This was years ago, but if anyone remembers way back when I built my PC and vlogged it

I ran into...problems. Boot loops, instability, memtest failures, figured it was just a bad BIOS update since an earlier one worked.

Well eventually I realized the QVL list was actually important and my RAM...was not on it. (I didn't even realize that RAM COULD be incompatible with a motherboard at that point.) I tried to update the BIOS for years and each time had to revert back immediately.

Anyways, my brother just upgraded his computer, going to AM5, so I had the chance to get a few parts. Thing is, if I wanted his 5900X, I needed a BIOS update. He also had 64GB of RAM, which again, wasn't on my motherboard's QVL (and I didn't want to swap motherboards else I lose my Windows OEM key) BUT HEY. What have I got to lose.

It spat out several different codes when the RAM was installed. Cleared CMOS twice before we could boot into a live Linux USB, but it DID boot into an OS. Just for the fun of it, we updated the BIOS, ran a mem test and lo and behold

IT PASSED. I GOT A NEW CPU AND MORE RAM, but my favorite thing is for the first time in 5 years, I COULD UPDATE THE BIOS AND NOW HAVE AN ACTUALLY STABLE COMPUTER.

Still here

It's been a rough beginning of the year. A lot has been going on emotionally and family wise (specifically in Io's family, so I'm not going to go into detail much beyond that there was a recent death in his family.)

So I haven't been very focused on bysotid just because of all that other stuff and have been working on some original stuff instead as creative outlets. (I don't know if anyone has any interest in that, but I'd be willing to share a bit about those projects if people are interested).

So yeah, that's the current deal and why I've been missing since New Years.

I did finally open the file last night and put through some final edits on the next chapter. It's going to be shorter than what I've been releasing, probably only 13k words ish, I think, but... yeah. Sneak peek coming as a separate post.

A Ghostly Text Mishap

Danny flopped onto his bed, phone in hand, glaring at the screen. Another long day of dealing with Vlad's manipulative nonsense had left him frustrated beyond belief. He opened his messages, found the contact labeled Trucker, and began furiously typing.

Danny: You will NOT believe what Plasmius did this time. The absolute NERVE of this guy. You’d think being half-dead would make someone LESS petty, but nooo, this man’s ego is bigger than the Ghost Zone.

Danny: He tried to "buy" my parents' company AGAIN. He offered to “help” with ghost containment tech but really just wants to snoop around for weaknesses in the portal.

Danny: AND he had the audacity to call me “Little Badger” like it’s a term of endearment. I swear, if I hear that ONE MORE TIME, I might go full ghost and dropkick him into the Fenton Thermos.

Satisfied with his venting, Danny tossed his phone onto the bed and buried his face in his pillow. Unbeknownst to him, he had made one critical mistake.

Jason Todd, aka Red Hood, was sitting in his safe house, polishing his guns when his phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen.

Unknown Number: You will NOT believe what Plasmius did this time…

Jason raised an eyebrow. “What the hell is this?” he muttered, scrolling through the tirade. By the time he got to “Little Badger”, he was smirking.

He typed back:

Jason: Kid, I think you’ve got the wrong number. Unless this “Plasmius” guy is a Gotham villain I’ve somehow missed.

Danny’s phone buzzed, and he rolled over to check it. His heart dropped when he saw the reply.

Danny: Oh no. This isn’t Trucker, is it?

Jason: Nope. But you’ve got my attention. Who’s Plasmius, and why does he sound like the type of guy I’d shoot on principle?

Danny hesitated, then decided to just roll with it.

Danny: Short version: he’s a half-ghost fruitloop billionaire who’s obsessed with ruining my life, becoming my creepy stepdad, and taking over the world. Think Lex Luthor but undead and ickier.

Jason burst out laughing, earning a curious glance from Roy Harper, who had just walked in.

“Who’s got you laughing like that?” Roy asked, setting down a bag of takeout.

“Some kid who texted me by mistake,” Jason replied, showing him the messages.

Roy skimmed them and snickered. “Plasmius? Sounds like a knockoff vampire villain.”

Jason’s fingers flew over the keyboard.

Jason: Okay, kid, you’ve officially got my interest. I don’t know who you are, but if this Plasmius guy’s half as bad as you say, I’ve got some creative ways to deal with him. You in Gotham?

Danny stared at the message, blinking. Who even was this guy? But... he did sound like he knew how to handle problems.

Danny: Uh, no. I’m from Amity Park. It’s kind of a supernatural hotspot, so I’ve got it covered. But thanks for the offer, I guess?

Jason smirked.

Jason: Supernatural hotspot? Kid, you’re talking to someone who’s been resurrected. Ghosts don’t scare me.

Danny froze. Resurrected? Oh no. This guy might actually know about the supernatural.

Danny: ...Wait, who ARE you?

Jason: Name’s Jason. Most people call me Red Hood. Ever heard of me?

Danny blinked, then groaned. “Of course. I text a vigilante. Just my luck.”

Danny: ...Yeah, I’ve heard of you. So, uh, thanks for not tracking this number and showing up at my house or something.

Jason: Yet.

Danny felt a shiver run down his spine.

Danny: That’s not funny, dude.

Jason: Relax, Little Badger. Your secret’s safe with me. For now. But hey, if you ever need help dealing with your undead billionaire problem, hit me up.

Danny sighed, shaking his head.

Danny: Sure. Thanks, I guess?

Jason leaned back, grinning as he saved the number under Ghost Kid.

“Roy, I think I just found the weirdest contact in my phone.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Roy replied, tossing Jason a burger.

“Not bad. Just… different.” Jason chuckled. “Plasmius, huh? Sounds like fun.”

Donatello's Inspirations

Rise Ramblings #91

So, I’ve noticed that Donatello has a habit of being inspired by what he sees and adopting those aspects into himself.

This system of integration is most prevalent when it comes to the people he loves or admires.

Take one of his favorite stims, for instance.  

You don’t have to look too far to find that phrase's source.

He admires and loves his Papa, thus one of his dad’s favorite sayings is one of his favorites as well.

This aspect of incorporation also extends to his beloved heroes.

One of my favorite examples are his signature eyebrows.

He didn’t have them, then he did. We know that he started drawing them on nine years ago (with a sharpie, lol) but I wonder where he got the idea for the eyebrows in the first place…

Before he knew that Lou Jitsu was his father, Donnie had already incorporated the man’s eyebrows into his mask. Therefore, one can argue that the adoption of Lou’s well-coiffed brows was not due to a simple familial bond. Instead, Donnie just wanted to be more like his hero, Lou Jitsu (and thought the brows were cool, lol.)

However, that’s not the only hero Donatello took inspiration from.

Words cannot express how truly amazing this con was! This was, by far, one of the greatest gifts that Skydaddy has given me! With that said...

On Saturday, I did photo ops with Hyaden. Which he was just so excited to see my special Leafs shirt and get the Leafs bracelet I made him. 💙🤍 Unfortunately though, I froze up soooo bad. Sassyness just bam...gone...out the window. 😭 But he was so patient with me. Pulled me in for a side hug, gave me backrubs, and told me "it's okay". Also, lord, he smelled so good...like mountain freshness, mixed with rain. 🫠

Thankfully though, I was able to redeem myself on Sunday.

I got to see him for autographs first thing in the morning. (Best way to start your day, 10/10) I was finally able to talk to him without being a shy bean. Again, he was excited to see my special Jays shirt; got a be kick out of me being a fan of both teams. 💙🤍 Got a good laugh out of my 'Crispy, Not Burnt' keychain on the Anakin backpack...along with the 'Bad Dad Star Wars Jokes' book I gave him. And was so happy to get some homemade 'crack' cookies from me. Poor guy though, he accidentally mispronuced my name at first and just kept apologizing while we both kept trying to shake with the wrong hand. 😂

After the autographs, Skydaddy and I got to see him and Rosario for the team-up photo. Where right off the bat, as soon as he saw me, he thanked me for the cookies again and told me he really liked them. I was able to give the two of them the matching bracelets I made (Worlds Best Padawan and Worlds Okayish Master). And before we went to leave, Hayden thanked me again and gave me more backrubs. ❤️

Finally, not too long after the team up, I went to get an autograph from Rosario. Which she got her own container of 'crack' cookies, she was very excited about that. And told me about how after she and Hayden finished the team up pics, they finally got the chance to see what the bracelets said. Apparently they both got a good laugh out of them and Hayden said, "Okayish? Only Okayish?" 😂

Again...this was truly an amazing con! I can't wait to have the opportunity to see both of them again! And hopefully I didn't bore you, lovelies, with my experience post! 🖤💛

I know this is a follow-up that y'all were absolutely begging for, but yeah I didn't buy it.

The sale's over, and I said I'd be nice and allow myself to spend a bit more than usual this autumn sale, considering I kinda worked myself into a miserable mess these past couple months. This was on my list of games I was 100% sure I was going to buy, along with Little Kitty Big City and the Sega Mega Drive collection. I didn't buy any of them.

I spent like $16 getting Webfishing, Terror of the Hemasaurus and Endling. Almost bought Pizza Tower, but I have so much to play still, I figured I'd wait until winter sale and see if I'm ready to start another game.

And that's what ultimately took my Steam cart from being $140 down to $16: I took out the games I didn't see myself reasonably playing in the next few months, especially if they were over $10. SXSG, while one I would hop into relatively soon, would be out of obligation. I'm frankly just not excited to play it, top that with being the most expensive game on my wishlist, it got axed. Terror of the Hemasaurus though, oh honey I've been eyeing that game for like a year.

I don't know. I sound like such a teenager, but Sonic is kinda...complicated for me right now. I keep getting disappointed and coming back, hearing "you're a Sonic fan, you'll buy anything" over and over again.

I wish I could go back to being that kid who was happy to be Tails in Sonic 2, excitedly brought her Gamecube on vacation because she just had to play SA2, or grabbing a used copy of Colors when she finally was able to get a Wii, even picking Lost World off the shelf when she finally got a console the latest Sonic game was on. But then...she kinda hated Lost World and secretly agreed with the disliked IGN review. Still ended up preordering the Boom games, though. Preordered Forces. Cancelled the Colors Ultimate preorder. Got Frontiers at launch and just got drained from the toxic positivity trying desperately to drown out any criticism. Mania was fun, people were a bit too hard on TSR, TMoSTH was a blast, but does that really outweigh how much the series has disappointed me over the last decade?

Yet everyone says this is the best game since Generations, (although it IS also Generations) so maybe I'm skipping out on the one that would make things feel better, but...I don't trust it. Not after all these years and IDW and Prime. Not after everything that came with Frontiers.

I love SA2 and can go back to it with ease, same with Colors and Sonic 2. It's not just nostalgia blinding me, I still find those games very enjoyable. I want the Rush titles brought to PC so badly and had the time of my life doing an LP of SA1DC. Hell, I'll defend the Boom show 'till my dying days, that fell so hard into parody humor and I love it.

I like Sonic, but I don't think I like the Sonic SEGA has wanted me to for the last decade. My favorites all came out before I even knew who Sonic was. I don't trust this new stuff is for me just because I'm "a Sonic fan who will buy anything".

I'll probably play SXSG at some point. Maybe not, who knows. I could go homeless or some shit.

This is such a long ramble for what ultimately is just me saying I didn't buy a video game, a question which absolutely no one asked. But I guess I just wanted to say it.

Honestly...I'm debating if I should even pick this up.

I know, for the whole package, $38 is a good price, especially since it's such a new release, but...I've owned half the package for years. It's called Sonic Generations. (Espio's Classic mission was a bitch to S rank, I don't know how y'all perfectly execute swings like that.)

Shadow's levels look cool and have neat concepts, like being able to take alternate paths if you use Chaos Control at certain points, although I really don't know if it'll be another "yeah the game is alright, but..." I'm willing to be surprised, though after Frontiers and seeing the Gens rewrite, I'm pretty sure I'll end up frustrated again.

I don't know if I want to pay almost $40 just to feel frustrated.

We live in Nuremberg (Nürnberg).

It's located in Franconia which is the northern part of Bavaria. It's a very old city, and not very large, but is very much a city. (There's a lot of history associated with the city, both good and bad) I very much like it, though there are things that I don't agree with. Bavaria, in general, is fairly conservative for Germany (which makes it probably on par with most Dem controlled places in the USA), and that holds true here as well. It's almost equidistant from Munich, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt which is really nice.

Also because it's the largest city near one of the permanent(?) US military bases and a popular international tourist destination around Christmas (famous Christmas market), there is a lot of English spoken. It has a great huge movie theater complex right in the Altstadt (old city/city center) which gets a lot of OV (original versions) of movies. Which is important for us because Germans LOVE their dubs. Everything is dubbed. They don't really do subtitles for things. So we can see a decent selection of movies in English.

It's a really vibrant place to live, I think. It's very pretty. you don't get super young or trendy vibes, but neither is it stuffy. There's lots to do in the city and the area regardless of age (stuff for adults or families). We're within walking distance of multiple large parks and one of the subway lines and a tram line (and of course bus routes). It's not as expensive as the bigger cities, which is a plus, but not as affordable as some other place. (Not sure how it compares now since we've been in the same apartment for almost 7 years). Munich, for example, is a SUPER expensive city to live in, but nice to visit.

Anything else, I'd have to know what you'd like to know about it.

the hardest part of the rewrite is adding more mean choices/dialogue 😭 it's easy to write it toward seven and blake but the option to be mean to characters who are nice to you is so difficult lolool

I'm seeing a lot of people saying stuff like

"it makes me sad that he's mean :(" "I'm scared that my au is not accurate anymore" or "I got my interpretation of him wrong"

And I think you should put this new information about the DCA at a side for a moment, go talk to friends and info dump about your original AUs and ideas, brighten up a little bit that spark that makes you create your art and just have fun talking about it. Because the fact that he's sassy in one game doesn't mean that that's the only trait to his personality now.

He can be mean, he can be anxious, short tempered, good intended, caring, dramatic, a little bitch, a cinnamon roll... He can be all the things you can come up with, in this fandom he's always been all of the above and more in different ways, in different stories. And you can still write him the way you want, people can still interpret him the way they want, don't let canon or other people or your own thoughts stop you from creating your AUs.

Instead use it to get inspired, get new ideas and create new stories. They turned the tables, you can turn them back up. He can be mean because of the virus but get softer to you with time, you can make a story about self-confidence and worth, he can hate and love his job simultaneously for different reasons.

The AUs where he's soft and caring are still going to be there, the fics where he's good with kids and patient are still going to get written. Keep writing those fics, don't stop just because canon says otherwise. I stopped writing my steampunk AU when the mimic was revealed to be burntrap and not Afton because "it wasn't canon anymore so my AU is not accurate anymore" and I'm still with that thorn stuck in the back of my head for not continuing writing even if it wasn't canon accurate anymore. Because I actually got excited about writing that AU but for the way my brain see things "if it wasn't canon accurate it wasn't worth it" and let me tell you that's a shit of mentality.

So please

Please please please please

Don't give up on your stories and creativity like that.

The immense variety of characterizations and AUs is one of the pillars of this community and one of the coolest things. The fact that you can come up with any concept for these two dorks and make it an investing story and you have a whole catalog to choose from what you're going to see next. Don't let that stop.

I love this community even if I don't understand it sometimes and I barely interact, I love seeing people having fun making their AUs, going nuts making fanarts and gifting art to each other just because it makes them happy.

Don't let this limit you.

Now I don't care how you share this, if rebloging, or reposting it, or rewriting the whole thing but shorter in your own post but just share this feeling with the community. It would be so sad if all the things that makes this place special crumbled because people aren't confident anymore in how they write the DCA because of a game that came out yesterday.
