Bubble hockey!

But I didn't play that, instead I played regular hockey, or at least our slower, low skill version of hockey.

We were missing our team captain who is also one of our more dangerous offensive threats. And we were playing against the most consistently good goalie in the league. It didn't seem like a good situation.

But we started out playing alright, even had more shots in the first period, though it was a low amount for both teams as the play was mostly not threatening to either net for most of the period. We got kind of lucky very late in the period to get a solid shot and get to the rebound first and put it in for a goal right before the intermission.

That was a great result and gave us a nice lead. But the other team seemed to pick up their game slightly in response and I felt was the better team the rest of the game, though not by a great deal.

I was playing well though and making good saves until about 3/4 through the second period when I had my stick down in front of me to block passes to two of their guys being covered by our weakest defender. A pass came in towards those skaters but it was much harder than I had anticipated and bounced off my stick and into the net. That was frustrating but I kept playing well after and the period finished tied at 1. We nearly took advantage of a goalie stick handling mistake very late in the period, it even looked in from the other end where I was but wound up hitting the post of the completely empty net and staying out.

The third was pretty even for the most part aside from a few periods where they controlled and made good chances for a while, but I was able to stop everything and the fewer chances we made on the other end all resulted in saves too, some of them pretty darn good. The regulation time ran out with the score still tied.

So we went to overtime, 3 on 3. It creates a few more chances to score but with our skill it's not nearly as many scoring opportunities as the pros have when they do it and the ot ended with me making more saves than the other goalie but no goals.

Then we went to a shootout, our first shooter was stopped. Then I should have poke checked their first but didn't and he scored. Our second shot off the post and out. I stopped their second shooter and then our third missed the goal for a final shootout victory for the other team.

The official shot total was 30 for them to 20 for us. I noticed the sub score keeper was even worse with the shot count than usual so figure I probably actually had more than 40 shots faced, which certainly felt about right for how tired I was after the game. It was also frustrating to play so well personally with not much offensive support in front of me and then come up so close to stealing a win.

But oh well, it was still fun and I played well and was happy with most of my game so that was a good thing.

Someday, Damian is going to outpace Tim height-wise. He'll be at least a couple inches taller, because Damian's parents are both tall(ish) while Tim has done everything in his power short of getting an Ed Elric-style arm to stunt his own growth.

the most romantic thing about the solas romance is how much love there is for lavellan in the act of breaking up with her.

solas breaks up with lavellan because it is objectively what is best for her. not because it's what he wants. not because his mission is just more important than she is. because he loves her.

it is in lavellan's best interests that she know who she falls in love with and has agency in that decision. solas breaks up with her because he is not entirely truthful about who he is. she can't make an informed choice about being with him without the truth. and because solas isn't ready to tell her the truth, he backs off.

whether we like it or not, fen'harel is part of who solas is, even if solas is part of his genuine character, the face he shows us in DAI is not all of him.

what is so sexy about solas showing his love for her in this way is he sees the clear power imbalance between them (him with all his secrets), and he chooses her well being over his desires, he puts the power back in her hands - by breaking up with her. he says, "it isn't right of me to continue with this when you don't actually know me". only his reveal in trespasser opens the door for her to accept him, or deny him.

ultimately, it is up to lavellan to decide what is in her best interests. does she accept solas, now knowing the truth, or does she say "wow yeah i actually can't live with that" and walk away?

putting my prediction on record now that the coming decade is going to see the rise of viral-marketed fancy at-home water filtration systems, driving and driven by a drastic reduction in the quality of U.S. tap water (given that we are in a 'replacement era' where our current infrastructure is reaching the end of its lifespan--but isn't being replaced). also guessing that by the 2030s access to drinkable tap water will be a mainstream class issue, with low-income & unstably housed people increasingly forced to rely on expensive bottled water when they can't afford the up-front cost of at-home filtration--and with this being portrayed in media as a "moral failing" and short-sighted "choice," rather than a basic failure of our political & economic systems. really hope i'm just being alarmist, but plenty of this already happens in other countries, and the U.S. is in a state of decline, so. here's praying this post ages into irrelevance. timestamped April 2023
