🖤💛Fan Expo💛🖤
Words cannot express how truly amazing this con was! This was, by far, one of the greatest gifts that Skydaddy has given me! With that said...
On Saturday, I did photo ops with Hyaden. Which he was just so excited to see my special Leafs shirt and get the Leafs bracelet I made him. 💙🤍 Unfortunately though, I froze up soooo bad. Sassyness just bam...gone...out the window. 😭 But he was so patient with me. Pulled me in for a side hug, gave me backrubs, and told me "it's okay". Also, lord, he smelled so good...like mountain freshness, mixed with rain. 🫠
Thankfully though, I was able to redeem myself on Sunday.
I got to see him for autographs first thing in the morning. (Best way to start your day, 10/10) I was finally able to talk to him without being a shy bean. Again, he was excited to see my special Jays shirt; got a be kick out of me being a fan of both teams. 💙🤍 Got a good laugh out of my 'Crispy, Not Burnt' keychain on the Anakin backpack...along with the 'Bad Dad Star Wars Jokes' book I gave him. And was so happy to get some homemade 'crack' cookies from me. Poor guy though, he accidentally mispronuced my name at first and just kept apologizing while we both kept trying to shake with the wrong hand. 😂
After the autographs, Skydaddy and I got to see him and Rosario for the team-up photo. Where right off the bat, as soon as he saw me, he thanked me for the cookies again and told me he really liked them. I was able to give the two of them the matching bracelets I made (Worlds Best Padawan and Worlds Okayish Master). And before we went to leave, Hayden thanked me again and gave me more backrubs. ❤️
Finally, not too long after the team up, I went to get an autograph from Rosario. Which she got her own container of 'crack' cookies, she was very excited about that. And told me about how after she and Hayden finished the team up pics, they finally got the chance to see what the bracelets said. Apparently they both got a good laugh out of them and Hayden said, "Okayish? Only Okayish?" 😂
Again...this was truly an amazing con! I can't wait to have the opportunity to see both of them again! And hopefully I didn't bore you, lovelies, with my experience post! 🖤💛

If comparative mythology is kinda bad, what does that mean for Proto-Indo-European religion reconstructions?
Candid disclaimer: I know absolutely nothing about the conversations PIE scholars are having about theory and methodology. Maybe they’re already discussing these issues, or maybe it’s still just the Brothers Grimm Old Boy’s Club.
As a slightly serious tangent, I want to say there’s nothing inherently bad about comparative mythology, provided that it’s equal parts comparison and contrast.
For example, lot of people think of Odin as analogous to Jupiter because both are “king of the gods.” We make assumptions about the importance that title had for both Norse and Roman culture. But at least some meaningful sample of people who lived in the era when Germanic peoples were still worshiping Odin felt that a stronger comparison could be made to Mercury. Which, for those who need their memory jogged, is why Germanic mythology days of the week have “Wednesday/Onsday” as our corollary to “Miércoles/Mercredi/Miercuri.” The point of this anecdote being that you know a lot more about Odin by knowing both how he was similar and dissimilar to Jupiter than if you only sought similarity.
Comparative mythology could and should fight harder against using frameworks that rely on pattern-seeking in ways that encourage confirmation bias and lead to gross oversimplification. And I don’t see any reason why people who find the comparative approach to mythology enjoyable can’t upgrade their current methods to better methods.
For PIE and historical reconstructions in general, my feeling is that all those asterisks can represent a meaningful difference between triangulating shot-in-the-dark conclusions about a specific culture circa 3000 BCE vs. making reductive claims about all global human cultures, living or dead. It seems to me that the beauty of the PIE field is the intense bravery of consciously knowing you’re probably doing the equivalent of Victorians reconstructing dinosaur skeletons and maybe only getting the feet right. We’ll never know for certain if it’s correct. As long as modern scholars aren’t still wantonly stripping living cultures down to contextless bare bones from which to build their Frankenreconstruction, I reckon they’ve done the best they can?
But again, I don’t actually know what the reputable folks in that field are up to, so I’d be happy to learn that I’m speculating total nonsense if it means I get to know what’s actually happening. @Everyone who actually is in this field! Please go bonkers on this post!
tbh I’m just here to make jokes about steppe dudebros whose online dating profiles would talk about horsies, pimping their chariot, their freaky habit for drinking milk, and being dommed by Skydaddy. Love those crazy Proto-Indo-Europeans.
(Side note that I assume we’re not talking about the shitheads who are really excited to reclaim the swastika as their Proto-Indo-European heritage and who think everything was more authentic, heroic, and virile before those pesky Christians came in with their wussy cryptosemitic religion. Because those PIE “reconstructionists” should be hunted down via chariot due to their being among the most repellent creatures to ever shamble across the face of the protesting earth.)

AND PERCY X LEO COULD BE SEAFIRE AND I COULD GO ON BUT THOSE are the best i can remember. if a ship is that poetic it’s an instant otp for me
