Obsessed with Fyodor’s as yet unknown backstory today. And not just in the ‘I need to know’ way but… idk there’s something about the way he seems to wholeheartedly believe that what he is doing will result in the removal of sin. Thinking about how he doesn’t have a god complex but is instead a follower of what he believes to be god’s will. Thinking about how he places himself as above others anyways by taking their free will from them. I think about how his ability didn’t attack him and instead seems to be working with him. The gem is in his hand, the hands he kills with, the righteous hand? I think about that gakuen profile that I can’t find anymore but I know I saw where his likes are generally good and selfless things like peace, and about how, if this is true, he’s been an extreme idealist all along. I think about how senseless violence, the people who can’t stop killing each other, seem to disgust him. That he wants to cleanse it. That he repeatedly uses the very thing he wants to cleanse as a weapon regardless. I think about him and Dazai being foils and wonder if his plan to remove the sin of ability users includes his own self-destruction. I wonder where his self-assurance in the necessity of his cruelty and the perfection of God’s intentions comes from. I wonder how old he actually is.
As funny as the idea is to me that he’s just like that… is it kind of weird that I hope whatever his deal is ends up being a gut-punch?

Approval Vs Demand in Milgram
> aka my interpretation of the clapping motif in backdraft and cat :3
We clap to show approval or appreciation, but sometimes, we also clap to make noise and put a demand on people. It's like Fuuta says, I think the clapping represents the "spectators" in both he and Kazui's lives - For Fuuta it's his fans and for Kazui it's his family, but I'll expand more on this later.
Tumblr media
The first time we hear clapping in backdraft is during the clip I showed you. Fuuta's fans clap for him when he arrives in the tunnel to 'serve justice', they approve of his actions. Through his shaky smile and the description of being "surrounded by the masses" though, we can gather that he might not be as comfortable in this environment as he previously let on. This big dramatic arrival may just be a persona put on to "impress those spectators"
Tumblr media
However, the next time we hear clapping the tone has changed. This time it's Future Fuuta watching Past Fuuta deliver the 'killing blow' to the girl. With hindsight, he knows this is the action that drives her to take her own life, and he is shown in clear distress. It's almost like he's fighting a mental battle between the demands his fans have for him to deliver justice once again, shown through their clapping, vs the added knowledge he now has that this action will land him a guilty verdict
Tumblr media
With Kazui, it's a bit different, as cat actually shows people psychically clapping during his wedding, though there's no sound. It's his parents, the mysterious brown haired woman and the bartender, clapping in approval of the ceremony.
Tumblr media
However, we know that this is all for show, quite litteraly in Kazui's head. His marriage is a performance and friends and family are the spectators. Therefore, I think the clapping during his wedding represents both approval and the perceived idea Kazui has of this being the right thing to do, lie and lead a normal life. Similarly to Fuuta, who had the idea of his cyber justice being the right thing to do, which was most likely only heightened by having an approving audience by his side.
In contrast, the clapping during the clip I showed represents a demand Kazui has come to learn to continue lying, most likely through his parents (father), and that what he wants to do, what is "yearning to be satisfied" is the wrong choice he should not choose. Kazui is implied to be drunk in this scene, staggering and clutching his aching head, and the clapping probably represents this mental battle of right and wrong, what the spectators wish and what He himself wants to do.
Tumblr media
He becomes increasingly distressed while trying to choose between the demand he has been taught to follow (represented by the overwhelming clapping) and what his intoxicated mind wishes to pursue (being his true self)
The similarities between the scenes where clapping is shown in both characters makes me think this is purposeful, a fun motif, and that the clapping represents approval to conform to the expectations others have set for you, and later pressure to continue doing so when you begin to falter.
For Fuuta, this started as approval from his fans towards his cyber justice, and ended in a battle between his past actions, encouraged by his demanding fans, and the hindsight he's now gained
For Kazui, it started as approval from his friends and family towards leading a normal and (traditionally) expected life, and ended in a battle between the demand he has perceived to continue being your grade A traditional husband, and the true feelings his heart wants to express.

Hey, you like COTL, right? Could you help me figure something out?
Why do people ship Narinder and the Lamb?
YOU ARE ONE OF TWO PEOPLE IVE MET ON THIS SITE THAT HAS ANY FORM OF RELATION TO THE GAME THAT SEEMS TO NOT SHIP NARILAMB!
And I'm not even sure about the other one
Oh I do ship them! I suppose from what I've seen it started out as like a very common joke? How most of the players that spared Narinder after defeating him ended up marrying him
Plus there's the whole mini quest series you get from him in post game where it seems he warms up to the Lamb and even ends up thanking them, I think that's pretty cute :] even if you don't ship them you could probably see them as unlikely friends at the end of it.
Then there's the domino effect of the ship being popular: people enter the fandom, see the ship is popular, then start shipping it as well because why not? Shipping is one of the biggest fandom fuels, so it's rather not surprising that the fandom latched onto something like that!
And, in the end, the creators seem to encourage the ship on Twitter a whole lot! They retweet art and interact with the community a lot in that regard, even having made some jokey official art with the two in a position where they'd be seen as a couple (as Mary and Joseph in a parody artwork for Christmas).
Nothing wrong if you don't enjoy the ship in the end, as long as you're respectful to the people that do! (Which goes both ways, of course.) The game has a lot to offer and the relationship between the Lamb and the One Who Waits is the one we get most of, so I don't think it's overall very surprising people choose to focus on them a whole lot!

you absolutely already know this, but i adore your work. i think it's hard to avoid the pressure of being surrounded by people we might consider "true artists," but the fact is that, frankly, everyone who makes art is an artist.
before this year, i hadn't drawn a complete piece in nearly three years. the line work i did produce felt abysmal and i was tempted to give up. then, i saw your comic and i thought, "wow, that's really cute, and it looks like a fun style to emulate."
i drew you, pondering me, eating grass. and it WAS fun. i forgot how fun it could be. i can draw lesbian horses, or pony!WWX throwing a chicken, or me eating grass. i can even make shitty memes! and all of it, no matter how good or how bad, is fun again.
you bring a lot of fun to people here. that's something equally as important as people who cultivate fancy line work or expert level digital painting. i'm sure that's something you know, but i hope it never hurts to hear it.
happy first season, friend! i can't wait to see the rest.
As a chronic perfectionist, it's been a long journey for me to accept that 'done is better than nothing' and that the worst critical voice is my own. Sure there's people who've gone to professional art schools, and those with a more than a decade of experience on me, but honestly? Would I tell a child their sonic drawing isn't art? Just because they have no 'experience' or 'technique'? Absolutely not. So I'm no longer saying my efforts should not count as art.
At the end of the day, art is what we choose to make it. We have the power to create whatever we want. And we are going to use it to have fun! We never lost the love and fun for creation we all had as children, we just told ourselves it wasn't enough. But it really is B*)

To be honest I love the vibe you bring around. You're like the "well actually" but like positive. You know the one classmate who argues with the teacher about the solution for half an hour and then ends up being right. And it's like both educational and a wild ride to follow along even as someone who is simultaneously in love with canon and also rejects it entirely depending on where the coin lands in the morning. Every class should have one of those people. For common good.
What I mean to say is you're lovely and I don't think anyone should get on your case for being a bit of a snob (/pos). It's a fandom and we all enjoy the source material in different ways and yours is a lot of fun. The amount of effort you clearly put into your blog is immaculate and frankly makes me starry-eyed. Congrats on the -tism tho

Aww thank uuu… I am a well actually person OTL learning new information is fun! Sharing information is fun! Being corrected allows you to learn new things and debating things can help you see new angles or find new evidence to support your own point! That last thing isn’t really a common viewpoint though which is why I have zero desire to like… directly argue with people. This is why tumblr > twitter (I can bitch about things in my own little corner of the internet and nobody has to know what post/person I’m disagreeing with & I don’t have to agonize over whether or not my manner of speaking comes off as aggressive)
Nobody’s really gotten on my case (yet) but I enjoy lamp shading my own obnoxiousness/humbling myself. It’s healthy to acknowledge that you’re not infallible/special. Built in mechanism that prevents me from becoming the tsukasa tenma of character analysis. Every time I start getting a big head about something I remind myself that I am also capable of great stupidity and my ego evens out.

okay posting this now because i feel like the surprise song combo was so intentional and i hope we get to hear more about it on ttpd !! the getaway car/august/other side of the door mashup got my gears turning and now i can’t get them to stop.
the common thread between those three songs is the third party — i wanted leave him i needed a reason, you weren’t mine to lose, was she worth this? — and i know that basically ever since the breakup people have wondered if joe cheated, and this seemed like it could have confirmed it. while i definitely see the evidence for that, it hasn’t quite seemed like the right fit to me, and after this surprise song combo i finally figured out why. i don’t think that the third party she was singing about in melbourne was an actual person, but the idea of a person.
a huge theme on midnights is what led her to being who she is now. she is both the anti-hero and bejeweled, a mastermind and the unreliable narrator in dead reader… there are so many different versions of herself. clearly she was contemplating these different versions and the implications of being each of them.
a huge theme in gothic literature are characters that are not present in the setting, but the idea of them and what they would do is so strong that they end up influencing the story anyways. this happens in rebecca, the novel that inspired tolerate it, where the main character is haunted by living in the glorious shadow that rebecca cast, an impossible standard to live up to, despite the fact that rebecca died and actually, crucially, wasn’t as great as everyone made her out to be. but it doesn’t matter that she wasn’t that great or that she’s never actually there to be truly compared to because it’s the IDEA of rebecca that’s so powerful. it’s the GHOST that haunts the narrative.
and i wonder if that was part of what drove taylor and joe apart? not an actual ~other woman~ but the idea of who taylor could have been instead. all of the other versions of herself she contemplated on midnights. the third party she seemed to be singing about. even on other albums, before this, she’s contemplated what version of herself could be loved — “i’ve been the archer, i’ve been the prey, who could ever leave me darling but who could stay?” i wonder if there was an idea of taylor (a taylor that isn’t “too big to hang out”) that was so palpable, so real, that it ended up taking up the space of another person and haunting their narrative anyways? because, like the main character in rebecca, how could she live up to the idea of a perfect life?
basically: how can you say that you love someone you can’t tell has died? did you love the real me or the version of me in your head that perfectly fit into your world?
