WHY ARE PEOPLE LEAVING FANDOM'S? WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT.

So, I have noticed that a lot of my mutual's for many fandom's ( TUA, TWD, Z-NATION, WWDITS, Derry Girls, HOTD, etc. ) have been dropping like flies.

[ I love you my beautiful friends, and I hope one day you will feel comfortable and safe to come back 😘 ]

It got me thinking, why? Why? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?! But, after talking to a few of my mutual's on other apps, it came down to mainly three common things with these mutual's. ( note, this is not for every fandom / fan, this was just the mutual's that I talked to, okay? )

1. The TV show ended, so there isn't much reason to stick around anymore. ( Umbrella Academy, The Walking Dead, Derry Girls, Z-Nation, What We Do in the Shadows, etc. )

Which is valid. If there are no more ( Ex. Sunday episodes for HOTD or Sunday episodes for TWD ) not many fans wanna stick around.

Then, after so many fans leave. It kind of becomes a 'dead fandom'. Where people sometimes goes back to time to time and be like, "Oh, I remember that show.." for nostalgia.

2. Their interests have changed.

Like any common trend, some people just say, "Nah, I don't like *insert show* anymore. I liked the 5th season and 2nd. But, I'm just not that into *insert genre* tv shows anymore." Again, valid.

Everyone had gone through one kind of phase before. It could have been books ( PJO, HP, etc. ) or fashion ( Skinny jeans, graphic t-shirts, etc. ) or music ( MCR, Blood on the Dance Floor, etc. )

It's fine to grow and change.

3. The fandom doesn't feel like a fandom anymore. This is a BIG one that many have told me.

People are clashing together, book vs tv show fights, character x character ships are constantly hating on each other, death threats are being sent to actors / fans / fanfic writers, you can't share your opinion without someone sending hate, etc.

The best example is HOTD. A fandom that I am in / write for.

Now, now, here me out! I have been very open about the hate in the fandom. You can check. I've gotten hate for writing about highly requested character's ( Aegon, Aemond, etc. ) and I have called out how fans are acting towards each other / actors.

What I don't get is this. We are all in the same fandom.

How did we go from, "Oh, Tom Glynn-Carney is really cute in Aegon's wig. It suits him.", "I have a fan theory that maybe in the next episode they'll do this part from the book because the teaser at the end of the episode it shows..", and, "I hope they put this scene in the show!"

To "Oh, you think Tom Glynn-Carney is cute as Aegon? Well you support r@pe and deserve death threats!", "Oh, you wrote a fanfic / oneshot / etc. for this character? Oh, it has a trope that it being used by a lot of other writers? Here's hate for that!", and, "Tom Glynn-Carney says that Aegon is a complex character...so clearly he supports..."

The main point is that this is why soooooo many of people are dropping out of fandom's. And when people call it out, they either get run out of the fandom as well or blasted for it with death threats.

Fandom's used to be places where people could go to geek out with others. A safe place. It's why there is comic con, etc. People want to know other fans, the want a safe place to go to.

Now, it's become a place where you have to mostly keep your head down low and not say a thing to avoid being run out because you share a different opinion.

In conclusion? I hope that fandom's can be kind to each once again so that people feel safe / comfortable to come back.

To all my beautiful fans who were run out / felt like they had to leave a fandom, I love you and understand why you left. I hope one day you will come back and find joy in the fandom that you once did.

To those of you running out fans / sending death threats. It's you that ruins the fandom. Fandom's were safe places for people, now you've ruined it for those people.

If you don't like a fandom / other fan, you have other options :

1. IGNORE THEM AND LEAVE THEM ALONE!

2. BLOCK A TAG / ACCOUNT YOU DON'T LIKE!

3. DON'T SEND DEATH THREATS!

4. FIND A PART OF THE FANDOM THAT MATCHES YOU AND STICK TO IT!

5. Block their account / tag, ignore them, not send death threats, leave them alone and enjoy the parts of the fandom that matches you.

It's that simple!

since y’all are starving apparently and i probably need to do a rewatch:

RANDOM CORE MEMORIES FROM THE Z NATION TV SHOW (spoilers ahead!)

Doc saying something like, “I’d drink my piss if any would come out 😖”

An episode where the gang is all trapped in a house for a bit? Specifically Addy is talking to someone in front of the door

Addy’s blonde boyfriend being stuck in a dark room with a bunch of zombies and Addy being too late to save him (last sight of him was him being nommed on by a bunch of zombos)

Roberta trying to mercy kill Doc (he wasn’t dead, he just got out of a bad place™️)

Murphy carrying Lucy as a baby and them being followed by walkers whom he tells to get lost

Lucy’s adoptive family and Addy telling Lucy that zombies are dangerous for non-blue people

Sketchy and Skeezy doing an election where one of them proposes that they create a giant hole for all the walkers to fall into

Murphy being put in a cage with a bunch of other zombies (this was first season, i remember ☝️)

A character that looked like/had the same vibes as Rick Grimes? but he died in the first season

The opening scene of season one being Roberta mercy killing someone’s grandpa (i think this gave me the perception that this world was safer?)

Having a BIG amount of gender envy towards Lucy (watched the show as a kid and being safe from zombies while having a killer jacket was epic to me)

Suicide cult in a gated community

Lucy saying she would scream if her captor didn’t do something she wanted (while they were clothes shopping) + Lucy getting her period in that same episode

Lucy’s death ☹️

I don’t know why but 10k also just exists in my head; nothing clear about him except that little me was waiting for him to make his first appearance (cause i saw my dad watching the show first which is how i got interested)

A list of pretty good actually teen/YA supernatural shows that I have personally seen and think are not That bad.

If I think of more I’ll add them to the list.

Pretty Please give me Campy Supernatural recommendations.

Zombies (I’m actually terrified of zombies so a lot are too scary for me)

Z nation (very campy the middle seasons are my favorite)

iZombie (only the first season)

Vampires (i wanted to be one when I was ten)

The vampire diaries (i don’t really recommend ALL of TVD it gets super frustratingly boring for me at least)

The Originals (the edgier spin off I did not like it but it’s worth mentioning)

Legacies (the only one of the three I actually recommend wholeheartedly. It’s campy it’s stupid and it’s fun also there’s a musical episode!)

My babysitter is a vampire (absolute classic but not as classic as-)

Buffy the vampire slayer (it had an awkward implied sex scene that made me laugh also has a musical episode)

What we do in the shadows (older skewed but absolutely hilarious)

True blood (be warned if you haven’t seen it. Confederate vampires abound 🤢, other than that though it’s pretty alright)

Werewolves (give me recommendations please)

Wolf Blood (absolute favorite of all time,its on Amazon prime and peacock and I Highly recommend)

Teen wolf (classic)

TVD and it’s spin-offs also count but If you want Werewolf content The Originals is probably your best bet tbh

Wolf pack (buffy cameo in the first episode, im hooked)

Miscellaneous (witches, ghosts, otherwise spooky)

Julie and the phantoms (girl accidentally summons ghosts by playing an old cd in her garage. Drama ensues. every episode has at least one song)

Binny and the ghost ( girl meets ghost boy and they fall in love, very cute. German Disney channel, is not on Disney plus the only way I know to watch it is piracy)

H2O: just add water (mermaids… need i say more)

Cursed (Arthurian but with a twist)

The imperfects (a group of 20somethings underwent experimental treatment for a condition that eventually causes them to develop supernatural powers that turn them into “monsters” lovingly called a “coming of rage” by its fans)

Dirk gently’s holistic detective agency (Elijah wood and Samuel Barnett are very lucky at solving crimes. Contains my poor meow meow Bart (love her) and also my girl crush Amanda. It’s weird and campy and I wish it had gotten more seasons)

The Witcher (I really liked season one and two!)

Charmed (the original AND the reboot are both very fun, it’s about witches)

Once upon a time (long and not paced very well but it’s fun at times, I had a crush on Peter Pan when I was a kid and his season is the best so there’s that.)

The 100 (Technically sci-fi but I’ve heard it gets supernatural at some point so when I get there I’ll probably move it, it’s kinda stupid but it’s campy and FULL absolutely brimming with hot men and lesbians and it Still got probably too many seasons)

Dead Boy Detectives (if you can’t tell I like mystery shows. GHOSTS! Ghost boys solve mysteries with their psychic friend! Has a lot of queer rep and tbh I think it’s handled better than a lot of stuff recently Especially Edwin, Jenny was a little less so but i did love that there were No homophobes I mean a few were implied but they don’t get any platform. VERY cute and very emotional at times I would rank it up there with The Imperfects as one of my Favorite modern supernatural shows. It’s a Netflix original as well so its chances of getting a second season are low but I adored it, it’s set up for at least one more season but you know how Netflix is.)

i sometimes miss having angry friends, ppl who would get mad for me. it's tiring being mad for myself, I don't like being mad. I don't want to be mad. But anger is a response to being wronged and pressed and when things are unfair. And it's really wearing on me. Hubby and i are trying to get it to where we can basically stay on the property. we're gonna be leaving every 10-12 days and staying gone a few so it's clear we're not "living" there so we don't get audited. Electricity is already hooked up, it just needs to be turned on. We have a spring we can fetch water from but that's it for water. No tap. No signal but we are hoping to get starlink. don't rly wanna support the person who owns it but it's the only choice we have for the area. We have a camping sink that works with 5 gallon tank and a foot pump so we can wash our hands and dishes when need be. We have a primitive compost toilet for now but will eventually get a fancy one that u can goth 1 and 2 in (when we can save a couple hundred or so, but we have other priorities ahead. primitive toilet requires u to pee elsewhere so the poo can dry faster from the mulch.) With electricity hooked up we can run our mini fridge, a small heater, and charge our devices. For shower we probably will come back to the rv park. Could also probably run a toaster oven to cook some things if we are unable to cook with fire. We do have lil thingy we can use for burning wood to cook, as well as a lil butane stovetop thingy as well. And the shed is still leaky so we can't exactly stay in it but we also have our own leaky rv that will suffice well enough. Just having our own space will be nice but really i am looking forward to not having to deal with the roomies.... maybe alice can come with if she finds it comfy enough. I can tolerate her messyness. I can tolerate her lack of cleanliness and setbacks in hygiene because she makes up for it by being a wonderful friend. my other 2 roomies tho.... i really can't stand them much longer.
