’t want to risk it . I don’t want you to get hurt .” He says as he drags out the ‘and’ part , you get flustered mumble a quick “what ever “ as you walk off , hoping over the car to get back on track to getting out the city , he smiles to him self , then follows behind you .

Ashes to Ashes

A fix-it fic for a friend.

It was over. It is over.

Robert looked at his calendar with a sense of awe. It had been almost a full year since he left his last boss and relationship. Both were unfortunately one and the same- Count Dracula. After a century or so of existing within the shadow of the vampire, Robert, like the many plants that filled his windowsill, yearned for sunshine. He had accomplished a lot in a nearly-year's time- he got a job, he started dating a human person, he adopted a cat, and he moved (one should not live in the same city where one chopped one's former master into little pieces, encased those pieces in concrete, and dumped those pieces into the city's sewer system, you know). He had also, along with the help of his wonderful friend Rebecca Quincey, burned all of the artifacts of his former life. And the abandoned hospital in which said artifacts had been stashed. (One cannot start a new chapter of one's life if one is worried about people finding one's fingerprints on the bodies one supplied to one's vampire boss/lover, you know).

Really, things were great.

Until the dreams started.

Robert would wake with a start from nightmares in which Dracula had reformed and sought revenge. Dracula invaded his mind, scouring, pulling memories and information and sneering and judging, threatening. Dracula sank his claws into Robert's sunny mind and promised in the same breath that things would be different,better next time and that he would destroy every shred of happiness Robert had cultivated for himself.

"He won't come back," Robert's incredibly sweet and understanding lover assured him. "Vampires need their native dirt, right? So even if he rebuilds himself, somehow, he's kinda fucked."

"Very fucked," Robert sighed into his lover's chest. He smiled. All was well in his world.

Until he woke with a jolt at 2:36AM and texted Rebecca "THE COFFIN"

Rebecca texted back, "It's the middle of the night 😫"

"We never destroyed his coffin

"It was in the Lobo's compound

"It's lined with dirt Rebecca HE CAN COME FOR US 🥺😰🫣😵💀👀😱"

Rebecca got up and grumpily walked down the hall to Robert's room. The two had found rooms for rent in a house owned by a friend of Rebecca's family. They were at opposite ends of a hallway, so Rebecca had to resist the urge to stomp, lest she wake their housemate. She knocked quietly but somehow managed to convey her annoyance. Robert struggled out of his bedding and opened the door and ushered Rebecca inside.

"Okay," Rebecca sighed, still annoyed (but Robert's cat purring in her lap was relieving some of that annoyance), "what about the coffin and the dirt?"

"Vampires need to rest in, or on, their native soil," Robert explained with a tone someone might use when explaining, say, the rotation of the earth around the Sun to a ten year old child. "Dracula's coffin is lined with a thin layer of dirt from Transylvania. If, if he somehow comes back-"

"He won't, Rob."

"But if he does, if he does... He can travel in the coffin. He can seduce more familiars to transport him." Robert sat on the edge of his bed. "Oh, God, why didn't I think to destroy the coffin..."

Robert's cat hopped from Rebecca's lap to rub at Robert's shins and meow. He leaned down to pet his pet. Rebecca thought a moment.

"Teddy got the coffin into the Lobo mansion, so, if anything, it got swept up into an evidence locker." She looked at her phone. "I'll shoot a text to my ex. She works in Evidence, maybe she can track it down." A pause. "We're still on good terms. It won't be one of those bullshit 'well, what's in it for me' things."

Robert scooped his cat into his lap and gave Rebecca a sheepish, thankful smile.

Robert slept as well as he could over the next few days. He worked on his knitting projects. He untangled his cat from his knitting projects. He attended orientation meetings for volunteer work. He had dreams where Dracula had one-sided conversations at him. He read job listings. He made out with his lover. He baked cookies for his housemates. He practiced conversational Russian with his neighbor.

Three days passed. And then Rebecca rushed to him with news.

"Okay, so Stasia said she did see the coffin listed on intake forms, but, because the captain and a quarter of the force got fuckin' killed and another half quit, corrupt fucks, those who were left were like 'we don't have room for a goddamned coffin in the evidence locker' so they checked it real fast, y'know, for hidden cash or drugs. They sifted through the dirt and threw the dirt out in, in half a dozen trash bags."

She paused to take a breath, then continued reading the text.

"After they sifted and tossed all the dirt, they broke the coffin down so they could throw it in a dumpster- you can't just shove a whole coffin in a dumpster, who knew."

Rebecca smiled up at Robert. "It's destroyed, Rob. Spread out all over the New Orleans Municipal Landfill." She picketed her phone and gave her friend a playful punch in the arm. "So even if those little cubes of concrete somehow, uh, smoosh back into a vampire, there is no fuckin' way he can get out of Louisiana."

Robert tapped at his temple. "He's still connected to me, unfortunately."

Rebecca shrugged. "I think we all have an obnoxious voice from the past in our heads. You just gotta remind yourself, you're still here. You're alive. You survived. He can't do anything to you now except, what, bitch and moan in your dreams?" She made a face. "Just fill your dreams with better things. He'll quiet down and give up eventually."

Robert smiled. "You're right."

"Well, yeah. I'm always right."

Your art of Javier is amazing, and i love his cat eyes, and i love the young concept art even more. I'm replaying the game slower, more free roaming and side quests before going through the main ones, and i didn't realise that you could go fishing with Javier and Kieran, so i was super excited when that happened!! That scene when they're going fishing together... Javier and Arthur are very amiable together and i like how they work pretty well together. There was also the homestead robbing thing with Javier that was awesome, with extra dialogue and stuff- it's simple stuff like that, that makes me really happy with characterization. I wish you could spend more time with the other characters.

(Also. Arthur be nice to Kieran for 10 minutes challenge.)

Trying to find good rdr2 fics on ao3 where they aren't weird as fuck about Micah (or dutch) is vv hard. A lot of people really like him for some reason and i just don't understand why? He's a twat waffle, constantly acts as though he's better than everyone and antagonizes and flings slurs around like candy

Secondly I'm super glad! I tried my best in my first playthrough to kind of pay attention to every character but I ended up not valuing a lot of them until they were dead 💀... I regretted not speaking to people like Sean and Hosea more especially because they're so interesting. But as I progressed I ended up bonding with a lot and having unlikely favourites, like Reverend Swanson! But those small companionship activities like fishing are really enjoyable and help you develop your understanding so well of Arthurs relationships with other gang members and I rlly wish we got more of them :)

I personally like Dutch but not without a LOT of conflicted feelings/criticisms of his character and have more to dislike than anything else but oh my god you're so right about Micah and him having weird as fuck fics. He has genuinely no redeeming qualities and I won't even entertain people saying they 'like him as a villain' or find him funny because it's honestly so questionable. And people who ship Willscuella are my opp because I don't understand why you're pairing the minority with a man who antagonises him and calls him slurs either? Insane. Not to mention there's this weird habit writers have of repeating the g-slur in fics because it's one of the lesser know racial slurs and I just 😬😬😬

Personal preference rambles as a found family heavy angst enjoyer (this is not a defense of Rosenburg X-Men), but in a general sense I really like when — so they might not get along, but they got each other, because as life keeps gloating it's hell to fight supremacy when you're fighting each other (not that causes of divisions amongst marginalized people are unimportant, but if you don't have your people, no one else will, this is how I feel; also not that anyone is obligated to loyalty towards a specific individual that harms them) — Hope shooting Scott in the head isn't fine, but what binds them is more important than grudges. Logan finally leaving his MCU-esque Post Credits Scene Era to be with Scott! The way Black King Emma (!!!) will stoop to any low as she manipulates Scott into doing what she wants, but she is trying to protect him, she worries when he's shot, and when the perceived advantage of their separation ends, she just welcomes them all into the Hellfire Club?? It's just cathartic for me.

There are some very significant caveats in this run that I only hope I remember well enough to speak on… The Morlocks deserved better, eons before anti-mutant hate got to that level, and between Jono and Dani's roles — the X-Men having overlooked the way it's always godawful for the most marginalized among them before it was quite this godawful for all of them, the hypocrisy, it could've been explored better here with less focus on Scott and Logan. Like in Sabretooth and the Exiles, sort of, but not entirely…

(I think sometimes this works better with side books. The Simonson New Mutants run is debatably my fav and overhated in my opinion.)

Yeah, Rosenburg X-Men is very flawed, and it's extremely valid not to be into it when you hold the same energy for Krakoa's flaws, but overall (for me) it really nailed the tension and the stakes and the angst and I was extremely hooked, especially with Age of X-Men meanwhile making choices in the other books.

(I might be misremembering a bunch, too, I literally just reread my college essay from almost exactly 5 years ago to try and remind me! I was low-key exaggerating in those tags where I called it a paper, it was a 3-page one-week essay with two sources which were Rosenburg UXM and the textbook. I also re-skimmed the Ruth death issue…)

…okay one more thing also I can't lie I was heavy into David/Ruth at the time and I read that issue like three times that week it dropped, I'm not about to say it she wasn't fridged for the purpose of setting up how bad it's about to get, nor that the interesting shit it did with her powers didn't literally just mirror the excuse to write out Destiny in a very concerning pattern, but at least the story was about Ruth's pain rather than that of those left behind (which is very different from, say, the focus being on Peter Parker's pain when Ms Marvel last died; and also very different from Rahne's death, which is the worst of the run)— anyway in 2019 I was just so happy to see Ruth again after that wildly OOC Legion series that didn't mention her while David was also being a plot device in Age of X-Men (which I didn't love). I had pretty much lost hope that my X-Men Legacy babies would ever be relevant again, so it was a win for me. Not as big as Way of X, but the bar was on the floor. That said a content warning was so needed to be at the beginning instead of a fucking suicide hotline at the end.

But the Rahne trans panic murder, god. Masterclass in taking the mutant metaphor to depict the most brutal things to happen to real marginalized people (without bothering to represent them?) and it goes grossly exploitative so quick. The way X-Men's lack of sensitivity readers shows…

Okay this happened yesterday

Basically, my Friend went to a party two days ago and got jumped and all of his money and stuff got robbed by some russian fuckheads who were local to that area. And I mean those guys were known to be fucking people over and taking their stuff n shit.

So yesterday he called me and explained stuff to me and asked if I want to come with him and 4 other friends of his to go get his stuff back because the party was apparently still on-going.

So i’m like “yeah fuck it. I’ll tag along”

So he gives me the meet-up address which is a nearby market and I drive there.

Little bit of a time skip until we found them because it took us a while going around asking and searching for them. But a bunch of guys helped us find them. They knew them personally and also hated their guts💀

We end up going up to them and eventually they return it after a bit of back and forth arguing.

Once we got the stuff back we went and beat their asses anyways because they started talking shit not a few moments later💀

They were all short as hell too. I think we dislocated one guys shoulder. My friends phone fell out of his pocket at one point and one of the Russians grabbed it and smashed it. Yea he ended up getting socked in the jaw. Bahahah I kneed one guy in the stomach (there were like three of them) Pretty sure Toomas knocked one of the guys’ tooth out💀

I mean respect for trying to fight back (a futile attempt really) but the only smart thing they did was go running😂 we didn’t bother chasing after them. We just went back to our cars all jumpy because of the adrenaline high and had a good laugh about it.
