I keep saying this and I'll say it again.
The minimum, in this the twenty first century, for a famous person, celebrity, artist, whatever; a person whose image and work is widely known but whom you do not know personally (no really, you don't); whom most people encounter via the media; a public figure; that kind of person. okay? to be considered a
queer icon
The absolute bare minimum, for a celebrity born after 1980, to be considered a queer icon is, ought to be, and must be: that they're queer.
This grandfathers in everyone who acted opposite Montgomery Clift and all the straight celebrities (mostly women) who championed and supported and fought for gay and queer people during the worst years of the epidemic. Allies and idealizations alike, they can stay, part of the cuckoo's egg history of queer culture in the twentieth century. This doesn't erase them, or that half-imaginary mind of the life.
But it does raise the fucking bar, our standards, and our expectations. Of ourselves not least. Get a grip.
Queer icons should be, at minimum, queer people. We're out and proud now, we don't have to project ourselves onto the accommodating public images of (cis het white and mostly female) celebrities and movie stars when there are publicly queer artists and performers ready to wave the flag and reflect our love back to us.

also this is nice what with the Pedro Pascal hot sauce combo as I am a vocal advocate for both (i knowwww it’s not new but i am hungry and now want wings and hot sauce)

Say what you will about the witcher season 2 but all the "Yennefer took Jaskier in the divorce", "Geralt and Yennefer are a divorced couple rasing a kid and dating the same man", "geraskefer love triangle with an oblivious Jaskier in the middle" memes and fics were top tier

What if Good Omens were about two women (and no, don’t try me with that whole “they’re not technically men/they’re women sometimes“ deal. Yes, it is strictly speaking true, but it’s incredibly hard to tell when they’re being women on screen and they’re men most of the time)
What if IWTV were about two women
What if OFMD were about two women
What if all of these Tumblr darling shows were about women with sapphic romance or sexual tension. Cis women, trans women, women of various ages and races and classes and abilities
What if genre media about queer women got the same love from its showrunners and from fans alike that genre shows about M/M couples get now. What if that trend hadn’t briefly flared into glorious light in the 2010s and then died again
Damn I might actually watch those shows then

"Well I WASN'T gonna watch the show about the deeply discriminatory wizard world that thinks slavery is cool and good with writing that constantly employs racist and homophobic and bigoted metaphors and language written by a violent transphobe who pals around with nazis that has stated multiple times that she considers all engagement with her work, ESPECIALLY monetary engagement (money that she uses millions upon millions of to fund discriminatory organizations and legislation by the way), to be validation of her views but you were kinda mean about it on tumblr so you've really twisted my arm here"
