EuroGamer: 'BioWare knew the deepest secrets of Dragon Age lore 20 years ago, and locked it away in an uber-plot doc'
Original creator David Gaider on how "some of the big mysteries are being solved".
Rest of post under a cut due to length and possible spoilers.
"As I write about the secrets hidden in Dragon Age's mysterious Fade, and as I uncover some of them playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one question keeps rising up in my mind. How much did BioWare know about future events when first developing the series more than 20 years ago? That's a long time, and back then BioWare didn't know there would be a second game, which is why Dragon Age: Origins has an elaborate and far-reaching epilogue. Why lay so much lore-track ahead of yourself if you don't think you'll ever get there? But look more closely at Origins and there are big clues suggesting BioWare did know about future Dragon Age events. There are obvious signs in the original game, such as establishing recurring themes like Old Gods and the Blight and Archdemons. But there's also Flemeth, Morrigan's witchy mother, who's intimately linked to events in the series now - more specifically: intimately linked to Solas. Does her existence mean Solas was known about back then too? There's only one person I can think of to answer this and it's David Gaider, the original creator of Dragon Age's world and lore. We've talked before, once in a podcast and once for a piece on the magic of fantasy maps, where we discussed the creation of Dragon Age's world. And much to my surprise, when I ask him what he and the BioWare team knew back then, he says they knew it all. "By the time we released Dragon Age: Origins, we were basically sure that it was one and done, but there was, back when we made the world, an overarching plan," he says. "The way I created the world was to seed plots in various parts of the world that could be part of a game, a single game, and then there was the overall uber-plot, which I didn't know for certain that we would ever get to but I had an understanding of how it all worked together. "A lot of that was in my head until we were starting Inquisition and the writers got a little bit impatient with my memory or lack thereof, so they pinned me down and dragged the uber-plot out of me. I'd talked about it, I'd hinted at it, but never really spelled out how it all connected, so they dragged it out of me, we put it into a master lore doc, the secret lore, which we had to hide from most of the team.""
"This uber-plot document was only viewable on a need-to-know basis, he says, and only around 20 people on the team had access to it - other senior writers mostly. And even though Gaider left the Dragon Age team after Inquisition, and then eight years ago BioWare altogether, meaning he didn't work on The Veilguard at all, he believes - by looking at the events in the new game - his uber-plot lore "has more or less held up". That's impressive. What's even more impressive, or exciting, is that back then he also envisaged a potential end state for the entire Dragon Age series - a point at which it would make no sense for the series to carry on. "I always had this dream of where it would all end, the very last plot," he says, "which I won't say because who knows, we could still end up there. But the idea that this uber-plot was this sort of biggest, finite... That the final thing you could do in this world that would break it was there as a 'maybe we would get to do that one day'... There was just the idea of certain big, world-shaking things that were seeded in that arc, some of which have already come to pass, like the return of Fen'Harel." You've read that correctly: the idea to have Fen'Harel, also known as the Dread Wolf, reappear, was seeded all the way back then, way before Inquisition - the game in which he does actually reappear. But the concept for Solas, as a character who was Fen'Harel in disguise, was a newer idea. "That spawned from a conversation I had with Patrick [Weekes] and a number of other writers," Gaider says, "as an idea of 'what if you had a villain that spent an entire game where he's actually in the party and you get to know him?' Now, the god version and his larger role in the plot, yes that was known, but not that he would be presented as a character named Solas." Fen'Harel being known about means the other elven gods were known about, which means all of that stuff Solas reveals about his godly siblings - that they're not gods at all but evil elven mages he locked away behind the Veil - was known about back then too. "Oh yeah," Gaider says. "Everything that Solas tells you [at the end of Inquisition DLC, Trespasser]: it's all part of that original uber-lore - that was all in our mind." But why have so much lore if you're not certain you'll get to ever realise it? Well, to create a believable illusion. By creating an "excess" of lore, as Gaider describes it, Origins made Thedas feel like an old and believable place. A place with history, rather than a Western set that was all facade and no substance."
"BioWare also did something canny with the lore it did relay then, too: it shared it through the voices of characters living in the world, making it inherently fallible. In doing this, Dragon Age veiled its truths behind biases. The church-like organisation of the Chantry proclaims one truth, while the elves and dwarves proclaim another. Sidenote: you can experience this yourself through different racial origin stories in Dragon Age: Origins. This way, there's no one, objective, irrefutable, truth. "To get the truth, you kind of have to pick between the lines," Gaider says. So even though elven legends are coming true through the existence of Solas and The Veilguard's antagonist gods, it doesn't mean that's the one and only truth. There's truth in what the Chantry teaches and what the dwarves say, he tells me, which ignites my curiosity intensely. BioWare has also been tricksy in how it's rubbed out the lore the further back in time you go. "In general, the further the history goes back, we always would purposefully obfuscate it more and more," Gaider says - "make it more biased and more untrue no matter who was talking, just so that the absolute truth was rarely knowable. I like that idea from a world standpoint, that the player always has to wonder and bring their own beliefs to it." It leads into a founding principle of Dragon Age, which is doubt - because without it, you can't have faith, a particularly important concept in the series. It's where the whole idea of the Chantry's Maker comes from and with it, the legend about the fabled Golden City - now the Black City - at the heart of the Fade. This is the very centre of the lore web, and, I imagine, it's close to the series endpoint Gaider imagined long ago. All secrets end there. Did Gaider know what was in the Black City when he laid down Origins' lore? That's the question - and it startles me how casually he answers this. "Oh, yeah," he says. "What was in the Black City: that's the uber-plot. I knew exactly. "Was it as detailed in the first draft of the world?" he goes on. "No. I had an idea of the early history because that's where I started making the world. So the things that were true early-early: I knew exactly what the Black City was and the idea of what the elves believed, and what humans believed vis-a-vis the Chantry - that was all settled on really early. Then I expanded the world and the uber-plot bubbled out of that.""
"Gaider shows me the original cosmology design document for Dragon Age: Origins as if to prove this - or rather for the game that would become DAO. The world was known as Peldea back then. I can't share this with you because I see it via a shared screen on a video call, and because Gaider doesn't want me to, mostly because the ideas are so old they're almost unrecognisable from what's in the series now. But I can tell you it's a document that's just over a page in length, and that there's a circular diagram at the top showing the world in the middle and the spirit realm ringed around it. And on that document is reference to the Chantry's beliefs about a God located in a citadel that can be found there. Gaider says BioWare knew about Fen'Harel (the Dread Wolf) 20 years ago when it was developing Dragon Age: Origins, and that he'd one day reappear. The Fade wasn't known as the Fade back then, either, but as the Dreaming, because it's the place people go when they dream - an idea that lives on still. And if that sounds familiar to any fans of The Sandman among you, it should. "I'd say The Sandman series was probably fairly prominently in my head," says Gaider. "I liked that amorphous geography that was born from the psyche of collective humanity. I'd say yes, if I was to point at something specifically, that's probably where the very first inspiration of it took root." It's a lot to take in, but it reinforces the admiration I have for Dragon Age. Just as I have when hearing about the creation of my other favourite fantasy worlds, such as A Song of Ice and Fire, I begin to understand the magnitude - and the deliberateness - of the plotting that went on. I wonder if one day the Dragon Age series will end in the way Gaider first imagined, albeit slightly altered by the many other pairs of hands shepherding it along now. What a curious feeling it must be to know, so many years in advance, where things might go. Where that end is, I don't know, but I do know we'll take a significant step towards it in The Veilguard. After all, we're coming into contact with gods who were there at the recorded beginning of it all. "Yeah - we have access to people who can tell us the truth from first-hand experience," Gaider says, "although again, it depends on what the writers did with it. But if they continued the tradition of Dragon Age, you never know for sure if Solas is telling you everything, or what you're learning is the entire truth. "But yes, some of the big mysteries are being solved. I mean, will they one day definitively tell you about the Maker? Will we crack the big mysteries of the world and just make them answered finally? And does that ruin one of the central precepts that Dragon Age is founded upon? Maybe," he says. "Ultimately, that lore, when you make it big and you hint at it and hint at it and hint at it, it becomes a Chekhov's Gun of sorts. Eventually you got to pony up.""

CASE 28: CHOSO KAMO AND YOU SHARE A POWER!
!content!: blood, period sex..?, eating out, choso is uneducated and not beta’d, literally drinking blood.
wc: 1,002
solace: the formatting is sooo weird…
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
Choso, for his 150 years on Earth, does not know what a period is. Doesn't know why it happens, or how it affects someone. Sure, it hurts, he knows that. You've told him countless times. Cramps, you said.
But he somehow didn't understand that most people avoid having sex on these days, because, as you had explained, there's blood. Choso still doesn't get it. He means good. He doesn’t mind blood. But you did, apparently.
He thinks that you have connections to him and have a blood related cursed technique.
So you sat him down, one dreadful night, where you had your awful period, and walked him through every nook and cranny about having periods and the basics of the biological need for them.
"So... It's natural..." Choso inquires, and you nod, “but it hurts you? Because you’re not pregnant..." He seems salty about it, annoyed that women, when reaching a certain age, are pained because nature intended for them to get pregnant.
“Basically, yeah.” You’re happy he got it a tiny bit right.
"When did you get it?" He asks, and it takes a while to understand what he means.
“Uh, I think... At thirteen." You answer truthfully. Choso frowns.
“But that’s young…” Aw, he's so cute, worrying about this. Most men don't even think about it. You were so lucky to have him.
"Yean, but it's nature. Only way I can prevent them without getting pregnant is birth control and removing my uterus."
“So why don't you?" He pouts, cutie.
"Because I don't know if I want kids, and birth control has side effects I don't need right now." Chose looks at his phone and unlocks it, typing something. He's gotten used to phones, after Yuji taught him.
"Apparently, hot pockets are a good way to alleviate pain, did you know?" Of course you knew, but it's wholesome to know he's trying to help.
"Yeah, babe, I know."
"And making love, too!" The half curse exclaims, which could only mean one thing. He wants to help.
So, now you're in the shower with Choso, because you didn't want to wash the sheets, naked and bleeding on his cock.
"Does it hurt?" He asks for the nth time and you groan.
“No, babe, for the millionth time, move.” Taking that as the green light, he adjusts you, making sure you'd be steady in his arms and pulls out, dragging his long cock inside of your extra warm and wet cunt, your blood stains his pale skin and you moan.
Could this truly alleviate period pain? So far, you hadn’t had any cramps to report, so all's well. But that could change at any moment.
Then, Choso slowly enters you once more, dark eyes fixed on where you were connected bloodily. He exhales shakily, shutting his eyes, as if he was trying to hold back. And it's only now that you realize that you
were definitely more sensitive than before. Way more sensitive.
“Hey,” comes Choso’s strained voice, still painfully hard inside of you. "I don't want to hurt you, and…" He pauses, catching his breath like he just ran a marathon, even that was easy for him. “I know I’ll lose control. Can I eat you out?" Gosh, he was so polite, even
during sex. You nod, however. You didn't want a repeat of last time he hurt you. He cried so much it could’ve flooded japan.
"Are you sure, though? We can always stop, most guys don’t like touching their girls when they're on their periods.”
"I'm not like other guys, then." He carefully sets your feet down on the floor, opens the tap and lets the shower head wash in between your thighs, alongside his dick knowing the blood would crust. How sweet.
Choso gets on his knees, like he was praying for you, and swipes his tongue on your hot slit,
The first taste is addictive, forcing him to shove his tongue mside of your pussy while you gasped, throwing a leg over his shoulder. He places a securing hand on the outside of your thigh and kneads the fat as he slurped on your red cunt.
Your blood made its way to his lower face, and Choso doesn't hesitate to bury his head deeper between your legs. Your stomach churned at the idea of him consuming your blood like this.
But somehow, it was hot, and it made your pussy wetter, muscles taunter.
"Choso-ah! S'good... Don't stop..." You whine, pushing his head down and he looks up, showing his bloody canines off.
“Not gunnah." The half curse suckles on your clit, eliciting a loud moan, thankfully silenced by the sound of running water.
"Are you hurting?" Choso wiggles his tongue through your folds, you were so close... He can't stop.
"No! Faster, please!" You begs, whimpering as he bit on your cit lightly. And faster he did go.
He forced his tongue into your bloody cunt repeatedly, not even giving you time to realize you were cumming, seeing stars behind your eyelids and almost slipping from how weak your knees became.
“Fuck…” You sigh, throwing your head back against the shower wall. “Ch-Choso, you freak.” You giggle as you look down, pulling on his hair to make him look at you.
“Don’t.” The curse in question warns, his eyes seem to glow, but that’s impossible. He looked… monstrous. Feral, even.
“Don’t what..?” It’s surprising, how Choso can go from genteel and soft to mean and vicious. You could even consider it scary.
“Let me… let me eat some more…” He stares at your pussy, and you could even spot a small tear trying to slip out of his eye. “I just want to help with the pain.”
Right, the cramps. You haven’t felt any, maybe it did help, but that didn’t mean he should continue.
“It’s fine, babe. I’ll just be out of commission for a few days.” You reassure, patting his head.
“No.” Choso frowns, tongue dipping back in. “I want more.”
What have you done?

benefit part 2 - evan buckley x reader
part 1 here!
Tumblr media
Buck wakes up with his nose pressed against your hair. You’ve slept at Buck’s multiple times, even shared beds once or twice, but he never realized just how clingy you are in your sleep. Half your body is on top of his: your head is tucked underneath his chin, your arm is splayed out over his bare torso, and your right leg is hooked over his left thigh, knee brushing up against his morning wood.
Buck likes this. The domesticity, the smell of you, your warmth; Buck could get used to waking up this way all the time.
Except, he thinks soberly, that’s not what the two of you had agreed on. This was supposed to be just sex. But Buck has come to the belated realization that it could never be just anything with you.
“Buck? You awake yet?”, Eddie’s voice comes ringing through the loft from his front door. Buck’s eyes widen; he had completely forgotten that he made plans to get breakfast with him that morning. He looks at you, who had woken up to the sound. With an impressive quickness, you roll off and drop down soundlessly to hide under the bed in all your naked glory. Buck would have busted out laughing if he wasn’t so scared that Eddie was going to catch the two of you together. Neither of you would hear the end of it if the rest of the team found out about your little arrangement.
Eddie makes his way up the loft stairs and gives Buck an unimpressed look over at his sleepy, shirtless form. Buck had had the sense to throw the covers over his legs to avoid flashing Eddie.
“Hey Eds”, Buck smiles weakly.
“Morning, sleeping beauty. You able to get ready in 5, at least? I’m craving that breakfast burrito from Joe’s.”
“Oh, yeah, yeah. Just…go watch TV and I’ll be ready in a bit.” Buck says, desperately hoping Eddie doesn’t look too closely at the fact that your bra was on the floor in the corner of the room.
Eddie nods, before saying, “Maybe we can text Y/N if she wants to join us too.”
Buck lets out a startled cough at your name, but Eddie already has his back to him, walking down the stairs. A few moments pass until Buck hears the sounds of Brooklyn 99 playing downstairs.
Buck leans over and peers down at you. You have an amused smile on your face, but Buck can’t help but mouth, “you okay?”
You nod, and give him a thumbs up. You gesture at your phone, which Buck hands over to you. He watches as you open up your notes app and type out 'go grab breakfast, I’ll let myself out and lock the door' before showing him the text.
Buck nods and walks to the bathroom, all the while wondering what the heck he got himself into.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
Eddie is talking about a project Chris has for his history class while chewing on his burrito. Buck is trying really hard to pay attention, but his brain keeps providing him with unhelpful flashes of last night. He thinks he might be hallucinating, because he can even picture you sitting down in front of him.
Wait, that’s not a hallucination, you were actually here.
“Hi guys”, you smile, swiping a potato off of Eddie’s plate and popping it into your mouth, eyes sparkly and beautiful as usual. Buck is again met with a memory of last night, when you put something of his in your mouth.
Buck shakes his head, as if he can physically clear his mind from the memory. “Uh, what’re you doing here?”
“I knew you would forget so I sent her a text to join us while you were getting ready.” Eddie responds for you.
"Right, yeah." Buck nods quickly.
Eddie and you exchange glances. Buck was acting weird, weirder than normal.
While you order and promptly delve into a conversation with Eddie, Buck considers moving to another firehouse, one where he didn't have to see and work with his best friend that he was hopelessly in love with.
•• ━━━━━ ••●•• ━━━━━ ••
"Hen, can I talk to you?", Buck stammers, when they're the only two seated at the firehouse dinner table one evening.
"Sure, what's up?" Hen asks, closing the textbook she was reading.
"I... I think I have feelings for Y/N." Buck admits.
Hen continues to stare at Buck expectantly, not a single difference showing in her face after Buck's admission. "Wait, that's it? That's not news to anybody, Buck."
Buck blinks at Hen. "What?"
"Buck, you've been gone for her since she started at the 118. You've had permanent heart eyes for that girl."
"No... we're friends! Best friends!"
Hen shoots Buck a patient look. "Chim and I are best friends, Buck. You and Y/N are in a different category entirely."
"Okay, fine, whatever. It's bad, Hen. We started sleeping with each other last week and -"
"What?!"
"She's so smart and beautiful Hen, and she makes the hottest sounds when-"
"Okay, ew."
"But she doesn't want to be in a relationship and I don't know how to act around her now that I know I have feelings for her and-"
"Alright Buck, breathe." Hen motions for Buck to inhale and exhale with her hands. Hen seems thoughtful for a second, before she asks, "how do you know she doesn't want to be in a relationship?"
"I don't think a relationship was what she had in mind. She suggested we have sex casually; that it wouldn't be weird 'cause we're friends."
"That... was a horrible idea."
Buck groans and puts his head in his hands. "Well, I know that now!"
Hen smiles softly, prying Buck's hands away to hold onto them. "Buck, we all knew that you were in love with her, but she looks at you the same way. I think you guys should talk to each other. You guys might be on the same page."
Buck looks at Hen's earnest, honest face. He wasn't entirely convinced, but he knows that he couldn't keep avoiding you or clamming up the way he did at breakfast. He needed to come clean.
And then promptly move.

oooohhhh boyyyyyyyy Stuff Happened you folks, this might be obnoxious because there was a lot of exposition, let's hope I can keep it decent. As always, sending you all positive vibes in these trying times ♥
previously, in harrowcita del 9:
this happened
CHAPTER 50
30 minutes for emperor destruction, prepare the champagne
gideon is being taken by yandere twin to meet doctor reverend emperor john
she isn't very into that idea, but doesn't have much of a choice
doctor reverend emperor john is having a very important conversation with someone in the room, so gideon and yandere twin hide to listen in
and the conversation is with non other than not!dulcinea
Tumblr media
not!dulcinea is being possessed
by commander wake
I ASKED FOR THIS IN THE PREVIOUS ONE
why did you need harrow, then, you dramatic asshat?
so, basically, commander wake's name is actually a couple quotes and lyrics to eminem's song from 8 mile
Tumblr media
her name isn't amanda, it's just awake, etc.
I'd take amanda over eminem but ok
they said they are words that date back thousands of years, so we're in the future
I considered this, but not due to book reasons, just because one time I was talking to @lady-harrowhark about one time a barbie of mine was stolen when I was a kid and it somehow related to tlt, this was A Long Time Ago but I thought "what, are the books in the future?"
I have no idea if my hollywood hair barbie had anything to do with the books directly or if it was just some fandom thing @lady-harrowhark knows and I don't, but that planted the idea in my head
if it's a spoiler, don't tell me
but I didn't pick up any clues from the book until eminem
emperor's last name is gaius, which I knew from an untagged non context dashboard post
doctor reverend emperor john gaius wants to know what commander wake was doing in the ninth, because she landed there on purpose
and also is impressed that she's been a revenant for nearly 20 years and doesn't know how she got there
I think it's the sword
so, in come augustine and mercygirl
because now we're having a party
dr reverend emperor john says "Am I in trouble?" because he's the most punchable asshole in the known universe
and introduces commander wake with an evanescence quote rather than an eminem quote
yes, ok, I much prefer that, thank you
thank you, Fallen by Evanescence (2003) you changed my life
Tumblr media
so, turns out that commander wake was in cahoots with these two lyctors
but things turned south and gideon the first was sent to kill her
she went to the ninth to break into the tomb
it always comes down to the tomb
ice cube barbie is very popular
so, I was right when I said that gideon wasn't conceived Traditionally
the eggs were my clue on that bit, the eggs on the notes
they were supposed to 1) use dr reverend emperor john's genes to 2) create a baby with his blood to 3) break the blood ward to 4) open the tomb
CONVOLUTED LYCTOR PLANS
but the eggs didn't work, so commander wake decided to birth gideon herself
when I said gideon was a demigod and used hercules memes and when I compared her to superman or whatever
I was more correct than I thought
commander wake called gideon "bomb"
Tumblr media
this song could go into the gideon playlist @lady-harrowhark and I were talking about
because we didn't have enough lyctors at this party, in comes gideon the first
from battling the beast, which is what everyone was supposed to be doing, btw, just putting that out there
gideon the first will receive a lot of very clever, funny and amazing nicknames by gideon that I can't even remotely compete with
I vow to you and your prowess for nicknames, queen
gideon the first comes in, removes gideon's glasses from harrow's body, and slides them on his face
Tumblr media
commander wake me up before you go go looks at him with heart eyes
and he shoots her
gideon, things were so much easier when you didn't have a family, girl
this is too stressful
everyone is surprised that gideon the first fought the beast, the beast ran and gideon the first is alive
I am NOT SURPRISED because HE WAS FIGHTING ALONGSIDE MATI NONIUS
and ortus, and protozoa, and martita
BUT, MOST IMPORTANTLY, MATI NONIUS
Tumblr media
well done team harrow!!!
so, basically, gideon the first didn't say anything about the whole commander wake situation because he thought gideon was his
which accounts for my doubts the other recap on how I thought gideon wasn't Conceived Traditionally but there were doubts from gideon the first's side
gideon prime, gideon zero, gideon senior (all gideon jokes, not mine) says he was with her for about two years
so augustine starts explaining how they got dr reverend emperor john's genetic material through god apate major
WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED
IT'S ALWAYS THE ORGIES, ISN'T IT?
man, I'd rather not know the details, thank you
gideon the first also doesn't want to know the details
the emperor's bolthole wasn't as inexorable as it was advertised to be, turns out
it's basically a revolving door
ANYWAY
the emperor goes "so you killed her and the baby, right?"
Tumblr media
IN COMES GIDEON, INTRODUCING HERSELF
"I'm not fucking dead"
and the emperor goes "hi, not fucking dead, I'm dad"
Tumblr media
CHAPTER 51
gideon starts remembering childhood things like suffering and fighting with harrow and telling harrow that maybe she is the daughter of someone important and they don't know it
Tumblr media
"You remember how the fuck-off great aunts always used to say, suffer and learn? If they were right, Nonagesimus, how much more can we take until you and me achieve omniscience?"
man, this is rough
so, the thing about the eyes
gideon apparently has AL's eyes
whose name isn't only Annabel Lee
it's also Alecto
the alecto everyone keeps mentioning in the fandom
so, this explains why seeing gideon's eyes was like seeing a ghost to these lyctors
also why ice cube barbie had gideon's eyes
THERE ARE A LOT OF THREADS GOING ON IN THIS BOARD
GIDEON IS CONNECTED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE
NONE OF THEM GOOD
the lyctors bring back what teacher said in canaan au, about them asking dr reverend emperor john to kill AL aka Annabel Lee aka Alecto aka ice cube barbie
apparently all of them (except for gideon the first) hated her and were low key scared of her and high key scared of what might happen with her around
they think the beasts are coming partly because of her
and whatever dr reverend emperor john did to resurrect her
the emperor says he didn't kill her, he "switched her off"
not successfully, because she's been sort of roaming around
Tumblr media
mercygirl and augustine say that everything about this is very sus because what if he didn't kill AL??? and what is going on with the origin of his power???
dr reverend emperor john goes "you both do tend to go overboard on the foreplay"
Tumblr media
mercygirl and augustine figured out that harrow's true cavalier had AL's eyes
but it was impossible for a baby to be born with AL's genes
however, it was very probable that a baby had been born in the ninth with the emperor's genes
because they had been planning on that to happen
albeit in a different way, without the human intervention
so, if gideon has AL's eyes but the emperor's genes
it means AL's eyes aren't hers and the emperor's aren't his
the emperor's weird eyes are AL's and gideon's eyes are the emperor's
because.......
he achieved lyctorhood without having to slurp his cavalier aka AL
I'm very interested in this potential situation if we get gideon alive again
but everyone else is pissed off because they had to slurp their cavaliers unnecessarily
yandere twin also decides to join the chat after this
and, apparently, anastasia had figured it out too
the ninth necro who everyone said was the one who couldn't become a lyctor
the one with a room unused
until harrow
the emperor's version of events is that things went off the rails in the process and he had to kill them both
Tumblr media
augustine tells dr reverend emperor john to just stop already with his plan of destroying everything
and the emperor says that the man before his resurrection would have hated him to say that
mercygirl then goes "I'll forgive you if you tell me you didn't mean to kill my cav"
and the emperor goes "yes, I'll do whatever"
so he hugs mercygirl
and mercygirl
FUCKING DECIMATES HIM
SHE WRECKS HIM
SHE MELTS HIM INTO NOTHINGNESS
Tumblr media
gideon says she's an orphan again while I'm giving everyone a party hat and a piece of celebratory cake
I'M SORRY THIS WAS LONG but we're reaching the end of this book!!! See you next time!!!

It was now your second season. The team was proud of you, you were. Performing well and even had a few podiums. In the middle of the 2024 season came your first win and you realized how much you wanted that to happen again. To feel like a winner more often, and later your goal was to become a world champion. The goal has always been that but now..you were more determined and more excited to reach it knowing that you are capable of winning. Everything was perfect...Until it was not. People may think that it's normal to have big dreams and want them even more in your rookie era when you're still hungry for improvement and never pleased with something that was less than a podium. At least that's how you were like. Big mistake. Always pushed yourself to the limit and because you were new you didn't know when to stop. It was raining during the Belgian Grand Prix and it was your first race in such horrible weather. You were currently during the 26th lap of the race. You were wheel-to-wheel with your teammate Lando. He did have a faster pace so he was going to overtake you eventually. You defended the position with everything you had and paying more attention to him breathing down your neck, rather than your driving and where you were going was a big mistake. You rode the kerb making you lose control of the car and what was the cherry on top? Your front left wheel had a lock-up. You could barely turn and Lando couldn't avoid you either since he had another car on the outside. Worst crash of your life. You went flying and rolling into the barrier, your car looking like scrap metal and Lando with just the front wing being completely destroyed landed out of the track, near you. He got out of the car but you didn't.
What was taking you so long? He came to check up on you, talking to you, bumping your visor slightly but it was worthless. You didn't move. He got you out of the car with a panicked expression on his face and hands trembling, pulled you away from it and took your helmet off checking for signs that you were alive. The medical team quickly arrived, made sure Lando wasn't injured and quickly got you into the ambulance. Lando didn't know what happened for sure but he knew it was bad
During the post-race interview, Lando asked about you
"Y/N's crash was pretty bad. We were told she had a concussion and that she's still asleep"
Lando thanked the interviewer and bit his lip nervously. He felt guilty. Felt that if he avoided you the crash wouldn't have been that bad and that you would've been okay. His mind just replaying that scene over and over again...
After the interviews celebrations and the rest, he got showered, dressed and made his way to the hospital you were taken to. Mind blank and heart racing he waited to be given permission to visit you. He saw you still weren't awake and he hopes you'll be tomorrow.
"She's fine.. she's just resting. Tomorrow she'll wake up.."
Wrong. Every word he said. It was wrong. And later the doctors told him you were in a coma. Didn't know for how long but all Lando did when he heard the word coma was just freeze. A million thoughts were going through his brain and they were all blaming him.
A few weeks passed, then about two months which honestly felt like years for Lando. Coming to visit you whenever he could. Bringing you flowers and small gifts you'd see when you'd wake up. There were gifts from your friends as well and plenty of missed calls from your family.
You finally woke up. Your head buzzed a bit and you felt confused. What happened? Why were you there?
That didn't last for long because then it clicked. The crash, the sound of the ambulance and then..silence.
You saw all the flowers, some were already dead but the gesture was nice and it made you smile. Soon enough a nurse announced you woke up. You felt weak, your muscles were sore but it was normal after rotting in a bed for god knows how long. You pick up your phone, see all the missed calls and call everyone back to let them know that you're well and that you're finally awake. As soon as Lando got the news, he booked a flight to come see you.
You were drinking water when someone rushed in and over to you, hugging you tightly
"Hey, easy mate... it's good to see you as well Lan.."
"God I started to believe you weren't going to wake up. I'm so glad you're okay. It was all my fault I am so sorry Y/N"
The fact that Lando blamed himself made your heart sink. You were well aware none of what happened was on Lando and you tried to reassure him.
"Hey,Lan it wasn't your fault. It was raining, I got reckless and I should've been paying attention. Plus I had a front wheel lock-up so it's stupid of you to say that."
His eyes told you a lot. They seemed tired and slightly red. And god..you could tell he was on the verge of tears
"Lando it's okay don't cry mate. None of that is on you. Don't blame yourself"
You hugged him for a while and played with his hair gently. In that moment it just felt natural and you wanted to comfort him because he was your friend after all
It wasn't long before you started driving again and it felt good to be back home. You worked hard and got stronger physically and mentally which paid off. More podiums were coming your way and a few wins as well. Things were working out for you but you couldn't say the same about your teammate. His racing wasn't that bold anymore and he gave up fights so easily. Where was the guy who took risks, trying to win no matter what? He no longer had that fire..that ambition. He almost seemed frozen and afraid.
You decided to confront him about it because no driver in their right mind with the ambition of becoming a world champion would just give up their driving skills like that.
You knock on his driver's room and he replies with a shot "Come in."
You slowly open the door and peek your head inside "Lan, can we talk?"
"Yeah, sure."
You fully step into the room and close the door, crossing your arms in front of your chest and confront him
"What's up with you?"
"What do you mean? I'm fine."
You roll your eyes and walk towards him
"You don't seem to be. Something pressuring you. a You're not the same Lando I knew three months ago, the old Lando clearly didn't give up positions that easily even if he wasn't top three"
"What's a position worth fighting for if it's not a podium, hm? And taking risks isn't all that."
"Taking risks is what makes you a world champion. Lando, what's with this tragic change so suddenly? Talk to me. You're my friend as much as you're my teammate"
He sighs and rubs his face, sitting down and then looking up at you
"Since your accident. I blame myself because if I had been more careful you wouldn't have been in a coma because the accident would've been worse Y/N."
You grab a chair and sit in front of him
"Lando you don't know for sure if it would've been better and it's not your fault. You had no fucking space mate. You didn't have where to go and even if you braked the same thing would've happened because you didn't have time to brake. Stop blaming yourself. This incident only holds you back. I am over it, everyone is over it and you should get over it as well. If you want to win you have to move on."
Lando just looks down, contemplating your words but not saying anything
"You know what you're capable of and right now you're the only one holding yourself back from progressing."
You stand up to leave and when you get at the door you said a few last words before exiting.
"I hope you take my advice."
And to your surprise he did. You're happy you were able to make him realize that it wasn't his fault but knowing him you knew he was still guilty but he just locked that thought away, not so deep, into his brain. And of course, something had to go wrong.

After Rick's motivational speech, and hundreds of walkers trying to break down the barn doors at nightfall, sleep still didn't come to me. I remained wide awake, numbly looking around at my surroundings for an eternity and a half until the sun started to peek through the cracks of the walls. It was only then I started to slightly doze off. Exhaustion ached in my bones, begging for me to get a few hours of rest in the safe space while I had the chance, yet I still tossed and turned uncomfortably.
My eyes fluttered shut after the long hours of restlessness, not even registering the footsteps that were approaching until the figure sat themselves down beside me. My neck jerked a bit as I opened my eyes slowly when I felt the presence, my heart sinking a little when I saw it was Maggie. It's not that I didn't want to talk to her, I just didn't know how. I didn't know what to say. It felt stupid and inconsiderate to bring up Beth, but yet it was the only thing on my mind, and something we hadn't so much as acknowledged in weeks.
She looked me over for a few lingering moments, managing a small smile, the first one I had seen from her in a very long time. I found myself unable to hold back one of my own, watching as her eyes lit up at just my simple gesture.
At first we didn't speak, just enjoying what was left of the quiet until her voice came out just barely above a whisper. "I miss you."
The simplicity felt like a punch to the gut, but what seemed to hurt worse was the softness of her tone. She didn't sound bitter, or angry at me for avoiding her whenever I could. Just sad.
"I miss you too." I whispered, trying to swallow my emotion. "Mags, I'm so sorry. I just...I've been...I didn't know what to say; I still don't. I'm just so sorry." I admitted sadly.
She shook her head, "You don't ever need to say you're sorry to me, okay? I just needed to...actually talk to you again. I know you've been distant because of everything, and I understand why...but please-"
"I'm trying." I interrupted softly, "I had an...epiphany last night, or something," I huffed, "It made me realize what I was doing...and I just need to keep fighting. We all do. Pushing everyone away isn't the way to do that...so, I'm trying."
A tear of utter exhaustion slipped down her rosy cheek as she nodded again, "I'm trying too. Even though it feels impossible...suffering with one thing after another. But I understand the need to be alone being easier than facing whatever hell we've ended up in...believe me, I do." she sniffled.
My chest ached upon hearing her own battle with sadness, reaching out to wrap my arms around her shoulders before I could even process what I was doing, pulling her into a tight hug. She sighed shakily, feeling her arms come around my middle in an instant as her shoulders began to shake whilst she cried. And it wasn't long before her sobs coaxed my own, the two of us finally mourning the loss of Beth together, the relief feeling like no other.
"I miss her." she muttered through the tears.
I nodded slowly, "Yeah...me too."
She gripped onto me tighter, my shirt scrunching up in her grasp as we were both content with quietly crying in each other's arms. In a way, this was something that we both needed. Clearing the air, the tension, and everything else in between as I felt like I could finally look her in the eye again. Something therapeutic. Neither one of us knew how much time passed while we let everything out, but it didn't matter to me. I just knew that I had her back, and that's all I could care about right now.
Eventually we untangled our arms from one another, laughing quietly once we saw each other's tear stained cheeks. Nothing about it was funny, but the sleep deprivation was clearly catching up to the both of us.
She attempted to dry her eyes with the back of her hand, "She loved you a whole lot you know."
I smiled sadly, "I could say the same thing about you."
The sound of shuffling from just behind me is what cut the conversation short, seeing Daryl moving quietly to lean up against the wall, closing his eyes once more to block the blinding sun. I frowned at the thought of having to talk to him after everything that happened. I knew we were okay, but I just didn't know what I would say. I didn't know how to even begin to explain everything that had been running through my head, it was all too much.
Though Maggie noticed my change in emotion, "What's wrong?" she asked quietly.
My gaze turned toward her again, "What isn't wrong?" I asked bitterly, letting out a soft breath, "I have no idea...what I'm going to say to him."
She glanced past my shoulder to see where I was nodding before scoffing quietly, "You joking? That man practically kisses the dirt you walk on, it'll be alright...promise. Don't worry over it too much."
"I don't even know where to start." I muttered.
She shrugged, "Tell him everything."
I rolled my eyes slightly, "Start. I don't know where to start."
She laughed quietly, "Okay...just explain how you've been feeling, how hard it's taken a toll on you. And reassure him it has nothing to do with him."
"Okay," I agreed, "You know, with my luck I'll probably end up word vomiting all over him but...better than bottling it up, right?"
An amused smile crossed her face, "Right." she echoed, slowly standing back up to her feet, "I'm going to talk to Sasha, maybe take a walk...you're more than welcome to come with if you want."
My eyes glanced from her to Daryl a few times, thinking about how some fresh air would be nice, but in my mind, I knew what was more important. "I- uh...I think I've got some stuff to take care of first."
She glanced back over to where my eyes kept darting to, nodding in understanding before she walked over near where Sasha had been sleeping for the night. I watched as she leaned down to gently wake her, before they both headed outside the barn doors quietly to talk.
My heart felt a bit heavier as I looked back towards Daryl, seeing his eyes were still closed as he groggily attempted to wake up for the day and I sighed to myself. What was I supposed to say? How much was I going to tell him? How I was sorry for my mood swings yesterday? I felt that I was never really good at expressing my negative feelings and he deserved something that was actually worth listening to.
But I guess I was just going to have to wing it, seeing as though my body was being drawn to him faster than I anticipated.
I cautiously sat myself down next to him, the noise my boots made not going unnoticed by him as he immediately seemed to open his eyes. He jolted a bit on alert, but once he was it was just me, he relaxed greatly. It still managed to amaze me that after all we've been through, biting his head off no less than yesterday, he still looked at me with all the love in the world. He looked at me as if nothing happened, like everything was perfectly fine. But we both knew that wasn't the case.
"Hi." I whispered.
Though I internally cursed the moment the word left my mouth. Hi? What the hell was wrong with me? Well, I guess you have to start somewhere.
He chuckled softly, "Hey."
I took a deep breath, "I'm so sorry." I spoke quietly, tears already threatening to fall from my eyes from only three words, and yet I had so much more to say.
"I've been pulling away from everyone...thinking it would be easier...but believe me, pulling away from you hurt me more than you could imagine. I didn't mean any of the things I said yesterday, about letting me go...don't." I pleaded, "Because I don't want to let you go. I couldn't have asked for a more supportive husband, especially right now, being there for me even when I didn't want you to be. You've been incredible and I've just been such a bitch, and I'm just- I'm so sorry-"
The entire time I was talking, I watched as he bit his lower lip to try and keep himself together. But toward the end where my voice started to crack, he finally had enough and brought his hands up to my cheeks to wipe my tears.
"Shh," he shushed me, "It's okay, it's okay." he whispered before slowly bringing me into a hug, giving me a chance to pull away if I wanted, but that was far from what I wanted. I practically crashed into his arms and held onto him tightly like I never wanted to part from him again, but the truth was I didn't. I felt like I lost so much time with shutting myself out, yet he was the same perfect man that was always willing to wait. I didn't deserve him. I never did.
"Don't you ever say yer sorry bout that." he said a bit sternly, pulling back to look me in the eye, "Ya hear me?"
I nodded my head tearfully. "I know yer hurtin. I know why ya said the things ya said, or did the things ya did. Ya never have to explain yerself to me. M' always gonna be right here...didn't I promise ya that yesterday?"
I nodded again, "I- I just didn't want you to think that-"
"I know," he said softly, "I know, Rosie." he wiped more tears from my cheeks as he spoke in a hushed tone, "The only thing that hurt me these past few weeks was seein ya so broken. And the fact that I didn't know how to help, hurt me even more."
"I'm sorry." I repeated like a broken record.
He shook his head firmly, "Stop. Stop apologizin."
I exhaled a shuttering breath, nodding my head again, "I wanted you to know how much I didn't mean it. How much I wanted to take it back right after I said it."
"I know," he assured once more, "I won't hold it against ya...just wanna be able to be here for ya."
I shook my head slowly, "You have been. You've been so patient with me...you're perfect."
He scoffed, "I ain't perfect."
"You are to me." I stated almost firmly, wanting him to hear just how much I apricated him.
He smiled the biggest smile I had seen from him in a while, his eyes wrinkling at the corners as he leaned in to plant a brief kiss on my lips before bringing me into his embrace once more. It was like fireworks erupted in my stomach at the familiar feeling. He was always so gentle and loving, which only made me only pull him in closer. His hand traced soothing circles along my back whilst the other went up to my hair, running his fingers through my mess of curls. I missed his touch. I missed his warmth. I missed him.
He pulled back slightly after a few moments, peppering soft kisses across my skin as if he had been deprived, his beard tickling and scratching me to which I laughed into his shoulder. I heard a soft hum vibrate through his body, his arms squeezing me tighter.
"I missed that sound." he muttered quietly.
I felt my face flush a bit at the sincerity behind his voice, pulling my face back enough to look at him, "I missed you."
He tilted his head a bit, "I missed ya more, angel."
I smiled softly, pecking his lips once more before I snuggled into his side, letting out a breath of relief I felt I had been holding in for ages. His presence alone was something that I desperately needed, not knowing just how bad I needed it until I had it again.
We found ourselves talking amongst one another for what felt like forever as the morning slowly ticked by. There was simply too much to say, too much to fill in of the events that happened during the long and hopeless weeks. It felt like a breath of fresh air, having someone listen to you so intently when you could've sworn that these thoughts and feelings you brought up were pointless after feeling so small for so long.
Our voices didn't quiet down until we noticed almost everyone was slowly starting to wake now, knowing we would surely have to get a move on soon. My eyes looked around as they scattered, slowly packing their things and overhearing the hushed conversations, my gaze eventually catching sight of Rick. He was already looking toward me, his brows furrowed slightly in worry as if there was a silent question he was projecting across the space between us. I could read it clear as day.
My only response was a simple smile, assuring him that I was just fine. And that alone seemed to take some of the weight off his shoulders, nodding back toward me subtly, the exchange being for our eyes only.
But the peaceful moment was quickly cut shorter than I would've liked as the barn doors creaked loudly when they opened once more, my head tilting up a bit to see who entered the space. I assumed it was only Maggie and Sasha coming back inside considering how long they had been out. But what I didn't expect was to see a man trailing behind them, Daryl and I trading only one look before we both jumped up to our feet.
"Everyone...this is Aaron." Maggie announced.
The group perked up at the unfamiliar name, the sound of guns loading filling the air after her voice traveled around, finding myself instinctively aiming my weapon at the man as well.
I fell in line beside Rick while Daryl brushed past everyone else to look out the barn doors, sticking his head outside to glance around and make sure no one else lingered there from what he could see. I aimed my gun right at the man's head, but I didn't feel any type of fear, silently knowing I would kill him in a split second if he tried anything. My only question was why? Why the fuck did they bring him back here? Clearly, we had learned nothing from recent events.
"We met him outside, he's by himself." Maggie assured with raised hands.
"We took his weapons, and his gear." Sasha added.
I saw the two women gesturing and talking from the corner of my eye, but I never took my stare off the stranger in front of us. Everyone remained dead silent, watching as Daryl shut the wooden doors with a slam before swiftly turning around to pat him down, making sure he didn't have any hidden things under his clothes. Though in the end he didn't find anything, letting out a huff as he stepped back, watching him like a hawk. The man himself felt the tension in the room, his eyes looking all of us over a bit fearfully. Watching as he slowly became more intimidated.
"Hi," Aaron breathed, "It's nice to meet you." he greeted while attempting to take a step forward, only for Rick to send him a glare which ultimately kept him in place.
"You said he had a weapon?" Rick asked Maggie.
She nodded silently before stepping over towards him to hand over the small gun, Rick examining it in his hands for a moment before placing it behind his back, "Is there something you need?" he asked.
"He has a camp nearby. He wants us to audition for membership." Sasha informed.
I furrowed my brows, "Audition?" I asked in disbelief.
His head turned as soon as he heard me speak, "I- I wish there was another word for it. Audition makes it sound like we're some kind of a dance troupe...that's only on Friday nights." he attempted to joke, laughing lightly at his own words. But no one else followed, and he seemed to realize he was dealing with a pretty tough crowd.
He cleared his throat awkwardly, "And uh, it's not a camp. It's a community. And I think you all would make valuable additions. But it's not my call, my job is to convince you all to follow me back home."
I couldn't shake the anxious feeling that formed in my stomach that this was an awful lot like when a murder tries to get a child to hop in his van because he said he had candy. The way he worded things wasn't very convincing to me. And Rick beginning to tense from beside me only caused my nerves to grow.
"I know, if I were you I wouldn't go either. Not until I knew exactly what I was getting into..." Aaron assured before looking behind him, "Sasha, can you hand Rick my pack?"
She stared at him for a moment before reaching down to pick up his bag from the ground, walking over to Rick and handing it over, "In the front pocket there's an envelope. There's no way I could convince you to come with me just by talking about our community, that's why I brought those."
Rick opened it up, revealing the many pieces of paper inside that he easily started to look through. I dared to take my eyes off the man momentarily to glance over his shoulder to see what it was for myself, my eyes scanning multiple photographs of the community he was supposedly talking about. And he would not shut up.
"I apologize in advance for the picture quality, we just found an old camera store-"
"Nobody gives a shit." Daryl muttered.
Aaron looked over his shoulder at him with a nervous nod, "You're absolutely one hundred percent right." he spoke, my eyes still trained down to then see a picture of the front gates. "That's the first thing I wanted to show you. Because nothing I say about our community will matter unless you know you'll be safe. If you join us...you will be."
He kept going on and on about the thick walls and how nothing got through them without their say so, which was total bullshit. Even if nothing has gotten through thus far, it will. It always does.
I began to slowly tune out his voice while scanning each and every one of the images that Rick thumbed through, noticing the fact that he didn't seem to be listening to him either. The moment he hit the end of the somewhat endless pictures, he looked down at me, as if silently asking my opinion on what to do with this guy. I glanced back to see him still rambling, my mind racing as I thought of what answer to give.
I wasn't sure if we were ready to take another risk like this, and we sure as hell didn't have it in us to lose anyone else. I didn't want to deal with strangers, and judging by how big this place looked, there was going to be a lot of new people surrounding us constantly. I didn't want to go through it all over again.
My eyes panned back up to Rick's face, seeing him still waiting expectantly for any kind of indication of what I was thinking. I simply shook my head at him. And apparently that was the only answer he needed. He instantly turned to begin to walk up toward the man without a second thought, Aaron still seeming a bit unphased by the man approaching him in record speed. But before he could even blink, he fell back onto the ground harshly after Rick laid him on his ass with one single punch. It was then and only then I lowered my gun, seeing that he was passed out cold.
Everyone seemed utterly unphased with Rick's actions, except for Maggie and Sasha who quickly lowered themselves onto the ground next to him. The two looked him over carefully as they laid him down flat on his back, Daryl walking back over to search him once more just in case.
Michonne's voice sounded quietly from behind me, looking over my shoulder to see her slightly scolding Rick for what he did, seeming to believe the talk of the community. I couldn't blame her in the slightest for wanting to have hope, but everything he was spitting out almost seemed too good to be true. Rick's thoughts seemed to match mine as he didn't listen to her protests for very long, before his paranoia slipped through the cracks of the walls he attempted to build.
"We need eyes in every direction, they're coming for us." he announced, "We might not know how or when...but they are."
Maggie looked over at him in slight shock, "Sasha and I didn't even see him out there, if he wanted to hurt us he could've." she stated firmly.
But Rick ignored her, "Anyone see anything?"
"Just a lot of places to hide." Glenn muttered as he leaned further towards the small space in between the doors, squinting to try and see better into the distance.
I moved from my place, passing the few people in my way so I could come up next to him and see where he was looking. Rick demanded we keep an eye out with a slight panic in his voice and I did just that, scanning through the forest ahead of us to try and make out anything. Though I couldn't really see much from how far away we seemed to be, and who knows how many people he could potentially have out there with him.
"You see something I'm not?" Glenn asked in a hushed tone.
I shook my head, "No, nothing...we might actually have to go out there to try and find where his people are."
"If  he has any people." he clarified.
My head turned to look at him, squinting my eyes a bit while I gestured to the man still lying a few feet from us, "You can't look me in the eye and honestly tell me that this man right here, is alone out there. The guy looks like a grown eagle scouts' member for Christ's sake."
He blinked at the accuracy before his eyes settled on the ground instead, his silence alone telling me I had a point. I huffed softly to myself while glancing back outside for another moment, only to hear the man behind me suddenly laugh a little as he slowly came to.
I whipped back around to face him again, pulling out my gun to aim at his head from behind before he had the chance to get up, earning a look of disapproval from Maggie. She slowly shook her head at my actions, but I just shook my head back at her, telling her I wasn't budging.
"That's a hell of a right cross there Rick." he complimented groggily as his eyes surely still felt heavy.
Rick gestured with his hand, "Sit him up."
Maggie and Michonne moved to his aid, grasping his arms to help him up as he responded, "You're being cautious... I completely understand-"
"How many of your people are out there?" Rick asked harshly. The man hesitated to answer. "You have a flare gun to signal your people, so how many of them are there?" he asked again.
Aaron sighed, "Does it matter?"
I scoffed, "What the hell do you mean does it matter? Of course it does."
His head snapped back towards me, the end of my gun now right between his eyes as he spoke again, "I- I mean, of course it matters how many people are actually out there, but does it matter how many people I tell you are out there?"
My eyes narrowed at him, my patience thinning as he continued to speak, "Because I'm pretty sure no matter what number I say...eight, thirty-two, four hundred and forty-four, zero. No matter what I say you're not going to trust me."
"Well, it's hard to trust anybody who smiles after getting punched in the face." I pointed out as I loaded a bullet into the chamber.
He swallowed a bit thickly, "How about a guy who leaves bottles of water for you on the road?"
My heart stopped for a moment as I moved closer to press the gun up against the side of his head, causing him to laugh nervously, "How long you people been followin us?" my husband's voice cut through the thick silence.
Aaron glanced over at him, "Long enough to see that you practically ignore a pack of roamers on your trail. Long enough to see that despite a lack of food and water you never turned on each other. And long enough to see two people having a heart to heart after going through what seems like a whole lot." he finished, looking directly up to me.
His words only surprised be further, how much information he seemed to hold. But I didn't dare allow him to see how his words seemed to affect me. "You're survivors," he continued, "And you're people. Like I said- and I hope you won't punch me for saying it again, that is the most important resource in the world."
There was a long silence that followed and it seemed like we weren't getting many answers that we wanted, just answers that he wanted us to hear. I for one was getting sick of him rambling on and on, my frustration growing as I pressed the gun further into his temple to grab his attention.
When his eyes met mine, once again I asked, "How many others are out there?" my tone cold and demanding.
He sighed shakily before finally answering, "One."
I looked up instinctively to find Rick's face in the mix of the others, seeing him shaking his head at me as he copied my actions from earlier, telling me he didn't trust it one bit. Aaron looked between Rick and I, the wheels turning in his head at our silent conversation, "I knew you wouldn't believe me...if it's not words, if it's not pictures, what would it take to convince you that this is for real?"
No one answered his question, but a lightbulb seemed to appear in his head and he sat up a little straighter, disregarding the gun I still had to his head, "What if I drove you to the community?"
"No." I said immediately.
"Hey," Rick said to get my attention and held his hand out to stop me from talking, "I'm not sure how the sixteen of us are going to fit in a car you and your one friend drove down here in."
"We drove separately." he stated, "If we found a group, we wanted to be able to bring them all home, there's enough room for all of us."
"And you're parked just a couple miles away?" Carol asked.
"East on ridge road just after you hit Route 16." Aaron informed, "We wanted to get closer but then the storm came and blocked the road. We couldn't clear it."
"Yeah, you've really thought this through." Rick muttered still in disbelief.
Aaron sighed, "Rick, if I wanted to ambush you, I'd do it here. You know light the barn on fire while you slept, pick you off as you ran out the only exit...you can trust me." His eyes then moved back over to me, "And you don't have to keep a gun to my head, I won't try anything." he assured in a soft tone.
"Look at my face." I snapped.
His eyes immediately scanned my features, noticing his attention being drawn to the one thing I wanted him to see. What I wanted him to remember. I gestured towards the prominent scars, "This right here...is what happened the last time I let my guard down for a split second...so I think I'm good."
His eyes widened a little, but he didn't break eye contact as he slowly nodded, "Whatever makes you more comfortable."
His compassion threw me off a little, but I still didn't back down. I could feel everyone tense a little at the sensitive subject, and no one knew what to say next. Their minds were all racing on what to do, but I already knew my vote; we weren't going anywhere. None of us were ready to trust people again.
"I'll go check out the cars." Michonne announced, finally breaking the uncomfortable silence that fell.
"There aren't any cars." Rick spoke lowly.
"There's only one way to find out." she argued.
"We don't need to find out." he said quickly without missing a beat.
She took a step closer to him, "We do." she assured, a beat of silence passing before she continued, "You know what you know and you're sure of it...I'm not."
"Me neither." Maggie chimed in.
An unsettling feeling washed over me as I looked at the two of them in disbelief, slowly raising to my full height again and taking the gun away from Aaron's head in the process, "Hold on...have you guys forgotten the last time we tried to join a community, because I haven't."
The room was silent again as I continued to move forward towards them, "Hell, I wasn't even there and I remember how fucked up that shit was, what if this is the same thing? Do we really want to take that risk?"
"I would." Aaron piped in from behind me.
My face dropped as I turned around slowly again to face him, "Does it look like I was talking to you?"
His mouth clamped shut again, looking down toward the ground to avoid my eyes which caused a satisfied hum to escape me before I turned back to face the others. "All I'm staying is this is a big risk, and quite frankly I don't know if I'm willing to take it."
"No, we're doing this," Sasha argued, "We aren't going to let your one bad feeling ruin it for the rest of us...it's not our fault you have trust issues."
Her words cut through me like a knife as I instinctively stepped closer to her, but her hand flying towards her gun in her holster caused me to pause, my eyes traveling to it cautiously. I scoffed to myself as my eyes met hers again, continuing to slowly step closer to her, ignoring the protests of Rick from just behind my head. I didn't stop until I practically right in her face, tilting my head with narrowed eyes at the silent threat she had just made.
"Go ahead." I spoke.
She didn't meet my gaze, she simply couldn't because of her all bark no bite attitude, yet her hand didn't move either. I lowered my head a bit so she would finally look me in the eye and when I got her attention, I spoke again.
"Do it." I challenged.
I watched as her jaw clenched a few times before finally removing her hand and staying in place with her head hung low. She was really going to shoot me over a disagreement? Fuck this bitch.
I nodded my head with a scoff and backed away from her before I did something I regretted, feeling a hand on my shoulder turning me around. I came face to face with Rick as he tried to get my attention, clearly trying to prevent a fight from breaking out as he pulled me away from her.
"It wouldn't hurt to check out." Rick admitted quietly, his hand giving my shoulder a squeeze as if a silent plea not to freak out.
My eyes widened in shock, "You're kidding."
He shook his head, "If it's safe, we have nothing to worry about. We could send a group to check it out."
"And what happened to not believing this asshole five seconds ago?"
He sighed, "I'm thinking of Judith...and Carl...If this place is real and it's safe, the kids could have a life there...right?"
He knew damn well what he was doing by bringing the kids into this and it was working. Of course I knew that they both needed somewhere to grow up, not just the random shelter we found here and there, but an actual gated place. A safe place. One that they wouldn't have to be constantly watching their backs for the potential danger.
Which is the only reason why I found myself slowly nodding my head, "Okay...fine. But I'm going with that group to check the cars."
"Hell no you ain't." Daryl quickly stepped in upon hearing my assertiveness.
"I want to see for myself." I gently argued, "It'll help convince me that this is actually real...please."
He didn't get much of a chance to respond before Glenn spoke up, "I'll go too."
"Me too." Maggie offered.
I smiled at them in appreciation before looking over towards Abraham. As soon as we made eye contact, he nodded in agreement, "I'll walk with 'em." he stated while loading his gun.
Rick squeezing my shoulder caused me to look at him again, "Be safe." he said seriously.
"I will." I promised, pulling him in for a quick hug.
Once we broke away, I walked over to my bag to grab a few extra arrows, purposefully avoiding Daryl who clearly didn't like the fact that I was joining the others for the little quest. But I had all the badasses coming with me so I knew we would be fine no matter what happened. Though I knew he wouldn't let me leave without getting at least a few words in, and to no surprise, he was standing just behind me when I finally turned back around.
"Yes?" I asked sweetly, trying to butter him up at least a little.
He grumbled a little at my tone, "I don't like that yer goin out there..."
I sighed, "Yeah, well it's not up to you. Plus, I've always been able to handle myself fine, you know that better than anyone." I said as I adjusted the weapons on my frame.
He nodded, "I know...but that don't mean I gotta like it."
I smiled a little at him and stepped forward to leave a small kiss on his cheek, before pulling him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around my shoulders and cradled the back of my head with one of his rough hands, kissing the side of it tenderly.
"Stay safe, ya hear me?" he muttered into my hair.
I nodded, "You too."
And just like that, we were off.
The small group we formed walked further and further away from the others in comfortable silence, taking the opportunity to let my mind wander a bit. I wanted to trust this guy. If I was being honest, he seemed genuine, and the pictures looked to be real. But then again people had become insanely dangerous, and risks were something that this group didn't do very often with every good reason you could imagine behind it.
I wanted this place to be real so badly but I almost didn't want to admit it out loud as if it would somehow jinx it. All of us deserved a safe place to rest our heads at night and eat a decent meal, but especially the kids. I wanted this place to be real for them. I wanted them to be able to grow up in a good environment, not one that was filled with fear. We had all been through so much, practically hell and back, that I felt we earned this.
Maybe this would be it. And I guess we were all about to find out.
~ Thanks for reading!

Did you ever write a meta about the First Wizarding War?
I am just so curious about it, although we know almost nothing of it. I know in fanfictions, people tend to make the war something very open, very active, with the Order fighting the Death Eaters in the streets but it feels... off to me?
Like, first of all, how would they know when the DE attack? By the time they would learn about the attack, it's most likely the DE would already have left. And overall, when you read about the 2nd Wizarding War, they never attack place like Diallon Alley or Hogsmeade, but rather kidnap people like Ollivander and Fortescue. Which make me wonder how Voldemort was able to ask teens James and Lily to join him (like said in JK's interview).
When you read what Arthur said about this war:
"You-Know-Who and his followers sent the Dark Mark into the air whenever they killed. The terror it inspired… you have no idea, you're too young. Just picture coming home and finding the Dark Mark hovering over your house, and knowing what you're about to find inside… Everyone's worst fear… the very worst."
Well, it sounds more like they would attack people at their home, so the DE are more likely to target people when they attack, while they would cause havrock in the Muggle world. Something that made sense since they don't want to destroy the Wizarding World and the wizards.
Although to be fair, it's not like they have much place to attack in the Wizarding world: the only place we know are Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley and the Ministry.
I just have a hard time imagining how the war would be like, considering the Ministry was not taken by Voldemort. It's like this world is too small for a war of that kind.
Also, it makes me wonder what was really the role of the Order? Like what did they do? What kind of mission would they do? How would they know when to intervene? I know Remus had missions with werewolf during the 2nd war, but we don't know if he had the same during the 1st. Sirius was away busy with a mission during Harry's first birthday, but I wonder what he was doing. Was it a last minute battle?
"No, but believe me, they thought Voldemort had the right idea, they were all for the purification of the Wizarding race, getting rid of Muggle-borns and having purebloods in charge. They weren’t alone either, there were quite a few people, before Voldemort showed his true colors, who thought he had the right idea about things… They got cold feet when they saw what he was prepared to do to get power, though. But I bet my parents thought Regulus was a right little hero for joining up at first.”
It's implied people actually thought Voldemort had the right ideas, which makes me wonder if back then, the muggleborns were less accepted. What was the climate that made it happen? Was it that a bit like with jews, which is how Hitler got to powers?
Also the line in bold always interested me because it didn't feel like the Blacks knew about the Horcruxes, so I wonder what else would give them cold feet.
Sorry for the long text, I just never found someone to talk about it. Nobody seems to get me when I try to think too much about how it was like lol
Hello 👋
Honestly, this is really interesting and I have written about the first war as part of my Voldemort analysis here and here and also here and here. And I'm honestly really curious about the timeline of the first war and what exactly the Order and the DE actually did.
I would say you're right about it not being a war. I mean, for a war, you need armies and countries, and there wasn't a single army involved in this war.
The DE are somewhere between a cult and a terrorist organization. In the first war (and in the second one while Voldemort manages them, tbh) their operations are limited to more targeted killings and in general spreading fear and chaos while keeping a not-super-high death tool (in the first war) and avoiding hurting muggles when possible. Like, up until 1979, basically no one died. We have less than 10 unnamed and named characters that might've died before that and the rest died afterwards. Like, almost all deaths happened in the final 3 years of the war.
Then you have the ministry, which doesn't have an army, it has law enforcement. The aurors and DMLE are not an army and don't really function as one. They are trained to catch criminals, not to fight large-scale battles (not that there were any battles in the first war).
The Order, which if we're generous we can call a paramilitary group (but realistically it's a vigilante armed civilian group).
So, it's hardly a war when it's small-scale attacks and skirmishes fought between a cult/terrorist organization, the police, and an armed civilian group. Its timeline and death tool and how it operates as a whole really doesn't fit a war. Well, it's a terror guerilla sort of war, but not your traditional kind of war. The second Voldemort war was more of a real war than the first one, and even that wasn't a traditional war in any sense and I would hardly call it one. But at least it had battles. Like 2.5 of them.
I outlined more of the timeline here with the evidence for it, but in general:
1967ish - Voldemort returns to the UK and has his interview with Dumbledore. At this point, he already has somewhat of a following. Unclear if these were his "friends" from school or their children, but they are likely the older "friends" from school:
“Then if I were to go to the Hog’s Head tonight, I would not find a group of them — Nott, Rosier, Mulciber, Dolohov — awaiting your return? Devoted friends indeed, to travel this far with you on a snowy night, merely to wish you luck as you attempted to secure a teaching post.”
(HBP)
1970 - the war starts.
“You can’t blame them,” said Dumbledore gently. “We’ve had precious little to celebrate for eleven years.”
(PS)
Since Dumbledore says this on November 1981, it means the DE started operating in late 1970. Arthur tells us Death Eaters outnumbered the Order 20 to 1, but I think the Order only started operating later in the decade.
I believe that in the early 70s, they weren't too violent yet. There were some attacks, some chaos similar to what we see in the World Cup perhaps:
I suppose they had a few drinks tonight and couldn’t resist reminding us all that lots of them are still at large. A nice little reunion for them,” he finished disgustedly.
(GoF)
Attacks that strawn fear and unrest and stretched the ministry and the DMLE thin with how many obliviations had to be done — but no one died, not yet. At least, no one important. We know all of the Order members that died were only killed after the infamous photo was taken much later, so it seems in these early days of the war, they didn't really kill anyone perhaps a few muggles here and there (but not as many as the fandom sometimes like to think!) but no wizards died, at least not at first.
I assume this period is mostly marked by small-ish riots and growing normalization of anti-muggle and anti-muggleborn propaganda.
This is the point where Voldemort amassed his followers and purebloods like Walburga and Orion Black thought he had the right idea. Even during the time in the books, muggles are seen as beneath wizards, and muggleborns like Hermione are quietly pressured into not talking about their muggle families because no one cares. Muggleborns like Hermione and Ted Tonks clearly leave their muggle families behind and don't look back and that's accepted as the norm in the wizarding world.
Even in the 90s we see Slughorn is surprised Hermione, the muggleborn, is so talented. Bigotry is still very much present and as I calculated here, muggleborns are only around 5% of the population, with the majority being purebloods (or wizard-raised half-bloods). The blood purity agenda was always there, Voldemort didn't even believe in it himself, he just used it because it was an easily accessible platform that was just there. It was an easy way to gain followers and create unrest, so he took it. It was opportunistic.
So, in that way, yes, it is similar to Nazi Germany. Antisemitism was already there and prevalent in the culture for centuries, Hitler made use of the ideology already present and normalized it, and even made it righteous to believe in his horrid and bigoted ideology. He pushed the culture to more extremes, but the ideas and philosophies were already there, he didn't invent antisemitism in Germany. It was opportunistic. It didn't come out of nowhere and it wasn't just recent either. Antisemitism has a long history in Europe which I'm not going to go into in this post.
1975 - the war gets more violent and wizards are actually killed. We know from Pottermore that:
Eugenia Jenkins 1968 - 1975 Jenkins dealt competently with pure-blood riots during Squib Rights marches in the late sixties, but was soon confronted with the first rise of Lord Voldemort. Jenkins was soon ousted from office as inadequate to the challenge.
(From Pottermore)
It's said Jenkins was ousted from office "soon" after the rise of Voldemort, which again, suggests the more violent attacks only started mid-70s, around 1974 and 1975. From the list of deaths in the post I already linked throughout this post I posed the deaths that ousted her from office were Mr. and Mrs. Bones who we don't have a death date for and were likely important enough in the magical community to send the shockwaves of war that would get the minister kicked out of office. After all, you need something big to rock the wizarding community, a few muggle deaths aren't going to cut it.
(Also the mention of pure-blood riots earlier in the 60s show blood purity was nothing new, just something Voldemort took advantage of that was already there)
This is the point where Walburga and Orion probably got the cold feet Sirius mentioned. Because it's not just muggles and muggleborns anymore. Two pureblood wizards were killed — and that scared the shit out of purebloods who were a little smarter. The realization Voldemort would kill them too if he thought it necessary. It's not that they grew to care about muggleborns or blood traitors, it was self-interest. They realized that Voldemort didn't have any limits and that they weren't safe just because their blood was pure. That's at least, my take on it.
1976 - The Order of the Pheonix is founded
The Order of the Phoenix was likely founded around 1976-1977 after Voldemort and the DE got more violent and a few people actually died and it became clear to Dumbledore the ministry couldn't handle it on their own.
I believe the Order was kinda late to the party (considering how late Dumbledore was when dealing with Grindlewald). I think he advised the ministry on what to do and really hoped the ministry and the DMLE could resolve it at first. When it appeared they couldn't, that's when he founded the Order.
Now, you're right, the first war doesn't seem to have had any actual battles, my guess is that is was as I mentioned above — targeted attacks and skirmishes.
During the first war, Voldemort holds a pretty tight leash on his Death Eaters and who they kill. That's why they kill at homes and kill only specific ministry personnel and Order members for the most part. It's very targeted and specific. They aren't rounding up muggleborns as Lupin says these laws were new in the second war:
“People won’t let this happen,” said Ron. “It is happening, Ron,’; said Lupin. “Muggle-borns are being rounded up as we speak.”
(DH)
This is only in the second war. In the first one, there was no muggleborn registry or compulsive attendance at Hogwarts. The first war was all targeted terror attacks. The DE didn't have the ministry the way they did in the second one. Yes, they had quite a few members in the ministry who probably tried to pass various laws, but it wasn't the complete control they had in 1997-1998.
I assume, what the Order did in these years, was try to gain intelligence about where and when these attacks would happen so they could wait for the Death Eaters there. Again, sort of skirmish warfare and not quite open battles. Very few combatants were probably present for each of these fights.
Most of the Order missions would've been along the lines of:
Protecting expected DE targets
Recon missions and gaining intelligence through various means
Blocking DE in the ministry from getting the intel they are after or passing their laws.
Stuff that is more targeted and doesn't require a full-scale army.
1980 - The Prophecy and Potters going into hiding
(Edit: More notes regarding the timing of the photo and corrections to this section here. James and Lily went into hiding in the winter of 1980, but the Order's photo was taken while James and Lily were in hiding in July 1981, meaning all the Order members died in the 4 months between Harry's birthday and the end of the war)
The prophecy was made about two months before Harry was born:
He stepped forward. Not as tall as Ron, he had to crane his neck to read the yellowish label affixed to the shelf right beneath the dusty glass ball. In spidery writing was written a date of some sixteen years previously, and below that: S. P. T. to A. P. W. B. D. Dark Lord and (?) Harry Potter
(OotP)
We also know from Harry's birthdate that Lily would've gotten pregnant with him around late October 1979. Due to how the Fidelius Charm works I believe the Potters went into hiding before Harry was born, right after the Prophecy was made, so around May 1980. All this means the photo Moody shows Harry was taken at some point in 1979 or early 1980 before Lily's stomach was showing with the pregnancy, but I'm leaning towards late 1979.
This means that almost all deaths in the war (and all the deaths of the Order) happened after 1979. This was probably caused by two things:
Voldemort escalating for some reason (after 1980 the prophecy might've had a hand in the escalation of violence for various reasons I discussed in the linked posts)
Wormtail started spying mid-1980:
“DON’T LIE!” bellowed Black. “YOU’D BEEN PASSING INFORMATION TO HIM FOR A YEAR BEFORE LILY AND JAMES DIED! YOU WERE HIS SPY!”
(PoA)
So it's possible Wormtail revealed exactly where and when the Order was waiting for the DE and the DE could get the jump on them with more wizards than the Order thought there would be.
These two combined factors practically wiped out most of the first Order.
But we're still talking about skirmishes, just larger ones with a higher death tool, but still no large-scale battles like the Battle of Hogwarts. Enlisting the giants wasn't really because Voldemort used them in the war, there were no battles to use them in. They were a threat, kinda like nukes. It was something you have so your enemies won't attack you. Werewolves were similar, although they were probably employed in some of the skirmishes.
This time period since 1979 is probably when this quote from Sirius becomes the case:
“Imagine that Voldemort’s powerful now. You don’t know who his supporters are, you don’t know who’s working for him and who isn’t; you know he can control people so that they do terrible things without being able to stop themselves. You’re scared for yourself, and your family, and your friends. Every week, news comes of more deaths, more disappearances, more torturing . . . the Ministry of Magic’s in disarray, they don’t know what to do, they’re trying to keep everything hidden from the Muggles, but meanwhile, Muggles are dying too. Terror everywhere . . . panic . . . confusion . . . that’s how it used to be.
(GoF)
More wizards are now being killed/targeted. Most of them probably get tortured/imprisoned rather than killed. Like Neville says about the Carrows:
“Doesn’t matter. They don’t want to spill too much pure blood, so they’ll torture us a bit if we’re mouthy but they won’t actually kill us.”
(DH)
These are terror attacks meant to create compliance. So most are tortured, kidnapped as ransom and assurance of loyalty, or imperious rather than killed. Those that are killed would only be those that really have no hope to turn them onside — like the Order, hence why Voldemort allowed them to be killed.
1980 - The added deaths and skirmishes caused another minister to be kicked out of office:
Harold Minchum 1975 - 1980 Seen as a hard-liner, he placed even more Dementors around Azkaban, but was unable to contain what looked like Voldemort’s unstoppable rise to power.
(From Pottermore)
As I mentioned, in the final years of the war, shit got way worse with more deaths happening in the span of these 3 years than all the 8 years of "war" before combined. So another minister who doesn't know how to crack down on the terror organization is kicked out.
October 1981 - Voldemort goes after the Potters and the war ends.
And we know what happens from here.
These are my thoughts about the timeline of the first war and how it went. We don't know as much about it as I would've liked to know, but this is my impression of how it went down more or less.

hey buds I'm up shit's creek with a paper overdue and work early in the morning so here. if this sees the light of day
. . . .
To be loved is to be seen.
Sentiments scrawled into poetry books he'd read on occasion (just to get the hype of them, mostly. Keigo's mind isn't patient enough to decipher poetry to the extent they deserve) that compound that over and over and over. Seeing is love. Knowing is love.
But to know Keigo Takami is to know far too much. And none of it's good.
Enter you. Exhilarating, earth-shattering you, and suddenly someone sees him. It took you, oh, two dates to begin picking him apart. An intimate little experiment beginning the moment you invited him over after another successful date night (Keigo's too much of a gentleman to say 'no', after all. Especially when you give him that look) and every day since you've surprised him with how observant you are.
"Here! I stopped at a cafe on the way here. Extra sugar and a bit of vanilla syrup? Makes it a little more sweet," you said nonchalantly in his office one day, a popular stop for you on the way to your own job and it takes Keigo's entire energy not to leave you with him. More than that, though, he's stunned.
Did he ever mention his caffeine tastes to you?
"Oh, hey, I was thinking tonight we could watch that horror movie you talked about! You know, the one with all the bad special effects? I think it's, like, three bucks online to rent!" You offered to him as you two lounged on your couch late one night and Keigo again reels. Did he once mention he was into bad horror films? Did he?!
Mind reading wasn't your quirk, last he thought. Maybe lucky guessing is.
But it wasn't until one night that the sentiment of those stupid poems hit him in full force. Another long day of playing double-agent left him spent. Exhausted. He had been forced to turn the other way during an emergency, one that ended in a number of injuries and, to add to the nausea already building in his throat, two fatalities.
The HPSC president tried and failed to comfort him ("Your current duties are to be your priority. Those people were just in the wrong place at the wrong time") and when he arrived at your apartment for another date, he tried to put on the routine. A doting boyfriend whose eyes shined brightly, hands moved gently, and never left you dissatisfied in any sense.
Except, you seemed to read through him.
"Come here." You said, watching him walk further into the room after leaving his coat and shoes by your door. You held your hand out to him, a siren call towards you, and he was powerless to withstand it even if he wanted to.
He grabbed your hand, preparing to pull you up into his arms until your lips gently pressed against his knuckles. He never knew what books meant when they said 'their breathing hitched', but here Keigo's throat clogged.
You opened your eyes to look up at him, lips still brushing against his knuckles as you spoke. "Bad day, huh?
Mind reading quirk. Had to be. "Long day, sweetheart."
You kissed his hand again, spreading open his fingers to trace your lips down to his palm, kissing the warm spot softly. "A bad long day, then."
He only hummed in response, studying you. Trying to find out where you had found a crack on him that you saw how shitty he felt. How shitty today had been.
You didn't ask him what happened, and he's grateful. You know better. It shouldn't be this way (he should be honest with you), but you're patient. Kind. You pulled him to lay on top of you on the couch and Keigo ignored every alarm in his head just to give in to you. To let you guide his head to rest on your chest as his wings puffed out, creating a perfect crimson blanket for the both of you.
He's exhausted. Spent. Drained. But you already knew that. You must have.
You've seen him this whole time, and while that strikes newfound fears into him, it's also almost nice. It meant less talking for him, more deep understanding of how he is and how you are and how this situationship-dare he say relationship-would work.
Maybe seeing Keigo Takami isn't necessarily a bad thing. At least, not yet.
And for now, he'll take that.

Hello blusy!
I would like to request something about Donna dating reader and everything going great but reader's family is hesitant about the relationship and that makes reader sad. Donna sensing how important family is to reader decides to get out of her comfort zone and tries to make reader's family more comfortable around her like making toys for readers little nieces and nephews after seeing their parents don't have much money to buy them a lot of toys. and ironically the little ones of the family are the ones more comfortable around donna and angie. Maybe one day reader gets sick and her family witness how donna is there for her and taking care of her and that makes them change their mind like "okay, maybe she is not that bad like they say".
Thank you!
Yesss!!!! Thank you for your request!!! I hope you like it and sorry about the language mistakes!!!! :))))

Tumblr media
“Ugh, mom,” you protested while your mother hugged you as if she hadn't seen you in years.
“(Y/N), you don't know how happy I am to see you,” the woman said, with shining eyes, as if she really thought that for a moment she had lost you. “I thought I would never…”
“It's not that big of a deal,” you said with an amused smile, downplaying it while you made a gesture with your hands.
“Young lady,” your father whispered, crossing his arms as you entered the house. “We were really worried about you. You didn't come last week.”
“Oh, well, I had a terrible cold,” you explained, accompanying your parents to the living room. “I was too tired to come.”
“It was definitely a cold,” your father said with a certain irony that made you roll your eyes. “You could have called.”
“Sorry, dad, I was too busy with the fever,” you said amused, relaxing in what was once your home. “I've told you a thousand times that I'm fine.”
They both looked at each other with a strange expression, sitting next to you and bringing you a cup of tea.
“I know those looks,” you said suspiciously, frowning. “What's wrong? Did something happen with Mihaela? Oh, don't tell me she's pregnant again.”
“Your sister is perfectly fine, (Y/N),” your mother said with a serious tone.
“Great,” you said nodding, blowing on your cup. “Me too.”
“Allow me to doubt it,” your father murmured, with his eyebrows raised.
“Look at me, I’m fine,” you said spreading your arms in an exaggerated way. “I've never been better,” you said the last sentence with a slightly darker tone, knowing what they really meant. “(Y/N), honey, why don't you come home?” your mother finally asked, giving vent to something you knew she was holding back. “You'd be better off with your parents.”
“Mm, I see,” you said, huffing again, leaning your back on the couch as you shook your head. “There's no way I'm coming to visit you without you trying to drag me back into your shelter, huh?”
“We only want the best for you,” your mother said, with a worried expression.
“What about Mihaela? You don't demand that she come back to live with you,” you protested, in a somewhat childish way.
“Mihaela has formed a wonderful family, (Y/N),” your father asserted. “A completely normal one.”
“Oh, of course, I'm not normal,” you said in a mocking tone, narrowing your eyes. “I've heard this before.”
“What your father means, (Y/N),” your mother interrupted, giving her husband a fiery look. “It's that your sister doesn't give us any reason to worry about.”
“Doesn’t she?” you said, blinking petulantly. “So, according to you, I should be married and giving you lots of grandchildren, right?”
“Sometimes I dream that's true, (Y/N),” the man said, with a satisfied look. “At least she doesn't live with a dangerous crazy woman.”
“Hey,” you sighed annoyed, shaking your head. “You've set a new record, dad, it didn't take you even 5 minutes to mess with Donna, fabulous.”
“Donna…” he whispered, with a fake smile. “Of course, I should have guessed that my youngest daughter would get involved with the freakiest freak in the village.”
“Marcus… Don't say things like that, what if she can hear you?” your mother said, looking around.
At that comment you couldn't help but laugh ironically, swallowing the words that wanted to come out of your mouth, reflecting before starting another argument with your parents, another argument about your girlfriend.
“Can't you understand that I love her?” you said annoyed. “Besides, Donna is a Lord, I couldn't be more protected with anyone.”
“We, (Y/N), we are the ones who need to be protected from them,” your father said, always finding a scathing answer for everything you said. “Protectors of the village… well, they're just a bunch of heartless monsters. Sorry for worrying that one of them seduced my daughter.”
“Seduced?” you asked, leaning forward, starting to get nervous. “There are at least two things wrong with what you said. First, Donna isn't a monster, and second… to be fair, I seduced her.”
“Gods…” your mother sighed, probably imagining horrible things in her head. “Couldn't you notice someone normal, like your sister did?”
“You know that my tastes are special,” you said haughtily, looking at your nails. “Hey, I understand that you have doubts, but I assure you that Donna is a nice soul, she takes care of me, loves me and protects me.”
“She's crazy, (Y/N), everyone knows it, you knew it since you were little,” your mother said, putting a protective hand on your shoulder. “It's just a matter of time before she hurts you.”
“Ugh, how many times do I have to say it? Donna isn't crazy, she's sick,” you said, defending your girlfriend, as always. “If I had lived in isolation, enduring the mockery of children, my sister would have died and my parents would have thrown themselves into the void in front of me, I wouldn't be right in the head either.”
“I see she has taught you well to defend her,” your father whispered, darkening his gaze. “What else has she taught you, (Y/N)?”
“Do you really want to know?” you challenged with a sharp tone, internally trying to calm your words.
“(Y/N),” your mother protested at your rudeness. “It doesn't matter what you say, we are older, we have known Lady Beneviento since long before you were born and we know the horrible things she has done.”
“You know how to judge others, don't you? You seem good at it,” you said with a slightly childish tone. “Look, I'm 22 years old. I'm old enough to judge for myself.”
“You're a brat, (Y/N),” your father said, pointing at you with his finger. “Your mother also thought she was old enough at your age, and what a coincidence, Mihaela was born shortly after.”
“Well, don't worry, I'm not pregnant,” you said mockingly, looking away from your parents. “Hey... I know Donna seems terrible and that she's... a little scary, but I assure you that she's a kind, loving and sensitive woman. She has nothing to do with what those stupid rumors say.”
“A rumor can be false, (Y/N), but hundreds of them are closer to the truth,” your mother commented, with that tone of false wisdom that got on your nerves. “You're in love, you probably have her idealized, and when you realize your mistake we won't be able to save you.”
“Save me? That was a good one,” you said, shaking your head, moving your legs nervously. “I don't need anyone to save me, mom. Donna isn't like they say, but I care less and less that you don't believe me.”
“You should care, young lady,” your father said with the same smug tone. “Don't you understand that we're doing this for your own sake?”
“And you don't understand that Donna is good for me?” you counterattacked, with a harsher tone. “If you're going to be messing with Donna every time I come to see you, maybe I have to stop coming.”
“Lady Beneviento is a sinister and dangerous woman, I can't sleep peacefully knowing that you live with someone like that,” your mother said, making your anger increase.
“If you knew her you wouldn't say those things,” you murmured with an indignant pose, thinking coldly about your words.
“No, thank you, I'm proud that none of those abominations have ever entered my house,” the man said with a sarcastic smile. “That woman is not welcome here, (Y/N).”
“Wait, Marcus...” your mother whispered, thoughtfully. “What if the girl is right? Maybe we should give her the benefit of the doubt.”
“Svetlana, don't be condescending, a brat like her doesn't have the right to the benefit of the doubt,” your father growled. “Keep that freak away from this house, (Y/N), and away from you.”
“Insult her again, come on,” you said, standing up threateningly. “If you don't accept Donna it means you don't accept me, so I don't want to waste my time in this house anymore,” you said angrily, walking to grab your coat and walk out the door.
“(Y/N)…” your mother sighed, chasing you, while your father didn't move, staying on the couch with a mocking laugh. “(Y/N), wait…”
“No, mom, you're always judging me, I've been living with Donna for a year and I've never given you any reason to worry about, but you don't understand, you still don't understand,” you said, opening the door. “My sister married an idiot and you've never said anything to her, is it because Donna's a woman?”
“No, honey, it's because of who that woman is,” your mother said, closing the door a little behind you.
“It doesn't matter how many times I tell you that the rumors are wrong, right? Why bother to keep insisting? I'm leaving, we'll see each other later,” you said, turning around abruptly, ready to go back home.
“Wait, (Y/N),” your mother interrupted with a hand on your arm. “Wait, my girl. Listen, next week your nephews are coming to eat at home, and I would like you to come too.
“I, of course,” you hissed, blinking impatiently. “I'll think about it.”
“Maybe you could... I don't know, maybe it would be a good time for us to meet... Lady Beneviento,” your mother hinted, making you raise your eyebrows.
“Mm, do you want to meet Donna? It's funny, you just said that she's a dangerous crazy woman,” you said suspiciously.
“I honestly don't have any desire to meet... that woman, but maybe I could feel relieved if I saw for myself that she's not a danger to you,” the woman explained, making you think.
“Donna doesn't leave the house, I doubt it's possible,” you muttered to yourself, scratching the back of your neck. “Can't you just trust my word?”
“We trust your sister's word and now we have two grandchildren,” your mother joked, which caused you to give a slight smile to her. “Sometimes you have to see it to believe it, (Y/N).”
“I don't promise you anything,” you whispered, really thinking about that possibility. “Besides, dad doesn't want her to enter his house.”
“Oh, let me convince your father, you know that he softens a lot when he's with the kids,” she said amused, putting your clothes back on in a motherly way.
“I assure you that it is much easier to convince that stubborn old man than Donna, but well, I will try,” you said, walking back home.
Visits to your parents always had a bitter taste, an almost unbearable tension that you had to go through. For you, your family was important, really important, and your new circumstances didn’t prevent you from continuing to maintain contact.
You were a simple villager, born into a humble family, with no outstanding features beyond a certain ease with words. Your destiny was never written, it was always a messy scribble written with erasable ink. One day, the day when, by chance, you met Donna Beneviento, Lord of the village, the words were finally written permanently, indelible.
Donna was a strange woman, yes, sick and tormented by her past. She had been alone for years, fulfilling her duties to the village, protecting it, keeping it under the protection of the Black Gods. You were no stranger to the rumors, to the terrible things she did in the past. You never gave importance to those acts of self-defense or desperate moves.
She was… cultured, sensitive, tremendously intelligent and she was longing to have someone who really understood her, someone who would brutally end her loneliness, forever. Of course you didn't think that it was you.
Her beauty hidden by a horrible veil, the sale of her soul to the Gods, her worries, her complexes, her insecurities, soon became discoveries for you, things that made the lady in black more and more interesting.
Falling in love with her was not difficult, her falling in love with you was just a matter of days. Contrary to what anyone might think, your life wasn’t a torment of hallucinations and nightmares, but quite the opposite, it was a valley full of light and affection, of kisses, hugs, words of love, strong and unbreakable feelings.
Of course you remember the day when you had no choice but to tell your parents who was occupying your thoughts, with whom you would spend the rest of your life. To say that they were surprised would be to understate it. You argued with them, your mother cried, your father cried for revenge…
During that whole year you did nothing but show off the Italian's goodness to them, beg them to stop worrying and pay attention to partially false rumors. They never believed you, every time you went to visit them it was the same story. Worry, fear, childish strategies to get you to return to them…
No one, not even your family could get you to stop loving Donna, no one, never, but sometimes, just sometimes, you wished the situation would change, that your parents would accept your decisions and stop thinking you were just an immature brat.
You had found the love of your life and, having clear where you wanted to be, your next goal became to achieve that pleasant coexistence between the two most important things in your life, Donna and your family.
“Tesoro, are you okay? You haven't tried the lasagna, don't you like it?” the lady in black asked, while you were having dinner in silence, as always.
You shook your head as you played with your food, submerged in a sea of thoughts and helplessness that threatened to disturb your happiness.
“I love your lasagna, really,” you said sighing, starting to eat your dinner so as not to worry your girlfriend absurdly.
“Is something wrong, (Y/N)? Are you feeling sick again?” the lady asked again, with that worried glint in her eye that you adored.
Seriously, how could your parents doubt her? The hard thing was getting her to let you breathe.
“Mm? No, no, I'm fine,” you said with a confident tone, nodding confidently.
“You shouldn't leave the house yet, you could suffer a relapse,” Donna said, with a dark look.
“Nonsense, I'm fine,” you said amused, suppressing a cough that revealed that perhaps you hadn't fully recovered. “I need some wine.”
Donna smiled tenderly, serving you a glass in an elegant manner.
“Prego…” she whispered, leaving the bottle on the table and studying you with her gaze. “Is anything worrying you?”
“No, nothing,” you lied, with a sigh that revealed your true thoughts.
As expected, the lady in black wasn’t the most versed in interpreting gestures or typical human behavior. Poor thing, she spent too much time alone.
“Donna,” you said, drawing her attention with a frown at her involuntary indifference. “Hey, look at me. It's obvious that something is worrying me.”
“Oh, um... is something wrong?” she asked confused, stopping eating. “You told me you were fine.”
“Please, it was obviously a lie,” you joked, shaking your head. “Come on, try again, darling.”
“I... Is something wrong?” she asked  nervously, confused by your much more casual attitude, by your heart's attempt to give back to the brunette all the years that cruel fate had taken from her.
“Yes,” you sighed, finishing your dinner and taking a sip of wine. “I argued with my parents again,” you finally said, with a sad tone.
“I'm so sorry,” Donna said, reaching out her hand to caress yours tenderly. “It was my fault, right?”
“No, well…” you said, unsure if it was the right answer. “It's not your fault, darling, it's just that they are… stubborn,” you said with a slightly more relaxed tone. “They are incapable of accepting what we have.”
“It’s my fault then,” she murmured, wiping her face with a napkin and lowering her gaze. “They must think I'm a monster.”
“No,” you lied again, playing with her hand, caressing it gently so she wouldn't get too nervous.
A crisis was the last thing you needed that day.
“It's not your fault, Donna, it's them who... Ugh, they think I don't have enough judgment to decide who I want to spend the rest of my life with,” you commented, rolling your eyes. “What nonsense, my sister's husband is a jerk and they never told her anything.”
“He wasn't a Lord,” the lady whispered, shaking her head. “They just want to protect you... from me.”
“No, no, no, Donna, don't start with your super-powerful-Lord complex” you said moving your other hand and studying her nervous gestures, the trembling of her hand in yours. “I love you just the way you are, my love, I don't care if you're a Lord or...”
“Or a nutcase,” she finished, lowering her gaze again.
“Well, they can say whatever they want,” you finally sighed, finishing your glass of wine. “I don't care what they think of you, I know it's not like that. Damn it, they judge me when both my mother and my sister got pregnant by two stupid oafs, do they really think I would do the same?”
The lady choked on her drink at your joking tone, taking everything you said seriously again.
“(Y/N)..., n-no, I don't think…” she said somewhat nervously, with a fake laugh.
“I'm just saying it's unfair,” you said, rolling your eyes again at her innocence.
“Yes, but don't worry, tesoro, I don't care what they think of me,” she said, downplaying it.
“I do care, Donna. They're just stupid rumors,” you protested, crossing your arms.
“Not everything is rumors,” the lady whispered, looking away, embarrassed. “You know that, (Y/N)”
“W-Well, what does it matter? We've all made mistakes in the past, or killed someone, or… well, not that but…”
Donna shook her head, with a mix of pain and amusement at your stupid way of excusing the Lord for… well, being a Lord.
“(Y/N), vieni,” she said, gesturing for you to get up, a gesture you obeyed, letting her sit you on her lap with an elegant movement. “Amore mio… don't give it any importance, everything is fine.”
You sighed, letting her lips rest on yours slowly, in one of those kisses that melted you completely.
“Yes, Donna, but… it's frustrating, they say those horrible things because they don't know you,” you murmured, playing playfully with her black hair, pouting. “That no one is able to see the wonderful woman you are makes me angry.”
“The only thing I care about is that you think that way, even if you're wrong,” your girlfriend whispered, kissing you again, giving you that tenderness you needed at that moment. “Mm, let's go pick this up, okay? It's been a long day.”
The time finally came for the sheets to warm your body a little. You were exhausted, still recovering from the flu you had a week ago, and with everything that had happened, you just wanted to rest.
Donna was reading beside you as always, stroking your head distractedly while you daydreamed suddenly remembering something important, something you had to try.
“Donna,” you said, getting her attention, making her put the book down and nod for you to talk. “Next week I have to go to have lunch with my parents, my nephews are coming and…”
“Mm, well, I guess I can't do anything to stop you from leaving me alone,” she whispered in a sad tone.
Yes, it had been hard for you to fight her madness, her jealousy, her reluctance to stay alone in that mansion again.
“Yes, well…” you said, scratching the back of your neck, keeping her gaze, something difficult to do due to the spark of jealousy in her eye. “I-I want to ask you a favor.”
“If it's in my hands, I'll do it,” she said in a stoic, confident tone.
“Yes, um…” you stammered, regretting the proposal you were going to make her. “My nephews, Niko and Olga, you know that their family doesn't have much money and…”
“How much do they need?” Donna offered immediately, without thinking.
“No, no, it's not that,” you stammered, juggling in your mind to avoid that awkward moment. “What I mean is that their parents can't buy them many toys and they have to share them.”
“What's the point, tesoro?” the lady asked, impatient with your stammering.
“Well, you make dolls so… I thought that if you don't have much work, you could make them some toys, you know…” you asked uncertainly.
She nodded without hesitation, looking for a notebook on her table, where she used to write down orders.
“Sure, of course,” she said with a smile, opening the notebook. “It's my job. Tell me, what do your nephews like?”
“Niko is a fan of racing cars and Olga… Well, it's not hard to please her, one of those cheesy dolls you make will do, Oh, I mean… one of your fantastic dolls,” you said amused.
“Mm,” Donna murmured, writing things down in the notebook and laughing at your innocent mistake. “Una macchina… va bene. I'll need to ask the Duke for some materials, but it's no problem.”
“See? You're wonderful, my love,” you said, stealing a deep kiss from her while she laughed at your attack of affection.
“I would do anything to see you happy, you know that,” the lady whispered, kissing you again, brushing your hair out of your face.
“I know,” you whispered confused, thinking about what you really wanted to tell her. “Good night, Donna,” you said romantically, kissing her for the last time and turning off the light.
You weren't able to sleep, because your mother's offer was still in your head. Maybe, just maybe, it would be a good idea to try to get Donna to meet your family, although you knew it was a bit complicated.
“Um, Donna…” you said after a few minutes, turning the light back on and making the lady grunt.
“Cosa…?”
“I have to ask you another favor,” you said sitting on the bed, playing with your hands. “I would like you to come with me.”
“Dove?” she asked, rubbing her eye, with a hoarse voice.
“To my house, to my parents' house,” you said cautiously.
 “No,” Donna said dryly, with a suddenly cold expression.
“I was expecting that answer…” you whispered to yourself. “Come on, darling, it could be a perfect occasion to prove they’re wrong, for them to get to know you.”
“I don't want them to know me, I don't need them to know me, (Y/N), no,” she repeated again, crossing her arms with childish arrogance.
“But I do,” you sighed, bringing your hands together. “Donna, please, it would be very important for me.”
“I'm sorry, no,” the brunette insisted, making you growl.
“I thought my parents were stubborn…” you murmured, squeezing your eyes with your fingers. “It's not a trap, I promise, I just want my parents to see how you really are, that you love and care for me.”
“I know I love you, you know I love you. That's enough,” she said, looking away with a sharp gesture.
“Ugh, Donna,” you said, crossing your arms with another groan. “Come on, my nephews are going, I'm sure they'll...”
“Nephews?” a shrill voice burst into the bedroom.
The Angie doll appeared, comically walking and climbing the bed while you both followed her with your eyes.
“Hey, were you spying?” you asked as the doll climbed towards her owner. “You shouldn't listen to other people's conversations.”
“I wasn't spying, silly, silly, you just talk too loud,” Angie said, with her hands on her hips.
“Oh,” you said blinking with a cocky smile. “Since when do you dedicate yourself to listening behind the door? Do you always do it?”
“Unfortunately,” the puppet murmured, letting herself fall between you two. “Let's see, let's see, have I heard anything about some nephews?”
“My nephews, next week I'll eat with my parents and them,” you explained, having no reason to lie to the rebellious and shameless counterpart of the doll maker.
“Oh, oh, are they children?” Angie asked, getting too close to you.
“Yes, they are 7 and 8 years old,” you said amused.
“Oh, interesting...”
You definitely couldn't waste that unique opportunity.
“Do you like children, Angie?” you asked curiously, while the lady stared at her, also annoyed with her unwanted intrusion.
“Of course I like children. They are the only ones who want to play with me, not like you, boring, clingy fools,” the doll said, pointing at you mockingly.
“You would like to play with them, wouldn't you?” you asked in a sweet tone, making the brunette turn her head towards you abruptly, knowing, surely, what you intended.
“Yes, yes, yes,” the doll said, excited.
“It's a shame,” you sighed, pretending sadness. “I've told Donna to come with me, but she doesn't want to.”
“Why? Silly Donna…” Angie said, growling comically at her owner, now harassing her.
-Angie, don't get involved in our affairs –the lady hissed, pushing her away from her body. –I said no, and that's no.
“You say you'd do anything to make me happy…” you said in a low tone, a little sadder, bordering on disappointment. “This would make me very happy.”
“(Y/N), I wouldn't…” Donna said, shaking her head.
“Silly Donna, listen to the other silly, it would make her very happy…” Angie sang, tilting her head in an impossible way.
“I said no! Cazzo!” the lady shrieked, making the doll flee to your lap, scared by the irrational anger of her owner.
“Leave it be Angie,” you said, sad, disappointed. “It's not worth it.”
“You stupid, stubborn spaghetti,” the doll accused, pulling even harder on her patience. “You're going to make the fool cry.”
“All you want is to scare those children,” Donna said, with a stern but somewhat calmer tone.
“No, I want to play, (Y/N) wants you to go with her and you want to make her happy, what's the problem? Are you afraid that people will stop thinking that you are a monster without feelings?” the puppet mocked without fearing the wrath of its owner.
Donna didn't say anything, she just sighed, running a hand through her hair and glancing at you out of the corner of her eye, watching how you curled up in bed, turning your back on her, suppressing a sob.
Your family was important to you, Donna was important to you. You couldn't, you simply couldn't choose between the two things, you couldn't stand it anymore.
“(Y/N), I'm sorry I yelled,” the brunette apologized, putting a hand on your shoulder to turn you around.
“Donna, you know how important my family is to me,” you sighed, wiping a tear that ran down your cheek. “I can't stand the idea of them thinking you're a danger, of them thinking you don't love me, because it's not true. But don't worry, just keep on with your dolls and your stupid isolation, I'll figure out how to continue without your help.”
“Cavolo…” the doll maker growled, crossing her arms and looking at the Angie doll, who looked at her expectantly.
“You made her cry, Donna, you fool,” Angie hissed. “Fix it.”
“I…” the lady murmured, thinking carefully about her words. “Okay, I'll do it. I'll do it for you, (Y/N). I would die without thinking that I wouldn't be able to do anything for you.”
Finally the lady accepted the offer, and you couldn't be happier, but as the date of the meeting approached, nerves mercilessly invaded your entire body. You knew that Donna was nice; you knew that she had sacrificed her comfort zone for you, but you weren't sure if your parents would change their minds. You hoped so.
As expected, your parents' faces paled when they saw the woman with the veil. Your father remained cold, your mother trembled, but you tried to ignore those dangerous signs.
“Well, I guess you already know Donna,” you said nervously, watching the children hide because of that imposing presence. “Look, honey, this is my mother, Svetlana,” you said, guiding the brunette towards the frightened woman, who bowed her head in respect.
“It's an honor, Lady Beneviento,” she said in a helpful tone, without looking at the lady, who nodded slowly, without showing any emotion.
“Um, and this... this is Marcus, my father,” you said a little more nervously, pointing at your father, who looked at Donna with distrust, giving her a reluctant greeting.
“Grandma, what is that?” Niko, your nephew asked tugging at your mother's dress and pointing shamelessly at Angie, who pointed at herself.
“That? That?” the doll asked, breaking free from her owner's grip. “I'm not that, my little friend, I'm the fabulous, the unique, the fantastic Angie.”
Both children backed away as the doll approached.
“Hey, leave them alone,” your father said, protecting your nephews, making clumsy gestures towards Angie.
“No, no, it's not okay, she won't hurt them,” you said, grabbing your father's arm, who growled as he watched the doll chase your nephews.
“Oh, you little cowards…” Angie crooned. “Very well, then I won't show you my magic tricks.”
“Magic?” your niece asked, peeking timidly.
“Yes, magic,” the doll said, nodding proudly. “Tell me, have you ever seen a doll that does this?” she shouted amused, twisting her head comically, instantly gaining the attention of the children.
“Wow…” they sighed at the same time, dazzled by Angie's charisma.
“What else can you do?” Niko asked, shyly approaching the doll.
“Mm, I'm the world champion of hide and seek, you scumbags,” the doll commented, before your attentive gaze.
“That's a lie, I'm better,” Olga said, protesting amused.
“Dear…we'll have to prove it…”
Surprisingly, the children didn't take long to gain confidence with Angie, and with Donna, as she timidly handed them the gifts she had made. Of course, that woman in black, veiled and silent, scared them, but they soon lost fear when they saw their new toys, jumping for joy and thanking your girlfriend effusively.
Your parents barely spoke. They limited themselves to watching your nephews when they dared to approach Donna to give her a tender hug for their gifts. The children were wonderful, they were immune to rumors. They soon felt totally comfortable with the presence of that mysterious woman.
“What is this?” your father asked, sitting at the table while the children had fun with the doll and their new toys.
“It's lasagna, dad, Donna made it,” you said, serving him a portion of the dish that the lady had prepared.
“Lasagna,” your mother murmured, observing the plate with curiosity.
You nodded, glancing at the lady in black, who, to no one's surprise, didn't say a single word, just nodded slightly, remaining silent, which increased the tension of the meal even more.
“Mm, how do I know it's not poisoned?” your father asked, dipping his cutlery into the plate, distrustful.
“Dad,” you protested at his rudeness. “You just... eat and shut up.”
“Marcus, please...” your mother said, trying to save the situation.
It was a silent, tense, heavy lunch. The glances flew like constant knives between you.
“It's delicious, Lady Beneviento,” your mother said with a fake smile, making the lady look at her and nod reluctantly. “It looks like complicated to make.”
“Oh, not at all,” you said with a smile. “Donna is an excellent cook,” you commented. “Isn't that right, darling?”
The lady didn't move, she continued eating in silence, moving her veil a bit aside.
“Does she never take that thing off?” your father asked in an unpleasant tone, finishing his meal, which he seemed to have liked. “Hey, I'm talking to you.”
“Marcus, please,” your mother said, terribly scared by the way her husband addressed the Lord. “Show some respect.”
“Respect? Svetlana, that woman has taken our daughter,” your father growled, hitting the table with his fist, drawing the attention of everyone present. “You may be very powerful, Beneviento, but you're in my territory now.”
“Dad,” you said, scared by his attitude as the lady in black slowly raised her gaze, dropping her cutlery. “Don't talk to her like that.”
“Don't talk to her like that?” the man said, pointing at the lady with a fork. “What's wrong with you? Can't you talk?”
“Leave her alone,” you insisted, terribly nervous. “She doesn't talk to strangers.”
“Oh, um... the tomato sauce is homemade, right?” your mother asked, trying by all means to divert the conversation.
Donna looked at her and nodded slowly, but unable to suppress the trembling of her hands.
“You like my daughter, you like her body, how beautiful she is...” your father murmured, crossing his arms, with a look of absolute contempt. “You the Lords think you can do whatever you want why anyone, don't you? Even with an innocent girl.”
“Dad!” you shouted on the verge of a heart attack, and tears.
“Enough, Marcus,” your mother demanded, also hitting the table. “Lady Beneviento, I beg your forgiveness for my husband's attitude, it's just that…”
“Excuse me? She should be asking me for forgiveness. He sleeps with our daughter, Svetlana,” your father said, dragging his words. “What do you think will happen when she gets tired of her?”
“Can't you stop acting like an orangutan?” you said nervously. “She hasn't done anything for you to treat her like that.”
“She hasn't done anything,” your father said, with a mocking smile. “Come on, Beneviento, defend yourself, tell me I'm lying, say something, damn it, do you even know how to talk? Or do you only know how to screw up the life of a girl like (Y/N)?”
Donna reacted, abruptly getting up from the table, looking at your father, without saying anything, but clenching her fists, repressing her rage.
“No, no, no, Donna, honey, calm down,” you said nervously, grabbing the brunette by the shoulders. “Shh, calm down…”
“Stop it!” your mother shouted, standing up too. “Marcus, apologize! You're being unfair to her. We don't know what can happen to us if…”
“Mom!” you shrieked, not accepting the cautious attitude of the woman, who seemed to fear her, she was terribly afraid of Donna. “I'm starting to realize that it was a mistake to come here,” you hissed, throwing the napkin on the table and shaking your head.
“That woman is the mistake,” your father growled, making Donna turn around again, with a furious gasp.
“Let's go, Donna,” you said, taking the brunette by the arm and walking towards the exit.
“Hey! Are we leaving?” Angie protested, still playing with the children. “I want to stay a little longer.”
“Vai, Angie!” Donna squealed making the children back off with the first words the lady said.
The doll said goodbye to the children happily and walked next to you.
“Wait, (Y/N), you should stay,” Donna said, already outside the house.
“No, I'm not going to stay after what they did to you,” you said frowning. “Donna, I'm so sorry…”
“I'm used to this, tesoro… don't worry about me, stay with your family, I need to go home, I have to… relax…” the lady said, lifting your chin, giving you a quick kiss through her veil, walking away without letting you protest any further.
“Donna…” you said with a sob, letting your shoulders fall as your girlfriend walked away from you with a quick step. “Shit, shit…”
You stormed back into your house, slamming the door shut, scaring the kids even more.
“Are you happy?” you asked nervously, on the verge of tears. “Look what you’ve achieved!”
“That crazy bitch has left my house, I’m satisfied,” your father said in a cocky tone. “It’s over, (Y/N), she’s never coming back to that house again, do you hear me?”
“You haven’t even given her a chance!” you shouted, ignoring those banal threats. “You’re… Ugh!”
“Please, calm down, both of you,” your mother said, standing between the two of you before the shouting could escalate. “Marcus, you should be ashamed.”
“I don’t regret anything, Svetlana, I won’t tolerate that disgusting monster continuing to grope my daughter,” your father said, approaching threateningly.
“You’re a disgusting monster,” you muttered in childish rage.
“For Gods’ sake, that's enough,” your mother pleaded. “Please, let's talk things over, Marcus.”
“Leave me alone,” your father said, walking out the door, angry and furious.
You, silent, stunned just like your nephews, let yourself be seated on a chair, putting a hand on your forehead.
“Damn it...” you whispered, being comforted by the two children, who sat next to you and rubbed your back.
“I like her, I like your girlfriend, Aunt (Y/N),” Olga said, touching her new doll. “Grandpa has been mean to her.”
“Yes, Angie is great too, she hasn't tired of playing with us,” her brother said, excited about his racing car. “Do you think we can play with her again?”
“I don't know, Niko,” you sighed, letting yourself be carried away by the innocence of children, crying subtly.
“Children, go to your room,” your mother said with a serious gesture, pointing to a door.
The children nodded and obeyed with a sad look.
“I can't believe it, mom,” you whispered after a few seconds of silence.  “Was it so hard for you to behave like normal people for once?”
“Honey...” your mother sighed, coming a little closer. “You have to understand that for us it is a very complicated situation.”
“Complicated? Dad has been insulting Donna all the time for no reason,” you said angrily, arching your eyebrows. “And you did nothing but grovel before her because she terrifies you. If your plan is to ruin our relationship, you are on the right track.”
“(Y/N)…” your mother sighed. “We care about you.”
“Cut the crap, mom, you haven't even given her the chance to prove that she is nice, that she takes care of me and…” you said, suddenly feeling terrible dizziness and intense chills.
“Are you okay?” your mother asked, scared by your immediate paleness. “Honey, what's wrong?”
“I-I don't know… I…” you said with a sudden tiredness, a terrible one along with a stabbing pain in your joints. “I…”
You couldn't say anything else, because everything went black.
“Stop talking nonsense, Marcus,” you heard your mother say when you were able to open your eyes.
Your whole body was weak, burning, you could barely move. You were tucked into your old bed and your father, nervous, paced from one side of the house to the other.
“I'm telling you that it's all that monster's fault, she must have poisoned her,” the man said, nervous, furious.
The darkness that could be seen through the window told you that it was already night, you don't know how long you had been unconscious.
“Mom…” you whispered with a weak voice, putting an end to those horrible insinuations. “What…? What happened to me?”
“Oh, (Y/N), you're awake,” she said, taking your burning hand. “Gosh, you have a high fever, you fainted.”
“Damn it…” you complained, realizing that Donna was right, you still hadn't recovered from the flu. “I-I have to…”
Before you could continue, the door sounded with a thunderous bang, causing your father to be on alert, grabbing a nearby shotgun.
“Marcus, what's wrong?” your mother asked, also scared.
“Stay here,” he said, approaching the door and taking a quick look. “You… Go away!”
“D-Donna…” you murmured when you saw the lady in black behind the door, making an impulse to move, which your mother stopped. “Donna…”
“Didn't you hear me? We don't want you here. Get out or... or...!” your father shrieked, closing the door in her face.
“Dad... no,” you complained, reaching out your hand towards the open door of your room. “Donna...”
With a kick that could be comical, the lady in black didn’t accept the answer, opening the door abruptly, making your father step back and point the shotgun at her.
“D-Don't move...” the man said, trembling as Donna approached, grabbing the barrel of the gun and bending it without difficulty. “No, don't hurt me,” he said cowardly afterwards.
The lady ignored him, looking for something with her eye, looking for you. When she found, she didn't waste a second in running to your side, almost throwing herself onto the bed.
“(Y/N), tesoro,” she gasped nervously as your mother cautiously moved away. “Amore mio, what's happening? You didn't come home and…”
“She has a high fever,” your mother said dryly while your girlfriend checked it, caressing your forehead. “She has fainted.”
“What?” Donna asked. “Oddio… you're burning up…” she whispered.
“Wow, you sure know how to talk,” your father said, crossing his arms behind the door frame. “What have you done to my daughter, you psychopath?”
“Dad…” you moaned desperately at Marcus's inflexible attitude.
“We don't know what to do, my lady, the doctor is not in the village and we don't have money for…” your mother said, clasping her hands, with a look, not of terror, but of pity, of fear that something would happen to you.
“Telefono” the lady hissed, glancing at your mother through that dark veil.
Your mother shook her head, unable to understand her words, nervous, and now, frightened.
“Telefono! Porca puttana! A telephone!” the Lord demanded, causing the woman to instinctively protect herself, nodding and pointing to the required device.
Donna stepped aside, hitting your mother on the shoulder as she walked, dialing a number, the only possible one, the Duke’s.
Soon the merchant arrived with the medicines, but they would take a while to take effect. Your longed-for return home would have to wait a bit, but luckily, Donna and your mother took care of you in the meantime.
Tiredness made you fall asleep, with your hand held by the lady in black, who didn’t move from your side while she caressed you. At one point you woke up, but you decided not to open your eyes, you were very tired, weak.
“Excuse me, my lady,” your mother's voice interrupted that quiet moment, along with her footsteps on the old wood. “It's a very cold night, you could use some tea.”
“Grazie,” Donna whispered, nodding gratefully, or so you saw with your half-open eyes.
“(Y/N) sister's room is free, the children are gone... if you want you can rest,” the woman said, lowering her head and passing a hand over your forehead.
“No,” the lady said, coldly, turning her head back to you.
Your mother nodded, sitting down in another chair and letting a tense atmosphere of silence cover you completely. Your eyes danced with the temptation to close completely again, but you were alert, you had to be.
“(Y/N) is right, you are a woman of few words,” your mother said after a few minutes that seemed eternal.
Donna turned slowly to look at her, but only briefly.
“I-I don't mean it's a bad thing, it's wise to be cautious with words,” she said again in the absence of a verbal response from the hierarch, who sighed annoyed by the situation. “I-I've prepared some hot soup for when (Y/N) recovers, perhaps you would like some.”
“No,” Donna repeated, with a dark hiss, almost begging for your mother to leave you alone.
Your mother lowered her head, nodding slowly, obeying in a submissive way.
“My lady, I beg your pardon for our behavior. My husband and I are very sorry,” Svetlana said, forcing you to stop pretending and intervene.
“Come on,” you said, groaning and opening your eyes, hurt, but completely conscious.
“(Y/N)…” Donna sighed, caressing your cheek. “Don't get up, per favore,” she whispered to you in a tender voice, laying you back down on the bed.
“Mom, who are you trying to fool? Dad has pointed a damn shotgun at my girlfriend,” you protested, fighting against the lady's attempts to cover you well with the sheets.
“Shh, taci, amore mio,” Donna said in a sweet voice, not caring that a villager like your mother heard her. “It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters to me is that you recover so we can go home.”
“Home…” you gasped, giving in and letting her take care of you in bed. “For a moment I thought I had dreamed it all, that you weren't here.”
“Of course I'm here, tesoro,” your girlfriend said, getting a little closer while you reached out your hand clumsily, brushing the veil.
“I hate seeing you with that on,” you commented amused, making a shy laugh come out of her black veil as well.
“Shh, don't talk, (Y/N),” Donna whispered, caressing your cheek and checking that your clumsy caresses hadn't uncovered her face. “You've already taken the medicine, now you have to rest so that the fever goes down completely.”
“Mm…” you murmured, glancing sideways at your mother. “Mom…”
“Hi honey… I'm here,” the woman said, bringing her hand closer to yours. “Thank Gods you feel better…”
“Your mother has prepared a soup for you, I think you should have some,” Donna said, with an irresistible voice that would melt any metal.
“My lady, would you be so kind as to take care of…?” your mother asked with a trembling voice, bringing the plate closer to the lady in black, who took it without hesitation, nodding. “I better… leave you two alone…” she said after, making a ridiculous bow and leaving the room.
“Are you comfortable?” Donna asked, helping you to sit up and bringing you a spoonful. “It smells very good.”
“My mother cooks well, although not as well as you,” you joked a little, letting the soup soothe your throat. “I'm convinced that she's dying to ask you for the lasagna recipe.”
“Mm,” she murmured, helping you to eat. “She's dying for me to disappear from your life, (Y/N).”
“Donna…” you sighed with a sad voice. “You don't know how sorry I am.”
“I've already told you that it doesn't matter,” she answered, cleaning you lovingly with a napkin. “The prejudices in this village are strong, it's not their fault.”
“No, my love,” you corrected, with tears in your eyes. “I'm so sorry I asked you to come. I should have known it was a bad idea.”
“Don't apologize. I know how important your family is to you. It hurts me to say it, but Angie was right. Just because it was a mistake doesn't mean it wasn't the right thing to do, (Y/N)” she said, while continuing to take care of you.
“You always do the right thing, don't you?” she asked, letting you fall back onto the mattress, pleasantly warmed by that soup. “Donna, it makes me so helpless that people don't know what you're really like…”
“I'm not a good person, (Y/N), I've done horrible things, I've killed, I've spread terror with my siblings. I don't deserve for you to try to make others see me the same way you do,” Donna said, settling you down again.
“But it's just that…” you sighed, taking her hand, squeezing it with all the strength you had. “I see you, Donna, and I see you are not that horrible person you think you are. I see you as you really are, your way of loving… I see the person you want to be, what you are when you are with me and…”
“You left (Y/N) alone, with her!” your father's screams interrupted that romantic moment, bouncing off the walls.
“Marcus, please! You've caused enough trouble!” your mother shouted, making you both look at each other in silence, listening. “Do you know how much that medicine cost? We could never have afforded it.”
“Svetlana, I can't believe you're so impressed with a Lord’s money,” Marcus growled. “She wants the girl alive, she needs her alive…”
“Stop talking nonsense and behave like what you are!” your mother responded, catching your attention even more. “You're her father, Marcus. Her happiness is what should matter to you, not nonsense about monstrous Lords.”
“She's a monster!” he shrieked, making Donna move, squeezing your hand as she trembled from the pain of those words. “She's…!”
“Sometimes you are unbearable, Marcus, she is your daughter's girlfriend, and you better go in there and apologize to Lady Beneviento, and thank her for taking care of your daughter like we were never able to do,” your mother demanded, making you smile.
“But...”
“Do it! Or we will lose our daughter forever. Open your eyes, dear. You have seen that this woman is not as the rumors say. Fix things, Marcus, or your daughter won’t be the only thing you lose tonight,” your mother threatened, leaving behind her words an uncomfortable halo of silence.
Donna lowered her gaze, shaking her head softly at hearing those insults, those words that were only based on opinions, unfounded or not, about a completely different woman, about a Donna Beneviento who didn’t know what love was.
A few seconds later, the door opened and your father entered the room, head down, scratching the back of his neck. Donna, startled, stood up from her chair, ready to fight your father's ignorance again.
“Lady Beneviento,” your father whispered, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye, relieved to see you awake. “I have one question, just one, and I demand…I want you to answer me.”
The lady nodded slowly, keeping her composure.
“Do you love my daughter? Do you really love (Y/N)? Will you take care of her?” the man asked, to which you rolled your eyes.
“Hey, that's a lot of questions,” you interrupted.
“(Y/N)…” your mother sighed, gesturing for you to remain silent.
“I do,” Donna answered, dryly, but self-assured.
Your father sighed, glancing at your mother out of the corner of his eye and taking a breath, slowly extending his hand towards the brunette, with a look of distrust.
“(Y/N) loves you, and it seems that you have managed to convince my wife, but be clear about one thing, Beneviento, it will take me a while to trust you. But I may change my mind if you give me, right now, your word,” your father said, challenging Donna with his gaze, who was surely doing the same.
The brunette didn’t hesitate and extended her hand towards his, shaking it silently, slowly moving it away and maintaining that defiant look that you knew wasn’t threatening at all.
“Good,” he said, nodding satisfied. “I hope your status as a Lord will serve to keep my girl away from all the evils of this village. My home is your home, my lady.”
“Dad, you are great,” you said amused. “Hey, Donna, he did the best he could, really.”
The lady looked at you and nodded, sitting back down in her chair and taking your hand. You breathed easily for the first time.
You knew it was a temporary truce, but Donna would know how to handle it, how to convince your father, without needing any words, that she was the best thing that could happen to you, that she deserved you. Besides, your nephews seemed to take a liking to her, to her and to Angie, as your mother did.
Ahead of you, there was a promising future.
“Tomorrow morning we will return home, okay, my love?”  you whispered, proud of Donna’s composure, of her integrity, of not being able to hurt anyone, your family, even if they thought she was a monster.
“Well, everything is settled,” your mother said, with the same relieved smile. “My lady, if you don't mind, I would like to ask you a few questions about that… lasagna…”

A/N: Participating in @choicesmonthlychallengenov2024 Prompts: commitment, memories

It was just a drink.
Tobias repeated that to himself over and over as he headed to Yvonne’s. Nothing more than that. He hadn't been known for having serious relationships in the past, but if one person had come close to sharing that with him, it was Monica. He hadn't heard from her in years, and when she reached out to let him know she was in Boston, he didn’t think anything about meeting up. She was once an important part of his life, after all, and he was curious to see how she was doing. He was happy now, happier than he ever could have imagined with Casey. His exes? Monica included... they were from chapters in his life that were permanently closed. So, there was wrong with a drink for “old time’s sake.” It was just a drink.
Yvonene's was an upscale bar known for its understated elegance and dim lighting, but tonight, the energy was vibrant, and Tobias and Monica did their part to add to the festive atmosphere. His eyes sparkled as they talked; Monica hadn’t changed a bit. Her melodic laughter filled the air, and her dark waves shimmered each time she tossed back her head. They reminisced about the old days, recalling friends Tobias hadn’t talked to in years, and she had him howling with stories about her capers in Chicago. He brought her up to date on his life as well, including his relationship with Casey. Monica was shocked but seemed to take the news in stride.
Everything was going well, and they stepped out into the crisp Boston night when they ran out of things to say. They shared a few last words as they waited for their cars to arrive. That’s when things took a turn. Monica turned to him, her gaze locking on the crystal blue eyes that once knew her so well. Tobias felt the shift at once.
“What’s up, Monica?” he asked, not waiting to address it.
Her smile turned tantalizing as she reached out, fingers tracing down the cool wool of his jacket. “It’s been such a lovely night,” she murmured. “But I don't want it to end. Why don't we go back to your place, maybe recreate some good times, you know... for memory’s sake.”
Tobias took her hand and gently eased it away. “Monica,” he started. “I’m flattered, but I told you. I’m with Casey now.”
His voice was sincere, but Monica wasn’t moved. “Tobias, please,” she smirked. “I think it’s great that you and Casey have... a thing... and I’m not asking you to propose, but let's be real... we both know you are not a one woman man, so...” her well-manicured fingers ran down his lapel, eyes shining. "This can stay between us, Tobias... no one else has to know.”
“I’d know,” he responded, removing her hands more forcefully this time. “Look, Monica, the man you once knew and the man I am today are two very different people. I love Casey; she's the only one I want. I’m committed to her and would never betray her.”
Monica’s eyes narrowed. “You’ve got to be kidding me, Tobias?”
“Not even a little,” he replied resolutely.
“Well, that’s a shame,” Monica sighed. “It’s a good bet that won’t last for long. I’d tell you to look me up once you’re bored, but I might not be available then, Carrick.”
Tobias exhaled, his patience wearing thin. “You know, it was a lovely evening, Monica. Was,” he seethed, holding his gaze a moment longer. “I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay.” With that, he turned on his heel and walked away.
He shook his head as he entered his car, wanting nothing more than to be with Casey, but she was working an overnight shift. He called, but it went straight to voicemail. “Hey, baby,” he began. “Just wanted to tell you that I love you, and I miss you. I’m wiped out, so I’ll probably pass out when I get home. If you call and don’t reach me, that’s why. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
~~~~~
It was almost noon when Tobias began to stir. He smiled as he stretched in the bright sun shining through his bedroom windows. Sleeping late was a luxury rarely afforded to him, so he was refreshed and ready to welcome the day. He decided to check his messages before stepping into the shower, and that’s where things began to fall apart.
He was disappointed to see there were no messages from Casey. However, there was one from Monica:
“Hey T, I thought I’d let you know that I filled Casey in on all the details. You really should have mentioned them to her before spending the night with me. Not that I minded, of course. It really was great seeing you again, T."
Tobias could feel his temples beginning to throb. Spent the night with her? Was she delusional? Sure, they had drinks together, but that lasted about an hour, and he went home alone. But if Monica had led Casey to believe something more happened, then she was going to have to answer to him.
Casey didn't answer his call, so he sent a quick text saying they needed to talk. But that wasn't good enough. He grabbed his jacket from the closet and rushed over to Casey’s. She was sitting on her front steps when he arrived, wrapped in a fluffy fleece blanket. She was composed despite her tense jaw and a flash of anger in her eyes. Tobias didn't know what to expect.
“Casey—” he started, his voice almost desperate.
“So, it appears you're aware that Monica contacted me,” she said with just a hint of sarcasm.
“Baby, I don’t know what she told you,” he pleaded. “But I swear to God, nothing happened between me and Monica. We had drinks at Yvonne’s, just like I told you. We caught up a bit, and then I went home... alone. You have to believe me.”
His heart raced when Casey didn’t immediately respond. “Look, we can go to my place right now. I’ll show you the footage from the security cameras. I went home right after I left you a voicemail...and there was no one with me.”
“Tobias,” Casey sighed, motioning for him to sit next to her. He wrapped his arms around her, and she covered them both with her blanket.
“Do you believe me?” he whispered.
“Of course I do. But this whole thing is still upsetting. Why... why would Monica do this?”
“I don’t know,” he said, running a hand down his face. “Last night was going fine... we were just catching up. Then, we were waiting for our rides to arrive, and she asked to come home with me. I shot it down right away. I was honest with her. I told her about you; there was no way I was going to...”
“Shh, shh, shh,” Casey said, raising a finger to his lips. “It’s OK, babe. So, you spurned her, and she was pissed, so she decided to create some drama for you.”
“Yeah, well, she’s going to get a piece of my mind! She can be pissed all she wants, but the minute she tried to hurt you... all bets are off!”
“You know what, Tobias, the best thing we can do is ignore her and just... be happy. She wants to upset us. I say we don’t give her the satisfaction.”
Tobias's thumb caressed Casey's cheek as he gazed deeply into her eyes. “You’re incredible, do you know that?”
“Of course I do,” she smirked. “It takes a pretty incredible woman to put up with your bevy of exes.”
“A bevy may be a bit of an exaggeration,” he smiled.
“OK, a horde, then?”
Tobias chuckled as he took her under his arm. “I’m so glad you didn’t believe her.”
“I know who you are, Tobias, and... I trust you.”
"Good, because I promise you, Casey. You have nothing to worry about with me."
Tobias’s shoulders relaxed as the tension began leaving his body. He promised Casey once more that nothing and no one could ever come between them. She found amusement in the situation, teasing him that her exes were far less problematic than his. With that, they headed inside and warmed up with a pot of hot chocolate. Tobias was quite confident he'd enjoy this night much more than the one before.
there's a lift of daithi's brows at elio's comment , stifling the laugh mostly that wanted to bubble up . he sure could fire back quickly when stressed out , something he never held against him . he rather enjoyed the determination that it always set the other in . like now , tasked with a challenge to help viveka , someone he wasn't that that fond of just yet but would help nonetheless . it warmed his heart though , seeing him take charge a bit to help someone in need instead of letting emotions simmer and get in the way . though his nose crinkles just a little at elio mentioning that he's spoken a lot about her . he doesn't mean too , and he feels a little bad about it in the moment because did it upset him when it happened ? he'd have to store this conversation for another time .
he's quick , though , once he sees viveka scooped up with relative ease from elio and jogging the few steps to close the distance to the truck . he pulls the door open and holds it to ensure it didn't try to shut on them . honestly , in charge elio was pretty hot , he wasn't even going to lie . it even caused a soft blush over his cheek bones and he nods a bit . ' i'm just going to check in with her really quick , yeah ? ' he assures softly , blue eyes on the taller male . ' thank you , though , ' he murmurs , leaning in to peck his cheek gently . he shifts in the door way , leaning against it with his hands on the roof area . ' you'll be okay until we get to the hospital ? we're going to the one a few minutes away - i rather you in better care than the one closer . on willis street . i won't try to lose you guys , but you know how to get there . ' which earns him a smile from her and nodding . he leans in to press a kiss to her forehead before he backs up to shut the door and join elio by the driver side of the truck .
he moves into the seat , hand going down to the button to put the seat forward and back , showing him how to adjust that minimally - he was shorter than elio after all . then his foot is on the brake and he touches the start button , offering a smile . ' pretty simple . just press which gear you need - drive , reverse , park . ' he goes over while pointing . he also sets lane assist on since it was dark and didn't want elio to struggle to see the lines of the road since it is a bigger vehicle . he slides out of the now running truck , blue eyes up on him again . ' you'll be okay ? we'll talk later , yeah ? ' he murmurs softly before leaning up and pressing a gentle kiss to his lips . ' and thank you , by the way . for stepping up . ' he offers him one last peck on the lips before he's moving to the toppled bike and putting his weight in it to get up before sliding the helmet on and making sure it starts , sitting in idle to wait for elio to get comfortable and put it in drive before he moves off .
Tumblr media
viveka can't help the little laugh that comes at elio's little jab at daithi , shaking her head . they seemed to get along perfectly even in person and it warmed her heart to see it . ' has he now ? ' he questions with a raised brow before smiling just a little bit . ' nice to officially meet you too , though . ' she's heard a lot about elio over the past couple months . she could tell daithi was excited for elio to be making plans to see him and she hated that she had to interrupt their time together because of a clumsy mistake . however there's a tiny squeak at how easily she was scooped up into the other's arms , her arms going around his neck to keep herself up . green eyes look over his face for any struggle but there was nothing she could see . she looks to daithi who is going ahead to open the door and smiles at him , cheeks slightly blushed as well because of the situation .
she uses her hands to scoot herself into the truck a little more , nodding at his question . she's thankful daithi at least checks in with her before they're going to take off , nodding that she knew how to get there . though as she settles in the seat , she can't help but watch the exchange between the boys , the fondness in daithi's look to elio . not scared to give him a kiss in front of her either and it makes her happy to see that she hadn't dampened too much down between them . once elio is back in the truck , she hums briefly as if in thought . ' he's lucky , you know . ' she offers up as she hears her bike start ahead of them , glad it still runs . ' that he has someone like you . ' but she doesn't elaborate , resting back against the seat a bit as she watches daithi take the lead driving .
"You can be stubborn too when it comes to certain topics." Elio fires back while giving him a tentative smile. "I'm sure I can handle it."
His focus shifts back to Viveka. "Nice to officially meet you. Daithi has told me a lot about you." He has, without even realizing it. It all had been little comments or mentions, but after talking for so long, they all added up and gave him a bit of insight into what kind of person she was. This was, however, the first time he saw her with his own eyes.
"Let's try not to make it weird then," He says that although he isn't sure he will succeed, at least he can try. Viveka is short in comparison to him and when he gently scoops her up in his arms he notices that she also doesn't weigh much. This was not how he imagined their first meeting would go, then again life was full of surprises. "Daithi can you maybe open the car door for us? I would try to do it myself but I don't want to accidentally hurt her foot more. " That would make for a very bad first impression. He walks over to Daithi's car while holding onto her. Once the car door is open he gently sets her down in the back. "You okay like this?" He questions studying her face for any signs of discomfort.
Over his shoulder, he says to Daithi, "I promise I'll be careful with your truck. Can you start so I can get used to how your car works when you lead the way?"
Outer Wilds planets as people
That's right, all the planets and major locations of the game now have a personality! Why? Why not.
ENJOY and tag yourself in the comments ;P
Warning: angst at some point
🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Timber Hearth: the best way to describe you is that to everyone you feel like home. You are such a heartwarming presence for the people around you that they’re naturally drawn to you and feel like they could tell you everything.
You watch over your family and the people you’ve adopted become friends with and get so so proud of their accomplishments, even when it means they’re slowly drifting away from you, following their own dreams, reaching for the stars. You don’t have grandiose goals for yourself, in fact you feel quite contempt where you are, but part of you longs for the stars as well, for the thrill of discovery. It’s a dilemma that puzzles you to no end, but ultimately you realize that you can be perfectly contempt with where you are without beating yourself up for not being ambitious enough, and still keep the flame of your curiosity lit and your eyes up to the sky in wonder. And when your family gets a little homesick rest assured, you’ll always be there.
🌙🌙🌙🌛🌛🌚🌜🌜🌙🌙🌙
Attlerock: you’re the quiet kid. You often watch silently in awe how all the people in your group blend in seamlessly, like they all were bits of a song that needed to be played together. Despite this though, you feel something missing in you, like you’re the only one without an instrument. This makes you feel somewhat lonely and worthless even when you’re surrounded by the people who love you. Do they love you? Would they forget about you if you weren’t literally there at all their meetings, if you weren’t the nearest and easiest to reach of the group?
You probably haven’t found your instrument, the thing that makes your soul flutter with joy yet because of this deep insecurity that drains you, like a gaping hole that makes you feel only half there.
You are always there for the people you care about, but sometimes you’re worried you have nothing to give to the others. Watch out for the people who will just use you to vent or repair themselves and then leave you behind.
🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔷️🔶️🔷️🔶️🔷️🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️
Ash twin: you’re very good at keeping secrets and verry organized: when people have a problem, you know what they need and where to send them. You go by your own rhythm and one must be very patient in order to get to know you. You know not to rush things and are known for your biblical patience. You can stand a great amount of pressure, it’s like you were made for it. But. This doesn’t mean though that your patience can be abused ‘cause even though your shell is strong, if someone manages to break in they’ll have to be very careful of their next couple of actions and pray they haven’t triggered their own doom.
You know Sun’s secret, but they begged you not to tell the others. With tearful eyes, you comply.
🔸️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔶️🔷️🔶️🔷️🔶️🔹️🔸️🔹️🔸️
Ember twin: you have a lot going on. Curious and quick tempered, you have NO patience at. All. and love love love to debate and exchange opinions with people: friendly disputes are your bread and butter. Whether you have a more artistic or scientific inclination, you tend to experiment a lot and put all your energy into your projects, but you also know your limits.
You didn’t exactly have a peaceful childhood / upbringing and some things got under your skin, but despite the harsh environment you managed to free yourself from the things that slowed you down thanks to your acquired tough skin and a close community that you hold very dear. You stand out for your confidence and straightforwardness, there’s no time to waste.
🪕🪕🪕🎵🎶🎵🪕🪕🪕
Brittle Hollow: Extremely curious. Having so many interests, you mastered compartmentalization and can handle a lot of hobbies at once, or you jump from one special interest to another, always moving.
That being said, you ultimately crack under pressure. Underneath all those interests you hide a heavy and somewhat terrifying truth that you may not want to face, and it will be hard for others too to confront it. But having dealt with it your whole life you have learned to just accept it, live with it and somehow you built yourself a safety net of sorts, something to bring you back from the abyss. It’s not much but it keeps you from losing yourself. You wouldn’t mind a hand though.
You may get frustrated by this inner turmoil of yours that forces you to fall into the same mistakes again and again. Understandable. But know this: knowing how to put yourself back together is a skill that not many possess and you are worth saving, every time.
🗻🗻🗻🗻🌋🌋🌋🌋🗻🗻🗻🗻
Hollow’s Lantern: looking back you can’t help but blame yourself for not noticing it before. You’ve always been the life of the party with your hotheaded personality, but with high highs come low lows and your temper tantrums have always just as explosive. You never meant to hurt your friend/relative so much though, but every time you two get near you end up hurting them and now… you can’t even muster the courage to get near them, afraid that you’ll only damage them more.
The fire of your ever present burning passion can be handled only by the toughest skin. So you make the tough decision, and let them go.
🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
Giants Deep: you have the soul of a poet… and the inner turmoil of one too. You’re capable of such deep introspection, but it’s locked behind a wall of mistrust, away from unwanted judgement. In fact, getting to know the inner you is quite tricky, as you tend to ‘test’ people to see what they’re made of. There is a correct answer and it’s through listening and understanding, there’s no way around it, people will find literally no way to force themselves in your heart if you don’t want to.
Once a person has proven to be trustworthy, they’ll start seeing all the other facets of your personality, like that one thing you’re extremely enthusiastic about to the point that it Will scare them. You’re also very into journaling, writing, maybe even youtube vlogging.
The best nights spent together are the ones where yall are stargazing and your friends are just taken aback at how you, taken by the moment, somehow start talking like you know the secrets of the universe. That’s a wisdom you’ve gained from learning to pay attention to the world you live in, and to work alongside it and not against.
▫️▪️◽◾◻⬛⬜◼◻◾◽▪️▫️
White hole: they could never exactly pinpoint your behavior. You just seemed to spit back at people everything they tossed at you seamlessly. When people give you hate, they receive hate. When they give you love, they receive the same amount of it back.
Your face has always been a blank slate where people could see whatever they wanted. Truth to be told, you could never explain it yourself either. It’s just that… emotions are hard? to feel? and you don’t really know how to feel half the time?
You have a hard time reaching for others and tend more to react to what happens to you than anything else, and your peers have kind of accepted that and always make sure to include you in their activities to give you the opportunity to interact or choose to pass. You’re very grateful for that.
🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑
Quantum moon: you are a social butterfly, extremely adaptable to every situation and tend to blend in the group, mimicking people’s personality. You don’t do it out of malice, it’s literally a superpower you own. Truth to be told you are kinda quirky, spooky even, but you only allow to manifest your true self when no one is around. People who want to get to know the real you need to understand that you are not lying when you change depending on who you stand near, they’re all bits of personality that make the whole you. When they have accepted what they observe as it is, you’ll know you two will be linked and whenever you see each other around know that your presence will comfort them.
🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔷️🔷️🔷️🔷️🔷️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️
The Interloper:  cold and distant, you didn’t mind watching things from afar. You have a hard time blending in and even after years you still felt like an outsider amongst you peers, like you weren’t made for this place.
There was one time when you met someone special and felt warm inside for the first time in years, but…
Let’s just say, you’ve made a big ass mistake in the past that ruined something you cared about. You blew up when you shouldn’t have, and now you can’t let go of what you did and can’t forgive yourself, so you just act as a passive observer, afraid of opening up again.
🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅
The Sun: You’re very mature, goal driven and a natural leader. You are kinda the reason your group of friends formed in the first place and have been a senior member and constant presence up until now. You’ve grown, and had so many wonderful memories with your friends, but you’ve known for a while it couldn’t last forever.
You told your friends that (be it for study or work) you’ll have to move out somewhere far away from your friends and you’re kinda worried that if you stop being a constant presence the rest of the group will eventually slowly drift apart, but you hope their friendship is strong enough to pull them together. And if it isn’t, hey, it’s ok. It’s hard to accept change, but such is the nature of living. Things have to end, and things have to begin. In the end, what matters is that they happened.
🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆
The sun station: you are a daredevil. Risk is in your breakfast and adrenaline in your veins. You live life on the edge and never pass an opportunity to test yourself. You tried to pick up a fight with Sun once and… they severely beat your ass, and you hold a great amount of respect for them since then. And that’s why right now you feel like your heart is breaking open. You look at your friend and tears form in your eyes as you ask them Why, why won’t you tell the others. Your friend smiles.
You found out by mistake. It’s terminal. As the whole world crumbles beneath your feet you’re left with the haunting, horrible truth that there’s nothing you can do about it. “Please” you cry out, “the others need to know”.
They’re the best thing that ever happened to you and you’re not ready to let them go.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
Dark Bramble: mysterious and vERY hostile towards strangers. Something hurt you in the past, really badly. No one knows what happened but it changed you forever, suffocating all your hopes and dreams, strangling them in a maze of lies... It wasn’t your fault, but now you have to live with the consequences. You try to reach for distant memories buried in your now foggy mind, unsure of what went wrong, what did you do to deserve this.
Sometimes you hurt others without meaning it. It’s hard to explain and people often don’t have the patience to understand. You leave little to no room for folks who don’t know how to handle you and only to those brave enough to learn and try again you show your inner beauty.
It’s tempting to think that healing on your own is the only proper way. It took a long time to even try to reach for help, to let a weak cry into the void in the hope that someone, anyone would listen.
And for a long time, no one heard you. Still, underneath the fog a little beacon of hope was stubbornly lit.
In the end, what you needed was time, some space to free yourself from the thorns of your past, a lot of patience, and an opportunity to stand up for yourself and finally breathe again. The battle is never over, but you’re trying your best to heal.
🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔉🔉🔉🔉🔉🔉🔉🔈🔈🔈🔈🔈🔇
The Vessel: you possess the curiosity of a child and the analytical thinking of a true scientist, a powerful combination that makes you into a powerhouse of ideas. No question can remain unanswered for you. You tend to think BIG with your projects, and sometimes go overboard: more than once you broke your own equipment in the midst of a probably too enthusiastic testing. Remember to be careful, one of these days you might hurt yourself with your own hands. But when all is said and done, it’s people like you who will change the world.
👁👁👁👁🌲💀🌱🌲👁👁👁👁👁
The Eye of the Universe: without any effort on your part, people seem to label you as mysterious and unexplainable, when in reality you’re just minding your own buisness. It’s true you may be very hard to reach, but it’s just because of your reserved nature and not any kind of hostility towards others. You may have opened up to like one true friend who knows everything about you. You’re very independent and can be quite unpredictable in your interests and actions. Your eyes can see wonder and opportunities in anything, sometimes you get quite lost fantasizing about the endless possibilities in front of you; a good friend can help you ground yourself in reality and remind you that, unless you take action, they will only remain possibilities.
🌌🌌🌌🌌 🪐 🌌🌌🌌🌌
The Stranger: You had a pretty normal childhood and were quite happy, you even thought you already knew what you wanted to be when you grew up. But then you grew and, watching the adult life of endless struggles that was in store for you, you got scared. The once bright future now seemed bleak and uncertain. Soon the thought of it became a source of stress you just couldn’t deal with and you retreated in your own imagination, becoming reclusive, evasive, sometimes even hostile. The past was slipping away and soon fear started to eat you up from the inside.
One day, something changed. A stranger (to be precise, Timber Hearth) who for some reason just didn’t want to leave you alone, soon became a familiar presence in your life. It was new, it was scary, but exactly what you needed to free yourself from the coffin you built around you. A helping hand, a little spark of hope that slowly gave you the strength to stand up again, and start looking at the future with your head up, timid but determined to see what was in store for you.
I wait for you
;Alex G
#alex’s diary#I knew there would be a day where we wouldn't be together anymore.. I just didn't think it would be that soon.#I'll never understand the ending of us. I'll never understand how it came to be. I'll never understand any of it#I wish they'd understand why I'm upset at them. The ending of us left me confused and lost. Wondering why did you go quiet on me#quiet on me without saying anything before closing the door?#I reread our text messages and I don't understand. How can I ever understand when you said these certain things to me?#To make me feel so loved and cared for and understood only for you to leave in a way.#While I'm trying to trick myself into believing that you still love me - I know you don't. not anymore.#You said you'd always love me.. but oh what a sweet lie that was you gave to me. I was stupid enough to fall for it.#I foolishly still hope that some small part of you still loves and misses me.#But incase you find yourself wanting to come back.. know I'll still be here.. waiting for you.#I meant it that day when I said I'll wait for you.#There will be a day where I've moved on.. but I'll still love you nonetheless.. I'll still find bits and pieces of me missing you#How can I move on after the things we've been through? I mean.. I know I will one day but today is not that day#I'm still lost and confused and upset.#I know I wasn't the best for the last few months we talked... but all I needed was help.. not from you obviously.. I just needed a therapis#Which I have found and she's helping me. but I wish you didn't have to walk away. I wish you didn't have to call me draining.#I'm sorry I was.. I wish I wasn't like that. Maybe if I was someone different you'd still be here.#I want to stop loving you so bad but I can't. it feels impossible to stop loving you. I hate it. Do you want the same but can't get it?#I know you once loved me so that should be enough.#I wish it was just me and you again. I wish it was just us. I miss when it was.#I hope wherever you go you find happiness and love. I hope you forever chase your dreams and that you catch them one day#I thank you for everything that you have given me.#I'm sorry we ended the way we did. I wish we didn't have to come to end.#But sometimes things must end for the world to become bigger. For us to follow a new path. For us to grow and blossom bigger than before#Just know. even though I'm upset and confused. I'll always love and miss you. and I'll wait for you.. I'll wait for you till we meet again#no matter how long it takes. I'll wait for you.#im sorry for everything.#I think I'll always miss you forever like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky
the one thing you hated more than people being late was people who don't keep their promises — your boyfriend wasn't an exception to it. gojo's a busy man, you get it. for months you haven't been able to see him because he was so caught up in the jujutsu world; he saves people dan and night from lingering curses that it broke you a bit.
the jujutsu world treats him like a weapon; and you never liked it. despite your constant battering on him, trying to get him to quit and just settled in for a quiet life, he tells you that he can't. that people needed him, and you felt selfish.
but isn't it fine to be selfish sometimes?
clutching onto your phone, you'd tried dialing gojo's number at least six times before he answers. his voice groggy and slow, as if he had just woken up from a deep sleep, "huh . . . hello?"
you wanted to yell at him, especially because he was the one who has been reminding you about this particular date night — and he was the one to forget about it, "good sleep?" you ended up asking him, voice hard.
"y/n . . . why did you—"
"why did i call? oh, i don't know. maybe because my boyfriend stood me up for an hour and a half. i look like an idiot sitting here, satoru," you mutter out in embarrassment, avoiding the lingering gazes from both waiters and waitresses around you.
for the past hour, you've lost count of how many times you'd ask them to refill your glass of tea — embarrassing. then telling them you were waiting for someone when they tried to ask you if you were going to order anything since there were people waiting for a table, just for the said person not showing up.
"what time is— oh, fuck. baby, i'm so sorry, i fell asleep when i was work—"
before he could finish his words, you finished it for him, "working. i get it, you're always working. clearly, you don't have time for anything else, right?" you ask him, signaling the waiter nearby for the bill.
"baby, i know. i'm so sorry, i'm on my way, okay? please," he whispers. you could hear a few shuffling on the background; along with a few curses he muttered under his breath as he stumble over his feet, mind hazy from all the sudden movements he was doing despite just waking up.
"no need. i'm leaving the place," you mutter, walking out of the restaurant — heels clacking on the pavement, "and 'm leaving you, because clearly you're not ready for a relationship, so bye."
gojo yells out, "what? no, baby. i swear — i'll make it up to you, please. don't leave me . . ." he rambled on the same words over and over again, "where are you? i'm picking you up. please, can we talk about this? i'm sorry, i know i should've—"
"bye, satoru," and with that you ended the call.
──────〃★ 𝐒𝐔𝐊𝐔𝐍𝐀 𝐑𝐘𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍
you fiddled the hem of your dress as you sat inside the almost closed restaurant, the last speck of hope you had on your boyfriend —sukuna— dissipating into hopelessness. standing up you walked over to the cashier, taking out your card to pay for the one glass of shrimp cocktail and one glass of white wine.
the cashier shot you a sympathetic look, and you didn't dare to look her into her eyes. face hard from embarrassment and shame, "thank you for coming, come again next time, ma'am . . ." she bids you goodbye as she returns your card.
walking out of the restaurant that now had the 'closed' sign flipped made your stomach churn in mixed feelings: anger, embarrassment, shame, sadness, everything all at once.
sinking your nails onto the palm of your hand, you muttered out strings of curses. you knew being in a relationship with someone who had no understanding to the concept of love was a hard thing — but honestly, you thought you got a hang of it. all this time you had been nothing but patient with sukuna, but maybe even that wasn't enough for him.
three hours. you sat alone inside the restaurant you booked for the both of you for three hours — each hour depleting your hope even more. and sukuna just managed to fuck it up even after he said he'd try. well, you should've underlined the keyword there: he said he'd try not that he'd come.
maybe you saw it coming yet it still disappointed you anyways.
your phone rang. even before you see who it was — you knew it's none other than sukuna. your heart screamed at you to answer his phone call, but your mind told you to leave it ringing because you were in no mood to talk to him. yet, at the end — you still pressed the answer button.
"what?"
"where are you?" his rough voice echoed through the line as you walked down the nearly empty street, holding onto your purse, "place's closed."
scoffing, you answered, "'f course it's closed, it's almost ten. i've been waiting for three hours, ryo. three hours."
you could hear him inhale sharply, "i was caught up with something, woman. where are you now?" he questioned. hearing a few car honking behind on the background, "where are you? answer me."
"doesn't matter, i left. and i'm leaving you, i was wrong thinking maybe i could've changed you — turns out, i couldn't. good luck to you," you mutter out sternly.
sukuna raised a brow, "y're kidding."
you weren't, and all he could hear next was the loud dial tune of the other line hanging up — now did he realize that this was all serious and you were actually leaving him for good.
──────〃★ 𝐓𝐎𝐉𝐈 𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐔𝐑𝐎
you sighed, dialing toji for the first time of the night when he said that he was going to pick you up for a date, the phone rung for a while before going into voicemail. grumbling under your breath, you tried dialing him again for the second time, which ended up the same way.
all these time spent on makeup and picking out the best outfit — all for nothing as your boyfriend, toji failed to show up on time. angry, you tried calling him again for the third time, only for it to end up in voicemail yet again. this time you decided to leave a message for him.
"hey, you forgot. didn't you? hope you're happy with yourself, cause 'm not."
dating toji wasn't the easiest — but you love him, no matter what he was like. and it was stupid of you to do so, all this time you've defended his name against your friends' malice towards him, saying how he wasn't treating you well enough and that you deserved so much better.
despite all that, you love him. disregarding their words, retorting back to how toji treats you well, which he does — except for the times he tended to forget about everything, even you. maybe it was time to open your eyes and actually break up; because you did deserve better than this.
it would be a shame to let all this makeup go to waste, and so you hailed a cab and decided to go out for a treat. and made the best out of everything, that is until toji decided it would be the most convenient time to call you back amidst your little "me time".
wiping your hand on the napkin, you answered him, "huh, you're alive," you muttered out, huffing.
he sighs, "i forgot, sorry." you couldn't see him, but toji actually looked remorseful, already on his way out of his apartment to yours, "i'm on my way."
you chuckled, "doesn't matter. i left my house," you informed, taking a bite out of the crab meat, "so don't bother coming — and i don't think i don't deserve this kind of treatment from anyone, even you, toji. i'm breaking up with you because clearly you don't take this relationship as seriously as i am."
toji furrowed his brows, "i forgot, i fucked up, i can make it up. where are you right now?" he asks, his voice still as calm as cucumber. but the look on his face contradicted the tone of his voice.
"bye, toji. good luck."
